- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's John's wine.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: And Brandy.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Hello.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Happy running, everyone.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Straight from the corrals at Walt Disney World.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Jennifer with Stephanie.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Brandy.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: And Bob?
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was me.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Well, my friends, welcome to episode 266 of the Rise and Road Podcast.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: We are tickled to death that you're with us this evening.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: And we are now into the 2026, 2027 Run Disney season.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I'm Bob, and I am here this week with Greg.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey, hey.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: With John.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Hey, how you doing?
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: And with Jack.
- 1:42SPEAKER_11: Hiya.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Hey, friends, glad you're here.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Alicia, I think she's still goofing off in uh in Orlando somewhere.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Listen, when she travels, she travels the right way and goes in a really long time.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: So good on you, girl.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: The biggie tonight, of course, is the recap of Wine and Dine weekend and what a great weekend it was.

- 3:05SPEAKER_02: And we got a little bit of breaking news here.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Now, great, this is not confirmed.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: This is all internet rumor, but literally about five minutes before Bob hit the record button, a leaked image got released of the themes and dates of next year's wine and dine weekend.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: And if it holds true, that race weekend is going to occur October 21st through the 24th of 2027.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: So if you want to get a jump on those rooms for that potential race weekend, again, not confirmed by Run Disney.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: It's just internet speculation as of right now.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: What you need to do is head over to MagicBoundTravel.com, get in contact with one of their Run Disney specialized travel advisors, and they will get you set up with a room because obviously the faster you get on that, the cheaper the price is going to be.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: I think maybe once we wrap up this year's discussion of wine and dine, we can talk about these leaked potential themes for next year, but let's keep the focus of 2026.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: But if that date holds true, head to magicboundtravel.com and get your no obligation quote form filled out today.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Check them out.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: I'm actually going to do it yesterday, which is tomorrow from where I am, but from where you are, it's yesterday.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: So I really, I really literally do plan to do that.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Um if I've if I sound a little disorganized and maybe a little tired in this episode, I just a moment ago took off my magic band and laid it on the table here in front of me.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: I uh I just drove back.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I just arrived.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: I arrived in here.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Becky emptied the car of the suitcases and all that.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: I gave her a hard time.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: You don't do that.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: And uh and plopped down here.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: My friends have everything ready to go because we want to talk about this.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: It was an exciting weekend.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: It was just so great.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I was so happy seeing everybody, and it was tremendous.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll get to that very soon.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: The other thing that happens now is that we keep a spreadsheet in front of us, and it tells us what race weekends are coming up and how many days.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: That's where we go for the training update where we're going right now.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: So I ceremoniously early Monday morning took wine and dine from the top of the list, put it down bottom, and I don't know, since we have some speculative dates pretty soon, I can put an expo day in there, and I can tell us how many days there are till training begins.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Let's leave that to the next episode.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: What we do have though, and now's time, we'll we'll spend this episode dedicated to wine and nine.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Now it's time to talk about what is literally the big one at Disney World, which is the biggest weekend in terms of number of people.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: And that's the one coming up in January, Marathon Weekend, which is now just 69 days away.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Just a tick under 10 weeks.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: We are in training week number 18.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: We're in the part of the training schedule for the marathon weekend for marathon goofy and dopey, where you have a long run followed by two weeks of shorter runs.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: And this is one of those two weeks.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: This is six miles, including a magic mile.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Now, coming up, and we'll be able to talk about this again next week.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: If you are arriving on Expo Day, we're getting close to Advanced Dining Reservation Day.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: That will be November 7th.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: So we always plan that against Expo Day.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: If you're arriving before then, then clearly your advanced ADR day will be earlier than that.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: And here's another one.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Drum roll, please.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Wait a minute.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: I don't have a drum roll button.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: I can do this.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Princess Weekend is now on the training schedule.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Ta-da! Ta-da-da! There you go.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: 119 days to the expo, 17 weeks away, training week number one, three miles.
- 7:41SPEAKER_11: Bob, is that just me and you running?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Is it just the two of us?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: No, I think there will be other people there, Jack.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: But you mean from oh, you mean from the podcast?
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, no, I think it's just yeah.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: I am running the challenge.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: I'm not running the 5K.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I've decided, I decided this season I was gonna, I've been doing too many races, I was gonna cut back.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: So I'm not doing the 5K at Princess.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And of course I'm not doing Dopey.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: But I'm doing all the others.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Jack, we need to get going.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: We got 17 weeks.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Time to get up and running.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm gonna skip the training updates this week because uh Greg, unless you've got something you'd like to toss in.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Nope, just uh just wearing my bubble wrap for this weekend.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: You're getting ready in New York City.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: How about before we get wrapped up in Winadine?
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: You one more time tell our friends.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know it's kind of late, but some may still catch it here at the last minute.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Sure, absolutely.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah, if you're listening uh day of recording or uh Friday morning, uh this Friday, um, we will be having our mega Run Disney Takes Manhattan uh meetup.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: It is occurring at 5:30 uh in the I guess you call late afternoon or evening.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: We'll be there 5:30 to 7 at a restaurant bar establishment called Porchlight.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: It's about a half a mile uh down the street from the Javit Center where the uh New York City Marathon Expo takes place.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: And we're just so excited to see so many friends from so many different Run Disney groups.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Uh it's really gonna be a tremendous time and a great way to kick off uh this um world major race weekend.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: It sure is.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm excited for you.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry I'm not gonna be there.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Now you're going to get the extra hour sleep.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the Sunday race.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: We go to standard time again.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: So we'll get an extra hour.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: We used to get those at Wine and Dine.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: I I guess Disney's committed to October for Wine and Dine now.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: We'll we'll see, yeah, we'll see maybe next year when allegedly.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, allegedly is right.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: It could be like springtime surprise.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Boom, they changed their date on us.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: By the way, I I don't want to derail this conversation real quick, but did anybody see the pretty pretty much the reason why wine and dine or sorry why Springtime Surprise got moved?
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: No, what so um, you know, banana ball, like uh the savannah bananas and stuff like that, they're holding I guess they're calling it like the banana ball at ESPN in the same weekend that it was originally supposed to be.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: So obviously it's going to be that whole complex is gonna be filled with people.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: So the way I look at that is uh the Savannah Bananas make Disney more money than Run Disney does, so hence why Run Disney got the boot to the weekender.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: That I mean that makes perfect sense.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: And I have no I have no qualms.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Oh no, uh, it just all of a sudden when when that got announced, I was like, okay, makes total sense why Stringtime Surprise got moved.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Because I I think on Disney Plus or whatever, you can live stream um banana ball games and such.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: So it's a huge partnership for Disney.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and some of them are on ESPN, so again, another Disney partner there.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: All right, so New York City, good luck.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Congratulations.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: We're looking forward to hearing all about that.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Wishing you the best.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: That'll be great.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Hey, let's uh let's dive into it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the weekend because it as I led off with, I was uh I'll let Jack and John chime in here in just a second, but uh just on the surface, I'm so happy to be back in another Run Disney season and to see everybody.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: You know what's one of the things that gets me, amongst others, is that as I'm reviewing social media posts of this person who finished it, the number of people I didn't see I go, oh gosh, I didn't know he was there, I didn't know she was there.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I want to see everybody, and I know it can't be done, but it always uh amazes me when I come back from a weekend how many people I didn't get a chance to see.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: But I got a chance to see plenty.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Uh let's I mean, we can go through this piece by piece, Expo 5K, etc.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: But just overall, overall, John, what did you think of the weekend?
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was a great weekend.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, to sum it up, it was a great weekend.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, next.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could go in more detail about the events, but you know, we'll we'll wait for that.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, we will.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And and Jack, you were there, although you weren't running, you were there, and you were participating and spectating and cheering.
- 13:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_11: I you know what?
- 13:06SPEAKER_11: It was a lot of fun.
- 13:07SPEAKER_11: I always loved cheering.
- 13:10SPEAKER_11: Um, but yeah, it was a great weekend.
- 13:12SPEAKER_11: I want I don't want to get too much into it until we get actually talking about like the races, but yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: The one thing no one has mentioned, neither Jack nor John mentioned, the weather was spectacular.
- 13:24SPEAKER_11: Oh, it was beautiful.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: The weather was the weather was great, and it cooperated.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: That's the most important part of it.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Uh you you will hear some folks say the humidity got up on Sunday.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And the humidity did get up on Sunday, higher than it had been on Friday and Saturday.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And if it's hot where you are, dot dot dot, right?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Uh to those of you who thought the humidity was high, you then you're right.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: If that humidity was high to you, you are not wrong.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I think the highest dew point we had was 67 or 68.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And uh for Florida, that is not high.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: 78 is high.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: 67 or 68, not too bad.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I noticed that the humidity had increased on Sunday some.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: It still was very manageable.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: That and the temperatures and Mother Nature Cooperated.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know how many race weekends I've been to where I've gone on Facebook and said, Oh gosh, you should have been here the next week.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: It's just gorgeous.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Or you should have been here the week before it was perfect.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: This time we got a winner.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: So let's run it back and let's start with the expo.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And really, John, that's just you and me.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Jack, you didn't pop over there, did you?
- 14:42SPEAKER_11: No, not this time around.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And Greg, Alicia gave you some notes, right?
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: So she uh recorded some some clips for us.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: So we will inter so we will intersperse those uh into the episode uh as we uh as we wrap up each I guess chunk of the section.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll get Alicia's thoughts since you know again she she's still in vacation mode on us right now.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: All right, well, Bob, you know, you uh you led me right into this.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: You know, we're gonna start things off like any good Run Disney race weekend, and that's at the expo.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: And uh so John, I'm gonna start with you.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: My first question is why did you steal a million dollars worth of Brooke shoes out of a shipping container in California so that Bob couldn't get his goofy shoes?
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Good and get the goofy shoes.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: How dare you, John?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: You are ruining his Christmas present.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, I knew I had to get him for him.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And that's what happened.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: That's great, John.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That's really funny.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: If you guys don't know the story, there I didn't know there was a major problem with the shoes at Run Disney, but supposedly over a million dollars of run of Brooks shoes, Hocus shoes, Adidas on where 37 pallets were stolen out of a freight train in California.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: And some somebody just put the Disney shoes up on eBay, supposedly, and and sold them before the expo started.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: They got caught.
- 16:11SPEAKER_10: Good.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: That's why Bob did not get his shoes.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: They had the goofy shoe.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I you know, I I didn't see anybody wearing the goofy shoe.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, I see a ton of them.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Did you really, John?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: On the course, I saw a bunch of them wearing the goofy shoes from.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Because they were there, they were for sale.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: I just did not I didn't see anybody wearing them.
- 16:34SPEAKER_11: But uh our friends are so tall though.
- 16:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I don't look at shoes, right?
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: That's a long way down, Bob.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Uh our friend Julie, who is uh Platinum uh Run Disney, Club Run Disney, said she'd get them for us, and she text I got a text from her early on Thursday morning saying they don't have widespread, will the normal width work?
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: And they will not.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, they won't.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not being fussy.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: I've made that mistake before, and it I just cannot wear them, they'll hurt my feet.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: So they did tell her that they would have more sizes come January for Marathon Weekend.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking forward to that.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And Julie did get Becky the Mary Poppin' shoes.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: They were cute.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Did you see those, Jack?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: The Mary Poppin shoes.
- 17:26SPEAKER_11: I did.
- 17:27SPEAKER_11: I only saw a picture of them.
- 17:28SPEAKER_11: They're very adorable.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Becky's got 'em.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: They're I don't use the word cute very often, but I was saying that that's a departure from their they're nice.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: I I saw I saw a lot of them on Sunday.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Not too many folks running in them.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: They look like they probably would get well, they got lace on them around the edge.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And it I I would think that that'd be easy to get dirty.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Two laces in them.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Two laces.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: I try to get a like a a different kind of almost like a ribbon at the bottom of the tongue and then regular laces at the top.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, thank you, Julie, and uh Becky enjoys those.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, I will say give it up to this partnership with with Brooks and Run Disney because I mean they really from a stylistic side of things, I I think the goo the goofy shoes looked really, really sharp.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: All the other ones a little too outside the box for me, but clearly based on the lines that I saw on social media, people were going nuts for them.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: And obviously, um, yeah, I feel like this like great trajectory and and trend with the the the partnership probably started last or or earlier this year.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, think about uh when people went crazy for the Rapunzel shoes at Princess, and then people really enjoying um what was it, the Chippendale shoes?
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: And remember like how like they had the the the fur and the fuzz on them and so I mean they're going outside the box and and good on them for trying to and and people are seems like they're really really responding to it.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: I gotta believe the folks at New Balance are kicking themselves.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: You got you got that right.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: They used to have this contract for those who don't know, the contract lapsed for a couple years, but New Balance used to make the shoes, and they would make, I do not remember how many, but they'd make let's say it was at least two pair, it may have been four, and that would be it for the season.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: They would run them and they would initiate the season in January.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: So by the time uh at during those years, all I was running was Wine and Dine.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: By the time Wein and Dine came around, they had very few left, so I never got any.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Brooks is doing well, so that's what happened.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Uh you we got you were still talking with John about the expos, so I'll let him finish up here.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So uh luckily I got group 20, so I headed over early.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: It's not luck, it's just what you do.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: I got like I got I got late last time.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: So I you know, and leading up.
- 20:09SPEAKER_11: You are lucky, stop it.
- 20:12SPEAKER_11: Stop it.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: I'm taking it.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: I I I got in, I got got 20.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: So we got there around eight o'clock, and we got online.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: We were up by the globe.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Uh actually interesting.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: This is the first time I think we ever went through metal detectors to get into the expo.
- 20:26SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: So so they had a separate different different layout to get in.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: So we got in, and then you know the cast members were great.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: They said, Okay, guys, we're gonna parade up to the bib area.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: No one's gonna run yet.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: We're not running yet.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: We're parading up to the parade, everyone's all the cast members on the side waving at us, which was great because we got in and out of the bib area in no time because we we were I was five, five minutes basically, five, ten minutes.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: We were in and out.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: It was constant walking through.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Got my 5k bib, then went over, got my challenge bib, uh, walked out to get my shirts over at the other expo, and then by that time group 20 got called.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: So I went back down and got my uh went into the expo to get my my pin, my sneaker ornament.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Some of the stuff was nice, but I decided I can wait till marathon weekend to spend more money than this weekend.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: You know, you know.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And my wife was looking at the shoes.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: She liked the shoes too.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: She likes the mic, the mini shoes that are previewed for Marathon weekend.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: So that might be uh another buck 65 out of my pocket that weekend.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, that they were they were they were very nice.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: And it it was well I can say it it wasn't as crazy as I thought it was gonna be, but it it went through.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: But it did get crowded.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: It did get crowded there.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: So so the two observations that I saw from the social media perspective, and then you know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Bob and John, I want to get your thoughts on it.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Is that um so the first part is from a logistics standpoint, I thought it was a really, really um great idea on Run Disney's part to create a separate cue just for the pins.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: Because I think that, like, really, you know, when people are are clamoring for those, obviously, you know, they always have them interspersed with the merch for the specific races, and then obviously that clutters up, you know, if you're looking for a shirt or a hat or something like that.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: So I thought that was a really smart move on their part, but I just want to get your perspective because again, we're hearing reports of stuff selling out really, really quick and you know, pe people getting frustrated by it.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, I know you guys aren't as you know clamorous about the merch as some other people are, but in talking with friends over the course of the weekend, did people seem like they were able to get everything that they wanted or or were they striking out, unfortunately?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: The only thing I the only thing I did hear was the 10k, the 5k shirts ran out early.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: That that that was it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: But I mean, when I got in there probably about 9:30, quarter to 10.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Uh everything that I was looking for was there.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: Everything seemed well stocked.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, I didn't see anything like I did see the pin line, and uh, I mean, it went I think it went pretty well.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, I do I I do have some areas for improvement, but not for that merchant dice area.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: See, I got through early, so my shirt pickup was kind of not eventful.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I got up, I was third- You already heard about this, yes.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I was third in line, got my got my 5k bib, went across the road to get my challenge shirts at the other side, and everything was fine.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: But I did see where there was a problem coming was going to happen later on.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: They put the shirts are always in the back where they usually are, but and Bob could say this later, but they put vendors back there also.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Like, but they've been they've been there before.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: But it was a so but for the 5k with the amount of people going in there, and I Bob could express it, it got a little tight or very and I think the vendors couldn't you couldn't go back to those vendors because you couldn't get to them.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Well you could get to them.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: It it was crowded.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: It was crowded.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: I I got there later in John.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: I got there, I think it opened at nine, didn't it?
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: It opened at midnight.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: It opened earlier this year at nine, and that that was another fun story, too.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: That people some some of the vendors didn't know it opened at nine.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: They thought it was the old time vendor, the old time uh exposed.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Anyway, it opened at nine.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: I I don't remember exactly when we got there.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: I expected a zoo.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: I expected traffic backed up all the way down Victory Way there.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: No.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: It was crowded, but it was not crazy.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: I got into line for my bibs.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: It went around the stadium, into the building, around the building.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Fortunately, they don't use that labyrinth queue in the middle of the building.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: That was very frustrating.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: If you'll recall, and they they haven't done it for a little while, but you used to go into the building, you go left, you go around the building, you'd get to the back, and then there's a big open room back there.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, it's just zigzagged back and forth.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: And that uh that was uh demoralizing when you got there.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: There was a reason for that, Bob.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Well, they haven't done it for a little while, but they had the 10K bibs back then.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: That's why, because the 10K bibs were there.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but they haven't had that labyrinth for a while.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: They haven't.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: It's been a couple races since they've done that.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Uh well, wasn't that the area where for the at least for the first day, weren't 10K only participants picking up their shirt in that area?
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: They did.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because there was part of me that was thinking, John, going back to your point about um craziness with shirt pickup, because it sounded like they were scanning check-in pass codes or something like that.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: They were.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: I got my it's the first time my check-in pass I see your check-in past, I go, okay.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: I go for the shirt, right?
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: For the shirt.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: I go, I just gave you a piece of paper that says you saw me rip it off my my bib.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, and I guess I guess I don't know why they did that.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: If it was just something new.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Well, apparently it didn't last very long because again, following this from the social media side of things, it sounded like within a couple of hours they abandoned ship on on that because it was just creating too much of a bottleneck.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: But you know, the part that I was thinking about hearing all of your stories was to make things, I guess, even smoother.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: I would have thought instead of putting the 10K only participants in the same building as the bibs, I would have think it would make more sense to put 5k only in there.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: But then the part that I'm realizing as I was thinking this through was then that doesn't require anybody else to go over and see the vendors, and clearly that's a you know, that that's why you're paying all that money to be a vendor, because if not, you'd only have to go to that one building and be done.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: That's not right.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: We we heard that from some vendors.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: But the other thing is there aren't there are very few comparatively 10K only participants.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Correct, yes.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: But if you put the 5k up there, now you make a lot of us get in that line to get to the 5k, then get back in line to get our challenge stuff.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: And then we still have to go over.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: So I I don't want them to do that.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: All right, if they're gonna leave one there, leave it be the 10k.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I you know, go ahead.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: I heard people say that they that the people that were doing uh like the 5k and the 10k only, or the 10k and the half, it kind of felt weird.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: They just got their 10k bib and they just kind of cut back in line into the area while people were going through.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, with the city.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it was a kind of a little get get some looks, maybe, but that was about it.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, but I think people understood.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: In terms of crowds, in terms of picking up the shirts, I'm uh an hour or two later than John now going to the back.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: It's crowded, okay?
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: In fact, John was with me.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: I was with Bob.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: It's crowded, but I walk right up to the desk for the challenge and get my challenge shirts.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: There may have been one person in front of me.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: The line for the 2XL 5K's, two the two XL shirts in the 5Ks was crazy.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: It was it was I there were I don't know, John, a couple hundred people in that line.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a lot because it was long.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: If facing the back of the event, the 5K was facing on the left side, the challenge bibs were on the right shirts were on the right side.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: We were in line across the back of the res back of the building, past the challenge shirt pickup to get his 5k shirt.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: It was long.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: And what got but but it was just the two XLs.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: The rest of them were you know manageable.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: And then they were to try to try to get the 2XL going smoother.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: They said, oh, you can get in the XL line and I'll take care of you too.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: And they but nobody really knew that.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: So that was very unofficial.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: But hey, look, if I have one issue, and and you know what?
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Remember the time that we went back to Disneyland the first time and there was some hiccups?
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Disney will fix this.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: They'll do something to fix that for the shirts.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know that it's would be that hard.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Maybe get three or four more people in there handing out double XL shirts or something.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: That's really seems to be like what it would take.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: They don't want to move them away from the vendors.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: The vendors, like you said, Greg, the vendors count on the people.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: It's like what it's like when you go to uh return uh Amazon stuff at let's say Kohl's.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it's all the way in the back of the store.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: You've got to go through all the merchandise to get back there.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And then they give you a 30% discount uh 20% off coupon, you know.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Tacky Obadgeon.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right, right, right.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: I they I when I went there, yeah.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but Coles is good at that, but this is not a Coles ad.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: They're not a sponsor.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: Not sponsored, not yet, anyway.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: I I do want to say something real quick about the vendors.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Um, I just I want to give a very, very special thank you, actually, to a sponsor or at least an affiliate, our friends over at Fluffy Fizsies.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: I want to give a special uh thanks to uh Michelle and Pam.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: So my cousin uh and his wife ran their first ever Run Disney event this week and that they did just the 5k.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: And I was so glad that uh they were able to make this trip because this is actually, even though um they will be celebrating their uh one-year wedding anniversary um on Saturday, this was actually their honeymoon.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, because unfortunately, a couple of months before uh the wedding, my cousin's wife was diagnosed with cancer.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, thankfully, she got she got her treatment and and everything is gonna be a-okay.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Well, that's good.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: Um, but when when um the Fluffy Fizzies team heard about this uh through um through my wife and and Magic Bound Travel, they went ahead and made them a wonderful care package.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: So they were like, please tell them to come and visit our booth, and they were just beyond thrilled with that.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: So I just want to give a very, very special thank you to Michelle and Pam and everybody else at Fluffy Fizzies for making a magical moment for the two of us.
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: Thank you so much.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Really nice.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Kind of wrapping up the expo, if you will.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: I I had got number 46, which for me was really, really good.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: I didn't need to get into the Brooks line.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: I at this point, with the number of Disney races I have behind me, I don't need I like the generic Run Disney merchandise.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: I it was It was generic.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, it was I didn't I ended up getting a quarter zip, which I thought was okay.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Kind of looked like a spirit jersey almost, but it was lightweight.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: But the shirts they have this year, I I wasn't impressed.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, everybody everybody's taste is different.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I just wasn't impressed by them.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: So I got over there, uh, grabbed an item for Becky, grabbed that shirt for me, and I was out of there in relatively short order, maybe 15 minutes.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: It was crowded.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Well one other aspect of the expo that I want to ask you about, John.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: I obviously not video podcast, but I see that you are wearing the 5k um race shirt.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: Are we uh are we still dealing with massively large vinyl um logos on the shirts?
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Yes, I could they yeah, they're they're very that John.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: Can you get a little closer to the mic when you do that?
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah we go.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's very, you know, that big logo.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't it's not they're not screen printed anymore, I think.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: They don't bother me.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: They don't.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: No, no, it's it they're they're okay.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, for a long run, I would kind of think twice about wearing it.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I'll run in the in the summer.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've haven't tried it, I haven't tried it in the winter yet, but yeah, in the summer.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but uh but everything with the expo, yeah.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: With the expo, everything went pretty well.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: There's things they can adjust and fix, because you know, marathon weekends coming up.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: They there's probably some feedback they saw, you know, because people, some expo people thought the expo opened later, uh the some of the vendors.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: So that was interesting where there was booths that with nobody there when I got there in the morning.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, it was it was good.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: And and there was no food downstairs at the expo this year.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 34:14SPEAKER_11: Well, they didn't have a little cafe or whatever open.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: They used to have a pretzel cart down there, remember?
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: That that was not there.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: There's no there was no food down at the I mean you you need the space for the increased 5k field size.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: So that makes sense.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: No, but you know what?
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: They put the the race distance signs down there.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: So that took up that whole wall on the one side.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: Like that that could have been extra space, but I think they need to be they need to be someplace else, but not in that expo.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: But I but it does bring people to the expo.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I almost kind of feel like they they hit their stride with putting those numbers in the Run Disney merch area because I remember at one point they had moved them to the bib area.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: Yep, but then I didn't like that as much because you know, when you had like those really tall black drapes behind you, like it created like a composition of a really nice photo, where here, like when you were in the bib area, you were seeing like bleachers and stuff like that, and kind of like you know, took away from it a little bit.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: So I guess they're just moving around to to test things out and whatnot.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Before we leave the expo, you know, Jeff's gone, and the Galloway booth is still there, and the Galloway team is doing very well.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: I missed Chris this weekend.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: I just just missed him.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Unless he was hiding from me, but I don't think he was doing that.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: I I didn't see him.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: I did get a chance to talk with Barbara Galloway, who's doing as well as you can expect, but those friends who and I I heard some friends over the weekend going, I never got a chance to see him, never got a chance to say hi.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: I I feel badly for those people.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: But and I I want to make sure as long as I'm around anyway, and as long as we're around, people know who Jeff was and it's they they still do, but as we go forward, more and more people who are n will become introduced to the Run Disney community who will hear the name but not have any flesh and blood uh human being to associate with that.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: It was it's it's always hard.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: I miss Jeff Galloway very much, but he's there in spirit, I promise you.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: He is uh he's still very much his his influence and what he did still courses through the Run Disney family.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: So as long as uh as long as these are going on, I'm gonna bring it up that we miss Jeff and we're sorry he's not there.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Bob, that was a really, really nice sentiment.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: Thank you again for sharing that.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: And obviously, here at Rise of Run, we will continue to promote the legacy of Jeff Galloway.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: But before we move on, let's hear Alicia's thoughts about the expo.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: So my expo experience was a little bit different because we had to get up um at seven o'clock for the expo pass, which was new this year.
- 37:20SPEAKER_05: Um so that was just another extra early morning and the buses came earlier.
- 37:27SPEAKER_05: But I got group 20, um, which was actually the same as John this time.
- 37:33SPEAKER_05: So I don't know if that's a los for him or a win for me.
- 37:36SPEAKER_05: Um, but I went to the expo.
- 37:40SPEAKER_05: Um I tried to get on the first bus, but it was late.
- 37:43SPEAKER_05: Um, but I I managed to get there.
- 37:46SPEAKER_05: I went and got my bib, and then I went to the Run Disney merch area, which I heard a lot of people talking about that they felt like there was less merchandise.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: And honestly, I felt like it was the same amount of merchandise.
- 38:02SPEAKER_05: Um I think there's just that many more people that it looked smaller.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: Um but anyway, I was able to get um a couple of tank tops and I got one of the crew new one of the crew neck sweatshirts.
- 38:21SPEAKER_05: Um, so that was good.
- 38:23SPEAKER_05: And then after that part, John and I went in to get my Run Disney shirts um and go to the actual expo area.
- 38:37SPEAKER_05: I got the shirts, John got um his knees taped at the KT tape place, and we saw Pam, and we went over and saw Chris Twiggs um and Adam at the Jeff Galloway booth.
- 38:51SPEAKER_05: So yeah, the expo was fun.
- 38:53SPEAKER_05: Nothing super out of the ordinary.
- 38:55SPEAKER_05: I do think that they should have put the 5k bibs and shirts on upper level where they put the 10k this time, but um, other than that, and did a better explanation for people because I had to explain to at least three people that if they were doing the 5k and the 10k separate, that they would have to get their 10k bib upstairs and then go get their 5k bib downstairs, um, which the employees were not either informed themselves or didn't understand the question.
- 39:29SPEAKER_05: But other than that, it was good.
- 39:31SPEAKER_04: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: All right, so in terms of the weekend from or uh from a distance perspective, I usually wouldn't use this phrase, but in terms of podcasting, I'm gonna use it here.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Let's move to the big event of the weekend, and that is the brand new logistical 5K.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait to hear what the two of you have to say on this.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: So obviously, you know, the way that it seems like the 5K shook down this year is that essentially it seemed like three separate races um oh over over the course of the morning.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: So I think what's gonna be really interesting here is that I think we're gonna be able to get two different perspectives because Bob, based on your corral placement, it seems like you were in like race one and John, you were in race two.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: So Bob, tell the folks what corral were you in, and then what was your race experience like, and what was the same and what was different?
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: A, B, and C went out first, and I was in C.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: I don't what time did that race start?
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: 4 30 or 4 30, I believe.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: 4 30 did start.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: I guess I guess we went off around five, I guess.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: I don't remember.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: Um I so I typically stay on property, but did not this time.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: So I drove in and I probably got there around 4 a.m.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: I got to our spot, you know, to the left side of the bleachers, and for a few moments stood there alone.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: This happens every now and then, because when I'm on property, I get on an early bus and I go over there and I go, Oh gosh, nobody's gonna be here this year.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: It doesn't take long.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Um I grabbed my cup of coffee, which I typically do from the Disney vendor there, walked over to our spot, tasted my cup of coffee, and found that they had given me a cup of cocoa, which is which I do I took a couple sips.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: It just cocoa's fine, but I wasn't ready for it.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, we had within the next couple of minutes we had 10 or 15 folks there.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: John came along.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: John came early for his race, so he came along.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: It wasn't what we typically get, it wasn't what we got later in the week, but there were a fair number of folks there.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: I found two friends who were going to be in Corral C also, Russ and Brandy.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Well, no, in fact, I found Brandy.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: I went to Corral C and we were all wondering, you have two you had two tags on your bib this time.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: One for the shirt that you tear off.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: That's been there since I've been running.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: The other one was to get into your corral, and that is where you took your tear off and dropped it in a bucket at the corral, at the corral gate.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: Interesting.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I'm not sure why.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: I really am not sure why.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: I guess I think the only thing it did, it kept me from finishing and then going back out with the third wave.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: So I suppose technically I, you know, if I hadn't dropped that tag off, I could have done that.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Why you'd want to, I don't know, but anyway.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: One thing we wondered about was would people with the really early groups say, the heck with this, I'm sleeping in and I'm going to drop back to a later group?
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: I don't think that happened.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: It it did happen, of course, but it did not happen in any large number.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Uh I noticed, I mean, I saw that our groups seemed to be the right size, and I noticed as I was leaving and people were I'm going back to the parking lot, people are coming in from the parking lot.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: I'm noticing mostly F and G bibs.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: And here's a note, guys F and G, not F and G, okay?
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: F and G.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was uh doesn't sound good.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um did I see some other bibs coming in late?
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: But not many.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Not many.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: So here's the deal.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Uh I walk towards the corral with Brandy.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: She heads over to Corral P.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: She says, I'll find you in the corral.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Not a hard thing to do.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: I hang out in the back.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: I saw our friend Russ back there.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: So the three of us take off, and I say, You know what?
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: We're in the back of this corral.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: I'm going to try to get swept.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: I'm curious.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: They have balloon ladies.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Balloon ladies are doing a 24-minute pace.
- 44:29SPEAKER_04: I was going to ask about that.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: And yeah, yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: And we're walking.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: We're walking faster than 24, but we're walking.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: And I legit wanted to get behind the balloon ladies because I wanted to see what they were going to do.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: First hand.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: So I could come here, you know, the beat reporter.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Alright, kids, here's what's happened when you get swept.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I I couldn't do it.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: I couldn't do it.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: We uh people talk about the lines for the characters.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: They were long.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: But good grief, friends.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: You and I have been on 10Ks and halves where the lines are crazy long.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: They weren't any longer than that.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Some people were discouraged early on, they didn't get into character lines.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Like I said, they were long, but I got about, oh golly, I was at this time I was with Russ.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: My friend Brandy, she she she was everywhere, okay?
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: She was ahead of us, she was behind us.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Um but I got into the line with Russ, and there was a really neat character stop.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Probably it was past two miles.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: It was Mickey and Donald and Goofy in their medieval gear.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: The three musketeers.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: And Russ and I walked by it and I said, What the heck, Russ?
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: That's a you know, I wouldn't stop.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: That's a great one.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: So we stop and we go to get in the line, which is not that long.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: And the cast member at the end of the line goes, I'm just warning you, if you get in the line here, you might get swept.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm going, Okay.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: All right, golly, let's see what happens.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Uh Brandy and Margaret came along.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: So the four of us ended up in the photo.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: We we got through there, no sweepage.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: I actually asked one of the bike riders.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: I said, Well, if we get swept, what happens?
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: He didn't seem to know.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: He said, Well, we might cut the course on you, we might put you in a golf cart.
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: And I go, Okay.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: So we're going along, the balloon ladies go by.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: Another photo opportunity.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Let's get in line.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: By now, by now, Brandy and Russ are are both into sure, let's get swept, why not?
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: So I finish the second photo, and now I can't even find the balloon ladies.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: And a bicyclist comes next to me and says, You're fine.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: You're fine, just keep walking, just stay to the right.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: You're fine.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: They did come through and try to get the early corral folks, because they were convinced that the the fast runners in Corral D were going to catch us.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: We never saw them.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: We we I mean we never saw 'em.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: We're two and a half miles ahead of them.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: So as long as we're still moving.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: I couldn't get swept.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: I didn't see anybody getting swept.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, maybe if you couldn't make it to mile marker one, maybe they put you in a golf cart and moved you forward.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: I have I have no experience there.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: But I tried and couldn't do it.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: I heard people talking, but I did not hear anyone say I got swept.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: I heard people say, Oh yeah, they were sweeping.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: But ask them who, and he goes, Oh, I I I just heard they were sweeping.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: That's my knowledge.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: So I did the 5K in, I don't know, an hour and a half or something like that.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: It was still dark when I finished.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Of course, I knew it would be.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: I I went back and I wanted to try and meet up with the third wave coming through.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: It wasn't by that time, John was on the course and there wasn't much much beating up to do.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: So it was back to the room, but back in the room by 7 a.m.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: So, John, before we get into your experience, because you were in corral D, correct?
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: I was in E.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: You're an E.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you're you're in the middle of the second wave.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: Let's just talk the between the two of you.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: In terms of family reunion area, staging area in the corrals.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously, I know one of the big conversations going into the weekend is you know, Riley no longer, you know, serving in the race announcer role and such.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: So, what was the dynamic like?
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: You know, I at times I saw you know Carissa doing Man on the Street interviews with a great interview with our buddy Rob, who was dressed up as a Swedish chef.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: That kind of went like mini viral over the weekend.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: But you know, just talk about the vibe because people were talking about like at one point, like with music and stuff like the vibe fell off in the family reunion area, but then there was like there was other um you know entertainment elsewhere.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: Just talk about that aspect of it, John.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: I'll John, I'll let you handle this, but let me uh comment.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Rob's costume game is gone next level.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, it has all the way through.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: He he really has all weekend, all weekend.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so kudos, kudos to Rob for the costumes.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Go ahead, John.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so my corral opens at 4:45.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: So, but I so I figured I'll get up at 2 you know, 230, get to uh you know, the bus about 3.30 and get there.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: But I got up two o'clock.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, if I go back to bed, I am they get that extra half an hour, I might wake up at 4 30.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: But so I got on the bus.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: I met Bob.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Bob was still in the corral.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: Uh no, I was still in a reunion area.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: In the reunion area.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: And but it was light.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: It was light.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: They had a live band and going on the band that plays in uh the United Kingdom.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know what their I don't know what their name off the top of their head is, but it used to be the English beat or the British, whatever it was, but it's and they're they're playing, it was they're good, it was it was there, but you know, it was a different vibe.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: But I did notice two things two different feeds.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: So the what while Corral A, B, and C are going out there, we don't see what's going on.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: They're playing something different on this the screen in front of the stage where we sit.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: So we had no idea what was happening over there.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: That that was different.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: So we didn't know, like, yeah, like you know, and I didn't see Carissa or John come out or that that could have been early in the morning, but I got there late, but that was there.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: So I was there, it it was it was there, but then Bob goes, I'm going into my corral.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: So I said, Okay, I'll wait here.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, is it is it like the first person in the corral now?
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Like when you get there early, like there's no one in there.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: There's people online still waiting for their photos, but when they when the everybody left there, they stopped the characters from coming out for a while.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: They they they waited for like 10 minutes for the characters to come back out.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: But then I'm sitting there, no one's coming.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: Like there's no one coming over.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe one or two people come over because the way it worked was A, B, and C went in the normal location for their corrals.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: D and E, which I was in, where they used to were at the end of the race weekend where they usually put the uh race distances in that little bump out corral area, that's where D and E was staged to go into the staging area, yeah.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: So I think a lot of the holding pen.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: So a lot of people coming off the uh the buses said, oh, here's D and E.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: You go over here.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: So they weren't really coming to the reunion area for the DE pre-show.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, pre-show.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: So that that that that's that's what I did see.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: And and like I said, you get that vibe.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Like used, like past five case, ten case, everyone's in the in the in the preunion area together, have that big alive energy vibe.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: There was no vibe there.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: So so for like there was a little but not that big energy.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: It's that big energy we used to get.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: So I walked back uh with I saw one of my friends, I walked back to DE, and we stood there and said, okay, we're letting you in now.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: And then, but we had no DJ or anything else.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: We're too far away to kind of see what's going on on this stage, and we can't see what's going on that stage.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: So we were kind of like out of out in left field.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: So, but it but then same thing.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: We walked in, got our bibs, put our the bibs in the uh the uh in the bucket, and we waited to start.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: I met two of our friends, uh, you know, Valeria and Dino, and I did the 5k with them.
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: The one thing I did notice there was time limits on not times like like this character stop, 30-minute wait, this character stop, 15-minute wait, this character stop, 60-minute wait.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: So they were giving uh wait times for the character stops, which I don't know if that was on your course too, Bob.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they were they were grossly overestimated.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what I heard, yeah.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: And then we heard we heard, oh, you know what, they might cut the cut the cut the character stop soon.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: So we we we kind of went through it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: We had a we had a good time and it was it was a fun race.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, but then the weird thing was like when I was done, I walked back, and then you see the runners running past you, the the the the F and F and group G going past you uh running on the course.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: I go, this seems weird.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: Like I'm like I felt like Jack, you know, you know, like where she does the 5k and she's out there cheering by the buses when we are still going past her.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it was it was interesting.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, there they can probably adjust some things there, I think.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: You know, maybe with the thing, but that's that's about it.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it wasn't as bad as people made it sound.
- 54:17SPEAKER_11: No, I'm gonna obviously I didn't run it.
- 54:19SPEAKER_11: I asked a lot of people about it, and yeah, I did hear negative stuff, but I'm gonna put out one positive thing is that Disney is trying to listen.
- 54:30SPEAKER_11: And I think they're trying to get more people into races that sell out fast.
- 54:37SPEAKER_11: It's a 5k.
- 54:39SPEAKER_11: They're trying to make a solution, and it's gonna have some bumps in the road, it's not gonna be perfect, and I'm sure over the next few weekends they'll make little adjustments, but I don't see it being a big change until 2027-2028 season to see if something's more permanent.
- 54:57SPEAKER_11: But just know going into marathon weekend, hopefully there might be little changes, but no, it's it's gonna take some work and Disney's trying to listen.
- 55:08SPEAKER_11: I I don't know, it'd be interesting.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: It's it's a little different.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: It's a little different.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: But the the game that gets more that's exactly what Run Disney's about.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: So, all right.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I the other 80 races I did were different.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: So what?
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: More people are in this now.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: I think that's the big deal.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: I think that's a strong positive.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: So one of the other things that was different about this race that only happens for dopey runners is the 5k bib had a chip on it.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it but it it does, I guess it was something for them to get some kind of data.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: I think it's more of a I think it's more of a data chip.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: So they say, okay, uh, you know, Bob it was supposed to start in Corral A, he started in Corral D.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, this one spent this much time on the course, so they have they got that kind of day to see what they need to do to tweak it for either marathon weekend or for next year, like Jack is saying.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah, could be correct.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: It's kind of weird having a 5K time on your uh results.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the the perspective that I got, you know, again, just observing all of this from afar, is that the the general consensus that I found is that people like the fact, you know, like that all of you just alluded to, Disney is listening, getting more people involved to be able to get into this sport and and beyond, which which I think is fantastic.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: Now, my personal hot take is while I'm I'm glad that Run Disney is expanding the field, I personally think they picked the wrong distance to do it in.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: I think they should have I think they should be expanding their numbers in terms of the half marathon challenges and and the marathon.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: But again, that that's a different conversation for a different day.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: But the the the vibe that I got from from people's race reports and such is that if you were in the first couple of corrals, because obviously I know like you know they slice you off, you know, with with the tape as you're going through.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: So that if you can make your way to the front of your particular race, then your experience is great.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: Character lines are extremely manageable, and it's business as usual.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: If you're middle to back of the pack of your designated time, it's not much of a different experience.
- 57:48SPEAKER_02: I did see the reports of you know overinflated character wait times.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I saw a couple of reports of families who were running together who were a little disappointed that like, you know, a kid you know, wants to get into a character line, you see 60 minutes for you know a race that should only take that long, and you know, and obviously, you know, maybe a little apprehensive to go and so so I can I can from a parent perspective on that, I can see that apprehension.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: But again, I think you know, kind of like attractions in the parks, things get overinflated to change people's minds to to make a different decision on the course.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, but the the one thing I did see too, as well from people's reports is that even though the character lines were longer, it seemed like the actual race course itself, people were saying, were was a lot less congested and made for a better quote unquote racing experience.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: I think that's true.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about it.
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, like I saw a ton of people's photos where, you know, in terms of like a 5k, like not many people around in that, you know, like that straightaway, so which you know does create for a lot of photos.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, I I'm right there with everybody.
- 59:01SPEAKER_02: You know, I good on them for for making these changes.
- 59:05SPEAKER_02: Obviously, it was not perfect, room for improvement, and it's gonna be really, really interesting to follow over the course of the race season.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: And I guarantee you, I bet they'll have it figured out by springtime, surprise.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: So we have a confidence in that.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:19SPEAKER_11: And only because you alluded it to it, Greg, and I'm only gonna allude to it as well, is the fact that you put a little pinpoint saying that you could see this going potentially for other races, like you know, just yeah, I think that could happen.
- 59:34SPEAKER_11: I think 5k is the start of it, and I do think there's gonna be openings, not this year, obviously, but next year, maybe, maybe who knows?
- 59:43SPEAKER_11: Maybe they'll add the 10K and see if they starts at 4 30 and then see later at the half and the full.
- 59:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because there's the reason why I say that is like, you know, I I look at the the numbers now.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: I I kind of look at it more from like a marathon weekend perspective, but like, you know, one of the first times I ever did marathon weekend, you know, your finisher number for the half marathon and the marathon was in the 20 plus thousand finishers.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, back in the day, yeah.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Our buddy Ryan posts all the time, you know, the the finisher numbers.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: And ever since COVID, you know, for like a half or or or greater, you know, you're in that like 16 to 17 range.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: So imagine if you could throw on another 5,000 half marathon bibs, uh, you know, I I think that would be really, really enticing to a lot of people.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: But again, I I guess in their mind they want to start small, and their idea of starting small is smaller distance, not necessarily smaller increase sizes for larger ones.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: And and I like, as a Run Disney guy, as a Run Disney fan of Exionato, I like that they are encouraging the people who are maybe the most intimidated by the races.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_01: This is the shortest one.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: Come on, see what it's all about.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm gonna get in a soapbox for just a second because I know it's not this group, but I've looked at other Facebook groups, people complaining about people walking at Disney races.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: I am stammering for words, trying not to get too fired up.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: Suck it up.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: This is Run Disney.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: This is the group that encourages everybody to be there.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_01: This is why I love it.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: This is the bet this is why Jeff Galloway loved it.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, people are gonna walk at Run Disney races.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: Too bad.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: If they can finish, that's all that matters.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: Do you feel better, Bob?
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: I know it's not this group, but I saw some of that and I really got irate about it.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm done.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_04: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: All right, well, let's uh let's move now to Saturday, and I guess back to some normalcy uh you know, in terms of what we're used to during a race weekend, and that is the 10K.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: Uh now, Bob, I I know I started with you with a 5K, but I I I want to go back to you for the start of the 10K because last week with Brittany, you said that you know, you you teased that you might do the goofy thing last minute.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: But you weren't gonna do any costuming.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: And then I think I saw you in a costume for all three races.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_02: So talk about your 10K outfit and and what your race experience was like.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: Well, my friend Stephanie, she and I have done the 10K together for uh probably the last couple years.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't anything either one of us planned, it just kind of happened.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: And Stephanie texted me early in the week, said, What are you doing for the 10K?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: I said, Nothing.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: She goes, All right, I'll work on it.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: I heard from her over the weekend.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: She said, I've got an idea for a costume.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: Maybe we can do this or that.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: And I went, Look, I'm pretty much game.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll I'll do whatever you want.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_01: She wanted us to be cats.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: I said, I'm not too excited about being a cat, but she goes, Okay, I'll work on it.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: So I get there Saturday morning, and she still hasn't told me what's up.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: I I knew it was up, Bob.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Did you know?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she she wasn't keeping it secret.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_01: She didn't tell me though.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: I saw her.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Look what I got from Bob to wear.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: Bob's wearing this.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: I told her I'd be a good sport.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: I know you know what?
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm not only being a good sport, I'm down with it.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think it's fun.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: Uh so yeah, I oh I I'm driving in again, and I get a little bit on the way, and Interstate 4 has a sign up.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Traffic stopped ahead due to a crash.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, this could be interesting.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: So I ask my car to take me a different direction, and it took me off at the next exit, made a U-turn, put me back on.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: I was past the crash.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: So that worked out.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_01: I'm walking in and and Stephanie, obviously excited, comes up behind me.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: She's dressed like a mouse.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: She hands me a bright yellow shirt that says, Pretend I'm cheese, and I put it on.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: She goes, Oh, that's not all.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: She has a cheese skirt for me.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: And I looked at it for a second, I went, ah, why not?
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: And so I got I got as many comments on that outfit, the two of us did, as any other than Groot.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, everybody commented on Groot, but I got as many comments, positive comments on that.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: So I congratulations to Stephanie, she came up with it.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: I was just I was just her of a very large dress-up doll.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_02: So, Nabob, the question I I have for you is so the other thing I noticed over the weekend is the big thing I and I'm not sure if you saw this because uh I'm not sure how often you go on Instagram, is um our buddy Vern over at uh Runs on Pizza created these stickers of um people in you know really, really well-known Run Disney costumes.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: Like, for example, there's a sticker out there of Tony and his starfish bra from Springtime Surprise a couple of years ago.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_02: And so when I saw that Vern was doing these, I messaged her and I was like, we really missed an opportunity here for a Tinker Bob sticker.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: So if we were to submit a photo of you to be part of these Run Disney sticker packs, would you want to be Tinkerbob or would you want to be pretend I'm cheese in your cheese skirt?
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: Well, Tinkerbob is more of a signature costume package, so I'll go there.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: Tinkerbob, Groot, Sam Eagle, uh, you know, take your package.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: Good to know.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_02: But you know, before we get to John though, let's get Alicia's thoughts on running the 10K.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_05: 10K day of the two-course challenge, the Grumpy Challenge this year.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_05: Um, it was perfect weather for this race.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_05: It was a little chilly in the morning, but otherwise it was really fantastic weather.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_05: I was in the corral with John and Allie that used to be on our podcast.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_05: And I decided to stay with them for the race.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_05: I haven't seen Allie in over a year, so it was nice getting to catch up with her.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_05: Um, and it was just overall a fun race.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_05: Jen was with us for a little bit, but yeah, overall the 10K we it went by really, really fast, honestly.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_05: Again, nothing super new about the course.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_05: John and I were both expecting there to be honey stingers, and then I was talking to somebody else, and they said no, there's never fueling on the 10K, but um, we both thought that there was, so we were expecting to have something, but that's okay.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_05: But otherwise, the the 10K was a lot of fun, um, and it was great catching up with Ali.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: All right, Alicia, yeah, thanks so much for that report.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: And obviously, you know, the one person that you ran with at this race was John.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: So, John, what was it like running with Alicia?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: Well, actually, uh, I met Alicia at the at the at Dr.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_00: Caralta reunion here.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: He goes, What are you doing?
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: He goes, um probably gonna just hang and gingerly do a gingerly walk, run, walk, maybe run a mile, walk a mile.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: Not gonna go crazy because I got the marathon half marathon tomorrow.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: So, okay, I'll I'll I'll maybe I'll stick with you.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: And then uh we're standing there, I'm waiting for Alicia.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: She had to go to DuPati, and uh our friend Allie, the from our old co-host, I missed her the whole weekend.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: I missed her.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: Comes up and says, John, I was like, what are you doing?
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_00: Because I'm I got an A corral, but I don't know if I want to go out of A because I don't know anybody in it.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_00: And so she said, I'll run with you.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_00: Jen's her friend Jen had D, because we had D for the 10K in that challenge, me and me and Alicia.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: So I'll run with you guys, but I'm not gonna let's just do what it happened.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_00: So I ran with Alicia and Ali.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: So it was like an old uh podcast reunion over here.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it was great.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: It was great running with Alicia and and Ali.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: We talked and reminisced of some of the funny moments on the podcast, how everything was going, how life was going, and everything.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_00: So it was it was really fun.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was like old times.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: I I I've run a bunch of races with uh with Allie in in past, and this is the second race I ran with Alicia.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_00: So uh it's really good.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_00: And it's really it was really fun.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, I had a good time.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_02: You know, John, hearing you talk about the the letters um you know on your bid for the challenge, the the one thing I before we hop back into the conversation about the races is um did either of you use our buddy uh Matt Marcella's um race or like corral predictor tool?
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: Um and and if you did, how accurate was it?
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: I was I was not for the 5k, not for the 5k, of course, because it's almost random, but yeah, for the challenge, yeah, but it's it said I should be in D.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: And uh it it was it was correct.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, who knows, you know, how close it was to those fringe areas at the top and bottom of the course, yeah.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_00: But yeah, but where I was, and I said I saw Alicia's bib, and I put Alicia's bib in.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, Alicia's probably running with me too.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_00: When she comes up, she had D, and it worked really well.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: I went out of V and he picked it right.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: All right, awesome.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: So well, congratulations.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: I put a lot of data to her.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I put a lot of I did.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: I put a bunch of races in there.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_00: That was that's something good that Matt did.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_00: So uh we should we gotta bring that back up later.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of good things.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no, he he's really been knocking out of the park, you know, the uh just that that whole operation.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: Uh so quittes to you, Matt.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: But um, I you know, before we leave the 10K though, uh, I mean, I know you guys aren't um you know huge character line photo folks, but you know, any interesting characters out on the course or any any other memorable moments from the 10K outside of pretending being cheese?
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: I I don't recall, I didn't get any character photos in the 10K.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: And you know, we we fussed about the lines in the 5K.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: The lines in the 10K are insane, so it's it's nothing new.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_01: Um remember, do you remember any characters that were unique?
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: I Pinocchio was out there at some time during the weekend, but I forget if it was the 10K or the half.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_01: He's not usually out.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I said we were just having a grand old time running together, walking and talking, and so it was like we had a we we didn't really pay attention to the characters.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: We saw, yeah, uh that's that's not where they so we kind of they weren't memorable enough for me, I guess, to say, let's stop and get a photo.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm the same.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_01: I'm the same.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: But again, you you pick two guys that are not really that a great sample size.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_02: All right, well, obviously, the other big event that occurs on Saturday is the Rise and Run meetup at uh Disney Springs in uh the artist formerly known as the food truck area.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, gents and and actually, you know what, Jack, I'm coming to you here because we haven't heard from you in a bit.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: What was your uh experience like at the meetup?
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_11: Um, I remember walking up because I was about seven minutes late, because started at three, I got there at 3.07, and um I just looked, I was like, wow, that's a that's a lot more people than I was expecting.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_11: Because that's kind of like the number that we usually get for like marathon weekend, because it's usually the biggest weekend with the most number of runners, you know.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_11: But yeah, I was genuinely surprised by how many people made it to the meetup, and that just it made me so happy.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_11: I got to talk to so many people.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_11: Um, it did kind of rain for like five minutes or whatever.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_11: It kind of scared some of us away, which don't blame them.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_11: I don't want to be soaked either.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_11: Um, but some of us found some like, you know, some area to take cover.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_11: Um, but yeah, I had some really awesome, genuine conversations.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_11: Um oh, I was asked John.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_11: Um, there's this uh kid, Connor.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_11: I believe it's Connor.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_11: He came, uh I was talking to him and he asked me one very specific question.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_11: He asked me, out of all of us, who would be the best DJ?
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_11: I I answered you, John.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_11: I hope you know with you with your 80s theme rock, yeah.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_11: You know, you on the drums and everything.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_11: I could just see you have like this most epic playlist.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_11: And so I asked him, and I was like, who do you think is gonna be the best DJ?
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_11: And he's he's like, you was like, really?
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_11: Uh that made me so that made me laugh so much.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_11: But yeah, that was good.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_11: I had genuinely had a lot of great interactions, and um, it was really, really great meeting with people and seeing them again out on the course was a lot of fun too because I was cheering.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_11: Uh but yeah, we'll get to that part later.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_11: But yeah, what do you guys think of?
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_02: Well, say, John, you you you shared in our group chat that you had quite the story from the meetup that you wanted to share.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_11: You didn't tell me.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_00: No, it's about because it was about you.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_00: No, oh no, uh no.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_00: No, so it was a so we we get there, me and Bob got there early and our wives, and we started, we were at one table and we spread to two, we spread to three, then other so we spread out and had a good beach headset.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_00: Then the wind kicks in and the cables are blowing.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_00: So they shut down the umbrellas.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_00: And then the funny part was, I think, that where was very interesting was which I'm kind of glad about the rain came.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not glad I'm not glad the rain came, but people all covered.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_00: They waited there.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_00: Then after the rain came, they just came back out and stayed.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: Like they just they didn't run for cover and say, okay, it's raining, I'm leaving.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: They they they they let what do you call it?
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: Uh held it out and they they came back and we had still had that big party going on.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, was it all the people?
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: No, but I would I would guess Bob at least uh three-quarters of the people stayed.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_01: Well we had we had two rain squalls go through if you recall.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the first one was nothing.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but right.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then the second one was a little heavier, and the second one was first one was before the photo, second one was after.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: Uh and the one after, I I know Becky started policing stuff up and was going to take it away, and I said, just wait.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_01: Because people did get undercover and a bunch of them came back.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_01: But John and I had lunch together, and we ended up in the area.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_01: We were probably there around 1 30, maybe 145.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_01: We were there quite early.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_01: Uh wasn't long before folks came.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: Uh Tara and uh Brian were there uh pretty early.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_01: And and and that's just the first name I'm noticed because a bunch of people came.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_01: And I'm starting to look and I'm I'm Jack, you weren't there yet.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_01: I'm looking around going, gosh, I I expected a whole lot more people.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_01: There's only maybe 30 or 40 people here, maybe 50 at the most.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_01: I look at my watch, it's quarter to three.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: So so uh yeah, by 315, 330.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: You've seen the photos.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: I I didn't get a chance to count them, John?
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I did two counts, right?
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_00: So the official, my official first first I put it through AI to count heads.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_00: It came up with 133.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_00: I count it by hand 126.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: Well, if you count hands, John, you have to divide by two.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_00: No, but but the but there was Oh, you didn't count hands.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, you counted people by hand.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm sorry.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but in the background, there is people not facing us, so they're they're added in.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_00: Things that kind of look like a head, I guess was added in because it it puts dots also in the AI tool I was using.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_00: So there are 126 people.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that's not including people that might heads have not been seen by uh Yeah, we we estimated 120.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: We were off a little bit.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_01: And I always with the photo, I always say add 10%, because there are people who were there earlier and left, people who came later and didn't get in the picture.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_01: And people taking the pictures, yeah.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_01: We had two young ladies, friends of the podcast, come by, say, oh, we came by right after the picture.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_01: And I tried to get everybody to get no, I didn't.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_01: No, I really didn't.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: But uh oh gosh.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: I I've I run out of things to say about the community and the rise and run family and how how heartwarming and wonderful it is to see everybody together, to see people who had not met before having a good time at this thing.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_01: And it's it's spectacular.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_01: I again I'm running out of words.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, it makes us feel awesome just to see all of you there and having fun.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: I'd we took it took about three days to get the cookies together.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_01: Becky worked on them.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, she works her tail off on the cookies.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_01: She she goes through the first couple of days more or less by herself.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: I help her a little bit, but honest to goodness, not much.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_01: And then when we get to the end, uh when we individually package each one, that's where that's where the teamwork gets involved.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_01: The packaging, and then of course, uh decorating those iced cookies.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_01: We had uh we had we have well our friends Richard and Krista are always in well for the last couple of races anyway, have been involved.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_01: They're a tremendous help because they'll bring the cookies over later.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll head out before Expo Day or on Expo Day.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_01: They'll they'll come on Saturday and bring the cookies.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_01: What a great help that is.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_01: In fact, at one point they told her, just go sit down, we got this.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_01: We got them all packaged.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm glad that they're enjoyed.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_01: Um Becky, she's she's not listening, okay, so we won't play this back.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_01: But she gets she just gets a kick out of the the fact that you all enjoy them so much.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_01: So and and there wasn't money left.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_01: There weren't many left at all.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know how many.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_11: I don't even see where they were.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_01: We probably I'm gonna guess five or six hundred cookies.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_01: Oh she's what'd she say?
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: Like twelve dozen, I think she said.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's more than that.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_01: That's only 144.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: It's more than that.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_01: Uh uh.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I she estimated.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_01: Well, those those big cake boxes, okay, that's what they are.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: They're large cake boxes.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_01: Two of them were filled with just the chocolate chip macadamia cookies, and they were all gone.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_01: And then those chocolate cookies, which we don't advertise, the fact that they're gluten-free and vegan.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_01: But if if you tell people that they won't eat them.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: But if you don't tell them that, they'll be gone because they're really that good.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_01: So uh I my sentiment is thank you, friends.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_01: Thank you for coming, thank you for sharing, thank you for being, thank you for making the Rise and Run family what it is.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_04: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_02: All right, we're up to Sunday.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_02: In terms of distance, we're up to the big show now, the half marathon.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_02: But for this particular race, we're gonna get Alicia's thoughts uh to start this conversation.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_05: So half marathon day, day two of the two course challenge, the Grumpy Challenge.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_05: Um, I was excited to do my 22nd um half marathon and my 11th wine and dine.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_05: It's always a fun experience.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_05: Um, I wasn't really sure going into it what I was gonna do, um, but I had decided the day before I wanted to try to go for a PR.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_05: Um, and I had talked to John and he was like, Well, I think we can do at least a 245 if I might go with you.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_05: Um, so we went in the cross together and we ran together.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_05: We did 3030, and honestly, we were on track to do a sub-245 for a while, but then we hit congestion.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_05: Um, and along the way, there was just a number of things.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_05: There was a medical um incident that we had to move over so an ambulance could get by, just the general congestion of the courses um was a thing, but overall it was a great race.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_05: I I was really proud of what we were able to do for that particular course.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_05: And I know a lot of people don't like Blizzard Beach, just like the Marathon course.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_05: I don't mind Blizzard Beach.
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_05: It's fine.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_05: I like seeing people as we go past.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_05: Um comparing last year and this year for the congestion going to and coming back from Blizzard Beach.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_05: Maybe it's because I started in D this time and that made a huge difference, but it was not as crowded.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_05: I mean, there was definitely congestion, but last year I couldn't even move.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_05: This year we we could do our running intervals um and move around people um at that piece.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_05: So that was good.
- 1:22:17SPEAKER_05: And yeah, overall the half marathon was really good.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_05: Um I'm happy.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_05: I'm happy with how it went and I'm excited to have another year of my perfect challenge status.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_02: Once again, thank you, Alicia.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_02: We'll be hearing from you one more time in the episode.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_02: But uh, John, let's uh let's talk about the half.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_02: And uh the first question, because again, I I saw that uh you ran with Alicia again, and I know one I point of contention isn't the right phrase here, but but maybe concern in terms of this course was were things going to be crowded again on the roads coming in and out of Blizzard Beach.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_02: So um, was that the case again?
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_02: And also other um course highlights and and I guess lowlights too, if you have them.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_00: That morning when I'm going to the bus, it's drizzling.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, okay, this could be a very interesting weekend race.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_00: Uh sort of sitting on the bus and it's drizzling.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_00: I got on the bus at 2.15.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_00: Buses are supposed to leave at 2.30.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_00: 2.30 comes.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_00: And there's two buses behind it, no less, okay?
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_00: So take that into consideration.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_00: 2.30, no buses leaving.
- 1:23:34SPEAKER_00: 2.35, no buses leaving.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_00: 240.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_00: I get up and I go, excuse me, aren't the buses supposed to leave at 240?
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_00: 2.30 goes, oh no, 2.42, this bus is leaving.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_00: What what why 240?
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_00: It's a uniquely specific time, isn't it?
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I because I I guess you I I said it's 2.40.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_00: This bus is supposed to leave 10 minutes.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_00: Goes, oh no, 242.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_00: It's leaving in two minutes.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_00: I'm like, but there's two buses behind it waiting.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_00: So it's not like it had anything to do with it.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_00: So we got there, it stopped raining, and of course, I Leisha goes, What are you doing today?
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_00: I go, I'm running the half marathon, you know.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_00: Uh like, no, like I go, I go, she said, she said, she was, we were talking all the weekend, like she wanted me to help pace one of her clients.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_00: But I said, but he said, I don't want to do that now because it's it's the road is red.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_00: The ground is wet and it's a little slippery.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_00: And especially in the boardwalk area, we didn't want to take any chances.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_00: So I said, okay, I'll run with you, Alicia, if you want, just till till you figure out what you want to do, and then you can leave me.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_00: So, but Alicia didn't leave me.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_00: She stayed with me the whole time, which was great.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_00: But the one thing we did notice, which I thought you talked about congestion, I think it was more congested between the start until we got past the the the squeeze weight than anything else.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_00: Like the first mile, even though it's a five-lane road, it was so congested.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_00: It was I don't know if they were letting the corrals out a lot quicker or whatever, but they were just flying out there.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_00: And it just got it was really congested at the beginning.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_00: And uh what corral did you start in?
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_00: D.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_11: D.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_00: D.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_00: So and I said to her, like, you know, as long as uh, you know, our friend uh Adam doesn't pass us because he's going out of F in the 310 uh pace group, we we should be fine today.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_00: Which was was great.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, highlights of the course.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, I like this course.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, people say they don't like this course.
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_00: I mean I didn't mind the Blizzard Beach.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_00: I mean it No, that wasn't bad.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_00: That wasn't bad because it's it's earlier in the morning, and you know, it's better than just you had you had two options.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_00: Let me go run another mile and a half out on the road somewhere and come back, or you're gonna see people either way.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_00: So, but it's the Blizzard Beach, it wasn't bad.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_00: And they had some entertainment, they had a band in there, so it was it wasn't bad.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_00: But then the only thing coming out of Blizzard Beach, because it did rain, right where you're going back on the road, it's a huge puddle.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_00: So the lake.
- 1:26:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_00: So uh we decided to go on the sidewalk and run the sidewalk.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_00: So but yeah, but and that wasn't that crowded.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_00: We were able to do our intervals pretty much non-stop after I said uh we we got past the Hollywood Studios without any problems.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't as crowded as people say it might have been.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know about Bob because Bob was Bob started in uh what F E E E.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_00: So it might have been a different story for you, but it wasn't crowded.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_00: And of course, I I I like this course.
- 1:26:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's enough, I know there's road miles on it, but it wasn't bad.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_01: Once you get out of once you get out of Hollywood Studios, that's it uh uh for parks.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_01: Well, until until the very end when you get back in Hipcock.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_00: We we did have an interesting event.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_00: So that last hill, you know, you know when you passed uh like Jody on the hill?
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_00: Around mile 10.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_00: Mile 10.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_00: All of a sudden we hear the ambulance coming.
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_00: They go, everybody's going, side of the road, they had to get an ambulance up that one-way road, which was luckily I think the person just fell and they needed to get the person out of there, but but they they had an ambulance on that road to try to get up.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_00: So you got to try to move everybody over to the side to get the ambulance up to the area to take the person out of there from their injury, which but which was scary because you know, hopefully you're thinking, what's the worst that's going on over here?
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_00: But it it looked like it was a leg injury.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, like you know, you don't want to see somebody getting worked on, you know, CPR wise with the paddles.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_02: Correct, yeah.
- 1:27:49SPEAKER_00: You know, but yeah, that that's all it seemed like it was.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_00: And uh they got out, then everything went back to normal.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_00: And then I'm running down, and somebody says they'll be by the bus stops, but.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_00: But they were a little earlier than the bus stops.
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_00: And I met Jack on the course.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_11: That was so good seeing you guys.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_11: Sorry.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like we got a good selfie.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_00: So it was it was pretty good.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_00: But we we did what we wanted to do and had a great time.
- 1:28:14SPEAKER_00: It was one of my better halves.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_00: And like on Strava, I PR'd Blizzard Beach.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_02: Well, congratulations.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_00: I go, yeah, it's a lot easier to PR Blizzard Beach at mile seven of a half than mile 21 of a full.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_01: That's a fact.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's for sure.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_11: So I I will say, John, when I saw you and Alicia, I was like, you guys don't even look like you ran 12 miles.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_11: You guys look like you could go on for the marathon.
- 1:28:41SPEAKER_11: We felt good.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_00: We felt good.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_00: We felt good.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_00: You know, so.
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_02: Well, Jack, you know, John brought it up.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_02: You know, you were the surprise uh in the Epcot bus area.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_02: What was your spectating experience like?
- 1:28:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:28:53SPEAKER_11: So instead of staying at the bus stop area, I was a little bit before the bus stop of the Epcot parking lot area before you enter there.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_11: But um I actually attempted to drive to Hollywood Studios because I didn't look at the event guide to see where spectating was.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_11: I was like, I wonder if there's a chance.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_11: I was like, don't what happens?
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_00: We did it, we we did an episode on a check.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_11: I when it was a while ago, I forget things, you know.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_11: But I I actually attempted to drive to Hollywood Studios because of like, what if the parking lot's open?
- 1:29:30SPEAKER_11: At the very least, I have my chair.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_11: I can sit there.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_11: I have my little plain bagel to eat for breakfast, and I'll wait for the first person to come by and I have my little cowbelt.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_11: That wasn't a little cowbelt, that thing was massive.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_11: I actually got a little blister on my hand from, you know.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_11: Um, but anyways, um, yeah, yeah, they had the cones out, so I had to turn around essentially or go follow the exit signs to exit Hollywood Studios and then drove to Epcot.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_11: So that was kind of disappointing.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_11: Um, but always fun cheering.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_11: Uh I wish it was earlier on the race.
- 1:30:09SPEAKER_11: If I had one suggestion to give Run Disney for spectators to cheer, because I feel like springtime and wine and dine, there's not many places to cheer.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_11: It's either at the very beginning or at the very beginning.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_11: Um and my thing is, is they open up Main Street for the half marathon for Princess and um the marathon for you know marathon weekend.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_11: My suggestion would be they should allow spectators to cheer along Sunset Boulevard or that yeah, or that first main strip as you enter Hollywood studios.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_11: Because I feel like this these this weekend specifically, and again springtime, there's not as much spectators to be able to cheer.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_11: Like by the time it was like the two and a half hour people um running by, um, it was really crowded, uh, cheering-wise, which is amazing because you want it to be crowded for cheering, you know, is it the hype, hype.
- 1:31:11SPEAKER_11: Um, but uh yeah, it was a great weekend.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_11: There wasn't as many people addressed this half marathon as I've seen in the past.
- 1:31:21SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know about that, Jack.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_01: Well no, I mean I you know as the as the distances get longer, the costumes.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_11: I mean, I'm I wasn't there for the 5k or 10k, so I didn't see any of those costumes.
- 1:31:34SPEAKER_11: I will say I did see a nice handful amount of uh, I think it's Mando or Mando.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_11: Mando Mando from Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_11: I was like, wow, he's a popular one uh for the half marathon, and that was a lot of fun to see.
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_01: I saw a lot of a lot of Mrs.
- 1:31:50SPEAKER_01: Banks, the sufferers.
- 1:31:52SPEAKER_11: Yes, votes for women, but that was very popular, yeah.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_11: I yelled at uh well, not yelled, but I cheered uh every once in a while when I saw those costumes like votes for women, yeah, you do, and like and I read my cowbell.
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_01: And then you get a blister.
- 1:32:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_02: There's a new sound effect that we need to isolated.
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_00: So that was another funny one.
- 1:32:17SPEAKER_00: So I said Alicia, one of our friends is going to corral array.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_00: Let's maybe we could try to get up and meet with her.
- 1:32:22SPEAKER_00: What's she dressed as Mary Poppins?
- 1:32:25SPEAKER_00: I go, uh, yeah, that's not that's not gonna happen.
- 1:32:31SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, okay.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of Mary Poppins wearing the Mary Poppins shoes on the course.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's hard with a brand new shoe for a half marathon.
- 1:32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and white.
- 1:32:44SPEAKER_00: It was yeah.
- 1:32:46SPEAKER_00: That race was a lot humid at the beginning for for me.
- 1:32:50SPEAKER_00: Well, the humidity did come up on Sunday.
- 1:32:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it did.
- 1:32:53SPEAKER_00: But then it got really nice.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_00: It got it at the end, it really came out perfect.
- 1:32:58SPEAKER_02: You know, one thing I I wanted to have a discussion on real quick before Bob we get into your half marathon experience.
- 1:33:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, something I noticed on Instagram today, um, our buddy uh Reinteats.
- 1:33:08SPEAKER_02: He had an Instagram story talking in because you had mentioned this earlier about the road miles and congestion and and such.
- 1:33:15SPEAKER_02: That apparently, at least from his perspective of running, entertainment-wise, from Miles, I guess, post uh Hollywood Studios, so like I guess like five to nine, um, he found a real lack of entertainment.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_10: Really?
- 1:33:33SPEAKER_02: And apparently, and because you know, one of the other things that he tracks to are the number of character stops.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if the rain maybe had potentially played into this or not, but that I guess in the last couple of wine and dine race weekends for the half marathon, you had about 24 to 26 pieces of either entertainment or characters.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_02: And this year there was only 18.
- 1:34:03SPEAKER_02: And he thought that that four-mile stretch on the road was really lacking.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_02: Did did any of you two notice that along the way?
- 1:34:12SPEAKER_02: And if so, do you have any any comments on that?
- 1:34:14SPEAKER_01: He's right.
- 1:34:15SPEAKER_01: He's right, but there is no place to put them.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_01: You can't, if you picture the road, you can't put them on the side that you're running on because there's there's nothing.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_01: There's a sidewalk.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_01: I guess you could put people on the sidewalk, but then you go back into what is a uh a vegetative area, so there's no place to put them.
- 1:34:35SPEAKER_01: And the other side of the road, it's a it's a four-lane divided highway.
- 1:34:39SPEAKER_01: It's too far away.
- 1:34:40SPEAKER_01: So there's really no place to put them.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_01: So that's true.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_01: And there was, as already been mentioned, there was something in Blizzard Beach.
- 1:34:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't miss it.
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't miss it because I love out and backs.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_01: And this is kind of maybe I'm being but I love seeing everybody, and I'm easy to see.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_01: So I get a lot of hollers on the out and backs.
- 1:35:06SPEAKER_01: It's fun, it's a lot of fun.
- 1:35:08SPEAKER_02: Re real life holler hypes?
- 1:35:10SPEAKER_01: Real yeah, real life.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_01: I I call them haybobs.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_00: Heybob! So I love them.
- 1:35:16SPEAKER_00: There was another thing that uh the map that we gave us was not the map we ran.
- 1:35:21SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:35:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we did not run we did not run through animation courtyard.
- 1:35:27SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 1:35:29SPEAKER_00: I I I'm going, I thought we were supposed to run through here, but I'm like, okay, maybe I got the wrong map together or something else, but it just seemed like a little different.
- 1:35:39SPEAKER_00: You know, like I go, I thought we were supposed to go here, but we kind of didn't.
- 1:35:46SPEAKER_02: So when when you exit Toy Story Land, wh which way did you turn?
- 1:35:51SPEAKER_02: Did you go left towards Animation Courtyard or did you go right towards the like Pixar area?
- 1:35:59SPEAKER_02: What do you mean the Pixar area?
- 1:36:01SPEAKER_02: Uh like like where the old entrance to Toys Toy Story Mania used to be.
- 1:36:06SPEAKER_00: No, we we went out and we went toward uh we came out of Toy Storyland, you know, up uh where what's that ride attraction?
- 1:36:14SPEAKER_00: The Walt's Dream.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, one main stream.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:36:17SPEAKER_00: One man one man's dream.
- 1:36:18SPEAKER_00: And then we went toward by the Brown Derby down uh Hollywood board.
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_02: So so in theory, the map you you would have just done like a quick U in the new courtyard.
- 1:36:30SPEAKER_00: Past the new sorceress hat and back out.
- 1:36:33SPEAKER_00: So but that was one thing I did notice that was different.
- 1:36:37SPEAKER_00: And mile marker eight was not mile marker eight.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_01: It seemed like it was like almost like a Oh that once in a while that does happen.
- 1:36:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm like, we should be coming up to my because my it was I know my watch was like a quarter, like a quarter mile off at one point.
- 1:36:51SPEAKER_00: They go, oh, we should be coming up to mile eight.
- 1:36:53SPEAKER_00: And it's like, but I don't see it.
- 1:36:54SPEAKER_00: I'm like, it's not here.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_00: But then they I guess they I guess like I said, Bob was saying, there's not many places to put stuff on that side of the road.
- 1:37:02SPEAKER_00: So maybe they put it at the safest place on that road.
- 1:37:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, especially because people love to get selfies in front of like each of the mile markers and that's a good point.
- 1:37:12SPEAKER_02: But Bob, uh other uh other half-marathon highlights for I don't have much to add.
- 1:37:16SPEAKER_01: Um, also saw a person fall and injured themselves, not life-threatening or anything like that.
- 1:37:23SPEAKER_01: The impressive part, the bicycles were there.
- 1:37:26SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna guess within 30 seconds.
- 1:37:28SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 1:37:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's great.
- 1:37:30SPEAKER_01: Again, I was with Stephanie at the time.
- 1:37:32SPEAKER_01: Stephanie, as many of you know, is a uh nurse practitioner.
- 1:37:35SPEAKER_01: So she stops, and it was an older woman who fell.
- 1:37:40SPEAKER_01: Not older than me, but uh not it not a young woman.
- 1:37:45SPEAKER_01: And uh she had she had tripped, bleeding from the face.
- 1:37:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to trade places with her.
- 1:37:53SPEAKER_01: I don't think she was seriously injured though, but no joke, the bikes were there less than 30 seconds, and we continued on.
- 1:38:01SPEAKER_01: The I'd already talked about the out and backs.
- 1:38:03SPEAKER_01: I'm at a point in my running career where as long as I'm finishing and doing it within the time that Disney gives us, I'm happy.
- 1:38:09SPEAKER_01: So I did run walk some of the time and walk walk some of the time.
- 1:38:13SPEAKER_01: Um, I did spend some time talking with John Pelke at the end of this race, and one of the things he talked about was the 5k day, about it was probably the longest day that they've worked except for the marathon, uh, because they went through we he he wasn't sure if they would go through different shows.
- 1:38:32SPEAKER_01: They went through basically the same show three times, and has already been talked about at all three race days.
- 1:38:38SPEAKER_01: They did some of the men on the street interviews.
- 1:38:41SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, other than other than that, it it finished a a lovely, wonderful, successful wine and dine weekend.
- 1:38:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm glad we're back.
- 1:38:54SPEAKER_01: I can't wait to do it again.
- 1:38:57SPEAKER_01: And happy running.
- 1:39:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's that's the end of the episode.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_02: I'll well, John and Bob, the the the last question I have for you in terms of racing is uh now that you completed this challenge and the 5k, do you feel grumpier now that you've done it because you uh can successfully completed um your uh your your first dwarf challenge of the year?
- 1:39:21SPEAKER_00: I was a little grumpy in the morning when I saw the rain, but uh but that was it.
- 1:39:26SPEAKER_00: F then after that.
- 1:39:27SPEAKER_02: But but that's Disney theming for you, right?
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_01: I'm still both happy and dopey.
- 1:39:31SPEAKER_01: And a little sleepy, and a little a little goofy, but that's not a dwarf.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what they were talking about.
- 1:39:36SPEAKER_00: People had their dopey metal and their grumpy metal now.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_00: So now I'm thinking, do we have to have a happy uh happy challenge and a sneezy challenge?
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't want the sneezy challenge.
- 1:39:49SPEAKER_00: Sleepy challenge, you know, dock challenge.
- 1:39:53SPEAKER_01: You know, if they want to do them, we'll do them, John.
- 1:39:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:39:56SPEAKER_02: Well, years ago, didn't they at the expo, you used to be able to buy that cotton t-shirt that was like the sleepy challenge 0.0 model.
- 1:40:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I think Becky has one, I think.
- 1:40:07SPEAKER_11: That one usually sells out like pretty fast.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_02: Well, let's let's finish off this uh this race recap with the uh the final event of the weekend.
- 1:40:17SPEAKER_02: You know, hopefully uh everyone took a nap and uh was able to make their way to Epcot for the after party.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_02: Uh John, um what what did you spend your$15 gift card on at the uh after party?
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, I didn't spend my$15 gift card at the after party.
- 1:40:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:40:37SPEAKER_00: Uh after the$5K, I went to the uh beer tan and got my pineapple cider for$16.77.
- 1:40:45SPEAKER_04: Oh inflation, man.
- 1:40:48SPEAKER_04: Well it's a killer.
- 1:40:49SPEAKER_00: It's taxed.
- 1:40:50SPEAKER_00: It's it's$15.75 in tax.
- 1:40:52SPEAKER_00: So I had a tap had a tap for a buck seventy-seven, but I did get the official cup.
- 1:40:59SPEAKER_00: Because when I after the half, because I did not bring my cup, I there was generic cups, so they ran out of cups again.
- 1:41:05SPEAKER_00: They did have a straw, they did have a strawberry cider there this time, but everybody said it's too sweet, so I went to the old reliable.
- 1:41:13SPEAKER_01: Although it sold out, John.
- 1:41:15SPEAKER_01: I saw the sign.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_01: I know, I did sell out, yeah.
- 1:41:18SPEAKER_01: I didn't have it.
- 1:41:20SPEAKER_01: I spent my 15 on Monday, Greg.
- 1:41:23SPEAKER_01: Ooh, okay.
- 1:41:25SPEAKER_01: Because I darn near forgot it.
- 1:41:27SPEAKER_01: And friends, if you forgot your$15 gift card, you've got, I think, until this Sunday to use it.
- 1:41:33SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it's probably it could be worthy to fly back down.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_01: No, anyway.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_00: Or if you got if if you got a friend down there, send them the code.
- 1:41:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:41:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:41:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:41:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but if you forgot to use it, you're not alone.
- 1:41:47SPEAKER_01: I've forgotten on several occasions, but I didn't this time.
- 1:41:50SPEAKER_01: I got a Sam Eagle, I think it's a Corksagle mug.
- 1:41:53SPEAKER_01: I'm not positive.
- 1:41:54SPEAKER_01: It's that style.
- 1:41:55SPEAKER_01: So I got a Sam Eagle coffee mug.
- 1:41:58SPEAKER_01: Imagine that, right?
- 1:41:59SPEAKER_02: Imagine that.
- 1:42:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:42:01SPEAKER_01: Happy to do it.
- 1:42:03SPEAKER_01: But I used it.
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_02: You know, and any um, you know, any special moments uh happened during the after party?
- 1:42:08SPEAKER_02: Uh uh did we uh did we have a nice group meet up at the uh Regal Eagle or Regal Beagle as as John likes to say from time to time?
- 1:42:16SPEAKER_01: You've you've been there before, Greg.
- 1:42:18SPEAKER_01: You know we uh don't get anything like the numbers that we get to meet up, and we don't expect to.
- 1:42:24SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 1:42:24SPEAKER_01: It's a chance to say goodbye.
- 1:42:26SPEAKER_01: A couple dozen people showed up.
- 1:42:28SPEAKER_01: It was nice.
- 1:42:29SPEAKER_01: That's that's really about all that I did.
- 1:42:32SPEAKER_01: We again we got there at nine and we hung there until I don't know, ten thirty or so.
- 1:42:38SPEAKER_01: Um some folks went on some rides after that.
- 1:42:42SPEAKER_01: Becky and I just slowly made our way out of the park, uh, ran into others as we made our way out of the park, so didn't get back to our hotel till midnight, but it was all good.
- 1:42:53SPEAKER_01: It it's a it's a nice nice, calm, fitting way to end the weekend.
- 1:43:00SPEAKER_01: Although actually I we get together for breakfast, quite a few of us got together for breakfast the next day.
- 1:43:06SPEAKER_01: Uh we filled up two tables, and then we had a third table of Rise and Runners right by us.
- 1:43:12SPEAKER_01: So that was really nice.
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_02: Did I hear that um at the after party they had a photo op set up with all of the metals that you could get all you know, those photos taken care of, and then you didn't have to worry about doing metal Monday?
- 1:43:28SPEAKER_02: Did any of you guys experience that?
- 1:43:30SPEAKER_00: I did not hear about that.
- 1:43:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:43:32SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't see it, Greg.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_01: It's it's very well could be true, but I didn't see it.
- 1:43:36SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 1:43:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:43:36SPEAKER_02: You know, and the and the other thing that you know, speaking of photos that you know I forgot to bring up and and ask you two about was did either of you take part of the photo ops or the new photo ops that they were doing at the expo?
- 1:43:48SPEAKER_02: I think it was in the the building with the bibs where like they had like the back drops of like the different metals and like there was almost like a locker room set up and such.
- 1:43:58SPEAKER_02: I I saw a lot of people um partake in that and the photos turned out really, really nice.
- 1:44:04SPEAKER_02: But I I was curious if if either of you did that as well.
- 1:44:07SPEAKER_00: We I we saw them going out.
- 1:44:09SPEAKER_00: So there was a wall of like every not every Disney metal, but like a lot of Disney metals on it.
- 1:44:14SPEAKER_00: And then there's like a a Run Disney like breakthrough uh shot shot.
- 1:44:19SPEAKER_00: Then and it said, oh that that's interesting.
- 1:44:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but we're like I said, we were just so early, we were just constantly constant movement going through the line.
- 1:44:27SPEAKER_00: So got it.
- 1:44:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, we didn't stop, but I don't know if that if that was like a Photoshop, like a Photopass area, or if that a pay area, I don't know what what that was.
- 1:44:36SPEAKER_02: I think it was PhotoPass, but you know, the comment that I was gonna make is I don't know if they were using like different cameras because I I thought the quality of the photos that were coming out of those particular areas that people were posting looked eons better than your traditional photo pass photo.
- 1:44:51SPEAKER_02: So if that's you know, if that worked for them, I really hope that they do carry that over to uh to other race weekends for sure.
- 1:44:58SPEAKER_02: Well, before we uh officially leave the weekend, uh let's get Lisha's take on the after party.
- 1:45:04SPEAKER_05: So for the after party for me, um I went over to Epcot at around 8.30-ish.
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_05: Um, and I got a cauliflower bowl from Morocco.
- 1:45:19SPEAKER_05: Um, and then I wanted to grab a drink from Japan.
- 1:45:23SPEAKER_05: I actually saw Allie um in line at the Morocco booth, which is funny because I had told her during the 10K that that was my favorite booth of um this year, and she was like, oh yeah, I want to try it.
- 1:45:36SPEAKER_05: So it was it was great running into her and Jen and Casey.
- 1:45:40SPEAKER_05: Um but I I got the cauliflower bowl and I went over and got a drink at Japan.
- 1:45:47SPEAKER_05: And right as I was coming out of the booth, somebody got up from a bench and it was right by the water, and so I got to sit down and watch the fireworks, and I could actually see even like the middle part, which was really cool.
- 1:46:01SPEAKER_05: Um, and ate and drank my stuff.
- 1:46:04SPEAKER_05: And then I made my way over to our meetup at the America Pavilion, um, which people were there beforehand.
- 1:46:13SPEAKER_05: I do have a suggestion for next year that maybe we should move it between nine and 10 because there's nothing to do then, and that's when people seem to come anyway.
- 1:46:22SPEAKER_05: So that was that was fun getting to see some people that I hadn't got to see this weekend.
- 1:46:27SPEAKER_05: Um, and then Diane, John's wife, and I we got in line and we went and got the specialty cocktail for the race weekend.
- 1:46:37SPEAKER_05: My gripe with that is we get a$15 gift card from Run Disney and it was$14.75,$15.71 with tax.
- 1:46:47SPEAKER_05: I feel like Run Disney could have figured out a way to make that just$15.
- 1:46:51SPEAKER_05: But anyway, the cocktail was good.
- 1:46:53SPEAKER_05: Um, it came in a glass that said Line and Dine 2026.
- 1:46:58SPEAKER_05: Um, this year it didn't light up, but it was still a good cocktail.
- 1:47:02SPEAKER_05: Um, and then I walked around World Showcase.
- 1:47:05SPEAKER_05: I went and got some more food.
- 1:47:08SPEAKER_05: I got the impossible chicken, um, which this year is like a spicy kind of lime sauce, which is uh a change from the buffalo that it usually is, but it was still good.
- 1:47:22SPEAKER_05: And I walked around the whole world showcase again, and then I went to the dance party, which was fun.
- 1:47:28SPEAKER_05: Um, I just kind of hung out and watched people and um danced a little bit, and then it started to rain, so I walked back to the hotel, um at which time then it started pouring.
- 1:47:41SPEAKER_05: I was planning to stay until 1 a.m., but 12:30 was was long enough with the rain.
- 1:47:48SPEAKER_05: But overall, um, it was a great time, and that's when I locked back, that's when I took the real video that I posted on our Instagram page.
- 1:47:57SPEAKER_05: And just a reminder to in enjoy life and have all the experiences.
- 1:48:03SPEAKER_05: But yeah, overall the weekend was really fun.
- 1:48:06SPEAKER_05: Um, and I'm excited for Marathon Weekend.
- 1:48:10SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:48:10SPEAKER_02: Well, that draws the uh the 2026 wine and dine half marathon weekend to a close.
- 1:48:16SPEAKER_02: But you know, let's just spend just a quick couple of minutes on this because like I mentioned during the Magic Bound Travel ad, literally about a half an hour before we hit the record button, there was an image that was leaked of the themes for the 2027 Wine and Dine race week.
- 1:48:39SPEAKER_02: And now, obviously, this is not confirmed.
- 1:48:42SPEAKER_02: We don't know if it's fake, we don't know if it was done by AI, we're not sure, but is creating quite a buzz online in our Facebook group and other Facebook groups.
- 1:48:52SPEAKER_02: So let's just chat about it real quick to see if this does come to fruition uh when we get true race themes in a couple of months.
- 1:48:59SPEAKER_02: But we're looking at a uh 5k themed to a boo from Aladdin, the 10K themed to Pinocchio, the half marathon themed to Elsa, and then thank god Bob's sitting down for the challenge, Sam Eagle for the two-course challenge.
- 1:49:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, baby.
- 1:49:26SPEAKER_02: If this is true, what do we think?
- 1:49:29SPEAKER_00: Great line.
- 1:49:30SPEAKER_00: Sam Eagle's coming back out of retirement.
- 1:49:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, not not not for the half.
- 1:49:35SPEAKER_00: I don't think Bob will wear that.
- 1:49:36SPEAKER_00: It's too hot.
- 1:49:38SPEAKER_01: It's too hot to wear for a half.
- 1:49:40SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 1:49:40SPEAKER_01: I wore it at the Fourth of July run in St.
- 1:49:43SPEAKER_01: Petersburg this year.
- 1:49:44SPEAKER_01: It's it's too hot.
- 1:49:46SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:49:47SPEAKER_01: I'll find something, I'll do something, but I can't bring that full outfit back.
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_01: Not for a half marathon.
- 1:49:54SPEAKER_01: For a 5k, sure.
- 1:49:56SPEAKER_01: Not for a half.
- 1:49:56SPEAKER_01: But that's exciting.
- 1:49:58SPEAKER_01: That's exciting.
- 1:49:59SPEAKER_01: I guess I'll have to.
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_01: keep guess I'll have to keep going.
- 1:50:05SPEAKER_00: Kinda weird Greg because uh it looks like it's partly cut off at the one side but uh but I don't know if that that's that's what it what it is but yeah I I don't know think they would have them already set up for next year already.
- 1:50:19SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't fry one the one comment I saw on Facebook now I I tried testing this and it didn't work is that when someone clicked or like searched the image on Google search images the hyperlink took them to the wine and dine page on Run Disney.
- 1:50:38SPEAKER_02: So that's why they're thinking that it could be like somewhat credible but yeah again this is all speculation this is not confirmed so you don't say I heard I I heard confirmed themes on the Rise of Run podcast.
- 1:50:51SPEAKER_02: Clearly that's not the case um but if it is true I I think there's stellar themes and what I like what I like about the artwork is that it is a a character and I guess you can make the argument that it was similar you know to this past year's theme but I like how it's a character that is a that you can associate with a country from world showcase in Epcot which I I I think is really cool.
- 1:51:17SPEAKER_02: And obviously if it is Sam Eagle for the challenge I gotta start racking my brain now about doing a challenge because obviously everyone lost their minds in a really positive way when we had the Swedish chef as a 5K theme was that two years ago for Wine and Dying now or or I think it was 2024.
- 1:51:40SPEAKER_02: So you know if again if true really glad to see the Muppets back into the floor right I think it's a red herring Greg.
- 1:51:46SPEAKER_00: Okay I think it's it's for Star Wars they're gonna have Star Wars characters.
- 1:51:51SPEAKER_02: Ronto wraps uh blue milk you know the whole nine yards that's it telling you you're you're really not giving up hope not giving up large a new hope you're not giving up a new hope.
- 1:52:02SPEAKER_01: Well if if it is true this is far and away the biggest lead time we've ever seen yeah yeah some some developer screw it up some yeah maybe somebody new I did I just did it Greg so I went on I put 2027 Wine and Dine half marathon in Google and I picked clicked on images and I see the Run Disney logo five hours ago and I clicked on it and it brought me right to the Run Disney site which brings me to the current wine and dine yeah 2026 yeah yeah so I don't know I mean either that or maybe it was a plan leak to get everyone excited now that the race weekend's over but we'll have to wait and see.
- 1:52:48SPEAKER_02: I mean that we don't have the official race calendar as of yet typically the last couple of years that's getting released right before marathon weekend.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_02: So we'll at least you know in a couple of weeks get an indication if that leaked date was correct.
- 1:53:04SPEAKER_02: And I think in the past couple of years wine and dine registration has usually been in like March I believe so it it will be um you know sooner rather than later when we'll find out if uh you know what was released here on Tuesday October 27th was correct or not.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_01: I'm always amused when people ask those questions when is registration and all that I we've only been doing these races for 10 plus years.
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_01: You'd think we would know by now and I can't remember I don't write it down.
- 1:53:32SPEAKER_01: They change yearly yeah I don't write them down.
- 1:53:35SPEAKER_01: Sometimes they're earlier sometimes they're later yeah all right thanks John that's my story and I'm sticking to it all right I appreciate it appreciate the cover buddy caution runners the topic is about to change right now all right friends look uh great wonderful I miss you all already in fact I miss you all so much we're gonna have a zoom this week how about it this week day of release Thursday October 29th it's almost you can come in costume to the zoom if you want to it'll be fun but login instructions are posted on the Facebook page really hope to see you there because like I say miss you already in addition to the zoom that's coming up this week I want to try to have an afternoon on the East Coast time zoom for our friends in Europe.

- 1:56:07SPEAKER_01: Tom's still coaching no challenges right now he's got other things to work on I did get a chance to see Tom this weekend looking good as ever so if you're interested and again great program Stokes.fit slash rise and run coaching let us uh talk through the race report for this week I had it we had a race on Thursday in Melbourne Florida Lucy ran the Florida Tech HOCO H O C O two Miler didn't get a report on that through the weekend friends so many wine and dine reports of course we can't get to all of them I started to go through and make notes of PRs and I realized very quickly that if I tried to do that for every one that I would catch I would miss two.
- 1:56:58SPEAKER_01: So this one very significant PR bell is for all of you who PR to race this weekend at Disney World So let's start on Saturday where Jennifer was out in California for the Nike after dark LA half marathon around Redondo Beach and Himosa Beach Lessa she's been busy lately the Relay for Life Bridge for Hope 4K or 8K in Irwin Tennessee she ran the 8K out in California in the Anaheim area Alan and Grace did the trick or trot 5K each of them placing first in their respective age groups last time Alan placed in in an age group was 1985.
- 1:57:49SPEAKER_01: Remember 1985 kids no no yes no I do it it depends on what month of 1985 okay okay now Alan says I predicted it because of age attrition yeah that does help us so all right Alan if that worked for you I'm happy that it did so it since he be since he became in first is his code now Alan one you know Alan posted I got a kick at it Alan posted that how did you find Ryzen run?
- 1:58:21SPEAKER_01: And our friend Martin posted uh I used the code Alan 10 and I thought that was hilarious.
- 1:58:27SPEAKER_01: I saw her by the way I saw her we saw her Sunday night she was with and I forget if it was her mother or mother-in-law who had just done the 5k 89 years old yep yep just done the 5k looked terrific yep she's doing she's ready to do more yeah so I I said I wouldn't talk much about wine and I races but that that impressed me gave me something to shoot for so you what you're what I want to be when I grow up how's that that was great oh let's see the Arkansas 20K was in Benton Arkansas Ryan ran it Kelly and her husband Dave did the Purdue Boilermaker half in West Lafayette Indiana now Dave's a proud Purdue alum Kelly's an Iowa Hawkeye it's a mixed marriage they they ran it as a catered training run prepping for Marathon weekend but the weather was so nice they finished just a few minutes off of their respective PRs uh nice course mostly flat goes through the Purdue campus some areas some nature areas outside of West Lafayette finishes just outside of Ross Aide Stadium I'm not sure the name of it ADE I assume that's Aid it is now Ross Aid Stadium in Philadelphia Lizzie did Lizzie's 30 flirty and sprinting 5k now let's explain here Lizzie decided that the best way to celebrate her 30th birthday was to become a race director and throw her own race for her birthday she did such a great job with this if I didn't have to travel for work I was going to be there for this but but she did a stellar job and happy birthday Lizzie 26 participants for a lot of them it was their first 5k they had their own balloon ladies walking the race they had themed bibs the bibs look terrific and they had medals and post-race treats I don't know if she gave out cheesesteaks or what she did.
- 2:00:24SPEAKER_02: Were they from Costco Greg uh no uh I I I don't know where she purchased all of her uh post-race food from but I do not think it was from Costco.
- 2:00:33SPEAKER_01: Good job Lizzie and happy birthday by the way in Arizona Christina ran the half marathon at the Grand Canyon Trail race.
- 2:00:44SPEAKER_01: Well I'd like to hear about that Christina that sounds exciting Heather was in Greenville South Carolina for the Sphinx Runfest half marathon whereas Christina was at the Grand Canyon Heather was at what she's calling a flat course until about the last mile this ends at Flower Field where you get to run the bases to the finish line and she PR in fact she got her first sub three hour half marathon ran it back in 2024 beat her time by 14 and a half minutes way to go.
- 2:01:20SPEAKER_01: What a great way to celebrate her 10th half marathon Caitlin in Batavia Illinois ran the Batfest 5K coming off Chicago her first marathon in the PR now I missed her in Chicago so we owe her a PR bell for Chicago there you are Caitlin I'm sorry about that.
- 2:01:42SPEAKER_01: Every now and then I miss when there's so many races she really didn't plan to go hard because she's coming off Chicago she took it kind of easy the school where she teaches they have a running club most of the students in the club come and do this 5K there were about 30 fourth and fifth graders there.
- 2:01:57SPEAKER_01: She ran with a student the whole time the student took off when she saw the finish line and she couldn't let her just leave so they sprinted across and the student young student won nicely done nicely done Caitlin let's go to Hicksville Hicksville New York the Hicksville Fire Department had a 5k Eileen was there.
- 2:02:20SPEAKER_01: She PR'd by almost two minutes and finished first in her age group pretty cool Carrie Ann was at the beats at the block 5K in Jacksonville Florida a little bit of FOMO for not being at Wine and Dine so she signed up for this one.
- 2:02:40SPEAKER_01: Fourth in her age group even with a hard rain in the last mile pretty cool experience pretty cool probably also pretty wet Kylie and her husband Dave are in Murfreesboro Tennessee for the inaugural Hops half in Murfreesboro.
- 2:02:59SPEAKER_01: Husband uh Cottie's husband Drew and she went out with the plan just to finish few serious surgery complications from Drew's sinus surgery set their training back.
- 2:03:14SPEAKER_01: He's all healed up now glad to hear that uh together side by side they got it done.
- 2:03:19SPEAKER_01: Drew joked that maybe they can be perfect runners at this one since they'll never be perfect at a Disney event don't feel bad.
- 2:03:28SPEAKER_01: That's true of a lot of us Kylie only Alicia is practically perfect in every way in this group but that's okay.
- 2:03:35SPEAKER_01: We love you all anyway.
- 2:03:37SPEAKER_01: Let's see Joe was in Arkansas somewhere I guess Greenwood Arkansas for the Greenwood Veterans 5K two of the amigos hit the road in the 75 to 80 age group Johnny took first and Joe took second 75 to 80 Joe's 80 that's right he's 80.
- 2:03:56SPEAKER_01: He'll be 81 next month Bob so he'll be a new age group next year.
- 2:04:00SPEAKER_01: He's getting there I you know I'm so impressed number one by the fact that they're still out there doing it and number two I'm impressed that they've got multiple people I'll go to races here and I'll win my age group by being the only 70 year old 72 but being the only person in that group but they've got multiple folks in Arkansas doing it.
- 2:04:22SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 2:04:24SPEAKER_01: The Rocky Horror Trail Race 10K takes place in San Antonio Joseph did it Joseph said and I quote I pulled a jack the uh the elevation was crazy it was like scaling rocks on a trail every other mile and the course ended up being almost a mile longer than planned he finished second in his age group that's pretty cool uh most challenging 10k he's ever done and if he's not doing wine and dine next year he's gonna do it again.
- 2:04:58SPEAKER_01: Our man in South Florida Robbie was at Miami Beach for the freaky four miler as an annual Halloween run.
- 2:05:07SPEAKER_01: A half marathon and a four miler wow uh it was a nice day low temps low humidity same weather we had at uh Wine and Dine.
- 2:05:19SPEAKER_01: Strong winds though down in Miami.
- 2:05:21SPEAKER_01: It was dealing with a case of plantar fasciitis in his left foot a the bane of many runners but he powered through finished did a good job.
- 2:05:32SPEAKER_01: Let's finish up Saturday in Des Moines where Matthew and his wife I believe it was did the Monster 5K ran as Hercules and Megara.
- 2:05:45SPEAKER_01: This was Matthew's first race since Dopey 2025 he PR'd by eight minutes way to go another weekend event in addition to the ones that we were doing in Orlando the end of the road half marathon and four mile tunnel traveler challenge in waterfall Pennsylvania we've talked about this one before the end of the road run there.
- 2:06:09SPEAKER_01: This one is interesting Yvette did it this year beautiful course on an abandoned portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike the oldest turnpike in the country that includes a tunnel that is two miles long requires you to wear a headlamp.
- 2:06:27SPEAKER_01: During the half on Saturday she fell three miles in and hurt her hand and ankle was able to make it to the finish and then walked the four miles on Sunday ah let's swing in the Sunday from this is interesting Shemika did the wine and dine 5K all right great I didn't see her there.
- 2:06:49SPEAKER_01: I saw Shemika in burden hand but did not see her at the 5K then she did the Swiss City half marathon in Luzerne Switzerland on Sunday anybody else anybody else do a 5K in Florida and a half in Switzerland?
- 2:07:04SPEAKER_01: Raise your hand anybody anybody no no hands okay I I did run through Germany uh on Sunday you you went through a few countries pretty daggum cool I saw a photo with both medals shaved three minutes from her half marathon pace even though the course was a little long she thought it was just her uh for a while but the course not being right then she saw other folks talking about it also uh don't know if it's PR because not technically sure how long the race was that second that's you're burying the headline you ran a race in Florida and in Switzerland that's amazing good for you I mean we've had friends run in Florida and then in Boston and stuff like that but not all the way across the across the ocean.
- 2:07:59SPEAKER_01: Speaking of across the ocean Anna was in Valencia Spain for the Valencia half marathon this is a biggie about 26,000 people she was in the last corral started at 925 in the morning so they got the brunt of the Spanish sun and it was hot temps getting up into the low 80s Fahrenheit fast and flat course good crowd support lots of entertainment even managed a character stop she felt good she managed at 219 so that's a new proof of time for her second fastest half marathon ever great job the seven bridges races 5K 10k half and full were in Chattanooga Tennessee Lessa was there for the full and Holly was as well Hilly course finished with a 15 minute PR celebrated by visiting the Tennessee aquarium never been to the Tennessee aquarium I imagine it's nice this is a big one and I'm surprised I didn't see more first of all I didn't see Thomas ran the Marine Corps marathon in Washington DC when I think of marathons throughout the country of course we got the three world majors but then right below that we've got big events I consider uh Disney World one of them uh but definitely the Marine Corps marathon is one of the biggies and apparently we didn't have many folks running it this year and Thomas didn't get a chance to send us a report so if we hear back we'll catch up on that one later.
- 2:09:39SPEAKER_01: All right in Southeast Wisconsin Heidi ran the Shorewood Hot Cider Hustle half marathon beautiful day for running beautiful fall colors along the race course her friend drove up from Illinois to run with her that was a nice surprise she tied her previous PR of 2016 in an attempt to reach her first sub two half it's gonna happen.
- 2:10:08SPEAKER_01: It's gonna happen stick with it you've got this Heidi but I find it interesting that you tied at such a specific time 2016 which by the way is an outstanding time so congratulations.
- 2:10:21SPEAKER_01: Now there was a race in Chandor Arizona I think it may have been called the Arizona State 48 don't know but I know Kathy did it it was half number 20 for her and Arizona's her home state this is a big deal she overcame much adversity these past two months and adopted a different training plan.
- 2:10:44SPEAKER_01: Dealing with a nagging old age toe bone spur sounds painful ramped up her cardio and cross training with more biking and elliptical and in the middle of trying to catch this race report I cut this off Kathy I think you also talked about doing a lot of aqua jogging I'm almost positive even though it's not in my notes that you did that and congratulations on being creative keeping yourself active and finishing this event up in Hamilton Ontario Canada Phaedra did the VR Pro Halloween races somebody was asking me if our friend David was at Wine and Dine and he was not he was in Atlanta Georgia for the PNC 10 miler training's been a little up and down for David lately.
- 2:11:38SPEAKER_01: He's had some back at issues at him cutting back for a bit so wasn't entirely sure how this one would go but he felt pretty good even though the hills in Atlanta can provide a nasty challenge.
- 2:11:50SPEAKER_01: His stretch goal was to finish this in under one hour and thirty minutes finished in one thirty two oh three that's still a huge PR And an excellent time for a 10-mile event.
- 2:12:03SPEAKER_01: Out on Long Island, Megan did the Green Lawn Fire Department Halloween 5K.
- 2:12:10SPEAKER_01: After running Chicago two weeks ago, her planning was planning was to take it easy, but she ended up feeling great.
- 2:12:17SPEAKER_01: She went for it and ended up with a new 5K PR and an age group first place finish.
- 2:12:25SPEAKER_01: Great start to the weekend.
- 2:12:28SPEAKER_01: Way to go, Megan.
- 2:12:30SPEAKER_01: The Allerton Park almost 10K trail run with coffee and donuts.
- 2:12:36SPEAKER_01: I kind of like a title like that.
- 2:12:38SPEAKER_01: Stephanie did it.
- 2:12:39SPEAKER_01: Stephanie's first trail run did better than she expected to.
- 2:12:42SPEAKER_01: A lot of it was I think they called it single track.
- 2:12:45SPEAKER_01: Is that right, Jack, where it's hard to pass people?
- 2:12:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:12:48SPEAKER_01: Uh that was that way for most of the race.
- 2:12:51SPEAKER_01: Uh the last hurrah was up a big hill that was grassy, which can get pretty slippery, but the finish line was in view, so you push yourself to get there.
- 2:13:01SPEAKER_01: Coffee and donuts, banana and oranges at the end.
- 2:13:05SPEAKER_01: An amazing experience.
- 2:13:08SPEAKER_01: Hey, this one sounds like a neat race, too.
- 2:13:10SPEAKER_01: The Binational Half Marathon goes from San Diego to Tijuana in Mexico, and Jennifer was there.
- 2:13:18SPEAKER_01: Uh great race.
- 2:13:19SPEAKER_01: The course was amazing.
- 2:13:21SPEAKER_01: Minus the Kill Your Legs Hills starting at mile nine.
- 2:13:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, but the views of the ocean at the top of the hills made it worth the climb.
- 2:13:30SPEAKER_01: That plus the medals.
- 2:13:32SPEAKER_01: Didn't get to ride the Run Disney buses, though.
- 2:13:34SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, okay.
- 2:13:35SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 2:13:36SPEAKER_01: Good job, though.
- 2:13:37SPEAKER_01: Good job.
- 2:13:38SPEAKER_01: Fun race, Jennifer.
- 2:13:41SPEAKER_01: Lori in Canal Fulton, Ohio, the Haunted Forest Half Marathon, half number 179 for Laurie.
- 2:13:48SPEAKER_01: Not her fastest, but a good effort.
- 2:13:51SPEAKER_01: After she finished the half, she went back out to the course to help some friends.
- 2:13:56SPEAKER_01: Jimmy was in Nashville for the Nashville Half Marathon.
- 2:14:00SPEAKER_01: He saw that the medal was the stained glass from the Ryman Auditorium, knew he needed it.
- 2:14:07SPEAKER_01: Thought Knoxville and Dollywood was bad for Hills, but Nashville definitely takes the prize.
- 2:14:12SPEAKER_01: After the race, he knew he needed picks in front of the Ryman.
- 2:14:15SPEAKER_01: To his surprise, they were filming an episode of Nashville 911.
- 2:14:20SPEAKER_01: He didn't know if he was caught on the film, but if he did, this will be the second time he's shown up in the background of a TV filming.
- 2:14:29SPEAKER_01: Lance and Amy were in New Orleans, Louisiana for the big easy Halloween half.
- 2:14:34SPEAKER_01: This was a flat course that passed Lance's alma mater, the University of New Orleans.
- 2:14:42SPEAKER_01: They split up around mile nine so Amy could run like she stole something.
- 2:14:48SPEAKER_01: They both ended up with PRs and New Proofs of Time.
- 2:14:55SPEAKER_01: Wrapping up in Central Park, New York City, Brianna did the Kids TCS NYC Marathon kickoff.
- 2:15:06SPEAKER_01: Volunteered with the best job of giving out medals to tons of young athletes during the race that is free thanks to Teams for Kids.
- 2:15:17SPEAKER_01: There you go, my friends.
- 2:15:19SPEAKER_01: The race report for episode 266 of the Rise and Run Podcast.

- 2:15:45SPEAKER_01: This is this is, and we'll talk about more about this later.
- 2:15:48SPEAKER_01: This is the hard part of the training where the training numbers get big, but the end's not quite in sight yet.
- 2:15:54SPEAKER_01: You can do it.
- 2:15:55SPEAKER_01: Keep it up.
