- 1:10Speaker 4: Well, and you missed a couple more before that. I
- 1:12Speaker 4: think you missed like the whole week prior.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, dak I mean I gotta I
- 1:17Speaker 1: gotta ask you, I mean, explain yourself a little bit.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Well, I can't earn it too much. But let's say
- 1:27Speaker 3: Sunday I had a little fun day, and yeah, I
- 1:32Speaker 3: love it too much. Fun. I'm I'm not going to
- 1:37Speaker 3: dive into it fully on here, but yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Well, I don't care about what actually happened from it.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I mean for the podcast purposes. As a friend, I do,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but we got I gotta ask you about the podcast
- 1:50Speaker 1: or how important is this podcast to you?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Life?
- 1:54Speaker 3: So important? I absolutely love it. There's just nothing looked
- 1:58Speaker 3: more forward to than a six eight six him Thursday
- 2:00Speaker 3: Zoom meeting. I love it, grind out now it actually
- 2:07Speaker 3: I love being on here. Don't make it tear up?
- 2:13Speaker 2: Well, what's what's your value?
- 2:15Speaker 3: I bring electricity, the juice like I got you guys,
- 2:17Speaker 3: I'll jacked up before we came on here, Austin. Austin
- 2:20Speaker 3: was running last before this. We're all ready to rock
- 2:22Speaker 3: and roll.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That's true.
- 2:24Speaker 4: I'm ready once I knew Dak was at a little lost.
- 2:31Speaker 3: How about this, I'll make a deal and tel basketball
- 2:34Speaker 3: season's over. Unless I'm sick, I will to miss another podcast.
- 2:39Speaker 2: That's a bold statement.
- 2:41Speaker 3: And let's unless I'm sick, like then then I can
- 2:43Speaker 3: get out or if I act going on, but yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 4: That's our punishment if he misses another one.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Well, if it's Sunday.
- 2:52Speaker 4: You've already given up your Oklahoma sooner. You know, fandom,
- 2:57Speaker 4: So you know we really lost our our key. Maybe
- 3:02Speaker 4: we make him like roof Texas or something.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Ye's if I missed it because of what I did
- 3:08Speaker 3: Sunday just hit me in baseball bat. I we'll just
- 3:10Speaker 3: say that.
- 3:13Speaker 2: We'll take that.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, actually that's a deal. Yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 2: That and we're gonna make you on air sing some song.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah. I you know what in my mind, you guys,
- 3:27Speaker 3: because usually we do this in the morning. I didn't
- 3:29Speaker 3: know what we're doing at night.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, don't even don't even go there.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Totally on me. I I won't miss another one. Some
- 3:38Speaker 3: sick or I have something actually going on that.
- 3:41Speaker 4: That you are determined.
- 3:43Speaker 3: You know that you two can vote on if it's
- 3:45Speaker 3: reasonable enough.
- 3:47Speaker 4: We'll glad you're back.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Glad you're back, or you see l A week and.
- 3:56Speaker 1: The last three games of the year for the oh this.
- 4:03Speaker 2: We we said it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I guess the midway point that these last six games.
- 4:10Speaker 2: It was going to be a roller coaster.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And that's been the word we've used, I think every
- 4:14Speaker 1: podcast since then, because it's been nothing short of that.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Three games left, we head out to la in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: Rose Bowl with a new quarterback as Dylan Royal is
- 4:29Speaker 1: out for the season.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Coming off a I'm gonna I'm gonna call it a
- 4:37Speaker 2: heartbreaking loss that there are a lot of spellings. Yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 2: there's a lot of good things that were done.
- 4:46Speaker 1: But yeah, at twenty one to seventeen loss to UCL
- 4:48Speaker 1: or USC, how many times am I going to mix
- 4:51Speaker 1: up USC and.
- 4:52Speaker 2: U C l A this this podcast?
- 4:55Speaker 4: It's probably funny a lot.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Dak, I guess.
- 5:00Speaker 1: First off, I want to get your thoughts, as being
- 5:02Speaker 1: the big Lincoln Riley fan, give us your quick.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Take on the youth USC game. Almost the game.
- 5:11Speaker 3: We'll just say that son of a bitch got lucky
- 5:14Speaker 3: if if Dean ryo Ola stays in that game, they
- 5:17Speaker 3: went that game. Now, I told you I thought the
- 5:21Speaker 3: teeth looks great on Sunday or Saturday. Apparently didn't. But anyway,
- 5:28Speaker 3: it looked like the tief was just super scared to
- 5:30Speaker 3: come in the game, which was John blame. It's it's
- 5:34Speaker 3: a huge game, bad bad moment, you don't know what's
- 5:36Speaker 3: coming in. Yeah, it's I don't blame for being that nervous.
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's just a bad bad first start nerves all that.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Other than that, I thought I thought defense played well enough.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I thought, actually besides breaking your quarterbacks, like I thought,
- 5:53Speaker 3: actually both lines played decent, pretty good. Actually the online
- 5:57Speaker 3: d line I didn't. I didn't think they were horrible,
- 6:00Speaker 3: which is which is step up. Other than that, all
- 6:05Speaker 3: I say is, I don't know how doinglo is walking
- 6:07Speaker 3: on a broken fibula. I thought he was gonna come
- 6:10Speaker 3: back in the game there for a little bit. He's
- 6:11Speaker 3: staying on the signs, jumping around on a broken.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Do you think he's actually hurt or do you think
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's a conspiracy? See?
- 6:19Speaker 3: That's see, that's the thing is the actually makes fibula,
- 6:21Speaker 3: because there's no way you can walk off the field
- 6:23Speaker 3: with the broken Fibulah. Yeah, But the more I'm thinking
- 6:29Speaker 3: about this, how is that possible he was like limping
- 6:32Speaker 3: off the field unless he's just that's.
- 6:34Speaker 4: The extent of the broken fibula.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I guess it would just be like a crack.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and I guess three games left or not, you
- 6:41Speaker 3: can't really heal a crack fibula.
- 6:44Speaker 2: He's just having surgery on it in New York.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I'm not implying that it's I might even think what
- 6:53Speaker 1: could possibly be a conspiracy there?
- 6:56Speaker 4: That we can start this podcast right. He wants to,
- 7:01Speaker 4: but there's no point because he's already lost his red shirt.
- 7:03Speaker 4: You know, there's no benefit to not playing at the
- 7:05Speaker 4: end of the year unless he by TJ as a backup,
- 7:10Speaker 4: and he wants him to flounder the last three weeks
- 7:13Speaker 4: so that TJ leaves so that he doesn't have to
- 7:15Speaker 4: worry about a quarterback controversy next year.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I mean him and Dana got a halftime argument and
- 7:21Speaker 3: dealing to purposely faked an injury. So now he's out
- 7:23Speaker 3: for the year.
- 7:24Speaker 4: He's trying to get better.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Real fired, Well.
- 7:28Speaker 1: There are three games left, and we sit at six
- 7:35Speaker 1: and three, and we we swit down the one in
- 7:38Speaker 1: scenarios of of what's probably not even a one in scenario,
- 7:45Speaker 1: but I knew want to talk through how these three
- 7:48Speaker 1: games could go and some of the different implications, because
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think it could go a lot of ways, and
- 7:55Speaker 1: it's probably some that are more likely than others. I
- 7:58Speaker 1: believe we will be under the Uggs most likely in
- 8:02Speaker 1: all three of them. A chance maybe that we could
- 8:06Speaker 1: be favored at home, depending how the first two go
- 8:09Speaker 1: against Iowa.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But right now, as we currently said, I believe we're
- 8:12Speaker 2: a one and a half point underdog.
- 8:17Speaker 1: This week at UCLA Open.
- 8:22Speaker 3: A lot higher than that.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Didn't it ESPN bet has a two and a half.
- 8:26Speaker 4: I don't know if I ever saw any.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I though I was like three and a half fur
- 8:28Speaker 3: and a half, and I looked on.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Some highest I saw I get two was three, which
- 8:31Speaker 1: is right after the Riola News came out. What I so,
- 8:39Speaker 1: I guess let's start what if scenario of what if
- 8:44Speaker 1: we lose all three of these games and finished the
- 8:48Speaker 1: year six and six. Obviously right now we're not fighting
- 8:50Speaker 1: for a bowl game firth, which we have done that
- 8:54Speaker 1: several years in the past, but that would put us
- 8:56Speaker 1: at the exact same spot record wise as we were
- 8:59Speaker 1: last year heading into a bowl game. If that does happen,
- 9:09Speaker 1: and I guess, if you want to go off of
- 9:13Speaker 1: the betting odds, the most likely scenario is that to happen.
- 9:19Speaker 1: What does that mean or what where does that leave
- 9:22Speaker 1: us heading into the offseason.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's a little bit of a loaded question
- 9:28Speaker 4: because it kind of depends on why we lose the games.
- 9:31Speaker 4: If TJ. Lachief goes out there and just looks terrible
- 9:35Speaker 4: all of a sudden, like the the story becomes well,
- 9:40Speaker 4: just Dylan got hurt. Her backup quarterback was unable to
- 9:43Speaker 4: forform against Iowa and Penn State, which are both very
- 9:46Speaker 4: talented teams. De Penn State looks like garbage this year.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But yeah, let's let's let's say TJ looks I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 2: let's just let's just say average. I mean, he's probably
- 9:57Speaker 2: could look terrible. I guess let's just say that, right,
- 10:01Speaker 2: He's not great, but he's not bad. But we lose. Yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 2: let's just say, let's say we just lose all of
- 10:07Speaker 2: them by the spread. Mm hmm, gosh, I mean, what
- 10:16Speaker 2: what what? Where? Where? Where would your guys heads at
- 10:19Speaker 2: be after I mean.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Heading into the off season. I guess the bowl game first, But.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It's I guess there would still be a part of me
- 10:35Speaker 4: that's just like it's you know, there's part of me
- 10:37Speaker 4: right now. It's like whatever happens the rest of the
- 10:39Speaker 4: year kind of is just whatever happens. You know, you
- 10:42Speaker 4: lose your starting quarterbackiculus, two three of your starting offensive
- 10:45Speaker 4: line win. I guess it's only two technically.
- 10:52Speaker 3: So so do you think jesus see, I'm still sick.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Do you guys?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Do you guys think that the narrative should be or
- 11:03Speaker 3: will be if if they do, is all these three
- 11:05Speaker 3: games that just came down to injuries or whatever, because
- 11:09Speaker 3: because I don't think that's a good excuse because Latif
- 11:12Speaker 3: is supposed to be pretty good. Now if he does
- 11:15Speaker 3: go out there look like shit, I guess whatever, he
- 11:16Speaker 3: needs the excuse. But but every team has injuries, like
- 11:21Speaker 3: Penn State's lost their quarterback that they don't look good either, but.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Right lost their quarterback looks good.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't know you can use the excuse
- 11:30Speaker 3: injuries of the problem. I mean, you're playing two teams
- 11:33Speaker 3: right now that fired their coach, one of them lost
- 11:35Speaker 3: their quarterback. The other team, Ucla I'm talking about. I
- 11:43Speaker 3: guess it's looking better. You can use the excuse, but
- 11:44Speaker 3: the Penn State one, I don't think you use the
- 11:46Speaker 3: excuses for that.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Thanks Dak, I I'm down your path and I completely
- 11:57Speaker 1: agree I and deathly we're scared of not just er
- 12:02Speaker 1: on three scenario, but even a one and two or
- 12:04Speaker 1: maybe even a two in one, but probably the first
- 12:08Speaker 1: two that if that happens, and Rule kind of already
- 12:13Speaker 1: unfortunately maybe sensed it that when he mentioned on Monday
- 12:20Speaker 1: feeling bad for the seniors, and.
- 12:23Speaker 2: You know, on one end.
- 12:25Speaker 1: He I think the goal was, you know, to be
- 12:27Speaker 1: a playoff contending team, and now we're obviously out of
- 12:31Speaker 1: that conversation, so he already brought up how he feels
- 12:35Speaker 1: bad for the senior. It was a weird comment to
- 12:37Speaker 1: me because the season is definitely not over. But if
- 12:39Speaker 1: that's your lofty, if that's your goals and expectations, which
- 12:41Speaker 1: I think are good and valid heading into the year,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and now this is that's truly out of reach, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: get it. But what I'm definitely scared of is in
- 12:54Speaker 1: this scenario, just chocking it. Basically what Austin said is
- 12:59Speaker 1: chalking it up to en injuries and kind of brushing
- 13:03Speaker 1: it off and not addressing the true problems of why
- 13:08Speaker 1: we're even at this point, I guess and in some
- 13:10Speaker 1: of the games that have happened, and like to me,
- 13:17Speaker 1: obviously I'm not going to say you can't put zero
- 13:19Speaker 1: percent on injuries, because that obviously is a thing, but
- 13:23Speaker 1: I'm I'm with you, that's part of building your roster,
- 13:26Speaker 1: building your team one too deep, and specifically we'll talk
- 13:32Speaker 1: about it when we switch over to the offense with TJ.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Having people that can step in and doesn't have to
- 13:42Speaker 1: overhaul your system. And while I'm not saying TJ is Dylan,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and he's in, you know, a better option or as
- 13:55Speaker 1: good of an option. I do think you should not
- 13:59Speaker 1: have to take a step back. It's not like Dylan's
- 14:02Speaker 1: been an elite by any means in this two years here.
- 14:05Speaker 1: He's been He's been good, he's been good quarterback, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: there's definitely things that he lacks. So I'm really scared
- 14:12Speaker 1: of that scenario. I'm and and when I stay scared,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean that if I start hearing fans are one thing,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but if I start hearing coaches and players talk about, oh,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it was just unfortunate that I'm gonna I'm I'll tell
- 14:26Speaker 1: you I'm going to be out on rule very very fast,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and I will be vocal about it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Now. There's also I think the narrative right now is
- 14:37Speaker 2: not to make excuses.
- 14:40Speaker 3: But I don't.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think you can make excuses right
- 14:43Speaker 2: now for year three and and and where we're at.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I don't. I don't want to hear that. I think
- 14:52Speaker 1: our philosophy and some different things have to change. And
- 14:55Speaker 1: if we brush it off because we make excuse here,
- 14:59Speaker 1: excuse there, I don't think that's good for the future.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Go for a dog.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So the reason why don't got hurt is, like you said,
- 15:11Speaker 3: you don't want to mask on injury or all the
- 15:13Speaker 3: problems and mass does have. Why is the reason don't
- 15:15Speaker 3: got hurt because the main reason for the main problem
- 15:19Speaker 3: for the team the on line. Like, yeah, so that's
- 15:24Speaker 3: you can't you can't. You can't hide that anymore. And
- 15:29Speaker 3: that's I guess because we're gonna see now because we
- 15:33Speaker 3: were kind of calm for a little bit more of Latief,
- 15:38Speaker 3: how much different slash better is the offense going to
- 15:42Speaker 3: look now that you have a quarterback back there that
- 15:44Speaker 3: can move and massive offensive line? That's pretty bad?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Yeah. I just I you know, I don't think that
- 15:57Speaker 4: we're going to go into the off season being like, hey, God,
- 16:00Speaker 4: you don't need to fix anything. I don't think that's
- 16:02Speaker 4: going to happen regardless of how the year ends. I
- 16:06Speaker 4: think the team, I think the coaching staff knows that
- 16:08Speaker 4: our our line of d line need improved and we'll
- 16:13Speaker 4: have other issues to handle. I mean half of our
- 16:16Speaker 4: secondary is a senior.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but that to me is that to me is
- 16:27Speaker 2: year three. I mean that.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I don't want to have to reset and say, oh man,
- 16:34Speaker 1: we were you know, it just to me tells you, Yes,
- 16:37Speaker 1: that's what this group and the staff is believed in
- 16:40Speaker 1: to get us to the point of where we're at
- 16:41Speaker 1: and this year, at everything set up as we've talked about,
- 16:44Speaker 1: to have a very very successful year.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I just don't. I don't.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I would not see it getting any better if that
- 16:57Speaker 1: scenario plays out.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And you're right, I think.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I mean one thing is I mean, Doc, you mentioned
- 17:04Speaker 1: the offensive line. That's obviously, as we've talked about, the
- 17:11Speaker 1: most important piece to whatever you're trying to do. But
- 17:16Speaker 1: to another thing, you talk about Dylan's injury and something
- 17:19Speaker 1: that we said it all along this offseason and trying
- 17:23Speaker 1: to push it, and we had a Dylan Rayle to
- 17:24Speaker 1: weight watch that that hasn't gotten I mean, maybe marginally
- 17:30Speaker 1: better from last year, but it's not like that that
- 17:33Speaker 1: that was something too that the narrative was, Oh, this
- 17:36Speaker 1: is you're going to see a different dial't we really are.
- 17:40Speaker 1: He still can't run, he's still not mobile, he didn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: lose any weight. Maybe he transformed his body a little bit,
- 17:46Speaker 1: but like to me, it was all kind of tell
- 17:51Speaker 1: you what you want to hear versus what we're actually seeing.
- 17:54Speaker 2: And I still truly believe in college football, if you
- 17:59Speaker 2: need to have a running quarterback that can run to
- 18:02Speaker 2: be successful, I'm not seeing them a running quarterback first,
- 18:05Speaker 2: but a quarterback that can move and run.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And what's your offensive line is the likes of the
- 18:09Speaker 1: top five in the country, which we clearly don't have,
- 18:12Speaker 1: and I don't expect us to have that in the
- 18:15Speaker 1: near future. Well maybe unless we spend ten million on it.
- 18:19Speaker 3: How about how about we do this boys things right
- 18:23Speaker 3: the three quarter mark of the season. I came, if
- 18:26Speaker 3: we do this halfway mark or the first quarter mark,
- 18:29Speaker 3: Let's let's give our grades on how you think this
- 18:31Speaker 3: has gone so far. I'm I'm going to say why.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I wasn't even thinking about what I was gonna say.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I would say be minus.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say.
- 18:47Speaker 4: There are two losses, having to be two top I mean,
- 18:50Speaker 4: they're both top twenty five teams, which sucks, but they're
- 18:52Speaker 4: all they're both you know less some so quint loss,
- 18:57Speaker 4: the USC loss as are starting quarterback while we were
- 19:01Speaker 4: up in the game, which you know, so we get
- 19:06Speaker 4: into that game six and two. The Minnesota loss is like,
- 19:08Speaker 4: obviously the skin mark of our her nice little whitey
- 19:12Speaker 4: tities that we had on.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't. Doesn't that feel like that was like
- 19:16Speaker 3: years ago?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it probably be minus. We're definitely.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Minus for me, all Right, I was gonna go see
- 19:26Speaker 3: C plus. I It's just just how bad the two
- 19:30Speaker 3: lines have looked For me, is what's the main problem here?
- 19:33Speaker 3: I and how there's been no no fix or change
- 19:36Speaker 3: to it all year. It's just like, I guess we're
- 19:38Speaker 3: gonna roll with it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I will say we're lucky that Penn States down because
- 19:41Speaker 1: that was gonna be definitely a chopped up loss. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I mean, we're we're probably not gonna hit our win
- 19:49Speaker 1: total over of seven and a half. We could I
- 19:53Speaker 1: went two more games. I Mean that's where my head's
- 19:56Speaker 1: kind of that is we we we won pretty much
- 20:01Speaker 1: all the games that we've Yeah, we've won all games
- 20:04Speaker 1: that we've The games that we've won are games that
- 20:10Speaker 1: we should have won, and the games that we've lost
- 20:16Speaker 1: are games that we probably were projected to lose except
- 20:18Speaker 1: for the Minnesota game. So to me, that's where I'm like,
- 20:22Speaker 1: it's we have not man expectations.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah, but you're not looking at it through the lens
- 20:27Speaker 4: of Nebraska football in the last ten years, we've lost
- 20:30Speaker 4: the games that we're supposed to win. This is the
- 20:33Speaker 4: first year I feel like we won.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Correct, yeah, correct, But is that good enough in your mind?
- 20:42Speaker 1: I guess that's the question, and you can.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Get to it is. I mean, it's a step. If
- 20:47Speaker 4: we do this again next year, then it's like, Okay,
- 20:49Speaker 4: well we're but.
- 20:50Speaker 2: We're not gonna be. We're not going to be We're
- 20:54Speaker 2: not gonna have as many should have won games next year.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I'll say that. You don't know that.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Look you're already counting out next year.
- 21:00Speaker 2: No, oh yeah, I do know that. No you don't. Yeah, we.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Will you have this year, all right, weren't. I think
- 21:11Speaker 3: we've learned from the last two years. We can't look
- 21:12Speaker 3: at the schedule. Last year, we thought it's gonna be easy.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Indiana was super good and all that. With this this year,
- 21:17Speaker 3: we thought Penn State was going to be the hardest
- 21:19Speaker 3: game ever, and and you see that it's gonna be easiest.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Those are flipped spots.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, this year, we our schedule has been the easiest.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It's been in our lifetime, I don't say our lifetime,
- 21:32Speaker 1: in the last ten years.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Look at that non con next year, there's nobody like
- 21:39Speaker 3: it's I. I just don't think and I believe after
- 21:45Speaker 3: last year, you can't. You can't look ahead anymore. On
- 21:47Speaker 3: the Big ten side, we have no clue what these
- 21:50Speaker 3: teams are gonna look like coming in the year.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And last agree, I disagree. You can make a pretty
- 21:56Speaker 1: good assumption on what what teams?
- 21:58Speaker 2: What team? The only team this year that.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I think is out of place from heading into the
- 22:02Speaker 1: year is who Penn State. Everybody else has done exactly
- 22:06Speaker 1: what they probably have done.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I feel like Cincinnati was better than we thought they
- 22:10Speaker 4: were gonna be.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Yeah, Cincinnati. God, I can't think of any I'm trying
- 22:19Speaker 3: to back mark me not, but I don't think I can.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I don't think there's any other team.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Penn State is the only one that U c l A.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Obviously dipped early, but they're back.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I mean that we could get this out of the
- 22:29Speaker 4: way now, Hunter, we could you know, next year, next season,
- 22:32Speaker 4: we could just take it off. We're gonna lose all
- 22:34Speaker 4: those games, you know, what's the point.
- 22:38Speaker 2: The game?
- 22:38Speaker 4: What I'm saying, if things don't haven't even lost the
- 22:40Speaker 4: last three games yet, Hunter, I know.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Aw're in scenario. We're in the what a scenario going on.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. I'm saying we're in the one
- 22:50Speaker 2: three scenario right.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Now, But what if we go three and O.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we can go there. We haven't got there. I'm
- 22:55Speaker 2: talking to OE three scenario.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Yeah, you're three.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I'm out on rule and I'll be calling for his
- 23:04Speaker 2: head very very fast.
- 23:05Speaker 3: We yeah, we we know, Like like we've said before,
- 23:08Speaker 3: we know they're gonna say it happening and rules not
- 23:11Speaker 3: Rule's not any jeopardy anymore, getting fired just because oh
- 23:14Speaker 3: I lost the quarterback, lost a bunch of lineman, Like,
- 23:18Speaker 3: all right, you gotta go.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I'm yeah, that's what scares me, And it's to me,
- 23:28Speaker 1: that's to me, that's a definitions the sign of of
- 23:31Speaker 1: of mediocrity.
- 23:33Speaker 2: If that happens.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Now, okay, we can move on from the oh and three,
- 23:36Speaker 1: But that's to me, that's just probably mean because we're
- 23:40Speaker 1: not going to be favored any of them.
- 23:41Speaker 2: That's probably what's the most likely scenario.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But there's also a chance that we go the other
- 23:46Speaker 1: extreme and we could go three and oh. And in
- 23:55Speaker 1: that scenario, there's some probably good things that have happened
- 23:59Speaker 1: to get us to go three, you know, and those
- 24:02Speaker 1: things being TJ's very good, and the point has it's
- 24:12Speaker 1: proven if he's very good, he probably is.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Very good with his.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Legs and arm, yeah, and mentally in a good spot.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And then it looks like this coaching staff did do
- 24:27Speaker 1: a good job of finding, you know, a second deep,
- 24:30Speaker 1: two deep quarterback. And the good news with that scenario
- 24:35Speaker 1: is that it probably shows, I hope, the importance of
- 24:39Speaker 1: having a mobile quarterback with a shitty offensive line. And
- 24:44Speaker 1: therefore a couple of things could happen as a result
- 24:47Speaker 1: of that. One Dylan actually takes it serious to lose
- 24:52Speaker 1: weight and says, oh shit, it is important that I
- 24:55Speaker 1: can move in the pocket and lose some weight or two,
- 25:03Speaker 1: which I don't think probably is likely, but could happen.
- 25:05Speaker 1: We just roll with TJ and Dylan leaves if TJ
- 25:10Speaker 1: is very, very, very good, And when does these last
- 25:15Speaker 1: three games, because I'll tell.
- 25:16Speaker 2: You it will be.
- 25:19Speaker 1: News to the news if with everybody if that happens.
- 25:25Speaker 1: And again that to me, that's a good positive thing
- 25:27Speaker 1: for the future Nebraska football. If that, if we go
- 25:29Speaker 1: three and o obviously or nine to three, winning these
- 25:34Speaker 1: last three games is underdogs games we probably aren't favored
- 25:37Speaker 1: to win. Like to me that that implies a lot,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and I think that's really good for the program. And yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'm obviously in on rule if that happens, like I'm
- 25:50Speaker 1: I think, I think, I'm, I'm, I'm there.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Okay, well let's hear I'm gonna be interested to hear
- 25:55Speaker 4: where you're on rull with if we go two and
- 25:58Speaker 4: one or one and two.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I'm let's stay on three. And I want to hear
- 26:01Speaker 2: you all three thoughts.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Okay, well, owen three. I don't know, I feel pretty much. Again,
- 26:08Speaker 4: it depends on how t J looks three. I'm sorry three,
- 26:13Speaker 4: and oh, I think you're dumping back for a second.
- 26:16Speaker 4: I'm mike, no, no, no, no, no, because two of those
- 26:19Speaker 4: games is be like, okay, yeah, we should have won
- 26:21Speaker 4: these games regardless of if we have decent quarterback play.
- 26:26Speaker 4: You know, our team should have been Penn State, whose
- 26:30Speaker 4: wheels fell off at the beginning of the year, and
- 26:32Speaker 4: they just once their quarterback got hurt, they definitely weren't recovering. Like,
- 26:37Speaker 4: I think they would have been fine if Drew Aller
- 26:39Speaker 4: didn't get hurt. I think they would have been an
- 26:41Speaker 4: okay team. I don't think they would have been whatever
- 26:43Speaker 4: they are now not quite they're five hundred one under,
- 26:47Speaker 4: one over. I don't know where they're at.
- 26:49Speaker 2: They might be fighting for a pool game still, I
- 26:51Speaker 2: don't know.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I think there were four and four, so
- 26:54Speaker 4: they know they're.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Still three and five right now.
- 26:57Speaker 4: So yeah, so I think if Drew Aller doesn't yeah hurt.
- 27:00Speaker 4: I think they have six wins at this point of
- 27:02Speaker 4: the year.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I don't.
- 27:03Speaker 4: I think even without James Franklin, that would have happened
- 27:05Speaker 4: because I think starting quarterbacks matter, I really do. There's
- 27:10Speaker 4: there's You're still just college kids. We're not in Alabama
- 27:15Speaker 4: with Bryce Young on the bench. Penn State should be,
- 27:19Speaker 4: but we're not go for a deck.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Well, I was gonna say these these are teams only
- 27:27Speaker 3: these you're starting quarterback. You're like, oh, Ship, we're the
- 27:30Speaker 3: season's over. I I don't think the tief you can
- 27:33Speaker 3: say that.
- 27:36Speaker 4: No, partly because the opponents are playing, partly because.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Of how he looked in those games. Besides, you see
- 27:45Speaker 3: I guess I guess he looked like.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Ship, but Dylan looked like a world beater in those
- 27:48Speaker 4: same games. I mean, Dylan looked like he was going
- 27:51Speaker 4: to win the Heisman, and you know, right off into
- 27:57Speaker 4: the sunset. Yeah, I don't.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Three and zero, I feel I feel good. I feel
- 28:04Speaker 4: great about being in Iowa. It's a top twenty, it's
- 28:07Speaker 4: it's our first top twenty one, and you know, almost
- 28:11Speaker 4: ten years.
- 28:12Speaker 2: We should feel more gone just good.
- 28:14Speaker 1: We should feel great if we if we went out
- 28:16Speaker 1: and go three and now, we should feel great about everything.
- 28:18Speaker 4: I mean, prior to and prior to Dylan's injury at
- 28:23Speaker 4: half game, at half point half time last week, I
- 28:26Speaker 4: honestly thought we were gonna go three and one in
- 28:28Speaker 4: the year. So I feel like you would line up
- 28:30Speaker 4: with what I expected our team to do with a
- 28:32Speaker 4: healthy Dylan Roil.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And I and I said the same thing.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I would have been very very happy with the direction
- 28:37Speaker 1: of everything heading into last week if we would have
- 28:39Speaker 1: went three and one to end the year like and
- 28:42Speaker 1: and my point still stands, It still stays the same.
- 28:44Speaker 1: It just happens that we lost to the first game
- 28:46Speaker 1: of the four.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd be happy. I'm not gonna like, but I
- 28:50Speaker 4: definitely changes. I just I don't expect that that's the difference.
- 28:54Speaker 4: I guess.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yeah, jumping into like the middle scenarios, and here's where
- 29:00Speaker 1: things I think get very hairy. And for myself anyways, I.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I do think like you said, you just mentioned the expectation.
- 29:11Speaker 1: It does come down to a little bit of.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know what you expect and what you want and
- 29:17Speaker 2: whether you think that the direction things are going are
- 29:24Speaker 2: going to get you to that point.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I guess consider right now the goal for me is
- 29:31Speaker 1: consistently being a playoff contender year in and year out.
- 29:36Speaker 1: And I just my opinion is that if we don't
- 29:41Speaker 1: have a change in philosophy with what we're trying to do.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I'm kind of talking about offense more than defense, but
- 29:52Speaker 1: just in how we play, I don't think we're going
- 29:57Speaker 1: to get there.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I just don't believe it.
- 30:01Speaker 1: And and when the philosophy that I'm talking about in
- 30:03Speaker 1: the style is Iowa Minnesota football, and and that starts
- 30:12Speaker 1: by building an offensive line, it.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Starts program has mobile quarterbacks or historically correct.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, a version of it. What do you want, Hunter,
- 30:24Speaker 2: A version of it? You want everything? I want? Yeah?
- 30:27Speaker 2: I want to be. I want to be. I want
- 30:29Speaker 2: to I want a strong offensive line, a run first quarterback,
- 30:33Speaker 2: or a mobile quarterback that can move about. He said it.
- 30:37Speaker 4: It wasn't just.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Want to run first quarterback. I would like that, but
- 30:41Speaker 2: more than.
- 30:43Speaker 3: What he's saying, that's what I'm hearing.
- 30:46Speaker 1: So what I'm saying is I don't think that we're
- 30:49Speaker 1: going to get there. I don't if we continue with
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I don't know what we're trying to do. That's the problem.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I was going to send out a survey, maybe we'll
- 30:58Speaker 1: do it after this week to people like what what
- 31:01Speaker 1: is what is our philosophy?
- 31:02Speaker 2: Our identity is a program? Because here's here's what's frustrating.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Rule has stated that's what he wants to be and
- 31:10Speaker 1: what he believes in, But that's not what's happening because
- 31:14Speaker 1: we're not.
- 31:15Speaker 2: He's saying it, but it's not. He doesn't know how
- 31:18Speaker 2: to do it.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Because our offensive line is not good and that was
- 31:22Speaker 1: one this year that we didn't have.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Much concern if we thought it was gonna better. Well,
- 31:26Speaker 2: clearly it's not good.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And then you have the element of Dylan's uncle as
- 31:30Speaker 1: the offensive lines coach, like those things need to change,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and if they don't change, why the hell should anybody
- 31:36Speaker 1: believe that we're going to be.
- 31:37Speaker 2: A playoff contender in or not rule? And maybe in Austin.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I guess maybe into act both of you to ask you,
- 31:45Speaker 2: do you think that we're gonna that we're gonna make
- 31:47Speaker 2: a change and go get offensive lineman next year?
- 31:50Speaker 1: Do you believe that that's what we're going to do
- 31:52Speaker 1: if we end up going at whatever seven and five
- 31:55Speaker 1: or eight and four last.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Year, two of our starters are two of our starters
- 31:59Speaker 4: this year are transfer that we got.
- 32:02Speaker 2: The okay, and that's great.
- 32:04Speaker 1: How have they done when I say get offensive blind
- 32:07Speaker 1: and there's go get them, but get the right guys.
- 32:12Speaker 4: We've talked about the quality of offensive line and then
- 32:14Speaker 4: enter the portal, they just they just don't.
- 32:16Speaker 1: So I got a text from somebody that I affwarded
- 32:21Speaker 1: on so who knows again the truth of it, but
- 32:23Speaker 1: they said offensive lineman, good up, insive lineman.
- 32:24Speaker 2: The portal cost a lot just because.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Oh lady second Eric, who's his end guy? You can't?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just offensive lineman cost a lot. And so
- 32:35Speaker 2: far Nebraska has not been We don't.
- 32:36Speaker 1: We have not had the funds and money to pay
- 32:38Speaker 1: that pay them.
- 32:41Speaker 4: So is that a matter rule problem or a Nebraska problem?
- 32:47Speaker 2: Both?
- 32:51Speaker 3: Well, Okay, I'm I'm gonna sayhere we can get this
- 32:53Speaker 3: money from now it's kind of an off the wamb joke,
- 32:56Speaker 3: Well it's mine can go now? Is Nebraska is a
- 32:58Speaker 3: big ten alcohol sales start the year, so that.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Stop going what I don't know, I don't know what
- 33:09Speaker 2: that's going directly to nil?
- 33:10Speaker 3: But no, I if Nebraska doesn't, which which is next
- 33:16Speaker 3: year's problem again, if they don't focus on the offense
- 33:19Speaker 3: line doesn't get better than he's got to go like
- 33:21Speaker 3: that's the every everything knows what the problem is. And
- 33:25Speaker 3: D line too, like you gotta figure out that problem.
- 33:27Speaker 4: But the D line though, has looked good this year
- 33:31Speaker 4: or it's.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Down but okay, but okay, sorry Austin are Why why
- 33:37Speaker 1: should we be accept and be okay with our D
- 33:40Speaker 1: line being down this year?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Why is it okay?
- 33:45Speaker 4: Well, I'm just saying I don't think it's indicative of
- 33:47Speaker 4: Matt Rule's tenure to be like the DE line always sucks?
- 33:51Speaker 4: What do you mean why not?
- 33:52Speaker 1: I'm not saying I'm not saying it's a tenure. I'm
- 33:54Speaker 1: saying now in year three, why should why should we
- 33:56Speaker 1: be okay with having a bad D line?
- 33:58Speaker 3: There's there's really good to answer that.
- 34:01Speaker 2: What is it?
- 34:01Speaker 3: Dak lost lost, even the coordinator lost a lot of players.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah again, where where is that? Where does that go
- 34:08Speaker 2: back on?
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'm just saying it's year three now, like, like, why
- 34:15Speaker 1: should we be taking steps back in anywhere?
- 34:20Speaker 2: I don't.
- 34:21Speaker 4: I don't think it's fair to assume that every year
- 34:23Speaker 4: a defensive line is gonna be the best unit on
- 34:25Speaker 4: the team. Our defensive line is fine, it's not great.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Our defensive line is bad.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I want to go fine. I don't I go bad.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Like it's it's been almost as bad as the on line.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I would say, I just which which D line? Like
- 34:49Speaker 3: like you're saying about the line, I think D line's
- 34:51Speaker 3: almost easier to find transfer portal guys, have you got
- 34:55Speaker 3: any messages about that hunter? No? No, all right, we
- 35:01Speaker 3: need to find his inside. Got we'll get out of
- 35:03Speaker 3: you by the end of the year.
- 35:05Speaker 2: We No.
- 35:05Speaker 3: I If those two lines don't get better, I think
- 35:08Speaker 3: rules got to go by next year. And that's next
- 35:09Speaker 3: year's problem.
- 35:10Speaker 1: But it's got, like I said, it's gotta be it.
- 35:14Speaker 1: That's that that right there in itself is the identity change,
- 35:18Speaker 1: the philosophy change, and we have put a lot of
- 35:24Speaker 1: energy and focus in on Dylan and I'm not saying
- 35:28Speaker 1: that's wrong. I just don't know that we went about
- 35:34Speaker 1: it the right way. By yes, we got Dylan, well,
- 35:38Speaker 1: then we what we load up on him?
- 35:42Speaker 4: Pay?
- 35:42Speaker 2: Who do we pay?
- 35:44Speaker 1: I mean, Dame Key has been man and Isaiah Hunter
- 35:48Speaker 1: has been solid. Corey Barney's not even really existent this
- 35:54Speaker 1: year so far. Like Emma Johnson, obviously thank god for him,
- 36:01Speaker 1: Like I don't like, it's not like we went out
- 36:03Speaker 1: and got draft picks for skill guys around him. We
- 36:08Speaker 1: got some decent players, but you can, you can. It's
- 36:12Speaker 1: been evidence been shown that if you don't have an
- 36:14Speaker 1: offensive line.
- 36:15Speaker 2: It's hard to get the ball to those guys.
- 36:17Speaker 1: It's hard to it's hard to run any type of
- 36:19Speaker 1: offense whatever you're trying to do, if you don't have
- 36:21Speaker 1: an offensive line. And no, those guys are not the
- 36:24Speaker 1: guys that are flashy.
- 36:26Speaker 2: But here, here we go.
- 36:27Speaker 1: The other night, driving home, all I see is, oh,
- 36:29Speaker 1: breaking news. We get a four star wide receiver recruit.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I literally did not care, Like I was like great,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I did not care at all. I until we get
- 36:40Speaker 1: a four star offensive lineman in the in the recruiting
- 36:44Speaker 1: or multiple I should say, like, you just.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Got a five star this year. Wasn't Preacher a five star?
- 36:51Speaker 2: It was a five star?
- 36:53Speaker 4: Yeah, so it was Grant Bricks five star.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Could have I I'm not sure. I don't Maybe I
- 37:01Speaker 2: don't know.
- 37:03Speaker 1: But and again, recruiting rankings is one thing that that's
- 37:07Speaker 1: the starting point of maybe being excited about future. But
- 37:11Speaker 1: obviously they have to be good and the right guys,
- 37:14Speaker 1: like again Pritchet's it's a start in Rocko Spindlers at
- 37:19Speaker 1: a start. But that that's that That to me is
- 37:23Speaker 1: where we'll when when we're talking about Harry two and one,
- 37:27Speaker 1: one and two in the middle conversation, like I will
- 37:32Speaker 1: the message across the board from are we gonna sit
- 37:35Speaker 1: back and make excuses and when the year is over
- 37:40Speaker 1: and and and and talk about injuries and talk about
- 37:44Speaker 1: all this stuff, or are we gonna use it as
- 37:46Speaker 1: an opportunity to say, shit, we need some things to change.
- 37:51Speaker 1: And that starts with getting an offensive line. And again
- 37:55Speaker 1: going back to it's not like this philosophy thing that
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Rule has not said it before. He's focused.
- 38:02Speaker 1: He said that where we had to start and be well,
- 38:04Speaker 1: we got away from it. And when I say we,
- 38:09Speaker 1: you wonder how much of that is Dana. I don't know,
- 38:12Speaker 1: like Dana came out and said it this week, We're
- 38:14Speaker 1: going to be a run first team.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Hallelujah. Uh.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I think everybody and including myself, I'm gonna say myself
- 38:22Speaker 1: is included. We kind of at one point thought maybe
- 38:25Speaker 1: this Dylan's experience, the passing, get some talented receivers. At
- 38:33Speaker 1: the time that we thought, really, you know, I thought
- 38:35Speaker 1: we thought maybe this could work.
- 38:36Speaker 2: The way this season started. Well, I will say we're
- 38:38Speaker 2: I was dead wrong on that, like thinking that and
- 38:41Speaker 2: thinking that that's how you could be in good offense,
- 38:43Speaker 2: and I mean, what what what? What's our offense? Is here?
- 38:49Speaker 2: It to me? To me, it's average, it's very average.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Still know what they like I said, identity wise? What
- 38:57Speaker 3: they I think I.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Heard the numbers like as far as is where we're
- 39:00Speaker 1: ranking right now, we're in the forties and fifties and
- 39:02Speaker 1: about a lot of categories like, yeah, it's very it's
- 39:06Speaker 1: very average, which again it is. I guess you can
- 39:08Speaker 1: say that is a step up. But if your goal
- 39:12Speaker 1: is to be competing in the college football playoffs, the
- 39:19Speaker 1: question is are we gonna see the improvement in that
- 39:24Speaker 1: with our current style and philosophy, so well, we can move into.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Offensive talk too. I think that's my kind of The
- 39:33Speaker 2: next topic I want to talk about was was it's
- 39:36Speaker 2: what the offense is going to look like this week specifically?
- 39:43Speaker 2: We can move there.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I mean, I hear what you're saying. I think I
- 39:48Speaker 4: disagree with some of the points. I still think, you know,
- 39:51Speaker 4: I think from where Matt rule came in. Obviously, year three,
- 39:54Speaker 4: we should see improvement, which I feel like we have
- 39:57Speaker 4: for the youngest team in the Big Ten. I think
- 40:00Speaker 4: at times that shows. But there I've caught myself. I'm
- 40:05Speaker 4: not worried about penalties. I'm not worried about turnovers. And
- 40:08Speaker 4: last week against USC with a backup quarterback game, I
- 40:11Speaker 4: straight up thought we were gonna go down and score.
- 40:13Speaker 4: It wasn't like a We're gonna lose another short game,
- 40:16Speaker 4: which I think is progress. Okay, I think it's negligent
- 40:20Speaker 4: to I'll end. I'll end here because you said it,
- 40:23Speaker 4: and you're right.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Here's what we fixed.
- 40:28Speaker 1: We fixed the turnovers and the penalties and made it
- 40:31Speaker 1: clean football from beating ourselves basically in stupid ways like
- 40:39Speaker 1: that like that, that's.
- 40:40Speaker 2: What we have now.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I think overcame from the Scott Frost era, and I
- 40:46Speaker 1: completely agree with that, and I completely agree that's progress.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I guess I'm already and maybe that's not it's not
- 40:55Speaker 1: right to jump to the next next step of it.
- 40:59Speaker 1: But what I have moved on now to say, Okay,
- 41:03Speaker 1: we checked that box, We've improved there. Now can we
- 41:08Speaker 1: take the next step? So yeah, okay, yeah, checking that box.
- 41:14Speaker 1: That should get you to six wins, and we are.
- 41:18Speaker 1: So that's great, and I've kind of moved on to
- 41:22Speaker 1: the next step of elevating us to you known eight nine,
- 41:25Speaker 1: ten wins college football playoff conversation, specifically not to get
- 41:32Speaker 1: into our schedule again. I think this year was an
- 41:34Speaker 1: opportunity to do it where future years are going to
- 41:36Speaker 1: be more a little more difficult. That's where my head's
- 41:38Speaker 1: going now with all this conversation. But you're right from
- 41:42Speaker 1: the turnover standpoint and penalty standpoint and cleaning things up.
- 41:48Speaker 4: And I think with our current offensive line, defensive line,
- 41:50Speaker 4: with a healthy Donor, I believe we would be regardless
- 41:55Speaker 4: of how the year shakes out, I think we would
- 41:57Speaker 4: have been an eight win team. Regardless. I think it
- 42:00Speaker 4: would have gone two and four for sure too. To
- 42:03Speaker 4: the last four games.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Yeah, enough of this negativity hunter, which when you're talking
- 42:08Speaker 3: about excuses, I'm over excuses. You can't no more excuses.
- 42:13Speaker 3: F the f those It's like you you you gotta
- 42:15Speaker 3: you gotta own up to anyway anyway, not this negativity here.
- 42:21Speaker 3: What's one part that improved the most?
- 42:25Speaker 2: What?
- 42:25Speaker 3: What what's one unit of the ball that has improved?
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, there you go.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Yep, we we forgot about them. You gotta you gotta
- 42:35Speaker 3: get that credit. I mean, it's a lot of seculer,
- 42:37Speaker 3: but you got to give that credit to a rule too.
- 42:39Speaker 3: He went out and found Eckler. He's like, we got
- 42:41Speaker 3: to improve this part, which which makes me I think
- 42:44Speaker 3: he's gonna well, they have to go improve the online
- 42:48Speaker 3: d line. The fact that he went out there and like,
- 42:51Speaker 3: all right, this is the main problem coming in, Like
- 42:53Speaker 3: like I'm in the year that probably was the main
- 42:55Speaker 3: concern for the team was how bad that special teams?
- 42:57Speaker 4: The unit is most has been pretty good about pivoting. Well,
- 43:00Speaker 4: we need to talk about UCLA, but he's been pretty good.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Like our offense was looking bad. He demoted his his
- 43:07Speaker 4: coach and brought in a offensive coordinator midseason.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Hoping that we're not going to get clouded and overshadowed
- 43:16Speaker 1: into the Dylan Royola's uncle conversation, because it's elephant in
- 43:22Speaker 1: the room right now as far as what the unit
- 43:24Speaker 1: that needs to improve, and it just happens.
- 43:27Speaker 2: To be a relation there. So I get this.
- 43:31Speaker 1: These last three seasons are games starting with UCLA this week,
- 43:36Speaker 1: Like it still is going to tell us a lot
- 43:37Speaker 1: about the program.
- 43:38Speaker 2: It's not like.
- 43:40Speaker 1: As a fan you should just be out and don't
- 43:43Speaker 1: care anymore and move on. Like there's definitely reasons to
- 43:47Speaker 1: be pissed off and frustrated and and there's there's also
- 43:52Speaker 1: part of me that you know what, there's there He.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Still finished his year three and zero.
- 43:55Speaker 1: That shows that some right decisions and thoughts are being made.
- 44:00Speaker 1: And TJ Latif starting at quarterback this week, and knowing
- 44:05Speaker 1: that he's starting at quarterback, I think after the game,
- 44:07Speaker 1: before the news came out about Dylan being out, he
- 44:10Speaker 1: didn't know what how much Dylan was gonna play.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Well, now we know, and again not saying bless his soul.
- 44:18Speaker 1: That you know Dylan got hurt, but it's it's at
- 44:21Speaker 1: least we know, you know, for the rest of the year,
- 44:23Speaker 1: we have to build an offense and identity and whatever
- 44:26Speaker 1: that looks like around TJ to make him comfortable as
- 44:28Speaker 1: as a freshman. Uh and whatever that playbook looks like
- 44:35Speaker 1: it needs to fit his strengths. Yeah, the offense is
- 44:38Speaker 1: going to probably look different and talk about the identity
- 44:43Speaker 1: and what I want, It's gonna look a lot more
- 44:46Speaker 1: like what I want.
- 44:49Speaker 2: And if things go very very well, then I.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Think it's a very good sign because it might have
- 44:56Speaker 1: shown everybody this is is good now.
- 45:01Speaker 2: And also a part of it that t J could.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Just be a very very poor passing quarterback and he
- 45:06Speaker 1: doesn't have any.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Billy.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Hey, can we dive in that real quick?
- 45:12Speaker 2: That's what we're talking about, nak.
- 45:14Speaker 3: No, I'm talking about I'm talking about Latif.
- 45:15Speaker 2: If he's trusts that we're talking about, well, okay, let's.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Let's dive into that real quick.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Man.
- 45:23Speaker 3: If a team struggles like just looks terrible, there's I
- 45:28Speaker 3: just don't think Husker fans give me me too. I
- 45:31Speaker 3: won't be out of him. I don't even be out
- 45:32Speaker 3: of him. He's a true freshman, got thrown in the fire. Basically,
- 45:36Speaker 3: I just don't think. I don't think three games should
- 45:39Speaker 3: be what people judge him on.
- 45:43Speaker 4: No, but but you kind of have to if he
- 45:46Speaker 4: comes out and he has another three football game, just
- 45:50Speaker 4: build and play style wise, Jeff Simms is gonna be
- 45:53Speaker 4: the first thing that comes to people speaking of him.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I don't know if this is fake backfall player of
- 45:59Speaker 3: the week or now whatever you like. Eight rushing yard
- 46:03Speaker 3: yep bike tell player the leak right there, Jeff SAMs,
- 46:05Speaker 3: I told you guys, use that the good But all right,
- 46:06Speaker 3: that's that's enough, Jeff Simstock.
- 46:07Speaker 1: So that.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Fumbles Austin, You're right, is the number one. Protecting the ball.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Let's just say it in general interceptions, but protecting the
- 46:17Speaker 1: ball is that the thing that we just talked about
- 46:19Speaker 1: that we've overcome and as a program, and a lot
- 46:22Speaker 1: of that is thanks to Dylan, Like we can't take
- 46:26Speaker 1: a step back with TJ.
- 46:27Speaker 2: And that's that's the scary part.
- 46:29Speaker 1: That's the fear I think from a lot of Nebraska
- 46:31Speaker 1: fans heading into this game is that in itself. I
- 46:38Speaker 1: think if if you don't turn the ball over, you're
- 46:40Speaker 1: in this game. You're not getting blown out. But the
- 46:43Speaker 1: way that you lose this game twenty eight to ten
- 46:45Speaker 1: is if you have three turnovers.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yep, it sure is, guy. I think I think we're
- 46:53Speaker 4: gonna have one or two for sure.
- 46:58Speaker 3: How now you're he's outside. Are you guys too for
- 47:03Speaker 3: Saturday's game? Because I with no playoff ups or anything,
- 47:07Speaker 3: are you? Are you guys just excited to see what
- 47:09Speaker 3: the Teeth does? Are you guys? Exactly?
- 47:12Speaker 4: I am excited to watch, like I'm excited to watch
- 47:15Speaker 4: the Teeth after you know, seeing him in those high
- 47:19Speaker 4: school games. I'm thrilled that it's an eight pm game.
- 47:24Speaker 4: I love eight pm away games specifically because I can just,
- 47:29Speaker 4: you know, go home. I'm done for the day. I'm
- 47:32Speaker 4: just gonna watch the game and I'm gonna go to bed.
- 47:34Speaker 4: I'm really excited about that. I don't know, I don't
- 47:40Speaker 4: really care about UCLA as an opponent, so there's that
- 47:44Speaker 4: aspect of But they're also the team that if you
- 47:47Speaker 4: lose to you feel bad, if you win, you don't
- 47:49Speaker 4: feel great. It's not like the non con games, so
- 47:54Speaker 4: I'm torn. I'm excited to see how the offense operates.
- 47:58Speaker 4: I hope we see more passes from TJ than we
- 48:01Speaker 4: did last week. I understand how last week shook out,
- 48:04Speaker 4: and it's a mid drive change, but.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we definitely, I shouldn't they definitely, but I think
- 48:10Speaker 1: we will, Like there's gonna be more time to prepare.
- 48:16Speaker 4: There was part of me that things, do you think
- 48:18Speaker 4: it would be best if you if you put in
- 48:20Speaker 4: you know, Moozie or some of those backup receivers that
- 48:23Speaker 4: he's been practicing with more that has a better I
- 48:26Speaker 4: don't know connection.
- 48:27Speaker 1: With Maybe I don't know what the how to practice
- 48:33Speaker 1: structure is what I'm not sure. I don't know, you know,
- 48:39Speaker 1: is he playing scout team? Is he throwing to those
- 48:42Speaker 1: guys like?
- 48:42Speaker 2: Is he?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not sure exactly, but I do think the
- 48:48Speaker 1: playbook is obviously going to look different and well, I
- 48:53Speaker 1: do want it to be a run first playbook. There
- 48:57Speaker 1: obviously is going to be some sort of passing element too.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And you know, the best case, hopeful scenario is that
- 49:04Speaker 1: with a.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Mobile quarterback and.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Emmett being Emmett the last I guess the whole season
- 49:13Speaker 1: the way he's been like, you might have some opportunities
- 49:17Speaker 1: to open up the field deep and linebackers might not
- 49:22Speaker 1: be able in DN might not be able to scream
- 49:24Speaker 1: up the field on past rush, and you maybe have
- 49:28Speaker 1: some time hopefully to throw some of those right now.
- 49:34Speaker 1: I mean teams are UCLA or USC did it, heck,
- 49:39Speaker 1: Minnesota did it. Teams are just daring us to beat
- 49:44Speaker 1: us down the field vertically because one, we don't have
- 49:49Speaker 1: time to even get a receiver down there to throw it,
- 49:51Speaker 1: so that takes half the worry off of your defense.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And then two, do we have the guys that can
- 49:57Speaker 1: stretch the field vertically? And the answer to that is,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I don't know. So hopefully that that's what we see
- 50:04Speaker 1: with TJ back there is there's a little.
- 50:06Speaker 4: More off of a bye week.
- 50:14Speaker 3: This is this is your time shine on a you
- 50:16Speaker 3: been banging for running quarterback. Let's see what we got.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Yeah, this is this building built building, I think building.
- 50:24Speaker 2: So yeah, your that your question about him excited?
- 50:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean obviously not playoff implication type excited because
- 50:31Speaker 1: it's not that's the window which was last game, which
- 50:35Speaker 1: kind of was the last game, but I still don't
- 50:38Speaker 1: even know if it really was it was an elimination game.
- 50:42Speaker 2: I I do.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I think this thing could look look good. I hope
- 50:50Speaker 1: it does, but we'll we'll just have to see. There
- 50:53Speaker 1: there's a there's a lot of elements here of of.
- 50:58Speaker 2: On the road true freshman. Uh, And.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Yeah, U c l A Is coming off U c
- 51:04Speaker 1: l A Is coming off the asked whooping by Indiana,
- 51:10Speaker 1: which we know what that felt like.
- 51:13Speaker 4: And their previous two games though they played Maryland, they
- 51:16Speaker 4: have Michigan State, which they both beat.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Correct, they're comparable too, like they are.
- 51:23Speaker 1: That's that's where they're at and going on the road
- 51:25Speaker 1: like we'll see and and well Nico, i'm yima lava, I'm.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Aliva is what I like after since ever since Tennessee
- 51:34Speaker 4: uh departure, He's.
- 51:38Speaker 3: I'm a suck. Is that his name is?
- 51:40Speaker 2: It was was he was he wasn't very good.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Well he's looked pretty damn good the past four guys
- 51:45Speaker 1: and kind.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Of came around so that that that's also there.
- 51:51Speaker 3: I mean, they've they told Penn State, they've they've I
- 51:56Speaker 3: don't know if there's hay that coach so much at
- 51:58Speaker 3: U c l A. That they are like I think
- 52:00Speaker 3: got fired, but they've looked like a totally different team
- 52:02Speaker 3: since they fired their coach. A lot. They looked like
- 52:07Speaker 3: the worst team, like no joke in Division one with
- 52:10Speaker 3: their head coach, and now now they look like if
- 52:12Speaker 3: they had whatever, don't I don't know where they're intermetz
- 52:14Speaker 3: you guys probably you guys right.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Now what he is, but I don't know either.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Yeah, they've looked like a totally different team, which is
- 52:24Speaker 3: which I think we talked about. This is the quarter
- 52:26Speaker 3: point this season what gaming gets least worried about. UCLA
- 52:30Speaker 3: was number one, and now now they look like a
- 52:34Speaker 3: true threat and should should worry.
- 52:38Speaker 4: I mean we're talking so ULA's defense is terrible against
- 52:41Speaker 4: the run. Yeah, they're hundred twenty fourth nationally, but they
- 52:45Speaker 4: are four twenty fourth nationally against the past. So now
- 52:50Speaker 4: what you want to see with a true freshman quarterback,
- 52:53Speaker 4: I guess you don't want to see that good passing
- 52:55Speaker 4: defense because but we might be able to move the
- 52:57Speaker 4: ball on the ground I have I honestly don't know.
- 53:00Speaker 4: I don't even to this UCLA team just because you're right.
- 53:04Speaker 4: The first half of the year they were zero and
- 53:05Speaker 4: four and we're like, yep, that was right. But now
- 53:07Speaker 4: they're they won three other last four and they lost
- 53:10Speaker 4: to Indiana, which they they could lose outter they lose
- 53:14Speaker 4: to US and they play Ohio State, Washington USC, So
- 53:17Speaker 4: I mean they could still look like a terrible team.
- 53:19Speaker 4: But there you look at their schedule and it's pretty rough.
- 53:25Speaker 4: But they lost to New Mexico unlv in Northwestern, but
- 53:28Speaker 4: they played Utah week one, which Utah looks pretty good now.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Austin he said, they're how bad they're rush defenses stat wise?
- 53:38Speaker 1: I I mean, I think that's obviously it doesn't vode
- 53:42Speaker 1: well for a freshman quarterback, but it vodes very very
- 53:44Speaker 1: well for Emma Johnson. And I mean the type of
- 53:51Speaker 1: season year he's having. And we talked about early on,
- 53:56Speaker 1: even after the Cincinnati game, how we got to get
- 53:59Speaker 1: other guys. Well, I am right now everybody's like, no,
- 54:02Speaker 1: we don't.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Just give it to him.
- 54:04Speaker 4: He's gonna get He's gonna get half of our offensive yards.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and get him, get him the thirty carries again.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's that's where he's at, you know,
- 54:11Speaker 1: right him, right him until he literally has nothing left
- 54:14Speaker 1: and he's been proven that he can do that. So
- 54:18Speaker 1: that that that, to me is is once u c
- 54:22Speaker 1: l A's game plan focus is going to be coming
- 54:27Speaker 1: into a game one knowing Emma's done what he's done.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Two, our offensive line, the.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Health status and the moving pieces and musical chairs that
- 54:40Speaker 1: we've had to sub people in with and then three
- 54:43Speaker 1: obviously a freshman quarterback. Like what to me, the obvious
- 54:46Speaker 1: strategy is put all of your energy and resources and
- 54:52Speaker 1: efforts into stopping the run at the best that you can.
- 54:58Speaker 1: And I oh, but I think what that could hopefully
- 55:01Speaker 1: lead to us is some more open guys in the
- 55:05Speaker 1: passing game and that that, to me, will help TJ.
- 55:08Speaker 1: I think because they will have to be so focused
- 55:11Speaker 1: on the run game, including the quarterback run game, which
- 55:15Speaker 1: way I think it's important, but that that hopefully could
- 55:19Speaker 1: bode well for our offense. Now, the question is, is
- 55:21Speaker 1: a week of install and preparation of whatever that playbook
- 55:27Speaker 1: looks like with Dana, is that going to be enough
- 55:30Speaker 1: time to.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Put that in?
- 55:34Speaker 1: If Dana is not the good oppensive coordinator that we
- 55:36Speaker 1: hope he is, I mean, it should be.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean part of part of the reason that
- 55:43Speaker 4: their ranks so similar to us, of why we're ranked
- 55:45Speaker 4: so high passing defense as we I mean, we are
- 55:48Speaker 4: good for number two in the nation, but it's because
- 55:51Speaker 4: our run defense is so terrible. Teams don't have to
- 55:53Speaker 4: pass against us, you know, So a similar similar to
- 55:57Speaker 4: US USC is defense as defense looks good. That's because
- 56:01Speaker 4: we're so bad stopping the run that teams don't pass
- 56:06Speaker 4: the ball against us, because like, well, why would I
- 56:08Speaker 4: have I'm got eight yards on the ground. I think
- 56:12Speaker 4: a week, I'm I would assume TJ's skill set. They've
- 56:15Speaker 4: been working on it all year. I don't think you know,
- 56:18Speaker 4: I understand you're not practicing that with your offensive line
- 56:21Speaker 4: and stuff.
- 56:21Speaker 1: But you know, I mean, good, that's what a good
- 56:26Speaker 1: coaching I mean, that's what a good program coaching staff
- 56:28Speaker 1: would do.
- 56:28Speaker 2: I mean you'd hope that he's it's not starting from scratch.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think, yeah, I mean, I didn't hear
- 56:46Speaker 3: what you guys saying. I was. I was looking. There's
- 56:47Speaker 3: something on TV right there. But okay, what I'm gonna
- 56:51Speaker 3: say I will distract it. Okay, my bad. Let's uh so,
- 56:57Speaker 3: this is what I think the offense should look like
- 56:59Speaker 3: this week.
- 57:00Speaker 4: There you go here, you guessed right, nailed it.
- 57:03Speaker 3: I was listening, guys the whole time. I was struggling with you. Anyway,
- 57:06Speaker 3: I think, but how bad they're running their own defense is,
- 57:12Speaker 3: which would just might be you don't really want Latif
- 57:16Speaker 3: to get hurt, so but you're gonna have to run
- 57:19Speaker 3: him more, which we were making for them run right,
- 57:20Speaker 3: all of which they refuse you. And I think it
- 57:22Speaker 3: could be Rollo's fault. Run him more, maybe maybe, And
- 57:26Speaker 3: this might get a hunter jump through the wall, break
- 57:28Speaker 3: out the option a little bit, not not the triple option,
- 57:33Speaker 3: just just to run him back option wise. And you
- 57:37Speaker 3: know what if it let him er at the ball.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Like.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you better explain that because those are two different things.
- 57:48Speaker 3: Okay, Well I want to make I'm not saying you
- 57:52Speaker 3: do ball the whole time, but.
- 57:55Speaker 2: You just said run the ball harder. Then you just
- 57:57Speaker 2: said to air it out.
- 58:01Speaker 3: Damn all right, that makes sense. But god I did
- 58:09Speaker 3: throw myself and lived there. Let's go back to watching
- 58:13Speaker 3: your TV all R Yeah, I'll I'll just now if
- 58:18Speaker 3: I lean have you one way the freshman quarterback, run
- 58:22Speaker 3: the option, run, run them all the time. But don't
- 58:25Speaker 3: don't be afraid to throw the ball like you like
- 58:27Speaker 3: Nebraska was last week a conservative on offense.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Uh I I guess I from a defensive standpoint and
- 58:40Speaker 1: stopping U. C. L A's offense, I I don't think
- 58:42Speaker 1: we're gonna we can't give up which we have it.
- 58:47Speaker 1: We didn't against the USC I don't think it can
- 58:49Speaker 1: get in the thirties. I think we want to keep it,
- 58:52Speaker 1: you know, a game in the twenties or less than that.
- 58:55Speaker 2: I think we have the ability to do it.
- 58:57Speaker 1: U c l A's offense is I think it's very
- 59:00Speaker 1: average from what I've heard and seen, Like they're very balanced.
- 59:04Speaker 2: They hurt themselves plenty.
- 59:06Speaker 4: Yes, they have a ton of penalty yards, and they're
- 59:09Speaker 4: bad at turning the ball over.
- 59:10Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm UCLA, I'm coming into the game
- 59:15Speaker 1: like most teams have and saying, let's run the ball.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Until Nebrassa can stop it. And I guess we'll see
- 59:27Speaker 2: if we can.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Like USC was a unique team because they were past
- 59:34Speaker 1: heavy and that was their strength, and they were the
- 59:37Speaker 1: number one offense and I in the country based on
- 59:40Speaker 1: some stats, and I thought we did a pretty good
- 59:42Speaker 1: job of obviously containing them to twenty one points, and
- 59:45Speaker 1: there are a lot of good things defensively that we did.
- 59:49Speaker 1: This game I think is kind of back a little bit.
- 59:51Speaker 1: While USC, god damn it, well, UCLA is still an
- 59:57Speaker 1: out West California team. They probably are going to focus
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: on the run a lot more and we gotta be
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: ready to stop it.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Like we do.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: They have a running quarterback which we have not done
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: well against well against quarterbacks.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: He's still not.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he still has an arm a little bit, but
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: I would say more so than I don't know who's
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: our most running quarterback threat. Probably Source has been the Yeah,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: he is probably more close to SOURCEB than anybody who
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: maybe Chiles, no Underwood, maybe Underwood.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm a say Underwood, but I don't
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: think get in that argument about who's the best running
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: back in the running quarterback passes the worst.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: I think as far as our defense this week, so
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: we are one hundred and twenty eighth in the FBS
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: and red zone defense and they're sixth in red zone offense,
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: so it's gonna be important that we don't let them
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: get down to the end zone.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Here's what was really good. We were bad in red
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: zone defense and offense the whole year we have been.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: We did a pretty good job.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Against USC on that last week we did, and we
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: all talked about like that that must have been a
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: point of focus here for this team, you know, at
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the halfway point and moving forward, and that was achieved.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: I do you think part of that was home field advantage?
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: I think the blackout crowd and the noise. There was
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: several times there is four and one and they were
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: going to go for it and they get a holding
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: or a whole false start call and moved them back
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: And that's that's on Lincoln. Y Yeah, I got them it.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: He said that the home crowd was worth ten to
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: seven ten points?
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but how much losing how many points? Losing your
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: starting quarterback?
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Also fair?
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: How much is UCLA's crowd worth zero?
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: Negative? Like like I I I actually think it could
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: be negative, Like the players come out like, oh crap,
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: look at this. This is this is like I might
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: put the players down for Ucla.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: I So if.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: We're talking about crowd, what what percentage you guys think
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: the Husker fans will be there? Because because UCLA fans
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: won't show out for this, it'll be like, yeah.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: The good estimate I heard twenty five thousand Nebraska fans.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Yeah yeah. This week, I really don't think Nico's like
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: that big of a run threight. I mean he is,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: he can he reminds me of who is who is
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: the guy that was taking run oh kind of my
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: album this week where he he he will run, but
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: he's not that big of a right, like he will
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: take off if Nebraskan let him, just don't.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: He has eighty one carries on No again, I don't
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: know if these stats include sacks or not, but he
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: has like four hundred yards on eighty carries.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: College it is that includes sacks.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Okay, so he is a good runner. Then I'm pretty
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: good runner.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Good research, but he's not.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: I don't think they're drawing up design runs for this guy.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: I again, are because they're leading roost rusher. Am I wrong?
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: They have?
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: They are definitely just like it, just for whatever reason
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: is usually happens when interim coaches come in. They decide
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to run their quarterback more. And it's right because they
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: don't feel like they have to worry abou him getting hurt.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Virginia text doing the same thing with drones. Yes, they
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: are designing more to design runs for him too.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: He has one hundred and forty yards more than the
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: next highest rusher on his team.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Yes, so he's a runner.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Deck Yeah, I will dak dak once again. Don't try
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: to make stuff that you think you know if you
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: don't know it. Don't make assumptions about Nico if you
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: don't actually know what they're doing.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: Well, I yeah, I know I should look. But every
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: time I thought about it, I've always thought him as
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: a passor that That's what I've always thought about.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: If you're insinuating that he's a he's a better passer
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: than runner, I don't know.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: He's a definition to be of a balance.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: I've always thought that he is pretty balanced. He has
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: seven interceptions on the year, ten touchdowns for I guess
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: four to fourteen total. He's been sacked nineteen times for
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: one hundred and eight yards, so if you factor that
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: into the rushing yards not, yeah, it's a pretty good runner.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: I guess that's like five hundred rushing yards through. Is
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: this their eighth game or ninth game? I know they
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: coming off this eight ninth game? Yeah, three and five?
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: I I personally be more worried about him passing. Again,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: he's a runner. I got that wrong. But anyway, personally me,
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: I've been worried about his passing.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I'm not because we can't stop the run.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: So I'm worried about everything to do with running the
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: ball right now. And I thought that gave us our
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: best shot, and we almost pulled it out against the
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: USC at home.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: That's to me where the focus should should lie. Run
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: the ball, stop the run. I think that's a very
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: simple for me. Let A win a lot of football games.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: Let's let's hear these predictions. We've talked enough about. That's
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: for football, My god, a little bit. We're running up
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: on time though, you know.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Twenty three seventeen Nebraska.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Oh, hold on, by, I thought you said, hold up.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: I think you said last week was your last week
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: they lose the Ucla. You ain't picking the brasket.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Did I say that? Yeah, y Dylan was going to
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: get her.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Okay, then yep.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: I'm trying to believe in my theory of dj Lati
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: being able to run it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: So we'll give me free past name. I will go
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: good God. Twenty four seventeen Nebraska.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna okay, Well, you literally picked my score and
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: added a point to it.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: I say, you said twenty three seventeen.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I picked my score and had a point too.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: I didn't big your score.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: Twenty four is a better better number to pick anyways,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I'm actually gonna go twenty seventeen Ucla.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Oh wow, I don't think he is gonna.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: Look good I think TJ is gonna turn the ball over.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: This is what I love. We spent the entire podcast
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: and me being negative Nelly in Austin, and then we
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: just completely are opposite.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: So is that the first prediction of Oscar loss on
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: the podcast this season?
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: No, I predicted us to lose against predicted last week
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: for US.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: And I didn't.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: So Michigan. I think we all three might, said Michigan, but.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: I don't know about that.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Real quick, let's i'll briefly mention Nebraska basketball.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: You know, we've gone a little deep into some conversation here,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: so episodes going a little long.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Nebraska. We beat West georgiast.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Georgia in the first half that was not pretty, in
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: a second half that was very pretty and ended up covering.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: Those games go though, like West Georgia's they're absolutely fired up.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Did you did you watch that game? Austin?
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: No, I don't picked ten plus.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: West Georgia is absolutely horrific offensively, like they are horrible
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: and all.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Credit our defensive system of the no middle fource baseline
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: if you if you're not used to playing it, and
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: we're very we're pretty solid at it. Yeah, like it's
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: it's different, and yeah, they did not. They did not
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: look great.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: We will obviously talk a lot more to Rascal Basketball
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: here as season gets going along.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: But we play Florida International on Saturday at noon. You know,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: games obviously that we're expecting to win, gonna be heavy,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: heavy favorites, and I think this team has some pieces.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure what the.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Next steps look like.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I think as far as what Austin I talked about
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: in our preview pot, a lot of that stays the
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: same for me, Like, there's nothing in that West Georgia
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: game that changed my mind on that.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Dak obviously didn't participate in that.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: Rank came out and shut out for two for three.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: So we could, you know, we could, I guess give
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: up those dreams of Rank being Stephan Curry. But yeah,
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: I was gonna say, it's just it's West Georgia. We're
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: not gonna read too much into it. We we've scored
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: sixty points in the second half after a slow start.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: That's kind of what you expect these games to be.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Is usually the other team comes in all fired up
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: with fisty, and we you come out a little a
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: little slower, and by the end of the game it's
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: put away.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: But walking away from that game often just just because
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: you look saties on about you sat in person walking
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: back from the game, what player are you most hyped
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: up now for the rest of year? Because I think
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: me a Hunter might have the.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: Same Marcus Lawrence, is that who Nope? Price Stanford to Stanford.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Freshman Jacobson Willo Nope, fragger frager that guy is for
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: That guy is damn good, like.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: It's Western Georgia. What I'm encouraged is he probably is
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: going to have a role on this team. I didn't think.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I mean, I was not a guy that heading into
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: the year. I was like, he's gonna be playing minutes
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: for us as a freshman.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Anyone was thinking he is going to have some spot
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: on this team.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: And here's the biggest thing. He shot it well from three.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: And that to me is I mean, you're talking about
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: being excited for something. It's gonna be a lot of
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: our guys guys that can shoot it well. Like I
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: think between Sanford and a season and rank we were
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: like one for fourteen from three or something.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: This last night's not gonna happen.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Ye you hope it doesn't happen. Having a guy like
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Fraker than dalso to kind of balance that out helps
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: a lot. So yeah, that's I agree.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: That was the one big probably takeaway from for Monday
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: night's game.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: And I didn't know he had the hops like he did.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: That down goes pretty sweet ill you.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, that was good, very good.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: So yeah, I wasn't. I wasn't on the Sunday pot,
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: but was dak right about three weeks ago. Oh, they're
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: gonna be pretty good.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: That's that's to be determined.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: Un I think that they're really good now after beating
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: a squeaky voice on the sideline.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: We'll play, We'll play f I you this week, hopefully
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: get a win one of it's probably what our third
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: hardest non con game behind Oklahoma and Creed.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Yeah about you, you're saying, yeah, that's about you. No, No,
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: I mean I would say New Mexico's up.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: There would be k State if you're looking, if you're
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: looking at team rankings, I think the other one that's
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: ahead of them is Winthrop really but other than that,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: it's next.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Oh, and I guess and I guess the factor in
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: that kid, Kansas State and Mississippi State game. That's the
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: second game of the Kansas City Tournament that we will.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Play and hopefully beat New Mexico. Yeah, I again, I
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: was here Sunday. You gotta come out in Nebraska's come
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: out in non com with two loss the last that's
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: that's the main goal right there. And that's and that's
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: my basketball green cap right there.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: And I don't know, they don't it's gonna be easy.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be probably have to win. Yeah,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: you gotta win the games that you should win.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: And I mean, i'll tell you what. You can't come
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: out like you did the first half and lay dud
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: like that against a lot of these teams. It's just
