- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Healing with Purpose Podcast, a place where we discuss how healing ourselves helps us find our purpose.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Kenya Marie.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode of Healing with Purpose.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Today I'm really excited to talk about this because I hear day in and day out from people all over clients, my family members, my friends, strangers on the internet.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: They all say the same thing.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: I can't start my fitness journey because I'm too busy.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I haven't started working on my business because I'm really overworked.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: There's no way I can make time to do my hobbies because I just don't have that extra time.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Like we all make these excuses, really.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But the truth is, is your excuses are completely valid.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: You probably don't have a lot of time.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: You probably do feel super overworked, and probably you do feel super overwhelmed.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So you're right.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: And because you're right, you are holding yourself back from actually doing the things that you know you want to do.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So maybe you want to work on your body, you know, maybe you want to start a business, maybe you want to write a book or whatever, but you're not doing it because we feel overworked, we feel overwhelmed, and we feel like we don't have any time.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So today I'm gonna break down exactly the system I use to ensure that I keep my mind organized.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: If I want to become a person of great success, and I define success as healthy, happy, thriving.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: So if I want to be a person of great success and I need to make sure that I do everything I can to not get to that point of complete overwhelm, to not get to that point where I feel like I have no time.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So I want to run down exactly what I do during busy periods of my life.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: So this week is a perfect example of feeling incredibly busy with a lot of really important tasks.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I have tons of meetings with my business clients, my fitness clients, I have my healing with purpose course, which launches next Monday.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: If you are listening to this on the day it's released, that's exactly one week from today.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: We launched Healing with Purpose, a 10-week course designed to walk you through the stages of healing.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So you ultimately can find your purpose in life.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And there's been nothing else in my life that I have put so much time and attention into than this Healing with Purpose course.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And so there's a lot that goes into it.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And being one week out from our launch date, our start date, is also bringing a lot of excitement, but also a ton of responsibility and things I need to make sure are done so that the launch goes as smoothly as possible.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So I have my launch date coming up.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I am leaving for Vegas this weekend.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And when I come back from Vegas, I have a baby shower that very same day.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And then I leave for Hawaii three days later.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So I just have a lot going on.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: And it's just one of those times in my life where I'm incredibly busy, right?
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: So if this was four years ago, I would pull my hair out.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I would be incredibly anxious.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: It would lead to me having anxiety attacks because I feel like I'm not getting anything done, right?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: At this time, I was a social worker, right?
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So I could even apply this to when I was working in nine to five, and I had lots of cases that I needed to work on.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: I had lots of homes that I needed to investigate and also a lot of reports that I needed to, you know, make sure we're getting done.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I could even push this back even more when I was in graduate school and I had school that I need to make sure I was, you know, managing and studying and papers.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I had my internship that I need to make sure I was showing up for.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I have my family life, right?
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: So it doesn't matter what area of your life you're in.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what season of your life you're in.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: We're always going to feel busy.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: We're always going to have a lot going on.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: So this is what I'm doing this week and how I'm going to ensure that I keep my mind organized.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: That's all it comes down to.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: It's not about not having enough time.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It's not about having too many responsibilities.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It's about organizing our mind so that we can get the things that we want to get done done.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: So this is what I did today.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: It is Sunday, and I usually like to go shopping on Sunday.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: It's the one day a week that I do not work.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Um, so typically, so I like to go shopping with my husband.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I like to go out to eat.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we'll go to brunch, sometimes we'll, you know, do a Duffy ride on the ocean, right?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: It's a really like chill, lax day, and it works for me most weeks.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: It's exactly what I need most weeks.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: But this week is different.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So I knew because this week is different, I need to do something different than what I typically do.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: If I were to have spent today chilling on the beach or going to brunch or just really relaxing, shopping, you know, all the things that I love to do and do most Sundays.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: If I were to have done that today, then the rest of my week would have felt like a freaking headache.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I probably would have missed my workouts because I was like, oh, I need sleep or I have too much work to do, right?
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: I would have been feeling super overwhelmed and rushed during my work.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Like I just can't get everything done.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: It would have caused me a ton of stress, right?
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Throughout the week.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I probably would have skipped out on healthy eating because I didn't, you know, if I'm not prepared and I'm just like chilling all day Sunday and I'm not prepared, then I probably would have either A, not eaten anything at all, or B, get, you know, get takeout as much as I can.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: So I know that because I have a busy week ahead, I need to do something different in order to be prepared for the week.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: So what did I do?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I started my day by waking up around 7:30.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Typically, Sundays I wake up around 8:30, but 7:30, it's still enough time for me to feel like I was sleeping in.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And my husband and I decided to stay in Saturday night so that we didn't feel super tired on Sunday morning.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: So I made sure that this whole entire weekend was preparing me for success.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: So we stayed in.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: We had an at-home date night, super cute.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: We actually, we actually went out to dinner, but we after dinner, we came home at like a decent hour.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: So we weren't staying out super late with friends like we do on other weekends, right?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: We made sure we, you know, had our cute date night um on Saturday night and then came home at a reasonable hour and and stayed inside.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: And so I waking up Sunday morning was fine.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: I felt refreshed.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I wasn't super tired.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So I woke up around 7:30 this morning.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And for the first hour and a half was just family time.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Me and my husband and my dog went on a walk in the morning like we do most every morning.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: We enjoyed our matcha.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Um, then later we made some coffee and then went to the jacuzzi.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: So we went to the jacuzzi while it's like, you know, nine in the morning, 8:30 in the morning.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: It felt really good.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: It's just us.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: So I had my time with my family in the morning.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: And then I was like, you know what?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: I need to make sure that I get some work done.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm finishing up a bunch of pieces for um healing with purpose course.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Typically, I would do this stuff on the weekday, but I know that this week is super busy.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: So, what could I do in advance to help offset the stress of work during the week?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: So I did about four-ish hours of work, I'd say.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Um I started working around 9 a.m.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And well, I started working around 9 a.m.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: and then I really finished up around three.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Um, but between my work, I was doing minor tasks in the home.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: So I did my laundry, I folded my laundry, I packed my suitcase for my trip this weekend and for my Hawaii trip the week after that.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: So I made sure that I'm just super prepared because these next few weeks for me, it's not just this week, it's the next few weeks are incredibly busy.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So I packed my bag for Vegas so that I wasn't stressing out on Thursday, the day before I left, like I typically would, right?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: So I packed my bag.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And so I would work, you do do an hour of working and then go do something around the house, clean up my, you know, bedroom, did like four loads of laundry, um, just little things, came back to work, and then kept doing that from nine to three.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: And then what I made sure to do was plan out exactly how I'm working out this week.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I know that I'm super busy.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And if I were to go into the week without any workout plan, I would 100% be setting myself up for failure.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: I would either not work out or I would work out but kind of half-ass it and not really get much in, right?
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: But more realistically, I probably would have skipped my workouts.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: This is what I would have done in the past.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: And so I said, no, you know what?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Moving my body is important to me.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: I want to be a healthy person.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: So I need to do the things that healthy people do.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: And that includes making sure I'm moving my body.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So what I did was plan out every single one of my workouts for the week ahead and what time I'm doing it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: So if you have a coach and if you're one of my clients, then yes, you have the luxury of seeing exactly what you are working out without having to put much thought into it.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: That's why we do that for our fitness clients.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: So we want to say, hey, let's make this as easy as possible.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: We're gonna plan out exactly what your workouts look like.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: But notice I did something extra.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I put the exact time that I'm working out.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So I know what time I'm working out every single day for the next week.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: And for me, what I did was book classes this week.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: If I were to to, if I were to have just wanted to go into the gym, right, and be like, okay, uh, today I'm gonna kind of figure out what I'm doing into the in the gym.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: I probably wouldn't get much out of my workout.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I want my workouts to be intentional.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So I don't want to even deal with not knowing what I'm doing.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: So for me, I booked some classes.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm taking a yoga class, I'm doing a lower body workout on Monday, I have a cycling class on Tuesday, breath work class on Wednesday, strength class on Thursday, and then a cycling class again or Friday.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And every single one of these classes has a set time.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: So I know what time I'm working out, and I made sure to book a time that was early in the morning.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: So that's the next thing that I do to prepare for a really busy week ahead and organize my mind.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: I am deciding to wake up around whatever time, but it'll likely be between five and five 45 every single day for this week.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Now, some of you might hear that and like, oh my gosh, that sounds terrible.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: I cannot wake up at 5 a.m.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: If something is important enough for you, you will do whatever you need to.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: I don't wake up at 5 a.m.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: every single day anymore.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I used to.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: There was definitely a period in my life, maybe a whole year or two, that I was waking up super early.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: But you know, now I like waking up around 6, 6:30-ish most days.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: But I know that because this week is very busy and I want to make sure that I'm organizing my mind in the best way I can, I'm going to do the different things that are going to help me for this week.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: So one of those things I need to do is wake up a little bit earlier than usual.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: So this week I'm waking up at five so that a lot of my classes are starting around 5:45 and like 9 a.m., depending on the day.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: So I'm waking up early.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: I've preset when I'm working out, what time I'm working out, and what exercises I'm doing.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: So that's out of the way.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: I'm no for certain check movement of my body is good.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I don't even need to think about it, stress about it, or worry about it.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: So it's not something that's going to make me feel overwhelmed.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Okay, what else could make me feel a little bit overwhelmed?
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Ooh, well, you know what?
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Food.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: If I don't have anything prepped or prepared, it's likely I'm either A, not going to eat, or B, probably get takeout every night.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: So what am I planning to do?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Well, lunch is my busiest time.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I am so go, go, go, go, go during the day that I need something already prepared, right?
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Everyone's schedule looks different.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Maybe your lunchtime is when you have the most amount of time, but your your breakfast is not, right?
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Maybe you have someone that you are someone that works at like six in the morning.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: So sitting and creating this like big breakfast just isn't plausible.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: So maybe you're someone that would do best with making a very quick breakfast or like overnight oats is usually what I give my clients who have very busy mornings, you know, overnight oats or a quick smoothie, something that's fast, right?
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: So depending on what your schedule looks like, um, you can figure out, you know, what meals you want to prep.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: But for me, my lunchtime is really busy.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: So I want to make sure that I have food prep.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So we prepped chicken, we have prepped vegetables, and I have a bag of lettuce.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I'll probably make some form of like protein salad andor like a protein shake, and maybe I'll have some rice.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I think I have some rice left over too, so I can make some rice, chicken, whatever, just throw it all together.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: So it's just a quick and easy lunch.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: My breakfast and my dinner, I'm not super worried about because I'm home and I have a little bit more time.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So I prepped my food in advance.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: What's another thing that I did?
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Well, I planned out exactly what I need to do for work each day of the week.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: So if you're a business owner or you're wanting to start a business or you work for yourself, or even if you don't work for yourself, but you work from home, I know a lot of us are working from home since quarantine.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: And one of the things that I hear often from those that work from home is, you know, like there's days where I'm like, oh my gosh, like it's nice having the freedom to kind of do what I want.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: But also there's days where I'm like, oh, I have so much to do and I feel like I didn't get anything done.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: And so what I like to do is I like to have a workflow.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: And my workflow looks pretty much the same most weeks.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Um, but there is some leniency to it.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: I am pretty flexible.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: But on weeks like this, weeks like this, you know, this coming week, there's no room for flexibility.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: So I want to know exactly what I'm doing and on what day.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: So my Monday, I have content creation.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: I know I need to, you know, film X video and record X podcast and do, you know, make ex posts, right?
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: So I know what my content creation day is going to look like.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: I know exactly what content I'm putting out on Monday or put uh creating on Monday.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Done, right?
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Tuesday program updates.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I know Tuesday I'm gonna update some of my clients' programming.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I onboarded a new coach, so I just hired on another new fitness coach.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: She is actually going to be announced today, if you are listening to this on um the release date.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Um, so we are releasing her today, or you know, announcing her today.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: So I need to get her set up, right?
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: So Tuesday is all about programming my fitness business and everything that needs to get done in there, right?
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: So I do this throughout the rest of my week.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: So I know exactly what to do.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: And mind you, I actually recommend this for all of the time.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, if you work for yourself or you're starting your own business or you're trying to grow your business or work on it or whatever, you know, I really recommend having this workflow where you know exactly what you're doing every single day.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: It's going to save so much time and so much energy and so much frustration and so much overwhelm.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: So um, so I made sure that my week is incredibly organized, both in my health journey and my business journey.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: And last but certainly not least, my well-being mental health.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: I made sure that I have my workouts in, right?
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: That's part of it.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: But mostly on busy weeks like this, I make sure that I have a time every single day, at least an hour to do something that makes me feel good.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: So that can look like anything.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: And that I actually don't plan.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: I don't specify exactly what I'm doing on each day.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: It's just a 60-minute block every single day of this week for me to do whatever feels good.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Most days that looks like me going to the beach because that is my happy place.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: My soul belongs on the beach.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And so most days that's like, okay, this is the hour that I'm just gonna go sit on the beach.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna walk along the beach and maybe I'll look, you know, watch the surfers or just walk, walk along the boardwalk, right?
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: It's whatever.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe this looks like just sitting on my phone and just scrolling Instagram or watching a YouTube or something, right?
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: It I doesn't, I don't know.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: It's whatever I ask my body I need that day, and then I honor it and I do it.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow, Monday, that looks like me going on a Duffy boat ride.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: My husband and I love Duffies.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: We go often and um it's basically a mini boat kind of that you're able to take out into the ocean.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: And so we, you know, do that.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: So that's what we're doing tomorrow.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be the time where I decompress.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: I'm not thinking about work, I'm not gonna be on my phone working, right?
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: That's the only thing I know.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I don't know what it's gonna look like.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: So the moral of the story here is when we are feeling overwhelmed, when we're feeling overworked, when we're feeling like we just don't have the time, ask yourself, what can I do to organize my mind?
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: What can I do to plan ahead?
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Because that saying is true as heck.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Fail to plan and you're planning to fail.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: So most weeks we can get by.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Most weeks we might not need to be so stringent on what we're doing and when and how and who we're with, and et cetera.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: But on the weeks that we're incredibly busy, we need to do what we can.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: I understand some of you listening to this might not have jobs where you can dictate exactly what you do at what time.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: I know that was my experience when I was a social worker, right?
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: You can get called out on a case at any time of the day and you need to go it, you you know, you need to go and investigate.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: So I know you some of you listening to this might be in real estate.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And so you don't know when you have, you know, a call coming in or when you have random obligations, right?
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I understand that.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: It's not about doing everything to a T as perfectly as you can, it's about preparing everything to a T as best as you can.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So if you are telling yourself that you haven't worked out because you just don't have the time, you haven't started your business because you're just so overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done with it with your business, right?
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: If you are holding yourself back from living your purpose because of an unorganized mind, then I hope that this podcast really hits home.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: I hope that it gives you some insight on some things you can do to prepare yourself for success.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Remember, if you want to be a certain version of yourself, you need to do the things that that person does.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself, what is it that I need to do in order to become the person I deserve and the person I desire to be?
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I hope you got some value from this.
