- 0:01Speaker 1: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.
- 0:03Speaker 1: A lot of people think podcasts about work are boring,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and sure they definitely can be, but understanding of professionals
- 0:10Speaker 1: routine shows us how they achieve their success little by little,
- 0:14Speaker 1: day after day. It's like banking with P and C Bank.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It might seem boring to safe plan and make calculated
- 0:21Speaker 1: decisions with your bank, but keeping your money boring is
- 0:24Speaker 1: what helps you live or more happily fulfilled life. P
- 0:27Speaker 1: and C Bank Brilliantly Boring since eighteen sixty five. Brilliantly
- 0:32Speaker 1: Boring since eighteen sixty five is a service mark of
- 0:35Speaker 1: the PNC Financial Service Group, Inc. P and C Bank
- 0:39Speaker 1: National Association Member FDIC.
- 0:43Speaker 2: It's a pleasure to.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Have you, Joey badass man, legendary rapper actor. You're a
- 0:49Speaker 3: renaissance man. But more importantly, I like the role that
- 0:52Speaker 3: you're playing now as far as a father, as far
- 0:55Speaker 3: as you know in the relationship with your woman open like,
- 0:57Speaker 3: I just feel like you are saying of great example
- 1:01Speaker 3: of masculinity in twenty twenty five, because it's a lot
- 1:05Speaker 3: of it's a lot of other things that that's put
- 1:09Speaker 3: out there in the media, but what you're doing as
- 1:12Speaker 3: far as how you how you're handling yourself is very
- 1:14Speaker 3: reminiscent of a of an error that's familiar to me.
- 1:18Speaker 3: As far as being a little older than you, and
- 1:20Speaker 3: I feel like you're kind of like an old soul.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So I appreciate the way that you carry yourself first
- 1:24Speaker 2: and foremost appreciate that man.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Appreciate Yeah, man, you know, I'm off for the collective,
- 1:30Speaker 4: and I think that one of the main things that
- 1:33Speaker 4: we need to be doing as a people is getting
- 1:37Speaker 4: right with each other. And we gotta you know, the relationship,
- 1:40Speaker 4: the family aspect is a lot of healing that gotta
- 1:43Speaker 4: be done in that and you know, I kind of
- 1:46Speaker 4: keep that in my sights and I take my relationship
- 1:51Speaker 4: with my women very seriously. But you know, deeper, even
- 1:55Speaker 4: beyond us, like I look at us as if we
- 1:58Speaker 4: have the opportunity to course correct, we have the opportunity
- 2:02Speaker 4: to stand on this platform and almost be an example,
- 2:07Speaker 4: you know, to our community of what we can be
- 2:10Speaker 4: and you know, and what we should be.
- 2:12Speaker 2: But you know, no pressure, no pressure on everybody out there.
- 2:16Speaker 4: I know it's definitely not easy, and I definitely don't
- 2:22Speaker 4: want to make it seem like it's easy even being
- 2:26Speaker 4: in that container with someone because you know it comes
- 2:28Speaker 4: with the challenges for sure.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Well I want to That's why I want to start.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I want to start with family because how how old you?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Howld you? I'm thirty, So as.
- 2:37Speaker 3: A young man, you got a family, right, Like? Talk
- 2:42Speaker 3: about that, Like talk about to you the importance of
- 2:47Speaker 3: having that family and some of the trials and tribulations
- 2:50Speaker 3: and how you're actually growing and learning how to become
- 2:54Speaker 3: you know, a family man.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I think I've always being family oriented, you know, just
- 3:03Speaker 4: from when I was a kid, you know, barbecues and
- 3:10Speaker 4: all of that, like at my great grandmother's house, and
- 3:13Speaker 4: you know, I was I was grateful enough to be
- 3:16Speaker 4: born into a big family. It's funny because I remember
- 3:19Speaker 4: when I you know, I got to like middle school
- 3:23Speaker 4: and I started really connecting with my friends and you know,
- 3:26Speaker 4: going by their homes and stuff, and I was like, oh, snap,
- 3:29Speaker 4: like everybody ain't got a big family, you know.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And I started realizing.
- 3:34Speaker 4: How valuable that was to to be able to grow
- 3:39Speaker 4: up in a community that was so close knit and
- 3:43Speaker 4: you know, people looking out for each other. So I
- 3:46Speaker 4: think that's just something that I definitely inherited from my childhood. However,
- 3:52Speaker 4: there's a lot of things that I did not see,
- 3:55Speaker 4: Like I didn't I've never been to. I've probably been
- 4:01Speaker 4: to like two weddings.
- 4:02Speaker 2: In my life. Really, yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:06Speaker 4: I didn't see any real examples of affectionate love growing up.
- 4:13Speaker 4: So even though there was family, even though there was
- 4:16Speaker 4: like community, I didn't really see relationships.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Being developed in you know, cultivated like that.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So that's something that I took with me into my adulthood,
- 4:33Speaker 4: and you know that that's something that I tried to
- 4:37Speaker 4: create for myself and for the following generation that's coming
- 4:42Speaker 4: after me.
- 4:43Speaker 2: You know, you know, my fiance. And it's funny.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Because just last night we we like to have meetings
- 4:51Speaker 4: with each other because we almost acknowledged the fact that
- 4:55Speaker 4: part of being in this relationship with each other, or
- 5:00Speaker 4: part of being in this container with each other and
- 5:02Speaker 4: part of cultivating a future with children and goals and
- 5:07Speaker 4: stuff like that is you you kind of got to
- 5:10Speaker 4: approach it from a business mind a standpoint. So you know,
- 5:13Speaker 4: we had one of our meetings, you know what I mean,
- 5:15Speaker 4: Like usually we get like a we work office or
- 5:17Speaker 4: something like that, and we meeting there and we put
- 5:20Speaker 4: the goals on the board, and you know what I'm saying,
- 5:23Speaker 4: We we really plant it out. What's the long term,
- 5:26Speaker 4: what's the short term, what's the what's the now?
- 5:28Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. What we're gonna grab off
- 5:30Speaker 2: the short term.
- 5:31Speaker 4: List and attack right now like the next thirty six,
- 5:37Speaker 4: next part of me twelve weeks, you know.
- 5:40Speaker 2: What I'm saying.
- 5:40Speaker 4: So it's just kind of like creating what we feel
- 5:49Speaker 4: we should have seen becoming that becoming a change that
- 5:53Speaker 4: that we want to see. And yeah, man, you know
- 5:56Speaker 4: it's so dope because you know we're there and it's like,
- 5:58Speaker 4: you know, our son is in there, and you know
- 6:01Speaker 4: he only like four months now, but I'm just like this,
- 6:06Speaker 4: this is the type of future that we want to build,
- 6:09Speaker 4: not only for ourselves, before our children where they could
- 6:12Speaker 4: grow up being like, oh, you know, Mom and Dad
- 6:14Speaker 4: in the meeting room again as a meeting of the
- 6:16Speaker 4: minds again, and they part of it, you know, they
- 6:18Speaker 4: part of it, Like this is what we're gonna do.
- 6:20Speaker 2: This is where we headed.
- 6:22Speaker 4: And I think that's why a lot of relationships today
- 6:25Speaker 4: are so doomed or they fail because you got two
- 6:27Speaker 4: people who really don't come together in the line with
- 6:32Speaker 4: any type of goal, direction or even business plan. You know,
- 6:36Speaker 4: you got two people essentially just floating in space and
- 6:40Speaker 4: not you know, it was just caught out rather long
- 6:42Speaker 4: time ago, right, It's like I can't even necessarily remember it.
- 6:47Speaker 4: But the analogy is pretty much like you being on
- 6:49Speaker 4: a plane, or you being on a boat, and just
- 6:53Speaker 4: the smallest degree of you.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Turning one degree this, one degree.
- 7:00Speaker 4: In this direction, or you know you're turning to sell
- 7:02Speaker 4: that direction, you end up somewhere you never even planned
- 7:06Speaker 4: on going, you know what I mean negatively, you know
- 7:09Speaker 4: what I'm saying.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So it's all about mapping it out.
- 7:12Speaker 4: And you know, cause some people are passengers on their
- 7:16Speaker 4: own plane, their passengers on.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Their own ship, if you will.
- 7:22Speaker 4: You know, like some people don't even realize that they
- 7:25Speaker 4: could get into the cockpit or they could get into
- 7:28Speaker 4: the captain seat insteer the whole thing where they want
- 7:31Speaker 4: to go.
- 7:32Speaker 2: So you know, we apply that a lot, and.
- 7:34Speaker 4: We make sure that we get super accountable on what
- 7:40Speaker 4: this is and what we're creating and what we ultimately
- 7:42Speaker 4: want to be.
- 7:43Speaker 3: How do you pick a person that's in alignment for
- 7:46Speaker 3: you and can you talk to us about some of
- 7:48Speaker 3: the challenges that you guys face and how you work
- 7:51Speaker 3: through them.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I think that's a great question. I think that there's
- 7:56Speaker 4: a series of like call it almost like like, uh,
- 8:03Speaker 4: there's a veting process, and I think everybody is different.
- 8:07Speaker 4: It's all about you have to know personally what your
- 8:11Speaker 4: value systems are. You know, what what what do you value?
- 8:15Speaker 4: What's what's of an importance to you? And you know,
- 8:19Speaker 4: I'd advise people to approach it like a like like
- 8:21Speaker 4: a business, like if you're gonna sign a contract with somebody, right,
- 8:25Speaker 4: you're gonna have non negotiables like, nah, I ain't doing that,
- 8:31Speaker 4: you know, and you gotta you gotta stand firm on
- 8:33Speaker 4: what those things are. And I think again, a lot
- 8:36Speaker 4: of people jump into these contracts or they jump into
- 8:40Speaker 4: these situations not even understanding what their terms are. And
- 8:45Speaker 4: then now you get into this situation and now you
- 8:48Speaker 4: want to try to change terms and you know what
- 8:50Speaker 4: I mean, but you already got the other party used
- 8:54Speaker 4: to nah, like this this is what it is, This is.
- 8:56Speaker 2: What we came into, this is what I expect now,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you know. So I think communication, of course is key.
- 9:03Speaker 4: You know, you gotta, uh, you gotta speak up for yourself.
- 9:07Speaker 4: You gotta, like I said, you gotta stay with your terms.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Are you gotta you gotta, you gotta draw the line
- 9:13Speaker 4: and you gotta align.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Most importantly, you know, you gotta be with a.
- 9:19Speaker 4: With a candidate that you feel like you're gonna do
- 9:22Speaker 4: good business with, you know what I'm saying, Like and
- 9:24Speaker 4: I hate to uh make it so I hate for
- 9:29Speaker 4: it to seem like a transactional thing because it's really not.
- 9:32Speaker 4: But I do think that the business and mindset does
- 9:35Speaker 4: align with it because you gotta think about it. It's like, yo, listen,
- 9:40Speaker 4: we could fall in love, we could be in love,
- 9:43Speaker 4: but at some point we're gonna have to ask each
- 9:46Speaker 4: other real questions like so what's your like like how
- 9:51Speaker 4: do you save money?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Well? What what what what's your what's your money spending?
- 9:56Speaker 2: Look like, what's what's your money havings?
- 9:58Speaker 5: Like let's get that out at the top, you know
- 10:01Speaker 5: what I mean, Let's let's let's let's let's change the
- 10:03Speaker 5: direction of where we're going, Like I like to, I
- 10:07Speaker 5: like to trim the fact, like, let's get right to it,
- 10:11Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, Like, I'm not trying to
- 10:12Speaker 5: waste my time, especially you know, me being so intentional
- 10:16Speaker 5: with what it is that I know that I want
- 10:17Speaker 5: to do, Like I ain't just trying to I ain't
- 10:19Speaker 5: just trying to play around, like you know, we're going
- 10:21Speaker 5: for the long term.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Then we got to ask long term questions. We got
- 10:26Speaker 4: to have that long term vision. Make sure that it
- 10:28Speaker 4: lines like I ain't gonna wait, I ain't waiting.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Six months to ask what you.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Where you're trying to be you know what I'm saying,
- 10:37Speaker 4: or you know, just asking important questions that a.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Lot of people don't think about. It really hits the
- 10:42Speaker 2: fair you know.
- 10:44Speaker 3: So your your fiance, how you ask those questions right
- 10:47Speaker 3: away with.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Her, Oh listen, I sure did. Did you know? You're
- 10:55Speaker 2: right to it?
- 10:56Speaker 4: A lot of tough questions at the top, you know.
- 10:58Speaker 4: And it's funny because a lot of those questions that
- 11:02Speaker 4: I asked, like I could tell she wasn't used to that,
- 11:08Speaker 4: you know, she wasn't used to be challenged in that
- 11:10Speaker 4: type of way, like yo, like what like like you know,
- 11:14Speaker 4: and and and you know she's it's been so much
- 11:16Speaker 4: progress for both of us. But yeah, you know, at
- 11:19Speaker 4: the beginning, and it'll almost be like what you ask
- 11:21Speaker 4: me these questions for? And I'm like, girl, because I'm serious, Like.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I'm trying to I ain't trying to play around like.
- 11:28Speaker 4: You think this is a game. Like I'm serious, Like
- 11:30Speaker 4: what what do you value?
- 11:33Speaker 2: What? What do you like?
- 11:34Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like just getting really really real.
- 11:37Speaker 4: I don't got no time to play. I ain't joking, Ernest,
