It's still welcome. Everybody. Welcome to this week's edition as Still Real does
• 0:20
show episode number seven and fifty one for July fourth, twenty twenty four.
• 0:25
This is your aw and New Japan Forbid Indoor Recap and Review and Wily Money
• 0:30
to Bank and nx WA Preview and Predictions edition of s RT You I am
• 0:37
one after the show, I am Joe pack joined every single week my host,
• 0:41
going only, Doctor Trey Franklin, Doctor Trey. Happy fourth of July,
• 0:45
my friend, Happy fourth of July, my friend. I hope,
• 0:48
uh, you know, being a new dad, I hope all your fingers
• 0:50
stay intact. I hope that for everybody. That's my wish for everybody this
• 0:54
Happy fourth is celebrate freedom Jesus. I guess if that's your thing, and
• 1:00
just make sure all your fingers stay in tagged. I literally came across the
• 1:03
store yesterday that said we were closing early on the fourth to allow our employees
• 1:10
to time with their families and to worship. And I didn't know what people
• 1:14
worship on the fourth of July, so I'm a little confused by that sign
• 1:18
I saw in a store America. Huh, that's what we worship. My
• 1:23
initials are JP, not JPP. So so far so good, fingers are
• 1:27
intact, hopefully you know that's still you know, not too soon that joke.
• 1:33
That's a deep cut joke. You really have to be a fan of
• 1:37
the NFL to get the JPP reference there. Well, see if anybody got
• 1:42
it. I know there's a lot of wrestling fans, a lot of folks
• 1:45
overseas that enjoy European football. I highly doubt there's a percentage of this podcast
• 1:52
that was like, what the hell is he talking about? Yeah? What
• 1:53
what does he mean there? So nonetheless, happy fourth of July for those
• 1:57
here in America. We are recording this the morning of July fourth, before
• 2:02
we kick off all of our fest festivities. Go out to barbecues. No
• 2:06
firework show for me, because I got a little one now. I don't
• 2:08
want to lose his hearing. I would rather that hip hop music does that.
• 2:13
Once he starts listening to, you know, is beat by dre headphones
• 2:15
that he'll get I don't know, like two three years old, because that's
• 2:17
what kids are doing nowadays. So lots of wrestling to DISCUSSI actually something I
• 2:23
did not share with Doctor Trey pre show. I know, I promoted on
• 2:27
last week's podcast that we were going to look at our first half of the
• 2:30
year awards. This is such a fully loaded show that I want to give
• 2:35
it ample time. So we're actually going to do that in two weeks,
• 2:38
which will take us to July eighteenth. Right now, there's just so many
• 2:42
pay per views and p l's going on with Forbidden Door and running the Bank
• 2:46
heat Wave that we're going to focus on that this week and of course next
• 2:50
week, and then in two weeks time again we'll look at the first half
• 2:53
of the year for twenty twenty four, which is mind boggling to think,
• 2:57
and our typical awards that we hand out the leading candidates right now, So
• 3:00
a little programming note on this week's edition of the podcast, So let's get
• 3:05
right into it. Doctor Trey aw Knew Japan for bid into our twenty twenty
• 3:08
four recap and review. This came to us this past Sunday from the UBS
• 3:13
Arena in Long Island, New York. The first match on the pre show
• 3:15
was Kyle Fret Fletcher defeating Sirpentco. I'm not sure what to say about this
• 3:21
one. It was a three minute match. I really liked the upside of
• 3:23
Kyle Fletcher and liked he got a spotlight during all of the will Osprey stuff
• 3:28
over the weekend and on Dynamite this past Wednesday, we were talking off air
• 3:32
about Kyle Fletcher oddly enough, and he got the victory over Sir Pettico in
• 3:37
three minutes. Yeah, and you had to kind of be a really hardcore
• 3:39
aw fan to realize he was no longer the Ring of Honor Telvision Champion as
• 3:44
well, like that, Oh, I had no idea until they said it.
• 3:46
Yeah, and I was like, oh, that's right, that he
• 3:49
lost it, like on a non televised event. I believe he lost it
• 3:53
at CMLL, then I believe two nights before Yeah, and that totally threw
• 3:57
me off and I'm like, wait, didn't he have a belt or something?
• 4:00
And then as I had to read it, I'm like, oh,
• 4:00
he lost it and they didn't really even talk about it. So maybe that's
• 4:04
why he's kind of getting the rub now because he doesn't have it hanging over.
• 4:09
But yeah, for a three minute match. Like, I'm a big
• 4:12
fan of Kyle Fletcher. I think he's got a lot of potential. Sir
• 4:15
Pensico is just that, you know, I feel bad for the guy.
• 4:18
I don't think he's want to match in like two years, and his tag
• 4:21
team partner became a butler for crying out loud, So not a whole lot
• 4:26
for him to do right now, So not a great match. It's just
• 4:30
kind of way to showcase Kyle Fletcher considering the four day period they had planned
• 4:33
for him, so a good way for him to start for the show.
• 4:36
At least. Next match year is King's of the Black Throne defeating Tomo heir
• 4:41
Is She and Kyle O'Riley, Roger Strong and Gabe Kid and Private Party in
• 4:45
a four way tag team match. We did not predict this one. We
• 4:47
also did not predict Kyle Fletcher and Serpentaco. My notes from this one is,
• 4:51
dear professional wrestling companies, please do something with your tag team divisions.
• 4:58
Also, I feel like we are on the ver of Gabe Kid being a
• 5:00
breakout star, a big star in professional wrestling. Everything about him screams top
• 5:05
level talent to me. He is an exciting young talent that I really have
• 5:09
enjoyed watching on AW television last couple of weeks. I've read about him,
• 5:13
seen his stuff from New Japan. I'm a fan of his Doctor Trey.
• 5:16
Your thoughts on the four way tag team match, Yeah, just like when
• 5:20
you look at it, you're going, man, these these guys, you
• 5:23
know, all these tag teams can kind of go, and they're on the
• 5:25
pre show in a four way, which means they basically had nothing for anybody
• 5:28
to do, so let's throw them all on a match. You know,
• 5:31
House of Black. Those guys are always fantastic. I like Gabe Kid because
• 5:34
at first, when I heard his name, I thought Axiom had affected somehow
• 5:38
and added three letters to a kid to make him gave kid. But no,
• 5:43
this guy's a little a little bit bigger and has a little more potential
• 5:46
than a kids. So yeah, it's just kind of a fun little throwaway
• 5:50
match for AW, which just makes me also go, crap, this is
• 5:55
gonna be a five hour pay per view, isn't it. So the next
• 5:59
match here, well, Willow Nightingale and Tom Nakano defeat Chris stat Lander,
• 6:02
Momo Wanton Abby. We both had Willow and Nakano and this one Willow and
• 6:06
stant Lander's feud has been a really bright spot, really big bride spot in
• 6:11
the AW women's division and a great blueprint for how a feud and build to
• 6:15
a match should go. They had their match on Wednesday's Dynamite. Two things
• 6:18
from that one. If you have not gone out of your go out of
• 6:21
your way. If you've not seen yet, Willow Nightingale's promo heading into that
• 6:25
match was to me amazing. I loved it. It was Dusty Rhodes type
• 6:32
vibes for me, a working man, son of a plumber type vibes to
• 6:38
it. I love that promo, Go out of your way and again see
• 6:41
it. The match itself with Chris stat Lander and the Women's Owen Heart Cup
• 6:46
tournament was a little bit lacklustered, a little bit short on time, but
• 6:50
I've really enjoyed this feud doctor Tray between Willow and christat Landler. Yeah,
• 6:56
I've enjoyed the feud as well. I actually kind of liked this match too,
• 6:59
because it's like, these two women have a few going on, and
• 7:01
there's two other random Japanese superstars thrown into the matches. You're kind of like,
• 7:06
I almost felt bad for the two other women because they really had no
• 7:10
bill or storyline in this match, But the tag matches that wasn't bad.
• 7:13
The dynam of the promo and dynam I was really well done. The matches
• 7:16
of Your Right Well, I thought was lackluster. But and I really hate
• 7:20
Willow's not a small girl. And I really hate when they have bigger babyfaces
• 7:25
win with a roll up because it doesn't really settle anything. So obviously to
• 7:30
me, that means the few is gonna continue. This is a way for
• 7:32
Willow to move on in the tournament. But yeah, for a match you've
• 7:35
been kind of building into, building up too to have the baby face win
• 7:39
with a roll up and she's as big as or if not bigger than her
• 7:43
opponent. I really hate those things. But for this pay re view,
• 7:46
a really fun women's tag match that basically was just like, we're gonna put
• 7:53
we need two Japanese people in this matches because it's aw New Japan for Bendorra.
• 7:57
We'll go with Tom and Watanabe and we'll put them there with christ and
• 8:01
Willow and just let them go at it. So there you're next match here
• 8:05
is Mariah May defeating Soriah in a Women's Own Hard Cup tournament first round match.
• 8:09
I had Mariah May dout tradet soria I think Maria May is my favorite
• 8:13
to win the Women's Own Heart Cup tournament, as an all in match with
• 8:16
timeless Stony Storm would be compelling. There is also obviously a strong case that
• 8:20
Willow Nightingale, following her win with Chris stat Lander, would be a very
• 8:22
compelling match against timeless Toney Storm at all in. Soria's run in AW has
• 8:28
been pretty anti climatic for an all time great. And yeah, she takes
• 8:31
a loss here in a match in less than ten minutes. I appreciate to
• 8:35
Miriam a doctor Trey. Yeah, and that's kind of why, like I
• 8:37
had picked a right because I was like, you know, this is one
• 8:39
of the legends of women's wrestling in a way, I mean, not Mount
• 8:45
Rushmore legend, but you know, people know Paige slash Soria. It just
• 8:50
is. It's unfortunately, like you look at you go may she the outcast.
• 8:54
Had a good little run. She's a former AW Women's Champions, she
• 8:58
just didn't have a long run with it. But for the last year she's
• 9:01
just been kind of stuck in the middle, which kind of what happens to
• 9:05
a lot of these WWE people. When they come over, they get a
• 9:07
nice little push and then they're just in the middle for the rest of their
• 9:13
time there, So unfortunate Sarriah for Sobria, but good for Mariah May because
• 9:16
now she has that on a resume that she beats Sria, which is a
• 9:20
resume builder, which gives her credibility heading in if that's the route they go
• 9:24
with heading into all In, if they do Perotoni Storm, she has that
• 9:28
on the resume. Next match, here's a Lucha Bros. And Mystico defeating
• 9:31
Los Ignorables de Hippon. We had both had Luca Brothers in Mystico. I
• 9:37
would have liked to have seen lij get the victory in this one, but
• 9:41
it would have been a weird look. After Jericho attacked Mystico during a CMLL
• 9:45
show on the Friday before four been in Door to help promote an assumed future
• 9:48
match. I would have liked to see some carry over there on Wednesday's Dynamite
• 9:52
as well, but obviously Jericho's involved and had a really good angle with Joe
• 9:56
Hook and Shabbata on Wednesdays Dynamite Dot. Share your thoughts on this one as
• 10:01
a Lucha Brothers and Mystico got the victory. Yeah, I mean this is
• 10:05
kind of our rule for this show was went in doubt picked the non New
• 10:09
Japan people to win the match. I like you thought, Eli JH,
• 10:13
you're gonna win here, because it would have made sense because if you have
• 10:16
Mystico selling an injury, then it's almost a three on two handicap match in
• 10:20
a sense if one guy's not one hundred percent. But they didn't go that
• 10:24
route, So fun Lucas style six man tag. I thought it was pretty
• 10:30
entertaining for matches that I typically don't like, so I enjoyed it. I
• 10:35
thought it was a good solid six man tag for what's placeholder spot on the
• 10:39
card. And then finally the main card here as MJF opened up to the
• 10:43
show by defeating Hetch and Sara. We both had MJF. These are notes
• 10:48
that I wrote pre Dynamite here, so this is pretty interesting. This is
• 10:52
why I want to read them, and then we'll talk a little bit about
• 10:54
what happened at Dynamite as well once we put this match to rest. So
• 10:58
Hetch and Sarah to me, has been the most impressive CML wrestler I've seen
• 11:01
on aw television, and it shows that they put him in this match.
• 11:05
I really want to see MJF ramp up heading into aw all in and that
• 11:09
is what I expect will happen. MJF is just kind of waiting in water
• 11:13
right now. Again, these were notes that I wrote pre Dynamite. We'll
• 11:16
get to that in just a second. But Doctor Trey MGFF defeating Hetchet Sarow,
• 11:20
Yeah, I'm with you. Like Hetchees Sarah is about the only person
• 11:22
who actually from CMLL that I read that I can actually go, oh,
• 11:26
that's Hetches Sarah, Like I actually know who that is. The rest of
• 11:28
the roster for the most part, I'm like, ummm, his name is
• 11:31
  a DC villain or a Marvel villain. I can't remember. That's how I
• 11:35
remember most of these guys. But I was like, going to MJF.
• 11:39
It feels like he came back. They had the blow off Adam Cole out
• 11:41
of nowhere for no reason, and then he's been treading with water ever since.
• 11:46
Uh. That was my note pre dynamite as well. But overall I
• 11:50
thought it was a solid match because it's still it shows MJF, you know,
• 11:54
still being a top guy, but also still allowed Hetching Saro some offense
• 11:58
and a little bit of shine to keep him looking strong. If they decide
• 12:01
to steal him from CTMLL or use him in a different way. So solid
• 12:07
opener, but maybe not the match I would have had opened the show.
• 12:11
So I kind of like matches have a little bit more importance than this one.
• 12:15
This one still felt kind of like a throwaway match in a sense.
• 12:18
So let's talk about what happened at Dynamite. You have the Danny Garcia will
• 12:20
Osprey match for the AW International Championship. MJFF in the corner of Danny Garcia
• 12:26
will Osprey gets the victory after Garcia refused to use the Dynamite diamond ring was
• 12:31
distracted him blade one two three. MJFF gets in the ring, kicks him
• 12:35
in the nuts, beats the crap out of them, and I guess in
• 12:39
a way turns heel. It was I think almost like fifteen minutes overrun on
• 12:46
Dynamite this past Wednesday. And I'll get this out of the way now as
• 12:50
well. It was a very strong episode of AW Dynamite, a really enjoyable
• 12:54
episode. Good little stretch here for AW creatively and end ring wise that I'm
• 12:58
in joining and welcome to the party AW here on the short term, long
• 13:03
time coming. We've been waiting very patiently. So I was very excited to
• 13:07
see that MJF went back to MGF mode. I think it's very safe to
• 13:13
say that MGF is most successful when he is MGF twenty nineteen to mid twenty
• 13:20
twenty three, the Babyface MJF just really wasn't clicking getting over getting the same
• 13:26
kind of feel and the vibe was from us on the podcast that it could
• 13:31
be a stone cold Steve Austin like type run for him. He never really
• 13:35
captured in that because he kind of leaned into too much of what they were
• 13:39
saying on the Internet's a little bit emo in a way there on the Babyface
• 13:43
run and a little bit too corny, which was something I never thought I
• 13:46
would say about MGF. So him really getting a good, strong emotion and
• 13:50
beat down of Danny Garcia to close Dynamite a turn if you will, was
• 13:56
really good getting into it with a crowd. It was a really really strong
• 14:01
ending, And something that I was really excited about is eventually will Ospray came
• 14:05
out to get the save. I guess if there's a one drawback there,
• 14:07
it's like, where the hell was will Ospray that entire time? Like was
• 14:11
he just like I don't know icing his feet, Like what was he doing
• 14:13
that that he didn't get out there right away? So really really strong,
• 14:18
fun in compelling, interesting segment to close down to my doctor Trainer. Was
• 14:22
refreshing to see MGF go back to his roots. Yeah, my thing was
• 14:28
the offspray line. I thought was really good. I just figured will Osprey
• 14:33
got lost in the back. I had some of those back areas when they
• 14:35
started curtaining things off and partitioning things off can get kind of confusing, and
• 14:39
he's not. You know, it's probably his first time in that building,
• 14:41
so maybe he got lost. He got back to the curtain, took a
• 14:45
left, we should take it a right, got lost and they had to
• 14:46
make a big loop to get back out to make the same I'm excited for
• 14:52
MJF as a heel. It just leads me questions because he just came back
• 14:58
a couple like what six weeks ago, six weeks eight weeks ago, had
• 15:03
the big blowoff with you know, Adam Cole, and then now they're kind
• 15:07
of on the same ledger, so to speak. They're both heels now again.
• 15:13
So MJF good when he has people around him. Does that mean he
• 15:16
starts getting people around him as well. And then I also was like,
• 15:20
is Danny Garcia a big enough character for him to turn heel on to really
• 15:26
get people to care. So I'm a little worried to you because I think
• 15:30
he'll still get baby face pops at times as this now full fledged heel again,
• 15:35
So curious to see where it goes by mc scit because you're absolutely right,
• 15:37
MGF is better as a heel than he is a babyface, and this
• 15:41
is the best route because if you look at potential challenge or potential matchups after
• 15:46
Garcia, well will Ospray's now a full fledged baby face and you have swerved
• 15:50
Strickland and either of those matchups down the road are money making matchups. For
• 15:56
MJF is just a question of is this a big enough babyface for him to
• 16:00
turn on to really get the crowd to hate him. Yeah, no,
• 16:03
it was. It'll be interesting to follow up Saturday's collision. He's got to
• 16:07
open up the show. We'll see how that goes. But I feel like
• 16:11
short term was really really strong and I'm happy to see MGF back in that
• 16:15
role. Next match here is the Elite defeating Scissa Ace the Acclaim in Hiroshi
• 16:21
ton of Hashey and a trios match. We both have the Elite. The
• 16:23
hype video heading into this match with him blurting out Kenny and make his face
• 16:26
was hilarious and some of the funny stuff that this version of the New Elite
• 16:30
has done. Okada is super over and despite what some people say online,
• 16:36
I actually really like this version of him where he's showing his personality off a
• 16:38
little more. Max Caster's rap before the match may have been his best one
• 16:44
I've ever seen in aw And I wonder if the planets for both the Acclaim
• 16:48
versus the Young Bucks and Ocada versus a ton of Hashi for each of their
• 16:51
titles at Wembley at all in next month, so the Elite at the victory
• 16:55
Doctor treover Scissa as Yeah, I like for some reason, I weird thing
• 17:00
where it's like I watched this version of Akada is like he's like the million
• 17:03
dollar Japanese man. Like it's just it's so it's it's good. It's something
• 17:08
that you really never saw him do in New Japan, so it's it's kind
• 17:11
of a new take on it, which it makes a ton of sense.
• 17:15
His English is not great, so he has the Bucks around him and potentially
• 17:18
other people as well. Jack Perry's there as well, so it's good for
• 17:22
him, it's good for the Bucks. Gives them a little bit of They
• 17:26
don't have the muscle Guy and their faction, but if you have one of
• 17:30
the best wrestlers in the world on your side, it makes a lot of
• 17:32
sense as well. And I really enjoyed Scissorre's what it was. Tanahashi looks
• 17:38
so out of place, but he was having fun with it. So a
• 17:41
fun trios match and like or and like you said, like it sets up
• 17:45
for all In if you get Okata and tana Hashi at aw all In,
• 17:49
Like how out of water and weird and awesome? Is that all rolled up
• 17:52
into one? Yeah, no, I'm I'm here for it, and I
• 17:56
think that would be a lot of fun. Again, one of my favorite
• 17:59
moments attending into this feud this match was the Wednesday Dynamite promo where like Tadahashi
• 18:07
said something that he was the Cissarees and Okada was laughing in the ring like
• 18:11
bro character. Yeah, it was just a lot. There was a lot
• 18:15
of fun stuff surrounding this entire match, and then the match itself was pretty
• 18:18
good. Next match year is Brian Danielson defeating Shingo Takagi in the Men's Own
• 18:22
Heart Cup tournament first round match. We both had Danielson getting the victory.
• 18:26
Uh, this is the type of match that you would expect from Danielson and
• 18:29
Shingo, which is really really good. I enjoyed the last part of this
• 18:32
match, and I thought Danielson helped get Shingo over with any audiences that may
• 18:36
not be accustomed with a new with a great new japan pro wrestler in Shingo
• 18:38
Takagi. Danielson gets the victory and advances Dotch Trey and he also defeated Pac
• 18:42
on Wednesday's Dynamite, so now he is in the finals of the Men's Own
• 18:47
Heart Cup Tournament finals anyway, so I really enjoyed this matchup. It's one
• 18:55
of the things I watches the matchinem going. I Danielson is getting Shingo over
• 19:00
because as a sign of respect. But does it really matter if you don't
• 19:03
use shingo again? Does it matter getting somebody over if they're not going to
• 19:07
be around very much? Does it really help? But it made for a
• 19:11
compelling match. It's just that's on those matches where you look at when Brian
• 19:15
has to put this match together to show appreciation for somebody he admires, which
• 19:19
is a really strong, good professional wrestling matchup. I actually enjoyed the match
• 19:25
he had with Pak on Dynamite a little bit more just because I have more
• 19:27
investment in Pak than I do Shingo. But once again Brian has in the
• 19:33
finals. Is good for everybody because he's still one of the best wrestlers in
• 19:38
the world and enjoy to see any time he gets in the ring and he's
• 19:41
one hundred percent healthy or at least appears to be one hundred percent healthy.
• 19:45
Next match is time with Tony Storm defeating Mina Shurikawa to retain the AW Women's
• 19:48
World Championship by Tony Doctor Trey and Mina. Mina Sharrikawa is a really fun
• 19:53
in ring watch to seem ployees to be a big star someday soon. I
• 19:56
would love to see Tony and Mina run it back in someday. Doug tray
• 20:00
your thoughts on this one as Timeless retains. Yeah, this was me trying
• 20:06
to go out of the box and catch up to Jeff by seeing the Mariah
• 20:08
May match end. This match but yeah, you know, I saw Eric
• 20:12
Bischoff crap all of this match, and I thought it was actually pretty.
• 20:15
I thought it was decent. Tony's character work is still kind of ahead of
• 20:19
her in ring work because there's a couple of spots in there where you're kind
• 20:22
of like time he's let it off. But when you have somebody from the
• 20:26
UK wrestling somebody from Japan and they've never wrestled before, that kind of happens.
• 20:30
But I like the character work of both ladies and thought this was a
• 20:33
good compelling matchup, and then the weird love triangles good good storyline as well.
• 20:37
So I actually really enjoyed this. I don't know what I mean.
• 20:41
Eric was too cop in a steak. I guess I really enjoyed it,
• 20:44
and I was eating while I watched it, So I think I would multitask
• 20:49
a little bitter than Eric Bishoff of this case. Sometimes Bischoff is just a
• 20:52
little too rough on aw and goes beyond where it's like, okay, yeah,
• 20:56
no, I can understand that point, and I did not understand point
• 21:00
in this match. Next met Year is Zach Saber Junior defeating Orange Cassie dout
• 21:03
Tray, and I both hat Orange Cassie to get win. ZSJ is so
• 21:07
much fun to watch. The finishing submission move was a thing of beauty and
• 21:10
something I have never seen before, which is typical with ZSJ. Orange Casside
• 21:15
held his own as a technical wrestling master in this one as well. ZFJ
• 21:18
gets the victory over Orange Cassidy. Yeah, this is one of those ones
• 21:22
where we went, Okay, New Japan guy wins, which is good for
• 21:25
New Japan, but what does that do for Orange Cassidy, Like it's confusing
• 21:29
sometimes of booking on some of these matchups, Like this is like a semi
• 21:33
dream match for the new generation of wrestling fans, and I thought it was
• 21:37
a really enjoyable match. It wasn't the typical Orange Cassiding match. He had
• 21:41
to go hole for hole with CSJ, which is really hard to do because
• 21:44
he may be the smoothest wrestler I have ever seen. The way he cans
• 21:49
string stuff together and change stuff together is just incredible. But just a really
• 21:55
really solid matchup. Once again. CSJ, though, gets a win over
• 21:59
a top aw guy and we may not see ZESJ game for six months a
• 22:03
year, so what's the point in the booking of this match. If that's
• 22:07
the case, so just a little confused by it. But maybe New Japan
• 22:11
said, hey, guys, we got to get a couple of our guys
• 22:14
over on this car, so just pick a couple of guys you like it.
• 22:17
Those guys have to get wins. So I'm just a little confused by
• 22:19
the booking of it. But as a match itself, just looking at it
• 22:23
and watching it really really enjoyable. My theory on it is if a New
• 22:27
Japan guy Goats gets over, that means Tony Kahan wants to eventually sign them.
• 22:33
Yes, so that makes a lot of sense. Yeah, I mean
• 22:34
I would want to sign zesj as well, So not a surprise there.
• 22:40
Next match, you or Samo, Joe Hook and Kassi or Schabada defeating Christ
• 22:42
Jericho, Big Bill and Jeff Cobb in a trios match, I had Joe
• 22:45
Hook and Shabata, Dot Trea, Jericho, Bill and Cobb. It's a
• 22:48
pretty big deal for Hook to get the pin on Jericho by using his own
• 22:52
finishing move. The trios of Joe, Hook and Shabbada is a lot of
• 22:56
fun and I hope we see them get to get into the trio's title picture.
• 22:59
Soon enough. There was a big angle on Wednesday's Dynamite where Jericho,
• 23:03
Big Bill and Brian Keith took out all three members of Joe, Hook and
• 23:08
Shabbata. Hook got a massive beat down, Taz was removed from the building,
• 23:14
which was a funny little segment. It was nice to see Jericho,
• 23:18
Bill and Brian Keith get a little bit more violent with their characters because they
• 23:23
were kind of borderline like a little bit too weak the way they were being
• 23:29
built there. So good angle, fun match at fourbidden Door dotch tray your
• 23:33
thoughts, and we saw the Wizard come back. We saw the fireball,
• 23:37
so that was pretty cool too. I love that the first time Jackier Folebaugh
• 23:41
was just yelling at I'm a wizard. I'm a Wizard. I thought was
• 23:44
great. So it's good to see the Wizard come back a little bit.
• 23:47
But yeah, the when I watched the match live and saw Hook and Joe
• 23:52
and Shabbati at the wind, I was look confused because I'm like, man,
• 23:55
the learning tree has been built up kind of like this goofy, like
• 23:59
not so serious heel group, Like what's the point of it? But then
• 24:02
the collision part made sense to give them that edgeback. So but fun trios
• 24:07
match, Like you said, if you get hooked Joe and Shabbata and the
• 24:11
trio stuff like that'll be fun too. So good. Once again, it's
• 24:15
just damn good, solid trios matchup. And you know, trios matchups for
• 24:18
me, prior to the last maybe year of aw have not always been entertaining.
• 24:22
So the ones are seal on the show so far, We're really good.
• 24:26
Next match here is Jack Perry defeating Kenoski Takeshka, Mark Brisco, Dante
• 24:30
mar and Leo Rush and l Phantasmo and a ladder match would be crowning the
• 24:33
new AWT and T champion. We both let Jack Perry get in the victory.
• 24:38
I thought this match was a letdown given the circumstances with the T and
• 24:41
T Championship and the gimmick match of the multi man ladder match. The finish
• 24:45
came off as a lackluster as Jack Perry won the match. I get the
• 24:48
real heel heat with Jack Perry and giving him the spot. I just have
• 24:52
a real tough time taking him seriously given his height and size and all lasty
• 24:55
in that cmpunk video still did not do him any favors because he got punked
• 24:59
out. I think there's a lot of upside here, but he needs to
• 25:02
put on some muscle similar how Swerve Strickland did. And I also felt like
• 25:04
this match was kind of cut short on time. It just felt very rushed.
• 25:08
Did not enjoy it all that much. And the Jack Perry victory was
• 25:14
very easy to call. And I don't know, maybe I would have done
• 25:17
it in a different way than a ladder match, So don't trait your thoughts
• 25:19
on this one. Yeah, Like for me, like watching it and being
• 25:23
ninety five percent sure Jack Perry was going to win. I kind of wanted
• 25:27
not so much a swerve, but I wanted to make it seem kind of
• 25:30
more compelling and the athletes in this match, I thought you'd get a lot
• 25:34
more you know, crazy spots, some stuff that we haven't seen before,
• 25:40
some innovation, and we really didn't get that. To Keshka being kind of
• 25:44
added in last minute, I was like, Oh, that's great because we
• 25:45
haven't really seen him on TV since you know, he threw his temper tantrum
• 25:49
online and that was kind of a letdown. It was for a six person
• 25:55
ladder match. This may be the weakest main or big show. Oh,
• 26:00
six person ladder match I've ever seen. That's just that much of a letdown
• 26:04
for what it could be. So I'm still Jack Perry's either got to get
• 26:10
bigger or he needs a muscle. He needs to have a Lucasource type guy
• 26:14
with him if he wants to go to Sean Michael's route of being just undersized
• 26:18
top eel. He needs something around him to make him feel like a threat.
• 26:23
Right now, you just kind of feel like he's just annoying. He's
• 26:26
he's like an annoying gnat that he just wait for somebody's swat away. Yeah,
• 26:30
and it's not an annoying like he'll heat way. And I really have
• 26:33
to say that about the guy, because I do think he's extremely talented.
• 26:36
It's just like that, more opportunities they give him, it's just it's not
• 26:38
believable, and he's he's got to do something. I mean, Swirre Strickland
• 26:42
was a little bit undersized and and he bulked up kind of got more of
• 26:45
a vicious attitude. I know what they were doing with the punk video to
• 26:51
get some eyes on the product and get a little bit of a bump in
• 26:53
an increase and welcome him back into storylines. But I just can't get that
• 26:57
on my head. I mean, he looked like a bitch in that video,
• 27:00
and how am I supposed to take him seriously as it's like badass,
• 27:03
heel called a scapegoat, Like, it just doesn't make sense at all.
• 27:07
So he grew up here, Jeff, he grew up tells you that he
• 27:11
hit puberty. So yeah, yeah, I mean again, I always say
• 27:15
this, like, but he probably could kick my ass. But the thing
• 27:18
is I say probably, you know what I mean, it's legitimate. It's
• 27:22
it's legitimate there correctly. Like if Jeff is having an allergy breakout and it
• 27:29
happens to be a Tuesday and he's a little hungry, maybe Jack Perry could
• 27:33
take Jeff Peck. It would be the battle of the JP's though, yeah,
• 27:37
it would be JP versus JP. That could be something that's like Icon
• 27:38
versus Icon wrestling. In eighteen. Next match heear is Mercedes Moone defeating Stephanie
• 27:44
Vakor in a winner take all match, retain the AWTVS Championship and win the
• 27:48
New Japan Strong Women's Championship. We both had Mercedes Bonet again. This was
• 27:52
written before Wednesday's Dynamite leave it to a New York crowd to start getting the
• 27:56
Mercedes bone He'll turn, which the direction should be for her character going the
• 28:00
short term on Mercedes running AW hasn't been as I had hoped it would go,
• 28:03
and I think getting involved with returning doctor Burt Baker, DMD would be
• 28:07
really good for her in the early stages of her AW career. We'll talk
• 28:10
a little bit more about what happened on Dynamite in just a second, Doctor
• 28:12
traight your thoughts on the match typical Mercedes mon a match for me, and
• 28:18
this is the history of the Still Real Twist show where I'm just like,
• 28:22
yeah, like I don't I still don't get the massive love for her.
• 28:26
I always said if she was wrestling somebody on her level or he thought was
• 28:32
on her level, or one of her friends, she had great matches.
• 28:34
Anybody else they were crap. And this one I just I'm watching going.
• 28:40
All we heard was how much you know did her opponent, how good she
• 28:44
was, and how great she was. And I watched this match, going
• 28:45
this match kind of yeah at best, like agreed eh ladder match, I'm
• 28:52
like, Okay, now I'm really kind of mad that I'm three hours into
• 28:55
this show, three and a half hours in the show, and this is
• 28:56
where I'm at right now. But always saving grace about this whole match and
• 29:02
segment was the reappearance of Doctor Britt Baker. So like, once again,
• 29:06
I'm just like people who tell me Mercedes Monet is a top five women's wrestler
• 29:11
of all time, I still think are just delusional. Yeah. I figured
• 29:15
when I watched this match and I did not enjoy it as well, and
• 29:18
I was like, when we sit down for the podcast, doctor Trey's gonna
• 29:22
be like I told you so, because I was very high on Mercedes Monet
• 29:25
signing for AAW and just in the short term, it just has not been
• 29:30
great. The match has been okay, the character has been fine. I
• 29:33
felt like they should have gone heel immediately just because the way that she was
• 29:37
carrying herself on television, and that should have been the direction. The creative
• 29:41
has been all right, and she's kind of part time. I mean,
• 29:45
she's not there as frequently as I had hoped. I think Will Osprey has
• 29:49
been on television more than Mercedes Monet, and he's coming from freaking England for
• 29:52
AW shows. So I also on this match, I saw that the goal
• 29:56
for aw and Mercedes Monette was to get about corp over and she's extremely talented,
• 30:02
but and they felt like they achieved that. I did not feel like
• 30:04
they achieved that. As a viewer at home, I'm not accustomed to her
• 30:07
matches in her style of wrestling. I watched the match, I did not
• 30:11
think, Okay, this is like me to Shirakawa in the match with time
• 30:15
with Stony Storm, I was like, Mina is really good. I want
• 30:18
to see more of her matches. I did not feel that with Stephanie vakor
• 30:21
So. I disagree with the report out there that's saying that they felt like
• 30:25
they accomplished what they wanted by getting her over as a star onto Dynamite.
• 30:30
They leaned into the heill turn brit Baker in the ring, Mercedes Monet shows
• 30:33
up. She is created by the EVPs the Young Bucks, who say that
• 30:37
they've a celebration waiting for her in the ring while doctor britt Baker's in there.
• 30:44
One thing leads to another. Get down to the ring and britt Baker
• 30:47
challeng challenges her to all in. Monette is leaning into the heel character again,
• 30:52
right thing to do. The problem that I have with that segment is
• 30:57
britt Baker says all in, and there was also it just felt very awkward
• 31:02
between the two. It didn't flow well. I don't know if somebody missed
• 31:06
a line or something that was supposed to be said. There was a part
• 31:08
where it just felt very awkward, which is right around this all in part.
• 31:12
So she says all in, Mercedes Bone says, you know, get
• 31:15
in the back of the line, and then I think prit Baker said like,
• 31:19
there's nobody there, and then she holds the title and I'm like,
• 31:22
so does that mean they're having a mat? I think they get to all
• 31:26
in, but was it official? Did Mercedes Monett give the thumbs up to
• 31:30
say yeah, I'm I'll wrestle you at all in? It was a very
• 31:34
odd segment. I felt, yeah, I'm watching and you and IBUB like
• 31:41
britt Baker's when it comes to promos is probably one of the best in women's
• 31:45
in the women's division in both companies, and it just felt off. It
• 31:52
felt like they were both I don''t to say nervous, but very guarded.
• 31:56
It's almost like they didn't trust what the other was going to say. Like
• 32:00
they were both waiting for the other person to one up them, almost like
• 32:04
just being very protective of their spots while they're cutting these promos. And it's
• 32:09
also just lack of communication and lack of ever being around each other, because
• 32:15
you know, while Rip Baker's dominate AW Mercedes and ww A, Mercedes comes
• 32:20
AW and BRIT's on the shelf. So it could just be that lack of
• 32:23
communicative timing, which some people have and some people don't. But it was
• 32:28
just kind of weird and clunky. But they are right to lean into Mercedes
• 32:32
when a being a heel makes more sense. That's kind of her natural character
• 32:37
is supposed to be hear the CEO. How many people go, you know
• 32:40
who I love? I love the CEO of my company. Nobody ever says
• 32:44
so if you're the CEO, obviously you're going to be kind of obnoxious,
• 32:47
So it makes sense to go that way. And Britt Baker being I do
• 32:52
love I did like the line of the only three letters that that matter are
• 32:55
DMD. I did like that line. But yeah, just for two of
• 33:00
the perceived best women wrestlers in the world to have kind of clunky promo and
• 33:06
a couple of clunky interactions is a little scary. The other thing I dislike
• 33:09
about all this is is the TVs title more important than the women's title.
• 33:15
Because these are the two biggest stars in your women's division and they're fighting over
• 33:20
technically the intercontinental title. It's just weird. Once again, the hierarchy of
• 33:24
titles and placements is just kind of often times like, I know this is
• 33:30
a big match for all In, but to me, to get the women's
• 33:34
title over onto the level of what you have in WWE, this future be
• 33:38
for the women's title as opposed to the TBS title. Yeah, I don't
• 33:43
know if they're trying to elevate that championship if they don't want them in the
• 33:45
women's title reign so far, because Titlestony Storm's doing a very good job with
• 33:50
their character. There's a lot of weird creative in that standpoint. And one
• 33:52
thing that I'll also add to this is it wasn't too long ago that they
• 33:57
brought back the ranking system and now it's completely washed away. Unless Britt Baker
• 34:01
starts doing gets victories and all of a sudden is the number one contender and
• 34:07
they go on the ranking system, it's like, well then why did you
• 34:08
bring the raking system back when Joe was world champion? So yeah, it
• 34:13
was very weird. I kind of got like CM punk type vibes, Like
• 34:19
I feel like that there is a guard in aw that doesn't like when the
• 34:22
outsiders come in and try to, you know, get some glory off of
• 34:25
what they built. And I don't know if that's the case here, but
• 34:29
it did feel like it was a very odd promo towards the tail end of
• 34:32
it, it just was executed very very poorly between by both women. So
• 34:37
if this is a dream match Britt Baker versus Mercedes Monet, and we'll see
• 34:40
how this continues forward coming out of Forbidden Door. In this past Wednesday's edition
• 34:45
to Dynamite, next match here is Tutsi and Nido defeating John Moxley to win
• 34:50
the IWGP World of aweight Championship by Anito, Dowt Tre and Moxley. I
• 34:53
love both these guys as wrestlers, but I did not love this match,
• 34:58
especially the end, as I felt like the there may have been some miscommunications
• 35:00
on kickouts and spots in this one. I love Red Shoes the referee,
• 35:06
but felt like he got too involved in a match between two greats at the
• 35:08
end with a really slow third count attempt on a pin and then taking the
• 35:13
chair away from Moxley. Lastly, I felt like Moxley and aw didn't really
• 35:16
add much benefit to him holding the IWGP World of weweight Championship as it wasn't
• 35:22
featured much in aw outside of I believe one title match against Powerhouse Hobbs and
• 35:25
Jacksonville. I think everyone else everything else was eliminator matches. Not sure if
• 35:30
that was a New Japan Pro Wrestling call or not or not, or due
• 35:35
to the lack of the title defenses, it felt like this title reign for
• 35:38
Max was just something he could add to his Hall of Fame resume, rather
• 35:42
than getting new eyes on the new Japan Pro Wrestling product and understanding IWGP legacy
• 35:47
itself. So that was my thoughts on this one. Doctorres Nitol regains the
• 35:52
IWGP World aweight Championship over John Moxley. Yeah, and for me, I
• 35:55
don't know if it was just fatigue for watching the entire show or what,
• 36:00
but by this time I'm like, yeah, the match itself for two of
• 36:05
the better wrestlers in the world, this match to me was just kind of
• 36:07
like awkward and weird, and you know, all respect to Reshues, but
• 36:12
he's almost in that Earl Hebner thing now where it's like he's almost too big
• 36:16
of a name to be a referee, like the referee feels like he needs
• 36:21
to get his shine in a match almost at times. But yeah, it
• 36:25
just it felt off. Now, I did you know, and I did
• 36:28
read up on this a little bit that New Japan controls the booking for all
• 36:31
of their titles, so this may this is a New Japan call to put
• 36:37
the belt on Nido and not an AAW call. But it did feel like
• 36:40
it was good for New Japan to have their title on Boxley even though he's
• 36:45
not wrestling on TV. And it felt like it was good for AW because
• 36:49
it showed Moxley still as a title holder and still because he's not hasn't really
• 36:53
been featured in any of the things in AAW recently like Blackpool, Comba Absolute
• 36:59
with if you do with the CML group and then he's got the du Japan
• 37:02
stuff. They really have been factored into a thing since FTR got hurt,
• 37:07
So maybe it's just a good placeholder spot now it shows that hey, we
• 37:10
can move him on to something else more AWS. But yeah, the matches
• 37:15
health the ending just I'm like watches and going with Moxley fights all over the
• 37:20
ring and uses everything around the ring side, but he can't have the chair,
• 37:23
Like that's where you're drawing the line Like that's a little weird to me,
• 37:27
But yeah, to me, this was just like now we're at three
• 37:30
to row matches where I'm just like, eh, like all my energy now
• 37:32
sucked out of me. That's tough one of You're on match number fourteen,
• 37:37
So let's get to match number fifteen. As Swerve Strickland defeats will Ospry to
• 37:40
retain the AW World Championship in the main event match, we both at sperb
• 37:44
of Strickland getting the victory. I loved the reported reason for this finish,
• 37:47
as fight Full Select is reported at will Osprey wanted to eliminate the talking point
• 37:52
of Swerve being a placehold over for him until aw all in at Wembley,
• 37:54
hence why the match took place Now that was something that we thought was gonna
• 37:58
happen. I also love that these two guys got the opportunity to mainvent because
• 38:01
if there were any doubters about their abilities and main event level players. It
• 38:06
was silence on Sunday night. If you give these guys good creative to support
• 38:09
their pay per view matches, then Swerve and Osprey can be guys that help
• 38:13
rejuvenate the AW product. As for the match itself, the guardwell Hurricanrona spot
• 38:17
was insane. From Osprey to Swerve, stop on Osprey onto the announcers table
• 38:22
was nuts, and then the final part of this match was incredible. This
• 38:25
is on my short list of Match of the Year candidates as Ospray and Swerve
• 38:28
for some of the best in the visits today. Swerve Strickland retains the AW
• 38:31
World Championship over will Ospray not to try. Yeah, the best thing I
• 38:36
read about this was that there were guys in AW who did not want to
• 38:39
lose who Swerve because a year ago he was a mid card, lower card
• 38:44
guy and Osprey wanted to put that to the rest of Ospray can lose to
• 38:47
Swerve. Anybody can lose the Swerve. So I love that this match was
• 38:53
fantastic, and I was it was weird at this point. I don't know
• 38:57
about you, Like I'm watching the show and after the last three matches,
• 39:00
I'm like, oh, please, just let this match me decent. I
• 39:02
was just hoping for decent to good at this point because I was exhausted,
• 39:07
and it was fantastic. This is one of the things that made me a
• 39:10
believer will Ospray as well, between the promo work he's been doing, the
• 39:15
promo working he did on Collision, the intricacies of the storytelling when the screwdriver
• 39:21
gets slid into him and he has that internal confliction about using it and then
• 39:25
decides not to use it, but it takes how many house calls and then
• 39:30
a jml's driver at the end of finding blum away like this like legitimized will
• 39:34
Ospray to me even more and once again put Sworth on that upper tier level.
• 39:38
So fantastic, fantastic way match and a great way to close to the
• 39:43
show because this is one of those matches that elevates both guys and so good
• 39:46
job to AW Booking to put this together to keep both guys looking strong,
• 39:51
not have some crazy run in interference and legitimize both guys. So you go
• 39:55
AW and New Japan Arresting Forbidden Door recap and let's get our PAP per viewprediction
• 40:00
record. Here I went twelve to one. Doctor Trey win eight and five
• 40:04
coming out of this one, I'm an eighty and seventeen Dutch Trace seventy one
• 40:07
and twenty six match of the night. In event rating, my match to
• 40:10
night very easy. Here serves Stricken versus Will Osprey. It's is on the
• 40:14
shortlist of match of the Year candidates for me. As for event rating,
• 40:17
I give it a three point six out of five. I overall the show
• 40:22
was fine. Fifteen matches on a wrestling card in twenty twenty four for five
• 40:29
and a half hours is too much. I'm sorry if that is controversial to
• 40:34
some wrestling fans that are like, they love this for five and a half
• 40:36
hours and fifteen matches, it is not my cup of tea. There are
• 40:39
matches in here that are fantastics working Will Osprey, Timstony Storm, Minasher at
• 40:45
Kawa, I like the Elite and Scissor Ace and there mjffin Hetchin Sero was
• 40:49
good. Like there's good matches in here. Then there's a lot of stuff
• 40:52
that you can basically skip over and gloss over that was just like why the
• 40:55
hell did they do this? Or a match that was disappointing, like Night
• 40:59
don't and mocks. I really think they need to change the pay per view
• 41:04
model for aw and I don't think they they will again. Five and a
• 41:08
half hours fifteen matches way too much, So I give it a three point
• 41:13
six out of five. Doctor Trey. Yeah, not everything has to be
• 41:16
a wrestle kingdom, and I don't mean to the old school wrestle kingdoms where
• 41:21
it was six seven hours or WrestleMania. Not every pay per view. I
• 41:23
mean, I get Forbidden Door. You got a lot of people coming in
• 41:25
from multiple companies. It's a big deal, but the fatigue factor sets in
• 41:30
and you can tell it done us watching the show. But I mean imagine
• 41:36
being an attendance for five and a half hours of wrestling, not to mention
• 41:39
you probably got there an hour early, and then try to get out of
• 41:43
the building and drive home from Long Island. Oh my gosh. I feel
• 41:46
I feel for the fans, and it's tense. I had the show.
• 41:50
I also at a three point six, which it's just weird that you pick
• 41:52
the same number as me, and I also had auspring swear. But it's
• 41:55
just yeah, I'm old man, I can't do five and a half hours
• 42:00
anymore. I can't do, Jeff, I can't even do like three hours
• 42:04
at a concert, and that's live music, NonStop. I mean five and
• 42:07
a half hours, dear lord, Like I would need to be hopped up
• 42:10
on cocaine and red bolts and survived that night in person. Like, it's
• 42:15
just a crazy amount of just content to digest, and especially if the card
• 42:22
flow is not right, Like if you move not Moxley and Nido to the
• 42:25
beginning of that show and Nido get to win to kick off the show,
• 42:30
you and I both go, oh, this is going to be different because
• 42:32
New Japan got a win to start the show that's unexpected. And then you
• 42:37
put MGF somewhere in the middle. I think that flows a little bit better.
• 42:42
But this is this is an example of why match placement and how you
• 42:46
book the show out is so important, because the show started off really strong
• 42:51
and then really started kind of dipping towards the end, and only kind of
• 42:55
Osprey and Swar saved it at the end to make this a good pay per
• 43:00
view at least. Yeah, I had wrestler Any thirty vibes, which is
• 43:05
what led to two night events for WrestleMania, basically because it was I think
• 43:09
a fifteen to eighteen match card off the top of my head, and it
• 43:15
was like, they need to do something different here, and I think AW
• 43:16
needs to do something different. But I feel like also that AW is going
• 43:21
to dig their heels in the sand a little bit and not change anything.
• 43:24
I think this is what they think their business model is and it's not something
• 43:27
that I want to see on the regular. It should not be a chore
• 43:30
to watch these shows. It really should be give me quality, not quantity.
• 43:36
So we've talked about this at nauseum in the past, and it just
• 43:38
was brought up again because for Benendor was so fucking long and again thank god,
• 43:45
Swerve of Stricklin, will Osprey put on an absolute clinic And to that
• 43:47
point, like I'm looking at my AW shows that I've given match to the
• 43:52
night AW Revolution, Ospray, Kenoske Aw Dynasty, Osprey Danielson was mine,
• 43:59
AW double or not Osprey, rogerck Strong and then Forbid Indoor, Osprey,
• 44:02
Swert of Strickland. So I think I really like Will Ospray Doctor Trey.
• 44:07
Well, you did tell me he would be the biggest free agent signing whenever
• 44:10
he decided and signed with one of the two major companies. So yeah,
• 44:15
your love affairly Will Osprey. Now, if you go back years and years
• 44:17
ago, I always said if Osprey put on size, he'd be a main
• 44:22
event talent. Another one of those put on size. Yeah, just it
• 44:27
does matter. Size matters. I don't know if everybody knows that, but
• 44:30
it does matter in the world of professional wrestling that if you look the part,
• 44:35
you're believable, which is also why Jeff Perry, Jeff pechis he could
• 44:38
beat up Jack Perry. Yeah. I hate to say it, I really
• 44:40
do, because it's a very like corny wrestling fan thing to say, but
• 44:45
I'm having a really tough time taking Jack Perry believable. I mean Ospray I
• 44:50
watched him in twenty seventeen when he was with Chaos working as a junior heavyweight,
• 44:53
and he was a small guy. He bulked up when he became the
• 44:57
IWGP Worldlyweight Champion and looked phenomenal. I mean, I'm just such a believer
• 45:00
and say things for Stricklyn. I remember watching Swerve in NXT and prior to
• 45:05
that, on the Independence and various different promotions, and he was a junior
• 45:08
heavyweight. He was he was working two A five live in we those guys
• 45:12
put on size and I, without batting an eye, I did not change.
• 45:16
I changed my thoughts on them being main event level players. So I
• 45:20
love that Swerve and Osbury planted their flag in the ground. Forbidden Door was
• 45:24
extremely long. Again, but if you have not watched Dynamite yet, go
• 45:28
out of your way and check it out. It was a very very strong
• 45:30
episode of AW Dynamite. It is what I wanted to see. I saw
• 45:34
really good creative entertainment segments and good entering work. So props all around AW
• 45:38
here on the short term, switching gears to w w WEE, we've got
• 45:43
to preview and predict Money in the Bank and NXC heat Wave in just a
• 45:45
moment. But I want to talk about another great angle and segment that I
• 45:49
wanted to do bring up here on the show, and that was the closed
• 45:52
to Friday's SmackDown where Paul Hayman says to Solo Socoa that you are not my
• 45:59
travel chief. During the Bloodline acknowledgement ceremony, they end up laying out Paul
• 46:02
Hayman in something that we've never really seen with his character, I mean,
• 46:07
absolutely brutalized him during that segment and to me, it will go down as
• 46:10
a memorable moment in the history of SmackDown, and especially for this angle.
• 46:15
So two parts here, Doctor Trey and I felt this way prior to and
• 46:20
I can't even believe I'm saying this, but is this the best we've ever
• 46:23
seen from Paul Hayman? And was the Bloodline acknowledgement ceremony from SmackDown pure cinema
• 46:30
for you as well? Yeah, I mean for Paul Hayman. I'm literally
• 46:36
like going through the analogs of my timeline watching Paul Hayman, going back to
• 46:42
roughly nineteen eighty six in Awa. So I've been watching Paul Haman for almost
• 46:46
forty years. This last run since WrestleMania has been really fantastic. I don't
• 46:54
know, I have to sit down and kind of rank it, but it's
• 46:59
right there. I mean, this is some of the best work. I
• 47:00
mean, the facials, the stammering in his voice, the you know,
• 47:06
all the little stuff he's been doing. And then to see that spot on
• 47:09
SmackDown, and mind you, I'm jealous as well because I've never been put
• 47:15
through a table in my time as the wrestling manager, and I've always wanted
• 47:17
to do it and we just haven't never got a chance to do it.
• 47:22
So I was a little jealous as well. But it's fantastic work. It's
• 47:27
it is. It was kind of like, you know, they make the
• 47:30
comparison with Day even the videos of this of the Bloodline being compared to The
• 47:35
Godfather, and it did feel like a hit from the Godfather when they took
• 47:39
him out and put him to the table. So and I think the last
• 47:45
time I saw Paul Hayman get actually beat up might have been by CM Punk
• 47:49
during the CM Punk Ryeback Curtis Axel time frame, So that was the last
• 47:54
time I think I can remember seeing Paul Hyman actually get beat up. So
• 47:59
yeah, just really really good television. It's gonna be one. It's the
• 48:04
him going up on the show is to look on his face just knowing,
• 48:07
like when he's getting hoisted up and all that stuff, like just so so
• 48:10
good. But yeah, one of the best ends to SmackDown in a recent
• 48:15
memory as well. And once again this is just one of the differences the
• 48:17
times between WW and AW is. It's just the television aspect sometimes is more
• 48:22
compelling, where now you're like, crap have to see what's going to happen
• 48:27
on the next show, what the fallout is going to be from it,
• 48:30
like whether it Paul or Triple Ah said the recently w is a movie about
• 48:37
sports, and this is one of those pieces where you can go, yes,
• 48:40
this is cinematic quality, like I erst been there today say that Paul
• 48:44
Hayman deserves an Emmy for his performance since WrestleMania with all this work with the
• 48:49
new bloodline. Uh And it'd be hard to argue that if you put up
• 48:52
his work against some of the stuff you see on television shows, Paul Hayman
• 48:57
could be considered for an Emmy. It's been that good. This is going
• 49:00
to be very hokey of a way to do this because I can't play audio
• 49:06
from my computer anymore during the podcast. But the pop that Paul Hayman received
• 49:10
when he told Solo Saka that he is not his tribal chief was absolutely epic
• 49:15
and it was a great Madison Square Guarner card. So I'm going to bring
• 49:19
it up here on the Instagram and stand by here because this is going to
• 49:23
be very very bad and not the way that I like to do this.
• 49:29
So let's see. I think this is it good? I mean Doctor Trey,
• 49:46
that reaction is epic. Yeah, I mean I got chills. It
• 49:52
was a little bit of the way he the way he spaced it, the
• 49:59
timing delivery of it. It was. It was very cinematic. It was
• 50:02
also very mope Mari Povich if you are not the Father, like it was
• 50:07
a little bit of both for me watching it, where he's like, you
• 50:10
are not my tribal chief. Only need It was like Jacob Atoo dancing or
• 50:16
something. Oh yeah, like I'm a hunter, Like I could just picture
• 50:21
like you know, Tom and Tong gonna say, look, Paul Hayman was
• 50:22
gonna say he's one hundred and fifteen percent sure that he's going to you know,
• 50:27
and then you know the dancing in the background. But yeah, just
• 50:30
so good. And I mean that's every time somebody turns against the bloodline,
• 50:35
you get one of these crazy pops, whether it was Sammy Saying or Jay
• 50:37
Uso and now Paul Hayman. I mean, people give a shit, They
• 50:43
give a shit. Yeah, And just the fact that Paul Hayman, who
• 50:47
is admired universally and reviled at times universally, got that kind of pop I
• 50:57
mean, how good does that feel for him to get a baby face pop
• 51:00
like that in the same building he started taking pictures of wrestlers. That's for
• 51:07
him. That has to be that full. He could retire tomorrow, he
• 51:12
could die a happy man, a happy man from it. But dear God,
• 51:15
don't leave us yet, Paul, because you still got more good to
• 51:19
put out there for the rest of us. So the second part in this
• 51:22
is I felt like that Roman was going to be away for a while.
• 51:27
I was thinking maybe they'd do something at Survivor series war games which would make
• 51:30
sense where it was like Solo's bloodline versus Roman's bloodline, or maybe even hold
• 51:36
them out to twenty twenty five. When this angle happened, all I can
• 51:39
think of was like, they need Roman at SummerSlam, Like there is no
• 51:44
way right now that Roman can't be at SummerSlam, because the crowd wants it,
• 51:50
and they could actually start if that's the direction they want to go,
• 51:52
They can start to build with Roman. Reigns returns in an epic fashion at
• 51:59
SummerSlam. Are in like the presumed assumed Solisakoa Cody Rhodes match with the title
• 52:04
at SummerSlam, they close out the show that way, and then Roman starts
• 52:07
to rebuild his version of the bloodline where maybe Jimmy sides with him again.
• 52:14
I think that's immediate. Obviously Paul returns, and then maybe he wins over
• 52:19
jay Uso and gets Sammy z Ain back, so that you have a match
• 52:22
at War Games like four on four or five on five. However they want
• 52:27
to do it where it's like Roman's bloodline versus Solo's bloodline. I think to
• 52:31
me this confirmed that Roman is coming back sooner rather than later than I had
• 52:36
thought as a fan. Yeah, because Paul's been so good in his role
• 52:43
that to make this move now was like my kind of clue that, Okay,
• 52:47
Roman's coming back, because otherwise there's no need for this to happen now.
• 52:54
I mean, we still haven't got some money in the bank, we
• 52:58
still haven't got the Summer Slam. You know, we still got those spots.
• 53:02
That also confirms to me that Roman is going to you that the Rock
• 53:06
will eventually side with Solo because he's going to need a mouthpiece to help against
• 53:12
Paul when these two sides go to battle, and Rock doesn't have to be
• 53:15
in the War Games match, but he could be the hype man for whatever
• 53:21
this goes down. But yeah, like that's also like when you look on
• 53:25
paper and you're like, well, Jimmy's not doing anything. Jay is probably
• 53:30
going to get tied up in the Wyatt six a little bit or something.
• 53:32
Is kind of my feeling on it. And then if Sammy loses the Intercontinental
• 53:36
title to bron Breaker, then you could reunite the quote unquote og bloodline against
• 53:44
Solo's blood line and it makes a lot of sense, and you can align
• 53:45
those parts to where it makes sense storyline wise to pull it all together as
• 53:51
well. Yeah, it's it's sentiment right now. So I just felt like,
• 53:54
Okay, Roman is coming back to gender rather than later, and that
• 53:59
reaction is going to be here huge. I saw somebody had tweeted out it
• 54:01
was a pretty funny line where it was like Vince, it took Vince forever
• 54:06
to get romanover's a babyface, and Triple H did it in just a couple
• 54:09
months. Because I mean, the crowd wants them. I mean they are
• 54:14
epically wanting the guy who was the biggest heel in the company to return and
• 54:20
lay claim to his table as the head of the table, and the Tribal
• 54:23
Chief, Absolute Cinema, really really enjoyable stuff and looking forward to this continuing
• 54:30
going on. And I'm very happy for sols Coo. I mean, he
• 54:31
is really coming to his own and is really breaking out here in twenty twenty
• 54:36
four. Let's get to the matches and cards that are taking place this weekend.
• 54:40
WAE Money in the Bank Preving Predictions that comes to us this Saturday from
• 54:43
the Scotia Bank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The first match here
• 54:46
is the Men's Money the Bank Ladder Match for Men's Championship Match contract. You
• 54:50
have ja Uso Carmelo, Hayes Andrade, Chad Gable, La Night and Drew
• 54:53
McIntyre Doctor Trey. Who do you like in this one? Man? This
• 54:57
one's hard. This is one of the first money that banks in the was
• 55:00
You're really hard for a pick. To me, I've got your Chad Gail
• 55:02
or Drew McIntyre or by two like to my two options, i think I'm
• 55:08
going to take Drew getting to win, even though party really wants to pick
• 55:12
Gable, but I think I'm gonna pick Drew getting to win in this one.
• 55:15
I'm gonna take Drew McIntyre as well. There's a lot of reports early
• 55:19
on that Jay Usso was the favorite in this one. I think maybe things
• 55:22
have changed. And I thought Drew McIntyre's promo on Monday's Raw, where he
• 55:25
was going to cash in at Money in the Bank is something that I think
• 55:29
takes place. I think Drew McIntyre cashes in, he wins the briefcase and
• 55:34
cash is in. I'll get to that later on in the podcast here in
• 55:37
the preview, and then that sets up Drew McIntyre for Gunther versus Guntherer at
• 55:42
SummerSlam, and I think that would be the direction that they would take.
• 55:47
And because Punk's gonna be away for a while, and I think maybe that
• 55:50
would leads to Punk taking out Drew McIntyre and we get that match eventually here
• 55:54
in maybe the late August or early September. So both was taking Drew McIntyre
• 55:58
to win this one. Next match is Eo Sky versus Chelsea Green, Libra
• 56:01
Valcarie, Tiffany Stratton, Naomi and Zoey Stark and the Women's Money Bank Ladder
• 56:05
match for a Women's Championship match contract. I'm gonna take Tiffany Stratton this one.
• 56:09
I want to pick Chelsea Green, but I'm gonna go with Tiffany because
• 56:14
I think Nia Jax and her are gonna have a partnership. Naya Jacks is
• 56:17
gonna get a title match at Summerslamp. I think Nia wins that one,
• 56:21
which then eventually leads to Tiffany Stratton turned in on NYA. So I'm gonna
• 56:24
take Tiffany Stratton, win them one of the bank briefcase doctor try all right,
• 56:28
you won me over. I was gonna pick Chelsea because Chelsea's my favorite
• 56:31
person to watch in this match, but having Tiffany and Naya on the same
• 56:37
side, and especially if NYO wins in SummerSlam, where now they're kind of
• 56:40
an alliance, but one has the briefcase and one has the belt, so
• 56:44
you never trust they can't trust each other completely makes a ton of sense and
• 56:49
probably more compelling TV than any think we've got out of Bailey since winning a
• 56:52
WrestleMania. So I'm gonna take Tiffany Stratton as well, so you kind of
• 56:55
maybe flip my pick there, and and I'm okay with that one. The
• 57:00
next match is Sammy Zain defend the Inter CONTINENTLD Champions against bron Breaker. Who
• 57:02
do you like this one not to try? I kind of alluded if we're
• 57:06
gonna go back to og Bloodline. You don't really want the Inner Connell title
• 57:08
around. So I'm gonna take broun Breaker getting the win. Plus, it
• 57:10
just feels like they're just gonna rocket ship this guy as far at the ladder
• 57:14
they can go. I got bron Breaker winning the Inner Connell title. I'm
• 57:17
gonna take Sammy's ain because I feel like Sammy's ain is wes Lee to me.
• 57:22
Now, when Wesley held a North American championship, I always thought Wesley
• 57:24
was gonna lose. And I love Sammy. Sammy's one of my favorites.
• 57:29
But I think Sammy overcomes these odds again and I think he defeats bron Breaker,
• 57:31
which will be interesting. I think they need to put a loss on
• 57:35
bron Breaker's ledger since being up on the main roster, and this is the
• 57:37
way that you do it. So I'm gonna take Sammy z Ain to retain
• 57:40
the inter Continental Championship. The next match is Cody Roads, Randy Orton,
• 57:44
Kevin Owens taking on the Bloodline in a six man tag team match. I'm
• 57:47
gonna take the Bloodline in this one because I believe Solo Soko versus Cody Roads
• 57:52
takes place at SummerSlam, and you need the bloodline to get some strong momentum
• 57:55
hanging into that one. So I'm taking the bloodline to get the victory.
• 57:59
Yeah, I'm taking the blood line as well. Plus, there's four members
• 58:01
of the blood line and only three members of Cody, Randy and Kevin.
• 58:05
Unless Little Jimmy shows up on their side, we can't see him. Uh,
• 58:08
So I'm taking the bloodline as well, just because I figure tongala will
• 58:15
be the deciding factor in that match. Interesting Tongaloa becoming the former Camacho,
• 58:22
isn't it. Isn't it Tomatonga Solo and Jacob fut two in the match.
• 58:25
I definitely think Jacob fuck two is in the match. Yeah, I think
• 58:30
that's probably the way that the ego because Tangaloa does have a knee issue,
• 58:34
that's why he's but he's also working more trios matches and tag team matches because
• 58:37
  of that. So yeah, I think that's a three. I think that's
• 58:40
a three. I think you got it right there. He's the one not
• 58:43
involved, so he could be the factor in the match. To decide who
• 58:46
wins because he's not involved, so he's the he's the the leverage they have
• 58:51
in this match. I'm gonna take a step further there. Somebody doesn't get
• 58:54
involved, but I think it's Hickeoalo finally debuting. I think Kickelo is w
• 58:59
W bound and gonna be bloodline bound. See, but then that makes me
• 59:01
wonder, like I still think that Hicelo may sign with with with Roman because
• 59:07
the rock would mean the person for the new blood line. That would be
• 59:12
interesting be the fifth person for Roman's blood line. That's an interesting point.
• 59:15
I like that point, Doctor Trey. That would be cool if if Roman
• 59:19
brought someone to even up the odds. All right, so good stuff there.
• 59:22
Botho's taking the blood line to win this one, and that takes us
• 59:23
to the uh last chance match for the World Have Away Championship. If Damian
• 59:29
Priest wins, Ronalds will never challenge for the title as long as Priest's champion.
• 59:32
If Rollins wins, Priests must leave the judgment day, Doctor Trey,
• 59:37
who do you like this one? Damien Priest defends against Seth freaking Rollins.
• 59:40
I'm taking Damien Priest to get the win because this time's out. Like,
• 59:45
if Damian Priest wins and then Drew cashes in on him, then Seth can
• 59:49
challenge for the title right away. Priest stays in the Judgment Day and you
• 59:52
still got all the tension building in it. So I almost take Priest retaining
• 59:59
this one and then Drew mcintarre cashing in on at the end of the show.
• 1:00:02
I'm taking the same exact thing that you said. I feel like I'm
• 1:00:06
ordering it a diner and somebody just has the same exact meal that I have.
• 1:00:08
I am taking Damien Priest to retain. I have Drew McIntyre cashing in
• 1:00:14
and winning afterwards. I do think that there is some hokey stuff going on
• 1:00:17
with the Judgment Day, whether it be Finn Balor or Live Morgan that gets
• 1:00:21
involved in this match, But Damian Priest does not walk out of money the
• 1:00:27
bank as World of aweight champion, but is still in Judgment Day, which
• 1:00:30
I think leads to a build where Damian priests and maybe has taken on Finn
• 1:00:35
Balor at SummerSlam. So I have Damian Priest winning this one, as does
• 1:00:39
Doctor Trey, and we both have Drew McIntyre leaving Money the Bank as the
• 1:00:44
World of aweight champion, and that takes us to Sunday Night, n XY
• 1:00:47
heat Wave Previeum Predictions again from the Scotio Bank Arena in Toronto, Ontario,
• 1:00:51
Canada. We have a pre show match here as Carmen Petrovic and Arionic Grace
• 1:00:54
take on JC Jane and Jasmine Nicks. I'm going to take j C.
• 1:00:58
Jane and Jasmin Nixon this one, Doctor Trey, I'm taking. I'm taking
• 1:01:01
j C. Jane and Jasmine Nicks as well, because we've had a lot
• 1:01:05
of Jay's on this show, so we'll take J J and Uh. We're
• 1:01:09
taking all the James I'm taking. I'm picking Jay's in this one. Next
• 1:01:13
matches for the NX Tag Team Championship is Nathan Fraser and Axiom defend against Chase
• 1:01:16
University, Andre Chase and Duke Cutson. Who do you like this one,
• 1:01:19
Doctor Trey. I'm taking Nathan Fraser and Axiom because I think Ridge Holland gets
• 1:01:23
involved, tries to help Chase you and then cost them the match. So
• 1:01:27
I'm gonna take Nathan Fraser Acxiom. I'm gonna take Chase University, becoming the
• 1:01:30
new NX Tag Team Champions, and I think Ridge Holland does get involved he's
• 1:01:35
not supposed to be there, helps them win. And then it also leads
• 1:01:37
to the stuff the tension between Nathan Fraser and oxyam Axiom as there as Nathan
• 1:01:42
Fraser is kind of focusing more on his singles career rather than their tag team.
• 1:01:46
Next match is Colonie Jordan defending the NXC Women's North American Championship against Soul
• 1:01:50
Ruka. I'm gonna take Colonie Jordan to retain Doctor Trey. Yeah, if
• 1:01:53
this match was maybe three or four months out and Colonie Jordan had a little
• 1:01:59
bit more time with the with the belt, maybe I picked stal Urca because
• 1:02:01
he was one of my people I was really impressed with in that ladder match.
• 1:02:06
But I'm taking Kilonie Jordan as well. Next match is once again another
• 1:02:08
last chance match for the NAX North American Championship. If Oba wins Lee can
• 1:02:13
ever challenge for the title for as long as Femmy as the champion. Opa
• 1:02:16
Femi defends against wes Lee Doctor Trey. Who do you like in this one?
• 1:02:20
Man? This one's tough for me because it's it's like we were talking
• 1:02:22
about with all ago, It's hard to pick against west Lee because every time
• 1:02:27
you think he's going to lose is when he actually wins. I'm gonna take
• 1:02:30
Obafemi though, winning this one, just because I think wes Lee they can
• 1:02:35
move him on to something else, or move him to the main roster,
• 1:02:37
or have him be going the crossover guys going to TNA. So I'm gonna
• 1:02:40
take Oba Femi retaining. I'm gonna take Oba Femi retaining as well. And
• 1:02:45
I think they could actually put wes Lee in the world title picture rather than
• 1:02:50
the North American Championship title picture, which is something that I always laugh about,
• 1:02:53
like it's like a secondary title I can ever challenge for again. But
• 1:02:57
I'm gonna go out chase the biggest title in the game. So ob retains,
• 1:03:00
and I could see Wesley going after the NXT Championship following heat Wave.
• 1:03:06
Next match is Roxane Perez defending the NXC Women's Championship against the Lolavice. I'm
• 1:03:10
gonna take Lolavice to this one. I think it's her time. She has
• 1:03:14
had a really really good build over the last couple of weeks, and I
• 1:03:16
believe in her to be a top level player in the women's division. So
• 1:03:20
I'm taking Lolavice to become the new NXC Women's champion. See, I thought
• 1:03:23
I get you on this one because I'm taking Lolovice as well. She's got
• 1:03:27
to capitalize on the win over Shana Basler and there's no I mean if she
• 1:03:30
gets wins Overshana Basler in an underground match and then over Roxdan Perez in a
• 1:03:35
wrestling match, that really establishes her. So I'm taking Lolvice as well.
• 1:03:38
And then finally the main event is Trick Williams defends the NX Championship in a
• 1:03:42
fatal four way match against Javon Evans, Ethan Page, and Sean Spears,
• 1:03:45
Doctor Trey. Who do you like in this one? I really want to
• 1:03:50
pick Ethan Page, I really do. I'm just having a hard time doing
• 1:03:53
it because Trick's still over with the crowd. I don't think any other three
• 1:03:59
people in this match are super over with the crowd. I know Evans is.
• 1:04:03
I think Evans is for sure. Yeah, it's kind of like in
• 1:04:05
that west Lee Bowl where he's the undersized underdog. I'm gonna take Trick just
• 1:04:12
because I think he's still the He still looks like much as I like Evans.
• 1:04:15
He doesn't look. It's the size batter again, like he doesn't look
• 1:04:18
he's not big enough yet or have enough in his bank to bank on you.
• 1:04:24
As far as credibility, I'm taking trick to retain. I'm gonna take
• 1:04:28
Trick Williams to retain as well. But I also want to take this moment
• 1:04:30
to say that Javion to evans climb in NXC is historic to me. About
• 1:04:34
four months ago he was working on NXC level up and he has gotten himself
• 1:04:39
into the main event picture and nobody is bad at eye at it. Nobody's
• 1:04:42
like what is this kid doing? There a ton of amazing upside here.
• 1:04:46
I mean, you want to talk about prodigies like Roxanne Perez, Javian Evans
• 1:04:49
is one of them. This is a guy that can be a face of
• 1:04:54
the brand for the next three years moving forward. I agree with you,
• 1:04:56
definitely needs to put on some size, but there's some well, Osprey,
• 1:05:00
there's a connection this guy has with the audience that is hard to find,
• 1:05:03
and it's exciting to see for someone who has been on XC television such a
• 1:05:06
short period of time and again not batting an eye for him to be in
• 1:05:10
this main event level match, so we both have Trick Williams retaining. We
• 1:05:14
will recap in review we Money in the Bank and NXC heat Wave on next
