- 0:00Speaker 1: The case continues in the Supreme Court today and Matt
- 0:04Speaker 1: Cunningham from Sky News is there to cover it all.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Matt, Good morning Katie.
- 0:10Speaker 1: How's it going in the court this week.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Look, there's been it's been an interesting couple of days,
- 0:16Speaker 2: in particular the evidence of Confortable James Kirstenfeld. Now, he
- 0:20Speaker 2: was part of that immediate Response team that was sent
- 0:23Speaker 2: from Alice Springs to Yindimou on the ninth of November
- 0:26Speaker 2: twenty nineteen, the day that Kumba Joe Walker was shot
- 0:29Speaker 2: dead by Comfortable Zachary Rolf. He's given evidence. He gave
- 0:33Speaker 2: evidence for two days here in the Northern Territory Supreme Court.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He was asked a series of questions by the prosecution
- 0:41Speaker 2: about what he could recall about an arrest plan that
- 0:45Speaker 2: the court had been told had been given to members
- 0:47Speaker 2: of that immediate response team asked the Jundamu Police station
- 0:52Speaker 2: on that night before those officers went out into the community.
- 0:55Speaker 2: He said he couldn't recall being given that plan, either
- 0:58Speaker 2: a physical copy of it or an emailed copy of it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: He was asked that question several times by Philip Strickland
- 1:05Speaker 2: from the prosecution. He said he didn't recall. When the
- 1:07Speaker 2: court resumed yesterday, Philip Strickland actually played a video of
- 1:11Speaker 2: a police interview that Comfortable James curses Felt had given
- 1:14Speaker 2: twelve days after the shooting, where he told a detective
- 1:18Speaker 2: that he had been that he'd seen a copy of
- 1:20Speaker 2: that plan, that he'd been given a copy of that
- 1:22Speaker 2: plan in the Undamo police station. Philip Strickland actually asked
- 1:27Speaker 2: the Comfortable James Kurston so if he was deliberately saying
- 1:31Speaker 2: I don't recall because he wanted to be helpful to
- 1:34Speaker 2: Comfortable Zachary Rolf. He replied, no, He just said that
- 1:37Speaker 2: he didn't think it was the same email he's been sent,
- 1:40Speaker 2: perhaps a different email. And he said, in fact that
- 1:43Speaker 2: this email that he was looking at now, this email
- 1:45Speaker 2: of the arrest plan. He said it would have been
- 1:47Speaker 2: helpful to have that on the night because he said
- 1:49Speaker 2: it had new photos of Kumen Jy Walker that would
- 1:52Speaker 2: have made it easier for them to find him. We
- 1:54Speaker 2: also heard yesterday some evidence from some community members at
- 1:57Speaker 2: yind Moo. We heard from Kumen Joe Walker's grand who
- 2:00Speaker 2: lived at House five one one at the house where
- 2:02Speaker 2: Kum and Joe Walker was shot. We also heard from
- 2:06Speaker 2: Nathan Coulthard, who's Komen Joe Walker's stepfather. He was out
- 2:09Speaker 2: the front of that house on the night that police
- 2:11Speaker 2: arrived there. And we heard from Ethan Robertson, Now he
- 2:15Speaker 2: was a man. He's the father of Kumen Joe Walker's girlfriend.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Now he was at another house, house five seven seven,
- 2:22Speaker 2: when police arrived there. That's the first house they went
- 2:25Speaker 2: to look for Komen Joe Walker and in Namo on
- 2:28Speaker 2: that night. When they were there, the officers asked Ethan
- 2:32Speaker 2: Robertson where Kumen Joe Walker might be and he told
- 2:35Speaker 2: them that he was probably at his house five one one,
- 2:38Speaker 2: where they eventually ended up and where he was eventually shot.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And the court also heard that as soon as he'd
- 2:44Speaker 2: spoken to those police officers and they'd left, he'd actually
- 2:47Speaker 2: tried to call his daughter, Rakeisha Robertson, Komen Joe Walk's partner,
- 2:52Speaker 2: to let them know that police were looking for Matt.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It certainly sounds like like there's been a lot going
- 2:59Speaker 1: on over the last week and a half. What can
- 3:01Speaker 1: we expect to happen today.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Well, we should hear from more members of the Udimo
- 3:06Speaker 2: community and also over the next couple of days, we
- 3:09Speaker 2: should hear evidence from other police officers from this immediate
- 3:13Speaker 2: response team. There were four officers in that team. Constable
- 3:17Speaker 2: Rolf Comfortable Kurstenveld Kurstenfeld, Constable Anthony Hawkins and also Consortable
- 3:23Speaker 2: Adam Berl Now he was Comfortable Rolf's partner. The two
- 3:27Speaker 2: of them went into that house to get a house
- 3:29Speaker 2: five one one when they had that confrontation with colemen
- 3:33Speaker 2: Joye Walker. So we should hear from him in the
- 3:36Speaker 2: next couple of days. Katie, that's going to be interesting
- 3:39Speaker 2: evidence here in the Northern Territory Supreme Court. We're in
- 3:42Speaker 2: week two of this trial, but it is expected that
- 3:46Speaker 2: these hearings will run for up to four weeks.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Well, well, Matt Cunningham, we appreciate you keeping us up
- 3:51Speaker 1: to date with what's going on in the Supreme Court.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Thank you once again for your time this morning.
- 3:56Speaker 2: No worries, thank you,
