- 0:57Speaker 1: Trust me, I know you're gonna like it too. My
- 0:59Speaker 1: pro tip size up. You'll be glad you did all right,
- 1:03Speaker 1: So we're going to talk about energy stealing today. I
- 1:04Speaker 1: don't know about all of you. I have been personally
- 1:07Speaker 1: dealing with a lot of things and people and tasks
- 1:10Speaker 1: and environments lately that feel like they are sucking me dry. Kirsty,
- 1:15Speaker 1: can you really.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Oh girl? We got to talk about it, Like, I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 2: summer is an interesting time, right because people leave the
- 1:22Speaker 2: city and sometimes you're like, ooh, I needed that.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I know I needed a break, Yeah, like.
- 1:29Speaker 2: A falced break. And it sometimes we think we're addicted
- 1:32Speaker 2: to all of these things that fill our schedule, but
- 1:35Speaker 2: like sometimes they're just filling our schedule unnecessarily and we
- 1:39Speaker 2: need a little bit of space. And so I talk
- 1:41Speaker 2: about energy leaks a lot, and you know, we can
- 1:45Speaker 2: plug them up. We can fix this.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We can fix this. So listen up. We've got some
- 1:49Speaker 1: good tips and tricks coming down the pipe for you.
- 1:51Speaker 1: As always, follow at Hurdle Podcast at Emily Body. You
- 1:55Speaker 1: can find Kirsty at Kirsty Godso. And if you have
- 1:58Speaker 1: a love letter to send me, I will accept it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's Emily at Hurdle dot us. With that, let's get
- 2:05Speaker 1: to hurdling, all right, So energy stealers, what does that mean, Kirsty.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's quite funny because when I meet people, I sort
- 2:25Speaker 2: of classify them. I'm like, oh, yeah, that person's like
- 2:28Speaker 2: an energy dealer. That person's an energy leak, that person's
- 2:31Speaker 2: an energy vampire, like and obviously vampire is pretty self explanatory,
- 2:36Speaker 2: like you don't really want that. An energy leak might
- 2:39Speaker 2: be something that you don't first observe as draining your energy,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but whenever you leave kind of one of those encounters
- 2:45Speaker 2: or one of those moments, you're like, oh man, I
- 2:47Speaker 2: feel drained, I feel white. Obviously, not everything we do
- 2:51Speaker 2: and every person we come in contact with is gonna
- 2:53Speaker 2: light us up right and make us feel super electric
- 2:56Speaker 2: and be an energy dealer. But you know, there's generators
- 2:59Speaker 2: and then there's like just stealers. So can we surround
- 3:03Speaker 2: ourself with people that really help generate energy and like
- 3:05Speaker 2: we can have like sound counsel and discussion with them.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So it's not like it always has to be positive.
- 3:11Speaker 2: But is there a greater good involved or is it
- 3:13Speaker 2: just kind of like dwindling energy and just really unproductive
- 3:17Speaker 2: to everyone involved?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Totally? And I think that this is something we've talked
- 3:20Speaker 1: about on the pod before, just this idea that there
- 3:23Speaker 1: are faucets and there are dreams, and if we are
- 3:25Speaker 1: too constantly surrounded with people that just like let everything
- 3:29Speaker 1: flow out, then it's not going to be good for anybody.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Absolutely, And sometimes it's about having a really difficult, honest
- 3:36Speaker 2: conversation with yourself, especially if you are an energy dealer.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And I don't mean that arrogantly right sitting there being
- 3:41Speaker 2: like I'm an energy dealer and you're a dream.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Is that your American?
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know why I became an American, but generally my
- 3:47Speaker 2: American accent is okay, So what I'm gonna do is
- 3:50Speaker 2: I'm told that's like very value girl. But if it
- 3:52Speaker 2: makes you guys feel better when I do British, I
- 3:54Speaker 2: can only like do like British.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Like that's it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Like we might get in a bar fight. I don't know.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I'll stick to New Zealand. But like, when we think
- 4:04Speaker 2: about energy, right, I do believe it is the most
- 4:07Speaker 2: infectious currency. Okay, So when you're around people like you
- 4:11Speaker 2: just cannot deny that fact of how you feel when
- 4:13Speaker 2: you're around people that are great energy, and obviously we
- 4:16Speaker 2: all want to be great energy. And his the pro tip, guys,
- 4:19Speaker 2: we can all be great energy, but we go to
- 4:22Speaker 2: do all due diligence and plug up some energy leaks.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Right, So then the question arises, how do you go
- 4:28Speaker 1: about taking back your power and protecting your energy? Step one,
- 4:33Speaker 1: determine what you want.
- 4:35Speaker 2: If you don't know what you want, how on earth
- 4:36Speaker 2: are you going to get it?
- 4:37Speaker 1: So how does someone articulate that? Because I think if
- 4:40Speaker 1: I was just to sit here and ask you, hey, Christy,
- 4:42Speaker 1: what do you want? Wholly overwhelming question, you're like world peace,
- 4:46Speaker 1: a nice significant other, a good friend to go to
- 4:48Speaker 1: a bar with on Tuesdays, Like, I want a lot
- 4:50Speaker 1: of things. I mean, that's where.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm I mean, I was, like, I probably would have
- 4:54Speaker 2: said coffee, avocados, twelve hundred cats, a sneak, a closet,
- 5:00Speaker 2: jewish boyfriend. Yeah, it's I think also, like what we
- 5:08Speaker 2: want changes a lot as we go along, and that's okay.
- 5:11Speaker 2: You know, I think a lot of people grow up
- 5:14Speaker 2: to on a timeline and think, oh, I'm going to
- 5:17Speaker 2: have this by this age. I'm going to have this
- 5:19Speaker 2: by this age. But when you're making those plans, you're
- 5:21Speaker 2: not accounting for all this other growth that's happening and
- 5:24Speaker 2: exploration of self. So maybe you don't hit a timeline
- 5:27Speaker 2: necessarily where it's like you thought you were going to
- 5:29Speaker 2: have your first child or a certain job, or when
- 5:31Speaker 2: you thought you were going to be married, because actually,
- 5:33Speaker 2: by the way, there was all this awesome life happening,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and you did amazing things in your career, and maybe
- 5:38Speaker 2: you moved to a different country or you entered a
- 5:40Speaker 2: different realm of even your work, and there's nothing wrong
- 5:45Speaker 2: with that. Like sometimes we're meant to take different routes,
- 5:48Speaker 2: but knowing who you are at the base of everything
- 5:52Speaker 2: and that being the core to what you want and
- 5:54Speaker 2: what do you want regardless of everyone else's opinion. Like,
- 5:57Speaker 2: I think life has become a little bit of a
- 5:59Speaker 2: game show, kind of like who Wants to be a millionaire?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Where we're going like, oh, fifty to fifty, or like
- 6:03Speaker 2: ask the audience, phone a friend. I'm like, guys, phone
- 6:06Speaker 2: a friend before you ask the audience, FYI, because if
- 6:08Speaker 2: you're having like super intimate self declarations on Instagram, by
- 6:12Speaker 2: the way, you don't know like ninety eight percent of
- 6:14Speaker 2: the people you're talking to. Like, I think it's great
- 6:17Speaker 2: to like be honest and try and share learnings, but
- 6:20Speaker 2: like sometimes it's like not the right audience to really
- 6:23Speaker 2: be figuring, Like you need to know who you are
- 6:26Speaker 2: without everyone else having to tell.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You, right, So when it comes down to determining what
- 6:29Speaker 1: you want, it's like, write down the things that you
- 6:33Speaker 1: really see for yourself or what it is that you're after,
- 6:36Speaker 1: if you're looking for a promotion at work, or if
- 6:38Speaker 1: you're looking for a new apartment, or if you're looking
- 6:41Speaker 1: for Okay, I want to train to run a five
- 6:44Speaker 1: k or whatever the case may be. In order to
- 6:46Speaker 1: get to those things first and foremost, you have to
- 6:48Speaker 1: write them down and say, like, this is what I'm
- 6:50Speaker 1: going for, and then you can take a step back
- 6:53Speaker 1: and go into planning mode. Because a goal without a
- 6:56Speaker 1: plan is just a wish. That's the quote.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yep, really yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, hand in the cookie
- 7:02Speaker 2: jars wish. But also it's true and also I always
- 7:07Speaker 2: think about it. Okay, I'm bad because I live in
- 7:11Speaker 2: the logistics all the time, and I'm very good at
- 7:13Speaker 2: not celebrating a win because I'm onto the next thing.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So I'm not very good at pausing and being in
- 7:18Speaker 2: the moment. So that's something I've been trying to do
- 7:20Speaker 2: more recently. Like, I'm very good at getting carried away
- 7:22Speaker 2: by work because I actually know what I want all
- 7:26Speaker 2: the time and I'm going to unapologetically go after it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: But I don't know how to stop and enjoy it.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And the problem when you don't stop and enjoy it
- 7:33Speaker 2: is you never even observe it, you know, digest it.
- 7:36Speaker 2: You're like, it's like you're not chewing your food properly.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally hear that.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I totally hear that. It's like, you don't want to
- 7:41Speaker 2: wait to go for a Kalana. Can be told that
- 7:43Speaker 2: you're not chewing your food right, enjoy your winds, like
- 7:46Speaker 2: have that time. Don't lose the good stuff.
- 7:49Speaker 1: That is now the episode teaser quote, yea, I don't
- 7:52Speaker 1: want to go for Kolana chewing your food? I love it?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Step two to taking back your power see yourself in control.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Visualization is really important, like super important visualization.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think like a lot of people still kind of
- 8:06Speaker 2: laugh at that, and I disagree. Everything that I've achieved
- 8:09Speaker 2: in my career, especially with Nike, came from visualization and
- 8:14Speaker 2: not without work. But if you can't see it and
- 8:17Speaker 2: you can't really believe that it might be true. I
- 8:20Speaker 2: just think that the power of when we see something,
- 8:23Speaker 2: whether or not it was like it's just in your
- 8:25Speaker 2: brain right and in your mind, whether it was in
- 8:27Speaker 2: a dream when you're asleep, when it was like just
- 8:29Speaker 2: conscious dreaming, it's so powerful because you're like you almost
- 8:33Speaker 2: get that taste of it and you're like, yeah, I
- 8:35Speaker 2: want that, Like I know what that's like now, rather
- 8:37Speaker 2: than being like I think I know what it looks like,
- 8:39Speaker 2: but I don't really know, so I'm trying to chase it. Yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 2: it's like you've seen the hot eye at the bar
- 8:43Speaker 2: and you've got the eyes on the price. Like, when
- 8:46Speaker 2: you've done that visualization of what that goal is, you're
- 8:49Speaker 2: not going to lose that from your site until til
- 8:52Speaker 2: you go after it. And one of the things that's
- 8:54Speaker 2: always guided me was that people would often very often
- 8:57Speaker 2: say to me, they're like, oh, there's no way you're
- 8:58Speaker 2: going to get that, and I'd be like, yeah, but
- 9:00Speaker 2: maybe I will. And that was always my answer. I
- 9:03Speaker 2: was just like curious, and so I would say to
- 9:05Speaker 2: people like, feel free to dream, and like it's not
- 9:08Speaker 2: up to other people to say whether or not you're
- 9:10Speaker 2: going to get something, but it's up to you to
- 9:11Speaker 2: do the work for it, right, So that's about like
- 9:14Speaker 2: having you you're in control of each and every day,
- 9:17Speaker 2: how much you want to assertively go off to things.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Pivoting to our next step that would be maintaining your standards.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think I read somewhere recently that sometimes the issue
- 9:28Speaker 1: is is that someone's ceiling is really your floor. So
- 9:32Speaker 1: when you are going for something, you can't be mad
- 9:36Speaker 1: at someone else because they're literally incapable of meeting you
- 9:39Speaker 1: where you're at. That doesn't mean that because someone else
- 9:42Speaker 1: acts that way or handles the situation that way, that
- 9:44Speaker 1: you need to change what you are capable of. You
- 9:47Speaker 1: need to own your standards. You need to be cool
- 9:50Speaker 1: with what you want, not pivot just because someone else
- 9:53Speaker 1: can't meet you where you're at.
- 9:55Speaker 2: This, I actually think is a nice time to talk
- 9:57Speaker 2: about love languages because and I I think this is
- 10:00Speaker 2: a relevant thing for you to know about your closest
- 10:02Speaker 2: people in your life. Like actually, like it sounds creepy,
- 10:05Speaker 2: but like even like people you work with, even your
- 10:07Speaker 2: best friends, like knowing what their love language is and
- 10:11Speaker 2: the way to communicate with them is going to help
- 10:13Speaker 2: a lot with that type of stuff. So, like I know,
- 10:16Speaker 2: for me, my love languages are. And this is not
- 10:18Speaker 2: me putting a dating profile up on the side, guys,
- 10:20Speaker 2: just FYI, But I know for me that words of
- 10:22Speaker 2: affirmation and quality time is super important. You're not going
- 10:25Speaker 2: to impress the pants off me with gifts physical touch.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Don't even go there. You know what is the other
- 10:31Speaker 2: word acts of service? Ext of service is kind of fine.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I think that was number three for me. But when
- 10:36Speaker 2: I know with my best friends and the people I
- 10:38Speaker 2: spend the most time with and the people that work
- 10:40Speaker 2: for me or that I work with, if I know
- 10:43Speaker 2: their love languages too and how to communicate with them,
- 10:46Speaker 2: that is a game changer for meeting people where they're
- 10:50Speaker 2: at in regards to anything. But yes, I completely agree
- 10:53Speaker 2: ceilings flaws. And another thing to talk about is safety nets,
- 10:57Speaker 2: because a safety net is another ceiling you're just waiting
- 10:59Speaker 2: if you're always kind of like not going to if
- 11:02Speaker 2: you're afraid to take the risk, and you just think
- 11:04Speaker 2: that you might just have a safety net all the time,
- 11:06Speaker 2: and it's just the same as a ceiling. You just
- 11:08Speaker 2: got to go for it, right. What's the worst that
- 11:10Speaker 2: happens if you don't get something? You learn an awesome
- 11:12Speaker 2: lesson along the way totally.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And the last way that we are taking back our
- 11:17Speaker 1: power is by honoring our truth. You know, sometimes just
- 11:20Speaker 1: because someone's doing something cool doesn't mean you have to
- 11:23Speaker 1: do it too. There's only one you. It's hard to
- 11:26Speaker 1: get to a place where you are just so incredibly
- 11:29Speaker 1: proud of you. I get it. I've been there as well.
- 11:31Speaker 1: We are all our own biggest critics, but the opportunity
- 11:36Speaker 1: to be who you are is so special.
- 11:40Speaker 2: This actually comes to the Drake lyrics I was talking about.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Hopefully it's always going to come back to Drake. You
- 11:46Speaker 2: know this with me, I do, But it talks about
- 11:49Speaker 2: the song is the Motion, one of my favorite songs.
- 11:51Speaker 2: It also it goes on to say that try being
- 11:54Speaker 2: with somebody that wants to be somebody else? Oh like
- 11:57Speaker 2: the worst and you all know, And then he goes
- 11:59Speaker 2: on to say, I always thought she was perfect when
- 12:01Speaker 2: she was being herself. Okay, So this is the problem.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Social media has allowed us to have so much additional
- 12:08Speaker 2: insight into everyone's life that I think it gets very
- 12:11Speaker 2: easy to lose a sense of self. There's nothing more
- 12:14Speaker 2: attractive than someone that is unapologetically them Like you can
- 12:17Speaker 2: actually even get away with some of your bad traits.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Like but if it's so you that it's just like
- 12:23Speaker 2: that's who they are. Like I love I have flaws.
- 12:26Speaker 2: My best friends have flaws. We actually love each other
- 12:28Speaker 2: for the flaws that we have, and we're more forgiving
- 12:30Speaker 2: of it because if they're being them and I'm being me,
- 12:33Speaker 2: not saying like it's like, hey, don't ever try and
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know, change some things. But if you don't know
- 12:38Speaker 2: yourself and their system in which you're operating, and it's
- 12:41Speaker 2: like you've got a laptop with the wrong software on
- 12:43Speaker 2: it the entire time, Like that's annoying. So like every
- 12:46Speaker 2: app that you keep adding on to it and like
- 12:48Speaker 2: program is not going to work properly because it's not
- 12:51Speaker 2: for you. So that's not how you want to operate
- 12:53Speaker 2: yourself as a human. Right, you're your own business to run.
- 12:57Speaker 2: So if you don't have your code of conduct for
- 12:59Speaker 2: you and you don't understand who you are, you're always
- 13:03Speaker 2: speaking the wrong language to yourself and you're going to
- 13:05Speaker 2: get caught out at some moment totally.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And it's just like so it's so intriguing and powerful
- 13:12Speaker 1: and invigorating to be able to stand up for yourself
- 13:15Speaker 1: and just be like, this is who I am, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I find so much comfort and confidence in that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Do you have like a team talk that you do
- 13:23Speaker 2: to yourself when you're like when if you feel like
- 13:25Speaker 2: you're starting to like sidestep a little out of line,
- 13:27Speaker 2: do you have something that that ropes you back in.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I mean, all I do is I continuously tell myself
- 13:32Speaker 1: that all it takes is all you've got every time.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I just when I try to show up somewhere, I
- 13:37Speaker 1: try to show up with everything I have, because what's
- 13:39Speaker 1: the point of showing up at all if you're not
- 13:40Speaker 1: going to give it like that?
- 13:41Speaker 2: You know, it's funny that yours is very similar to
- 13:43Speaker 2: mine because mine has always been if you want it,
- 13:45Speaker 2: go get it. Yeah, because I get frustrated with having
- 13:48Speaker 2: complacency kills me, Like it's the worst, and I get
- 13:52Speaker 2: really frustrated if I have the same repeat conversations with
- 13:55Speaker 2: people over and over again. I'm like, that's fantastic. You've
- 13:57Speaker 2: actually told me twelve times you're doing that, and it's
- 14:00Speaker 2: been three years we've like it has the still not happened.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I don't understand, like inefficiency and complacency is just upsetting.
- 14:09Speaker 2: But yeah, like if you want it like absolutely. It
- 14:12Speaker 2: is on you to like go for it and and
- 14:15Speaker 2: just give it everything everything.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Thanks for rapping about energy with me, Christie always.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Next time we'll try to bring in drake.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You can split the drake. You're welcome in the studio
- 14:23Speaker 1: whenever you want. If you need us, you know how
- 14:25Speaker 1: to find us at Emily a Body, at Hurdle podcasts
