- 0:54Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor, pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Hey, hey, we're testing it here.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I know, I'm in your class.
- 1:26Speaker 5: I remember you.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Where you been?
- 1:27Speaker 6: Bathroom.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Six weeks?
- 1:28Speaker 3: My zipper got stuck.
- 1:51Speaker 4: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian, and
- 1:53Speaker 4: with me this week we have quite an assortment. First
- 1:56Speaker 4: of all, Ben is back. Hi, guys. Ben, you almost
- 2:00Speaker 4: pulled a Roger, and you have to be a really
- 2:02Speaker 4: long-time listener to get that reference. But Ben was on
- 2:06Speaker 4: regularly for a long time, and then we didn't know
- 2:08Speaker 4: where you went. It wasn't even like, damn it, Ben,
- 2:11Speaker 4: don't come back. You were just gone one day.
- 2:13Speaker 5: The way I remember it is I was at Yeti
- 2:16Speaker 5: Spaghetti 2012. Uh-huh. I went to use the bathroom, and
- 2:20Speaker 5: I just now came out of the bathroom. Huh. So, yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 5: I'm ready to eat some spaghetti. I'm ready to do it.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Let's do it. Yeti Spaghetti 2012.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Well, we've done another one since then. You missed it.
- 2:31Speaker 5: What did I miss?
- 2:32Speaker 4: We did a whole other Yeti Spaghetti.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Oh, okay. So, is it like, it's the same?
- 2:38Speaker 4: No, that movie was even arguably worse.
- 2:42Speaker 5: What year is it?
- 2:43Speaker 4: Where are we? This is 1998.
- 2:44Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
- 2:44Speaker 4: That makes sense. So we're glad to have you back.
- 2:51Speaker 4: We don't know where you went. We won't ask any questions.
- 2:54Speaker 5: It's very good to be back.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Now, also, this is Anthony. Anthony, you and I closed
- 3:01Speaker 4: the video store. We, I think, personally are responsible.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it was pretty much because of me that that happened,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'd like to think.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I've had many people blame me because I've killed a
- 3:11Speaker 4: couple of video stores now. But I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 4: it's me, not Anthony. 20 years of a changing marketplace. No, no,
- 3:17Speaker 4: it's me that killed the video store.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I've been told I'm a snake in the grass, but
- 3:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 3:21Speaker 4: That's kind of true. I still don't know that we
- 3:24Speaker 4: single-handedly or.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't think we did.
- 3:28Speaker 4: But, yeah, that's how we came to be hooked up
- 3:32Speaker 4: in this crazy movie world. So I've been wanting to
- 3:36Speaker 4: get you to sit down with us as well.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm happy to be here. Thanks for having me.
- 3:40Speaker 4: And introduce your partner in crime here.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Partner in crime, I have Matilda DeAngelis with me. She
- 3:45Speaker 1: works with me over at the Y Louisville stores here.
- 3:49Speaker 4: And is hardcore movie geek.
- 3:52Speaker 1: She is hardcore about movies, mainly about the costumes and
- 3:56Speaker 1: the fashions and the hairs.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yeah. You definitely need to show up for the Oscar night.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Oscar meltdown is in your future then. We need more
- 4:05Speaker 4: red carpet coverage is what we need. So, I guess
- 4:09Speaker 4: to ease our way into it, let's do geek activities.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Has anybody seen anything lately? I have one, and I'm
- 4:16Speaker 4: kind of interested to see if anybody else... Has anyone
- 4:19Speaker 4: seen the new Terminator?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Unfortunately, I haven't made it yet.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I have not seen it. I know it does have
- 4:27Speaker 5: James Cameron's special approval, because there's like a whole thing
- 4:33Speaker 5: you have to watch before... Like any movie you go
- 4:37Speaker 5: to see now, like before the movie starts, it's like
- 4:39Speaker 5: this long extended trailer where James Cameron is selling you
- 4:43Speaker 5: the new Terminator. It's like, it's really good. It's basically
- 4:47Speaker 5: him saying, like, it's not that bad, guys. Well, that's
- 4:50Speaker 5: the deal of.
- 4:51Speaker 4: One on my movie. Hey, this movie you're about to watch,
- 4:54Speaker 4: it's not that bad.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Daenerys Stormborn, I see she changed her hair color.
- 4:58Speaker 4: That's the thing. I sat there the whole time going...
- 5:01Speaker 4: man this chick's really good why don't i know who
- 5:04Speaker 4: she oh wait i do i just don't know her
- 5:05Speaker 4: without the other hair because i really didn't watch game
- 5:08Speaker 4: of thrones i think i'm the only person in the
- 5:09Speaker 4: world not watching.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Oh no you're not alone okay i have not seen
- 5:13Speaker 5: that show.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I don't have a problem with it i just never
- 5:16Speaker 4: got around.
- 5:16Speaker 5: It's very alienating and yeah kind of bad i just
- 5:20Speaker 5: it's one of those things that's so inclusive it's exclusive
- 5:24Speaker 5: I feel like we need to catch up with the
- 5:25Speaker 5: rest of planet earth.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Brian, at least you were stuck in the bathroom for
- 5:28Speaker 4: a couple of years. That's your, I have an excuse.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I was in a bathroom. I just could not find
- 5:32Speaker 5: my way out of there. It was, it was awful.
- 5:34Speaker 4: It's like summer school all over again.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 5:36Speaker 4: So, um, yeah, that, that's the thing. I have heard
- 5:40Speaker 4: a lot of negative things going in. So I went
- 5:44Speaker 4: in with really low expectations since then. I have read
- 5:48Speaker 4: a pretty horrible review of it as well. And I'm like, I,
- 5:52Speaker 4: I don't, get it i was okay with it like
- 5:55Speaker 4: i expected so bad like i went in went i
- 5:58Speaker 4: was actually worried like the first 15 minutes or so
- 6:01Speaker 4: it's almost trying to recreate that first terminator and i'm
- 6:04Speaker 4: like oh this is a bad idea don't don't don't
- 6:07Speaker 4: don't reboot that much don't go down that road and
- 6:10Speaker 4: then it takes its turn and it like figures out
- 6:12Speaker 4: no we're gonna do our own thing and it goes
- 6:15Speaker 4: down a totally different path it totally plays with the
- 6:18Speaker 4: terminator timeline which by the way is beat to hell
- 6:20Speaker 4: at this point yeah is it just me or by
- 6:22Speaker 4: that second movie the entire universe should have collapsed upon
- 6:25Speaker 4: itself like.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't even know why the you know salvation just
- 6:28Speaker 1: left a bad taste in my mouth i don't know
- 6:30Speaker 1: why they named it salvation i skipped that one is
- 6:33Speaker 1: the funny part i've seen the other four and now
- 6:36Speaker 1: i'm like I guess at some point I'll have to
- 6:38Speaker 1: watch Salvation. It came out, and I was like, Christian Bale,
- 6:41Speaker 1: he's on a roll right now. I'll check this out.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And it was on my birthday. I went and saw
- 6:45Speaker 1: it on my birthday. I was like, this is a
- 6:46Speaker 1: terrible birthday present. Thank you.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Good for you. It's my favorite. That's the only reason
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'm glad they made that movie, so he could have
- 6:54Speaker 4: that rant.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 6:56Speaker 4: That's still so funny. I like him a little more
- 6:58Speaker 4: for yelling at that guy. Quit walking through his scene,
- 7:02Speaker 4: you jackass. Anyways.
- 7:04Speaker 5: When you get to feel nostalgic about Terminator 3, as
- 7:08Speaker 5: far as, like, that was a good one.
- 7:10Speaker 4: See, that was what I was more worried about.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I missed that movie.
- 7:12Speaker 4: That was what I was more worried about, because I
- 7:13Speaker 4: feel like 3 is just kind of a ripoff of 2,
- 7:16Speaker 4: but not so good.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it was kind of like... Because, I mean, also,
- 7:21Speaker 5: I just saw The New Jurassic World, and not to
- 7:23Speaker 5: get on that movie, but I feel like.
- 7:25Speaker 4: We can, because I don't think we've really covered it.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Well, I mean, there's a lot to talk about.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yes, there is.
- 7:30Speaker 5: I mean.
- 7:32Speaker 2: But.
- 7:33Speaker 5: No, I was just seeing that, and everyone was talking about, oh, yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 5: Jurassic Park 3. Like, that wasn't so bad. But I
- 7:40Speaker 5: remember when it came out, everyone was like, this is
- 7:41Speaker 5: the worst. Like, this is the dumbest movie. And I
- 7:45Speaker 5: think that's how, like, the third Terminator is at this point. Like, we,
- 7:50Speaker 5: the last, I don't know, this last movie looks so awful.
- 7:54Speaker 5: We're kind of.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Did they spell Genesis wrong? Is that right?
- 7:57Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Which is another reason I win with my guard up.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I was like, oh, they can't even spell Genesis. These
- 8:03Speaker 4: guys suck. Again, I kind of like the weird timeline
- 8:08Speaker 4: that they take. I kind of like the weird approach
- 8:11Speaker 4: that they take. The huge question for everybody, and I've
- 8:14Speaker 4: said it for years, I'm like, why is this robot
- 8:16Speaker 4: an old man now? They find a way to make
- 8:18Speaker 4: that work.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Really?
- 8:20Speaker 1: Now I've got to see it.
- 8:21Speaker 4: They find a pretty cool way to go about it.
- 8:23Speaker 4: And I was like, I won't ruin it. But I
- 8:25Speaker 4: was just like, all right. They do find a reason
- 8:27Speaker 4: at one point. And then I'm like, all right, that
- 8:29Speaker 4: makes sense. And then later I'm like, all right, this
- 8:31Speaker 4: all kind of works out timeline-wise. So, yeah, again, even
- 8:36Speaker 4: though the timeline should have destroyed itself. If you factor
- 8:40Speaker 4: in the TV series as well, I'm like, how many
- 8:42Speaker 4: times have they looped around on themselves? Like, it should
- 8:45Speaker 4: have completely unraveled time and space.
- 8:48Speaker 5: That's right. There was a TV series.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 5: I totally forgot about that.
- 8:51Speaker 1: There must have been just like a giant dry erase
- 8:53Speaker 1: board when they're writing up the script for Genesis. Actually,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I think they erased it.
- 8:59Speaker 7: Scrap it all.
- 9:00Speaker 1: We're starting over.
- 9:01Speaker 4: And they went, what's the beginning of the first one?
- 9:03Speaker 4: All right, we'll stick with that for about 15 minutes.
- 9:05Speaker 4: And from there, we're writing our own shit.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 4: That's pretty much what it came down to.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Was the same... Did the same guy who directed the
- 9:12Speaker 5: last Terminator... do this one as well.
- 9:15Speaker 4: No, it wasn't. Are we talking Salvation? Because that was McG,
- 9:18Speaker 4: wasn't it?
- 9:18Speaker 5: Yeah, the guy with the dumb neck.
- 9:20Speaker 4: No, it was not McG, thankfully. So I didn't, again, visually,
- 9:24Speaker 4: I thought it was all right. It didn't, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 4: change my life or anything. But I went in with
- 9:29Speaker 4: such low expectations. I was like, oh, this is all right.
- 9:32Speaker 4: This is fun. I am okay with it. And then
- 9:35Speaker 4: I guess to wrap it up, the way I heard
- 9:37Speaker 4: it described online was It's like the third best Terminator movie.
- 9:41Speaker 4: And I'm like, all right. Wait a second.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Let's review those numbers.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I was like, that sounds like a slam. But I'm like, well,
- 9:48Speaker 4: when two of the three are like game changing science fiction.
- 9:52Speaker 5: One is terrible. And I guess this one. Which one
- 9:56Speaker 5: are you saying?
- 9:57Speaker 4: I thought you were talking at the beginning.
- 9:59Speaker 5: I was like, whoa, whoa.
- 10:00Speaker 4: One is not terrible Oh.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Wait no okay so there's five Including this one So
- 10:05Speaker 5: it's the.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Third best Okay You could do worse, technically.
- 10:10Speaker 5: You could literally do one worse.
- 10:12Speaker 4: One and two are tied, you know? It's like, they're
- 10:14Speaker 4: so amazing what they did at that time. Like, the
- 10:17Speaker 4: first one's just so original in the way it treats everything,
- 10:21Speaker 4: and Every movie since then started stealing stuff from it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Plus you got young Bill Paxton. Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 4: We kind of get that scene. You'll have to go
- 10:31Speaker 4: see it. I was hoping.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Is it old Bill Paxton?
- 10:33Speaker 4: I was like, did they get Bill Paxton's son to
- 10:35Speaker 4: do it? Because that would be pretty funny. I haven't
- 10:37Speaker 4: checked the credits, but that would have been pretty clever, actually. Awesome.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 4: So I don't know. I was like, the second one,
- 10:43Speaker 4: technology kicked in and it became a whole new thing.
- 10:46Speaker 4: And then from there, I'm like, this one's all right.
- 10:49Speaker 4: You can watch three. Maybe skip Salvation. This one's the
- 10:53Speaker 4: third best one.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Well, if you wanted to factor in each episode of
- 10:56Speaker 1: the show.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. I didn't see much. I didn't hate it. Again,
- 11:00Speaker 4: it was kind of like, oh, this is fun. I
- 11:02Speaker 4: like River being a Terminator.
- 11:05Speaker 5: This is fun.
- 11:06Speaker 4: So, yeah, I don't know. I'll have to watch the
- 11:10Speaker 4: season one of that and factor those in as well,
- 11:13Speaker 4: I guess.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And now I'll make it and watch Genesis again. If
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's a third, best out of five.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I'd like to hear your take on it. I'm sure
- 11:21Speaker 4: everyone else out there will bitch about it. But I'm like, eh,
- 11:24Speaker 4: it was fun. What do I care?
- 11:27Speaker 5: Did anyone see Fury Road? I feel like you all
- 11:30Speaker 5: probably talked about it already.
- 11:31Speaker 4: It was one we were going to do a whole
- 11:33Speaker 4: episode on it, and it fell apart because half the
- 11:36Speaker 4: people can't get themselves to a location. So we haven't
- 11:39Speaker 4: really talked about it very much. We lightly grazed it.
- 11:42Speaker 5: A few weeks back. I thought it was fantastic.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I saw it twice.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I saw it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Don't go see movies twice.
- 11:47Speaker 5: I saw it. I saw it four times.
- 11:49Speaker 4: You saw it four times?
- 11:50Speaker 5: I saw it four times, guys.
- 11:51Speaker 4: You guys have problems.
- 11:53Speaker 5: I feel like the last time I saw a movie
- 11:54Speaker 5: four times was like, you know, like 90s Disney era when,
- 11:58Speaker 5: I don't know, like Toy Story or something.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Your parents were just trying to get you out of
- 12:03Speaker 4: the house.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I mean, it almost had like the fantastical villains like
- 12:06Speaker 1: a Disney movie. Like there are many bosses leading up to.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I feel like every bad guy in this movie, like
- 12:13Speaker 5: all the bad guys could have been like, bosses in
- 12:17Speaker 5: Streets of Rage for Sega Genesis.
- 12:19Speaker 4: There's a power-up at some point.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Metal slug coming through.
- 12:23Speaker 5: Even the guitar guy, he looked like... I'm getting so
- 12:28Speaker 5: nerdy with this reference, but in Streets of Rage, one
- 12:30Speaker 5: of the villains is this dude in red pajamas and
- 12:33Speaker 5: stockings who juggles fire. I mean, it's like a dead
- 12:38Speaker 5: ringer for the guitar guy. But I thought it was amazing. Just... Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 5: it just, everything was just, they pulled everything off the action.
- 12:49Speaker 5: They didn't overdo, like, I liked that it wasn't, like,
- 12:53Speaker 5: heavy with, like, dialogue or, like, exposition or anything. It
- 12:57Speaker 5: was just, everything was told totally on, like, on the fly. Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 5: it just felt like just, like, a really awesome, just, like,
- 13:05Speaker 5: a great album. Like, I just wanted to, like, go
- 13:06Speaker 5: back and, like, watch over and over. Because it's two,
- 13:08Speaker 5: it was, like, two hours, but it felt... It flew by.
- 13:11Speaker 5: It flew by, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 8: And.
- 13:13Speaker 4: I might have had the opposite effect on that one.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 4: And I went like that first weekend, but I'd already
- 13:20Speaker 4: heard so much about it and so many people just
- 13:24Speaker 4: worshipping at the feet of Fury Road that I was
- 13:27Speaker 4: just like, I watched it and I was like, all right,
- 13:29Speaker 4: that was cool. I was just not overwhelmed the way
- 13:33Speaker 4: I guess everybody else was. So I guess, but I've
- 13:36Speaker 4: seen it that one time. So maybe I need to
- 13:37Speaker 4: watch it four times.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I guess it's not like a, I mean... like a
- 13:41Speaker 5: game changer or anything like it doesn't necessarily break new
- 13:43Speaker 5: ground as far as like action movies but it's just
- 13:46Speaker 5: all of it is so I guess because just action
- 13:49Speaker 5: movies have just been so shitty for so long just
- 13:52Speaker 5: to see like a real car chase sequence done like
- 13:55Speaker 5: that like I like that's what I was impressed with
- 13:57Speaker 5: I like a car chase like done that well in
- 14:00Speaker 5: at least like 15 years.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I mean, the fact that pretty much all that stuff
- 14:04Speaker 4: was physically done. They enhanced a little here and there
- 14:07Speaker 4: and tried not to kill people. But for the most part,
- 14:10Speaker 4: they flipped and blew up a whole bunch of cars.
- 14:13Speaker 4: So I appreciated that old school part of it. But again,
- 14:16Speaker 4: I think I just went in expecting it to be more.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And then I got there and I went, oh, this
- 14:20Speaker 4: is just a kick-ass action movie. Which is fine. Like,
- 14:22Speaker 4: that's all you need out of Mad Max.
- 14:24Speaker 5: But.
- 14:25Speaker 4: It just doesn't try to do anything. And I think
- 14:27Speaker 4: I was a little thrown off because he's not really
- 14:29Speaker 4: the main character. He's good, but she kind of steals
- 14:34Speaker 4: the movie from him.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Well, they share. When I saw it the second time,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I really saw that it was this exchange between Furiosa
- 14:42Speaker 1: and Max. Every other sequence, they were helping each other
- 14:46Speaker 1: out and saving each other's lives. It was never just
- 14:49Speaker 1: one was taken over for the other. And that was
- 14:52Speaker 1: kind of at the heart of the movie. and why
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think it had such a residual effect with audiences
- 14:58Speaker 1: is because they came out of it and they were like,
- 14:59Speaker 1: there were two good guys in that movie and like
- 15:03Speaker 1: hundreds of bad guys trying to kill them.
- 15:06Speaker 5: I feel like what was interesting, I feel like what was,
- 15:08Speaker 5: I mean, a lot of people were like, Oh, the
- 15:10Speaker 5: characters aren't that fleshed out. Like, you know, you don't
- 15:12Speaker 5: really get a sense of like, you know, Max, cause
- 15:16Speaker 5: they're saying like, Oh, he's kind of in service to Furiosa.
- 15:18Speaker 5: But I feel like he's, Just as fleshed out as anyone. Like, everyone,
- 15:23Speaker 5: I feel like, even the wives, to, like, a certain degree,
- 15:26Speaker 5: have their own kind of mini arcs, if, like, you
- 15:28Speaker 5: kind of pay attention. But it's just done through action. Like,
- 15:31Speaker 5: it's just little things that you notice. Like, say, because
- 15:35Speaker 5: what was, like, one of the girls, like, you know,
- 15:38Speaker 5: she's kind of, she's really just angry the whole time,
- 15:42Speaker 5: but then she, like, makes that cool, you know. Zebra Kravitz. Yeah, well,
- 15:46Speaker 5: that's her's. her thing is cool too because she's just
- 15:49Speaker 5: I feel like she's she pulls the most weight I
- 15:52Speaker 5: feel like out of all the wives in the end
- 15:54Speaker 5: but the one who like meets the cool um uh
- 15:57Speaker 5: grandma lady and like has the plants and everything like
- 16:01Speaker 5: she has that kind of it's almost like a mini
- 16:04Speaker 5: like kind of character like thing and then there's the
- 16:06Speaker 5: girl who like kind of becomes friends with the war
- 16:10Speaker 5: boy and then It's just little things, and also with Max,
- 16:14Speaker 5: I feel like just everything, like his character is kind
- 16:17Speaker 5: of expanded upon through kind of his just like... It
- 16:23Speaker 5: sounds cheesy, but it's just kind of action and not words,
- 16:26Speaker 5: I guess.
- 16:27Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 16:27Speaker 5: I mean, it was just.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I couldn't pick up on that until I saw it
- 16:32Speaker 5: the second and third time.
- 16:34Speaker 1: He really did a great job of picking up where
- 16:36Speaker 1: Gibson left off with Mad Max, because he's always really
- 16:39Speaker 1: kind of soft-spoken and used his... face to tell.
- 16:43Speaker 4: A story and that's one thing I did the more
- 16:46Speaker 4: I thought about it I was like well he's not
- 16:48Speaker 4: you know super in charge of this movie but at
- 16:51Speaker 4: the same time I'm like is he really in there
- 16:53Speaker 4: I don't remember the first one near as much I
- 16:55Speaker 4: need to rewatch that first one but like two and
- 16:57Speaker 4: three he's kind of drug along on the story almost
- 17:00Speaker 4: as much as this one I mean literally at the
- 17:01Speaker 4: beginning of this one but like even like that third
- 17:04Speaker 4: one like he's just sort of drug along with those
- 17:06Speaker 4: kids out in the desert I'm like it's not really
- 17:09Speaker 4: any more like So again, I think I just went
- 17:11Speaker 4: in expecting it to be a little different. And really,
- 17:15Speaker 4: it's probably not that removed from the last couple of sequels.
- 17:17Speaker 4: It's just been 20 years.
- 17:19Speaker 5: I think the genius of it, it's really, I mean,
- 17:21Speaker 5: people are like, Furiosa, she's the star. She's the road
- 17:25Speaker 5: war in this movie. And I'm like, yeah, that's true.
- 17:27Speaker 5: It's like he's the little boomerang kid telling the story.
- 17:30Speaker 5: He's the witness in this case. But it's still a
- 17:34Speaker 5: Mad Max movie. Visually, everything. I think Mad Max, everyone's like, oh,
- 17:39Speaker 5: Mel Gibson, Mel Gibson. I think what made those movies
- 17:41Speaker 5: so good, Mel Gibson was fine, but George Miller is
- 17:45Speaker 5: what made them awesome. The way he just set up
- 17:48Speaker 5: the universe and the world building. Max was just kind
- 17:51Speaker 5: of a little cog in the hole.
- 17:53Speaker 4: And that's why this one's so good. That visual style
- 17:57Speaker 4: is still there. He needs to make more movies because
- 18:00Speaker 4: he's amazing. And not just babe movies.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Even just like when he's chained to the war boy, uh,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Nicholas Holt's character and that whole action sequence when they're
- 18:12Speaker 1: fighting over, like getting the gun with Furiosa, right. When
- 18:16Speaker 1: they run into her, like the camera just moves with
- 18:19Speaker 1: these actors. And so he's got an awareness of how
- 18:21Speaker 1: to keep all the action on frame, like, and just
- 18:26Speaker 1: move with all these characters and, tell a story while
- 18:28Speaker 1: you're doing it and just make it riveting like you
- 18:31Speaker 1: can't look away and you don't know what's going to
- 18:33Speaker 1: happen next.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Yeah I saw some video online that was really interesting
- 18:38Speaker 5: it was kind of like a behind the scenes of
- 18:40Speaker 5: how he how George Miller shot basically the whole film
- 18:43Speaker 5: and they used that scene as an example of how
- 18:46Speaker 5: he just basically like the reason everyone's like oh why
- 18:48Speaker 5: was it like the action was so easy to follow
- 18:50Speaker 5: you could tell what was going on and everything it's
- 18:52Speaker 5: because he just basically centered everything like any point of
- 18:56Speaker 5: focus any character like that's in the middle of the action,
- 18:59Speaker 5: whereas another movie might have them in the corner of
- 19:01Speaker 5: the frame, and there's an explosion filling up most of
- 19:04Speaker 5: the frame, but you can't see what's... You don't know where...
- 19:07Speaker 5: The character's location just shifts in every cut in the frame,
- 19:11Speaker 5: so you can't... It's hard to track where they are,
- 19:13Speaker 5: so you kind of lose them. But so you... He
- 19:17Speaker 5: cut it in a way he centers the characters. In
- 19:20Speaker 5: the middle of a fight, everything is centered. The characters
- 19:23Speaker 5: never leave center frame, even during a cut, and it
- 19:25Speaker 5: shows them from a... another viewpoint they're still in the
- 19:29Speaker 5: center of the frame so you never lose where they
- 19:31Speaker 5: are so all they did was basically they showed that
- 19:34Speaker 5: whole fight scene but they just put like a little
- 19:36Speaker 5: crosshair so you could like kind of pinpoint where and
- 19:39Speaker 5: like if you watch like Max does not leave or
- 19:41Speaker 5: Furiosa they do not leave the center of the frame
- 19:44Speaker 5: no matter how crazy the cuts get. The cuts are
- 19:48Speaker 5: very fast, but you still see what's happening because they
- 19:51Speaker 5: never leave that center point. It's really interesting. It makes
- 19:54Speaker 5: sense when you think about it, but it's just so simple,
- 19:57Speaker 5: but it's just so logical on how to shoot action.
- 20:00Speaker 4: If only we could teach that to Michael Bay.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think he cares.
- 20:04Speaker 4: A man who cannot shoot an action scene. And all
- 20:07Speaker 4: of his movies are made up of nothing but action.
- 20:08Speaker 5: I think what's going on in his mind is not like,
- 20:11Speaker 5: are they following the action? It's like, what color is
- 20:14Speaker 5: the next Lamborghini, I guess, going to be?
- 20:17Speaker 1: Zero bucks given for Michael Bay.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Pretty much.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Good evening. It's intermission time.

- 22:29Speaker 8: It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen
- 22:39Speaker 8: enough movies.
- 22:40Speaker 3: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 22:44Speaker 2: And now, on with the show. J-R.
- 22:51Speaker 4: B-Day, boy. All right, well, I guess we can head
- 23:15Speaker 4: into the topics of the week here. And it had, again,
- 23:18Speaker 4: another thing had been a really long time since we've
- 23:20Speaker 4: had on was, what's the buzz? And being the weekend
- 23:32Speaker 4: that it is, a lot of weird news and stuff
- 23:36Speaker 4: came out of a certain city. We won't promote them,
- 23:40Speaker 4: I suppose. Nobody's ever heard of this Comic-Con thing. But, yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 4: I figured we would just kind of take a look
- 23:46Speaker 4: at the things that, I'm using air quotes, leaked this weekend.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Which is funny that, I mean, that's one of the
- 23:54Speaker 4: things I'm like, all of this is so pre-programmed and
- 23:58Speaker 4: planned that I'm like, are the people supposedly shooting this
- 24:03Speaker 4: bad thing on their camcorder also on the payroll? Because
- 24:06Speaker 4: I feel like... if they wanted that stuff not to
- 24:09Speaker 4: show up, they could take care of it. Like, or
- 24:11Speaker 4: they would not let 7,000 people in a room with
- 24:15Speaker 4: cell phones and be like, shh, don't tell anybody about this. Like,
- 24:18Speaker 4: you know people are going to do that. So they
- 24:20Speaker 4: either openly know and let people do it or they
- 24:23Speaker 4: put somebody in on the inside. Because I feel like
- 24:25Speaker 4: all this stuff is supposed to get out. That's why
- 24:27Speaker 4: there is a Comic-Con. So I think it's funny that
- 24:29Speaker 4: they still pretend like this leaked so that you can
- 24:33Speaker 4: watch it at home and feel excited.
- 24:34Speaker 1: But, We're just pawns in their game, man.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I like to at least think I'm conscious of it.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Some people may not be, but I like to know
- 24:44Speaker 4: when I'm getting duped.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:47Speaker 5: I feel like... I think that's exclusively with like... I
- 24:51Speaker 5: don't know. I feel like it kind of varies, but
- 24:54Speaker 5: generally that's the truth. Especially if it's like a franchise thing.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:59Speaker 5: I feel like they want to hype it up. They're definitely...
- 25:05Speaker 5: setting all that up on purpose.
- 25:06Speaker 4: They know what they're doing.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Let's give them a terrible quality leak of it, quote-unquote leak,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and then when we release the trailer before whatever movie
- 25:17Speaker 1: people go and see, and it's the nice quality, they'll
- 25:21Speaker 1: enjoy it even more, and then we'll release teasers. Like, okay,
- 25:25Speaker 1: we get it. We already know what's going to happen
- 25:27Speaker 1: in the movie, and we're going to see it anyway.
- 25:29Speaker 1: We're not that dumb.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I think once the movie's shot... and they're going around
- 25:34Speaker 5: showing it at conventions and stuff, I feel like they have, honestly,
- 25:37Speaker 5: they probably have no problem with it getting leaked. I
- 25:40Speaker 5: feel like they think any press is good press in
- 25:43Speaker 5: that case, but I'd say if the movie hasn't started
- 25:46Speaker 5: shooting and they're still maybe casting in something like a
- 25:50Speaker 5: script or an audition tape leaks, something where someone can
- 25:56Speaker 5: get sued and production can get shut down or whatever,
- 26:00Speaker 5: I feel like that's when they get Are they really
- 26:02Speaker 5: trying to cover their ass?
- 26:03Speaker 4: Yeah, at this point, I'm sure they don't want the
- 26:06Speaker 4: actual movie leaking, which happens a little more than it
- 26:09Speaker 4: needs to, and it's kind of killing the industry. But
- 26:11Speaker 4: like the trailers and promo stuff, yeah, I bet none
- 26:14Speaker 4: of that they're going to worry about. If it's going viral,
- 26:17Speaker 4: they could give a rat's ass how it got that way.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Yeah, if they have a problem with it linking online,
- 26:21Speaker 5: then why are they even showing it in a giant
- 26:22Speaker 5: public setting anyway? Is it really that big of an issue?
- 26:25Speaker 4: So I think all that's very deliberate, and I'm fine
- 26:28Speaker 4: with that. As long as we're aware of it, we're
- 26:30Speaker 4: there for the same reason. Do we want to start
- 26:34Speaker 4: with the big one? I mean, I feel like the
- 26:35Speaker 4: world shut down for geeks as Star Wars showed up
- 26:39Speaker 4: in one place at one time.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Real sets.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Practical effects. You've been here, but you don't know this story.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Nothing's changed, really. I mean, everything's changed, but nothing's changed.
- 26:55Speaker 5: That's the way you want it to be, really.
- 27:01Speaker 3: To see the way that technology has evolved.
- 27:05Speaker 8: And yet keeping one foot in the pre-digital world.
- 27:13Speaker 1: It couldn't be more exciting.
- 27:15Speaker 7: It's still surreal.
- 27:17Speaker 3: We are here on day one. Of Star Wars Episode VII.
- 27:23Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:23Speaker 3: How incredible is that?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Eyes welled up.
- 27:27Speaker 4: That's, yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Goosebumps.
- 27:28Speaker 4: That's what I heard.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Goosebumps were everywhere.
- 27:31Speaker 4: I touched base with many of our people on this show,
- 27:34Speaker 4: and I believe the term tears were used several times.
- 27:39Speaker 4: I believe Patrick said all the emotions is what he had.
- 27:44Speaker 4: All of the emotions.
- 27:45Speaker 5: It just now sunk in because, I mean, I just
- 27:47Speaker 5: now saw that video, but it just now sunk in.
- 27:50Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, yeah, C-3PO and R2-D2 are in this movie.
- 27:53Speaker 5: I'm just now like, oh, yeah, the characters.
- 27:56Speaker 4: They're not going anywhere.
- 27:57Speaker 5: They're not going anywhere. They're doing it for real.
- 28:01Speaker 1: That's Peter Mayhew again.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, the same people in those suits.
- 28:05Speaker 4: That's the one I'm impressed with because when they first
- 28:08Speaker 4: started announcing stuff. Warwick Davis.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Did they get him in there?
- 28:11Speaker 5: Warwick Davis, yes. Warwick Davis is coming back.
- 28:13Speaker 4: He's got to be in there somewhere.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Damn, what if they replaced him with Peter Dinklage? That
- 28:16Speaker 1: would be a heartbreak.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Dinklage don't need that shit.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I wonder if somewhere Warwick is shaking his fists like,
- 28:23Speaker 5: damn it.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Dinklage is like GQ cover boy at this point. He
- 28:26Speaker 4: don't need that nonsense. He's a super stud. He don't
- 28:29Speaker 4: need them. He don't need your costumes.
- 28:31Speaker 5: He does not.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But there won't be Ewoks, right? Warwick did other things
- 28:37Speaker 1: besides Ewok.
- 28:38Speaker 5: I don't know. I feel like anything could happen.
- 28:44Speaker 4: The Leprechaun will show up maybe. His other starring role.
- 28:48Speaker 5: That'll be a surprise. That would literally be the last
- 28:51Speaker 5: thing anyone would expect. Warwick Davis is returning for Star Wars.
- 28:57Speaker 1: He's still looking for his gold.
- 29:00Speaker 4: He's coming as his character from Harry Potter. You guys
- 29:02Speaker 4: are cool with that, right? It's all geek stuff.
- 29:05Speaker 1: It's all the same universe. Spoiler alert.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Come whipping in on a Nimbus 3000. It's all good. So,
- 29:14Speaker 4: have that in the middle of a lightsaber battle.
- 29:16Speaker 3: That'll be fun.
- 29:17Speaker 5: I just hope that this new one just finally caves
- 29:21Speaker 5: in and makes the Christmas special canon because they don't
- 29:25Speaker 5: need Lucas's approval, do they?
- 29:27Speaker 4: It is canon, I believe.
- 29:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's not his anymore.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I think it is canon.
- 29:31Speaker 8: It is?
- 29:32Speaker 4: It was, I mean, because it kind of has to be.
- 29:35Speaker 4: It's the first uh appearance of boba fett you can't
- 29:38Speaker 4: rule it out or there's no reason for him to
- 29:40Speaker 4: be an empire so he was in the christmas special
- 29:43Speaker 4: before empire came out so i think it's canon he
- 29:47Speaker 4: doesn't want to re-release it but i think it's canon.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Have you guys seen the christmas.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Special the I've only been lucky enough to see.
- 29:55Speaker 5: The wondrous shit show that.
- 29:56Speaker 4: You can watch online. Some jerk made you watch it
- 29:58Speaker 4: on a giant screen on this window behind us right here.
- 30:01Speaker 5: That was like the most fun. I mean, I'll be honest.
- 30:04Speaker 4: That was our Christmas party one year.
- 30:06Speaker 5: This is bad, but I feel like honestly it's the
- 30:07Speaker 5: most excited I've been while watching a Star Wars quote
- 30:13Speaker 5: unquote movie.
- 30:14Speaker 4: I think you were the only one. Everyone else hated
- 30:16Speaker 4: me that evening.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Oh, I loved it. I just couldn't believe.
- 30:20Speaker 4: They still curse my name.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Does it touch you walk adventures?
- 30:24Speaker 5: Oh, it's way worse.
- 30:26Speaker 4: It's way worse. It's way more nonsensical. Ewok has a story.
- 30:30Speaker 4: This is just a variety show with Wookiees.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 30:35Speaker 1: It's the whole family.
- 30:37Speaker 5: A bizarre Jefferson Starship performance.
- 30:42Speaker 4: A wonderful song from Jefferson Starship.
- 30:45Speaker 5: As a hologram. What a.
- 30:48Speaker 4: It's basically you just watch characters watch things on other screens. Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 4: For like two hours.
- 30:53Speaker 5: It's like a fever dream. You're just like, oh, cool.
- 30:55Speaker 5: I'm going to see like Chewbacca and like, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 5: Han Solo. And it's like, no, it's just like they'll
- 31:02Speaker 5: start a skit or what it seems like a skit.
- 31:04Speaker 5: And then they'll get like a computer or something. And
- 31:06Speaker 5: they're like, let's watch this like computer thing. And it's
- 31:09Speaker 5: just like it cuts to like a cartoon or something
- 31:11Speaker 5: that like. Princess Leia is watching. It's just weird.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Like every 15 minutes it cuts to another thing and
- 31:17Speaker 4: you watch that character watch this thing.
- 31:19Speaker 5: It's like Steve Jobs was like trying to like, I
- 31:22Speaker 5: don't know, like unveil like the early Mac prototypes somehow.
- 31:28Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 31:28Speaker 4: It might be part of it.
- 31:30Speaker 5: It was just ill.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Everybody had little iPads that they were watching stuff on.
- 31:34Speaker 5: And then they just make up this thing where like
- 31:37Speaker 5: the Wookiees have this like kind of cults like cultish holiday.
- 31:41Speaker 4: It's life day and I celebrate it every year.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Life day.
- 31:44Speaker 5: It's not Christmas. It's, I mean.
- 31:46Speaker 1: That's special.
- 31:47Speaker 5: And they all wear these weird like eyes wide shut.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Like red robes.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Oh, Wookiee eyes wide shut.
- 31:53Speaker 5: That's so hot. And just the final sequence where they're
- 31:55Speaker 5: just all in this ceremony and they're just, it's very solemn.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Like they're, it's just, they're, it's the most serious part
- 32:01Speaker 5: of the whole special. It's like the only.
- 32:03Speaker 4: They're holding like candles and shit.
- 32:04Speaker 5: The only part where you're not watching like a cartoon
- 32:06Speaker 5: or like a musical performance. And you're actually seeing, like,
- 32:10Speaker 5: all the cast members there. It's, you know, Mark Hamill,
- 32:13Speaker 5: Princess Leia. I don't think Harrison Ford.
- 32:14Speaker 4: No, Harrison Ford shows up. It's one of those, I
- 32:16Speaker 4: didn't think, I was like, they didn't get him, right?
- 32:18Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 32:18Speaker 4: They got everyone. He's not happy about it. You can
- 32:20Speaker 4: see it. And he's like, well, I got to go
- 32:22Speaker 4: move the Falcon. I'm in the toe zone. I'll be
- 32:24Speaker 4: back later. And, like, he disappears for most of it.
- 32:27Speaker 5: But he's there. It's just so stilted and uncomfortable. And
- 32:32Speaker 5: I don't know. It's just... I mean, you can see
- 32:35Speaker 5: because Lucas, after it was made, he tried everything he
- 32:39Speaker 5: could to have it.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I don't think he had anything to do with it.
- 32:42Speaker 4: The more I watched it that time, I was like,
- 32:44Speaker 4: I think he just signed off and went, all right,
- 32:46Speaker 4: it'll promote the movie. Cool. And I think he just
- 32:48Speaker 4: handed it over. And some network executive slapped this nonsense together.
- 32:52Speaker 4: Because I don't even think it has enough.
- 32:54Speaker 5: I mean, for the longest time, it was harder to
- 32:57Speaker 5: get a hold of. It was harder to get a
- 32:58Speaker 5: hold of than Song of the South or something.
- 33:00Speaker 4: It was just bootleg VHSs for years and years. That's
- 33:04Speaker 4: what kept it alive, really. That's the only reason it's
- 33:06Speaker 4: out there now. Some jerk with a VCR before anybody
- 33:10Speaker 4: else in the country had a VCR taped it.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Some jerk with a VCR.
- 33:15Speaker 5: But I loved it so much. It was... Oh, it
- 33:18Speaker 5: was so awful.
- 33:19Speaker 4: But Episode 7 will not be anything like that, we're assuming.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Based on that footage.
- 33:26Speaker 5: We don't know. Never say never.
- 33:27Speaker 4: It's going to look a little better based on the
- 33:29Speaker 4: footage we just saw. That's what I think is impressive.
- 33:32Speaker 4: As much as I went in a little eerie when
- 33:34Speaker 4: they announced it, and as I've said myself, and you
- 33:38Speaker 4: just said it a little while ago, it's like the
- 33:40Speaker 4: best thing that could have happened was George stepping out
- 33:42Speaker 4: of the situation... JJ, I'm okay with for the most part.
- 33:47Speaker 4: I'm more interested that he's going to turn around and
- 33:49Speaker 4: hand it off again because I'm looking forward to 8
- 33:52Speaker 4: and 9 because that director's awesome.
- 33:55Speaker 5: I like that they're doing that, though. And also, I
- 33:57Speaker 5: feel like in JJ's defense, I'm not a huge JJ
- 34:00Speaker 5: Abrams fan, at least in the movie-making realm. I like
- 34:04Speaker 5: his TV stuff. I feel like that's kind of... That's
- 34:08Speaker 5: just where I like his directing more, I guess. But
- 34:11Speaker 5: I feel like in some ways this... It makes sense
- 34:14Speaker 5: because he's really good when you think about aping other directors.
- 34:18Speaker 4: That's almost all he's done.
- 34:20Speaker 1: That's what he loves his career on.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Has he done anything that wasn't his movies?
- 34:25Speaker 5: Has he done anything that wasn't somebody else's property? The
- 34:27Speaker 5: whole Spielbergian lens flares he does. And Super 8 is
- 34:31Speaker 5: totally a Spielberg movie.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Mission Impossible, he.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Came in on three. Star Trek is obviously someone else's property.
- 34:39Speaker 4: He usually just sort of translates everything. That property for
- 34:43Speaker 4: a new audience.
- 34:44Speaker 1: He's pretty damn good at it.
- 34:45Speaker 4: He is.
- 34:46Speaker 1: His movies are accessible.
- 34:47Speaker 5: I feel like he knows. I feel like he's smart
- 34:52Speaker 5: about it. He's going to know as a directing presence.
- 34:56Speaker 5: He knows that the older movies, when we think about...
- 35:01Speaker 5: They're not really like... showing off like this director is
- 35:05Speaker 5: you know clearly behind it because you can't really tell.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Except the second one the second one well just the
- 35:09Speaker 4: second one just looks like it just looks oh yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 5: I mean it's it's lit better yeah it's it's way
- 35:14Speaker 5: better but i feel like it's he's not going to
- 35:16Speaker 5: be too flashy whether he's not going to try to
- 35:18Speaker 5: put like he's going to try to let.
- 35:19Speaker 4: The story lens flares out i'll give him a nickel
- 35:22Speaker 4: yeah for the love of god.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Stop it just stop it I think he will. I
- 35:26Speaker 5: feel like he's going to let the story kind of
- 35:28Speaker 5: take over.
- 35:28Speaker 4: Well, to me, that's so... Like, again, because he put
- 35:30Speaker 4: it so heavy in Star Trek, I'm like, you can't
- 35:32Speaker 4: have these be the same universe. Like, you need to
- 35:35Speaker 4: separate them, at least with lens flares, not being in
- 35:38Speaker 4: this one.
- 35:38Speaker 5: And it calmed down a little bit with the second
- 35:40Speaker 5: Star Trek.
- 35:40Speaker 4: I don't know. I feel like it was still too much.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 35:43Speaker 4: The first one was out of control, but I feel
- 35:45Speaker 4: like there was still a good amount. Out of control.
- 35:47Speaker 4: It was out of control.
- 35:48Speaker 5: The lens flare.
- 35:49Speaker 4: But I think that's the other thing. Now that George
- 35:51Speaker 4: is out of the way, he's handed it to new people...
- 35:54Speaker 4: And I think it helps like that, you know, JJ
- 35:57Speaker 4: is a fan. And at this point it would be
- 35:59Speaker 4: hard to find a filmmaker who wasn't influenced by these movies.
- 36:03Speaker 4: But I mean, it is one of those, like he
- 36:05Speaker 4: wasn't really a fan of Star Trek and he does
- 36:07Speaker 4: a decent job, but like, okay, what if he loved
- 36:10Speaker 4: the property? Like, so that's kind of what I'm hoping
- 36:12Speaker 4: we get is like, this is his childhood and he
- 36:16Speaker 4: really doesn't want to screw that up. So it's like,
- 36:18Speaker 4: I'm hoping he puts a little extra care into making
- 36:21Speaker 4: sure this is a A solid new start that we
- 36:24Speaker 4: can launch 10 million new movies out of.
- 36:28Speaker 1: And Hamill looks good. Domhnall Gleeson. Love Domhnall Gleeson. Oscar
- 36:32Speaker 1: Isaacs is on those two.
- 36:34Speaker 4: He's in everything now. He's the new go-to. He's great,
- 36:37Speaker 4: Oscar Isaacs.
- 36:38Speaker 5: I feel like they cast the new generation. I feel
- 36:42Speaker 5: like they had a good eye for, oh, these people
- 36:44Speaker 5: are five years from now, they're going to be superstars.
- 36:48Speaker 4: They're kind of already getting there.
- 36:49Speaker 5: This ought to do it.
- 36:51Speaker 4: He already is, but even the kids are kind of like,
- 36:54Speaker 4: give it another year. They'll be huge even without Star Wars.
- 36:58Speaker 4: I think because of that, they're going to be the
- 37:01Speaker 4: new A-listers going into these things. That's cool. And the
- 37:06Speaker 4: practical effects thing. Back to what we said about Fury Road.
- 37:10Speaker 4: It's like the fact that he's not relying on greens.
- 37:13Speaker 4: George did nothing but stand. Literally, those last two There
- 37:18Speaker 4: are no shots without green screen. There's a little bit
- 37:21Speaker 4: in Phantom Menace. There's nothing done, a completely practical shot
- 37:25Speaker 4: in those last two movies. And I'm like, that, to me,
- 37:28Speaker 4: you can feel that watching them. And there's just something
- 37:32Speaker 4: you don't connect with because of that. He's not doing that.
- 37:35Speaker 5: And it's not just that he used green screen, because
- 37:37Speaker 5: I feel like there are certain movies that are entirely
- 37:40Speaker 5: green screen, like Sin City or something. But it works.
- 37:45Speaker 5: You feel like it's compelling. And it's like the green
- 37:49Speaker 5: screen in the prequels, it has this muddy quality to it.
- 37:54Speaker 5: I don't know. It just feels flat or something. You
- 37:58Speaker 5: get no sense of when someone's supposed to be... They're
- 38:04Speaker 5: doing some kind of political trade-off of something with taxes.
- 38:11Speaker 5: I don't know. Something really boring. It's supposed to be
- 38:13Speaker 5: in this giant hall, palace, and it just looks like
- 38:18Speaker 5: a flat cart. You get no depth. I don't know.
- 38:22Speaker 4: There's no feel to it. And that's something with Sin City.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I feel like they... That is so stylized, so comic
- 38:30Speaker 4: book universe. You're supposed to feel like it's a different thing.
- 38:34Speaker 4: But the difference... charm i think in those old star
- 38:37Speaker 4: wars movies was that they were a real world like
- 38:39Speaker 4: as much as it was fantasy and there were weird
- 38:41Speaker 4: things that obviously didn't exist in your world for the
- 38:44Speaker 4: most part tetween was like just a big dumb desert
- 38:47Speaker 4: that you didn't want to be stuck in just like
- 38:48Speaker 4: luke like it felt like a real world that had
- 38:51Speaker 4: these little fantasy elements but the most of it ran
- 38:54Speaker 4: like a regular place that you did kind of you
- 38:56Speaker 4: know you could sort of feel at home at where
- 38:59Speaker 4: you're not going to get that in something super stylized
- 39:01Speaker 4: like sin city so there is a A disconnect there
- 39:04Speaker 4: that I think is okay when you're doing something that's
- 39:07Speaker 4: supposed to be like that. But Star Wars, I think,
- 39:09Speaker 4: works better if it feels like you're part of that universe.
- 39:14Speaker 5: Yeah, and at the same time, it's 2015, and of
- 39:18Speaker 5: course you can't have a space opera action movie without CGI.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Yeah, and when you use it right, it's fine. It's
- 39:26Speaker 4: just not overdone and not badly done.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I think when it becomes a problem when there's, like,
- 39:33Speaker 1: CGI and humans interacting with one another on screen, because
- 39:38Speaker 1: it's like, you know, like, you just know when you're
- 39:40Speaker 1: looking at it, like, that's CGI... unless that's not real
- 39:46Speaker 1: that's not genuine you know it's like the way they
- 39:49Speaker 1: light the actors on the green screen and like the
- 39:51Speaker 1: way they're lit and the way like the the fake
- 39:54Speaker 1: lighting or whatever the computer lighting of the environment they're
- 39:57Speaker 1: in is like it's it looks like it's coming from
- 39:59Speaker 1: a totally different source so you're just seeing this like
- 40:03Speaker 1: brightly like over like i don't know like these backlit
- 40:08Speaker 1: kind of people or something and they're just like popping
- 40:10Speaker 1: out like I don't know.
- 40:12Speaker 4: And that's the thing. I won't totally sell green screen
- 40:15Speaker 4: down the river because they're getting better. That last Planet
- 40:18Speaker 4: of the Apes movie, regardless of whether you like the
- 40:21Speaker 4: story or not, those effects were so good. Those completely
- 40:27Speaker 4: creating those apes.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Were they really?
- 40:29Speaker 4: I feel like the first one was kind of iffy,
- 40:30Speaker 4: but that last one, I feel like the special effects.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Okay, I didn't see the last one.
- 40:34Speaker 4: But I feel like the last one, the special effects
- 40:36Speaker 4: have gotten, even in those couple of years between those two,
- 40:39Speaker 4: the special effects got so much better. That those characters
- 40:42Speaker 4: are real characters. For once, I felt like that. It's
- 40:45Speaker 4: rare that you get that with CG characters.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I think they used blue screen with that one.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Are they back to that? That was what Lucas started
- 40:54Speaker 4: with early.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I think they're going back to blue screen now. I'd
- 40:58Speaker 1: read somewhere, but they nailed it with that.
- 41:00Speaker 4: All thanks to Willow.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Willow.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I believe that was our first blue screen, or one
- 41:04Speaker 4: of the first ones they put a lot of blue
- 41:06Speaker 4: screen work in.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Use the wand.
- 41:08Speaker 4: It's all back to Willow. All right, have we covered
- 41:12Speaker 4: our Star Wars? Have we welled up enough that we
- 41:16Speaker 4: have hope for the future?
- 41:18Speaker 1: We're excited. Maddie, what do you think? Star Wars.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Were you big Star Wars before? See, I didn't watch
- 41:26Speaker 4: them much as a kid, so to me it doesn't,
- 41:27Speaker 4: I don't have the nostalgia. I'm finding that. Like, yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 4: I so assume that everybody's so steeped in it. That's
- 41:33Speaker 4: an interesting discussion, too.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Is I feel like are the people who are like
- 41:37Speaker 5: the most diehard, and you know, I love the Star
- 41:39Speaker 5: Wars movies. I don't consider myself like a diehard Star
- 41:42Speaker 5: Wars guy. Like, I don't, I could not tell you
- 41:45Speaker 5: like the real, like the story, you know, of the
- 41:49Speaker 5: original movies. Like, I know the characters, I know Individual scenes,
- 41:53Speaker 5: I know like the.
- 41:54Speaker 4: It's not overly complicated, I hear you.
- 41:56Speaker 5: But like, you know, when it shows the text at
- 41:58Speaker 5: the beginning of the screen, like scrolling up, I could
- 41:59Speaker 5: not tell you like what that is all, like I
- 42:01Speaker 5: never read that.
- 42:02Speaker 4: No idea.
- 42:03Speaker 5: But I feel like, I wonder if there's a lot
- 42:06Speaker 5: of just, I'm sure this is true, like just a lot,
- 42:09Speaker 5: a huge chunk of people who really love Star Wars
- 42:11Speaker 5: is because they grew up watching like old VHSs of them.
- 42:15Speaker 5: And like seeing a movie like that as a kid,
- 42:16Speaker 5: like really kind of blows your mind because when you're
- 42:19Speaker 5: a kid, everything you see in a movie is real.
- 42:21Speaker 5: And when there's that much kind of like imagination and
- 42:24Speaker 5: sensory overload in a movie and you watch it that
- 42:26Speaker 5: early on and it's like live action with like real people,
- 42:29Speaker 5: it's not like a cartoon. I feel like that just
- 42:31Speaker 5: kind of stays with you. And I feel like, I mean,
- 42:35Speaker 5: that's probably why like people are so protective and like really,
- 42:38Speaker 5: you know, they are, they're keeping such a close eye
- 42:42Speaker 5: because it's like, it's something, you know, watching those old
- 42:45Speaker 5: VHS tapes as a little kid, like that, like is
- 42:48Speaker 5: ingrained in like their movie souls or something. And, they
- 42:52Speaker 5: don't want that to be broken.
- 42:53Speaker 4: That is something i wonder because again dealing with new
- 42:57Speaker 4: generations since then because that's something i noticed working at
- 43:00Speaker 4: the video store like kids would come up with star
- 43:03Speaker 4: wars all day long yeah but they didn't care which
- 43:06Speaker 4: one like they watched one through three just as much
- 43:09Speaker 4: as four through six and some of them liked them
- 43:11Speaker 4: better because they're a little more action they're a little
- 43:13Speaker 4: more animated literally in my thoughts but They didn't have
- 43:17Speaker 4: the problem with it that old guys are just like,
- 43:19Speaker 4: that's not Star Wars. You kids are stupid. Where they're
- 43:22Speaker 4: just like, shut up, I like this. So I'm like,
- 43:24Speaker 4: they don't know not to like it. It's like we
- 43:26Speaker 4: go in so guarded once you're of the generation that
- 43:29Speaker 4: grew up on it. Whereas if it's just been there
- 43:32Speaker 4: since birth, you're like, it's a movie. What do I care?
- 43:34Speaker 4: So you like what you like. So I wonder going
- 43:37Speaker 4: in now, if you take the old people out of
- 43:40Speaker 4: the way and you're dealing with the new generations, if
- 43:42Speaker 4: they're going to come at it totally different. you know,
- 43:44Speaker 4: kind of fresh and be like, well, that's stuff my
- 43:47Speaker 4: grandpa liked. I'm going to watch this episode seven and
- 43:49Speaker 4: see what I think of it and maybe take it
- 43:52Speaker 4: on for its own, you know, whatever this movie is
- 43:55Speaker 4: going to be.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Even just like the expanded storylines like have exploded in
- 44:00Speaker 1: the past 15 years, I feel, you know, especially with
- 44:03Speaker 1: like video game technology kind of pushing the stories for
- 44:08Speaker 1: characters and introducing new races and technologies to the Star
- 44:13Speaker 1: Wars universe. I'm big on all the expanded stuff too.
- 44:16Speaker 5: I love it all.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I can't get enough of it. I've read all, probably
- 44:20Speaker 1: like 25 books, played video games, done the whole shebang.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Except the Star Wars Christmas special. I haven't seen that one.
- 44:28Speaker 1: That's canon.
- 44:29Speaker 4: You have to have that one.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I don't know how I missed the.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Both of them? There are two, you know.
- 44:35Speaker 1: We had them at the movie theater I worked at
- 44:37Speaker 1: and nobody would want to watch them except for me.
- 44:40Speaker 5: And, you know, I feel like even like, because I watched,
- 44:43Speaker 5: I also watched growing up on VHS, the Ewok adventure movies,
- 44:47Speaker 5: and I didn't even, I didn't realize how bad they were. Like,
- 44:49Speaker 5: I love those as well, like equally.
- 44:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:52Speaker 5: So I feel like that almost like proves how like
- 44:54Speaker 5: when you're just, just all that kind of, again, just
- 44:59Speaker 5: all that shit, just like in a movie, and you
- 45:01Speaker 5: just kind of taking it as just real stuff. that just,
- 45:05Speaker 5: that has an effect on you.
- 45:07Speaker 4: And you're a kid, you just like what you like. Like,
- 45:09Speaker 4: you're not biased by, you know, media.
- 45:11Speaker 5: You don't really know, you don't know if you really
- 45:13Speaker 5: hate a movie. Like, you don't know how to hate
- 45:15Speaker 5: a movie really yet.
- 45:16Speaker 4: You don't yet have.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Like, just movies are just this experience that you take
- 45:18Speaker 5: in and absorb and it just like, it just, again, yeah,
- 45:22Speaker 5: just like, is stuck in your memory like constantly that's
- 45:25Speaker 5: why kids like watch like movies like 10 times in
- 45:27Speaker 5: a row yeah.
- 45:28Speaker 4: And you don't yet have snobby friends to make fun
- 45:30Speaker 4: of you when you like something that they think.
- 45:31Speaker 5: Yeah you're not good enough you're not cynical like you
- 45:33Speaker 5: don't see star wars as like a movie that you
- 45:36Speaker 5: know has a person like directing it and not as
- 45:38Speaker 5: like you know like the frame or whatever like you
- 45:41Speaker 5: don't see it that way and i feel like that's
- 45:44Speaker 5: kind of sad once you go back and watch star
- 45:45Speaker 5: wars and you kind of see it as like you
- 45:47Speaker 5: know you know people acting and not like they're not
- 45:50Speaker 5: just characters that, you know, it's just like, oh, that's
- 45:52Speaker 5: Harrison Ford reading a script.
- 45:54Speaker 4: What's weird is I just went back and watched Empire again,
- 45:57Speaker 4: which I don't know the last time I've watched it. Like, again,
- 46:00Speaker 4: I know it so well, I feel like I don't
- 46:02Speaker 4: have to. So I actually sat down and watched it again.
- 46:05Speaker 4: And I think maybe that kicked in because I felt
- 46:07Speaker 4: like I knew every scene so well that it, I
- 46:11Speaker 4: don't know, there was like, it didn't have anything else
- 46:13Speaker 4: to look forward to. So I think maybe that's why
- 46:16Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to these. Like, I'd like to see
- 46:18Speaker 4: something that I don't know every syllable that's coming up
- 46:21Speaker 4: in the next scene. It would be kind of neat
- 46:24Speaker 4: to see something different for once.
- 46:26Speaker 1: There are going to be lines opening night everywhere across
- 46:29Speaker 1: the country. It's going to be huge. I guess they're
- 46:34Speaker 1: expecting it to be the biggest opening, hopefully, since Avatar,
- 46:38Speaker 1: which for some reason that was huge.
- 46:40Speaker 4: Since the last two records we wrote.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that was over my head.
- 46:45Speaker 5: I understand people like, going that first weekend, but after
- 46:48Speaker 5: they saw it, I thought, oh, okay, they're not going
- 46:51Speaker 5: to go back and see that movie again.
- 46:53Speaker 1: My dad saw it like three times. He couldn't get
- 46:55Speaker 1: enough of it.
- 46:56Speaker 4: My mom wouldn't even go see it.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I was like, Dad, why do you keep going to
- 46:58Speaker 1: see this?
- 46:58Speaker 4: That's interesting.
- 46:59Speaker 5: I noticed that too. I feel like older people really
- 47:02Speaker 5: liked Avatar. It was like a massage... like a spa experience.
- 47:06Speaker 5: They didn't care about the story, but they just loved
- 47:09Speaker 5: the jungle and the plant.
- 47:11Speaker 4: I think they were all high.
- 47:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it was just like.
- 47:14Speaker 4: This nice relaxing thing.
- 47:17Speaker 1: It was like they took a weekend and went to
- 47:19Speaker 1: Hilton Head.
- 47:21Speaker 4: It's like a moving Roger Dean album cover, man.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I just got paid $ 15 and watched some Blue Aliens.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Go for it, Dad. Enjoy.
- 47:31Speaker 4: It's crazy. Alright, next up. Batman v Superman.
- 47:37Speaker 6: Today is.
- 47:39Speaker 1: A day for truth.
- 47:45Speaker 8: The world needs to know what happened and to know
- 47:48Speaker 8: what he stands for.
- 47:49Speaker 4: That kind of power is very dangerous.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Let the record show that this committee holds him responsible.
- 48:24Speaker 5: That's how it starts. The fever.
- 48:31Speaker 3: The rage.
- 48:32Speaker 5: That turns good men.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Cruel This spat vigilantes like a one-man raid of terror.
- 48:46Speaker 3: You don't get to decide what the right thing is.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Nobody cares about Clark Kent taking on the Batman.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Do you know the oldest lie in America, Senator?
- 48:56Speaker 4: Devils don't come from hell beneath us.
- 49:01Speaker 3: They come from the sky.
- 49:04Speaker 4: 20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left?
- 49:08Speaker 3: How many stayed that way?
- 49:09Speaker 5: He has the power to wipe out the entire human race.
- 49:25Speaker 3: And we have to destroy it.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Do we want to address... Just why?
- 49:29Speaker 1: Why?
- 49:31Speaker 4: Because it makes money. I just.
- 49:34Speaker 5: I mean, I'm kind of... I'm done. For one thing,
- 49:36Speaker 5: let's take a break with Batman.
- 49:38Speaker 4: And I like Batman, but I'm like, we don't have
- 49:42Speaker 4: to make him for the sake of making him, you know?
- 49:44Speaker 4: Just like, if you have a good story to tell,
- 49:45Speaker 4: tell it.
- 49:46Speaker 5: I think it's funny, too, how, because I'm pretty sure
- 49:49Speaker 5: when they're, maybe, I mean, I could be wrong. Maybe
- 49:51Speaker 5: I'm making this up, but I know when this last
- 49:54Speaker 5: Superman movie came out, like, before they were making it,
- 49:56Speaker 5: I'm sure they were planning on doing, like, another Superman
- 49:59Speaker 5: as a sequel, but when they realized that, like, people
- 50:01Speaker 5: don't really like Superman by himself, they're like, we need
- 50:03Speaker 5: to spice things up.
- 50:05Speaker 1: We gotta put Batman in this or some shit.
- 50:06Speaker 4: What can we do here?
- 50:08Speaker 5: So people will go see the sequel. And, I mean,
- 50:12Speaker 5: I think it's cool that Ben Affleck, I feel like,
- 50:14Speaker 5: you know, I like Ben Affleck. I feel like, I mean,
- 50:19Speaker 5: if he's put in the right role, and I feel
- 50:21Speaker 5: like he would make a solid, like, kind of alternative
- 50:23Speaker 5: character kind of Frank Miller-ish kind of Batman.
- 50:27Speaker 4: I mean, he does have the frame. He's got the jaw.
- 50:30Speaker 4: He looks like a cartoon drawing of Batman.
- 50:31Speaker 5: I do like that they're going all the way to
- 50:33Speaker 5: disassociate from the Christopher Nolan movies, like the vibe. They're
- 50:36Speaker 5: really trying to make him be this kind of, you know,
- 50:40Speaker 5: his armor looks totally different. You know, his Batcave, you know, Alfred.
- 50:46Speaker 5: It's Jeremy Irons, which.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Is very weird.
- 50:49Speaker 4: I didn't see that coming either. I didn't either.
- 50:51Speaker 1: That took me by surprise.
- 50:53Speaker 5: I don't know what to think about Jesse Eisenberg as
- 50:55Speaker 5: a supervillain in a movie.
- 50:57Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 50:57Speaker 5: I can't take that seriously. I mean.
- 51:00Speaker 1: We took up issue with his hair.
- 51:01Speaker 5: His hair.
- 51:02Speaker 4: What did you say, Maggie?
- 51:03Speaker 1: I said he looks like Julia Roberts with that haircut.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:06Speaker 4: He is no Pretty Woman.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Pretty Woman starring Jesse Eisenberg.
- 51:12Speaker 5: I mean, that trailer. I mean, nothing against Jesse Eisenberg. Again,
- 51:15Speaker 5: he's just an actor that I feel like just cast
- 51:16Speaker 5: him right. And he's good.
- 51:18Speaker 4: He's great in the right stuff.
- 51:19Speaker 5: They just like the trailer. If you watch it, it's
- 51:22Speaker 5: just like nothing but like explosions and, you know, a
- 51:25Speaker 5: building collapsing and like the stakes are high and just,
- 51:28Speaker 5: and it cuts to like the bad guy and he's like, hey.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Red capes. The devil comes.
- 51:33Speaker 5: Red capes are coming.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Is he the bad guy in this one? Or are
- 51:36Speaker 4: they just planning ahead two movies? That's what I'm trying
- 51:39Speaker 4: to decide.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I'm like, is that Lex Luthor before he loses all
- 51:43Speaker 1: his hair? Yeah.
- 51:44Speaker 5: I feel like he's clearly wearing a wig. Like, is
- 51:46Speaker 5: it not just, I mean, That would be hilarious if
- 51:48Speaker 5: they're like, no, that's his real hair in the movie, guys.
- 51:51Speaker 5: This is not a joke. He hasn't lost his hair yet.
- 51:53Speaker 4: They made me do this, guys. My hair doesn't normally
- 51:55Speaker 4: look like this. It's curly, I swear. When I watched
- 52:00Speaker 4: it that first time, and I sat there and was like,
- 52:02Speaker 4: when it was done, I was like, is it just me?
- 52:04Speaker 4: And actually, it's just confirming what we've said. We bitched
- 52:08Speaker 4: about it for the last year or so. I'm like.
- 52:10Speaker 4: is it just me or is there way too much
- 52:13Speaker 4: stuff going on in this movie? Like, there's just 14
- 52:16Speaker 4: plot lines going on in the trailer. Like, it's so
- 52:20Speaker 4: much stuff.
- 52:20Speaker 5: Zack Snyder, like, I feel like he's not really... He's still, like,
- 52:25Speaker 5: I don't know. There's sometimes, because I know a lot
- 52:27Speaker 5: of cases, there's a lot of people who are music
- 52:28Speaker 5: video directors who go on to be, like, great directors. Like,
- 52:31Speaker 5: David Fincher is, like, the most obvious example. But I
- 52:33Speaker 5: feel like he's still directing music videos. He doesn't... He
- 52:37Speaker 5: doesn't invest... I don't know, he doesn't seem to put
- 52:42Speaker 5: emphasis or that much interest on the story. He still
- 52:48Speaker 5: cares about style more than anything else.
- 52:50Speaker 4: Most definitely.
- 52:52Speaker 1: He just directs long trailers. That's what he does. The
- 52:56Speaker 1: best part about Watchmen was the trailer, in my opinion.
- 52:59Speaker 4: The intro, the little opening title sequence is awesome. And
- 53:02Speaker 4: then from there, you get into his weird... to me
- 53:06Speaker 4: he's just he's got so much agenda of what he
- 53:10Speaker 4: thinks is cool and what he likes to focus on
- 53:13Speaker 4: and like he will take whatever the property is and
- 53:15Speaker 4: kind of cram his personal thing into it.
- 53:19Speaker 7: So his heart's in the right place that's what yeah
- 53:23Speaker 7: i don't i feel like he really does want to
- 53:24Speaker 7: make you know a good movie he's really trying to
- 53:26Speaker 7: be respectful to the you know, the mythos or whatever.
- 53:30Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know.
- 53:31Speaker 4: I don't think he's... I'm not a comic.
- 53:33Speaker 5: Book guy, so maybe he's... I guess he's not, but.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Well, I just feel like he doesn't get the Superman
- 53:37Speaker 4: mythos at all.
- 53:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like he just wanted to do another, like, loud,
- 53:42Speaker 5: kind of visually crazy... And I feel like, you know,
- 53:47Speaker 5: he wanted to have, like, he saw what Nolan did
- 53:49Speaker 5: with Batman. He's like, oh, I want people to take
- 53:51Speaker 5: my superhero movies as seriously as that.
- 53:53Speaker 4: I want it to be dark.
- 53:54Speaker 5: Or bring him on as a producer. I'll have, like, weird, like,
- 53:58Speaker 5: Terrence Malick-y like shit that doesn't belong and just is
- 54:03Speaker 5: out of place.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I mean, I will say, because I watched that first
- 54:07Speaker 4: Superman movie and I was just like, what the hell?
- 54:09Speaker 4: And again, with the mythos, like the Superman could care
- 54:12Speaker 4: less about humans. He's just letting people get killed right
- 54:16Speaker 4: and left. He never makes any attempt to move this
- 54:19Speaker 4: huge fight knocking down buildings away from the buildings. Like
- 54:22Speaker 4: he's constantly just taking out human beings right and left.
- 54:26Speaker 4: And then all of a sudden he cares about those
- 54:27Speaker 4: like two that he decides to save and kill a guy.
- 54:30Speaker 4: But I'm like, OK, all that's ridiculous. It makes no
- 54:33Speaker 4: sense in that mythos. But I'm like, if all of
- 54:36Speaker 4: it really like I don't give Zack Snyder this much credit.
- 54:39Speaker 4: But if all of that was really build up to
- 54:41Speaker 4: get to this, because it seems like that's what the
- 54:44Speaker 4: plot line to this new movie is, is like. this
- 54:47Speaker 4: guy's a jerk and like he just took out all
- 54:49Speaker 4: these people he destroyed our city he's not here to
- 54:53Speaker 4: help us if that was really part of the plan
- 54:56Speaker 4: i don't think he's that clever but that would be
- 54:58Speaker 4: kind of genius like if he made an entire movie
- 55:01Speaker 4: that was just to be set up so that he
- 55:03Speaker 4: could do this other idea that would be pretty cool
- 55:06Speaker 4: if he made it pay off and the second one
- 55:08Speaker 4: was going to be impressive I don't think any of
- 55:10Speaker 4: this is true. But as theories go, I would give
- 55:15Speaker 4: him credit. It still doesn't mean I want to sit
- 55:16Speaker 4: there for another two hours and rewatch that movie, but
- 55:20Speaker 4: it would be interesting if he made an entire movie
- 55:22Speaker 4: just to piss off fans so that he could turn
- 55:24Speaker 4: around and do something totally different in that second movie.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Again, I don't... Even just to make the story believable,
- 55:30Speaker 1: all you got to do is say, like, to get
- 55:33Speaker 1: people to hate Superman, charge them a Superman tax because
- 55:36Speaker 1: he breaks everything.
- 55:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Who's going to pay for it? Well, I guess we will.
- 55:41Speaker 1: What other option do we have? And he could wipe
- 55:44Speaker 1: us out, which he pretty much is doing already.
- 55:47Speaker 5: I feel like he probably kills a bunch of people
- 55:50Speaker 5: in that first movie.
- 55:51Speaker 4: A lot.
- 55:52Speaker 5: They even say it in the trailer, he's responsible for
- 55:55Speaker 5: all these. I'm like, geez.
- 55:57Speaker 4: He has to be. Watch this. That's what I think
- 56:00Speaker 4: is funny in this new trailer is how much I
- 56:03Speaker 4: feel like they're again, trying to tie these fantasy worlds
- 56:07Speaker 4: into the real world. That scene with Bruce Wayne running
- 56:10Speaker 4: into the building collapse, I'm like, that's footage from 9-11.
- 56:13Speaker 4: They're tapping into real world and people really dying. It's weird.
- 56:20Speaker 4: It's kind of a weird area for them to be
- 56:22Speaker 4: doing a superhero movie and tapping that closely to this event.
- 56:27Speaker 4: But again, they know what they're doing. We're going to
- 56:30Speaker 4: tie this to a real world thing. Only, you know,
- 56:33Speaker 4: we're going to make it a silly superhero movie. But
- 56:35Speaker 4: they wanted to make it realistic. So that scene, to me,
- 56:39Speaker 4: is just straight up 9-11 footage that they've turned into
- 56:42Speaker 4: a superhero.
- 56:42Speaker 1: And that's Snyder trying to be dark, I think. He
- 56:45Speaker 1: shows a cadaver and a body bag in the trailer.
- 56:49Speaker 1: For some reason, that was an image that stuck out
- 56:51Speaker 1: to me.
- 56:52Speaker 4: It was Michael Shannon. I'm assuming that's what it looked like.
- 56:55Speaker 4: I was like, did he come back just to be
- 56:57Speaker 4: a dead guy?
- 56:58Speaker 1: I thought it looked like Stone Cold Steve Austin.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:01Speaker 1: No, not Stone Cold.
- 57:03Speaker 4: That's his new biopic he's doing.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:07Speaker 4: Michael Shannon is that good. He can do that.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Stone Cold could beat up Superman. Not even kidding.
- 57:14Speaker 4: Somebody needs to. He needs to be stopped. Batman, I
- 57:17Speaker 4: guess we're looking at you. I don't know. There's just
- 57:20Speaker 4: so much going on in that trailer.
- 57:21Speaker 5: And then they show them, like, fighting. And, you know,
- 57:26Speaker 5: it's obvious. I mean, I feel like why is it...
- 57:28Speaker 5: I mean... Superman can kill Batman in like a second
- 57:33Speaker 5: if he wanted to.
- 57:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 5: But I don't know. I don't know if it's going
- 57:37Speaker 5: to be like, oh, he's holding back because he doesn't
- 57:39Speaker 5: really want to kill Batman if that's what it's going
- 57:41Speaker 5: to be about. Which is, if that's the case, that's
- 57:43Speaker 5: even dumber because I don't care to watch that. Like,
- 57:46Speaker 5: that's just a whole movie of Superman just pussyfooting around
- 57:51Speaker 5: and like Batman just.
- 57:52Speaker 4: Getting all upset. I think in the old incarnations, like
- 57:56Speaker 4: in the comics and I think even in the animated
- 57:58Speaker 4: shows for a while, they would have them do that.
- 58:00Speaker 4: And Batman is kind of smart. So immediately he's like, oh,
- 58:04Speaker 4: I need to go eat some kryptonite. And he would
- 58:06Speaker 4: build a suit with kryptonite in it and beat the
- 58:08Speaker 4: hell out of Superman. If they're not going to do that,
- 58:10Speaker 4: it kind of doesn't make any sense. Like in.
- 58:13Speaker 1: You know, Dark Knight Returns. I went back and re-read
- 58:16Speaker 1: Dark Knight Returns after they announced this was happening. I
- 58:18Speaker 1: was like, how the fuck did that fight go down?
- 58:19Speaker 1: I don't remember. So, like, you know, going back and
- 58:22Speaker 1: it's like he's got... Batman has this super suit that
- 58:26Speaker 1: protects him from Superman who's obviously going to throw him
- 58:29Speaker 1: through a bunch of skyscrapers. He's got, like, kryptonite all
- 58:33Speaker 1: over the place. And, you know, he's smart. He's a tactician.
- 58:36Speaker 1: He knows how to fight. He knows his enemies. That's, like,
- 58:39Speaker 1: something that I remember him saying in the comic book.
- 58:41Speaker 1: He's like, know your enemies. But that's Frank Miller doing...
- 58:44Speaker 1: cool batman comics.
- 58:45Speaker 5: Not sex yeah i mean i feel like the only
- 58:50Speaker 5: well to me here's the thing here's where i kind
- 58:52Speaker 5: of as far as like the comic book universe where
- 58:56Speaker 5: i just kind of check out is when it kind
- 58:58Speaker 5: of gets into like pitting these super superheroes against each
- 59:01Speaker 5: other and like having universes like all you know these
- 59:05Speaker 5: universes cross and like people with like very you know
- 59:10Speaker 5: unfairly just very unbalanced you know powers are fighting each
- 59:14Speaker 5: other like i don't know it's it's i can't buy
- 59:17Speaker 5: into like it's like it's like people who like that
- 59:19Speaker 5: i feel like are also people who like to play
- 59:22Speaker 5: like would you rather games or something i'm just.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Like i don't care like again that That's why I
- 59:28Speaker 4: was so turned off by that whole Superman movie. It's
- 59:30Speaker 4: just indestructible guys throwing each other through buildings. It doesn't
- 59:33Speaker 4: hurt anybody except humans. They're not getting hurt one way
- 59:37Speaker 4: or the other. So to pit it against something like Avengers,
- 59:41Speaker 4: my favorite people in the Avengers are the humans that
- 59:43Speaker 4: have no powers and are like, we're stuck fighting with
- 59:46Speaker 4: Thor who's kind of a god but I have a pistol.
- 59:49Speaker 4: You know, I'm like, so I'm like, I'm way more
- 59:51Speaker 4: interested in Black Widow because she's a real person.
- 59:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm happy when a superhero movie like sticks to
- 59:56Speaker 5: the superhero and like they don't have cameos of other
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: like comic book characters.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: Well, then you came to the wrong movie.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: And that's what I hate about these Marvel movies. Like,
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like a lot of the reason
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: I didn't see the new Avengers, but I read some
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: complaints online that I thought made sense. Like, and what
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: they were arguing was, like, why it didn't, like, they
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: said it was good, it was, you know, well-made, and
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Joss Whedon did a good job, but the stakes weren't, like,
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: where they should have been at that point. Solely because
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: of the Marvel kind of machine of we got to
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: keep this going, this person can't die, this person can't die.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: I like the new one, but he, I mean, he
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: just has so much to do in one movie. And
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: to me, I think he balances it pretty good.
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: I hate that checklist that they have, every director who
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: does a Marvel movie has to go, like... Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: To me, I feel like as good as you can
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: work around it, sure, I mean, that's true to any
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: big Hollywood franchise. I mean, that's always been the case.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: But I feel like there's Marvel, there's something super restrictive
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: about how their movies have to be made that just,
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: I don't know, they just don't, I don't know, they
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: don't have really that much impact, I feel like. Even like,
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: they don't even have, in some ways, like there's so well,
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: a lot of like the Avengers, I liked it. it
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: was so well made and like so well put together,
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: but it had no like flaws or interesting kind of,
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: I feel like, you know, I would have liked it
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: better if it took risks and like had weird flaws
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: and stuff in it.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Like, I feel like the flaw with those is always
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: the villain because they spend like, especially when it's the
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: ones that Joss is doing, he spends so much time
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: building our characters and their relationships are so well represented.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: They just like, Oh, and we have some, we have
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: to fight something at the end, you know? So I
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: mean like, I feel like the, even in this new one, like,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Spader's great, but, like, he still takes a backseat to, like,
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: all the other interaction with the characters because that's so
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: much better. Like, that stuff's way more interesting. So I
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: think even he knows that, and he's like, oh, all right,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: and then we'll do the big fight scene. But, like,
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: the villain always kind of takes a backseat to our
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: main characters because the relationships are more interesting.
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: I think these movies are just very reflective of just, like,
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: the current generation of content overload and how that's just
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: kind of how, I guess, like, us older, crabby guys,
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: I guess, just, you know... piss and moan about too
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: many people, you know, too many plot lines, too many characters,
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: and just, I feel.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: Like, Captain America wore a unitard.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but I feel like there's just a whole audience
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: that's watching them, and, like, that's just, that's fine, like,
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: that's how they, that's just how movies are, and it's
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: not a problem, so.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: And that's fine, you know, Marvel knows that people are
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: going to come to these movies, like, and my, I
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: didn't see the newest Avengers, because I was like, I
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: already know that there's going to be two more, like,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: you know, I want to go when I know that, like,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: people stand a chance of getting killed off, like major characters,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: because that's what keeps things interesting in these storylines is like, well,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: what if Black Widow got the black lung or something?
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: What if we lose her?
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: Don't kill her because she needs a spinoff movie.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Yeah, she's pretty great.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: I think they're going to kill off Robert Downey Jr.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: because he's pretty much out after these other movies.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he's going to clock out.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: Again, I feel like, I feel like Whedon would have
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: killed people off sooner. I feel like he would have
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: killed one or two characters in that first one. In fact,
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: he does, and Marvel kind of found the loophole and
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: worked around it. But he would have killed more people,
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: I think, in that first one. But again, he's got
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: to work sort of within their parameters and the planning
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: of 14 other movies. But yeah, if it were just
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: his property, I think he would have taken out a
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: couple people, even in that first movie.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: And did we get a Harry Dean Stanton cameo?
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: We should in every movie.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Every movie ever should get Harry Dean standing.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Except he doesn't want to leave the bar. He's got
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: to hang out at Dantana's. There's only so many cameos
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: he can pull off.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: Bring a mobile green screen in the bar. Just like
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: he'll be sitting down.
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: On a stool. Maybe he'll be in the new one
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: and Superman will go blasting through the building and kill
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: a bunch of other people. But Harry Dean will still
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: be sitting at the bar just drinking and ignoring them all.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: I'd be up for that. If he has to be
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: in that weird movie.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: That would be a great guest to have on.
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that would be awesome.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: I saw him. I was very near him.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Did you high five him?
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: Nah, I might have.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: Knocked him down. I don't know if he'd be into
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: high five.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I don't know if he could get it up that tough.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: He's an old dude, man. He was hanging in there.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: He's this hell of a trooper. So yeah, I don't know.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: That's my take on that trailer is there's, in the
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: Batman V Superman, there's way too much going on. Like what,
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: how do you even work Wonder Woman into that? Like,
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: There's already too much story with Batman and Superman. How
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: do you also work Wonder Woman in? They're already working
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: in Aquaman at some point. I'm like... Oh, wait.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: That's going to happen?
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. They already cast... What's his name? Wait, who?
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: Have you not seen those pictures?
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: Aquaman.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: Who can speak to fish? Maybe for like a boomerang cartoon.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: I know. To me, that's of all the people for
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: them to focus on.
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: The picture's ridiculous because they're really trying to make it serious.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: If they're going to make it serious.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: It makes you want to laugh at it even more
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: because it's Aquaman.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: They need Megalodon or something down there with him. I
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: never understood why Aquaman... Fish can't jump out of the
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: water and... Oh, Khal Drogo?
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: There you go, Jason.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: Oh, the dude from Game of Thrones guy.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: See, I was trying to think if he was on there.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Wait, now the game has changed.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Now you're on board.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I might have a little bit more faith in this.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Because he looks pretty cool there. He's kind of doing
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: a Dwayne the Rock Johnson look.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: I'm surprised they didn't cast the Rocks.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: And is that Batman Superman behind him?
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you got to have the double logo going on.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: That's the new thing.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: So they're going to work him in here.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: And he's going to be like Thor of the sea.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Like, how do you... I don't
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: understand how you get all of this in one plot
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: that makes sense. And again, like, you can call out
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: the Marvel movies for doing that, but they also took
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: like five movies first before they brought them all together.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: They're trying to do it all in one movie. Like,
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: that makes no sense to me.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: So.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: I guess DC and.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: DC's just trying to play catch up. They're like, Marvel's
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: doing a really cool thing here, putting all their stuff
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: in the same property. We better hurry up. So... They
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: don't want to invest, you know, seven or eight years
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: into planning this. They want to knock it out in
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: one summer, which is kind of a bad idea.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I don't see that. Going over so well. But I'll
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: go see it anyway because that's what we do here.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: So.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Begrudgingly go see movies and then get some prize sometimes.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: I guess we're on the superhero role because that was
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: just about all the stuff that came out after Star
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: Wars was all superheroes.
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: So Deadpool?
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: Do we want to address the Deadpool?
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: What if I told you we can make you better?
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: You're a fighter.
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: We can give you abilities most men only dream of.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Make you a superhero. You just promise you'll do right
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: by me so I can do right by someone else.
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: And please don't make the super suit green or animated.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I think I don't have anything to say about that.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: We all just are just like, we can.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: That's the thing. It's a fine line because it's funny
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: how much Deadpool has jumped into the mainstream because I
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: don't think most people knew who the hell he was
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: four or five years ago. Even when he was in
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: that other Wolverine movie like I think most people that
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: weren't hardcore comic fans had no idea who Deadpool was
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: and like now I see so much Deadpool merchandise like
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: just in like regular like chain stores there's just a
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: whole section of Deadpool and I'm like where is this
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: coming from because we don't even have a movie to
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: tie him to yet officially so I'm like it's weird
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: that it's taken off this big in this mainstream for
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: something that they really haven't even done the movie and
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: really just sort of confirmed, okay, yeah, we're officially doing it.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: Here's a trailer. Instead of that leaked footage they did
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: last year.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: I know there are a lot of Marvel animated shows
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: and maybe Deadpool plays a big part. I don't watch
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: any of those.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: See, I think there are hardcore Marvel fans that have
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: loved him for years. He's definitely got a following, but again,
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: not like the mainstream stuffed characters following that he suddenly
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: has that I'm like, this is weird. So it's like,
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: It's kind of going to work, at least when that
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: movie comes out. There's enough push for Deadpool something that
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: the opening weekend will probably be decent. Now, whether or
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: not they do a good job, I don't know. Watching that,
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: I'm like.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I think it's just going to be another.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: It's a fine line. Because they're being... And that's what
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: they gave him shit for with the Wolverine thing. They
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: sewed his mouth shut. The one thing he's known for
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: is making his smart-ass comments. And they sewed his mouth shut.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: And it made no sense. And it's stupid. Which, granted,
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: most of what goes on in that Wolverine movie is
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: really stupid. But they aren't doing that now. They're giving
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: him the freedom to jump around and say funny things.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: which is the entire selling point of the comic, so
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: I'm told. I don't really read it, but that's what
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: he does. That's why you have this character, so he
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: can break the fourth wall, look at you, the reader,
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: and say something funny. So they're kind of sticking with that,
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: but I'm like, it's a fine line. Some of their
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: jokes are so.
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: Lame like I'm like it's I'm like are we just
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: watching Ted 2 at this point like they're so like
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: it's just base humor like I don't know maybe that's
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: what we're.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Going for but Ryan Reynolds is gonna be quirky yeah
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: his head looks like an avocado okay.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: That's my other question of things that blew up out
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: of nowhere who would have ever seen TJ Miller being
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: like the giant properties that he's in now he's funny
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: I like him as a comedian but The weird things
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: he's popping up in now as an actor, it's very strange.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: And that was one of those, I'm watching this trailer.
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: Like, really?
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: T.J.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: Miller is playing this role?
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: At first I was like, is he Deadpool? Because I
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: saw him on Twitter and he was doing all this
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Deadpool shit. Because I didn't know it was going to
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: be Ryan Reynolds. I just literally yesterday found out about
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: the movie. And I was like, that's an interesting... I mean,
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: I might actually see just because that's so weird. And
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: he I feel like he's actually he's genuinely funny.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: He can be.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: He's funny and like just friends. Like in certain capacities,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: you know, he thrives.
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: Come on. Are you guys a girl in a pizza place?
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: No, I'm talking about T.J. Miller. I'm sorry. Yeah, because
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: I thought he was going to be Deadpool. But I
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: think like if he was Deadpool, that'd be interesting.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: Definitely be a different movie.
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: It'd be very different.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: I don't know i feel like it's yeah there's a
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: fine line on this could be this could work just
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: the way they're trying to make it work or it
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: could fall flat on its face and just be dumb
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: for the sake of dumb jokes and like you really
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: gotta you gotta work that balance between the jokes and
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: the action and like i'm sure the action will be
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: great but the jokes are what could kill it like
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: if it's If it's not funny and it's not the
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: right kind of funny, it's going to fall flat.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Motherfucker, you are hard to look at. Like a testicle
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: with teeth.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: You look like Freddy Krueger face-fucked a topographical map of Utah.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: So do we want to move on to Suicide Squad?
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: It's taken some work, but I finally have them.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: The worst of the worst.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: Where?
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Let's just say I put them in a hole and
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: threw away the hole.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: There's rumors, Amanda, that some of them have.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: abilities oh yeah i have seen things maybe superman was
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: some kind of beacon for them to creep back from
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: the shadows i.
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: Want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: people on the planet who i think can do some good.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: They're bad guys exactly and if anything goes wrong we
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: blame them we have built-in deniability what makes you think
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: you can control.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Them Suicide Squad.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: Somebody's pretty excited about the Joker, I hear.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: One or two people talked about that.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: You want to just break right into the Joker action?
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Let's just go right to that. Those teeth is.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: They nailed it with him.
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: He's got.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: Forward to it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Just to start off right there, I think Suicide Squad's
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: going to be awesome. I think Jared Leto looks great.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Margot Robbie is a Robbie. I don't know exactly how
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: you say her name. She's gorgeous even as this evil harlequin.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: I do feel like that is perfect casting. I just
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: saw her in Wolf of Wall Street, and I feel
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: like she'd make a great Harley Quinn.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: She's like 23, 24 years old. She's super young. She's
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: very young, yeah.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: I think that is probably going to sell this for
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: most people. Again, that aren't already hardcore comic fans.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: There's a lot of Harley Quinn fans.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: There's a lot of Harley Quinn fans, and there's never
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: been a version of Harley Quinn. She wasn't even a
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: comic character. She was created on Batman the Animated Series.
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: And then it just snowballed, and people loved her character.
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: Which is a testament to that show, by the way. Which, again,
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: that's one of the best.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: Which is a great, great show.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: One of the best, I won't even say animated shows,
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: just best shows ever written. I put it above the
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Nolan Batman movies. It's so solid.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: I really do. That's a fair assessment.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: It's just a great TV show, period.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: And it's available online now.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: I think, for a long time, yeah, they didn't put
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: it out. I don't know what their licensing or whatever,
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: but yeah, I think they're finally getting around to, because
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: they did the box sets there for a while, too, so.
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: But yeah, I think that's one of those that I
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: think it's been building, and her fan base is so
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: huge now. You can't go to a convention without seeing
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: 40 or 50 Harley Quinns. She is the favorite, especially
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: in the girl. There's a huge geek girl culture now,
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: and it's like they don't have a ton of girls.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: So the fact that we're finally getting a live version
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: of Harley Quinn, I think a lot of people are
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: going to go just to see her.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: Now, was there a teaser release for Suicide Squad? Okay.
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: Well, I mean, they've done a weird... teaser before, didn't they?
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: But this was like a different one that they did,
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: I think, just for Comic-Con. And it's got way more
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: footage on it.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: And of course, everyone wants to see Jared Leto as
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: the Joker. There's been all kinds of stuff floating around,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: which may or may not be preordained and placed in
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: certain spots for a reason. But just looking at him
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: coming down at the camera, it's a new Joker. It's
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: like a mix of the Arkham... video game jokers along
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: with ledger's joker and it's gonna be leto's joker it's.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: A little to me that that's what i was gonna
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: give him credit it does seem like they're going an
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: entirely different direction i don't even feel like it's the
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: heath ledger version as much as maybe the old animated
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: like i feel like maybe it's more mark hamill than
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: anybody because he's kind of like the ultimate joker like
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: he really is it's a shame there was never any
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: way for him to physically play it because he never
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: really even when he was young it would have been
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: weird casting visually, but he nails that voice so perfectly
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: that I feel like that's more than anything maybe what
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: they're tapping into with this new version.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I mean, Leto just looks visceral and evil, and I'm
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing what he does with it.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: He is kind of a crazy person, but when he
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: gets into the right role, he works. He seems like
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: a strange dude in the real world, but he will
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: immerse himself in a role, and he can nail it
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: on occasion. I don't know most of them, other than
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Will Smith. Like a lot of the other ones, I don't.
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: Is he in it?
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: I didn't know if he was going to be in
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: it or not.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: But the rest of them, I'm like either they're newer
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: actors or I'm just not that familiar with the character. Again,
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: I didn't read Suicide Squad, so I'm kind of catching
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: up with the story itself and trying to piece together
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: how they're going to put all these characters into the deal.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: So it looks interesting, but I can't gauge it because
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: I don't know those characters near as well in their
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: other form. I don't know. Is it a good lineup
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: from what you can tell?
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Well, I'd only watched it twice, the trailer. And from
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: what I can tell, they're assembling the general gist of
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: what's going on as far as in the comic universe goes.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: And you know there's this whole political aspect to.
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: It with.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: The woman at the beginning. They're having that dinner. And
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: she's like, you know, after the fiasco with Superman... Like,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: let's just have a group of the most, the bad guys,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: like the worst of the worst. And then that way, like,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: we'll just let them run rampant and we don't have
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: to take any responsibility for what they do.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: That was another moment when I was just like, I
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: wish I could give it more credit. Because, like, the
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: fact that it could also be spinning off this whole
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: other movie based on, like, from this point on, everything
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: in the DC movie universe changes because Superman's such a jerk.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: And he just annihilates people that everything from that point
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: in the universe changes. And all these different characters and
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: movies have to come into play because of that first
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: dumb movie. So again, I wish I could give him
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: that much credit. Maybe at this point that's what they're
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: doing with it, whether he meant to or not. But
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: it does seem like they're building these two new things
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: coming out in the DC Universe. specifically around that whole incident.
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: I feel like they're just finally acknowledging that not really
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: that people like Superman. Just as a superhero, I feel
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: like we'll just make him into just a shitty villain,
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: sort of.
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: Because that's more, you clearly would rather see that than,
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: you know, being.
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: In his own movie. To me, it's always hard to
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: get on board with him because he's so omnipotent, you know?
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: It's like there's no struggle there. I feel like the
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: only way it ever worked in those old movies is
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: because Christopher Reeve is awesome.
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: Yeah, and Richard Donner.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: He sold that character.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: Those goofy, like the second Superman, like the Richard Donner cut.
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: I feel like that is the ultimate Superman experience. That
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: is what it should be every time.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: It's fun, and it's light to some extent, and he's
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: just so damn charming as Superman that he makes it work,
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: where they've handed it to two guys since then, and
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: both times I'm like, I don't care about that guy.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: I'm just like, I don't care. So I think that's
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: part of it, is unless you can carry... all of
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: the nonsense that comes with being Superman and being all
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: powerful and like, you're just not that interesting a character.
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: That's the sad part about it. It's like Bruce Wayne,
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: it's an interesting messed up dude. Yeah. Superman just can
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: do whatever the hell he wants. He's all powerful. Like,
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: I don't know. That's, I think that's a huge hurdle
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: to have to get over when doing anything with Superman.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: So it would be more interesting to just turn him
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: into a villain and have all of the people fighting
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: against him in the DC universe, which they're all going
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: to try to cram into one movie.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: That Superman, he's so easily influenced and malleable.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: So, is there anything we left out in this?
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: As far as superhero movies?
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: Or any of the recent stuff that's come out.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: It's how the teaser for Green Inferno.
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: I've heard pretty interesting things it sounds as much as
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: I've kind of hit and miss with him as a
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: director this is the most interesting thing he's done.
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: In a while and I'm not like the biggest Eli
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: Roth fan but I've thought like based on those hostile
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: movies like the best thing about him was that he
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: was a good director like he needs to stop but
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: the thing is well yeah but the thing is this
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: trailer didn't look like I mean it looked like It
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: didn't look on this. Well, no, I was going to
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: say it didn't quite look on the level as like
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: the hostile. I don't know, maybe because it's outside. It's
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: in the jungle and they're like under harsher conditions. And
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: I'm just kind of gauging over like the bits and
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: pieces that were in there.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: It just looked like it was him trying to do
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: something else.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: I feel like maybe it's intentional trying to kind of
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: have that kind of schlocky kind of.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: I think he's going a Hannibal.
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: Documentary look.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Hannibal Holocaust kind of thing.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: Hannibal Hanukkah?
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: Hannibal Hanukkah. Wait, that's the new Christmas special. I think
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: that's the new Star Wars.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Star Wars, Hannibal Hanukkah.
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: Life Day has now become Hannibal Hanukkah.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: But so is it basically just, I mean, it's fairly straightforward.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Just plane crash, cannibals. What I'd understood was that it
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: was like people were trying to go volunteer and help
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: out on an island. because they thought like these people
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: needed their help or it's like a mission, like with
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: a church or some type of affiliation like that. And
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: this was just based off one article that I read.
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: And then, you know, they think that they're going and
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: are going to help these people. And then they're like, actually,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: we're just going to eat you, which I'm like, that's easy.
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Like, let's do it.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: I'm off.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: I've already got like the weird feeling in my stomach
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: when you see people just like getting handed over crowds
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: and you're like, Oh, that person's going to get eaten
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: by another person.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: Yeah. I'm just glad that he didn't go the found
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: footage route because I feel like any other director would
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: have done that.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: I'm so sick of that. Really.
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: I mean, I saw The Sacrament, the Ty West movie.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: That's what I think is the downfall of that one.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: It sucks because I really like him as a director.
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: I think he's an interesting filmmaker.
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: I do too.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: But I feel like he's just better than that. I
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: feel like he was trying to do something with it.
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: He was trying to actually make it like it's a
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: news crew documentary. But it still wasn't as effective as
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: just a regular.
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: And I think for that one, just while we're on it,
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: I think where it veers off is because it follows
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: too close to a story we all already know. I
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: felt like he was almost doing a whole different... kind
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: of weird, go to another country, be sucked into this
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: cult kind of thing, and then it just becomes the
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: one everybody already heard of in the 70s. It almost
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: exactly follows the Jonestown story. It's not subtle about it
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: at all. Yeah, I was like, he just completely does Jonestown.
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: Why wouldn't you just do something else? I felt like
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: midway in, we were in the middle of something else,
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: and we did not know what was going to happen.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: That would have been way more intense. If he would.
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: Have done something totally different. Tastefully questionable. Yeah.
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: But if he had actually been like, this is a
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: movie about Jonestown.
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: Or just do that, really. But I kind of liked
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: the first half of it. I liked those characters, and
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: I liked they were midway in, and I'm like, they
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: are into something, and shit's going to go wrong. And
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, and it's the most conventional thing in
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: this cult story. I was like, yeah, of course it's
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: going to do that. I wish he would have done
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: something original with it.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: I mean, he's good at that movie... nailed making me
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: feel unsettled but that's what it did you know i
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: thought it was great i like ty west and i
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: was unsettled by like the story and the way it
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: was shot and that's what you know i think it
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: was meant to do but you know i'll choose nick
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: cage wicker man over it.
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: Oh god not that i saw that one in theaters
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: not the bees i can't remember why but.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Oh man i need to get is that out on
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: blu-ray i need to get a blu-ray copy of that god.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: Put your request in now. It better be. Okay, the
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: only other one I was going to go into, only
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: because they released this, this wasn't even Comic-Con related. It
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: was just this past week they released the first shot
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: of the cast of Ghostbusters.
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: I'm looking forward to it. I really am.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: Melissa McCarthy.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: I was getting the, and that's, I don't know. That
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: was going to be my question while we, again, I
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: feel like we more than most shows of this type
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: have a relatively balanced cast most of the time. We
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: do have females on. As a female, do you feel
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: one way or the other about it? Do you feel
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: like we need female Ghostbusters? Not really, no. To be honest.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: That's the response I feel most people are just like, oh, well.
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: That's how I feel too.
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: We don't need it, but you know what? As long
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: as they're making it, It's kind.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: Of just like a pat on the head, like, okay.
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: It'll be a good time, probably.
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: I don't want it to be that.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: No one asked, you know what I mean? And it's fine.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: It's not a film that people were crying out for, like,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: please make another Ghostbusters.
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: We were all satisfied.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: When a movie's great, I'm like, okay, leave it alone.
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: It's there.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: I don't even mind them doing another one. I'm just like,
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: I'm trying to figure out why it's now become the
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: girl Ghostbusters. It would make more sense to me if
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: they continued the story on, they're still doing the Ghostbusting thing,
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: they bring in some new people and some of them
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: happen to be women. But like, why does it, like,
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: it almost seems very token like of like, here's some girls.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: Is it officially Ghostbusters 3 or is it like a reboot?
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: It's just Ghostbusters. So I, I don't know how they're
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: tying it.
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: That's kind of annoying though. Like if they're keeping the
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: same title. So like when you Google Ghostbusters now, like
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: you're going to get this. It'll be harder to like.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: IMDB, it says Ghostbusters 2016.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: It's going to cause confusion, I feel like.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: And that's kind of not fair to the original movie.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: So I don't know if they're going to pretend like it's,
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: in the same universe and all the New York stuff
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: actually happened years ago? Or if this is like reboot,
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: totally reboot, you know?
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I feel like it's one of those things, again, where
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: it's like, okay, Melissa McCarthy, she's on a roll right now.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Let's do Ghostbusters with her.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: Kristen Wiig. And that's the downfall. I'm like, I like
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: these women. I want them to be in a good movie.
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: I don't know if... this is going to be it,
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: but like... Yeah, I wish it wasn't Ghostbusters. I wish
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: they were in something else together.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: Did anyone see the Lifetime... Sorry to D.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: God, I wanted to see it.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: The Lifetime movie.
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: Oh my God.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: Because I love watching terrible Lifetime movies. It's like... It's...
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: It's the most entertaining... It is.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: the most terrible Lifetime movie in the best way possible.
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: Because they're trying to make it terrible, and they're succeeding.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: I just heard they're so straight about it.
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: They're playing it so straight.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: They're so straight, and that's what makes it genius.
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: A lot of people are like, well, no, people are
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: not getting the joke. I've argued with so many people
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: who they really genuinely think that, like, no, they're making
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: a serious movie.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: That was Adult Swim, wasn't it? Or the same people
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: from Adult Swim? Because it feels like it's that level
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: of humor. It's like the people that get the stuff
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: on Adult Swim get it, And everybody else is just like,
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: what is this? And they change the channel.
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: Well, Lifetime, they're at the point now where they're kind
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: of rolling. I kind of hate it. I didn't like
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: how they did the Grumpy Cat movie because I feel
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: like they were trying to wink at you. They're going
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: the sci-fi route where they know why people watch their
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: movies now.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: That does change the mood of it.
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: But I feel like this, because it's like Chris and Wolverine,
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: they're just playing it like a straight. like a script
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: from like a Lifetime movie from the 90s, but they're
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: just going to play the leads.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: It's like a funny or die type thing.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Yeah. That's what it feels like. To me, it's like
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: you get the sense of humor or you don't. You're
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: just going to be like, what is this and change
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: the channel. There's no middle ground on that one.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: It's so funny.
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: But I mean, that's the thing.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: I like- Deadly adoption.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: Yeah, from the opening- That title alone is my favorite.
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: I mean, it just starts, hits the ground, and then
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: it's hilarious.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: Deadly adoption.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: And the corniest. Oh, God, it's good. The Ghostbusters thing.
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: I like these actresses. I mean, we know they've wanted
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: to do three since two. They've been talking. I can
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: dig up old Starlogs from 1990 that are like, Ghostbusters
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: 3 on the cover. They've been building this story of
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: them writing Ghostbusters 3 for God knows how long. So
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: we knew another one eventually was coming. And they were
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: still trying to put the cast together until we lost
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: one of them. And then they were like, well, fine,
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: we can't do it that way. So, I mean, I
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: would have rather them just like continue the story, kind
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: of do a three and then just like make Melissa
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: McCarthy and Kristen Wiig on the team and like not
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: try to jam it into a weird thing that like
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: just make them characters. That's all. I don't know. I
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: don't understand the. rebranding idea that they're now going for
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: like i'd rather just see them be characters in the
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: movie especially.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Just by calling it ghostbusters it's like they're trying to
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: just make a new original.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: Well and it's exactly the same like here's the black
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: one i'm like it's so cheesy the way they're going
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: about it and.
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: Was i kind of like maybe i just i just
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: this isn't the case but i feel like part of
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: the title like of ghostbusters it was like a like
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: it i don't know what's the what's the phrase um
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: like a double entendre or something like it would like
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: the busters were like guys like hey buster like we're
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: ghost busters that might have just been you that's just
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: because they're staying with it because they're they're just they're
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: they're ghostbusters too in this new one so like oh
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: okay maybe that wasn't like.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: I think that's i just applied that to busting makes
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: me feel.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: Good yeah are they gonna bring are they gonna bring
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: back ray parker jr i would.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: Hope so i mean what else is he doing Like,
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: if ever there was a guy that just kind of
