- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the item team series and your daily influence today we are going to revisit accountability except I'm actually going to do some comparables specifically on the difference or actually the alignment of self accountability.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: versus team accountability.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And where is that right balance?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, is it even a balance issue?
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, first of all, self accountability is the catalyst while team accountability is the engine.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that can be confusing.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So what do I mean by that?
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: And in the IoT series,
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: We affirm that influence starts with the individual.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Many of you have heard that we define individual different ways.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's visualized by the small letter IV self and the big letter IV more than self will too to many individuals together individually working towards a common goal or mission.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: So self accountability is the internal compass that guides behavior
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: Even when no one is watching, you may have seen those memes or those quotes where, you know, and good integrity is when you do the right things when no one is watching.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's self accountability.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: Team accountability, operationalizes that commitment.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: It turns good intentions into shared progress, and that's really important to understand as part of your culture.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's good that the individuals understand that and that the whole organization understands what that means.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: We are made up of individual parts, but we all have a common mission.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: We all have common core values that we have bought into if we're in that organization.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Everything we like to look at, obviously, is with smarts only look at this from a smart lens, self accountability, ensures personal follow-through.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, team accountability ensures a line to momentum.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: And that's important because smart culture is a flat culture and it elevates the individual but it's those individual parts that make the team that is the IMT and so a smart culture also understands that the healthiest teams create environments where individuals on their role and honor others success too.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: That means we have a appreciation and an understanding of what our team members do and what is required of them also, and we don't look at holding them accountable as a way of consequence, we do it as a way to elevate.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: So accountability is an assolo act or a team sport.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's both, it's played in harmony.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: It has inherent balance in a smart organization.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: It has inherent balance in a viable company with good culture.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: It looks balanced comes when individual responsibility feeds that collective reliability.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Leaders must model both forms of that, if
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: But by the way, leads into, if everybody's a leader, we all must model that.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: That means that we don't over emphasize our self accountability, because then we risk silos, and we can get burnout.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: But if we lead to heavily on the team accountability,
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: We risk group think, or blame cycles.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And a smart leader will foster a culture where personal ownership drives team trust.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And vice versa.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: So like every person must understand other accountability contributes to the larger whole reorganization.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's important, but also empowering individuals to lead themselves.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then lead alongside others.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: true accountability doesn't divide the weight of responsibility.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: It multiplies it.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: It multiplies the will to carry it together.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: It gives us the collective and really creates what the foundation of the eye and team really is.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: We are individually ourselves, but when we are part of something else, we are part of that individual thing also, and it carries responsibility.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: self accountability and team accountability.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: They're synergistic and they go together.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: And when we focus on it as a positive and we allow them to work together in a way that clearly leads into smart.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: We get this culture, we get this collective that is moving in the right direction, creating these amazing cultures and creating viable enterprises where everybody succeeds.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I look forward to talking to you again soon.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day.
