  Strength and calm confidence. You've probably noticed that the
• 0:16
  loudest person in the room isn't always the wisest one.

  Sometimes the people making the most noise, posting the most
• 0:23
  content, or talking the most aggressively are actually the
• 0:27
  most insecure and the most confident people.
• 0:30
  The ones who actually have it together often speak less and
• 0:34
  move with quiet purpose. Proverbs chapter 17, verses 27
• 0:39
  and 28 capture this beautifully. Whoever restrains his words has
• 0:43
  knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of
• 0:47
  understanding, a cool spirit. Not cold, not detached, but
• 0:53
  calm, grounded, not rattled by every wave that comes.
• 0:58
  That kind of calm confidence is exactly what David walked in
• 1:02
  during one of the most famous moments in all of history in
• 1:06
  First Samuel chapter 17. Everyone else saw Goliath and
• 1:10
  panicked. He was enormous.
• 1:12
  He was terrifying. He had been issuing his
• 1:15
  challenge for 40 days and nobody had stepped forward.
• 1:19
  But David didn't see what everyone else saw.
• 1:22
  He saw a man who had defied the living God, and he wasn't
• 1:25
  afraid. First Samuel chapter 17, verse
• 1:29
  45 records what David said before the fight.
• 1:33
  You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin.
• 1:36
  But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of
• 1:40
  the armies of Israel whom you have defied.
• 1:43
  No boasting about himself, no theatrics, just this.
• 1:47
  I know who I am. I know who my God is, and that's
• 1:50
  enough. That's the quiet confidence
• 1:52
  Proverbs is describing. It doesn't need to be loud
• 1:56
  because it's not drawing from pride.
• 1:58
  It's drawing from faith. David wasn't calm because he was
• 2:02
  fearless in a human sense. He was calm because he genuinely
• 2:06
  trusted God, and that trust produced a steadiness that
• 2:09
  everyone around him couldn't manufacture with all their
• 2:12
  noise. What giants are you facing right
• 2:15
  now? What situation has you
• 2:17
  overwhelmed, tempted to either panic or overcompensate with
• 2:21
  bravado? Here's the truth.

  You don't have to out shout the giant.
• 2:26
  You just have to know whose name you're carrying.
• 2:29
  That's enough. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank you for showing us through David, that
• 2:35
  true strength is rooted in faith, not volume.
• 2:39
  Help us to develop a cool and steady spirit, not because we
• 2:43
  have it all together, but because we trust You.
• 2:46
  When we face giants in our lives, remind us that we come in
• 2:49
  your name. That's the only confidence we
• 2:52
  need. Teach us to pause before we
• 2:54
  speak and to act with faith rather than fear.
• 2:57
  In Jesus name, Amen. What if the road ahead is not

  meant to be rushed, feared, or walked alone?

  First Samuel Chapter 17 World English Bible Now the

  Philistines gathered together their armies to battle and they
• 4:24
  were gathered together at Sacco which belongs to Judah, and

  encamped between Sacco and Azka. In Ephesdamum.

  Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together and encamped
• 4:36
  in the valley of Allah and set the battle in array against the
• 4:39
  Philistines. The Philistines stood on the
• 4:42
  mountain on the one side and Israel stood on the mountain on
• 4:45
  the other side and there was a valley between them.
• 4:49
  A champion out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of
• 4:52
  Gath, whose height was 6 cubits and a span went out.
• 4:57
  He had a helmet of bronze on his head and he wore a coat of mail
• 5:01
  and the weight of the coat was 5000 shekels of bronze.

  He had bronze shin armor on his legs and a bronze javelin
• 5:09
  between his shoulders. The staff of his spear was like
• 5:12
  a weaver's beam and his Spears head weighed 600 shekels of
• 5:16
  iron. His shield bearer went before
• 5:19
  him. He stood and cried to the armies
• 5:21
  of Israel and said to them, Why have you come out to set your
• 5:25
  battle in array? Am I not a Philistine?
• 5:27
  And you, servants to Saul, choose a man for yourselves and
• 5:31
  let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me
• 5:35
  and kill me, then will we be your servants.
• 5:38
  But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our
• 5:41
  servants and serve us. The Philistine said, I defy the
• 5:45
  armies of Israel today. Give me a man that we may fight
• 5:49
  together. When Saul and all Israel heard
• 5:52
  those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly
• 5:55
  afraid. Now David was the son of that
• 5:59
  Ephrathite of Bethlehem, Judah, whose name was Jesse, and he had
• 6:02
  eight sons. The man was an elderly old man
• 6:06
  in the days of Saul. The three oldest sons of Jesse
• 6:10
  had gone after Saul to the battle, and the names of his
• 6:13
  three sons who went to the battle were Elyab, the first
• 6:15
  born, and next to him AB an Adab, and the third Shama.

  David was the youngest, and the three oldest followed Saul.
• 6:24
  Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father's
• 6:27
  sheep at Bethlehem. The Philistine came near morning
• 6:31
  and evening and presented himself 40 days.
• 6:35
  Jesse said to David his son. Now take for your brothers an
• 6:38
  ephah of this parched grain and these 10 loaves, and carry them
• 6:42
  quickly to the camp to your brothers, and bring these 10
• 6:46
  cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your
• 6:49
  brothers are doing, and bring back news.
• 6:51
  Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the valley
• 6:55
  of Allah fighting with the Philistines.
• 6:59
  David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with
• 7:02
  a keeper and took and went as Jesse had commanded him.
• 7:06
  He came to the place of the wagons as the army which was
• 7:09
  going out to the fight shouted for the battle.
• 7:12
  Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army
• 7:16
  against army. David left his baggage in the
• 7:19
  hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army and
• 7:23
  came and greeted his brothers as he talked with them.

  Behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by
• 7:30
  name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines and said the
• 7:33
  same words, and David heard them all.
• 7:37
  The men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were
• 7:40
  terrified. The men of Israel said, Have you
• 7:43
  seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy
• 7:47
  Israel. The king will give great riches
• 7:50
  to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter and
• 7:53
  make his father's house free in Israel.
• 7:56
  David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, What shall be
• 8:00
  done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the
• 8:03
  reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised
• 8:07
  Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?
• 8:11
  The people answered him in this way, saying, So shall it be done
• 8:16
  to the man who kills him. Aliab, his oldest brother, heard
• 8:19
  when he spoke to the men, and Aliab's anger burned against
• 8:22
  David. And he said, Why have you come
• 8:25
  down? With whom have you left those
• 8:27
  few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the
• 8:31
  naughtiness of your heart, for you have come down that you
• 8:33
  might see the battle. David said, What have I now
• 8:37
  done? Is there not a 'cause?
• 8:40
  He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that
• 8:43
  again. And the people answered him
• 8:44
  again the same way. When the words were heard which
• 8:48
  David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul, and he sent for
• 8:51
  him. David said to Saul, Let no man's
• 8:55
  heart fail. Because of him your servant will
• 8:58
  go and fight with this Philistine.

  Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this
• 9:03
  Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth and he a
• 9:07
  man of war from his youth. David said to Saul, Your servant
• 9:11
  was keeping his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came
• 9:15
  and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after him and
• 9:19
  struck him and rescued it out of his mouth.
• 9:22
  When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and
• 9:25
  struck him and killed him. Your servant struck both the
• 9:28
  lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine
• 9:32
  shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the
• 9:35
  living God. David said Yahweh, who delivered
• 9:39
  me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear,
• 9:42
  he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.
• 9:45
  Saul said to David, go, Yahweh will be with you.
• 9:50
  Saul dressed David with his clothing.
• 9:52
  He put a helmet of bronze on his head and he clad him with a coat
• 9:55
  of mail. David strapped his sword on his
• 9:58
  clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it.

  David said to Saul, I can't go with these for I have not tested
• 10:05
  them. Then David took them off.

  He took his staff in his hand and chose for himself 5 smooth
• 10:12
  stones out of the brook and put them in the pouch of his
• 10:15
  shepherd's bag which he had. His sling was in his hand and he
• 10:20
  came near to the Philistine. The Philistine walked and came
• 10:24
  near to David and the man who bore the shield went before him.
• 10:28
  When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he
• 10:31
  disdained him, for he was but a youth and Ruddy and had a good
• 10:34
  looking face. The Philistine said to David, Am
• 10:38
  IA dog, that you come to me with sticks.
• 10:41
  The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
• 10:44
  The Philistine said to David, come to me, and I will give your
• 10:48
  flesh to the birds of the sky and to the animals of the field.
• 10:52
  Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with
• 10:55
  a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to you in
• 11:00
  the name of Yahweh of armies, the God of the armies of Israel,
• 11:03
  whom you have defied today. Yahweh will deliver you into my
• 11:07
  hand. I will strike you and take your
• 11:10
  head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of
• 11:13
  the army of the Philistines today to the birds of the sky
• 11:17
  and to the wild animals of the earth, that all the earth may
• 11:20
  know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this
• 11:24
  assembly may know that Yahweh doesn't save with sword and
• 11:27
  spear. For the battle is Yahweh's.
• 11:29
  And He will give you into our hand.
• 11:31
  When the Philistine arose and walked and came near to meet
• 11:35
  David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the
• 11:39
  Philistine. David put his hand in his bag,
• 11:43
  took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his
• 11:46
  forehead. The stone sank into his
• 11:48
  forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
• 11:52
  So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with
• 11:55
  a stone and struck the Philistine and killed him.
• 11:58
  But there was no sword in the hand of David.
• 12:02
  Then David ran, stood over the Philistine, took his sword, drew
• 12:05
  it out of its sheath, killed him, and cut off his head with
• 12:08
  it. When the Philistines saw that
• 12:10
  their champion was dead, they fled.
• 12:13
  The men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted and pursued
• 12:17
  the Philistines as far as Guy and to the gates of Ekron.
• 12:21
  The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to
• 12:24
  Shahraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
• 12:27
  The children of Israel returned from chasing after the
• 12:30
  Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
• 12:33
  David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to
• 12:36
  Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
• 12:40
  When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said
• 12:43
  to Abner, the captain of the army.
• 12:45
  Abner, Whose son is this youth? Abner said, As your soul lives,
• 12:49
  O king, I can't tell, The king said.
• 12:53
  Inquire whose son the young man is.
• 12:55
  As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine,
• 12:59
  Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the
• 13:01
  Philistine in his hand. Saul said to him, Whose son are
• 13:06
  you, you, young man? David answered.
• 13:08
  I am the son of your servant, Jesse the Bethlehemite.
• 13:13
