• 0:51
Speaker 1: Mars asked me after the show and I'll tell you what it was, why it dumped out of us and caused all sorts of havoc and panic set in here, oh, panic.
• 1:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, I was declept.
• 1:01
Speaker 1: I'm Don Armstrong, glad you could join us today.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: As you can tell, we've got a new setup, new digs, new digs.
• 1:08
Speaker 1: Yep, gone is the muscle car picture, the license plates, all that.
• 1:14
Speaker 1: We may bring that back for another background view.
• 1:19
  Speaker 3: It's in storage.
• 1:19
Speaker 3: You have all that I do.
• 1:20
Speaker 3: It's just a matter of something new.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, once I get it hung in the garage, I'll take a picture of it.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: Mr morris can put it behind us, or whatever.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: He's in charge of that, aren't you, mr morris?
• 1:31
Speaker 1: Well I hate to take too much responsibility, but yes, I know, because when you take too much responsibility, then you reap my wrath and things go downhill from there.
• 1:43
Speaker 3: No reward you know what rolls downhill?
• 1:45
  Speaker 3: Everything rolls downhill?
• 1:47
  Speaker 1: It always does.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: So do we have Andy and Mercedes?
• 1:51
  Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: Well, let's bring them up, shall we Look there?
• 1:55
Speaker 5: they are Hi, hey, hello, hello.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: Look, it's you guys.
• 2:00
Speaker 1: You got a big smile on your face.
• 2:01
Speaker 1: You're not drug out, war out on the road.
• 2:05
  Speaker 1: How long?
• 2:07
Speaker 1: Let's start at the beginning.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: What is the Alcan?
• 2:10
  Speaker 1: 5000 for everybody.
• 2:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, the Alcan 5000 is North America's longest road rally.
• 2:17
Speaker 2: It starts in Kirkland, washington, in the Seattle area, and then goes north.
• 2:22
Speaker 2: So and we're talking way north, all the way up to Alaska, sometimes all the way to the Arctic Ocean this year was a summer rally.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: It alternates like summer, winter, sort of like the Olympics.
• 2:32
Speaker 2: And this year was a little bit of a special one because it was a sort of a makeup rally, bridging 2024's winter and 2026's summer.
• 2:42
Speaker 5: so they threw in another summer rally in 2025 yeah, and we ended up driving a 2026 honda passport trail sport for it oh, it was a honda.
• 2:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, it was it was so dirty yeah, we like to get things dirty and we love to go off-road.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: We're one of the few that I see, for whatever reason.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: Well, I know why because the last one you did, you guys took was a subaru that's right across america yeah, and I thought that this was that, but it's not.
• 3:14
Speaker 5: It's the honda correct, right, yeah, we did the transamerica trail, uh, all the way from the east coast, all the way to the west coast in a subaru uh cross truck wilderness.
• 3:23
Speaker 5: And then we switched gears and we partnered with Honda for the Alcan 5000 Rally.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: Now let's explain to everybody the 5000.
• 3:31
  Speaker 1: So it's both on-road and off-road, Emphasis on off-road.
• 3:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, so this year ended up being around 5,500 total miles on this event.
• 3:44
Speaker 5: It exceeded all the extreme controls.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: And then there's around 900 miles of dirt and gravel approximately.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: And then you have each day you have a time speed distance rally, one, maybe two, and that's the competition part of it.
• 3:56
Speaker 2: So you're not rallying 5,000 miles of pure time speed distance rally.
• 4:02
Speaker 2: You have one in the morning and then possibly one in the afternoon, depending on the schedule.
• 4:06
Speaker 5: Right, and as far as off-road is concerned, we're talking about a lot of gravel, a lot of dirt roads, dirt highways, things like that.
• 4:12
Speaker 5: So it's not off-road rock crawling, not Moab, not that type of off-road per se.
• 4:18
Speaker 5: But, we got to make miles.
• 4:19
Speaker 5: I mean, this is only an 11-day competition and it can go as high as almost nearly 6,000 miles an 11-day competition and it can go as high as almost nearly 6,000 miles if you think about it.
• 4:28
  Speaker 5: Wow.
• 4:29
Speaker 1: Oh my gosh and you guys survived all of that.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: How did the car do?
• 4:33
Speaker 2: The car did great.
• 4:34
Speaker 2: I was the driver, Mercedes was the navigator and the car did really well.
• 4:38
Speaker 2: So it comes with a factory all-terrain tires from General General Grabbers.
• 4:43
  Speaker 2: They did great.
• 4:44
Speaker 2: We had zero flat tires, unlike some of the other competitors.
• 4:47
Speaker 2: And then it has a variety of different driving modes so we were able to switch it into like trail mode or sand mode, depending on the road surface, and the vehicle did very well.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: It's pretty big, it's comfortable and had plenty of power to get past slow rvs on the alcan, on the alaska highway or, uh, lumbering log trucks on the back roads did you spend the night in it?
• 5:15
Speaker 2: no, this one, this rally, we don't this rally.
• 5:19
Speaker 2: We go to hotels, yeah, or motels motels yeah, that's it the motor lodge.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: Yes, as it were, all right, so, um, I guess it came in second place.
• 5:33
  Speaker 1: What?
• 5:34
Speaker 4: like overall out of everybody yeah, this year.
• 5:38
Speaker 4: That's pretty good yeah, yeah.
• 5:41
Speaker 5: So, um, we did second place overall and we, we returned and we took first place in our 2S class again.
• 5:48
Speaker 5: We did that in winter 2024 with Ineos Grenadier.
• 5:51
Speaker 5: Huge hats off to all of the new teams that were there.
• 5:55
Speaker 5: There were many new teams, whether they were in vehicles of different types or motorcycles.
• 5:59
Speaker 5: In summer there are motos that are allowed to rally as well, and, man, we admire those new teams.
• 6:05
Speaker 5: They were hungry, they were talented, they learned a lot and their scores improved so drastically.
• 6:11
Speaker 5: It was so much fun to see them grow and get better as the rally went on.
• 6:16
Speaker 3: So do you think maybe you would have came in first place if Mercedes drove?
• 6:20
Speaker 5: No, well, probably not, because Peter Schneider and his driver, rich Peter, is an excellent, long time probably 30, 40 year long veteran of TSD rally time, speed distance rally and man to dethrone him, I don't know.
• 6:35
Speaker 5: There would be a lot of magic involved with it and a heck of a lot of luck.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: So the other thing to remember is Peter and his co-driver were in what we call the unlimited category.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: So they have a rally computer that is telling them to go faster, go slower, et cetera, et cetera.
• 7:01
Speaker 5: We're in what they call the SOP or seat of pants class, which is all math, which is all you know.
• 7:03
Speaker 5: I'm using my spidey sense to like I think we need to go a little faster, a little slower.
• 7:05
Speaker 5: So, essentially, kids, I've got a kid's calculator, a lime green one that I bought off Amazon for like six bucks kitchen timer, and so that's as fancy as we are.
• 7:10
Speaker 5: And everybody else has got like a you know big rally app or you know unlimited, like a calculator or things like that, and I'm sitting here being like I got my stuff off by Amazon and here I go press the button, Is that?
• 7:19
Speaker 4: because of the rules I mean, or is you just choose?
• 7:20
Speaker 4: Is that because of the rules I mean, or you just choose to do it that way?
• 7:26
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: So it just depends on what class you're in.
• 7:28
Speaker 2: If you're running a rally computer, which is basically defined as anything that will do automatic calculations for you while you're on the move, they're going to put you in the unlimited category.
• 7:44
Speaker 2: If you're just going with pen and paper, a basic calculator, or, like we have, aps speedometer too, um, that's not doing any calculations for us.
• 7:49
Speaker 2: It's showing us what we're doing, but it's not calculating.
• 7:51
Speaker 3: Go fast, go slow, then you can be in the sop class so when the alarm goes off, do you turn left or is the cake ready?
• 8:01
  Speaker 4: so.
• 8:01
Speaker 4: But so the car doesn't really make that much difference as to the class, no Well, yes or no, there's different classes per vehicle.
• 8:10
Speaker 5: So there's autos that are like sedans or coupes or things like that, and then there's truck and SUV.
• 8:15
Speaker 5: So anything, 2u is two unlimited truck and SUV, and then 2S is SLP or seat of pants, cause we're right.
• 8:24
Speaker 2: And this year there weren't very many cars there was a, there was a, an older Audi Quattro, there was a Porsche 911 and there was a Volvo I think that was a V70.
• 8:41
Speaker 5: But they did well, they came in, I think third overall, third overall, yeah, in Unlimited In.
• 8:46
  Speaker 2: Unlimited.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: Overall they were an Unlimited class car.
• 8:50
Speaker 2: So first place went to Peter and his co-driver in a Bronco and then us in the Honda, and then third place was Lance and his co-driver in their Volvo.
• 9:00
Speaker 5: And we got to say it was a Bronco rental.
• 9:07
Speaker 4: There their Volvo and we got to say it was a Bronco rental.
• 9:09
Speaker 4: There have been multiple that have won Alcan over the years, so they fly up there and rent a car.
• 9:11
Speaker 2: They were from the East Coast.
• 9:11
Speaker 2: Forget about it, you've got to feel bad about that.
• 9:15
Speaker 1: They know a guy.
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: Yeah, I know a guy.
• 9:17
  Speaker 1: That's it.
• 9:17
Speaker 5: There have been people that have driven their vehicles from the East Coast to the Alcan start, so they've had to cross the whole entire continent in order to start the rally.
• 9:26
Speaker 5: That's happened before too.
• 9:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, people come from all over.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: I mean we've had people from Sweden, we've had people from Taiwan, we've had people from all over the world do the Alcan 5000.
• 9:35
Speaker 2: It's a pretty neat cadre of folks.
• 9:40
Speaker 1: How many years have you done this?
• 9:42
Speaker 2: This is our fourth year.
• 9:44
Speaker 1: Fourth year, and is it a different route every time?
• 9:48
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, it starts out the same generally when you leave Seattle and you typically spend the night in Quesnel, british Columbia.
• 9:55
Speaker 2: That's almost a given every time.
• 9:56
Speaker 2: From there, it depends on the route, so it always dips into Alaska.
• 10:01
Speaker 2: It's always going to go into the Yukon Territories this year we did not go into Alberta and we also didn or the Northwest Territories.
• 10:10
  Speaker 3: So how many?
• 10:11
Speaker 3: You're a husband and wife team.
• 10:12
Speaker 3: Are there other husband and wife teams, or maybe all women teams?
• 10:15
Speaker 3: How does does that all apply?
• 10:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, not many Right, but there are a few, yep.
• 10:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, there were a couple of other husband and wife teams.
• 10:24
Speaker 2: Our friends Jesse and Debbie Hires were were a team.
• 10:28
Speaker 5: And then they decided to compete.
• 10:29
Speaker 5: This year They've worked many of the events the Alcan 5000 rallies and this time they went full bore in and they competed and they did great.
• 10:38
Speaker 2: They were one of the rookie teams In 2022, there was an all-female team driving an Audi as well, so, yeah, you get all kinds.
• 10:49
Speaker 3: So what do we need to do?
• 10:50
Speaker 5: to send Mike on the next one.
• 10:51
Speaker 5: Sign up now because registration is available for 2026 summer.
• 10:55
Speaker 1: I'm thinking maybe perhaps one of those uh, one person trailers behind it and you can keep him back there as you do the off-road section.
• 11:03
Speaker 5: I could take pictures yeah, there's a lot of.
• 11:05
Speaker 5: You should have seen the honda man.
• 11:06
Speaker 5: We were so caked full of mud.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: I mean, we did all the optional extreme control routes which basically that can garner you an extra award, the Go Farther Award.
• 11:14
Speaker 5: And we always do that because for us it's like all right, we're reviewing this vehicle, right, we're photographing the vehicle.
• 11:19
Speaker 5: We want to really test it in an extreme safe environment, and this year we had four different extreme controls.
• 11:26
Speaker 5: We took the dumpster all the way up to the Arctic Circle and back, so we hit the Arctic Circle with it.
• 11:30
Speaker 5: And then we did Telegraph Creek, which is where it was raining.
• 11:34
Speaker 5: There's a lot of shale, rock and mud and it got lots of layers of mud plus two other controls too.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: Now this is considered the summer event.
• 11:42
  Speaker 2: Yes, correct.
• 11:44
Speaker 4: Because of the weather and the conditions and stuff that you go on.
• 11:47
Speaker 4: But then you also compete in the winter event.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, the winter a is a whole nother beast.
• 11:54
Speaker 2: Uh, because not only are you doing the same crazy amounts of mileage, it's not fewer miles, it's the same amount of miles.
• 12:01
Speaker 2: And then you have to worry about, like you know, survival, dying yeah but you were talking about it kind of starts at seattle.
• 12:07
Speaker 4: I mean, does the winter start in seattle?
• 12:09
Speaker 4: Same place, same time usually.
• 12:10
Speaker 2: Yes, it does, yes, yes, it's uh, and it just depends the first year we did this in 2020, I mean, does the winter start in Seattle, same place, same time?
• 12:12
Speaker 2: Usually, yes, it does, yes, yes, and it just depends.
• 12:14
Speaker 2: The first year we did this in 2020, once we got to Quinnell, british Columbia, we never saw bare pavement for 5,000 more miles, wow.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: And in 2024, when we did it and we won our class in the Ineos, grenadier, we didn't even see snow until we got to Yellowknife, northwest Territories, but then it was 35 below zero.
• 12:33
Speaker 5: Right, and it was.
• 12:34
Speaker 5: I think it was a 60 degree drop in one, like in two hours.
• 12:37
Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, talk about migraine city for me, but it's all part of it.
• 12:41
Speaker 5: I mean the weather, especially for the winter it can be so extreme.
• 12:44
Speaker 5: We've seen almost up to negative 50 with standing.
• 12:51
Speaker 5: Not even wind chills, standing temperatures, negative 50 below zero, blizzards.
• 12:53
Speaker 5: We've had highways closed down behind us.
• 12:56
Speaker 5: I mean you name it.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: Boy, there's something to look forward to.
• 13:01
Speaker 1: Are you guys going to do that this year?
• 13:05
Speaker 2: So the next Alcan will be next year, and that's the summer again, and then winter will be scheduled for 2028 okay, so what are you doing between now and then?
• 13:16
Speaker 1: what have you got planned?
• 13:18
  Speaker 2: yeah, sleep.
• 13:19
Speaker 2: Uh, we've got articles we're going to be writing.
• 13:23
Speaker 1: Uh, we've got, uh, a few other, a few other things we're working on, yeah so you're in other words, uh, when we have the in-wheel time cross-country trek tour, that we can count on you to sign up for that?
• 13:38
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, We'll lead it.
• 13:41
Speaker 1: Yes, you will, because we'll all be sitting back going.
• 13:46
Speaker 4: We'll be in the trailer.
• 13:47
Speaker 4: We'll be in the trailer.
• 13:48
Speaker 1: We'll be in the trailer, that's right.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: Well, it sounds like you guys had a ton of fun and it was all safe.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: Do you find yourself learning something after each one of these?
• 13:57
  Speaker 1: Oh?
• 13:58
Speaker 2: for sure, for sure.
• 14:00
Speaker 2: Every year it's like, okay, well, we didn't need to bring this or we should have brought this.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: We're getting pretty good.
• 14:06
Speaker 2: You know, leaning out the summer ones is the summer one is way easier to pack for, because you're not bringing down jackets and survival gear and all that kind of stuff, and also the passport had lots of space so we weren't crammed in there like sardines well.
• 14:20
Speaker 5: And the other thing, too is, as a navigator, you know I learned from a lot of the different teams.
• 14:25
Speaker 5: You know you come away with, oh, that's how this person did it, or this, this rookie figured it out this way, and that's a really great way to adapt to, you know, challenging situation or that had, or you know what may have you and you know Rich and Peter.
• 14:38
Speaker 5: Peter was instrumental too.
• 14:39
Speaker 5: He was part of our buddy car system.
• 14:42
Speaker 5: So it's great, I mean, for me.
• 14:44
Speaker 5: Not only are you learning about a new vehicle right, because we're journalists and we test vehicles in an unconventional manner a lot of the times but we also learn a lot about each other and learn a lot from other teams.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: I just can't imagine the fun that that would be.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: I mean the learning experience for one.
• 15:05
Speaker 1: And as you kind of touched on learning about each other and I know that I always bring this up I'm thinking well, did y'all have any big blowout fights on the on the way?
• 15:19
Speaker 5: no, I don't think for this one we're pretty even keel on this one.
• 15:28
Speaker 2: But you know, we always tell each other like beforehand, like all right, just remember, like give each other some grace here it's going to be a pressure cooker and it does.
• 15:37
Speaker 2: You know, these, these, uh, these events lend themselves to high pressure scenarios.
• 15:44
Speaker 5: You know you, you have a root book right that looks like this.
• 15:46
Speaker 5: You might not be able to see it well, but you know you have.
• 15:48
Speaker 5: You know, when you're doing the TSD portion of it, you have a certain speed, you need to hit a certain odometer length and then you have to turn right and they have to make up that time because you're turning, then you have to stop, then you have to switch speeds, all that type of stuff.
• 16:00
Speaker 5: So I'm constantly telling him he's constantly going what actually not really, but he's he's listening to what I'm saying to try to be perfectly on time that no matter who you are, if your father, son or husband, wife or friends or something like that, can get really tense, especially if you're off time, you missed a turn.
• 16:18
Speaker 5: So yeah it it.
• 16:19
Speaker 5: It can be quite a bit.
• 16:20
Speaker 1: Do you hear that Mars, do you?
• 16:21
  Speaker 4: hear that Mars.
• 16:22
Speaker 4: What I'm wondering about is do they have a safe word when it gets really heavy going?
• 16:27
Speaker 4: You know, I'm telling you bubbles.
• 16:34
Speaker 3: I'm telling you, it is bubbles actually.
• 16:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, so, andy, are you the one that?
• 16:37
Speaker 2: kind of like caves or gives in and says, well, okay, we'll do it your way, oh all the time?
• 16:39
Speaker 4: yeah, well, she's the navigator and she's going to navigate whether you're in a rally or not.
• 16:43
Speaker 1: So I mean, all of us guys hope.
• 16:45
Speaker 2: Well, you know the joke is you know, this tsd thing works so well because she gets to tell me what to do all the time.
• 16:52
Speaker 4: Uh-huh, it just fits in with the normal flow of life.
• 16:56
Speaker 4: I mean, that's just the way it is.
• 16:57
Speaker 2: She sits on the right of the car because she's always right, yeah.
• 17:00
  Speaker 5: I love that.
• 17:03
  Speaker 1: That works great.
• 17:04
Speaker 1: Well, listen, congratulations on obviously a lot of success on this thing, and we always love talking to you guys.
• 17:12
Speaker 1: We kind of live our lives through you.
• 17:14
  Speaker 4: Vicariously.
• 17:15
  Speaker 4: Yeah, yes.
• 17:16
Speaker 1: So there's always that factor and I'm sure that you guys got followers all over the world and we're just one of them and we do appreciate all that you do and get to share your experiences with us.
• 17:28
Speaker 1: We want to keep up with you throughout the year, whether you're on the road or not.
• 17:34
Speaker 1: How do we do that?
• 17:35
Speaker 2: You can follow us at Crankshaft Culture.
• 17:38
Speaker 2: That's going to be Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Blue Sky Threads, all the things, and that's the best way.
• 17:45
  Speaker 2: Also, crankshaftculturecom.
• 17:47

Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, racing Jeff has that sponsored by Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
• 21:12
Speaker 3: Thank, you for that folks.
• 21:13
Speaker 3: The Craftsman Truck Series the qualifying was last night.
• 21:17
Speaker 3: The race is going to be run today.
• 21:18
Speaker 3: They're at Bristol, I'm sorry, they're at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
• 21:22
Speaker 3: So that's for the Craftsman Truck.
• 21:24
  Speaker 3: They're in a playoff position.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: The Xfinity Racing folks are off.
• 21:27
Speaker 3: They will be back on the 27th, which is next week.
• 21:30
Speaker 3: They're going to be in Kansas and then this week for the Cup guys.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: They're going to be in new hampshire, much like the truck boys are.
• 21:35
Speaker 3: Uh, that race is going to be on the usa network at two o'clock tomorrow.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: Imsa, haven't talked about those folks for a while, but it's the battle of the bricks.
• 21:43
Speaker 3: They're at indianapolis and it's tomorrow on peacock.
• 21:46
  Speaker 3: So it's 11 30 in the morning.
• 21:48
Speaker 3: And then for you, michael, we got azerbaijan grand prix for 40 to 1 51 lapper in a baku city circuit and show me that I want to see that baku, baku city.
• 22:02
Speaker 3: Yeah, baku city it's like motor city louisiana in baku's.
• 22:06
Speaker 3: That's not louisiana, it's not louisiana.
• 22:09
Speaker 3: But you probably could get some good louisiana food down there, I'm sure, I'm sure.
• 22:12
Speaker 3: And then of course, we all know indy's.
• 22:14
Speaker 3: Indy's done for the season, so, uh, racing's kind of unwinding.
• 22:18
Speaker 3: But your circle tracks, your local folks, get out and support them.
• 22:22
Speaker 3: If there's, there's a big event here in town, absolutely, if you're not going to watch it on tv and you don't support those, support your local folks time now for this week in auto history, mr Morris yeah, buddy, we got a few things that we're going to run through real quick here, and one of them is that this week in 1908, general motors was founded in flint, michigan.
• 22:42
Speaker 4: Uh, william c durant is actually who did this, and he was actually using it for a holding company for buick, but he's a boy, just sir billy boy, billy boy, billy boy durant, yeah, that's him.
• 22:55
Speaker 4: So he turned gm into Osmo.
• 22:58
Speaker 4: He brought in Osmo Cadillac and made this a conglomerate that offers cars for every budget around the world.
• 23:03
Speaker 4: Also this week, in 1916, was it's kind of not necessarily a car, but it's automotive.
• 23:12
Speaker 4: This is the first time a tank was used in the military.
• 23:17
Speaker 4: Now this is part of the credit as part of the automotive.
• 23:19
Speaker 4: Design is really what made this thing possible.
• 23:21
Speaker 4: The british actually used it and, uh, they still use them today.
• 23:25
Speaker 4: So, running on into 1920, walter p chrysler and it always amazes me, there's actually a guy named chrysler.
• 23:33
Speaker 4: He joined the maxwell motor company.
• 23:35
Speaker 4: Now that was kind of struggling.
• 23:36
Speaker 4: He would already been with buick and Willis Overland, but he took Maxwell and put it all together to start the empire that we now know as the Chrysler Corporation and has evolved into Stellantis as part of the big three that's up there in Detroit.
• 23:50
Speaker 4: I want to go back this is for you Don?
• 23:51
  Speaker 4: Yeah, 1935.
• 23:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, the Swallow Sidecar Company brought out its new sports sedan under the name Jaguar at the Mayfair Hotel in London.
• 24:02
Speaker 4: It was a 2.5 liter saloon type car with sleek styling and performance and actually quickly gained a lot of admiration and the name Jaguar for a while was synonymous with performance and style.
• 24:19
Speaker 4: Moving on to, in 1948, Citroën, Actually the 2CV.
• 24:23
Speaker 4: Now, this is really.
• 24:24
Speaker 4: It's not a mainstream in America.
• 24:27
Speaker 1: But it's yeah, wait a minute, can we go back, did you say?
• 24:31
Speaker 3: Citroën or Prevagen Prevagen.
• 24:34
Speaker 4: I think it was Prevagen.
• 24:35
  Speaker 1: Citroën.
• 24:36
Speaker 1: Well, I think that this is the Citroën Cit Prevagen.
• 24:37
Speaker 1: I think it was.
• 24:37
  Speaker 4: Prevagen Citroen.
• 24:38
Speaker 1: I think that this is the.
• 24:39
Speaker 4: Citroen, citroen, I'll take your word for that.
• 24:41
Speaker 4: It was unveiled in 1948 at the Paris.
• 24:45
  Speaker 4: Auto Show.
• 24:45
Speaker 4: Really, what made it famous was because the part of their marketing was it'll carry four people and a basket of eggs.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: They used that as part of their marketing.
• 24:55
Speaker 4: They sold over five million of the two CV Lots of eggs, lots of eggs, lots of eggs.
• 25:01
Speaker 4: Then in 1947, tucker 48s today and production halted.
• 25:08
Speaker 4: Now they've been through a lot of federal investigations.
• 25:10
Speaker 4: A lot of people think there was a lot of reasons, a lot of backdooring investigations going on, but they had to actually stop full-scale production.
• 25:18
Speaker 4: It was a very innovative car and a lot of people think that's the reason that they got investigated so much, because they were so far ahead of everybody else in the industry.
• 25:27
Speaker 4: There were only 51 cars were ever built and between the government and financial they just couldn't continue.
• 25:34
Speaker 4: And a lot of the things that they did with that Tucker car are still out there in the automotive world today.
• 25:40
Speaker 4: And then, lastly, I wanted to throw out here I thought it was rather interesting 1948, the Honda Motor Company was founded making bicycles.
• 25:48
Speaker 4: They were actually motorized bicycles and this is what led them into the motorcycle and then that's what led them into the cars to where they are worldwide these days, and that is this week in automotive history.
• 26:01
Speaker 1: I have to tell you that in 1947, my dad tells me this I wasn't born, thank you.
• 26:07
Speaker 1: But he and my mom went from right outside Milwaukee, drove down to Chicago to go see the Tucker at Soldier Field in Chicago Really yeah.
• 26:20
Speaker 1: And he says it was a big, huge crowd and it was a very innovative car and it made an impression on him.
• 26:28
Speaker 1: Tucker's never been recalled.
• 26:30
  Speaker 3: No, they haven't.
• 26:31
Speaker 3: The thing about your Honda bicycle, mike Honda, they had to build that in secret because you had to have a license for gasoline and they were not.
• 26:41
Speaker 3: Everybody could get gasoline.
• 26:42
Speaker 3: So it was like on the QT you had to smuggle gasoline into these bike shops so they could experiment.
