- 1:50SPEAKER_02: As always, and we uh tonight's hits a different segment is Ruin the Friendship by Life of a Showgirl.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Now don't look too much into that.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: She told me that song, and I said, no, I won't do it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Well, on the way that I said it was so casual.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: You're like, what's the song that I need to look up?
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Ruin the Friendship.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: And I said immediately, no.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: I will not.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: I will not do that.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: I ain't gonna.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: But now she gets it.
- 2:18unknown: Yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: And you will too.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: No, I think I get it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: Might most honestly might be the most fitting song we've ever picked for an episode.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: But first, trend decoder.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: Before we get too far into everything, though, don't forget we have merch.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: And don't forget that it's fantastic.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: And don't forget that that if you get messy as my polished or pairs well with champagne and caviar bumps, both of the profits of those 10% goes to Ballet Woods Shop.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, we'd love to see our sip squat around town.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: Yes, we've got some merch.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: I'm excited to get some more going.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I did.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: We have a lot brewing.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: We do.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: We do have a lot of breaking.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Coming up, we're gonna unleash.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be crazy.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Well, speaking of sip squad sessions, we have our next one September 1st at Grow.

- 3:12SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be amazing.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I'm so excited.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And we have a really exciting event in the works in partnership with Rocky Horror Witchita.

- 3:29SPEAKER_02: So go find them.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: It's about$23 a ticket.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna want to miss this.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: It's going to be a really fun event.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: It's fun.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: And you can dress up.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: You can get drinks.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's right.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have signature sippies.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: So keep an eye out for that.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: We're still refining a lot of the details of that event.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: So stick with us.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: But we would love to see you there.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: $23.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna regret it.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: We promise.

- 3:52SPEAKER_02: And of course, don't forget to follow and subscribe because we love you guys and we don't want to we don't want you to miss a moment.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: It's time for trend decoder.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: And we haven't done this in a really long time.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Let's see if I'm still heated up like last time.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, you've been scoring so high recently.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: We crushed the last two.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you really did.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: You really did.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: I'm excited.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: I'm really excited to see how this is gonna go.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: So for those of you who are new here, Trend Decoder is a segment where I list off current trends on Instagram slash TikTok.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Because I am chronically online due to the nature of my job as a social media strategist.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Rachel is much less chronically online than I am, and thus making her a little less familiar with current trends that are on social media.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: So that makes this this set this segment a little more delicious.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: She has no context.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: No, she's going in blind.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: My algorithm is comprised of mostly cute animal videos, food, and occasional conspiracy theories.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, I like that, but you know cute animals are always on trend.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Especially if you like that, it's just always popping up.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: You love it.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: I do love that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, this first trend is called And for the Lady.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: And for the lady.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Crickets.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: The first thing I picture is someone carrying me a little charcuterie board and wine and bag.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Bang like, and for the lady.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: Enjoy wine?
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Or it could be going like that would be that would be like a good marketing campaign for like she Lady Garden Razor.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: Or for the lady.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking pampering.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking luscious experiences or being spoiled.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: On the right track.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: So are these trackers?
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: Are these videos or is this something that people just put words over?
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Well, no, it's both.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: They can it can go both ways.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: It can go both ways for sure.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: So like if I were to make one of these little videos for myself, I would probably do like maybe like a new Amazon delivery or a new like order that I made where it's like, okay, like I'm gonna put myself in Jen's shoes.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: I got my Vogue magazine in the mail.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: I got my new makeup palette, and I got like my wine delivery.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: Okay, scan that over and for the lady.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Like that's what I would do.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: If I'm on track.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Yep, you're on track.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: Actually, you nailed it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: And that is so funny because I don't know if you you I don't know if you've been on TikTok lately and seen my list.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: No, I've I've never been on TikTok.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: I recently posted a Sephora haul on TikTok for the first time ever.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I haven't been on TikTok, I swear.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: So, no, you got it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Like it's and for the lady, charcuterie and wine, and it's a beautiful picture of your hand holding wine with some charcuterie in the background.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Or and for the lady, a nice coffee, and it's like you're you're holding a coffee with a beautiful background.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: You know, it's that kind of stuff.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: And for the lady, whatever you love.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Hey ladies, like for us and for the ladies, it would be wine and prosecco, like we just did at Vibra the other day.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was that would be a good text overlay for that photo, honestly.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: It would be.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: I think we're doing that.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, so perfect score.
- 7:25unknown: Wow.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: You did fantastic.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: Good job, Rachel.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, two out of two on that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: You did wonderful.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: I think I'm getting it.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: I think you're getting it too.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Look at you, social girl.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: I swear, guys, I have not been cheating.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: I think my brain's just getting algorithmed up.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: I think you're, yeah, I think you're starting to get it.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: Like, you're well, some of them throw me like for a loop.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: But like, that's what I would do.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And I think, wouldn't it be funny?
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Imagine a lot of these give me other ideas.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Like when you just say that, like, I that's what I need.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Someone just feed me a phrase all day, every day, and then maybe I'll come up with my own company idea.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Well, and here's the thing like a lot of the times when that happened, your ideas are are often even better than the actual trends.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: Thank you, thank you.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: So if anyone is hiring or looking for a good brainstorm or like this.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: She's got the creative juices, guys.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: There's some juice in there.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: There is lots of juice in there, yes, indeed.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: All right, so trend number two.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Oh god, I hope this goes somewhere with that.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: My first thought was when I worked at Domino's and I put on a freaking visor.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: I put on a freaking visor.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: And I'm sure it was used too.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: So it was probably sweaty.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: They didn't have my size of shirt.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Of course, all they had was extra large from their past male employee that works there.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, good.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: They assured me it was washed.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: I wore that thing.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Oh god, here we go.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: Spiral.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: Actually, only cool girls have cool girl jobs.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: Like, I would have loved to take a photo of how I looked this day.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: Like, I was, I was even, I was, I was fit.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: I was like, whatever.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: So I didn't care really and I was making money, whatever.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: But I was wearing a visor, working at Domino's, delivering pizzas in my my good enough vehicle that I was proud of having.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: And an oversized, huge dominoes shirt, like very oversized, because I was very small.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: I it had, I don't I think it was it was a t-shirt, but it was like a fitted around the neck type of t-shirt.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: And it was supposed to be like that sweaty anti-wick material, whatever.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: Blue as fuck.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: And it was huge.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: And I think I tied it and tucked it.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, something cute with it.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: And it was when I was like 16 or whatever.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: But still or 17.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: No, I think I was like probably 17, 18.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Maybe yeah.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: I had I think I was 16, maybe even younger.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: But I had to deliver a pizza on one of my first, I think it was my first or second day.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: When I delivered a pizza, I delivered it to my ex-boyfriend's house.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: And I rolled up in my fucking pizzeria and a huge shirt.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: And then previously, if he hadn't stopped me, I didn't.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I just ran towards her and she got scared, like a little scary cat.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Anyways, and it was muddy, it was raining, it was really dramatic.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: It was so crazy.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Actually, my shirt ripped off of me.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: I've told you this story, but he saw me because she insulted my father's car that I was driving.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: And so I was like, and this is just the last straw because she'd been rude before.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: So I was running after her after she said this thing, and my boyfriend at the time reached his hand out and grabbed for me, but he grabbed my tank top and it ripped off of me as I was running towards her.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: So then all and I kept going.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: And I kept going.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: And so I was just running at her in a bralette.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: I was in the rain, in the mud.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: I didn't see the slow motion.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: She just went and like slammed the door, and then Brad got and was like, oh, my boy, my boyfriend at the time got me and was like, stop it.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: And I was like, fine, she's just really rude.
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: I've had enough.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: Anyways, I had to deliver a pizza to that little brat in a visor and a shirt that was something.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: But you know what?
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: I was still making more money than her.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: There you have it.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: No, I think it's money.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: Sorry, that was a tangent, but that just is what I picture like cool girls have cool girl jobs.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: And I'm like in my like crabby visor and shirt, like, yeah, we're killing it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: I'm getting money.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: No, people tipped like crap.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: So in that what was that?
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Like 2000?
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: God, yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: Something.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: 2008.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Something like that.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Stupid.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Insane.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Anyways.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: So I doubt that's the trend, but no, it's not.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: But it's amazing.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: I feel this is why we have this segment.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: I feel like I want to go sarcastic with these things.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: When you're like, cool girls have cool girl jobs.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: I want to like see, like, you know, like a stripper counter cache, like, I have 20 guys to dance tonight.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: Yay! Cool girl.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Or like in like this shitty uniform, cool girl.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, like when I was 16, I worked at Brahms and wore a Brahms hat and a Brahms polo and an apron.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Hey, at least Brahms has a good backstory.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: You know, yeah, that's true.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: I feel like it's more like wholesome of a place.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: You know, I like grocery shopping there when I only have to grab a few I have.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: I would like grocery shopping there, except for when I walk in there, I it still smells like work.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, still?
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: No, I worked there in high school, and so this is like 20 something years later, and it still smells like work when I walk into a bronze.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: It's not a bad thing, but it's just it does what it smells like.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: And so I usually just go through the drive-thru.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: That's funny.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: But I still have the same order that I had way back then.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: The bizarrist.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: I think that is cool that you did the thing.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Like a lot of people these days don't work jobs.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: Like, they don't work real jobs.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: They don't go, oh, I'm gonna work at this place, like this restaurant, like, oh, the Sonic or whatever.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they used to have to wear roller skates Sonic.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: I know that was so cool.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Cool girls have cool good jobs.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: That would be a good post.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Cool girls have cool girl jobs.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: Like rolling around in roller skates at Sonic, I would be like that.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: That is pretty damn cool, honestly.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Because we don't see it anymore.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: They stopped doing it.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: I know, and it is really cool.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: It's like nostalgic and part of the experience.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: I feel like Cool Girls Have Cool Good Jobs is probably actually legit.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Like it's like you living your daily life as a cool girl having cool girl jobs, you know?
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: Just like going around and being like, look, I get to go do all these fun things and talk to all these fun people and network and create beautiful things and collaborate.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: And have because, but I think that the maybe the point of these posts is like, hey, we have a good, cool community, and we are like cool, genuine enough people that we're actually creating something special, which is like what you and I haven't been able to do.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: And I think that's probably the real meaning behind it.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: But cool girls have cool podcasts.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Sorry for the super long tangent, but I know that that's probably actually what it is.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: That is what it is.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: But okay.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: So honestly.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: You're making them too obvious, so I had to go on my rampage to make it more.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: It was what it was.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I'm gonna give it okay.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: So for the first time ever, I'm awarding bonus points.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Ah! So you get a six of four.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Is it because I tried to beat a girl up in a visor?
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: No, wait, I wasn't an advisor.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: I was an umbrella.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: No, it's for the whole story.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: That was wonderful.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: It was great.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: And then it reminded me of my time at Brahms.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: And cool girls have cool jobs.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: And you know, when I worked at Brahms, I thought I was pretty cool, except for the hat and the I didn't like the outfit, but I love the job.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: I didn't mind the visor after a while.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: I liked it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: I thought I looked cute.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: We all have to start somewhere, right?
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: I would wear a visor again, like golfing or uh tennis.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: I just hate wearing fall caps.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: So I would wear what is that?
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: I think something.
- 15:55unknown: Ah!
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: It's alive! Happy summer.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: We're almost through it.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: There was a creature on our screen.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: It was a fly.
- 16:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Bye bye, fly fly.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, Dad, I got bonus points.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: You got bonus points.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: You got a six out of four.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: The first time ever.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: Amazing work.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: You did so great.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: So now it's so, yeah.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: So you were exactly right.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: It's like the behind the scenes of the cool, like the cool job, whatever it is you do.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Our new photographer.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: Hannah Crickman has been doing a fantastic job of this.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: She is doing so good.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Sophie from Jupiter House.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: We just had her on our SIP squad session.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: She is doing a fantastic job of that as well.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Love seeing the behind the scenes.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: It's so much fun.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: So tell your story, girl.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: Do it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Show us what you do because we know it's cool.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we know you're cool.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: You're so cool.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: And we know we'll support it.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: Show us what you're doing.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Trend decoder was fun.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Now, the the I feel like the funner part of that was the it feeds directly into tonight's theme, The Leap.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: And I guess I'm gonna explain now what that is.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: I involuntarily, involuntarily left my job that I've had for the last couple of years, and and at the same time, concurrently, relaunched Backspace Media, which is you know, you guys have been hearing a lot about Backspace Media.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Backspace Media was a company that I launched in 2016 originally, and it was a social media agency that I ran by myself.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: And I had some really fun clients.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: I still have one of the cards that you first made.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: The little skinny ones.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Those cards were so cool.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: I hope I can find one one day.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, that would be really cool.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: I might still have a ton of those myself.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Probably in an old purse of mine or something.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Those are effing vintage.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: And you know, I still have the same phone number, so they might still work.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: What's going on over there?
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so they might actually.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm I look a lot different than I did, and I had photos on those.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: I had four different versions of those.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: Oh no, yeah, I had the skinny one that did not have any photos.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: It was just your like, yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Just the backspace.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is so funny.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: So backspace media came about in 2016.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: I had had some people approach me about doing social media for them, and so I decided to LLC that thing up, and I did, and had some really cool clients.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: I don't know if people remember Jenny Don Sellers, but I worked very closely with her and ran her social media for a while before she even had her urban winery and her tasting room here in Wichita.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: We were I was doing all of her pre-launch work and everything like that.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: A black car service was my very first client, which was so cool.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Yes, I loved that.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Helping like marketing, picking people up from airports, that VIP mag magic and hospitality.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: So it all started there.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Had my very first Facebook Live show at the back of the hopping gnome called Backspace Live Happy Hour.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Every Friday at four.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: So there's a lot of fun things that happened with Backspace Media, and that went away when I went back to a stable nine to five job when I got divorced.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Hey, you know, both of those things happen.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, both of those things happen, that's for sure.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: I I feel like it's a really common thing for women business owners, though, unfortunately.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Like there's a lot of us that we are able to do the business, but then when we get divorced, we lose our benefits, you know, because the benefits came from the ex-husband.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: And so that was a challenge, and had to leave what I loved to go into something that I still loved very, very much.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: But I didn't have, you know, the ownership and that kind of stuff.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: The ownership, and then there's that security that is unfortunate that we feel like we need and must have, even if it's not aligning with us as a person, where we're like, well, we have to have a 95, like it's happening in front of us, you know, for let alone the benefits.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: But on top of that, just knowing that you're gonna have that.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: You're gonna have this much money in your bank account every couple weeks.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that is security, even if it's less than you could even potentially make with something that's riskier, especially if you have family on the line or in the car.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: So that's just just crazy.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: You know, I don't even have a family of my own, and I still feel such a pull to that, and I think it was trained into me by just society.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: It is, and yeah, it's very systemic.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: Everybody that goes down in that whole freaking hierarchy of whatever it is that tells us we need to do that.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's this yeah, it's the system that it's the culture of the you know, the this society that we're raised in that tells us this is the way.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: This is the way.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: This is the way that yeah, like go to college and get your nine to five, be in debt forever.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Be in debt forever.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not gonna lie.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: That's actually I you know what?
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: It's funny because I remember on this podcast many months ago when I paid off my bachelor, my bachelor degree, student loans.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: I still have not paid off my MBA, but that's okay.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: I did pay off my student loans for my undergrad, so that's at least done.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: But yeah, like you you're exactly right.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Go into debt.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, go into debt for something that might not matter when you actually make it to the workforce.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: So laughing crazy.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: That's what that's what we did.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: I know cool girls have cool jobs.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Like, I feel like this is gonna be the thing that we keep saying throughout this episode.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Cool girls have cool jobs.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: It yeah, I don't know, like, and so I involuntarily left my job, and now I'm doing this whole thing, which is insane.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: It's crazy, it's crazy, it's always a huge jump to do anything, like a new project, yeah, a whole new lifestyle, a whole new schedule change.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I'm so proud of you watching you how you stayed on schedule, you've stayed on target, you've been boom booming, and honestly, this great culture we have around us because we have been cool girls.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Aww.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: You know, we have cool girls surrounding us and lifting us up, which I think is.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: what what's helping right now and not to take the the you know hooray away from you it's the like this is what's so awesome about being a good person yeah and having such a good community is no yes you just you have so many more opportunities and you have more support if you were to fail or if you were to fall yeah a little bit yeah well and here's the thing like I think about this and it pushes you through it it's been pushing me through I've had some probably the most influential and motivating conversations in the last two weeks yeah and I've been away from my job now since mid-August so almost almost a month guys God time's flying time is flying in the last two and a half weeks I've had the most influential conversations the most motivating conversations with people like Sophie Jones boom with Hannah Kirkman boom with with Marissa who is also on Jupiter house with Sophie with shru we've with Shereca Shereca of course Giovanna of course Giovanna Giovanna Vu the so it it really it truly is the community that we've built and all the friends we met from through Giovanna oh my god at our party that was at our swap party that was so fun and all those women were just like on the same level they're on the same level they're all motivated they're all like they're I have my creative thing that I'm doing I have my creative thing don't you stop doing your creative thing yeah we're gonna hold you accountable and then oh speaking of accountability so last year in October I Visit Wichita had hired me to be the community manager for T-Bex which is a big traveling conference that comes around city to city every you know every year and I I threw a pop up like a pop-up meetup type situation tour was doing Taylor so trivia and so I put out this invitation that was almost a year ago now the year that they were releasing Life of a Shogirl which by the way Ruin the Friendship is tonight's it's different segment it all just folds in together I had hosted a Taylor Swift trivia I didn't host it I invited everyone to come to the Taylor Swift trivia night at tour yes they were in town they didn't know what to do maybe they just come and hang out and get a really delicious smash burger and a beer and talk about Taylor Swift and make some friendship bracelets.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: There's no harm in that we filled up four effing tables it was incredible those tables aren't small they're not we had a great time and then the next morning I went to breakfast I just went to grab a coffee and maybe a crepe at Greater Grounds and ran into Amy who I saw she was wearing a T T-Bex badge and I was like oh my gosh I'm also here representing T-Bex why don't we sit down and have a conversation or maybe she asked me I don't know it was fuzzy anyway Amy and I became pretty great friends last year she has Elijah's baby bucket list on social if you guys are familiar if you're not familiar you look it up because it's amazing she's doing this really cool Route 66 book tour guide right now which is so cool but she was in town last week and yeah she was in town last week and she and I sat down and had breakfast at Homegrown which delicious fantastic brunch whatever you the pancakes the eggs the freaking I haven't been to homegrown in a while I love homegrown but I know I enjoyed their delicious I think I've had their almond I think I've had their eggs Benedict they infuse their own vodka vodka for their spicy blow oh yeah yeah yes they do if you're into that yep and which sometimes yes it's a great brunch place yeah no yeah and they've got locations all over town oh not only that now they have them and all over they there's one in Arkansas yeah Bentonville there's in fact didn't you go to Chicago is was it Chicago uh no Alexandria Virginia just one in Alexandria Virginia that's why I thought Chicago I probably had to go to Chicago to get there that's probably it I saw you on Life 360 she's in Chicago yeah so she was landed what it was fun we had a delicious breakfast together Amy and I at Homegrown and I was talking to her about this situation the losing the job and being back out on my own but also like content creation and pitching hotels and pitching brands and user generated content being one of the things that I'm pitching to these brands and she uh challenged me she's like you know you're gonna you are gonna pitch you're gonna pitch all week long you were gonna pitch as many brands as you can all week long and then I am gonna DM you on Instagram every single Friday and I'm gonna ask you how many rejections you got oh like this woman is holding me so incredibly accountable.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: I love her yes and you know what she checked in this week and I was like I think on Friday no well Saturday morning this was a it was an interesting thing and she's also traveling so she's a holiday weekend this woman's got her hands full she's still checked in she's still checked in and she she's like so how many times have you been rejected this week I was like two but then how many times have you been approached this week I have been approached a lot this week it I have been approached a lot all month it is Tuesday and I've been approached sometimes this week and this week and this month I'm in the midst of a celebrity oh my god will you sign my cast there's been some very exciting no I draw the line I will not sign your toe for good reason which we can get into later Rachel has some adventures no we're going through your adventures yours are much more motivating oh my god okay yeah so lots of approaching like I've been approached a lot this this month and it's very exciting so I love that or the emotional roller coaster of going out on your own and not having a this stable job is absolutely unhinged it is scary it's so scary isn't it like I know that you've been through it a like a couple of times I have but you know what though I've I've witnessed many people close friends go through even being in a job and and myself included being in a job that they don't have that job security and like people aren't aligning and they are not talking with you about what's to come or how how you're doing they're not even checking in with you maybe correctly or you're doing everything in your power and you are meeting those numbers but there's just no like click for some reason.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah and that is very scary as well.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: It is so scary.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: It's it's like it's the same but different but it feels it still has a similar anxiety but being complete there all on your own I'm so glad that you have such a great network and you already have such a great experience I think it all comes back to just what is that it's the it's the something of perception like it's the fear of perception.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: You're fearing how people are looking at you which is why I love that she challenged you to do that and do all these pitches because I think that those pitches honestly even though you got rejected on a couple sure whatever that's gonna happen that's statistics.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah um and even then those people still might come back first they might I know second at least I'm on the radar.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah yeah absolutely and they may have just said no right off the bat because they're used to people doing that but then if they see you make a move and other people they hear your name then they're gonna be like oh hell yeah yeah well I should have said yes but also I think it just mentally prepares you for when people do approach you and they are like hey we see what you're doing and we want it and we want to work with you.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: And I think that's really good too all around but it is terrifying.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: It's so terrifying it's like it is like it's scary because all we think about and this is a big thing I've that is a lot of the stress in our culture is that we have been like programmed to think about only what is next what's in the future what's coming like what we do professionally what we do professionally matters.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: That's what matters in life and I like I think we forget about the connections that we have and the people that are so true.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: So when we say cool girls have cool girl jobs it's because cool girls are good people that are girl cool people have cool good people jobs.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah let's be inclusive here I guess but yeah I think that's what makes us able to have better jobs because nowadays in the market it's who you know it is all about it's who you know and that's exactly right and who you talk to and who actually knows you is not only your capabilities but knows you as a person at least on some level.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Well and I feel like so much of who you are naturally goes into how you work and it should.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: And I feel like that it really should like if you go into an like into a job yeah it's way better to go into a job where people already know exactly how you are what your creative style is what your communication styles are how you are in in casual conversations even.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Or at least a shadow or a whisper of it or like a word of mouth from someone else because that's what really sinks it in and makes me want to hire someone or makes like anyone want to work with somebody makes me want to work with somebody or meet somebody even it makes me even want to go to an event if I'm like oh you've told me about them okay I want to talk to them.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Definitely yes I'm gonna connect with that person but like it's just terrible that we've set it up to be like oh apply on indeed that's not gonna go wait for a robotic response like what is like and then no one's gonna respond.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: And none of the good jobs are on there.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: None of them no so it's very very tough out there you have to get involved in your community you have to get involved in some sort of network and even then it's hard to find exactly what you're aligning with.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah and the alignment is so important that's what I'm taking away from this most recent job yeah was the lack of alignment.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Like not to knock I loved the brand that I was working with and I loved most of my coworkers.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: But there was a certain alignment that was not working.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah and and the yardstick kept moving so you know that's natural to happen over time anyways it shouldn't be but it is but honestly in those instances it it's worked out for the best I think it has definitely worked out for the best on Sunday I was a little nervous in fact I was freaking out this Sunday I was having one of my bad panic days doesn't help that I was watching the testaments which is the spinoff of a handmaid's tale but just growing your anxiety with all this dark stuff I don't know why I do that to myself but it's such a good story.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: But no I was having an it's like when you listen to sad music when you're sad I know or murder podcasts like why why is this what works for me I have a door in my bedroom I can't do that anymore it doesn't lock if anyone's wanting to kidnap me go for it.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: No don't you can't I'm gonna beat you up that's right and so will I oh my gosh no but it is terrifying and I think that is the leap that you have to take is exactly what you've been doing Jen I'm very proud of you thank you I'm very very happy and you've done this multiple times and there are different types of leaps it's true you know I just want to use my friends that it happens though.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: Oh we can and that's the scary thing about a leap is you don't know it's the unknowing that's scary and it's also a good practice to keep making yourself do that because it is teaching you to crave the adrenaline of that fight to find something that you want to do that you want to build on.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: That is true there's a there's a lot of with precaution because I do I that's the thing too I love adrenaline and if I'm if I don't have something to seek or go after or be excited about in any capacity I get frustrated.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: Oh I do too yes and then I just feel like and and I look in every crevice for things to do.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: I do but I if there's nothing I like I can't do anything and I feel kind of worthless oh my gosh I know but I know I'm not I just feel like in this little box I'm not not there in the right and if you guys feel like that just keep looking I guess that's right keep going there's other opportunities there will always be something you gotta build another room yeah build another room we've talked about this in the past you have to build another room I don't remember what episode that was but that is so true it was one with Jennifer Short.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh started by the way we have an appointment with her on Friday but joint appointments with Jennifer Short yes I have color therapy I am in need I'm over here trying to fix this little flyaway because I need Jennifer yes we're gonna be doing some things on Friday it's gonna be fun hair date hair date hair date talking therapy Jen's gonna hear the whole spiel she's getting the tea yes Jennifer listening I know you are you know she's listening we're coming for yeah you're getting all the tea and by the way just so you know the very next day on Saturday is tea fest in NASCAR Fest with our lovely friend Nikola kinda it is right across the street from color therapy absolutely man that really came full circle I know she was playing it well I just I wanted I don't know there was one thing that I wanted to say no it's okay I derailed us with the no I derailed us with color therapy because we love Jennifer so much and we're so excited to come in for our appointments on Friday.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be the best can you imagine the content that we are going to create on Friday it's gonna be so much fun.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Give me them giant scissors I think oh okay so what I remember so I was having a conversation today with a potential new project what else is new this is a very exciting potential new project that I am very excited about clearly but I was telling we were having a conversation because it's it's important to make sure that certain things are out there on the table work-wise and process wise before you ever enter into any kind of working relationship god I'm huge on processes oh my god me too I'm such a nerd about it in fact I was at a client this client meeting this morning um with an yes backspace media does already have clients just so you know it's been a lot of fun yeah I was with a client this morning and she was talking I opened a spreadsheet that we have shared and I have like lines color coded for when things are done they're green if things are in process they're yellow color coding my sticky it's a it's a beautiful spreadsheet and she's like you are so organized I'm like this is the only way that I can do things and everything turn out okay like you have to be organized but that's the thing like when you're working with somebody you have to have that working communication and that understanding of how a system works oh my god yes and the rest of the thing I've tried I've tried to hide I've tried to hang a photo sorry I cut you off no you didn't cut me off I've tried to hang a photo with a boyfriend at sometimes and and even my father and or do any like manual project like a man project right and I'm like you guys are overcomplicating it and it doesn't have to be this way.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Our brains are both thinking the same thing and it's going to achieve the same thing.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: It's like a math problem.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: You can do it multiple ways but it's gonna achieve the same result.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah mine seems like it's gonna be a lot quicker and more efficient right but I want yeah anyways there's a whole thing you have to come with the agreement with someone you're working with on any project even if it's as simple as hanging something on a wall I know or we have to come together for a common goal yes or like a process of systems like cost I just love it.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: I get sorry I got to no it's like exactly what it is though like you have to be on the same fucking page and have the same goal.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Yes even with little things I like to talk through them.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah no it's important to talk through the the little things yeah this is what got me in and I do it all the time I think and it's true and I love that you don't see it as like me over like confusing things.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: You're like no she's just thinking through every detail because that's what I do.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: But that's okay because if Rachel sees my blind spots you know and that's why this whole entire thing works.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: And then I like you just like calming down my overexcited spots or or being or being like you know what I mean?
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: Does that make sense?
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: No that makes sense or you can tell if I make just because I'm like but what if this what if this and sometimes I give too many options.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: When we love options you can never have too many options to all that someone has to say is well let's do this one.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: If that doesn't work we'll go for the others.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: I'm like hell yeah yeah and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: That's fine I like option A through C is so good to have backup plans.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Like honestly who doesn't who doesn't you have to have a backup plan.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: I agree completely but I also heard someone say if you have a plan B, you don't believe in your plan A.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: No, that's not true.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: No no no no no no no no okay but I don't really believe that at all I don't think that I would feel comfortable living life like that.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah my plan B is always what's next but my mind doesn't work that way.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: My mind works 50 outcomes before anything happens.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: I feel like good strategy is to factor in if failing happens and I then you have a roadmap to go and it's a beautiful curse because I think that's what brings our anxiety you need to fail if you fail to plan yes too and I also said that I also think that's what helps our alignment is because we both think like that.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: Yes that's exactly right because we're both always like but we're still okay with it because we already thought about the other option.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: Exactly yes yeah that's exactly right yeah oh my god so what's next okay oh god can I talk about I okay we can talk about anything this is our podcast we can cry if we want to we can yell if we want to we can talk about anything so I have I want to bring this up because it's a little bit funny before we go into it's different.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Okay I think that when we were at Vivra the other day we may have had our first disagreement not fight oh did we but we had a we had our first disagreement I didn't even notice I know it was it was about the date of Rocky Horror on the rock oh my god that wasn't even a disagreement no it was it was a moment of confusion where I was like we're actually disagreeing on a thing like because I because I'm actually like this is never this is uncharted territory for us.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: But I started the conversation and I was okay I know what you're talking about now but that wasn't even like okay yeah we disagreed because we were I was like I think that's the right date she was right for this reason but I also do not know because there were so many things and brains and mouths and we jumped around so much in that meeting and everyone was so excited so thank God Giovanna takes fantastic notes.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: And that actually made me feel really good because obviously okay because I was over here stressing about it for the last month being like I'm embarrassed to ask Jen what our company is like and I'm like is this really the date because I don't think this is no disagree I was just a little uncomfortable for the first time ever I was like what do I I mean honestly good that you only got to feel it for a couple hours because I was feeling like that for weeks I kept looking at the calendar and I was like I was like I was like I was like what's our plan?
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: Like this date's here but do we have another one?
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: I was like is it the right time?
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Did I put that in there or did she put that in there?
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Oh that's right I think I did I think you did too but you were right it was right like you were listening just like Giovanna was like always and I was like no it's gotta be this next month.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: I okay our dates were a month apart from each other.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: That's why we were like I think it's it was very important that we come to agreement on it's because the next two months have so much going on Jen no but that's hilarious that you said that no it was not even a disagreement it was both of us just being like let's get our brains straight it's let's get our brains let's get everything let's get our calendar fucking on track honestly I know no honestly that was on my to do list when I came for the coffee break I was like first things first I want to go over our calendars because we came with an agenda because I was like there's so much coming up and I just want to know that I'm prepared Fair.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: Like, I want to know I then nothing gets scheduled over things.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: We both have a lot of stuff coming up and in general.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: And then with the pod and all the events, and oh my gosh.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: We have a lot to keep track of.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: So much to keep track of.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Which leads me to so it didn't ruin the friendship.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, Jen.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: So when you said we had a first disagreement just now, you sent me into a spiral.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I was like, what did I do?
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: Unintentionally.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: I didn't want to send you into a spiral.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I was just trying to segue into it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: I should have let you go with it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, guys, we had our first disagreement.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: We had our first fight.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, no.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: Honestly, cheers to that.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: It was a little bit of uncharted waters for this, but we navigated one.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: I was like, this is what my brain's telling me, and this is why, but please check with Brent.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: We did check with Brent, and Brent said she was right.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Brent said her date, which was correct.
- 45:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, oh, okay.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, at least.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: But then he's like, but we can also do these other days.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: I'm like, absolutely no.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: No, please don't.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: Please do not stick with her date.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: Don't switch up our brain anymore.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Like, let's stick with that.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Too much is happening.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:27SPEAKER_03: Stick with the that was stay with the plan.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry that made you feel uncomfortable.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: I, you know, I just don't like disagreeing at all with people.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, it's not a disagreement.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: I was like, this is I would I straight up was like, I have no idea what's going on, but this is what dates in our calendar.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: It's a confusion.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Granted, I put it in the calendar and I still didn't know what's going on.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Jen, that's why we need to do this.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: It's closed.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: Spooky.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: I had it in there or something.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: It was the spooky event.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: Spooky event.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: That's all I had in there.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: It's just close because lets you know that I put it in there.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: Because I put spooky event.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: Because I didn't know what the hell we were doing.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: I just knew it was that date, I guess.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Well, I put it in there.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: It worked.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: It worked.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: And and now it's called Rocky Horror on the Rocks.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Just like we take our rose on the rocks.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: Kind of.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: Tonight.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: I put more rocks in mine to my laptop.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: Guys, it's 100 and something degrees outside.
- 46:24unknown: Okay.
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: And hasn't it been?
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: I've lived in this heat for 18 years.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: 18 years.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: That looks really good.
- 46:33unknown: Thanks.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, by the way, we have to give a little bit of a shout out to Vin Zant wines because when I was in Bubbles the other day, I decided to pick up another bottle of that delicious Vin Zant rose.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: It is so good.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: You love that color.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: I forgot how good it is.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, look at our little BB.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: Honestly.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: It's a delicious rose.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: If you if any men are listening, or any women out there that want to buy a Valentine's Day gift, this is so pretty.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: And cute.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: I know that Valentine's Day is a ways away, but time is flying.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: It's good to plan.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: I think this is adorable.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: Adorable.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: And it's delicious.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: And it's so good.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, now it's time to go into hits different.
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: The song, as you know, if you've been listening to the entire episode, which clearly you have since you're right here right now.
- 47:27SPEAKER_02: The song tonight is Ruin the Friendship from Taylor Swift's Life of a Showgirl album.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: I had Rachel listen to the acoustic version first because I love that version and I feel like it drives the emotion home.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: But and then afterwards we listen to the regular version, which is also amazing in its own right.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about it.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: So I feel like you have to start me out with talking about it with a question or something.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, so alright.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Well, I have some of those handy.
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: So your first what what is your first reaction to the song?
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: Not into the concept, the actual song.
- 48:05SPEAKER_03: So the actual song, no concept, no listening or taking lyrics accountable.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Honestly, it's probably one of my least favorites.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: Oh honestly, I did not see that comic.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: But honestly, I can kind of see that a little bit too.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: Like, no story, no lyrics in mind, just turning it on.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Like I would hit next.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: And that's for both the acoustic and the regular.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, if I was with you, I would let it play and I would get into it with you because I know you'd be vibing with it.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: So then I vibe with it.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: But like so vibing.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: I like it's not gonna make me feel like really happy.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: So I'm not gonna listen to that when I'm alone.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: Now let's talk about no, that's okay.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: Like she hears this all the time.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: It's not gonna hurt her feelings.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: But the lyrics?
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: What's your next question?
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's talk about what you feel like the song means.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: Was first, I guess I have a question.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: Is this her?
- 49:04SPEAKER_03: This is not current.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: This is her redoing an album, right?
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: This isn't her redoing an album, but yes.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: This is a revisiting a relationship that happened when she was young.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: Yes, I will tell you that.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: So I get it.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: I did never like have like anything like this happen to me.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: So, like, but I get it.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: I think she's saying, like, she had, but I'll tell you the part that confused me after I get to this.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: But at first, it's like a young, it's obviously like a young time in her life, and it's uh like romance or could have been romance, but he was with someone else, and he was looking at her, and he knew he liked her, and she kind of was interested in him because he was smiling and stuff, and listen to him, watching him listen to music and her brother's Jeep and stuff.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Maybe she was a little younger, maybe she's a little older.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: But it just seems like he went for the wrong girl, and she thought he was interested, but she didn't go for it.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: But you know, I don't I just feel like I don't I I'm confused on a couple of parts.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: First of all, she said she flew home.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: What the frick high schooler is flying home from a prom.
- 50:25SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I see this.
- 50:27SPEAKER_03: Also, I could see this taken as is she interested in him or the girlfriend?
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 50:35SPEAKER_03: Like if you didn't know Taylor and you didn't know I'm like, is because so when she's like the in the friendship, I'm wondering, was she friends with the girl or was she friends friends hint on hint and there were looks with him?
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: That's obviously probably the thing, but I feel like it left a little opening to her, like if she was friends with the girl, like she can't be friends with the girl because there's obviously this tension with the guy.
- 51:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: So that was confusing for me.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: Also, flying home, you rich bitch.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: Uh like what?
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: You're flying to prom?
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: But maybe she's just flying down the highway.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: I mean I don't know.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: That's a good point of view.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: But I don't know.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: I never went to prom.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: But we should have an advanced.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: I don't know how that goes.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: But it sounds like the main point of it is like things that she could have had and like maybe missed out on those memories.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: But also those little memory sweet things, aren't those like the best little parts?
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: That's what everyone wants is like the little like tingle you get in your heart or your face or wherever that like when someone looks at you when you're first experiencing these things and you're like, oh my god, butterflies, he likes me.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, and so I feel like it brings back that kind of a feeling for me and for anyone that listens to it.
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: And maybe a little remorse forever, but I will personally say I do not have any moments or regrets of not kissing anyone in a moment that I could think of.
- 52:17SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 52:18SPEAKER_03: Like when I was listening to those songs both times, acoustic and non-acoustic.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: Do you have any that you think you'd missed out on?
- 52:25SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 52:25unknown: Wow.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, God.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: Can we dive into those?
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: We can talk about this whole thing.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: We can always cut them off with a bonus song.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: But this is why we do this.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: I this is the deep dive.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: This is how we get to know the real us.
- 52:41SPEAKER_03: I think the only time I would ever regret not kissing someone would be like if I was hurting or I was like unsure if they liked me as much because of my own self-doubts.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: So I held back.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Instead of just feeling it and kissing them to let them know because maybe they were also having doubts too, or something.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: And so maybe that would be the only reason.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Like it, like while in like a semi-relationship or relationship with the person, because I didn't want to like be too much.
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: Definitely know what you mean.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: But no, I don't ever remember like this.
- 53:18SPEAKER_03: And that sounds the Taylor's version sounds a little more complicated because it sounds like there's another woman involved.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: So honestly, like you shouldn't have kissed them, but I don't know what their situation was either.
- 53:30SPEAKER_03: You didn't put a label on those words.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: You ready for the deep dive?
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: Yes, sorry, I'm done with my ramble.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I will start with my own thing.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: So you're right.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: I did experience like a very very incredibly similar situation to this where I was very close friends with the guy in seventh, eighth, ninth grade.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: He even lived in my grandparents' neighborhood.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: Like we were friends, like we would go rollerblading together.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: And he was also friends with my two best friends, and I was dating his best friend.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: It happens all the time at the end of the such a weird thing.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: You know, that middle school age, and I oh my god, I had the biggest crush on him in middle school.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: And there were his best friend.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: I dated his best friend while having crush on him?
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: You I did.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did.
- 54:27SPEAKER_03: You're like, I'll take it.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Like the friend didn't really talk a lot, but Cody and I were shit.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: He was easy.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: He was simple.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: Hui.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: Houie and you.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: Hui and you.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: So he and I were like, I feel like our personalities matched a lot better than me and his friends.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: Your personalities in middle school match.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Whatever that was.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: We liked rollerblading.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: I'm not laughing at you.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: So we liked rollerblading and going to Hastings, which is all and yeah, which was like right around the block.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: So do you remember what Hastings was?
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: It was like a CD store, movie rental place, and then eventually at the end of everything, they added a coffee shop and then it died.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: We used to like rollerblade to yeah, to Hastings.
- 55:17SPEAKER_02: And um just you two?
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: No, like we had a group of us that would rollerblad together.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: When I would rollerblade, my legs were fit.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: And then like in high school, we kind of lost touch.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: I think that he went off to a different high school.
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: I don't even think he went to the same high school as me.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: But yeah, like it lost touch, and then eventually, like I found out he like played football in high school, married a cheerleader, you know, the whole thing.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: But very rural Oklahoma.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: And I stayed in Enid, which is Enid.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: I don't know what else to say about it.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: It's not rural, but it's Enid.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: And then and then okay, so but here's the lore behind the song.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: So Taylor Sota had a friend.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: I think his name is Andrew.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: And this is a song about this man, this friend of hers.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 56:15SPEAKER_02: And yeah, apparently, so the first verse is one year.
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: The second verse is they're experiencing prom and the look, you know, across the dance floor and all that kind of stuff.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: The third verse, though, is there is years later.
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: Like she's left school, she's moved away.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: She's lost touch with him.
- 56:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: And her best friend calls her to tell her he's unalived himself.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: Oh shit.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: And so she flew home to whisper at the grave.
- 56:48SPEAKER_02: Should have kissed you anyway.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: Fuuuu! Yeah.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: Don't I feel like a dick?
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: No.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: How are you gonna know?
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: He died.
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: How are you gonna know?
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, he unalived himself and he yeah, and um well.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, maybe you're right, Taylor me.
- 57:05SPEAKER_03: Oh, I hate to say that.
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: So, like you so her advice at the end is always answer the question.
- 57:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do it, do it anyways, kiss him anyways, or whatever it is in life, do it anyway.
- 57:19SPEAKER_03: Obviously.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: But if you're feeling that pull, it's like what we've been saying since the early episodes in season one.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Do it anyway.
- 57:27SPEAKER_02: Do it anyway, do it anyway, kiss him anyway.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: You know, do it anyway.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: And and I think that goes back to the leap.
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: Like, sure, I involuntarily left my job, but I was also preparing myself.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: I felt it coming.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: Let's be real.
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: So in the weeks before, I left my j involuntarily left my job.
- 57:47SPEAKER_02: Why were we preparing, Jen?
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: Because we always have a plan, eh?
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: D exactly.
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: This is exactly right.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: You if you fail to plan.
- 57:57SPEAKER_03: You plan to fail.
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: If you say we nailed it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: We're gonna go with that one.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: We did it when we did it together.

- 58:29SPEAKER_03: You are so good at that.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Honestly, you are so good at that.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: I don't have a backup plan.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: I don't.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: I will be honest, guys.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: And I'm going to work on that.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: But you know what the cool thing is, you have a really amazing community behind you that's gonna lift you up.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: I am very fortunate.
