- 0:00Speaker 1: Mosiah chapter twenty. Now there was a place in Sheemlon
- 0:05Speaker 1: where the daughters of the Lamanites did gather themselves together
- 0:08Speaker 1: to sing and to dance, and to make themselves merry.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And it came to pass that there was one day
- 0:14Speaker 1: a small number of them gathered together to sing and
- 0:16Speaker 1: to dance. And now the priests of King Noah, being
- 0:20Speaker 1: ashamed to return to the city of Nephi Yea, and
- 0:23Speaker 1: also fearing that the people would slay them, therefore they
- 0:27Speaker 1: durst not return to their wives and their children. And
- 0:30Speaker 1: having tarried in the wilderness, and having discovered the daughters
- 0:33Speaker 1: of the Lamanites, they laid and watched them. And when
- 0:37Speaker 1: there were but few of them gathered together to dance,
- 0:41Speaker 1: they came forth out of their secret places and took
- 0:43Speaker 1: them and carried them into the wilderness Yea twenty and
- 0:47Speaker 1: four of the daughters of the Lamanites they carried into
- 0:50Speaker 1: the wilderness. And it came to pass that when the
- 0:53Speaker 1: Lamanites found that their daughters had been missing, they were
- 0:56Speaker 1: angry with the people of Limhai, for they thought it
- 0:59Speaker 1: was the peaceeople of Limhai. Therefore they sent their armies
- 1:03Speaker 1: forth Yea. Even the king himself went before his people,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and they went up to the land of Nephi to
- 1:09Speaker 1: destroy the people of Limhai. And now Limhai had discovered
- 1:13Speaker 1: them from the tower, even all their preparations for war
- 1:16Speaker 1: did he discover. Therefore, he gathered his people together and
- 1:19Speaker 1: laid weight for them in the fields and in the forests.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when the Lamanites had
- 1:25Speaker 1: come up, that the people of Limhai began to fall
- 1:28Speaker 1: upon them from their waiting places and began to slay them.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the battle became exceedingly sore,
- 1:34Speaker 1: for they fought like lions for their prey. And it
- 1:38Speaker 1: came to pass that the people of Limhai began to
- 1:40Speaker 1: drive the Lamanites before them. Yet they were not half
- 1:43Speaker 1: so numerous as the Lamanites, but they fought for their lives,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and for their wives and for their children. Therefore they
- 1:50Speaker 1: exerted themselves, and like dragons did they fight. And it
- 1:54Speaker 1: came to pass that they found the king of the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Lamanites among the number of their dead. Yet he was not,
- 2:00Speaker 1: having been wounded and left upon the ground. So speedy
- 2:03Speaker 1: was the flight of his people, and they took him
- 2:06Speaker 1: and bound up his wounds, and brought him before Limhai
- 2:09Speaker 1: and said, behold, here is the king of the Lamanites. He,
- 2:12Speaker 1: having received a wound, has fallen among their dead, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: they have left him. And behold, we have brought him
- 2:18Speaker 1: before you, and now let us slay him. But Limhai said,
- 2:22Speaker 1: unto them, ye shall not slay him, but bring him
- 2:25Speaker 1: hither that I may see him. And they brought him,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and Limhai said, unto him, what cause hath ye to
- 2:32Speaker 1: come up to war against my people? Behold, my people
- 2:35Speaker 1: have not broken the oath that I made unto you.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Therefore why should ye break the oath which ye made
- 2:41Speaker 1: unto my people? And now the king said, I have
- 2:45Speaker 1: broken the oath because thy people did carry away the
- 2:48Speaker 1: daughters of my people. Therefore, in my anger I did
- 2:51Speaker 1: cause my people to come up to war against thy people.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And now Limhai had heard nothing concerning this matter. Therefore
- 2:58Speaker 1: he said, I will search my people, and whosoever has
- 3:01Speaker 1: done this thing shall perish. Therefore he caused a search
- 3:05Speaker 1: to be made among his people. Now, when Gideon had
- 3:09Speaker 1: heard these things, he being the king's captain, he went
- 3:12Speaker 1: forth and said, unto the king, I pray thee forbear
- 3:16Speaker 1: and do not search this people, and lay not this
- 3:19Speaker 1: thing to their charge. For do ye not remember the
- 3:22Speaker 1: priests of thy father, whom this people sought to destroy?
- 3:25Speaker 1: And are they not in the wilderness? And are not
- 3:27Speaker 1: they the ones who have stolen the daughters of the Lamanites.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And now behold and tell the king of these things
- 3:34Speaker 1: that he may tell his people that they may be
- 3:36Speaker 1: pacified towards us. For behold, they are already preparing to
- 3:40Speaker 1: come against us. And behold also there are but few
- 3:42Speaker 1: of us. And behold they come with their numerous hosts,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and accept the king doth pacify them towards us, We
- 3:49Speaker 1: must perish, for are not the words of a benediful
- 3:53Speaker 1: field which he prophesied against us? And all this because
- 3:56Speaker 1: we would not hearken unto the words of the Lord
- 3:58Speaker 1: and turn from our iniquities. And now let us pacify
- 4:02Speaker 1: the king, and we fulfill the oath which we have
- 4:04Speaker 1: made unto him. For it is better that we should
- 4:07Speaker 1: be in bondage than that we should lose our lives. Therefore,
- 4:10Speaker 1: let us put a stop to the shedding of so
- 4:12Speaker 1: much blood. And now Limhai told the king all the
- 4:16Speaker 1: things concerning his father and the priests, that had fled
- 4:19Speaker 1: into the wilderness and attributed the care in a way
- 4:21Speaker 1: of their daughters to them. And it came to pass
- 4:24Speaker 1: that the king was pacified towards his people, and he
- 4:28Speaker 1: said unto them, let us go forth to meet my
- 4:31Speaker 1: people without arms, and I swear unto you with an
- 4:34Speaker 1: oath that my people shall not slay thy people. And
- 4:37Speaker 1: it came to pass that they followed the king and
- 4:40Speaker 1: went forth without arms to meet the Lamanites. And it
- 4:43Speaker 1: came to pass that they did meet the Lamanites, and
- 4:46Speaker 1: the king of the Lamanites did bow himself down before them,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and did plead in behalf of the people of Limhai.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And when the Lamanites saw the people of Limhai that
- 4:55Speaker 1: they were without arms, they had compassion on them and
- 4:58Speaker 1: were pacified towards them, and returned with their king in
- 5:02Speaker 1: peace to their own land Mosaiah, chapter twenty one. And
- 5:09Speaker 1: it came to pass that Limhai and his people returned
- 5:11Speaker 1: to the city of Nephi and began to dwell in
- 5:13Speaker 1: the land again in peace. And it came to pass
- 5:16Speaker 1: that after many days, the Lamanites began again to be
- 5:19Speaker 1: stirred up in anger against the Nephites, and they began
- 5:22Speaker 1: to come into the borders of the land round about.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Now they durst not slay them because of the oath
- 5:27Speaker 1: which their king had made unto Limhai. But they would
- 5:30Speaker 1: smite them on their cheeks and exercise authority over them,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and began to put heavy burdens upon their backs and
- 5:37Speaker 1: drive them as they would a dumb ass yea. All
- 5:40Speaker 1: this was done that the word of the Lord might
- 5:42Speaker 1: be fulfilled. And now the afflictions of the Nephites were great,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and there was no way that they could deliver themselves
- 5:49Speaker 1: out of their hands, for the Lamanites had surrounded them
- 5:53Speaker 1: on every side. And it came to pass that the
- 5:55Speaker 1: people began to murmur with the king because of their afflictions,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and they began to be desiedrus to go against them
- 6:01Speaker 1: to battle. And they did afflict the king sorely with
- 6:04Speaker 1: their complaints. Therefore he granted unto them that they should
- 6:07Speaker 1: do according to their desires. And they gathered themselves together
- 6:11Speaker 1: again and put on their armor, and went forth against
- 6:14Speaker 1: the Lamanites to drive them out of their land. And
- 6:17Speaker 1: it came to pass that the Lamanites did beat them
- 6:20Speaker 1: and drove them back, and slew many of them, and
- 6:23Speaker 1: Now there was a great mourning and lamentation among the
- 6:27Speaker 1: people of Limhai, the widow mourning for her husband, the
- 6:31Speaker 1: son and the daughter mourning for their father, and the
- 6:34Speaker 1: brothers for their brethren. Now there were a great many
- 6:38Speaker 1: widows in the land, and they did cry mightily from
- 6:41Speaker 1: day to day, for a great fear of the Lamanites
- 6:43Speaker 1: had come upon them. And it came to pass that
- 6:46Speaker 1: their continual cries did stir up the remainder of the
- 6:49Speaker 1: people of Limhai to anger against the Lamanites. And they
- 6:53Speaker 1: went again to battle, but they were driven back again,
- 6:56Speaker 1: suffering much loss. Yea, they went again even the third
- 7:01Speaker 1: time and suffered in the like manner. And those that
- 7:04Speaker 1: were not slain returned again to the city of Nephi.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And they did humble themselves even to the dust, subjecting
- 7:11Speaker 1: themselves to the yoke of bondage, submitting themselves to be
- 7:14Speaker 1: smitten and to be driven to and fro and burdened
- 7:17Speaker 1: according to the desires of their enemies. And they did
- 7:21Speaker 1: humble themselves even in the depths of humility, and they
- 7:24Speaker 1: did cry mightily to God. Yea, even all the day
- 7:27Speaker 1: long did they cry unto their God, that he would
- 7:30Speaker 1: deliver them out of their afflictions. And now the Lord
- 7:34Speaker 1: was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities. Nevertheless,
- 7:38Speaker 1: the Lord did hear their cries and began to soften
- 7:41Speaker 1: the hearts of the Lamanites, that they began to ease
- 7:44Speaker 1: their burdens. Yet the Lord did not see fit to
- 7:47Speaker 1: deliver them out of bondage. And it came to pass
- 7:51Speaker 1: that they began to prosper by degrees in the land,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and began to raise grain more abundantly, and flocks and herds,
- 7:57Speaker 1: that they did not suffer with hunger. Now there was
- 8:00Speaker 1: a great number of women, more than there was of men. Therefore,
- 8:03Speaker 1: King Limhai commanded that every man should impart to the
- 8:06Speaker 1: support of the widows and their children, that they might
- 8:09Speaker 1: not perish with hunger. And this they did because of
- 8:12Speaker 1: the greatness of their number that had been slain. Now
- 8:15Speaker 1: the people of Limhai kept together in a body as
- 8:18Speaker 1: much as it was possible, and secured their gray and
- 8:20Speaker 1: their flocks. And the king himself did not trust his
- 8:24Speaker 1: person without the walls of the city unless he took
- 8:26Speaker 1: his guards with him, fearing that he might by some
- 8:29Speaker 1: means fall into the hands of the Lamanites, and he
- 8:32Speaker 1: caused that his people should watch the land round about,
- 8:35Speaker 1: that by some means they might take those priests that
- 8:38Speaker 1: fled into the wilderness, who had stolen the daughters of
- 8:41Speaker 1: the Lamanites, and that had caused such a great destruction
- 8:45Speaker 1: to come upon them. For they were desirous to take them,
- 8:48Speaker 1: that they might punish them. For they had come into
- 8:51Speaker 1: the land of Nephi by night and carried off their
- 8:54Speaker 1: grain in many of their precious things. Therefore they laid
- 8:57Speaker 1: weight for them. And it came to pass that there
- 9:00Speaker 1: was no more disturbance between the Lamanites and the people
- 9:03Speaker 1: of Limhai, even until the time that Amon and his
- 9:06Speaker 1: brethren came into the land. And the king, having been
- 9:10Speaker 1: without the gates of the city with his guard, discovered
- 9:13Speaker 1: Amon and his brethren, and supposing them to be priests
- 9:16Speaker 1: of Noah, therefore he caused that they should be taken
- 9:19Speaker 1: and bound and cast into prison. And had they been
- 9:22Speaker 1: the priests of Noah, he would have caused that they
- 9:25Speaker 1: should be put to death. But when he found that
- 9:28Speaker 1: they were not, but that they were his brethren and
- 9:31Speaker 1: had come from the land of Zarahemla, he was filled
- 9:33Speaker 1: with exceedingly great joy. Now King Limhai had assent, previous
- 9:38Speaker 1: to the coming of Amen, a small number of men
- 9:40Speaker 1: to search for the land of Zarahemla. But they could
- 9:43Speaker 1: not find it, and they were lost in the wilderness. Nevertheless,
- 9:48Speaker 1: they did find a land which had been peopled, Yea,
- 9:51Speaker 1: a land which was covered with dry bones, Yea, a
- 9:54Speaker 1: land which had been peopled and which had been destroyed.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And they, having supposed it to be the land of Zarahemla,
- 10:01Speaker 1: returned to the land of Nephi, having arrived on the
- 10:04Speaker 1: borders of the land not many days before the coming
- 10:06Speaker 1: of Amine. And they brought a record with them, even
- 10:10Speaker 1: a record of the people whose bones they had found,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and it was engraven on plates of ore. And now
- 10:17Speaker 1: Limhai was again filled with joy in learning from the
- 10:19Speaker 1: mouth of Amon that King Mosiah had a gift from
- 10:22Speaker 1: God whereby he could interpret such engravings. Yea and Ammon
- 10:27Speaker 1: also did rejoice. Yet Amen and his brethren were filled
- 10:31Speaker 1: with sorrow because so many of their brethren had been slain,
- 10:34Speaker 1: and also that King Noah and his priests had caused
- 10:37Speaker 1: the people to commit so many sins and iniquities against God.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And they also did mourn for the death of Abinedai,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and also for the departure of Alma and the people
- 10:46Speaker 1: that went with him, who had formed a church of
- 10:48Speaker 1: God through the strength and power of God and faith
- 10:51Speaker 1: on the words which had been spoken by Abinedai Yea.
- 10:54Speaker 1: They did mourn for their departure, for they knew not
- 10:57Speaker 1: whither they had fled. Now they would have gladly joined
- 11:00Speaker 1: with them, for they themselves had entered into a covenant
- 11:03Speaker 1: with God to serve him and keep his commandments. And
- 11:06Speaker 1: now since the coming of Amen, King lim Hi had
- 11:09Speaker 1: also entered into a covenant with God and also many
- 11:12Speaker 1: of his people to serve him and keep his commandments.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And it came to pass that King Lemhai and many
- 11:19Speaker 1: of his people were desirous to be baptized, But there
- 11:22Speaker 1: was none in the land that had authority from God,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and Ammon declined doing this thing, considering himself an unworthy servant. Therefore,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they did not at that time form themselves into a church,
- 11:35Speaker 1: waiting upon the spirit of the Lord. Now they were
- 11:38Speaker 1: desirous to become, even as Alma and his brethren who
- 11:40Speaker 1: had fled into the wilderness, they were desirous to be
- 11:44Speaker 1: baptized as a witness and a testimony that they were
- 11:46Speaker 1: willing to serve God with all their hearts. Nevertheless, they
- 11:50Speaker 1: did prolong the time, and an account of their baptism
- 11:53Speaker 1: shall be given hereafter. And now all the study of
- 11:56Speaker 1: Amin and his people and King Lemhai and his people
- 12:00Speaker 1: was to deliver themselves out of the hands of the
- 12:02Speaker 1: Lamanites and from bondage Mosiah, chapter twenty two. And now
- 12:10Speaker 1: it came to pass that Ammon and King Lmhai began
- 12:13Speaker 1: to consult with the people how they should deliver themselves
- 12:16Speaker 1: out of bondage. And even they did cause that all
- 12:18Speaker 1: the people should gather themselves together. And this they did,
- 12:22Speaker 1: that they might have the voice of the people concerning
- 12:24Speaker 1: the matter. And it came to pass that they could
- 12:27Speaker 1: find no way to deliver themselves out of bondage, except
- 12:30Speaker 1: it were to take their women and children, and their flocks,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and their herds, and their tents and depart into the wilderness.
- 12:36Speaker 1: For the Lamanites being so numerous, it was impossible for
- 12:39Speaker 1: the people of Limhai to contend with them, thinking to
- 12:41Speaker 1: deliver themselves out of bondage by the sword. Now it
- 12:45Speaker 1: came to pass that Gideon went forth and stood before
- 12:48Speaker 1: the king and said unto him, now O King, thou
- 12:50Speaker 1: hast hitherto hearkened unto my words many times when we
- 12:53Speaker 1: have been contending with our brethren, the Lamanites. And now
- 12:57Speaker 1: o King, if thou hast not found me to be
- 12:59Speaker 1: an unprofitable sir, or if thou hast hitherto listened to
- 13:02Speaker 1: my words in any degree, and they have been of
- 13:04Speaker 1: service to thee, even so I desire that thou wouldst
- 13:07Speaker 1: listen to my words at this time, and I will
- 13:10Speaker 1: be thy servant and deliver this people out of bondage.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And the King granted unto him that he might speak,
- 13:16Speaker 1: And Gideon said, unto him, behold the back pass through
- 13:20Speaker 1: the back wall on the back side of the city.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The Lamanites or the guards of the Lamanites, by night
- 13:25Speaker 1: are drunken. Therefore, let us send a proclamation among all
- 13:29Speaker 1: this people, that they gather together their flocks and herds,
- 13:32Speaker 1: that they may drive them into the wilderness by night.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And I will go, according to thy command and pay
- 13:37Speaker 1: the last tribute of wine to the Lamanites, and they
- 13:40Speaker 1: will be drunken, and we will pass through the secret
- 13:43Speaker 1: pass on the left of their camp. When they are
- 13:45Speaker 1: drunken and asleep. Thus we will depart with our women
- 13:48Speaker 1: and our children, our flocks, and our herds into the wilderness,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and we will travel around the land of Shalam. And
- 13:55Speaker 1: it came to pass that the king hearkened unto the
- 13:57Speaker 1: words of Gideon, and King Lemhigh caused that his people
- 14:01Speaker 1: should gather their flocks together, and he sent the tribute
- 14:04Speaker 1: of wine to the Lamanites, and he also sent more
- 14:06Speaker 1: wine as a present unto them, And they did drink
- 14:09Speaker 1: freely of the wine which King Lmhi did send unto them.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the people of King
- 14:14Speaker 1: Limhi did depart by night into the wilderness with their
- 14:17Speaker 1: flocks and their herds. And they went round about the
- 14:19Speaker 1: land of Shyleam in the wilderness, and bent their course
- 14:22Speaker 1: towards the land of Zarahemla, being led by Ammon and
- 14:25Speaker 1: his brethren. And they had taken all their gold and
- 14:28Speaker 1: silver and their precious things which they could carry, and
- 14:31Speaker 1: also their provisions with them into the wilderness. And they
- 14:34Speaker 1: pursued their journey, and after being many days in the wilderness,
- 14:39Speaker 1: they arrived in the land of Sarahemla and joined Mosiah's
- 14:42Speaker 1: people and became his subjects. And it came to pass
- 14:45Speaker 1: that Mosiah received them with joy, and he also received
- 14:49Speaker 1: their records, and also the records which had been found
- 14:51Speaker 1: by the people of Limhai. And now it came to
- 14:54Speaker 1: pass when the Lamanites had found that the people of
- 14:56Speaker 1: Limhai had departed out of the land by night, that
- 14:59Speaker 1: they sent an army into the wilderness to pursue them.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And after they had pursued them two days, they could
- 15:05Speaker 1: no longer follow their tracks. Therefore they were lost in
- 15:08Speaker 1: the wilderness Mosiah, chapter twenty three. Now Alma having been
- 15:15Speaker 1: warned of the Lord that the armies of King Noah
- 15:17Speaker 1: would come upon them, and having made it known to
- 15:19Speaker 1: his people, therefore they gathered together their flocks and took
- 15:23Speaker 1: of their grain and departed into the wilderness before the
- 15:26Speaker 1: armies of King Noah. And the Lord did strengthen them
- 15:29Speaker 1: that the people of King Noah could not overtake them
- 15:32Speaker 1: to destroy them. And they fled eight days journey into
- 15:35Speaker 1: the wilderness. And they came to a land, yea even
- 15:38Speaker 1: a very beautiful and pleasant land, a land of pure water.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And they pitched their tents and began to till the ground,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and began to build buildings. Yea, they were industrious and
- 15:48Speaker 1: did labor exceedingly, and the people were desirous that Alma
- 15:51Speaker 1: should be their king, for he was beloved by his people.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But he said unto them, behold, it is not expedient
- 15:58Speaker 1: that we should have a king. For thus saith the Lord,
- 16:01Speaker 1: ye shall not to steam one flesh above another, or
- 16:04Speaker 1: one man shall not think himself above another. Therefore, I
- 16:08Speaker 1: say unto you, it is not expedient that ye should
- 16:10Speaker 1: have a king. Nevertheless, if it were possible that ye
- 16:13Speaker 1: could always have just men to be your kings, it
- 16:16Speaker 1: would be well for you to have a king. But
- 16:19Speaker 1: remember the iniquity of King Noah and his priests. And
- 16:23Speaker 1: I myself was caught in a snare and did many
- 16:25Speaker 1: things which were abominable in the side of the Lord,
- 16:28Speaker 1: which caused me sore repentance. Nevertheless, after much tribulation, the
- 16:32Speaker 1: Lord did hear my cries and did answer my prayers,
- 16:35Speaker 1: and has made me an instrument in his hands in
- 16:38Speaker 1: bringing so many of you to a knowledge of his truth. Nevertheless,
- 16:41Speaker 1: in this I do not glory, for I am unworthy
- 16:43Speaker 1: to glory of myself. And now I say unto you
- 16:47Speaker 1: Ye have been oppressed by King Noah, and have been
- 16:49Speaker 1: in bondage to him and his priests, and have been
- 16:51Speaker 1: brought into iniquity by them. Therefore ye were bound with
- 16:55Speaker 1: the bands of iniquity. And now as ye have been
- 16:58Speaker 1: delivered by the power of God, out of these bonds,
- 17:01Speaker 1: yea even out of the hands of King Noah and
- 17:04Speaker 1: his people, and also from the bonds of iniquity. Even
- 17:07Speaker 1: so I desire that ye should stand fast in this
- 17:10Speaker 1: liberty wherewith ye have been made free, and that ye
- 17:13Speaker 1: trust no man to be a king over you, and
- 17:16Speaker 1: also trust no one to be your teacher nor your minister,
- 17:20Speaker 1: except he be a man of God, walking in his
- 17:22Speaker 1: ways and keeping his commandments. Thus did Alma teach his
- 17:26Speaker 1: people that every man should love his neighbor as himself,
- 17:30Speaker 1: that there should be no contention among them. And now
- 17:33Speaker 1: Alma was their high priest, he being the founder of
- 17:36Speaker 1: their church. And it came to pass that none received
- 17:39Speaker 1: authority to preach or to teach, except it were by
- 17:42Speaker 1: him from God. Therefore he consecrated all their priests and
- 17:46Speaker 1: all their teachers, and none were consecrated except they were
- 17:50Speaker 1: just men. Therefore they did watch over their people and
- 17:53Speaker 1: did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness. And it
- 17:57Speaker 1: came to pass that they began to prosper excs eadingly
- 18:00Speaker 1: in the land, and they called the land Helim. And
- 18:04Speaker 1: it came to pass that they did multiply and prosper
- 18:06Speaker 1: exceedingly in the land of Helim. And they built a city,
- 18:09Speaker 1: which they called the City of Helim. Nevertheless, the Lord
- 18:13Speaker 1: seeth fit to chasten his people. Yea, he trieth their
- 18:16Speaker 1: patience and their faith. Nevertheless, whosoever putteth his trust in him,
- 18:22Speaker 1: the same shall be lifted up at the last day, Yea.
- 18:25Speaker 1: And thus it was with this people. For behold, I
- 18:29Speaker 1: will show unto you that they were brought into bondage,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and none could deliver them but the Lord their God, Yea,
- 18:35Speaker 1: even the God of Abraham and Isaac and of Jacob.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And it came to pass that he did deliver them,
- 18:41Speaker 1: and he did show forth his mighty power unto them.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And great were their rejoicings. For behold, it came to
- 18:48Speaker 1: pass that while they were in the land of Helim YEA,
- 18:50Speaker 1: in the city of Helim, while tilling the land round about,
- 18:54Speaker 1: behold an army of the Lamanites was in the borders
- 18:57Speaker 1: of the land. And it came to pass that the
- 18:59Speaker 1: brethren of Almah fled from their fields and gathered themselves
- 19:02Speaker 1: together in the city of Helim. And they were much
- 19:05Speaker 1: frightened because of the appearance of the Lamanites. But Almah
- 19:09Speaker 1: went forth and stood among them and exhorted them that
- 19:12Speaker 1: they should not be frightened, but that they should remember
- 19:15Speaker 1: the Lord, their God, and he would deliver them. Therefore,
- 19:18Speaker 1: they hushed their fears and began to cry unto the
- 19:21Speaker 1: Lord that he would soften the hearts of the Lamanites,
- 19:24Speaker 1: that they would spare them and their wives and their children.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the Lord did soften
- 19:29Speaker 1: the hearts of the Lamanites, and Alma and his brethren
- 19:32Speaker 1: went forth and delivered themselves up into their hands, and
- 19:36Speaker 1: the Lamanites took possession of the land of Helim. Now,
- 19:40Speaker 1: the armies of the Lamanites, which had followed after the
- 19:42Speaker 1: people of King Limhai, had been lost in the wilderness
- 19:45Speaker 1: for many days, And to behold, they had found those
- 19:49Speaker 1: priests of King Noah in a place which they called Amulan,
- 19:53Speaker 1: and they had begun to possess the land of Amulan
- 19:55Speaker 1: and had begun to till the ground. Now the name
- 19:58Speaker 1: of the leader of those priests was Amulon, and it
- 20:02Speaker 1: came to pass that Amulan did plead with the Lamanites.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And they also sent forth their wives, who were the
- 20:07Speaker 1: daughters of the Lamanites, to plead with their brethren that
- 20:09Speaker 1: they should not destroy their husbands. And the Lamanites had
- 20:13Speaker 1: compassion on Amulan and his brethren and did not destroy
- 20:16Speaker 1: them because of their wives, and Amulan and his brethren
- 20:19Speaker 1: to join the Lamanites. And they were traveling in the
- 20:22Speaker 1: wilderness in search of the land of Nephi when they
- 20:25Speaker 1: discovered the land of Helim, which was possessed by Alma
- 20:28Speaker 1: and his brethren. And it came to pass that the
- 20:31Speaker 1: Lamanites promised unto Alma and his brethren that if they
- 20:34Speaker 1: would show them the way which led to the land
- 20:36Speaker 1: of Nephi, that they would grant unto them their lives
- 20:39Speaker 1: and their liberty. But after Alma had shown them the
- 20:42Speaker 1: way that led to the land of Nephi, the Lamanites
- 20:45Speaker 1: would not keep their promise, but they set guards round
- 20:48Speaker 1: about the land of Helim over Alma and his brethren
- 20:52Speaker 1: and the remainder of them went to the land of Nephi,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and a part of them returned to the land of Helim,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and also brought with them the wives and the children
- 21:00Speaker 1: of the guards who had been left in the land.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And the King of the Lamanites had granted unto Ambulon
- 21:06Speaker 1: that he should be a king and a ruler over
- 21:08Speaker 1: his people who were in the land of Helium. Nevertheless,
- 21:12Speaker 1: he should have no power to do anything contrary to
- 21:14Speaker 1: the will of the King of the Lamanites and of Mosiah,
- 21:20Speaker 1: Chapters twenty through twenty three.
