Transcript
- 0:06Daniel Moore: They say marriage is a journey, but sometimes that journey feels more like driving down a gravel road with four flat tires, no GPS, and your spouse insisting to know a shortcut.
- 0:16Daniel Moore: But what happens when you finally stop trying to navigate your marriage on your own and let God take the wheel?
- 0:21Daniel Moore: This week we're continuing our conversation with Austin and Goldie Young, whose testimony reminds us that God doesn't just restore broken marriages, he can completely transform the people inside of them.
- 0:33Daniel Moore: Last week we heard how betrayal, addiction, and broken trust nearly destroyed their relationship.
- 0:38Daniel Moore: But God's grace began rewriting their story.
- 0:41Daniel Moore: This week, we're digging into what happened after that turning point, because getting right with God doesn't mean every marital problem magically disappears.
- 0:50Daniel Moore: We're talking about learning to communicate without keeping score, choosing forgiveness when the wounds are still fresh, putting God first and your spouse second, and discovering that rebuilding a marriage takes more than a prayer and a few good intentions.
- 1:03Daniel Moore: Austin and Goldie also share some incredible moments of God's faithfulness and how he's now using their painful past to encourage other struggling couples.
- 1:12Daniel Moore: So tune in this week because this conversation is going to be honest, sometimes it's a little funny, and it's packed with reminders that your past doesn't have to determine your future when you let God write the next chapter.

- 2:07Daniel Moore: Well, as we stated in the intro here, this week we're going to continue our conversation.
- 2:12Daniel Moore: Last week with uh Austin and Goldie Young, they sat down here and gave us an in-depth look into their life, how their relationship started, how all those rough paths that they were taking was basically destroying the relationship that they had between each other.
- 2:28Daniel Moore: But as we know, God does take the will sometimes when we'll let him do that.
- 2:32Daniel Moore: And that's what they had chosen to do in their relationship.
- 2:36Daniel Moore: And last week, as we left that conversation, uh, we left with Austin talking about his life-changing experience of giving his life to Christ.
- 2:44Daniel Moore: This week we're going to pick up that conversation where we left off.
- 2:48Daniel Moore: We're going to continue to talk this week to Austin and Goldie as they share what God is now doing in their lives.
- 2:55Daniel Moore: As you mentioned earlier, when you was first starting with your testimony, you talked about a lot of the conflicts and stuff because of your background, baggage, and that kind of thing.
- 3:24Daniel Moore: So we know that just because we become Christians, it doesn't fix all that stuff at the snap of a finger, you know.
- 3:32Daniel Moore: You guys' uh testimony is awesome because God took away the alcohol, he took away the drugs, and he took away the suicidal tendencies and you know the messed up mind games that are going on, all that kind of thing.
- 3:43Daniel Moore: Uh God came in and you know eradicated a lot of that.
- 3:46Daniel Moore: Um, but we know that when it comes to relational issues, um, those are a real struggle for a lot of people.
- 3:52Daniel Moore: So now that you guys are kind of on the same page at this point and you've given your life to Christ and you're starting forward, what does the picture look like now where you're starting to navigate through these marital relationship issues?
- 4:07Daniel Moore: Uh, what was some things that you guys had to start putting into place to try to correct some of that?
- 4:12Daniel Moore: The biggest thing is prioritizing one another.
- 4:16Austin Young: Um the big the the biggest awakening moment I had was an illustration I saw with God the Father's first above, and underneath is you and your spouse.
- 4:25Austin Young: Yeah.
- 4:25Austin Young: Because culture and everything else has it twisted.
- 4:27Austin Young: It's like God first, you know, your family, your mom, your dad, or whatever, your kids, your job, hobbies, yeah, hobbies, and then your spouse.
- 4:35Austin Young: And at the end of the day, when all that's gone, all you have left is your spouse.
- 4:39Austin Young: Your kids move out, you retire, uh, your hobbies get old, who what do you got left, you know?
- 4:44Austin Young: So I I I knew that I had to invest into the person that was gonna be end up being my best friend.
- 4:51Austin Young: And that was the the biggest switch was prioritizing her over anything else and everyone else.
- 4:58Austin Young: Because then that caused me to cut out my family's opinions, which is not very good advice anyways.
- 5:04Austin Young: Right.
- 5:04Austin Young: Yeah.
- 5:06Austin Young: Um but then that that also helps because then it's like it gives me room to think for myself and not uh carry in what my family does or what they say.
- 5:15Austin Young: You know, what does God say about this?
- 5:17Austin Young: How do we do it?
- 5:18Austin Young: So that was the biggest thing, and then learning what forgiveness is and turning the other cheek was was probably the biggest thing for me, because I'm I'm really bad about this tit for tat thing.
- 5:28Austin Young: Um it's gotten better.
- 5:30Austin Young: Um but uh back then I was it was really bad.
- 5:33Austin Young: So learning how to forgive and prioritizing your spouse first was probably the biggest thing for me, because then they it does help with the forgiveness and other things like that.
- 5:43Austin Young: But I don't know if you feel the same or not.
- 5:46Goldie Young: Yeah, like and I and another thing was just like I think the hardest thing for me was undoing what we already knew how to do as a couple.
- 5:57Goldie Young: Like undoing all of that, like it was all wrong, we have to redo this, and that was hard.
- 6:03Goldie Young: Like actually sitting down and putting in the hours of okay we we we used to deal with this like this, and it didn't really fix a problem.
- 6:16Goldie Young: It just pushed it to another day, another argument, another whatever, you know.
- 6:22Goldie Young: I'm like, but actually sitting down and working through this problem until we figure it out and fighting the problem and not each other.
- 6:30Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 6:31Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 6:31Austin Young: So something else too, like uh the the idea of like communicating and talking through, because you you always see this is my like epiphany moment, you always see like uh the couples have been together for eighty years, like, how did you guys, you know, work it out for eighty years?
- 6:47Austin Young: And they always say that communication, and that sounds so good in theory, but it's like it's hard.
- 6:52Austin Young: What does that look like?
- 6:53Austin Young: Yeah does it look like I'm right, you're wrong, you're right, I'm wrong.
- 6:56Austin Young: Does it look like I'll lay down my sword, you lay down your shield, we'll meet in the middle?
- 7:00Austin Young: Like what what does communication look like?
- 7:03Austin Young: And the biggest thing I had to figure out was there is no winners or losers in the in in communication.
- 7:10Austin Young: There's only us coming together to work out a problem.
- 7:13Austin Young: Right.
- 7:14Austin Young: And that was the biggest thing for me, because I always thought, like, when someone said, You guys have to communicate, like we were gonna like figure it out, it was gonna be a magical moment, we were gonna like embrace afterwards, and like like really it just it it what does the other person, how do they feel about this, and then how can I assist them and you know, vice versa, putting each other's needs first and trusting my partner's gonna do the same, because the biggest thing for me was I need to trust that she has my best interest at heart and vice versa.
- 7:41Austin Young: It's really hard to be vulnerable with someone that I feel like is my enemy.
- 7:46Austin Young: But knowing that she has my best interest at heart and vice versa, we we can now communicate to one another with that in mind, prioritizing each other's needs.
- 7:55Austin Young: So the communication was just kind of sometimes it's not middle ground, but most time it is.
- 8:00Austin Young: Middle ground's kind of a weird thing too, because it's like, what is specifically middle ground?
- 8:04Austin Young: But uh compromise, uh mercy and forgiveness, because not all the time are you gonna be able to just communicate and like we have fixed the problem, you know.
- 8:13Austin Young: So but um that's that's the biggest thing for us is just learning how to communicate and then um there's no winners, or sorry, there's there's if there's a winner, there's a loser.
- 8:22Austin Young: And um there needs to not be that type of competition.
- 8:26Austin Young: Right.
- 8:27Austin Young: There needs to be two winners and it needs to be us.
- 8:29Goldie Young: So my example of that is just like, you know, like if one of us has to win, we're just shooting each other in the foot at this point and seeing that's just not helping any of us because you know, what does the Bible say?
- 8:43Goldie Young: Two shall become one.
- 8:44Goldie Young: Okay.
- 8:45Goldie Young: I shot you, you're part of me, and now we're both hurt.
- 8:48Michelle Moore: You know, it's just like that's a good way to look at it.
- 8:50Goldie Young: Uh this is not working, you know.
- 8:53Goldie Young: Um that was doing the work is what you know, most people they just think that they're just gonna have this epiphany and it's gonna be magical, like some cartoon movie that has a happy ending and everything's happy from that.
- 9:09Goldie Young: And you know, I feel like that's nowadays perception of marriage is just like do what makes you happy.
- 9:16Goldie Young: Oh, you're not happy with that person, just quit them and try do tr get somebody else.
- 9:20Goldie Young: Yeah, somebody else is gonna be better.
- 9:22Goldie Young: And I'm like or they might be worse.
- 9:26Goldie Young: Yeah, yeah, you know, like fix what you got and it might be better than anything you could ever find.
- 9:32Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 9:33Austin Young: Um chipping away at the chipping away at the rock till.
- 9:36Michelle Moore: Well, and you guys are literally, you put God first.
- 9:38Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 9:39Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 9:39Michelle Moore: Then it trickles down to each one of you separately, and you're meeting in the middle and doing that communication.
- 9:44Michelle Moore: And I think that's the key is you can, I mean, like as Dan is I Dan and I walked our nasty path, I mean, we put the Lord first.
- 9:54Michelle Moore: That's when, and it's hard work.
- 9:56Michelle Moore: It is not easy because we did not communicate.
- 9:59Michelle Moore: And now we communicate and it's like, do we even fight?
- 10:03Michelle Moore: Because we communicate so well.
- 10:05Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 10:05Michelle Moore: And it's like, oh, okay, we can talk, we can talk through this, you know, and you there's communication not just for your marriage, but for intimacy.
- 10:13Michelle Moore: There's for your children, how you raise them.
- 10:17Michelle Moore: I mean, communication goes all the way across to like your family, your family, you know, and as long as you guys can come together and be on the same page.
- 10:25Michelle Moore: And I love that that the Lord came into the marriage.
- 10:29Michelle Moore: He called you back home, he called you back home.
- 10:32Michelle Moore: You fought for your marriage, and he met you that day in that Christmas program, and things started changing, and then you started putting in the hard work.
- 10:41Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 10:42Michelle Moore: Because your love for each other meant so much.
- 10:45Michelle Moore: And I'm sitting here just watching both of you guys, and you know, it just you can tell you guys love each other, and that you're willing to put in that hard work.
- 10:54Michelle Moore: And I'm gonna tell you, you're gonna put in that hard work for the rest of your life.
- 10:58Michelle Moore: Yeah, because seasons change, life changes, and as you are, it is Dan and I.
- 11:04Michelle Moore: We are, you know, empty nesters.
- 11:06Michelle Moore: And I wouldn't change it for a thing.
- 11:08Michelle Moore: If you would have asked me that 20 years ago, absolutely not.
- 11:12Michelle Moore: I hated him, I couldn't stand him.
- 11:14Michelle Moore: I I could not stand him, didn't even want to be with him.
- 11:18Michelle Moore: But he fought for our marriage.
- 11:20Michelle Moore: And he's the one that was down on his knees, and then it brought me back in.
- 11:25Michelle Moore: But when we put the Lord first, we put the what three, four years and then we renewed our marriage because we were married at the time, and we renewed our vows.
- 11:36Michelle Moore: And I can remember when we renewed our vows, it did something different.
- 11:40Michelle Moore: Like just the inside.
- 11:42Michelle Moore: So did you guys get married eventually after you started serving the Lord?
- 11:47Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 11:48Austin Young: So it was like right after actually.
- 11:49Austin Young: We uh I got saved.
- 11:51Goldie Young: In December, like Christmas party time, so around like the end of the last week of December.
- 11:58Austin Young: And then the baptism and then the baptism event in January is uh when I got baptized.
- 12:03Austin Young: I didn't I wasn't gonna do it.
- 12:04Austin Young: But uh a good friend of mine, uh Mr.
- 12:07Austin Young: Mosher, was like, hey, they had the baptism event.
- 12:10Austin Young: I was like, I don't know enough about it yet, I'm not gonna do it.
- 12:12Austin Young: And Steve walked by and said, Did you sign up for the baptism event?
- 12:15Austin Young: I said, No.
- 12:16Austin Young: He goes, Okay, I'm gonna sign you up.
- 12:17Austin Young: You need to go.
- 12:17Austin Young: I was like, uh, okay.
- 12:19Austin Young: I was like, okay.
- 12:21Austin Young: I know.
- 12:21Austin Young: So I went ahead and got baptized, and then right after, like, not even like four days later, we got married.
- 12:27Michelle Moore: That's awesome.
- 12:28Austin Young: And then we we put away this we put away this whole wedding thing.
- 12:32Austin Young: It's like, who cares?
- 12:33Austin Young: I just get right with the Lord.
- 12:34Austin Young: Let's let's make this house, let's make this house holy.
- 12:37Austin Young: Um we just went to the Lord's office and got married.
- 12:40Goldie Young: And that was it.
- 12:41Goldie Young: So we didn't tell anybody, we didn't tell our family, we didn't I mean, it was just like at the time, I remember like the day before.
- 12:50Goldie Young: I'm like, okay, we agreed that we were and I'm in the middle of school, so I like have to take off for school, and everybody's like, weren't you guys like just like not doing so great?
- 12:59Goldie Young: Like not even a month ago.
- 13:00Goldie Young: I'm like, yeah, but Jesus came and like everybody knew my story at school.
- 13:04Goldie Young: And there's a lot of people there.
- 13:05Goldie Young: Like I went to the web one.
- 13:07Goldie Young: And um, so like people are like, gosh, she's crazy, like she's crazy.
- 13:14Goldie Young: It's great, great.
- 13:15Goldie Young: Like I would get there, I would, I don't know how, but in the midst of this, like God had me going to school early before anybody got there when they barely opened and praying over everybody's locker and spots before um everybody got there.
- 13:29Goldie Young: And I'm like, I look back now and I'm like, oh my gosh, like I had to be there like 7:30 in the morning.
- 13:34Goldie Young: What time did I get up and get myself ready and get the kids ready and like do this?
- 13:40Goldie Young: You know, I'm like, I look back now and I'm like, God had his hand all over me.
- 13:45Goldie Young: I remember in the middle of uh of everything going on, uh, God just would kept reminding me, like, you're in my hand.
- 13:53Goldie Young: I've got you.
- 13:53Goldie Young: It doesn't matter what happens, I'm holding you, and you have to learn to trust me.
- 13:57Goldie Young: Because I was angry and I was just so much resentment towards him at the time.
- 14:04Goldie Young: Cause I'm like, God, like, I know you want me to just fight for my marriage, but I'm so angry, and I'm like, he's really hurting me.
- 14:09Goldie Young: And he's just like, he's not like, I don't know what he's doing.
- 14:12Goldie Young: What is he doing?
- 14:13Goldie Young: You know?
- 14:14Goldie Young: And so I remember God spoke to me and he's like, my aunt had been like, I'm gonna pay your gas, like, come up and see me, we're gonna pray for you at church.
- 14:23Goldie Young: And like, I didn't really have a home church yet, and so I drove our truck, new truck, all the way up to Kansas City.
- 14:32Goldie Young: This is a new truck.
- 14:33Goldie Young: So I drive my me and the two kids up there.
- 14:35Goldie Young: Well, they get sick.
- 14:37Goldie Young: Okay, both of them get sick.
- 14:39Goldie Young: We end up going to church that morning, and then after church, going to uh KU Medical, and they were there all day, and then I had a drive home before school started with two sick kids by myself from Kansas City, and in the middle of the highway, the truck breaks down.
- 15:00Goldie Young: I'm like, this is a new truck, and I have no money, like I just came with the gas money that my aunt gave me.
- 15:09Goldie Young: Like, I have no money, and I'm like trying to figure it out by myself, and I'm all angry, and I'm like, God, why would you tell me to come up here?
- 15:17Goldie Young: Why would you tell me to do this?
- 15:18Goldie Young: And I'm like questioning everything.
- 15:20Goldie Young: And God said, I got you.
- 15:23Goldie Young: So I call a police officer because I'm like, I don't have no money.
- 15:28Goldie Young: And so he comes, the kids are sleeping the whole time.
- 15:31Goldie Young: Like, what are the odds that they're both just out?
- 15:34Goldie Young: They don't even know the trucks broke down, they don't know what's going on, they don't know that I am just a train wreck.
- 15:40Goldie Young: And police officer comes and he's like, Yeah, you're gonna have to get it towed, and blah, blah, blah, and I can't figure it out.
- 15:46Goldie Young: I'm sorry.
- 15:47Goldie Young: And I'm like, I can't call a tow man, I have no money.
- 15:50Goldie Young: And he's like, Well, I'm just gonna stay here for a little while until you know, like, maybe, you know, and luckily you're on the side of the road, there's a tow place like a mile up, and blah, blah, blah.
- 16:00Goldie Young: And I'm like, I have no money.
- 16:02Goldie Young: And I'm like, I don't want to tell the police officer this.
- 16:04Goldie Young: And I'm like, Are you sure?
- 16:06Goldie Young: Like, you know, and you know what?
- 16:09Goldie Young: He's like, Well, is there somebody you can call?
- 16:12Goldie Young: Everybody I called was no, no, no.
- 16:14Goldie Young: I can't help you, I can't help you, I can't help you, I can't help you.
- 16:17Goldie Young: I'm sorry.
- 16:18Goldie Young: I had no choice but to call him and tell him what was going on.
- 16:24Goldie Young: And at the time, he's like, Well, what do you want me to do?
- 16:28Austin Young: I'm in like this this was like pre-saved, by the way.
- 16:31Goldie Young: She had Yeah, this is pre-saved.
- 16:33Goldie Young: And he's like, Well, what do you want me to do?
- 16:36Goldie Young: And I'm like, I have no money.
- 16:39Goldie Young: Please just help me and your children.
- 16:42Goldie Young: And like, at this point, I'm having to bite all my pride in asking him for help.
- 16:47Goldie Young: I'm like, oh, God has a sense of humor.
- 16:50Goldie Young: And what do you know?
- 16:52Goldie Young: So he gets mad, we hang up on each other, that doesn't end great, and I'm like, I'm stuck with two sick kids in the middle, and I have nobody to call.
- 17:01Goldie Young: And so this is just a reminder of how much God he just he keeps his promises through all of it.
- 17:09Goldie Young: And uh so I call the tow truck in faith.
- 17:13Goldie Young: And the tow truck comes and he can't figure out what it is either.
- 17:18Goldie Young: And he says, I'm gonna have to tow you up there, and I say, sir, I don't know how to tell you this.
- 17:23Goldie Young: I'm sorry that I called you, but I have no money to pay you.
- 17:26Goldie Young: So don't tell me because I can't pay you.
- 17:29Goldie Young: He goes, I'm just gonna tow you up there.
- 17:31Goldie Young: I said, I can't pay for it to get fixed either.
- 17:33Goldie Young: I'm just being plum honest.
- 17:35Goldie Young: And he's like, Don't worry about it.
- 17:37Goldie Young: And I'm like, what?
- 17:39Goldie Young: And so he tows me up to this place, and this person starts working on their and I tell I go up and tell the person while my kids are sleeping.
- 17:49Goldie Young: I'm like, you know, maybe you shouldn't touch a truck because I I can't pay you anything.
- 17:54Goldie Young: And the guy's like, oh, that guy over there told me he was gonna pay it.
- 17:58Goldie Young: And I was like, that guy?
- 18:00Goldie Young: What guy?
- 18:01Goldie Young: What are you talking about?
- 18:02Goldie Young: He's like, that guy told me he was gonna pay for it.
- 18:05Goldie Young: And I was like, he's like, I don't know.
- 18:07Goldie Young: He left a card right there.
- 18:09Goldie Young: He said he was gonna pay for it.
- 18:10Goldie Young: I'm like in shock.
- 18:13Goldie Young: The guy fixes it, he goes, Oh, your truck's fixed, okay, you're ready to go.
- 18:16Goldie Young: And I'm like, Well, I gotta pay the tow.
- 18:20Goldie Young: Like, this is I don't understand what's happening.
- 18:22Goldie Young: So the toe guy comes up to me and he goes, you know, before you called me, I was already on my way.
- 18:30Goldie Young: And I said, You were on your way.
- 18:32Goldie Young: He says, Yeah.
- 18:33Goldie Young: And I said, Where?
- 18:35Goldie Young: He goes, long time ago, a car ran over me and he said, People gave me for dead, and God brought me back to life, and he told me to start driving on this road that somebody was gonna need me, and then you called.
- 18:49Goldie Young: And God told me that you were a God-loving woman, and that I was to needed to do whatever it was to get your truck fixed and to get you back on the road.
- 19:01Goldie Young: He goes, I don't know why.
- 19:03Goldie Young: He goes, but I was already on my way, and God had already told me, and I already knew.
- 19:08Goldie Young: And I was like, How does he know I worship God?
- 19:12Goldie Young: Like, what?
- 19:13Goldie Young: Like, I don't have like a t-shirt with God on it, like I don't have any like I said nothing about God.
- 19:18Goldie Young: What how does he know?
- 19:20Goldie Young: He doesn't know me.
- 19:21Goldie Young: And God's like, I told you, you're in my hand.
- 19:24Goldie Young: I'm back on the highway.
- 19:27Goldie Young: He calls me back and he's like mad.
- 19:29Goldie Young: I guess my grandpa said that hey, this, this, this, and blah, blah, blah.
- 19:33Goldie Young: And he's not happy, but I don't know how I'm gonna pay for the truck to get fixed, and I'm like, don't worry about it.
- 19:38Goldie Young: And he's like, Stop being like that.
- 19:40Goldie Young: I'm like, nope, we're already back on the road.
- 19:41Goldie Young: He's like, You figured it out, and I was like, nope, but God did.
- 19:44Goldie Young: And we were split up at the time.
- 19:48Goldie Young: And it's just like instances like that happened before he gave his life back to God.
- 19:54Goldie Young: So by time, he gives his life to God in the midst of this going on.
- 19:59Goldie Young: My own family, his own family are being like, you should just quit him.
- 20:04Goldie Young: Like, you need to restart your life.
- 20:06Goldie Young: You're still young, you can remarry, you can move on, you can do this, you know.
- 20:10Goldie Young: And I they're calling me crazy because I'm like, you know, dead looking people in the face.
- 20:17Goldie Young: No, God's gonna restore my marriage.
- 20:18Goldie Young: He already told me.
- 20:19Goldie Young: And they're like, How can you have that faith?
- 20:21Goldie Young: I'm like, he has showed me in every single way possible that he is going to restore our marriage and make it better than before.
- 20:28Goldie Young: And I said, just to clarify that, I told nobody of this before.
- 20:33Goldie Young: And my uncle called me, like, not even two or three days after we split up, and God had spoken that to my heart, and I was like, that's a crazy scene, you know, like I'm not gonna believe that.
- 20:44Goldie Young: And I answered the phone that morning, and my uncle's like, I don't know what prompted this, but God told me that he was gonna do this and this, and that this and this was gonna happen, and you guys were gonna come together and he was gonna make everything better than before.
- 20:56Goldie Young: And I was like, I told nobody that and God confirmed that through somebody that didn't even live around me that I don't even communicate with all the time.
- 21:05Goldie Young: And so I'm like, when God said he's gonna do something, I have no choice but to believe him because he he means what he says and he says what he means, and God showed me that time and time over again.
- 21:19Goldie Young: And so uh some of the challenges that we faced, you know, that year, I was in school, he had no job, and that was very hard on him.
- 21:28Goldie Young: Um it was very hard on him, very hard on us.
- 21:31Goldie Young: Um, I I would say at the time it wasn't for me because God had gave me some sort of stupid peace.
- 21:36Goldie Young: Like when they say God gives you stupid peace, I had no money to my name.
- 21:40Goldie Young: But I just rolled like I had $500 in the bank all the time.
- 21:42Goldie Young: Like I it was just okay.
- 21:44Goldie Young: There was there was nothing gonna ruin my day.
- 21:47Goldie Young: Like it I just rolled with it financially.
- 21:49Goldie Young: Like I just had peace about it.
- 21:51Goldie Young: And I remember him going up to the window and going up to the window and going up to the window.
- 21:55Goldie Young: I'm like, what are you doing?
- 21:57Goldie Young: And he's like, I don't want to.
- 21:59Goldie Young: Tell you this, but you know, I I don't have a job and I don't have no money and I don't know what we're gonna do.
- 22:05Goldie Young: And we're way over four months behind on both car payments.
- 22:09Goldie Young: And it was six months?
- 22:11Goldie Young: It was six months.
- 22:13Goldie Young: And I'm like, it's gonna be fine.
- 22:17Goldie Young: God's gonna take care of us.
- 22:18Goldie Young: Whatever happens, happens.
- 22:19Goldie Young: It's in his hands.
- 22:20Goldie Young: I've I was like, he's proved himself to me time and time again.
- 22:24Goldie Young: And he's like, all like, you just don't understand.
- 22:28Goldie Young: Our cars are going to get towed away.
- 22:30Goldie Young: Can I tell you that our cars never got towed away?
- 22:34Daniel Moore: That's awesome.
- 22:35Goldie Young: Months went by and our cars never got towed away.
- 22:38Goldie Young: There is no reason that our cars should not get towed away.
- 22:42Goldie Young: There is no reason it made no sense.
- 22:46Goldie Young: I remember that year um he had only made the whole year $17,000.
- 22:50Goldie Young: We did without nothing.
- 22:52Goldie Young: Like we even somehow managed to go out to eat every Sunday after church.
- 22:59Goldie Young: I have no clue how, but we did without nothing.
- 23:02Goldie Young: Our kids knew nothing about that we were doing without anything.
- 23:07Goldie Young: Like it was just it was insane.
- 23:10Goldie Young: Like God had his hand on us um in a way that I knew deep down, I'm like, this this is this is where we're supposed to be.
- 23:20Goldie Young: This is what we're supposed to do.
- 23:22Goldie Young: And um I had knew like in a future, even that you know, God was going to uh he was just gonna make things right.
- 23:31Goldie Young: And uh whatever that looked like, I was all in for it.
- 23:35Goldie Young: And of course we had lots of challenges.
- 23:38Goldie Young: Um at the time we're still like a little bit argumentative because he grew up in an environment where he knows nothing about God.
- 23:44Goldie Young: I grew up in an environment that was totally legalistic, and to this day, you know, like I fight legalistic traits in me, and then I'm like, oh, what does the Bible say about this?
- 23:53Goldie Young: I better go back, you know?
- 23:54Goldie Young: Yeah, and like he is very the other way, you know, like he had no rules growing up, pretty much.
- 24:00Goldie Young: It was just fim for yourself kind of environment, do whatever you want.
- 24:04Goldie Young: And so that was uh some of our biggest challenges, um, coming back together and learning what does the word say and what do we have to undo and what do we have to redo?
- 24:14Goldie Young: And uh, even to this day, you know, we're not like perfect or whatever, but we don't give up on uh therapy even now.
- 24:21Goldie Young: Like uh people are like, Why are you going to therapy?
- 24:23Goldie Young: Is everything okay?
- 24:24Goldie Young: I'm like, I think it's fine.
- 24:25Goldie Young: They're like, Then why are you going to therapy?
- 24:27Goldie Young: I'm like, Because you can never invest enough into your marriage.
- 24:33Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 24:34Goldie Young: Um and you know, like it's busy, especially, you know, like we have three kids now and they're all different ages, and so we're all over the place all the time, and sometimes we just don't get time to talk.
- 24:45Goldie Young: And I definitely feel like, you know, e whether if it's once a week or once every two weeks, that's our time that we're gonna sit down and talk and focus on things that are going on that we needed to talk about and uh have somebody some insight that's not maybe that's not family, that's not biased, that's not you know, um godly counseling, obviously, because we've had ungodly counselors and that's been terribly horrible.
- 25:11Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 25:12Daniel Moore: So um well you made a key point earlier that I think kind of resonates through this whole portion that you've been speaking here is of just about the part where you have to put work into your marriage.
- 25:23Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 25:23Daniel Moore: And I think that, you know, one thing that you had said earlier, um, we'd actually just came up here recently in some episodes we did as well.
- 25:32Daniel Moore: Uh it's the fact that, you know, sometimes people they just give up on their spouses and their marriages and they decide they're just gonna move on.
- 25:41Daniel Moore: But yet when they're cleared of all of that and all the smoke clears and everything's back to, you know, where they were before you know, pr prior to being married the first time or whatever, they get back into this mode where they start pursuing somebody again and it's all that hard work again.
- 25:55Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 25:55Daniel Moore: Trying to catch that person and do whatever it takes to get them and you know, treat them like a queen or a king or whatever.
- 26:01Daniel Moore: And it's like, you know, the the whole point of of what you said earlier really resonates with that is the fact, well, if you'd have worked that hard on your first relationship and made it work between the two of you, you wouldn't be where you're where you're at now.
- 26:14Austin Young: Yeah.
- 26:15Daniel Moore: You know, w was like you said, who's to promise or who's to say that the second one around's gonna be any better than the first one?
- 26:21Daniel Moore: You know, it's like it takes work no matter what relationship you're in.
- 26:25Daniel Moore: And that comes down to us individually and just how much work are we willing to put into it.
- 26:30Austin Young: Yeah.
- 26:30Daniel Moore: You know, how hard of uh of a job are we going to to pursue to try to make sure that that relationship works?
- 26:37Daniel Moore: And I think, you know, Michelle and I, we're not perfect either.
- 26:41Daniel Moore: You know, I mean, we've been through a lot, we've been married a really long time.
- 26:45Daniel Moore: Uh, but we, you know, we still have our our times that we uh conflict on different things or whatever, but at least at this point in our life we know how to resolve those very quickly.
- 26:54Austin Young: Yeah.
- 26:55Daniel Moore: And so um I think that's the whole key to it.
- 26:57Daniel Moore: And I'm glad to see, you know, even as how long have you guys been married now?
- 27:02Goldie Young: Almost eight uh well, not married.
- 27:03Goldie Young: We've been together almost eight years and we've been married almost five.
- 27:07Goldie Young: So four and something.
- 27:08Daniel Moore: So honestly, uh for you guys to already have this communication thing and some of the things that you've been talking about, you already have a good awareness of what that does within a marriage.
- 27:20Daniel Moore: That's kind of unheard of today for couples, you know, that are have not been married any longer than you guys have, and even longer.
- 27:28Daniel Moore: I mean, you know, we do marriage mentoring, and some of the marriages that we've mentored have been married for quite some time, and that's a big issue, communication.
- 27:38Daniel Moore: And, you know, it's just it's one of those things that I don't think we realize sometimes because we are we grow up being programmed a certain way to talk to people a certain way, carry on conversations a certain way, and we carry that into our marriages, and we don't think there's anything wrong with it.
- 27:53Daniel Moore: Yeah, and but yet when we sit there in conflict with each other, it's kind of hard to get down to the bottom of the issue.
- 27:58Daniel Moore: It's like it's because of the way you're communicating with each other that's causing this stuff, you know.
- 28:04Daniel Moore: And but nobody wants to take the blame for it, you know, they just want to blame it on the other person and say it's your fault.
- 28:10Daniel Moore: Um, but that's you know, kudos to you guys for for recognizing that.
- 28:15Daniel Moore: And uh, like you said, you know, you can't put too much work into your relationship.
- 28:21Daniel Moore: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:21Daniel Moore: I mean, that's Michelle and I, we're gonna be married 25 years next year, and we still work hard all the time to make sure that our marriage stays where it needs to be because we know the importance of it.
- 28:32Michelle Moore: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:33Michelle Moore: Well, we know where the enemy likes to, you know, we see it now.
- 28:37Michelle Moore: I mean, back then we didn't, you know, and then when we start working through and putting the Lord first, you actually will then know you're fighting the enemy.
- 28:45Michelle Moore: Yeah, not fighting your spouse, you're fighting the enemy.
- 28:48Michelle Moore: And you know, and so we we've learned that.
- 28:51Austin Young: Yeah.
- 28:52Austin Young: Yeah.
- 28:52Austin Young: There's a there's a concept that like really helped us, and it's it's you know, I took it from a parable of Jesus, and it's uh it's about being a hypocrite, right?
- 29:00Austin Young: It's you know, don't point out the the splinter in someone else's when you have a log on your own.
- 29:04Austin Young: Yeah.
- 29:05Austin Young: And um uh it's it's helped me a lot, and I think Gordon and I have got it down pretty pat.
- 29:11Austin Young: I I wouldn't say like we're perfect, but we we have we have a good routine.
- 29:14Austin Young: Um no matter who or what started the situation, it's self-reflection versus deflection.
- 29:21Austin Young: So what could I have done better?
- 29:25Austin Young: You may have said something really nasty to me, but what what could I have done better in this situation, you know?
- 29:31Austin Young: And that's helped us a lot because it stopped it stopped doing this and I started doing this.
- 29:34Austin Young: Back at yourself, like what did what did I do?
- 29:38Austin Young: Maybe there's something I didn't do right.
- 29:40Austin Young: Uh she asked me to take out the trash twenty times and I I said later, later, later, and tell me missed the trash day.
- 29:46Daniel Moore: Right.
- 29:46Austin Young: I forgot about it, now she's mad at me, you know.
- 29:48Austin Young: It's like, what why are you mad at me?
- 29:50Austin Young: I didn't do anything wrong.
- 29:51Austin Young: Yeah.
- 29:51Austin Young: You know, just for a weird example, but you know, it's like, what could I have done better to avoid this or you know, not stepping her toes next time.
- 29:58Austin Young: That's something that's helped us out a lot.
- 30:00Austin Young: Um because deflection is is a really hard thing uh to overcome uh when you're trying to have a good communication with your spouse, because deflecting is the easiest thing to do.
- 30:10Austin Young: Yeah.
- 30:10Austin Young: Um it's really hard to take responsibility, but I think creating a good loving environment that like you can be vulnerable, you can let me know you messed up, and I'm not gonna hold it over your head.
- 30:20Austin Young: You know, we're gonna work through it together.
- 30:21Austin Young: Yeah.
- 30:22Austin Young: It's not a big deal.
- 30:23Austin Young: So that's helped us out a ton.
- 30:25Daniel Moore: Yeah, and we know that you know, when it comes to conflicts, it takes two.
- 30:31Daniel Moore: And very seldom is one person perfect in that scenario.
- 30:35Austin Young: Yeah.
- 30:36Daniel Moore: I do know that there are people that just instigate.
- 30:38Daniel Moore: I totally get it.
- 30:39Daniel Moore: I understand that you have those people that just want to dig and dig and dig.
- 30:42Daniel Moore: Um, but more often than not, you know, it's it it is uh usually it's two a two-sided story.
- 30:50Daniel Moore: And you're you're very accurate on that.
- 30:53Daniel Moore: We we both as couples, when we have those times and those issues, we both have to step back and fix our where are we at when in this whole equation and get ourselves fixed, come back together, and then fix each other's together, you know, work together on that.
- 31:08Daniel Moore: And that's a very good model um when it comes to to deflecting those issues.
- 31:13Michelle Moore: I'm not sure that I've ever heard that be used.
- 31:16Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 31:16Michelle Moore: I think that's the first time I've ever without without being trained.
- 31:19Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 31:20Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 31:20Michelle Moore: Yeah.
- 31:20Michelle Moore: I think that's I mean, that's really honestly that's awesome that you guys have done that and you're implemented and to see where it goes with it.
- 31:27Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 31:28Michelle Moore: That's the first time I've ever heard that mentioned.
- 31:30Daniel Moore: Yeah, it's very rare unless somebody goes through counseling or whatever, then they train, they teach you that.
- 31:35Daniel Moore: But um, it's it's rare that people, you know, figure that out without that.
- 31:40Daniel Moore: At this point in your life, I know you guys are uh at a point where you try to help other couples and that kind of thing.
- 32:03Daniel Moore: So as we wrap up this uh interview with you guys, just kind of share a little bit with us about where you where you all are at now at this point in your marriage, what you're trying to what you feel like God's laid on your hearts as a couple um to do to help others and that kind of thing.
- 32:18Austin Young: I think a couple of different things for me um personally, it's a lot of uh younger troubled boys.
- 32:26Austin Young: I I I do I try to be involved a lot with that, and I think um hitting that generation would probably help, especially like um, you know, growing young boys up to be good men versus young boys to be older boys.
- 32:40Austin Young: Yeah.
- 32:40Austin Young: Um and then together we have a heart for you know younger married couples and we we try our best to kind of help there, which um that's kind of our heart now.
- 32:51Austin Young: That's where our life group is at church, and we we invite younger couples.
- 32:54Austin Young: Um no discrimination by any means, but we we do look for the ones that are like they might be going through something.
- 33:00Austin Young: Let's let's bring them in, you know.
- 33:02Austin Young: So it's not like a big hangout party.
- 33:04Austin Young: It's it's heavy stuff.
- 33:05Austin Young: We go through and we dive deep and we try to, you know, put ourselves in that situation.
- 33:12Austin Young: Like, could we have avoided a ton of heartache if someone else would have took the time like we're trying to do to help us right now?
- 33:17Austin Young: Good point.
- 33:18Austin Young: Yeah.
- 33:18Austin Young: It's not like that's awesome.
- 33:20Austin Young: It's not like we're smart, it's not like you know, we're you know, these uh any kind of savior.
- 33:25Austin Young: It's it's God working through us through the situation and through our testimony to relate to people.
- 33:31Austin Young: Yeah.
- 33:31Austin Young: Um it's like I get it all the time, we get it all the time.
- 33:34Austin Young: It's like you don't know what we've been through.
- 33:36Austin Young: It's like, do you guys want to swap stories?
- 33:37Austin Young: Yeah you guys will run out before we do, I guarantee it.
- 33:40Austin Young: So we've been through a lot.
- 33:42Austin Young: And uh through that it's helped us you know reach couples um for a very short amount of time, and it's really rewarding to see, and again, it's not if you're gonna boast about anything, boast unto the Lord, right?
- 33:53Austin Young: Um it's really rewarding to see that we um mentor shortly, mentored a couple a couple um that was struggling just kind of all aspects of life.
- 34:02Austin Young: And they ended up moving to Springfield and continuing going to church down there, and we kept in contact with them quite a bit.
- 34:09Austin Young: Um Well, they weren't even married, and they were together, they had children and all that stuff, and um it was gonna we we reconnected like you know, we lost contact, but we reconnected a year later and they're like, We gotta catch you up.
- 34:22Austin Young: They were together for I don't know how long, probably similar to us, not married, and they were like, We need to get married to get right with God because it they gave their life to the Lord.
- 34:31Austin Young: And uh we were together, they were absent for like six months, already together, already had kids until they got married, because they said, We're gonna do this and we're gonna do it right.
- 34:40Austin Young: And now they're like heavily involved in church.
- 34:43Austin Young: They also like to help others and just kind of mentor kind of through their experience and stuff.
- 34:47Austin Young: So that stuff's like really rewarding to see because it's like um the Lord will use uh it has a purpose for us, and all the heartache we went through serves a purpose that's bigger than our own.
- 34:57Austin Young: And that's one of the bigger things that I think in our life is you know what we like to do.
- 35:02Goldie Young: So yeah.
- 35:04Goldie Young: And it we just I know it I know it seems bad, but um we found that in our life group, like there's other couples and stuff, and they're like, I don't know if this is for me, you know, because like we go deep and I'm like very honest.
- 35:18Goldie Young: Uh and some people, you know, like I I tell them I'm like you're fortunate enough to have a very boring testimony in an unrude way.
- 35:26Goldie Young: Right.
- 35:26Goldie Young: Um, and so like we we are just like, we'll get in the mud with you.
- 35:31Goldie Young: We'll get in the mud with you, and and if you call me at 3 a.m., I'm gonna answer because that is so important to me because I know where I was at years ago at 3 a.m.
- 35:43Goldie Young: You know, I know where he was at at 3 a.m.
- 35:46Goldie Young: years ago, you know.
- 35:47Goldie Young: Like I know um that things happen and you you don't know how to deal with it.
- 35:54Goldie Young: And if you wasn't raised in a godly environment, and I'm so lucky to see my grandma and my mother be the biggest prayer warriors, like they would just be up all night praying and stomping and rebuking the devil, and you know, that that was that, you know.
- 36:10Goldie Young: We're going on a 40-day fast.
- 36:11Goldie Young: Like that's that's life right now.
- 36:13Goldie Young: We're in the spiritual realm and we're fighting for everything we got.
- 36:16Goldie Young: And that was definitely where I was at at this time in my life.
- 36:19Goldie Young: And um I've seen couples, and it breaks my heart, it's just uh they're not willing.
- 36:26Goldie Young: And that's the first thing I ask, and like people, we have people come up to us all the time at church, they're like, Oh, we just need your help, blah, blah, blah.
- 36:33Goldie Young: And I'll ask them, Are you willing?
- 36:35Goldie Young: Are you both willing?
- 36:36Goldie Young: And they're like, Well, what does that mean?
- 36:38Austin Young: Yeah, like, are you willing to give up?
- 36:40Goldie Young: Are you willing to give up?
- 36:41Goldie Young: And they're like, What?
- 36:42Austin Young: Are you willing to give up your lifestyle to make a difference?
- 36:44Goldie Young: Yeah, are you willing to give up your selfishness, your pride?
- 36:48Goldie Young: Yeah, you know, all these things.
- 36:50Goldie Young: I'm like, until you're willing, don't call me.
- 36:53Austin Young: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:54Goldie Young: And you're right.
- 36:55Michelle Moore: Because to be honest, you're right.
- 36:57Michelle Moore: Because you can't change somebody that's not gonna be willing to change or be willing to come under the submission of the Lord.
- 37:04Michelle Moore: Yes.
- 37:05Michelle Moore: That's really what it is.
- 37:06Austin Young: Yeah.
- 37:07Austin Young: My one of my biggest things is like always, I feel like it's always life or death when people come to us with with problems.
- 37:14Austin Young: It's like this is happening and something's gotta change now.
- 37:16Austin Young: I'm like, no, it doesn't.
- 37:17Austin Young: Nothing's gotta change right now.
- 37:18Austin Young: Unless it's, you know, obviously like a real extreme scenario, but like for the most part, I wanna, you know, go hang out with my friends and go to the gym all the time, and I wanna do this, and all she wants me to do is spend time with her.
- 37:30Austin Young: It's like, okay, we'll spend time with her.
- 37:31Austin Young: Well then why don't, you know, where's my life?
- 37:33Austin Young: I'm like, that is your life.
- 37:34Austin Young: Yeah, she is your life, that's your best friend.
- 37:37Austin Young: You don't have me time, you have we time to get it together.
- 37:39Austin Young: But it's like um they're they're in a rush for something to get changed like that, and it's like this stuff doesn't happen overnight, nothing happens overnight.
- 37:47Austin Young: You gotta and I always refer back to uh Jesus' teaching, but it's like you remember the time where uh all the disciples are like, Lord, help us.
- 37:56Austin Young: The storm's about to tilt the boat over, and he's sleeping.
- 37:58Austin Young: Yeah.
- 37:59Austin Young: In the middle of the storm, he's sleeping.
- 38:00Austin Young: He's not attacking the storm, he's riding the boat.
- 38:03Austin Young: And sometimes you just gotta survive and you just gotta ride the boat.
- 38:06Austin Young: Not not every time are you taking a hold of that that wheel and you're just trudging through waves and you're not taking on the storm.
- 38:12Austin Young: Sometimes you just gotta survive.
- 38:14Austin Young: Yeah, your your marriage is not over in a week, your your relationship's not over in a day.
- 38:18Austin Young: Like you have time to work through something.
- 38:22Austin Young: And it's are you willing, you know, that goes along with what she's saying.
- 38:24Austin Young: Are you willing?
- 38:25Austin Young: Yes, I'm willing.
- 38:26Austin Young: Okay.
- 38:26Austin Young: Are you also willing to give time?
- 38:28Austin Young: Because it's gonna take time.
- 38:29Austin Young: Yeah.
- 38:29Austin Young: Like, you know, I don't and it's gonna be hard.
- 38:32Austin Young: I don't ever see anyone lifting heavyweights in the gym smiling, you know.
- 38:35Austin Young: They're usually like grunting, and you know, they're they're making it work though.
- 38:38Austin Young: And it's just the same way.
- 38:39Austin Young: It's a it's a muscle you have to work out, and it takes time.
- 38:42Austin Young: So be patient and just work through it.
- 38:45Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 38:45Goldie Young: I always when I see like young kids and they're just like, Oh, I'm just looking for somebody, you know, I just want to, you know, and uh they want to be in this girlfriend phase.
- 38:54Goldie Young: And I I'm just so blunt because I'm like, I'm just so over this generation where there's everybody wants to be boyfriend and girlfriend for the rest of their life.
- 39:01Austin Young: Yeah.
- 39:02Goldie Young: And then they're sad, you know, when the girl moves on, she gets married, she leaves.
- 39:05Goldie Young: I'm like, nobody wants to be a side piece forever.
- 39:08Goldie Young: It's like you either bought it and you own it and you paid for it with sweat, tears, work, you know, or you're gonna lose it.
- 39:18Goldie Young: Like, you know, and that's I tell young people all the time, because they'll be like, Oh, I got on this relationship and it's just not working out, and I'm just gonna find somebody better, blah, blah, blah.
- 39:27Goldie Young: And I hear that from men kids all the time, you know.
- 39:29Goldie Young: He has different workers and stuff in here.
- 39:32Goldie Young: And I tell him, I will look him straight in the face.
- 39:34Goldie Young: I said, What comes easy goes easy.
- 39:36Goldie Young: Anything hard, anything good in life, it never came easy.
- 39:40Goldie Young: It came with sweat, blood, and tears and hard work.
- 39:44Goldie Young: And I said, No relationship will work without God.
- 39:47Goldie Young: And I know, like, they'll just look at me and he kind of just chuckles because he's like always, she's just always like, you know, like I'm just so blunt with him, and they're like, What just happened?
- 39:58Goldie Young: Why did she tell me that?
- 39:59Goldie Young: You know, I'm like, well, give him something to think about.
- 40:01Austin Young: She tricks him, she tricks him.
- 40:02Austin Young: So when we when they come to the house to pick up stuff for the job sites, she like, or like dropping them off and it's dinner time, come in and have dinner.
- 40:09Austin Young: And they're sitting there eating this delicious food that she makes, and then she just starts unloading on them.
- 40:13Austin Young: Like, are you guys married then?
- 40:14Austin Young: What are they gonna do?
- 40:15Austin Young: They haven't even finished their food yet.
- 40:16Austin Young: They're trap.
- 40:18Michelle Moore: Great ministry.
- 40:18Michelle Moore: They're trapped.
- 40:20Austin Young: So but yeah, and another thing, I think like one of the most important things too is that like uh uh if your spouse challenges you to be better, even though there comes with a lot of resistance, like I would embrace that because she has challenged me to be better in so many ways.
- 40:34Austin Young: Um like from and this isn't like this isn't like the the you know, the no all, this is that you know, but she's challenged me to um open my my own career, my own job, my own business.
- 40:47Austin Young: I've done that.
- 40:48Austin Young: She's challenged me to stop playing so many video games and focus on more of the you know, the Bibles and stuff like that, start doing something else with my life, investing in the kids, and she's challenged me to be better, and it's not like every time she said something, was it like, babe, I think, you know, the Lord spoke to me and you need to do this.
- 41:04Austin Young: It was like, stop doing that, get off of that, you know.
- 41:06Austin Young: So it's like we're we rub against one another, but iron sharpens iron.
- 41:10Austin Young: Yeah.
- 41:10Austin Young: And that's what we've done.
- 41:12Austin Young: And I would, I would, you know, it's something I I tell especially young boys that's get married, is like your wife is going to shape you into the man that you need to be.
- 41:21Austin Young: God gave you that person and she'll shape you into the man that you need to be.
- 41:24Austin Young: And uh I think a lot of our culture, especially for young boys, gets offended, when it's like, I'm a man, you can't tell me what to do.
- 41:31Austin Young: But it's like, you know, Jesus said, Pick up your cross and die daily, and part of dying is like laying down your pride.
- 41:35Austin Young: That's right.
- 41:36Austin Young: So when my wife says something, not all the time, but like when she says something, it's like i if it's in, you know, if it's in my best interest, it's it's probably best that I listen because she wants the best version of me, and then vice versa, you know.
- 41:48Austin Young: So I love that.
- 41:50Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 41:50Daniel Moore: Um, you know, you mentioned something earlier I want to add to is you know, these people that come up and they just want it fixed right now.
- 41:57Daniel Moore: They want they just want to, you know, I want to know what I need to do, and it's just gonna flip the switch.
- 42:02Daniel Moore: Magic clip.
- 42:03Daniel Moore: And you know, a lot of times they forget how many years did it take you to get to where you're at already?
- 42:07Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 42:08Daniel Moore: You nurtured this bad habit and these things that's been going on in your marriage, your relationship right now, you nurtured that for however many years now.
- 42:15Daniel Moore: You expect that to to transpose in one one day.
- 42:19Daniel Moore: It's like, you know, you didn't have any problem being a failure up to this point with what's been going on in your relationship already.
- 42:26Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 42:27Daniel Moore: You know, I mean, that was all fun and games while that's going on, but now you've reached this breaking point.
- 42:32Daniel Moore: It's work now to get it back.
- 42:33Daniel Moore: It's gonna take some time and it's gonna take some effort.
- 42:36Daniel Moore: And that's uh that's very good advice to people because this society we live in right now, we do I I like to call it the m the microwave popcorn society because you just want to push a button and pop the bag and we're done, you know.
- 42:49Daniel Moore: And it's like, no, it doesn't work that way.
- 42:52Daniel Moore: It's just like it's been for years and years, centuries and centuries.
- 42:55Daniel Moore: It's just it the work that you put into destroying something, it takes that much work or more actually, probably more work a lot of times, to fix that stuff and reverse the issues and put it back where it needs to be.
- 43:07Daniel Moore: And sometimes you don't get it put back the way it was because the other person has no desire, you know.
- 43:12Daniel Moore: You can put you can damage stuff to a point that it's beyond the point of return.
- 43:17Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 43:17Daniel Moore: So it's yeah, it's it's it's it can be a mess.
- 43:20Austin Young: Yeah, the hard the hardest thing, especially just feel like just speaking on the men's side.
- 43:23Austin Young: And I I always say the men's side because like I've come to find out in my twenty-eight years living that I thought I knew how ladies and women think I've been wrong.
- 43:33Austin Young: So I I will I will I will I will stick to what I know from the men's side that Goldie speak for the women's side of things.
- 43:40Austin Young: But uh for young men, it's uh taking responsibility is really hard these days.
- 43:46Austin Young: And it's like I mean to go along with what you said, how long have you been nurturing this bad habit, letting it go on purpose or accidental?
- 43:53Austin Young: Um you have to you have to take responsibility that you messed up.
- 43:57Austin Young: Like this is something that now you're gonna have to work for.
- 43:59Austin Young: Because um when they come into us and they're like, you know, this has been going on for this many years, and you know, they let this go on for however long, but now it's time to turn around and uh build back to it.
- 44:11Austin Young: But they don't want to take responsibility.
- 44:12Austin Young: They just want to sweep it under the rug and it's like, okay, well let's not rebuild this bridge, let's just go build a new one.
- 44:17Austin Young: And a lot of times you have to take responsibility.
- 44:19Austin Young: For ex like, for example, when the affair thing happened, I remember and this is the Lord giving it to me.
- 44:26Austin Young: Um I I just started reading Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
- 44:29Austin Young: New Testament, you know, just right off the rib is what I started reading when I got saved.
- 44:32Austin Young: And the biggest thing that stuck out to me was forgiveness.
- 44:35Austin Young: Um not even like I'll forgive you, and I'm like waiting for you to be like, oh, I forgive you too.
- 44:42Austin Young: Like, yes, it was just like I'm gonna ha I'm gonna extend this to you, I'm gonna let you know that I forgive you for whatever's going on, and that that's it.
- 44:50Austin Young: You you can feel how you want to feel, you can be mad at me, I'll take it, but just know that I forgive you.
- 44:54Austin Young: So like I would say this all the time, because we're still working through an affair, it was just recent, like affair, saved, married, it was just like within months.
- 45:02Austin Young: Like it's recent, you know, and there's there's fresh wounds.
- 45:05Austin Young: Um we something would flare up, we'd get an argument, we'd be trying to talk through something, and I would tell Gordon, like, I I I want you to know you have every right to be mad at me.
- 45:15Austin Young: This is taking responsibility.
- 45:17Austin Young: As as much as it tastes like vinegar coming off my tongue, because I don't want to admit that I'm wrong or anything wrong, you know, it's like you have every right to be mad at me.
- 45:25Austin Young: And I don't blame you for being mad at me.
- 45:27Austin Young: And I want you to know, like, anything you said to me, like I I forgive you.
- 45:30Austin Young: I'm not mad at you, and I don't hold it against you.
- 45:33Austin Young: You have every right to be mad at me.
- 45:35Austin Young: But I'm just gonna let you know I'm not leaving.
- 45:37Austin Young: I'm staying here, no matter how mad you get at me, and we will work through this.
- 45:40Austin Young: Yeah.
- 45:41Austin Young: That's the biggest thing, because I could have just done the opposite, not take responsibility.
- 45:45Austin Young: That bad habit I let nurture forever, you know, turn into something else, and I can just be like, Well, I'm better now.
- 45:50Austin Young: Like just get over it, stop talking about it.
- 45:52Austin Young: But we work through and through doing that, we were able to rebuild that bridge.
- 45:56Austin Young: Yeah.
- 45:57Austin Young: So taking responsibility, I think, and taking a head on sometimes is very helpful.
- 46:02Goldie Young: So I could be wrong, but speaking from a No, um definitely like in that time, um at some point I remember like before we got married and him just coming back to church, like the first few weeks was very rough because he didn't know nothing about God.
- 46:19Goldie Young: And I didn't know nothing about grace.
- 46:21Goldie Young: I'm like, boy God, what did you really know what he was doing right here?
- 46:26Goldie Young: Like, I do not know grace.
- 46:28Goldie Young: I couldn't tell if it slapped me in the face.
- 46:30Goldie Young: And God told me, He's like, This battle is a new battle.
- 46:34Goldie Young: It starts now.
- 46:35Goldie Young: When after he got saved, God spoke this to me, and I was like, What do you mean?
- 46:40Goldie Young: Like, what what do I do now?
- 46:42Goldie Young: And he's like, You need to shut your mouth, you need to be quiet and not speak until you I give you what you need to speak.
- 46:53Goldie Young: And that was so hard for me.
- 46:55Goldie Young: And I failed at some point, like several times, like, I mean, I I would I would do good, do good, do good, do good, and then I would just be like, have a day to myself where I just would let it all out, and I'm like, oh no, everything's roomed now because I failed this day, and I just I knew I shouldn't have said that, and why did I say that?
- 47:17Goldie Young: Like, and and then he would show me grace, and then I was like, What?
- 47:22Goldie Young: I'm so confused.
- 47:24Goldie Young: Like, he should be like, I don't want nothing to do with your God, like you do fine, and then you blow up, you know.
- 47:29Goldie Young: And so like it was just like, you know, I knew and I messed up, and then I was like, Oh no, how do I make this right now, you know?
- 47:38Goldie Young: And uh because you know, those emotions and everything, they're built up, you know.
- 47:43Goldie Young: You all this time, like we're separated.
- 47:46Goldie Young: I I can't even say these things to him, I can't ask things, I can't, you know, because all those things happen, you know, and you just the it's almost like you're in a fight with your brain, and I'll never forget um what God spoke to me one time.
- 48:02Goldie Young: He was like, I was like, oh, but he did this and he did this.
- 48:05Goldie Young: And at the time we're in counseling and church and everything, like marriage counseling, and we're in a class besides marriage counseling for our marriage, right?
- 48:15Goldie Young: And I'm just like, I'm cold this whole season.
- 48:17Goldie Young: I'm just like cold, and I'm like, he's obviously like crying, so sorry, and I'm just cold to him, I'm cold to everything, and oh my god, told me to be sad, and I'm just so upset, you know.
- 48:30Goldie Young: And I remember like God telling me, He goes, So you're forgiving him on the outside and on the inside you're shut off because you don't want to feel the hurt.
- 48:44Goldie Young: He goes, and you're telling me right now that my blood wasn't enough.
- 48:49Goldie Young: And that hit me so heavy, I'm like, no god no, you know, like your blood is enough.
- 48:56Goldie Young: I can forgive this, I can do this, I can.
- 48:59Goldie Young: And he's like, that's what you're telling me when you're doing this.
- 49:04Goldie Young: You may not say it with your mouth, but your actions are speaking, my blood wasn't enough.
- 49:10Goldie Young: My forgiveness that I sent my only son to die on the cross, you're telling me that was not a good enough, and that right there hit me, and I'm like, who am I?
- 49:21Goldie Young: I'm dirt.
- 49:22Goldie Young: Like, God could have totally like tossed me up and just tossed me to the wind, but no, he's setting with me and showing himself to me.
- 49:34Goldie Young: He doesn't need to prove himself to me.
- 49:36Goldie Young: I need to prove myself to him.
- 49:39Goldie Young: Who am I?
- 49:40Goldie Young: And that's where God humbled me, and he's like, I know you don't know grace, but you're gonna know grace after this.
- 49:47Goldie Young: Yeah, and that was very, very hard moments for me, but I just I there were so many lessons in it, and I'm so grateful now for the lessons.
- 49:58Goldie Young: Like you never stop, you know, like having certain things, but I know that as a woman, you know, like when an affair happens, you have all these questions in your mind, right?
- 50:08Goldie Young: You just want to know everything, and that's just the way we're built.
- 50:11Austin Young: Yeah.
- 50:12Goldie Young: And it's like, because you're trying to figure something out.
- 50:14Goldie Young: You're like, what did I do wrong?
- 50:16Goldie Young: What did this?
- 50:16Goldie Young: What did this what you know, all these things.
- 50:18Goldie Young: And finally, God was like, it doesn't matter, Goldie.
- 50:21Goldie Young: If you forgave it, let it go.
- 50:24Goldie Young: What and he reminded me of Lot's wife.
- 50:27Goldie Young: She kept looking back and she kept looking back and she kept looking back and she kept looking back, and what happened?
- 50:32Goldie Young: And I'm like, I have to let it go.
- 50:35Goldie Young: And that that's a hard thing.
- 50:36Goldie Young: That can be a hard thing for a lot of people facing that.
- 50:39Goldie Young: Um, is reminding yourself, because it's a constant forgiveness is a choice, and you have to wake up every day.
- 50:45Goldie Young: I I remember waking up every day, and I had sticky nails.
- 50:48Goldie Young: So people who come to visit me, they're probably like, This nut.
- 50:51Goldie Young: She's like a mad scientist.
- 50:53Goldie Young: But I had scripture over every single one of our pictures.
- 50:56Goldie Young: I never took them down.
- 50:57Goldie Young: I put a scripture on it and declared it.
- 50:59Goldie Young: And I would put reminders for myself next to my bed.
- 51:04Goldie Young: Choose forgiveness.
- 51:06Goldie Young: And then my steps to forgiveness was his blood is enough.
- 51:11Goldie Young: It doesn't matter what happened in the past.
- 51:13Goldie Young: He forgave me, so I have to forgive this.
- 51:16Goldie Young: It's it's gone, it's washed away.
- 51:19Goldie Young: Reminding yourself of these things is is hard.
- 51:23Goldie Young: And even years can go by, and you're like, like the devil will try to ruffle you up and try to bring it back in your face, and you'll have a bad day and a hard day, and then it's like remind yourself.
- 51:35Goldie Young: My grace is sufficient, he said.
- 51:37Austin Young: Yeah.
- 51:38Goldie Young: And another thing for us that's been huge is like in the midst of all of this, you know, like I remember going through this, I'm like, oh our children, like we've gave them like bad examples, like we've taught them horrible things, and they can both talk now.
- 51:52Goldie Young: So this is like you know, terrible.
- 51:54Goldie Young: And I remember God speaking to me, and he took me to a certain Bible verse, and uh, you know, basically just saying, I'm gonna make up for the lost time.
- 52:04Goldie Young: I'm gonna make up for the lost time that you're not even gonna know that everything you taught them up to now was wrong.
- 52:12Goldie Young: You're not gonna know it.
- 52:13Goldie Young: I'm gonna make up for it.
- 52:15Goldie Young: You're gonna see.
- 52:16Goldie Young: God told me that, and I stood on that and I knew it in my heart.
- 52:20Goldie Young: And uh even now, like our kids, like people are like, you guys argue in front of your kids?
- 52:27Goldie Young: I say, yeah, but we will also go apologize to them and to each other in front of them.
- 52:32Goldie Young: I'm like, why do we do that?
- 52:34Goldie Young: Because my parents, I never seen, I never seen that modeled.
- 52:38Michelle Moore: We didn't.
- 52:38Michelle Moore: I we didn't either.
- 52:40Goldie Young: Yeah, and it's like it's like people are like, oh, how weird, you know, like they think, oh, how weird, or you shouldn't argue in front of your children.
- 52:47Goldie Young: Like, I remember when we first got together and he was like, like his biggest argument would be like couples don't argue like this, couples aren't supposed to argue like this.
- 52:57Goldie Young: This isn't a good relationship because couples don't argue like this.
- 53:00Goldie Young: I'm like, well, where were you born?
- 53:01Goldie Young: Fairy tale?
- 53:02Goldie Young: In a fairy tale?
- 53:03Goldie Young: Like, what in the world?
- 53:04Goldie Young: Like, everybody argues.
- 53:06Goldie Young: Nobody can completely agree on 100% and be a yes man, you know?
- 53:10Goldie Young: And so um just knowing, letting our children know.
- 53:14Goldie Young: Everybody argues, and nobody's gonna agree on everything, and uh, you know, uh if you did bad today, do better next tomorrow.
- 53:26Goldie Young: Yeah, and uh if you messed up this, um, do this.
- 53:30Goldie Young: And even God has spoken to me on different occasions with individual my kids, like they've done things and they're like, Oh mom and this and this and this, and and God is like I want to like oh you're grounded and all the things, and God's like, Nope, you're gonna model grace, and I'm like, What?
- 53:48Goldie Young: And I'm like, this was never modeled to me, this is true.
- 53:51Goldie Young: And I will tell them I'm gonna let this slide, and they're like, What?
- 53:55Goldie Young: I'm off the hook, like you know, like what?
- 53:57Goldie Young: And I'm like, God showed me grace, and my parents never taught me what grace was, and I'm teaching you grace, and this is grace.
- 54:04Goldie Young: I'm not saying you're completely off the hook, just know that if you do this again, there will be a consequence, but this time this is grace.
- 54:12Goldie Young: Yeah, and it is God's grace, it doesn't come from me, it comes from our Heavenly Father.
- 54:15Goldie Young: Yeah, and uh just different things in our children that's changed from then to now.
- 54:21Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 54:22Goldie Young: Um that they they know to stand on.
- 54:25Goldie Young: Yeah.
- 54:26Goldie Young: Um that's been that's been a big staple for the both of us.
- 54:30Daniel Moore: Um Yeah, I honestly I don't know how couples do it without having got in the middle of it.
- 54:36Daniel Moore: No, no, no, I really don't.
- 54:37Daniel Moore: It's I think you know that's I think that's an awesome point just to to end this on.
- 54:43Daniel Moore: Uh you know, God's grace, it doesn't matter what kind of because we're good at creating messes.
- 54:49Austin Young: Yes.
- 54:50Daniel Moore: We are like pros at making messes.
- 54:52Daniel Moore: And you know, Satan, that's where he wants us.
- 54:55Daniel Moore: He wants us right in the middle of a mess.
- 54:56Daniel Moore: That's where he thrives.
- 54:58Daniel Moore: And you know, but God can help pick up those pieces.
- 55:01Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 55:02Daniel Moore: And you know, I'm just I'm so thankful for that.
- 55:04Daniel Moore: And uh you guys, thank you so much for taking this time and sharing with sharing with us with your testimony.
- 55:13Daniel Moore: I think this is gonna resonate with a lot of people uh because there's just a lot of hurting people out there today.
- 55:19Daniel Moore: I mean, it's well, you hate to say that, you know, and you want to look around and and see the you know colored the rose-colored glasses and everything.
- 55:28Daniel Moore: But Satan's on the move and he's working on relationships and he's working on marriages, and there's a lot of struggles that's going on.
- 55:36Michelle Moore: And thank you for being so honest and real.
- 55:39Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 55:39Michelle Moore: I mean, because honestly, I mean, when we talked about ours forever, I had so much shame and guilt because I had the affair, and it was just like he forgave me, God forgave me, but I didn't forgive myself.
- 55:50Michelle Moore: So it took me a while to forgive myself, but in all reality, it took me forever.
- 55:57Michelle Moore: But God used our testimony as he's using yours to pour into people and to marriages, and that's what I'm thankful for because a lot of people don't want to talk about their I don't want to say junk, but it is junk.
- 56:12Michelle Moore: I mean it's it's it's a chaotic world that we live in and we all have it.
- 56:16Michelle Moore: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:17Michelle Moore: Um, but a lot of people don't want to talk about it.
- 56:19Michelle Moore: So I'm thankful that you guys are here and what God's doing in your marriage, and we are very, very blessed, and we pray many blessings over you guys.
- 56:29Michelle Moore: Just love sitting down talking to you guys, and just you know, at church we get to see them and see the kids, and yeah, usually it's passing, but every now and then we do get to sit down and chitty chat.
- 56:39Michelle Moore: So we're just so thankful for you guys.
- 56:41Daniel Moore: Yep.
- 56:42Daniel Moore: And just keep thank you so much.
- 56:43Daniel Moore: Just keep pouring into the marriages.
- 56:45Daniel Moore: Yes, yes, you guys are doing awesome work, and you know, God's gonna use you all in a mighty way.
- 56:50Daniel Moore: I truly believe that.
- 56:51Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 56:51Daniel Moore: Um you're you're in a good spot, had a good time.
- 56:54Daniel Moore: God has had all this planned.
- 56:56Austin Young: Yeah.
- 56:56Daniel Moore: And it's just awesome to sit here and watch it unfold.
- 57:00Daniel Moore: Yeah.
