Transcript
- 0:00Chris Jones: I've got your bonus dab of the sauce, two minutes or less.
- 0:03Chris Jones: Let's see if I can do this.
- 0:04Chris Jones: Now, I don't know if you're aware, but we had Peter Rollins on the last episode.
- 0:08Chris Jones: If you haven't heard it, you should absolutely go listen to it.
- 0:11Chris Jones: Beautiful conversation.
- 0:13Chris Jones: Now, in this conversation, it brought up a different lens of how we see Jesus, that we typically see Jesus on the cross crucified and suffering so we can be forgiven for sins.
- 0:25Chris Jones: Now, if you've heard me talk about sins before, there's a reason why I believe Jesus used a terminology thorns when he's talking to his inner twelve.
- 0:33Chris Jones: There's a huge difference.
- 0:35Chris Jones: More to come on that in the future.
- 0:36Chris Jones: Now, Pete brought up that we are in communion with one another when we show our wounds and we accept each other for our wounds.
- 0:46Chris Jones: And it's in those moments of our community that no matter what our differences are or how extreme they are, that when you allow one another to expose your wounds and accept each other for them, we are showing and demonstrating love.
- 1:00Chris Jones: But in a religion where we create a mountain to God through earning your way, we have the tendency to hide our wounds because in a merit-based religion, we judge one another for them, which leaves us feeling ashamed.
- 1:13Chris Jones: Versus coming together and we share our wounds with one another.
- 1:17Chris Jones: And in that we find, as Peter calls it, liturgy, encouragement and comfort.
- 1:22Chris Jones: See, that goes back to what I often say, that the church or our community isn't the destination.
- 1:28Chris Jones: It's the place to be encouraged to keep going, that there is life worth having in the journey through the process.
- 1:36Chris Jones: In other words, it's those with divine scars helping those with wounds.
- 1:42Chris Jones: Isn't that what the resurrected Jesus represents?
- 1:46Chris Jones: Keep in mind, Jesus had scars and they spoke in a very divine way.
- 1:50Chris Jones: That's literally what communion is about.
- 1:53Chris Jones: It's us in communion with Jesus and his brokenness on the cross.
- 1:58Chris Jones: Sins aren't infractions, they're self-inflicted wounds.
- 2:01Chris Jones: And it's in that that we suffer.
- 2:03Chris Jones: So when we come to him with our brokenness, it isn't shame he offers, it's mercy.
- 2:10Chris Jones: And in that we find hope and healing.
- 2:13Chris Jones: Life where there is no life.
- 2:15Chris Jones: God's love.
- 2:16Chris Jones: Well, I missed my two minutes.
- 2:18Chris Jones: If you haven't already, please follow and share.
- 2:21Chris Jones: Little taste of Louisville for you.
- 2:23Chris Jones: Appreciate you.
