- 0:03Speaker 1: And we're back to the Craig Way Show. Have a
- 0:06Speaker 1: message for Craig, share it by you see the talkback
- 0:09Speaker 1: feature on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:11Speaker 2: App here on this Monday afternoon of Long Horns Monday,
- 0:18Speaker 2: as we continue here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 0:20Speaker 2: sent Okay, So in case you missed it, if it
- 0:25Speaker 2: was lost to you during the course of the weekend
- 0:33Speaker 2: with everything that was going on with the NFL and
- 0:35Speaker 2: some of the other stories and the Heisman try. By
- 0:37Speaker 2: the way, no big exprise on the Heisman trouphy. I
- 0:39Speaker 2: was I was actually surprised that the vote was as
- 0:42Speaker 2: close as it was. You know, I understand Travis Cuentner
- 0:49Speaker 2: winning it. The real problem with that, although what Ashton
- 0:54Speaker 2: genty was, what he did and has accomplished, is amazing.
- 1:00Speaker 2: But everything I'd read and heard of it was that
- 1:04Speaker 2: the vote was going to be a little more widespread
- 1:06Speaker 2: than it was, and it was not. It was pretty close. Actually,
- 1:09Speaker 2: what the closest vote since two thousand and nine, I
- 1:12Speaker 2: think they said something like that. So that's some respect
- 1:16Speaker 2: for gent for sure. And Navy thump an army. Can
- 1:21Speaker 2: you imagine, you know, if we were following that fantasy
- 1:25Speaker 2: we were doing for a few weeks about if Army
- 1:29Speaker 2: and Navy had remained unbeaten and then got to play
- 1:36Speaker 2: in the American Conference Championship game for the right because
- 1:39Speaker 2: of the playoff, and let's say that Army won it
- 1:46Speaker 2: to get to go to the playoffs, and then Navy
- 1:48Speaker 2: drills them like that in their regularly scheduled Army Navy game,
- 1:53Speaker 2: which would have no impact on the playoff because they
- 1:57Speaker 2: would have played each other the week before in the
- 1:59Speaker 2: American Athletics Championship game that was for the birth. And
- 2:03Speaker 2: say Army had won it, and then they play a
- 2:05Speaker 2: week later in Washington and Navy does the deed and
- 2:09Speaker 2: beats him. It would have split had that happen. But
- 2:13Speaker 2: I know a lot of folks were surprised because Army
- 2:14Speaker 2: had only lost the one ball game uh there, and
- 2:20Speaker 2: that they were the conference champions then wind up getting
- 2:24Speaker 2: thumped by Navy, so they didn't They won the conference championship,
- 2:28Speaker 2: but obviously didn't get into the playoffs. The lost and
- 2:31Speaker 2: under day erased that possibility. Okay, basketball, What I started
- 2:39Speaker 2: to say was for those of you who might not
- 2:42Speaker 2: have noticed it because of everything that was going on
- 2:45Speaker 2: during the course of the weekend. You didn't see what
- 2:48Speaker 2: happened with the NBA the Emirates NBA Cup. Cameron Parker's
- 2:55Speaker 2: Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the final. Whether it take
- 2:57Speaker 2: on the Milwaukee Bucks, Like I said, at least it
- 2:59Speaker 2: kind of. I think it gives the the Cup a
- 3:03Speaker 2: little more credibility like it did last year with Lebron
- 3:05Speaker 2: and the Lakers in it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: M credibility. I mean, Lakers were playing Team Craig and
- 3:11Speaker 1: they won the Cups. So what I think.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The Lakers had the name though you have the name.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So I mean even terms of like you know, the
- 3:17Speaker 1: brand names and brand players. Sure, I mean, you can't
- 3:20Speaker 1: get any bigger than Lebron James. But for this matchup,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you know, it's it doesn't feel like the league is
- 3:27Speaker 1: excited about it. I mean in the on the NBA
- 3:30Speaker 1: website on the app to the the preview, in the
- 3:34Speaker 1: preview article for Rockets Thunder, it literally said the author, now,
- 3:38Speaker 1: course isn't working you know, for the League's working for
- 3:41Speaker 1: the league website that we use on the app. But
- 3:43Speaker 1: he said, well, the NBA, you know, probably wasn't happy
- 3:46Speaker 1: to have Rockets Thunder in the semifinal. But I was
- 3:50Speaker 1: officially on the app there. That's coming from an NBA
- 3:52Speaker 1: dot com writer saying, well, you know we didn't get
- 3:55Speaker 1: the Golden State and the Lakers, or Phoenix in the
- 3:58Speaker 1: Lakers or what not or the mad Average. Yeah right, hey,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'll tell you tell you what, whether you like it
- 4:05Speaker 1: or not, the Rockets and the Thunder are here this
- 4:09Speaker 1: day the next decade, these are going to be two
- 4:11Speaker 1: franchises that have enough talent and great head coaching, good ownership,
- 4:17Speaker 1: or they're going to be around for the significant future
- 4:21Speaker 1: because okay, See is not going anywhere, Houston not go anywhere.
- 4:25Speaker 1: They're your young team. They're only going to get better.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So league's got to figure out a way to market
- 4:32Speaker 1: these teams in these stars a little bit better because right,
- 4:35Speaker 1: tell you what, Leron James, you're twenty two, can't play defense.
- 4:38Speaker 1: He's getting old Curry, he's got a couple of years left.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know, you got to figure out a way to
- 4:42Speaker 1: make these matchups marketable. And in the NBA is doing
- 4:45Speaker 1: an awful job. I mean, the ratings are lowest it's
- 4:47Speaker 1: spending and quite some time, even though the contract for
- 4:50Speaker 1: NBA rights is the highest ever been so as a
- 4:54Speaker 1: basketball junkie and thunder fan. I am pumped for this
- 4:57Speaker 1: game at the same time, doesn't feel like the casual
- 5:00Speaker 1: fans are.
- 5:01Speaker 2: We got to figure out a way to bridge that
- 5:02Speaker 2: cap and he won't count in the regular season standings.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Whereas all the other games did, this one doesn't, which
- 5:08Speaker 2: is kind of odd. You know, you're talking about the
- 5:10Speaker 2: NBA marketing players.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Can he you know who?
- 5:11Speaker 2: They need to stop marketing or at least for a
- 5:13Speaker 2: little while. Joel Embiid. Sure take a break on Joel Embiid.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Now he's out in definitely with a sinus fracture. He
- 5:21Speaker 2: got hit in the face, so there was that. He
- 5:27Speaker 2: was battling Benedict Mathern of the Pacers and he called
- 5:32Speaker 2: an errant form and an elbow to the face. They
- 5:36Speaker 2: took him out early in the second half because of
- 5:38Speaker 2: impact the right side of the face in the cheek
- 5:41Speaker 2: and nose area. So he's out in definitely.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Philly is seven and sixteen. Greig, there are two games
- 5:47Speaker 1: back for the plan. They you know, they can make
- 5:49Speaker 1: a run here the second half of the season, but
- 5:51Speaker 1: not the first half that Daryl Morey was hoping to
- 5:55Speaker 1: see after and he made the acquisition for Paul George,
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think a bit, a little bit, some of us
- 6:00Speaker 1: are surprised that they're seven and sixteen, but Embiid cannot
- 6:03Speaker 1: stay on the court, and at some point you're going
- 6:05Speaker 1: to run out of time here. All right, we'll be
- 6:07Speaker 1: back and wrap up today's program on Sports Radio AM thirteen.
- 6:09Speaker 2: End of the Zone,
