- 0:01Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian we've
- 0:04podcast today, we have an English musician.
- 0:08Now, why is this, why is this different, why is it a sudden
- 0:12surprise? Well, it's the first time that
- 0:15I've actually had an English musician on the show.
- 0:17I've had musicians from other countries, but for me, this will
- 0:20be interesting because I am also an English musician.
- 0:23So, there's a lot of talking points here, but to get more to
- 0:26the point to get actually, to the guests himself, our guests.
- 0:30Is an English musician, who's been doing this for quite a
- 0:32number of years, and he's also a YouTuber and he's got himself a
- 0:35bit of a following on YouTube now, because of the, the songs
- 0:38that he's singing and the types of influences that he has in the
- 0:42kind of sound that he has and we'll get into that in the
- 0:45course of this interview. But yeah, his name is Adam
- 0:47Barrett. Welcome to the podcast.
- 0:49I did. Hello.
- 0:51Please the beer. I'm good.
- 0:53You yeah. Very good, very good.
- 0:55And I will just say we've been trying to get Adam on the show
- 0:58for a little bit of time and There were various reasons why
- 1:01we couldn't do it, but this is very spur-of-the-moment.
- 1:04Adam has some time and I was like well I'm not doing anything
- 1:08right now and I am prepared. Although admittedly I did have
- 1:11to run and just make sure I'm tidy and presentable.
- 1:14But with regards to the actual research itself, we are ready in
- 1:19all guns blazing. So yeah, I'll just jump straight
- 1:24in straight into the questions and let's get to know you a bit.
- 1:27So you have a very I've written this down like this and it's
- 1:33true, but it's as funny to me. You have a fantastic taste in
- 1:36music and I think so. Anyway, and you do a lot of
- 1:40covers of bands such as wayss, the Beatles, and arguably your
- 1:46favorite, The Smiths. And that's what I came across as
- 1:49well for YouTube, probably through the algorithm, which is
- 1:52why I mentioned that your YouTube is doing well, because
- 1:55it's sort of being picked up and, you know, I listen to a lot
- 1:58of musicians. Online.
- 2:00I think when you are a musician you sort of like to listen to
- 2:04other musicians as well. There is that element to it but
- 2:07it's also you know, just biking. Good music.
- 2:10Always wanting to kind of see up-and-coming artists and such
- 2:13and you know I sort of just randomly clicked on it and I
- 2:17thought this would be interesting and you absolutely
- 2:20nailed the song and I was like, okay, I'm a fan of this guy
- 2:22straight away. So I guess my first question is
- 2:27I wanted to ask, how did you get into these particular Ocular
- 2:30bands. And what what do you love so
- 2:33much about the Smiths in comparison to the other bands
- 2:36because I'd say that on your channel, your YouTube channel in
- 2:40particular, there's a lot of covers of the Smiths so that's
- 2:43kind of arguably your favorite. So I just wanted to kind of
- 2:46know. Yeah.
- 2:47How you got into those bands and why what specifically makes the
- 2:50Smiths special to you? Yeah, fair enough and has it
- 2:56again some other. No just the same way everyone
- 2:59else for interviews. I guess, I mean, when I was
- 3:00younger and a school, there was a Sadie honest truth, right?
- 3:07When I was younger, I used to listen to a lot of pop in the
- 3:1090s, the early 90s, I was just in pop music.
- 3:12I was too young, I didn't have anything else.
- 3:14And if you want the really boring long story about it,
- 3:17actually, there was a kid at school called Cruz, who was like
- 3:22the coolest kid in school. And I've heard of racist.
- 3:25I was kind of like a little bit into a suspect.
- 3:26He loved Oasis, like he loved them.
- 3:29And Basically, it was the cool kid and are for, okay?
- 3:34Eggs. Cool to listen to a racist.
- 3:36I started listening to Isis and I was like yeah putting some a
- 3:39little bit but not massively. Then a couple of years later the
- 3:42master plan came out the album and my mate gave it to me and
- 3:47just said, have a listen to this and I was like okay this is like
- 3:501998 or something like that and I kind of liked him but I didn't
- 3:54I wasn't massive into him and then for some reason I listened
- 3:58to the album and the song underneath the sky which is
- 4:01really not a popular, not like it's a Very weird song except
- 4:05it's cymatics like chord progression in the chorus and
- 4:08it's so odd and that just remember, that weird sound
- 4:10struck me and I was like, what is this?
- 4:13And then from there I just love them from that moment on was
- 4:18really, to be fair. I saw him in 2005.
- 4:20Oasis, is my big first like what?
- 4:23Passion sort of thing. And in every way, everything
- 4:28else came for now, but say really well, everything, you
- 4:31know, discovering the beat was discovering the sniffs Jam,
- 4:35like, the last, like, everyone from, they just all kind of
- 4:37spread out. So, yeah.
- 4:40Did you kind of Discover it through?
- 4:42Because I think, no, Gallagher in particular, has always kind
- 4:47of cited The Smiths and the Beatles and bands, like that, as
- 4:52being like, you know, direct kind of influences, and you can
- 4:55kind of see that. That I suppose visually they're
- 4:58very reminiscent of The Beatles. I think Liam's also said that
- 5:02there's like a big influence there.
- 5:05And in terms of the sound in particular, there's like that
- 5:09direct link between this their sounds and the nose actually
- 5:13covered quite a few of their songs.
- 5:15I actually watched a video recently where he apparently was
- 5:20given Johnny Mars guitar in his pretty crazy story.
- 5:27It was, it was something to do pain-free out.
- 5:31It was, it was something to do with.
- 5:32I think they became friends or they would talk.
- 5:35They talk to give us something like that and then Knows guitar
- 5:40had broken. So he basically just said to
- 5:42Johnny Marr, like yeah, can I use yours?
- 5:45And then he was like yeah. And he just didn't give it back
- 5:49but they gave it back like many. Many years later like 15 years
- 5:53later but he should wear Johnny Marr happened to be playing
- 5:58guitar as a guest on their album and yeah, yeah.
- 6:02When he was doing the guest party, just gave him the guitar
- 6:04and it was like, uh-huh. Is that?
- 6:06Yeah, you can have that back that anyway, yeah.
- 6:10Is that kind of like how you got into them?
- 6:12Then, is that, is that like socks?
- 6:14Probably, I can't remember. But yeah, you're probably right.
- 6:17I know. No, he's Dimension to any more
- 6:20quite a lot. Yeah, I don't remember when I
- 6:22first heard the space but Just remember love and I'm sure it
- 6:27away so can't pin it down but it was a long time ago.
- 6:33It was, it was it like, at this, this bit of a weird question,
- 6:36but I'm just gonna be real. When I discovered them, I
- 6:38remember like listening to them when I was very young.
- 6:42Not not really kind of putting the name to a face that kind of
- 6:45thing. And then in more, recent years,
- 6:47probably like five was 10 years ago.
- 6:50There was that moment of like discovering a couple of their
- 6:52songs and just falling in love. Like just like, oh yeah.
- 6:56Like every sounds amazing. Yeah, I think it was the same
- 6:59for me. Like, say you first hear him and
- 7:02Then, yeah, when you get, when you're young, we coming up music
- 7:05or whatever. And then, yeah, one day, you
- 7:07just hear a trout apartment. I can't actually remember my
- 7:09journey into loving them. I think the first thing I heard
- 7:13was Panic, actually, I'd say pretty fair, which is not one of
- 7:17the best necessarily, but I like to panic.
- 7:20And then, yeah, I mean, as a guitar player, when you hear,
- 7:24you know, anything that Johnny Mars done, You just hear it and
- 7:28you just saw. I like I remember hearing
- 7:30William is really nothing, it really is really nothing.
- 7:32And you see that here that guitar pain instantly you just
- 7:36you become successful instantly, you know, if you're a guitar
- 7:39player and you hear the complexity of what he's doing
- 7:41and you're always trying to push yourself, you just naturally
- 7:44gravitate to them. I do feel as well.
- 7:46That like it change when you become a musician, the way that
- 7:50you listen to albums the way you approach.
- 7:54Music is different from from there on.
- 7:57Did you have the thing? Like I have this thing?
- 7:59Where if I go to a goat a gig and I watch a band play Live.
- 8:04Even if they're the best band ever, or, you know, it doesn't
- 8:07doesn't matter who they are. I just sit there, like, that's a
- 8:10tune. That's no, that's wrong.
- 8:12I do. And I'm not even trying to be a
- 8:14dick about it. I'm not sitting at.
- 8:16It's just that if I hear it, can't unhear it.
- 8:19Yeah, but see, when I listen to music for me, it's more of a
- 8:25feeling that I get are never And this is why I mess up, was a lot
- 8:29of my covers because I'm so I just feel it, it's really weird
- 8:34to say, but I'm not so focused on that, what whether the right
- 8:38notes, like a lot of times I watch something on YouTube or,
- 8:41you know, I'll go to a gig. I went Oasis in Shifu 2005.
- 8:45And then everyone was like, ahh, Liam's voice was, I won't say
- 8:48the word terrible tonight, and I was thinking to myself, I just
- 8:51didn't even notice. I was just like watching him.
- 8:53Like whoa. And I just felt the energy.
- 8:57And to me, I know that sounds really like, what's the word he
- 9:02says? I'm making it up and I'm just
- 9:04saying that but I promise you. That's how I feel generally.
- 9:06I just like, I get so into the Zone, I don't even notice stuff
- 9:10like myself, so I get what you mean.
- 9:12I mean, the first time that I saw Metallica live in concert,
- 9:16it was similar like I was already a musician by that point
- 9:20and I remember thinking, like, part of my, my small part of my
- 9:24mind was like, oh, you know, it's not like, Greatest live set
- 9:28ever in like you know there were a bit older and such but like
- 9:31the bigger part of me was so blown away by like how massive
- 9:35it was and how intense it was and because for them they really
- 9:40make a big deal of that the spectacle in the performance.
- 9:43Yeah yeah yeah and I was the same as you.
- 9:46I was blown away and I still am. I think what I meant more was
- 9:50just like I feel like a lot of people that I speak to the
- 9:54aren't musicians, if they, if I would say that to them, Like if
- 9:57I turned to a friend and be like oh, that was Out Of Tune, I just
- 10:00as a joke, they won't hear that. But I feel like other musicians
- 10:03will keep ya like that. I simply saying you're more
- 10:06tuned into to the musicianship. Yeah.
- 10:09Definitely. It's like a blessing and a
- 10:10curse. It's like a good thing because
- 10:13it means any other musician. You can kind of speak to and you
- 10:16connect with instantly but at the same time it's a curse
- 10:20because it's like you can't unhear that and it's like God
- 10:23damn it. I think it's.
- 10:26Yes. I'm like that with my own stuff
- 10:28when I listen to other people's stuff.
- 10:30I'm never judgmental. But oh God, everything that I
- 10:33do. You know, it's, it's, it's
- 10:35always sounds okay. The time.
- 10:36And then I look back and I'm like a whore that was terrible,
- 10:39you know, even some of the covers that gain momentum.
- 10:41Now when I watch them all I can see is what I did wrong.
- 10:44And I'm like, ah, I hear these notes and I hear the things I
- 10:47did wrong and no one else ever comments on them, and I'm like,
- 10:50oh, that's interesting. Natural progression, actually,
- 10:53although I know that feeling like I can remember times when I
- 10:57was very young and my first band, and I come off stage just
- 11:01like upset, like, oh, that was her tune.
- 11:03That was bad. And then, I'd go to a friend and
- 11:05of like another band and I'd be like, oh my God, that was
- 11:07terrible. Did you hear that?
- 11:08And he's like here. What?
- 11:09I? Yeah, definitely.
- 11:14Yeah. I used to be in a theater show.
- 11:17Oh, cool. Funny enough is a Michael
- 11:19Jackson tribute show back in the back in about 12 years ago and I
- 11:24went to audition. It was in Blackpool in.
- 11:27The globe fear. So it was a big production.
- 11:30And I joined later joined, like I was the last person to join
- 11:33the cast and I went in, and I auditioned live to the songs, I
- 11:39was playing the Beats Solo. And then after that I was just
- 11:42doing some riffing basically on electorate cool.
- 11:45And I swear to God, I've messy up like, honestly, if you'd
- 11:50heard what I did, you would have probably laughed, but I did it.
- 11:54And I just thought honestly that feeling in my stomach is upset.
- 11:57Sick. They were like celebrities you
- 11:59know singers that we were doing the show as well for how
- 12:02embarrassing I've just paid Savory and afters.
- 12:04The threats come up to me was that?
- 12:06That was amazing. I'm so glad we got you on board
- 12:08you're going to make another what's exqueeze me love.
- 12:11What I just did was just like to me, it was the worst thing ever.
- 12:15Let me go - you messed us up but you improvised and you just got
- 12:20like you just got through it and got through it.
- 12:21Yeah, I just, I just bounce great, but then to me in Sauron.
- 12:25See my hand was shaking like this.
- 12:29I think part of being an artist is being very self-critical
- 12:34because yes, you have to be that to a degree to be able to
- 12:38progress to the level. You want to get to, you have to
- 12:42be focused on what you can improve.
- 12:44You know, do you we sell really? Yeah, no, I completely agree.
- 12:50I have the exact same mindset as you.
- 12:52I think I'm Yeah I definitely my own worst critic with everything
- 12:57I do but like given that that's the case.
- 13:01Like how do you deal with criticisms?
- 13:03You get from, I don't know, maybe from people on YouTube or
- 13:06or other people in the industry like how do you how do you deal
- 13:11with with that in general but what's your approach to
- 13:13criticism? I listened to it and if it's
- 13:18something that I've already fought myself because most stuff
- 13:21I've already thought about myself anyway.
- 13:23So by the time someone I'm already like, man.
- 13:26I'm like, yeah, I know. Yeah.
- 13:27Thank you. Do you know what?
- 13:29I absolutely am fine with criticism.
- 13:32As long as it's Justified, as long as it's warranted.
- 13:34Like, you know, I'll get the odd comment saying that's out of
- 13:37time. You're not playing perfect
- 13:39Rhythm you, to practice with a metronome.
- 13:42You know, that's totally wrong. You met and some of the things
- 13:44I'm like, actually, he's right. I can hear that.
- 13:47And, and generally, there's even been comments are responding to
- 13:49up in like, yeah, you're right actually and you know, nothing's
- 13:52ever going to be perfect when you do down.
- 13:54Um but when you get comments that are just, you know, I just
- 13:57you know they're not true that's just easy for me to say
- 14:01something true. You know, but lucky for me I've
- 14:05been massively blessed to have a lot of positivity towards what
- 14:09I've done. So for me you know if it was a
- 14:13lot of negativity compared to belly and positive on my
- 14:16struggle but I find the ratio is pretty good.
- 14:19I'm I can't complain. You know, I thought that's
- 14:22tricky when you do start. You know, like like for instance
- 14:26with me I'm starting to get more positivity now but it was like a
- 14:32long time of like apathy and then lots of hate and then
- 14:38eventually some positives, but I feel like it's largely
- 14:43outweighed by apathy and hey, and then, you know, but I if
- 14:48anything I prefer hate apples, I think apathy is the worst.
- 14:51When you put something out and just gets nothing, it's like Oh
- 14:54yeah, believe me, believe me. You can look at my channel now,
- 14:58think I'm doing. Okay.
- 15:00I remember, I started posting videos on Facebook first thing
- 15:03about 2015. Yeah, that's what.
- 15:06When I very first started, I was posting about 2015 first, I just
- 15:09started post on with my family and friends crickets, literally
- 15:14crickets. No one cared, maybe one like
- 15:16from my from my aunt in America because she was proud of me and
- 15:20shouldn't see meet years. Nobody cared at all and that
- 15:23went on. About two and a half years but I
- 15:26still kept putting them out there, putting them out there
- 15:27because I was enjoying it. And then even on YouTube, it
- 15:31took a good three years for me to get anywhere on YouTube, I
- 15:36would say. So did you start that?
- 15:38Because I was going to, this was going to be on the question.
- 15:40I was going to ask you actually. So, right, so you started with
- 15:44with the Facebook. Did you?
- 15:45How long after that? Did you set up the YouTube?
- 15:49Think I set up to YouTube. Set up YouTube in about probably
- 15:542015 as well, Rand the time. Yeah, the time I was just
- 15:59posting metal stuff actually because I used to lie, still a
- 16:03massive, you to know I've seen Metallica's.
- 16:05Welcome to worry Wembley Stadium.
- 16:07And yes, you're right closure. Yes, I would just, I would just
- 16:11cut in there as well because I find this really interesting I
- 16:14started out in metal like a playing in metal bands, right?
- 16:18And then somewhere in like 2013 when I sort of Stop being in
- 16:23bands and I was sort of forced to do acoustic.
- 16:26Suddenly it was like like acoustic from there on and then
- 16:30yeah, ever. Since then it's been acoustic
- 16:32acoustic in the experimental orders of us that I still love
- 16:35metal as well. But it's like such an
- 16:37interesting transition. It's like so is because I sigh
- 16:46learning guitar when in like the 90s and funny enough to be one
- 16:50of the first on the first hour. Albums that I started to learn.
- 16:54Well, the first tab book I bought was Californication wire,
- 16:57but it was bought for me, as a Christmas present.
- 16:59So I just started learning because it's the only thing I
- 17:02have, I didn't, you know, I didn't know that ultimate
- 17:05guitar, whatever back then, I was just just, my dad gave me a
- 17:08guitar. Would the tabs correct?
- 17:10Because I find like a lot of tab books are incorrect or looking
- 17:14back. Probably not, probably not.
- 17:17Although this was an official one though.
- 17:18It was official, okay. All right.
- 17:22The official ones on correct. Like, was apparently some of the
- 17:26base Tabs are wrong for Metallica ones.
- 17:30See back then. I wish I had it with smartphone
- 17:32because I can listen back into what I was playing and see I
- 17:35mean at the time I thought I was doing all right, but maybe
- 17:37looking back, they will completely wrong.
- 17:41But yeah, right. So yeah for me, I started
- 17:44progressing and then my friend showed me.
- 17:47It was, it was in the late 90s from Papa Papa Roach Limp
- 17:50Biscuit, Linkin Park, all these bands around and my mate showed
- 17:55me that, what song was that you played last resort, remember
- 17:58last resort, but I put my life into my friend.
- 18:11Yeah, so it blew my mind and then from that point, I was
- 18:16like, okay, let me try and do that.
- 18:17And then I listen to them and then, you know, I went to
- 18:21college it. Amused.
- 18:22Corsair and the teacher played Unbroken by Pantera wound.
- 18:27A yeah, that was part of our music lesson because he was a
- 18:30metal Edge. I heard that.
- 18:31And I'm so lucky. How do you hear, how do I do
- 18:34that? So I started doing that and
- 18:36then, you know, I went on to any Killswitch Engage.
- 18:39We're getting big at the time and machine.
- 18:40Herbs and oils are, okay, and we'll do that and it just what
- 18:43you just because you're trying to learn an instrument, you just
- 18:46gets progressively harder and harder and harder.
- 18:48And I think that's why I went down that route but I mean, but
- 18:51I loved the music obviously, you know, it's the same but I think
- 18:56I've forgotten the question now, what was I even trying to answer
- 18:58their their debts? That's fine.
- 19:00We'll get back to that. I will say that like I'm very
- 19:03jealous of your music education at school because mine was
- 19:07nothing like that. Like I was growing up on metal
- 19:09and rock and all of that. Stuff.
- 19:11But like my music lessons. I went in there thinking like I
- 19:14should be great. You know I love music.
- 19:16I get to learn and all this stuff and it was literally just
- 19:19fucking keyboards for three years.
- 19:22Yeah, and like very little mostly Theory really but like,
- 19:27music theory, music hit, but not like interesting music theory
- 19:31where you learn something. It was like, I don't know,
- 19:35connecting like Indian classical music to unlike the history of
- 19:39and which Is fine. It was like, initially
- 19:42interesting but then it got like really boring because we would
- 19:45never experiment or do anything other than that.
- 19:48And then, yeah, occasionally, you'd have like that lesson
- 19:51where everyone sits in a circle and just like, it's some
- 19:55fucking, I don't know, Tom's or where we have African drums and
- 19:59shit, you know, did you know what my music education at
- 20:04school was probably like that but for some reason, I went to
- 20:09college and decided that I In to do a music course, although I
- 20:12did. Okay.
- 20:13Sorry. I've misunderstood decided
- 20:14something called to access access to music and it was it
- 20:18was called contemporary popular. Music was the name of the force.
- 20:22I don't know why I decided to do that by did.
- 20:26It makes makes perfect sense if you're into music to do a music
- 20:28course, I didn't even think of that time.
- 20:31I was just a basic guitar player than I I love music but I don't
- 20:34know why I thought I could do it, but I did an audition and I
- 20:38got in And then I had to play a song in front of like the the
- 20:42guy actually the same guy and I just paid some good jazz thing
- 20:46I've learned on on this DVD and I got in and then from there we
- 20:50just went you know it's just everything built for their
- 20:54thing. It's funny looking back.
- 20:57It actually is like how the journey progresses and we're
- 21:01take shot. I often think that about my
- 21:04music taste these days. I mean, it's I'm into like
- 21:07literally everything all different genres, everything,
- 21:10and yeah? Yeah.
- 21:11Just like the creative stuff is interesting.
- 21:14Because now I've started writing music again, just started
- 21:19writing some stuff for an upcoming EP and like, I'm
- 21:22listening back to, like what I did with my last solo EP.
- 21:26It's just so different, so I don't know.
- 21:29I think these things do change over time and your ideas but
- 21:33certainly the things you listen to largely shape.
- 21:36What you do and yeah. Yes.
- 21:41What you say, bring it, bring it back like you said.
- 21:44I think that's what happened. So I was used to paying
- 21:46complicated met over some stuff at this time.
- 21:50I was obviously still I was went gonna go in to see Oasis.
- 21:54I was still into this stuff at the same Time.
- 21:57But I think with like you say when when I maybe got older it
- 22:02was just more confined to my bedroom playing with an acoustic
- 22:05guitar you know, and then you hear the Smiths, he hit us up
- 22:09joining Milestone, which is easy as complicated as the stuff.
- 22:11You a nonmetal records when you try and play that stuff.
- 22:15It was just a natural like, whoa, you know, so yeah, what do
- 22:22you think about the key things that you've learned in this
- 22:24time? Because obviously, you know, you
- 22:26It with just uploading a couple of videos here and there around
- 22:28on Facebook and YouTube. And then as you said it took you
- 22:31like three years to really get some steam going on YouTube.
- 22:35So like in in this period let's let's call it that.
- 22:38Yeah, the last five years at what are the key things that
- 22:41you've learned in that time, in that time, about both, you know,
- 22:45releasing things on YouTube and also just in terms of your music
- 22:48like what the key lessons Good question.
- 22:53Understand if I'm a dancer to be honest.
- 22:56Like I say like it's weird because in terms of YouTube like
- 23:04I say let me answer the last questions briefly and just say I
- 23:08was uploading like metal stuff. I was uploading random little
- 23:11clips and then the moment it started to change some.
- 23:15What am I about about 50 subscribers?
- 23:17Maybe at the time? Maybe, maybe not even that and
- 23:20Liam Gallagher of well. Album will support.
- 23:25This is the first solo album, right?
- 23:28Yeah. I mean I've covered every song
- 23:30on the album almost on much. Do you think I know what the
- 23:31name of it was? Is it wasn't as you were with
- 23:34one before it. I'm going crazy.
- 23:38You know the album on talking about anyway - yeah, I know, I
- 23:41remember it got a lot of publicity and it was just
- 23:45interesting because it was obviously sounds very obvious to
- 23:49say, but Liam had never done solo stuff before.
- 23:52No, who'd always done solo stuff.
- 23:54Yeah. Yeah, this was Liam's first
- 23:56outing and it was very, as, you know, I tell a lie, no, he had.
- 24:02He had his own band. But this was, yeah, this was
- 24:05still his first record under his name solely and you're actually
- 24:10yes. Oh, he was with beady-eyed in
- 24:11the meantime, then he had a couple of years.
- 24:13Ice. Right?
- 24:13Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:14Yeah. Anyone I know, listen to this
- 24:18because I can't believe the Name Escapes Me.
- 24:19Anyway, living, I'm living in Manchester.
- 24:22The now, so that's probably like sacrilege not knowing this
- 24:26disinformation. Now we'll play a track from
- 24:32Liam. Gallagher then just go over the
- 24:34top. Yeah, but point point being
- 24:38anyway. Regardless of what Avail me out?
- 24:39Was a great album. I remember, I heard actually he
- 24:42did, he give you the gig and then on that geeky, play some
- 24:45eraser songs and then I heard paper crown, he did paper crown
- 24:49in the gig. And I heard paper crown, I was
- 24:52like, whoa, this is this is amazing.
- 24:56It's like the best thing I've heard since since I raced,
- 24:59especially definitely from Liam, what I did, write some video,
- 25:01our swords and I didn't expect anyone to watch my video, but I
- 25:06learn it straight away. What?
- 25:09The day of the Giga? I was at my mom's and I played
- 25:11the guitar. Learn it.
- 25:13I'll poke the video like the next morning.
- 25:16Oh wow. So I had this idea in my head.
- 25:17I wanted to be the first ones upload out, then why?
- 25:20Yeah. So I don't know.
- 25:21And then the video got instantly about 13,000 views in like two
- 25:27days because everyone's heard the song and go mad for it.
- 25:31But even at that time, I got off, couple of hundred
- 25:34subscribers, maybe like maybe I think about 100 or so time and
- 25:39that was amazing. So for all and then I heard the
- 25:42other songs on the album has I will let me try that.
- 25:44So I've got into doing that. And then by the end of the, I'd
- 25:47almost cover the whole album. At that point I started to gain
- 25:50like maybe B203, I would say probably about 350 Souls way
- 25:54into this. So I was my first kind of lesson
- 25:56that like, you know, if you're going to upload something and
- 26:01people, yeah, well to it and they like it, then stick with
- 26:07that theme, you know? Right.
- 26:09So did the whole album, I mean, I did the how I was I wanted to
- 26:12do anyway, but then I started uploading Oasis songs and the
- 26:15momentum started to like slowly build from now and say.
- 26:18So okay, where were you last night?
- 26:21There is you know, if you get people sorry to stop you, if you
- 26:25get people like interested in something, then you should stick
- 26:29with that stick with that theme, you know?
- 26:32And go with that for a while. Gone.
- 26:36You want to say something? So oh no, the only reason II
- 26:39sometimes do, this is just if I think of an interesting follow,
- 26:42I was just as you going to say, did you get a lot of start
- 26:45getting a lot of requests from your fans from that point?
- 26:48Onwards is that when that Yeah, here, and they're here with
- 26:52that. I mean, this is looking back on
- 26:54it now. I mean, you know, at a time it
- 26:56was like the bigger. I couldn't believe it.
- 26:57Five people commented on my video to Me, That - no, but
- 27:01yeah, and then I started doing a lot of storms, did a couple of
- 27:07BDI songs in some no songs. And then around that point,
- 27:12somebody contacted me on YouTube and said, oh, there's a group on
- 27:15Facebook called keeps Music Oasis and there there lies a
- 27:20lot. He's going to get YouTube
- 27:22tutorials and Oasis songs and I joined that and then that was
- 27:27another big part for me as well. I guess I keep one, you could
- 27:30call it h like sharing other platforms at the no, but I
- 27:32joined this Facebook group and we used to share our all our
- 27:36YouTube videos in them, and everyone was like a supportive
- 27:39Community where everyone goes to watch each other's videos
- 27:41comments on each other's videos. Yeah.
- 27:44That was, that was quite a big part of the development, I
- 27:47think, as well, you still part of this because I had this
- 27:50question written down, actually, it's also known as pmo Lads.
- 27:58The way I discovered, this was when I was looking on your
- 28:00Spotify and stuff, it was listed as a playlist.
- 28:02And as I do, this is interesting, and then it's
- 28:04obviously a collection of different musicians all in one
- 28:07place. So I figured it was probably
- 28:09like, as you say, like a community.
- 28:12But yeah, so it's different. It's different.
- 28:14Hello musicians, supporting each other essentially.
- 28:17Yeah. Yeah, not only is it, since it's
- 28:19just a place for people who like to play guitar, want to express
- 28:23themself, a means of private roof at a time, right?
- 28:25Yeah. Somebody say just a like-minded
- 28:27group of people that was actually achieved.
- 28:29What I talked about that was massive, because you start to
- 28:32build relationships with people, which is one thing I've noticed
- 28:35is very, very, very, very important.
- 28:38Yes. As well as good at playing
- 28:39guitar, singing, you need to you need to get on with people.
- 28:44And it was decent there because like I said, you've got natural
- 28:48Square every time you release a video you know there's going to
- 28:50be 20 30 people because you're coming on their videos as well
- 28:54that are all going to comment or going to like it some of them I
- 28:56share it to their friends on their Facebook so that yeah that
- 29:00was that was really good. I'm not on anymore to answer the
- 29:03question because I'm not on Facebook at all.
- 29:06I quit Facebook but all right, how comes Let's get a bit dark
- 29:13around the lockdown, starting to be honest, some sort of things
- 29:17that people's attitudes and things, people were saying, got
- 29:21very political, and it was fun. Yeah, yeah, that's don't waste.
- 29:26Time to die out as an it when that starts happening to be to
- 29:30tell you the truth, I only use Facebook purely as an
- 29:33advertising tool and to keep in touch with family and friends
- 29:36now I yeah, yeah, yeah, my should share the old meme.
- 29:40Other than that, just the fair. Fair play, Man, physically, move
- 29:47moving it Forward. Given that we've spoken a lot
- 29:50about, you know, you doing your covers and how that sort of
- 29:53happened and why you do that. Would you say, you've had much
- 29:58sort of success, with promoting your original music given that,
- 30:03you know, your I suppose like fan base on YouTube, is largely
- 30:08built from that expectation of those come castles because you
- 30:11obviously, I've had other musicians who, you know, who do
- 30:18who regularly do this? Have have kind of said that
- 30:20sometimes they get, you know, a bit of pushback.
- 30:22Like people go like, oh, I don't want to hear this.
- 30:24That when you're going to do your covers instead, okay,
- 30:27what's the general kind of reception to you?
- 30:29Releasing original music. Pretty much exactly what you
- 30:32said definitely definitely are. I think I'm definitely known and
- 30:36lights, way more for my. Don't get me wrong.
- 30:39I mean, outside of the into the world, the magical world of the
- 30:42internet. I do not since a lot of them.
- 30:45I do do Geeks that when, you know, I got, I've been offered
- 30:48Kings closest, I'm just a purely Originals, you know.
- 30:50So in the real world, I'm probably more well-known for my
- 30:53original music. They're my covers but the
- 30:57converse been started on YouTube really.
- 30:58Just because I always had this idea that like if I get big on
- 31:03YouTube for car, Then of us, an original song, and when I post
- 31:07my original song, yeah, we start the people be like, oh my God,
- 31:12you know, I was guaranteed, that was gonna happen.
- 31:15I knew it, and then reality set in, and people like the covers
- 31:19more, which is fine to be honest, because I don't mind,
- 31:23you know, now I'm kind of happy to just, I just like people
- 31:28listening to what I'm doing and people enjoying it, regardless
- 31:32of whether I wrote it or not, you know, So good for me so but
- 31:37with what you're saying it's not like you're saying that they
- 31:40hate your original music, they just prefer the covers so that
- 31:43would imply that there is some positivity that so what's the
- 31:45general kind of feedback? You're getting for your original
- 31:48music? Good.
- 31:50People love it. People really love it.
- 31:51I mean, I've had one of my songs, my recent song was played
- 31:54on my local radio station emotions.
- 31:57Yeah, a few times track of the week and like I'll get us.
- 32:01I did they've got me down for like future events.
- 32:04Star forming only my visual music does do okay.
- 32:09Funny enough, actually, before anything on YouTube ever, took
- 32:12off somehow a page with a million followers on Facebook.
- 32:17Found, one of my original songs and shared it on Facebook.
- 32:20Yeah. And it's not like however, many
- 32:23hundreds of thousands of use. Their didn't get any on YouTube.
- 32:25Obviously, typical. Yeah.
- 32:28So my first, my first actual right sort of notice of me
- 32:31taking off was through my original music.
- 32:33So I would definitely You say, like, people don't dislike it.
- 32:36It's obviously very different from the band's, I'll cover
- 32:39because that's just the way things are, isn't it?
- 32:41You know you just make what you make, right?
- 32:44You can't make you can't just copy.
- 32:46I mean you could if you wanted to but I'm not going to do it.
- 32:49I'm not gonna Papi what what I get popular covers, you know I'm
- 32:53just going to do what I think sounds good.
- 32:54So yeah. Respect.
- 32:59Yes, that's the attitude. I have actually I've got I've
- 33:02kind of gone like Full Throttle with my podcast because this was
- 33:06something I started just randomly I done podcast before
- 33:10and I was like, you know, I had a podcast end and then I was
- 33:13like, should I do my own? I've been thinking about this, I
- 33:15don't know. Soon as I started doing it, it
- 33:18was people seem to dig it and the more I yeah, more positive,
- 33:23it is. So, I don't know, I kind of
- 33:25agree with you. I think if you find Something
- 33:27like, roll with it. I do what you want, do what you
- 33:29love but ultimately push, mainly push the thing that's doing that
- 33:34people respond to the most suppose.
- 33:35Yeah. And you know what, I think I
- 33:37know this integrity and all this stuff as well but at the end of
- 33:40the day the chances of making it.
- 33:42There's so many incredible musicians like you know us
- 33:46included in that I'm not beating myself up.
- 33:48But you know in terms of like I know a lot of people that just
- 33:52play Open Mic nights and impulse who for me, they're way better
- 33:55than people that I'm here. On the radio, but the chance of
- 33:59making it in. Music is so minutely.
- 34:02Slim that if you start to build momentum in something, you start
- 34:06to, you know, get positive feedback.
- 34:09If you've got a chance of making it in some way, you should just
- 34:12go with what's working. Well, I think because the music
- 34:15might never happen is always a passion.
- 34:18I do I but I personally don't I don't really care to be a famous
- 34:23musician. Yeah, I always want to make the
- 34:25music I like and Put it out there.
- 34:27There's a couple of people like it, then that's wicked but I
- 34:31don't want to be in the charts or you know, all this stuff
- 34:33necessarily. So you know, I'm quite happy for
- 34:38me to go with works. I'm not going to turn down the
- 34:43top 10 album you know but it's not my ultimate goals such know.
- 34:48I agree with you. I used two years ago I used to
- 34:51have that attitude like I'm sure many musicians do when they
- 34:54start out like yeah I want to be really famous successful.
- 34:57For everything. Yeah, and then you then you
- 34:59actually, yeah, there's the realization sits in.
- 35:01You play a couple of hundred gigs.
- 35:04You see generally like I think when you start playing because
- 35:08this is the reality, when you start out as a musician, you're
- 35:11playing two new one. I remember my first my last show
- 35:15with my my first metal band. Literally.
- 35:18We play to the fucking sound engineer and my ex-girlfriend
- 35:21that was it. That was how we went out.
- 35:23We played our hearts out and everything but given that we
- 35:27Played together for like three years.
- 35:29All sorts of different venues I think on average, we'd be lucky
- 35:32to get a couple of people in there and that's the reality of
- 35:35the gigging circuit when you're starting.
- 35:38Yeah and yeah keep at it. You have to keep pushing for it
- 35:41but I think yeah, yeah. I came across a lot of bands
- 35:45that particular and for metal, you know, it's arguably even
- 35:51more oversaturated in many ways because everyone kind of sounds
- 35:55the same, so it's very difficult to stick.
- 35:56Out. But I saw some bands that could
- 35:59definitely make it. And yeah, they just they just
- 36:02didn't for whatever reason and I kind of put it down to this.
- 36:06I think in general with music it comes down to who you know you
- 36:13know like if you can get an industry contact just fucking
- 36:17run with it. Don't worry about like Integrity
- 36:20or like, you know, or should I or shouldn't?
- 36:23I just, yeah, if you have the contact, ask them.
- 36:27See what happens. That's number one.
- 36:29And then number two, I think it's a combination of like lock
- 36:35having the right look and shit and this is where I go agree
- 36:38with you. The whole not caring about
- 36:40becoming because like for me I don't really buy into the idea
- 36:45of doing it, you know, via the pop charts or what I got with
- 36:51me. My goal is to do like
- 36:53independent music and if it gets he gets big or whatever, but I
- 36:58want to do it independently. I don't want to have anyone
- 37:00owning it or anyone controlling it because.
- 37:02Yeah, I think it's bollocks. And this funnily enough leads me
- 37:05into a random question. I was going to ask you because I
- 37:08thought this was interesting to get your opinion on this, as a
- 37:11fellow musician. Like, what are your thoughts on
- 37:14like talent shows like Britain's Got Talent and X Factor?
- 37:17Because, to be honest, you know, you're very talented musician.
- 37:22You could go on there. I've thought about it, you know,
- 37:25over the years But I think the main thing that puts me off is
- 37:29just how it's kind of a spectacle and not in the good
- 37:34way, you know, it's like you go on there and it's not about your
- 37:40talent. It's about, can you sell their
- 37:43TV show you entertaining? Do you fit their mold?
- 37:46You know, like, very few musicians on their actually make
- 37:50it and are continuously successful.
- 37:53Normally it's like a couple of years or a year and then that's
- 37:56it. They Throw you out and you know.
- 37:58Yeah, I mean that that is true, that is true.
- 38:02But you know funny enough that can do music is this going to be
- 38:05like that as well. You know, live solutely.
- 38:07Yeah. You know, you kind of have to be
- 38:10an Entertainer and I have a story to you in a spectacle as
- 38:12well. So I don't think it's actually
- 38:14that far removed from the reality of the music industry.
- 38:17I'm sure there's people out there that are way better,
- 38:19musicians aren't famous. Yeah, however, what was my view
- 38:24on the tan shows? When I was a bit younger
- 38:28actually, when I was very young and they first started, I love
- 38:31them. Yeah, put it brilliant.
- 38:33I love seeing people sing on my TV you know and it was funny as
- 38:36well and then you know I got into that age where I just found
- 38:41it totally cringe and a lot of people were saying to me go on
- 38:44go you should go and you should go and expats are as people said
- 38:48to me today on La, awesome, maybe you would never see me
- 38:51dead on X Factor Me Over My Dead Body.
- 38:57I would never sell out my soul to, you know, and then
- 39:01obviously, you know, the years went by and probably lies
- 39:05somewhere in between the two. Now, I don't watch him
- 39:07necessarily I'm not against them as such.
- 39:12I think. My biggest problem we're going
- 39:14on, there would be what you said.
- 39:16Is that actually my biggest problem with going on, there
- 39:18would be that I would always be the guy from X Factor or the guy
- 39:23from Brittany Italian. If I ever got anywhere in wood,
- 39:26don't be like, you know. Oh and then buries a really good
- 39:29musician. Maybe like our a department.
- 39:31Yeah, it's remembering. You want expert to?
- 39:33Yeah. And I don't want that attached
- 39:35to me. I wouldn't want that stigma
- 39:38attached to my name. That would be the worst thing
- 39:40for me, but I mean, I'm sure he has done good for people who've
- 39:45gone on there. People like me, you've
- 39:47considered it and gone on there, even if they haven't become
- 39:50famous, I'm sure their profile raise the bit, you know.
- 39:55I just think that's like, It is fine if you don't care about the
- 39:58whole manufactured thing and you're happy to just toe the
- 40:01line and do what you're told. Then great.
- 40:03But like, I very rarely can, I can think of an example of a
- 40:08genuinely good song that came out of like, an X Factor winner
- 40:12or like a runner-up or something.
- 40:14Like, the only musician. I really dug at one time, was
- 40:19probably that James Arthur guy. And then, yeah, that's the
- 40:24thing, but I feel like when he In on that show.
- 40:26He was like you and me he'd been doing it.
- 40:29Yeah. Is he had a raw talent?
- 40:31He was a good songwriter like he he came on there an original
- 40:35song and it was excellent. And now he's doing the pop thing
- 40:39and it's like I feel like what was special about him is now
- 40:44gone. It's like, it's not, it's not
- 40:47the same anymore. Yeah, I'll get you a, he
- 40:49probably had the same one so though he probably went for it
- 40:51and then, yeah, it was going well when he fought, I'll run
- 40:53with it. This might be my only chance
- 40:55ever to do anything. Do you know what?
- 40:57This preview on to another thing?
- 40:59I think there's a lot of, a lot of people get down on musicians
- 41:02for the type of music they play. And, you know, they might see
- 41:05like Ariana Grande and the varnish and Below.
- 41:08How dare you disgusting. Madonna song, you don't even
- 41:12know but you don't know what people really, you know,
- 41:15listening to him playing behind closed doors and what their fans
- 41:18of so, but see that's the, that's the danger you see, right
- 41:21there. What you're saying, if you're
- 41:22like a band, that's known. Okay, let's say you come up on
- 41:27your own accord. You don't have that expectation.
- 41:31You don't have that label attached to you, like Ariana
- 41:33Grande if she want like you say she might, she might be into all
- 41:36sorts of things and she's somehow not allowed to play
- 41:39those things. Where as I feel like if you Come
- 41:41up on your own accord and unlike make it yourself, you can kind
- 41:45of do whatever you want. You know, to an extent.
- 41:48Yeah. I like there are certain
- 41:49musicians that you know like someone, if take someone like
- 41:52post Malone, as an example, you know, he regularly placed like
- 41:56rock music and no one like you get a few people that I like,
- 42:00what. But the difference with him is
- 42:02that he was really slogging it for many, many years.
- 42:06And he came up and he got his opportunity and he rolled with
- 42:09it, but he's very vocal about. Liking all types of music and
- 42:13yeah, I was it and does it well, I think but you know yeah but
- 42:22like I said I think that's that. I think that's part of the
- 42:24industry. I think I think the industry
- 42:27making it, I don't think it's necessarily what musicians might
- 42:33think is in terms of you know you keep your integrity of the
- 42:36whole way. I mean, John Lennon used to say
- 42:40that. The things he was subjected to
- 42:43being part of the Beatles and becoming famous or so soldiers
- 42:47showing and so, you know, so that like they literally stole
- 42:51his soul for him. He was miserable by the time
- 42:53help come out. He was depressed.
- 42:55He was totally like, you know, and even he say, we're not with
- 42:59sold out.we nothing like they used to be and we look up, it
- 43:02was more like, you know, best thing ever.
- 43:05But I think the music industry. Yeah.
- 43:08It's you don't have nowhere near as much as controls.
- 43:11What we might want there to be and we want dream of when we
- 43:15think of being a musician. So I don't you think being an
- 43:17unsigned independent musician, isn't as bad as what the stigma
- 43:21that surrounds it. You don't agree with the things
- 43:25you want to do a out what you want to do.
- 43:27That's the ultimate power isn't these.
- 43:28This is the key. This is kind of what I wanted to
- 43:31allude to as well, because I feel like a lot of even big big
- 43:34musicians are trying to make that move.
- 43:37Like Metallica, did it back in somewhere?
- 43:41The mid 2010s, they created their own record label and moved
- 43:45everything to that because they wanted to own their music and
- 43:47everyone's like, what would you mean they didn't own their
- 43:49music? No they didn't.
- 43:50The record company owned their music and like with that comes
- 43:56many things, it's not just about not owning your music and not
- 43:59making the full extent of the money that you're owed from it.
- 44:01But also there's an expectation, you know?
- 44:05Like the record companies have been like, right, you have to
- 44:07create Three albums in five years as part of our contract
- 44:14and it's like, well not everyone's creative process
- 44:17works that way. Some people take longer some
- 44:20people can put out music regularly.
- 44:22You know, like for instance recently the Spotify CEO said
- 44:25that bullshit about Laguna musicians should be making music
- 44:28more regularly and blah, blah blah and it's like, dude, you're
- 44:32so I touch. You have no idea how this works.
- 44:38The only person like that in the in music, even he doesn't make
- 44:43like, I know, everyone hates you, and I know if I'm Hazel to
- 44:46get it as well, I think they do. Yeah, a lot of people want.
- 44:50A lot of people, I know do. All right.
- 44:53Loves the stuff that he did before his famous and yeah, fuck
- 44:56album and around that time, the folk music that he was making so
- 45:00good. But I feel like he might be the
- 45:03only one who's still would gain some control over, what he
- 45:06releases and when he releases it.
- 45:08It because he hasn't, he's straight a little bit in recent
- 45:11years, but he's taking these gaps for like, you know, two
- 45:14years before you mix album. I wonder if he's kept some of
- 45:18these control maybe he seems like he might have to agree.
- 45:21I think so. Yeah, I mean, because like there
- 45:24are musicians that do it. I know Mac Demarco is another
- 45:27example of a musician who's done that, but and there were many
- 45:32people who because he released an album in 2019 and that was
- 45:35the first one that was under independent.
- 45:38It was a drastic difference in the sound and the theme I guess
- 45:44and there's a lot of people who critics who were just kind of
- 45:47like maybe this isn't a good idea for them to be independent.
- 45:49Maybe there should be like some degree of control over it but I
- 45:53think the key thing is like, if the musician gets to do whatever
- 45:55they want, It can only be good for the music, but at the same
- 46:00time you do need a, some people around you saying, like this is
- 46:03a bad idea, maybe you should do this, maybe you shouldn't do
- 46:06that, but not but not people who get so much of a say that like
- 46:11they can they can like change the direction of the music
- 46:14completely when they have nothing to do with it, like if
- 46:17they're, if they're involved in some way.
- 46:19I think it's a good thing but if it's like recognized Executives
- 46:23who just seeing dollar signs and they don't care about the
- 46:27creative. Reaction.
- 46:28That's the I think wider issues Stephanie.
- 46:32Yeah, anyway, let's bring it back to you because it's about
- 46:35you, you started releasing your music in a more professional
- 46:40capacity via Spotify. Back in 2018, was it difficult
- 46:45to get on there? Talk to us a little bit about
- 46:47the process to getting on Spotify, because I've managed to
- 46:50do it for my podcast, but that was kind of through a
- 46:53distributor and I was able to do it for free and stuff.
- 46:56But for music And I understand it's a little bit trickier.
- 46:59It's not straightforward. Like how did you achieve that?
- 47:05Is it if I'm honest with you it was just a case of me.
- 47:11Yeah. Going for a distributor and just
- 47:12uploaded, you know. Okay.
- 47:14There was no other. I mean, maybe, I don't know,
- 47:17maybe someone behind the scenes, gave me a little leg up or
- 47:19something, but as far as I know, I just put my stuff on there,
- 47:23you know, I'll pay for the right to put it on, then I put it on
- 47:25there, right? So you do have a paid paid to do
- 47:27it then is it like? Oh yeah.
- 47:33I don't have any sort of interest from people who put me
- 47:36on there for me now. So what is that like a monthly
- 47:39or, you know, who's not getting for free?
- 47:45I well, that's the thing. I don't think you can.
- 47:47If it's music. I don't think it's possible.
- 47:49Yeah, yeah. But do you pay like regularly
- 47:52for that then? Or is that just a one-off thing?
- 47:54And now your musics always there?
- 47:56It's not just a yearly membership through through
- 48:01through a Seder name. Hey, you don't have to give me
- 48:03details. I was just curious about like
- 48:05the process, to be honest. Like how ya?
- 48:07Like she's pay for a membership upload music.
- 48:09I've got covers license so I can all covered with me before our
- 48:12pay a little bit more for that which I'm going to do soon.
- 48:15Actually people at home I'm going to be putting the covers
- 48:18album out but yeah anyway, yeah well that's found that that fits
- 48:22in nicely as a segue to what I wanted to ask you Nets like
- 48:26given that we've had more time in the lockdown.
- 48:28Like I know that you work full-time and such.
- 48:30But do you have have you had More time to kind of work on
- 48:35your own music because of the lockdown.
- 48:38And we're going to be seeing some more kind of original music
- 48:42from you as well as the covers always the covers the main thing
- 48:45that we're looking at the moment.
- 48:49Very good question. I had an album planned where
- 48:52it's come out this year the time that I had it, the time I came
- 48:56up with the idea and I wrote two songs and stuff you know I only
- 48:59had about 800 subscribers so maybe you know I I say only
- 49:03that's that was brilliant. But compared to now it's you
- 49:06know what? You went down close to about 2k
- 49:08or was 14, I think 13k. I think I'm at 12.5 something
- 49:14like that minute. That's gone up since the last
- 49:17time I went on your channel Jesus.
- 49:20Yeah. I'm getting about 200 a day, so
- 49:22I'll be holding if you guys. Yeah, but I know it's mad.
- 49:25He took me, it took me, I think three and a half years to get to
- 49:28a thousand and it's taken me on fire.
- 49:33Mumps to get to 12. So it's all the time in
- 49:35lockdown, everyone's got all the time in the world and they're
- 49:37like, hey who's this guy? Do keep getting recommend?
- 49:39Oh my God, this guy is amazing. Okay, lot of comments that you
- 49:43from people just like, I thought it was going to be crap and then
- 49:48listen to it was really good and I was like, ah, thanks to best
- 49:53ever since I saw Susan Boyle on that talent show, I never make
- 49:57that, that error. I mean, I mean shitty to judge
- 50:00people on the way they look anyway, but like Like it has
- 50:03fuck all to do with with musical Talent.
- 50:05It's like like what. But like in general, it's like I
- 50:12always just sit there and just go right.
- 50:14Let's see, let's see what they have to offer and it's really
- 50:17can go either way. But I think a big giveaway as
- 50:20well is like how someone record something.
- 50:24So I guess you create views and like because I see sometimes
- 50:27like if it's going to be bad, it will usually be like the person
- 50:30hasn't like, Not necessarily that it's bad quality camera or
- 50:36something. But like more that like how
- 50:37they've chosen to film it. Like if they do it like
- 50:39portrayed they've set it somewhere and it's you know
- 50:42Louise okay this person knows what they're doing and yeah,
- 50:46yeah exactly yeah I mean yeah awesome make those judgments
- 50:50today you as a human being you have to make some judgments on
- 50:53what you think somebody could, which is possible.
- 50:56Not why it's important to try and present your thumbnails and
- 51:01stuff like that for any aspiring YouTube people.
- 51:04It is important to do that stuff.
- 51:05Yeah. What was the question?
- 51:13Well, actually it was it was regarding your upcoming music.
- 51:17I've got a lot of questions here.
- 51:18I mean, lets you know, your most recent track That You released
- 51:21was they wanted it all which You released on June 14th to going,
- 51:28right? And what you see this, this is
- 51:30the thing like they're all listed as demo is but they're
- 51:34good quality like production-wise do you know it's
- 51:36a solid stuff it gives it gives a good idea of kind of like the
- 51:39type of music that you're going for.
- 51:42And like the question I have here is, yeah, like, can we
- 51:45expect an EP in 2020 given that you know, that's the last time
- 51:49we got music from you. So yeah, so that's tricky thing
- 51:54because I had this idea that I was going to record.
- 51:57I've got about 20 songs or so, okay.
- 52:01And I was going to put on an albumin or soap set on doing it.
- 52:06And then all of a sudden, you know, my YouTube went crazy and
- 52:10you know, I thought free. 2,000 views on one video and then
- 52:13somebody on Reddit told me you're doing so well, on the
- 52:17them out numbers you're getting four covers is crazy, why don't
- 52:20you put them on Spotify and it loads of people in the comments,
- 52:23the same put them on, put put them on Spotify want to listen
- 52:26to it wherever I go and I thought hmm.
- 52:28Maybe I should focus on doing that because again, it's that
- 52:33it's that argument of, you know, if I've got a wave and I want to
- 52:37ride it for a little bit, I can put my originals out mi in two
- 52:40years time, in two years. Time of the covers.
- 52:42No, no of my care anymore. So, you know, you could you
- 52:46could kind of do a mixture, you know?
- 52:49So like have have like an album an original album that features
- 52:53a couple of covers on it. And yeah I forbade that I came.
- 52:58Concept actually, for an album called 50/50 where I have to use
- 53:03original songs and 50% covers are for about that as well.
- 53:07But the only problem is some of my visions of recorded in a
- 53:10studio in from proper producers, and then the covers because
- 53:13we're in lockdown, is not going to happen.
- 53:15So there's going to be a blatant.
- 53:17Mismatch of, you know, professional shooter re-recorded
- 53:20songs and then you'll home demo music ones.
- 53:24So, the verdict is still out on whether I love.
- 53:27Now, mama, I really am. We're at Sea.
- 53:30I'm not gonna lie to you that. I'm going to write this wave of
- 53:34the covers being, probably more prominently now in two or three
- 53:38weeks, and one about me and someone else comes along and
- 53:40then I'll get back onto the original stuff.
- 53:42It's like, I was saying to you before earlier in the
- 53:46conversation, we were talking about, it's like riding this
- 53:48wave. I think it's.
- 53:49Yeah, you go, you go with what's working, you know, go with
- 53:52what's, what's Poppin Off the most?
- 53:54And yeah I don't think you can go wrong, really, especially if
- 53:58your audience. Is kind of saying like, hey we
- 53:59want this, give us more of this. It's like, crazy not to, and a
- 54:04point just to say, as well, it's not like, I'm just doing this
- 54:07and like, oh yeah, that's going to make me money.
- 54:08So I would do that. I did, I actually enjoyed it.
- 54:11The stuff that I'm being asked to do is a, is a passion of mine
- 54:14as well. I love working out how other
- 54:16people based, on some do, my own arrangements.
- 54:19So really, it's not even. Like, I'm just like, you know,
- 54:22we want to get my visuals out there, but they want to cover of
- 54:25Wannabe by a Spice Girls. I just By the way.
- 54:33No online after I, what I want to see that, that would be
- 54:36amazing. I mean, version of Baby One More
- 54:40Time by Britney Spears. Hey, I want to see it, man.
- 54:43We all want to see them probably get 13,000 unfollowers.
- 54:47What do that? But nah, yeah.
- 54:49I know I can do like, given what I've heard already.
- 54:54I can tell that you drop down. It sounds sick and I know
- 54:57everyone that what is going to watch.
- 54:59This would agree with me on that.
- 55:00Like there's thank you. Want to go?
- 55:01We'll see. In the sea, like if you re one
- 55:09of my Christmas, Brittany album 2000s when she's faced.
- 55:14Why not man? Why not?
- 55:15If it's okay. So let's, let's switch it up a
- 55:20little bit, talk to me a little bit about, you know, your day
- 55:24job. You don't have to give me
- 55:25specifics. But like, the, the bigger
- 55:26question I think that's here is, like, how do you kind of
- 55:29balance, you know, having that day job?
- 55:32And and music and is it difficult to manage?
- 55:37What are the biggest challenges we've gots to that?
- 55:41Yeah, it's difficult to manage. You know, some of my best ideas
- 55:44come to me when I'm working with you're so annoying.
- 55:47I mean I've had jobs in the past which is very clear about saying
- 55:50now, because they've gone where I'm just rattling, they dreamed
- 55:54write lyrics to songs, but for like an hour on a Post-It note,
- 55:59you know, and then and he don't ruin my head and then I'm not
- 56:02doing my work, you know. So he loves walks in my job that
- 56:06I'm doing now. I actually really enjoy the work
- 56:09is so intense. I work in an electro, leave it
- 56:14at that. So it's quite intense, it's
- 56:16quite intense, quite mental. So don't have a, I don't have a
- 56:19lot of mental space that you can be drifting off.
- 56:23So it is difficult because I want to spend more time doing
- 56:27music. You know, I want all I ever want
- 56:30from music. Remember, We spend covers all
- 56:33the plane and parts or pay my regionals.
- 56:35It's just an enough set up, you know, 2,000 pound a month.
- 56:39So that's the work and I can put more time into it.
- 56:42That is my ultimate goal in life to like 2,000 pound a month,
- 56:46from music being sorted. So I think is difficult because
- 56:52I have this passion and I always think about how much I could be
- 56:55doing right now. Like on this album would be out
- 56:58tomorrow but if I wasn't working, you know, and as love
- 57:01to do it but It's difficult? Yeah, it's difficult.
- 57:07I don't really know what the answer is.
- 57:08How a manager? I'm not sure, I do.
- 57:10I just whenever I've got free time, I do something, you know,
- 57:12so I can do but I could be doing a lot more if I didn't have this
- 57:16job, definitely. I'm kind of in the same boat as
- 57:20you because, okay, I'm unemployed right now, I'm
- 57:23freelancing and stuff. So I'm lucky in that sense that
- 57:25of, you know, being able to put all the time into the YouTube
- 57:28but like, obviously, there's that worry in the back of my
- 57:31mind as soon as I find a job, it's going to be really tricky
- 57:34to find the time and I'm starting with a, I'm gonna work
- 57:37my ass off and make sure it happens.
- 57:39But the same time. It's just, it's just going to
- 57:40get more difficult, it's just the reality of the situation.
- 57:43Yeah. The key thing, the back of my
- 57:45mind is yeah, same as you. I want to make this my living.
- 57:48What can I do to make this my living?
- 57:49Like, what ways can I, because it's not about the money.
- 57:52Like the money is the aspect of like it.
- 57:56Facilitates the, the ability to have the life but like, yeah, if
- 58:01you're doing, it's only because of the money, then there's no
- 58:03soul in it and it will be a negative and yet the content
- 58:08probably shit to be honest. If it's a nasty attitude, many
- 58:12YouTubers, I think have that problem, unfortunately, but the
- 58:15ones that do it purely for the love.
- 58:17I mean you Tell? Because the content is
- 58:19excellent. It's all over their face, right?
- 58:22Yeah, so yeah, I completely agree with that.
- 58:26I'm, I'm the son, the same as you in that regard.
- 58:28I think that it's you got to do what you love and people that's
- 58:34how you how people going to relate to you.
- 58:36I think the best. And yeah, I guess my question to
- 58:39you on that topic is like if like or two questions, one, You
- 58:48know, if you have that opportunity let's say like to
- 58:50quit your job and then and do this full-time.
- 58:53Are you taking this straight away?
- 58:54Is it going to be like let's do it and also what would it take?
- 59:00But let's say, let's because you're doing really well right
- 59:02now, right? At what point will at?
- 59:06How many subscribers do you think it take before you before
- 59:08you like? Okay.
- 59:08Yeah, no. I need to just do this like to
- 59:11roll with this. Take the risk.
- 59:13Yeah, I've had this conversation recently.
- 59:15See, in my personal life, I've got dependents, you know, right,
- 59:20aren't do, anything silly with. So I don't know.
- 59:24I'll be competition gets on vacation, so many times in my
- 59:27life. No, sir, I'm glad you asked.
- 59:34help one to answer because I wish I knew, but We've kind of
- 59:38between us, worked out that if I had somewhere between 100,000
- 59:43200,000 subscribers. That might be the sort of point
- 59:46where you can, you can think why I'm getting enough to kind of,
- 59:51you know, live, you know, comfortably, which is all I
- 59:55want. I don't even want to meet but I
- 59:57want two million subscribers that 12 million pound.
- 59:59I just want to live the life. I'm living now, but have the
- 1:00:02free time to do work, I have this feeling that you might get
- 1:00:06to that point like Julian because because y'all are not
- 1:00:10faster or whatever, I think it's just going to happen and it's
- 1:00:13going to be like, you're gonna that's going to be the struggle
- 1:00:15for you is not so much the getting to the top.
- 1:00:18But like dealing with the fact that you're at the top, I think
- 1:00:21that might be the bigger challenge for you in the future,
- 1:00:24but anybody. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:00:29But that would mean to plan covers forever.
- 1:00:30Wouldn't it? Or would it?
- 1:00:32I don't know. This is the funny thing I have
- 1:00:34no idea. I mean if you'd asked me this, I
- 1:00:36wouldn't even have been on your book.
- 1:00:37Six months ago no because you wouldn't be interested just
- 1:00:40because I had no profile, you know.
- 1:00:42Right. It's interesting because I have
- 1:00:44I always say to my wife, I don't know what's going to happen in
- 1:00:47six months time. Like I've already worked with a
- 1:00:50producing LOL who since since my channels taken off who's
- 1:00:55literally is a band member and a producer in bands that you will
- 1:01:01know beep. Beep, beep balance, and he's you
- 1:01:04know, he's producing tracks for me and I've had people contact
- 1:01:07I've had so many people contacting me about stuff like
- 1:01:11musicians. Producers, I would send me this.
- 1:01:14Send me this and it's like, it does make me wonder what's going
- 1:01:17to happen. In six months time, I would
- 1:01:19never have dreamed. I would even have 10,000
- 1:01:21followers. It's the lockdown as has as
- 1:01:25horrific as has been has changed, you know?
- 1:01:29Mine course I think so did this is what makes me think that it's
- 1:01:32very possible because the lat when I did my initial research
- 1:01:36on you I think you were like, Maybe 6K something, something
- 1:01:43like that but it's amazing anyway.
- 1:01:45I mean I'm sure I'm sure I'm going to get 500 like you know
- 1:01:50but it is like that. It's like you you get you spend
- 1:01:53ages a particular thing and then suddenly it just takes off and
- 1:01:56yeah, that's huge because you've done that in lockdown in the
- 1:02:00space of light a couple of months so that like all it'll
- 1:02:06take is just that that one cover You know yeah that one chart
- 1:02:10song that you just put out your like yeah fuck it.
- 1:02:12Let's just do this and then suddenly everyone's like who is
- 1:02:15this guy? This is amazing.
- 1:02:17Let's get behind this guy. Maybe maybe I mean I definitely
- 1:02:22I don't think I'm the best out there.
- 1:02:23You know I'm very blessed people that enjoy what I do.
- 1:02:26I don't think I'm bad. I'm not putting myself down II.
- 1:02:29Know my, I know my abilities but there are people out there that
- 1:02:32are killing it. You know.
- 1:02:34One, one thing that I'm very insistent on is, I know there's
- 1:02:39so many songs that I could do that.
- 1:02:40I just know will pop off, you know, but I can't bring myself
- 1:02:45to do things that I'm not going to purely love.
- 1:02:49I can't bring my, but I will only cover a song If I really
- 1:02:52love it. I have to sit with it each
- 1:02:54cover. I do, I really have to listen to
- 1:02:56again to my head. I have to arrive already, loved
- 1:02:58it, or if I don't know it in someone requests it I have to
- 1:03:01come to love it. You know, otherwise I can't do
- 1:03:04it. I can't sit there and play
- 1:03:05something I don't like it's never going to work.
- 1:03:08So I think, yeah, so I don't know if the taste in music that
- 1:03:12I have will ever pop off to that level.
- 1:03:17Pussy? Who knows nothing about
- 1:03:20something else to get back together.
- 1:03:23Trend all over the world and then that would be me sort
- 1:03:26because I'll cover everything they do this.
- 1:03:31That's what everyone wants really you know, both of those
- 1:03:34things. But yeah and it's a waste, it's
- 1:03:36kind of amazing with the way sis.
- 1:03:38It's like they've literally had talks and it's light or talking
- 1:03:41like tens of millions and they're still like nah, nope.
- 1:03:45Nope. They've got some point, they're
- 1:03:52apparently on talking terms, which is good.
- 1:03:54I mean, I think if nothing else like like, no one likes to see
- 1:03:57people arguing and you know, family is always a tricky, one,
- 1:04:02so Easter and talking terms. That's good.
- 1:04:05Ya know, what to believe, to be honest with you.
- 1:04:07I hear all sorts, but I've heard that they've been offered stuff
- 1:04:11and they're planning to come back next year, but they're not
- 1:04:14letting anyone know who knows. Be true.
- 1:04:16Maybe. I don't know what I will say
- 1:04:18this. Like if that's their plan.
- 1:04:21Then Then throwing it off all the time and slugging each other
- 1:04:27offering public is a great counter marketing strategy
- 1:04:31because no one will expect it. Fair play.
- 1:04:36Fair play. Anyway, let's, let's move it
- 1:04:38forward. I will ask you what are your
- 1:04:40best and worst experiences playing live gigs.
- 1:04:44Oh, worse experience. Let's go worse than them will do
- 1:04:51best afterwards. So that's a nice little, we work
- 1:04:55out, who's gonna watch this? So they'll say, oh I remember
- 1:05:02doing a lunchtime Pub, just where no one was listening.
- 1:05:09Literally no one was listening after every a mind, I wasn't any
- 1:05:13person taking that day. And there were other people
- 1:05:15going on getting claps afterwards and stuff.
- 1:05:17And then I went up and it was just crickets after every song
- 1:05:21and I know myself, you know, that I was doing well and I'd be
- 1:05:24happy with the performances if I put one line but for whatever
- 1:05:27reason. With the crowd and that was
- 1:05:33painful and it was suddenly moments during that thing was
- 1:05:36thinking, you know why, I'm playing one thinking in my head
- 1:05:39is, I'm gonna join us in. I'm just going to go, I'm just
- 1:05:41gonna walk off. I'll just walk off knowing even
- 1:05:43notice while I'm singing a song, I'm going through this in my
- 1:05:46head, like I can let you walk off stage 1901, leave a note I
- 1:05:50think I pushed through in the end.
- 1:05:52But yeah that the one I'm thinking of was for if it was in
- 1:05:55the area with a little bit of the Cutty Sark, It was we
- 1:06:02playing covers or original but makes no reaction.
- 1:06:09Nothing. That's all.
- 1:06:10No reaction from any song, ideas, nothing Dead Silence.
- 1:06:15That's weird. I know, in fact, there wasn't
- 1:06:17their silence those people's minds and forks 3 is 12.
- 1:06:23Seems like, you know, I think there's just a problem with
- 1:06:27playing pubs because I remember when I, when I was digging, In
- 1:06:30my first band, we only played a pub, one time.
- 1:06:33And I was very strict about us gigging and I was like, no, we
- 1:06:37don't play pubs Pub. Like, I've seen that fuck that.
- 1:06:40Like just know, it's just the wrong atmosphere because it's
- 1:06:44fine if you've been hired for the night and it's everyone's
- 1:06:47expecting it, but it's a very specific audience apart.
- 1:06:49It's like, typically full of regulars and they're like, like
- 1:06:55you say, this is one react, even even if you do really good
- 1:06:59covers. They do.
- 1:07:01You want to hear what they want to hear?
- 1:07:02Because their, their their mind I suppose.
- 1:07:04It's like you're the Jukebox. Yeah.
- 1:07:08Yes. Like I remember the one and only
- 1:07:10time I played at Pub it was a classic example of like events
- 1:07:15promoters just fucking our be. The only reason I accepted it
- 1:07:18was that it was an all-day festival and I use that term
- 1:07:21very Loosely where yeah, every like there was bands on from
- 1:07:27like midday all the way till 2:00 in the morning.
- 1:07:31So like all day thing and I think we were like 7 p.m. or
- 1:07:35something and I was like, okay, let's give it a go.
- 1:07:38It's in our local Town, fuck it. Let's see what happens.
- 1:07:41Now, we're a heavy metal band, right?
- 1:07:44Screaming all of that stuff, right?
- 1:07:47And the, the got the guy that's on before us.
- 1:07:50Is that one of those jazz fusion guys?
- 1:07:53So he's playing just him for like, Half an hour would be like
- 1:07:58one song. And that is great stuff.
- 1:08:02It's good guitar. You know, me and my lead guitars
- 1:08:04were like, yeah, this is good but like it totally does not set
- 1:08:07the mood for what's going to be like a really heavy set and we
- 1:08:13can we come on and I'm like, looking at these people, like,
- 1:08:16I'm going to scare the shit out of these people.
- 1:08:20This is and literally we played the whole set.
- 1:08:22We played half an hour and they were just horrified.
- 1:08:26It was like something. Then it was like I'd gone up on
- 1:08:29stage and Like throttle the baby or something.
- 1:08:32They were all. Yeah, can't be light.
- 1:08:36And when I'm ready, I might even fly.
- 1:08:38You're not ready for this, the kids will love it.
- 1:08:41I don't think there ever be ready for it and we come off
- 1:08:45stage and I'm like, well, okay. Just wasn't their thing, right?
- 1:08:50And then this I don't even know how to put.
- 1:08:53It's a pop band, I guess like they look like hardcore, guys,
- 1:08:57and I was like, oh well maybe they're a good band that stick
- 1:08:59around for them and then they just played like some pop shit
- 1:09:02and I might and they're getting clapped really heavily and I'm a
- 1:09:05This Lads, let's just go this pack this.
- 1:09:08Yeah. There's you know not to
- 1:09:09discourage anyone watching this because I've had some amazing
- 1:09:12receptions of pubs as well. Just throw that our case anyone
- 1:09:16watches this and was thinking about doing pops.
- 1:09:17Definitely do it character building.
- 1:09:19It's good practice. But well, yeah, I will add to
- 1:09:23this actually that the one benefit of playing pubs is that
- 1:09:26often you get like Open Mic nights where there's no
- 1:09:29expectation from like a promoter to sell a bunch of tickets or
- 1:09:32something, like you can just go out there.
- 1:09:34Play Leave like, you know, you having a clap.
- 1:09:37So it's yeah, yeah. But some selection is very
- 1:09:41important in pubs. It really is, you've got played
- 1:09:43to the crowd was there. So I completely understand, we
- 1:09:47come from other days where I've gone in and, you know, I
- 1:09:50remember, once I played junk why Paul McCartney, I don't know if
- 1:09:53you know it, but it's a, it's a really, it's one of the most
- 1:09:56beautiful songs ever written. Just played at the wrong time.
- 1:09:59They're like, people didn't want to hear that.
- 1:10:01It was like the vibe was up every night.
- 1:10:03Come on like this party. And then I'm like, Error of
- 1:10:10judgment and it was just like I could see on people's faces.
- 1:10:13It was like a just come on punch them in the face and killed
- 1:10:16their night. So there's a lesson to be
- 1:10:19learned there. Yeah.
- 1:10:20Sometimes you can't always tell me the crowds like you kind of
- 1:10:23look at them and know what they want to hear, right?
- 1:10:25But you can sometimes pick up and what other people are doing
- 1:10:27or or reception. If you're doing covers a
- 1:10:29reception to a certain song, you can try and make a set this up
- 1:10:32on the Fly because He said, it's a gameplay in pubs really is, is
- 1:10:37like a chess game. There's a lot to consider.
- 1:10:41Okay. Well let's let's let's throw it
- 1:10:44to a more positive thing because we took you to your lowest
- 1:10:46point. Let's go to your house.
- 1:10:47But what was your best gig best gig?
- 1:10:54It's been some good ones trying to think.
- 1:11:00Be the best. It's just been so many moments,
- 1:11:05you know. I don't know this, I've been
- 1:11:07lucky to get quite a good reception at you.
- 1:11:09My besties I would say was in Essex I went to I'm from Essex
- 1:11:13by the way just so you know, but I went to a gigai done a gig in
- 1:11:18Essex. Where was it?
- 1:11:19Colchester, maybe or something. Raintree, I did the geek and it
- 1:11:24was like an out the outdoors of a pub.
- 1:11:27And I went up there and I just, for some reason it was like you
- 1:11:31said, load of regulars. Lota lot last night, they wonder
- 1:11:35what we are like, you know, like it was like, you know, there are
- 1:11:41going to love me or they're gonna hate me because if these
- 1:11:43people don't like you they're going to be very vocal bad,
- 1:11:45they're not going to be yes suffer fools gladly you know and
- 1:11:50it just went off every song. Just hit the mark and it was
- 1:11:53good. I got offered about two or three
- 1:11:55other gigs on that day from Hawaii.
- 1:11:58Yeah, it's like just people and then funny that I went to play a
- 1:12:01gig I did some ones. Is this?
- 1:12:04Someone's back Garden. I don't even remember what I was
- 1:12:06saying and I was a musician. Like, wild, there's a barbecue
- 1:12:10going on stuff and I got that from that gig.
- 1:12:12So that was, yeah, that was like, that was definitely one
- 1:12:15that I look at that as Just just, just on a side note,
- 1:12:20actually, we've regards to that. I mean, we, we spoke about,
- 1:12:23like, let's say you're popping off and the, you know, the
- 1:12:26YouTube career goes really well and, you know, less, I mean, you
- 1:12:30kind of said, like, I don't know if I want to be a covers guy but
- 1:12:32let you know. One big thing about being a
- 1:12:34covers guy is you can make a full career out of that you
- 1:12:37know, digging, you know even like not just not just on like
- 1:12:40YouTube and stuff. But like yeah, like playing
- 1:12:42weddings parties, whatever like is that something that you'd be
- 1:12:46interested? Stood in and doing.
- 1:12:49No, I think a couple of weddings here and there.
- 1:12:51Yes, it's nice in there, I don't know.
- 1:12:54Because even still with much as I say, you know, I don't care
- 1:12:56about my music going big and all that stuff.
- 1:12:59There's still a part of me that kind of wants to be able to, you
- 1:13:02know, get by on my own Merit as such.
- 1:13:04So I mean like you say that you've gotta go with what's
- 1:13:07Poppin Off at the period of my life that I'm in and
- 1:13:10responsibilities that are have if some people can start
- 1:13:13offering me money to regularly, they covers all the time and I
- 1:13:17Shut it down, that's just irresponsible.
- 1:13:19And so I'm going to do it, is it my ultimate goal?
- 1:13:23No, not really. Although my goals are changing
- 1:13:26all the time, you know, ask me getting sconce, I don't know
- 1:13:28because literally a month ago, nobody knew who I was and no
- 1:13:33nose right now. But, you know, I mean like he's
- 1:13:36so much has happened in the last month.
- 1:13:38I don't even know what's going to by November.
- 1:13:40I don't even know where I'm going to be a wanting to be
- 1:13:42doing so I'm very excited. I'll be honest like just looking
- 1:13:45at your numbers already. I mean, it's Well, let's see
- 1:13:47what happens. It could all come crashing down
- 1:13:49tomorrow, keep them coming man. Just keep keep cookies come and
- 1:13:52keep putting them out there and you know it will happen.
- 1:13:56I firmly believe that is speaking of which what advice
- 1:14:02would you give to musicians and YouTubers that just starting out
- 1:14:04right now. You can maybe follow in your
- 1:14:07footsteps patients, just be patient.
- 1:14:12It ain't going to happen overnight, you're going to be
- 1:14:15there for years. Say it's going to take.
- 1:14:18I mean, some people you should post one thing and Pops off
- 1:14:21straight away. Good on you.
- 1:14:22But the reality is, it's going to take a long time.
- 1:14:25People aren't going to get what you're doing at first, and you
- 1:14:28just got a stick with it. And the good thing about
- 1:14:32YouTube, what's actually brilliant using the white ways
- 1:14:35you can learn from every single video you do?
- 1:14:37You actually watch it back? Listen, you can hear where you
- 1:14:40can improve and improve it for the next video.
- 1:14:42And if someone tells you something in a comment like you
- 1:14:45should try this down just Guard what they're saying because I've
- 1:14:48learned a lot from people following me, I've grown because
- 1:14:50of people with helped me to grow as well.
- 1:14:53You know, some people been like, when I first started, I wasn't
- 1:14:56ready pronouncing my words that well.
- 1:14:58And that is something I always get compliments on now.
- 1:15:00Like, uses everything you say. So Crystal, Clear.
- 1:15:02And I can understand every word, even people from other
- 1:15:05countries, they're really always say that I've put my fancy
- 1:15:09ations brilliant, but it become it because somebody said to me
- 1:15:12on YouTube, one time, you know, you slurring your words a bit
- 1:15:15in, you're not Okay, let me look into that and then I Googled it
- 1:15:19and I watched a little YouTube lesson on it and I'm proved on
- 1:15:22it, you know? So I would just say, just be
- 1:15:25open to comments, it be open to criticism, you know, if it's
- 1:15:28constructive and just be prepared to put in a crime
- 1:15:32because you might see me, Evan 12,000 subscribers and think are
- 1:15:37why I'm going to upload a cover and I'll get 12 hours and right.
- 1:15:40It's going to it's going to take a couple of years to build up
- 1:15:45and if you don't love doing it it's gonna it's gonna feel that
- 1:15:51hard work you know. So don't do YouTube just because
- 1:15:55you want to earn some money because you ain't it's not a big
- 1:15:57money thing, you know, just do it because you're passionate
- 1:16:00about what you do. You mentioned just there that
- 1:16:04you know you getting attention from other countries, it is
- 1:16:06there like a particular countries that you're getting
- 1:16:08like a lot of fans from my what where are the main countries
- 1:16:12that you're getting the most attention from right now.
- 1:16:15According to our stats. It's mainly like I think is that
- 1:16:20it's quite a lot of is the US and UK there are two biggest
- 1:16:23ones but there's a lot of people from South America from one
- 1:16:29Mexico, Brazil. I Quad massive proportion of my
- 1:16:35comments come from Mexico and Brazil.
- 1:16:39Yeah, someone told me like everyone knows who you are over
- 1:16:42it, they're not all my friends. People must all know who you
- 1:16:44are. Let everyone listens to you.
- 1:16:46And I was like, whoa, as we don't know how many people, you
- 1:16:50know, maybe it was just my ego, I don't know, but I definitely
- 1:16:53get a lot of comments from South America.
- 1:16:56They put me, they probably see my little fans and think I'm,
- 1:16:58you know, they think I'm Brazilian and Allah will check
- 1:17:01him out. And then they are me like okay
- 1:17:03he's all right though. Given that you're doing all of
- 1:17:06this stuff on on YouTube and you were doing on Facebook?
- 1:17:13I can't remember if I if I found your links elsewhere, B, OU on
- 1:17:17places like Instagram and stuff you.
- 1:17:20Yeah, I'm on Instagram, but these are you posting videos
- 1:17:24there, too? Yeah, it's just the same stuff I
- 1:17:27post on. Okay.
- 1:17:29Okay. Although actually on sweetheart.
- 1:17:32Also, recently, I posted a few videos on every time I post a
- 1:17:36video recently is getting about 30,000 to 40,000 all use.
- 1:17:41Yeah, that's from the fratellis retweeted my video today and
- 1:17:46there's like, I've got I've got people that I consider celebrity
- 1:17:49start following me and stuff is crazy.
- 1:17:51So that's starting to kick off now actually so definitely if
- 1:17:55you're watching, you want to follow me on Twitter, would
- 1:17:56suggest it but it's the same content as you to that.
- 1:18:02That's crazy as well for Twitter like 30k on a video.
- 1:18:07Congrats on the other day. 35, and then I've got one going off
- 1:18:11at the moment. I posted this morning's on that
- 1:18:13puppy about 25 at the minute. So yeah, get a little Following
- 1:18:17over there that you'll get more views and their, then I got on
- 1:18:19YouTube, you know, just the nature of the pro of platform,
- 1:18:23but well, there you go. If you are an aspiring musician
- 1:18:28and you're on social media, make sure you're posting everywhere,
- 1:18:31I think. Biggest lesson learned, yeah.
- 1:18:34Facebook is very good as well, or not Facebook for personal
- 1:18:38relationships, but, for music, it's brilliant.
- 1:18:41There's a lot of groups are there.
- 1:18:42You can join like-minded, people who are struggling as well, and
- 1:18:46I said, you can learn them. You said that you're not on
- 1:18:48Facebook but you don't have like a page there.
- 1:18:50Then anymore had a page before the lockdown.
- 1:18:53I had about 2,000. People follow me on Facebook,
- 1:18:56what specific the funny interesting that you've kind of
- 1:18:58completely moved out. Like I know your reasons and we
- 1:19:01won't go into that again, but But like, because I've started
- 1:19:04posting on my Facebook page, which I wasn't doing before, I
- 1:19:07was just promoting from YouTube, but then I realized that you can
- 1:19:11actually potentially earn money from Facebook.
- 1:19:14And I'm not that naive to think that like, oh yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:19:17earn money from this but I treat it the same way that I do re
- 1:19:20YouTube and I do a little tricks and things that.
- 1:19:23So for example the podcast you know, there's always a delay so
- 1:19:27like you two boys gets a first and then Facebook is always
- 1:19:31delayed. You never get the latest
- 1:19:34episode, you always get like the one before and I know things
- 1:19:37like that to encourage cross-checking over and such.
- 1:19:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. And let there yeah, there were
- 1:19:44different thresholds and stuff on Instagram, Facebook and such
- 1:19:47but there are like different useful tools, you know?
- 1:19:50Like, like I discovered this reason, I don't, if, you know
- 1:19:53this but like, if you have a Facebook page, you can cross
- 1:19:56Prost in the scheduling so you can schedule something to be
- 1:20:00released and then, Do the same for Instagram and it will then
- 1:20:03release it on Instagram. Provided that it has like a
- 1:20:06picture as like the main part of that.
- 1:20:11Yes. As part of the postal or
- 1:20:13whatever. And so I saves me so much time,
- 1:20:19let's get you everything. But yeah, no, I mean it's I
- 1:20:23don't know. I think it's always good to kind
- 1:20:25of be in everywhere as much as but I also think there's like a
- 1:20:28different audience as well. Like, I know people, The follow
- 1:20:32me on Facebook that don't watch YouTube videos.
- 1:20:35So part of the reason. Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 1:20:39Yeah, that's the. I mean I really never posted all
- 1:20:43my stuff on Twitter and I didn't expect that.
- 1:20:47There would be people on Twitter that I know it.
- 1:20:49Sounds silly, of course, you know, there's more than 12,000
- 1:20:52pounds of the type of music like throughout, but I kind of
- 1:20:55fought. Like, when I push myself, I was
- 1:20:56him again. And then all of a sudden these
- 1:20:59people like finding me on Twitter when I'm posting too.
- 1:21:02They're going. Whoa.
- 1:21:03And I'm like, have you not seen this on YouTube as well?
- 1:21:05That 300,000 views on true boy, with a seen it.
- 1:21:08These people don't like saying that the maybe they don't use
- 1:21:10YouTube, maybe they use a completely different platform,
- 1:21:13you know, so maybe we should promote your YouTube videos on
- 1:21:20your Twitter, right? What I'll do is I'll cut a
- 1:21:24minute out of the video and then just put it on and they did my
- 1:21:28bio. I thought, oh, I'm a YouTuber by
- 1:21:30the way. Here you go.
- 1:21:30Is my YouTube channel. You know, it's like, who doesn't
- 1:21:34anyone? Look sit out.
- 1:21:34They even know if anyone knows when YouTube but yeah but what
- 1:21:37could be? They look at what a post on
- 1:21:39Twitter and they are popping off.
- 1:21:41So there's definitely value and posting things everywhere
- 1:21:45because he said, yeah. And maybe actually your idea of
- 1:21:50posting smaller Clips works better on Twitter, like I have
- 1:21:52heard theories. That light is better to do it
- 1:21:54that way in and such. So, yeah, I know what.
- 1:21:58Hey, it sounds like it's working for you.
- 1:21:59So yeah, keep doing what you're doing.
- 1:22:03Let's switch up again. Tell us something about yourself
- 1:22:06that you know, your fans don't know.
- 1:22:10Definitely. That I was a massive metal.
- 1:22:12It definitely no one. No one's actually.
- 1:22:15I told someone on the sly before and they were like no I've
- 1:22:20really said that to me Barbra Streisand No no.
- 1:22:32Whatever comes I know I was amongst pieces downloads you
- 1:22:35know like going crazy. Hey Dwight an unkind mirror and
- 1:22:39stuff like that long. I think I think a lot of people
- 1:22:42would definitely wouldn't know that.
- 1:22:44Yeah Evie's it really is interesting actually because
- 1:22:47like even when I was like fully in that, I think when I was a
- 1:22:51teenager, I was like really, really into metal and rock.
- 1:22:54And I couldn't ever imagine listening to other types of
- 1:22:56music but I did and I think we all did just just not massively
- 1:23:01because back, Back then. You know it was a largely, an
- 1:23:04identity thing and it was like yo you can't listen to anything
- 1:23:08else. You have to listen to this and
- 1:23:10I'm so glad you say that because that was my experience in this
- 1:23:15group or this group. There was no if you were in the
- 1:23:19metal group and you even dare to say that hum along to a rap tune
- 1:23:23or something like that, you'd be ostracized instantly.
- 1:23:26It was like no, no your Ivory over here or over there, these
- 1:23:29days, everyone's everywhere, but back then.
- 1:23:32It was very different, he's weird.
- 1:23:33Like no one gives a shit like that.
- 1:23:35I discovered that, like, when I became an adult, probably in my
- 1:23:38early 20s that I started to discover that a listen to
- 1:23:41whatever the hell you want, no one cares.
- 1:23:43Be like, yeah, used to you might get different looks if people
- 1:23:49see you wearing a metal. Sure?
- 1:23:50Or like, you look a bit different but ultimately, people
- 1:23:53don't care and like you said, like it teenagers.
- 1:23:57Now, like I look at my little brother's and like, you know,
- 1:24:00there, Just into everything, there doesn't seem to be any
- 1:24:04Trends. I mean, I suppose there are a
- 1:24:06few online Trends and such but not like how it was when we were
- 1:24:09growing up. There was no there doesn't seem
- 1:24:11to be that segregation there was no no definitely.
- 1:24:15It is weird man. Weird okay we're old bastard's
- 1:24:26now so we are like yeah. Okay.
- 1:24:32Let's move it forward. Now, I don't always really talk
- 1:24:36about people's personal lives on these podcasts, but I thought
- 1:24:39that this is interesting. I've, I've had previous music
- 1:24:41guests on who have had, like developments in their personal
- 1:24:45lives, which I think is always interesting in terms of how it
- 1:24:49affects like your songwriting and you're on your view and
- 1:24:52things right now. Last year, you got married.
- 1:24:55So congratulations. Thanks, that's awesome.
- 1:24:59So my ring around here somewhere Do you live?
- 1:25:03See that how has married life changed you in terms of like
- 1:25:11your music? Like has it had a big impact on
- 1:25:13your music? Has it changed?
- 1:25:15The way you write music or like maybe the covers you pick or has
- 1:25:19it had any impact on your music at all?
- 1:25:23Question, no noticeable, one to be honest, but the thing is with
- 1:25:27me, I've been with my wife now. For, we got married last year,
- 1:25:31but we've been together for 11, 12 years, oh, congrats.
- 1:25:35And that we fell instantly in love, you know?
- 1:25:39And it hasn't waned really. So I've kind of been in the same
- 1:25:42head space for that time. I definitely think being in a
- 1:25:45relationship as change the way, this is change the sort of music
- 1:25:49that I like definitely has changed the The he's definitely
- 1:25:53been an influence on my son Ryan, but but ever since I've
- 1:25:56been writing songs, I've been in the relationship so I can't
- 1:25:58really say it's changed. Did you owe me introduce you to
- 1:26:01like a lot of music then or or was there something like that?
- 1:26:06No, I wouldn't say. So she's not into music as me
- 1:26:10this, I want to say, my musical tastes.
- 1:26:13Yeah, she didn't get me into anything necessarily.
- 1:26:16Maybe I just softened up a little bit and lights, you know,
- 1:26:19I've always liked, like I say I grew up on that Michael.
- 1:26:21When I was reading at Motown stuff and then and then I
- 1:26:24listened to Heaven stuff. So I've always had that bit of
- 1:26:27both anyway but yeah, I'm probably enjoy the tender side,
- 1:26:31a little bit more now, maybe that's bound to have something
- 1:26:34to do. I'm exactly the same.
- 1:26:36Like, sometimes I look at myself and I'm like, you're weird, you
- 1:26:39know, like I got this. I'll make this playlist
- 1:26:41recently, which is it's like 50, 60, 70 s.
- 1:26:48Music and it's like my ideas are just because like I feel like,
- 1:26:53yeah, Motown. All that music is just like the
- 1:26:55best music ever made. I don't know.
- 1:26:56I just there's so many good songs.
- 1:26:59Yeah. Like they've been in used in so
- 1:27:01many movies and it's easy to see why.
- 1:27:05But like I often find myself lives listening to that over say
- 1:27:08listening to like rock or metal, and I have to be in the mood for
- 1:27:11that now I feel like it's Oh you mean yeah, I was an Angry Young.
- 1:27:17Then you know you put on Imperium by Machine Ed you just
- 1:27:21yeah it's just it's nice to see you but then now you know when
- 1:27:25you doing dishes you don't really think about oh God you
- 1:27:29did I don't really have any Anarchy towards middle-aged life
- 1:27:32a search so he's probably I think I think of that's probably
- 1:27:37why I like a bit of you know, Morrissey depressed and stuff.
- 1:27:40But But I find that a lot of the time.
- 1:27:44It comes down to like, your activity, you know, like if I'm
- 1:27:47playing basketball, it's hip-hop.
- 1:27:49You know, if I'm playing if I'm at home working on things either
- 1:27:55something that's maybe a bit of Pop.
- 1:27:58If it's something that I need to get shit done, it's like I need
- 1:28:00something with a bit of a beat. Maybe some dance music or
- 1:28:02something, but if it's like relaxing, it's got to be really
- 1:28:06chilled. You are, you can't.
- 1:28:07I just feel like you can't relax to like really really heavy
- 1:28:11stuff or like really fast. If you know exactly.
- 1:28:15But I don't know how I did that when I was a teen, I just.
- 1:28:18Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got sleep to met wild.
- 1:28:21Yeah, he's crazy to think and now that I'm in bed, you know,
- 1:28:25God knows what I'm listening to. But instead, he ain't that, I
- 1:28:29remember when I was like 14, I set this, there's this song by
- 1:28:36Slayer called disciple and it softly, amazing albums.
- 1:28:42God hates A source of excellent man that metal album.
- 1:28:45I was addicted to Slayer and I thought it was a good idea to
- 1:28:50set that song. As my as my alarm clock song,
- 1:28:54wake me up in the morning and so wake me up in the morning really
- 1:28:57violently. I'll be like, oh and like
- 1:29:00initially, I thought, wow, that's really cool.
- 1:29:02That's really metal. But then I started to actually
- 1:29:05hate that song because it was the song, the work and I change
- 1:29:10it was time to do the boring stuff now. if it even to this
- 1:29:14day whenever I hear that song like it's a good song but I
- 1:29:17can't really listen to it because I'm like it's like I'm
- 1:29:23myself hate it I accidentally anyway right we we covered this
- 1:29:30next question, a little bit but I'll rephrase it a little bit so
- 1:29:38let's say that you get offered a contract by like a major music
- 1:29:46provider or you know whatever or like wood.
- 1:29:53Okay. Let's say you got offered that
- 1:29:54or you've got the like the decision to.
- 1:29:57Okay. Let this is how I'm going to
- 1:29:58phrase it. Let's say you have that or you
- 1:30:01got to, you got to choose between that or you're popping
- 1:30:04off YouTube career, which means operating, Yourself releasing
- 1:30:09independent, music yourself doing it independently, which
- 1:30:12road are you more? Likely to go down, which is more
- 1:30:17preferable for you, 100% going with the contract, 100%, because
- 1:30:23you might because in my head space at the moment, I want to
- 1:30:26provide for future children and I want to provide a good life
- 1:30:30for my wife and if that means, you know what, I don't know
- 1:30:35which one makes me. I don't know.
- 1:30:36I'm not, I'm not just fine. Financially motivated, but I
- 1:30:40wouldn't the point in my life. I'm sure I am.
- 1:30:43If things were going to pop it. How even if they're going to pop
- 1:30:47off? That's, that's what I need to
- 1:30:48know before I can answer that question.
- 1:30:50I mean, I guess it would have to, yeah, it have to be like
- 1:30:52completely equal then, wouldn't it be easy?
- 1:30:55So, like it is completely equal. Then I'll stick to YouTube.
- 1:30:58Definitely. Yeah.
- 1:31:00Because, like, example, my independent, my freedom, I can
- 1:31:02release my musical stuff, but if I'm getting offered more money
- 1:31:06to do something, you know, Love that.
- 1:31:09Then it's time for me to be sensible in my old age and let's
- 1:31:13face it a different way. Let's say that you get offered
- 1:31:16like, I don't know, five hundred thousand million dollar
- 1:31:21recording contract, right? Or you can go down the route of
- 1:31:26a solid comfortable income from YouTube like, like that.
- 1:31:30That dream you said, before of like, getting being able to have
- 1:31:33like a couple of grand per month solidly and core audience, That
- 1:31:37listens to you. So it's like you might not just
- 1:31:40basically money versus this kind of comfortability and having
- 1:31:46control over it, which do you prefer?
- 1:31:51I mean, deep down mind, Sarah is definitely is the thing.
- 1:31:56I mean I've never had money so I have no reason to chase money is
- 1:32:02life to this point. I mean.
- 1:32:08It's tricky because in the mindset I am in, at the moment
- 1:32:12I've got personal responsibilities flying at me
- 1:32:14left, right, and center, and all I can think about at this
- 1:32:17moment. I'm speaking to is money, you
- 1:32:19know, to degree live like being financially stable.
- 1:32:23I am financially stable just to say but you know, Money is I'm
- 1:32:29not going to like this point where like money is quite a big
- 1:32:32factor for me, so I don't know infamy.
- 1:32:37I think I can answer me answering that question.
- 1:32:40I like, because I would have the same difficulty as you.
- 1:32:43It's a real tough one, but I feel like the length of the
- 1:32:48recording contract is key as well.
- 1:32:50And the the, what the control the percentage is all of these
- 1:32:55things. Because like, if it's like a
- 1:32:57contract for sale, Year yeah here is a year.
- 1:33:01You know, and I mean it's over. It's done, that's it.
- 1:33:03Yeah. If it's like yeah but five,
- 1:33:05let's see. But then yeah, take goes again.
- 1:33:10So if you've got a recording contract or you can go back to
- 1:33:13YouTube after them, right? And this is what I'm thinking,
- 1:33:16it's like, you know, you get the exposure, you get all that and
- 1:33:19then you can just, you know, go back to YouTube, you do your
- 1:33:22thing. If it's like five years, they
- 1:33:25control everything and this is the tricky thing as well.
- 1:33:28And I think if you're going to go into the music industry, read
- 1:33:31the contract. Always read the contract.
- 1:33:33Because what if they own your YouTube?
- 1:33:37That's true. That's true.
- 1:33:38Yes. The tricky thing, you might not
- 1:33:40get it back. It's really difficult, you know?
- 1:33:43Because it would all depend on who's giving you look like.
- 1:33:46You say, like, lightning you rightly say is all about
- 1:33:48control, that's what it's about. Because Emma does that mean that
- 1:33:52I'm going to be asking to make the music?
- 1:33:53I like, if it is, then I'm doing it all day.
- 1:33:56But you know, is they're going to tell me, right?
- 1:33:58Well, you need to wear, you know, the red spandex thing, the
- 1:34:01Brittany starts, going Hungarian jazz, Depend on a big thing
- 1:34:17about you as well as is the vibe you give off.
- 1:34:19I think that's what people are. Certainly what I like as well.
- 1:34:22It's not just a music. It's like you give off quite a
- 1:34:24humble. Nice guy, kind of vibe.
- 1:34:27I think people dig that but like when you go down that kind of, I
- 1:34:31don't know what you would call it corporate route, let's let's
- 1:34:34call it that You know they're manufacturing you there, they're
- 1:34:39producing you in what they want. And yeah like you say you got to
- 1:34:44kind of like toe the line and do what they tell you.
- 1:34:47But it's like it's not you necessarily and I feel like
- 1:34:50that's weird angel with with that route.
- 1:34:53See. But but the the sort of person I
- 1:34:55am I've always been curious about learning ever since I was
- 1:35:00little literally lat always wanting to avoid been the kid
- 1:35:03who's or the weather throughout that I had.
- 1:35:06That work or what some always. I've never had the strongest
- 1:35:11static, you know, standards and in the world I've always kind of
- 1:35:16I kind of feel like I could learn.
- 1:35:17Yeah. If they wanted to produce me in
- 1:35:19a certain way for me, I'd probably be thinking well
- 1:35:22actually maybe I should be doing that, you know, like like who
- 1:35:24says that, I know what's right? I have what I like but then it
- 1:35:29depends how much they want to change.
- 1:35:31You know, you read a. If someone was, if they would
- 1:35:34sit down with me and said, write your songs are okay but we can't
- 1:35:38use them and you have to work the songwriter and all of a
- 1:35:41sudden we're going to listen to my songs and was like Yeah, this
- 1:35:44part is good but the rest of his shit.
- 1:35:45So we're going to cut all that out and blah blah blah, part of
- 1:35:48me would be like Okay. You know, I'm learning something
- 1:35:52here. So I would totally be a hundred
- 1:35:54percent against him. I know this is my baby and I'm
- 1:35:57right and I know, you know what, you get what I'm trying to say.
- 1:36:00So Yeah, I don't know. It depends how much.
- 1:36:06You'd have to change that will crush me personally, like I'm
- 1:36:11with you. If there was like some sort of
- 1:36:12partnership there in terms of working on the songs and like,
- 1:36:16always an ownership in influencing that and like it is
- 1:36:19just you writing with people. That's one thing like them
- 1:36:23saying or your music shit, you know?
- 1:36:25Everything's gonna be written for you and you're singing other
- 1:36:27people's songs like I couldn't do that.
- 1:36:30I genuinely couldn't do it. I think it would kill me.
- 1:36:35It was killed. As well I think but I don't know
- 1:36:38if someone was writing brilliant songs.
- 1:36:41I've had this discussion with my friend before he was the same.
- 1:36:43He was like, I would never ever sing a song that was written by
- 1:36:46Me by ever made it I wouldn't sing any for me.
- 1:36:49I'm not as hot I can contribute to so I can write a song so I
- 1:36:57don't need a whole song room for me.
- 1:36:59I can definitely contribute if I'd have to do a joint
- 1:37:01partnership and I wrote 50 percent someone else wrote 50
- 1:37:04percent to me. I've been mind that as such I'm
- 1:37:08okay you having collaboration in that way, you know for me
- 1:37:11personally, I'm not totally like right everything's going my way.
- 1:37:15And this is how this one's going to go.
- 1:37:18Yeah, I dunno like You know, even if you think of like the
- 1:37:22Beatles are how much influence did George Martin have on the
- 1:37:25music? You know there's always
- 1:37:27something to learn you know as such it just depends where this
- 1:37:31line is. This imaginary line that we're
- 1:37:33discussing, it depends how far left a y is for me.
- 1:37:37I'm not totally 100% you know stuck in my ways and everything
- 1:37:41has to be my way or nothing. I'm an artist and I am already
- 1:37:45perfect and you're going to work around me.
- 1:37:48You know? I'm not saying you are a young.
- 1:37:50Not that I know people that are like that, you know.
- 1:37:53So yeah, he game for me personally, I feel it's it's
- 1:37:57always dependent on the circumstances and the nature of
- 1:38:00the the arrangement partnership as it were because as you say,
- 1:38:05yes, sometimes having songs written for you isn't so bad.
- 1:38:08I mean, you know, major musicians, do it.
- 1:38:11I know people like Justin Bieber, do it.
- 1:38:13You know, they sing other people's songs.
- 1:38:15Cajon, is there some people that do it completely?
- 1:38:17I mean, I think Elvis did that. He only ever saw Elvis teeger.
- 1:38:22Yeah, I mean the beat the beat was started out doing a lot
- 1:38:24covers. The second album was, was Art
- 1:38:28and how many covers on it but there's a couple of Beatles
- 1:38:30albums, almost 50% or more covers, you know.
- 1:38:33And then they grew into the song, right?
- 1:38:34And they were writing good songs.
- 1:38:36They write in the best songs ever written.
- 1:38:38So I should clarify. But you know that slowly they
- 1:38:42started to gain more control as they went through.
- 1:38:44Yes. So there's an element of that as
- 1:38:46well. Choose my time for the beat was
- 1:38:47required hated the music when he couldn't find them.
- 1:38:50I tried to record other stuff so you know, you can always grow
- 1:38:55under that situation. Well, this is a conversation
- 1:38:57could go on forever. You that enjoy thinking stop
- 1:39:04bringing it to a close as a final question.
- 1:39:08Do you have any upcoming sort of projects?
- 1:39:11Anything immediately that maybe you'd like to share with us
- 1:39:15right now? Or perhaps maybe just some final
- 1:39:17thoughts for your fans or anything?
- 1:39:21Yeah, I'm thinking about doing a covers out.
- 1:39:23A lot of people asking me for covers album.
- 1:39:25Okay. And therefore, no Gallagher, as
- 1:39:27well as he's trying to easily idea.
- 1:39:28So what game before him nachos? Yes, that'll probably be the
- 1:39:35next thing I do in terms of saying science of the fans just
- 1:39:39Frank you lat, I don't know. I can't believe this 12,000
- 1:39:43people that are even remotely interested in what I'm doing.
- 1:39:46I do believe in myself. I do believe in my beliefs, I
- 1:39:49know. How good I am but I just never
- 1:39:53expected, you know, this sort of attention.
- 1:39:57So yeah. The best is definitely Yet to
- 1:39:59Come Denver's. Did you know to come?
- 1:40:02No yeah I'm nowhere near my potential.
- 1:40:05I wanted to tell you. I'm not nobody more potential, I
- 1:40:08don't think. Yeah, I completely agree with
- 1:40:10you. I think definitely like, you
- 1:40:13just keep doing what you're doing and it's it's gonna, it's
- 1:40:17gonna be an exciting couple of months moving forward.
- 1:40:20So I think definitely down some more that's remember that as
- 1:40:24well. I like to provide.
- 1:40:25I like how humble you are but I think realistically it's given
- 1:40:30now how? Well it's going.
- 1:40:31Now it's going to be so long as you keep it consistent.
- 1:40:33As long as you don't stop as long as you kind of your
- 1:40:36reactive to your audience and you keep putting that stuff out
- 1:40:39there and doing what you love. I think it's it's already
- 1:40:43connecting with people on a level right now so there's no
- 1:40:46reason that it can't sort of continue in that manner.
- 1:40:50Now, it's interesting because my recording techniques aren't even
- 1:40:52that great. Still the videos pop off, so it
- 1:40:55makes me wonder, you know, forget about camera.
- 1:40:57I forget about microphone, I think these things help, mmm,
- 1:41:01these things do help, but I think like, ultimately, it's
- 1:41:04about what you produce because I have the same worries that, you
- 1:41:06know, for instance, right now that your camera looks
- 1:41:08excellent. Mine looks like the fucking
- 1:41:11potato for it because it's a shitty webcam, but at the end of
- 1:41:15the day, it is about the content that's being produced.
- 1:41:18And you know what? Resonates with people and like
- 1:41:21things like shit, you cameras and equipment that will improve
- 1:41:24of a time and your audience knows that, you know, they know
- 1:41:27that as you grow, you know, everything's going to get
- 1:41:30better. And like you, your guitars are
- 1:41:33get better your mics together with that or whatever, right?
- 1:41:36But like the talent right there is there, you know the meaning
- 1:41:40that the talent is undeniable so aren't around?
- 1:41:44Yeah. - there's a lot of room for improvement as well.
- 1:41:48And yeah and it's a good, it's a good.
- 1:41:50Attitude to have it's a good attitude to have.
- 1:41:52I think I'll never stop. Never stop trying to improve and
- 1:41:55I do think for anyone who might be interested in watching my
- 1:41:58growth of I know I am going to grow more and and there's one
- 1:42:03for growth and just stick with me and I will see where it goes.
- 1:42:06But yeah. But listen thank you very much
- 1:42:10for agreeing to appear on the show.
