- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another episode? Lucas: Today we're going to the market again — but this time we'll focus on vegetables. Luna: Oh, I love vegetables. We learned some in Episode 58, right? Lucas: Exactly. We learned die Karotte, die Tomate, die Gurke, die Paprika, and die Zwiebel. Today we'll use them in sentences. Luna: Great. So what's the first phrase? Lucas: Let's start with 'Ich möchte Tomaten.' That means 'I would like tomatoes.' Luna: Ich möchte Tomaten. Lucas: Perfect. 'Ich möchte' is 'I would like.' Repeat it after me: Ich möchte Tomaten. Luna: Ich möchte Tomaten. Lucas: Good. Now imagine you're at the market. You see potatoes. You ask: 'Wie viel kosten die Kartoffeln?' — How much do the potatoes cost? Luna: Wie viel kosten die Kartoffeln? Lucas: Yes. 'Kartoffeln' are potatoes. Repeat: Wie viel kosten die Kartoffeln? Luna: Wie viel kosten die Kartoffeln? Lucas: Now, you see a nice cucumber. You can say: 'Die Gurke ist frisch.' — The cucumber is fresh. Luna: Die Gurke ist frisch. Lucas: Good. 'Frisch' means fresh. Try it: Die Gurke ist frisch. Luna: Die Gurke ist frisch. Lucas: Now, if you decide to buy the bell pepper, say: 'Ich nehme die Paprika.' — I'll take the bell pepper. Luna: Ich nehme die Paprika. Lucas: Exactly. 'Nehme' comes from 'nehmen', to take. Repeat: Ich nehme die Paprika. Luna: Ich nehme die Paprika. Lucas: And if you want to ask if they have onions: 'Haben Sie Zwiebeln?' — Do you have onions? Luna: Haben Sie Zwiebeln? Lucas: Perfect. 'Haben Sie' is a polite way to ask. Repeat: Haben Sie Zwiebeln? Luna: Haben Sie Zwiebeln? Lucas: Great. Now let's put it all together in a little scene. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: You're at the market. You see tomatoes. What do you say? Luna: Ich möchte Tomaten. Lucas: Then you see potatoes and ask the price. Luna: Wie viel kosten die Kartoffeln? Lucas: The seller says they're two euros. You pick up a cucumber and comment. Luna: Die Gurke ist frisch. Lucas: You decide to buy the bell pepper. Luna: Ich nehme die Paprika. Lucas: And you ask about onions. Luna: Haben Sie Zwiebeln?
