Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, you what up, boxing fans. This is the Rope
- 0:05Speaker 1: of Dope Radio podcast. I am your host, Chris Carlson.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We are live on a Tuesday night. I hope everybody's
- 0:11Speaker 1: doing okay. Terrence Bud Crawford. I mean, golly, this guy, man, Wow,
- 0:26Speaker 1: what he's done throughout his career, but especially late in
- 0:30Speaker 1: his career from a standpoint of quality wins in his
- 0:41Speaker 1: rise and start them, you know, Beaten Spence and now
- 0:45Speaker 1: beaten Canelo. You almost wish that, hey, please fight for
- 0:50Speaker 1: a couple more years, you know. But also in the
- 0:53Speaker 1: flip side, does Crawford go out in the sunset? As
- 0:59Speaker 1: much as I want him to carry the torch, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: for the next couple of years of boxing. There's something
- 1:09Speaker 1: about watching a boxer going on top and that rarely
- 1:15Speaker 1: rarely happens. So shouts out to Terrence Crawford. He fought
- 1:24Speaker 1: the best defensive fight that I've seen him fight. And
- 1:28Speaker 1: we'll get into the details what's next. We kind of
- 1:31Speaker 1: hear that there might be a rematch. We kind of
- 1:33Speaker 1: hear that Crawford may still want to fight beyond maybe
- 1:38Speaker 1: even a rematch, but just in general, Canelo has two
- 1:41Speaker 1: fights on his deal left out of out of his
- 1:45Speaker 1: four fight deal. So it's gonna get interesting, but we'll
- 1:49Speaker 1: break it down. We will break it down. And of course,
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, once when someone gets such a big win
- 1:57Speaker 1: like this, and undisputed champion win like this at the
- 2:00Speaker 1: third way class, now you start to look at it historically,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and do I know some boxing history? Sure I do.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I've done a little bit of research here and there.
- 2:12Speaker 1: You know, I'm I would never call myself a historian though,
- 2:16Speaker 1: because I think it's kind of disrespectable for people that
- 2:19Speaker 1: have really put in the time an effort. Like I said,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I know a thing or two. I am older than
- 2:25Speaker 1: a lot of folks in the podcast game, so I
- 2:30Speaker 1: did get to see a lot of stuff in the eighties.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You know that they didn't live anyway, and you know
- 2:39Speaker 1: where does Crawford rank? We will talk to John who
- 2:43Speaker 1: I do call him a historian. There's been talk of
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know, Crawford's the best all the time. Hey, come on, now,
- 2:52Speaker 1: see that's what I don't like to do, Like Sugar
- 2:55Speaker 1: Ray Robinson's the best fighter, dude, Just stop right there.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But anyway, the big one that I knew was gonna
- 3:02Speaker 1: come up is Floyd just the win. What's the better
- 3:06Speaker 1: win over Canelo, right, is it? When he was younger,
- 3:11Speaker 1: not quite in his prime? Now, Canelo wasn't green. People
- 3:18Speaker 1: talk about, oh he was a prospect basically, you know
- 3:20Speaker 1: he was green. Well, I think he learned a thing
- 3:23Speaker 1: or two, that's for sure in that fight, but he
- 3:25Speaker 1: wasn't green. Right, Clearly he got better though. Anyone that
- 3:32Speaker 1: says at that young age that he Canela was in
- 3:35Speaker 1: his prime, that's not sure either. I think both you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: Mayweather and Crawford have aged very gracefully, gracefully, gracey gracefully,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I really do. They've had you know, not many boxers
- 3:50Speaker 1: can make it lo into the thirties and still be
- 3:53Speaker 1: at that elite level. And if there is a drop
- 3:56Speaker 1: off in one little category, they got it better another categories. Now,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you can you know, Canelo was not in his prime,
- 4:06Speaker 1: But I wouldn't say Canelo's in his prime right now
- 4:09Speaker 1: on the on the back side of it. So there's
- 4:11Speaker 1: a couple different ways to look at it. Clearly, the weight,
- 4:14Speaker 1: i'd say, is the biggest thing where the fight was
- 4:18Speaker 1: fought at. But we'll get into all this stuff. We'll
- 4:21Speaker 1: break down and Billy Martinez, you know, I was talking
- 4:23Speaker 1: to a casual friend of mine, casual boxing friend, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: I mean he's probably a little bit more than a
- 4:31Speaker 1: like he knows boxing. He just he's a he's a
- 4:36Speaker 1: casual spectator of it, but but he knows it really well.
- 4:39Speaker 1: He was talking about because I was telling him about
- 4:42Speaker 1: and Billy and and Martinez and that's the co feature,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and he was like, no, that's not the co feature.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I just I just looked at the list and I
- 4:48Speaker 1: was like, oh, wow, okay. The you know, this was
- 4:53Speaker 1: put on by Dana White. As far as being promoted,
- 4:56Speaker 1: we know Turkey paid for it, but the promoter was
- 5:00Speaker 1: Dana White. And you know, he always talks about he's
- 5:06Speaker 1: going to do the opposite of boxing and he's going
- 5:09Speaker 1: to you know, with with in the UFC. In some
- 5:12Speaker 1: ways he did other ways he did exactly the same.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Right the new deal, I do love how it's not
- 5:19Speaker 1: heavy on pay per view at all. There's no pay
- 5:21Speaker 1: per view within the deal. That's not to say that
- 5:24Speaker 1: there won't be another pay per view with the UFC ever,
- 5:27Speaker 1: he even said that. But overall I think that's great
- 5:30Speaker 1: that there it's gonna be on paramount CBS. That's phenomenal,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but this motherfucker dragged. The combination of the fight or
- 5:38Speaker 1: the fight car dragging on, and then the fact that
- 5:41Speaker 1: they'd have the cod feature be that fight that's a
- 5:49Speaker 1: boxing thing to do, where you're like, really, dude, we
- 5:52Speaker 1: have and Billy and Martinez a great matchup, we already
- 5:56Speaker 1: have that. Why wouldn't that be the Kofi Drokhel stop
- 5:59Speaker 1: you know Innuay one two. People were giving me shit
- 6:02Speaker 1: that I didn't talk about the Innuway fight. Well did
- 6:04Speaker 1: you see it in the ring one? I wanted to
- 6:07Speaker 1: save it for recap because I was hoping MJ would
- 6:10Speaker 1: give him a good fight. But also we didn't have
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know, we didn't even have a broadcast of it
- 6:18Speaker 1: when I did the when I did the show, So yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't go into detail in that. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: didn't break that fight down. But when you see it
- 6:28Speaker 1: in the ring, I don't know, it is what it is,
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know. But we'll get into that. We'll get into
- 6:33Speaker 1: that and some other fights as well. We'll preview the
- 6:37Speaker 1: weekend and yeah, after we break down the fights, like
- 6:40Speaker 1: what's next? Is there a rematch? You know? A boxing
- 6:44Speaker 1: thing to do, is there'd be a rematch, I'd assume
- 6:47Speaker 1: that'd be up to Canelo, right. Could he improve them
- 6:52Speaker 1: upon that performance? Maybe ever so slightly, but I don't
- 6:58Speaker 1: see it being different, like different enough to win the fight.
- 7:06Speaker 1: And thank god the judges' scorecards got it right now.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It wasn't a whitewashing. It wasn't twelve oh or ten
- 7:15Speaker 1: to two or you know, it wasn't anything like that.
- 7:18Speaker 1: It was it was competitive at times. But we'll talk
- 7:22Speaker 1: about it because you know, Turkey's out there saying, hey,
- 7:26Speaker 1: can Benevita still make one sixty eight, which obviously that
- 7:32Speaker 1: would mean butt in him? Right. Yeah, there's gonna be
- 7:38Speaker 1: more that we talk about, you know, of course little
- 7:41Speaker 1: boxing twitter stuff in fight news. Well we'll talk a
- 7:46Speaker 1: little bit about rip to Ricky Hatton as well, as
- 7:50Speaker 1: we all know there is only one Ricky Hatton. But yeah, man,
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was a great performance by Terrence Crawford, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: to do what he did, to jump two way classes
- 8:06Speaker 1: and make it look how he made it, the mixture
- 8:12Speaker 1: of standing his own ground. He actually when he had
- 8:15Speaker 1: his it was funny because before the bell rang, he
- 8:18Speaker 1: had his gloves up, he had his hands up ready
- 8:22Speaker 1: to guard, right even before even before the fight started,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and not to say he's never done that, but it
- 8:30Speaker 1: made me think, like, is he gonna come forward like
- 8:32Speaker 1: right after bad he's got his gloves all high, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: sure enough, he actually did right away. But the mixture
- 8:37Speaker 1: of movement, whether it's getting you know, not getting trapped
- 8:44Speaker 1: in corners or just the subtle movement, the pivoting, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: the circling, but staying within range to land punches. And
- 8:54Speaker 1: there were a couple of rounds that Canela won cleanly.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I did like what he did to the body, no
- 8:59Speaker 1: doubt about it. I think that was some of his
- 9:00Speaker 1: best punches. But you know, a lot within the realms
- 9:08Speaker 1: when a lot of times as this fight got deeper,
- 9:12Speaker 1: you know, I really liked how Crawford answered back pretty
- 9:17Speaker 1: much every time Canelo got a good shot. But we'll
- 9:22Speaker 1: dive into it deeper. And like I said, I didn't
- 9:25Speaker 1: see a whitewash, you know, eleven to one or nothing
- 9:29Speaker 1: like that. I did see some people scoring it. Some
- 9:31Speaker 1: people were scoring it like pretty over the top for Canelo.
- 9:36Speaker 1: That was to be expected. But also I saw some
- 9:39Speaker 1: people saying, you know, ten to two Crawford, and I didn't.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I didn't think that was the case either. But if

- 11:27Speaker 1: sixty channels. Alright, alright, let's let's get into some of
- 11:30Speaker 1: this recap. We do have some numbers, now, some numbers
- 11:37Speaker 1: are out there, some some big, big numbers, you know
- 11:43Speaker 1: on Netflix. But you know, I do want to talk
- 11:49Speaker 1: really quick about the undercard, real quick. The Martinez and Billy.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You know, I thought Martinez started the first round with
- 12:07Speaker 1: the better, better lands, so I gave him round one.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Round two. I liked him Billy's little short uppercut, his
- 12:15Speaker 1: right hook, some of his bodywork combination, but so I
- 12:19Speaker 1: gave it to I gave it to and Billy the
- 12:22Speaker 1: second one. But I liked the bodywork as well from Martinez,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and he was countering fairly well too. And there were
- 12:29Speaker 1: a couple really competitive, fun spirited rounds. A great round
- 12:34Speaker 1: was round three. I thought the cleaner shots was Martinez.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Same with round four, another competitive round. Don't get me wrong,
- 12:43Speaker 1: but I did favor Martinez, so I had him up
- 12:46Speaker 1: a little bit, but I gave him Billy a nice
- 12:49Speaker 1: little run here from the fifth, sixth, and seventh. Now,
- 12:53Speaker 1: the fifth was very close, and I thought Martinez, I
- 12:56Speaker 1: even wrote it in my little scorecard notes where he
- 13:00Speaker 1: probably needed to start pivoting a little bit more and
- 13:03Speaker 1: using his his you know, counter punch ability and not
- 13:07Speaker 1: just stand there and bang. But I thought it was
- 13:10Speaker 1: three in a row. Although the fifth was very close,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and just those short shots to the body, the hooks,
- 13:18Speaker 1: all that I think they did did really good. The
- 13:21Speaker 1: eighth once again a very competitive round, but I thought
- 13:24Speaker 1: that I just thought it was it was better shots landed.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Same with the ninth for Martinez. So I gave Martinez
- 13:31Speaker 1: the eighth the ninth, gave him Billity the tenth, and
- 13:38Speaker 1: you know that that's right around of five five six
- 13:41Speaker 1: four five five gun to my head, who did I
- 13:45Speaker 1: think landed the better shots overall? I would probably have
- 13:49Speaker 1: to say, uh, less than Martinez.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Now I did pick.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Him as an upset, so maybe I have some bias
- 13:58Speaker 1: in there. The scorecard dread ninety seven to ninety three
- 14:02Speaker 1: for Martinez, ninety six ninety four for in billion of course,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we know the draw, so I wouldn't mind a rematch
- 14:11Speaker 1: of this one. To be honest with you, I'd be
- 14:14Speaker 1: just fine with that. Yeah, I thought it was close though.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I thought it was very very close, good fight. I
- 14:23Speaker 1: thought that if Martinez like in the rematch, I would
- 14:25Speaker 1: favor I know, I already you know, had picked Martinez
- 14:30Speaker 1: to win. But in the rematch, I would definitely favor
- 14:35Speaker 1: Martinez because I think he could he he'd probably do
- 14:38Speaker 1: the most to improve that fight in my opinion. Okay,
- 14:44Speaker 1: that's just my opinion. Who knows, maybe one, but I
- 14:48Speaker 1: just think that he could pivot counter a little bit better,
- 14:51Speaker 1: not worry about banging so much in there with them, Billy.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But it was a good ass fight, and like I said,
- 14:57Speaker 1: should have been the co feature and we'll talk about it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It dragged on and it's on Netflix. We're not waiting
- 15:06Speaker 1: for a college football game. It's not the NBA playoffs.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Remember when Manny Pacyall was a big Celtics fan back
- 15:14Speaker 1: in the day, and he's like, we're not going until
- 15:16Speaker 1: that game's over. Who was that was that against Moseley?
- 15:20Speaker 1: Who was that? I want to say Mosley, maybe Marquez,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, there's really no excuse for it.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But yeah, to put, I just thought it was real
- 15:33Speaker 1: goofy to put. You know, the prospect fight as the
- 15:39Speaker 1: co feature, real like boxing promoter stuff that we see
- 15:43Speaker 1: when you have a legit who's going to be the
- 15:46Speaker 1: higher rank contender at the end of the fight type thing.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So yeah, that's that's where we're at there, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: kind of breaking down this fight. It was a low start.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I barely gave Canelo the first round. I liked what
- 16:05Speaker 1: Bud did early in the round, nice left hand and jab,
- 16:09Speaker 1: but I thought that two or three really good body shots.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I thought they were the hardest shots of the round.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So I did give it to him, but Bud I
- 16:19Speaker 1: gave the second, the third. In the fourth, the jab
- 16:24Speaker 1: a few jabs landing pretty well where Canelo was going
- 16:27Speaker 1: to the body, but not as much. A couple of
- 16:29Speaker 1: decent lands in the third round to go along with
- 16:32Speaker 1: the jab was enough for me. I thought the fourth
- 16:35Speaker 1: was very competitive, but early, really early in late combinations,
- 16:41Speaker 1: quick little combinations by Bud did it for me. Whereas
- 16:44Speaker 1: there was a right hand to the head and a
- 16:47Speaker 1: jab in a decent jab by Kanelo in that round.
- 16:50Speaker 1: But I did. I didn't think it was enough to
- 16:51Speaker 1: give him the round. The fifth round. Kind of early
- 16:55Speaker 1: in that round, maybe closer to mid I thought Bud
- 16:58Speaker 1: was winning it, but I thought that Canelo closed a
- 17:02Speaker 1: round better overall, So I did think that Canelo won
- 17:06Speaker 1: the fifth round. Then I gave the sixth and the
- 17:09Speaker 1: seventh to Bud. Once again really not In the sixth round,
- 17:14Speaker 1: he landed a really good you get I can't talk
- 17:18Speaker 1: today in that round early on big left hand to
- 17:23Speaker 1: go along with that jab and just controlling the distance.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And then in the seventh round and throughout the defense,
- 17:31Speaker 1: whether it was his head movement or footwork just slightly
- 17:35Speaker 1: you know, not doing much when you know Canelo didn't
- 17:39Speaker 1: take advantage of Bud on the ropes. But to be fair,
- 17:42Speaker 1: it's not like Bud was on the ropes a lot,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but these quick little lands along with not getting the
- 17:48Speaker 1: hit a whole lot, I thought he had. The seventh.
- 17:50Speaker 1: The eighth to me was a toss up, very slow round,
- 17:54Speaker 1: though I will say that you know, maybe maybe you
- 18:01Speaker 1: go Canelo there, but that's a maybe. The ninth Bud
- 18:06Speaker 1: combos early there was like a I think that's the
- 18:11Speaker 1: one where there was a head clash. Some people thought
- 18:13Speaker 1: that was really dirty and cheap. I didn't. I didn't
- 18:15Speaker 1: see it so much there, But to me it was
- 18:19Speaker 1: like early combinations. Yeah, Canelo landed a nice overhand right,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but then kind of stick and move and just getting
- 18:26Speaker 1: the better of them. I kind of liked what I
- 18:28Speaker 1: saw there from Bud in the ninth. The tenth round
- 18:31Speaker 1: I gave to Canelo straight and looping rights finally were landing,
- 18:36Speaker 1: whereas I don't know if the quick combinations and Max,
- 18:45Speaker 1: oh Max, anyway, Max did say, you know, I'd be
- 18:49Speaker 1: worried if if I were in the corner because Bud's
- 18:54Speaker 1: doing these quick little combinations and then setting up one
- 18:58Speaker 1: big punch in that combo. And and I thought he
- 19:02Speaker 1: did that for a couple of rounds like that, but
- 19:04Speaker 1: I don't know if it was enough there. The tenth round,
- 19:09Speaker 1: the counter left hook, straight left hands, I definitely gave
- 19:13Speaker 1: that one to Bud, And so either way, I did
- 19:20Speaker 1: have Bud well. The twelfth Actually, that was a that
- 19:25Speaker 1: was a tough one. I thought that was pretty close
- 19:28Speaker 1: to that twelfth round. That was a very competitive round.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You know, it felt like Crawford landed more punches, but
- 19:37Speaker 1: where they were they like, you know, like were they
- 19:43Speaker 1: the harder ones? You could maybe get the twelfth to Canlo.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I don't know, but that that was pretty close. But
- 19:48Speaker 1: overall I did have h Terrence, Bud Crawford win in
- 19:52Speaker 1: the fight, whether it was you know, seven to five,
- 19:55Speaker 1: eight to four, I didn't have a draw. One judge
- 19:59Speaker 1: had at one sixteen, one twelve, the other two had
- 20:01Speaker 1: at one fifteen, one thirteen. I just I liked overall
- 20:08Speaker 1: what Bud did. The game plan. You know, they put
- 20:12Speaker 1: up a stat at the beginning of the of the
- 20:15Speaker 1: fight or not not like as they're walking in that
- 20:19Speaker 1: Canelo seven and zero in stadium fights and it's like, okay,
- 20:26Speaker 1: but I mean Bud's fought in front of jam packed
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know, fourteen thousand or whatever crowds, So to me,
- 20:35Speaker 1: that's just a weird stat. And then go look at
- 20:38Speaker 1: who those stadium fights were against. You can't just flash
- 20:42Speaker 1: up a seven and oh stat and not give the context.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I mean, none of them were as good as is
- 20:48Speaker 1: you know, is Bud. But I just thought Bud, like
- 20:52Speaker 1: I mentioned, he fought his best defensive fight. Oh I
- 20:55Speaker 1: see John coming in, I'm gonna let him in here.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I thought he fought his best dee a fight, He
- 21:00Speaker 1: fought a smart fight. He didn't just pity Pat. You know,
- 21:04Speaker 1: there was some shoe shining in there, but a lot
- 21:07Speaker 1: of times one of those would really count. And like
- 21:11Speaker 1: I mentioned, I did think that I'm gonna go ahead
- 21:16Speaker 1: and let you in here, John, I did think that
- 21:19Speaker 1: he did a good job of answering back within the
- 21:24Speaker 1: round or after around that Canelo was able to land.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Hey what's going on, John? How you doing?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Chris? How's it going.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It's going pretty good, Man, going pretty good. First and
- 21:34Speaker 1: foremost the backyard brawl. Okay, huh, Well did you think
- 21:41Speaker 1: I know that West Virginia had lost a tough one
- 21:45Speaker 1: the week before. They had a lot of injuries in
- 21:47Speaker 1: that game, and so I was like, Man, I don't know.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I kind of stayed away from the spread and all that.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But that's what college football is all about. His rivalries.
- 21:57Speaker 1: You put on a pretty poor display the week before,
- 22:00Speaker 1: you turn around and all of a sudden, this this
- 22:03Speaker 1: game means something and you go ahead and beat your rival.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I think that, And I think down the stretch
- 22:11Speaker 2: and at the point that the points in the game
- 22:14Speaker 2: when it mattered most, I think coach, Rodriguez got his
- 22:20Speaker 2: personnel straightened out. I'm thinking that quarterback and at running back, yes.
- 22:27Speaker 1: That means really good plays that quarterback.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Really Mark All who who I have I have liked.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I've been consistent on that. I mean I like him
- 22:35Speaker 2: and there's a lot of the fans that do too.
- 22:37Speaker 2: He runs pretty well, pretty pretty good passer, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 2: runs better than some people think. And you know the
- 22:45Speaker 2: guys behind him can't throw can't throw it all rich
- 22:48Speaker 2: rod went into the season. You know, Markiel's one of
- 22:52Speaker 2: the couple of holdovers, and you know he stayed by
- 22:54Speaker 2: choice and Rodriguez did welcome aboard, but kept with this
- 22:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm play five quarterbacks and all this stuff.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And you of course, you know Marciole you know, played
- 23:07Speaker 2: most of the game at Ohio and they lost, but
- 23:10Speaker 2: I didn't think it was really his fault, but they
- 23:12Speaker 2: lost White, you know, their top running back, as you
- 23:14Speaker 2: mentioned out for the season, who he's legitimately very highly regarded.
- 23:18Speaker 2: But the key and personnel on this one. Then you know, Rodriguez,
- 23:22Speaker 2: he'd had a walk on up the depth chart who
- 23:26Speaker 2: was out there, and then this guy that they had
- 23:28Speaker 2: coming in from Northern Iowa, who I had liked, and
- 23:30Speaker 2: of course, you know, Rodriguez got the guy that was good.
- 23:33Speaker 2: But there were some eligibility issues. But there was a
- 23:36Speaker 2: federal ruling in the Northern District of West Virginia which
- 23:40Speaker 2: I practiced in front of one of the courts where
- 23:45Speaker 2: he was determined to be eligible. But I think there
- 23:48Speaker 2: was maybe still a little hesitation. But the point is
- 23:51Speaker 2: he didn't he didn't start this game against Pitt and
- 23:56Speaker 2: he came in there and gave him a big spark
- 23:57Speaker 2: running the ball. But then Rodriguez had hooked Marky All
- 24:01Speaker 2: and they got one drive with a freshman quarterback who
- 24:05Speaker 2: then proceeded to throw horrible interceptions on two preceding possessions,
- 24:10Speaker 2: and it looked like it looked that the game was over,
- 24:13Speaker 2: and he put Marky All back in. You still had
- 24:16Speaker 2: you know, Edwards running the ball, and the guy was
- 24:18Speaker 2: a revelation and you know that. And the defense has
- 24:22Speaker 2: been pretty solid this year so far, so I think
- 24:25Speaker 2: that combination worked. And even being in WVU, you know
- 24:33Speaker 2: alumni in terms of my law degree and my son's
- 24:37Speaker 2: undergrad degree, I was surprised checking a little bit before
- 24:40Speaker 2: he went on because I hadn't checked it, just been
- 24:42Speaker 2: doing other things. And they're thirteen and a half point
- 24:45Speaker 2: underdog at Kansas. We talk about betting angles and we'll
- 24:50Speaker 2: get into it. Not that I wasn't wrong with what's
- 24:52Speaker 2: about Cadello Crawford. None of us are right all the
- 24:55Speaker 2: time for sure, But I'm thinking WVU getting thirteen and
- 24:59Speaker 2: a half, I mean.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And Kansas doesn't have a good defense at all. Yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I got a good offense. But yeah, it's funny because
- 25:06Speaker 1: I did the College Ball Show yesterday and I always
- 25:09Speaker 1: do it against the spread pick like I have like
- 25:12Speaker 1: five or six of them, or maybe four a week,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and that was definitely one of them. Looking at that like, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're gonna win or nothing, but it
- 25:20Speaker 1: doesn't mean they can't keep scoring with that team.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not gonna say certainly they win, but their
- 25:24Speaker 2: defense is played well. Yeah, defense looks much improved. And
- 25:30Speaker 2: I have a feeling going into this game that, at
- 25:34Speaker 2: least in terms of my own biases with the team,
- 25:36Speaker 2: Like I think Rodriguez, like I think now after and
- 25:41Speaker 2: I think he was up and down with it, but
- 25:43Speaker 2: I think now after three games, I think he's got
- 25:45Speaker 2: the personnel I think he's got the personnel figured out
- 25:47Speaker 2: out into this one doing what he wants because got
- 25:51Speaker 2: you know, two receivers that complement each other pretty well too.
- 25:55Speaker 2: One guy that came over with Rodriguez from Jacksonville State,
- 25:59Speaker 2: who he to me already. He shows some pro potential.
- 26:03Speaker 2: You know, he's the taller guy. He's six too. And
- 26:06Speaker 2: then they they've had Rodney Gallagher, one of the other
- 26:09Speaker 2: only holdovers from the Brown regime, who was really highly recruited.
- 26:12Speaker 2: They just got him because he's from Uniontown, Pennsylvania, which
- 26:15Speaker 2: is right across the border from Morgantown, so he's a local.
- 26:19Speaker 2: But that's kind of why they got him. You know,
- 26:21Speaker 2: he's a smaller, you know, fast guy who's got moves.
- 26:25Speaker 2: He even played a little defense last year too. But
- 26:29Speaker 2: like you know, they're kind of waiting for him to
- 26:31Speaker 2: come in his own You've been seeing some of the flashes,
- 26:34Speaker 2: you know. The offensive line I think's got some problems.
- 26:38Speaker 2: That's probably not going to change much during the year.
- 26:40Speaker 2: But I think the personnel with the defenses looked pretty
- 26:43Speaker 2: good the whole way, and I think now the offensive personnel,
- 26:47Speaker 2: I think he'll have this more figured out. What he
- 26:50Speaker 2: wants to do.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It was a great interview after the game too. You
- 26:53Speaker 1: know he's in there kind of teary eyed singing. You know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: it was just that's a cause the ball is all
- 27:00Speaker 1: about man.
- 27:01Speaker 2: That was great and Rodriguez has proven which I'm saying
- 27:04Speaker 2: this is the national media says it, So I'm not
- 27:08Speaker 2: coming with it, coming with it at a perception of bias.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I mean, you know, the guy's become an entertaining character.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, so you know you have that
- 27:20Speaker 2: factor and you yeah, and that makes people want to
- 27:22Speaker 2: see it more so. But yeah, I mean, you know,
- 27:26Speaker 2: it was looking it was looking bad, you know when
- 27:28Speaker 2: they fell down in the second half and marky ol
- 27:32Speaker 2: you know, he put him at least hey, Rodriguez wasn't
- 27:35Speaker 2: was an overly pride for or stubborn. He put him
- 27:37Speaker 2: back like I got a Winness, I got to try
- 27:39Speaker 2: to Winness Cave and uh and you know the kid
- 27:43Speaker 2: came through so and he was highly highly recruited.
- 27:48Speaker 1: He was.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so like you know Gallagher, the two holdovers are
- 27:52Speaker 2: really the two guys they have from the Brown era
- 27:54Speaker 2: that were highly recruited. You know. Then Brown found a
- 27:59Speaker 2: gym and see a Donaldson, who they developed was a
- 28:02Speaker 2: guy who was a receiver in high school and then
- 28:04Speaker 2: became a really good running back. But he's at Ohio State.
- 28:07Speaker 2: You know, he plays for Ohio State now, so he
- 28:09Speaker 2: you know, and all the other guys were gone, but
- 28:12Speaker 2: you know, two guys that were highly recruited that they
- 28:15Speaker 2: did have stayed around, so Markiel and Gallagher and they're
- 28:20Speaker 2: playing key roles now. And the Edwards guy of all
- 28:23Speaker 2: the running backs that Rodriguez was bringing in, there's something
- 28:27Speaker 2: that intrigued me about him. He was at Northern Iowa,
- 28:29Speaker 2: but just when you see the tape and he was
- 28:32Speaker 2: going to be ineligible and then he was eligible, and
- 28:36Speaker 2: I think maybe I'm just assuming there was some hesitation.
- 28:39Speaker 2: But when they got over that and they they went
- 28:42Speaker 2: with them, knowing they got to get something going with
- 28:44Speaker 2: whiteout for the year. He paid huge dividends. The guy
- 28:47Speaker 2: looks real good.
- 28:49Speaker 1: So I know there's going to be a break. But
- 28:53Speaker 1: they did re up a long term deal for the rivalry.
- 28:57Speaker 1: But I think, is it a couple of year breaks?
- 29:01Speaker 2: It's a couple of years because I'm getting older and
- 29:04Speaker 2: I hope to be around a long time. But you
- 29:05Speaker 2: can't have a College Fan Series. I'm looking, I'm like, well,
- 29:09Speaker 2: you know, how many worthies maybe get right? I think
- 29:14Speaker 2: it's like a three year break, yeah, and then then
- 29:20Speaker 2: I don't know, they signed a good long extension though,
- 29:22Speaker 2: so yeah, I think it might be like a three
- 29:26Speaker 2: year break something like that. But I'm glad that they
- 29:28Speaker 2: worked it out because you know, you saw it in
- 29:32Speaker 2: Morgantown on Saturday and new There's of course other colleges
- 29:35Speaker 2: the same way. But like it's it's just amazing, even
- 29:40Speaker 2: though they've been in the Big Twelve, you know, since
- 29:43Speaker 2: you know, the twenty eleven season, like you get a
- 29:46Speaker 2: regional rival of course his pit, but even other games
- 29:50Speaker 2: like like even even though it worked out terribly, I mean,
- 29:52Speaker 2: Ohio use a short trip so like you know, there
- 29:56Speaker 2: was tons of WVU fans there and and you know
- 30:00Speaker 2: that's a beautiful campus and stuff. Just just things like that,
- 30:03Speaker 2: like you know, in the Big Twelve, like you know,
- 30:07Speaker 2: especially now, I mean, you know, you don't have Oklahoma
- 30:10Speaker 2: and Texas in there as just the marquee, even though
- 30:12Speaker 2: they weren't any natural rivals or anything, which that was
- 30:15Speaker 2: an attraction. You don't have that, so you know these
- 30:19Speaker 2: region regional like they played Penn State last year. It
- 30:23Speaker 2: was a two year series. You know, that was awesome.
- 30:26Speaker 2: But that's gone, that's not even that's not re signed.
- 30:28Speaker 2: But that's an old regional. You know, Penn State dominated
- 30:31Speaker 2: the series, but it's still one of those old regional
- 30:35Speaker 2: right type of things. Like heck, Penn State doesn't even
- 30:38Speaker 2: play pit anymore. I mean, that was one of the
- 30:39Speaker 2: biggest rivalries out there. So it's that's sad, But I
- 30:43Speaker 2: think fans like those games back when they can be
- 30:45Speaker 2: brought back.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's important more than ever now. So you know,
- 30:51Speaker 1: a lot of these kind of big towns, not necessarily
- 30:55Speaker 1: big metropolitans, but big towns. They this is huge to
- 30:59Speaker 1: them too. It really thrives, it helps the economy, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: it's just it's good for everything around it, you know.
- 31:05Speaker 2: So well, you're right, And even if you like Rendon
- 31:08Speaker 2: Baker the WVU A D Chris, Yeah, obviously, you know,
- 31:11Speaker 2: you file the college stuff a lot, and you're right,
- 31:13Speaker 2: that's kind of the way he talks. Like, I have
- 31:16Speaker 2: some things I like about this thinking of plans, some
- 31:19Speaker 2: I don't as much, but you know, his figuring on
- 31:22Speaker 2: survival for you know, a place like West Virginia University
- 31:26Speaker 2: in this new world is you know, we're going to
- 31:30Speaker 2: take the whole one point six million you know, people
- 31:33Speaker 2: you have in the state US alumni and just like
- 31:38Speaker 2: you described it, like even though Morgan Town itself is
- 31:40Speaker 2: only seventy miles from Pittsburgh, you're going to take it
- 31:44Speaker 2: like yeah, that's actually the only as the only game
- 31:47Speaker 2: in town thing. But see, that's that's what I think
- 31:49Speaker 2: people miss is like, you know, Morgantown and for me
- 31:54Speaker 2: is no big deal being from New Jersey, but then
- 31:56Speaker 2: having also lived in the you know, the south central
- 31:59Speaker 2: part of what Virginia a lot. Yeah, you know, I
- 32:01Speaker 2: see these different angles and like, you know the way
- 32:05Speaker 2: that the way like south central West Virginia, southern West
- 32:08Speaker 2: Virginia is looking at WVU. I mean, but they're up
- 32:11Speaker 2: in Morgantown. I mean, they're only seventy miles from Pittsburgh.
- 32:14Speaker 1: It's hard to always get messed up with that. Everything's
- 32:17Speaker 1: so damned close over there. It's like it's only it
- 32:20Speaker 1: doesn't seem right, you know, but it is right.
- 32:22Speaker 2: And that's where I think, Like, you know, Baker, you know,
- 32:24Speaker 2: he's now he's been here and it's his job as
- 32:26Speaker 2: a d but I've been around here a long time,
- 32:28Speaker 2: Like you know, I have my thoughts on that that
- 32:29Speaker 2: are a little different. Like you know, I think WVU,
- 32:34Speaker 2: because of what we're talking about, it's got to be
- 32:36Speaker 2: more of a regional appeal, like when they get too
- 32:39Speaker 2: far with the State of West Virginia thing, I know
- 32:42Speaker 2: what they're trying to do. Sure, I don't think that
- 32:46Speaker 2: necessarily is enough to do it.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Like, well, yeah, if you look at the state itself,
- 32:51Speaker 1: you know, I mean, it needs some help, obviously, That's
- 32:54Speaker 1: what I think.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Like I think you gotta go with your alumni base
- 32:59Speaker 2: and yeah, where you have alumni base and more of
- 33:01Speaker 2: these population areas and things, and it's got to be
- 33:05Speaker 2: more of a regional appeal, I know, in the recruiting
- 33:08Speaker 2: angle of it. Of course now it's a different era.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But yeah, great coach, and I agree with him, like
- 33:13Speaker 2: you know, don Neel, and that was always kind of
- 33:16Speaker 2: his view, like from a recruiting perspective, Like you know,
- 33:20Speaker 2: it's it's got to be a regional thing where you're
- 33:23Speaker 2: hitting up these certain population centers that are within reach,
- 33:27Speaker 2: you know, where the families can drive to the games
- 33:29Speaker 2: and things like that. But I think even in the
- 33:32Speaker 2: NIL era, some of that applies because everybody's not an
- 33:35Speaker 2: NIL superstar. Of course, some players are, and now you
- 33:39Speaker 2: see them all over, but you know, people that are
- 33:42Speaker 2: good but at levels below that, you know, they're still
- 33:46Speaker 2: looking at more of those regional aspects and things like that.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, let's get into the fight here.
- 33:56Speaker 1: We'll talk about you know, the time went on and
- 34:00Speaker 1: all that, and you know, because Dana kept saying, you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: oh god, these guys, they stretch out these cards, and yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 1: he's making a good point, but here he is stretching
- 34:10Speaker 1: out a damn cartact.
- 34:11Speaker 2: And when we talk about that, I think we can
- 34:13Speaker 2: pick up right there, because that's kind of my theme.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Where I have some disappointment in the event was despite
- 34:20Speaker 2: the framing and the people involved, it was it was like,
- 34:25Speaker 2: outside of the fact it was on Netflix, all the
- 34:29Speaker 2: repeated mistakes that Box has been making exactly no adjustment
- 34:34Speaker 2: by Dana White or Turkey Ala chic. And we can
- 34:37Speaker 2: get into that later, because I got a lot of
- 34:39Speaker 2: thoughts on that as well as on the fight. I
- 34:40Speaker 2: even you know, the fight, of course, had a very
- 34:43Speaker 2: intriguing result and caused me to look back at a
- 34:46Speaker 2: couple of things in hindsight.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, yeah, because even we'll talk about you know,
- 34:53Speaker 1: what I thought was going to be the co feature.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And then I had a casual friend that I talked
- 34:58Speaker 1: to him and as he's like, A just looked at
- 35:00Speaker 1: the list of the running order, and he told me
- 35:03Speaker 1: the co feature. I was like, that's the CoFe Oh.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I thought I could have sworn. I was like, just
- 35:09Speaker 1: just watching Billy and Martinez, Okay, don't worry about that
- 35:11Speaker 1: other fight. Per se this watch, you know, and so
- 35:15Speaker 1: that's another but oh, it just so happened. Someone has
- 35:18Speaker 1: a stake and a promotion, so then we're gonna put
- 35:21Speaker 1: him at the coffeature. It's a it's boxing one on one.
- 35:24Speaker 2: You know, just just all all the all the repeated mistakes. Yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 2: actually worse.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, some of them even.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Worse some of them. It was either all the again,
- 35:37Speaker 2: outside of the fact that the card was on Netflix,
- 35:41Speaker 2: which that's good, We're just gonna take that as we
- 35:44Speaker 2: accept that was a different change. That was good with
- 35:46Speaker 2: that understood. Everything else was the mistakes boxing's making or
- 35:51Speaker 2: worse mistakes or worse, Yeah, exactly, And I was ready
- 35:55Speaker 2: to be positive the other way, But it just wasn't there.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Like I always say, you just gotta then call it
- 36:01Speaker 2: like you see it, and as presentation of the event
- 36:06Speaker 2: outside of being on Netflix just ended up being just
- 36:10Speaker 2: awful in so many ways in my opinion.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yeah, we get the multiple concerts and stuff like that.
- 36:17Speaker 1: We'll get into that. We'll get it. Let's start in
- 36:18Speaker 1: the ring now. I thought Bud fought uh probably his
- 36:24Speaker 1: most disciplined fight. I you know, the defense that he
- 36:30Speaker 1: showed in that fight, I really liked it. I thought.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I thought he did hang around by Canelo and in
- 36:36Speaker 1: the pocket enough and answered back enough, but also wasn't
- 36:41Speaker 1: gonna get trapped in the corners either and sit there
- 36:43Speaker 1: and let them whale on them. I did like a
- 36:48Speaker 1: fair amount of the body work that Canelo did. I
- 36:50Speaker 1: thought that was his bet. That right hand of the
- 36:52Speaker 1: body is probably his best shots of the night. You know,
- 36:55Speaker 1: speaking of defense, some of those right hands and overhand
- 36:58Speaker 1: rights that usually a home, they did find a home
- 37:02Speaker 1: to an extent, but a fair amount of them were
- 37:06Speaker 1: also partially blocked by Crawford too, so they weren't always clean.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And then he kind of had him frustrated. Late. You
- 37:13Speaker 1: could see Canelo very frustrated, almost like saying, oh, stand
- 37:18Speaker 1: right in front of me. You know, It's like, well,
- 37:20Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I've been standing in front of you.
- 37:22Speaker 1: But anyway, i'd like to hear your take. I just
- 37:26Speaker 1: went round by round for you before you popped down.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I'll add a little bit to it, but I'd like
- 37:32Speaker 1: to get your take first and foremost.
- 37:34Speaker 2: So well, maybe i'll start out since you just got
- 37:36Speaker 2: done with the round by round. I'll actually pick up
- 37:39Speaker 2: maybe with that first and then get into some of
- 37:41Speaker 2: the analysis. Because you know how people always it's boxing,
- 37:46Speaker 2: you know, it's it's it's it's subjective. A lot you
- 37:50Speaker 2: try to make it Objective's subjective. I I didn't, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 2: I had Crawford winning the fight. I didn't. I did
- 37:57Speaker 2: not think that the one point fifteen one team was outrageous.
- 38:01Speaker 2: I thought when for me, some close rounds going to
- 38:06Speaker 2: each guy had it going into the last two rounds
- 38:09Speaker 2: where it could have been you know, I thought it
- 38:12Speaker 2: was even people were saying that was crazy. But then
- 38:15Speaker 2: I thought Crawford took the last two rounds. But in
- 38:19Speaker 2: that even there was close rounds I was given to,
- 38:22Speaker 2: you know, Canelo that could have gone to Crawford, and
- 38:25Speaker 2: there was you know, I was giving Crawford some close rounds,
- 38:28Speaker 2: so I saw it kind of that way. But you know,
- 38:30Speaker 2: I thought Crawford fought really well. Now, just so you
- 38:33Speaker 2: know a way I'm looking at that one. I don't
- 38:35Speaker 2: think like I'm not disputing anybody who then gave close
- 38:39Speaker 2: rounds to Crawford. Like I always say, you know, you
- 38:41Speaker 2: don't have to give all the close rounds. You don't
- 38:44Speaker 2: have to have all the close rounds split you. Really,
- 38:46Speaker 2: that's the problem with boxing too, if you're being really
- 38:49Speaker 2: realistic about it. I mean, the close rounds could all
- 38:52Speaker 2: go to one guy.
- 38:53Speaker 1: So you know, a question mark, I'll say who I
- 38:56Speaker 1: thought won the round, but I'll put a question mark
- 38:59Speaker 1: next to it. And if I got two or four
- 39:02Speaker 1: question marks, like we always say, we'll swing it back
- 39:05Speaker 1: and forth just to make it even.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I think that's what you got to do unless you're
- 39:08Speaker 2: just have an even round. So that too, that too, right,
- 39:13Speaker 2: So which which probably there aren't enough of anymore, really,
- 39:16Speaker 2: And I've gotten in the habit of doing it too
- 39:17Speaker 2: because they've been frowned upon. But they probably shouldn't be
- 39:20Speaker 2: frowned upon.
- 39:21Speaker 1: You know, we say a lot of good stuff from
- 39:23Speaker 1: the past. Well, that's a pretty decent thing from the past.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Now I think k kind of goes over the top
- 39:29Speaker 1: with it, don't get wrong, and some people say I
- 39:31Speaker 1: do too, and that's fair, But I don't think it
- 39:33Speaker 1: should be looked down upon like it is.
- 39:36Speaker 2: No, because one of the things you could do would
- 39:38Speaker 2: be like these rounds we're talking close with a question mark,
- 39:41Speaker 2: which if anybody's being honest, they're going to admit they have.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Those could just be even rounds. And then when somebody
- 39:47Speaker 2: clearly wins the round, yeah that's just a ten nine,
- 39:51Speaker 2: you know, and then then you get into knockdowns or
- 39:53Speaker 2: somebody being heard or multiple knockdowns, things like that. But
- 39:56Speaker 2: so on the scoring, I just wanted to weigh in there, like,
- 40:00Speaker 2: you know, I don't think that I'm not in the
- 40:03Speaker 2: camp where it was. I did think Crawford won the fight, you.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Know, I wasn't.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Right. I think those are stretching the other way. People
- 40:12Speaker 2: were saying things like that, and that to me, you're
- 40:16Speaker 2: giving Crawford every close round and then you're probably going
- 40:18Speaker 2: beyond that. You're probably even giving Crawford some rounds that
- 40:22Speaker 2: Canelo won. You know that That's why I thought that.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And there were a lot of close rounds.
- 40:26Speaker 2: No exactly, I mean it wasn't you know, it was
- 40:29Speaker 2: a very interesting fight, especially for boxing fans, but it
- 40:33Speaker 2: wasn't you know, a great action fight or a particularly
- 40:37Speaker 2: dramatic fight outside of Crawford being the underdog. So you know,
- 40:41Speaker 2: in terms of the rounds, that's the way I ended
- 40:43Speaker 2: up seeing it. You know, I thought Crawford fought really well.
- 40:46Speaker 2: But one thing I can I can say to me
- 40:49Speaker 2: is kind of funny, you know, having picked Canelo going in,
- 40:54Speaker 2: and it caused me then after the fight to go
- 40:56Speaker 2: back look at some things. Yeah, after after about three
- 41:02Speaker 2: rounds of the fight, I was like, it certainly doesn't
- 41:06Speaker 2: look like Crawford's moved up to fight Michael Spinks does. Yeah. Yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 2: I mean I had I had up my own reality check, like,
- 41:14Speaker 2: you know, this is not a case. And you know,
- 41:17Speaker 2: Crawford's great fighter, fighting great. You know, Cardell is still
- 41:20Speaker 2: gonna go down as a great fighter. But you know,
- 41:23Speaker 2: like that that was I was thinking. I then started
- 41:26Speaker 2: to see because I was also thinking like another thing,
- 41:30Speaker 2: and I was thinking pre fight, I was thinking like, well,
- 41:33Speaker 2: you know, Cadell hasn't gotten to fight shorter guys for
- 41:36Speaker 2: a long time. I mean, maybe he gets back in
- 41:38Speaker 2: with the shorter guy and those punches at that angle
- 41:42Speaker 2: he can throw, he just blows them away. But then
- 41:45Speaker 2: you know, I was conveniently ignoring like, well, you know,
- 41:48Speaker 2: Mayweather's Mayweather's not particularly tall. No, he's older fighting a
- 41:54Speaker 2: young Canello. But let's say, let's face it. You know,
- 41:57Speaker 2: we went with that angle of like, well, it was
- 41:59Speaker 2: his experience level, but it really could have just been
- 42:03Speaker 2: an older Mayweather was still able to handle a young Canelo,
- 42:08Speaker 2: who at that point, you know, should should should be
- 42:10Speaker 2: quicker and you know, have more strength and stamina and
- 42:14Speaker 2: didn't really have any problem handle him. So I was
- 42:15Speaker 2: kind of overlooking that, and like, you know, Cadelo was
- 42:21Speaker 2: landing some clean shots, and I got to say, I mean,
- 42:24Speaker 2: credit to Crawford. I mean, he's never been down either. Yeah,
- 42:29Speaker 2: Canela wasn't having any effect on him. He was landing
- 42:32Speaker 2: some clean ones. And I did like something that Crawford
- 42:35Speaker 2: said after the fight, because I've seen other fighters do
- 42:39Speaker 2: what he did being honest like that and then back
- 42:43Speaker 2: off it kind of for marketing purposes or what you
- 42:46Speaker 2: might want to call the story of the fight, but
- 42:48Speaker 2: Crawford didn't back off it. He just said, look, the
- 42:51Speaker 2: truth is, you know, I was hit harder by Cavloscis
- 42:57Speaker 2: and he was hurt in that fight. You know, that's
- 42:59Speaker 2: the only time I've really seen hurt. But like him,
- 43:02Speaker 2: hurt him too, But he didn't like play it up,
- 43:04Speaker 2: like you know, Cadello was the heart by far, the
- 43:07Speaker 2: hardest back and I don't think he was trying to
- 43:09Speaker 2: diss him. I just think he was straight out tellingim that.
- 43:11Speaker 2: And I was thinking, like when Holyfield fought Foreman. Immediately
- 43:15Speaker 2: after the fight, he was saying, that wasn't the hardest
- 43:19Speaker 2: I got hit by the Doakes and that was a
- 43:22Speaker 2: rejuvenated Doax right fight, and that was and holy Field
- 43:26Speaker 2: was in trouble. But then he changed it, like you know,
- 43:29Speaker 2: people were like and I thought it was a great
- 43:31Speaker 2: effort by George too. But holy Field kind of picked
- 43:33Speaker 2: up on that and he started saying, oh yeah. Later
- 43:36Speaker 2: on then he started saying, oh that that was the
- 43:38Speaker 2: hardest I got hit. But he didn't say that right
- 43:41Speaker 2: after the fight. He said, Michael Doakes hit me the hardest.
- 43:44Speaker 2: I think that was accurate, like that was a rejuvenated
- 43:48Speaker 2: Doak doesn't mean Michael Doaks is a harder puncher than
- 43:50Speaker 2: a prime George Foreman or something. But right, but yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 2: got nailed by Doakes like that.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, it's how it's how you got hit sometimes,
- 43:57Speaker 1: and you know, if you weren't read or whatever. You know,
- 44:01Speaker 1: it's it's not always just because a guy on average
- 44:04Speaker 1: has more knockouts, right, right.
- 44:06Speaker 2: But I think there, you know, Crawford wasn't posturing. I mean,
- 44:10Speaker 2: I didn't see Canelo. I saw him Canel land in
- 44:12Speaker 2: some clean shots that I think he deserved credit for
- 44:14Speaker 2: in the scorecards, but I didn't think he was hurting him.
- 44:18Speaker 2: And then, you know, to my shock as the fight
- 44:21Speaker 2: went on, because Canela does have one of the best
- 44:24Speaker 2: chins of all time with what his resume is, and
- 44:27Speaker 2: he's never been down. Yeah he I mean, he was
- 44:30Speaker 2: getting he was getting moved by Crawford later in the fight.
- 44:34Speaker 2: It was it was just shocking because and it's just
- 44:38Speaker 2: a credit to Crawford. It doesn't mean there's anything like
- 44:40Speaker 2: I don't mean anything wrong or strange happened like that,
- 44:43Speaker 2: but just like shocking that just like just seemingly inexplicable
- 44:47Speaker 2: going in to see you know, and I gotta think Crawford,
- 44:54Speaker 2: you know, he had a good KO percentage coming in
- 44:56Speaker 2: at the waights he fought, so it's not that he didn't,
- 44:59Speaker 2: but you really, you really got to respect his power
- 45:03Speaker 2: now because it was carrying and the guy already had
- 45:07Speaker 2: a high KO percentage, so that was shocking. That helped
- 45:11Speaker 2: Crawford take some rounds. I like the way a guy
- 45:13Speaker 2: like Crawford boxes because he's boxing, but he wasn't running,
- 45:17Speaker 2: you know, just like you said, you know, he's standing
- 45:19Speaker 2: enough fighting him like that. That to me is boxing,
- 45:24Speaker 2: like you know, he's he's nailing him some you know,
- 45:26Speaker 2: not like running like you know. I mean, he nailed them.
- 45:31Speaker 2: He nailed him harder than Vival did, who's is a
- 45:33Speaker 2: light heavyweight. And that's just a fact. Watching the fights,
- 45:36Speaker 2: I mean, you know, so yeah, balance right, you know,
- 45:40Speaker 2: I take of it as one shot that's going around
- 45:44Speaker 2: where he's like whoa, what the right? Like they're showing
- 45:47Speaker 2: that because the dramatic reaction, But I think there was
- 45:49Speaker 2: a different one in there that even stung them more.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that one, you know, and uh and then
- 45:55Speaker 2: you know, also another thing I think that I didn't
- 45:57Speaker 2: take an account enough. I mean you know, Crawford a
- 46:00Speaker 2: south past I mean, it's tough to fight a southpaw.
- 46:03Speaker 2: I mean, I think Canelo he does deserve some credit
- 46:06Speaker 2: for this, even though I think in recent years it's
- 46:08Speaker 2: pretty obviously he didn't want to fight Menavitas. But there
- 46:11Speaker 2: is a truth and what I think, I know what
- 46:13Speaker 2: Canelo himself was kind of trying to get across after
- 46:16Speaker 2: the fight. He didn't put it this way, but I
- 46:18Speaker 2: think it's what he was getting at was and there
- 46:20Speaker 2: is truth to this in his career, like, hey, I
- 46:24Speaker 2: fight these guys that have tough style matchups, like you know,
- 46:28Speaker 2: I'm not not like you know, I'm not saying, hey,
- 46:31Speaker 2: I'm not fighting Arislan dy Laura, I'm not fighting Terrence Crawford.
- 46:35Speaker 2: I'm not fighting Floyd Mayweather. Right, And you know, even
- 46:38Speaker 2: with the pays, there's people that do that. You know,
- 46:40Speaker 2: glove can with the chin and the power, you know, like,
- 46:44Speaker 2: but he's taken, you know, I think that's what you know,
- 46:46Speaker 2: He's obviously now is near the end of his career.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I wouldn't mind seeing him hanging it up, but I
- 46:51Speaker 2: saw already Turkey Awashk said he's talked to him and
- 46:53Speaker 2: he's made. You know, that's probably a kind way of
- 46:56Speaker 2: saying I'm making him say I'm going to fulfill the
- 47:00Speaker 2: contract because I'm not reading that contract. But I can
- 47:03Speaker 2: tell you as a lawyer, you know, with what he
- 47:05Speaker 2: got paid for and people should be talking about this
- 47:07Speaker 2: more post fight, you know what he got paid for
- 47:10Speaker 2: Skull and what he got paid for Crawford. Now, again,
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm not reading the contract. I'm not saying I have,
- 47:17Speaker 2: but there could be a callback in there, like if
- 47:20Speaker 2: you don't do the four fights, yeah, especially you don't
- 47:24Speaker 2: get the one fifty, you don't get the one hundred
- 47:27Speaker 2: and fifty billion for Crawford, or you know what, to
- 47:29Speaker 2: say he got paid one ten for Skull or something
- 47:32Speaker 2: like that.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Like it's tough to say. It's a lot, that's what
- 47:35Speaker 1: we do know.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Right, but but that might be there. But then, like
- 47:38Speaker 2: even if even Turkey Awschik's not going to pay him
- 47:41Speaker 2: one ten for Skull or whatever you got, if you're
- 47:45Speaker 2: not going to fulfill the whole.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Deal, that couldn't be right in the contract. That's a
- 47:49Speaker 1: good that could be there.
- 47:52Speaker 2: You know, it may sound funny because of the money
- 47:55Speaker 2: Canelos made, but still, you know, fighter you know, you're
- 47:59Speaker 2: risking to see all the time and everything. In that sense,
- 48:02Speaker 2: I do feel like a little sorry for Canelo if
- 48:05Speaker 2: that's the case, like that, he's thirty five, he's he's
- 48:09Speaker 2: slipping and he's got to fulfill. He may have to
- 48:13Speaker 2: fulfill two more fights, or he's gotta get back, get
- 48:17Speaker 2: back some money or you know, get shoot for some
- 48:19Speaker 2: money or some kind of clawback. Right. Yeah, so that's tough.
- 48:24Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, he signed the deal and everything, but
- 48:26Speaker 2: that's kind of a kind.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Of that deal under the ALI Act or is that
- 48:30Speaker 1: a Saudi Arabia deal or a deal I would.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I would think it's got to be something outside of
- 48:37Speaker 2: the US.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Right because otherwise we haven't been talking about this because
- 48:41Speaker 1: you are you you can retire, you know right now.
- 48:44Speaker 1: You can't go fight somebody else. You know, you said
- 48:48Speaker 1: you're gonna, you know, do in the contract, but you
- 48:50Speaker 1: can't retire, you know.
- 48:51Speaker 2: When I thought about it. But I thought about it
- 48:53Speaker 2: when I saw the number he was rumored to have
- 48:56Speaker 2: been paid for fighting Skull, and I thought, you know,
- 48:59Speaker 2: if if Turkey was signing him away from a Jake
- 49:03Speaker 2: Paul deal, overpay could have been that bad. But then
- 49:08Speaker 2: probably what he had him hooked on was you gotta
- 49:11Speaker 2: do the four fights. Yeah, and now Canelo was thirty
- 49:14Speaker 2: five and slipping coming off a tough loss, got stuck.
- 49:19Speaker 1: If there's not a rematch, what is next? Then?
- 49:22Speaker 2: You know, well, that's what could get tough for a Canelo.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Like if they're I don't know what that contract would
- 49:28Speaker 2: would read for who he can make your fight for
- 49:30Speaker 2: the last two fights of the contract. Maybe it's not
- 49:33Speaker 2: anybody tough. See, maybe I'm just assuming that.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but remember the deal, and this is why Canelo
- 49:40Speaker 1: was able to get out of the Golden Boy contract
- 49:42Speaker 1: because they made a deal. Allegedly, they made a deal
- 49:46Speaker 1: behind Canelo's back, saying it has to be these six
- 49:50Speaker 1: names or whatever, because remember it was like McGregor and
- 49:53Speaker 1: all these big names, but we're not going to pay
- 49:56Speaker 1: you that minimum of thirty eight or thirty five or
- 49:59Speaker 1: whatever was million at that time, if if it doesn't
- 50:02Speaker 1: have to do with these names. And so he's like, no, no, no, no,
- 50:05Speaker 1: that's not what I signed. And that was his his
- 50:09Speaker 1: a led and I personally believe it because you notice
- 50:12Speaker 1: how quickly he was led out of his contract, you
- 50:14Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 50:15Speaker 2: I think he was able to put pressure on them too,
- 50:17Speaker 2: legit pressure. I would say this legally because I thought
- 50:19Speaker 2: that was a good legal argument. I think he was
- 50:22Speaker 2: able to put pressure on them too. Was he was saying,
- 50:26Speaker 2: you didn't you weren't acting in my interest because you
- 50:31Speaker 2: got money from the Zone for.
- 50:32Speaker 1: You golden based off of Canelo.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Right, based off of Canelo. You're you're taking these fighters
- 50:37Speaker 2: they don't want and you're getting money from the Zone
- 50:40Speaker 2: because you're you're bringing you're bringing me and I don't benefit.
- 50:44Speaker 2: I don't benefit from that. I think that puts some
- 50:47Speaker 2: pressure on him. But so another thing that I went
- 50:50Speaker 2: back and checked, and this is sometimes where your biases
- 50:55Speaker 2: do get you is maybe just thinking like been a
- 50:58Speaker 2: fan of Canelo, you know, like Crawford's abilities to and everything,
- 51:01Speaker 2: but just thinking like, well, Canelo has been fighting at
- 51:04Speaker 2: these higher weights, maybe he just has to win this.
- 51:06Speaker 2: But I thought this was real interesting, Chris. I just
- 51:09Speaker 2: went on box Wrecked and look at looked at this
- 51:11Speaker 2: and should have taken a closer look before the fight.
- 51:13Speaker 2: But this does mean a lot to me, So I
- 51:16Speaker 2: thought I haven't seen it written about either. Sometimes media
- 51:19Speaker 2: just misses these things. So Crawford and Canelo both fought
- 51:24Speaker 2: in two thousand and eight. That was the year of
- 51:26Speaker 2: Crawford's pro debut. Crawford fought his pro debut at one
- 51:32Speaker 2: thirty seven, and Canelo in two thousand and eight waged
- 51:36Speaker 2: in for one of his fights at one forty seven.
- 51:41Speaker 2: So if you go to the origin, if you go
- 51:42Speaker 2: to the original eight, which I'd go with, was one
- 51:46Speaker 2: thive to one forty seven's welterweight. Technically in two thousand
- 51:50Speaker 2: and eight, based on your original weight classes, which I'll
- 51:54Speaker 2: still say is all you need except for maybe a
- 51:55Speaker 2: cruiser weight, they were actually just just barely but in
- 52:00Speaker 2: the same way, in the same weight class. And I thought,
- 52:03Speaker 2: and I'll say this too, This threw me off because
- 52:07Speaker 2: as the fight, great, that's a great pull, John, I
- 52:10Speaker 2: think it's really important. I think it's really because they're
- 52:13Speaker 2: within three years of age. So you can't say, oh, well,
- 52:16Speaker 2: Canelo was was fifteen then and Crawford was thirty. No,
- 52:22Speaker 2: they're within they're within three years of each other. I mean,
- 52:26Speaker 2: Crawford's thirty seven right now, Canelo is thirty five and
- 52:28Speaker 2: Crawford's about to turn thirty eight. So in two thousand
- 52:31Speaker 2: and eight, Cadello waited at one forty seven. Crawford waited
- 52:36Speaker 2: for his pro debut at one thirty seven. And then
- 52:39Speaker 2: this is the part I thought they were exaggerating, but
- 52:41Speaker 2: looking in the ring, they weren't. It seemed to me.
- 52:43Speaker 2: And I did know this pre fight, but like it
- 52:46Speaker 2: seemed to me pre fight that they kept listing Crawford's
- 52:52Speaker 2: height taller than they had been and Cadello's lower. But
- 52:56Speaker 2: then you look at them both in the ring and
- 52:59Speaker 2: it looked like Crawford was probably an inch taller than Cadelia.
- 53:03Speaker 2: And so that's another fact. So you know, look, we
- 53:08Speaker 2: all make mistakes. There's plenty of people who pick Crawford
- 53:10Speaker 2: in this fight have made plenty of other mistakes. But
- 53:12Speaker 2: I think I think that's where we kind of got
- 53:14Speaker 2: that wrong. And I saw a lot of other people
- 53:16Speaker 2: I respect going into the fight the same way I thought.
- 53:19Speaker 2: The morning of the fight. I didn't change my pick
- 53:23Speaker 2: or anything, but I thought, you know, when Chris and
- 53:25Speaker 2: I were talking about we didn't really talk about Duran Barkley.
- 53:28Speaker 2: There's a guy five seven, you know, fighting a big middleweight.
- 53:32Speaker 2: You know, he was over six, and I saw another
- 53:34Speaker 2: guy respect right about it that morning, right after I
- 53:38Speaker 2: thought that, but then say, I still think it's gonna
- 53:41Speaker 2: be Cadello.
- 53:41Speaker 1: So but I thought, you know, in that fight didn't
- 53:45Speaker 1: go how people thought it would go.
- 53:47Speaker 2: No, not at all. And this is one like, look,
- 53:51Speaker 2: fighters don't get You think they would, but they don't.
- 53:54Speaker 2: And this is in all sports, like fighters don't have
- 53:57Speaker 2: any insight, like if you if you would look at
- 54:00Speaker 2: their picks record, it's no better than anybody.
- 54:02Speaker 1: It's probably worse.
- 54:03Speaker 2: It's probably worse. I want to know, and all that stuff, right,
- 54:07Speaker 2: and I've seen plenty of terrible ones. That's why I
- 54:10Speaker 2: want to preface it with that. But with that all understood,
- 54:13Speaker 2: it did, look it did. Hearing him talk before the fight,
- 54:16Speaker 2: Roy Jones did get this one right. Yeah, you know,
- 54:20Speaker 2: just the way he was breaking it down. He was
- 54:21Speaker 2: picking Crawford and you know he's saying, you know, Canelo
- 54:25Speaker 2: is not a one punch guy. He never has been.
- 54:28Speaker 2: And if you're not talking about that kind of a guy,
- 54:31Speaker 2: and and you know the styles like you know for
- 54:34Speaker 2: Canelos had trouble with you know, I was then letting
- 54:37Speaker 2: the size they override that. But now when you when
- 54:40Speaker 2: then I look back, I should have I should have
- 54:42Speaker 2: digested that more pre fight. But then it wasn't the discrepancy. Really,
- 54:48Speaker 2: I was even thinking going in these guys at most
- 54:53Speaker 2: were actually a weight class apart at most really probably
- 54:57Speaker 2: on their actual like size and the.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Reason see biased with the Modrama fight at fifty four,
- 55:04Speaker 1: I think I think I weighed that a little too heavy,
- 55:09Speaker 1: you know, when I look back at it and go,
- 55:12Speaker 1: styles make fights, we know that. But he just didn't
- 55:15Speaker 1: look all that good. I think I made the mistake
- 55:19Speaker 1: years ago with Usik too, in his first two heavyweight fights,
- 55:23Speaker 1: he lived like crap, really, you know. And then it's like,
- 55:27Speaker 1: so I think I I not that I weighed that
- 55:31Speaker 1: fight too heavy, but because it was competitive or whatever,
- 55:36Speaker 1: But like, I think I put a little too Like, man,
- 55:39Speaker 1: if he can't even clear himself from MODRUMUV at fifty four,
- 55:42Speaker 1: how is he gonna?
- 55:43Speaker 2: You know?
- 55:44Speaker 1: So I think I got I got a little lost
- 55:45Speaker 1: in that too.
- 55:46Speaker 2: But one of that might be you know, MODRUMV has
- 55:48Speaker 2: amateur pedigree, right, yeah, yeah, he's not that tall, but
- 55:54Speaker 2: you know he is he does have some skill, you know,
- 55:56Speaker 2: he does have some skills. He's a tough you know,
- 55:58Speaker 2: he's a tough out.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 56:00Speaker 2: The other thing, like Canelo. You know, he has learned
- 56:02Speaker 2: how to box, He's become a boxer. He really kind
- 56:07Speaker 2: of overly likes the box now really, even like you
- 56:10Speaker 2: look the way he's fighting at and getting frustrated at
- 56:12Speaker 2: the end because he can't out box Crawford. But you know, yeah,
- 56:21Speaker 2: so it's like, uh, just the you know, the styles
- 56:28Speaker 2: you know, wasn't wasn't really there for Canelo. But one
- 56:31Speaker 2: thing I wanted to point out too that I think
- 56:33Speaker 2: we kind of missed. And even though I've always been
- 56:36Speaker 2: resistant to them and argued with him on this point,
- 56:38Speaker 2: I think it's almost like they influenced you, which is like,
- 56:44Speaker 2: you know, Glovekin's you know, I mean, excuse me, Canelo's
- 56:47Speaker 2: greatest fights are going to go down as Glovekin in
- 56:51Speaker 2: the end, you know, when his legacies. So, you know,
- 56:54Speaker 2: and I and I was someone I did think Canelo
- 56:57Speaker 2: had a lull he shouldn't have had in the middle
- 56:58Speaker 2: of that fight. That's the other thing we did see
- 57:02Speaker 2: past weaknesses of Canalo coming out in different areas. One
- 57:04Speaker 2: of them is a stamina, you know, that's where he
- 57:07Speaker 2: almost blew it and Glovekin won. I didn't think the
- 57:09Speaker 2: draw was a robbery I think he could even have
- 57:11Speaker 2: Canelo by two. I know, you know that's a real
- 57:14Speaker 2: minority on that fight, but I still hold to it
- 57:16Speaker 2: because I think he got to score every round and
- 57:18Speaker 2: I think Canelo started fine. Then people saw the lull
- 57:22Speaker 2: in the middle where Canelo was on the verge of
- 57:24Speaker 2: blowing the fight no doubt, which his own corner was
- 57:26Speaker 2: telling him, and he was way too passive. But then
- 57:30Speaker 2: he did pick it up at he did pick it
- 57:31Speaker 2: up at the end, and you gotta score, you know,
- 57:33Speaker 2: you got to score all the rounds. Then the second fight,
- 57:36Speaker 2: he was more aggressive, and then the third fight, you know,
- 57:40Speaker 2: Glove can look kind of faded. But again what you saw,
- 57:43Speaker 2: even though the scorecards had that fight way closer than
- 57:47Speaker 2: they should have, I thought, but Canelos still like he
- 57:52Speaker 2: didn't show stamina in the second half of that third fight.
- 57:55Speaker 2: He was beaten. You know, he was dominating him for
- 57:58Speaker 2: the first six rounds and Glove and then wasn't doing
- 58:01Speaker 2: anything much. But Canelo just lulled again in the second half.
- 58:05Speaker 2: So you know, you saw those lulls against Crawford. But
- 58:09Speaker 2: what I'm here's what I was saying, like getting back
- 58:11Speaker 2: to where the glovekin fan club. I never bought what
- 58:15Speaker 2: they were saying, but like they still would repeat it
- 58:17Speaker 2: all the time, like, well, Glovekin's this underrated boxer and
- 58:22Speaker 2: all this stuff. Glovekin's strength was a great chin, and
- 58:26Speaker 2: he had a lot of power with punch variety the dude.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Anybody could hit the dude with power right hands at will,
- 58:33Speaker 2: including Canelo, and then you saw you know, deriv and
- 58:37Speaker 2: Chenko hitting them all over, Jacobs hitting him plenty. That's great, chip,
- 58:44Speaker 2: I mean even Monroe, Yeah, pop for in that little time.
- 58:49Speaker 2: He really didn't no pop, but he was landing at will.
- 58:53Speaker 2: And then the Glovekin fan club was saying like, oh,
- 58:55Speaker 2: he just let him. They were literally saying, he let him,
- 58:58Speaker 2: He just let him hit him, know, I mean, he
- 59:01Speaker 2: wasn't letting Canelo hit him. He wasn't letting Derivaja and
- 59:04Speaker 2: Chenko hit him, you know, and they so it's a style.
- 59:09Speaker 2: And that's where you get to the styles make fights.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Why the slow feet, you know, comparatively the footwork, you
- 59:15Speaker 1: know that all added up.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Like Canelo, he could crank it up against the Glovekin.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Even though they were very tough fights, you know, especially
- 59:22Speaker 2: the first two, because the guys right there to be hit,
- 59:26Speaker 2: and that's where then Canelo's boxing skills to find them,
- 59:30Speaker 2: he didn't have to find I think when we look
- 59:33Speaker 2: back at his career, that's the key. You know, like
- 59:36Speaker 2: as good of a fighter as like Evander Holyfield was,
- 59:39Speaker 2: especially as I got a little later in his career,
- 59:42Speaker 2: but it does remind me that a little some of
- 59:43Speaker 2: these guys like Canelo, he's good at countering if he's
- 59:46Speaker 2: got the right out of counter. You know, holy Field
- 59:47Speaker 2: could do that too, like you know, even as great
- 59:51Speaker 2: as a fighter as he was, as like a like
- 59:53Speaker 2: a James Tony, but like what like they need guys,
- 59:57Speaker 2: you know, they need guys that are coming out and
- 59:59Speaker 2: you Duran, I mean Duran always I'm a huge Duran fan,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: you know, to me, greatest living fighter of all time.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: But if he had to go fight, if he had
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: to go find a guy, even if yeah, he had problem,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: he would have some problems, you know, like he had
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: problems with the viauettes, you know, I mean you're going
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: way back at lightweight, Villamar Fernandez. I mean, you know,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: like guys that but you know, if like like we're
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: talking like even Barkley at the end when Durand's old,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: you know, some some guy that's you know coming at
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: you know, coming at him. Ye exactly. I mean it's
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: a fight like Canelo's got some of that in him,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: so he could do that with Glovekin, but he can't
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: do that. You know, guys that like Bought, you know,
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: guys like Mayweather. You know, a tough time with Laura.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: You know, I thought he still pulled that one out
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: at the end, but these were these were obviously difficult
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: fights for him. You know, Bivol does not want to
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: engage at all. You know, he's jumping in and out
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: and and uh, you know he's he's certainly not coming
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: to fight. He's certainly not coming to fight yet. You know,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: you're probably you know, you're really going to see that
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: with Canelo when his career gets digested at the end.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: I mean I think that, you know, people were suspecting that,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: and this Crawford fight really probably in Canelo's sense, it's
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: going to have confirmed that once and for all. And
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: that's what makes me worry about a Canelo if he's
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: going to continue, because he's thirty five, he's slipping some
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: and like I do think a guy like him in
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: the style matchups we're talking about, could pull up pull
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: out a great win that some people might not suspect,
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: like even against somebody real tough who who presents that
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: kind of style for him. But what why I worry
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: about him is like at this stage show, then that's
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: going to be a fight, like where he's taken shots too,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: and he's got a good chin, and you know, do
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: you want to this band's literally made hundreds of millions
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: of dollars, he's got a family. Do you want to
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: be at thirty five plus taking those kind of shots?
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: If that's right, That's why I brought up holy Field,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Like that's the kind of style you got to have
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: to get victory because you know holy Field, especially as
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: he got past his prime, you know, somebody that was
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: going to box him some or you know, he was
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: he was having a lot of he was having a
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: lot of he was having a lot of troubles.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: But I wouldn't doubt if Turkey wants to put him
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: over with Sharraz, you know, because he's big on Sharras,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: so he could want to say, hey, if I can
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: get him over Canelo, I can make him a bigger
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: star or whatever.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: But sure that's true.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I could see that. But and you know, it kind
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: of matters how Sharaz would fight that fight. Would he
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: be willing to use the jab, use the length and
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: circle and pivot and do all that type of stuff,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: or would he be there? You know, right, because he's
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: definitely not the defender nor the overall fighter as we
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: know for Crawford. But let's so, you know, now that
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: we've seen him beat Canelo, go up like that in
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: wait class and whatnot work, what does that do for Crawford?
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: You know, as far as all time, we've got the
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: hyperbole now you know online he's better than Sugarrette Robinson
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: and all this stuff. Of course, I knew the Floyd
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and him were gonna, you know, head to head since
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: they have the Canelo fight, but we're you don't have
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: to give your exact ranking or whatever. But you know what,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: what's this because obviously it was a legacy fight. There's
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: just no way around it.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: You know, well, you know, he he already accomplished to
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: me what seems to be And I think people I
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: know who are boxing historians pick up on this and
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: usually catch it. A lot of people that aren't interested
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: in that in that kind of history don't. But he'd
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: already you know, he was basically lineal lightweight champ and
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: lineal welterweight champ. If you start looking at if you
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: start looking at great fighters, like the real greats, the
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: real greats, they they've basically been a lineal I mean
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: lineal in two with the original eight weight classes. If
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: you start looking who's done that, that's like automatic great
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: That's that's pretty much automatic greatness. So I look for that,
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: you know, like like Mayweather was at the top at
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: you know, lightweight and welter weight, then he fought above that,
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: So that to me is like kind of what this did,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Like so that is fair. I mean if Mayweather's you know,
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: got a better resume overall of fighters, but like I
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: would say that is a good comparison in that sense,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: like Crawford all the way to the top at you know, lightweight.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Well he made a hell of a run late too
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: with some of these names, you know, cause you can
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: say you can rip his hiss or not rip his resident,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: but say it's a little light. But he did really
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: start to add to it lately, you know.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Right, and now he's beating he's beaten a great fighter
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: over the middleweight limit. You know, can which you can't
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: take that away from Mayweather. I mean Mayweather did that too,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: you know, you know, at a different weight, but he's
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: still but he did it. And and he was much older
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: than Canlo, which.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Is wasn't green, you know, he wasn't crazy young. He's
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: like how many. First of all, he had a bunch
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: of fights. He wasn't the problem. He had beaten a
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: solid fighter and trout. But it doesn't mean he was
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: one hundred percent in his prime. But he's he's also
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: not one hundred percent in his prime right now, so
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: you know, And and the weight was better for him,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: I'd say Canelo, now, is he slower at this weight
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: than where he was? Yeah, but he didn't he didn't
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: have to lose weight either, right he did, you know
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: with Floyd.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: So you know, right, so now Crawford's beaten. He's beaten.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: He's beating a good fighter, you know, at the old
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: middleweight limit one you know which one P fifty four
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: would have been in modrum off. And then you know
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: he's he's fighting over the traditional middleweight limit in light
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: heavyweight territory, beating Canelo, and Canelo has light heavyweight wins,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: so that makes that more legitimate too, you know, at
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty eight pounds, So I mean his greatness,
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: his greatness is definitely there. He's got the two, he's
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: got the two lineals in two of the original eight
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: lightweight and wait, wait, and then he's got a huge
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: win now in the in the old light heavyweight limit. Now,
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: now that's to me like as great as Canelo has
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: been and as great as Crawford is. But I don't
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: think it's a stretch to say this. I was thinking
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: about this post fight too. It's really where you do
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: get into the still the too many weight classes. And
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: why do I say that, because it's not being too
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: harsh to really say. And even though I've been a
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: big Canelo fan, if there was no one sixty eight,
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: which there wasn't even in the alphabets till nineteen eighty seven,
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: would be would Canelo be a champion right now? Right? No,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: exactly right? He would either have to be the lineal
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: light heavyweight champ or go be at middleweight, and who
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: knows how many.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Would be there weight it would have been alight, you know,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: So I'm going out one sixty six. You're gonna fight
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: me or not.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: That's what I mean, if he had to really do
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: it just in one of those two original eight weight classes,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: let's just pretend there were no juniors. I don't think
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: he's probably carrying a belt right now. And that's where
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: I think, you know, I saw Criff Cliff Rolls say it,
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: and it's not preposterous for the historian types, which I
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: am too, Like I'm not even saying this is the
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: biggest cell but like Turkey can make it. It does
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: make me as a historian like intrigued about Crawford just
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: saying like, well, you know, hell with it, I'm gonna
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: take I'm gonna take Bivol on and try to try
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: to just try to get the lineal light heavyweight title
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: because look Bivol, you know, just with his mentality, Like
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: even though Crawford's now in that case he is a
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: smaller guy, but like can can does bib All even
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: have the mentality to be aggressive in a big fight,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: like even against a Crawford. I'm actually thinking like, no,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: he doesn't. So if it turns into a chess, he
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: would need to be right, he would need to be
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: and I don't know, I'm not certain the guy's got
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: it in him. So if it turns into a chess match,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: I mean, Crawford's got a shot. I mean you know
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: he does. Yeah, I mean at least it would make it. It
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: wouldn't be a great another one fight. That wouldn't be
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: a good yeah no, no.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: No no, Yeah, you're right, but it would be interesting,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: The history of it. It would be interesting for boxing history. Now,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: I don't knock Crawford for like because I was thinking,
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: but the problem I have with this, I'll tell you.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Like he was saying I might go to middleweight, which
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: I would be okay with that, that's the traditional division.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: But like he's about to turn thirty eight, there's not
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: enough time really, I think for even somebody as great
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: as him to like clean up middleweight, Like could he
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: go back down there now? And maybe he decisions in
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: a Damis or something. Sure, Janebec's taller, that might be
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: more difficult with his amateur pedigree, even though Adamis has
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: been fighting really well. But I could see Crawford beating
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: a Damas. But like, right then he picks up an
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: alphabet middleweight belt, like he's not lineal.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, it takes too damn long.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Yeah, take too damn long. That's where I'm thinking about
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: the light head. Yeah, now, like you know, that's almost
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: see normally the one versus two things good and fair.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: But I'm not like making rules up for Crawford. But
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: it is almost kind of a shame, like he just
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: beat Canelo, like, yeah, almost seem fair if he fought
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: like Jane, Hey, I'm ranked right here as a lineal Yeah, right,
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: like I deserve right, I deserve to be.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: There's been a lot worse things I wouldn't I wouldn't bad,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and I to be honest.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: That mean, if if like the historians or the ring
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: wanted to say, well, Crawford versus Janabik or A Dobbins
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: is going to be for the title, the real title,
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: you don't, you know, you hate what stuff like that
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: sometimes happens, But it wouldn't seem outrageous to me in
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: this case. But I know the consensus would be against it,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: So then it would take too long. If the consensus
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: is against it, and the BIVOL it's a one fight
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: deal take you know, so you know they got the
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: right to do what they want. I mean, after this one,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: I could see reasons for both guys to retire, but
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: I'm not saying. I'm not saying it's going to happen.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: And I I got a feeling Canelo, if he wants
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: to keep all that money, probably contractually can't.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I think you're right about that. Yeah, I think you're
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: right about that. And I remember, now this is just
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: people talking. Turkey said that, uh he didn't match the
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: one fight deal that uh Canelo was gonna get with
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Netflix just one fight, but the overall four you know,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: made it a deal he couldn't refuse. Basically, I believe
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: that I would got that line from so you know
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: what I mean, like, I would.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Think there's language in there like that, like you know,
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: I can't, I can't.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: It's legal outside the United States, that's a very legal
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: thing to do, and that's how it used to be.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: That's how it's a very common thing where guys had
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: to keep fighting or they get sued and then you're like, well,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I don't have that money, so I'm gonna have to
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: And they'd be a lot worse predicament than where Canelo was.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Financial you know, yeah, that Will probably could just say here.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: He's one of the only guys that could still.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: They could actually do it. Yeah, but you know, does
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: he want to you know, yeah, that's gonna be funky
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: that that that'll be really interesting to see how that.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I would love to read that contract. That
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: would be it.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like to see I'd like to see that.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I'd like to see the actual contra track, see what
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: that says. I'm still speculating at this point, but when
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: I saw what he was rumored to have been paid
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: for Skull, I thought, there's no way that can't be
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: that he's got to do it.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: If you didn't, well, that was dumb. You know, it
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: has a horrible deal. Then you know that I didn't
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: move a needle at all.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: If it's not a four fight deal where he has
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: to do the four and Turkey got scammed into paying
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: him that for Skull so he could pick up an
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: alphabet belt for quote unquote undisputed. Yeah, when he when
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: you know he'd already had that bell. I mean, meanwhile,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: they have.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: An investment in his own itself, you know, a ten percent.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Then they didn't even do that, right, you know, it
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: went Atflix, which we loved that they went to Netflix.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: But if you look at the overall. You know, if
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: it's only two fights, that would be crazy. Yeah, because
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: you know, Turkey also said, hey, I can better be
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: just still make one sixty eight, you know, you know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: but that would be a crazy fight too. I mean
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: talk about a defense a guy that would have to
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: be on his defense. But in benevita spot that would
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: be that would he'd have to be on his super
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: defense there, you know, Yeah, I.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Think I think, but he's he is it, you know,
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: and that one you would think Benevitez would make him
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: work too hard unless at this point, trying to make
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: one sixty eight just would be to where I wonder
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: that's a real possibility with him.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: No, and that's why I wanted. Many people have been
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: saying for years that he needs to go up to
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: one to seventy.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he was one guy that did need
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: to and.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: That might be a time where like, hey, man, if
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: you want the fight, come on down, and you know
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: that might that might even out more. You know, who
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: knows it?
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Could they could at this point at this point?
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. But yeah, I mean Crawford, you know, he's
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: improved over the years. He's really proven everybody wrong that
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: ever betted against them just in general. You know, you
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: love seeing this stuff, and he really showed, like you said, like,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: and you know, Max said something during the fight where
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: he would hit him with these quick combos and make
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: one really count, you know, and it was it wasn't
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: no shoeshine or picky pat or you know, it was
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: a puncher. You're like, ooh, that was clean, you know.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: And I loved how he answered back to most of
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: the things that Canella would get going. He'd be like, no,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: up standing my ground, I'm gonna land some punches here.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he was able to answer. And another thing I
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: wanted to add, because yeah, you know, on for safety's sake,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: i'd like to see him stay retired because he basically
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: has been. But I think what we saw here was
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: also enough that you know, you got to now reevaluate
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Errol Spence and say, hey, there was no shame getting
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: blown away by this guy. Not that that doesn't detract
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: from you some but it's not like we thought at
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: the time, like, wow, you know, Spence must have been
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: just totally wrecked from that accident, or how could just
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: get dominated like that. Well even I didn't think it
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: at that time, but now the pictures coming into focus,
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: like Crawford just was that good. Yeah he was on
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: that next level. Yeah, he was on that next level.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: So you know, that's Spence's only loss. You know, he
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: may have been just as good as we thought he was,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: but we just didn't know that Crawford was just on
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: an entirely different level. Least most people didn't. I know,
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: there were some people picking you know, Crawford going into
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: the fight, but you know, I was picking Spence on
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: that one. But now I think we have a little
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: clearer picture that Crawford just is that good.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Yes, yep. And I just love seeing it, you know,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: if you look at that Gamboa fight and even some
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: other fights where he really, you know, was in a tough,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: hard fight at times where you're like, man, this dude,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: he's fun to watch, but I just don't know, you know,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: And as he kept you know, going up and Wade
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: and he's showing a bunch of different styles and yeah,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: he really showed his greatness, man, he and you gotta
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: love it, man.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the best. That was the best part
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: of the whole thing, right, that was the best part.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: And that's what it's all about. Being a boxing fan
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: is to see stuff like this happening. Yeah, it's it's
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: wild man, and so yeah, Bud got it done. We'll
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: see where both of them go. Like I said, who knows,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: you know which which way they go. There is something
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: great about seeing Crawford going off, you know, walking riding
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: off in the sunset too. I surely wouldn't be mad
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: at that, you know.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't be I wouldn't be mad at either of
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: these guys retiring. I mean, I know they just got
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: huge exposure for boxing, but still you gotta think of
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: the fighter health.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Right for a couple more years, right, just to be
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: the face of boxing or whatever, you know, to be
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: a big name. But at the same time, it's like, come.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: On, you know, yeah, you know when you're taking look,
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: it can always be the wrong night. And both of
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: those guys are in an age where you start taking
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: you know, the head shots are never good. But thirty
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: five plus it gets worse. I mean, and there A
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: will just tell you that it gets worse over even
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: thirty certainly gets worse thirty five plus over forty. Like
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: that's the thing. You know, they just made a lot
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: of money. Yeah, Cadell already has, you know, now Bud
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Crawford has, I mean, why why risk? You know, it's
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: not that Crawford's getting hit a lot, but still you're
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: gonna get you know, you're always at risk of having
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: that fight where you're going to take a lot more
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: shots and you don't the brain doesn't take them as well.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Canelo is definitely slipping, you know, why not just call it?
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Why not call it a day after this?
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very rare that we see that in the
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: sport where you go down on top. Andre Ward was
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: one of them. You know, I would love to see it.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: At the same time, either way, I'm happy, you know
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: what I mean. Either way, I'm I'm happy just to
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: just what he accomplished and be able to witness that.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: So and Billy and Martinez first of all should have
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: been the co feature. I don't I understand why it
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: wasn't because someone has a stake in the co feature,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: but but it was. It was a good fight. Oh yeah,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: that I see the rematch. It was a hell of
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: a fight. Both styles did what they were going to do.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: So I want you to talk about the fight, how
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: you scored it, and then in the rematch, you know
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: how do you think a rematch would go down Personally,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I think Martinez can can pivot more or just do
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: a little bit more countering and worrying about that. So
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I think Martinez would win the rematch. But how did
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: you see this one play out?
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I thought the draw was fair, but yeah, Martinez was
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: the winner in terms of he showed me for real,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: you know, outside of Gongora. I just didn't see anything
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: on the resume. You know, he had a good KO percentage,
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: he was undefeated. But I was really impressed with like
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: this guy's punch variety, you know, like I just saw
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: him doing different things in there, and and and a
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: lot of good variety of punches, you know, on the
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: inside and too, yeah, and different punches, and you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: Billy's tough hanging in there. You know. I still think
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: people were, you know, overrating him. It was a little
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: bit why this happened. But I thought the draw was
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: fair and Martinez proved to be a good fighter and
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: hung in there with him. So, I mean, the promoters
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: got what they wanted out of this fight, and then
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: they didn't have a position properly on the card, which
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: was explicable in the sense, like you said, just because
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: of some promotional politics, but in terms of quality of
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: fight and fighter, it was inexplicable. I mean yeah, like
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: sitting right there for you, you know, right there for you.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: You got what you wanted, and this card wasn't as
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: good as it should have been anyway, and then to
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: not have this fight position where it should have been.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: Although the only thing that the fighters probably did benefit
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: for from was that the card was so ridiculously paced
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: in terms of what time the fights were going off
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: East Coast, where you got all that population that who knows,
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: maybe more people saw Martitas and Billy.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: That there's another concert out of here, you know, because.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: All the people of the East ended up going to
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: you know, fall to sleep. Yeah, I mean it was
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: that bad.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: So I talked to multiple people that they they ended
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: up watching in the morning.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was that bad. I mean, fight got started,
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: the main event got started after one in the East.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: I said, this is absurd. I mean, you know, you just.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: There's no game we're waiting for to finish. There's no
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: other live stream. Dude, you're on Netflix, Like what what
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: is I don't get it, especially when he goes around
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: town talking about well, you know, boxing cards take too long. Well,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: yeah they do, so why don't you do something about it?
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: And it's where you got to go with the It's
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: where you got to go with the basic common sense.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: Nobody spends more money on the NFL than marketing or
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: that kind of research. The NFL plays the Super Bowl
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: on a Sunday, which is a weekend day, at six
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: thirty five pm Eastern, even if it's in Vegas, six
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: thirty five pm Eastern, because and I can go this
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: is marketing one oh one that's applied for decades and
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: still applies. It's where I can explain it to people
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: because on a weekend day on the West Coast, you
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: don't have to worry about anybody commuting home from work
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: where they can't make it in time. So a Saturday
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: or a Sunday's a weekend here, so that's that's not
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: a factor. So you run it at six. Why the
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: NFL runs it at six thirty five is to maximize
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: the viewing audience from both coasts. Okay, for your biggest game,
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: right for the biggest game. Boxing you're not special. You
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: have not spent more marketing research than the NFL. These
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: are actually no brainers. And I'll even say it from
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: having got the many many fights in Vegas. In Vegas culture,
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: even when it works, even though you're on West Coast time,
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: is because when the fight then ends at seven point thirty, Vegas, guys,
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: you hit the casino crazy, yea for the rest of
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: the night.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Every night is young. How many times I've said that
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: after the Vegas Fight, Like, yes, dude, now you got
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: the rest of the night.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so it doesn't impact that at all.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: I mean, everybody's just like whoa, you know, they're all
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: flown out. The night is young, so you don't need
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: to even worry about the live audience there. Yeah, in
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: that sense, it's just it makes no sense. I mean,
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: to start like they have this big Netflix opportunity, They're
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: starting to fight past one o'clock in the morning on
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: the East Coast. I was just laying there at that point.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: I had to be laying on my couch as I
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: was watching it, and I'm like, this is just insane.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: I was said to myself, like, like what they're doing,
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: It's just this is just insane. And then they're they're
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: talking about all kinds of alphabet stuff. I mean, Turkey's
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: bought the ring but then he's not even talking about
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: boxing history, like Henry Armstrong doesn't even get mentioned, and
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: they're talking about all kinds of crazy shit. You just
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: gotta talking.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: About the BMF belt from USC Max, Yeah, welcome back, Max.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: I mean, just all that crazy stuff. I was just like,
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: this is just awful. And then like the commentators in
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: the undercard fights, they sounded like they were like hostages
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: on a hostage video. I mean like, yeah, it was like,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: I mean, come on, it was like they were a
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: little more natural debate event, thank god. Yeah, like they were.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: It was like a hostage video, like like watching them
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: do prelims listening to him, I'm like, they sound like
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: they're hostages. I mean, like even andre Ward, who to
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: me used to pretty much he didn't seem like he
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: ever cared much about what he said, like in a
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: good way. He's like going around, He's going on on
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: the party line like an infomercio, and Max is doing
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: it and I'm like, this is ridiculous. You know, on
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: the undercard I mean that Alek Heel guy, yeah, I mean,
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: he wasn't we should even be broadcast, I mean, and
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: they're trying to pretend like he's a prospect.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: The guy's not a prospect.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: I mean, it's just it was just just off. And
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: then like Adams fights a great fight against Yeah, total
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: shocks me. And you know, Sergei Booch, I thought he
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: fought pretty decent. Like, it's just Adams, just I don't
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: know how he did it. At thirty six, he's pulled
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: these eys as before, he was in tremendous shape. He
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: actually just came to brawl and pulls it off. And
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: he pulls it off, I mean, just I mean, he
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: just felt great. He just felt great. But then that's
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: on YouTube. I mean, it's not on Netflix. Like they
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: got a better fight on that one than they had
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: the right to get, even though Adams beat him the
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: first time. Odds even showed that it wasn't expected to
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: be that good, and then they got a bonus. But
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: then they have it on YouTube, like and they got
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: garbage fights. This Alakiel fight and this Dana White guy
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: on the co main event like just awful, I mean,
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: and then like Dana White, like you know I thought,
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I mean in a way, he probably maybe in his defense,
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: didn't have that much time to do, but still, hey,
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: he took on the duties, Like I mean, if you're
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: about the Gate and all this stuff, right, he's bragging
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: about the gain A stuff.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: I mean they had it one way the other.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you're going to promote I mean like like I didn't.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: I actually didn't really see his imprint on much like nothing.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: No, I saw nothing like one of the commercials through
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: the NFL and some of the I did see some
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: talk about it from celebrities that they have tied to
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: their corporations or the you know, their umbrella, But it
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: wasn't the fight soul itself when it comes to the Gate, right,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: you know, that's just the bottom line.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: And again it's just inexplicable to me how they're blowing
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: the use of the ring like the magazine, I mean
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: that they own it, like I mean, the one credible
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: thing they could do that really would help and it
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: ties into the history and everything. Like if I were
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: like doing, I just got to say, because it's what
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: I would be doing, Like I mean you say, like,
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: I mean, it would have been easy to me, like
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: like Terrence Crawford, you know, was the ring champion at
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty five pounds and the ring champion
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: at one hundred and forty seven pounds. Now you know,
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: now Canelo's got a ring belt at one hundred and
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: sixty eight pounds, Prawerd is going to try to capture that.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: You know, he's putting himself in historical territory. And here's
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: what the ring rankings are, you know, at the different
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: weights and where they were, you know when he did
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: this stuff. It's right there for you. You own it. Now,
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: you tie it in. You you get rid of the alphabets.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: And instead they're talking about this four belt era crap
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: and you know all this other non you know nonsense
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: about like there.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Nobody seven and O stat for the stadium fights, like
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: that's going to mean a damn thing, you know, which
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: means nothing, because who the cane fight in those stadiums,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: So I got to do it.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: It's like, well he wasn't in little ballrooms or something
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: before this profit like come.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: On right, yeah, it's just all that, all that kind
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: of you know, all that kind of non just all
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: that kind of nonsense and just not any not any
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: proper just not any proper historical perspective. I mean, like look,
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: they you know, didn't even like the real basics, like
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: they weren't even like showing a lot of like Crawford's
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: like win over Spence or like Vanella beating Glovekin. Like
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: there there was all this garbage and nothing about like
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: the proper historical perspectively into the fight. So and then
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: just anecdotal stuff. I heard one or two casual people
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: talking about it before the fight. I mean that's just anecdotal.
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: But like I do like to mention that on here
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: when we're talking, because I saw I mean, that was
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: like a little bit more than I'd been seeing, you know,
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: So I don't know what that's going to translate to.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: I'm trying to you know, Netflix has streaming numbers, like
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: they know the exact amount of people that watch the fight,
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: So I wish they would put that out there A
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: lot of times when they start talking worldwide stuff like
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: I want to know how many people stream that in
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: the US period.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And the only thing that I got this was, uh,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: this was yesterday. This is Dan Rafael. Okay, that's who
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: the source comes from, per Netflix, Like you just mentioned
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: the forty one million, forty one point four around the world, right,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: So it's the most viewed Men's Championship box match, right,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: but then it said, but he said in the US,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Netflix said twenty point three million viewers watched the main event.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: But and then they they've said five hundred thousand people
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: in over two thousand bars and whatever. Right, but there
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: it's the way they do the streaming stuff. Did someone
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: like if you went to Netflix in that does that count?
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: You know? Like what what what's the actual detail of
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: how long did you have to do? Was it? Could
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: you click on it and they click off and that's
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: a view then? Or you know there is some detailed
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: stuff that is that.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: Is better, that is better numbers than we're normal. Again,
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: that's the kind of stuff I want. I think what
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: you're saying there, and I think when I've read about
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: Netflix doing that would be the question you have, Chris,
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: which is right? I think the way the way Rafael
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: put it there, though, what Netflix does some sometimes is
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: like they're assuming that one stream is like in a
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: households four people, right, and it may or may not be.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: So because when remember we sell the tailor Serrano numbers
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: right and it said like two million or something, right,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: but then in this press release it said that got
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: more streaming numbers than this. Then worldwide you know, so
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: it's funky, you.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: Know, I mean, it's not that. And when I say
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: about the worldwide respect with people in other countries, like
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: it doesn't I don't mean that. I don't When I
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: say I don't care, it's like I don't mean that
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: doesn't matter. It's I mean, I should really put it
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: in here. They're trying, right, they're trying to camouflage must
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: finding out how it registered here in the US, and
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: like that's what I want to know. Just so Jack
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: maca is boxing fading in the US? I mean on Netflix,
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: could I believe twenty zero point three million people watched it?
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: I could believe that I could. That would be That
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: would be what I was hoping for at best if
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: they got a number like that.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: And the reason why I say that.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: The NFL games, just like that week, the streamers like Florio,
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Mike Florio, which I'd check out anyway, but one year
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: behind me in law school at WVU. So okay, wife
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: was what his wife was in my class, Joe, So
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: you know, I'll check Florio's stuff. So by Florio was
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: reporting on some of the streaming game ratings. That's why
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: sometimes I'll retreat because I've got in mind, like, okay,
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: when the boxing comes up, we got a big event
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: like this a Netflix. Yeah, it's kind of seemed comparable,
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: like I think, well, so is the So I think
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: maybe Chiefs, Yeah, chief Seagulls. That was the Friday, not
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: not Chiefs, Chiefs Eagles was this week? It was uh
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: week week one week one with the Eagles.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, who the hell was it? But I know
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: you're talking about it was a Friday. That was the Friday,
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: right exactly. I don't know why I'm blank it out right. Friday.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: The Friday was.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Like seventeen I think that was seventeen point three million, So, like,
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: you know, it gives you a little idea, you know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: little ideas. YouTube game, Yeah that was.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, that was YouTube. The Netflix was last
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: year NFL and that was around sixty million. Vaguely. But
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: here's my point though, Right, So they put this out
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: they said Paul Tyson last.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: Year Chief Chargers was seventeen point yeah.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and it says live plus one viewership. Right, So
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: it says Paul Tyson one twenty five, Taylor Serrouno seventy four,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: and then Canelo Crawford forty one. But the Taylor Serrano.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: It got it got measured down to like two or
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: three million, like actually watching the whole main event, right,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: there was a fairly credible report about that. So it's like,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: wait a second, which one is it then? Because you know,
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: so that's going to be lower than that one. You know.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: It's so there is some vagueness there.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a vagueness because I know what's streaming, like,
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: I mean, they they actually know how many streams, Like
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: at one in the morning Eastern time, Netflix knows how
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: many streams in the US.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: You're not ordering it on demand and it's gonna be
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: on next month's bill or something, right right.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: I mean the they literally like they know that, they
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: know like blank amount of people are streaming right now,
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: and then they always get vague like they won't. Yeah,
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: you know, I'm like, come on, that's good.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Oppressions engaged and press. Someone accidentally hit the thing and
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: there was minute. I got off it and I watched
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: something else. I watched the new Charlie Sheen thing like
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: you know which that so, but it did seem like
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: it drew a lot of attention. I did see a
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: late build as far as the last few days. I
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: did start to get some anticipation. I'll say that I
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: did see some of that, that's for sure.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: I saw it mentioned like a couple of casual types
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: mentioning it. I'd still like to just see a concrete
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: US number. I mean, if if they did do something
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: like twenty point three, like when when it was official
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: at this fight was going to be Netflix, that's the
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: type of thing I was hoping for, Right, I would
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: say that's in the realm of possibility. I'd like to
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: see more detailed numbers. But right, But although again then
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: another part of me, though, is like, because it's just
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: the truth what I said, twenty they're telling me twenty
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: point three three million people had that stream when it's
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: going off at one am in the East.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, because right, And here's another thing, like, and I'm
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: kind of just googling to try to catch back up
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: with the Tailor Serrano thing. It literally said average nearly
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: six million viewers, so that's probably ongoing viewers, you know,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: the whole time it said nearly six million global in
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: the United States alone four point two you know. So like,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: but you just put on a release that you see
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: like measurements of all the fights, and it's way higher
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: than this.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: What you kind of need that Every once in a
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: while I'll find these guys and then I kind of
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: lose track of them. But they're out there and this
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: is where they're valuable. And of course this is not
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: for a while, but but Netflix is publicly traded. What
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: you need is these guys who when the when the
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: reports come out, you know, quarterly or whatever, like, there
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: are these business guys then pour through the report and
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: then like it's it's it's an SEC violation, like if
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: you put on the report, yeah you falsify you know,
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: what you really made off of that or what happened
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: like that. But there are guys that check those periodically
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: because they are public. But it's like somebody's got to
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: go through go.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: Through the yearly. I remember doing some of that for
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: the Fox Sports portion of their quarterly and yearly and
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: seeing what what it meant to the PBC, you know,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: stuff like that. Yeah, this one's even deeper though, like
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: what you're saying, yes, I mean, you know.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: But it is public, like they are public, like you
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: can you can do it yourself, but that's like the thing,
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: like that's where you're gonna Then then if you dig
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: into those, you're gonna you're gonna get a little more
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: concrete information because they have potential trouble if they lie
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: about that. Hey, you know I bought Netflix based on
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: your false information that Crawford did blank. And you know
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: that wasn't even close to what it did.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: So and you know, the the gate does tell a
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: story sometimes, and this was a large gate. Now I
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: haven't seen the ticket breakdown, so I can't speak for
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: that because as we know, one thing, we know you
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: can pay the tax on it and that goes down
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: as a ticket sale. But you just pay the tax
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: on the on it and that goes down as a
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: ticket sale. And then you can also like a guy
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: like Oscar Floyd Manny, they would buy like a million
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: dollars worth of tickets, or there's the old trick of hey,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: you'll be the ninth Live Gate if you just get
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: over the hump or so then they'd be like, all right,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna buy forty tickets of really good seats. That's
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: gonna be a million dollars. I'll give them away to
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: my friends the fighter, you know, and then and then
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: we go over that. So I don't know, like the
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: like last summer the Crawford gate. Clearly Turkey bought some tickets.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: It's just clear. You can just see how the ticket
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: broke down. But that was in California, so that was
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: you know, that information is much harder to get through
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Vegas now or Nevada in general. So so yeah, I'm
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: not sure about that gate. But either way, it did
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: draw a lot of attention. And uh, you know, I
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: the casual fan, do they think that's a good fight
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: if they know what's at steak? As far as jumping
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: up and waiting all that, they probably think, oh, I
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: get it.
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: I'm not thinking Crawford needs to go crazy here because
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: he does have to fight defensively a little bit. Like
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: you said, it wasn't some kind of great fight per se,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: but we knew what was at stake, and we knew
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: the you know, what Crawford was doing, so.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: Did you.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I watched the Anyway fight, but I watched it Monday.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Pretty pretty Speaking of defense, I thought Anyway, that was
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: he kind of got back on his defensive tip there.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: He was sharper that way. That's for sure. You could
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: say MJ did a little uh had some success late
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: in the later realms, but it was. It was pretty
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: it was one sided. Obviously it was pretty one sided,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: and obviously Eddie Hearn has job to do, you know.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: But you know, anyway, wasn't duck at MJ, you know,
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: because if we say he was ducking MJ, then you'd
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: have to say MJ was ducking people waiting for anyway,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: you know, so we can go back and forth. I
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: thought it was a pretty clean win. What what did
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: you think about it? Did you did? I think did
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: get it on Facebook. I would have preferred YouTube, but
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: at least we got it because it didn't look like
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: we were gonna have it there for a second, you know,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: all right, Yeah, I mean I think what was lost
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: too much in the fight and even the discussion about
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: you know, hear and saying that.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: Acmdalia was getting ducked and stuff was I mean, in
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: a way, it was a minus one thousand favorite going
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: into the fight. And then like his fans, even like
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: writers who were fans of his, they don't talk about
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: that like they like they try to snow people like, well,
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: don't forget we got in a way as a minus
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: one thousand favorites. Yeah, you know, like nobody, nobody, you know,
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: fight Nakatani. I mean, you just gotta keep saying it,
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: because now he's saying to himself, but he keeps putting
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: it off. He says after it, well after my fight,
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: after now, I got one more fight an a time, like, no, no,
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: I don't need nick Ball, you know, I don't need
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: the other fight. Like to me, that was the same thing.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: There's MJ fight. I didn't need this fight. I mean,
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: as a fan, like I had no desire for this fight,
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: you know, a fight where in a ways a minus
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: one thousand favorite.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: People were acting like it was a shame though you're right, like, oh,
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: I saw plenty of people tweeting like, oh, this is
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: is being criminally underrated and under.
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: That's what they kept saying right up to the fight.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: Criminally underrated and what a shame criminally that that's a whole.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Lot of criminally stuff I can say in boxing. This
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: is not one of them, you know.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: And that's not honest, And that's not honest reporting the
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: guy's a minus one thousand favorite, right you know you
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: got to say when you're reporting on that, honestly in
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: a way a huge favorite.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Again, right, you know, not the way he fights tomorrow
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: or whatever, you.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: Know, right right in a way a massive favorite, right,
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: you know, I get and I think what what's lost
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: there is like, well.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: There's belts on the line.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: Well that's what they like, Espinosa says, that's always the
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: marketing tool, like because you know MJ. Like, look, well,
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: you know he had he picked up that upset loss
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: to to Poulos, who was I mean, he was, you know, contender,
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: but like you know, borderline, you know, journey journeyman ish,
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: you know, like so like it's not like MJ was
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: this undefeated force.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Under ground, hardcore, you know, huge triple G thing where
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: you're like, you must fight this guy.
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: I mean, but like that's what they were pretendingly.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: It was, but it didn't exist.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: It didn't exist. It wasn't that I mean in a ways,
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: not fighting. I mean, I'm sure Nakatami would take the
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: fight now, I mean, you know, you know, because it's
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: huge in Japan, especially of Payday, it would be there.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: So like, I don't see why he wouldn't take it.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: You know, he's a big puncher himself. You know, that's
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: a puncher on puncher. He's not going to be afraid
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: of in a way, and you know, in a way
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: is not necessarily going to be afraid of him. But
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: like that's where both guys got power. That's why it's
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: a very interesting fight. They got skilled, but they got power.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: So yeah, but like let's get that. You know, we
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: we all know in boxing we've we've missed too many
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: of these kind of fights, you know, for whatever reason.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: So like there was no need for this MJ fight.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: There's no need for in a way against Nick Ball
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: or whoever, or Nakatani in some miss another mismatch because
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: then in the meantime he's he gets to say I'm
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: waiting and he gets these mismatches well, and.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: They're gonna do a co feature is what it sounds
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: like too. Even though they set last April or this
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: last April that the go feature leading to the fight.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: But then you know there's another one.
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: There was a time they used to do that and
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: then it was really the next fight. Yeah, that's been
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: gone for so long now.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: The contracts are already to be signed, and you know
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: remember Holyfield sitting on the you know, waiting for the
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Buster Douglas fight to be done, waiting to sign a
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: contract and uh, and then all of a sudden it,
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: you know, ticson got you know, beat, But that's when
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: you knew things were gonna actually go.
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: I mean in the glory days of HBO and show Time,
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: the glory days, not the later days. I mean they
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: did that and it just happened like those were just
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: like kind of series they were they were doing, like
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: you know, these two guys fight wasn't like then they
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: might fight like no flight, Yeah, like we're just building
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: it up because this is like we're literally I want
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: to get that fight built up with just as one
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: more fight and then we're really going to we want
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: to make that fight, so you.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Know, and the money's there one way or another. So
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: you know, whether it's in Saudi or Japan, the money's there.
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: So there's no excuse there, you know, there's no excuse.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: I mean it was kind of like and this is
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: like what if in a way and they want to
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: do this with nakatany This was like again what was
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: good about the old like HBO days, Like like you
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: took like that middleweight tournament when they got Hopkins and
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: Trinidad in there, you know, and then they both you know,
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: won against Homes and Joppi in the first round. Then
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: they fought, like you just do it like that then
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: like not like there's gonna be some mystery, like Okay,
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: Nakatani's fighting this guy, and then maybe you just even
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: have in a way MJ or whatever, and like whoever
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: whoever wins, they're fighting these fights, they're fighting each other.
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: Nex just stop it from.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: A mandatory, you know, that's a whole like not even
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: a worthy mandatory at times.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: You know, it's like yeah, and that's what you can't
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: worry about all the alphabet belt stuff and everything, like
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: you like you just the TV Money's what drives in
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: any way, you know, the broadcast money, Like you set
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: that up where you just have okay, you know, and
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: that's the that's the most delay, if we're gonna have
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: any delay, just that, like you're literally just having four
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: guys and then whoever the two that win that or
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: fight in the next fight. Period.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: So two more things unless you have something else. So
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: one thing is uh rested piece of Ricky hat and
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: I want you to talk about Ricky a little bit.
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: And then two we did get a little more information. Well,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: first of all, Dana White got pressed out a press conference.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: He didn't like it, but he did talk about it
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: more and it is gonna be a contender series, and
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: then he said that we're gonna rank our guys, We're
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: gonna have them fight, they're gonna be unbeaaten. So it's
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: basically Showbox but with a better deal I guess right,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: or at least the idea of it. We'll see who
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: his prospects fighting to make contender, and he said we're
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: gonna make them big and then pass them off to Turkey.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: That's how he put it. So does that mean he's
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: gonna go out and signed a whole lot of these
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: prospects or just the ones he likes or you know,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: because that's the thing about this is he gonna work
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: with other promoters that they're already under a prospect that's
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: already under a promoter and co promote. Because if you're
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: gonna say it with the best are fighting the bet,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: but you don't got the best, then then it might
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: be a cool series. That's cool. I'm not against that.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Maybe maybe the ratings would be higher and get back
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: to what ESPN was twenty years ago. Whatever, that's cool.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I'm not ripping that. But the whole best versus best
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: says who's who's the best, and then there could be
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: a one loss contender. He kept saying undefeated against undefeated.
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: You know, it's like, well that's great and all, but
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: we know some guy that's twelve and oho and twenty
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: and oh, it could be completely different, you know. So
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: it does sound like it's a contender series, and that'll
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: just come down to the prospects he has in the ring.
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: I've always thought if that was done right, like where
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: you have to have the fights be the fights have
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: to be good.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: Legit prospects.
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: I always did feel like that was kind of something missed,
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: Like if you did that and the fights were good, Yeah,
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: you made sure you had guys in there where the
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: fights were good. I think that would gain momentum, get
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: built up. But I'm with you. I keep getting confused.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: They'll he'll talk like that, and then again, considering who
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: is doing the broadcast, I had to believe this was real.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: I'm watching the YouTube, you know, broadcast of Boho Chuck
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: and Adams, and the commentators go during it these Basically
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: my understanding what they said right there was they looked
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: at so many words. What they what they said was
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: these these two guys are signed with Dana White. Now, yeah, okay,
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: you're right, he says. So I was like, okay, Adam says,
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: so what's that then, right, Like he's got prospects, so
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: he's got baho check And that was a really good fight.
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: But like, now, if you started your contender thing with
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: like a fight like that, that's what I mean, Like
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: people would be into it, Like if you had like
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: a bunch of those like you were real careful, like
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: you're not cheating the public, like.
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: You're really be sure like, and that would mean he
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: would because there's prospects that already have deals and they
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: are some of the best prospects out there, so you
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: can't just ignore them.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: If you're gonna say and tell us and hit us
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: over the fucking head with it about this best versus best,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: I'm all for it if you were, because he doesn't
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: work with other promoters in MMA as we know. So
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: are you gonna sign even like like Zanfer in top
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: rank and you know where they do code deals, you know, Okay,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: so if the guy has, if the if the fighter
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: has to sign with you to do it, Okay, it's
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: a code deal, that's fine with me. But that's what
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: I'm saying these Is he just trying I gotta see
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: it to believe it, that's all.
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: I'm just still to me, it just still seems like
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: they're not clear on what they're gonna.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Do, and then I'm gonna pass them off the Turkey.
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: So is that? So? What's Turkey's deal moving forward? Is
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: he is it pay per viewed his own or which?
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: What is it? Is he got a better does he
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: got a good deal coming up that we don't know about? Hopefully?
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: You know, I don't know.
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: That's what When even the way Turkey talks like he
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: wants to do it, the net you and I kept
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: criticizing it for it, and rightfully so. And this was
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: a one offer right now, although he's saying it might,
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: although he said Saturday night it's not gonna be. But
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: the key is is he is he going to execute
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: a broadcast deal for his fights? And even if it's
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: just on a fight by fight basis whatever, but where Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: the US people are going to see it because they're
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: not going to see it on his own. It doesn't
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: have the subscribership in the US. So if you're going
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: to do all the stuff you say you're going to do,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: you gotta be serious about what the broadcast is where
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: people in the US are going to see it in
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: the high volume. Now you did do that Saturday night,
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: despite the poor delivery, the matter of fact that it
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: was on Netflix with their number of subscribers. There's still
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: going to dwarf anything that's been on for boxing recently. Yes,
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: for a couple of years. You know, now one thing
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: like they were knocking them for it, but it's to me,
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: it's like what you and I were saying, which we
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: correctly diagnosed they wanted to do in twenty fifteen, and
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: I'm all for it. Is you know, they said Tom
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Brown TGB Productions, which you know we know is synonymous
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: with Al Hayman wrote a letter saying we want the UBO,
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: we want the ALI Spotify, and everybody said, oh whoa,
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: I'm shocked at Tom Brown. I'm like, I'm not what
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: do you think Al Hayman and Tom Brown, which I'm
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: all for, we're trying to do in twenty and fifteen
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: until everybody got in their way with basically, to me,
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: a miss application of what the original intent of the
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: Ali Act was because like you and I keep saying,
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: nobody's accused Hayman of wanting to underpay.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Anys the best.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: They always say he's overpaying the fighters. He's the guy
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: criticized for overpaying the fighter. So like, you know, he's
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: certainly had loyalty to fighters that's lasted for long periods
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: of time, maybe arguably even too long when yeah, some
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: of these careers keep going. So I'm just saying, like
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: that's never been any criticism and if obviously it's obvious
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: to me, Like I think even though now it's ten
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: years past where they wanted to do it and they've
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: probably taken a lot of damage, I think that's intriguing
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: under the radar that like maybe with just what they've
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: got left, if Hayman and Tom Brown are saying too,
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: like we want to take a shot at doing this thing,
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: it's not going to be just day in a way,
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: we want to take what guys we have left. And
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: I'd frankly rather see that than a bunch of alphabet stuff.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: I guess they have Tysa Samson, they have you know,
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: they have guys that know what the hell.
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: They're doing, right, That's what I'm thinking after I saw Saturday,
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: like these guys and stuff has happened organically too.
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: To these get a lot of them say, oh, he's
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: just a front promoter. Well, that funk promoter is getting
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: this guys in the code feature in the as the
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: B side that pulls the upset at one fifty four,
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: and now he's the champions two belts. You know, it's
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: not just this run of the mill front here, you
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: Right, And to me like this is this is what
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: to me such a head scratcher. Like for the first
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: year of PBC when they did all the time buys,
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: I saw a better understanding from Hayman as to how
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: you handle the alphabets. You ignore him, you ignore them,
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: You're just completely ignored. Like he knew, he knew what
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: to do. Ye Like then he was getting blocked with
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: all the litigation and the ALI Act nonsense. And to me,
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: at that point, you know, you know, we got to
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: deal with the hours bets and like. But like I'm thinking,
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: even though it's ten years after the fact since they
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: wrote that letter, they got to be thinking about it. Like,
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: I'd like to see them be able to do what
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: they are at least a version of what they originally
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: wanted to do in twenty fifteen, Right, yeah, so like
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: it might not just be Dana White like right, yeah, sure, right,
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: and let's just you know, see, I want the fighters
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: to make as much as possible. I keep saying that
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: because I don't want anybody to misunderstand my intent.
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: But like, right, but it can't be any worse than
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: this is.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: That's right. Just the system can't really be any worse, like,
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: any worse than what we've got going on now.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, so we're gonna find out because you know,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: this this messaging, you know, it sounds like propaganda messaging
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: to me. You know, the best will fight the best
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: and all this, Oh yeah, that's that's just you are
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: the best then, right, you tell me who the best
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: are then, you know, and then let's see it in
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: the ring. But yeah, well we'll see hopefully you know,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: they do get pat like hopefully twenty six uh if
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: it has any to do a Turkey that he's found
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: some sort of agreement where it's not all on paper,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: you know, because some of these fights have been damn
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: good matchups, and yeah, we've praised them all the way along.
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: It's not been the fights per se, Right.
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: Every every one thing, everybody does seem to agree on
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: and you and I certainly do. And we've said it before.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: The one thing that's been good about the Turkey Alaschk
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: thing is all different guys are fighting each other, like
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: I mean, he he has a street He has achieved that.
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: I mean, the street thing was real. I'd be the
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: first to say it. But he was the one guy
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: that was able just with throwing the money out there
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: and he was able to break through it. So he
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: has That's been his big achievement so far. I mean,
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: he's he's getting guys together that there's no doubt they
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: would not have gotten together and fought.
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: He's even getting Tom Brady to say something about him
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: right in front of him. So that tells you where
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: we're at. That really tells you where we're at. John,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: uh oh yeah.
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: He maybe he maybe out of he maybe do a
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: commentary out of a future which box.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: You know, this reminds me of the third and nineteen.
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: You know, Oh Jesus, what doing Ton?
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: It's bad enough watching him, It's bad enough watching him
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: do football at a Fox never I want.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I wanted him to be really good at it, but
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: it's just it's just it's just not that good at it.
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: Hell of a quarterback. Guys me, no, but uh, you know,
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: you can't be good at everything, right, can't be great
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: at everything? Oh yeah, then Ricky Haddon all r I
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: p rest in peace. I'd like to talk a little
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: bit about Ricky.
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Ricky only won.
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: Ricky hat No.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: I had a great career. And you know what always
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: stands out for me wins wise, you know is you
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: know when he beat Zoo, made him quit, that was
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: a shocker. You know, fat, real tough. Of course you
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: were a real good fighter. Great win. And then you
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: know I thought, you know when he when he took
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: it was a Luis Castillo out with that body attack.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: Very tough guy. Those were to me is two high points.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: And then you know he had the two huge fights
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: against may Whether I am in the camp, I thought
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: he fought well against Mayweather.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: He gave him a good run. I think he gave
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: a good run the same reason why he got knocked out.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: But he went for it, and he went for it.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: I mean, he was he was having his moments fighting well,
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: being competitive and generally got knocked out. But he fought well.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: You know, that was I think in two thousand and
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: seven and you know that to me, even there was
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: like a long time boxing observer, it almost felt to
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: me like, I mean, of course Mayweather, you know, was
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: having the big stuff going, but that's when I really
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: started feeling it because, like I remember, I was over
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: a house for that, one of just a bunch of
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: casuals who had it. Like you just don't see that now,
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: and like and tons of people were over and you know,
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: things used to be like that. You're not seeing that now,
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: but like two thousand and seven when Mayweather and Mahattan
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: that was there and as you know, a lifelong boxing fan,
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: that was nice to see in two thousand and seven
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: people people getting into it. So I remember that. And
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: then of course he had another big one with the
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: pack yaw where he got blown out. Yeah you remember
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: getting that on pay per view and that was a
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: devastating KOC for a second, it was. And then you
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: know when he then I undersally had high hopes for
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: him when he was then going to coming back, I'm
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: going to fight at Walter Waite and he kind of struggled. Yeah,
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: you know, had had problems, but uh, you know, had
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: a memorable.
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: Career, you know, the sport, you know, I've never heard
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: too many people saying bad about him.
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: You know, no, definitely, And you know you're just hearing
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: a little bit about his passing away. And I don't
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: know exactly, you know, what the circumstances were or anything,
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: but but I do think it's a you know, Ricky
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: only being forty six years old. I think it's a
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: good reminder, like we talk about and this is what
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: has to be you know, remember with the fighters, we're
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: getting taken care of and stuff, and because look at
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: guy Ricky hadn't made money. But like you know, when
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: you're taking those head shots and then you got to
- 1:59:17Speaker 2: live with that the rest of your life. And you know,
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: we know that that's it's linked to depression. You know,
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: we know it's linked to depression. So I don't think
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: people haven't that enough appreciation for fighters that are in
- 1:59:27Speaker 2: these circumstances with the mental health issues, Like.
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: You got to keep that in mind.
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think even when they're younger. That's why,
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: Like I think the fighters are being honest when they
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: say it, But when I see people either sometimes making
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: fun of it or just saying, oh, well, they're back now.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: Like when a fighter who as part of their living
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: takes head shots, you know, which is brain injury, and
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: then they're saying they're having mental health issues. You know,
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: you better take it seriously because what they're in is
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: is you know, causing depression. And I get now with
- 1:59:59Speaker 2: what we do know more about the brain, that leaves
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: me with reservations where I start thinking they're probably telling
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: the truth, and should they really be fighting anymore then,
- 2:00:10Speaker 2: because if it's causing that kind of mental health difficulties
- 2:00:14Speaker 2: at this point, nothing could really be worse for it
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: than getting hit in the head. More so, just thinking that,
- 2:00:22Speaker 2: like I think, you know, we want to, of course,
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: remember all the great moments of Ricky Hatton's career and
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: you know what he did. But when you hear a
- 2:00:31Speaker 2: little bit about at least some rumored stuff about the circumstances,
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: to me, it's a reminder that you know, you have
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: to keep that in mind because that happens to fighters
- 2:00:41Speaker 2: at all levels too. I mean, you know, fighters like
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: Ricky Hatton or somebody that you know became things in
- 2:00:46Speaker 2: his career, made more money than somebody others. Right, what
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: about these these people that make nothing and they come
- 2:00:52Speaker 2: away with nothing from it, but they take that same
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: kind of damage.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yep, for sure. A lot of a lot
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: of club shows like that where and honestly, allow those
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: love shows tend to be brawls, you know, Yeah, that's
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: what they end up being a lot of times. You know,
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: So it's a lot of entertainment. But like you said,
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: and they're not getting these big bucks either.
- 2:01:13Speaker 2: So yeah, that's what I mean. They're not getting big bucks.
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: So you know, that's kind of not addressed. Like, you know,
- 2:01:19Speaker 2: if you want to really talk about taking care of
- 2:01:21Speaker 2: all the fighters in sports, sure you want people to
- 2:01:23Speaker 2: high end making a lot of money, but realistically, if
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: you're really worrying about the fighters, you got to look
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: at those issues too, and you know, boxing certainly doesn't
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: have that covered, and the alphabets don't. I'm just throwing
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: a little bit of a rant because it gets me
- 2:01:37Speaker 2: mad when it's not talked about. A lot of these guys, frankly,
- 2:01:41Speaker 2: are alphabet apologists. You know, they talk about people being
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: in promoters pockets, but some of these guys are in
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: the alphabets pockets, right, and you know they're just apologies
- 2:01:50Speaker 2: for the alphabets. And why I want to say that is,
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: like you know, the alphabets R rank and undeserved ten
- 2:01:57Speaker 2: undeserving mandatory contenders for every deserving mandatory they won. They
- 2:02:01Speaker 2: want steer undeserving fighters to get belts all the time.
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: You know, how about the deserving fighters who fight tough
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: that never get those opportunities because it's because of the alphabets.
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: They pay taxes. Well, this is a tax basically.
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: You know, the snsion fee discension. And then also, don't
- 2:02:21Speaker 2: tell me the alphabets didn't start colluding when they agreed
- 2:02:24Speaker 2: not to rank each other's champions. Mm hmm, that's just collusion.
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: If it was fair, true competition, the w b A
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: would be ranking the WBC chat number one, and so
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: at least one of them would do it. Yeah, fight
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: for our fight for our belt, you know, but they collude.
- 2:02:39Speaker 2: That's that's just glorified collusion. It is cool, not even glory, It.
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: Just is colude. It. There's four of them, so one
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: of them would do it if they weren't all collusioned, right, right,
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: it's just common sense.
- 2:02:52Speaker 2: Right, it's collusion. So you're shutting out somebody who wins
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: another organization's belt from able to fight in a mandatory
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: nature for it's just so you know, the alphabets are
- 2:03:05Speaker 2: a massive part of the problem with the sport, so
- 2:03:08Speaker 2: you know they're not part of any solution.
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: That's for sure. That is for sure. All right, John, Well,
- 2:03:14Speaker 1: I thank you for taking an extended time tonight. I
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: always enjoy it. You have yourself a good night.
- 2:03:20Speaker 2: All right, Chris, great talking with you as always.
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: All right, man, go listen County Roads.
- 2:03:25Speaker 2: All right, we'll see if we beat that thirteen and
- 2:03:28Speaker 2: a half this week.
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: I say, I say yes, yeah, I'm putting money on
- 2:03:31Speaker 1: it for sure.
- 2:03:32Speaker 2: Okay, I'm good on that one too.
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: All right, take care, Chris, all right, I have a
- 2:03:37Speaker 1: good one.
- 2:03:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: Ricky hatt Man like once he started fighting here too.
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: A lot of people in the US love that guy,
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: I mean, and you know, the build up to him
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: and Floyd was hilarious because not too like Oscar couldn't
- 2:03:58Speaker 1: really say funny stuff to Floyd, he didn't really have
- 2:04:01Speaker 1: an he couldn't match with his own thing. Not a
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: lot of people can with Floyd, but Ricky could. Ricky
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: could match, and he make you laugh, dude, He would
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: make you laugh, you know. And and uh, he's just
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: a funny dude. And like when he had uh he
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: had like the headphones on, like the uh like construction
- 2:04:24Speaker 1: worker headphones, and he's like, well, I can't hear you, Floyd,
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: but what he's saying, you know, like there's just so
- 2:04:29Speaker 1: many funny shit from that guy and anyone that I
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: I've talked to that met him, or you know, I've
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: even seeing uh, like left he talk about it on Twitter.
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: He he saw him in Ohio and he said he's
- 2:04:42Speaker 1: a good dude and he's talking to him, joking with
- 2:04:44Speaker 1: us and just uh, just like a great guy. And
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: it's really sad, you know that he's passed so early.
- 2:04:52Speaker 1: And but yeah, man, he was really embraced over here
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: for obvious reasons, right, Like I said, I mean it's
- 2:05:00Speaker 1: you know, rest in peace, man. There is only There's
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: always only one and forever will only be one Ricky Hatton.
- 2:05:08Speaker 1: So rest in peace, man. Thanks for all the great fights,
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: the crowds he that crowd he brought over, uh, you know,
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: once he really started getting going here. It's just you know,
- 2:05:21Speaker 1: even that Melanogie fight, had a stadium fight over that.
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: The dude just yeah, man, I'll definitely remember that guy, man.
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: So rest in peace, Ricky Hatton and yeah, I did
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: get a lot of messages. They're not a lot, but
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: some messages about the Contender series and that type of thing.
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: And I like the idea of it, you know, Don't
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: get me wrong, I like I like the ideas of
- 2:05:47Speaker 1: this stuff. But I'm just I think it's fair to
- 2:05:51Speaker 1: ask who is gonna be who's going to be in
- 2:05:55Speaker 1: the ring fighting then, you know, and and it does
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: you know, Showbox wasn't always undefeated against undefeated. It could
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: be one loss, like a quality one loss, you know,
- 2:06:05Speaker 1: and it's a big test for a prospect that hasn't
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: stepped up yet. Like if if it's just a like
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: the show Box vibe but just at a higher level
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: as far as viewership or something like that, sign me
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: up for it. But is he gonna be willing to
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: sign code deals or is it only you know, the
- 2:06:27Speaker 1: so his people that he has scouting. I'm sure he
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: has something to do with it, but overall who he
- 2:06:33Speaker 1: signed to help scout or to scout? You know, I'm
- 2:06:39Speaker 1: just we do we need another person saying all the
- 2:06:42Speaker 1: best is gonna fight the best? But then you you know,
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: damn well, we've seen a better prospect at this weight.
- 2:06:48Speaker 1: You know so, and I'm not saying that's easy accomplishment, right,
- 2:06:53Speaker 1: but he said they're gonna make him a star and
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: then he's gonna pass them off to Turkey. So you know,
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: we'll see, man, we'll see all this this all works out.
- 2:07:05Speaker 1: I do want to say, uh, Lewis Crocker and Patty
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: Donovan split decision. McKenny won as well. Uh who with
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: pat Brown was on there?
- 2:07:20Speaker 2: Blah blah blah.
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: Anyway, but Crocker did get a split decision. You know.
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: Donovan was down with the third and I want to
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: say the fifth. I I didn't score it, but it
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: was competitive, man, I thought it was really competitive. There
- 2:07:38Speaker 1: was a scorecard for Patty Donovan one fifteen, one to eleven.
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: I believe I'm looking at it right now, one fourteen thirteen,
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: fourteen twelve. And even the fans this is box, right,
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: But the fans had Patty winning cleanly.
- 2:07:53Speaker 2: I thought he.
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: Started out really well and he won a fair amount
- 2:07:58Speaker 1: of rounds. Really, I thought, ye, obviously you kept getting dropped,
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: you know those back to back or not back to back,
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: but the third and fifth or whatever. So and even
- 2:08:10Speaker 1: people thought, you know that the comfy box, Like I'm
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: looking at the I did get some messages about punches landed.
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: It was one fifteen to ninety nine. Alvarez was fifty
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: one to twenty three when it came to body shots,
- 2:08:26Speaker 1: forty five to sixteen when it came to jebs for Crawford,
- 2:08:31Speaker 1: and then eighty three to seventy when it came to
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: power shots. But you know, sure it wasn't as accurate,
- 2:08:40Speaker 1: and for a while there, you know, not a whole
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: lot happened. You know, you have three lance, three lands,
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: five three, five, five, eleven eight. The first number I'm
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: naming is Canelo. By the way, I'm just looking at
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: the comfy box. Eight three, seven and nine, six to ten,
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: seven to six ten. That ninth round twenty four to ten, Crawford,
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: you know so, and then the final round twenty one
- 2:09:08Speaker 1: was seventeen. You know, I just thought the best work
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: was to the body from Canelo. I'm not saying he
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: didn't land some of those overhands, because he did. Did
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: he land enough of him now and when he did
- 2:09:22Speaker 1: land pretty good, he'd win the round. But there are
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: times where you know, you did see Crawford go ahead
- 2:09:29Speaker 1: and be like, well, hold on, you know, and just
- 2:09:34Speaker 1: doing that I also got I saw a lot and
- 2:09:36Speaker 1: got some messages about the Floyd who had the better win. Well,
- 2:09:40Speaker 1: it's it's subjective, right because Canelo was what twenty two,
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: twenty three? I think he's twenty three whatever, like the
- 2:09:52Speaker 1: way I would say the weight meant more than the age. Now,
- 2:09:56Speaker 1: he fought at one fifty five for a while, remember
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: was the Canelo wait, So he fought at one fifty
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: five for a while. And you know, remember the reason
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: why there was a one to fifty two catchway is
- 2:10:07Speaker 1: because his people put it out there publicly that he'd
- 2:10:10Speaker 1: fight there. So that was that was a mistake on
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: their side. They didn't feel like they could be healthy
- 2:10:14Speaker 1: at that way. That's on them. So and clearly, you
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: know Canela was comfortable at one sixty eight and having
- 2:10:24Speaker 1: to jump up there like that, that does mean more, right,
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: But like I said, when they say, oh, he was
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: so young, he's so green, Canela was not green. I
- 2:10:34Speaker 1: mean just the sheer number of fights and beating a
- 2:10:38Speaker 1: solid guy in Trout who had beaten Codo at the
- 2:10:41Speaker 1: time or whatever. But it was Assaulid when I'm not
- 2:10:43Speaker 1: trying to overrate that win. But he wasn't a prospect.
- 2:10:46Speaker 1: He wasn't green. He'd had a lot of professional fights,
- 2:10:49Speaker 1: he was ready for big fights and on the flip side,
- 2:10:54Speaker 1: but I don't think he was in his prime. I
- 2:10:57Speaker 1: don't call him in his prime, but I don't call
- 2:10:59Speaker 1: him green at that time. I think it's you know,
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: Floyd in you know, it was like what thirty six
- 2:11:06Speaker 1: and thirty seven something like that. Floyd was I think
- 2:11:09Speaker 1: was thirty six, Bud was thirty seven. So there's really
- 2:11:12Speaker 1: and they both aged like fine wine. But like I said,
- 2:11:19Speaker 1: so if you say he wasn't his prime yet, cool,
- 2:11:21Speaker 1: I agree. But you can't say Canelo's in his prime
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: right now though, either. So I think it's more impressive that.
- 2:11:29Speaker 1: On one hand, I really think it's more impressive that
- 2:11:32Speaker 1: Crawford went up in wait, right, so you know there
- 2:11:37Speaker 1: was a big advantage there. Now, some people say, well
- 2:11:41Speaker 1: Canelo wasn't as fast or whatever right as he was
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: at fifty five. That's fair, But then again you could
- 2:11:49Speaker 1: say Crawford, you know, he was putting on weight, so
- 2:11:51Speaker 1: he probably wasn't as fast either, you know. So my
- 2:11:54Speaker 1: thing is the one thing I'll say is I did
- 2:11:57Speaker 1: think when I said, oh, the U and Canelo fight
- 2:12:01Speaker 1: wasn't a ten too well. I did think it was
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: a ten too with with Floyd, and I thought he
- 2:12:06Speaker 1: dominated Canelo. I didn't think I think he I think
- 2:12:12Speaker 1: I think Bud won the fight cleanly, but it wasn't
- 2:12:17Speaker 1: and in many ways he dominated the action and took
- 2:12:20Speaker 1: away the play a lot of the play from Canelo.
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: But the weight comes into play that that made it
- 2:12:29Speaker 1: even more impressive. But if I had to look at it,
- 2:12:32Speaker 1: the weight's more impressive to go up. I did think
- 2:12:35Speaker 1: Floyd won cleaner though, So it is what it is.
- 2:12:43Speaker 1: But yeah, I I don't want to go too far,
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: uh too far into it now. I did hear multiple
- 2:12:54Speaker 1: people say that he's Crawford's move past the likes of
- 2:12:57Speaker 1: like Sugar Ray Letter. I heard more people say that
- 2:13:01Speaker 1: and tweak that. You know, I think it's a great win.
- 2:13:05Speaker 1: I picked them again. I mean I won in the end.
- 2:13:08Speaker 1: I had them both win a decision, right I When
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: this fight made was made, and then you could bet
- 2:13:16Speaker 1: on it. I bet a decision Crawford, and then I
- 2:13:19Speaker 1: also did a plus what was at one twenty two
- 2:13:23Speaker 1: or whatever decision for Canelo. So I meant if Canelo won,
- 2:13:28Speaker 1: I would lose or I would win less money. Right,
- 2:13:33Speaker 1: it was going to be a win win because you're
- 2:13:35Speaker 1: dealing with plus numbers. So I did win more money,
- 2:13:38Speaker 1: but I did officially pick against Crawford. But if we're
- 2:13:44Speaker 1: looking at odds like the Hagler you could say Hagler
- 2:13:49Speaker 1: was past this prime. I think that's fair. Now, how
- 2:13:52Speaker 1: many fights you know, if Crawford would have took a
- 2:13:57Speaker 1: couple more years off and then fought Canelo and was
- 2:14:02Speaker 1: able to do what he did, you know, I don't know.
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: And that was a closer fight, you know, that was
- 2:14:06Speaker 1: a much closer. That was a close fight too, A
- 2:14:08Speaker 1: closer though it was at least debatable. I thought Leonard won,
- 2:14:12Speaker 1: but it's debatable whatever. I just think the style. I
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: think Hagler threw it away in the first chunk of
- 2:14:18Speaker 1: the fight, trying to helt box it. As we know,
- 2:14:20Speaker 1: he shouldn't have done that. No matter if you thought.
- 2:14:22Speaker 1: If you think Hagler won, cool, but you got to
- 2:14:24Speaker 1: admit he could have won cleaner then had he just
- 2:14:27Speaker 1: fought how he fights and not try to out box
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: sugary Leonard. But that was more around, if memory serves me, right,
- 2:14:35Speaker 1: like a three to one, whereas this wasn't even a
- 2:14:40Speaker 1: two to one, so you could say because he went
- 2:14:44Speaker 1: up and wait, that's major, but sugary Leonard. It's not
- 2:14:48Speaker 1: like he was at one sixty his whole career either.
- 2:14:51Speaker 1: But I'm not saying he made this huge jump, but
- 2:14:54Speaker 1: you have to realize how long he was out and
- 2:14:59Speaker 1: not active in that time too. So there's a lot
- 2:15:04Speaker 1: of ways to look at it, you know. But no,
- 2:15:07Speaker 1: I don't think I just think he's got better wins.
- 2:15:11Speaker 1: I just do I do. I think Duran, I think hearn's.
- 2:15:15Speaker 1: I think those guys are better than Spence Man. Now
- 2:15:17Speaker 1: I did we now have a I saw a brunch boxing.
- 2:15:22Speaker 1: We now have the pay per view price sixty dollars
- 2:15:25Speaker 1: for Parker Wardley. I mean, come on, dude, what are
- 2:15:29Speaker 1: we doing? I did see. I did see, like I mean,
- 2:15:37Speaker 1: God bless him, Andre. Why not try to get the
- 2:15:40Speaker 1: fight right? Crawford A, you're going to give me the
- 2:15:42Speaker 1: opportunity or you're going to do with Canelo and the
- 2:15:44Speaker 1: rest did to me, not the rest that Avitas gave you.
- 2:15:47Speaker 1: It give me the same opportunity you got. And there
- 2:15:50Speaker 1: was a So that was a post, right, and then
- 2:15:55Speaker 1: someone in the replies in the comments said, Crawford clearly
- 2:15:59Speaker 1: needs to fight Andre. That's definitely a fight. The boxing
- 2:16:02Speaker 1: rule is clamoring. Now, maybe that person's trolling, but if
- 2:16:08Speaker 1: that's even close to true. What also saw this from
- 2:16:18Speaker 1: bunch Boxing. Bill Simmons from The Ringer said that they
- 2:16:22Speaker 1: had you know there is a there is a rematch clause.
- 2:16:25Speaker 1: There's good there's gonna be a rematch. Now, whether that's
- 2:16:28Speaker 1: true or not, I don't know. We'll see. Did a
- 2:16:32Speaker 1: huge gate though, forty seven million at the gate over
- 2:16:34Speaker 1: seventy thousand announced the tendance. Like I said, I would
- 2:16:39Speaker 1: need to see the ticket breakdown to know exactly how
- 2:16:42Speaker 1: that looks. But either way, it's a massive fight and
- 2:16:46Speaker 1: we kind of knew that going in. Here's pound for pound, right,
- 2:16:51Speaker 1: the modern day Big three. Floyd the Michael Jordan of boxing,
- 2:16:55Speaker 1: not true, Terrence Crawford the Kobe of boxing. I wouldn't
- 2:16:59Speaker 1: say that that's true because where do you put Kobe.
- 2:17:02Speaker 1: I don't put Crawford in the top ten, but hey,
- 2:17:04Speaker 1: whatever some people do. That's fair. But then he says,
- 2:17:06Speaker 1: Boots the lebron of boxing, What are we doing, dude?
- 2:17:11Speaker 1: What are we doing? I also saw that Benavitez and
- 2:17:16Speaker 1: Bivel are potentially in discussion, accord to according to Bernardo
- 2:17:24Speaker 1: who you know who was told by Mendoza, the WBO president.
- 2:17:30Speaker 1: So we'll see exactly this is what MJ. I saw
- 2:17:34Speaker 1: some quotes from mjfter fight. I could have done even better, really,
- 2:17:38Speaker 1: but I didn't have enough time. Well, you knew how
- 2:17:40Speaker 1: many rounds you had. Sure anyway is fast than a
- 2:17:43Speaker 1: good fighter. But you know I can do even better.
- 2:17:45Speaker 1: I wanted to show more of my strengths, but I
- 2:17:48Speaker 1: didn't have enough time. In the end, I couldn't bring
- 2:17:51Speaker 1: that out. Well it's like, well, dude, you know you
- 2:17:54Speaker 1: had the realnds you had, you had twelve rounds and
- 2:17:59Speaker 1: that was, like I said, I was impressed with defense
- 2:18:02Speaker 1: on anyway. On that one, I'm not gonna go round
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: for a round because I thought MJ had a little
- 2:18:08Speaker 1: success late. But other than that, it's pretty much a rap.
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: I also saw him brunch boxing November fourteenth. You know
- 2:18:15Speaker 1: that that Paul and Davis. It's set Georgia Athletic the
- 2:18:20Speaker 1: Georgia Athletic Commission and Entertainment Commission, September eighteenth, Oh, it's
- 2:18:26Speaker 1: set to be approved September eighteenth. Okay, it did, so
- 2:18:30Speaker 1: it did. The event is already listening on the calendar,
- 2:18:33Speaker 1: MVP and tg B is the promotions. And then I
- 2:18:38Speaker 1: saw Rolled and Chris Mannix and Bernstein talking assuming Anyway
- 2:18:43Speaker 1: goes four and oh and Fondora goes three and oh,
- 2:18:47Speaker 1: do you still put budd as the you know, as
- 2:18:50Speaker 1: the fighter of the year. I'd say yeah, I'd say yes,
- 2:18:54Speaker 1: I do think that, I really do. And by the way, anyway,
- 2:19:00Speaker 1: one to sixty two that was the punch stat so
- 2:19:05Speaker 1: he doubled them up. So for the people that said,
- 2:19:08Speaker 1: why didn't I break down that fight, there you go.
- 2:19:11Speaker 1: Now the cards had it five to five going into
- 2:19:13Speaker 1: the tenth. I will say that as far as you know,
- 2:19:18Speaker 1: the big fight. Someone also asked, why does Max keep
- 2:19:24Speaker 1: saying BMF? What the hell's BMF? That's the bad motherfucker
- 2:19:27Speaker 1: belt in the UFC, which tells you all you need
- 2:19:30Speaker 1: to know. I heard that the Ring magazine. Al the
- 2:19:34Speaker 1: al Judge, I said, AI judge, someone actually wrote this
- 2:19:37Speaker 1: in the tweet, so that threw me off. The AI
- 2:19:44Speaker 1: judge had it a draw. Whatever that means. Steven Espinoza,
- 2:19:50Speaker 1: you're the goat of this era. Yeah, I mean the
- 2:19:54Speaker 1: people that are saying that are not young.
- 2:19:56Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:19:57Speaker 1: The kids say he's a goat, right, They don't mean
- 2:20:00Speaker 1: is the best all the time? They don't, they don't
- 2:20:02Speaker 1: actually meet mean that. But but so I get it
- 2:20:08Speaker 1: from the kids perspective because they have a different definition.
- 2:20:11Speaker 1: It's kind of like my generation would call a guy
- 2:20:14Speaker 1: a player and then it turned into a pimp. And
- 2:20:18Speaker 1: my generation is like, do you know what a pimp is?
- 2:20:21Speaker 1: I don't think you're a pimp, you know, I think
- 2:20:23Speaker 1: you're a player. But the pimp just you know, that
- 2:20:26Speaker 1: just went in. That was just terminology that changed whatever. So, yeah,
- 2:20:32Speaker 1: he's goaded, like they say goaded. I kind of like
- 2:20:34Speaker 1: that in a sense. But you can't be the greatest
- 2:20:37Speaker 1: of all time in this generation. It just doesn't lie.
- 2:20:41Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:20:42Speaker 1: Del Gatto Adrian Delgatto, if you haven't followed him due
- 2:20:46Speaker 1: at Adrian d eight nine two six. Crawford's team did
- 2:20:49Speaker 1: their homework and trained for Canelo's tendencies and anticipated everything,
- 2:20:54Speaker 1: controlled the range early, close distance when needed, and even
- 2:20:57Speaker 1: in the pocket, got better of the exchanges. A complete
- 2:21:00Speaker 1: performance executed by an elite boxer. Yes, and that footwork really, really,
- 2:21:07Speaker 1: that was nice. That was nice. And then you know,
- 2:21:09Speaker 1: I got some people sent me that Benavidez ca can
- 2:21:13Speaker 1: he make the Turkey? Saying can he make you know?
- 2:21:15Speaker 1: One sixty eight? I'm not sure if that's you know,
- 2:21:21Speaker 1: if that's the fight they're going to go to, but
- 2:21:24Speaker 1: we'll see another one said. So they sent me a
- 2:21:30Speaker 1: suite of Dana White and shouts out to Broadway Joel.
- 2:21:35Speaker 1: Joel's in this. Someone's screenshot of this. He quote tweeted.
- 2:21:39Speaker 1: Dana White says UFC White House event will have around
- 2:21:44Speaker 1: ninety thousand fans, five thousand on the lawn and then
- 2:21:48Speaker 1: eighty five thousand close by right across the street in
- 2:21:51Speaker 1: the park. What do I think of this? It helps boxing,
- 2:21:57Speaker 1: because he said, I think broadre Joel just he read that.
- 2:22:01Speaker 1: You know how you read a tweet wrong? I do it,
- 2:22:03Speaker 1: you know from time to time. I think everybody has
- 2:22:05Speaker 1: and I've deleted my stuff too. Sometimes this is a
- 2:22:08Speaker 1: very creative and we'll bring eyeballs to boxing. I think
- 2:22:11Speaker 1: he just made a mistake, man, because it's a UFC event,
- 2:22:15Speaker 1: so it's not a boxing event. Now, maybe they do
- 2:22:18Speaker 1: promote there. I did see, you know in that they
- 2:22:21Speaker 1: promote a fight for boxing or the deal or something
- 2:22:23Speaker 1: like that that may help. I did see a sway
- 2:22:26Speaker 1: clip of a Shakur asking Espinoza, am I in that
- 2:22:32Speaker 1: six to seven fight deal? And Espinosa said, yeah, but
- 2:22:36Speaker 1: we'll see if we ever get that fight. Fred says
- 2:22:40Speaker 1: Max Kellerman. It's a rich guy that I always carried
- 2:22:43Speaker 1: water for his masters. He tried to blame Al Hayman
- 2:22:45Speaker 1: for HBO budget cut to boxing when they told him
- 2:22:49Speaker 1: to dance and he was dancing. Ooh, he was dancing.
- 2:22:52Speaker 1: He was dancing.
- 2:22:54Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:22:56Speaker 1: Oh the Fa Jagua and Frank Sanchez. So basically Fa
- 2:23:03Speaker 1: passed on it, unhappy with the purs bid result. You know,
- 2:23:08Speaker 1: we didn't need to see that fight anyway, so I'm
- 2:23:11Speaker 1: not too worried about it. Oh, Jalil Hackett, that was
- 2:23:15Speaker 1: that was good man. Stoppage win. Someone just screenshot of
- 2:23:18Speaker 1: that to me. Yeah, man, that's a good, good call.
- 2:23:22Speaker 1: And then you know, boxing scene did get denied for
- 2:23:27Speaker 1: credits or credentials, I should say. And you know, they
- 2:23:32Speaker 1: had an in depth article and my guy Jake Donovan
- 2:23:36Speaker 1: was on there and and you know he said he
- 2:23:39Speaker 1: had some quotes in there and they talked about you know,
- 2:23:44Speaker 1: some issues with the ring and just you know, denying
- 2:23:48Speaker 1: like you're in competition, but if you own the ring,
- 2:23:51Speaker 1: do you Now this isn't the first time someone's been denied,
- 2:23:55Speaker 1: but you know, like is it a good enough It's
- 2:23:59Speaker 1: not a good enough reason just because yeah, boxing scene
- 2:24:02Speaker 1: and pro box are tied together, just like ring and Turkey,
- 2:24:06Speaker 1: right ring, But you know you can't take your competitor
- 2:24:09Speaker 1: out for that reason. So yeah, I mean, I don't know,
- 2:24:16Speaker 1: it's it's it doesn't surprise me, but I'm not I'm
- 2:24:21Speaker 1: not for it. Obviously. There is even more rumors about
- 2:24:26Speaker 1: Spencer Charlow fighting, not on the same card, but fighting,
- 2:24:34Speaker 1: So we'll see, we'll see. I don't know, man, you
- 2:24:39Speaker 1: know we're gonna we're gonna.
- 2:24:41Speaker 2: Find out about that.
- 2:24:42Speaker 1: Oh, this is one that John was saying. Anyway, MJ
- 2:24:46Speaker 1: is getting criminally slept on. Doesn't help that we don't
- 2:24:51Speaker 1: have a US broadcaster. Well yeah, it's gonna get slept
- 2:24:53Speaker 1: on if you don't have an outlet at that time
- 2:24:56Speaker 1: we did anyway, But criminally slept on why I don't understand, Like,
- 2:25:02Speaker 1: what what's that got to do with anything? You know,
- 2:25:05Speaker 1: It's just silly. Yeah, I think I think that's about it.
- 2:25:11Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see someone else screenshot at me
- 2:25:15Speaker 1: a message about BAM and free agency. It will be
- 2:25:18Speaker 1: interesting to see where BAM ends up. I have no
- 2:25:23Speaker 1: inside thing. Oh the one thing I don't know.
- 2:25:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:25:26Speaker 1: Hopefully uh BAM keeps doing his thing because he's a
- 2:25:29Speaker 1: hell of a fighter, right. I don't know who he's
- 2:25:31Speaker 1: gonna sign with or anything like that. I did see
- 2:25:35Speaker 1: the California State Commission postponed their motion to support the
- 2:25:41Speaker 1: UH the New Revival Act, right the Ali point two
- 2:25:46Speaker 1: zero and Matt and a couple other I think Jake
- 2:25:50Speaker 1: two actually got on there and you know, voice their opinions. So,
- 2:26:01Speaker 1: you know, in some ways I like the idea, but
- 2:26:06Speaker 1: I just don't trust the people behind you know, I
- 2:26:10Speaker 1: don't trust Dana White in the in the people behind them.
- 2:26:15Speaker 1: And that's you know we we hear about, oh the
- 2:26:18Speaker 1: every time the revenue's gone up for UFC with these
- 2:26:21Speaker 1: new deals the fighters, you know, purses went up, well,
- 2:26:25Speaker 1: no shit, but you're still you want to be called Hey,
- 2:26:30Speaker 1: you had Max Killerman saying, oh, I I you know,
- 2:26:35Speaker 1: like parroting what Dana White says. I built this thing
- 2:26:38Speaker 1: into an NBA or an NFL or a you know, okay, cool,
- 2:26:42Speaker 1: So why don't you why don't you split the revenue
- 2:26:45Speaker 1: like that thing? If you're if you're this, you're making
- 2:26:48Speaker 1: you're going to get over a billion a year from
- 2:26:51Speaker 1: paramount cool, So why wouldn't you at least pump that
- 2:26:54Speaker 1: thing up to forty percent then rather than twenty percent
- 2:26:58Speaker 1: or much lower? So if you did build this up,
- 2:27:02Speaker 1: But yeah, Max, man, don't you want to say I
- 2:27:05Speaker 1: loved how caneal is? Like, Oh, hold on, Max, Boxing's
- 2:27:08Speaker 1: big Calm down a little bit. And you know what,
- 2:27:11Speaker 1: he didn't build the UFC up to the NFL or
- 2:27:15Speaker 1: the NBA. Let's be honest, he did. He's done a
- 2:27:17Speaker 1: hell of a job with it, no doubt it's been
- 2:27:20Speaker 1: become popular. But to be honest with you, never it's
- 2:27:24Speaker 1: unfair to even compare it to the NFL, and it's
- 2:27:28Speaker 1: unfair to compare it to the peak of boxing because
- 2:27:32Speaker 1: let's let's face it, you had you know, NFL was
- 2:27:35Speaker 1: pro football wasn't ship back way back in the day.
- 2:27:40Speaker 1: College football for many years was bigger. But you had
- 2:27:43Speaker 1: you know, you had horse racing that was huge, You
- 2:27:46Speaker 1: had baseball, and you had Boxing, and the UFC's never
- 2:27:51Speaker 1: gotten it anywhere near what Boxing peaked at. No, Boxing's
- 2:27:54Speaker 1: not peaking now. I'm not saying that, but I did,
- 2:27:57Speaker 1: like how canel Is said, just just call him the
- 2:27:59Speaker 1: fuck out a little bit, Max, Calm the fuck down,
- 2:28:02Speaker 1: you know. So Yeah, like I said, if you build
- 2:28:06Speaker 1: up this big bad boy, yeah, hell yeah you did,
- 2:28:08Speaker 1: you should get credit. Hell yeah, you got over what
- 2:28:10Speaker 1: was it, one point one a year billion? That's crazy,
- 2:28:13Speaker 1: that's phenomenal. But and I and I gave him props
- 2:28:17Speaker 1: for the CBS paramount stuff. If they can get a
- 2:28:20Speaker 1: fair amount of fights on CBS, dude, that's phenomenal, and
- 2:28:25Speaker 1: on paramount, you know, not having to pay a pay
- 2:28:27Speaker 1: per view because they overdid the pay per views, just
- 2:28:31Speaker 1: like Boxing did it. It has at the point right now.
- 2:28:35Speaker 1: So you know, I want to see what he does
- 2:28:39Speaker 1: with this Contender thing. But if they're telling us the best,
- 2:28:42Speaker 1: they're fighting the best, and we know damn well they're not,
- 2:28:46Speaker 1: then it's just gonna be another run of the mill
- 2:28:48Speaker 1: thing that Boxing's already done. So I hope it's a
- 2:28:52Speaker 1: good series. I'm I'm gonna cover it, I'm gonna watch it.
- 2:28:56Speaker 1: You know, I've heard it's gonna be on ESPN. I
- 2:29:00Speaker 1: don't know, you know, I don't know. I'm not sure.
- 2:29:02Speaker 1: But anyway, I think that's about going through these messages.
- 2:29:08Speaker 1: I think that's about it. Pretty sure. Yeah, yeah, I
- 2:29:14Speaker 1: think I think that's about it. I don't see any
- 2:29:18Speaker 1: Someone did ask me about the Hey, I'm just seeing
- 2:29:21Speaker 1: this now. Actually the Hagler Leonard fight. Yeah, I'm pretty
- 2:29:25Speaker 1: sure it was like a three to one. Uh, don't
- 2:29:29Speaker 1: quote me on that. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was
- 2:29:32Speaker 1: two to one, but I'm pretty sure. The last time
- 2:29:37Speaker 1: I researched it was a long time ago. Pretty sure.
- 2:29:39Speaker 1: I remember reading Caesar's Palace three to one or something,
- 2:29:43Speaker 1: you know, hovering around there somewhere in that. I think
- 2:29:45Speaker 1: it was worded like that. But anyway, I'm gonna get
- 2:29:48Speaker 1: out of here. You know, we do have some fights
- 2:29:52Speaker 1: coming up this week in Colazo is always a fun
- 2:29:55Speaker 1: fighter to watch. We we got some fights and you know,
- 2:29:58Speaker 1: I say it, it's ay, but things pop off.
- 2:30:02Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:30:03Speaker 1: You know Poros back in town more savage. Uh. You know,
- 2:30:08Speaker 1: the zone has a couple of cards Colaso son that
- 2:30:14Speaker 1: you know, Fandora. Fandora's sister, Gabrielle she's always fun to watch.
- 2:30:22Speaker 1: So yeah, the Zone has three cards. So yeah, there's
- 2:30:29Speaker 1: action this weekend. I'm not gonna say there's not. Hopefully
- 2:30:33Speaker 1: it pops off, you know, and a lot of times
- 2:30:37Speaker 1: these other weekends that ship does pop off and and
- 2:30:40Speaker 1: some fight breaks out, and you know, we'll talk all
- 2:30:43Speaker 1: about it. Anyway, I'm gonna get out of here. Let's
- 2:30:46Speaker 1: hope that something pops off. Keep messaging me, whether you
- 2:30:50Speaker 1: agree or disagree or whatever, it's all good. Uh yeah,
- 2:30:55Speaker 1: I'm out. Peace,
