- 0:12Speaker 1: World famous Kingpin, the world famous Royce Monroe is.
- 0:15Speaker 3: In the building.
- 0:16Speaker 4: What they do.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Somebody got a book out. I got a book out, man.
- 0:21Speaker 5: February twenty fifth, drop is yay, yo, you are your
- 0:23Speaker 5: own industry. Because you gotta realize you don't get you
- 0:26Speaker 5: merging man.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It says on the back how to adjoin the Illuminati.
- 0:31Speaker 2: What you have to do.
- 0:32Speaker 5: I'm just all right sacrifice before before you get into
- 0:37Speaker 5: these heated conversations.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I wanted to first give you both my flowers.
- 0:41Speaker 6: Kingpin, Uh, you already know I love you, Love you
- 0:44Speaker 6: to death, love your family, love your wife. One of
- 0:48Speaker 6: the biggest unknown superheroes that are known behind the scenes.
- 0:55Speaker 6: If you need your uh, if you need help getting monetized,
- 0:58Speaker 6: if you need help doing anything, He's an army Swiss knife.
- 1:02Speaker 6: I've learned from him all the time. I just wanted
- 1:05Speaker 6: to tell you that I.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Love you, brother, think you very much. People need to
- 1:08Speaker 4: hear that because they were like, man, what happened to
- 1:09Speaker 4: the podcast? Like people grow back on the radio doing
- 1:12Speaker 4: the ball and they're taking over the airwaves doing something special.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Wendy just went and got the eye surgery. She's building
- 1:17Speaker 4: the incubator programs. She's doing something special, and we're doing
- 1:20Speaker 4: something special as well. So I appreciate the flowers.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:22Speaker 4: It's important for the people to know that we still communicate.
- 1:25Speaker 4: We talk almost every week still and we still continue.
- 1:27Speaker 1: To and the glue behind the scenes for Generation Now.
- 1:31Speaker 6: People may not even know that Generation Now, which is
- 1:33Speaker 6: a DJ drama lake Don Cannon ran label the GM
- 1:40Speaker 6: who Now has a book out on the way.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Amazon. It's in the street, it's in the trunk, it's everywhere.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You feel me your knowledge on the industry. You've been
- 1:50Speaker 1: in the industry me and you've been in.
- 1:52Speaker 6: The trenches together, floors, all types of ship on the road.
- 1:57Speaker 4: You know what they say, if you want to if
- 1:59Speaker 4: you want to keep a secret, put it in a book.
- 2:01Speaker 3: For sure.
- 2:01Speaker 4: This is like, this is the secret revealed.
- 2:04Speaker 5: It really is, because it's it's unlike things like you know,
- 2:08Speaker 5: books that just give you a bunch of random information.
- 2:09Speaker 5: This is literally a guide to where once you finish
- 2:11Speaker 5: the sixteen chapters, you're ready to have money received, like
- 2:15Speaker 5: you're loving to have your furnishing company. You're ready to
- 2:18Speaker 5: implement a roll out of marketing strategy like whatever it takes,
- 2:20Speaker 5: because you are your own industry.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Okay, thank you for saying that. That is the perfect segue.
- 2:27Speaker 6: King PANDAM starting with you, sir, Sorry to get you
- 2:29Speaker 6: riled up some early in the episode. What are some
- 2:32Speaker 6: things that frustrates you that artists do with their rollout?
- 2:38Speaker 4: Eighty seven percent of all music on Spotify is not
- 2:41Speaker 4: monetized because it doesn't have a thousand streams. That's three
- 2:44Speaker 4: streams a day. Eighty seven percent of the one hundred
- 2:49Speaker 4: and thirty five thousand records totally released every day, right,
- 2:52Speaker 4: eighty seven percent of that music is not monetized. But
- 2:55Speaker 4: the money that's collected is forty seven million dollars worth
- 2:58Speaker 4: of revenue. So the number one pet peeve that most
- 3:01Speaker 4: artists overdo is overlook the business of music in exchange
- 3:05Speaker 4: for the stardom of popularity. And I think their desire
- 3:10Speaker 4: whether you're an influencer, a DJ company owner. I was
- 3:14Speaker 4: just thinking on the way over here, like can you
- 3:15Speaker 4: really be a record label owner if you don't have
- 3:18Speaker 4: a staff, like Can you really own a record label
- 3:23Speaker 4: if you don't have people that know what it is?
- 3:25Speaker 4: We were talking about it before the camera came on actionables,
- 3:28Speaker 4: and you can have a bunch of people that know
- 3:29Speaker 4: the technical side of the music industry, but how many
- 3:33Speaker 4: of them know how to put that into real world situations.
- 3:35Speaker 4: How many people are going to graduate this year with
- 3:37Speaker 4: a degree in music business but don't know how to
- 3:40Speaker 4: merge profiles, don't know how to do a catalog, or
- 3:42Speaker 4: that don't know how to do publishing.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Stop right there, I want to tag you back in.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Come on.
- 3:46Speaker 6: The best thing that ever happened to me and the
- 3:48Speaker 6: worst thing ever happened to me. I got a job
- 3:50Speaker 6: at Warner Records. I love the knowledge that I gained
- 3:53Speaker 6: from it. I hated it only from the I hated
- 3:57Speaker 6: it because I didn't get there sooner. I wish I
- 4:00Speaker 6: did that in my early twenties.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I could have.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Evolved a lot differently, right because I'm already Ferrari when
- 4:06Speaker 6: I get there, But I'm in the beginner type of
- 4:08Speaker 6: job description. And back to Y'm gonna take you back in.
- 4:11Speaker 6: I realized a record label runs with the staff. So
- 4:17Speaker 6: if you're trying to put out a song, any type
- 4:20Speaker 6: of music, you need a.
- 4:23Speaker 7: Staff, a team, and the staff has a staff. There's
- 4:27Speaker 7: a department here, there's a department there. That department has
- 4:31Speaker 7: a boss. That department has a boss. That department boss
- 4:34Speaker 7: talks to that department's boss.
- 4:36Speaker 1: They have a meeting on Thursday. That department has a
- 4:38Speaker 1: department boss. That department has a boss.
- 4:40Speaker 6: They talk on Wednesday, talks on Monday.
- 4:44Speaker 8: Real infrastructure, right for something that might not work, for
- 4:49Speaker 8: something that the time doesn't work.
- 4:51Speaker 5: But no, it's what it is. Strategic Now, whether it
- 4:57Speaker 5: works is based on consumer consumption.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Here we go right, you know.
- 5:02Speaker 4: And on the flip side of that, I say, a
- 5:05Speaker 4: lot of the people that are in position to help
- 5:07Speaker 4: navigate some of these treacherous waters for these artists are
- 5:11Speaker 4: are not versed or not prepared or equipped, should I say,
- 5:15Speaker 4: to do a great job for these artists. We just
- 5:17Speaker 4: did an episode on the Uncut game podcast Shameless Plug,
- 5:20Speaker 4: and we did the.
- 5:21Speaker 1: First two times for OG.
- 5:24Speaker 4: In our first two episodes, one of them we did
- 5:26Speaker 4: an audit. It was round Rolling Loud weekend when it
- 5:28Speaker 4: was like we're gonna drop this, let's just do it.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So one of the first two episodes We did an
- 5:32Speaker 4: audit on Jello because he had an amazing, rolling loud
- 5:35Speaker 4: performance and premiered some new music, so I wanted to
- 5:37Speaker 4: see how that turned out for him. And then we
- 5:39Speaker 4: did an audit on Asap Rocky, which is a powerhouses.
- 5:42Speaker 4: You know, Flock was a legend in hip hop right now,
- 5:44Speaker 4: Ben it got the baddest woman in the game everything,
- 5:46Speaker 4: And I wanted to compare some of those guys moments,
- 5:49Speaker 4: and you guys would have been underwhelmed. You guys would
- 5:51Speaker 4: have been super unimpressed with the way that the things
- 5:53Speaker 4: were handled for them in particular. And I say them
- 5:56Speaker 4: because one is a megastar athlete that has crossed over
- 6:02Speaker 4: the thresholds climb to the top of the mountain. He
- 6:04Speaker 4: just got certified gold on his single right the Tweaker
- 6:07Speaker 4: just went I shot the Hoty grow up and posting
- 6:09Speaker 4: that up. The song with Glorilla was going crazy. The
- 6:12Speaker 4: can you please? Right with Black Pack Radio, it's actually
- 6:15Speaker 4: replaced the Tweaker on radio right now and Mike showing
- 6:17Speaker 4: everything else, so it's doing what it's supposed to do.
- 6:20Speaker 4: But where was the information? Where is the pre save links,
- 6:24Speaker 4: where is the where's all the calls? To action. Where's
- 6:26Speaker 4: the merchandise? Where's then you look at Asap Rocky And
- 6:29Speaker 4: when he'd had his amazing Rolling Loud performance fill from
- 6:32Speaker 4: a helicopter, the links in his bio were all broken.
- 6:36Speaker 4: We didn't buy the album. You couldn't pre order anything
- 6:38Speaker 4: like ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children and women
- 6:40Speaker 4: of all shapes and sizes were bleeding pennies. We're bleeding
- 6:44Speaker 4: pennies and we don't understand because nobody around you bothered
- 6:47Speaker 4: to look at the link in your bio and say, hey, hey, flock,
- 6:50Speaker 4: oh this link is broken. Bro, this don't take you
- 6:53Speaker 4: nowhere before you go hang out of the helicopter. And
- 6:56Speaker 4: what about the merchandise? He wore a shirt that he
- 6:58Speaker 4: had on Rolling Loud two years prior, So I'm not
- 7:00Speaker 4: trying to nitpick at him. I'm just saying the teams
- 7:02Speaker 4: around some of these artists are not doing a good
- 7:05Speaker 4: enough job of executing at a high level, and that's
- 7:08Speaker 4: because most of them don't understand the business of music.
- 7:12Speaker 4: A lot of opportunities, a lot of missed opportunities, and
- 7:15Speaker 4: believe it or not, in the music business, you're not
- 7:18Speaker 4: gonna make every shot shooting get back on defense, shooting,
- 7:22Speaker 4: get back on defense. That's why you have a team
- 7:24Speaker 4: around you. Some of those people are the center. Some
- 7:26Speaker 4: of those people are the power forward. Some of those
- 7:28Speaker 4: people is their job to fight underneath the rim, to
- 7:30Speaker 4: get the rebound, to give it back to you so
- 7:32Speaker 4: you could take another high percentage shot, right, Because that's
- 7:35Speaker 4: what it is. It's lowing yourself and your limitation. So
- 7:39Speaker 4: if what artists can or can't do, my brother, I'm
- 7:41Speaker 4: sure they need to get this book because sixteen chapters.
- 7:44Speaker 4: If they do a chapter a week, that's four months.
- 7:47Speaker 4: That's research. That's less than a school semester.
- 7:50Speaker 5: The thing about it though, even in describing the team,
- 7:53Speaker 5: there's your business team and then there's your team team.
- 7:55Speaker 5: So a lot of times a lot of artists until
- 7:57Speaker 5: they hit like the independent status of like say like
- 7:59Speaker 5: how Whiskey's independent right now, they don't have their team.
- 8:03Speaker 5: They have their appointed people from the team that they're
- 8:05Speaker 5: signed to, right So the personal integrity sometimes is missing
- 8:10Speaker 5: in the mission. Because for the money that you're talking
- 8:12Speaker 5: about missing the label of pick it up, it doesn't
- 8:15Speaker 5: change their salary, so it doesn't influence their bottom line.
- 8:18Speaker 5: So that's another reason it's important for an artist to
- 8:20Speaker 5: become their own industry.
- 8:21Speaker 8: Basically, now, rouis what is your biggest pet peeve in
- 8:24Speaker 8: the industry?
- 8:25Speaker 3: Lack of education.
- 8:27Speaker 5: It's the same reason why I wrote the book, because
- 8:30Speaker 5: everybody engages in all the fun stuff to making the music.
- 8:33Speaker 5: They're coming out here, getting attention, buying shiny stuff and
- 8:35Speaker 5: all that good stuff, but no one knows what they're doing.
- 8:38Speaker 5: They just they record the song and want to put
- 8:40Speaker 5: out the art. They're not understanding that the producer, the writers,
- 8:43Speaker 5: everybody needs to be compensated.
- 8:45Speaker 2: The point system is and all that stuff.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Everything like your attorney sometimes is more important or as
- 8:51Speaker 5: important as your engineer, because they're both guiding the product
- 8:54Speaker 5: and the direction of the value of the monetary result.
- 8:57Speaker 3: It's important. So education has been the biggest area opportun
- 9:00Speaker 3: I see.
- 9:01Speaker 8: Now, what is the what do y'all feel like? What
- 9:05Speaker 8: breaks records nowadays? Because I hear some people sayd DJ
- 9:09Speaker 8: still break records, and then I just seeing an interview
- 9:12Speaker 8: where uh Nardo Wicks said that TikTok breaks records.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Now it's a combination, in my opinion, of social currency
- 9:20Speaker 5: and the actual industry. So you need the DJ and
- 9:23Speaker 5: you need the streamer. The streamer is gonna it's going
- 9:26Speaker 5: to tune you in with the person, and then the
- 9:28Speaker 5: DJ is going to tune you in with the music
- 9:29Speaker 5: because a lot of times the artist is not the
- 9:31Speaker 5: vehicle that's carrying the music. Like even with Jello, it's like, yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 5: he got his notoriety or whatnot, But because of that notoriety,
- 9:39Speaker 5: it puts certain eyes on a record. So when you
- 9:41Speaker 5: think about that record, you're thinking about just the moment
- 9:43Speaker 5: that you're hearing.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And it helps. His brothers are both NBA stars.
- 9:48Speaker 5: To me, it goes back to where it was prior
- 9:50Speaker 5: to like digital music. It's like, if you were a celebrity,
- 9:54Speaker 5: they did the whole gamut with you. You got endorsements, you
- 9:57Speaker 5: put out a record, you did everything, even if he
- 9:58Speaker 5: was like a football star or or whatever the case was.
- 10:01Speaker 5: So in today's time, it's like the industry shifting back
- 10:04Speaker 5: to who has social currency and who can we put
- 10:08Speaker 5: a product out through.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Nothing in this business works alone, So there's no one
- 10:14Speaker 4: thing that it takes to break a record. Breaking a
- 10:16Speaker 4: record is a variety of things. It starts off organically
- 10:19Speaker 4: in your neighborhood, the DJs locally in your city, have
- 10:22Speaker 4: a hot record, and they're the ones to tell you,
- 10:23Speaker 4: hey man, you got to get this to so and so,
- 10:25Speaker 4: and they personally take it. I've seen you Ferrari. I've
- 10:27Speaker 4: seen a lot of the different DJs take records locally,
- 10:30Speaker 4: bring them in and be like, we have to help
- 10:31Speaker 4: this record grow, and then that record travels to other
- 10:33Speaker 4: pds and mds. Then the radio promoter gets involved and
- 10:36Speaker 4: then all the bells and whistles and the machine starts
- 10:38Speaker 4: to roll. Make no mistake about it that when a
- 10:41Speaker 4: record breaks and it gets over to it had a
- 10:42Speaker 4: lot of organic buzz. The artists have failed to work
- 10:46Speaker 4: for the fans. They think they work for the label,
- 10:48Speaker 4: so they don't want to create content because they think
- 10:50Speaker 4: it's lame. You're working for your fans and unless you're
- 10:54Speaker 4: a good point. Engagement is what leads to monetization activity.
- 10:58Speaker 4: You have to be productive. I have to engage and
- 11:00Speaker 4: post on social media in order to trigger some of
- 11:03Speaker 4: those monetizations. Breaking news right today, YouTube announced that they
- 11:07Speaker 4: were unrolling rolling out the dubbing feature for all YouTube
- 11:11Speaker 4: paid partner programs. That means that just because you have
- 11:13Speaker 4: a little check mark on your page, you don't get
- 11:15Speaker 4: that feature. You have to have the benchmark ten thousand subscribers,
- 11:19Speaker 4: are a thousand subscribers, three thousand watch hours. And then
- 11:21Speaker 4: once you become a monetized partner with them, now you
- 11:24Speaker 4: can have your podcast in forty languages or whatever it is.
- 11:27Speaker 4: These are all the different things that are available to
- 11:29Speaker 4: you once you monetize. Most artists will never monetize. The
- 11:34Speaker 4: bigger the artists, the lazier they are with it, because
- 11:36Speaker 4: they've gotten fat and successful off of being manipulated and
- 11:39Speaker 4: taken advantage of. So why disrupt the system. I still
- 11:42Speaker 4: get my little change. And then you got the people
- 11:44Speaker 4: that sit in there and say, oh, I live in
- 11:45Speaker 4: a car. Things are going bad for me. Things are
- 11:47Speaker 4: bad for everybody right now. This economy, tariffs, tariffs got
- 11:50Speaker 4: the economy jammed up.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Baby, Everything about everything is bad everything.
- 11:55Speaker 4: How as an artist do you think you're gonna sell
- 11:57Speaker 4: what you don't own in a climate when everything that
- 12:01Speaker 4: you're creating you're training a computer to do for you.
- 12:04Speaker 4: You're logging on the chat GPT and you're giving it
- 12:06Speaker 4: your ideas and you're asking it to come up with
- 12:08Speaker 4: the best plan possible. And then two weeks later, an
- 12:11Speaker 4: io platform pops up. What happens when you train one AI,
- 12:14Speaker 4: it trains other ais. And you don't own these properties,
- 12:18Speaker 4: these ideas, these sounds that you're uploading to these platforms.
- 12:21Speaker 4: You're doing yourself a disservice because you're bleeding pennies at
- 12:24Speaker 4: artists revenue solutions. That was the thing we prided ourselves with.
- 12:27Speaker 4: We wanted to help artists earn revenue from their art.
- 12:32Speaker 4: And that's what most people in this business. They know
- 12:34Speaker 4: how they can make money, not how the artist makes money.
- 12:37Speaker 8: I want to ask a question, Rry Royce, do you
- 12:41Speaker 8: think that streamers are becoming bigger than rappers?
- 12:46Speaker 5: I'm not gonna say for sure, they're more profitable and
- 12:51Speaker 5: more influential than rappers. I don't think they're replacing rappers
- 12:56Speaker 5: to a certain degree because organically, you know.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I think so, Why do you think that?
- 13:01Speaker 8: The reason why I think that is because it kind
- 13:04Speaker 8: of stems from what king Pin said. The streamers are
- 13:09Speaker 8: more relatable. These big artists are not relatable. They're not
- 13:13Speaker 8: interacting with fans. They don't even want to talk to fans.
- 13:15Speaker 8: They don't even they don't even want to have a conversation.
- 13:17Speaker 5: With a fast streamer is talking to people. But see
- 13:21Speaker 5: the thing, people make them big. We've taken rappers and
- 13:24Speaker 5: we don't deem them as artists. We deem them as rappers, right,
- 13:27Speaker 5: and so that's the problem right there. Everything that you're
- 13:30Speaker 5: describing with being relatable, so on and so forth. These
- 13:32Speaker 5: are just qualities that we have to instill in the
- 13:35Speaker 5: artists because developments missing, that doesn't happen. So now a generation.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Now, something we pride ourselves on is that we get
- 13:42Speaker 3: our acts ready for.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Some y'all do.
- 13:44Speaker 8: Y'all do build y'all artists from the ground up. When
- 13:46Speaker 8: you look at the all the artists that have.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Recently came for directions, but everybody is a superstar. But
- 13:51Speaker 5: at the same time, it's it's the humbleness. It's like
- 13:53Speaker 5: he says, it's like they're lazy to a certain degree
- 13:56Speaker 5: because you don't understand that you're you're always learning. As
- 13:59Speaker 5: soon as you get in the d we're back at
- 14:00Speaker 5: day one. Whatever however long you was working to get
- 14:02Speaker 5: to this deal Erase all that time that you think
- 14:04Speaker 5: you've already put in, because now it's time to put
- 14:06Speaker 5: in this new time. Like we first signed an artist,
- 14:08Speaker 5: you put them in the studio for six months to
- 14:10Speaker 5: a year, so you can get whatever's in you out,
- 14:12Speaker 5: so now we can focus on making the musion.
- 14:14Speaker 2: So why would the artists get the money They ready
- 14:15Speaker 2: to lead the label.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Because they think they have it figured out, They think
- 14:20Speaker 4: they have the solution to it. They think that because
- 14:22Speaker 4: they're the goose that lays the golden eggs, that they
- 14:24Speaker 4: deserve to get fed something different before they lay the
- 14:26Speaker 4: golden egg. No, you're going to get put in another
- 14:28Speaker 4: pen and you're gonna get fed more crap and keep
- 14:31Speaker 4: laying golden eggs. The day you can't lay golden eggs,
- 14:33Speaker 4: you will be replaced with another goose that could lay gold.
- 14:38Speaker 5: What people forget is that brand association is what leads
- 14:40Speaker 5: to growth. Right, So as soon as you disassociate yourself
- 14:43Speaker 5: from this brand that's already established at a certain level,
- 14:46Speaker 5: you're gonna see a gradual decline in how notable all
- 14:50Speaker 5: your little moves are because they gonna keep doing the
- 14:52Speaker 5: same type of moves. But you don't you take the
- 14:54Speaker 5: fame with you. But you gotta get the fame first
- 14:56Speaker 5: until you million dollar superstar person.
- 14:59Speaker 3: It's like it could a always fall.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Through one thousand streams, is what you need to monetize
- 15:03Speaker 4: on Spotify. One thousand subscribers is what you need to
- 15:06Speaker 4: monetize on YouTube, and that should be your barometer. Fifty
- 15:10Speaker 4: sixty Hoodies sixty fifty five dollars. Hoodies makes you as
- 15:13Speaker 4: much money as a platinum record will in royalties. Not
- 15:17Speaker 4: having your business together is costing you more than anything
- 15:21Speaker 4: else that you could be spending or investing in your
- 15:22Speaker 4: money in right now. Not having your business together, not
- 15:25Speaker 4: having access to the stuff that you need, prohibits you
- 15:28Speaker 4: from doing the things that you want to do so
- 15:29Speaker 4: that you can see the most out of it. Until
- 15:31Speaker 4: that happens, anybody that has their business together will do
