- 0:00Welcome to the Slippery Slope podcast on J Fallon.
- 0:03Today we're looking at a story out of Canada that perfectly
- 0:06captures the internal contradictions of modern
- 0:09progressive politics and why the ideology of equity always
- 0:14collapses under its own weight. Last week, Canada's New
- 0:19Democratic Party held what was supposed to be a unifying
- 0:23National Convention in Winnipeg. The theme was Predictable
- 0:28Progressive Politics, shared values, shaping the future, all
- 0:32the usual slogans. But instead of unity, the whole
- 0:36thing descended into chaos. Why?
- 0:40Because the NDP decided to hand out something I've never really
- 0:45heard of before, they called Equity Cards.
- 0:48These were color-coded badges meant to identify members of
- 0:52so-called marginalized groups and give them special
- 0:56privileges, including priority access to microphones during
- 1:00debates. Yes, a major political party in
- 1:04a Western democracy literally created a system where people
- 1:08were ranked by identity to determine who gets to speak
- 1:13first. Oh, the irony.
- 1:15And shockingly, or maybe not shockingly at all, the system
- 1:18blew up almost immediately. One delegate was furious because
- 1:23she claimed she was skipped in the speaking queue, despite
- 1:28holding a gender equity card and standing at the microphone.
- 1:33A transgender delegate complained that a cisgender
- 1:37woman had spoken over her, insisting her rights are under
- 1:42attack. A Black woman argued that her
- 1:45equity card has no value outside this space, which might be the
- 1:50most honest statement of the entire weekend.
- 1:54Even the conference chair who identifies as non binary,
- 1:59snapped at a delegate for addressing them as Madam Chair.
- 2:04Can you imagine being so committed to identity politics
- 2:07that even basic parliamentary language becomes offensive?
- 2:12What was supposed to be a polished display and progressive
- 2:16unity turned into a chaotic competition over who is the most
- 2:21marginalized, who deserves the most special treatment, and who
- 2:26has the most moral authority to speak.
- 2:28This is the inevitable outcome of a worldview built on equity,
- 2:33not equality. Equality says everyone gets the
- 2:38same opportunity. Equity says we will engineer
- 2:42outcomes by elevating some and suppressing others.
- 2:48And once you start dividing people into categories and
- 2:51assigning privileges based on identity, you create a system
- 2:55where the loudest fights aren't about ideas, they're about
- 2:59status within the oppression hierarchy.
- 3:02The NDP didn't just host a political conference, they
- 3:06hosted a live demonstration of the internal contradictions of
- 3:11their own ideology. What the Bible actually says
- 3:18about equality. Here's the part that
- 3:22progressives never want to talk about.
- 3:25The Bible speaks directly to the issue of equality, and it does
- 3:30not support this modern equity framework.
- 3:36The New Testament condemns favoritism and partiality
- 3:40outright. Ephesians 69.
- 3:42James 21. James 29.
- 3:45Scripture is crystal clear. Favoritism corrupts justice.
- 3:49Paul even warned Timothy that maintaining fairness is a sacred
- 3:53responsibility. Keep these instructions without
- 3:56partiality, he says, and do nothing out of favoritism.
- 4:00One Timothy 521. In other words, God doesn't tell
- 4:05us to elevate certain groups above others, He tells us to
- 4:10treat people without favoritism because every person is
- 4:14accountable before him. The Bible also teaches that
- 4:18every human being has intrinsic value, dignity, and worth
- 4:22because we are made in the image of God.
- 4:26Genesis 126 to 27. That's real equality, not
- 4:32manufactured outcomes, not identity hierarchies, not
- 4:36color-coded privilege cards. Even when Scripture acknowledges
- 4:41differences between nations, roles, or social positions, it
- 4:46never diminishes the dignity of any person.
- 4:50God's standard is consistent, equal worth, equal
- 4:55accountability, equal moral responsibility.
- 4:59And then there's Jesus. Jesus was equal with God the
- 5:02Father, yet he didn't cling to that status or use it for
- 5:07personal advantage. Philippians 2 says he did not
- 5:11consider equality with God something to be used to his own
- 5:15advantage. Rather, he made himself nothing,
- 5:18taking the nature of a servant. So the Jesus did not play the
- 5:23victim. He didn't demand special
- 5:26treatment. He didn't insist on privilege.
- 5:30He laid down his rights to serve others.
- 5:34He experienced persecution, unequal treatment, and
- 5:38suffering. Yet he never weaponized his
- 5:42identity to gain power over others.
- 5:45That's the biblical model. Not entitlement, not grievance,
- 5:50not identity based privilege. So while the NDP was busy
- 5:57handing out equity cards and arguing over who deserved the
- 6:01microphone, scripture gives us a completely different picture.
- 6:08No favoritism, no partiality. Equal dignity for all people.
- 6:13Humility instead of entitlement. Service instead of status
- 6:18seeking. The chaos in Winnipeg wasn't
- 6:21just political dysfunction, it was a world view clash, a
- 6:25collision between man made identity hierarchies and God's
- 6:31design for human worth. As always, this is just my
- 6:40opinion. I'm Jay Fallon, thanks for
- 6:42listening to the Slippery Slope podcast.
