Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome back to Let's Talk Trail Running.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Robert Prosser.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: This time I'll be coming to you live from an undisclosed location.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I am no longer in Colorado Springs.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I'm on deployment right now.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: So that's going to make things,
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: hence why I wasn't able to do a Calamar Sky Race pre-race prediction.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: But on today's episode, I am going to give you my picks.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit too late.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: As I look at it, there's only about eight hours left.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But I will kind of give you a quick...
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Just probably who I've got picked for my top five.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: But more importantly, I want to talk about Gorge Waterfalls 100K and 50K.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: The 100K will be the U.S.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: long trail qualifier for this year, which is very, very exciting.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: As you would expect,
- 0:50it's going to attract quite a robust and dense race list of
- 0:57competition for the top
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: 10 on both sides.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I know there's some speculation,
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: not speculation,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: but really discussion about Gorge and whether it's like a
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: proper world qualifier.
- 1:09I think it's really tough to find anything that's mountainous
- 1:11or steep this early
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: in the season and pick a proper team compared to Europe,
- 1:16maybe Spain that has more mountainous races that you can race
- 1:20earlier in the season.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But with that being said, I think it's an awesome race to choose.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: And I think that it having a large race quantity,
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: like the number of racers that it can infield,
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: that's what I'm trying to go for,
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: makes it valuable for
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: being a world qualifier.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to say Gorge.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I think Gorge has a cool history.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I'm stoked that Daybreak got the nomination for the world qualifier.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we'll talk about that in a bit.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: In the meantime, yeah, so some housekeeping.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Big news, like I said, I am currently on deployment.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So that's going to make things a little different.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I have one day off and that's what I'm recording this on.
- 1:59And I'll probably from the time forward kind of keep recording
- 2:03on my days off
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Right now, I don't have my mic.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So hopefully the audio quality is good and holds up.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that's kind of what's up with me.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Was in transit.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That's kind of why I wasn't able to get the Calamaro preview out in time.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So my apologies for that.
- 2:19And just kind of adjusting to some life changes and getting
- 2:23used to my first
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: deployment and working kind of a night shift and
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And being a night owl, essentially I sleep from like 2 to 10 p.m.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: and then I'm up for the rest of the day.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So that's definitely a big adjustment for me.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so that's the first thing.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: The second thing is since I last spoke with you guys,
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I got to race the big Alta 28K and Caitlin raced the 50K big Alta.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: I can't say enough things about it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I can't speak highly enough about it basically is what I'm trying to say.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It's a gorgeous race.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It's a gorgeous time of year.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: The vibes were awesome.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: The people were awesome.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: The racing was awesome.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It was just a great time.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Caitlin and Kat,
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: which is Caitlin's friend,
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: they both did their first 50K race and finished,
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: had a great time.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: So I crewed Caitlin.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I was out there for the 50K.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: But to be honest,
- 3:11I didn't see a lot of the lead pack other than just the
- 3:15beginning of the race
- 3:16because I was kind of working with Caitlin's dad to get to and
- 3:19from the different
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: crew stations.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And because he lived so close, we were going back to his house
- 3:24um to do some stuff in between seeing caitlin at aid stations
- 3:27so i didn't really
- 3:27see too much of the lead race i pretty much was just crew and
- 3:30caitlin the whole
- 3:30time um caitlin and cat as well and then on the sunday was the
- 3:36race uh the 28k that
- 3:38i raced um and it went it went so so freaking well i was super
- 3:42stoked um raced i
- 3:44don't really know what i expected i i think i based off last
- 3:47year's times i was
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: looking um
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: to go somewhere around 215.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And I ended up racing 209 and snuck into 10th place,
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: passed somebody maybe with about two to three miles to go.
- 4:00And then really just bombed the last couple of downhill miles
- 4:04and raced a really awesome race.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I had such a blast.
- 4:06It's the first time I've really felt the advantage of living
- 4:09and training at
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: altitude in Colorado Springs and then coming to sea level.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: It's the best I've ever felt on climbs.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And then I just really, really unleashed it on my legs for the descent.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: strangely enough,
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: it wasn't my quads that were sore is more kind of like the outside of my,
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: um,
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: like butt or hip,
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: like kind of like my glute medius area,
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Um, that was really what was the most sore.
- 4:28Um,
- 4:28but yeah,
- 4:28I mean,
- 4:29it was,
- 4:29it was an amazing race and I was really stoked.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I even had some,
- 4:33I had one or two segments on the downhills at the end where I
- 4:36think I even like had
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: one where I was ahead of Eli Hemming,
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: who obviously he was racing the 50 K.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: but I had some top 10 segments,
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I think like a third and a fifth place or fifth and a seven,
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: something like that.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Um, and I was really, really stoked.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I had a really, really awesome race.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: It was a blast, um, exceeded every expectation I could have had.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: and then the other cool thing too,
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: is not only did I race in a 10th place,
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: but for the picks on the 28K,
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: I got 11th place.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: So I raced and finished 10th place.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Could have got myself fantasy points.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: If I picked myself, I didn't have that much faith in myself.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: And then, uh, got 11th place on the picks.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um, shout out to Travis Longcar.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I messaged him jokingly saying, do I get an award?
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Uh,
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Um, but then, yeah, it was really cool.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And,
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: he told me to go see harmony for a little,
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: a little gift and,
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: yeah,
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: and got some free trail swag.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: and also at the race,
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I was wearing some free trail sleeves and the new free trail race kit,
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: the factory race kit,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: both of which highly,
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: highly recommend.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I think the sleeves are back in stock.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Um, they were awesome.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And then the factory race kit is super breathable,
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: super comfortable and the colors are cool too.
- 5:35Um,
- 5:35so I wore the more light blue one,
- 5:37uh,
- 5:37as opposed to like the forest green one.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and it was awesome for the day.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: So
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Big Alta, super stoked on that.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And then on top of that too,
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: I snuck into,
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I think I was in second place in the overall points after Big Alta,
- 5:50but I think we just had another race recently and that bumped
- 5:53me back to third.
- 5:54But either way,
- 5:55solidly in the top 10,
- 5:56yeah,
- 5:57Tenerife Blue Trail,
- 5:58excuse me.
- 6:00And that's another thing too,
- 6:01I guess I forgot to talk about Tenerife Blue Trail.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: I wasn't as intrigued by Tenerife.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: I didn't feel like I had much to say.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I would have liked to talk about Calamaro.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I feel like I had more to say about Calamaro.
- 6:12so yeah that's kind of that's kind of where we're at i'm still
- 6:14going to try to
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: record and try to get these a week out early so
- 6:17um you know this week gorge preview next weekend i'm looking to
- 6:21do first golden
- 6:22trail series of the year kobe trail looking to do that preview
- 6:26and then looking
- 6:27forward it'll be canyons uh in madeira on the same weekend and
- 6:32then great wall too
- 6:33which is a golden trail so i'm thinking that that weekend will
- 6:36probably be a
- 6:38two-parter i'll do canyons uh in one half and then madeira and
- 6:42the great wall in
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: the other half
- 6:44um so that's kind of what i'm looking forward to um yeah so
- 6:47just kind of getting
- 6:48used to to being out here um kind of been a change change of
- 6:52pace for sure but
- 6:54super excited to be back to podcasting and back to recording so
- 6:58that's kind of
- 6:58where we're at and so real quick i just want to go over i'm
- 7:02gonna mention i imagine
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: by the time anyone listens to this it'll probably be too little too late
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: But I'll kind of mention who I'm looking at for my top five on Calamaro.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: If you get to hear this in time, maybe it helps you.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: If not, then you can just skip over this part.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: So on the men's side,
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: top five,
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at Luca Delpero for the win,
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Roberto Di Lorenzi for second,
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Alejandro Forcatas for third,
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: EUNET for fourth,
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: and Lorenzo Rota for fifth.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: On the considerations for men,
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I had Alon Santamaria up there in my top five,
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: but he was a scratch.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And then I would also be on the lookout for Nico Molina.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I think Morgan Elliott will go somewhere in the five through 10 spot.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Luis Puigvert, I would also look out for.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of some of my considerations.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Roberto won the course last year.
- 7:48But Lucas seems to just be in really,
- 7:50really good shape and really good fitness.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: So.
- 7:53um that's kind of my thoughts on that uh race on the women's
- 7:58side I've got in one
- 8:01through five first place Marta Martinez coming off of her win
- 8:04and the Consolados
- 8:06del Norte uh Lide I'm not even gonna try to say her last name
- 8:09but Lide in second
- 8:10place Denise Dragomir in third place Nayara Irigoyen in fourth
- 8:16place and Ariadna
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Fennes in fifth place
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: had Daniela,
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: we miss,
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: the German athlete,
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Nike,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: um,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: who races a lot of golden trail,
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: had her up there in my top five,
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: but she was a drop.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: and then other people to look out for,
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I think Iris Pesci will be somewhere in the five through 10.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: She's really consistent racer.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure there's got to be some Spanish woman that I'm missing.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Patricia Pineda potentially.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: That's kind of, yeah, I feel a little bit more decent about those picks.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I had to guess.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: I think there's going to be a lot of Spanish women in the top five.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So I think if you've got fewer than three, you're probably incorrect.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's just real quick my Calamar Skyrace picks.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: And moving on to Gorge, I'm going to talk about the 50K first.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's quite as deep.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And then because, well, it isn't quite as deep because it's not the U.S.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: qualifier.
- 9:09So I'm going to talk about the 50K first and then we'll get on
- 9:11to the main,
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I might say the main event,
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: but we'll get on to the U.S.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: qualifier, which is the 100K.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: So Gorge 50K.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: I put on my daybreak.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: It's in Cascade Lots, Oregon.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Seems like it can be a really sloppy,
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: muddy type of race and just seems like a good time as well.
- 9:30Did my first daybreak racing event with Big Alta and I cannot
- 9:33speak highly enough
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: about Big Alta and also Jeremy Long,
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: the co-founder slash owner of Daybreak.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: He was extremely quick to communicate with me.
- 9:42I actually initially pulled out a big also 28k because I
- 9:44thought I was going to
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: have to deploy before I could race,
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: be able to race it.
- 9:48And then so I pull myself out and then I asked to put myself
- 9:52back in and he both
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: times responded immediately and got me back in.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: So I thanked him about as quickly as I could.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but it was really awesome.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Super responsive, super awesome race organizer and super cool races.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So with that being said, course 50 K on the women's side.
- 10:07Um,
- 10:07some people to look out for,
- 10:09uh,
- 10:09just reading names off the list to begin with.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: So Rachel Lemke,
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Sarah Alaban,
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Christina Randrup,
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Melissa Ostaszewski,
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Taylor Bacon,
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: nice last name,
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Chrissy Lofgren,
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Courtney Boucher and Amy Sturgill.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: So that's on the woman's side.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Um, looking at these 50 K racers,
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: The race isn't open to make your picks yet.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So I haven't per se picked a one through five.
- 10:33I'm going to talk about each and then I'll kind of pick them
- 10:35off the top of my head
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: if I had to guess.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: It's a little bit easier when I can put the picks in,
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: but right now,
- 10:40just for the sake of time and because this is the only time I
- 10:42think I can record
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: the podcast in a timely manner,
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I will make my picks,
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: but I don't feel like they'll be as ironclad as if we could make them,
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: as if they were open to being picked yet on the website.
- 10:55Yeah,
- 10:58so looking at those names,
- 10:59so Rachel Lemke,
- 11:01she was in Colorado Springs.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: She's friends with Hannah Allgood, who I run with sometimes.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Recently moved to Montana, Rachel did.
- 11:08And this year she got second at Behind the Rocks,
- 11:1130K,
- 11:11fourth at Way Too Cool,
- 11:1350K.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Last year got seventh at Gorge, 100K.
- 11:15So she has that course familiarity,
- 11:17knows the course and has run it before.
- 11:18And then,
- 11:20although that was 100K,
- 11:21I guess,
- 11:22and then third the year before.
- 11:23And then she's also got fifth place at Run Robert Run and 10th
- 11:26at Broken Arrow.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: uh, in her past.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: So definitely no stranger to trail racing,
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: originally from the East coast transplant to,
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: the West and Colorado Springs.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: And then most recently, I think Bozeman, Montana.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Next one up,
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Sarah Alaban,
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: 19th at Black Canyon this year,
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: third at Big Alta 50K in 2024,
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: and second at Run Rock 50K in 2023.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: I don't have much to say other than her results.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: First came across her name when she got third at Big Alta.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I'm curious to see what she can do in this race.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Next one up is Christina Randrup.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: She's a Brooks athlete.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: She's from the Pacific Northwest.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure getting her PhD in something smart and science-y.
- 12:05She also came across my radar for the first time when she got
- 12:07second at 50K for Big
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Alta last year.
- 12:11More recently,
- 12:11she's won McDowell 50 miler at the end of last year in Arizona.
- 12:15She got third at the Squamish 50 miler last year and third also
- 12:19at Gorge 100K last year.
- 12:21um she was eighth at lake sonoma 50 miler in 2023 when it was
- 12:25the u.s world's team
- 12:27qualifier so not her first uh excuse me this is not the u.s
- 12:31qualifier that she's
- 12:31racing in but um she has raced in a u.s qualifier before next
- 12:35one up is melissa
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: ostazewski she's a nike athlete um and
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, her and her sister, Sarah do lots of different cool types of racing.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Um, she's gotten 35th at black Canyon this year.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Uh,
- 12:50last year she won the saddles 50 miler fifth at high lonesome
- 12:52100 miler and fifth
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: at the Wasatch 100 miler.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Um, also looking, so, uh, next name on the list, Taylor bacon.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: She got third at run rabbit run 50 miler and first at never summer 60 K.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: So kind of a sleeper pick,
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: um,
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: The 50-mile for Run Rabbit Run isn't typically as competitive.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: But, yeah, not a bad result at all.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: And with a cool last name like Bacon, I feel like anything is possible.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Other people to look out for on the women's list, I've got three left.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Chrissy Lofgren, 7th at Pikes Peak Marathon last year.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: That's all I put.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: And then Courtney Boucher, now we're somewhere 60K 5th in 2024.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: And Quadrac, 25-miler 3rd in 2023.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Another name, Amy Sturgill.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: She got eighth at the big all at the 28K just recently.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: And then sixth at Marin Ultra Challenge, 50K last year.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So if I had to look at these 50K and make a top five pick for the women,
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: I'd probably go Christina Randrup in first place,
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Sarah Alabin in second,
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Rachel Lemke in third,
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: and maybe Chrissy Lofgren in third.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: fourth, and Melissa Ostaszewski in fifth.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: That's my tentative picks for right now.
- 14:08On the men's side of the race,
- 14:09not a ton of names that I had written down.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Big ones to stand out are going to be Liam Miro.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: He's the Nike trail athlete, super speedy guy.
- 14:18He's gotten,
- 14:19let's see,
- 14:19second in the 30K last year and then won the 30K the year before.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Last year, he lost it to Matt Daniels.
- 14:25The only thing I have for a question mark for Liam is he's only
- 14:28done one at 50K and
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: it was Y East and he got fourth.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: to Alex King, Blake Slatton, Grant, and Jeffrey Stern.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: He doesn't have a lot of ultra experience.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: He's super-duper fast.
- 14:38He's definitely,
- 14:39if I had to guess,
- 14:40the most talented runner in the field.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: I think he's got a sub-four minute.
- 14:43mile under his belt i'm not exactly sure how fast but he
- 14:46doesn't have a ton of 50k
- 14:48experience so i think uh he's probably the hands down favorite
- 14:52other named cameron
- 14:53yeaman uh 15 at 15th at run the rut 50k and 609 which is a
- 14:58pretty fast time for
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: that course and fifth at black and 60k last year other names matt leanaw
- 15:0620th at Canyons 50K last year,
- 15:07which was a speedy one,
- 15:08and 4th at Never Summer 100K in 23.
- 15:11We have a couple of Canadians to look out for,
- 15:13Mike Siddick and Marcus Rebe.
- 15:16Mike Siddick got 16th at Checkernut this year,
- 15:19so that's his most recent race I saw.
- 15:21But in his history,
- 15:22he's won the Squamish 50-Miler in 2021,
- 15:24and he's also won D-Vista in 2019.
- 15:27Those are both big,
- 15:30excuse me,
- 15:31British Columbia races and good markers of some Canadian speed.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Marcus Ribby is also a fast Canadian.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: He got first at Suamish 50 miler last year in a time,
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I think it was like 719 or seven something.
- 15:44Uh,
- 15:45it would have been the fastest time,
- 15:46but apparently they changed the course.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Um, but he beat everyone pretty soundly.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that's more competitive race up there.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: He got second at the Quebec mega trail 50 K and a close,
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: close battle with Eric LaPuma,
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: like less than a minute on a four hour race.
- 15:59Um,
- 15:59so they were going back and forth and we know Eric LaPuma is a
- 16:01fit boy.
- 16:02And then he got first a D-Vista 50K and a course record first
- 16:05under four hours in
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: an event that's been around since 1997.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: When I used to run in Florida,
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: the guy,
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: one of the guys who got me into ultra running,
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Andy Nickel,
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: he told me about D-Vista 50K.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: And it's kind of been a staple there.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: It's been going on since like I mentioned 1997.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: It's had people like Gary Robbins,
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: a lot of really good British Columbian runners come through,
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: and nobody had ever gone under four hours.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: And he went like 350 and won it last year.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: So I think he's definitely somebody to look out for.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Other names to include Nick De La Rosa.
- 16:37He just raced Chuck and I and got 40th,
- 16:3824th at Broken Arrow,
- 16:3946K last year.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: And he...
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: He's a Barkley finisher.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: And then on top of that, we got David Yausling, my boy from Boise.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Just wanted to shout him out and wish him luck.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: But I could see him going top 10 in this, honestly, as well.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: So on the men's side, I've had to go.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I think my first pick would be between Marcus Ribby and Liam Miro.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Liam's probably faster, but Marcus has better race experience.
- 17:06I think I might lean towards Marcus just because the limited
- 17:09sample size of Liam
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: and a 50K and figuring out fueling and things like that.
- 17:13don't know but it is on his home trails I could go I could
- 17:17really go either I'll
- 17:17probably flip-flop him until the end I'll probably go with race
- 17:20experience right
- 17:20now so I'll go Marcus in first Liam in second uh and then I'd
- 17:25probably go Mike
- 17:25Siddick in third and uh Cam Yeaman in fourth and Matt Lena in
- 17:34fifth um so that's it
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: for the men's
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: 50K, like I said, not quite as deep on either side for the gorge, 50K.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: But on the 100K, it is going to be very, very deep.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So let me pull up my notes for the 100K.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: So for the 100K, we're going to start off with the females.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Just looking through some of the names real quick, we've got...
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Claire Rhodes,
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Michelle Bunke,
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Shea Aquilano,
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Barrett Gray,
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Colleen Sands,
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Jane Mouse,
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Addie Bracey,
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Lauren Puritz,
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Jade Bellsberg,
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Robin Lesch,
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Corinne Chavoy,
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Amy Rusiecki,
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Hannah Rowe,
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: and that is everyone that I have on the women's side.
- 18:23for the 100k like i said is the one is the long trail qualifier
- 18:27for the u.s team
- 18:29for the upcoming race this year which is going to take place in
- 18:31spain it's going to
- 18:32take place um where is it oh i'm blanking i looked to race
- 18:38there last year i'll
- 18:40think of it uh but it's going to take a place in a very very
- 18:42mountainous region of
- 18:43spain so that's very very exciting and uh from my understanding
- 18:47i think the the
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: long course is going to have like
- 18:5020k vert in a 50 miler so it is going to be quite impressive um
- 18:55with regards to
- 18:56that so yes uh top two i think we'll get the the auto bid if
- 19:03i'm not mistaken and
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: then um i think they also leave spots open for resume i know there's a
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: That should be curious.
- 19:14But yeah,
- 19:15top two,
- 19:15I believe,
- 19:15go to the US team,
- 19:17get an auto qualifier if they are top two.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: So with that being said,
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: looking at this female list,
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Claire Rhodes,
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: I think we've already established from previous podcasts,
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: big,
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: big fan of hers.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: North Face athlete from Alaska and just a super consistent up and coming,
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: really talented runner.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: And I'm really excited to see.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: I think she's got a very bright future in the sport.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: She's just consistently been getting better and better.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: I just talked about her last or two weeks ago at Chuckanut.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: She got second at Chuckanut.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: And I think I had her either second or third.
- 19:47uh in my picks so i wasn't surprised by that at all she got
- 19:50second at kodiak 50k
- 19:51last year uh run the ruck course record last year second broken
- 19:55arrow 46k last year
- 19:57and then she's made a world team in austria she doesn't have
- 20:00any 100ks under her
- 20:02belt though so i'd say that's the only thing working against
- 20:03her but the races that
- 20:05she's done have been really difficult and a lot of those 50ks
- 20:08are much much longer
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: than your typical 50k
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I have a lot of faith, even though she's got no 100Ks.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: And then her partner,
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Tracy Knopp,
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: who we'll talk about later,
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: has raced 50K,
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: excuse me,
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: 100Ks,
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: and she's crewed them.
- 20:23So I imagine he has lots of good advice for her and that she
- 20:26will do plenty well.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Looking at next name on the list,
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Michelle Bunke won Kodiak 100K last year and Mount Hood 50-miler as well.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: She got 13th at CCC in 2023 and raced Gorge in 2022 to 7th place.
- 20:39And it looks like she's sponsored by Speedland,
- 20:41or at least that's what her page says.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Shea Aquilano is in... This next one I'll talk about.
- 20:49So she just is coming off a sixth at Black Canyon this year in
- 20:52an awesome time.
- 20:54She had a previous sixth,
- 20:54and this year it was 15 minutes faster than her previous sixth place.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: I think she was around like 8.53, if I'm not mistaken.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I feel like this course really suits her.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: She's kind of good at... She runs a lot of 100Ks, honestly, longer stuff.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Depending on how sloppy...
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: the course gets based off the reins,
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: that might work to her disadvantage,
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: but also has 11th at Canyons 100K last year,
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: and she made the US team in 2023,
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: so she'll be looking to be a repeat
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: U.S.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: team member for the long trail.
- 21:24Barrett Gray's next one on the list,
- 21:25she got third at Run Rabbit Run 100 last year.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: I think she beat out Leah Yangling, if I'm not mistaken.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Eighth at Broken Arrow, 46K, and she minded DNF'd at Chuckanut.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure we talked about her at Chuckanut,
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: and I didn't see her name on the finish list,
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: but it's tough because Chuckanut doesn't get reported on Ultra Signup.
- 21:43Well,
- 21:44it sometimes gets reported on Ultra Signup,
- 21:45but it doesn't get reported on UTMB,
- 21:48and then
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I have to go dig in ultrarunning.com results.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: And also a recent Brooks athlete for Bear Gray.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Next one on the list is Colleen Sands.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: She's a New Englander from New Hampshire with some pretty good results.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: She won Bandera 100K last year and was second at Vermont 100K.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: And she also races some of those like Sun to Peace Scramble type events.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: So somebody to look out for there.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Could be a sleeper pick.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Jane Moss is the next one I want to talk about.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: She is a La Sportiva athlete,
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: second at Javalino 100K last year to,
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: blanking on the name,
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Flowers,
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: I want to say,
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: from Colorado Springs.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: A very speedy woman that Hannah says is very speedy.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 22:27and then she also got second at Never Summer 100K last year and
- 22:31seventh at Broken
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Arrow 46K in 2022.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: She also won a Quad Rock 50 in 2022.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: So Jane Moss, uh, I haven't been too familiar with her.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I think mainly just cause I haven't seen her race as much recently.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: but it seems like she's been in the sport for a long time,
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: um,
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: and has a lot of Sportiva sponsorship,
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: and has some good results under her name.
- 22:52uh addy bracy's next one on the list she's made from my
- 22:54understanding i think
- 22:55multiple u.s teams um and then i know we talked about her
- 23:00earlier in the year i
- 23:01feel like her name was on the start list for b for black canyon
- 23:03but she didn't have
- 23:04a finish um i don't need to talk too much about her results
- 23:08she's a nike athlete
- 23:09she's been in the sport for a long time i feel like there's not
- 23:11a lot of stuff
- 23:12recently that favors her but she has been a very very good
- 23:15athlete for a very long
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: time so
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Next one to look out for,
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Lauren Puritz,
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: eighth at Black Canyon,
- 23:22although she did mention that she's dealing with some injury
- 23:24stuff coming off of
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Black Canyon.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Third at Javelina 100 miler last year just out of the golden ticket,
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: and then she did get a golden ticket the year before at Black Canyon.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: So what's the third place finish?
- 23:38Next one,
- 23:38and somebody I think definitely to look out for is Jade Bellsberg.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: She is coming off the win at Chuckanut, and she likes to race U.S.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: qualifiers just for the competition.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: I think that this race is right in her wheelhouse.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: She'll be coming down from Canada with her partner,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Nicodemus De La Rosa,
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: and I think that she is going to have
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: a good race.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I think that even though she can't qualify for the team,
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: I could see her being in the top three,
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: maybe even that top two qualifying spot.
- 24:04So I could potentially see the US spot rolling down to third
- 24:10place because Jade
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: could have finished in those top three,
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: honestly.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Next person on the list to look out for,
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: and somebody that I'm excited and I think is kind of a sleeper pick,
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: maybe not as well known,
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: is Robin Lesch.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: She has a lot of international racing under her belt.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: She's sponsored by Vibram.
- 24:26And she just has quietly kind of been getting better and better
- 24:28and racking up some really,
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: really good results.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: She got a third at Black Canyon 50K this year, so in a speedy field.
- 24:35And then she got third at JFK last year,
- 24:37just behind the two women that won the course record.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Rachel
- 24:42rachel drake excuse me and mary denholm and then uh she won
- 24:48spigo 28k last year and
- 24:51sixth then speedy canyons 50k last year as well with a lot of
- 24:55fast women up there
- 24:56she also raced tara where 50k got third and keontae 50k got
- 24:59sixth and a sky race or
- 25:01two i think she had like meet the minotaur or something like
- 25:03that um and had a top
- 25:06five result so she's super versatile she can run the fat flask
- 25:09fat stuff like
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: excuse me
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Fast,
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: flat stuff like JFK,
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: third at JFK,
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: and she can run the really mountainous stuff,
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: wanting speed to go 28K or getting top five in a sky race or,
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: yeah,
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: things like that.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: So I think she's a really versatile athlete,
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: and I feel like she could have a really good day out here.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: Other people to look out for,
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Corinne Chalvoy is a AeroVipa athlete,
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: has her own podcast,
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: pretty involved with AeroVipa commentating.
- 25:36She got seventh at Black Canyon 50K this year and 12th at Black
- 25:40Canyon 100K last year.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: And then Amy Rusiecki, she is the race director of Vermont 100.
- 25:49She races more 100 mile races and things like that,
- 25:53but just wanted to shout her out.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: No social media profile, but just from some searching.
- 25:57found out that she is the race director of vermont 100 a
- 26:00beloved and classic event
- 26:01vermont and a few other vermont trail races she's also an
- 26:04engineer and maybe
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: related or married to brian rusiecki who
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: who is a New England crusher who has a lot of really,
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: really good times at 100 milers and 100 k's in the New England area.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Last one to look out for is Hannah Rowe.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: She got fifth at Loon Mountain last year, which was some type of U.S.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: qualifier.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it was for the team that got sent to Italy,
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: but she was just three minutes behind Lauren Gregory.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: This was like a 53-minute race,
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: so Lauren Gregory went like 53 and changed,
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: and she went like 56.
- 26:33It was only a minute and a half behind Rachel Tomaszczyk,
- 26:38however you say it.
- 26:39And she also beat some really good names,
- 26:40Haley Hafferman and Casey Enman.
- 26:42Haley Hafferman,
- 26:43I think,
- 26:43did really good in the VK at Broken Arrow last year.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: And then Casey Enman is a New England crusher,
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: from Vermont or New Hampshire,
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: who is often winning races up there.
- 26:54So that's kind of the preview for the female 100K on the Gorge
- 26:59side for this U.S.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: qualifier.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: If I had to take a stab at the top five and for my picks,
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: I would probably have to go with Claire Rhodes in first,
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Jade Bellsberg in second,
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Robin Lesch in third place,
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Shea Aquilano in fourth,
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: and then maybe Jane Mouse in fifth,
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: potentially Lauren Puritz.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: So something along those lines.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: I could also see Shea going top three as well.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: And honestly,
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Michelle Bunke,
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know much about her,
- 27:33but her results lead me to think that she could do pretty good
- 27:35in this race as well.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: So she also knows the course.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of my tentative picks.
- 27:41I think that Claire and Claire Rhodes and Jade Bellsberg are
- 27:50locks for top five and
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: for getting some points.
- 27:53I think Shea will pretty confidently be in the three through
- 27:56sixth area and might
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: even get that second spot.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: And then I think...
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: I think if I had to put bats on anything, that's what I'd put bats on.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: So those are my picks for Gorge 100K female side.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: And then on the men's side, I just need to check my battery.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, sweet.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: We're not going to die.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: On the men's side, just looking at some names in the list.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: So Nick Handel,
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Adam Loomis,
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Blake Slatt and Grant,
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: Ryan Miller,
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Ryan Sullivan,
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Adam Peterman,
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Darren Thomas,
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Tracen Knopp,
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: Josh Park,
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: John Ray,
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Jeff Colt,
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Andrew Reilersdom,
- 28:32Matt Seidel,
- 28:33Dylan Humberger,
- 28:34Alex King,
- 28:35Dan Button,
- 28:37Jeff Burns,
- 28:38and Aaron Slaback.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: If I had to...
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: Okay,
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: so talking about some of these gentlemen...
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Sorry,
- 28:55I had to pull up results for one more person who I didn't have
- 28:58pulled up yet.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: So talking about some of these gentlemen.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: So from the top, Nick Handel, no races so far this year, but he has won.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: The more I'm looking at his results, the more impressed I am with him.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Last year, he won Quad Dipsy.
- 29:11He has multiple wins at Quad Dipsy,
- 29:13and he won Big All to 28K in his inaugural year.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: He also got 13th at OCC last year and 11th the year before,
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: so he's really good on the world stage,
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: just outside of that top 10 for the 50K,
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: essentially the 50K world champs.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Only 100K was the DNF at CCC in 2022,
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: but he races super competitive events,
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: and he does not really miss or DNF from what I can tell.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: The only one I could find was CCC DNF.
- 29:37He's got many top fives at Spigo and Broken Arrow,
- 29:39Quad Dipsy,
- 29:40and Canyons.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: I think that he is a very consistent and very dialed athlete,
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: and I'd be hard-pressed to have him outside of your top five.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: So that's Nick Handel.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: Next one on the list, Adam Loomis.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: He's a DNA fit guy.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: also somebody that the more I look at his results,
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: the more impressed I am with him does not DNF and really doesn't miss.
- 30:00I think he had like a 20th place in one of his races,
- 30:04uh,
- 30:04in the past two or three years.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: But, um, other than that, he won Gorge 100K last year, very soundly.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: So he's got that course familiarity.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: I think it's a huge advantage out here in Gorge.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: He knows where to push and where,
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: he wants to make moves and kind of what effort to run it at.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: He also got second at run rabbit run last year.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so got that, let's see, maybe $10,000 a
- 30:24prize person want to save for second place at run rabbit run he
- 30:26also won cheshire's 100 game
- 30:28Fifth at Meet the Minotaur Sky Race,
- 30:30which is a Skyrunning World Series event.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: So he's got some really good versatility,
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Gorge being a flatter and faster,
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: maybe a little bit,
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: but not as technical,
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: 100K.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: And then Meet the Minotaur is like a super technical Sky Race.
- 30:42So he's got tons of versatility,
- 30:45and I think that he will be pretty dialed as well.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: He's,
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: yeah,
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: he's also got previous results,
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: top five at Speedgoat,
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: and I think eighth place as well.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: He's really good and known as more of like a mountainous guy,
- 30:57but Gorge gave me some pretty good confidence that he can also
- 31:01win this type of
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: race because,
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: he already has one Gorge.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: He's a big Schemo guy as well,
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: so I imagine his endurance will really be there,
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: and it's just a matter of how much running he's been doing to get ready.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: He's also from the Salt Lake City area, if I'm not mistaken.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: So that's Adam Loomis.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Next on the list is going to be Blake Slattengren,
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Brooks guy from Seattle,
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Washington,
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: if I'm not mistaken.
- 31:22Ninth at Black Canyon 100K in a sprint finish this year with
- 31:25Canyon Woodward.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: He lost by two freaking seconds.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: He got 11th at Western last year.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: He was the bridesmaid,
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: also was in a sprint finish trying to catch up with Chris Myers,
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: and I think he just ran out of.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: ran out of real estate.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: I think he was within 10 or 15 seconds behind him.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: So 11 plays out Western.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Seems like he wants to get back based off a lot of the racing he does.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: He gets second at Gorge 100K in 2023.
- 31:50And quick piece of trivia,
- 31:52does anyone know who beat him at Gorge 100K in 2023?
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: I'll give you a hint and some time to think about it.
- 31:59This person just raced recently in a golden ticket race and got
- 32:03a golden ticket.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: And this person...
- 32:06blew up the world last year when they won a certain UTMB race
- 32:13and were basically
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: unknown until then.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: That, of course, would be Vincent Bouillard.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: He got second.
- 32:18So Blake Slatengren got second at Gorge 100K in 2023,
- 32:21only to Vincent Bouillard.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I think he was about 10 minutes behind him.
- 32:26And then other results from Blake,
- 32:27second at Havalina 100K,
- 32:28or excuse me,
- 32:30100 miler in 2023.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: That's what got him his golden ticket.
- 32:32And he got fourth at Havalina last year,
- 32:33presumably also going back for that golden ticket.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Next one on the list is going to be Ryan Miller.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: I think he's been sponsored by Nike in the past.
- 32:44He hasn't raced a lot in the past two years,
- 32:48or at least,
- 32:50let's see,
- 32:502024.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Hellbender, 100-miler.
- 32:54Yeah,
- 32:55he's kind of a speedy guy who has raced and won a lot of flat,
- 33:03fast race type of stuff.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Last year, he did Timelpie Headlands 50K and got fifth place.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: He did the 100K Mad City.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: I think that was a U.S.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: road qualifier.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: He got 647 and got second place for that.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: And then previously,
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: he's won the Kauai 50-miler,
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: which was only around for one year,
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: but I think he got a $10,000 or $15,000 prize purse for that.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: And then he's raced some of these.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: He's raced Gorge before 50K, though, and he got first place.
- 33:27And then he's won Bandera as well in 2021,
- 33:29back when it was still a golden ticket race.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: So a little bit of course familiarity,
- 33:35but doesn't tend to do quite as good at these 100Ks as he does
- 33:39at like 50K type of stuff.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: So curious to see how he will do.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: That's Ryan Miller.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Next one on the list, Battle of the Ryans.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: We got Ryan Sullivan.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: I think I've already established I'm a pretty dang big fan of this guy.
- 33:53I think he's only sponsored by Aravipa,
- 33:55but hopefully that changes if that's what he wants.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: So this year, I just talked about him earlier at Chuckanut.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: He did go top five.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: He got fifth place at Chuckanut this year,
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: and I think I had him in second or third,
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: so not too far off.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: He's coming off a 108 half marathon at Mesa this February,
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: which is like a 512 pace or something like that.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: And then he got second at JFK last year in the sixth fastest time ever.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: I had to go look that up.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: And then he also went off to the world team in 2023 at Lake Sonoma 15.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: He got seventh, fourth at Leadville last year too.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: Just a big fan.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: Seems like a really, really nice guy.
- 34:28And I think he could definitely be a sleeper pick,
- 34:31somebody that might surprise some people.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Next one, super excited to talk about the return of the Peter God.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: That is Adam Peterman, of course, Hoka athlete,
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: lives in Missoula,
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: Montana,
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: um,
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: raced at CU Boulder,
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: and just all around world's nicest guy,
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: huge fan,
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: super humble,
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: super nice,
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: super kind.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Uh,
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: so two years ago,
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 34:59had a year that was essentially a no-go because of an injury
- 35:03that he had in early February.
- 35:05I think I just like some local Missoula race that he said he
- 35:07was trying to
- 35:08break the course record out that had stood forever and that he
- 35:11tried a couple cracks at.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: But anyways, what do you need to say about Adam Peterman?
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Hopefully not that much.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: This dude has won Western States, his first and only try.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Canyons, his first and only try.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: 100K, that is.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: He's the world long trail champion from the Thailand year.
- 35:28He's also the people's champ,
- 35:29you know,
- 35:30so he's basically won everything,
- 35:31including our hearts.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: He had what I thought was a light year of racing last year.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: But now that I look at it more,
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: I think it actually was a pretty decent and pretty smart year of racing.
- 35:42I think we all were a little bit surprised when he came out at
- 35:45Canyons and got 13th.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: He was up there with a lead pack,
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: putting his nose in it for a while,
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: and then he just kind of blew up and went to the pain cave,
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: or the box or something like that is what he said.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: But bouncing back from that year, he actually had a really good year.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Not Peter God-esque, but a really good year.
- 36:04If you put this on anyone else's result page,
- 36:06you'd be like,
- 36:06damn,
- 36:06that was a really good year.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: He got third at CCC behind Hayden and
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe Peter Frano, I want to say.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Definitely behind Hayden.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: So third at CCC, fifth at Speed Goat.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Wasn't quite the day I thought he'd have out there.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: I thought he'd go a little bit higher.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: And then he also got third at Broken Arrow,
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: 46K,
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: just behind David Sinclair,
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: who dominated the world last year.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: And then Jeff Mogovero, his close buddy.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: He only beat him by like a minute or so.
- 36:35Actually,
- 36:35a good year for Peterman,
- 36:37but not the Peter God that we're used to.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: Super curious how this will play into his year of,
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: well,
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: he's going to race Western States,
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: first of all.
- 36:47And then second of all,
- 36:49he could be going into a Western and Worlds double.
- 36:53And if we recall correctly,
- 36:54the last year he did that,
- 36:56he won both Western and Worlds.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: So that would be pretty epic if he did it yet again.
- 37:00And I think he got Ultron of the Year that year from Ultroning Mag,
- 37:04if not mistaken.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, and that might have even been before...
- 37:11trail runner of the year was the thing with uh with free trail
- 37:15but i could be wrong
- 37:16um or maybe he went top three and killing beat him that year so
- 37:20um next one list
- 37:21darren thomas he's coming off second at the big alta 28k he
- 37:24smoked me pretty good
- 37:26uh he was second only to a very very fit and very very fast
- 37:30andy wacker who just
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: came off like a stupidly fast gate river 15k um
- 37:34um and ran like a sub 28 10k within the middle of that race so
- 37:41uh not within the
- 37:41middle of big also but middle of gate river so um yeah darren
- 37:45thomas he's been in
- 37:46this war for a long time he's really versatile he can win short
- 37:49and fast stuff he
- 37:49can win long stuff he's raced kind of a range of everything so
- 37:52uh he also got 13
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: that black canyon 100k this year um so
- 37:57uh race black canyon and then last year he was fifth at pikes
- 38:00peak marathon but it
- 38:01was a shortened course a super weird uh thing that not a lot of
- 38:04people were ready
- 38:04for it basically ended up just being a half marathon
- 38:06essentially became bar trail
- 38:08race which kind of went up and down and bombed it uh he got
- 38:1111th at broken arrow
- 38:1223k and 10th of the vk last year um so it doesn't sound that
- 38:15great but when you
- 38:16consider broken arrow was so so so stacked and was was it a
- 38:21golden trail it was
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: like a golden trail and vile seer world cup race so
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: and then 10th in the VK,
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: and then he won Silver State 50K,
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: only time David Sinclair got beat last year.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Pretty crazy.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: And then he's got – Darren Thomas just has lots of ultra experience,
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: and I'm not sure if he's made a U.S.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: team or not, so I'm curious to see.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: Next on the list is going to be Trace and Knopp,
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: also from Alaska,
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: also coming off 4th at Chuckanut,
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: 4th at JFK last year,
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: 13th at Broken Arrow,
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: and 6th at Black Cannon 100K last year.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Um, he was second at UTMB Port of Arts at 100k in 2023.
- 38:57So,
- 38:58um,
- 38:58Tracian is somebody who I think could do really well on this
- 39:01type of course.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: He's a very good and consistent 100k racer.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: I think he's only dropped like one or maybe he hasn't dropped 100k yet.
- 39:09Um,
- 39:10and with that being said,
- 39:10I think that this type of course is going to favor him.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: training in Alaska,
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: living in Alaska,
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: that rocky,
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: rudy,
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: not really rudy,
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: but rocky and wet and sloppy.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of that in Alaska.
- 39:23And I think that if it's the wetter and sloppier it is,
- 39:26I think the better he's going to do.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying he's not fast because he is very, very fast.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: If you get a fourth at JFK, you're pretty freaking fast.
- 39:33But I think this course could really suit him and I could see
- 39:35him making a push.
- 39:37That'd be pretty sick if him and his partner,
- 39:40Claire Rhodes,
- 39:41both made it.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: That'd be pretty cool.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: a little vacation to go to worlds together.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: So next one on the list is could be a sleeper pick.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: And some people,
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: some that people don't really see coming,
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: but that's Mr.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Josh park coming out of Ohio.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: He's coming fresh off of 50 K fifth place at the big altar 50 K.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: And he won the formidable 50 K as well.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: And a tight battle with Casey Campbell.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Looking at some of his previous times and kind of lurking his Strava,
- 40:09thanks to ATH and Fireball for putting out some of his times in
- 40:12the big Alta 50k preview,
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: and then I went and found him on Strava and looked at some more.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: He also ran the Gate River 15k,
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: which for those of you who don't know,
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: is the 15k USATF National Championship.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: It's in Jacksonville, Florida every year.
- 40:26Seems like an obscure distance,
- 40:27but it gets a lot of really,
- 40:29really fast guys.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: And he went there and raced it in 2022, and he ran a 45.02.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: For those of you that can't translate a 15K, I am for sure in that list.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Just think about it, right?
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: So that's three 5Ks in a row at essentially a 15-minute pace.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Or break it down for a minute per mile, that's a 454.
- 40:50minute and 50 second uh pace in 2022 he ran that so uh in that
- 40:55and then yeah
- 40:56basically and he broke he split a 10k in 29 44 which is a 447
- 41:01pace so that's pretty
- 41:03stinking fast uh no 100k races from what i can tell from his
- 41:06history um but he did
- 41:08run super smart at big alta and just kind of was in the mix but
- 41:11didn't overextend
- 41:11himself the whole day he also got seventh at jfk last year in
- 41:14542 but he was
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: disappointed with it from his
- 41:18post it seems like he was up there at the beginning of the race
- 41:21I think in kind of
- 41:22that lead pack and then he started experiencing cramps at like
- 41:25mile 35 and just
- 41:27feel like he didn't really race to his fitness level so super
- 41:29curious to see what
- 41:30he can do and I think he could be a sleeper pick that really
- 41:33could kind of catch
- 41:35people off guard other people to look out for John Ray run over
- 41:41with Hoka he just
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: raced at
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: run through time marathon and got second only to gesture run small who is
- 41:53absolutely insanely fast and fit and probably one of the best
- 41:56at a mountainous 50k
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: or
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: uh, trail marathon, probably honestly in the world right now.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, he is really that, that good of a racer.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: So, um, John Ray's other recent results.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, he raced CCC to a DNF last year.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: He did get ninth in, uh, Western States.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: So he does have a auto return, uh, bib, uh, to Western States this year.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: He got,
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: had a bad race at black cannon and finished 20th,
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: but he did when the year before have Alina and then got fourth at CCC.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: So, um,
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: So curious to see how he races this,
- 42:32curious to see what kind of shape he's in and just kind of
- 42:34curious to see.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: I feel like he can be up and down when he's really good.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: He's really, really good.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I can say when he's bad, he's bad.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: But I mean,
- 42:43he had took him a couple of years to get Western States figured
- 42:45out because he was
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: always kind of just outside that top 10.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: And then Javelina, he always kills it at.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: And then Black Canyon, he hasn't had as much success at.
- 42:55Um,
- 42:55but then the CCC really kind of took me by surprise when he did that.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: So curious to see where John Ray's at.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: second at run through time marathon to Josh is,
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: um,
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: good,
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: but obviously it's nothing,
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: that's not necessarily known as like a super duper fast race.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: He also raced Moab, uh, 55 K, um, but didn't have much competition.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: He won that this year.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: And then, yeah, that's kind of the big stuff for John Ray.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: So I'm curious to see where his fitness is at.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: Next one on the list is going to be Jeff Colt on running athlete.
- 43:24He's coming off the eighth place at Chianti Marathon and a
- 43:27sixth at Black Canyon 50K.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: Last year, he was injured for most of the year.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: So fun to see where he's at.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he, I don't know.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: I'm really curious.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: He's a very tough runner.
- 43:41And when he won Bandera,
- 43:43I remember being kind of surprised that he was that good that year.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: No shade against him.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: But I'd be curious to see.
- 43:49I think he could race a really smart race and be somewhere in
- 43:51five through 10 this year,
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: if I had to guess.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Other names to look out for, Andrew Reilersdom.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: He's coming fresh off of a third place at Chuckanut.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: I did talk about him last time.
- 43:59He's a speedy guy who's gotten third at SamuPi Headlands 50K
- 44:02last year and third at
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Gorge 30K last year,
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: just behind Liam Miro.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Really curious to see.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's racing any 100Ks from what I could tell,
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: but I think that he could be a dark horse as well.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: Other names on the list,
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Matt Seidel,
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: seventh at Chuckanut this year,
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: eighth at Canyons 100K last year,
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: and third at JFK.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Third at JFK last year as well.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Norda athlete.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: He's from Seattle.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: He also got eighth at 2023 Lake Sonoma, which was the U.S.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: long trail qualifier that year.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: And then another fourth place at JFK in 2022.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: So this is a course that I feel like he could do pretty good at.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: He did just race Chuckanut.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: And he's from PNW, so he's used to that type of weather.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Probably has been scouting out the course.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: and then just has good foot speed.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm curious to see where he's at.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: Dylan Humburger is the next one to look at.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: So he's from Ashland,
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Oregon,
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: younger guy,
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: super speedy,
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: third at Kodiak 50K last year and third at Chuckanut last year as well,
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: second at Corch 50K and third at Corch 50K the year before.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: So he knows the course well and is familiar with it.
- 45:11From what I could tell,
- 45:12has not raced any 100K,
- 45:13so this will be a step up.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: But I think he could also be a sleeper pick as well.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: And then some other people just look out for in no particular order.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: So Alex King,
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: founder of Terragnota,
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: a low-cost gear company,
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: but that seems to be a very quality gear company as well.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Pacific Northwest Crusher, he got fourth at Gorge 50K last year.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: Hasn't been racing as much recently,
- 45:34presumably because he's been really trying to get his business
- 45:36off the ground.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: But definitely somebody to look out for it.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Dan Button, he's from Boise.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: He runs,
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: we run with him occasionally,
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: or excuse me,
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: I run with him occasionally at Boise Calgill.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: He has made a U.S.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: team, I think, for the NACAC championships.
- 45:50He got 8th at Cannes 50K last year and 11th at Chuckanut last
- 45:52year as well.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Other people to look out for,
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Jeff Burns,
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: a few 5th places at JFK and top 5s in the Mad City 100K,
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: which is usually a U.S.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Rhodes qualifier for the 100Ks, I'm pretty sure.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: He has a 100K time of 6...
- 46:08hours and 30 minutes so he ran you know 62 miles in six hours
- 46:14and 30 minutes that's
- 46:15kind of crazy um but that one's from a little further back but
- 46:18just as recently as
- 46:19last year he ran 659 and 100k so he's really fast on that uh
- 46:22flat and runnable
- 46:24stuff um another one to look out for aaron slobek uh potential
- 46:28sleeper pick sixth
- 46:29at run rabbit run last year second at odu 100 john kelly one
- 46:33hellgate 100k and
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: eighth at grindstone as well so that kind of runs out the men's
- 46:37side of the 100k uh men's side of the 100k if i had to take my
- 46:46pick uh for the
- 46:48men's 100k for gorge who were sending in the u.s like i said
- 46:51i'm pretty sure it's
- 46:51the top two spots um i think i would put my faith in oh this is
- 47:02tough this is a lot
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: tougher than i thought
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Cool, this is tough.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: I think I'm going to put Faith in the Peter God coming in first.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: Second place,
- 47:14I think that Nick Handel or potentially John Ray would be
- 47:21taking that second place spot.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: Let's go Nick Handel.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: I'll go John Ray in third.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Blake, this is tough.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: Potentially Trace and Knopp in fourth.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: And then fifth,
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: I'd be somewhere between Blake Slattengren and Adam Loomis,
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: although I'm totally subject to change those.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: But I think that locks for the top 10 point getters,
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: I think that for sure Ryan Sullivan is going to be in the top 10.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: I'll put my money on that.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: I think that Adam Loomis is going to be in the top 10.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: He doesn't really miss or DNF, so I'd probably put my money on that.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: I think Trace and Knopp is pretty soundly in four through six,
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: could even potentially go a little bit higher.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: But I think Trace and Race is really smart, almost never DNFs.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: And I think this course really, really suits him.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: So I put some money on that as well.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: And then with regards to potential for winning it,
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: I really think that Adam Peterman has a chance to win.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: I think that John Ray has a chance to win.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: And let's see.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: I think those two probably have the biggest chance to win.
- 48:26And then I know Adam Loomis has won this before,
- 48:28but he hasn't won quite as big of a race.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: So I'd probably go with Peterman or John Ray.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: And then,
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: yeah,
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: that's probably if I had to pick somebody to win,
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: I'd probably be between those two.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: Nick Handel, I think, could be really good and really dialed.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: I just have hesitation with people that haven't raced 100K,
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: but I could be totally wrong about that.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of what I'm looking at.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe Peterman.
- 48:53and then John Ray,
- 48:56and then Tracy Knopp,
- 49:00Nick Handel,
- 49:02and Blake Slattengren.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: It's going to be tough.
- 49:05I'm definitely going to oscillate a lot on this before the
- 49:08final picks come out.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: So anyways, yeah, so I think if I had to pick who's going for the U.S.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: teams, I think Peterman and Ray would probably be my top two picks.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: But I also think there's some potential that –
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: somebody else's niece and proves me wrong.
- 49:23SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of my preview for the Gorge 50K and 100K.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry if it sounded a little bit disjointed.
- 49:31I'm still getting used to just kind of this setup and I was
- 49:36able to find kind of a
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: soundproof room and this is kind of a not busy time of the day.
- 49:39So I probably will try to record my future podcast in here and
- 49:43hopefully the audio
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: quality was up to snuff.
- 49:44It's just on my MacBook Pro right now and I'm going to break
- 49:49out the recording equipment.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: I did bring my
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: microphone and stuff but just i didn't have it on me and i kind of saw an
- 49:54opportunity to be able to report the podcast um so with that
- 49:58being said yeah that's
- 49:59kind of wrapping up uh today's episode of let's talk trail
- 50:02running and with that
- 50:03being said if uh if you agree with me disagree with me if you
- 50:06want to share your

- 50:28SPEAKER_00: I wrote a race recap on it.

- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I'll also try to put it in the show notes if I think of it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:35Just really awesome race,
- 50:36really awesome time and really awesome pictures too.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: There's really,
- 50:39really good photography in the race between Tony with a Sony
- 50:42Ryan thrower and,
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: um,
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: I'm blanking on the last name,
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: but his handle and photocrat,
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: James Hope,
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: that's his name,
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: is in the photos.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: So if you've ever considered doing Big Alta, it's awesome.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: You can go into San Fran,
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: visit friends,
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: visit family,
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: make new friends,
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: make new family,
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: do all the things you can do in San Francisco,
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: eat delicious food,
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: see cool things,
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: enjoy the beautiful weather,
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: escape whatever winter or spring you're in.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: And then just race a really awesome race and hang out all day.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: So that's my plug for Big Alta.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: That's the end of my recap for the Gorge 50K and 100K.
- 51:19And I can't wait to record the next one and look forward to
- 51:22talking to you guys.
