- 0:11Speaker 1: next Thursday. And Ronan's with us.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Morning, Ronan.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Good morning, guys. How are you? I'm good.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're good. It's the Just Getting Started World Tour, which
- 0:20Speaker 1: is something of an oxymoron because you're celebrating 30 years
- 0:25Speaker 1: in the music biz.
- 0:27Speaker 4: It's actually 33 years. 33.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I didn't want to age either of us anymore.
- 0:32Speaker 4: I know, I know.
- 0:34Speaker 3: So what you're saying is the warm-up phase is over
- 0:36Speaker 3: and now we're into it for real, right?
- 0:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm stretched and I'm ready. And yeah, I'm 50
- 0:41Speaker 4: next year. I'm 50 next March. And honestly, I'm enjoying
- 0:44Speaker 4: this more than I ever have.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, I think I'm only really getting going. This
- 0:48Speaker 2: album has re-energized me. I'm feeling very excited. It's a
- 0:52Speaker 2: new chapter in my life. I said goodbye to Boyzone
- 0:54Speaker 2: in June. We did two big shows at Emirates Stadium
- 0:57Speaker 2: in London. And I'm just ready to, yeah, I'm ready
- 1:00Speaker 2: for this next chapter.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Are you still a property owner down in this part
- 1:03Speaker 3: of the world?
- 1:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, we have a home in Sydney. Yeah, we
- 1:06Speaker 4: love it.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And we come down for as long as we can.
- 1:09Speaker 2: We have a home in Dubai and then back here
- 1:11Speaker 2: in the UK. I'm in the UK at the moment.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Talk about closing chapters. When the fans come to these
- 1:16Speaker 1: shows on the Just Getting Started World Tour, will we
- 1:19Speaker 1: get a celebration of both Boyzone and the solo stuff?
- 1:22Speaker 4: Yeah, very much.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's a big show. It's got boys on in there.
- 1:25Speaker 2: It's got my solo stuff, a couple of surprises. And,
- 1:27Speaker 2: you know, they all sing in all dancing costumes and,
- 1:31Speaker 2: you know, chaos that, you know, I love and that
- 1:34Speaker 2: I've never brought to Australia before.
- 1:36Speaker 4: So I'm very excited.
- 1:36Speaker 3: And of course, we see you on the TV screens,
- 1:39Speaker 3: on The Voice.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I love it. You know, you know, I do.
- 1:42Speaker 2: My wife's an Aussie. My kids are half Aussie. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 2: so I love it. And to be on The Voice
- 1:48Speaker 2: and the talent this year has been phenomenal.
- 1:50Speaker 1: You have two very different acts. It comes down to
- 1:53Speaker 1: 64 and Layla. She's pretty amazing, but she's so young. Now,
- 1:59Speaker 1: you started young.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Oh, she is. Giving her lots of tips.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you're probably the best one to advise her and
- 2:06Speaker 1: maybe her mum. I don't know.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You know, I was 16 when I started and I
- 2:12Speaker 2: see the pitfalls and I see the issues and the
- 2:14Speaker 2: problems and I am scared for her. She's so young,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but I've never heard a voice like it. I mean,
- 2:19Speaker 2: she is incredibly talented. I don't know where that voice
- 2:23Speaker 2: comes from, how someone at 12 years of age can
- 2:25Speaker 2: be that good. Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 4: It's quite incredible.
- 2:27Speaker 1: You have had so many hits over the years. What
- 2:30Speaker 1: is the one that really gives you goosebumps though when
- 2:33Speaker 1: the audience sings it back to you?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Oh, look, there's nothing like when you say nothing at all,
- 2:37Speaker 2: when you play those first chords and just the reaction
- 2:40Speaker 2: from the audience is incredible. They just go crazy as
- 2:44Speaker 2: soon as they hear the chorus before I even start singing.
- 2:46Speaker 4: And then when you get to the end of the chorus,
- 2:48Speaker 4: by then they're just all singing. The whole thing, the room,
- 2:51Speaker 4: it's so special. It's such a privilege to have a
- 2:54Speaker 4: song like that and be part of it.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It must have been so satisfying to come out of
- 2:58Speaker 3: a big boy band like Boyzone, which is you know,
- 3:01Speaker 3: at the time was such a big thing in music.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And then to be able to crack at solo as well,
- 3:06Speaker 3: you must have gone, yes.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It was nerve-wracking. I didn't know what was going to happen.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Being in a band that big and it all happening.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And you hear it so many times that, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: band members go solo and it doesn't work. And, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: there was obviously that fear. But having the stepping stone
- 3:19Speaker 2: and I guess the safety blanket of Notting Hill, the movie, Whereas,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, so I was kind of still in Boyzone
- 3:25Speaker 2: when that song was released. It was like testing the
- 3:28Speaker 2: water as a solo artist.
- 3:29Speaker 4: And then it worked. And globally it worked. It worked
- 3:33Speaker 4: down here.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Huge. It really did. I feel very lucky. Very, very lucky.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Also, aside from music, you've dabbled in a little of
- 3:41Speaker 3: what we do. You can relate to our hours. You
- 3:45Speaker 3: know the feeling of getting it up at stupid o'clock
- 3:48Speaker 3: to put on a radio show. But you gave that
- 3:51Speaker 3: up recently.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I gave it up about two years ago now. I
- 3:53Speaker 4: did it for seven years on Magic Breakfast in London.
- 3:55Speaker 4: It was brilliant. Brilliant. I love it. And the power
- 3:58Speaker 4: of radio as a medium.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I got to really appreciate and understand it so much more.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, also, you know, with this new campaign, I've
- 4:04Speaker 2: got a new album on the way and I said
- 4:06Speaker 2: it to my team. I said it to the international
- 4:07Speaker 2: department on the record label. I said, I don't want
- 4:10Speaker 2: to do interviews on Zoom. If I can be there,
- 4:12Speaker 2: I want to be in the studio because I get it.
- 4:15Speaker 2: It's hard as, you know, a DJ. interviewing people on Zoom.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So I appreciate you guys doing this for me, but
- 4:21Speaker 2: if I could be, I'd much rather be in Perth
- 4:23Speaker 2: in the studio with you.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Trust me.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You can see there's a seat here for you. You're
- 4:26Speaker 2: welcome any time.
- 4:28Speaker 3: That you're in Perth. It's always good to have a
- 4:30Speaker 3: guest who knows what it means when the red light's
- 4:32Speaker 3: on and you've got, you know, the rules of the studio.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah. 100%. It aged me 10 years, honestly. It's a lot.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Well, we look forward to having you in town in
- 4:43Speaker 1: March to celebrate a big milestone birthday and a big
- 4:48Speaker 1: milestone tour. Lovely to chat to you, Ronan.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Great to see you and talk to you. Thank you.
