- 0:00Speaker 1: The Taylor Swift wedding Madison Square Garden. You remember you
- 0:04Speaker 1: kept hearing a million, two million. All sorts of people
- 0:09Speaker 1: are now saying it was more like thirty million, the
- 0:11Speaker 1: whole thing. Thirty million for the wedding. Yeah, apparently even
- 0:18Speaker 1: the flowers. The flowers in decor were five million, you know,
- 0:25Speaker 1: like real flowers, real trees, all this stuff. So all
- 0:27Speaker 1: of that was five million. Now the average wedding in America.
- 0:32Speaker 1: How much you think the average wedding costs in America?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Now I'm not sing about New York City and a ballroom.
- 0:39Speaker 1: The average wedding costs in America thirty four thousand. So
- 0:42Speaker 1: this would have been about thirty million, five million florals
- 0:45Speaker 1: in decors. Catering was about two point five million, eleven
- 0:52Speaker 1: hundred guests. But they didn't just have a caterer come
- 0:55Speaker 1: in and just catered that. They wanted all kinds of
- 0:57Speaker 1: special things. There's a special Zirella place they had to
- 1:01Speaker 1: get it from there. There's they wanted a certain pizza
- 1:05Speaker 1: for the the cocktail party, and they got that. So hey,
- 1:09Speaker 1: oh we got Roger Freeman. We'll get back to that.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Roger Freeman, the Great Entertainment reporter. Showbiz for one one
- 1:16Speaker 1: dot com is his website. Check it out every day
- 1:19Speaker 1: Showbiz for one one dot com. Roger Friedman, how you doing?
- 1:23Speaker 2: There are so many listeners that when I don't come
- 1:26Speaker 2: on on time, I start to get messages why aren't
- 1:29Speaker 2: you on?
- 1:30Speaker 1: No?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Why aren't you on? They can't find Roger Friedman. Uh.
- 1:35Speaker 1: You know why I am excited today the new Rolling
- 1:37Speaker 1: Stones album comes out. You know why it means so
- 1:40Speaker 1: much to me?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:41Speaker 1: It is because down the haholl Q and O four
- 1:43Speaker 1: in honor of this, they got buffets all over the place.
- 1:45Speaker 1: There's so much food. Really, yes, celebrating this.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I should come right over.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you what. It's a great album. It's
- 1:54Speaker 2: called Foreign Tongues and the Stones marketing people have done
- 1:59Speaker 2: an amazing job. There's so many hit singles on it.
- 2:04Speaker 2: There's a song called Mister Charm that everyone's going to
- 2:07Speaker 2: go crazy for. There's fourteen songs and they've never sounded better.
- 2:13Speaker 2: This is the craziest thing, you know. This is their
- 2:16Speaker 2: sixty second year in business and they've never sounded better.
- 2:20Speaker 2: They put on just Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger put
- 2:25Speaker 2: on a little show. The other night in London in
- 2:27Speaker 2: like a coffee cocktail thing where they played you Can't
- 2:31Speaker 2: Always Get what you Want and a couple of the
- 2:33Speaker 2: new songs and you know it just played them acoustically
- 2:36Speaker 2: and they sounded fresher than ever. So it's amazing, better
- 2:41Speaker 2: than ever. It's really crazy. Yeah. You know, some people
- 2:45Speaker 2: are having trouble keeping their voices or getting their voices back,
- 2:49Speaker 2: and Mick Jaggers had no problems whatsoever. He just keeps
- 2:54Speaker 2: doing it and he's not being augmented it anyway, because
- 2:57Speaker 2: he was live the other night in this little you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: coffee thing and cocktail thing and he sounds great. So
- 3:06Speaker 2: I don't know how they're doing it. You know, this
- 3:08Speaker 2: was a group known for drugs and now they're known
- 3:10Speaker 2: for vitamins. Wow, so you know they know what they're doing.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, they always have these things, you know, how to
- 3:16Speaker 1: live longer, what you should eat, how you should can
- 3:18Speaker 1: maintain what health nutrition. These guys prove all of that wrong,
- 3:21Speaker 1: all of them.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Well, Keith certainly did have problems for a long time,
- 3:28Speaker 2: although now he's very clean and sort of you know,
- 3:31Speaker 2: he espouses you know, good living. He's in New York,
- 3:35Speaker 2: so he didn't go to the Linden thing. Nick was
- 3:39Speaker 2: never a big druggie and he's always been into exercise,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and look how lean and mean he is. But they're
- 3:47Speaker 2: terrific and they're going to have the number one album
- 3:50Speaker 2: by the end of the day and everyone should get it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I tell you, I love this song, mister charm I.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I really think that's going to be a big hit.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And they've got seven tracks this morning on the iTunes
- 4:04Speaker 2: Top one hundred, which is crazy. That's completely crazy.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Now, how do you compare it to the new Paul
- 4:10Speaker 1: McCartney album.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You know, they're both produced by this guy, Andrew Watt,
- 4:15Speaker 2: who also works with Lady Gaga and is a very
- 4:18Speaker 2: talented producer and he knows how to get the best
- 4:21Speaker 2: out of all these people. The Paul McCartney album is
- 4:24Speaker 2: also very very good. Dungeon Lane, Boys of Dungeon Lane.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm enjoying all the tracks on it. There's one called
- 4:31Speaker 2: Loss to Horizon be a single. And you know, these
- 4:36Speaker 2: guys are really they're proving themselves this summer. Even Madonna
- 4:42Speaker 2: has a gigantic kid with her Confessions album. Carly Simon's
- 4:47Speaker 2: coming with a big her first album in eighteen years
- 4:50Speaker 2: in August. Yes, no, there's a song now on that
- 4:53Speaker 2: she's put out on YouTube called Howell. That's maybe one
- 4:57Speaker 2: of the best songs she's ever written. So there's a
- 5:00Speaker 2: renaissance here. These guys are all reclaiming their legacies and
- 5:05Speaker 2: it's fun to watch.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So why all of a sudden this year, Why all
- 5:10Speaker 1: of a sudden, now did they all come up?
- 5:12Speaker 2: I think all of a sudden they all looked around
- 5:14Speaker 2: and said, you know, these young people do not have
- 5:16Speaker 2: staying power, and we can do it. Also, the young
- 5:19Speaker 2: acts like Taylor Swift always cites Carly Simon as one
- 5:22Speaker 2: of her influences. The rock bands all you know, everybody
- 5:26Speaker 2: cites Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones. And I think
- 5:29Speaker 2: that these groups know that they have a responsibility to show,
- 5:33Speaker 2: you know, what it is that being talked about and
- 5:35Speaker 2: being heralded so much. We'll see more of it before
- 5:39Speaker 2: the end of the year. All right, it's nice. They
- 5:42Speaker 2: are real musicians and they're also playing real music. You know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: there's a lot of AI on the charts right now.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Spotify is trying to weed out the AI songs. That's
- 5:53Speaker 2: a big problem on streaming. There's a lot of fake stuff,
- 5:56Speaker 2: so the real thing. I heard last night bonjo he
- 6:00Speaker 2: played the Madison Square Garden and I was coming home
- 6:03Speaker 2: on the train and I heard these people all raving
- 6:06Speaker 2: about the show. And he's gotten his voice back. He's
- 6:09Speaker 2: better than ever. Paul McCartney was in the audience, so
- 6:14Speaker 2: even Bon Jovi, he's having this big, you know, renaissance.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So you know, and I'm hoping that we'll see Steven
- 6:21Speaker 2: Tyler and Aerosmith at some point, but oh no, I
- 6:26Speaker 2: love Steven Tyler. I'd love to hear them come back.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But it's great, you know, it's just great, and the
- 6:34Speaker 2: songs mean something to people. You know, Chicago Saturday in
- 6:40Speaker 2: the Park fourth, you know, it was the fourth of July.
- 6:43Speaker 2: This past fourth of July was the first and last
- 6:46Speaker 2: Saturday that July fourth has hit on in years, and
- 6:49Speaker 2: it won't come back til twenty thirty seven. It sent
- 6:52Speaker 2: the song Saturday in the Park up to number one
- 6:54Speaker 2: on iTunes for the day, which was really funny. I'm
- 6:57Speaker 2: sure the group got a good laugh out of that. Yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 2: so you know, everything's rocking. Everybody's good. I saw a
- 7:04Speaker 2: great Broadway show last night which was Smiga.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Doing Oh well, everybody's raving about.
- 7:11Speaker 2: That doing everyone's raving. I finally, you know, I sort
- 7:15Speaker 2: of passed it up when it was first opening because
- 7:17Speaker 2: I thought, oh, it's like that TV show they had.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Wait a minute, there was an opening you didn't go to.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I don't believe I didn't go to it.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I think I went to some movie thing and I said,
- 7:26Speaker 2: I was smiggerding. I'll catch up with it. Of course,
- 7:28Speaker 2: I won the Tony Award, and I finally saw it
- 7:32Speaker 2: last night, and I got to tell you it's completely
- 7:35Speaker 2: sold out. It's absolutely hilarious. Uh it's a send up
- 7:39Speaker 2: of all the Rogers and Hammerstein and all the classic
- 7:42Speaker 2: musicals you know from the forties and fifties. But it's
- 7:45Speaker 2: very clever. And the audience, I got to say, the audience,
- 7:49Speaker 2: you know some I don't often sit in an audience
- 7:51Speaker 2: with completely where I don't know anybody. I have to say,
- 7:54Speaker 2: this was a cross section of America. It was every size, shape, color, gender, everything,
- 8:02Speaker 2: and they loved it. They were they were The applause
- 8:06Speaker 2: was thunderous. And this was on a Thursday night with
- 8:08Speaker 2: regular people. So it shows you the shows I.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Hit, Yeah, no, but for you, you always go to the
- 8:14Speaker 1: opening where the whole audience is your fellow jaded media elitist.
- 8:17Speaker 1: This was an actual real people.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Or investors who put money into the show. So of
- 8:24Speaker 2: course they're flapping very loudly. But last night it was
- 8:27Speaker 2: just like I'm telling you. I was waiting with an
- 8:29Speaker 2: I was waiting for a friend with one of the
- 8:31Speaker 2: ushers in the lobby, and we're seeing the people pour
- 8:35Speaker 2: in from the outside line, and I said, gee, this
- 8:37Speaker 2: really is This is everyone that you can't beat it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's so hysterical. That's a great thing about Broadway. It's
- 8:45Speaker 2: very egalitarian. It's not uh it's it's not a stuffy place.
- 8:50Speaker 2: It's you see everything and everyone. People on walkers, wheelchairs, burneys.
- 8:55Speaker 2: They're coming, you know, they'll they'll come in any form. Well,
- 8:58Speaker 2: it is Broadways kind of designed for tourists nowadays.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean that gets well, No.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think there are a lot of There were a
- 9:03Speaker 2: lot of New Yorkers. I heard a lot of New
- 9:05Speaker 2: York accents on the line. So no, there were a
- 9:08Speaker 2: lot of New Yorkers waiting to get inside.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But they're from Long Island. That counts as tourists.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Now, those are the tourists from the Upper West Side.
- 9:14Speaker 2: They're from the Upper West Side, where people shouldn't be from.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Those are the investors, you know, those investors that go yeahs,
- 9:25Speaker 1: those rich housewives that infest so we only get a
- 9:30Speaker 1: few seconds. Broadway overall is doing well, isn't it.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's doing pretty good. You know. There are a
- 9:37Speaker 2: few shows closed, but they were they were not shows
- 9:39Speaker 2: that were meant to be. And there's a lot of
- 9:42Speaker 2: stuff that's booming and a lot of stuff coming this
- 9:44Speaker 2: fall that's going to be very hot. So Broadway never dies.
- 9:49Speaker 2: They always say Broadway's dying. It's over yeah, and always
- 9:53Speaker 2: rallies when the new season starts.
- 9:55Speaker 1: That's good to hear. It's very important for New York.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Well.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Roger Freeman, great stuff. Thanks for all the updates on
- 10:01Speaker 1: all the music at the Stones new album, and get
