- 1:01Speaker 1: and I am so happy to introduce someone who I
- 1:05Speaker 1: think you're going to enjoy so much, Doctor Arnell Right.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Thank you so much for being with me today.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me. I'm really really excited,
- 1:14Speaker 2: but energy is good. I'm ready for us to chat.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I love it well for everybody listening, tell them about
- 1:22Speaker 1: you and what you do.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, hey everyone. So I'm doctor Arnell Wright. As
- 1:26Speaker 2: Michelle said, I'm socially known as the Daily Dentist, where
- 1:29Speaker 2: I've been building my brand and my platform for over
- 1:32Speaker 2: thirteen years. I am a general dentist. I'm a graduate
- 1:35Speaker 2: of the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Go Gators. Yes,
- 1:39Speaker 2: so appropriate, especially after last night, I know, yes, and
- 1:44Speaker 2: we were just screaming to the top of our lungs.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We couldn't even get to bed because of the win.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We couldn't believe it. But I'm here in Orlando, I'm
- 1:52Speaker 2: a general dentist, and I am so excited to just
- 1:55Speaker 2: bring some of my thoughts and everything to you all,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and you know, just share with your community. So yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: thanks for having me.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I was just telling you out in the lobby.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But it's so funny. I was pre dental so I
- 2:10Speaker 1: love so much to see you and what you have built.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But yeah, so okay, why dentistry? How did that happen?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Goodness? So, I always like to start the story by saying,
- 2:22Speaker 2: like dentistry found me right, as much as most people
- 2:26Speaker 2: they know their career path growing up, or more people
- 2:30Speaker 2: that I have grown to like hear their stories. They
- 2:33Speaker 2: knew from five or three they had like a dad
- 2:36Speaker 2: or mom and aunt and uncle who were dentists, and
- 2:39Speaker 2: I didn't have any of that. So growing up, I
- 2:42Speaker 2: actually didn't have much dental care. And I know you
- 2:45Speaker 2: probably would never even think that, but my background is
- 2:48Speaker 2: we were really just trying to survive. And so when
- 2:51Speaker 2: I went off to college, I was like, all right,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I get to take things into my own hands. I
- 2:56Speaker 2: get to use my financial aid to you know, take
- 2:58Speaker 2: good care of myself. And so I found a dentist
- 3:01Speaker 2: and that experience, it was a routine dental visit that really,
- 3:05Speaker 2: you know, I don't know, just intrigued me because, yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 2: it sparked something because the vibes, like I was trying
- 3:12Speaker 2: to figure out, like my personality, how would I use
- 3:14Speaker 2: that in the workplace or you know what that would
- 3:16Speaker 2: do for me? And the dentist she was a female
- 3:18Speaker 2: and she still practices to this day. Her son is
- 3:21Speaker 2: in practice with her now. And her office was so vibrant.
- 3:26Speaker 2: She would just be cackling around the office. You could
- 3:28Speaker 2: just tell that there was a family environment and she
- 3:31Speaker 2: really took good care of me, understanding my background in
- 3:35Speaker 2: my circumstances, and so that for me, it was a shift.
- 3:38Speaker 2: And I was not pre dental at that time. I
- 3:41Speaker 2: was pre law. I thought that I wanted to be
- 3:43Speaker 2: a lawyer because everybody in my family was like, oh,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you can talk and you can debate, and you can
- 3:47Speaker 2: have these conversations. And so I thought that I wanted
- 3:50Speaker 2: to be a lawyer. So I was on the pre
- 3:52Speaker 2: law tracks. So I ended up having to change my
- 3:54Speaker 2: major after I had this epiphany about, oh, I want
- 3:57Speaker 2: to be a dentist, you know, and so here I am.
- 4:02Speaker 1: That's a big shift, big shift because when I went
- 4:04Speaker 1: to school, I started off as elementary education and then
- 4:08Speaker 1: shifted and I remember it was wild. So and it's
- 4:12Speaker 1: funny that you mentioned about pre law because I think
- 4:15Speaker 1: how many of us have said to our daughters or
- 4:20Speaker 1: young people in our lives when they are strong women
- 4:23Speaker 1: and opinionated and talkative, girl, you should be a lawyer. Yes,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I know, I heard it. Obviously you heard it. That's
- 4:31Speaker 1: so funny.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I literally signed up when I got to college and
- 4:34Speaker 2: as I was like, okay, I'll just be pre law.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, so you made that shift. Yeah, and now
- 4:42Speaker 1: you was Orlando always home?
- 4:45Speaker 2: No, So I'm from a small town winter Haven. We're
- 4:48Speaker 2: lego it. You probably not.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'm from West Palm Beach and one of my high
- 4:53Speaker 1: school boyfriends went to school in Bell Glade.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, rhetoric or Haven.
- 4:59Speaker 1: They played each each other.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, and so my whole entire family is there.
- 5:04Speaker 2: When we we being my husband and I, when I
- 5:06Speaker 2: finished dental school, we decided to move to Orlando. It's
- 5:09Speaker 2: like smack dab in the middle of both of our families.
- 5:11Speaker 2: So his family's in Jacksonville, mines in Winterhaven, and so
- 5:14Speaker 2: neither family would have to drive like ridiculously far. So
- 5:17Speaker 2: we kind of just wanted to make sure that we
- 5:19Speaker 2: were in a nice area. And like, who doesn't want
- 5:21Speaker 2: to come to Orlando, you know? Yeah, so we were like, hey,
- 5:24Speaker 2: we'll go to Orlando.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So, how how have you found setting up practice here?
- 5:29Speaker 1: So now what are you doing? So you graduate from
- 5:32Speaker 1: you have Yeah, you're a dentist. Yeah, you and your
- 5:36Speaker 1: husband moved to Orlando. Then what happened?
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, so to take it back, we had our
- 5:41Speaker 2: first baby my senior year of dental school. Do not
- 5:45Speaker 2: recommend doing all these big things at one time. Yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 2: So it's like we were getting married, having a baby,
- 5:50Speaker 2: moving finishing boards, doing all of these big life changes.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So we moved down here, and he was still commuting
- 5:57Speaker 2: back and forth to Marion County because that's where he
- 5:59Speaker 2: was working at his job at the hospital. And so
- 6:03Speaker 2: we come down. I found a job and the recruiter
- 6:06Speaker 2: was like, oh, we have a location in Orlando. Orlando's
- 6:09Speaker 2: a hot spot for dentistry, like it's where everyone wants
- 6:12Speaker 2: to be, right, So it feels a little saturated, but
- 6:15Speaker 2: there's always opportunities that are calling. And so I took
- 6:18Speaker 2: an interview and I liked the practice, and I said, okay, yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 2: let's do it. First I did a phone interview and
- 6:25Speaker 2: then I did an in person interview. I liked it,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and I was like, this is where I want to go,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and so we came on down and it has been
- 6:34Speaker 2: really good. So I worked in that first location for
- 6:36Speaker 2: four years. I've been a dentis for eight years at
- 6:38Speaker 2: the time that we're recording this, so well almost eight years,
- 6:41Speaker 2: like eight years in a month. Eight years.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Eight years good, Okay.
- 6:44Speaker 2: So I've been a DNNIS for eight years at the
- 6:46Speaker 2: time that we were recording this, and so my first
- 6:48Speaker 2: four years in practice was at a corporate office in
- 6:52Speaker 2: a Papka and so I would have to commute very far.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But my baby was very young, and so at the
- 6:58Speaker 2: time it wasn't that big of a issue. But then
- 7:01Speaker 2: once I had my second baby, that's when I was like, Okay,
- 7:03Speaker 2: I need to be closer to where like we live.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And so then I transitioned into another practice, also still
- 7:09Speaker 2: in a corporate office on our side of town. So
- 7:12Speaker 2: we live on the east side of town. And so
- 7:15Speaker 2: it hasn't been a struggle, you know, being and working
- 7:19Speaker 2: as a dentist. I feel like I've had a lot
- 7:22Speaker 2: of great experience. Not only have I been able to
- 7:24Speaker 2: do all that, I have been able to learn about
- 7:27Speaker 2: the legislative side of dentistry, like advocating for both our patients,
- 7:32Speaker 2: advocating for the way that we practice from a legislative
- 7:35Speaker 2: perspective within the American Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you are the first African American and female president
- 7:46Speaker 1: of the ADA.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Well no, not the ADAH. I received that, but no, no, no,
- 7:50Speaker 2: not yet of the Dental Society of Greater Orlando's okay,
- 7:54Speaker 2: so it's that I know, yeah, yeah, that's that's still
- 7:56Speaker 2: a big deal because a lot of times when you
- 8:00Speaker 2: finished dental school, you go into practice and your head
- 8:03Speaker 2: is down, your focus on doing the dentistry. But there's
- 8:06Speaker 2: a big world of dentistry out there, and our patients
- 8:09Speaker 2: have to be advocated for so from an insurance perspective
- 8:12Speaker 2: and from a payment processing perspective, there's so many things,
- 8:16Speaker 2: lots of moving parts that if you only focus on,
- 8:20Speaker 2: like the clinical side, you will miss all of this opportunity.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And all of the people who are making the decisions
- 8:26Speaker 2: are those who show up, you know. So I mean
- 8:28Speaker 2: I can go down, yeah I could, But so, you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: what I.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Think is so interesting is so many dentists, I feel like,
- 8:39Speaker 1: have a practice that they leave to their children or
- 8:44Speaker 1: somewhere in their family. Like I shared with you, my
- 8:46Speaker 1: dad's best friend, who I've always considered an uncle, he
- 8:50Speaker 1: is now working in practice with his son, and your
- 8:55Speaker 1: first dentist she now brought her son in. And when
- 8:59Speaker 1: we chatting earlier, you said that you wanted to at
- 9:03Speaker 1: least have the opportunity to pass your practice one to
- 9:06Speaker 1: your two boys. And absolutely it is interesting. Do you
- 9:09Speaker 1: find that often that you see as a family office.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I feel like it's more common than it would be
- 9:15Speaker 1: for like doctor.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yes, or definitely because once we finished dental school, we
- 9:20Speaker 2: can go and open a practice. Now, I didn't do that.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I worked, like I told you, for some years and
- 9:25Speaker 2: so at the time that we're recording this, I'm acquiring
- 9:27Speaker 2: a practice. Every exciting, so excited.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So anybody that needs a dentist in Orlando or has
- 9:35Speaker 1: a dentist that they don't feel sunshine and rainbows when
- 9:39Speaker 1: they walk in the room doctor rightch your girl.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Hello, Okay, thank you so much for that. I love
- 9:44Speaker 2: that shout out. So I'm acquiring this practice, and like
- 9:47Speaker 2: I was sharing earlier before we started recording, like it
- 9:50Speaker 2: is for me as much as it is really for
- 9:54Speaker 2: the next generation. I'm very tied to who comes after
- 9:57Speaker 2: me because leading up to dentistry, I told you I
- 10:00Speaker 2: didn't have like my mom or my dad or an
- 10:03Speaker 2: aunt or uncle to really take me out of their
- 10:05Speaker 2: wing and say, hey, make these decisions. You need to
- 10:08Speaker 2: take these classes in order to get on this path,
- 10:10Speaker 2: I've kind of had to like feel around and figure
- 10:12Speaker 2: it out on my own. And I mean, granted I've
- 10:15Speaker 2: had mentors, but your mentors, they can take you only
- 10:17Speaker 2: so far, especially if you don't know what questions to ask,
- 10:19Speaker 2: if you don't know what information you need. Right. So
- 10:22Speaker 2: I want to do the groundwork and I want to
- 10:24Speaker 2: lay those tracks for my boys. In the state of Florida.
- 10:28Speaker 2: One funny fact is in the state of Florida, you
- 10:30Speaker 2: have to be a dentist in order to own a practice.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So even if they want to go into the entrepreneurial side,
- 10:36Speaker 2: like we talked about out there and have this different lifestyle,
- 10:39Speaker 2: or if they want to you know, do financial financial
- 10:42Speaker 2: you know, funding different practices or opening practices for the
- 10:46Speaker 2: next generation, they can as an owner of the practice
- 10:50Speaker 2: and as a dentist. So I want to have that
- 10:53Speaker 2: as an option for them. And I have so many
- 10:57Speaker 2: mentees that look to me. They find me through social
- 10:59Speaker 2: media strangely, but maybe not so strange. The world is changed, yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 2: the world has changed, so like there are so many
- 11:06Speaker 2: that have found me. And in the past seven eight years,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I haven't had really a place to bring them. I
- 11:13Speaker 2: could bring them to my corporate office, but I still
- 11:16Speaker 2: didn't have like my spin on it does that make sense?
- 11:19Speaker 1: It does.
- 11:19Speaker 2: So now I'll have like full creative control, like we
- 11:22Speaker 2: spoke about.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Well and with like the client experience, and I think
- 11:27Speaker 1: knowing your personality and you are not a cookie cutter
- 11:30Speaker 1: kind of No.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I'm not. You're figured out already.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So you're going to have creative control over truly making
- 11:39Speaker 1: a client feel like they're in your practice absolutely the
- 11:42Speaker 1: minute they walk in the door. Absolutely, that's exciting.
- 11:45Speaker 2: That's what I want. I can't wait. There's so many
- 11:48Speaker 2: developments that's gonna come about, and so you know you'll
- 11:51Speaker 2: be seeing some stuff on socials and yeah, we'll be.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Okay, well, I'm here for it. I'm so excited. I
- 11:57Speaker 1: So for you, you're a doctor, ye, I mean now
- 12:03Speaker 1: that is a totally different field than being an entrepreneur
- 12:07Speaker 1: or a business owner. So as you have built this practice,
- 12:11Speaker 1: do you feel that you are equipped with all of
- 12:15Speaker 1: the things that you need? And what I mean by
- 12:19Speaker 1: that is obviously your equipped now as you're going through
- 12:22Speaker 1: this process, But was it a big transition of learning
- 12:25Speaker 1: as you go to figure out, okay, how do I
- 12:28Speaker 1: perform as a dentist, but also now pick up this
- 12:31Speaker 1: other hat in addition to mom and wife and friend
- 12:33Speaker 1: and all the things to now be a business owner.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I love this question.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Did you feel prepared or did you have to build
- 12:40Speaker 1: the plane while it was already in.
- 12:41Speaker 2: The Oh yeah, oh, I love this question. Let's go.
- 12:44Speaker 2: So I definitely did not feel prepared because, to directly
- 12:48Speaker 2: answer your question, in dentistry, in school, we only learn
- 12:51Speaker 2: how to be a clinician. So we come out, we
- 12:54Speaker 2: can do the hand skills, we can diagnose, we can
- 12:56Speaker 2: read X rays, we can identify abnormalities, and we can
- 13:00Speaker 2: you know, put that up against something that's supposed to
- 13:01Speaker 2: be normal. We can do all of those things and
- 13:03Speaker 2: really really well. Right, But that business side not even
- 13:08Speaker 2: a part of the curriculum, only like a snippet of
- 13:10Speaker 2: it at the end. Yeah, and rightfully so, because if
- 13:15Speaker 2: we did have a lot of that business training, we
- 13:17Speaker 2: would be in school for like two extra years if
- 13:20Speaker 2: we really wanted it to be like quality. But there's
- 13:22Speaker 2: this phrase, like I think in all industries, like lifelong learning, right,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and so you kind of have to take interest in it.
- 13:28Speaker 2: So I'm going to go back to your initial statement
- 13:31Speaker 2: about there being a difference between being a doctor and
- 13:34Speaker 2: a business owner or an entrepreneur. So interestingly enough, that's
- 13:39Speaker 2: what we think as dentists, but we are really business
- 13:43Speaker 2: owners and we are entrepreneurs when we go into private practice.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Oh for sure, that's the thing.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But a lot of people don't put on that hat.
- 13:50Speaker 2: They keep their head down and they only focus on
- 13:52Speaker 2: the dentistry and they say, oh, somebody else you handle that?
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yes, well, and I think that it is when you're
- 13:58Speaker 1: talking about truly build on a client experience, you have
- 14:02Speaker 1: to remember that you're the one in charge and so
- 14:04Speaker 1: many and when you say that, like going to dental school,
- 14:08Speaker 1: you didn't learn any of that.
- 14:10Speaker 2: No one is knowing no, no one's.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Learning how to truly run a business to be an entrepreneur.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And there are schools and tracks that you can learn that, right,
- 14:19Speaker 1: But I think the world, as we've already both said,
- 14:23Speaker 1: has changed so much in this entrepreneurship hype that is
- 14:29Speaker 1: around all of us right now. It's like that elusive
- 14:33Speaker 1: I want to do that, but how do I do it?
- 14:35Speaker 1: And thankfully, when you go to school to be a
- 14:38Speaker 1: dentist or any a lawyer, anything, the grit that gets
- 14:44Speaker 1: you through that, I think is such a big tool
- 14:46Speaker 1: that you can make applicable to being a business owner,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but I'd love to hear also your story. How was
- 14:54Speaker 1: your relationship with money growing up? Did you have somebody
- 14:59Speaker 1: that kind of kind of was an example or that
- 15:03Speaker 1: taught you positive things about money?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Not really to what I can't say completely, not really,
- 15:11Speaker 2: So I will say up until about the end of
- 15:14Speaker 2: high school, okay, I literally didn't even know. Like I
- 15:19Speaker 2: only saw wealth, and I thought it existed only with celebrities.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I thought that, you know, whatever I saw on TV,
- 15:26Speaker 2: those were like the rich people, the rich people. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 2: and it was like so far away that it wasn't
- 15:32Speaker 2: something that we would ever have. So we were trying
- 15:36Speaker 2: to survive. Like, my mom was a single mom for
- 15:38Speaker 2: a long time. She did end up getting remarried. So
- 15:41Speaker 2: I have a stepdad and he's great, and so they
- 15:44Speaker 2: did the best that they could. You know, they taught
- 15:47Speaker 2: us good life principles, and you know, and I value
- 15:50Speaker 2: those a lot. I feel like I'm a lot wiser
- 15:53Speaker 2: than some people at my age, if that makes sense,
- 15:56Speaker 2: because you know, my parents are a little bit older.
- 15:59Speaker 2: But I did have this mentor who was actually a
- 16:02Speaker 2: teacher of mine from like third maybe second, I don't know.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Elementary up until middle school, okay, and I ended up
- 16:10Speaker 2: literally becoming a part of her family through her being
- 16:15Speaker 2: in my life so much. He pretty much took me
- 16:17Speaker 2: under her wing like I would do Christmases with them.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I just became their daughter, right, And they were the
- 16:24Speaker 2: first examples that I had that I could have something
- 16:28Speaker 2: better than what I had seen. And you know, we
- 16:30Speaker 2: always hear the phrase like you can't be what you
- 16:32Speaker 2: haven't seen, and so that was the first example that
- 16:36Speaker 2: I had had of something greater. Now I don't know
- 16:40Speaker 2: like their financial status, like if they're like wealthy and
- 16:42Speaker 2: like millionaires, billionaire, I don't know all of that, right,
- 16:45Speaker 2: but all I know is that what they showed me
- 16:48Speaker 2: was completely different than anything I had ever seen, Like
- 16:51Speaker 2: money wasn't. I just felt like there was not really
- 16:54Speaker 2: much restriction, whereas for us, we knew that we didn't
- 16:58Speaker 2: have it, you know what I mean. So that's that
- 17:00Speaker 2: was my first clear indicator that there was a difference.
- 17:04Speaker 1: There was something else out there.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, And so I am so thankful for that
- 17:10Speaker 2: experience because it exposed me in a way that I
- 17:14Speaker 2: had never been exposed. And that's why I want to
- 17:16Speaker 2: expose my children. Yeah, next generation. Yeah, yeah, And it makes.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Me so happy to hear that, because I feel like
- 17:24Speaker 1: the greatest gift that you can give to somebody watching
- 17:29Speaker 1: you is exposure to what else is out there. Yes,
- 17:33Speaker 1: growing up, I had my aunt and uncle who had
- 17:37Speaker 1: done very well. My parents were divorced. Yes, single mom,
- 17:41Speaker 1: but you know down penny, Yes, but I got to
- 17:47Speaker 1: peek behind the curtain, if you wis, and be like,
- 17:50Speaker 1: oh wow, so we go on this vacation that that's
- 17:53Speaker 1: all I've ever known. But when they're going, they're going
- 17:55Speaker 1: on like these big vacations, these big things, and exposing
- 18:01Speaker 1: young people to it, in my opinion, can make them
- 18:05Speaker 1: hungry to go after. And yeah, I love that you
- 18:10Speaker 1: said that because for our kids too, it's so important
- 18:14Speaker 1: and I would love to ask you so if for
- 18:17Speaker 1: anybody listening, I know you've heard me talk about this story.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But for me, growing up, I was chasing this lifestyle
- 18:26Speaker 1: right that entrepreneurship was the tool to get me there.
- 18:30Speaker 1: But I always said, when I feel or when I
- 18:35Speaker 1: get older, if I can have fresh flowers in my
- 18:37Speaker 1: house all the time, I love that. And if I
- 18:40Speaker 1: can have a refrigerator in my garage with drinks in
- 18:45Speaker 1: it only successful people have that. In my mind, that
- 18:49Speaker 1: is what it would look like. Was there anything that
- 18:52Speaker 1: sticks out for you with this family where like they
- 18:56Speaker 1: had this thing or whatever and you're like, oh that's
- 19:00Speaker 1: do you remember anything like that?
- 19:01Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I can say a few things, going on vacations,
- 19:05Speaker 2: having a motor home. So like one of my life
- 19:07Speaker 2: goals is I want to travel the country in a motorhome.
- 19:09Speaker 1: See, because I had never seen that young girl, and
- 19:13Speaker 1: I think that we're so impressionable. And that's why I
- 19:17Speaker 1: talk to you guys all the time on this podcast
- 19:19Speaker 1: about just pay attention who's watching you because you can
- 19:22Speaker 1: be changing their lives so far and now this. Are
- 19:25Speaker 1: you still close to this family?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah, they're they're my second parents. I call them the
- 19:28Speaker 2: mom my mom, which is my other mom.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, can you imagine like when you were going
- 19:34Speaker 1: over there, she had no idea that here you are,
- 19:37Speaker 1: as a grown woman successful that part of your journey
- 19:41Speaker 1: is I want to have a motor home, yeah, to
- 19:43Speaker 1: travel because of what you saw.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they were great. Yes, I had no idea that
- 19:47Speaker 2: this even existed. Like they had a pool of course,
- 19:50Speaker 2: so that was an indicator. And this is another one
- 19:52Speaker 2: which you know, we can have our differences on this,
- 19:54Speaker 2: but so I think a credit card, Like, we didn't
- 19:57Speaker 2: have a credit card in my house, and so I
- 19:59Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I learned what a charge
- 20:01Speaker 2: card was from them. I had no idea what a
- 20:04Speaker 2: credit card or any of that was. That meant a
- 20:08Speaker 2: lot to me. That's access. It is access.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It is now. And you think, I'm sure that you've
- 20:16Speaker 1: got you know, you've got your boys, but do you
- 20:17Speaker 1: have nieces and nephews around you?
- 20:19Speaker 2: And Fridah, I try and expose them way more and
- 20:23Speaker 2: I'm always like, I'm like that Aunt. I'm like, come
- 20:25Speaker 2: over here at Aunt's house, like y'all want to go
- 20:27Speaker 2: home with me? And I'm like, I just want to
- 20:29Speaker 2: show them, you know, what's possible. Yeah.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So I took my nieces to Italy for their sixteenth
- 20:35Speaker 1: birthday and it was something that for me was so important.
- 20:41Speaker 1: When I made this promise, they were three and I
- 20:47Speaker 1: I could not imagine a path forward. I just knew
- 20:51Speaker 1: I said it, and now I had to make it happen. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 1: and we did it last year. We did it. And
- 20:56Speaker 1: on the way home from that trip, my niece both
- 21:01Speaker 1: of them were like Wow. So I think it made
- 21:04Speaker 1: them look at entrepreneurship in a different way, not just
- 21:07Speaker 1: about money, but about being able to leave and go
- 21:12Speaker 1: on a trip, freedom, having the freedom and the autonomy of time.
- 21:16Speaker 1: And one of my nieces said to me, I want
- 21:20Speaker 1: to change my major and I want to do what
- 21:23Speaker 1: you do because you get to help women all the
- 21:26Speaker 1: time and the lifestyle you've built. And she doesn't understand this,
- 21:32Speaker 1: but her saying that, like I just have goosebumps, right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: is the greatest gift that she could have ever given me.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Because someone gave that to me, someone to you, She's
- 21:41Speaker 1: going to give that to someone else. And that's where
- 21:44Speaker 1: we change the narrative. That's where we change what financial
- 21:48Speaker 1: wellness and success stories look like for women that are
- 21:53Speaker 1: typically not at the same table or golf course the
- 21:57Speaker 1: guys that are having.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Found love that so much. Yeah, it's a gift.
- 22:02Speaker 1: So you're going to get the mobile home. I not
- 22:04Speaker 1: the mobile home, the motor home.
- 22:05Speaker 2: The motor home.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, when is that happening?
- 22:08Speaker 2: Oh? You know, that might be far love goals? Oh
- 22:12Speaker 2: you know, I do I help people reach remember maybe
- 22:15Speaker 2: like five years. Okay, I would love that to happen.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We have the receipts everybody hold are accountable to this.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Now we just need to figure out.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It mightn't even take five years. To be honest with you, like,
- 22:27Speaker 2: I believe in abundance and I feel like I will
- 22:29Speaker 2: attract you know, good things my way.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Well, and that's a really powerful thing you just said, tokay,
- 22:33Speaker 1: because so much of what we talk about is money
- 22:37Speaker 1: mine's mindset, and I think for young women or any
- 22:42Speaker 1: woman out there, yeah, we don't even realize the things
- 22:45Speaker 1: we carry with us an unpack. I have had so
- 22:47Speaker 1: many guests on this podcast that will say growing up,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I didn't I wasn't exposed to wealth. Yeah, so for me,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I thought of people that were wealthier. They were like.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Snood, yeah, selfish and yeah.
- 23:02Speaker 1: But that's all money mindset, and it's done. She from
- 23:05Speaker 1: going after it because she don't identify as those things.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I just realized. I just thought that I could
- 23:09Speaker 2: never have it. I didn't realize that it was for me.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And it was when I was in college. There was
- 23:15Speaker 2: a church that I was attending and the pastor he
- 23:17Speaker 2: was very vocal about prosperity, and you know that can
- 23:21Speaker 2: be a very controversial topic in like the spiritual space,
- 23:25Speaker 2: and so I would always like lean in whenever he
- 23:27Speaker 2: talked about prosperity and he talked about entrepreneurship because he
- 23:31Speaker 2: was a businessman. I loved it so much too. And
- 23:35Speaker 2: at the time I don't think I was mature enough
- 23:37Speaker 2: to understand some of the lessons that he was teaching
- 23:39Speaker 2: us through scripture and through the sermons. But now going
- 23:43Speaker 2: into entrepreneurship for real, like full time entrepreneurship, like leaving
- 23:48Speaker 2: my corporate job, some of those same stories come back,
- 23:51Speaker 2: and I'm so thankful that I heard those when I
- 23:54Speaker 2: was like twenty. You know, it didn't apply to me
- 23:57Speaker 2: at that time. Like even thinking about I don't know
- 23:59Speaker 2: if I can tell about numbers, but even thinking about
- 24:01Speaker 2: a salary of a hunt. I remember talking to him
- 24:03Speaker 2: one time about being in a panic about making one
- 24:06Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars or making one hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
- 24:09Speaker 2: and he's like, I don't understand what the big deal is, like,
- 24:11Speaker 2: but I was like, it is a big deal because
- 24:14Speaker 2: I don't know what. Yeah, it was a big.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Deal, Yeah, God is huge. You've done it. Yeah he
- 24:21Speaker 1: had correct so I think, but what he gave you yes, mindset.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, And I love that.
- 24:27Speaker 1: He did not make it counterproductive to your walk with God.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Knowledge, and you know, I think it's so important to
- 24:37Speaker 1: identify and that can even be a money mindset and
- 24:41Speaker 1: baggage we catch.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Absolutely. I honestly felt so comfortable talking to him. It
- 24:46Speaker 2: was him and his wife and they were entrepreneurial, and
- 24:49Speaker 2: so I just felt like there was something. But I
- 24:51Speaker 2: didn't really know when it would like hit me. But
- 24:55Speaker 2: I was always intrigued when he talked about it, like
- 24:58Speaker 2: wealth and you know, being entreprene you being in business,
- 25:01Speaker 2: and I didn't really know what it was. But now
- 25:04Speaker 2: I'm like, ah, those stories they are coming back now.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Well and statistically women with money do good with their money, yes,
- 25:13Speaker 1: and it doesn't mean that the boys don't. So I'm
- 25:17Speaker 1: very sensitive to that.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Ye love that.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I find it so interesting. And for me,
- 25:25Speaker 1: even with having leukemia as a teenager and then like
- 25:29Speaker 1: trying to think through chasing after abundance, it was constantly
- 25:34Speaker 1: a roadblock for me to think, well, I'm healthy and
- 25:37Speaker 1: that's I don't want to ask for anything else. But
- 25:40Speaker 1: if you reimagine and shift your money mindset around what
- 25:45Speaker 1: can I do with this to impact the people around me,
- 25:49Speaker 1: even if it is only providing a clear vision and
- 25:54Speaker 1: pass for the younger people that you love that around you,
- 25:57Speaker 1: like you say, come to my house. Yes, that matters.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And that's what the thing that I will always take
- 26:03Speaker 2: from those conversations he would be, he would always say,
- 26:07Speaker 2: what you could do with wealth. It's not about like
- 26:10Speaker 2: it just magnifies because people say, oh, you're da. However,
- 26:14Speaker 2: he's like, it just magnifies who you already are when
- 26:17Speaker 2: you get money. Yeah, And so he's like, if you
- 26:20Speaker 2: are this way already, you're just going to be more
- 26:22Speaker 2: that way. And so if you're a good and you're
- 26:24Speaker 2: a good steward to begin with, you're gonna be a
- 26:27Speaker 2: better steward and you're gonna have more to do and
- 26:30Speaker 2: more impact that you can make in the community, the
- 26:32Speaker 2: world and your sphere of influence. And that's that's really
- 26:35Speaker 2: what I want. I want to make an impact on
- 26:37Speaker 2: the people around me.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I agree, And I think that for anybody listening who
- 26:41Speaker 1: isn't sure what that impact. And listen, we are both
- 26:45Speaker 1: sitting here and fully aware that everybody is at a
- 26:49Speaker 1: different stage of their own money journey, right, So yeah, sure,
- 26:54Speaker 1: it's easy for us to talk about abundance and being
- 26:57Speaker 1: able to give because we're muddling through this. I think
- 27:02Speaker 1: for anybody that thinks I don't even know what that
- 27:05Speaker 1: would feel like, I would challenge you if this would
- 27:08Speaker 1: help on the money mindset. The next time you're going
- 27:11Speaker 1: through a Starbucks or a drive through, pay for the
- 27:13Speaker 1: car behind you, and I'm telling you that is the
- 27:17Speaker 1: best exercise to just see you're giving with nothing in return,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and it's three dollars or four dollars. I have gotten
- 27:26Speaker 1: caught doing that once with it like the guy behind
- 27:28Speaker 1: you's order is thirty five fifty. I'm planning on that.
- 27:32Speaker 1: But the point is is if you need and you're
- 27:36Speaker 1: not sure if what that would feel like, and you're like, man,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I want to feel what it would feel like, do
- 27:42Speaker 1: something small like that. It's amazing what giving a gift
- 27:47Speaker 1: to others can do to reshift your own money mindset.
- 27:52Speaker 1: And I encourage everybody to look at money with abundance
- 27:58Speaker 1: and say, it is meant for all of us. It
- 28:01Speaker 1: is meant to be a part of our lives. It
- 28:03Speaker 1: is a tool you all. We all have the same toolbox.
- 28:08Speaker 1: It's what tools we put in and if having extra
- 28:11Speaker 1: money as a tool is something you want in your toolbox,
- 28:15Speaker 1: then that is okay to want it and strive for
- 28:17Speaker 1: it without feeling any kind of guilt or shame. And
- 28:20Speaker 1: I think that's so important.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I love that.
- 28:23Speaker 1: What do you think was the best or worst decision
- 28:28Speaker 1: you made with money as a young person that maybe
- 28:31Speaker 1: someone listening, yeah, would And I shouldn't say young person
- 28:35Speaker 1: because we're all different stages, but like best or worst
- 28:38Speaker 1: money decision that you ever made.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna start with worst, which was not paying off
- 28:43Speaker 2: my credit cards like that interests racking up, not even understanding,
- 28:48Speaker 2: oh my god, the interest, and now I'm like, uh,
- 28:51Speaker 2: I hate interest, Like what I have to pay interest?
- 28:54Speaker 2: You know, So I'm like, huh, we need to pay
- 28:56Speaker 2: that off. So not paying off my credit cards and
- 28:59Speaker 2: maybe the story is living above my means at the time.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Does that make sense? So yeah, so just not really
- 29:05Speaker 2: understanding like the impact that high interest credit cards would
- 29:09Speaker 2: have on like my own bottom line, if that makes sense,
- 29:14Speaker 2: it does, yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's going to be
- 29:17Speaker 2: a forever thing. I feel maybe it doesn't have to
- 29:20Speaker 2: be depending on like your money mindset, you know.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Well, it's shifting yeause you don't debt for people that
- 29:28Speaker 1: have been in debt, me included. You all know I
- 29:30Speaker 1: have terrible the movie Confessions of a Chopoholic.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Oh that was yours.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I should have truly gotten royalties, oh my gosh. But
- 29:40Speaker 1: I think that when you realize that debt doesn't have
- 29:44Speaker 1: to be bad, right, it also has to it can
- 29:48Speaker 1: be something that you say, I don't want any part
- 29:50Speaker 1: of this either, but understanding how compounding interest works, correct,
- 29:57Speaker 1: it is so important.
- 29:59Speaker 2: That I feel like that needs to be something that's
- 30:01Speaker 2: taught in school. I really do. And so we talked
- 30:05Speaker 2: to our boys about this right now, yea eight and.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Five, and it is. It's so important. And that's just
- 30:11Speaker 1: talking about changing generational habits. Right, I do the same thing.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And it's very easy to You want to be careful
- 30:21Speaker 1: to not give debt a negative or positive persona, right,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I think shifting the idea to you don't want to
- 30:29Speaker 1: buy something that you couldn't afford to do without the card.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Correct.
- 30:33Speaker 1: With that being said, using a credit card responsibly, yes,
- 30:37Speaker 1: basically is free. Yeah, Like if you travel a lot,
- 30:41Speaker 1: you find a travel card. But you've got to have
- 30:43Speaker 1: the discipline. So I think that Zach that's the first
- 30:46Speaker 1: layer of how do I work on the discipline side
- 30:49Speaker 1: of this.
- 30:50Speaker 2: It's like the behaviors that you have to hundred percent.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And especially with accumulating debt and how it feels. Yeah,
- 30:59Speaker 1: I mean, I've had to wake me up in the
- 31:01Speaker 1: middle of the day.
- 31:02Speaker 2: It's heavy.
- 31:03Speaker 1: You how much about debt. But I feel like if
- 31:08Speaker 1: anybody out there that is struggling with debt, I would
- 31:12Speaker 1: challenge you to think about how the credit card company
- 31:15Speaker 1: is feeling and they are living high on the hog, right,
- 31:19Speaker 1: put yourself in that position, because when you learn about
- 31:25Speaker 1: compounding interest, what a tool it is. If you invest
- 31:32Speaker 1: your money, even if it's very little, whatever you have
- 31:36Speaker 1: capacity to do a little goes a long way. And
- 31:40Speaker 1: now you're talking about you're in that position of you
- 31:45Speaker 1: You're putting your money out there and it's working for
- 31:47Speaker 1: you and that feels really good. So in those moments,
- 31:51Speaker 1: for anybody struggling and feel the heaviness and the weight
- 31:54Speaker 1: of debt, imagine what it would be like on the
- 31:56Speaker 1: flip side of that and let that be a motivator. Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 1: but that's great advice. Yeah, so not getting into credit
- 32:04Speaker 1: card debt? Yes, how did you get out of credit
- 32:07Speaker 1: card debt.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Pain lump songs, doing big like, so there's like either
- 32:11Speaker 2: the avalanche method or the snowball. Yes, so I tried
- 32:16Speaker 2: both and I use both like I.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Want to favor one over the other.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Now, it just depended on how much extra money that
- 32:22Speaker 2: I had, and I would just throw all of it
- 32:24Speaker 2: at the credit cards at that time.
- 32:26Speaker 1: If anybody listening doesn't know the difference between those two things,
- 32:29Speaker 1: feel free to drop a DM or a message in
- 32:34Speaker 1: the show notes that we can. I can send you
- 32:37Speaker 1: resources very good tools.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, very good.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Makes it feel doable, feasible, yep.
- 32:44Speaker 2: And you know, in other way is like talking about it.
- 32:46Speaker 2: So a lot of time, I'm married, and so me
- 32:47Speaker 2: and my husband we spend differently. So if you follow
- 32:50Speaker 2: some of these like gurus and these financial teachers online,
- 32:54Speaker 2: you know, everybody's like, oh, you have one spender who
- 32:57Speaker 2: like goes crazy and they spend, spend, spend, and then
- 32:58Speaker 2: there's somebody who like holds really really tightly. And so
- 33:01Speaker 2: we had to also talk about our spending habits and
- 33:03Speaker 2: our our thought processes what makes us spend, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 2: and the purchases because I like to spend a lot
- 33:10Speaker 2: on a whole bunch of or a little bit on
- 33:11Speaker 2: a whole bunch of things. So I feel like I
- 33:14Speaker 2: have a lot, whereas my husband he's okay with buying
- 33:16Speaker 2: one really expensive thing, and I'm like, you only got
- 33:19Speaker 2: one thing, you know, So we have different behaviors and
- 33:22Speaker 2: talking about it really has helped us too.
- 33:24Speaker 1: It's so true, it's so important. Money is a huge
- 33:29Speaker 1: conduit to people getting divorced. Correct, Yeah, very tricky.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know what I just thought of.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Tell me you think that the fact that you like
- 33:37Speaker 1: to have a lot of things, yeah, goes back to
- 33:40Speaker 1: a scarcity mindset of when.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Absolute, and that has evolved as I've learned more about
- 33:46Speaker 2: managing money having more of it, it's evolved even more.
- 33:51Speaker 1: And now what do you do with your kids? Because
- 33:52Speaker 1: I've talked about this before too, where like I'm sure
- 33:57Speaker 1: when you went to the store when you were younger
- 34:00Speaker 1: and you ask for something, the answer was always hard
- 34:03Speaker 1: and oh yeah, and now when I go to the
- 34:05Speaker 1: same thing for me, yeah, but now with my kids,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I've had to really check myself yep, and be like, Okay, no,
- 34:13Speaker 1: you cannot buy any of these things. You don't need
- 34:16Speaker 1: to get something. Every time we go to the store.
- 34:18Speaker 1: But it's like I'm trying to fill the cup of
- 34:20Speaker 1: that little girl. Yes, and then I need to realize
- 34:22Speaker 1: that I'm now like creating their own issues my mindset.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So it's like an ongoing game.
- 34:27Speaker 2: It is.
- 34:28Speaker 1: You're just working on this.
- 34:29Speaker 2: We are, We're just here, you know, and that's okay,
- 34:32Speaker 2: We're works in progress. So what I do with the boys,
- 34:34Speaker 2: it depends on the thing that they're asking for. So
- 34:37Speaker 2: we have this thing where we tell them to say,
- 34:39Speaker 2: is this in the budget? So even if we have yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 2: But I learned that from my college pastor in college,
- 34:46Speaker 2: so he would have his kids say do we have
- 34:48Speaker 2: the budget for this? Or is this in budget? And
- 34:50Speaker 2: so sometimes we say yes, and sometimes we say no,
- 34:53Speaker 2: oh no, not right now. But we also ask for
- 34:56Speaker 2: gift cards for their birthdays. So we'll pull from a
- 34:59Speaker 2: gift card and say, hey, you have Amazon gift cards,
- 35:02Speaker 2: you have Target gift cards, you have these towards the
- 35:05Speaker 2: rust was a thing way back when. Yeah, I know,
- 35:07Speaker 2: I know. And so we have all of these gift
- 35:09Speaker 2: cards and we'll say which gift card do you want
- 35:11Speaker 2: to use? Do you want to use it on an
- 35:13Speaker 2: experience or do you want a thing, and so we
- 35:15Speaker 2: also practice having them give away something like if we
- 35:19Speaker 2: buy something, they have to be willing to give something
- 35:21Speaker 2: away too, so that we don't just accumulate a whole
- 35:23Speaker 2: bunch of stuff.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah. I hate clutter.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Me too. Listen, physical clutter is mental clutter. I cannot, girl,
- 35:32Speaker 2: I'll get these arted.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I can't. I cannot where if everything is where it's
- 35:39Speaker 1: supposed to be, everything is fine, it's fine, And I'm
- 35:42Speaker 1: not going to be organized casts and I'm not going
- 35:44Speaker 1: to be a crazy person about it. But I try.
- 35:47Speaker 1: It's so easy, I know. And when you have too
- 35:49Speaker 1: much stuff, there's nowhere to put it. So the answer
- 35:52Speaker 1: is go back to that like doing good for others things, yes,
- 35:56Speaker 1: like drop it off at a women's shelter, yeah, or
- 36:00Speaker 1: something to make gifting yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's what we try to do. Yeah.
- 36:04Speaker 1: So where do you see your practice in five years?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Like what is the big picture for you and your
- 36:14Speaker 1: family and your practice?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah? I love that question. So and I think about
- 36:17Speaker 2: this a lot. I want to be a multi practice
- 36:20Speaker 2: owner because again, when as it relates to next generation,
- 36:24Speaker 2: I want the people who are my mentees right now.
- 36:27Speaker 2: So some of them are in dental school like as
- 36:29Speaker 2: we speak, okay, and they don't necessarily have a practice
- 36:32Speaker 2: to go to when they finish school, Okay, all right,
- 36:35Speaker 2: So I want them to continue working with me, And
- 36:39Speaker 2: I also want to teach them the business side, because
- 36:42Speaker 2: that's something that we don't get. So I want them
- 36:44Speaker 2: to have a place to practice and to take care
- 36:46Speaker 2: of their patients. And so I want to have multiple
- 36:48Speaker 2: sites so that they can come and have a practice
- 36:52Speaker 2: and then potentially partner in. And so I'm putting it
- 36:55Speaker 2: out there. I'm saying it to the world that this
- 36:57Speaker 2: is okay, I love it. Yeah, I want to have
- 37:00Speaker 2: multiple how many places? Oh, you know, I'm not gonna
- 37:04Speaker 2: put a limit on it, Okay, Yeah, I'm okay with
- 37:07Speaker 2: as many as God will give me. To be honest,
- 37:10Speaker 2: I do believe I'm a good steward. And I think
- 37:12Speaker 2: not only of like physical and tangible resources, but of
- 37:16Speaker 2: other people's like their trust that you know, that matters
- 37:20Speaker 2: to me a lot.
- 37:20Speaker 1: So and that's true because if you're teaching them and
- 37:23Speaker 1: helping them and mentoring them, Yeah, you only have so
- 37:26Speaker 1: much capacity exactly, But we don't know what the number is.
- 37:28Speaker 2: We're gonna say, yeah, but there's there's there's a quote
- 37:31Speaker 2: that I love which says, if you give a man
- 37:33Speaker 2: of fish, you feed him for a day, but if
- 37:36Speaker 2: you teach a man of fish, you feed him for
- 37:37Speaker 2: a lifetime. So I hope to keep that cycle going
- 37:41Speaker 2: of people wanting to own and then teach and then
- 37:44Speaker 2: you know, pass on the knowledge.
- 37:46Speaker 1: So that's yeah, great, that's just.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I don't know, that's what I want to do.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Okay. So as you hire people for this office, yeah,
- 37:54Speaker 1: are we going to see lots of women in there?
- 37:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah? Oh yeah.
- 37:57Speaker 1: It's amazing too with how many people that are women
- 38:00Speaker 1: business owners. Even when it's a big business or a
- 38:05Speaker 1: business where there's like four employees, how many of.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Them probably have like four or five. Yeah, but that's okay.
- 38:11Speaker 2: You know, I feel like, I know I'm called to
- 38:13Speaker 2: be a conduit and like a connector. And so when
- 38:16Speaker 2: I think of my employees, and you know, there's some
- 38:19Speaker 2: future employees that I still have in mind. When I
- 38:21Speaker 2: think of them, I think of, like, what is their
- 38:23Speaker 2: career trajectory, what do they want to do? And I
- 38:25Speaker 2: want to start those conversations from the beginning because I
- 38:27Speaker 2: want them to know that there's something bigger because I've
- 38:30Speaker 2: tapped into something bigger than just the four walls of
- 38:33Speaker 2: clinical dentistry and just focusing on a tooth. And I
- 38:36Speaker 2: want them to know that there's more for them if
- 38:39Speaker 2: they desire to have it. What.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I love that because all eyes are on you. Yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 1: you know when you ask for the platform.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Now we're making big things happen, I know. So Okay,
- 38:56Speaker 1: So with your boys, Yeah, the goal is for them
- 38:59Speaker 1: to go into practice, hopefully.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Be desired or be entrepreneurs.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but just be really good stewards with their
- 39:08Speaker 1: money and their resources.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 39:10Speaker 1: If there was one piece of advice that you could
- 39:13Speaker 1: give yourself, okay, at let's say senior year of college,
- 39:19Speaker 1: h or maybe even right after as you were starting
- 39:24Speaker 1: off on this journey, Yeah, knowing where you're headed. Yeah,
- 39:26Speaker 1: what would you say to that young woman?
- 39:29Speaker 2: Do it sooner? Go balsa walls? Like you pretty much
- 39:32Speaker 2: have it already, You're your biggest barrier. I can say
- 39:37Speaker 2: so many things, like I could have probably been in
- 39:40Speaker 2: practice for myself at year two, like I've always been
- 39:45Speaker 2: connected to like the business side, like taking great care
- 39:48Speaker 2: of the patients and then focusing on the numbers, like
- 39:51Speaker 2: how are we doing as a practice, measuring our growth
- 39:54Speaker 2: and our success. And so I would tell her do
- 39:57Speaker 2: it sooner. Be bold, be unapologetic. You have what it takes,
- 40:03Speaker 2: and if you don't have it, you have someone who
- 40:05Speaker 2: has your answer. And make that call and take up
- 40:08Speaker 2: the space, take up all the space. Yes, and I.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Do love what you just said about finding the resources,
- 40:15Speaker 1: because nobody, no matter how little or how much you
- 40:20Speaker 1: think that they have in their corner, everybody.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Needs someone the team.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Everybody needs the village.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Absolutely. Oh, I mean.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Here with parents parenting, it takes a village. The reality
- 40:34Speaker 1: is being in this world business owner or corporate America,
- 40:41Speaker 1: it takes a village.
- 40:43Speaker 2: I can't do anything without my team like that, I
- 40:46Speaker 2: believe I need someone cheerside, I need someone answering the phones.
- 40:49Speaker 2: I can't do all of that. I need my team.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Absolutely, find your village. Find all of the people that
- 40:56Speaker 1: are going to help you be a success. And then
- 40:58Speaker 1: subsequently you know they'll help you and you'll help them.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And a lovely thing.
- 41:04Speaker 2: This is good?
- 41:05Speaker 1: What is as we wrap this up? Okay, what is
- 41:10Speaker 1: your one dental tip for everybody? Oh?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Brush twice a day, floss at least once a day,
- 41:16Speaker 2: you have to and using traditional floss, not only like
- 41:20Speaker 2: one of those wa yeah, like a water pick or
- 41:23Speaker 2: an air flosser or anything. Those are great adjunctively, but
- 41:27Speaker 2: you want to use traditional stream floss. And if you
- 41:29Speaker 2: have to do something on the go, I'm okay with
- 41:31Speaker 2: you using a little pick.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Okay. And then last thing as ye as a mom. Yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 1: do you have like special ties with the tooth fairy?
- 41:39Speaker 2: Oh?
- 41:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I do.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I am the tooth fairy like we're whispering. Yeah, I
- 41:46Speaker 2: feel like I say.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I bribe my kids all the time, and I'll say,
- 41:50Speaker 1: the tooth fairy is going to look at that tooth
- 41:52Speaker 1: and be like, oh, not leaving any money for that thing.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I love that.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Oh that's great. Oh that's good. I always ask my
- 42:01Speaker 2: friends like how much money does your tooth fairy leave?
- 42:03Speaker 2: And some of them are like, oh my god, twenty dollars.
- 42:05Speaker 2: I'm like for it. Who WHOOA one tooth ory is rich?
- 42:08Speaker 2: You know money? Mindset though?
- 42:11Speaker 1: Mindset?
- 42:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:12Speaker 1: So well so for anybody listening, Yeah, where can they
- 42:15Speaker 1: follow along kind on your journey or get in touch
- 42:19Speaker 1: with you? Because guys, I don't know if it translates,
- 42:22Speaker 1: if you're just listening or watching on YouTube. But she
- 42:26Speaker 1: is amazing and make like feels good. Find rooms that
- 42:31Speaker 1: she's in and get in those room of us. Where
- 42:33Speaker 1: can they find them?
- 42:34Speaker 2: They can find me on socials. I'm the Daily Dentist
- 42:37Speaker 2: and I also have started a women's network for multi
- 42:40Speaker 2: passionate women in dentistry. It's called Dental fem. We didn't
- 42:43Speaker 2: get into that, but we can another time. It's called
- 42:45Speaker 2: Dental Feme and you could just connect with me on
- 42:48Speaker 2: any of the platforms, Threads, Instagram, Facebook. Yeah. So the
- 42:53Speaker 2: Daily Dentist.
- 42:54Speaker 1: So the networking group is that strictly for women in
- 42:58Speaker 1: your field?
- 42:59Speaker 2: Yeah, multi passionate women in dentistry. But you don't have
- 43:02Speaker 2: to be a dentist. You have to be somewhere in
- 43:04Speaker 2: the dental worldness or in.
- 43:06Speaker 1: The office or something.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Yeah. So we're going to be talking about like financial literacy,
- 43:11Speaker 2: being entrepreneurial, using your talents, leveraging your gifts, podcasting, all
- 43:17Speaker 2: of the things that I've somehow tapped into as a dentist,
- 43:20Speaker 2: and the fact that we have so many skills that
- 43:23Speaker 2: are transferable outside of the office.
- 43:25Speaker 1: And I hear that you may be the next rising
- 43:29Speaker 1: star in the podcast world.
- 43:30Speaker 2: You know, I'm doing a little something, so whatever. You know,
- 43:34Speaker 2: I'm open to any door that's going to open. That's
- 43:37Speaker 2: the door for me, and you know, I just pray
- 43:39Speaker 2: that it's one that no man can shut and only
- 43:42Speaker 2: he can open.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I love that. Well, thank you, thank you so much
- 43:47Speaker 1: for spending the afternoon with me. Absolutely, and let's make
- 43:51Speaker 1: a habit of it.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Let's do it. Yeah, let's do this.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Thank you all for listening and joining. As always, I
- 43:59Speaker 1: hope that you get something out of this that is tangible,
- 44:02Speaker 1: that makes you feel good about where you're at, the
- 44:04Speaker 1: journey you're on. And as always, like subscribe, share all
- 44:10Speaker 1: the things, and let's change the way women think and
- 44:13Speaker 1: feel about money.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Let's get it.
