- 0:01At some time or another, every human being has the experience
- 0:06of having an opinion thought or idea.
- 0:09Contradicted, the usual reaction is to defend one's position
- 0:15whether or not it is. Well, founded and arguments.
- 0:19Tend to ensue, it is rare. That one side of the argument is
- 0:25entirely right and the other side is entirely wrong. when
- 0:29looked at from a neutral perspective, Generally, there's
- 0:34something that can be appreciated or understood from
- 0:37any opposing or differing viewpoints yet.
- 0:41We tend to be so busy defending our own view that we fail to
- 0:45appreciate the positive aspects of other views.
- 0:51SRI, aurobindo reminds us in the Life.
- 0:53Divine that the apparent contradictions can be reconciled
- 0:57into a higher synthesis. The mother suggest, the way to
- 1:02accomplish this and interpersonal relationships.
- 1:05And thereby also widen our own way of seeing and acting first,
- 1:11there must be a status of quiet receptivity in the mind instead
- 1:16of the naturally reactive state that we jump into when
- 1:19challenged in our view. We must be prepared to
- 1:23appreciate that. There is at least some basis in
- 1:26the other party's mind to set forth their view of things.
- 1:31Then we need to develop a mechanism for entering into that
- 1:34standpoint and relating the two views together.
- 1:39The mother writes, quote, for instance you are with someone.
- 1:45This person tells you something, you tell him the contrary as it
- 1:49usually happens, simply through a spirit of contradiction and
- 1:54You Begin arguing naturally you will never come to any point
- 1:58except to quarrel if you are ill-natured.
- 2:02But instead of doing that instead of remaining in your own
- 2:05ideas or your own words, if you tell yourself, wait a little,
- 2:11I'm going to try and see why he said that to me.
- 2:14Yes, why did he tell me that? And you concentrate, why why?
- 2:20Why you stand there? Just like that trying the other
- 2:26person continues speaking designee and is very happy to
- 2:30for you. Don't contradict Any longer you
- 2:33talked profusely and is sure he has convinced you.
- 2:38Then you concentrate more and more on what he is saying.
- 2:42And with the feeling that gradually through his words, you
- 2:46are entering his mind when you enter his head.
- 2:49Suddenly you understand why he is speaking to you.
- 2:52Thus and then if you have a fairly Swift intelligence and
- 2:58put what you have, just come to understand alongside what you
- 3:01had known. On before you have the two ways
- 3:05together and so can find the truth reconciling both.
- 3:09And here you have truly made progress, and this is the best
- 3:14way of widening on stop. If you are, beginning an
- 3:19argument, keep quiet immediately instantaneously, you must be
- 3:24silent, say nothing at all, and then try to see the thing as the
- 3:29other person sees it that won't make, you forget your own way of
- 3:33seeing it, not at all, but you will be able to put both of them
- 3:38together and you will have truly made progress.
- 3:43A real progress, end quote. reference SRI aurobindo and the
