- 0:12Good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome to car Talk. Wow,
- 0:15what a morning we got going on here. We got a house full
- 0:18of Brad Dungeons with the Dungeons family of bottles. How are we doing?
- 0:21Good morning, Good morning friends. Yes, it's truck months. We're off
- 0:24and running. Have been running hard for the last couple of weeks, selling
- 0:28lots of Ford trucks and getting more vehicles in. We've got a great selection
- 0:32right now and great, really great interest rates on the F one fifties,
- 0:37and they just announced zero percent on the Tundras. So finally Toyota is coming
- 0:42to the game with some good interest rates to help overcome stuff. I've got
- 0:45Trevor Dorsey here from Regent Bank. What do you think of the interest rates
- 0:49now? Well, you know he gets zero percent. That's that's pretty good
- 0:52right there. I don't know. I guess the Fed was talking to Congress
- 0:56yesterday and today. What do you think they're going to hold off? Huh?
- 1:00I don't know. If I did, maybe i'd have an umbrella beach
- 1:03somewhere, but they always do kind of polar opposite of what I'm thinking.
- 1:07But I do think we'll see interest rates decrease this year. Hopefully at some
- 1:11point. Yeah, that's not what you're here to talk about though, so
- 1:14sorry about that. Oh you're here because you're on the show committee at the
- 1:19Washington County Junior Livestock Show, and I've got Jace Perrier here from the show,
- 1:25and you're going to show some heifer's out there. Yeah. Great,
- 1:29welcome to the show. It's a great to have you again. We've had
- 1:33the show Livestock Show, i think, on the radio show every year since
- 1:38we started the radio show, and I was looking at what I think is
- 1:42that the first time my father showed an animal and the show was in nineteen
- 1:45fifty two. So long relationship here. Yeah, and we were really proud
- 1:52to continue that and really honor people like Jac that put in all the hard
- 1:56work throughout the year to reach this point. The culmination not really. I
- 2:00mean, there's lots of shows you'd probably go to, but but this is
- 2:02the local one and the stuff that matters in your our community and you're with
- 2:07your friends and the people in your four h and that stuff, so it
- 2:12matters a lot. So tell us what are you going to show, Jac?
- 2:16What do you have for I'm exhibiting three breeding hippers and this will be
- 2:21my last year. We've been doing it for ever since my brother was nine,
- 2:27so we've been at it for a while and it's crazy to think that
- 2:29it's last year and it's it's coming to an end. Well, these things
- 2:34continue generationally, that's in the in our business. You know, I'm a
- 2:38third generation guy and we started April will be our eighty fourth year since we
- 2:44founded in Bartlesville. And you know, that's how my father got started doing
- 2:47what you guys were doing. And he really he was He credited his experience
- 2:53with four H with all, you know, when he got thrust into leadership
- 2:55in the car business and and other stuff with what he's did it for H
- 3:00was what made him really lean into that. And and I know he's supported
- 3:06for H his whole life, and he was great. It was a great
- 3:07honor him to be He was putt in Oklahoma for H Hall of Fame,
- 3:10so maybe you can you can do that someday. He was an Oklahoma governoratorial
- 3:15candidate too and sent to the to the All States off back in the day.
- 3:20So it was a great time for him and we're really proud of those
- 3:23memories in the family. So Trevor you've been doing this a long time too,
- 3:30and I believe in memory serves me correct. I've been on the committee
- 3:36for eight years, I think so, and kind of in Jes always told
- 3:44him if they voted me chairman, I'd resign, so they got been vice
- 3:47chairman most of that time. And unfortunately we had one of one of our
- 3:53members that has been integral and agriculture in this this area for a long time
- 4:00since the eighties, Randy Peartle passed away as a chairman, and so I
- 4:03moved into the chairman's role, and so big shoes to fill. And uh,
- 4:10he was a great guy, and we worked with him for a long
- 4:12time on our our scholarships and and really sad to lose it. Certainly,
- 4:17certainly we'll miss him. But you know, we we've got another great show
- 4:21this year, and and as Jasey said, we've got a lot of good
- 4:25kids like like her that are showing and that have these projects and have worked
- 4:29hard all year. I would encourage anybody in the community, as I do
- 4:32every year, if you haven't been to one of the shows, I encourage
- 4:35you to get out the next two days. They'll be going all day.
- 4:39This morning is Swine this afternoon is I believe, chickens and rabbits, and
- 4:46then or later this evening rather and then uh, tomorrow morning it'll be sheep
- 4:53and goats, and then tomorrow afternoon we'll get into uh the cattle, which
- 4:57jac will be involved with. And so even though it's a little rainy today,
- 5:01you will be in indoors, So if you come out to watch,
- 5:04you'll be inside. We'll be getting away. The barns are mostly covered,
- 5:08yeah, and and it's a great experience for you to see and interact with
- 5:13these kids walk through the barns. The barns were my favorite. I remember
- 5:17as a kid my father was also a judge like Tulsa State Fair, and
- 5:21that was one of my favorite things to do is go run around while he
- 5:24was judging the animals and just hang out but in the barns with the people
- 5:28that were going to show them up next. And it's a great, great
- 5:31experience. Saturday night is when the sale takes place. And so that's that's
- 5:35what these these young men and women in FFA and four h have been working
- 5:40very hard to get to that sale, and that's where we have the opportunity
- 5:45to buy their premiums and sponsor them in that regard, we usually have a
- 5:48great turnout. And if you don't have a big budget, that's okay.
- 5:54You can do add ons for all of the exhibitors, not even even all
- 6:00of them that that didn't make the show, you still have a chance to
- 6:01do add ons for them, which is very helpful. I mean, these
- 6:04kids have a lot of money tied up in these projects. If if you
- 6:08don't know what what it costs to buy a heifer or steer, I'm sure
- 6:12jac can can let us in on that. But it's not cheap. Same
- 6:15thing with that and the feed and and all the other work. I mean,
- 6:18we're I mean the hours you put into it. Yeah, they eat
- 6:21more than my three, my three boys, so they do eat a lot.
- 6:27It is expensive. I have the small herd myself, so I know
- 6:30what it costs to keep them up. And uh so any add on you
- 6:33can do. Uh And I go to premium sales across Oklahoma and even Kansas,
- 6:40and so every dollar really helps these kids and what they're doing. And
- 6:45so we we just encourage you to come out and again if you don't,
- 6:47if you don't have a budget where you can sponsor one of them by buying
- 6:51their their premium, then we would encourage you, if you know these kids,
- 6:55to at least give them an add on that that helps all those add
- 6:58ons add up and hopefully it covers the total expense that they've got in the
- 7:02animal and some of them that are going to be coming back in o JC
- 7:05unfortunately or maybe fortunately in her mind as a senior, so we won't get
- 7:11to we won't get to work with our again next year, but there are
- 7:14a lot of exhibitors that will be back in coming years and so we want
- 7:16them to continue to be able to do these projects. Well, these things
- 7:19do keep starting over again. That's one of the great things about this for
- 7:23so long is it. Did you know you do kind of phase out and
- 7:26go on. I'm sure you've got plans for next year starting to get that
- 7:30set up, and what are your plans. I'm going to attend Oklahoma State
- 7:33University in the fall and I'm going to study animal science and then I hope
- 7:36to go into pharmaceutical school after that. So wonder what my father did.
- 7:41He went into animal husbandry and and yeah, I know that's a great path.
- 7:45Come luck with that, thank you, And I know we've added some
- 7:47more animals recently, I think, what is it the boiler chickens and rabbits,
- 7:54so meat rabbits and so we're done just as proud to have given the
- 7:59Showmanship Award winners, uh the Senior Champions scholarships the last many years, and
- 8:05we're going to expand that to six scholarships this year and really proud of that
- 8:09and so and will be Uh. I guess I've been aware. I had
- 8:15an employee was who his daughter was really into the rabbits, showing rabbits or
- 8:20goes all over the country. Uh. So that this is you know,
- 8:24they're expanding the show. That let's expand certainly, like you said, Brad,
- 8:28expands the opportunity for other kids to show. You know, not maybe
- 8:33not everybody has a setup where they could have a hog or goat or sheep
- 8:39or cattle. But and I know the city council it's penangling where you can
- 8:45have you know, some rabbits and chickens in town. So if you are
- 8:50not you know, outside to see them, it's where you have the capacity
- 8:54to have one of those other animals. Then you could show the boilers or
- 8:58the rabbits and that that's that's really neat, I think because it expands that
- 9:03opportunity for all kids, and you know, not not every f f A
- 9:07or four age kids shows uh. You know, one of the things that
- 9:11maybe if if people aren't familiar with FFA and four h there's all kinds of
- 9:15their speech and debate competitions. There's a lot more than Yeah, there's a
- 9:20plethora of things that they can do. And Bartlesville has a f f A
- 9:26chapter now and they didn't for the longest time, and I think that just
- 9:28came into play in the last couple of years and fortunately I was able to
- 9:31be part of that. And now we're building a facility out by the high
- 9:35school. But it's going to be gonna be really nice in a couple of
- 9:37weeks. And a lot of the other schools you know, like uh uh
- 9:41Ramona, Coopan and Dewey, they have you know, facilities and and and
- 9:46we haven't, but we're we're going to have that now. And so we
- 9:48think the community of Barsville for doing that. So now all four schools are
- 9:52really aligned to really uh give those opportunities on the FFA side, and and
- 9:58we do have really good four age chapter for so right that always helps row
- 10:01and it is one of those things and we you know, Jasey is a
- 10:05good example of it. We were talking about it with my dad. These
- 10:07what we call sparks on the show and at the dealership. These things start
- 10:11and you started doing this and now you're going on to college and studying that
- 10:16and uh, you know that has to happen and it gives you that structure
- 10:20and responsibility you Chad, right, I mean, what do you think is
- 10:24the most important stuff you've learned through this process? Man, I've learned a
- 10:28lot. It's it's really taught me a lot of like hard work, dedication,
- 10:33what what you put into it is what you're gonna get out of it.
- 10:37And my family we've we've put everything into it and I couldn't thank them
- 10:41enough for it. And me and my brother we've been at it for a
- 10:45long time. We've went all over all over the United States show and Heifer's
- 10:48and we've been blessed with some pretty big wins. And it's it's taught me
- 10:56a lot. It's really shaped me into who I am today, and I'm
- 11:00very thankful for it. Awesome, that's that's great. You know. So
- 11:03that's one of those things that the show is really all about in all these
- 11:07programs. So it's great to have you here to exhibit that. Now.
- 11:11You know, you mentioned Ford Truck Month and there are some great incentives out
- 11:15there. I mentioned the F one fifty. There's they just expanded it to
- 11:20more lines. It was on XLT last month, but you can get zero
- 11:24percent one nine, three nine all the way out to seventy two months or
- 11:28there really are great rates on the F one fifty right now every day.
- 11:31And I've been hearing on the radio in the seventy two months and even that
- 11:35rate's really low, but if you want zero you can you can get that.
- 11:39And I was like, that's that's pretty awesome. It is. And
- 11:41we've got lots of really hot turn and stuff that we haven't had inventory on
- 11:46recently, like Super Duty, Bronco, you know, even the Ford Lightning
- 11:50and Mocky. We also have a cool opportunity now Ford's got some extra six
- 11:56point eight Leader engines for the Super Duty that they need to build, and
- 12:01so we've got some ordering capacity there. These are, you know, maybe
- 12:03not the people's favorite engine in the Super Duty, but it's a great workhorse
- 12:07engine. It can be something that's easy to get. If you're looking for
- 12:11a super Duty, they've been difficult to get over the last several years,
- 12:15and here's a chance to get to order one. They're taking orders now for
- 12:18May production, and so we can actually get your super Duty built pretty quick
- 12:22here right now. And yeah, no, that's pretty cool. It's been
- 12:28some of them have taken a long time. We've seen orders take up to
- 12:31a year recently, and you know, on specific things where you're trying to
- 12:35get through the commodity retint restraints. We still see supply chain issues and the
- 12:41car business and chips and all kinds of things. So it's it's interesting how
- 12:46we're still facing that even a couple of years later. So tell us about
- 12:52the show this year. I know it all builds up to Saturday night.
- 12:56How many kids are showing? Do you have any idea there's usually eighty ish
- 13:03that make the sale. I do know when we were talking last night,
- 13:09there's seventy three swine exhibitors this morning, and my old memory can't remember,
- 13:18but it's right, there's totally there's probably one hundred and fifty and sixty kids.
- 13:26Ye show the next two days swine sheep goat cattle broilers or rabbits.
- 13:35There's going to be you know, a lot of kids showing over the the
- 13:37course of started at nine this morning and they'll go all the way until I
- 13:41don't know, it'll be seven or later tomorrow evening. So right and Saturday,
- 13:48there's a great barbecue dinner for the buyers beforehand, and then it opens
- 13:52to the public, so you can go out and have dinner and walk through
- 13:56the barns and then watch the big sale. Yeah, I believe the dinner
- 14:00we'll start at six o'clock and I think the or five thirty or six somewhere
- 14:05along and there, and then the sale will kick off I believe at seven,
- 14:07so and we'll get them run through and again you would have the opportunity
- 14:13after the dinner to kind of walk through the barns and and the kids that
- 14:20our grand they will have their animals and you know where you can see them
- 14:22at their side near the arena, and so you get to talk to them
- 14:26and see their animals and talk to them about their their project throughout the year.
- 14:30As Jac's kind of discussed her. So it's always a really great opportunity.
- 14:35Like I said, I if you haven't ever been to a show,
- 14:37or been to a sale again. We just encourage you to come out because
- 14:41I think once you do, you'll kind of be really hooked and excited that
- 14:46we have this opportunity for our use. Well, it's such a fabric of
- 14:50our community, and you know, it's part of our you know, the
- 14:52whole lifestyle we have around here. I mean, I think that's that's how
- 14:56we live. And there's a lot of people working there agriculture and live out
- 15:01here in rural America and it's part of our community and really important that the
- 15:09leadership stuff that you learn and all that accountability or responsibility you have. And
- 15:15I know you're going off o su that's going to be a You're going to
- 15:18use that a lot, I expect. And did you have big any plans
- 15:22after that or goals? What do you think? And hopefully just giving back
- 15:28to the ag world because I hope to with my degree of pharmaceutical kind of
- 15:35run with it on the animal side of things, and so hopefully I can
- 15:37give back and the medicine side of it. And other than that, I'll
- 15:43probably just try to have my own herd and keep doing what my family has
- 15:48been doing my whole life. Yeah, is it a multi generational family.
- 15:52Well, I've venture in Agrica. I got my first cow when I was
- 15:56about one and a half, so we've been for a while and I think
- 16:02my brother and I will keep it going. So awesome, that's a great,
- 16:06great story. That's uh so you know when you're doing it with your
- 16:12brother and family that it is a big family thing, right. It can't
- 16:17just do it on your own, right. My brother, we would always
- 16:22be a team effort to get everything, everything done every day and my dad
- 16:25would go check pastures and when he got back he would come in and me
- 16:27and my brother and have everything cleaned up and what do we need to do
- 16:30to change and to get everything on point. And my mom will me and
- 16:36her will be in the barn before we go to school and work in the
- 16:37mornings getting everything done. And it really is a team effort. And then
- 16:42as you build up to the show, there's a lot of preparation that goes
- 16:47on. And when you're going to show three animal, yes you've got three
- 16:49times the work. I was home and this includes everything from not just caring
- 16:53for your animal, cleaning, prepping it, getting it, you know,
- 16:57prepared to actually and go in the barn and look really good. But right,
- 17:03what's involved in all that, Well, you'll have your daily feeding,
- 17:07which is two times a day. Each calf is different, so no cafe
- 17:10eats the same, so it's all specialized. And then we rent our heifers
- 17:14every day, rents blow them. When it gets closer to the show,
- 17:17we'll clip them and every day we'll work on like setting up so they know
- 17:22what they're doing in the ring. And it takes a lot, it's a
- 17:26lot of hours, but I wouldn't trade it for a while. That's awesome.
- 17:30So they really get a shower every day, Yeah, they're kind of
- 17:34spoiled. And clipping the clipping them every day, not every day, we'll
- 17:38do that when it gets closer. Yeah, awesome. Well it's a there's
- 17:44so much to learn in that, and you know I had I didn't do
- 17:47that, my father did that. I found other ways to learn that same
- 17:51type of stuff. And you know, my children have gone on and they've
- 17:53done it through soccer and and that kind of organization and that's but it's so
- 17:57important I think that people find something like that that they care about. And
- 18:02obviously it's led to your life goals so far, and these opportunities you're going
- 18:06to have over the next few years. And I guess it's really I guess
- 18:10you'd say all been worth it. After all that works until you've got your
- 18:12first colity a year and a half. That's a that's pretty young. Y.
- 18:18Well, congratulations on all that. Thank you, and to you too
- 18:22travel on all the sport. And I know you have a lot of great
- 18:25sponsors out there, and so if you want to mention some of them,
- 18:27that'd be fine. I do and that certainly, Uh, you know,
- 18:32we appreciate all the Dunge just does because you guys are a big supporter every
- 18:36year. But it takes everybody, you know, and we do our scholarships.
- 18:38I can't go in and buy all the champions and and and we have,
- 18:42you know, several banks which I'm involved in the banking industry. We
- 18:45have several other auto dealers and equipment dealers and feed vendors that come out.
- 18:51And we were talking about it last night at the meeting. I think the
- 18:55committee has been a little bit worried, maybe that it will be down because
- 18:59of the economy and some other things. But I know most of everybody that
- 19:03comes out at least are are are more prevalent again buyers, and so I've
- 19:08taken off team to reach out to about twelve of them, and you know,
- 19:11based on what everybody's saying they've budgeted, you know, for the show
- 19:15this year, I think we'll be right on right on track at that hopefully
- 19:18one hundred and thirty forty thousand that can be given back to these youths for
- 19:22their and that doesn't count the add ons, you know, So that's just
- 19:26what should be going into the actual premium sale that the youth will have to
- 19:33recoup the money from their project, like JC if they're going on to college
- 19:36or have money to maybe you know, recoup and then and then buy their
- 19:40next project. And an add on is just where you fill out a piece
- 19:44of paper and you say, I want to give you know, twenty five
- 19:47dollars to all these contestants. There'll be a list, you know, if
- 19:49you come out to the to the sale, there'll be a show list of
- 19:53who is sailing that night, and then there will also be a list of
- 19:56all the exhibitors that because not everybody unfortunately can make the sale, so the
- 20:02exhibitors that don't, they will also be on there. So it gives you
- 20:03an opportunity to say, you know, twenty five dollars for John Doe and
- 20:08ten dollars for Sally, and then you would turn that in and then we
- 20:12as w C JLIS will bill you or you could pay that nine either way,
- 20:17and that way that money. Once we collect all the funds, then
- 20:18we'll make sure JC gets the money that from the sale or add on and
- 20:23we'll do that with every exhibitor and sale order member and so that way they
- 20:30can get their money in and continue on in their show life, or in
- 20:37Jac's recoup some of her money so that she can go into college and do
- 20:41big things and come back and still keep our AGC community here strong. Yeah,
- 20:45we hope you do. That'll be great opportunity this weekend and hopefully all
- 20:52everybody does come out and see the show. If you haven't been to something
- 20:55like this, it's something that you definitely want to want to see if you're
- 20:57new to the area. It's really the fabric of our community. And you'll
- 21:03see over one hundred kids that have really worked really hard to this point and
- 21:07ready to do this really the show of a lifetime for them sometimes. So
- 21:14here's another interesting thing going on to the dealership you may not have heard about,
- 21:18but we're doing mobile service now and we send a one of our text
- 21:21went out the other day to a customer's ranch and he had to recall.
- 21:26He left the keys there in the vehicle. We updated the vehicle there in
- 21:30his pasture basically, and he never had to come into the dealership. Pretty
- 21:36cool, Huh can you get in? I'm assuming you guys probably do the
- 21:40same with the world changes, Like, yeah, we do pick up and
- 21:42delivery on the world changes, right, we haven't gotten to the point where
- 21:45some dealers have gotten these big vans where they can actually go to do that.
- 21:49I'm a little nervous about changing oil in your driveway. I'm a little
- 21:52bit changing current society. Environmental issues are a little bit higher. But when
- 22:00you think about it, a lot of our recalls now are they're really they're
- 22:03more like software updates and for your programmings and so we can want so we
- 22:07can go that on site. We can actually have a little escape. We've
- 22:11turned into a mobile service vehicle and we can take the equipment out to you
- 22:15and do the update. We've used it to help people with you know,
- 22:18the things we always did like lockouts and flat tires and stuff like that.
- 22:23But that's a new offering. We've got pick up and delivery and remote service
- 22:26and if you're interested in that, call the dealership for details. You know,
- 22:30accept in emergencies. A lot of times we need to plan for that,
- 22:33of course, so schedule it out is better, but we want to
- 22:37do more and more of those. And we've also instituted a new tool that
- 22:41our team has while we're doing this, where they've got a platform where they
- 22:47can stay in touch with you throughout the service, update you on the status
- 22:49of the vehicle electronically through text, and even send you pictures of some maybe
- 22:56a needed repair. You can pay for it back through your phone if you
- 22:59want, and so with pick up and delivery, you know you can have
- 23:02it paid for it. We drop off your car at work or at the
- 23:04bank. It's it's pretty simple and a great new customer service feature. We've
- 23:10got a great service because I know and he never feel like you got enough
- 23:15time in the day, and it seems like it's shorter and shorter. I
- 23:17don't know how that is. You know, my parents just telling me when
- 23:18I was a kid. You know, don't get in a hurry because time
- 23:22flies and you're like, didn't fly and then it seems like that I like
- 23:26where today goes. So that's a great searcher perspective on that it goes by
- 23:30fast. You just wait, thank thank it goes fast now. But yeah,
- 23:38it does keep going faster, and we've got other great stuff coming up.
- 23:42I know tomorrow is International Women's Day. That's a that's a big deal.
- 23:47You know. I think we all obviously have important women in our lives,
- 23:51and they've become a really important part of my business. I don't know
- 23:55about in banking so much, but the you know, at the car dealership
- 23:59world, we couldn't exist without our women. I think our salesforce now is
- 24:03about sixty seventy percent women. It's a majority of the sales team. And
- 24:08you know, it's just been great for our culture to have them become part
- 24:11of the team, and it's a great thing. So we'll be honoring our
- 24:15ladies tomorrow. We've been a lot of fun. I agree with you there.
- 24:21I have an assistant, Stacy Garrett, and if it wasn't for her,
- 24:25I wouldn't get anything done. He's amazing, and we have actually,
- 24:30there's just a lot of people that daily just put in a lot of really
- 24:33good work and make things the way they should and continue to help us grow.
- 24:37And I know at home, I have a boss that bath keeps the
- 24:41house rolling. And we've got three boys, so constantly going somewhere for sports
- 24:47or different activities. And you do it alone. Yeah, that's for sure.
- 24:51And all the great women our lives from my teachers and other mentors,
- 24:56it's been a great thing. And so we'll celebrate that tomorrow with everybody else.
- 25:00I know Toyota is trying to get behind that, so you know,
- 25:03look for some Toyota uh that's going on all across Toyota dealerships around. Then.
- 25:07Those new trucks are well, they look beefed up. Now have you
- 25:14seen the new Tacoma that the team went on the ride and drive thing this
- 25:17week? They got to see all the trim levels and drive them around and
- 25:21the new trail hunter thing and it'll be awesome. And we just heard we're
- 25:25going to get start getting hybrids allocated to us, which is the first hybrid
- 25:29in the Tacoma engine, which will be really cool. Uh. In late
- 25:33April, about the same time we get our first land cruiser allocation, which
- 25:37is a return of the land Cruiser for Toota. The new model is it?
- 25:44Is it similar? It's going to be different. It's more of a
- 25:47back to the beginning of a cruiser. It's more like a Bronco Wrangler type
- 25:51of vehicle. And it's gonna it's really an off road vehicle meant to be
- 25:55tough and rough and outdoors and and it looks really cool any way, less
- 26:00expensive than the last land Cruise. Yeah, and what Sequia is kind of
- 26:04taking that top suv place. It's been super we haven't had a Sequahia stay
- 26:11more than a couple hours on the lot since they redesigned it. It's pretty
- 26:15amazing. But that's a great vehicle too. But we're super excited to get
- 26:19some more of those new Tacomas. We've just had one so far and it
- 26:22sold pretty quickly and there were people all coming out taking pictures of it and
- 26:27everything. So come check that out and be sure to get out this week
- 26:30into the Washington County Junior Livestock Show and Dewey out at the fairgrounds and come
- 26:36see us out at the dealership. We'll be there all day or online at
- 26:41donejus choice dot com. All right, folks, you've been watching and listening
