- 0:01Welcome to authentic living with Roxanne, a place where we have as conversations about
- 0:08things that really matter in our lives.
- 0:12And now here's your host, Roxanne Durgesh.
- 0:33Hi, everyone.
- 0:41It's Ross Sandra Hutch.
- 0:42Thanks so much for tuning in again.
- 0:44Today, I have a special guest, Jennifer, Jim Gymboree.
- 0:49I think I got it right this time.
- 0:51Jennifer is a a business coach and has a lot of background in the field of coaching.
- 0:56So she's gonna talk to us today just a lot about, the coaching world and, out there,
- 1:03there's a lot of different people doing coach and I I think I I really appreciate what,
- 1:08Jennifer's done out there in the world, in the field of coaching.
- 1:12So I invited her to come out on today to speak a little bit more about that.
- 1:16So I'm just gonna read a little bit about, Jennifer's background.
- 1:19She's an entrepreneur and international best selling co author of the Dream Bowl, the IDREU
- 1:25series.
- 1:26She's a world class coach and business consultant.
- 1:29She recognizes an authority in the psychology of performance, negotiations, and
- 1:34organizational turnaround.
- 1:36She has served as an advisor on thousands of individual and organizations.
- 1:41She served a lot of individuals and organizations are around the world for almost
- 1:4520 years.
- 1:46A long time.
- 1:47You've been, kicking around for a long time in the field of coaching.
- 1:50So you probably started at a time when it it wasn't as rampant as it is today.
- 1:56Would you say that, Jennifer?
- 1:58Yeah.
- 1:58Absolutely.
- 1:59So starting in training and development and performance management when it wasn't really
- 2:04called coaching.
- 2:05Right?
- 2:05Okay.
- 2:06Formerly got into coaching when I was in a role that required coaching.
- 2:10Where no one knew what that meant.
- 2:13So, for example, I was a branch manager at the Bank of Montreal and, you know, it was kind of
- 2:17in our purview to coach our team.
- 2:20It's like, yes.
- 2:20I wanna do that.
- 2:22How do I do that?
- 2:23So that's when I chose to go out and get my own designation for a certified professional coach
- 2:28because I wanted to do service to what it was that we were looking to do to support them in
- 2:34their performance.
- 2:35So tell me
- 2:36a little bit about your background.
- 2:38Like you said, you said, sounds like you were a bit in banking and then kind of your roles kind
- 2:41of landed to naturally managing people.
- 2:45Just, based on some of those roles.
- 2:47So how did you so coaching probably was a natural step for you then.
- 2:52Because you haven't really been doing it to some degree in your role.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56So my kind of core belief system, and it came to a little bit more clarity around the when I
- 3:02took the training is I believe people are creative, capable wise, and good.
- 3:05Like, people want to do good.
- 3:07They want to achieve what it is they've set out And so in the process of of learning coaching,
- 3:14it supported me to, kind of gain clarity around how do I create that coaching environment?
- 3:20And and, in what way can I hold the pause, right, the power of the pause in in our work is
- 3:26really important and to develop the skills required like discovery questioning and active
- 3:33versus contextual listening to really hear what behind the words of of what somebody's saying
- 3:38and holding up that mirror and doing some pared back work with people?
- 3:43So all of those things as I was learning, because I I'll never stop learning.
- 3:47I'm I'm thirteen degrees in certificates in.
- 3:49I love it.
- 3:52So, you know, in all with the learning, you just pick up new tools that support the process
- 3:57of creating that environment for people.
- 3:59So tell me, so you work in business coaching.
- 4:03Is it predominantly business coaching?
- 4:04Do you do life coaching or different types of coaching, or is it pretty much business
- 4:09coaching?
- 4:09It's business coaching, and we do, implement strategies from change management as well as
- 4:14the science of well-being.
- 4:16For example, if somebody does need to increase their positive emotions, I'm gonna share
- 4:20practices and support them to do that.
- 4:22But if they're look looking for a life coach or counselor, then I'm referring that to to
- 4:27somebody who that's their specialty.
- 4:29Right.
- 4:29Right.
- 4:30So generally, how do people come to you?
- 4:33Like, let's say I'm sure I know on, my show, I have a lot of entrepreneurs and, sometimes C
- 4:40level, individual C suite or just middle managers.
- 4:44So how would someone kind of, get to someone like you generally?
- 4:48One of my top, client attracting strategies is definitely using LinkedIn for business growth.
- 4:53I've had a very strong presence there for quite some time, and I actually teach a course on on
- 4:58the importance of leveraging the platform properly.
- 5:02Also, I have a law office in Toronto that is an employment law office.
- 5:06And so they have C suite individuals who are in transition.
- 5:09I'm not sure what is the next step for me.
- 5:12A lot of them you know, they're ready for a pause.
- 5:15A lot of them, they're ready to take on an even bigger rule.
- 5:18A lot, they're just not sure, you know, what should be next for me.
- 5:21And some are, okay, I'm gonna take this expertise and I'm gonna do something for me so
- 5:25they might be starting a business.
- 5:27So they prefer individual to me for a session.
- 5:30And then once we've had that first session where we go through their extended disc, we
- 5:34learn a little bit about them, and what their needs are, there's an opportunity for them to
- 5:38continue working with me.
- 5:40Okay.
- 5:40Great.
- 5:41The other the other source is, there's a global platform now called Coachella that partners
- 5:47coaches with people from around the world, and they picked 20 coaches, and and I'm one of
- 5:53them.
- 5:53So Oh, wow.
- 5:54Wow.
- 5:54Individuals to me that way.
- 5:56So it's really through a consistent approach online as well as, you know, strategic
- 6:02partnerships and and, you know, putting yourself in in the right spot?
- 6:07So tell me if if someone's and I'm sure a lot of people are different stages of their
- 6:12business.
- 6:13Right?
- 6:14So let's say you're starting off, you know, you have the, you know, the core certain basic
- 6:18things.
- 6:19Right?
- 6:19You got the you got the business card.
- 6:21You got the site.
- 6:22You kinda know what your service is.
- 6:24You know, you're maybe kinda making a bit of money.
- 6:27Maybe you're just starting to kind of maybe make a bit more than you're spending.
- 6:32What's what's the benefit of having a coach like you work with someone like that?
- 6:38A 100%.
- 6:38So complacency and comfort zones are not a good thing.
- 6:44Okay.
- 6:44So we're going to be
- 6:46productive and profitable, then we need to take certain actions.
- 6:49We need to have a business plan that has inspired actions that you take every week.
- 6:54You need to know what is your scorecard.
- 6:56So how many of those things should you be doing, and you have to have a cadence of
- 7:01accountability.
- 7:02Anyone who has achieved anything really, really big, has worked with coaches, right?
- 7:08So we've got Bill Katz.
- 7:09We've got Oprah Winfrey.
- 7:10We've got all kinds of, you know, people that have achieved things that are bigger than what
- 7:15others think possible.
- 7:17Partner with individuals who will say.
- 7:19What did you do last week?
- 7:21What are you doing now?
- 7:22And what's next?
- 7:24Right.
- 7:24And of course, you know, to keep on track, like, I know I have I have a coach and I've
- 7:30always had, you know, even, even I was so I was in corporate consulting for, like, 16 years.
- 7:36And, I was looking to make a shift.
- 7:39So, of course, I, you know, form a background of psychotherapy, but I wanted to get into the
- 7:43corporate sector.
- 7:44I was in a small firm out in St.
- 7:46Catherine's where I was.
- 7:48And I knew I thought, how?
- 7:50Okay.
- 7:50I've got the education.
- 7:51I've got the background.
- 7:53I've got experience in a small arena, but I wanna get into the bigger arena, and I thought
- 7:58how in the world am I gonna do that?
- 8:00And, at that point, I I was attending, a wellness, community up in Toronto, representing
- 8:08my small company, and I saw this business coach at that time.
- 8:12And at that time, it was not it's not cheap.
- 8:15And, but everything that he said made so much sense.
- 8:20Right?
- 8:20So I'm like, okay.
- 8:21I have all these scales.
- 8:23I'm kinda like it's all coming at me all at once.
- 8:25I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna shift over.
- 8:27How am I gonna get bigger companies to look at?
- 8:29We take me seriously.
- 8:30You know, I'm just beginning with minimal And, so I meet I I bit the bulletin.
- 8:36I basically hired him.
- 8:38And within a month, Jennifer.
- 8:42I'm not I'm not, joking.
- 8:44I was getting offers from some of the biggest health of mothers firms because I had worked
- 8:48with this coach.
- 8:49You know, and sometimes I wanna talk about my feelings and all of that.
- 8:52And he'd be like, okay.
- 8:53Let's just stay focused.
- 8:54Let's do this.
- 8:55Let's do that.
- 8:55And I'm like, okay.
- 8:56But You know what I mean?
- 8:58So, of course, it was very task oriented, but that's what I needed at that time because it
- 9:01was not for a skill development.
- 9:03It was just, first of all, how do you get the confidence?
- 9:06How do you take the step?
- 9:07How do you take the transferable skills and then and make it over?
- 9:10And I I remember I was in actually, I was in Trinidad.
- 9:13That's where I'm from.
- 9:15And I put out the, you know, the CVs.
- 9:17It was written in a way that could I could be approached online and and I have massive,
- 9:23feedback and I worked with him to negotiate.
- 9:27What I was told later was one of the highest entry level, packages considering where I was.
- 9:36So I, you know, I I so for me, and then I was like, woah.
- 9:39Okay.
- 9:40You know, on the one end you're looking at is this is a big investment.
- 9:43And not that I couldn't afford it, but it only took me.
- 9:46I I think I used his service all said and done it, for maybe 3 months.
- 9:51And then I had made that a huge step, you know, to, to kind of work with some of the biggest
- 9:57companies in Canada.
- 9:58A 100% and that's something I pride myself in in my work is not working, you know, beyond a
- 10:03year with someone.
- 10:04You know, I have clients that that are larger contracts that say, okay.
- 10:09Can we pause right now?
- 10:10Like, we are too busy to continue to put these like, can we pause?
- 10:14And then once we know we have we're kind of headed to it, we'll call you.
- 10:18Absolutely.
- 10:20Right?
- 10:20And I agree with you.
- 10:21It's I always have a coach.
- 10:23I have 3, you know, 3 sponsors, 2 mentors, those things are very, very important for our
- 10:29development and stretch our thinking.
- 10:31Right?
- 10:32Right.
- 10:33Because what we think we can do is very different than what we can do if we actually,
- 10:39you know, do the actions that are required to see the the result
- 10:43Yeah.
- 10:43Because I guess it's, you know, you're you can get in your own way.
- 10:47Right?
- 10:47100%.
- 10:47Right?
- 10:48Awesome.
- 10:48I work with a lot of peep performers who got there and then went, oh, why am I not doing the
- 10:54anymore at work for me to get there?
- 10:55And it's like, yeah.
- 10:56Okay.
- 10:57So let's go.
- 10:57You know?
- 10:58Right.
- 10:58Right.
- 10:59Now that you know, and one thing I'm sure you're you're like you said accountability.
- 11:03And I know like you, I do a lot of things.
- 11:07And, you know, try to keep structure and I have rituals and all that stuff, but I'm like
- 11:11anybody, you know, from all my other colleagues that I speak to, how did I get here today?
- 11:16Like, I started off here.
- 11:18I was supposed to be doing this.
- 11:20Then I got over here, and my goodness, it's lunchtime.
- 11:24You know, and then, you know, that repetitive step, but, of course, with an accountability
- 11:29partner, you kinda think, oh, geez, I have to report back on this.
- 11:33Yeah.
- 11:34I better figure out how I'm gonna get this done because I can't get online and say, oh, by the
- 11:37way, I didn't have time because then I'm gonna have to, like, deal with the fact that I didn't
- 11:41follow through, which is a big, big Now I don't have an accountability, element with my
- 11:47coaching at present, and I can tell you that I think it does impact me compared to when I did
- 11:52have that in the past.
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:53100%.
- 11:54So I'll give you an example of one of my clients, last week because we always talk on
- 11:58Fridays.
- 11:59So every week, I ask her to send a snapshot of her calendar.
- 12:02And then I, either wanna see a check or an x with regards to I did that activity.
- 12:08Right?
- 12:08And she was like, I'm I don't wanna send this to you.
- 12:13And then she said, and I made 25 calls before just so that I had something.
- 12:17I'm like, is just having that opportunity to report in and to get support because some of
- 12:22the activities are not easy.
- 12:24Like, being out here, on your own outside of that big corporate structure is very hard work.
- 12:30And it's quite a roller coaster that unless you're in it, isn't really understood.
- 12:35So to have somebody who really understands that struggle understands what you're saying when
- 12:40you say, but that is an easy work.
- 12:42I know, but it still needs to be done.
- 12:44So how can I support you to do it?
- 12:46Right.
- 12:47And I and then the busy work, right, or the distract actions.
- 12:50Like, you know what I mean?
- 12:51Like, and I know that people talk about banking days, and sometimes that's harder for me.
- 12:56Like, the days that I'm just completely working on a project, org and the things that can it's
- 13:02and I because I get muddled with that too because then clients will say, hey.
- 13:05Can I see you here?
- 13:06Can I can I see you here?
- 13:07And I don't block it effectively.
- 13:09I'm sure I could do it better, but like anybody else, like you're saying, unless I'm working
- 13:14with someone to create the structure to stick to it, it's so easy, you know, and maybe maybe
- 13:19it's easier for other people than me.
- 13:21But I I've always found that that that is a struggle.
- 13:24And then when you mix it too much.
- 13:25What up ends up happening, you end up getting tired.
- 13:28Yeah.
- 13:29And I don't think you're alone in that struggle at all.
- 13:31I think that there's a lot of people in that.
- 13:34Position where, okay, I had it in place.
- 13:36What happened?
- 13:37I'm on month 4 and, you know, for the 1st 2 or 3 months, it was coming.
- 13:41And then I just kind of you know, stopped the because time blocking, I cannot I I cannot
- 13:47stress enough the importance of you in your high energy times blocking out the activities
- 13:52that absolutely must happen.
- 13:52And we only have 2 to 3 productive hours a day.
- 13:58But most people try to do 10 hours worth of work, and, really, we don't have that if we
- 14:03wanna produce excellent work.
- 14:052 to 3 out.
- 14:06Okay.
- 14:06Hold on.
- 14:07Tell me more about that because no wonder then.
- 14:09So how how do you Okay.
- 14:13So through the the assessments you do do with people, are you gauging, their high points for
- 14:20energy so that they are able to to kind of target more strategically with their team.
- 14:26So I use extended disc.
- 14:27Right?
- 14:28That's the assessment that I use with people.
- 14:29And once we go through it and review, I ask some specific questions based
- 14:34on their motivators, those are based on their demotivators.
- 14:37And together, we decide, okay, these are actually this is the time when I'm best.
- 14:41Okay.
- 14:42So that's when those critical activities, once we determine what they are, need to go into
- 14:47your calendar, right?
- 14:48So it's based on a ton of research.
- 14:50I, I don't have all of the, the around the research articles I read a ton, you know, from
- 14:55Harvard or or entrepreneur inc or, the books like peak performance habits, those type of
- 15:00things, all of that research points towards the fact that our productivity is the 2 to 3 hour
- 15:06window a day.
- 15:07And, really, if you, you know, if if I think of my week and I'm sure with yours, if I think,
- 15:12okay, my keynote has to get done.
- 15:15Right?
- 15:16And if I'm low energy, I sit there and I'm like, you know, I do something and it it sounds
- 15:21horrible or I record it and I go, oh, this versus if I'm I've got energy.
- 15:26Yeah.
- 15:26Now I can bang it off and then I go, how how did that get done so quickly?
- 15:31And I actually think it's not bad even if it's maybe in in a a draft form, but you are so
- 15:38right, right, when you're high energy, you know, you go go go go go and then you hit you
- 15:42hit that, okay, I'm not feeling that it's taken me twice as long to do this or to read this or
- 15:48to regurgitate that.
- 15:50Yeah.
- 15:50And I think what you shared earlier is an important point around and what can I delegate,
- 15:55right?
- 15:55Cause we have to be really strong at using a priority matrix.
- 16:00So I'll give you an example.
- 16:01So I have a 4 quadrant priority matrix that I share with clients, and it, it helps you
- 16:06bucket.
- 16:06Okay.
- 16:07This is that.
- 16:07This is that.
- 16:08Right?
- 16:08So low effort, low impact.
- 16:12That should probably be delegated.
- 16:14Right.
- 16:14High effort, low impact.
- 16:16That should probably be delegated.
- 16:18So How can we be working with professionals who can support us to stay in our peak performance?
- 16:24Right?
- 16:24So is there things that I'm doing that are not going to move the business forward, that are
- 16:29not in my own genius, then why I might work with them.
- 16:30So partnering with Do you find
- 16:36people tied behind that?
- 16:39Do you find it?
- 16:40Sorry about that.
- 16:40Do you find that people
- 16:44Yes.
- 16:45Because it's comfortable work.
- 16:46So, for example, if I if I'm coaching a real estate agent, let me use that because yesterday
- 16:51was a roomful of them.
- 16:53If I'm coaching a real estate agent and I'm talking about those time walks and the things
- 16:58that they were meant to do.
- 16:59And they say, yeah, but I was on social and I did post and I did.
- 17:03And it's like, okay.
- 17:05So but yet you had 40 calls today.
- 17:07You have expired listings.
- 17:08You have etcetera, etcetera.
- 17:11Tell me what happened.
- 17:12Well, like, and it's a matter of comfort.
- 17:15So I was fooling and I was posting because that's easy work for me versus the tougher
- 17:22work, which is, hey, you know, just curious, how is everything going?
- 17:27What's even exciting with the family?
- 17:29Is there a move in the future?
- 17:32So again, the activities that give you the return of your on, the investment of your time
- 17:38are the ones that you be should be chunking off first.
- 17:41Exactly.
- 17:42Mhmm.
- 17:43And that understanding my, you know, I think my my pivotal times is I'm not a super morning
- 17:49person.
- 17:49I'm up, but that's not my pivotal time.
- 17:52You know, I work out and do stuff like that first thing in the morning because I to get
- 17:56that out of the way, but I'm more like an 11 to you know, to kind of person.
- 18:01That's kind of where I get my maximum energy.
- 18:04And then after that, I drop off.
- 18:06What what's your what's your What's your, pit peak times for your day?
- 18:12I'm probably about 2 to 5.
- 18:142 to 5.
- 18:16If, if I do have a a project to work on, I'm definitely not, like, an early, early morning
- 18:22person.
- 18:23You know, once the date is kind of calmed and done, then it's okay.
- 18:27I can give an hour or 2 more to this important project.
- 18:31Because,
- 18:31you
- 18:31know, it's okay.
- 18:32That's the other thing I think that people struggle with is giving themselves permission
- 18:37to not work under 12 hour days.
- 18:40Right, to balance out what they need in order to rejuvenate.
- 18:44You know, you're okay to go for a walk in the forest if that rejuvenates you.
- 18:49Because now you're able to bring a better quality of excellence to what it is you wanna
- 18:54do, but a lot of people just don't grant that permission to themselves.
- 18:58You know, there's a lot of people freaking out listening to you right now, but what is she
- 19:01talking about?
- 19:03I'm gonna stop in the middle of the day and go for a walk.
- 19:05I'm not gonna wanna come back to the I'll be like, oh, here we go.
- 19:09It's beautiful outside.
- 19:11And I'm gonna wanna do a lot of different things, but but so it's really about kind of
- 19:16deciding in your day.
- 19:18Mhmm.
- 19:18So if there's those that if you work 5 days or if you take 1 day off, I know a lot of people
- 19:23block days where they might say take a Monday and a Friday off and work 3 solid days in
- 19:28between or whatever.
- 19:31So you're just suggesting prioritize what's gonna make you build a business.
- 19:36The most critical next step.
- 19:38Focus that time on that.
- 19:41Obviously, you have to keep your energy up.
- 19:42But so and again, you must talk a lot of then about because you and I were chitchatting just
- 19:47before we got on the line.
- 19:48I talked a little bit about, you know, kind of sometimes getting tired because you're juggling
- 19:53so much.
- 19:53So I'm so sure a lot of the people you're working with talk about that.
- 19:57Do you talk to them about overall kind of strategies for life because people are judging.
- 20:02Well, you I know you have a family.
- 20:04I have a family.
- 20:06Businesses that, you know, a lot of us are working from home.
- 20:09You know, you're kind of closing doors because you know that you can't get to that.
- 20:14Those types of things.
- 20:15So do you talk to people about overall, how to take care of themselves sometimes.
- 20:19Talk about the practices from the science of well-being.
- 20:22Right?
- 20:22So, we wanna have joy in the business.
- 20:25Otherwise, why are we doing the business.
- 20:28Right?
- 20:28It it's a lot more work than me going down the streets to get a new corporate role.
- 20:34So I need to have joy in the work that I'm doing.
- 20:37So in order to increase positive emotions, then I need to take the opportunity to actually
- 20:44create the practices.
- 20:44So, for example, if there is a struggle that comes up, you know, I call it the 92nd
- 20:50scorecard.
- 20:51I picked it up a long time ago when I used to do conferences for, Edgar Jones, an investment
- 20:56firm.
- 20:57There was a speaker who came in and he talked about this process of there's a challenge.
- 21:01So let's say there's something wrong with your website or a client situation.
- 21:07Well, instead of ruminating about that situation for an hour, what we can do is use a
- 21:13ninety seconds scorecard So I'll give you the tip so that your your viewers can have that as
- 21:17well.
- 21:17So you just take a plain blank piece of paper and you draw a line in the middle of it.
- 21:22To the left is the problem or the situation that you're currently dealing with that could
- 21:27take you longer to solve than it would with this tip.
- 21:30So you write out what happened.
- 21:32Who did it affect?
- 21:33How do I feel?
- 21:35What's gonna happen?
- 21:36You know, all of those different facts and feelings.
- 21:39That you might come out of that situation.
- 21:41And then you have a timer on your phone.
- 21:43Within ninety seconds, you switch to the right side you move your pen to the right side and
- 21:48you find the solution.
- 21:49So that means I can do this.
- 21:51I could reach out to this.
- 21:52I could right?
- 21:53So, again, for 90 seconds, and then you look at that sheet of paper and go, that's the 1.
- 21:58Just circle the the solution that is there.
- 22:01So we talk about that as well as three good things.
- 22:05So if you're feeling that sense of overwhelm, how are you going to just anchor in?
- 22:10Okay.
- 22:11And here's what I'm thankful for now so that I can shift that perspective.
- 22:163 good things.
- 22:17We use Jan and I for thrive experts.
- 22:20We use citrine stones.
- 22:21So we teach people how to use that.
- 22:23Jenna is a therapist as well.
- 22:25We teach them how to use that to refocus their attention.
- 22:29Into, you know, an object where you would just create some calm for yourself, because You're
- 22:37absolutely right.
- 22:37It's it's easy to feel a sense of overwhelm.
- 22:40There's a lot to do.
- 22:43Well, absolutely.
- 22:43And, you know, and and what One time I was going through it, I I needed I was applying to
- 22:49become a professional speaker.
- 22:51And I was going through my entire year.
- 22:54Because I hadn't stopped.
- 22:56So I looked through a full year of all the events that I had done and all the things that
- 23:01I and I, afterwards, I thought Oh, oh my goodness.
- 23:05I know I had done a lot.
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:07But I had not stopped, and I was like, wow.
- 23:10Because I had to have you know, a certain amount of events.
- 23:13I had to have a certain amount of income, blah, and just not that just after a while because
- 23:17and then I was going through all my different social media.
- 23:20To see what post I had done and the and I was like, if only I had done that more often, I
- 23:27would have recognized what I had achieved in that year.
- 23:31But because again, you're doing, you're doing, you're doing, and you're not stopping to think,
- 23:34wow.
- 23:35Today, I did this.
- 23:35Today, I reached out to this client who, you know, has made this massive change.
- 23:39I've seen this person.
- 23:40I've, you know, done, you know, I I'm doing my podcast with you.
- 23:45I've I've put out another podcast all those things, but it all gets jumbled up.
- 23:49And then you're like, what, like, just to your point when you're tired, it's kinda hard to
- 23:52extract out.
- 23:54All the positives because all you're looking at is potentially what things you didn't get to
- 23:59that you think you should have in the time periods that you had that day.
- 24:03Exactly.
- 24:03And so, like, yesterday's keynote in front of a theater of 300 people plus, that's going in my
- 24:10gratitude jar.
- 24:11Right?
- 24:12Because the gratitude jar, it's just a quick sticky.
- 24:14It's the different colors so that it looks pretty when you're looking at it.
- 24:18Right.
- 24:18Every once in a while, when it's like, oh my god.
- 24:20I can't do this, or why is there so much?
- 24:22Or whatever that feeling is, you just grab the jar, open it up, and like, Oh, yeah.
- 24:27That was a fun day.
- 24:28Okay.
- 24:28That's why I'm doing it right.
- 24:30So I like that.
- 24:31I've I've never heard of that.
- 24:32I like that.
- 24:33That's really nice.
- 24:34Well, basically, Oh, there's so many strategies I could share.
- 24:37They, it's basically just a glass jar that you might use for, like, pasta in the kitchen or
- 24:42something.
- 24:43And then stickies and writing out just a quick note.
- 24:46Like, I'm so thankful my kids are healthy.
- 24:48Mhmm.
- 24:48I'm so thankful I was able to travel today.
- 24:51I might.
- 24:52Right?
- 24:52And putting that in the jar so that at that time, when you have that sense of overwhelm and
- 24:58and you're wondering about your why, pull it out, pause, breathe, and and goal.
- 25:02And I've got lots of those strategies.
- 25:04So if anybody wants help, just reach out.
- 25:05Well, that's awesome.
- 25:06I I mean, I think it's those little things.
- 25:08Right?
- 25:08Just, I often you know, probably explain in more clinical terms, but I often say the
- 25:13prefrontal cortex is off.
- 25:14You're in the limbic part of the brain, and adrenaline and cortisol is having a bit of a
- 25:18party in your body.
- 25:20How are you gonna turn it back on and, you know, kind of talk about strategies from a
- 25:24neuroscience perspective?
- 25:25But, really, what you're doing is gratitude is really keeping you conscious of what what you
- 25:29have achieved, which is, you know, the most, you know, important part of the brain to live
- 25:34in because when we get overwhelmed, we kinda sit sit here in the middle part of the brain
- 25:40that lights up like a Christmas tree and we respond to every trigger or that's going on.
- 25:45So Yeah.
- 25:47Talk a little bit about your book series that you, you know, an international bestseller.
- 25:52So tell me a bit about that.
- 25:54And what's what what are the content, of the books that you've
- 25:58been a part of?
- 25:59Absolutely.
- 25:59So the first one, dream boldly, I dare you came out Thanksgiving a few years back.
- 26:05And it's a series of stories from 31 different individuals who were interested in inspiring
- 26:11others to just think bigger than what they're currently thinking.
- 26:15Okay.
- 26:15Okay.
- 26:15In that book, I wrote about where belief in yourself in bold moves meet.
- 26:21So I share the story about leaving that really comfortable corporate role and just taking
- 26:27selling our house, moving to another community to actually make it happen, make it work.
- 26:32And so I share that story and others share their own kind of journey, and it's it's an
- 26:36opportunity for you to uncover 100 dreams in 10 days.
- 26:42That's the way the book is designed.
- 26:44It's also designed over 31 days for you to enjoy a cup of tea.
- 26:48I'm a tea drink.
- 26:48You're not a coffee drinker, but enjoy whatever it is you drink in the morning and just have
- 26:53that story of inspiration to have you thinking, well, what was it I wanted?
- 26:57And how do I do you know, what can I do?
- 27:00And that one was it came out right when I finished my positive psychology course through
- 27:05UC Berkeley, and the book was up with other books that were in program, and it was
- 27:10like, my phone.
- 27:12Like, one should push.
- 27:14Snapshot in time.
- 27:15I did this.
- 27:16Like, all these How amazing is that?
- 27:18Right?
- 27:18Like, I mean, it's it's, you work hard, like, obviously, like, you know, and then when you
- 27:23see it, I remember when I wrote my my book.
- 27:26I've been parts of anthologies before, but when it was my own, and I remember the box came to
- 27:31my door, and I I was like, You know?
- 27:33Yeah.
- 27:33You
- 27:34know, nobody was home.
- 27:34I was like, geez.
- 27:35Nobody's home.
- 27:36So I took it.
- 27:37I went over to a dear friend in, you know, and she's she's part of the dedication.
- 27:41I went over with the book.
- 27:42And I said, oh my god.
- 27:43I definitely believe this is happening.
- 27:44So it's it it really, you know, makes you realize that you know, dreams do come true.
- 27:49Right?
- 27:49And Well, and so in the process of being a co author and being with that group of women who
- 27:54are outstanding, Carrie's step led the series, she helped us unlock 100 dreams in 10 days.
- 28:01I looked it back at my notes the next year, and this year.
- 28:05So I hadn't done anything about this year.
- 28:08I booked, a mission trip to South Africa, and I'm going November 11th.
- 28:12And that was on my list.
- 28:14Oh my god.
- 28:16Wow.
- 28:17Wow.
- 28:17What an amazing thing to be able to do.
- 28:20Yeah.
- 28:20And so the second book in the series came out closer to Christmas last year, and that book is
- 28:26dream boldly, I dare you course to manifest miracles on demand.
- 28:30So it invites people to unlock those thoughts, those drain same process.
- 28:3631 days, each story is there to inspire you.
- 28:39And, it's kinda like you have a, a hero within.
- 28:44So how do we ignite it?
- 28:46Right?
- 28:46And in that book, there's course code, which Carrie created.
- 28:52She's, an Amazon master course creator.
- 28:56She created a course to help people know what to do once they've uncovered the dream.
- 29:01So how do you bring it to life?
- 29:02That's amazing.
- 29:04Sounds super amazing.
- 29:06Thank you.
- 29:07Now, so you said you you do a lot of, individual coaching you also do group coaching,
- 29:14and you also do a fair amount of training.
- 29:16Tell me a little bit more about so you do that LinkedIn business training, is that something
- 29:22that's ongoing through LinkedIn, or is it something that you do through your own
- 29:25business?
- 29:26Yeah.
- 29:26I do that through my own business.
- 29:28So LinkedIn is a great platform to be on, and you can work your way towards influencer, and
- 29:33I'm I'm getting there.
- 29:34I'm close
- 29:34to that
- 29:35so that they actually connect people with you with your expertise.
- 29:39So, for example, I have individuals who message me, based on their needs, and then I response.
- 29:46So LinkedIn is sending me people who could, leverage my support.
- 29:51And what I know is my business, it was doing well.
- 29:55Right?
- 29:55Like, I had several contracts, and it was fine.
- 29:59But once I really leverage the power of LinkedIn, Yes.
- 30:04That's where I needed to expand the team.
- 30:06I needed associate coaches.
- 30:08So I know from personal experience that you once you leverage that tool properly, you your
- 30:15business will be thriving.
- 30:17So I built this course after learning the platform for 8 years so that you could also
- 30:23take the on demand course and know, okay.
- 30:25Well, this is how I use it because most people think it's still an online resume, and it's
- 30:31not.
- 30:32Mhmm.
- 30:32Mhmm.
- 30:33Right?
- 30:34So how can you be using the platform to its full potential?
- 30:37So the on demand course allows you to pull it, stop it, go to your profile, update to the
- 30:42thing.
- 30:44And then put it in place for you.
- 30:47So, I have an option for people who just buy the on demand or to also have coaching sessions
- 30:52with me to personalize their profile demo.
- 30:55Okay.
- 30:56Okay.
- 30:56Well, that's that's great to know.
- 30:58I'm sure if any business, people on there, I know mine's not where it should be, and it's
- 31:03good to know that you offer that that because that might be something that I would reach out
- 31:06to you for.
- 31:08Because again, you know, having that presence is one thing.
- 31:12And I I mean, I do have a fair amount of people on, but am I leveraging it in a way that helps
- 31:17to accentuate my brand and authenticity?
- 31:19I'm to assure that I'm doing that to be able to, you know, get the exposure that I need, you
- 31:24know, based on what I'm kind of putting out there weekly and those types.
- 31:27Yeah.
- 31:27So
- 31:28when I work with people, we work on what is the strategy?
- 31:31So how do we actually create a strategy that is your brand that primes people's thinking of you
- 31:36when they have that need?
- 31:38So what adjectives are you using that you want to be describing you and how do you leverage
- 31:43the opportunity to create posts are used again and again with the right strategy to get you
- 31:48the because now LinkedIn is my messages.
- 31:51They just come into my inbox.
- 31:54Oh, from people trying to connect with you and to do business with you directly.
- 31:58That's that's amazing.
- 31:59I I definitely think that, tool that every business needs to learn more of, you know, and
- 32:06I, like I said, so, so with that course, people could just go on to your, your website and be
- 32:15able to sign right up for it.
- 32:16Yeah.
- 32:16So it's it's set up on
- 32:18a different portal.
- 32:19Training at Gymboreeclickingandconsulting.com.
- 32:22And, but if they visit Gymboreecoachingandconsulting.com, they will,
- 32:26you know, have the opportunity to connect and and reach out to, ask more about it, but it's
- 32:32training at Gymboreecountrymenconsulting.com.
- 32:35The reason I think it's so important is That is the professional platforms where people are
- 32:40going in business mind.
- 32:42Right?
- 32:43On Facebook or they go on Pinterest or they go it's that's not where their space is at in that
- 32:49moment.
- 32:50So it's great for us to have a presence on those different platforms.
- 32:53Like, I have 4, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn.
- 32:58And these are really more for social proof.
- 33:00This is for business growth.
- 33:03Yeah.
- 33:03Good point good points, right?
- 33:05Because, like, I mean, that's where all the all the people that can hire you hang out.
- 33:10Not that you probably can through the other socials.
- 33:13But more than likely, it's gonna be somebody that's linked in looking for a need.
- 33:17Like, when I put out my, content weekly, I will see companies from all over that I've had no
- 33:23contact with, or I don't know anybody there that have, you know, kind of, you know,
- 33:27absorbed the content so you could tell that different people are looking at it.
- 33:32And for yourself, the first hashtag that I can think of when you put out post is hashtag call
- 33:38for speaker Right?
- 33:41Because LinkedIn, you don't use 30 hashtags like you do on Instagram, but maybe you would
- 33:46use 3 4 that are aligned for you, and we would customize those together.
- 33:50Call for speakers.
- 33:51I have to write that down because I'm gonna forget because I don't have a piece of paper.
- 33:55Call for speakers.
- 33:56Yeah.
- 33:56Just hash make coffee speakers.
- 33:58And what I do is I work with people to customize those so that you have a a strategy
- 34:01behind what you're doing because, you can just get lost.
- 34:04In social, and so many people that I talk to say, I just don't know where to start.
- 34:09Like, I know I'm supposed to be there.
- 34:10I know I'm supposed to be doing this stuff, but help.
- 34:13I don't know how to do it.
- 34:15Well, it's because you know what happens is, and I, you know, I can only speak for myself,
- 34:20you hear about the new thing, and then you hear about, you know, IG and then you hear about,
- 34:24you know, I should be on YouTube, and then you hear I should be putting on videos all the
- 34:28time.
- 34:28And then, you know, then you should have a podcast, which obviously I have, but all the,
- 34:32you know, I mean, and then you kinda feel like everything's careening out of control.
- 34:36As you're trying to decide on the strategy.
- 34:38And, of course, to your point, you have to stick to what I've decided I wanna do this.
- 34:43Don't get distracted because then it's that dare in the lights where you're you're trying
- 34:47to do everything and you're not doing any of it very well.
- 34:51I had waters down, you know, what you're trying to get out there.
- 34:54You know, in reference to messaging.
- 34:56Yeah.
- 34:57And a lot of people give it too quickly.
- 34:59Consistency pays dividends.
- 35:02Mhmm.
- 35:02If more business owners knew that, they would know that they are 10 feet from gold.
- 35:07Right?
- 35:08Had I said oh, I'm not getting likes.
- 35:10I'm not getting, you know, why is nobody commenting on my stuff on LinkedIn?
- 35:14I wouldn't have that employment lawyer who booked into my calendar.
- 35:19And 5 minutes later said I'm sending my clients to you.
- 35:22She has one thing or commented on one thing, but she's been watching for 6 months.
- 35:28Right?
- 35:29She's like, this girl knows her stuff.
- 35:30I gotta talk to her.
- 35:31Right.
- 35:32So, again, that's a that's a great example.
- 35:35Of how you're generating business based on just being out there and, you know, consistency,
- 35:41like you said, I'm actually gonna use that quote with your name on it.
- 35:45To promote our podcasts because that makes so much sense because you, you know, you do things
- 35:50over and over again, and you're maybe thinking, oh, I should be having a hundred people at it
- 35:55or whatever, and it's not the case oftentimes.
- 35:57And you're thinking, oh, was that worth it?
- 36:00You know, you're second guessing yourself, but you never know, like you said, who's watching
- 36:04and who's actually absorbing it, but maybe not letting letting you know that they're out there
- 36:09kinda watching you just to see because A lot of people have needs, right, but they're not sure.
- 36:14They're they're they're shopping until they, you know, what is it trust and and like you
- 36:19before they'll even consider doing business with you?
- 36:21Yeah.
- 36:21Like no trust.
- 36:22You gotta build that up.
- 36:23And so if I wanna be known as knowledgeable, I need to share content that primes people's
- 36:29thinking to be, that's who we need to speak with.
- 36:31Right?
- 36:32Absolutely.
- 36:33Well, this has been, this has been amazing.
- 36:36So for people out there that want to reach out, and know a little bit more about you.
- 36:44So I I think you should spell your last name because I I'm not sure that, the listeners,
- 36:49will be able to get it and, just why don't you do the the two sites?
- 36:56And then any other call to actions that you might have that you want people to to reach out
- 37:00to you for?
- 37:01For sure.
- 37:02So it's Gymboree, jim verecoachingandconsulting.com.
- 37:08And so on my website, you have access to 3 free series.
- 37:12One is how to adopt a coach approach.
- 37:152 is how to get help during change.
- 37:19And 3 is increasing your positive emotion.
- 37:22So all three of those free series are there, and each of them have a 2 minute video.
- 37:27There's 5 videos in the series, and it's there to just shoot share proven strategies with you.
- 37:32So Gymboreecoachingandconsultant.com.
- 37:35With Thrive experts, that's thrivex P e r t s.
- 37:41So there's not 2 e.
- 37:42Thrive experts.
- 37:44When with that website, when you come to it, you notice that Jen and I partnered together to
- 37:49for you to to really kind of move from expert to master.
- 37:53So a lot of times when we're in peak performance, what happens is overwhelm happens
- 37:58because now have to I have to beat what I've beat before, and that was really hard to get
- 38:03to.
- 38:03So her and I have a free series for Thrive Experts where you can gain access to a guided
- 38:09meditation, a strengths finder, in different pieces like a Mandela that you can color.
- 38:15Strategies that we know that we'll for you to kinda come back to breath and get back into
- 38:20action.
- 38:20So all four of those series are out there.
- 38:23They're jam packed with quality.
- 38:24I promise you if you sign up, you're gonna be happy you did.
- 38:28And I'm I'm here to support you.
- 38:30So if you're almost into business planning mode, that's one of my areas of expertise.
- 38:34I really help people with having an actual plan that they can action every week.
- 38:38If you need help with LinkedIn for business growth, I can help there.
- 38:42Or if you're in an organization that needs, you know, a business coach or a change management
- 38:47specialist, with my HR background, I kind of fill the gap where some HR teams don't have
- 38:53that knowledge that I'm bringing in.
- 38:55Excellent.
- 38:56Excellent.
- 38:57So really what you're saying at the end of the day I'm gonna quote what you just said, which
- 39:04makes so much sense, because this is CPA's dividends.
- 39:07So know know who you are, know why you're doing what you're doing, map of your high, high peak
- 39:19hours and deliver on things that are giving to give you the highest return on that investment
- 39:25of time.
- 39:26Don't, you know, daily dally with the things that are kind of fun and, you know, before, you
- 39:30know, it's a slippery slope, and I've looked at every social media you know, post about who did
- 39:35what, when, just stick to what you know.
- 39:38It, you know, it's hard to do.
- 39:39Like you said, Jennifer Bets, if you did that consistently, I would think even for 3 months,
- 39:46you would probably see, growth in your business.
- 39:49Yeah.
- 39:50So I operate 3 companies on 4 social media channels.
- 39:54I post within 12 minutes.
- 39:56I'm on 12 minutes later, I'm off.
