- 0:00Speaker 1: It is the radio from hew X Pole. Your participation
- 0:03Speaker 1: on the phone is really requested. Eight seven seven six
- 0:07Speaker 1: zero two nine six nine six is the number you
- 0:10Speaker 1: can text if that's the only way you can do
- 0:12Speaker 1: it three three nine eighty six, but we do prefer
- 0:14Speaker 1: your phone calls on the expole eight seven seven six
- 0:18Speaker 1: oh two nine six ninety six. The question is what
- 0:22Speaker 1: is the lesson you had to learn the hard way?
- 0:24Speaker 1: And I've been thinking about that. Any life lesson I
- 0:28Speaker 1: have ever encountered is a lesson that I've had to
- 0:31Speaker 1: learn the hard way.
- 0:33Speaker 2: You didn't just have somebody say Bill, you really shouldn't
- 0:35Speaker 2: do that, and you didn't do it.
- 0:36Speaker 3: You had to actually do it right. Yeah, don't touch
- 0:39Speaker 3: that hot stove.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Bill. I'm that sort of I was that sort of
- 0:42Speaker 1: kid growing up. It was, well, you shouldn't do that. Well,
- 0:45Speaker 1: that's who I wonder why. Maybe I'll find out And
- 0:48Speaker 1: I would always find out the hard way.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, somebody texted in. My hard lesson was that condoms
- 0:54Speaker 2: are not always effective birth control. I love my thirty
- 0:57Speaker 2: one year old son, but being a teen mom, rough
- 1:00Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That's weird. That's weird because I think they're supposed to
- 1:03Speaker 1: be like ninety eight percent effective or something like that.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Any birth control, actually, this is a good time to
- 1:08Speaker 2: mention this. Here's mom again. Any birth control is only
- 1:12Speaker 2: as effective as you are good at using it.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Yes, you can put a condom on wrong. Yeah, I
- 1:18Speaker 3: mean you can.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Skip a day of your birth control and screw it up.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So when they say it's it's effective, it is if
- 1:24Speaker 2: you use it one hundred proper.
- 1:27Speaker 1: The time, I couldn't find a condom that that would fit.
- 1:29Speaker 1: They were always way they were way too loose and
- 1:32Speaker 1: they would just fall off.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I'd like to use.
- 1:36Speaker 1: One, I'd like, but there don't. They make them smaller.
- 1:41Speaker 3: We've got a call.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Let go Tim, Hi, Tim the tree guy. Good morning.
- 1:47Speaker 4: How are we this morning?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Fine? Tim? I'm guessing that you've had to learn several
- 1:51Speaker 1: lessons the hard way.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah, my life is the hard way. But one word,
- 2:01Speaker 4: and this is from my childhood on up. I had
- 2:05Speaker 4: to learn gravity.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, perfect, perfect, perfect thing to learn for a guy
- 2:13Speaker 1: who climbs trees.
- 2:16Speaker 4: But I mean it started as a child. I mean
- 2:19Speaker 4: I was constantly trying to fight it, and man, you
- 2:21Speaker 4: just can't win.
- 2:22Speaker 1: No gravity will always win.
- 2:25Speaker 3: You jumped off the roof when you were a kid.
- 2:27Speaker 4: You were one of those kids.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I did too. Jim, did you do the thing where
- 2:32Speaker 1: if it was a windy day, you'd get up on
- 2:35Speaker 1: a roof or something with your coat and then you'd
- 2:37Speaker 1: put your like hold your coat out like so that
- 2:40Speaker 1: the wind would maybe catch it, and then jump to
- 2:42Speaker 1: see if you could.
- 2:44Speaker 4: No, but I tried it with an umbrella.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Did Yeah, I did that. I did that sort of Man.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We were really stupid.
- 2:55Speaker 5: We also didn't have a lot of TV to teach
- 2:57Speaker 5: us anything, so we had to learn it.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And seven six o two nine six nine six, Come on,
- 3:05Speaker 1: Katie TV. That's where I learned to smoke. Come on
- 3:09Speaker 1: eight seven seven six oh two nine six nine six.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's the number. What kind of lessons have you learned
- 3:15Speaker 1: the hard way?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Terrence texted in I'm not going into details, but drugs
- 3:20Speaker 2: are bad, Okay, drugs are bad enough?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Said yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Someone else says I had to touch the glowing red
- 3:27Speaker 2: hot coils on my stove.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Oh I wonder if those were Yes.
- 3:31Speaker 5: I knew a lot of kids that didn't believe the
- 3:33Speaker 5: cigarette lighters in older cars, and so they they turn
- 3:37Speaker 5: it on and then they touch it, and yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I had a I had a burn from a cigarette
- 3:42Speaker 1: lighter in a car. Yeah. Eight seven seven six o
- 3:45Speaker 1: two nine six nine six is the number. It's the
- 3:48Speaker 1: radio from hell x Pool. You can also text us
- 3:50Speaker 1: three three nine eighty six if really quick.
- 3:53Speaker 5: If the phones hang up on you, please call back.
- 3:56Speaker 5: We're having some phone issues as how it's going on.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yes, uh yeah. So if the phone hang hangs up
- 4:02Speaker 1: on you, just try it again. We're not hanging up
- 4:04Speaker 1: on you now, and genuine generally you will get through
- 4:08Speaker 1: the second time you try. So eight seven seven six
- 4:11Speaker 1: two nine six nine six.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Somebody says, don't go down ladders the wrong way. I
- 4:15Speaker 2: felt a little to go off a platform dive at
- 4:19Speaker 2: Lava and I chickened out. I went down the wrong
- 4:21Speaker 2: way and fell off the ladder, hit my head on
- 4:22Speaker 2: the cement all the way down.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I know exactly that high dive at Lava. I climbed
- 4:29Speaker 1: I too, climbed up that ladder and went to the
- 4:32Speaker 1: edge and looked over, went nope, nope, nope, can't do it,
- 4:35Speaker 1: went and I climbed back down.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Somebody else says, my hard lesson is I need to
- 4:39Speaker 2: go through with what I promised to do. But soon
- 4:41Speaker 2: after the promise. I've given a gift of dinner or
- 4:44Speaker 2: an event to a family member and they've passed away
- 4:46Speaker 2: before I was able to give the gifts.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So don't don't wait. Let's go to line one. Uh
- 4:52Speaker 1: it's hi, Teresa. Where are you calling from?
- 4:56Speaker 6: Calling from the freeway?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Okay, Hey, let me ask you before you tell sure.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Did you try and call once? And did you get
- 5:02Speaker 1: Did it hang up on you?
- 5:04Speaker 7: No?
- 5:04Speaker 6: It went right through?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Okay, all right? Uh so what what lesson did you
- 5:09Speaker 1: learn the hard way?
- 5:11Speaker 6: I learned hose clamp maintenance is very very important on
- 5:16Speaker 6: a motor home.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yes, tell us what what? What it resulted in?
- 5:23Speaker 6: It was it was after country jam and we were
- 5:26Speaker 6: dumping the motor home. I had a motor home full
- 5:30Speaker 6: of friends and they all had their little heads hanging
- 5:34Speaker 6: out the window watching me empty the motor home like
- 5:36Speaker 6: a whole bunch of puppies. And the next thing I know,
- 5:40Speaker 6: the hose came off, shoop, went everywhere.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was all Was it all over you
- 5:51Speaker 1: as well?
- 5:53Speaker 6: I backed up, but it went everywhere and there was
- 5:55Speaker 6: a line of like one hundred people on either side.
- 6:03Speaker 6: The hard way maintenance, it's very important all right, thank.
- 6:08Speaker 1: You, Teresa. Jeez gloss.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Let's see, I had to learn that nine volt batteries
- 6:15Speaker 2: don't feel good on your tongue. Nope, Well I kind
- 6:18Speaker 2: of like that, and bug zappers don't feel great either.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, don't put stuff like that.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I kind of like the nine volt volt battery on
- 6:26Speaker 1: your tongue, just like a pick me up for you. Yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: it kind of just gives me a little.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Someone says love isn't enough to make a relationship work.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Pick a partner who works as hard.
- 6:36Speaker 3: As you do.
- 6:37Speaker 1: All right, who's ever online? One?
- 6:39Speaker 3: Hang on?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Hang on, we have to take a break here and
- 6:42Speaker 1: then we'll come back with your stories. What did what
- 6:46Speaker 1: lesson did you have to learn the hard way? All right,
- 6:48Speaker 1: we do have a couple of phone calls, and there
- 6:50Speaker 1: are lines available, and again, our phones are being really wonky.
- 6:55Speaker 1: So if you dial in and it hangs up on you,
- 6:58Speaker 1: just try again and you should get through. What is
- 7:01Speaker 1: a lesson that you had to learn the hard way?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Let's go to Robin. Good morning, Robin. Where are you
- 7:06Speaker 1: calling from?
- 7:07Speaker 7: Good morning, I'm calling from Midvale, Utah.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Okay, Robin, what lesson did you learn the hard way?
- 7:14Speaker 7: When you're done, cooking on a guest. So right after
- 7:17Speaker 7: you turn off the burners, don't pick up that rack
- 7:19Speaker 7: burner with your bare hands.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah do you think, well the flame is gone? It
- 7:26Speaker 1: must be.
- 7:26Speaker 7: Okay, yeah yeah yeah, good sense and reasons had just
- 7:31Speaker 7: abandoned me in that moment. And I don't. I think
- 7:34Speaker 7: there's still a few fingerprints missing.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I think I've actually done that myself. I think I've
- 7:40Speaker 1: done that.
- 7:41Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, all right, weird takes over.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you of course.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Eight six two nine.
- 7:49Speaker 1: We got Louise here, Yes, Hi, Louise, Hello, Hi, Hi,
- 7:53Speaker 1: how are you today?
- 7:55Speaker 8: I am just wonderful. How are you?
- 7:57Speaker 1: I know you're wonderful.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Where are you calling from?
- 8:00Speaker 8: Louise calling from Salt Lake?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Okay, what's the lesson you had to learn the hard way?
- 8:06Speaker 8: My hard lesson was why you should never use a
- 8:08Speaker 8: curling iron naked.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Now I've I've had the curling iron, like, get the
- 8:15Speaker 2: side of your head.
- 8:18Speaker 3: But did you drop it?
- 8:19Speaker 7: Is that?
- 8:20Speaker 3: What happened?
- 8:21Speaker 8: I did? I have no out of my hand, and
- 8:24Speaker 8: as I fumbled with it, it ended up against one
- 8:26Speaker 8: of my boobs and it was a terribly painful bird
- 8:30Speaker 8: that lasted for a week.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Oh don't naked.
- 8:36Speaker 8: And just let the curly iron drop.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Ya.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Don't try to grab it back.
- 8:41Speaker 8: No, don't try.
- 8:41Speaker 6: To grab it.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Although, Louise, I want to thank you for putting certain
- 8:45Speaker 1: images in my mind right now. Thank you. We'll see you. Ladies.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Don't drop.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Don't catch a knife.
- 8:52Speaker 3: That you dropped.
- 8:53Speaker 5: No, yeah, people, I got six stitches a couple of
- 8:56Speaker 5: years ago from that one.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Let's go to h Adam. Uh hi, Adam, what lesson?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Did you learn the hard way?
- 9:04Speaker 9: I pay your tickets on time you get a ticket,
- 9:07Speaker 9: just pay it, get.
- 9:07Speaker 4: It over it.
- 9:08Speaker 3: You can get way more expensive.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You let you let just one pile up or more.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I was young, multiple tickets on the same
- 9:18Speaker 1: deal and uh yeah, to be somewhere where you don't
- 9:21Speaker 1: want to be. Oh so you ended up going to
- 9:25Speaker 1: jail for a period of time, Yes, sir, I did. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 1: that's that's and that's and that's really stupid, isn't it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I mean it's what you're really You must be sitting
- 9:36Speaker 1: there in jail going how stupid can I be? Could
- 9:39Speaker 1: have just paid them?
- 9:41Speaker 6: Yeah, and I would have saved you a long time.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well, Adam, I'm glad you learned. Kids out there,
- 9:47Speaker 1: pay your ticket. Yeah yeah, okay, good good advice. Thanks
- 9:50Speaker 1: Adam for you, Thank you. I had I had one
- 9:55Speaker 1: that I just just occurred to me. It's a lesson
- 9:59Speaker 1: that I learned when you and it's also a lesson
- 10:02Speaker 1: that my brother learned. Oh okay, So my brother stole
- 10:06Speaker 1: my peanut butter sandwich and I was chasing him to
- 10:10Speaker 1: get it back, and he was at the back door,
- 10:13Speaker 1: which was a glass kind of one of those glass
- 10:16Speaker 1: screen doors, and I kicked him, and I kicked him
- 10:20Speaker 1: into the glass door, which shattered and cut his hip
- 10:25Speaker 1: open so badly he started bleeding profusely and we had
- 10:29Speaker 1: to rush him to the hospital. How much, Oh plenty.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But so the lesson I learned that lesson the hard way,
- 10:36Speaker 1: don't don't kick your brother into a glass door. But
- 10:40Speaker 1: on the other side, he learned, don't steal your brother's
- 10:43Speaker 1: peanut butter sandwich. You could end up in the hospital exactly.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Texter says, have an affair with a co worker. Oh yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 2: I lost a fifteen year career.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Oh man, I don't do that.
- 10:57Speaker 2: My sister was curling her hair and warned me it
- 10:59Speaker 2: was hot and to touch it. So my defiant four
- 11:01Speaker 2: year old self decided to grab it and hang on
- 11:04Speaker 2: and not let go.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It was horrible.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Let's go to Julie on line one.
- 11:08Speaker 7: Hi Julie, Hey guys, it is Julie doctor who fan.
- 11:13Speaker 9: Uh huh. My My lesson I learned was.
- 11:16Speaker 7: Don't do a karate kick if you don't know how.
- 11:20Speaker 3: What were you kicking?
- 11:23Speaker 8: Well, so my brother is I was. I was a teenager.
- 11:26Speaker 9: My brother grabbed my leg from behind. I was holding
- 11:29Speaker 9: it up in the air, and I thought I'll just
- 11:30Speaker 9: kick him with the other leg.
- 11:32Speaker 7: Oh so, yeah, I landed on my face.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, there's there was nothing new you just had. There
- 11:40Speaker 1: was nowhere to go but pop on your face. Yep,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I can picture.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 9: Yeah, I thought my other leg would drop, but.
- 11:46Speaker 7: Nope, noting happened.
- 11:47Speaker 1: All right, thanks Julie. Uh huh Hi eight seven seven
- 11:52Speaker 1: six oh two nine six nine six. What lesson did
- 11:54Speaker 1: you learn the hard way?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Somebody says, I learned my hard lesson about scammers to
- 12:00Speaker 2: Florida and people pulled up to my apartment complex and
- 12:02Speaker 2: said they had amazing speakers in their car to sell
- 12:05Speaker 2: me only two hundred dollars.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I said, gosh, I don't have any cash.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And they drove me in their car to the bank
- 12:10Speaker 2: to withdraw money.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Really lots.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I didn't believe the tongue on the frozen pole from
- 12:20Speaker 2: Christmas story was accurate.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I tried it.
- 12:23Speaker 1: It is.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Then you don't have any taste buds for a while.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Woodworker Willie says, learn to not get your fingers too
- 12:30Speaker 2: close to moving blades.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, have high standards for the people you date. Yes,
- 12:40Speaker 2: I had to learn that just because it smells tasty,
- 12:42Speaker 2: it is not always tasty. I tried to eat fruit
- 12:45Speaker 2: scented soap from bath and body works as a kid.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Sometimes there are you know, cosmetic products that smell
- 12:53Speaker 1: so good you could almost eat them.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Chef Roy said, I had to have been five in
- 12:58Speaker 2: the backseat of my parents' friend's car and stuck my
- 13:00Speaker 2: finger in the cigarette lighter.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I never told my parents, saying I know my car
- 13:07Speaker 3: when running out of gas. Yeah, I did that with
- 13:09Speaker 3: my old scooter.
- 13:10Speaker 5: I had a tiny, tiny, one hundred one fifty cc
- 13:14Speaker 5: scooter and I was like, we're fine, and half my
- 13:17Speaker 5: dials didn't work.
- 13:19Speaker 3: No pran out of gas. Not fine. Let's see.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I learned as a young woman I'm now in my
- 13:25Speaker 2: forties that trust needs to be earned, not given. I
- 13:28Speaker 2: was young and naive, and I was prime prey for
- 13:31Speaker 2: ill intentioned older men.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 13:35Speaker 3: On the plus side, it taught me to be a
- 13:36Speaker 3: pretty good judge of character.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Don't cook bacon in the nude, drab, the trash man.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I learned the hard way after providing entirely for my wife.
- 13:46Speaker 2: The court doesn't give you any credit for all the
- 13:48Speaker 2: past years of support. They just see it as precedent
- 13:51Speaker 2: for alimony. You'll have to pay.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yikes, bitter divorce.
- 13:55Speaker 5: If your girlfriend is on antibiotics, then the pill isn't effective.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a bore. Oh yeah, I have a
- 14:01Speaker 3: gorgeous daughter.
- 14:02Speaker 5: But I was too young to be a dad.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They warn you when you're to use secondary birth control
- 14:09Speaker 2: when you're on antibiotics.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Don't put a hot glass pan in cold water. Yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 3: it will explode. I have I have watched that happen.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Let's see a hard lesson learned. Always keep your kids
- 14:24Speaker 2: on a floating near a pool. My child fell in
- 14:27Speaker 2: and I had to rescue her.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Oh, teach them to swim.
- 14:30Speaker 1: We're just about at it, just about out of time.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But if you have a hard lesson that you'd like
- 14:34Speaker 1: to tell us about we'd like to hear from.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Oh no, don't cut jalapeno peppers and then scratch your
- 14:39Speaker 5: eyes or other sensitive areas on your body. Yeah, I
- 14:42Speaker 5: think we've all been there, made that mistake once or twice.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I'm an electrician. Always use your tester to make sure
- 14:49Speaker 2: a circuit is not energized. That's Brian of Logan.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Now everybody's calling in.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, you guys. You know you're late to
- 15:01Speaker 1: the party.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Here.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Make sure hedge clippers are off before you grab it.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Sixteen stitches later on the tip of my feet.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Oh, that's a terrible idea.
- 15:10Speaker 1: You know, most of the time that I've had to
- 15:12Speaker 1: have stitches, it's because I've done something stupid.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Grab something, you put your hand somewhere, or you.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Know, tried to pry open a can that was partially open.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Know, and or grabbed haven't you grabbed a knife before,
- 15:26Speaker 3: like Katie, Yes.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I have.
- 15:27Speaker 5: Mine was a socker reflex, but I'm glad I didn't
- 15:30Speaker 5: kick it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Let's go to Tory online one a little bit. Hi, Tory,
- 15:35Speaker 1: where are you calling from?
- 15:37Speaker 9: I'm calling from South Salt Lake.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Okay, And what what did you learn the hard way?
- 15:42Speaker 9: I learned that an oven and a kiln are two
- 15:46Speaker 9: very different things, and setting your oven to five hundred
- 15:49Speaker 9: degrees and trying to bake your high school project is
- 15:52Speaker 9: not a good idea. It exploded everywhere. Really, project that
- 15:59Speaker 9: I worked on for two months, O man, and I
- 16:04Speaker 9: had to clean boking glass out of the oven.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Oh well, sorry, toy. How long ago was that?
- 16:10Speaker 9: I was about seven years ago.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Oh you're fine now, okay, you're yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 2: All right, thank you, and we can move this over
- 16:18Speaker 2: to social media. People want to still participate. What's the
- 16:21Speaker 2: lesson you're hear learned the hard way?
- 16:23Speaker 5: I will go sharing around after the show.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Thank you, all right, that is your ex full
