- 0:37What is going on, everybody?
- 0:38How y'all are?
- 0:41It's Gage Wednesday.
- 0:44You got Corey with us.
- 0:45What's going on, brother?
- 0:47Same old stuff, brother.
- 0:49Just a different day.
- 0:51Just a different day.
- 0:54Well,
- 0:54I was just setting up for the show.
- 0:55We got Mark here.
- 0:56We got Megan here.
- 0:58Good to see them in the chat.
- 1:00And I saw something on Instagram that I
- 1:03wanted to share.
- 1:05It popped up literally like a minute and
- 1:07a half ago as I was setting up.
- 1:09And I just have some words.
- 1:12You have my attention.
- 1:14Here we go.
- 1:17So CrossFit Games put this out.
- 1:20Have you seen this?
- 1:24standard standards and it's just a bunch
- 1:26of judges no repping at the crossfit games
- 1:32on the surface i think this is a
- 1:34great video the standard is the standard
- 1:37right so i've been told what i want
- 1:41to say is and this just this doesn't
- 1:43go straight to crossfit if you are an
- 1:46event organizer or you are the crossfit
- 1:49games
- 1:50Put your judges in the best place to
- 1:53succeed.
- 1:56Say it again.
- 1:58Put your judges in the best place to
- 2:01succeed.
- 2:02And that means don't change the standard
- 2:05last minute.
- 2:07Make sure you clearly tell the judge what
- 2:10the standard is so that everybody's on the
- 2:14same page.
- 2:18This means a lot more if we all
- 2:21know what the standard is.
- 2:24If you know what the standard is,
- 2:26then the standard is the standard.
- 2:29If you got to guess at what the
- 2:30standard is, then we got some problems.
- 2:35Make it clear.
- 2:37Make it concise.
- 2:38Make it the thing.
- 2:39Like, it's not that hard to do, dude.
- 2:42It's really not that hard to do.
- 2:43If you let it open for interpretation.
- 2:46That's what's going to happen.
- 2:48You're going to have one lane doing it
- 2:50one way,
- 2:50another lane doing it another way,
- 2:52and then we got all kinds of hell.
- 2:56My first ever individual comp,
- 2:59I did intermediate.
- 3:00This was in probably twenty nineteen.
- 3:03Actually,
- 3:03we are not far from Mark on the
- 3:05North Shore over there is North Shore
- 3:07Games or one of those.
- 3:09And we had to do bar facing burpees.
- 3:11OK, we had.
- 3:16rubber mats that were placed out on the
- 3:17floor and the place that they had rented
- 3:19they didn't anyway you're supposed to be
- 3:23facing the bar when you come down right
- 3:25everybody kind of gets on a little bit
- 3:27of an angle because you're trying to go
- 3:29faster and i got no repped five times
- 3:34i had five extra burpees because one of
- 3:36my feet came off of the rubber mat
- 3:38that i was on and if you look
- 3:40down the line
- 3:42To where literally everybody else that was
- 3:45going the same time I was,
- 3:46was doing the exact same thing that I
- 3:48was doing.
- 3:48And I was the only one who got
- 3:51hit for it.
- 3:53I didn't argue at the time.
- 3:55I just saw it.
- 3:55It was a partner comp.
- 3:57So I could see it happening.
- 4:01And I was like,
- 4:02why are you yelling at me?
- 4:03And nobody else was getting yelled at.
- 4:05I don't know.
- 4:06And that's a,
- 4:08I don't care if you note rep me,
- 4:10but everybody else should be getting the
- 4:11same treatment.
- 4:15Um, as well,
- 4:17they need to tell the broadcast what the
- 4:19standard is so they can tell the
- 4:21community.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:24I find it infuriating.
- 4:28You know, Kat and I used to,
- 4:29when Kat and I were first going to,
- 4:30to semifinals, um,
- 4:34And we were both former judges.
- 4:36And what we're seeing on the floor would
- 4:38be a no rep.
- 4:39And then I would grab like a head
- 4:41judge that I knew from my time there
- 4:43and say, what is the standard on that?
- 4:45And they would say X to Y to
- 4:48Z. And I'd go, oh,
- 4:50now I get it.
- 4:51Yeah.
- 4:54But because you're not telling anybody or
- 4:55making it public what the standard is,
- 4:58then everybody just guesses.
- 5:01what the standard is.
- 5:03Now there are things that we all know,
- 5:05squat below parallel.
- 5:08Oh, cat's in the chat.
- 5:09Nice.
- 5:09Yeah.
- 5:12Um, squat below parallel, you know,
- 5:14full extension, all those things.
- 5:17We all know those ones,
- 5:19but there are so many movements that the
- 5:21standard can change like a burpee over a
- 5:24bar.
- 5:25What, what are we doing over the bar?
- 5:28Everybody knows.
- 5:31Nobody knows.
- 5:32That's the whole problem.
- 5:34It's changed.
- 5:35I see.
- 5:37So my first open was twenty nineteen.
- 5:39So nineteen, twenty, twenty one,
- 5:41twenty two, twenty three, twenty four,
- 5:43twenty five.
- 5:43So, yes, six opens.
- 5:45And every time something's changed as far
- 5:47as Burberry's over the board is concerned.
- 5:49Oh,
- 5:49now you can do now you can do
- 5:51like the kind of hop over there.
- 5:53Very hot type deal.
- 5:54Oh, no, don't do that.
- 5:58a broadcaster should be required to attend
- 6:00the athlete briefing,
- 6:01like the athletes and judges.
- 6:03I agree.
- 6:05And make sure that at a time where
- 6:09the, where the broadcast team can attend,
- 6:12like at the games, when they do these,
- 6:14like we're going to do this event and
- 6:17now we're going to have the athletes come
- 6:18in and everybody out of the arena.
- 6:20And we're going to do the next briefing.
- 6:23And that's the only break the broadcast
- 6:24team gets for the day.
- 6:26That's come on.
- 6:26Yeah.
- 6:27Well,
- 6:29I mean, at the very least,
- 6:30gives them a copy of the standards.
- 6:34So Kat and I used to try to
- 6:36sneak into the athlete briefings.
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:39Into the top row to get what we
- 6:41could from that.
- 6:44I'll be honest.
- 6:45She tried to do it way more than
- 6:46me.
- 6:48Like she was all into going into those
- 6:50athlete briefings.
- 6:51After being a judge and being forced to
- 6:53sit through them all those years.
- 6:55And all the questions and all the
- 6:57questions and all the questions.
- 6:59Like I was less inclined to do it,
- 7:00but she forced my hand and we would
- 7:03go listen to the athlete brief.
- 7:05And then we knew at least what the
- 7:06athletes were told.
- 7:07Yeah.
- 7:10So whatever ends up on the floor,
- 7:11at least like you said,
- 7:12at least at that point, you know, well,
- 7:13this is what they were told as opposed
- 7:15to this is what they were doing.
- 7:16Well,
- 7:16this is what was allowed as opposed to
- 7:19what was told.
- 7:20Because those two things aren't always the
- 7:21same thing either.
- 7:23But even with that,
- 7:24how many times have we heard, well,
- 7:26we were in the corral and Dave said.
- 7:30Yeah, dude,
- 7:32there's a one on one of the documentaries.
- 7:36They got a picture of Pat and Matt
- 7:40in the corral.
- 7:40And like,
- 7:42it might be Chuck that was talking to
- 7:44him.
- 7:44It's one of the judges and telling them
- 7:46what they need to do.
- 7:47And he's and Matt's going, yeah,
- 7:49but nobody else has done that since
- 7:50they've been out there.
- 7:52So we don't really have to.
- 7:54Yeah, but nobody's done it.
- 7:56That's a perfect example.
- 7:57That's a big game.
- 7:59That's not a semifinal.
- 8:00That's not any of that.
- 8:01That's the actual games where you're
- 8:03going,
- 8:03but we don't really have to because nobody
- 8:05else has done it so far.
- 8:06So why are you even bothered to tell
- 8:08us this?
- 8:10Mark Moss,
- 8:10one time I had a judge know repping
- 8:12women for throwing the wall ball too high.
- 8:15I was like,
- 8:15what on earth are you doing?
- 8:18Well,
- 8:18they weren't hitting the female target.
- 8:20Yeah,
- 8:20throwing it too high is a disadvantage in
- 8:23itself.
- 8:25You don't need to throw a no rep
- 8:30in there for that as well.
- 8:31But I just saw that,
- 8:33and those thoughts came over me,
- 8:35and I was like, you know what?
- 8:37I like the messaging,
- 8:39but make sure your in-house stuff is good
- 8:42too.
- 8:47You can't go throwing stones if your house
- 8:50is not in order.
- 8:52Right.
- 8:52That's a hard fact.
- 8:53Yeah.
- 8:54And then if we know the standard,
- 8:56then Hiller knows to attack the athlete or
- 8:58to attack the event organizer.
- 9:00Right?
- 9:02Whichever one he's fixing to do.
- 9:04Either attack the stupid rule or attack
- 9:06the athlete for not hitting standard.
- 9:10That way you know.
- 9:11Hard to call out both.
- 9:13It is a stupid rule,
- 9:14and they're still not admonished.
- 9:16They're still not following the stupid
- 9:18rule.
- 9:18Right.
- 9:19They're not adhering to the stupid rule.
- 9:21It is a stupid rule,
- 9:21but it is the rule.
- 9:23It is.
- 9:26All right.
- 9:28So did you guys see Laura's post?
- 9:33I have not.
- 9:35I saw Hiller's response to Laura's post.
- 9:40I think I've seen Hiller's response as
- 9:42well.
- 9:42Yeah, but I have absolutely no idea.
- 9:45And look, I don't care.
- 9:49I read the post and I was like,
- 9:54I am so anti-passive aggressive.
- 9:56Like,
- 9:57if you're going to say something about
- 9:59somebody, just say it.
- 10:01Call them out.
- 10:02Do whatever you got to do.
- 10:03Are we talking Horvat?
- 10:06Yeah.
- 10:08She must have pulled it.
- 10:10Wouldn't surprise me.
- 10:16Yeah, I don't see anything.
- 10:18I know what you're talking about.
- 10:23So anyway,
- 10:25I saw my man Joseph up here.
- 10:29We are Penn State.
- 10:32It is one hell of a college football
- 10:34schedule this weekend.
- 10:36Both of our teams ranked versus ranked.
- 10:40What time is y'all game?
- 10:43Seven thirty.
- 10:45What time is yours?
- 10:47Three thirty in the afternoon.
- 10:50Yeah, we got the night game, the whiteout.
- 10:52Two ranked teams, highly ranked teams,
- 10:56I should add,
- 10:57playing at three thirty in the afternoon.
- 11:00Two thirty central,
- 11:01so four thirty your time, whatever.
- 11:03That makes no sense whatsoever.
- 11:05They asked Lane Kiffin about it and he
- 11:08said, if we'd be playing at LSU,
- 11:09it would be at six-thirty.
- 11:11He said, if we'd be playing at Georgia,
- 11:13it would be at six-thirty.
- 11:14They do this to us all the time.
- 11:17He said, it's because it's in Mississippi.
- 11:20Well,
- 11:21I hate big noon kickoff because now Fox
- 11:24gets the big prime game at noon.
- 11:26I don't want my game at noon.
- 11:28I want the night game.
- 11:29I want
- 11:31I want to like get all marinated all
- 11:33day, get sauced up, get ready to go.
- 11:36And I'm not, you know,
- 11:37I haven't drank in a long time.
- 11:39So we've been talking about that way.
- 11:41I'm just like,
- 11:42I want to get into a lather for
- 11:43the game.
- 11:44Yeah.
- 11:45And, and that,
- 11:47and the big new kickoff is just ruined
- 11:49that for me.
- 11:50I also want to be able to do
- 11:51the things that I would normally do on
- 11:53a Saturday and not have to worry about,
- 11:55Oh, well shit,
- 11:56I got to get back home because kickoffs
- 11:57at three thirty in the afternoon.
- 11:59Like that is bananas.
- 12:00Crazy.
- 12:01So for those of you who don't know,
- 12:03don't follow the code,
- 12:04LSU is taking on Ole Miss.
- 12:08And both teams are ranked at three thirty
- 12:11or four thirty our time on Saturday.
- 12:13And then at seven thirty,
- 12:15Penn State is taking on Oregon.
- 12:19And it was the Big Ten championship game
- 12:20last year and it was a shootout.
- 12:25One touchdown difference at the end.
- 12:27We were on the losing end of that.
- 12:31Hoping not to be this year.
- 12:34So.
- 12:36Well, this year.
- 12:38And that doesn't even account for Georgia,
- 12:40Alabama.
- 12:43This year.
- 12:45Yeah, no kidding.
- 12:46This year, Whit Weeks,
- 12:48captain of our defense,
- 12:49is dating Lane Kiffin's daughter.
- 12:52I saw that.
- 12:57So the linebacker of LSU is dating Ole
- 12:59Miss's head coach.
- 13:03So I live here in Columbus.
- 13:06Back in the day,
- 13:07you remember Brady Quinn when he
- 13:09quarterbacked Notre Dame?
- 13:10Yep.
- 13:12Everybody know who A.J.
- 13:13Hawk is?
- 13:15Yeah.
- 13:15On the Pat McAfee show,
- 13:18he was a linebacker for Ohio State.
- 13:21His sister married, or no, A.J.
- 13:25Hawk married Brady Quinn's sister.
- 13:26Oh.
- 13:30I was not aware of that.
- 13:31Yeah.
- 13:37Strong move.
- 13:38Yeah.
- 13:38Strong move.
- 13:39They have like seven million kids.
- 13:42They came to our church one time and
- 13:45it like took a while for them all
- 13:46to check in the kids.
- 13:50But he is one large dude.
- 13:52Oh, I'm sure.
- 13:56Biggest man I've ever seen in person,
- 13:58well, I say biggest,
- 14:00one of the two biggest men I've ever
- 14:01met in person was,
- 14:05used to block for Dalton Hilliard,
- 14:09the old Joe Notto back when Dalton was
- 14:12still at LSU way back in forever.
- 14:13He took up an entire doorway.
- 14:16They have a staffing service for like
- 14:18construction people.
- 14:19And I was in,
- 14:20I was at McDermott in orientation that
- 14:23morning and the door opened
- 14:25he had to put his head down up
- 14:29underneath the door to kind of get in
- 14:30he didn't come all the way in the
- 14:31room and you couldn't see anything behind
- 14:32him kind of looked around and the lady
- 14:35that was giving orientation said what's up
- 14:37joe you need something you wanted to make
- 14:39sure my dude was in here when that
- 14:42old boy that he was looking for backed
- 14:44on out the door and closed it and
- 14:45you never could see light behind it the
- 14:47largest man i've ever met in my entire
- 14:48life uh mark moss i met thor at
- 14:51rogue it was wild
- 14:53So Thor is wild,
- 14:55and I've met him as well.
- 14:56He's just really tall and big.
- 15:00But for pure thickness,
- 15:03Brian Shaw is like block out the sun.
- 15:06Yeah,
- 15:07Brian Shaw looks like he has his own
- 15:08gravity.
- 15:08Yeah, it is.
- 15:11I saw him sit at a normal-sized table
- 15:13at a restaurant,
- 15:15and it looked like an end table.
- 15:21Supposedly,
- 15:21Shaquille O'Neal is like that as well
- 15:23because he is also like seven foot nine
- 15:27foot four or whatever.
- 15:28He's ginormous and three hundred pounds.
- 15:31Yeah.
- 15:32So that's what Thor's like six eight and
- 15:36he's like four hundred pounds.
- 15:37But when you're six eight,
- 15:38it gets spread out a little bit more.
- 15:40Yeah.
- 15:40And Shaw's like six two.
- 15:42Right.
- 15:43And like four fifty.
- 15:45And so like the width is like much
- 15:49greater.
- 15:49Yeah.
- 15:51And he had so many pancakes and so
- 15:54many eggs on that table.
- 15:57He would have swore like an entire family
- 15:58was eating and it was just for him.
- 16:05Bro.
- 16:06Jay Bertie,
- 16:06I saw Brian at Cork and Barrel and
- 16:07Round Rock after Rogue one evening.
- 16:10Yeah, he is one.
- 16:10There's no chair big enough.
- 16:17You know what I mean?
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:20Like, nope, I can't sit in that one.
- 16:21I'm going to need you to get me
- 16:21something.
- 16:22When he sat on the chair,
- 16:23it looked like a footstool.
- 16:24Yeah.
- 16:26Sitting like this.
- 16:28Just kind of perched up on it.
- 16:30Hoping it doesn't fall over.
- 16:34I mean,
- 16:34I used to do security for the Arnold.
- 16:37And I got to meet all those guys.
- 16:39Mark Henry.
- 16:40Like,
- 16:40those guys are just massive human beings.
- 16:44they make CrossFitters look like tiny
- 16:46weebles.
- 16:48Well,
- 16:49pretty much everybody I meet makes me feel
- 16:51like that.
- 16:51So it's not a big deal.
- 16:52Yeah.
- 16:56So I wanted to pose a question to
- 16:57you because right at the end of the
- 16:59show yesterday,
- 17:00someone popped into the comments and they
- 17:03asked me, um,
- 17:06Mark Moss, they don't need security.
- 17:08So really I was there for the
- 17:09bodybuilders.
- 17:11And the reason the bodybuilders need the
- 17:12security is they dehydrate themselves to
- 17:14the point where they don't even know where
- 17:16they are.
- 17:18They haven't eaten in three days.
- 17:20Really.
- 17:20It is like,
- 17:21it's just hurting them together.
- 17:24So they don't wander off lost in the
- 17:26crowd.
- 17:27And if you've never been to the Arnold,
- 17:29it is a massive crowd.
- 17:31Like getting through that crowd is awful.
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:36That's who we really were worried about.
- 17:39Yeah.
- 17:42Herding kittens at that point.
- 17:45Exactly.
- 17:46Exactly.
- 17:47That is it on the nose.
- 17:49So yesterday at the end of the show,
- 17:50someone jumped in the comments and said,
- 17:53is Alexis Raptus now the new Bethany
- 17:56Flores?
- 17:56Yeah.
- 17:59Because of all the injuries,
- 18:02all the stomach issues, all the...
- 18:07and that bethany had gone through those
- 18:09forever and both are uber talented but is
- 18:15is all of that restricting them from
- 18:18reaching their full potential and you're
- 18:24saying no no i don't think so at
- 18:26all i really really don't i don't think
- 18:30i think people
- 18:34Did Bethany ever reach her full potential?
- 18:36How would we know,
- 18:37one way or the other?
- 18:39Right?
- 18:40She didn't.
- 18:41When she was good, she was extremely good.
- 18:44Right?
- 18:44Top ten, possibly top five,
- 18:47depending on what they did.
- 18:47When she was great,
- 18:48she got COVID at the games.
- 18:50Correct.
- 18:50I was about to say,
- 18:51the year that it looked like it was
- 18:53really lined up for her,
- 18:55she didn't get to compete.
- 18:58So, but like what Mark said,
- 19:01how old is Alexis?
- 19:02I still feel like she's
- 19:04Yeah, she's in her twenties.
- 19:04I think Jamie's right, about twenty-six.
- 19:06Okay.
- 19:07She's still got a pretty high window as
- 19:11far as that goes.
- 19:12The illness thing,
- 19:13she has nothing she can do about it.
- 19:14The fact that she is as fit as
- 19:15she is while dealing with that is
- 19:20mind-blowing to me.
- 19:22The injuries, we can clean up.
- 19:25I mean, that's...
- 19:27I don't believe people...
- 19:31I don't think the injuries are as severe
- 19:32for Alexis at this point.
- 19:34Like Bethany Shadburn,
- 19:36or what was Shadburn, now Flores,
- 19:39she broke her back in gymnastics before
- 19:41she ever set foot on a crossroad floor.
- 19:43Correct.
- 19:45And the damage that was done back then,
- 19:48she probably was dealing with her entire
- 19:50career.
- 19:52I wouldn't even say probably, dude.
- 19:53From a couple people I've known,
- 19:55which is not a whole lot of them,
- 19:56two or three that have actually broken
- 19:58their back, it's never the same.
- 20:01Ever.
- 20:02So the fact that she got it as
- 20:04good as she did while she was going,
- 20:07while she was still active or whatnot,
- 20:10it's almost magical.
- 20:13Right?
- 20:17I feel like
- 20:20if it weren't for the back injury she
- 20:21would have podiumed yeah i would i would
- 20:24i could i could see that two top
- 20:26ten finishes um not shabby like definitely
- 20:32a decent career she was always in it
- 20:35she's always a factor she's always it's
- 20:38kind of like a team that uh that
- 20:40your your your team plays and they're just
- 20:42hanging around the entire game waiting for
- 20:44waiting for their moment to do something
- 20:46Never out of it.
- 20:48Never out of it.
- 20:49Nothing but mad respect for Bethany.
- 20:53Mark, did Matt break his back?
- 20:55He did.
- 20:58It all depends on where in the spine
- 21:01the break happens.
- 21:02The severity of it.
- 21:05What actually broke inside of it because
- 21:06the spine is made up of several different
- 21:09places.
- 21:10There's a whole lot of stuff that goes
- 21:11into it.
- 21:11I think Matt broke his when he was
- 21:13very young as well.
- 21:18Yeah,
- 21:18because I think Matt was more upper back.
- 21:21Yeah.
- 21:21Like closer to the neck where Bethany was
- 21:24more lower back,
- 21:26which affects everything because I've been
- 21:28through all of that.
- 21:29Right.
- 21:29If you had to pick one,
- 21:33you'd probably want upper back as opposed
- 21:35to lower.
- 21:36And Shanna, who is a doctor,
- 21:38also what part of the vertebrae breaks?
- 21:40There it is.
- 21:44Katie Schaefer,
- 21:45I think Alexis and Sarah are a better
- 21:47comparison.
- 21:50I hope not.
- 21:55I hope that Alexis gets over this,
- 21:58figures out everything,
- 22:00and is able to compete and put together
- 22:02some pretty good performances.
- 22:05What Sarah was was great off the get-go.
- 22:09Like,
- 22:09she could have won the games two years.
- 22:11The Tia, Katrin, Sarah years, the sixteen,
- 22:14seventeen.
- 22:15Yep.
- 22:16Any of those three could have won.
- 22:19Or it's fifteen, sixteen.
- 22:22Fifteen, sixteen, seventeen.
- 22:23Fifteen, sixteen, for sure.
- 22:24Tia.
- 22:25Yeah.
- 22:26But Sarah,
- 22:29if Sarah doesn't try to do the pegboards
- 22:31like Katrin didn't try, she may have won.
- 22:37She was right there.
- 22:41She was literally right there,
- 22:43but I don't think her mindset allowed her
- 22:45to,
- 22:48I don't want to say strategic because she
- 22:49just literally skipped the pegboard that
- 22:51bothers me to this day.
- 22:53Like she got credit for not doing work.
- 22:56Yeah.
- 22:56And I,
- 22:57and I would not call Sarah a strategist.
- 23:03Not at all.
- 23:04Not at all.
- 23:05Yeah.
- 23:05Yeah.
- 23:08How often in sports has someone with a
- 23:10promising future been cut short due to
- 23:12injury?
- 23:13So many.
- 23:16You can't cut...
- 23:19People on people on people on people on
- 23:21people.
- 23:22That's absolutely...
- 23:24Bo Jackson was my favorite athlete when I
- 23:27was a kid.
- 23:29What that meant to do in every sport
- 23:31was freaking phenomenal.
- 23:34And the fact we were robbed...
- 23:37from what it could have been just was
- 23:40crushing to me someone tried to tackle him
- 23:44and he pulled his own hip out of
- 23:46socket pulling the dude along yeah what
- 23:53what even is that the dude that he
- 23:56threw out from the warning track when he's
- 24:00playing baseball
- 24:02And old boy still says he had to
- 24:04have a cutoff.
- 24:05No, he did not.
- 24:06It's on a frozen rope straight.
- 24:10Who does that?
- 24:12Find somebody that does that today.
- 24:13They don't.
- 24:16Who climbs a wall like Spider-Man to make
- 24:18a catch?
- 24:23Just run up the wall.
- 24:25And it looked casual.
- 24:27I mean, it was fast,
- 24:28but it just looked and it came right
- 24:30on back down.
- 24:35And Joseph said,
- 24:35would Bethany have finished where she did
- 24:37in two thousand nineteen if they didn't
- 24:38make all the cuts that year?
- 24:43I think that she actually got hurt.
- 24:45I think the back actually went out once
- 24:47they made it to the ten and then
- 24:49she just kind of wrote it out to
- 24:50the end.
- 24:51So probably not a top ten finish if
- 24:53there's even twenty in the finals.
- 24:56But the fact she made it there against
- 24:57that field when so many big names got
- 25:01cut.
- 25:03You have to respect what she went through.
- 25:05Because that was more than just a physical
- 25:07games.
- 25:07That was a mental games.
- 25:10Because one bad performance and all of a
- 25:11sudden you're out at the cut at forty
- 25:14or thirty.
- 25:15Look at the when they did the sprints.
- 25:18All the people that got cut.
- 25:19Like that's when Sarah got cut.
- 25:21That's when Brooke Wells, Brent Fikowski.
- 25:24Like a lot of people did that were
- 25:28podium contenders.
- 25:29You know, however you want to call it.
- 25:31But
- 25:32That whole game was wild, front to back.
- 25:37Looking back,
- 25:38I didn't hate that style of games.
- 25:40I didn't hate having someone from every
- 25:42country come and the chaos that ensued
- 25:45after that.
- 25:46I hated the cut to ten so early
- 25:50and that we went out.
- 25:51I think it should have cut to twenty
- 25:53and then played out to the end.
- 25:56I didn't hate the way that that games
- 25:58went.
- 26:00No.
- 26:03So Ben Smith getting his invitations to
- 26:07get Ben Tent.
- 26:08And then as my friend and one of
- 26:11my training partners,
- 26:12fellow coaches at the gym, Aaron, said,
- 26:15that first event,
- 26:16watching Ben wade through the mass of
- 26:18humanity
- 26:20Cause he was in the first heat and
- 26:22just show everybody that was there.
- 26:24That was like, Hey, cool.
- 26:26I'm glad you made it here.
- 26:27I'm glad you're a national champion or
- 26:29whatever,
- 26:29but this is how this is actually done.
- 26:32Like that was fun to watch.
- 26:33That was absolutely fun to watch.
- 26:35Well,
- 26:36I liked that they invited Hunter and that
- 26:37he got to go in and compete and
- 26:40they got to see it because,
- 26:41and then as I mentioned his name,
- 26:46I only hit it because I wanted Hunter
- 26:47around for the entirety.
- 26:50I mean, that's fair.
- 26:51He got a shot.
- 26:52All you had to do.
- 26:56He made it as the first, it's the,
- 26:59uh, he's the handstand walk that got him,
- 27:03which you would think that would not be
- 27:04what would get him.
- 27:05But yeah, the, it was, uh,
- 27:06what was it?
- 27:08The kettlebell push press or whatever.
- 27:11Double kettlebell push press.
- 27:12I remember what it, something else,
- 27:13something else.
- 27:14And then handstand.
- 27:14Well,
- 27:15I think that's the one that he got
- 27:16caught on.
- 27:18Uh, Kenneth, he couldn't clean.
- 27:21Yeah.
- 27:21Katie Schaefer has some good questions.
- 27:23Would Brooke ever have podiumed if she
- 27:25didn't injure her elbow?
- 27:27I think that year she was actually in
- 27:29the running to podium.
- 27:32It would have probably come down to her
- 27:33and Annie.
- 27:36I've seen that video.
- 27:37I can't.
- 27:39More times than I've ever wanted to.
- 27:42Once was too much.
- 27:44Just seeing it happen.
- 27:47I saw it.
- 27:47So Brandon Luckett, my coach, programmer,
- 27:52he did almost the exact same thing
- 27:53happened.
- 27:53His looked just as bad.
- 27:55It was terrible.
- 28:01But I think she could have that year.
- 28:04Who knows what would have happened after
- 28:06that?
- 28:06But I think she could have that year.
- 28:09Then she asks,
- 28:10do we like the field of thirty or
- 28:12forty?
- 28:13I don't mind either.
- 28:15I'm a CrossFit nerd.
- 28:16I can sit through four heats.
- 28:18I can sit through three heats.
- 28:19My biggest complaint has been that we
- 28:23don't get the right people to the games.
- 28:27This is supposed to be the world
- 28:29championships.
- 28:30So it should be the best of the
- 28:32best.
- 28:34I want the best thirty or the best
- 28:36forty.
- 28:37I don't care about the number.
- 28:39Give me the people that are the best.
- 28:45I will say I like how they did
- 28:46it this year.
- 28:46I was good with it.
- 28:52I'm the same way, dude.
- 28:53I like Forty.
- 28:54I'm also a geek when it comes to
- 28:58that.
- 28:58I will watch the early heats.
- 29:02The early heats this year would have had
- 29:04people I knew in them.
- 29:05right uh so like that would have been
- 29:08fun to watch hey i know that guy
- 29:10hey i know that guy watch him go
- 29:11watch him do what they can so like
- 29:14oh that's a good one from katie yeah
- 29:17i was gonna ask you what your impressions
- 29:19were of the new season we talked about
- 29:21it sunday night um do we like the
- 29:24quarterfinals are back yes
- 29:29So that's a two-sided answer for me.
- 29:33I absolutely like that they're back.
- 29:35I don't like that I have to do
- 29:36them.
- 29:37That's another step of online stuff.
- 29:40I'm going to have to record all of
- 29:41my stuff and make sure it's all good
- 29:43and whatnot.
- 29:46I think top twenty five percent is a
- 29:49wild number to add.
- 29:53I think fifteen probably would have been
- 29:55back to back to top fifteen would probably
- 29:57been a whole lot better.
- 30:00I'm going to say an unpopular thing here.
- 30:02If twenty five percent gets more money
- 30:04into the pot for the athletes at the
- 30:06end.
- 30:06Right.
- 30:08And I'm cool with twenty five percent.
- 30:11Most of those people in the other ten
- 30:13percent of your fifteen aren't going to be
- 30:15competing for the top anyway.
- 30:17And it's an achievement that they can say,
- 30:20hey,
- 30:20I finished in the top seventy fifth
- 30:22percentile or better in the CrossFit game
- 30:26season this year.
- 30:28It's just a bragging point for those
- 30:30athletes right there.
- 30:31But who cares if they're doing a money
- 30:35grab?
- 30:36I don't.
- 30:38The athletes in the sport and the prize
- 30:40purses are better.
- 30:41Then go for it.
- 30:44Now, I will say this, too.
- 30:47Caroline's point that she's been making
- 30:48for however many years now,
- 30:50that your score should just carry on the
- 30:53entire time.
- 30:55I am one hundred percent in favor of
- 30:56that.
- 30:57I think that makes way more sense.
- 31:02Vindicate.
- 31:02Twenty five percent is to keep community
- 31:04interest.
- 31:05I agree.
- 31:06Yes, absolutely.
- 31:07Engage in the gym that they accomplish
- 31:10something.
- 31:13And I will agree with you on the
- 31:14Caroline Caroline thing.
- 31:17Combine the scores from the open and the
- 31:20quarterfinals.
- 31:21And I truly feel in the age groups,
- 31:23you don't need to do semis.
- 31:26If you have seven balanced scores through
- 31:29the open semifinals.
- 31:31That's a pretty complete test.
- 31:33You can then go to the games.
- 31:36That's a pretty complete test, right?
- 31:38Right.
- 31:39But what happens is they get to the
- 31:43semifinal test,
- 31:45and you're either repeating something or
- 31:48it becomes very biased because you've
- 31:49already done something.
- 31:51Mm-hmm.
- 31:53I think if you had a more balanced
- 31:54test out of seven scores,
- 31:56it's actually going to get you a better
- 31:57field at the games than the way it's
- 32:00been done over the past few years.
- 32:03Last year was like that for semifinals for
- 32:05us.
- 32:06Like we repeated some stuff.
- 32:08We did some, you know,
- 32:10did some stuff that we had already did
- 32:12in the, in the open.
- 32:14The more burpees over the dumbbell for
- 32:15some ungodly reasons,
- 32:16like still ain't figured that part out
- 32:18yet.
- 32:19Didn't care for it.
- 32:20Still did it.
- 32:21Still going to do it.
- 32:21Doesn't matter what it is.
- 32:22I'm still going to like the test is
- 32:23there.
- 32:24The test is what the test is.
- 32:25So you're going to find me out there
- 32:28doing it.
- 32:29It is.
- 32:30I will say this.
- 32:31If you combine.
- 32:33You know, like like Carolyn's been saying,
- 32:35you combine the two scores together.
- 32:37Now the open means something again.
- 32:40Because now you know that if you do
- 32:42well enough,
- 32:43you're going to add these scores to the
- 32:45next set of them.
- 32:48Because I can walk through the Open for
- 32:52three weeks and be in the top percentage
- 32:54that I need to be in to make
- 32:56quarterfinals.
- 32:57I don't have to try very hard.
- 32:59I can go and do them once.
- 33:02But if the scores count,
- 33:04for the next stage,
- 33:06you can bet your ass,
- 33:07now I'm going full tilt boogie the entire
- 33:10time.
- 33:12You want to make it matter?
- 33:13That just made it matter.
- 33:15Way more than it did if, you know,
- 33:17if, oh, well, that's cool.
- 33:19You moved on.
- 33:20Those scores are gone here.
- 33:21Now we're going to worry about these
- 33:22scores.
- 33:23And then we go from quarterfinals to
- 33:25semifinals.
- 33:25Okay, well,
- 33:26those scores don't matter anymore.
- 33:27And now we're going to semifinals.
- 33:32You know, I love the chat.
- 33:34They're great at segues.
- 33:35Yeah.
- 33:38The French throwdown is moving to Paris
- 33:39next year.
- 33:40Makes me think it might be a semi
- 33:41for Masters too.
- 33:43One thing I know that you have been
- 33:44texting me about is that you want to
- 33:49do your semifinal in person and not
- 33:52online.
- 33:54And it was announced that there was going
- 33:56to be some in-person semifinals next year
- 34:01for the age group divisions.
- 34:06First of all,
- 34:08Barbell Spin clipped the show Sunday night
- 34:11with me in it.
- 34:12And a lot of people don't understand what
- 34:14I was saying.
- 34:16I didn't clip it.
- 34:18Right, yeah.
- 34:19Blame Brian.
- 34:20It was the inside joke that I was
- 34:22saying there was a rumor.
- 34:24That's what he was trying to get at.
- 34:25But we were talking about this very thing.
- 34:28About that...
- 34:32This is about that there are in-person
- 34:34semifinals available now for Masters
- 34:36divisions.
- 34:38So when someone else posts my clip,
- 34:41I didn't clip it.
- 34:42No.
- 34:44Don't tell me to spit it out.
- 34:46If you go back to the show,
- 34:47it's all there.
- 34:51Yeah.
- 34:51Thanks, Brian.
- 34:55So what I was saying was that there
- 34:59is a rumor out there of one of
- 35:03the semifinals for age groups,
- 35:06and it's not an existing semifinal.
- 35:08It's a new semifinal specializing in age
- 35:12groups.
- 35:16That would be dope.
- 35:17That would be dope.
- 35:17Here's the thing.
- 35:18So this is why, in my opinion,
- 35:20that would be fantastic is because if you
- 35:23–
- 35:24The Mayhem Classic.
- 35:25If you try to add Masters to the
- 35:27Mayhem Classic,
- 35:30and I've never been to Mayhem,
- 35:31but just seeing that now you can't do
- 35:33it at Mayhem.
- 35:34It's going to have to be somewhere else.
- 35:35You just can't.
- 35:36You just can't.
- 35:38Not to have more than,
- 35:39would you have five people there per
- 35:41division?
- 35:42That still adds a ton of people.
- 35:45I understand.
- 35:46I wonder if we heard the same rumor.
- 35:49Probably, I'm guessing probably,
- 35:51since you're tight in that community as
- 35:53well.
- 35:56Mr. Stan, the judge's judge.
- 35:57And he'll probably just verify that the
- 36:00rumor's true.
- 36:01Yeah.
- 36:02So if you have...
- 36:04Because the two major Masters competitions
- 36:07are in October and December between MFC
- 36:11and Legends.
- 36:11So either you're moving those or something
- 36:15else brand new is going to have to
- 36:17pop up, which...
- 36:19Us as masters absolutely are for another
- 36:23opportunity for us to compete in person.
- 36:25Please, let's do that.
- 36:27Let's absolutely do that.
- 36:29I know Jamie's in the chat elevating her
- 36:31hip right now.
- 36:33I know that woman would rather compete in
- 36:35person every day of the week and twice
- 36:37on Sunday.
- 36:38Yes, she would.
- 36:42One, just the setup of the damn camera.
- 36:45And we know that you are terrible at
- 36:47that.
- 36:49it's i'm not it's not my rule follower
- 36:52online no and let me let me say
- 36:56this too line us up and let us
- 37:00go because if i'm going in my gym
- 37:02i i'm going as far as i think
- 37:04i should i'm going i'm probably going to
- 37:07be a little bit more conservative because
- 37:09oh well if i mess it up maybe
- 37:11i got a chance to do it again
- 37:12you know i got a chance to do
- 37:13it again i can wait a couple hours
- 37:14and then just do it again i'll read
- 37:15an hour whatever the court course is
- 37:18Live and in person, bro.
- 37:19We going.
- 37:22Well, you.
- 37:23Myself included.
- 37:26Well, we will do.
- 37:28Someone's going to black out like she
- 37:31literally does that every.
- 37:34Dude, every event.
- 37:36At most of the games that the Sunday
- 37:38morning,
- 37:39I put my earbuds in before or or
- 37:41last event.
- 37:42I didn't talk to anybody for thirty five
- 37:43minutes.
- 37:44And we've met, right?
- 37:46That's not, like, I was ready to,
- 37:49I just,
- 37:51I left everything I had right there on
- 37:53the floor.
- 37:54It's still in Kansas at the Oberlin Park
- 37:56Convention Center.
- 37:58Because I was ready to just, let's rock.
- 38:01Like, let's see what's what.
- 38:05Mark Moss,
- 38:05line us up and let us go.
- 38:07Gives the same vibe as grip it and
- 38:09rip it.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:13Yeah.
- 38:16and not just us actually elites what they
- 38:18rather do aside from brent fukowski no
- 38:21excuse me i got that backwards brent's
- 38:25better in person name one person who would
- 38:27rather do it online at their own gym
- 38:29as opposed to going and competing in
- 38:31person i know of people that would and
- 38:34i'm not naming names because i think that
- 38:39there are people that would rather be on
- 38:40their bar
- 38:42on their pull-up station with their
- 38:44barbell with their,
- 38:46and they're just good at that.
- 38:49And being able to do it three or
- 38:50four times.
- 38:52Yeah.
- 38:52Right.
- 38:53When it's in person, one shot, one shot,
- 38:56baby,
- 38:56one opportunity to grab everything you
- 38:59ever wanted.
- 39:04Absolutely.
- 39:07Oh yeah.
- 39:08No.
- 39:08Yeah.
- 39:08Ronica is a hundred percent correct.
- 39:11Ron told me she ran by you in
- 39:12the run one and was like, let's go.
- 39:14And you were like, nah,
- 39:17that was the most miserable experience
- 39:20I've had competing since I've been
- 39:21competing.
- 39:22I will.
- 39:23One hundred percent.
- 39:24That's I checked out.
- 39:26I absolutely checked out on that one,
- 39:28which is why I've been running once a
- 39:29week since I got since I got that.
- 39:33Amanda Feller's question.
- 39:34If you see Jason Grubb signed up for
- 39:36one of the in-person comps and they give
- 39:38just the winner a spot,
- 39:40how many in his division are signing up
- 39:42to come?
- 39:48I competed against him before.
- 39:49I'll go again.
- 39:50I'm not scared of him.
- 39:52He's just a dude.
- 39:52He is incredibly fit.
- 39:55No question about it,
- 39:56but I am one hundred percent lined up
- 39:58next to him.
- 40:00And we don't know what the number is,
- 40:02right?
- 40:03What's that?
- 40:04We don't know what the numbers are.
- 40:05So like for thirty five to forty four,
- 40:08thirty five to forty four,
- 40:09there's thirty spots.
- 40:11So you have more numbers to play with.
- 40:13As you go up and those numbers get
- 40:15smaller, like forty,
- 40:17forty five to fifty four,
- 40:18you have twenty spots.
- 40:20Now you have less to give out, probably.
- 40:22Yeah.
- 40:24And when you go even higher to the
- 40:25fifteen and the ten, man.
- 40:30may not even give a spot to like
- 40:32that.
- 40:32Seventy plus may have to be online.
- 40:34It's only ten people.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:37That pool is a lot smaller to pull
- 40:39from as well.
- 40:46Yeah.
- 40:47If this weekend taught us anything,
- 40:48it's that anyone is beatable.
- 40:51If you had on your bingo card last
- 40:53place finish for Tia Claire Toomey.
- 40:54Nobody did that.
- 40:59But that's my thing, dude.
- 41:01That's why I'm a big fan of line
- 41:03us up and let's see what happens.
- 41:05Who's got a better plan?
- 41:06Who's fitter?
- 41:08Who's more mentally locked in at that
- 41:10point?
- 41:11You don't know what's going to happen.
- 41:13And you cannot be scared as a competitor
- 41:15to step on the floor against whoever.
- 41:17Because if you are,
- 41:18there's no use being out there.
- 41:22At this elite level,
- 41:23if you don't have the belief in yourself
- 41:24that you can beat anybody on any given
- 41:26day,
- 41:28you you're probably not going to be
- 41:30successful no you need to go find
- 41:32something else to do so that was a
- 41:39good chat yeah man uh chris beechfield in
- 41:43the house i just got about sixty percent
- 41:47of the way through your brian friend
- 41:48interview one thing i gotta say about
- 41:51chris dude has the voice of an angel
- 41:55oh yeah he sounds nice if i'm gonna
- 41:58listen to the radio or a podcast like
- 42:02that that dude silky smooth like i want
- 42:06him to do my like ten to two
- 42:07a.m overnight uh with some smooth jazz and
- 42:13and tell me everything's gonna be okay you
- 42:16think chris you'd host uh
- 42:19coast to coast am instead of what it
- 42:21does it when they talk about all that
- 42:23aliens and abductions and i don't know
- 42:26about that that dude's got a smooth voice
- 42:30i can't remember his name to save my
- 42:31life but that dude's got a real smooth
- 42:34voice when i was working overnight uh in
- 42:36the crane i used to listen to it
- 42:37every night it was fantastic i do not
- 42:42underestimate the abilities of just need
- 42:44fair and balanced tests let's go
- 42:51Oh my God.
- 42:51My wife says the same thing.
- 42:55When you got it, you got it.
- 42:56That's all it is to it.
- 43:00Yeah.
- 43:00I don't have that silky smooth voice.
- 43:02I got the same problem, but I've been,
- 43:07I've been fighting this.
- 43:10You sound congested, dude.
- 43:12Like it's just last night.
- 43:15All of a sudden,
- 43:15like my son is just totally filled up
- 43:17again.
- 43:18and do all this stupid stuff.
- 43:20I just need a break.
- 43:23I need a break from it all.
- 43:25Let me breathe.
- 43:27Please.
- 43:31I had a whole lot on the...
- 43:34We don't have time for all that.
- 43:36But anyway,
- 43:38it was just announced before I came on
- 43:39the air.
- 43:39Caleb Williams,
- 43:41Offensive Player of the Week.
- 43:43I mean, he deserves it.
- 43:45He deserves it.
- 43:47Two in a row for the first time
- 43:49in like a year.
- 43:51Could be worse.
- 43:52Again, could be a Saints fan.
- 43:56Mark Moss,
- 43:56I'm having no surgery next week.
- 43:58Should be a blast.
- 43:59Had two, buddy.
- 44:01Had two.
- 44:03It is not fun.
- 44:06Not fun at all.
- 44:07Good on Caleb, dude.
- 44:08Are you getting the balloon up the nose
- 44:11or are you getting like the go in
- 44:13and scrape it out?
- 44:16Or are you having your thing reset?
- 44:27Mark,
- 44:28if you need to have your septum reset,
- 44:29just holler at me.
- 44:30I'm far from the house.
- 44:32I can fix that.
- 44:33I ain't a big deal.
- 44:35Scrape, I think.
- 44:36I don't know.
- 44:38Yes, the scrape is rough, dude.
- 44:40Just going to tell you.
- 44:42It sounds terrible.
- 44:44Like not an option I would pick.
- 44:46Oh, yeah,
- 44:46just go ahead and scrape it all out.
- 44:49Yeah, I had it done.
- 44:53Get used to having cotton up your nose
- 44:55for like a week and then tape over
- 44:58the thing.
- 45:00I broke out.
- 45:01I was allergic to the glue on the
- 45:02tape.
- 45:03My face broke out.
- 45:04Of course you were.
- 45:06They pulled all the stuff out,
- 45:08forgot to get a sponge.
- 45:12It was a horrible thing.
- 45:13My mom had the balloon twice.
- 45:15I had the balloon once,
- 45:17and then I did the scrape.
- 45:19My mom had the balloon twice.
- 45:22And I tell her every,
- 45:25about once a year,
- 45:25I'll get a pretty bad sinus infection.
- 45:27And I will call her and tell her,
- 45:29out of all the things that you gave
- 45:30me,
- 45:30I wish you'd have kept your freaking
- 45:32sinuses to yourself.
- 45:34Because that is bad.
- 45:37Mark Phillips,
- 45:38that sounds absolutely miserable.
- 45:39Glad to be blessed with good sinuses or
- 45:41a big nose or whatever.
- 45:43Same thing.
- 45:49Leaving the sponge in is horrible.
- 45:51It was horrible.
- 45:54What's crazy is I blew my nose and
- 45:57it came out.
- 45:59That's how I got it out.
- 45:59Oh.
- 46:06First of all,
- 46:07it rips out and you're like,
- 46:08what the hell was that?
- 46:10And then you look down and you're like,
- 46:12oh my gosh.
- 46:14That doesn't look good at all.
- 46:15I don't think that was supposed to be
- 46:17in there.
- 46:23A septoplasty and nasal turbinate.
- 46:27Neither one of those things sound like
- 46:29something I want.
- 46:30You can go ahead and keep both of
- 46:31those.
- 46:32I don't need a septoplasty and I
- 46:33definitely don't need any turbo nasal or
- 46:35whatever the hell that's in.
- 46:36Yeah.
- 46:40Amazing turbinado.
- 46:42It sounds like something with my nose and
- 46:44then a Tim Allen thing like we're going
- 46:46to give it more horsepower.
- 46:49More power, baby.
- 46:50More power.
- 46:51Yes, Mark Phillips.
- 46:54Yeah.
- 46:56Sounds like water park rides.
- 46:59I'm going to get on nasal turbinate right
- 47:02now.
- 47:05The line's not too bad.
- 47:11Oh, that's the best.
- 47:12Bro.
- 47:15No, Shanna, that's why I'm not a doctor.
- 47:17Just because of shit like that right
- 47:19there.
- 47:19Hey, Shanna,
- 47:21I blew it out like ten weeks after
- 47:23surgery.
- 47:25was horrible i cannot i cannot even
- 47:29imagine again like jeff said i bet you
- 47:32felt better though oh i did but i'm
- 47:36like mark i used before the surgery i
- 47:38could not breathe out of my nose at
- 47:40all no thank you just think there are
- 47:47people addicted to cosmetic surgeries no
- 47:49thanks it literally like
- 47:52I woke up from the knockout drugs of
- 47:56the surgery,
- 47:58and there was drainage in my throat,
- 48:01and my nose is stuffed with cotton,
- 48:04and so I can't breathe.
- 48:05And literally,
- 48:06I went into a full panic attack.
- 48:07Yeah, I would have too.
- 48:12And they pulled me up,
- 48:12and then they sucked out whatever...
- 48:15was in there and they gave me a
- 48:16breathing treatment immediately and then i
- 48:19was okay for but man talk about scary
- 48:22when you can't breathe anywhere waking up
- 48:27and then oh i'm awake and now i
- 48:28can't breathe i'd have fought somebody
- 48:35ain't no way ain't no way dude the
- 48:38thought of surgery makes me anxious yeah
- 48:41that was really my first one ever in
- 48:42my life why back surgery i take that
- 48:45back um but the back surgery like that
- 48:49was just i woke up and i felt
- 48:50better immediately this was not that i've
- 48:55uh knock on wood never had never had
- 48:58surgery not once
- 49:02Oh my gosh.
- 49:04It says my daughter stuck some form of
- 49:07the sponge up her nose for two days
- 49:10before we could tell it took seven
- 49:12different doctors to get it out and the
- 49:14stink.
- 49:18I don't belong up there.
- 49:23Well, Monday, I,
- 49:24I won't be on the air Monday,
- 49:26just so you guys know,
- 49:27I actually have an ear, nose and throat.
- 49:32appointment to take a second look at
- 49:34everything we're going back through
- 49:37everything i've had lung tests i'm now
- 49:40going back through ent going back through
- 49:43everything just to see if we can figure
- 49:44all this stuff out so yeah it's worse
- 49:50than halitosis man lucky for me like with
- 49:55all this that has happened i can't smell
- 49:57oh good
- 49:59So I haven't had the sense of smell
- 50:01for three years, four years.
- 50:06And it's awful.
- 50:06Cause like you see food in the fridge
- 50:09now and you're like, is it good?
- 50:10Is it bad?
- 50:14Let me count the days to my wife.
- 50:19Hey, can you smell this?
- 50:21And she's like, so we, uh, talking about,
- 50:24talking about that.
- 50:25We made some homemade pickles over the
- 50:27weekend.
- 50:28And my wife is super nervous about keeping
- 50:32stuff in there and whatnot.
- 50:34There's been food in the fridge.
- 50:36It doesn't matter if it's meal prep stuff.
- 50:38By Friday, she ain't messing with it.
- 50:39Like chicken, she won't do it.
- 50:41So we made these picks.
- 50:42She's like,
- 50:43how low are they supposed to be good
- 50:44for?
- 50:45I said, well,
- 50:45the recipe says for up to a month.
- 50:47She made labels with the date on them.
- 50:50I was like, man,
- 50:52I feel pretty important right now.
- 50:53I feel like we're canning stuff.
- 50:55We got Martha Stewart shit going on around
- 50:57the house.
- 50:57This is new.
- 51:02scataboo oh dude scataboo uh chris i've
- 51:06talked about it on the show before um
- 51:09i did and it's like a big regret
- 51:11of mine this yeah did you see cam
- 51:20scataboo the highlights from from the game
- 51:22over the weekend that's a big boy doing
- 51:25a backflip in full pads
- 51:28Not just that.
- 51:29He's not running away from anybody.
- 51:33He is just flat.
- 51:35One of us is going down.
- 51:38He doesn't run away from a defender.
- 51:39He just runs at the defender.
- 51:42You rarely see anything like that.
- 51:44He's trying to hurt people.
- 51:46It's fun to watch.
- 51:47When he was at college at Arizona State,
- 51:51he almost single-handedly got them a
- 51:54playoff win.
- 51:56And his head is so big,
- 51:58they have to specially make his helmet.
- 52:04Can you imagine how big a person's head
- 52:07must be that they have to,
- 52:10in all the players that play football,
- 52:13they have to get a special helmet made
- 52:15for him?
- 52:16And he's a running back.
- 52:17He's not a lineman.
- 52:19You know what I'm saying?
- 52:19Like, well,
- 52:20I'm going to generally like these big,
- 52:21ginormous six foot eight nowadays,
- 52:24three hundred and thirty pounds, whatever.
- 52:25No, no.
- 52:26He's a running back, fullback,
- 52:27whatever you want to call it.
- 52:29And yeah,
- 52:30we're going to go in and need to
- 52:31get you a bigger helmet.
- 52:33Yeah.
- 52:34Athleticism is unreal.
- 52:37Yeah.
- 52:37He's just like the comic book character
- 52:40juggernaut.
- 52:41Yeah.
- 52:42That's what they should call him.
- 52:43Yeah.
- 52:47He is the definition of when an
- 52:49unstoppable force meets an immovable
- 52:50object.
- 52:55Now we're getting a lot of smack talk
- 52:56between SEC and Big Ten.
- 52:58And we all know Big Ten's the best,
- 53:00so.
- 53:02Sure we do.
- 53:03Two straight championships, just saying.
- 53:07How many deaths he had before that?
- 53:08Just remind me.
- 53:09I'm trying to remember.
- 53:11My records don't go back that far.
- 53:15I'm telling you, dude,
- 53:16when memes first started becoming a thing,
- 53:18like, on the internet way back in, like,
- 53:21the early two thousands or whatnot,
- 53:24and I had one of,
- 53:28Ohio fans holding up like the O,
- 53:30the H, the I, and the O,
- 53:31but the letters were messed up.
- 53:34So it was like an O, I, H,
- 53:35O, or whatever.
- 53:36It said Ohio,
- 53:37padding the SEC's bowl record since two
- 53:39thousand and whatever.
- 53:40And I was like, that's fantastic.
- 53:42Well,
- 53:43I'm always good for a rip on Ohio
- 53:45State.
- 53:45It's one of it.
- 53:47It was funny enough to me that it's
- 53:49that twenty years later,
- 53:50it's still stuck in my head as one
- 53:51of the funniest things I've ever seen.
- 53:55You're at the game,
- 53:56you're holding up your sign,
- 53:57you know you're going to be on TV,
- 53:59and it's misspelled.
- 54:00You can't ask for better than that.
- 54:01It's like the Snickers commercial.
- 54:06Nice job, but who are the chefs?
- 54:10You had one job.
- 54:11You had one job.
- 54:13And you know that has to be based
- 54:14on some reality.
- 54:16Oh, yeah, a hundred percent.
- 54:17A hundred percent.
- 54:19That's happened before.
- 54:21Hey, Doug, look here.
- 54:23I'm glad your son's over there.
- 54:24He's a phenomenal diver.
- 54:26I've seen the videos.
- 54:27Absolutely.
- 54:28But there's no way I'm not going to
- 54:29rip on Ohio State every chance I get.
- 54:31It's just a thing.
- 54:34His kid diving,
- 54:36like there's zero splash when that kid
- 54:38hits it.
- 54:40My sister was like a...
- 54:43high-end diver in pennsylvania and like
- 54:46that's what your aim is your aim is
- 54:48to make zero splash when you go in
- 54:49and that kid is phenomenal it's ridiculous
- 54:52dude and it's not just it's the all
- 54:55the that goes on before he actually hits
- 54:57the water yeah you've thrown your body
- 55:00around in all these different contortions
- 55:02and ways and then enter the water enter
- 55:04the water with nothing and it hit the
- 55:06water and it like goes
- 55:08There's two drops that kind of get
- 55:10displaced as he's hitting the wall.
- 55:12It's bananas.
- 55:13It's bananas.
- 55:15The crazy part is the NFL XL helmet
- 55:17has a circumference of two feet.
- 55:22That's how he was able to do that
- 55:23backflip.
- 55:24The body goes where the head leads.
- 55:26Once you throw that head, man,
- 55:28it's like a backflip.
- 55:29No matter what,
- 55:31it's going to flip him around that quick.
- 55:33Yeah.
- 55:37Man,
- 55:37now the Buckeye fans are just diving in.
- 55:39You talk shit about Ohio for a second,
- 55:41and everybody just pops in and pops in.
- 55:46A lot of people outside the state don't
- 55:47understand this.
- 55:48You can't just say Ohio.
- 55:49You have to say Ohio State.
- 55:51There is a college here that is Ohio,
- 55:53where my daughter went.
- 55:54And they are bitter rivals,
- 55:56but Ohio State's on a higher tier than
- 55:58Ohio.
- 56:01And they just played like two weeks ago.
- 56:04But Ohio was here first,
- 56:07and Ohio State stole, like,
- 56:09all the stuff from Ohio.
- 56:12Like,
- 56:12the script Ohio was stolen from Ohio,
- 56:15all the stuff.
- 56:19My daughter hates Ohio State because of it
- 56:21all.
- 56:26I'm glad she's that into it.
- 56:28That's awesome, dude.
- 56:30Well, and then, like, twenty,
- 56:31thirty years ago,
- 56:33the mascot for Ohio attacked Brutus the
- 56:36Buckeye.
- 56:38And, like,
- 56:39you can find footage of it online.
- 56:42And he beats the snot out of it.
- 56:43And they showed it on game day two
- 56:44weeks ago.
- 56:46Like, beats the snot out of Brutus.
- 56:48And then he was banned from coming again.
- 56:50And so when they played two weeks ago,
- 56:52they lifted the ban and they let Rufus
- 56:55come back and be at the game with
- 56:58Ohio State there.
- 57:01that's fantastic.
- 57:03And Terry,
- 57:04allegedly that that stuff was stolen from
- 57:07OU.
- 57:07I'm just telling you right now, uh, Mike,
- 57:11the tiger has never actually stolen
- 57:13anything or beaten anybody, uh,
- 57:15beaten another mascot.
- 57:17Yeah,
- 57:17but I would rather be the one that
- 57:19did the beating up than the one who
- 57:20got beat up.
- 57:21Oh, absolutely.
- 57:23One hundred percent.
- 57:24Can you imagine like on the ground?
- 57:27Can you imagine what happened to you?
- 57:28I got beat up by a mascot.
- 57:30I,
- 57:33You got what?
- 57:35Yeah.
- 57:37I don't want to talk about it.
- 57:37Yeah.
- 57:40Google it, man.
- 57:41It's freaking hilarious.
- 57:42I will.
- 57:43I will.
- 57:46I am one hundred percent looking at up
- 57:48here a little bit.
- 57:48That sounds fantastic.
- 57:50I should.
- 57:51I'll Google it now.
- 57:52Yeah.
- 57:53Pull it up.
- 58:00Oh, Andrew in the book, I see.
- 58:05Oh, we got – what was that?
- 58:08Monday.
- 58:11Yeah,
- 58:11Monday was at my daughter's softball game.
- 58:13She got her first hit.
- 58:14Go, James and Joe.
- 58:16We got our apparel list or whatever you
- 58:22want to call it, like for our sizes,
- 58:24for our legends.
- 58:26We had regular tees.
- 58:27We had tank tops and a long sleeve.
- 58:34And that's new.
- 58:37Yeah, that was just for Andrew Sten.
- 58:43Once this ad is done.
- 58:47Everyone that doesn't know the story,
- 58:49and this is a really interesting story.
- 58:51Brandon Henning was the Ohio mascot,
- 58:53and he's one of those guys that he
- 58:55just decided he hated Ohio State,
- 58:57and he hated Ohio State's mascot.
- 58:59So what he decided he was going to
- 59:00do was he was going to train for
- 59:02the opportunity just to beat up
- 59:05Bruce, like that was his whole motion.
- 59:07Like this was a plan that was years
- 59:09in the making.
- 59:10It's insane because he literally did.
- 59:12He was watching TV one day,
- 59:13decided he hated him and decided then to
- 59:17become a mascot just so that he could
- 59:20have this specific moment.
- 59:21That is dedication.
- 59:22I feel like I quote the other guys
- 59:24to a underrated movie,
- 59:26but it reminds me a little bit like
- 59:27when they figured out that Mark Wahlberg
- 59:29learned ballet just to troll an ex.
- 59:31That's what you're doing here.
- 59:32You are dedicating a portion of your life
- 59:34just to this moment.
- 59:35And what's amazing is he dropped out of
- 59:38Ohio University ten days before this.
- 59:40So he wasn't even really a student.
- 59:43He wasn't even supposed to be there.
- 59:45There was nothing.
- 59:46You already decided you were going to drop
- 59:47out.
- 59:48You just made your life dream happen.
- 59:50The only punishment is he had to stand
- 59:51on the sidelines in the mascot uniform for
- 59:53the rest of the rest of the day.
- 59:54So I love the part about because like
- 59:56we were watching.
- 59:57So there you go.
- 59:59That is fantastic.
- 1:00:02Yeah.
- 1:00:04And they can't freaking train for it.
- 1:00:06He trained about ten days before,
- 1:00:09so they couldn't do anything to him.
- 1:00:12It's a genius plan.
- 1:00:15Hey, look here, Terry.
- 1:00:16The line between crazy and genius is often
- 1:00:20a very thin one.
- 1:00:26Yeah.
- 1:00:26It's a shame he dropped out of school
- 1:00:27because if he dedicated himself to
- 1:00:29something, he was successful.
- 1:00:32He's probably a business owner at this
- 1:00:33point.
- 1:00:34Let's be honest.
- 1:00:35Again, just like you said,
- 1:00:36if you are that dedicated enough and
- 1:00:38driven enough to just go, you know what?
- 1:00:41I don't like Ohio State.
- 1:00:42I don't like that mascot.
- 1:00:43I'm going to learn how to become a
- 1:00:44mascot.
- 1:00:45I'm going to get good enough to become
- 1:00:47Ohio's mascot,
- 1:00:48and I'm going to whip that dude's ass
- 1:00:49the first chance I get.
- 1:00:52What a plan.
- 1:00:54I think that's a good place to end.
- 1:00:57Dedicated by hate.
- 1:00:58With that,
- 1:01:03we'll see everybody tomorrow on Lunch with
- 1:01:06the Clydesdale.
- 1:01:07Bye, guys.
