- 0:18Speaker 1: a King Tamiro, Ladies and Gentlemen, your producer, the successful
- 0:23Speaker 1: d the Mill.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Leaming from Hollywood. Ladies and Gentlemen. Deep in the heart
- 0:32Speaker 2: of New York City is a strange foreign country called
- 0:35Speaker 2: Greenwich Village. The inhabitants are painters and long showmen, sculptors,
- 0:40Speaker 2: food teachers, and stockbrokers. It's a place where the normal
- 0:44Speaker 2: seems expensive, and any dark night, a shadowy character may
- 0:47Speaker 2: tap you on the shoulder and try to sell you
- 0:50Speaker 2: a poem or a painting. The strange adventures of two
- 0:53Speaker 2: girls from the Middle West who settled down in this
- 0:56Speaker 2: never never Lands kept Broadway audiences laughing for about two years.
- 1:01Speaker 2: The play was called My Sister Eileen. Columbia Studio made
- 1:05Speaker 2: the picture and it's still making Eileen famous in theaters
- 1:08Speaker 2: throughout the world. Roslind Russell, Brian Ahan and Janet Blair
- 1:14Speaker 2: all gave delightful performances on the screen, and the three
- 1:17Speaker 2: of them lend the authentic touch to our production. Tonight
- 1:20Speaker 2: with a keen Tamira heading our supporting cast. Until the
- 1:25Speaker 2: opening performance of any play, no one can predict a
- 1:28Speaker 2: hit in the theater. That's because art is unfortunately not
- 1:32Speaker 2: so predictable as science. The things happen rather differently with
- 1:36Speaker 2: a product like lux Flakes that's designed with precision beforehand
- 1:42Speaker 2: to do the things that are sure to make a hit.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I wish the same scientist could work out a way
- 1:47Speaker 2: to tell me how the public will receive a picture.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Maybe it can't be done in show business, but they've
- 1:53Speaker 2: certainly taken the guest work.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Out of housework.
- 1:55Speaker 2: You're not guessing when you use luck flake. Now Tonight's

- 45:04Speaker 1: Home.
- 45:05Speaker 5: I can explain the whole thing if you can make

- 45:08Speaker 2: On the way back to Columbus.
- 45:15Speaker 9: Few packed rooms.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Just about horrible, that's what it is. Just horrible. And
- 45:21Speaker 3: after meeting the nicest person we met in our lives,
- 45:24Speaker 3: the first person who really seemed to care what happened
- 45:26Speaker 3: to my career?
- 45:28Speaker 8: You mean, mister Baker.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yes, Bob Baker. Now how am I going to call

- 46:50Speaker 9: mister Baker.
- 46:50Speaker 3: We won't take it, thank you very much.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Oh I get it.
- 46:54Speaker 4: You're going to read page fifteen of this new issue
- 46:56Speaker 4: of the Manhatta and you're gonna hold it up, ehuse,
- 46:59Speaker 4: You're gonna show us for all my a million dollars.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Well, what's honest?
- 47:02Speaker 3: Look, my sister, I lean by Ruth Sherwood. Miss what
- 47:07Speaker 3: that means? Ruthe that's your store? How did it happen?
- 47:11Speaker 1: Do you think it happens? And if you want to know,
- 47:13Speaker 1: several people have already for me.
- 47:14Speaker 4: They say that they consider this is the best human
- 47:16Speaker 4: interest story of the year.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Oh no, yes, you young ladies, but I couldn't help.
- 47:21Speaker 1: But aready here.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Congratulation all right, Papa, thank you, and you can have

- 47:31Speaker 7: I'm sure we can understand it.
- 47:33Speaker 3: M No, I'm sure you think so now, mister apopol
- 47:36Speaker 3: But in the future we certainly won't be living in
- 47:38Speaker 3: a place where there are explosions under the there but wait, wait, is.
- 47:42Speaker 7: The blessing is go?
- 47:43Speaker 5: I just got a letter from the city. What in
- 47:45Speaker 5: black and white? Please not blasting, will terminate on August.

- 48:44Speaker 7: Now they're starting too.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Three away.
- 48:48Speaker 2: You kie.
- 48:50Speaker 7: Now I'm convinced you girls are coming right back to numbers.
- 48:53Speaker 7: Oh no, no, no, not Ruth Girlwood.
- 48:54Speaker 1: What's that I didn't tell you?
- 48:56Speaker 7: Ruthles this this morning. Mister Craveners decided.
- 48:58Speaker 1: That there is room in his publication.
- 48:59Speaker 7: But the human and I have a contract here for
- 49:01Speaker 7: all the future Aileen stories you'll ever write, oh rue.
- 49:05Speaker 3: And believe me, the Ileen stories will go on forever.
- 49:08Speaker 9: Why, I've just got loads of the cial I'll guarantee them.
- 49:11Speaker 7: I'll see here, what's happening here?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Look, I've made up my d No, no, you can't
- 49:15Speaker 1: take respect the Columbus Now, I don't just see. She
- 49:17Speaker 1: and I have a lot of work to do together.
- 49:19Speaker 1: They take years, maybe even a lifetime to finish. I
- 49:22Speaker 1: wonder if you understand a lifetime.
- 49:25Speaker 3: It's getting to be near to me.
- 49:26Speaker 2: You mean you want to you and Ruth you?
- 49:29Speaker 5: Oh well, in any case, certainly, I mean is coming home?
- 49:32Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, Dad, jeusn't if I say, Aileen
- 49:35Speaker 3: says too. They know it's a lot of people in
- 49:37Speaker 3: the theaptical world, of course, Ida.
- 49:39Speaker 7: Well, we are to celebrate.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Willill all be my guests for dinner?
- 49:41Speaker 3: Now you're talking, young man, but no spaghetti?
- 49:44Speaker 1: Positively not home on Hold on mother, let's story.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Who there's something coming up to the floor.
- 49:51Speaker 5: They're coming to the floor.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Oh excuse me, lady theme all, I think we make
- 50:00Speaker 2: the wrong time.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Our stars will be back for a curtain call in
- 50:12Speaker 1: just a moment. We're a little late for Mother's Day
- 50:16Speaker 1: or even for Father's Day, but good news about babies
- 50:19Speaker 1: is welcome any day in the year. You know those
- 50:22Speaker 1: underpinnings that baby wears, Well, they used to be triangular,
- 50:25Speaker 1: but I understand the modern generation is getting more of
- 50:27Speaker 1: a square deal. Here's a note about them I readin
- 50:29Speaker 1: the paper the other day. To keep up with the
- 50:31Speaker 1: rising birth rate, the WPB has allowed their manufacture to
- 50:34Speaker 1: increase so that by the year's end we'll be producing
- 50:37Speaker 1: one hundred million of them. So it looks as though
- 50:40Speaker 1: an urgent clothing problem for young America is on the
- 50:42Speaker 1: way to being solved, or partly solved. I say partly,
- 50:46Speaker 1: because baby must not only have these important bits of
- 50:48Speaker 1: wearing apparel, but mother or nurse must see sure that
- 50:51Speaker 1: they're properly cared for so they're comfortable for baby to wear.
- 50:55Speaker 1: And that's where New Improved luck Flakes come into the picture.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Wise Mother, the super safe New Lucks for all of
- 51:02Speaker 1: babies washable, then they run no risk of having the
- 51:04Speaker 1: harmful alkali from strong soap remain in the fabrics to
- 51:07Speaker 1: irritate baby's tender skin. When you wash them the dental
- 51:10Speaker 1: Luck's way, little sweaters and woolies will come out soft
- 51:13Speaker 1: and fluff. They won't shrink out of shape or shade
- 51:16Speaker 1: or get hearts and scratch it. New Improved Lucks is
- 51:20Speaker 1: the gentlest kind of washing care for everything your baby wears,
- 51:24Speaker 1: and the richer, longer lasting SuDS do more work than ever,
- 51:27Speaker 1: so it's very prifty care too. It comes in the
- 51:29Speaker 1: same familiar blue box New Improved luck Slakes. Now here's
- 51:35Speaker 1: mister de Mill with our stars.
- 51:37Speaker 2: If we all feel a little merrier than we did
- 51:39Speaker 2: an hour ago, hours the time to give credit to
- 51:42Speaker 2: Rosalind Russell Bryan and her Janet Flair and I came
- 51:45Speaker 2: to their us.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Thank you, mister Demill.
- 51:48Speaker 7: It's a pleasure to be here again. In fact, Sipe,
- 51:50Speaker 7: this is Rustling's first appearance here since he became.
- 51:52Speaker 1: The mother the handsomest baby in Hollywood?
- 51:54Speaker 5: Is that fuzzy seem lu Oh, I don't think he
- 51:57Speaker 5: really is a Kim now Ross Justine modest.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Okay, he taught me into it.
- 52:01Speaker 2: What's his name, Rob?
- 52:02Speaker 1: His name is Karl Man, and I guess he's listening
- 52:05Speaker 1: in tonight.
- 52:05Speaker 7: Of course, maybe he's an even sweety.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Well eight weeks old.
- 52:09Speaker 5: He's a little young for that.
- 52:10Speaker 1: A Kim.
- 52:11Speaker 2: If you want any advice on raising children, Roblin.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Just ask me. That sounds like it's already talking.
- 52:17Speaker 2: The authority of four children and seven grandchildren, Janns. I
- 52:21Speaker 2: know the business from the two am bottle at the
- 52:23Speaker 2: stage when they attacked the dining room table with a hacket.
- 52:28Speaker 2: By the way, Brian, the last time you were here,
- 52:31Speaker 2: you were you were studying to become a flying instructor.
- 52:34Speaker 2: How's it coming along?
- 52:35Speaker 3: Well?
- 52:36Speaker 1: Be I hope it's out right away.
- 52:37Speaker 7: Oh, good luck, Rime, thank you, Jennet. No, see, b
- 52:39Speaker 7: what about next week's play? Those is the season for you,

- 53:01Speaker 2: in love with her, a crew which followed her from
- 53:04Speaker 2: America to Hawaii, to Wake Island, to Manila and to Australia.
- 53:09Speaker 2: Mary Anne is a flying fortress and we will tell
- 53:12Speaker 2: you her a wonderful story next Monday night.
- 53:16Speaker 3: It should be a very thrilling radio drama. Mister the mill,
- 53:18Speaker 3: good night and good.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Night to night, good night, good night, if even by
- 53:25Speaker 2: even as much as I have, ladies and gentlemen, to day,
- 53:35Speaker 2: we we not only celebrate our independence, but in every
- 53:39Speaker 2: corner of the world, our boys are fighting for us,
- 53:42Speaker 2: fighting for the freedom that was one so hard and
