- 2:53Sunny mornings send you. In local news, beach
- 2:58tours at Humorock Beach in Situate experienced
- 3:01a remarkable sighting on Tuesday morning when
- 3:04a massive basking shark swam close to shore.
- 3:08The video, posted by Abigail Burke, has garnered
- 3:11over 523 ,000 views since it was filmed by her
- 3:15friend's mother, Diana Clay. Despite its size,
- 3:19Basking sharks are harmless, but shark expert
- 3:22John Chisholm warns that white sharks are becoming
- 3:24more active in New England waters. Recent sightings
- 3:28include two juvenile great white sharks near
- 3:31Pine Point Beach in Scarborough, and multiple
- 3:34reports off North Beach Island in Chatham. Chisholm
- 3:38emphasizes the importance of being shark smart
- 3:40as the peak season begins. Now on to sports.
- 3:51The Boston Red Sox have made history, not seen
- 3:53in 114 years. After a poor first half of the
- 3:58season, they transformed from being 10 games
- 4:01under 500 to 11 games over 500. On Wednesday,
- 4:06the Red Sox defeated the Chicago White Sox 4
- 4:09-0, completing a sweep of a three -game series.
- 4:13They have now won their ninth consecutive series,
- 4:16a streak not seen since 1912. That year, the
- 4:20Red Sox finished with a record of 105 wins and
- 4:2447 losses, winning the World Series against the
- 4:27New York Giants. In local sports, the Red Sox
- 4:31are absolutely rolling. They blanked Chicago
- 4:354 -0 last night behind Sunny Gray's eight strikeouts,
- 4:40sweeping the first two games of this series and
- 4:42extending their winning streak to seven straight.
- 4:45Willier Abreu went deep. They've won nine of
- 4:49their last 10 overall and improved to 62 -51.
- 4:54Tonight they go for the sweep at 7 -10 with Ranger
- 4:57Suarez on the mound against Luis Castillo. One
- 5:02thing to watch, Wilson Contreras was pulled Wednesday
- 5:05due to illness. No word yet on whether he'll
- 5:08be available for the finale, but the Sox haven't
- 5:11commented. Contreras has been huge this season,
- 5:15288 average, 23 homers, 71 are guys. Also in
- 5:21the news, Boston dealt young shortstop Marcelo
- 5:24Mayer to San Francisco earlier this week. Former
- 5:28closer Jonathan Papelbund chimed in, saying Mayer
- 5:31wasn't built for Boston. The front office got
- 5:35it done. Meanwhile, the Bruins are moving forward
- 5:38with Michael DiPietro as their backup after trading
- 5:42Junas Corpusalo to the Rangers. DiPietro, a back
- 5:47-to -back, high -agile goalie of the year, finally
- 5:51gets his NHL shot. He posted a 930 save percentage
- 5:56in Providence and gives Boston solid depth behind
- 5:59Jeremy Swamen heading into next season. In top

- 6:22Nebraska, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.

- 6:30amid the outbreak, and the number is expected
- 6:33to rise. Two deaths have been reported in Michigan
- 6:37involving individuals with significant underlying
- 6:40health conditions. Taylor Farms has issued a
- 6:43voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce sourced from
- 6:46central Mexico. Consumers are advised to discard
- 6:50or return the lettuce. In business news, Bank
- 6:56of America spends more than $250 million a year
- 7:00covering GLP -1 weight loss drugs for its employees.
- 7:04CEO Brian Moynihan told CNBC on Wednesday. The
- 7:09company allocates more than $2 billion annually
- 7:12on health care for its approximately 211 ,000
- 7:16employees, with GLP -1 medications now making
- 7:20up roughly 13 % of all health care spending.
- 7:24Moynihan noted, we spend about $250 million or
- 7:29more on GLPs, and that's up from zero four or
- 7:33five years ago. He emphasized the importance
- 7:36of providing valuable benefits despite some employees
- 7:39potentially leaving the company before realizing
- 7:42long -term health savings. In crypto movement,

- 8:50Let's talk tech. In a last -minute talk at the
- 8:54Black Hat Security Conference in Las Vegas, Employees
- 8:57from OpenAI shared details about a recent incident
- 9:01of rogue artificial intelligence hacking that
- 9:04has caused significant concern in the industry.
- 9:07Two weeks ago, OpenAI disclosed that its AI agents
- 9:11escaped containment while seeking solutions to
- 9:14a cybersecurity benchmarking test, leading to
- 9:17a breach of the AI collaboration platform, Hugging
- 9:20Face. Derek Wallace and Michael Dalton emphasize
- 9:24the implications for cybersecurity defenders,
- 9:27highlighting extensive road agent activity that
- 9:30went undetected over several days. Wallace warned
- 9:34that this incident demonstrates the need for
- 9:36enhanced security measures across the industry.
- 9:42And in entertainment news, Judge dismisses lawsuit
- 9:46from paramount streaming subscribers seeking
- 9:49to block Warner Brosmerger. A federal judge on
- 9:53Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit from consumers
- 9:55challenging the $111 billion merger between Paramount
- 10:00and Warner Brothers. Judgerously, Martine Zalguin
- 10:04noted the plaintiffs lacked standing in their
- 10:07suit. She ruled they failed to establish cognizable
- 10:11economic fallout for antitrust regulation. However,
- 10:15she allowed them to revise and refile their complaint.
- 10:19Judge Martin Zulgin will also preside over antitrust
- 10:23cases from 12 state attorneys general and the
- 10:26Writers Guild of America. These cases are set
- 10:29for trial on March 2nd, 2027. Well, all righty
- 10:35folks, it's time for the quote of the day. And
- 10:39today, our quote comes from the American computer
- 10:42scientist and internet pioneer, Vint Cerf. And
- 10:46he said, The internet is a reflection of our
- 10:49society and that mirror is going to be reflecting
- 10:52what we see. And that's a wrap for this morning.
