- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Graham Hawking Lane Patriot.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: It is May on the Graham Hawking Lane Show where we get to be celebrating Janet Van Dyne, the Wasp, over on the main show.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: And all things and girls, which I love.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: But here on the Patreon, the theme is going to be quote, the only girl on the team and quote.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: And we get to cover one of my favorite weird little Marvel nugget characters.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now back when I worked on the marble handbooks, one of the things I was most known for, I was the like defenders slash xmen slash daredevil guy.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like those were my go to not that I wouldn't do whatever.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: But like anything from the defenders, I love anything from daredevil.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: Next men I love Ruby Thursday is one of those characters from the defenders.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: early Steve Gerber, this character is nuts.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: She's a great time and she's the only girl on the team in a team called the headmen.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to welcome my two guests Michael and Anthony and my initial question for you both is how's your headmen?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me sir.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of a question is that?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to introduce yourselves?
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear a little about your friendship.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: I invited you too because I find you both delightful.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I did not know you were real like a friend.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So tell us a little about your friendship and your initial thoughts on Ruby Thursday.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Let's begin with Anthony.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hi.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello Chad.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hi.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully, you said hi, Michael.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: Just a quick summary about us.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've known go back for years.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we actually, I mean, haven't had the pleasure of me in person yet, but just like a lot like X-Men friendships.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: And like, we all meet like through fans like a certain specific character.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that would be our definitely the gay icon herself Miss Allison Blair, The Dazzler.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: We have a great love for that character.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: Mine's not as high as Michael's, I'll admit, but definitely have a great admiration
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: a little more background on myself.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm my name is Anthony.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: I had Riddledani broader.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: My pronouns are he, him, his.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm asked if I'm with any gender.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: As long as it's just really just a construct at this point.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm much like a Rebecca today's head.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: My fine.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: I've had no complaints.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like I had a quote, Mr. Elvira, a mistress of the dark, but yeah, I can.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: But definitely I'm thrilled to be back on Grey Malkin' Lane, so I think my third appearance.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: So we did a deep dive episode Spotlight and Christian Frost, and the absolute goddess herself, Miss Lee Forester.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, no, how you keep inviting me back, but I guess... Because you're delightful.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you have any initial thoughts on Ruby Thursdays?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Is this a character you knew before?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, she's one of those characters like that has like such a strong visual.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: And you've definitely encountered her before.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in the comics, but you really don't really know a lot about her.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, you were actually telling because Chad, you and I met actually in person for the first time at New York Comic Con, like just last October and you were actually telling me, you're like, we're going to talk about the wackiest female character.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: And you told me about this character.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh, well, I mean, I have a visual.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know nothing about her.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, if there's anything I love more than
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: female character.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's a crazy off the wall's batty, female character, and this character, I mean like you said, she's a Steve Gerber creation.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: So the sheer whacking is that we'll be going into her biography, pretty legendary, and I mean, because I mean, if we're gonna go off like his previous work of creating, how are the doc, and what am I absolute favorite characters?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Necrist and Claire, so we're definitely on a
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: One where I treat trip, but she definitely, I mean Ruby, she really embodies that specific like 70s era blend of like highest kinds of sci-fi and surrealist satire and she's definitely camp and I mean definitely would love to just keep going into hearing more about her and just appreciate more in her spotlight.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, and I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who are going to have a lot of fun, and I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who are going to have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have a lot of fun and have
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: The number of hedgehogs is going to be off the charts.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I love her very much.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Steve Gerber drives the noise the fuck out of me, but when he gets a character right God is it fun.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, let me also welcome Michael to the show.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hello.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Hello.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks to have me again.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is my third time as well.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: Look at that.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: We start us keep lining.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't mean show with Marcus.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Mick Laura and we did a lowest London.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: We did artsy and like over.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, then this might be my fourth thing.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: So thank you for having me again on Grey Malcolm Lane.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's always super fun, always super exciting.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, Anthony, yes, we know each other for years because we'll just say because it does, she brings good people together, like the real-life Kylie Minogue, right?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: They bring people together.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, and I believe this is not our first video interaction I think, correct me from wrong, that you attended early COVID when we had the age of dazzler happy hours with the karaoke back in the day.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and we sang and we broke all the cameras.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: We broke all the windows.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: We had a
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of fun.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: That sounds good.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of drinks.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: So, yes.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: So, what do I do for my pronouns?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: He him his.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm one of the admins in of age or dazzler, like I said, it's a Facebook group, which is lovingly called the most part of the tip, please, on the internet.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I did not make that up so I'm gonna keep it going because the members are incredible and it's very self-sustaining so we're very lucky and thank you for being a member Anthony Um, what shall I say I must have to talk about Miss Thursday, Miss Ruby Thursday Guys, what real name first of all is Thursday Rubinstein, which is a doctor Thursday Rubinstein
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because she's brilliant.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I had absolutely never heard of her.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: I had never seen her before my life So as soon as I got the intel on who she was did a Google search came to your great page of course, Chad, and I'm like, oh my god Yeah, I was pretty vulnerable appendix profile on this character.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: Do I have it on the whole man everyone?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the head all the head jokes are on the way folk
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: But I just can believe that what the striking visual of her I never heard of her and just the deep dive She's brilliant.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: She's psychotic.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: She's out of control.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: She's world domination She wanted to be president like she's just trying to do everything But you know, I've got to give her props because she's not easily dissuade from what she wants to do She knows how to bring people in the second.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: She needs help to teleport and we'll get into that later from a very non-verbal character And she's just a badass
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: and she's got some good one liners too.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: I like some of her little side jokes and her kind of saying it how it is and she just keeps on going but the visual of her head and see we're going to say head all day and what she can do with it.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like there's no limits to it which is pretty cool too.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: feminist icon Dr. Thursday Rubenstein.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get into her crazy origins.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I her visual is usually.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: She has a red globe on the top of her head with no facial expression.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you'll get little like light indicators where her eyes should be.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: So it's giving very dazzling disco ball, which is really genuinely the reason I thought of the two of you for the stage.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's always often wearing like a purple like a crop top or like bikini top and like a pair of little purple pants.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: So she's drawn kind of sexually but with this red head.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: It always weird to me out when they make the head really small.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: So when it's like a little teeny tiny like top or on her neck instead of like a beach ball size, they'd always let me out when it's a tiny head.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: Weird.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is our character.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get into some of the the antics, but another connection for the two of you as Dazzler fans.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: This song, or this character, very much, comes from their Rolling Stone song, Ruby Tuesday.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have never heard it, go listen.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a song ever written, but it's pretty famous.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby Tuesday was released in 1967.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: It emerged during a transitional moment for the Rolling Stones.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: When their sound was going from blues rock into more reflective Baroque pop.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: territory.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's written primarily by Keith Richards with contributions from Mick Jagger.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's widely understood to be inspired by a woman that Keith Richards knew in the mid-1960s, who he described as a free spirited, elusive, and impossible woman to hold on to.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's lyrics capture a wistful acceptance of impermanence paired with a melodic arrangement featuring recorder and piano that sets it apart from their gritty ear hits.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: It became a major success, number one in the United States for weeks, and it's endured as one of the band's most recognizable ballads, a softer, more introspective side of their catalog.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: But where you may know it from modern listeners, there's a casual dining chain called Ruby Tuesday's
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, in 1972, the names itself directly after the song.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of apple-beezish if you've never eaten at a Ruby Tuesdays.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: It reflects the era's tendency to draw from pop culture to create familiarity and emotional resonance in a dining experience.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: There's no direct connection other than the name Ruby Tuesdays.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever eaten at a Ruby Tuesdays?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: And do you have any opinions on the song Ruby Tuesday?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so the song is pretty cool.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't remember.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't think that I had heard it until I listened to the link you sent and I definitely heard it before not a huge favorite, but it's a very cool song.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: I just I think I need to soak it in more of my song listening structure as I've got to listen to it once and then I need it on repeat and I haven't done that yet.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: So more to come on that and I have eaten it Ruby Tuesday before unfortunately.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: They seem to be going away in our area, which is not a bad thing, but back in the day I thought it was okay until I realized you're not so okay There's like a lot of there's still a lot of sodium there's still a Marie calendars open in Salt Lake City, which is crazy to me And it's too sizzling No, not the sizzler broken glass of the salad No
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the first thing I thought it was the Ruby Tuesday.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean because that was like I didn't know that chain restaurant I thought that was like something that'd be like from like the 90s the odds I mean, but I mean I did hear like when I was like at the biography to that 1967 rolling stone song And I mean not the biggest I mean I respect the rolling stone throughout they are but not really a huge fan of like that kind of like that era But I mean the second very much is like an air worm if you guys listen to that and play on Spotify
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely now definitely is has a nice beat to it, but you know, there's definitely a I mean if we ever Or I and when someone was ever to create a nice like Ruby Tuesday or Ruby Thursday Oh my god, I can do that.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know right, but someone if I have creative line We're wants to create there's or Ruby Thursday a spot if I play this definitely a lot to choose from but that song is a centerfold so
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so one thing I want to talk about.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: I love when people take a non-secretor and make it into a first name.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: There's a famous actress called Tuesday Weld, who is, oh, I find Stin and an old X-Men comic from the Silver Age.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: We got characters like Wednesday Adams.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Even Nicole Kidman has a daughter named Sunday Rose.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: But you may, you may think first of Iron Man's digital AI Friday, his digital assistant.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: So there's, there's, look, kinds of options here.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Any, any other day characters come to mind?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, there is another Friday from PowerPack, the alien spaceship.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, their good ship Friday.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: I need to have, I need the Ruby Thursday or it's in story.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I need to know why our parents were thinking conquered first.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but wait, at least it's Jewish representation.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Rubenstein, that's very much it.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Jewish heritage.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, listen, we know something about her.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: We really know if she looks like visually.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, we got to talk about Steve Gerber for a couple of minutes.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Steve Gerber.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: So the defender's lunch is as the non-team.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: And it's initially name or doctor strange, silver surfer hall.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: I find gimmicks to keep this team together and they bring in characters like Nighthawk Hellcat and Valkyrie as kind of rounding out the cast as the people who are being pulled in and out of various adventures.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Those three characters in particular are really interesting visions into the early 1970s.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Nighthawk is the billionaire playboy.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: who's so depressed, he got a DUI once and killed his girlfriend.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's so sad, he put a jetpack underneath the wings on his costume.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: But everything's crazy.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: And a Valkyrie is a character who has had her mind overwritten with a feminist icon who carries a sword that's bigger than all the men's swords.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: And she's wearing a metal bra.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can't burn a metal bra because it's metal.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of questions related to identity.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: who and I, and what does this mean?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: We're leaning hard.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is the Howard deductor.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: So we're leaning hard into kind of nonsensical versions.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Steve Gerber gets a lot of this wrong.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: He likes to do things like play with race.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And when you have a character like Nekra, who's been reaping to be interesting, she's like a white black woman, who is often teamed up with a black white man, who looks like the black mutation marks.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like a monkey and controls women with pheromones.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's not problematic at all, right?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: We don't think he does.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Or we need us the sons of the serpent.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a play on race.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: These are the racist anti-immigrant characters.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: And at the end, their leader on masks is like a prominent black man in the community.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like some of the stories don't hold up as well.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, in this era of defenders, we're going to be jumping into 1976, which is right where the X-Men is at the time, and I fucking love this era of defenders, there's a lot going on, lots of characters coming in and out, ranging from Daredevil to Hawkeye to Yellowjacket to Power Man.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot happening.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the things we are leaning very much into the first, I would love to do an episode one day on the character Nebulaan, who's like an alien tentacle god from space in the form of like a golden skinned like a vunderkinned like pretty boy, a with long fobio hair and like tight skin tight suit, but he's leading like a cult movement where kind of
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: people come over to his celestial mind control movement.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: You lose yourself into absurdity, and you paint your face like a clown, and we're cheerleading outfits, and like prance about bozos in the street, but really they're planting bombs.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of crazy stuff related to absurdity.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: Then we meet the headmen, and the headmen is introduced in the middle of all this nonsense, interacting with all these things.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna see a lot of the themes I've already introduced very briefly like second wave feminism, identity, classism, et cetera.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: The headmen that I have to do a little more set up here is a group of characters who the three male characters are all previously established.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: characters from pre-Silver Age Marvel properties.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: One of them is Chandu The Mystic.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: His real name is Harvey Schlemerman.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: He first appears in Tales of Suspense 9 in 1960.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: I have profiles up on all these characters at the appendix.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: You can go look at their weird histories and he's just like a mystic guy and a turban basically.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Then we have Arthur Nagin, the gorilla man, who is an expert in organ transplants.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: And in his initial appearance in Mystery Tales 21, which I think is from like 1954, he transplants his own head onto the body of a gorilla, because the gorilla has a stronger body, and he's capable of more things.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: But now he's basically a human head on a gorilla body in a lab coat.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Then we have the third character, whose Gerald Morgan, who often gets called shrunken bones.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he's a little like Hank Pym.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: He first shows up in World of Fantasy 11 from 1958.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of those short horror stories where the guy has like shrinking gas, but he ends up shrinking his own skull bones.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: So like his face skin hangs too much off the bones at the end of the day.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so now he looks like this like old man who's like too much skin for his face basically.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: These three characters combine with Ruby Thursday and they make a group called The Headmen and Ruby Thursday has her own version of Crazy Heads.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sean to the Mystic has removed his own head.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's often seen on a little pair of like spidery legs, so it's just a literal head walking around on legs.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see the nonsense of how all this plays out with the focus on Ruby Thursday of course.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: But this group first shows up together in Defenders number 21, but we don't meet Ruby Thursday until Defenders 31.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: So again, go to the appendix if you want more of the history of the characters of the headman or their individual group stuff.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Because we're going to keep this focused on Ruby, but she allies herself with these three crazy guys.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: You guys have thoughts.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I guess I guess I can ask you the question Anthony, a fuck Mary kill shrunken bones Dr. Nigg and the gorilla man and chondid the mystic.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just so fees a choice Oh my gosh.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean I Well, I mean, so right away, we'll have to fuck Chondoo because I mean since like I he doesn't have a coherent body So I mean we definitely move his body.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I guess you have more desirable He would be any kind of body.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: We want so I guess I do that.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're just ahead.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's all you need
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I guess if you want to be a Stapio section, I guess, that's okay.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then Mary, Dr. Nagan, I mean, I mean, he seems like he's I decent and I don't know these and then kill the other one because that old man was really okay on my nerves.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, quite the choice there, yeah.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, early thoughts on the headband.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: These guys gross you out a little bit, I think.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're disgusting.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I feel like creating these characters is completely not serious at all.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, hey, let's just do these completely wild out of control things.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: Make it all about heads.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll probably never see these characters again, but let's go for it.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: And have these completely wild backstories that don't really make a whole lot of sense.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: But we're just gonna do it.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: But it almost seems to go like if you've read Alice in Wonderland and it's all serity and like yeah There's a you know, she's changing size and like it's all perspective or even go back to early Wizard of Oz books If you guys have ever seen the return to Oz there's that character Langoff here who has the cabinet of heads that she changed Oh, yes, that's terrifying.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yes For a little for who's the bulk in that movie
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: You'll go ask Alice that rocks on where, you know, feed your head is a big part.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I think there's a lot of rock and roll hippie movement in these characters.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so defenders number 31, things are going crazy.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: Billionaire Playboy Kyle Richmond is Nighthawk and he's recently had his brain transplanted with that of Chondo Domestic.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's a whole thing.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle ended up in a coma and then they get captured and Chondo is looking for a like hot white and billionaire body, I suppose to occupy.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: So Chandu's mind is in Nighthawk, which is giving that weird like evil twin among the, you know, because the heroes don't know it's the guy.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle's brain has literally been removed from his body, and it's been placed in a dish.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: For those of you that remember my episode on the presence in Starlight, which is the father of Dark Star and Vanguard, Starlight is a Russian freedom fighter who's also a neurosurgeon.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like the world's most pronounced brain surgeon, she gets brought into the defenders in this era because they need her to put the brain back in Nighthawks body at the end of this story.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, there's a lot going on.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: In the middle of all this, Arthur Nagan introduces the new team member Ruby Thursday.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's a red crystal ball screwed onto a body with a bright kind of pink red magenta color depending on how the coloring goes and her she's got a high collar and a plunging neckline her tits are basically out.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: Purple Leotard bear legs you can see the entire center of her abdomen both of you could cause play this look and I will give it a like Anna share.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: This looks like a costume from the substance.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: Did you guys see that show where the Dimey Morse character and movie and there's two of the shots of the workout.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Very close.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby Thursday's head is an organic computer, and she immediately demonstrates the ability to morph her face.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's a ship-shifting face.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: She changes it into the face of Morgan, and then she uses it to sprout tentacles.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: And Morgan is disturbed, but where I'll outcasts, but at least our heads are human.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: This woman is a monstrosity, technological purfergen.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: the defenders show up to investigate.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: They find a woman at the door in the guys of a hippie, professing love and she's glowing with light and then her head explodes and quote, the thousands of glass-like fragments of that living grenade come rolling back across the carpet to merge in a coherent and familiar shape which then deposits itself back into the proper place, that of the head of Ruby Thursday.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: So she can explode her head and it'll come back together.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: And the lineup of the defenders are completely defeated in combat.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: The head generates anti-gamma radiation to defeat the horse, specifically.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Why not?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: So Dr.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Strange Valkyrie Hulk and Nighthawk who has the brain of Chandu if you recall.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: We jump forward, Ruby.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: reforms a full gurney for the Hulk out of her head, complete with handles attached to her head, Chandu's mind ends up getting transplanted into a baby deer.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me, I'm sorry, Kyle's mind ends up in the baby deer.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's a little fawn running around with the billionaire playboys mind in it.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Chandu's brain is in Nighthawk.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: He reads meets Ruby for the third time.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: Um, nice to meet you.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: Your, that is most of you.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was very attractive.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: And she says, thank you.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: I also find your body intriguing.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Please accept this expression of my wish that we grow to be come close associates.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: I for when I'm delighted.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: Megan told me you were even stuffier than me, but you seemed to apprehend the absurdity of, so she's attracted to the Nighthawk body, but the she forms her head into a huge pair of fucking lips and kisses Nighthawk's body on the face.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Chondi was deeply disturbed,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: but they don't realize it's actually Jack Norris's mind inside of Chambu's brain, inside of Nighthawk's body.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Norris being the husband of Barbara Norris, who is the identity of the Valkyrie that's been overwritten.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna get it, just don't worry about it.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, it's my fault.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: So the headmen soon reveal what their actual goals are.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Megyn wants to create a society with order, one which functions like the precision instrument, and Morgan wants to further his own science of shrinking things.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby says, I seek more than mere appreciation of my work after all, this head was my own creation, and it's better than any of yours, featureless, beautiful, and its simplicity.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: and a mass of malleable organic circuitry.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's all brain and computer quick, and I want every human being to have one.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay girl, you got goals.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then try to brainwash the defenders, but the baby deer breaks in, so the fight breaks out in the heroes' errtvot.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the Ruby disarms Valkyrie, so it's feminist versus feminist.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: Then she holds Dr.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Strange and some head tentacles.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then she'd splucious like a sick sticky head substance all over the defenders.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's like pink sticky bubble gum goo.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing vicious, just highly undignified to reflect my opinion of my assailants.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then the headman escaped.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, in 35 Ruby helps build a new body for Chandu and it's a little organic head all his own, but he kind of looks like, I don't know, he's an old man with a unicorn horn and some wings on the back.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: and he's so pissed.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of history about this guy trying to get his own body.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's hands up and she Hulk's body for a while.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's like his old man head on.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: She Hulk's like booze and body.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: She also flirts with Nebula on in this era and then in Defender's annual number one Nebula is revealed to be an alien monster posing as a golden starry man running the cult that I referenced before and it's all
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: The headman realized that maybe they can use this platform to launch control of all society.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they all corner into a particular area of world dominance that they want to achieve.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby poses as the new head of a new political party with the slogan, new heads for old.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: She began, of course, you're always finding this mess and support through female voters.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got a female running for president.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: in the 70s.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Norris offers a $100,000 donation and he gets shown in for a meeting but Ruby sees right through him trying to flirt with her.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: She knocks him out, stops him in the closet.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: She then looks like a redhead, the girl with like pig tails and she's smoking a cigarette through this section and she keeps calling men male, shoving his pigs.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: Which goes back to the scum manifesto that I talk about extensively in the man killer episode with Sarah sentry.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: You can go listen to that.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Norris escapes.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: He exposes Ruby's true nature, and he's at at at her new political rally Ruby throws him throw when
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: though, rejoins the other headmen.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: They're all back from their own individual plots.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to get lost to those stories.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: The defenders, Nebulaan, and the actual president of the United States have now all been shrunk down.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: They're being cast on a little snow globe, and then the Hulk attacks and Ruby throws her head at him.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hits him with stingers, explosive charges, morphs her head into a fist.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: Hits him again with anti-gamma radiation, but he ends up
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: The headmen are defeated.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby uses a steel gets a steel girder wrapped around her head in order to get defeated here.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: And in this story, we also get more shooting tentacles and another shooting head.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that's it for her initial appearances.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me your thoughts on Ruby Thursday's introduction.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot to attack here.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's begin with her origins.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know where to start.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I guess I have two things.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: One is not completely related to her.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: And in the second one is the first one.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: All the body swaps and head swaps and brain swaps.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's right now.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm deep into alpha flight omnibus 2.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, I'm like, it's reminding me of that, which was later of course, but it's like, everything that was happening was Sasquatch and then was snowbird and the deaths and then Sasquatch and then snowbird and then he became a she with a white hair is wanted.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, this is reminding me of all that because it's so insane.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I'm like, what were these writers on?
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: Why were they doing?
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Why were they doing this?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Did they have any kind of like Chris Claremonti and plans for this in the future?
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely not.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's like worth throwing everything out here to see what sticks.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but getting to Ruby.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like her head See we're just gonna keep saying it.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's like a Mary Sue's situation because her head just does everything
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: right like there's no limits to this head it turns into everything it can change color she has tentacles it has guns it turns into big lips it's like nothing she can't do with this maniacal plastic red computer brain ahead and I kind of love that but it makes me sad because as we move forward with this we're just going to have a lot of camuos so she gets to Wolverine um which is kind of an extended camu so like they could have done so much more with her so it makes me sad
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: She's interesting.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: The moon is alone.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to replace my head with another.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it's a different one.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's a different form of commentary on feminism.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he's embracing, like, look at my boobs in my perfect body.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: But also, my head is featureless.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: So when we get Chandu being like, I'm attracted to most of you.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, the idea of conventional beauty.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, this computer is so fucking efficient.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody should have changed the world with my intention.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like, not good.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: Shut wrong.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: early AI maybe what's going on there.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony thoughts on her like motivation and even her fashion.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well we do have to remember though.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean this feminism if we want to say that is coming from the male writer or something.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's a hot body with a, like, a smart driving with, like, organic, like, a ball.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Our fear as the heads really can't really get that serious.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, her motivations are very generic, we have to say.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, she was now cast being a scientist.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's pretty much a pro quo for almost, uh, villain origins.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not like something, like, stipulating, like, or, like, enticing, like, and even how messy it was, like, with, like, necros origin, with, like,
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I mean like she definitely has like it like I said I mean she's very much guided by her visual right now I mean like her visual is her powers are mean much like at the time like a combination like Mr.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic and like Misty with the shaping and like being able to reform it and she also has like the abilities of
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, it's very very much just like that.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so it's not like anything like it's like for the time I mean, let's say it's just I mean you just can tell like writers like just going off their head or just doing whatever on a whim Not like establishing limits or anything like that, but she like definitely has like I mean at least like the goal She has I mean she likes I mean it another generic generic up front our mission She has like money that want everyone to have that because I mean didn't like the lizard and the Spiderman like more like everyone to become lizards, but so yeah, like you think that's
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: original, but I mean like this side, I mean at least like we're getting like a lot more like female like leaders and like more established like intelligent female characters in the Marvel of the universe.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean it's like a it's like world domination but in the name of like Chi I Joe cool yeah back like yeah but in the name of efficiency right yes she's like being like a scientist I like also that she's definitely the most fucking powerful member of this team.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: And ironically, Mystique wasn't created for two more years.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: So Mystique was created in 1978.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: She shows up in 76.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: She's smart.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: We also get the run for president storyline where she gets a little bit more focus.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: When she's smoking the cigarette with her red hair and pig tails and literally, it's almost her playing by the rules to get power.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then she's got her literal slogan
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Not I'd vote for her.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean overall.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's right and little did they know it wasn't metaphorically she was being very literal when she said that because she would want everyone to have computer brains and it would be a hive mind and she would dominate the world right I mean she's kind of ahead of her time if you think about that right again with AI and computers
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: I had the time.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: Something else that comes to mind with her head being able to do everything.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: To me, it's very 80s cartoon, so a little ahead.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: It reminds me of Shira and her sword, because we seem to have a lot of characters who will just happen to have a sword or an object that they can kind of create anything they needed any time to save the day.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: So like, she restored.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, now it's a whip.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's a parachute.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's this.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: I can shoot lasers.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Ruby's head.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's like that plot device that you can always rely on to know.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we can just have this person do that in those save the day.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: Making them incredibly powerful, but kind of like, okay, that's too easy sometimes.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: But the visuals are great.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm gonna say I like it because how often do you have this red Ruby head doing all this crazy stuff?
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: You don't see that in comics.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: When you get into them, all the, like, it's the, the, the, estranged husband's mind and the body of the mystic and the body of the billion.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: His brain has been transferred into the deer and also you've got the nebula.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's all identity, but we just need a soundtrack that's like,
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: out of an odd parallel of the Superman story told in like the idea of like a mentally ill kid.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: This character gets reinterpreted once in a while.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: That story gets picked up in that book as it ends with Omega the unknown number 10 and then melts over into the defenders.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, tell us about the next era of Ruby Thursday.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh god, all right.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for having me on the deep end, buddy.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's all right.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're coming up just some cameos.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go for it.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not going to get into him.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: I go so much.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you Chad for the intro that because I just get stuck on his headband and he's made of living circuitry too.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, I like this character.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad that I never read him in real time.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: Nor was I alive back then.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: But any who.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: The good news is we get Thursday back because that's why we're talking about this So she's now set up in Las Vegas and it seems that she has this brand new partnership with this silent monster named I'm gonna call him Debuk debuk debuk debuk.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what to call him, but he doesn't say what his name is because he can't talk So we're gonna call him Debuk because I like seeing it that way.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's a weird couple monster.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of looks like
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Sim or Nastir.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: He looks like a little bit of a demon guy.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: He does.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: He has some spikes and doesn't he's non-verbal But he has some cool powers, so of course he has super strength because he's went on He can stick to walls, so he's like spider-man and teleportation, which is always handy Don't know anything about him.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's just kind of there But he has this dependence and some kind of relationship which we don't really know a whole lot about with their stay
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and she seems to just call him at will, and he seems to be ready to back her up in the safe savor.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: So hey, why not?
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so diving into Ishutan.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: So she's not looking like herself right now.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: She's clearly able to, um, you know, as we saw earlier, change her head into a non-red material because she has brown hair.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: She's in a purple dress, and clearly she lives wearing purple, right?
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: She's in purple again, even when she's not in her regular outfit.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: So she's been watching Omega, the unknown, and Gramps has, you know, clearly his grandfather.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and they're winning lots of money in Las Vegas, and she's following them around.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: So when they leave, and they go to their room, she's at the door, burn her, knocking at the door, bringing them bottle of champagne, pretending she's just there to celebrate.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: Some random lady, you know, I'm gonna hang out with you fellows, right?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: So, suddenly, um, these tentacles, I, that's what I'm gonna call them.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what else to call them.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: Come out of her head, and they have to act this out.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: I apologize everyone.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: Glad you can't see this.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: No video.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: And very weird, very creepy.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: They latch on to the two guys and she's strangling them and knocks them both out cold.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: But a boom, so she very deviously kind of says, and I find this hysterical.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: Guess we don't be needing that champagne, huh fellas?
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, it was cheap, didn't stick anyway.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: So lady is out of control so I just I just she's out of control right and we don't really know why she's doing this other than money Right like there's no background to why she's even the air doing this, but she is and she's gonna do it Um, so as you know like I said Debuk her BFF I guess is there she calls him to help collect the money and you know even the disguise must have just you know Trect him because she had to call him several times So next thing you know they're scaling down the wall outside of the window and she's using her tentacles to kind of flee herself
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and then Omega, you know, soon, except discovers that this has happened.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: Other money's gone off the bed.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: The big bag of money.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because we just keep the money and a big bag of course.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: You wouldn't put anywhere else.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_02]: But on top of the bed or under the bed.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: And he flies down, grabs her.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: She's driving a vehicle, you know.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: the getaway vehicle.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: And he crashes the car.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's screaming at her trying to figure out what the cash went, pulling her hair, which is not very nice, as he's about to punch her, or slap from the face, about that police quickly arrived.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_02]: Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't,
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: Um, what I would have liked to see from her though in that last panel, instead of being like a distraught victim, is a devious little stare and snare or smile, a smirk, you know, like I wanted to see a little evil out of her butt.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: She's just out there last Vegas cosmonacone's problems in getting people killed.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: Ruby, they're safe, trouble.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, so we're getting into Defenders.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: She next pops up into Fender's 76 and 77.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: So, the good news is she made a cover.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: A little picture, but she is on the cover of Defender's 76 through their buddy, Debuk.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: And this is when we start seeing her with like little shinies for eyes.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, and I think our head's bigger too.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like you said, Chad, that kind of varies in size because it's malleable, why not?
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: But, Isaac, for it, a little bigger like the size of a human,
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: going to head.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: There's something about the tiny head, you know, very beautiful juice, I guess.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: Something about a tiny head on a regular sized body that I'm like,
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: like that for her.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: I like it better when her head is bigger than her boobs.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I could say.

- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, he's composed of organic cybernetics, right?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: Who doesn't want to be composed of that?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: And she wants to get her hands on that.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: Which means she wants to get her hands on his corpse.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's in the morgue, okay?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: So she wants to just get this to improve her own body.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, functioning.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's really thoughtful for her.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: Just let's still body and fold all apart.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: So she poses undercover again as a police woman.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_02]: And she enters the morgue signaling to again, Debuk, to come on in and teleport, okay?
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: So she takes the corpse.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's great, so not quite into Grave Robin yet because she's not digging up bodies, but she's still in dead bodies, nonetheless.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and a good quote that I like is, a masterwork of cybernetics, so sophisticated, he makes you look like a high school science project.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right, come on, give yourself.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: more credit.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, on the goal is to tap into this, make herself powerful, is life itself and be unstoppable.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Because again, that's kind of generic things all villains want to do.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: They want to be unstoppable.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: So it's funny when I think about this for her, um, and I take a step back.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of villains, of course, in real life, and I would assume comic world, if they don't really know that they're villains.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: Typically, right?
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I'm doing these things.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking I'm doing the right thing, and I'm not bringing politics into them, seeing
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: if you look at the big picture, they're really not.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: They're hurting a lot of people, right?
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: So with her, she seems fully aware that she isn't bad guy.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm doing this.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's about me.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just gonna hurt, you know, taking this corpse.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: So whatever, go for it.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_02]: So she's about to kind of put them with a knife because I don't know why she's not using her head.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_02]: Right, she's holding a knife, which I find kind of odd, and she could just head knife, but whatever, and she didn't really know who it was when she robbed it.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: Back in Vegas, and now she's putting these things together.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, she's found that, and he tried to take the current stopper.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: So we're moving on to Defender 77 because that's kind of a to be continued moment.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: Now, to be fair in these issues, this doesn't really seem to be a main storyline.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: We kind of get snippets as it goes back and forth through those story.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not getting into because she's not in those panels or pages.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, suddenly, because Omega, this is another very weird situation, his body kind of switches.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: With the young James Michael Starling, that little boy, um, which shocks Thursday, because she almost, you know, stabbed him, not a corpse, and she blamed him for this witch.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: She's kind of outraged, because she wants those damn cybernetics.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, she wants answers, uh, then she's determined to simply dissect this child instead.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, uh,
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oops, that's a villain, everybody.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's a villain.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Not good.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Not good.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: She wants to see what's inside this little boy.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: So before she can get his hands on him in attacking robot, you know, things burst through the walls.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: We get some robot coming in.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: There's a big fight.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: It goes out into the street, and they happen to run into Palcat, but Dragon and Velcreatemoss.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: Look at that.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: that because they were kind of outside around doing their own little mission.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: So this is when her head comes into action, it's punching, it's block balconies, it's turning into a shield, it's just doing everything.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: And Hellcutta's hacks are, and she swings there as they off the building.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Woo, bye, bro.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Um, drop from a hype, of course.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: Her Mary Sue ahead of her as she gets wings and flies.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: So she's fine.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing really bad could happen to her right now, but things
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: which is coming up right now.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: So the was, realizing that her head wasn't like a mask.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: She went into the real head, she bio stings it, and it burst open, and cracks it all up all these pieces of her flying, and Jan was actually kind of shocked that she did this.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, there's a VFF happens to say for at that time, teleporting her to safety.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: But I just like, I like the wasp here because she's like, oh, she said her helmet is made for organic cybernetic.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's fine.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'll blow her head away.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh no!
- 39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_02]: Remember in the comics Taylor say, one word.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: Oh no.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a helmet.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's her head.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: One of those forgotten weird marble under his old plot line.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know what the fuck the book is.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: And he's never been again.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Three appearances.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Never seen a gun.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_02]: And he has a mustache.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: And really like big yellow eyebrows, a big mustache.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: He has like a scale son of his head.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: No words.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's got jam.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, I'm Port Sherwaff.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: And the giant would cover her very brief appearance in the bar with no name story from Marvel Comics presents in 1997.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: It is like a bar fight.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, come on.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to assume that they're back Vegas because they're in a bar.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, but the artist here so this takes me to my new warrior stays because it looks like I think it's Mark Bagley art.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he said it looks like it's me.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even look.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: But I like that's Mark Bagley.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's Mark Bagley.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's Mark Bagley.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's Mark Bagley.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I'm good.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't look it up.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: I promise you all.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: They're just hanging out in a bar and this is where she is drinking with her face That looks like a straw down into her glass.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I mean, so here's something else to do do we know and maybe Chad or someone else is reading blog We'll tell us this to like her body like what does she need to eat?
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: Does she need to drink?
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: Does she need sustenance?
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: Do we even know anything about her as far as we know?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: It is an organic head on a human body.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's all right
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all right, she's doing her best I guess.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: So this is pretty short.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of a I will definitely call this a cameo She doesn't have much going on here.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: So we just have a bar fight.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: So they had men all hanging out plotting as they usually do Um, at the bar with no name.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna guess this is a little riff on cheers where everybody knows your name Where everybody knows your ali is
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking that the show cheers.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: They made my rating so much into it, but yeah, so they're just fighting everyone's fighting and she pummeles whirlwind until Angar the screamer knocks them all out Angar Angar Angar.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's such a good plan words, not really and she just drinks with her face with her tendrils strawberry before that.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: So that's
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: Really all that's going up with her there folks for start in the run of the cameo queen and let's jump in this one's a little bit more modern But this might be a single weirdest appearance and they do you want to tell us about I heart marvel outlaw love number one this Do like these random books
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: I know it is.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean maybe this is a story.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, friend of the pot.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: I actually don't know if he's been your pot, but um, but I love it very much Yeah, I mean this is like actually probably one of her like maybe one or two other like big stories I mean this is more like a I'm on a romance themed anthology where Ruby Thursday is paired with like the answer This character named Aaron Nicholson who is like a I'm
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: broker for most villains and it's probably one of her biggest stories.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean so the answer is pretty much um well I mean the little more backstory is that Thursday is like um they she spent a few months in Paris with with the supervillain the answer and they formed a great romance then like she I mean and then the answer fell in love with her and then she just goes to him haha
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: as you did.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: And one of those weird, like, I don't know, it's kind of like an escapade ability.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you ask him a question, he can get the answer somehow.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so whatever question he answers, he's able to find the answer.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: So he addresses like a like a super villain and like rents himself out to like various criminals.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's a weird spider band villain.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, go ahead.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not really, like I said, he's a male character, so I don't care.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's pretty much, but this whole story line, it's very much a rare humanizing look at her.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she and the answer, I mean, it seemed like they have a really genuine, but like a little more twisted, like romantic connection.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so they have that connection then she goes to him and then she comes back and this time, like Thursday, I'm Ruby Thursday has a plan to aim,
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: the answer for his knowledge and like find out like how like aims for find out more about like their procurement budget then like there's some situation where she was interrupted by the sister of sin yeah he seems to be having like some sort of sexual encounter with the sisters of sin who are like the orphan girls that the red skull brought up to an advanced age to be like evil none friends for his evil Nazi daughter right story
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, I don't know.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, I didn't paid but yeah, but like more if they were there one of their names is a sister pleasure who later goes by her on Oh Oh
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm sure it's her world show appropriate, so another, okay, well that's definitely if they didn't need you see us if we have, but I mean, so pretty much just like I mean, she's pretty much just like as like trying like she tried begins like taking money from like aim like taking like different like plots like to like take like only enough money that like no one would notice, but then like I mean, as it happens like a degree got the best of her and she started like pulling the same scheme under all these different aliases on with her shapeshifting ability and who
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: like using like names like Angela Jagger and then this actually led to like aim to hire on bullseye to actually assassinate her on bullseye who actually will be being just time of recording will be in the new bullseye or new bullseye should know new daredevil busy plus show but so I mean it's
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: At first, you think like the plot is good lines would be like the answer will be hunted by Bullseye, but he actually is going to assassinate Rooby.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we do get like to see like Rooby using her genius and like her malleable head, like to protect him from Bullseye.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, proving that like even like as her as a woman with a organic computer, she could find love in the marble.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: Underworld in this case scenario, but with the way that like she was like trying like to um um like all with all these like repeat Skeams like to scam um aim Bullseye actually actually assassinated her with like by actually he is really really violent.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he literally killed her by throwing a C.D.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: into her chest and like destroying her body and then first watch you know this I
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like the more the many times like he actually decapitates her.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, she makes her return.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, by answer, keeping her head because he's like so in love with her.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where I should go into hiding.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it's hard to find a way to reactivate her head.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: So he likes to parts with her head and the duffel bag.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of scissor.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: Her chest.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's this really bizarre image in this issue of her like with her red head on her bikini body doing yoga.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's really interesting.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: And she's typing on the computer with all these tentacles.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, and also when the when the answer's texting her He is texting in her in her in his phone.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: She's saved his head girl So we know like that romance So we learn a lot about her in this and he's 3,000 six her organic body is dead and she has to regenerate some So we'll get we'll get to that in a minute.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're hopping around a lot chronological order.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean that
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: how many reviews like I mean she's kind of like uh if we want to say like like um Marvel's all-tronerly death strike I mean she's like one she like her body gets destroyed I mean she transfers it into a new body I mean like digitally so she's kind of like a cyborg in that way but I mean like her next appearance a lot of chronological like in back and like what was this like the 80s yeah let's go back to 1989 in John Burr has the sensational she holds this is where she's yeah I mean this is like wall and the headmen launch this series it's fun yeah
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like right after like the whole like when like was like destroy your head and then we presume she's dead But I mean at this point in the storyline, we're just like I mean Q asked Oscar Isaac and Star Wars It's somehow Ruby of Thursday has returned.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean at this point I mean we know like Ruby Thursday is a key member of the headmen again and she's pretty much with I mean This is like in John Burns like really at the time I mean like rich now a very legendary run of
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: the sensational She-Hulk.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just based off the Disney Plus show that all the sex is hate on, I'll say it.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: But this time we're kind of like showing like more that she is that like smaller head like you're saying.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, we can say like that, I mean, with her having a smaller head, I mean, maybe you could say like she shrinked a bit so cause to make it like not as like a much of a target, like it was with the wasp.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty interesting.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: But for this like storyline, I mean, she's pretty much just more of a bet.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's just really play a major role.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: But she's primarily a background character throughout like the first couple of issues.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one where she hopes head gets taken off and Sean do get to.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's like attached to the body.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I was like, this is really, I mean, I love John Burns artwork.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and I do love his shoeball growing, but I mean, this is a crazy art to start off with.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: But basically, like, just summarize, I mean, the headman, I like, are pretty much like couriering efforts like to hire the circus of crime, just as she walks straight.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: They want, like, brands pose like another the head to Shandu who's having issues with that current body that we're having from the new defenders or, I mean, our defenders storyline and, like, with pro roll at hand, I mean, she's pretty much just like, um,
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: She appears with the other headband in the lab and she's the one who's suggest like circus like capture gen and have all of us sophisticated Operation with how to capture her and then issue two of she Hulk.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean she becomes a little more active with the headman as they modern She Hulk's life in a new apartment and she's pretty much just like overseeing the toadman invasion Which turns out to be like illusion by mysterious Mysterios here if you'd needed a Ruby Thursday Mysterio team up.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Here you go.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: I know
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I know.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's a match made heaven.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: With colors up too, their style's simple too.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yay.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, no, no, they're pretty much like, yeah, that's not I think about, yeah, I don't know why this like, they're only team up, like, pretty much.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: They had a fest to get for 20, 27, right?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, yeah, that's bring it back.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: Bring that the ship for them.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: So very much.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she's more just like a cam, you know, just like doing like more like the heavy lifting like fighting John and she's like helping like Fiermenting on like dealing John's body like so they could like transpose it to a Chondu the mystic.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this storyline is absolutely Bugs shit.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean the way that they're like that had switching in such two or rounds.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: We have that one.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm that one insane movie from like I'm Tim Burton in the 90s that I think it's like Mars attacks or something where they're
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, he's like with like the one girl I switched to buy with her tomorrow.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just like a Parker.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she has her daughter.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, pretty much her biggest Ruby's biggest like issued a date is that she finally gets to actually get into like direct physical confrontation like with like other characters.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Ruby's in the lab when they successfully decapitate a clone of she Hulk.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Jen thinks that it's her own value for her, so I mean, it's crazy, crazy like we're rearing it, but Ruby pretty much handles all like the technical aspects of the neutralizer.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm using Jen, then Spireman comes into the storyline and they fights on sort of, when Spireman tries to go rescue She-Hulk, I mean Ruby attacks him directly with her, like I said, her Mary Sue.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: I like you said, Rikolo, which is understandable.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: She's just like her mouth will have multiple tentacles, which will be unfortunately, we'd be seeing a lot in future sort of lines.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then she also, like, transforms her head into a giant hammer and a dirt firing weapon, which is pretty interesting use of her power line.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: hours.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: Bring my say that I'll just try to take down Spider-Man and she hauled Benchley breaks free and helps Spider-Man to meet the whole team.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: And last we see a Ruby, she's just like lying in the round and conscious, so it's not really, it's truly a insane storyline, but I mean, it's truly villain action, so, but I mean, she's
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: issues.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're really like seeing like John burn play at the fact that like Ruby Thursday was supposed to be like dead like from her Early appearance like being killed by a loss, but when Spiderman asked her about she's just simply says I got better So just a way like to hand away the continuity He uses her again in web of Spider-Man 73 in 1991.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to tell some about that one too?
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so this is another John burn era appearance.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: I believe you love it
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he clearly definitely found like a great.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe he just like loved visual drawing her, but I mean, so simply she's just like brought back I mean the headman are like looking for a new body like Furchton do again, and it's like Spider-Man intervened and that she'll grow and that she whole story I mean that they got their eyes on him.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: They're out for revenge.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: So pretty much just like Ruby, she's the tactile muscle the group here.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's that she's pretty much like holding Chondos head and battle with their hands, and then like using her computer head to like buy your plasma darts again and sprout tentacles get again.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: to restrain both fireman and then the human torch is appearing in this story as well too so he ups team up so.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where she turns her head into a giant fan to try to blow his flame out.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: Which is how the kids do this thing.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna take that yeah.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_02]: What did that just give him more power wind in the air to flame?
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: Hello.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's my blow valve I guess, but you know she's just more for that water would have worked right because she turned her head to water.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean if she I know right do everything else but
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, but you know, it's just pretty much just like one of those like generic like a story line.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: They just end up with an employee or plan their escape.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's pretty slick.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like web as fireman.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's just marvell team up.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: We continue with like sparing man just continuing up with other individuals.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that's basically, I think that's like the gist of her appearance is like, Yeah, yeah.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: So doing with stuff he uses her with a bunch of tech based villains in his deathlock series in 91.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: She gets captured by the mechadool.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a big problem.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: Then we get the early 2000s defenders.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is where the old defenders have had a cursed place on them.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: So whenever there's a deadly threat to the world, they all get zapped from wherever they are to have to go face the threat.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: And the headmen figure this out and find ways to use that for themselves.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then eventually the defenders launch into what they call the order where they try to take over the world.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a lot of fun.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: It pulls in an old Marvel monster called Orgo, the unconscribable.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: So this is Kurt Bucyac and Eric Larson.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: I really enjoyed this series.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_01]: The headmen are back in issue five.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to conquer the world and they do.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: They succeed, Ruby, whereas a trench coat with a little purple polka dot bandana over her red glow.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: But she joins the others in gassing and museum using Chandu's eyes to do so.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then the group steals an artifact, which allows them to control or go the unconscribable.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: And later, when they use or go to control the entire planet, the only people immune to that controller, those that have touched the statue, which happens to be Valkyrie Hellcott and Nighthawk, because they all touch it during the thing.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that's how they end up anyway.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby gets some massive tendrils, and they turn into punching fists and valkyrieses.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot face this freakish woman to make Ruby says, again, but is my head too much for your defender?
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: We've only done.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: My own cranial computer can analyze your fighting methods and counter that movie you make.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: Headmen escape.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: And by issue nine, they are back.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: They get or go the unconscribable.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: They control him and the entire planet is being mined control.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: All the heroes are defeated except for the very few defenders.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: In issue 10, the headmen are using their new power to pursue their individual scientific interests.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, shrunken bones has shrunk down all of his old bullies from high school and he lets lizards eat them.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: Chondus torturing people as he tries to find the perfect body for himself.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're unhinged.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: Ruby, she's connected her head with dozens of wires to the world's most powerful super computers and has begun to float.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: Designing seven dimensional solids
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: world.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, sex girl, you go for it.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: We're here for you.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: The group begins working with MoDoc who is a perfect member of the headman being a giant head.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_01]: But in time, the offenders defeat them and the Orgo Artifact gets destroyed.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: Another fun, my prompt, my favorite image of Ruby is the one where her heads connected to all the super computers from that.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: In 2006, Dan Slot and uses her in, she whole-volume two number 10, where she's driving a yellow convertible getaway car.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: She manifests a giant, a hand from her head, firing a gun at the people pursuing her, but Hellcat and she whole-stop her.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: With the help of Tugan Kid on an atomic steed, and that's kind of all of her appearances until we get to her modern, cameo, Queen's stuff.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: Michael, tell us about her 2007 to 2010 era.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I sure will.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm one quick note and Chad is you going through your part.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like she was an inspiration for Sage in the X-Men world.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know the time frame I believe what happened with your stories was before Sage has created.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: I may be completely wrong on that with extreme X-Men.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we know Testa was around for years, but we didn't do much about her because the whole computer then she just taken it on the information, she can find everything, but we're not really getting into internet.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_02]: yet with her right because that would be more sage we need some internet stuff for ruby we never got there though right one seven-dimensional construct in a three-dimensional world two and other I understand where's the world wide web back in the old days that aside is getting us back together so yes we're gonna do some heroes for higher issues um issues six through seven but she's not Las Vegas anymore right we're out of Vegas but we are now in New York
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: This series is so weird, it's so cheesecakey, it's just like the butts and kicks in girl.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_02]: The visuals too?
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so of course she's with a headman because she can't escape this rope.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean get her individualized, but whatever, she's doing her best.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: So there's this little boy named Billy, they're in New York City, and there's a duet bot.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_02]: He also has humbug.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: Is that really this character's name Humbuh?
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Humbuh is Buckmitty.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's a- he's a little male- I'm very scientific.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, Unguy Spider-Man.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: We go to a meaningful email in this series.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's not super cool or exciting right now.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't find him to be.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, he's there.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_02]: And so is Thurset.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, she ends up capturing him and Billy.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: Her powers now, her heads, sorry.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_02]: She can now and snare and like this goopy, weird, like glue type stuff, like plasma glue.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, hey, why not?
- 57:25[SPEAKER_02]: So she and snares him.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of like this little kid Billy.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's pretty mouthy.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_02]: She's all about you know what if I'm I'm gonna puke this kid does not shut up Oh, and then someone else says oh, I'm not where you could I'm not aware that you can vomit like at you I'm surprised I didn't do it on a daily basis So we're getting more of her one liners We're getting more of her SAS we're getting more of her everybody around me is annoying me and I'm getting vibes So she feels like everybody around her yeah, they're complete idiots
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: Compared to her computer brain, she's not wrong.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: She's with a lot of haphazard people these headmen, right?
- 57:58[SPEAKER_02]: So there are a lot of class with her around.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: Now we're dealing more of these transplanted head situations because this never seems to end.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: So the headmen transplanted Chandu's head on the now humbugs body and humbugs head is in a life support system.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: So he thinks it's a good idea, although, you know, she looks pretty fine in that outfit of hers.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to flirt with her.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_02]: Um, there's a weird panel where it looks like she's pulling the material out of her, her, her, behind.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm just going to read a little bit of this because it's quite, it's quite ridiculous.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: Suit yourself.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_02]: They've been all the way with each other.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_02]: Can, can I get a TV or something to look at?
- 58:31[SPEAKER_02]: Hey Ruby, why don't you do a little strip tease for me?
- 58:34[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, not appropriate.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do no such thing.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_02]: Wretched little pervert head.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: Come on Ruby.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_02]: Show us how sexy you dance.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm killing him.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_02]: Any objectives.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_02]: She's over it, like any objection, like this guy is actually harassing me.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've got bigger things to do.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_02]: There's a long bunch of nonsense.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Shawn cheese here.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it gets killed.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: And they save them, but there's a lot of shit going on.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it goes out of control.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_02]: Shawn, she knocks her head off with his elbow.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: It goes flying.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: Then it goes spider legs and it's running around.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to get into anymore of that because it's out of control, but this book is completely out of control.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: Aubrey ready to move on to Wolverine Origins because you and the world thought this would happen This is the biggest or X-Y lady Ruby Thursday story.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah, I don't understand How any writer would think that she would be the one that Wolverine would go to for the story But okay, why not?
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: How is he ever heard of her?
- 59:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know Her ex-boy from the answer is back.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_02]: I know
- 59:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's out of control and this I'm going to go a little reader's digest version on for those of you of a certain age that means condensed like little book and I don't know if they make that book anymore but readers digest means condensed basically she is in this a lot surprisingly she gets some covers right she doesn't often get in the cover of these comic books and she should because she has a striking visual she's in prison.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and if you want the 10 seconds set up, Wolverine's organs have come out.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: He recognized that Romulus has been manipulating for a long time.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so he's trying to find creative ways to get out or to get back at Romulus who keeps like messing with his shit.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Wolverine works is about.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_01]: You can make it this year.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing a Romulus up.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, this is KBO.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: Wolverine uses Ruby and others in his attempt to get around Romulus.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and she's locked away in this thing called the raft.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_02]: He wants to break her out, so he gets teleported by cloak, because he was just working with a cloak previously.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_02]: So as we know, cloak and teleport people around, how convenient.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_02]: Her outfits slightly different than this one, she has big collar, maybe it's keeping her head steady, because it keeps falling off.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I think.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_02]: but I don't know.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_02]: And she's in jail and she's kind of being a little sassy again with the officer who ever is working at the jail.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_02]: So she's like sitting all sexy across her legs very actually I'm getting a Sharon Stone and basically in the same to visual.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_02]: The legs crossed up.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah sitting there and yeah, so she's talking to the officer and she's basically saying you know what?
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_02]: I know you like looking at me.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_02]: And she's, and the officer says I'm a woman and Ruby says, and this is a prison aka she knows things happen, there are needs that need to get met.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_02]: So, well, well, well, good.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_02]: There's the LGBTQ family community.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know a lot about her, except one thing we do learn about here.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty quickly here.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to get through the Wolverine gets her blah blah blah.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_02]: Ben Romulus gets her.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_02]: She's daughter.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: Romulus wants to basically black black mill her to her Wolverine.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_02]: You go through a lot of that.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_02]: They have a lengthy conversation.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think could have been a little bit shorter.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_02]: Frankly, these issues do seem to drag on as
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_02]: later writing.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_01]: We know what this is, but she's from the far score son of whole, but quite a over Samurai's.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's quite a good.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the good super.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a triple jeopardy kind of thing with Romulus being this novel Ruby's daughter to get her to flip on Wolverine.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_02]: And she does.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_02]: And she does.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_02]: And a really cool fight does happen.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_02]: She uses what looks like photons or lasers.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_02]: She uses all these tentacles.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_02]: She kills Wolverine.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_02]: We're like three, four, five of them through a stomach.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's not going to kill him as we know.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to come back.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_02]: So they had this pretty wild fight.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_02]: And then she does all these darts.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_02]: type things, flying around, shooting the Hulk, shooting everybody around.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_02]: She does a joke about the Hulk and Respader, maybe being in a relationship.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, so she's getting her a little digs in.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_02]: She's getting her LGBTQ comments all around the place in these issues.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, just eventually it's not going to work out for her, right, as we know.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_02]: Silver Samurai comes in and basically they just grab our teleporter back.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_02]: You're done.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_02]: Good bye It's over.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're having a daughter on the island.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_01]: Did she get a child up for adoption?
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: Is it like her big secret secret career over the child?
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_01]: Is this a clone of her the whole time and she really like
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_02]: The impression of her, who's a housewife somewhere, oh, oh, never referenced again.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_02]: Never, but I do I do like that we get a little bit more to her.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_02]: We know she has a daughter and that just makes you think of like the down low like the ability to just download from the head to other bodies, aka cloning and things like that.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, she's there could be many of her out there, not just this potentially one.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_02]: Or it's come probably not, but more it's come maybe.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then Anthony's taking a whole smattering of all her post 2010 appearances.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like she just has a bunch of cameo's in a row.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: So let me toss these at you one at a time.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: We got Avengers Academy 14.1.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's so like like,
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_00]: to be a miss, I mean, so this is pretty much just like following like a mass supervillain breakout at the Manhattan courthouse.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_00]: So the Academy students like with Avengers Academy are all tasked with like rounding the stragglers and for Roopie, like her role is like she more like acts as like a teaching moment for the students like with the storyline.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she box has met, which is a Kelly, Kelly, not, I'm sorry, Kelly Thompson creation and
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_00]: But she does, like, I think, like, we said, like, various sort of language, like, it's like, we two over the competent and metal one of the other students, like, like, punches her head, like, clean off her shoulders and, again, at this time, I mean, like, like, when, like, like, previously, like, killed her or like, like, per-down, I mean, the, she actually, like, crumb, actually picks up her head and like runs away with it.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, and, but then, she, like, giant man, like, at the time, like, stomps on her.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_00]: So, like, true, much just like, end to that storyline.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: and then we proceed like with X-Men Legacy to 75 so like we're in back to X-Men territory.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: So this issue takes place like during like a prison riot like at the superhuman holding facility um between like issues as like I mean, she was most likely like reprimanded um and put back in the raff by like pems heen or whatever I don't know but so it's a prison breakout story.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like so much fun.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean this story in particular a chance should be like special to you because it like that is a team up issue between rogue and your favorite mimic Yeah, yeah, just jumping over to Xman legacy 275.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I mean they're pretty much like they're fine.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm rogue and like a mimic like team up.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's like it's more of like an issue line that develops their story line that a between like their issues are like power mimicers mimic
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_00]: mimic a sea and like how like they relate like to each other and how they like bond with their powers um so but with Ruby centric i mean she's the one who like tells like all the others to be on prisoners like tonight like not actually she actually has like intel like telling them that rogue if she touches any of them she'll give them like a rundown of their power stealing um and she also actually has some great funny lines in there as well like when interacting with rogue who tries to
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I had our official and everyone with range attack and then she tells pretty much leads everyone like to tell Everyone with range attacks like to attack them.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_00]: So she's just gently showing a lot of great like tactile Leading as a field leader.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just pretty much stands like with a with like rogue And in the ride with like a punch and like saying like a speech about redemption and pretty much all of which all the ruby and All the other villains are like forced to listen and so there's a bunch of weird little villains here Yeah, it's still cute
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Avengers Academy appearance.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to point it.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: She could she fights those students like pretty hardcore and at the end And she knocked off and she her body just grabs the head and she runs Yeah, I'm going to skate and it's fine For the first time usually she needs help or yeah someone teleported her away, right?
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then we get another X-Men themed appearance because in a list of vendors Danny Moot stars part of it
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, yeah, that is like quite the storyline.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so like she's back with the had men again and like me and then also they've teamed with the inferior in Chandra's I best Sylvie Langston or a Sylvie not and Mora who is the very much the most far superior in Chandra's I will say
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, their goal is to animate like a giant skull idols in Manhattan, so I mean, so pretty much like I said, like their alliances are definitely an interesting note.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_00]: So basically Ruby, she's just pretty much just like, uh, this is like her, I mean, point where she's a bit more more of a cameo queen and she's more like part of the more of the villainous gathering.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_00]: where they're flying all these female, these great female defenders, I mean it's a great line up with like dying moon star and like valper in them, missing night in them, and it's really a much a high-action issue where rubies headshifting abilities are used like combat, the power sets of the defenders and it really shows like her loyalty, like to that weird science that was established since her debut, too, and then we get it, we get it, we get it in a gambit, title gambit volume five number.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, not really big fan of him personally.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't really that nice to me when I met him.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I had a comment on yours.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_00]: That happens.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, his artwork is glorious in this issue.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Gambit is hotter than ever.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's not my type, but I mean, I this issue, this artwork is phenomenal.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, but basically, I mean, the storyline is like gambit and enters like this like club with no name.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's a that's super villain bar.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, to find a woman to well.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_00]: This is like a whole their storyline that they're doing, but for Ruby, I mean, this is a very much a blink of an as she's not even mentioned my name I mean, she is one of the villains that who is partying at the club originally and like to create distraction Gambit like escapes with Joelle He actually escaped with Joelle who was I guess who's like bond by all the villains She actually um gambit like runs in this Ruby and like charges her cyber and I've had with neck energy and Cause it's too explode in a safe and you
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very much a rough outing for out Ruby, but we know from a previous history, I mean, she could just like get better and download into a new body.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, this matter exploded, she never goes away.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_02]: She's always back playing.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's the floor.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's me.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, by the excited.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's beautiful artwork, so.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then we jump to amazing Spider-Man annual number volume three number one, which is all the beyond corporation craziness, which is weirdly playing out in our X-Men comics these days.
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maxine Danger in the Beyond and Corpus in like X-Force and stomach case X-Men right now.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_01]: Where another character who should join the headmen is here.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Bong.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow.
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take your word for it.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't read the foreign comics.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, in this storyline, it's like what the annual is.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_00]: Just like multiple story lines.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think she appears in the third back up story, which is called.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_00]: quiet room and she's part of like with these groups she's back with the headmen again um but then like I mean they're team up with like odd villains like with the doctor bong like you said like to break into a high-tech quiet room like an ankle or like a chamber um with a goal of like using like the cosmic bong that's I mean crazy to say
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_00]: to just like they want to like trigger like multi universal event.
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean for Ruby Thursday, I mean she's pretty much just like acting as part of the lookout, like work group, while the main plan is being carried out.
- 1:09:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean she has a brief character, brief moment where she pretty much just says like as long as fireman is cracking jokes.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_00]: everything is fine and pretty much just highlights her like very quirky personality but pretty much just like ends with like spiderman coming and foiling their plan like defeating all of the entire group including Ruby Thursday um but he actually he's not actually saying one line but that's the reason why it's because I think he has like learned GIS or something like that so I guess it's just adds like the extra porquiness of the issue but she basically has like a major spotlight.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then her two most recent appearances are in 2016.
- 1:10:32[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't seen her in 10 years.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_01]: 10 years.
- 1:10:35[SPEAKER_01]: She's in Spider Woman Volume 6, number one by Dennis Hopeless, and then in the Power Man Iron Fist Volume 3, number two by David Walker and Sanford.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I mean definitely, I mean I believe like this fireman firewoman issue was a hopeless deflate fantastic writer.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean she's famous appears again like with a small time like crying quartet.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean she's always
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_00]: like shift in around like find like different villain groups to join try find your tribe or chilling we call it we could all relate she's with Griffin and Gibbon who are both just losers I have a given episode out there and then she likes being with us and then she's just like the fan of our own love with her yes high fireman villains up but they say in Ruby's role as I mean they're pretty much just like robbing a place station I mean as you do
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_00]: But it just shows her more as like a mercenary for higher um, and I mean there are pretty much like subdued by like a spiral woman's Prodigy the porky pine so it's basically just like I mean developing another Issue that's like helped like develop for a spiral man fire woman supporting characters and then like you said then we're gonna jump back to a 16 where
- 1:11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we're a loopage Danny Reed, Randy Rand, excuse me, they're pretty much investing in a magical artifact called a super soul stone and Ruby is just like pretty much part of the underworld article of villains trying to stay relevant in Harlem, so pretty much For those that heard my Black Mariah episode, this is Black Mariah and White Jenny with corn rose committing crime
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, those are major sparring carriers in the Luke Cage and Powerman issue.
- 1:12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I need again.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_00]: She's just basically just like Ruby for herself There's just a big a cam.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she's pretty much has like a brief like skirmish
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_00]: with powerband iron fist like using your tentacles again to keep the heroes for high right bay while I navigate full all these like criminals are coming out of them so basically I mean I guess we could say like from like a very recent issues I mean like if a recent like appearances like in the 2010s like with writers like Christophe's gauge and desk helpless I mean they're really leaning into like the body hard that like um
- 1:12:41[SPEAKER_00]: the powers that like how Ruby Thursday gives off.
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because she's like translation from like a serious scientific threat into like more of like a hilarious reoccurring nuance who can like survive decapitation or explosions.
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_00]: So we're pretty much like just making her more of a camp villain.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's an interesting powerhouse of a character and there's a thing that really sings to me about her though is the stuff that makes her unique.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can recognize her anywhere in the back of a crowd, but her feminist agenda of do science and commit crazy crimes and analyze stuff.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of want to see the origin story of her happening that human host body somewhere, and she launched this cloned identity where she, even if she had a secret at home where she's like a happily married woman with a baby.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know how long she's raising?
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she disappears with her like crazy organic head globes sometimes and like goes off on like antics Or she like shares custody of her daughter.
- 1:13:38[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever her daughter is there.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_01]: She's playing happy homemaker But then her daughter is off with her co-parent.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_01]: She's like she's out committing crimes.
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Is this present?
- 1:13:45[SPEAKER_02]: What are they doing?
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_02]: She's a prison
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's some really interesting things, but the feminist icon, the camp of it all, and then she's definitely a horror character above Seeing her in any kind of feature, girl, I think is fun, but she has big villain potential and then can be a potential This character gives such feminine vibes.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's the deep V's and the boobs out that made me think of the two of you
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_02]: But she thinks that is a compliment all the way so Ruby Ruby Ruby so I will say which is very common for Talks about comic book characters that are underused is the waste of potential right she's a super genius She's a scientist really and she should be leading teams right and instead she always seems to be you know with the headmen or other people
- 1:14:30[SPEAKER_02]: Can't get it together and that are lackeys, you know what I mean?
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's like she could be doing so much more with her super intelligence.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_02]: She could be like a sage, like I mentioned earlier, right?
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's so much potential because she's so smart.
- 1:14:43[SPEAKER_02]: We have many characters in it.
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_02]: It seems to typically be female characters who are, quote, overpowered, right?
- 1:14:50[SPEAKER_02]: Her head can do anything.
- 1:14:51[SPEAKER_02]: She's a genius who then writers don't know what to do anything with.
- 1:14:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_02]: So they really start focusing on her genius and all the things she could do.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_02]: But then like, uh, we don't know how to develop that or we need to knock her out all the time or with her.
- 1:15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Take her head off all the time and then she's gone and almost almost has like an element of like Cassandra know it to her.
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's like an efficiency to her evil.
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, she's she doesn't care for male chauvinists and she's not out for revenge.
- 1:15:15[SPEAKER_01]: She just wants to do her shit.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, cause I don't know the one.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_01]: But do you know what I mean?
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, make the world easier for her first and foremost, but make it efficient.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I definitely get that.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_02]: And that would be a computer brain, right?
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like cut out all the nonsense, get things done, move forward.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Now moving forward to the what?
- 1:15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Is the question and it's always bad things because she's evil and maniacal, but she is efficient.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I mean, they're like, I agree with you, Michael.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she definitely has a lot of ways to potential, like, I mean, like, she's like, propped up, like, in her initial appearance is like, one, like, she's actually like a rival or like a peer, like, like, to re-richers as, like, one, like, to sparse people in the, in the Marvel universe of the time.
- 1:15:55[SPEAKER_00]: just seems like she became more of a mercenary or just like that villain of the like the week that we're not looking for but I mean I she's definitely like I mean like said she's pretty much like if we want to say like her keep in her current can and she puts that head in the headmen I mean she's been blown up punch off her shoulders
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_00]: make me charge my gambit and that one gambit, but she always bounces back.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if there's one thing we've learned today, it's that you can't keep a good woman down.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, especially when her head is like pretty much essentially, um, module, um, peripheral.
- 1:16:24[SPEAKER_00]: So she gives definitely, I have to say it.
- 1:16:27[SPEAKER_00]: She gives the best head of the Marble James.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I mean, I mean, she'll probably provide her own head, whenever I write her needs, like a good striking visual or a background can, you know, so they shall have that up for reputation at this point in a marble history until like some other like marble, marble, wider shepherd's her, like for a mixed storyline, but
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_01]: In our X-Men books, her fighting robes fun, the whole Wolverine plot line is fun.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see her.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like the beast goes out on a date and falls in love.
- 1:16:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's the reveal.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's revealed.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's revealed today.
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_01]: But do you think I would love to be here and react with more than anyone is a date danger?
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like the, like, yeah.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hi guys.
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_01]: There are things and there's like a united goal.
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's some interesting potential.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I like the big lot.
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_01]: She makes me smile.
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_01]: She's fun.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_01]: The two of you make me smile as well.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to hear in a final thoughts.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to put this out in mid May.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_01]: Follow the show at Green Walk and Under Scorling on Instagram.
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_01]: Over on the main show, the next episode you can watch for is.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're going superfeminism, 1970's Miss Marble number one featuring the boys.
- 1:17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Ending a month with the trial of the Wasp.
- 1:17:32[SPEAKER_01]: And over here on this channel, you can also watch for episodes featuring vapor from the UFOs, tattoo from Quentin Quires Omega Gang, and the leper queen from the human safety and league, or whatever they get those fuckers are called.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_01]: We have some weird conversations this month.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_01]: David Miller.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_02]: David Miller.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_01]: David Miller.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_01]: David Miller.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_02]: David Miller.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so you can find me.
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'll just stick with Instagram, so we'll do m-w-a-n-d-r-s-4-m-w-n-d-s-4-m-w-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d-s-n-d
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_02]: come on over to Age of Dazzler and Facebook because again, it's the most positive place on the internet, right Anthony?
- 1:18:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's right.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_02]: What else, fun I thought?
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_02]: So what I would like to see happen for Ruby in the future is I would like to see, you know, Chad, what you were saying.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see her real life.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to see her have a whole warehouse of body duplicates that she can keep putting her head on.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to see her do some more undercover work because she can change her looks for features.
- 1:18:31[SPEAKER_02]: She can probably change that body if she wants.
- 1:18:34[SPEAKER_02]: get it down Ruby.
- 1:18:35[SPEAKER_01]: I just had an idea.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so the answer tracks for down and we discover that her daughter is actually like a little clone version of her.
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a little girl with another little red old for a head.
- 1:18:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, why not?
- 1:18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I love it so much.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_01]: See, we have to make this happen.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, just like I say, I mean, like this is like a cost, I'm sure I don't know if this has been cosplayed before or if I mean, like we need like a friend of the pod demand and martini like to do a great like cosplay that not like I mean, like, I mean, I mean, not like I could do a like ethical looks sync with that that log, but I mean, I mean, just the visual itself is like waiting to be cosplayed, but I
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but for me, I mean, like you can find me on my Instagram at a brood of Kirk.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Um, really don't post as much these days, just because like with like, I tried on to visit with my professional position.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but if you need to, I do post like mostly it's all poor geez and like other.
