- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: In 2019, the author Bronnie Ware released a fascinating book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: After years of doing unfulfilling work, she began to search for a job that gave her meaning.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And after working with a number of people who were dying, she summarized her reflections into a popular blog post, which was then turned into this book.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: One of the regrets that she talks about in the book is this I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: In fact, one of the themes that keeps coming up over and over again in this book is the regret of not doing the things that you knew were most important.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Truthfully, we all have regrets.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: We all do stupid things and we waste vast amounts of time that we wish that we could get back.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: It's important to be aware of this, and yet we also need to forgive ourselves for the wasted time for the stupid mistakes so we can finally just move on.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Regret is a powerful obstacle that can prevent us from doing our best creative work.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Anne Patchett once said, the ability to forgive oneself is the key to making art and very possibly the key to finding any semblance of happiness in life.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So my question is this have you forgiven yourself for your past mistakes so you can seek a life of freedom and meaning?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Truthfully, you can't go back and change the past, but you can live with more intentionality and purpose from this day forward.
