- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's Wednesday morning in the nation's capital 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hello there. We're Toby and Chili in the morning. Why
- 0:13Speaker 2: are you feeling good right now? 866-927-4361. Call and tell
- 0:18Speaker 2: us because joy is contagious. And there's always a reason
- 0:21Speaker 2: to feel good when we start a brand new day. Chili,
- 0:23Speaker 2: why are you feeling good this morning?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Dare I say? I don't think I'm going to hit
- 0:27Speaker 3: a wall this morning.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Don't jinx yourself now.
- 0:29Speaker 3: And when I say that, I don't mean like literally
- 0:32Speaker 3: hitting a wall. I mean figuratively when you crash a
- 0:35Speaker 3: little bit, like no matter what time you start your
- 0:37Speaker 3: day or your morning at work, there comes a point
- 0:40Speaker 3: maybe you're sitting at your cubicle and you feel it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: The wave come over you, right? And it usually happens
- 0:45Speaker 3: to me between 6.30 and 7. And for whatever reason,
- 0:50Speaker 3: when I woke up this morning, I felt like normal refreshed.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Rested.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Very rested.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Did you look at your sleep score?
- 0:57Speaker 3: I didn't wear my thing last night.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Sometimes you don't want to ruin the moment.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Thank you. Sometimes the data really is disturbing. Therefore, I
- 1:06Speaker 3: chose not to wear. But anyway, that's why I'm feeling good.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Why are you feeling good?
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm feeling good because I took an L in my
- 1:12Speaker 2: fantasy league over the weekend. I took a loss.
- 1:15Speaker 3: A loss.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I did.
- 1:16Speaker 3: But you were number one in your league.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And I believe that I still am.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:19Speaker 2: But, you know, here's the thing. You have to go
- 1:22Speaker 2: through moments where maybe you fall a little bit short
- 1:25Speaker 2: in life. In order to find even more motivation back
- 1:29Speaker 2: on top. I say that hoping the commanders are listening.
- 1:33Speaker 2: You know, because seriously, life sometimes gets tough. Especially when
- 1:39Speaker 2: you're playing a game. Could be fantasy football. Could be
- 1:42Speaker 2: real football. Could be anything. Sometimes you lose.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Are you giving the morning mindset quote now?
- 1:47Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying. Sometimes you lose, but sometimes you
- 1:51Speaker 2: lose so that you can win later on. But anyway,
- 1:55Speaker 2: that's why I'm feeling good today, because I decided that
- 1:57Speaker 2: the glass is half full, and that's how I'm going
- 1:59Speaker 2: to look at it as I enter into a new
- 2:02Speaker 2: week where I'm going to make some serious picks and
- 2:04Speaker 2: see if I can upgrade a few things so that
- 2:06Speaker 2: I don't get beat by one running back like I
- 2:08Speaker 2: did over the weekend. Anyway, soapbox off. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Why you feeling good this morning? You know where we are,
- 2:16Speaker 2: so give us a call at 866-927-4361. Need news? Top

- 2:50Speaker 3: to the White House for CNN, MSNOW, and Politico. The
- 2:55Speaker 3: judge again blocked the president's ban, ruling that the outlets
- 2:58Speaker 3: are likely to win their claims of viewpoint discrimination and retaliation.
- 3:02Speaker 3: The White House says that Kimberly Guilfoyle was asked to
- 3:06Speaker 3: resign as ambassador to Greece over accusations that she offered
- 3:10Speaker 3: a businessman administration access in exchange for paying off her
- 3:14Speaker 3: credit card debt. Tree cutting at D.C. 's East Potomac
- 3:18Speaker 3: Golf Course is going to be on hold until October 26th.
- 3:22Speaker 3: A federal judge criticized the administration for its handling of
- 3:25Speaker 3: the work over the holiday weekend. D.C. police are searching
- 3:29Speaker 3: for a group of juveniles who are accused of robbing
- 3:31Speaker 3: a man of his designer shoes and iPhone near the
- 3:35Speaker 3: Chinatown metro station Monday night. Police say the victim was
- 3:39Speaker 3: surrounded by about 25 to 30 young people, but no
- 3:42Speaker 3: arrests have been made. Prince William County police have started
- 3:46Speaker 3: a pilot program that could put drones in the air
- 3:49Speaker 3: before police arrive at emergencies. The police chief says that
- 3:53Speaker 3: the test will run for the next few months. And
- 3:56Speaker 3: a new Halloween candy survey asked customers to name their
- 3:59Speaker 3: most and least favorite candy. Candy Corn tops the worst list,
- 4:04Speaker 3: followed by Circus Peanuts. And Snickers ranks as the best.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Forecast for today, sunshine again with highs around 88. Right now,

- 4:55Speaker 2: mission every weekday morning right around this time with your
- 5:00Speaker 2: morning mindset. Now, if you're just finding us, what is
- 5:02Speaker 2: this mindset thing?
- 5:03Speaker 3: We find a quote that has inspired us or maybe
- 5:06Speaker 3: even motivated us and share it with you in hopes
- 5:09Speaker 3: of it doing the same.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I've made no secret of my affinity for Steve Jobs.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So today... We turn to the Apple co-founder's words where
- 5:20Speaker 2: he says, your time is limited. Don't waste it living
- 5:23Speaker 2: someone else's life. That comes from his commencement speech to Stanford.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone
- 5:31Speaker 2: else's life. This is important because somewhere along the way,
- 5:35Speaker 2: it's simple. It's really easy to build a life around
- 5:38Speaker 2: what everybody else needs from you, from work to family, everybody.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Everybody needs just something, you know? Just make sure that
- 5:48Speaker 2: there's a little room in your life for the person
- 5:51Speaker 2: actually living that life. And that would be you. Your
- 5:56Speaker 2: time is limited. Don't waste it living someone else's life.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Steve Jobs with your morning mindset today. I hope that
- 6:02Speaker 2: it helps. And if you need to find it, we've
- 6:05Speaker 2: got it for you. The Toby and Chili page, washfm.com.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Reach out, ask. Be happy to send it your way.
- 6:10Speaker 2: In the meantime, stay with us because in just a few.
- 6:13Speaker 3: The latest on the drama between Kelly Clarkson and a
- 6:18Speaker 3: Brooklyn toy store.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I don't know if you've been following this whole Kelly
- 6:22Speaker 2: Clarkson versus a toy store drama out of New York City. Basically,
- 6:26Speaker 2: it's all a bunch of hooey, but let's break it
- 6:28Speaker 2: down for you here at 97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby
- 6:31Speaker 2: and Tilly in the morning.
- 6:32Speaker 3: All right. So a few days ago, Kelly Clarkson complained
- 6:36Speaker 3: online that this store called Art of Play in Brooklyn
- 6:39Speaker 3: really mistreated her. She says it was like the scene
- 6:41Speaker 3: in Pretty Woman, you know, when they judge you based
- 6:44Speaker 3: on how you're dressed or look that you can't afford something.
- 6:47Speaker 3: She'd gone to the store. She inquired about a $ 15, 000
- 6:50Speaker 3: singing bird and they directed her to buy something else, perhaps. Well,
- 6:56Speaker 3: the store said that bird was never for sale. It
- 6:58Speaker 3: was just there.
- 6:59Speaker 2: No, it's permanently attached to the store. We use it
- 7:01Speaker 2: as part of the magic shows and such that we
- 7:04Speaker 2: do here at this store.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Kelly shot back online saying, that's a lie. Not only
- 7:09Speaker 3: are you rude, but you're liars because there's a picture
- 7:11Speaker 3: of a price tag right next to it. What's that for? Toby,
- 7:15Speaker 3: every day it's been something new, right? The store owner
- 7:17Speaker 3: came out and made a comment. Then today we see
- 7:19Speaker 3: security footage from the interaction, although... You can't hear anything
- 7:24Speaker 3: that's being said in the security footage.
- 7:26Speaker 2: It's a combination of a bunch of half he said,
- 7:29Speaker 2: she said.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Because it's kind of a sad microcosm of the state
- 7:33Speaker 2: of global things when it comes to our discourse with
- 7:36Speaker 2: one another as people. You know, you can't work out
- 7:38Speaker 2: your problems. You've got to go and post.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Well, she's got millions, I should say. And the store
- 7:43Speaker 3: owner is saying, we're a small business and now we're
- 7:45Speaker 3: getting threats and people are coming in and making comments.
- 7:47Speaker 3: To your point, I wonder if this could have been
- 7:50Speaker 3: handled behind the scenes instead of in public. And that's
- 7:54Speaker 3: so rare for Kelly to come out and trash anybody.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So that's why a lot of people are siding with her.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, she does not typically behave this way unless, of course,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you make her very poopy pants. There was one time
- 8:06Speaker 2: once before where she did feel a bit disrespected and
- 8:09Speaker 2: she did pop off on somebody. That's the exception, not
- 8:12Speaker 2: the norm, you know, and for the love of God,
- 8:14Speaker 2: you shouldn't be threatening anybody. That's not how to support
- 8:17Speaker 2: somebody you're a fan of.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I'm kind of over this. I really am. I mean,
- 8:21Speaker 3: every day I'm like, what? There's more to this? Like,
- 8:24Speaker 3: why can't we just be nice, make nice? I don't
- 8:26Speaker 3: care how that, what that looks like.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:29Speaker 3: But it's been in the news cycle a little too
- 8:32Speaker 3: long for my liking.
- 8:34Speaker 2: If you want to stay up with the latest, of course,
- 8:36Speaker 2: we got you covered. It's over your chili page, washfm.com
- 8:40Speaker 2: or just go to People Magazine or Page Six because
- 8:42Speaker 2: it's everywhere. And what's everywhere this morning is the news.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour, right around 610.
- 8:49Speaker 2: What's going on this morning, Chili?
- 8:51Speaker 3: Looks like charging an electric vehicle at public stations in
- 8:55Speaker 3: Arlington is about to get more expensive. I've got the
- 8:58Speaker 3: details on that story coming up in just a few minutes.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Want to see Journey when they come to town? Well,

- 9:46Speaker 3: had surgery yesterday to remove a lobe of his right lung.
- 9:50Speaker 3: The Vatican says the surgery was successful and prognosis is good.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Kimberly gilfoyle is stepping down as u.s ambassador to greece
- 9:59Speaker 3: amid misconduct allegations now she denies accusations that she asked
- 10:04Speaker 3: a businessman to pay off her credit card debt in
- 10:06Speaker 3: exchange for access to the administration Cornell University is banning
- 10:11Speaker 3: fraternity house parties for the rest of the academic year
- 10:15Speaker 3: as its sexual assault investigation continues. The school will also
- 10:19Speaker 3: add sexual assault investigators to its campus police force. A
- 10:24Speaker 3: federal judge is pausing additional tree cutting at D.C. 's
- 10:27Speaker 3: East Potomac Golf Course until October 26th. The order will
- 10:31Speaker 3: also require the administration to give three days notice before
- 10:34Speaker 3: making further changes. A woman was taken to the hospital
- 10:38Speaker 3: after a golf cart rolled over at TPC Potomac yesterday.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Montgomery County fire officials say that she was transported as
- 10:46Speaker 3: a trauma patient. Charging an electric vehicle at public stations
- 10:50Speaker 3: in Arlington could soon cost 72% more. County officials are
- 10:55Speaker 3: weighing a rate increase at county-operated stations with a vote
- 10:59Speaker 3: possible in the next week or two. And with 72
- 11:03Speaker 3: days left till Christmas, a new survey finds that a
- 11:05Speaker 3: lot of Americans are worried about affording holiday shopping. Nearly
- 11:08Speaker 3: half say they're going to have to borrow money for gifts,
- 11:11Speaker 3: while 27% plan to take on debt. Forecast for today
- 11:16Speaker 3: will have sunny skies with highs around 88 later. Right
- 11:20Speaker 3: now it's 65 in Olney.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And that's the news with Toby and Chili in the morning.

- 12:05Speaker 2: that cost you a bunch of money, do you have
- 12:07Speaker 2: a habit that costs you big time? We're going to
- 12:10Speaker 2: talk about it in just minutes. 866-927-4361 is the number
- 12:16Speaker 2: so that you can join the conversation. 97.1 Watch FM
- 12:20Speaker 2: with Washington's variety of the 80s, 90s and today. Till
- 12:23Speaker 2: we in Chile in the morning. So let's talk about
- 12:26Speaker 2: this habit, this habit that cost you a lot of money.
- 12:29Speaker 2: There's a woman in Nevada, Chile.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah, she's been sentenced to jail after she married at
- 12:35Speaker 3: least a dozen men just to help them fund her
- 12:38Speaker 3: gambling habit. She's 34 years old. She used fake IDs
- 12:42Speaker 3: and aliases to marry men that she met online. And
- 12:45Speaker 3: then what she would do was ask them for money
- 12:48Speaker 3: to help a supposedly sick relative. But instead, she took
- 12:51Speaker 3: that money and lost more than $ 300, 000 at a Vegas casino.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Total scammer. Don't let yourself fall for these honeypot scams,
- 13:00Speaker 2: ladies and gentlemen.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Look, I've got a lot of bad habits, but thank you, Jesus,
- 13:04Speaker 3: that gambling is not one of them. And you don't
- 13:06Speaker 3: have a gambling habit.
- 13:08Speaker 2: No, I enjoy gambling, but when I don't have the
- 13:10Speaker 2: money to do it, guess who's not going to a
- 13:12Speaker 2: casino or a sports book? That's right, me.
- 13:14Speaker 3: But is there something that you do or a habit
- 13:17Speaker 3: that you have that does cost you more money than
- 13:19Speaker 3: it probably should?
- 13:20Speaker 2: Are you trying to get me to throw myself under
- 13:21Speaker 2: the bus here?
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yeah, because if you don't, I will.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Okay, well.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Have no bad habits.
- 13:27Speaker 3: No, that's not true.
- 13:29Speaker 6: None.
- 13:29Speaker 3: There's one I make fun of you about all the time.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I'm guilty as charged of Uber eating way too often.
- 13:36Speaker 3: You Uber eat everything. And then when you Uber eat,
- 13:38Speaker 3: it'll be like one or two items. And I'm thinking, dude,
- 13:41Speaker 3: you just paid three, four times more for that just
- 13:43Speaker 3: to have somebody drive it over to you. I can
- 13:46Speaker 3: never make peace with that type of living.
- 13:48Speaker 4: No.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And you know what? In these days, all it is
- 13:51Speaker 2: is for an appetizer. An appetizer in the restaurant is
- 13:54Speaker 2: dirt cheap. But then when you have it delivered, you
- 13:57Speaker 2: tack on about 40%. I know. It's not good. No bueno.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And then they deliver groceries, too. What about you? Do
- 14:04Speaker 2: you have a bad habit?
- 14:05Speaker 6: Nothing?
- 14:06Speaker 3: Nothing that I would say costs a lot of money.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Sometimes when there's like, you know, prime days and whatnot,
- 14:13Speaker 3: I may purchase some things, but technically I'm purchasing them
- 14:16Speaker 3: on sale. So it's not the same.
- 14:18Speaker 2: That's right. It's very thrifty.
- 14:19Speaker 3: It is a different way.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Thrifty. Well, if you have a habit that costs you
- 14:23Speaker 2: a lot of money, we would love to hear all
- 14:26Speaker 2: about it and we won't judge you. 866-927-4361 is the number.
- 14:32Speaker 2: You can also tap the talkback microphone if you're listening
- 14:34Speaker 2: on your iHeart app right now because it's wide open
- 14:37Speaker 2: for you. Tell us about that habit. The one that
- 14:39Speaker 2: costs you so much money. You freak out every time
- 14:42Speaker 2: you open a credit card statement. Jump into the conversation
- 14:45Speaker 2: at 866-927-4361. You got Toby and Chili in the morning
- 14:50Speaker 2: in Washington's variety of the 80s, 90s, and today as
- 14:53Speaker 2: we talk about a habit, a habit that you might
- 14:56Speaker 2: have that costs you a ton of money. This woman
- 15:00Speaker 2: in Nevada married 12 different dudes to fund her gambling habit. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 2: $ 300, 000 gambling habit.
- 15:04Speaker 3: That's like a mortgage. On mortgage, you could buy a
- 15:11Speaker 3: whole house in some parts of the country with $ 300, 000.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 3: No, that's not good. But we're not saying that you
- 15:17Speaker 3: need to have a habit that costs you that much money.
- 15:19Speaker 2: No.
- 15:20Speaker 3: But you could come clean and confess to us something
- 15:23Speaker 3: that you're very aware is probably not the best habit.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And we will not judge. OK, Callie from Silver Spring.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Good morning. Welcome. Spill your own tea.
- 15:32Speaker 6: Getting takeout when I have perfectly good food at home.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Well, that does sound familiar because sometimes you just don't
- 15:38Speaker 3: feel like eating what you already have.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Right. And so Uber and DoorDash.
- 15:44Speaker 6: I'll open my fridge, see the ingredients for an entire
- 15:47Speaker 6: meal and somehow convince myself that ordering thirty five dollars
- 15:51Speaker 6: of sushi is the only reasonable option.
- 15:54Speaker 3: As long as you finish all that sushi, you get
- 15:57Speaker 3: a pass. But if you spent all that money and
- 15:59Speaker 3: you end up throwing it away or leave it in
- 16:01Speaker 3: your fridge, that's not okay.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Don't order with your eyes. Order with your stomach. And
- 16:05Speaker 2: the idea that sushi does not keep well in a fridge.
- 16:09Speaker 2: No bueno sushi leftovers. But thank you, Callie. Ray in Alexandria,
- 16:14Speaker 2: what's your very expensive habit? I'm a big impulse shopper.
- 16:19Speaker 6: Really?

- 20:44Speaker 3: Have missed it 43 percent of people say they have

- 20:52Speaker 2: Your playing for tickets to see Carly Rae Jepsen, the Anthem,
- 20:56Speaker 2: May 14th. Thanks to Live Nation. Who'd that be and
- 20:59Speaker 2: where you stay at with your house and crib and whatnot?
- 21:02Speaker 3: Hi, my name is Jessie and I'm from Fredericksburg.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Welcome, Jessie. You've got the question for these tickets to
- 21:08Speaker 2: see Carly Rae Jepsen at the Anthem, May 14th. What
- 21:12Speaker 2: is your guess?
- 21:13Speaker 3: It is going to be TV shows. Have you ever
- 21:16Speaker 3: pretended to like one just to please your partner?
- 21:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:19Speaker 2: All the time, actually.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I know.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 21:22Speaker 3: What's one that comes to mind right now, putting you
- 21:24Speaker 3: on the spot? I don't like the 40-year-old or 30-year-old
- 21:27Speaker 3: virgin at all. Oh, the movie? Yes.
- 21:31Speaker 4: It's the movie, but there's also another show, like Orange
- 21:33Speaker 4: is the New Black.
- 21:34Speaker 3: It's just too predictable. Oh. Oh, I didn't know that. Okay. Wow. Okay.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Wow.
- 21:39Speaker 2: And see, I thought I was all by myself, not
- 21:41Speaker 2: like in some of these Hallmark Christmas movies.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Oh, bite your tongue. We're about to enter the season now.
- 21:47Speaker 3: We've entered it.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:50Speaker 2: But you know, I'm just being honest.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Case, 43% of people say they have pretended to like
- 21:58Speaker 3: a TV show just to please their partner because their
- 22:02Speaker 3: partner likes it. So that means you're correct.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Thank you so much.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And if your partner does not like Carly Rae Jepsen,
- 22:09Speaker 2: leave them at home because you've got tickets to go
- 22:12Speaker 2: to the Anthem May 14th. Thanks to Live Nation.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 22:16Speaker 2: You're welcome. And thank you for listening to Toby and
- 22:18Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. Have a good day today, despite
- 22:21Speaker 2: whatever he might want to watch on TV. Tonight's kind
- 22:23Speaker 2: of lame.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Thank you. You too.
- 22:25Speaker 2: We got more tickets. Carly Rae Jepsen tomorrow. Another round
- 22:28Speaker 2: of your nearly impossible question happens right around 710 after
- 22:32Speaker 2: Toby and Chili's top stories at the top of the hour. Now,
- 22:35Speaker 2: everybody stand by.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Because Sean and Arlington left us a talkback message wanting
- 22:40Speaker 3: to know if something he does is a big turnoff.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Whenever you've got questions, questions which make you ponder whether
- 22:48Speaker 2: or not you're going down the right path with anything,
- 22:51Speaker 2: remember that we're here to help. Toby and Tilly in
- 22:53Speaker 2: the Morning at 97.1 Wash FM. In fact, if you
- 22:56Speaker 2: need our help, feel free to leave us a message
- 22:59Speaker 2: via TalkBack. If you're signed into your iHeart app, you
- 23:02Speaker 2: tap that red mic with the circle around it. Speak
- 23:05Speaker 2: your mind, and then we'll see if we can't help
- 23:08Speaker 2: you through whatever you're going through. So here's a message
- 23:12Speaker 2: we got, Chili, from Sean, who lives in Arlington. I
- 23:16Speaker 2: listen to the show all the time, but this question
- 23:18Speaker 2: just popped out of my head. Ladies, is it a
- 23:20Speaker 2: turnoff for a guy to be scared at a haunted house?
- 23:23Speaker 2: I'm asking for a friend.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Chili? Chili?
- 23:24Speaker 3: I don't think so, Sean. I think that if you're
- 23:28Speaker 3: dating a woman who's into haunted houses and you're open
- 23:32Speaker 3: to going through it with her, even though you're scared,
- 23:34Speaker 3: that shows me you're being brave. If you say to her, look,
- 23:38Speaker 3: I don't like these things. I get really scared. I'm
- 23:40Speaker 3: still impressed because you were honest enough to admit your fear.
- 23:44Speaker 3: So in my case, it would not be a turnoff.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Concur. Vulnerability is important. Enough said.
- 23:50Speaker 3: However, I will say one thing. If I'm going through
- 23:52Speaker 3: a haunted house and I'm kind of freaking out and
- 23:54Speaker 3: even the guys freaking out, don't you dare throw me
- 23:57Speaker 3: in front of the characters. Okay.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Well, that would be funny. I mean, that's the next
- 24:00Speaker 2: course of action.
- 24:01Speaker 3: No, that's, that's, that is not an okay thing to do.
- 24:04Speaker 2: But we're trying to take the fun to the next level.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Do not offer me up for sacrifice. That ain't okay.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Right there in the haunted house, in the kitchen, right
- 24:13Speaker 2: there by the butcher knife. Or in the backyard with
- 24:15Speaker 2: the chainsaw. What do we have to say to Sean
- 24:19Speaker 2: this morning? 866-927-4361 if you have some thoughts. We're talking
- 24:24Speaker 2: about it to help Sean out this morning. However, right
- 24:27Speaker 2: around 810, we got to get to the news. Top
- 24:29Speaker 2: stories at the top of the hour. What you working on,
- 24:32Speaker 2: Chili Amar?
- 24:33Speaker 3: Well, the Chesapeake Bay earned its highest grade in 40 years.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I've got the latest on that coming up in just
- 24:41Speaker 3: a few minutes.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Foodies in Arlington, rejoice. It is 97.1 Wash FM with
- 24:47Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 24:49Speaker 3: We are in the midst of their restaurant week. It's
- 24:51Speaker 3: lasting through Monday the 19th. But unlike other restaurant weeks
- 24:55Speaker 3: in the DMV, there is no set price. So each
- 24:57Speaker 3: restaurant creates its own specials.
- 24:59Speaker 2: We're coming your way maybe later on today. It's 97.1
- 25:04Speaker 2: Wash FM.
- 25:06Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington.
- 25:09Speaker 5: An iHeartRadio station.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Coming up on Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Cornell University says it's banning fraternity house parties for the
- 25:18Speaker 3: rest of the academic year. We've got the latest on
- 25:21Speaker 3: that story and others on the way. With Joby and
- 25:24Speaker 3: Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Pope Leo has been diagnosed with lung cancer after he
- 25:35Speaker 3: had surgery yesterday to remove a lobe of his right lung.
- 25:39Speaker 3: The Vatican says the surgery was successful and prognosis looks good.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Kimberly Guilfoyle is stepping down as U.S. ambassador to Greece
- 25:48Speaker 3: amid misconduct allegations. Now she denies accusations that she asked
- 25:52Speaker 3: a businessman to pay off her credit card debt in
- 25:55Speaker 3: exchange for access to the administration. Cornell University says it's
- 25:59Speaker 3: banning fraternity house parties for the rest of the academic
- 26:03Speaker 3: year as its sexual assault investigation continues. And the school
- 26:07Speaker 3: will also add sexual assault investigators to its campus police force.
- 26:13Speaker 3: A federal judge is pausing additional tree cutting at D.C.
- 26:16Speaker 3: 's East Potomac Golf Course until October 26th. The order
- 26:20Speaker 3: will also require the administration to give three days notice
- 26:23Speaker 3: before making further changes. Maryland Governor Wes Moore is ordering
- 26:28Speaker 3: a new intervention program in both Montgomery County and Baltimore
- 26:32Speaker 3: City to address car thefts that involve young teens. The
- 26:36Speaker 3: plan connects at-risk kids and their families with social services
- 26:40Speaker 3: and law enforcement before another deadly crash occurs. Well, Fairfax
- 26:46Speaker 3: County police have issued more than 3,800 tickets and warnings
- 26:49Speaker 3: to drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians while turning
- 26:53Speaker 3: through crosswalks. Since they launched Operation Safe Right Turn in September,
- 26:59Speaker 3: officers have also distributed more than 48,000 safety flyers. And
- 27:05Speaker 3: the Chesapeake Bay earned a C-plus on its 2026 report card. That,
- 27:10Speaker 3: by the way, is the highest grade that it's had
- 27:12Speaker 3: in 40 years. Researchers credit cleanup efforts, but some local
- 27:18Speaker 3: rivers are still struggling. Forecast for today, sunny skies with
- 27:22Speaker 3: highs in the upper 80s. Right now, 66 in Germantown.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And that is the news. Remember, you get the news
- 27:30Speaker 2: that matters with Toby and Tilly's top stories. 10 past
- 27:33Speaker 2: every hour when you get up with us. And stay
- 27:37Speaker 2: with us. Because we're going to get back to this
- 27:39Speaker 2: conversation about being afraid of a haunted house. Ladies, if
- 27:44Speaker 2: a guy is afraid of a haunted house, if he's scared,
- 27:47Speaker 2: is that a turnoff? Or do you find that to
- 27:49Speaker 2: be a bit stimulating as it were? 866-927-4361 is the
- 27:55Speaker 2: number so you can join the conversation as we get
- 27:58Speaker 2: back into it. A little bit ago with Toby and
- 28:01Speaker 2: Chili in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM, we
- 28:05Speaker 2: got a talkback message from Sean in Arlington who wanted
- 28:09Speaker 2: to know.
- 28:10Speaker 3: If it's a turnoff for a guy to be scared
- 28:14Speaker 3: of a haunted house, and he said he was asking
- 28:17Speaker 3: for a.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Well, you tell your friend that, well, I guess in
- 28:23Speaker 2: this part of the classroom, Chili didn't really have a
- 28:26Speaker 2: problem with it. I think the guy's just being vulnerable
- 28:29Speaker 2: and that's a good thing. What do you want to
- 28:31Speaker 2: tell Sean from Arlington this morning? We'll start with you,
- 28:35Speaker 2: Brittany in Fairfax Station. Go ahead. I have dealt with both.
- 28:40Speaker 3: What does that mean?
- 28:41Speaker 4: I actually have been through a haunted house where the
- 28:45Speaker 4: guy was like, whatever, and he could not care less.
- 28:47Speaker 5: He didn't even seem he was having all that fun.
- 28:50Speaker 6: But the guy that was more scared, he actually like
- 28:53Speaker 6: let the scare actors do their thing.
- 28:55Speaker 2: We walked through the web.
- 28:57Speaker 6: So I actually ended up having a good time with
- 28:59Speaker 6: a guy that was scared.
- 29:00Speaker 3: So did you end up going out or dating the
- 29:02Speaker 3: scared guy?
- 29:03Speaker 1: You already know I did because he kept it real.
- 29:06Speaker 3: He kept it real and he was actually more fun
- 29:08Speaker 3: to be around.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Who knew fear could be such a motivator, Brittany? Thank you.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Over to Rachel in Damascus.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I don't love a haunted house.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I don't love it myself.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Like I can totally get avoiding it. But if they're
- 29:24Speaker 4: like screaming.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Like a little girl.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Ah! It's definitely a turnoff.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Oh, so you can be scared. Just don't scream.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Gotcha. The screaming is no bueno.
- 29:35Speaker 4: You want if you're with somebody you want them to
- 29:38Speaker 4: protect you you don't want to see them like kicking
- 29:42Speaker 4: and screaming over something that's totally pretend right like what's
- 29:45Speaker 4: going to happen if there's a real crisis.
- 29:47Speaker 3: And you're really scared well here's a pro tip for
- 29:49Speaker 3: you you call 9-1-1.
- 29:51Speaker 2: That's right Over in Bethesda, just off Wisconsin Avenue. What
- 29:58Speaker 2: do you think, Emma? I don't know.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I actually think it's kind of a turn on. Now,
- 30:02Speaker 3: how so? I think like, you know, it's nice that
- 30:05Speaker 3: they're in touch with their sensitive side and their ability
- 30:08Speaker 3: to express what they're afraid of. I don't know. I
- 30:11Speaker 3: kind of like it.
- 30:12Speaker 2: There's a ghost in the house. I'm out. Take a
- 30:16Speaker 2: second to think about the problems that you have in
