- 0:02All here, where each thing seems its lonely self, are figures of
- 0:07the soul, transcendent one. Only by him they are.
- 0:12His breath is their life. An unseen presence moulds the
- 0:17oblivious clay. A playmate in the mighty
- 0:20Mother's game, One came upon the dubious whirling globe to hide
- 0:25from her pursuit in force and form a secret spirit in the
- 0:30inconscient sleep. A shapeless energy, a voiceless
- 0:36word. He was here before the elements
- 0:39could emerge, before there was light of mind or life could
- 0:43breathe. Accomplice of her cosmic huge
- 0:47pretence. His semblances, He turns to real
- 0:52shapes and makes a symbol equal with the truth.
- 0:57He gives to his timeless thoughts a form and time.
- 1:02He is the substance, he the self of things.
- 1:05She is forged from him, her works of skill and might.
- 1:09She wraps him in the magic of her moods and makes of his
- 1:13myriad truths her countless dreams.
- 1:17The Master of Being has come down to her, an immortal child,
- 1:21born in the fugitive years in objects wrought in the persons
- 1:26she conceives. Dreaming, she chases her idea of
- 1:31him, and catches here a look and there a jest.
- 1:36Ever he repeats in them his ceaseless births.
- 1:41He is the Maker in the world He made.
- 1:44He is the vision, and He is the Seer.
- 1:47He is himself the actor and the ACT.
- 1:50He is himself the knower and the known.
- 1:54He is himself, the dreamer and the dream.
- 1:59There are two who are one and play in many worlds in knowledge
- 2:04and ignorance. They have spoken and met, and
- 2:07light and darkness are their eyes.
- 2:09Interchange. Our pleasure and pain are there.
- 2:12Wrestle and embrace our deeds. Our hopes are intimate to their
- 2:17tale. They are married secretly in our
- 2:20thought and life. The universe is an endless
- 2:25masquerade, for nothing here is utterly what it seems.
- 2:30It is a dream fact, vision of a truth which but for the dream
- 2:35would not be wholly true. A phenomenon stands out
- 2:40significant against dim backgrounds of eternity.
- 2:44We accept its face and pass by all it means.
- 2:49A part is seen. We take it for the whole.
- 2:54Thus have they made their play with us for roles, author and
- 2:58actor with himself as seen he moves there as the soul, as
- 3:03nature. She here on the earth where we
- 3:07must fill our parts, We know not how shall run the drama's
- 3:12course. Our uttered sentences veil in
- 3:16their thought. Her mighty plan she holds back
- 3:19from our sight. She has concealed her glory and
- 3:23her bliss, and disguised the love and wisdom in her heart.
- 3:28Of all the marvel and beauty that are hers only a darkened
- 3:33little we can feel. He too wears a diminished
- 3:37Godhead. Here He has forsaken His
- 3:40omnipotence, His calm He has foregone and Infinity.
- 3:46He knows her only. He has forgotten Himself to her.
- 3:52He abandons all to make her great.
- 3:55He hopes in her to find himself anew Incarnate, wedding his
- 4:00infinity's peace to her creative passions, ecstasy although
- 4:06possessor of the earth and heavens, He leaves to her the
- 4:10cosmic management and watches all the witness of her scene, a
- 4:16supernumerary on her stage. He speaks no words or hides
- 4:21behind the wings. He takes birth in her world,
- 4:25waits on her will, divines her enigmatic gestures, sense the
- 4:31fluctuating chance turns of her mood, works out her meanings.
- 4:36She seems not to know and serves her secret purpose in long time.
- 4:43As one too great for him, he worships her.
- 4:46He adores her. As his Regent of desire, he
- 4:50yields to her. As the mover of his will, he
- 4:53burns the incense of his nights and days, offering his life a
- 4:58splendor of sacrifice, a rapt solicitor for her love and
- 5:04grace. His bliss in her to him is his
- 5:07whole world. He grows through her in all his
- 5:11being's powers. He reads by her God's hidden aim
- 5:15in things, or a courtier in her countless retinue, content to be
- 5:22with her and feel her near. He makes the most of the little
- 5:27that she gives, and all she does drapes with his own delight.
- 5:32A glance can make his whole day wonderful.
- 5:36A word from her lips with happiness wings the hours he
- 5:40leans on her for all he does and is.
- 5:43He builds on her largeses his proud fortunate days and trails
- 5:48his Peacock plumaged joy of life and sons in the glory of her
- 5:54passing smile in 1000 ways he serves her royal needs.
- 6:00He makes the hours pivot around her will, makes all reflect her
- 6:05whims. All is their play.
- 6:08This whole wide world is only he and she.
