- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So I'm shooting this right now because there's an unusual thing
- 0:34going on, like it's bedtime. They should be going to bed and
- 0:37you can hear them. They're all flipping out and
- 0:40screaming. And I really, honestly have no
- 0:43idea why and it is cracking me up.
- 0:47At first I thought there was something wrong in the coop and
- 0:50the chickens are the most curious creatures and you just
- 0:53sometimes have to like, stop and pause and go.
- 0:56What is happening? They're all lined up at the
- 0:59front. Some of them are inside and
- 1:02everybody has got something happening.
- 1:04Nothing's here. I don't know why they're so
- 1:07worked up. I'm looking around.
- 1:08I'm like, maybe there's a snake in the coop, maybe there's
- 1:11something else. I don't see anything.
- 1:13I mean, there's nothing unusual. I'm walking around, I'm checking
- 1:16everything. Nothing unusual.
- 1:18And they're just worked up. You know, sometimes it happens.
- 1:24I just haven't seen it like this in a very long time.
- 1:27Most of them are up in the rafters already.
- 1:29We'll go up their little ladders and go ready to sleep.
- 1:32But but there are some like Sabrina, who you can hear
- 1:34screeching, very worked up. No idea why.
- 1:38But in any event, it's funny to me because this is exactly what
- 1:42happens to humans sometimes We don't know what we're panicking
- 1:45about, but there's panic happening and there and we get
- 1:47worked up and we're like, really?
- 1:49Do we need to be this worked up about it?
- 1:51And the answer is no, we don't probably need to be this worked
- 1:54up. But right now there is a handful
- 1:56of them that are very worked up. And it just always makes me
- 2:00laugh when I can draw those parallels to, you know, how we
- 2:06react, how we show up when we do things and how we get so worked
- 2:10up about something. And do we need to be that worked
- 2:13up about it? Like, all of a sudden, they're
- 2:15calming down. Sabrina, shut up.
- 2:17And everybody else stopped panicking too.
- 2:20So see how contagious emotions can be.
- 2:24Doesn't matter if they're in an animal, doesn't matter if
- 2:26they're in a person, they are contagious.
- 2:30So when something happens and one goes off, they all go off.
- 2:34And I feel as though if we did a better job looking at the the
- 2:40level of contagion we're walking in, we wouldn't necessarily.
- 2:44And that's not just like walking into, it's walking in ourselves.
- 2:48Like, what are we holding on ourselves at that point in time
- 2:52so that we don't have to to carry that with us and infect
- 2:56other people with it? You know, emotions are
- 2:58contagious. And there's no question in my
- 3:00mind that is a real thing. It is a very real situation.
- 3:05So we have to stop and pause and say to ourselves, am I really
- 3:09needing to feel this amped up where I'm going to pass my
- 3:12contagion on to someone else? It's an interesting question.
- 3:17Should I bring myself back a few octaves before I engage in
- 3:21anything? Another interesting question.
- 3:24And more importantly, through all of this, when you are in the
- 3:27process of working through it and trying to pull yourself back
- 3:32and you look at what the others around you are doing, just like
- 3:35what happened here in the chicken coop a few minutes ago.
- 3:38They're all looking at her and she's worked up and they're all
- 3:40joining in, but they have no clue why she's doing it.
- 3:43And they're just doing it to be part of what she's doing.
- 3:47And it's crazy how it works. And it doesn't matter if it's a
- 3:51chicken or a human, that's what happens.
- 3:54So I'm going to encourage everybody to take us a moment
- 3:59and say, hmm, the next time this shows up, do I want to engage in
- 4:02this? And it doesn't matter if
- 4:03someone's trying to engage you in eating things you don't want
- 4:07or drinking things you don't want, or, you know, bringing you
- 4:10into drama and you say, I don't want to gossip.
- 4:12And then all of a sudden someone shows up and they're gossiping
- 4:15and everybody's engaged in it. And you're just like, I know I
- 4:17shouldn't be doing this. It doesn't feel good.
- 4:19I don't want to do it. And yet we do it anyway.
- 4:22Well, because we're buying into it.
- 4:23And the truth is we shouldn't be buying into it.
- 4:25We should be changing our approach with it and we should
- 4:29be saying, Nope, that's not how I want to pass myself on and I'm
- 4:32not going to partake in that level of contagion.
- 4:35I'm not going to put it out there.
- 4:37I don't want to be part of the problem.
- 4:38I want to be part of the solution.
- 4:40So I refuse to allow that to happen and put the brakes on it
- 4:44so that you don't add fuel to the fire.
- 4:47It is an extremely important thing to do not to add fuel to
- 4:53the fire. You can be observant.
- 4:55You can watch what other people are doing, but you can't add
- 4:59fuel to the fire because if you do, then then you're not
- 5:03elevating yourself where you want to go.
- 5:05You're just being part of the fray and you're getting all
- 5:07worked up all over again. So don't be blind.
- 5:11Don't put a blind eye to it, really.
- 5:13Hunker down and see because it will make a massive difference.
- 5:17All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:20will see you tomorrow. Bye.
