- 0:31intended, having those late -night, open -heart
- 0:33friend combos, not letting others, ourselves,
- 0:36or ideas hold us down, allowing Jesus to free
- 0:39us of the chains that we didn't know we were
- 0:41holding onto. You can see the full show notes
- 0:44attached to this episode, and if you love this
- 0:46episode, please leave me a review. What is up,
- 0:50girly pops? Welcome back to another episode of
- 0:53the Living Freed Podcast. I hope you're having
- 0:56a wonderful day because I definitely am. The
- 1:00sun is shining. It is no longer 100 ,000 degrees
- 1:03outside anymore. The humidity is leaving the
- 1:06air so we can actually breathe again and not
- 1:09feel like we're drowning. And I am taking full
- 1:11advantage of it. Speaking of full advantage,
- 1:15this past weekend, I did make it to the Bachelorette
- 1:18in time. In fact, I beat the bride there by like
- 1:2110 minutes. So I believe if you beat the bride,
- 1:25you're doing okay. So I beat her by 10 minutes.
- 1:27It was chef's kiss. But we got the best weather.
- 1:30Like truly could not have been better because
- 1:33the weekend before, all it did was rain in Wilmington.
- 1:36And now it's been nothing but sunny. I'm loving
- 1:40it. All the girls that came, because there's
- 1:42like four of us from Wilmington or two, I don't
- 1:44know. But there's a couple of us from Wilmington
- 1:47that also came and we were just telling everyone
- 1:48how lucky we are because the sun is shining and
- 1:51we just hadn't seen the sunshine in a hot minute,
- 1:54especially without heat coming along with it.
- 1:57Though, speaking of... you know, the batch. Let's
- 2:01do weekly updates. So yeah, went on the bachelorette.
- 2:04We went to a wild horse rescue non -profit farm
- 2:10place and it was so much fun. I was having the
- 2:14time of my life. If you look at the photos, you
- 2:16would have no idea that I was having the time
- 2:18of my life because my RBF is so real. But I,
- 2:23on the inside, I was smiling. I was having the
- 2:26best time. In fact, I thought I was smiling in
- 2:29all the photos, but I wasn't. So those will not
- 2:33be making it to social media, at least not on
- 2:36my side. Um, we also ended up going out to Bald
- 2:40Head Island and doing dinner and karaoke one
- 2:43night and we met the craziest group of older
- 2:45ladies. There was like 12 or 13 of them and they've
- 2:49been going on this yearly trip for the last 26
- 2:52years. They were so freaking funny, though. They
- 2:54did every karaoke song. And every once in a while,
- 2:57they would let us join and pull us up. But these
- 3:00ladies took over the whole place. I'd never seen
- 3:03anything like it. And you could definitely tell
- 3:04who were introverts in their group and who was
- 3:07not. And by the end of the night when we left,
- 3:11which was 11, only two of them were getting up.
- 3:14And one of the two did not want to get up there.
- 3:16There was really one person who was the ringleader.
- 3:18And you could tell she needed... the attention
- 3:20and she thrived on having fans and she I will
- 3:24say she had some fans we were a whole bachelorette
- 3:26group next to them and we were fans I was a fan
- 3:29yeah I really I don't know I enjoyed them but
- 3:33then one of them ended up in my chair on Tuesday
- 3:37I was giving her a blowout and we were talking
- 3:39about what we did this weekend and she was telling
- 3:41me and I was like wait a second I was at bald
- 3:43head and we connected the dots and she was in
- 3:45that group which was so crazy and those women
- 3:48are aging so well i needed to ask them their
- 3:52secrets because i want to age like that that's
- 3:54a dream they said the oldest one looks the youngest
- 3:56in the group and she was 72 years old and she
- 3:59did she looked like she was probably in her late
- 4:0250s it was amazing like honestly goals um okay
- 4:06after that we oh my gosh actually okay so yeah
- 4:13we were there for halloween night and the bartender
- 4:16of the restaurant was dressed up and one of the
- 4:19most authentic Beetlejuice costumes I've ever
- 4:21seen and he even did his hair and makeup I've
- 4:23never seen a man go to those lengths and we're
- 4:26waiting at the ferry for the ferry to come get
- 4:28us and all we see is Beetlejuice walking through
- 4:31the fog getting closer and closer and closer
- 4:34to us and it was a movie scene for sure um someone
- 4:40was like who said his name three times uh okay
- 4:44yeah and then we had the bridal shower and it
- 4:46was absolutely gorgeous she's a beautiful bride
- 4:48the shower is phenomenal the food at the shower
- 4:51was phenomenal and it was just so good to spend
- 4:54time with everybody there and get to know the
- 4:56other girls that will be at the wedding because
- 4:58we're only a couple weeks away and let's see
- 5:02what else have I been up to oh I dropped my roommate
- 5:05off at the airport she is in England right now
- 5:08with my old roommate And they are hanging out
- 5:12and having the best time. And I gave strict instructions
- 5:14to send me Snapchat videos. But I haven't received
- 5:17any yet. So, yeah. I don't know. Maybe I won't
- 5:22receive any. I did get a FaceTime video. And
- 5:25I loved that. So, Caitlin, Clara, if you're hearing
- 5:28this, you need to send me more. Because I want
- 5:31to live vicariously through you. and then um
- 5:34after that I went and stopped by my sister's
- 5:37house and saw her and the babies and they are
- 5:40so cute and so sweet and the newborn is just
- 5:43you know doing newborn things which is breathing
- 5:47air and being alive which is all you can hope
- 5:50for I think um I don't know I don't have children
- 5:53and newborns make me nervous but he seemed like
- 5:57he was doing really well and thriving and his
- 6:00older brother is definitely thriving. He was
- 6:03cracking me up. So it was just really fun to
- 6:06get to see my sister and the babies. Okay. Let's,
- 6:09let's, you know, move along. Let's talk about
- 6:13what is in. What is in is decorating for Christmas.
- 6:18Hands are up. Sue a girl. I will be decorating
- 6:20for Christmas while my roommate is out of town
- 6:22because I already have the decor and I want to
- 6:25put it up. And Hobby Lobby was doing 50 % off
- 6:28y 'all. 50 % off. I already bought three things.
- 6:31and only spent 14 i feel like i robbed the place
- 6:35so now i need to go back and buy more stuff so
- 6:37yeah i um i'm freaking pumped because um when
- 6:42you are single and don't have children it's really
- 6:46the little things in life and the magic of christmas
- 6:49is what's in for me i love the magic of christmas
- 6:52we have already watched a christmas movie i have
- 6:55played a couple christmas songs Um, so yeah,
- 6:58sue me. I'm decorating for Christmas and I have
- 7:01zero regrets whatsoever. Okay, what is out? This
- 7:07kind of goes with the Christmas thing. Driving
- 7:10to Raleigh is going to be so out. Like, I have
- 7:13to do it, so it can't really be out, but it's
- 7:16going to feel like it wants to be out. It's going
- 7:17to be officially out when January comes and I
- 7:20don't go back for four months because basically
- 7:22starting today, I will be driving to Raleigh.
- 7:26once or twice a week for the next six weeks until
- 7:30we get past Christmas. Yeah. Only because this
- 7:34marks when my brother's birthday happens. He
- 7:36was born in November. So it's really like, oh,
- 7:39sometimes Halloween. Sometimes I start going
- 7:41for Halloween, but I didn't this year. So it's
- 7:43like birthday, Thanksgiving, events, babies,
- 7:47all the little things, and then Christmas Eve
- 7:50and Christmas Day. And yeah, it's just a lot
- 7:53of driving that way. But I do love my family,
- 7:56so I will be doing it. I just will not be enjoying
- 8:00the driving portion. Yeah. So that's what's out.
- 8:03That's just not the vibes, you know? Just really
- 8:05not the vibes or the paying for gas. And next
- 8:09week I have to go back twice because I have to
- 8:10pick Caitlyn up. I get to pick Caitlyn up from
- 8:12the airport, come home, and then it's my brother's
- 8:15birthday. So then I'll go in for his birthday
- 8:17and then come home. And then it's like a week
- 8:22and then I go back. Or something. I don't know.
- 8:25Anyways, that is all I have for you today. We
- 8:28are going to dive into this week's episode. This
- 8:35week's episode, we are going with the genealogy
- 8:39of Jesus, which is perfect because we are getting
- 8:41closer to Christmas. So welcome to part two of
- 8:45David's story. If you remember where we left
- 8:49off, David and his men had just basically slayed
- 8:52a whole army by themselves, saved the wives,
- 8:54the children, and everything that belonged to
- 8:57them. In 2 Samuel, we know that Saul and Jonathan
- 9:01died, and that is when God has David begin his
- 9:04official reign over the people of Judah. But
- 9:08humans had other ideas, like they usually do,
- 9:12so those ideas take place. And one of Saul's
- 9:15other sons, um, kind of takes over Israel to
- 9:20be king. So obviously war was going to break
- 9:24out between the two because literally nothing
- 9:27else would make sense. Let's be so for real.
- 9:30David, it gets stronger because, well, God was
- 9:33on his side. and Saul's side just gets weaker.
- 9:36Saul's descendant that was sitting on his throne
- 9:39gets murdered, and David becomes king over all
- 9:42of Israel at like age 30, and David gets stronger
- 9:47and stronger because God is still with him. He
- 9:50has even more wives, so he has even more children.
- 9:54Now, we're going to jump into chapter 7. I'm
- 9:57going to read some verses for you, and we'll
- 10:00pick back up. This is verse 1 in chapter 7. Now,
- 10:04when the king lived in his house, and the Lord
- 10:06had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies,
- 10:09the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now,
- 10:12I dwell in the house of Cedar, but the ark of
- 10:14God dwells in a tent. And Nathan said to the
- 10:16king, Go, do all that is in your heart, for the
- 10:19Lord is with you. But that same night the word
- 10:22of the Lord came to Nathan, Go, tell my servant
- 10:24David, thus says the Lord, would you build a
- 10:27house for me to dwell in? I have not lived in
- 10:29a house since the day I was brought up out of
- 10:31the, brought up, With the people of Israel from
- 10:35Egypt to this day. But I have been moving about
- 10:38in a tent for my dwelling. In all the places
- 10:41where I have moved with all the people of Israel.
- 10:44Did I not speak a word with any of the judges
- 10:46of Israel? Whom I commanded to shepherd my people
- 10:50Israel saying. Why have you not built me a house
- 10:52of cedar? Now therefore thus you shall say to
- 10:55my servant David. Thus says the Lord of hosts.
- 10:58I took you from the pastures. From following
- 11:02the sheep. that you would be a prince over my
- 11:05people Israel. And I have been with you wherever
- 11:07you went, and have cut off all your enemies from
- 11:10before you. And I will make for you a great name,
- 11:13like the name of the great ones of the earth.
- 11:15And I will appoint a place for my people Israel,
- 11:18and will plant them, so that they may dwell in
- 11:21their own place, and be distributed no more.
- 11:23And violent men shall afflict them no more as
- 11:26formerly. from the time that I appointed judges
- 11:30over my people Israel, and I will give you rest
- 11:33from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares
- 11:37to you that the Lord will make you a house. When
- 11:39your days are full and you lie down with your
- 11:41fathers, I will rise up your offspring after
- 11:44you, who shall come from your body, and I will
- 11:47establish his kingdom. He shall build a house
- 11:50in my name, and I will establish a throne of
- 11:55his kingdom forever. And I will be to him a father,
- 11:59and he shall be to me a son. When he commits
- 12:02iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod
- 12:04of men, with the strips of the son of men. But
- 12:07my steadfast love will not depart from him, as
- 12:10I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before
- 12:13you. And your house and your kingdom shall be
- 12:15made sure forever before me. Your throne shall
- 12:18be established forever. Okay, so here we see
- 12:22that God made a covenant with David. And it's
- 12:25kind of like a continued covenant to what God
- 12:27made with Abraham, David's great, great, great,
- 12:31great, great, great, great, great, great, great
- 12:34grandfather. That should be like 13 greats, by
- 12:38the way. Anyways, David continues to defeat his
- 12:41enemies, or rather Israel's enemies, and gets
- 12:44stronger and stronger because God is still with
- 12:46him. And in chapter 9, David finds out one of
- 12:53one of Jonathan's sons is still alive. David
- 12:55honors his friendship to Jonathan and honors
- 12:58God by giving Saul's grandson Saul's old lands
- 13:03and a place to eat at his table, which is basically
- 13:06to say like he's welcomed in his house and to
- 13:08be honored and respected. So after doing so many
- 13:12amazing things and asking God again and again
- 13:15and again if he should basically even breathe,
- 13:18David takes a metaphorical left turn without
- 13:21talking to God first in chapter 11. Let's pick
- 13:25up in verse 1 and we're going to read to verse
- 13:275. In the spring of the year, the time when kings
- 13:30go out to battle, that's important, David sent
- 13:33Joab and his servant with him and all Israel,
- 13:36and they ravaged the Amorites and besieged Raab,
- 13:39and David remained at Jerusalem. It happened
- 13:43late one afternoon when David arose from his
- 13:46couch and was walking on the roof of the king's
- 13:48house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing,
- 13:51and the woman was very beautiful. David sent
- 13:54and inquired about the woman, and one said, Is
- 13:58this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Elam, the
- 14:01wife of Uriah the Hittite? So David sent messengers
- 14:03and took her, and she came to him, and he laid
- 14:06with her. Now she had been purifying herself
- 14:08from her uncleanliness. Then she returned to
- 14:12her house. And the woman conceived, and she sent
- 14:14and told David, I am pregnant. So, one, David
- 14:17was clearly meant to be at war, but was staying
- 14:20home for whatever reason he told himself. Two,
- 14:24David was looking at a woman. That was bathing
- 14:28in the privacy of her roof when she was cleansing
- 14:31herself from her period. So he knew why she was
- 14:34cleansing herself. And three, he got the info
- 14:38she was married and still decided to take her.
- 14:40He 100%, trigger warning, SA'd her and then sent
- 14:44her home. So you can assume, as we just read,
- 14:48he did not clear any of this with God. He wasn't
- 14:52where he was supposed to be, and he wasn't doing
- 14:53what he was supposed to be doing, and basically
- 14:55was living in opposite world. David is told she
- 14:59is pregnant, sins for her hubby, and he does
- 15:02his absolute best to get this man to sleep with
- 15:04his own wife while he is home. And you have to
- 15:07imagine, this man has been away from war, away
- 15:09at war, probably, I would hope, misses his wife
- 15:13and the comforts of her, comes home, gets the
- 15:17opportunity to see her, and honestly is like
- 15:20being instructed by his king to see her and he
- 15:23doesn't because the hubby is so committed to
- 15:26his king and his job that he slept at the door
- 15:29of David's house, okay? The door. He wasn't in
- 15:34the comfort of his bed. He wasn't in the comfort
- 15:36of his wife. He slept at the door of David's
- 15:38house after just being at war for who knows how
- 15:41long because I don't have a timeline. David then
- 15:43tries to get this man drunk. and then tries to
- 15:47get him to go home again to his wife, but this
- 15:50man still refuses to go. He does not go. I don't
- 15:54know about y 'all, but like if you've ever been
- 15:56drunk or been drinking, the best place to be
- 15:59is your own bed, okay? Well, and imagine if you
- 16:02are married or some of you might be married.
- 16:03I'm sure you like to be with your significant
- 16:05other, and he still refuses to go. So then David
- 16:09does some sketch work behind the scenes and gets
- 16:12Bathsheba's hubby sent to the front lines on
- 16:15purpose and purposely placed in harm's way to
- 16:19be killed. Terrible, right? So he does die. And
- 16:24this tells me that David doesn't seem much like
- 16:27a man after God's own heart anymore. But that's
- 16:30probably because he isn't really chasing after
- 16:32God's heart anymore. When Bathsheba finds out
- 16:34her husband dies, she is distraught and goes
- 16:37into mourning, but when her mourning period is
- 16:40over, David calls for her and makes her his wife,
- 16:43seemingly doing the right thing now. Um, this
- 16:48is where I want to talk about another trigger
- 16:50warning for infant loss. Because after all this,
- 16:53Nathan the prophet comes in and tells David a
- 16:55story of an injustice that had happened in his
- 16:58land. And David gets so upset about this injustice.
- 17:01And Nathan is like, aha, you are the villain
- 17:04of this injustice. And David's like, OMG, I'm
- 17:07so sorry. And I repent. And Nathan's like, that's
- 17:11great and all, but God, God loves it. Don't get
- 17:14me wrong. God loves that you repent and that
- 17:16you're sorry. But there's still consequences
- 17:18for your horrible actions so the baby will die.
- 17:21And David fasted and wept for the child's life
- 17:25for days. But the baby still passes. And I don't
- 17:29want to blow over this loss of the baby like
- 17:31it's nothing because it isn't nothing. But I
- 17:33do want to say that when we sin, our actions
- 17:36have consequences. And sometimes those consequences
- 17:39will affect innocent people. Okay, so now after
- 17:43all this and Bathsheba loses her baby and has
- 17:46lost her husband and has gone through the trenches
- 17:49with this man called David, she does get pregnant
- 17:53by him again. And this next child is named Solomon,
- 17:56who is going to be the next one in line for Jesus.
- 18:00During David's 70 years on the earth, he reigned
- 18:04over Judah for seven -ish of those years. and
- 18:08over all of Judah and Israel for 33, bringing
- 18:10his full reign to a total of 40 years. David
- 18:14went through times of rejection, persecution,
- 18:16and harassed. David might be a man after God's
- 18:20own heart, but he was also a murderer, a poor
- 18:23father, was guided by pride, didn't punish people
- 18:27when he should have, was quick to judge others,
- 18:34And he lacked discernment when he didn't go to
- 18:37God first. He is a really great human example
- 18:40of what it looks like when we don't seek God
- 18:42first. And these are all things, hopefully minus
- 18:46murder, that we all fall into. David was a man
- 18:50of faith, though. A faith in his God and faith
- 18:53that his God is faithful. He was bold, compassionate,
- 18:57repentant, respected authority, and often walked
- 19:00in humility. He had his moments of pride. but
- 19:03he more often than not walked in his humility.
- 19:07Through David's story, we see our next Christ
- 19:09-like representation. He was picked last by man,
- 19:13but picked first by God. He was rejected and
- 19:16harassed. He was compassionate, respected authority,
- 19:19and walked humbly. David shows us why we should
- 19:22seek God first and not rely on ourselves or humans.
- 19:26His story also shows us that we might be called
- 19:28or chosen for something, but it will happen on
- 19:32God's timeline and not our own. David is where
- 19:35the lineage of Mary and Joseph both come from,
- 19:38actually. Joseph coming from Solomon and Mary's
- 19:41coming from Nathan, not the prophet. but Bathsheba's
- 19:46other son. So both of them sharing the same father
- 19:50and mother. Okay, anyways, I know that one was
- 19:54a little shorter, but I know that genealogy has
- 19:56been a lot to take on. So hopefully you'll tune
- 20:00in for the story of Solomon next. Let's pray.
- 20:04Dear God, thank you so much for having these
- 20:08records put in place where we can see where your
- 20:10stories come from. The buildup, the tension buildup
- 20:13of... where Jesus comes from, the humanity behind
- 20:16it all, the faults behind it all, the horrific
- 20:18stories behind it all, but that you have a greater
- 20:23plan and purpose and there's always redemption
- 20:25in the end. Thank you for choosing us and loving
- 20:29us and giving it an opportunity for us to get
- 20:32to know you and your story and your son's story
- 20:34better. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, that's
