- The DECAF Network: Hey, it's Dex from the Checkpoint and Reboot Play One, and I thought I would just answer a question or the type of question that normally gets asked on the checkpoint catch-ups. And that question being, now I haven't had too much time to prepare for this. Maybe a minute or so. I thought this was a nice question to ask myself an answer. So ⁓ let's see how we go with this. So the question is what happened? To the person I thought I'd become. What happened to the person I thought I'd become? That's a bit of a a weird question. Because ever since I was a kid, I don't think I really knew what I wanted to be when I grow up when I grew up. When I was really young, you know, you you say the obvious things, ⁓ fireman, policeman, doctor. You know, race car driver, all of those things that when you're really, really young, you just think they sound kinda cool. But you know, you just kinda write those things down. Not knowing exactly what's involved and some of the things that you you'll be faced with if you did decide to go down those professions. ⁓ as I got older, even still, I I I don't think I really had a an ideal picture of what it is that I wanted to do. ⁓ I think I mentioned in another video, I never saw myself as a a business owner. I don't I I never was the entrepreneurial type when I was a kid. I wasn't one of those buy cheap, sell expensive kind of guys and you know, setting up a lemonade stand. That w that wasn't me. ⁓ I was I was a marketing guy at the very beginning and in hindsight I I I found a a love for creativity back then and then I kind of quickly transitioned over into an IT guy. Which for the most part is like the total opposite of being creative. ⁓ it's very analytical, very black and white for the most part. ⁓ and even then I I I don't think I had any idea of ⁓ what person I thought I would be. I th I think once I ⁓ once I purchased the business and started to run it ⁓ the way that I want to, I think I had some ideas of what I wanted. With the business in terms of size and revenue and all of that sort of stuff, but that's not, you know, that that's a business thing. That's not really a me thing. One thing that I can say for certain though is that the person that I thought I wanted to be was a successful person in whatever endeavor it was that I was doing at the time. So if I was running my own business, I thought, you know, ⁓ I I'd I'd want business to to do really good based off, you know, the input that I had, based off some of the decision I made, the the creativity and and products I put together and all of that sort of stuff. And then when I was doing certain parts of that business, you know, whether it be support or sales or marketing within that business, I had grand visions of just conquering that particular part of my business ⁓ and then growing it that way. I didn't really have ⁓ a a vision of the person that I thought I'd become as a as an image, you know what I mean? ⁓ although the the person that I am now I'm I'm super happy with. I you know I've I've done a lot of self-work in the past five longer plus years, a lot of Looking inside, a lot of trying things out, a lot of experimenting and just assessing things that work for me. And now I'm I'm at a place that I'm I'm really happy with. And that's as a result of again, looking inside, ⁓ seeing what I valued, seeing what I really wanted. ⁓ and look and even still I I couldn't give you like this solid answer of what it is that I specifically want. It it'll change, it'll always change, but there is a little bit more clarity behind that. There is a particular direction that I want to head and I don't know what that is. But the result of all that is is looking inside and and then just taking stock of all of the things that I'd done and tried and succeeded with and failed at and really thought about the times that I thought that I I made bad I like bad decisions. Or I was in a bad place because this thing failed, or this person screwed me over, or you know, or what I thought was going to happen didn't. And I and I really dug into those ⁓ events and situations and circumstances and and I sought to see the the learnings from them and I found that. In order to get to where I am now. Again, like I said, I'm super happy with where I am now. In order for me to get to where I am today, this very this exact moment, I had to have gone through all of those trials, all of those tribulations, all of those things that I had to endure and then to stop and assess and go, as a result of that happening, I got introduced to this or I started to research that and I was introduced to that person who then said this and it's this You know, ⁓ it it kind of reminds me of ⁓ you know those ⁓ those movies where there's like these math geniuses and they're just writing all these equations on the board? That's kind of how I see ⁓ my life in terms of getting to this point is like all these events are like equations on the board. This equals that, and then add this and then this thing came comes over here and then that thing happens there. And the answer, which is obviously still ongoing. ⁓ is where I am now. So ⁓ so what happened to the person I thought I'd become? ⁓ they're improving. They're ⁓ a word that a very close friend of mine said just the other day, she said evolving. And I think that's probably the most accurate word for me to describe ⁓ what happened to the person I thought I'd become. Because let's just say that you know, I did have the perfect image of who I thought I'd become. I don't think I'd be able to stay that person for long. I don't think anybody does, really. ⁓ it it's similar to, you know, I like I like UFC. I watch UFC and I have heard champions, UFC champions, a number of UFC champions say that, you know, their their goal is to be the champion of their weight division. They work hard, they train hard. All this sort of stuff, they go through hell, they get beaten up, all of this sort of this training, this mental stuff, ⁓ all for this one very specific goal of being the champion. And ⁓ and once they become the champion, then everything's a bit of a blur. Like they g they kind of lose they lose focus. Obviously, they have to defend the championship, but that's a new goal. And that that's a goal that a lot of the times they're not really trained to do? You train for this one specific thing is to be the champion. So your skills and all of this other stuff get involved. And, you know, a number of times I have heard that once they became the champion, then things went a bit weird. You know, they they've got their goal. Like what like what else is there? Like there were so single focus, single mindedly focused, is that the right word? I think so. ⁓ on reaching that goal and they got it. And then it's like, what now? And that's almost the same answer that I would give. in terms of, you know, what happened to the person I thought I'd become. Let's just say I thought I'd become a police officer. Wouldn't happen. ⁓ but let's say if it was and it became a police officer, like that's not gonna be me for the rest of my life. That's gonna be me maybe for that very one short period of time and I might be like, well what's next? Like, how do I, you know, do I stay this? I don't think so. Knowing me now, I know that whatever vision I had of what I would be when I was older is would wouldn't be who I would be for the rest of my life. Which is probably explains the reason why I never really had one in the beginning. I just thought, you know, it was I was more of a chameleon, I guess. You know, just seeing where life took me and and what I enjoyed and then maybe seeing how I can get to be the very best of that, at least within my ability. So to answer the question, What happened to the person I'd thought I'd become? I would just say that that person's evolving, constantly evolving. Like I said, there is a particular path I want to head down and there are some goals that I 100% have. And once I achieve those goals, then I'll evolve again. You know, it might even be a a case of where the direction that I'm heading might deviate slightly left or right. And I'll involve involved I'll evolve to whatever it is that I might have pivoted to. So for me, it's it's an easy it's an easy answer. For others, maybe not so much. but this is why we ask these questions because people have differing answers and it's very interesting to hear what other people have to say. So if you like questions like this, and if you have questions like this yourself, ⁓ head on over to one of our checkpoint catch-ups. You can find out all the details by going to tc.rebootplayer1.com.
