- 0:18Return of Boors podcast March twenty seventh, twenty twenty four. Huskers are still
- 0:26winless in the NCAA tournament. Hunters are nicky Austin Rose Code of Free Tech
- 0:32Guys, Quick question off the top. Have you guys ever had the spicy
- 0:38Kso funyans that just came out? I have not. I can't say I'm
- 0:43a big funion eater. The best chips I've ever eaten. I love funions,
- 0:48KSO, I love spicy. You put it all together, it's phenomenal.
- 0:54Must get in the form of a funion. I just I have my
- 0:59doubts. Mmm. I'm sitting here munch on a bag right now as we
- 1:03speak. I also recommend a double crunch ruffles, honey mustard ate a whole
- 1:10bag earlier. Oh man, how'd that combined with your mile time that you
- 1:15got done? I'm done running miles? Done? Paid it off? Yep,
- 1:21I'm done. What were you running miles for? Last year? The
- 1:25heat beat the Celtics and I bet my buddy you have to run a mile
- 1:29a week until you get under sevent ten minutes. Well, I've been running
- 1:33a mile ever since then, and you got this weekend. I paid it
- 1:36off, I'm done. You got under seventy ten. Huh No, No,
- 1:40I didn't buy it buy out. Oh my god, yeah, I
- 1:47was done. Well, you could have gotten there. He would never have
- 1:51gotten there. Not a chance. I'm not running another mile of my life.
- 1:55I'll tell you that. I will say this. A lot has happened
- 2:01since our March Madness preview of the bracket week and a half a good so
- 2:10let's it's gonna be obviously mostly basketball talk, but gosh was the new ad
- 2:21stuff that all came out, That's all that was when that was right after
- 2:24we recorded the pod. Yep, So Wednesday happens or sorry, Sunday happens.
- 2:31We get announced a new athletic director in Troy Dannon, who comes from
- 2:38the PAC twelve, Washington from for about what eight months it was six months?
- 2:42Eight months, six months I believe before that was at Tulane hired Willie
- 2:46Fritz, who has turned that football program around. And yeah, that all
- 2:53came before Nebraska plays their first game. And that's obviously very big news at
- 3:00a very I guess unique time, and it came very quick after Trev leaves
- 3:07for a and m so initial reaction, I mean I was like, all
- 3:12right, let's see what this guy's about. Well, in this first however
- 3:15many hours, he goes and speaks to the football team in Lincoln, and
- 3:20then he's in Memphis for the first round game on Friday, and then we
- 3:28hear him talk just recently over the last couple of days in his introductory press
- 3:31conference and kind of explain himself what he's about. I like the guy,
- 3:38like, I'm not like over the top eight. You know what. Here's
- 3:42the thing with that directors they have a very big but also a very little
- 3:49minimal impact I guess on the results of games, but they have a very
- 3:52big piece as to how you get there. And that's with any business or
- 3:55any organization. Leadership matters as we're seeing at the University of Nebraska, and
- 4:01I think getting somebody that knows what they're doing and has a strong passion for
- 4:05what they believe in one I guess know what they believe in, and then
- 4:10being able to get the program the university in that direction, I think is
- 4:15very important. And it seems like we have a guy that fits that mold.
- 4:19I thought Trent fit that mold when he came into so as initial opening
- 4:26gut check of Troy Danner. How much how much more did he make coming
- 4:34here than Washington. I actually have not tuck into the money side of things,
- 4:42but I'm guessing obviously more. He was not at Washington very long,
- 4:46so there clearly was a big incentive. He's from Iowa, so he is
- 4:54getting back to the Midwest, coming back closer to home. I don't know,
- 5:00Austin, you're in the dark. My internet can actually has questionable upstairs.
- 5:08No, I feel good about the like, yeah, you said coming
- 5:12back Midwest. Honestly, Trump did a pretty good job beliving on decent groundwork.
- 5:17You know, Amy was extended, Fred was extended, Rules got along
- 5:21contract, boltender long contract, and Cook's going to be here as long as
- 5:25he wants. But those extensions came under the interrom That's what makes it interest.
- 5:30Yes, so all he has to do is fundraise and be likable and
- 5:33keep his head coaches happy. At this point, Yeah, and it seems
- 5:43very I guess, straightforward, but at the same time like we're in an
- 5:48error. As we've talked about of sports, especially college football, but of
- 5:53nil transfer portal. You have to be and know the right people. And
- 5:58from his background, it seems like he's very invested in all these different football
- 6:00committees, the Division one transformation committee, Like he has that resume of what
- 6:08you want to see out of an AD, So again, overall very positive.
- 6:11I also liked the way he spoke. I thought he's very direct.
- 6:13I thought he was very passionate. So I think those are all positive.
- 6:17But then again this goes back to my comment, I just don't having a
- 6:21great AD does not translate to wins on the court, on the field.
- 6:27It helps, it does help keep your you know, your talent around your
- 6:31talent, and yes, especially with NIL like you have a lot bigger influence.
- 6:36I think the direction of a university with what they believe in. And
- 6:42obviously Trev's direction was very different than what some of the other people at the
- 6:48top thought, so we will see. It sounded like Troy was almost what
- 6:55they made it sound like, clicked from the get go and love at first
- 6:59sight and let's roll with it. Sometimes ads like an offensive lineman. If
- 7:04you know their name, it's not good. It's not a bad, terrible
- 7:09way to put it. It is interesting that they hired an AD before the
- 7:13president. That's that part still does kind of I do find it still interesting.
- 7:18Yep, and it has that officially been named or I know the reports,
- 7:25we're all the lead candidate, nothing nothing of right, like, nothing
- 7:31definite, but the lead candidate was out there, So yeah, that is
- 7:35that is interesting. But I also think you're athletic director, especially when it
- 7:42comes athletics. We're in the know a lot more on that anyways, just
- 7:46as media and entertainment value, I don't think there's as much there with the
- 7:50president, but it was it was very interesting to hear how quick That was
- 7:58the first thing that I thought, without knowing anything but singing the guy's name
- 8:01was I don't know who this is and he's from the PAC twelve. I
- 8:03was like, oh shit. And then it turned out not another Bill Moose,
- 8:11which, to be fair, our last ad came from the Summit League,
- 8:15so yep, pack told a step up, barely but a step up
- 8:22and Dak Yeah, you're right, he did play for a title football.
- 8:26It was it was interesting to hear, Oh god, why am I forgetting
- 8:33his name? Washington coaches now at Alabama did Bor Yeah, kylen Bor like
- 8:39his comments about when they hired Danon like it seemed very similar to rule like
- 8:46like the direction that he believed in and and then Caylen obviously gets the job
- 8:52at Alabama, which who wouldn't take that? So did you hear Fred Hoiberg's
- 8:58comments on the Royce troy Is higher, which were, uh, so he
- 9:03used to ref so before he was the a D at Tulane, he was
- 9:09the a D at Northern Iowa. Before that, he was in charge of
- 9:13like the Iowa State girls basketball something. And but before that he used to
- 9:20ref Iowa high school boys basketball. And he apparently reffed some of Fred's games,
- 9:24and so Fred gave him hope he's a better ad than he was a
- 9:28basketball ref or something like that. That's pretty good. Wow, that's a
- 9:33jump from the women's whatever he did there. The a D. I mean,
- 9:41just just thinking of Nebraska high school athletics. To you, if you're
- 9:46if you're you're you're pretty high up in the n s A A in Iowa
- 9:50whatever the Iowa equivalent is like, if you're in charge of a lot of
- 9:54that stuff. So I mean, that's not to me Awa, Yeah,
- 10:00but it seems like a good dude. And so then let's fast forward here
- 10:05to Friday when I went down to Memphis, and I'm glad I didn't you
- 10:15still should have. It was a blast, And I'll get more into the
- 10:18details of the scene in the takeaway. But we go there. We go
- 10:22to this restaurant. First place that we sit down at and pretty big restaurant,
- 10:28pretty well known in Memphis, a barbecue place. They say, yeah,
- 10:31I go to the back, like there's a bunch of tables back there,
- 10:33there's like multiple floors like or whatever. Go to the back, find
- 10:37an open table. We sit down. Sure enough, two tables over is
- 10:43Troy Dannon and Chris co Borick and a bunch of other people eating in that
- 10:50inner circle two tables over and then all of their kids at the table next
- 10:54to them in between us. So we're like, huh. So we sat
- 10:58there and basically launch at the barbecue plays right next to our new ad and
- 11:01in our president didn't go and say anything to them, but the place was
- 11:07filled, Like the restaurant itself was like eighty percent Husker fans like trying it
- 11:11out, it was. It was pretty pretty incredible, Like I can't think
- 11:15of a restaurant in Nebraska that would be comparable how big it was. But
- 11:18it was a big place and it was filled with Nebraska fans at noon on
- 11:24the day before the game. The day we played, that looked like a
- 11:28hell of a scene down there. Before the game, I listened to the
- 11:35Mismatch podcast which is on the Ringer and it's like a national NBA podcast,
- 11:39and one of the guys is a Memphis guy, and he said it was
- 11:41just crawling with freaking corn Huskers it And so, as you guys know,
- 11:50I've been to a lot of road games and they've seen Nebraska fans take over
- 11:58road games. This is obviousally eight neutral sites where there were eight teams at
- 12:05the site. Now one of those is like Longwood and colegates, like,
- 12:11I get it, but there were teams playing, so Clemson, New Mexico
- 12:16were kind of going on at the time, Baylor was down there, Texas
- 12:20A and m obviously Houston. Like I'm not over exaggerating when I was like
- 12:26ninety five percent of the fans that you saw walking around were Husker fans on
- 12:30the streets, restaurants, bars. The setup they have with the arena and
- 12:35Beale Streets is absolutely perfect for that. You could ask for it's right,
- 12:41I mean, on the same block and it just yeah, flooded with Husker
- 12:46fans everywhere. The main bars couldn't stand in because there were Husker fans everywhere.
- 12:50We saw probably less than five A and M fans, and I'll bet
- 12:54you six hundred Husker fans. I mean that's not an over exaggeration of what
- 13:00that scene was like down there in the afternoon leading up to the game.
- 13:07Was on them on Trev. Trev did make an appearance by version by version
- 13:13of a piece of paper that got taped to the main street poll on Beale
- 13:20Street that said Trader Trev Nice. I mean it was, I mean right
- 13:26on the corner like video I took a video is pretty funny, but yeah,
- 13:33it just the experience itself was like one of the best I've been on
- 13:37I will say, on a road game and it's for a basketball game.
- 13:41And the arena itself. I'm not sure if everybody cares about the whole experience,
- 13:48but like it was ninety percent field. Of the people that were there,
- 13:50ninety percent of them were Husker face. Now, the arena is probably
- 13:54still about half field, little over half field, but it was Husker dominant.
- 14:00And those first seven eight minutes, oh god, well, I'll always
- 14:03have those first Oh my god, it was some of the best sentiments in
- 14:09my life all and at the game, like I've never reacted, not just
- 14:13me, all the Husker fans, Like you know, you go excited for
- 14:16football, like you'll jump up and down for an amazing catch or a touchdown,
- 14:20like you know how that goes. Just imagine doing that straight for like
- 14:24fifteen minutes. We were in the end zone and it was I mean,
- 14:30it was pure euphoria down there. I yeah. So yeah, wherever you're
- 14:33watching the game, I'm sure you got that same. Just people jumping around,
- 14:39screaming, going thus and then at the game, obviously you're cheering and
- 14:41yelling and on defense just screaming at the top of your lungs and like it
- 14:46was just the the that fifteen minutes you'll remember forever because that obviously, like
- 14:52I said, football, it's a played then a play, So you'll cheer
- 14:56for one play. Basketball, you'll cheer for a play, and then another
- 14:58play happened like right away, then another on right away, another one right
- 15:01away. It just constant and there's no time to like stop and think,
- 15:05like you're just you're just reacting constantly and it was great. It went like
- 15:11we have all the hype around case say that just like and many varies three
- 15:16threes in the first state minutes like it just was nuts and then what happened
- 15:22Hunter, That's all I wanted to share because then we just sat there.
- 15:26Then all my feelings of road games like it came back, and I just
- 15:31think we because you went to be honest, I think that's don't don't worry.
- 15:35I've heard that over that I'm the reason. I probably am. I
- 15:41also bet on it. That didn't help. I did bet on A and
- 15:45M like I have the whole year, so that I can't give that a
- 15:48reason why we lost. But I thess I couldn't have the energy. Oh
- 15:54my, I'm not kidding out the most fifteen minutes of watching game I've ever
- 15:58had, Holy and I where I listened to a couple of the other Husker
- 16:03recap pods, like the one I the Vision or the the Analogy. I
- 16:07really like it was like a classic movie any you think of any classic like
- 16:18true like not comeback story, but just building from the ground up and all
- 16:22this built up frustration and and like set up perfectly with all the way it
- 16:27was gonna go and the fans and like you get to the ending and then
- 16:30all of a sudden, it just collapses. And like the feeling was like
- 16:36Case, I mean Case doesn't speak great English, as we know, just
- 16:38kept saying the words sad in this boast game like like bingo, Like it
- 16:44was just sad. You weren't mad, you weren't like you were just sad,
- 16:48Like you weren't even depressed or disappointed. You just you just felt that
- 16:53it's not how you went. It was a great year. It was a
- 16:57great team. You watch the the all of or this is for us video
- 17:03Derek Walker m hm after the game, and I, you know, a
- 17:07little emotional. I was like, man, what a good ride. It
- 17:10was a good team, it was a good year. We just our defense
- 17:15just didn't get it done and their offense was freaking on fire. They couldn't
- 17:22miss well. And yeah, I don't want to relive the entire game on
- 17:27how it went. But like I was bored last week, So what did
- 17:30I do? I put together a scouting report or just a high level summary
- 17:36of A and M on what they had and what they do well. And
- 17:38you can obviously go and read, but I'm like, I want to know
- 17:41what each player does, Like I want to know everything about him. So
- 17:45when we get there, like, I want to know this is going well
- 17:48or not well. You start the game and Wade Taylor is answering fucking everything.
- 17:55He's a point shooter, which again is not it's not bad, but
- 18:00that's not good for Division one athletes. Like, no, forty percent for
- 18:03Division one college is good. So shoot four four, I'd still say that's
- 18:08an average. But he was their best three point shooter. So I was
- 18:11pissed that he was getting so many looks because he was their best one like
- 18:17he was, and we were letting him get looks. And that was what
- 18:19he did in the SEC tournament. That's how he's gotten hot. So I
- 18:23was pissed at that. But then to open the game, they have Solomon
- 18:29Washington, who's like a twenty four percent three point shooter, Buryer three four,
- 18:33he hit twelve three pointers all year long. Yes, and then Obaseeci
- 18:37number thirty five, the lefty, he buries two or three in times that
- 18:41I'm like, okay, we're coming back, we're getting there. Then he
- 18:44buries one. Then another guy that does not shoot it well at all,
- 18:48so big shot. Well, they were thirteen for twenty three on a team
- 18:51that shoots twenty six percent. I think seven point shooting team in the tournament.
- 18:56I believe three hundred and fifty second out of three hundred and sixty three
- 19:00in the country on the year. Like that sucks it just again, it's
- 19:03just sad, Like you don't game plan for that. Your game plan to
- 19:07let them shoot those threes and stack the paint to prevent them from using their
- 19:11athleticism to get to the and everybody, well, and everybody knows that,
- 19:18like including A and M. They know they don't play that well. They
- 19:22also know they're hot. We everybody knew they were hot offensively like what they
- 19:26did in the SEC tournament. Then you watch them turn around and play Houston
- 19:29and offensively they didn't shoot it as well, but like they still had a
- 19:33strong offensive performance against Houston, and Houston's more athletic than so A and M
- 19:41was a buzz side. I was scared of the matchup when I saw it,
- 19:45like it just it was scared. You look at some of the other
- 19:48nine seeds and eight season teams around there, you thought, maybe we could
- 19:52have got a better draw, But that's what the tournament is. You're going
- 19:55to get a tough team, and that's what happened. It's it. It's
- 19:59it just sucks that, like you said, with the team that we have
- 20:00this year just felt like a storybook ending and we didn't get it done.
- 20:07And like it can tell from all the guys just it was sad. It
- 20:11was just like, dang it. If you told me that case was going
- 20:15to start four for four for three and we were gonna have twenty points in
- 20:21the first seven minutes of the game, and we score eighty five points,
- 20:25I would say we win that game ten times out of ten. And it
- 20:29just tells you how hard it is to win well a game, but several
- 20:33games in the tournament against top notch talent day in and day out in that
- 20:40tournament. The last thing about the game that I thought was an interesting take
- 20:45that I heard, but also I mean, really really agreed. It's from
- 20:48moving forward to Nebraska basketball, Obviously, Fred Hoiberg has turned this thing around
- 20:53in a very short amount of time in the last year and a half.
- 20:57Prior to that, when Fred even was here, it was the worst Nebraska
- 21:02basketball has ever been. Don't forget two years ago we were six and twenty
- 21:06four twenty five under Fred and we were paying him the twelfth or thirteenth most
- 21:11dollars in the country in his contract, and it was to the point where
- 21:15it was very very very very very very like we wanted him gone. I
- 21:19wanted him fired like Trev stuck it out, let him stay. This turnaround
- 21:26happened because Fred adapted to what he needed to do to win in the Big
- 21:30Ten. Two years later, the turnaround happens. We're third in the Big
- 21:36Ten. We go undefeated at home in conference play, we win our first
- 21:41round for our quarterfinal game, get to the semi finals of the Big Ten
- 21:45tournament and do well. So that's like huge kudos to Fred's staff, the
- 21:52program, to the players, all of that. Here's what sucks. Big
- 21:56ten teams suck in the tournament. They have for several years now. We
- 22:02have two that are hanging on here this year in this Sweek sixteen. But
- 22:06I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the style of play that wins in
- 22:11the Big Ten does not carry over apples to apples into the tournament. Now,
- 22:15if you're good, you're a fucking damn good top five team. You're
- 22:18damn good top five team. But there's a reason why Big ten teams struggle
- 22:22in the tournament is because of this style that you play and bang up and
- 22:27go up against time after time in the Big Ten. And then when you
- 22:30get to the tournament you run into teams like Alabama and A and M and
- 22:36Kentucky who didn't shoot it well. But hell, even look at Oakland and
- 22:40Yale, these teams that like just play this different style and you're like,
- 22:45well, shit, now what And so I'm not saying that we need to
- 22:49play like them, because you can't. That's not sustainable in the Big Ten.
- 22:53We found that out. But that's the reality of what happened. I
- 22:56think is Big Ten teams just struggle because of how they're built and structured in
- 23:03the tournament against the majority of other teams in the country. Hmm, it's
- 23:14it's the best two days is a sporting event or four days and ever every
- 23:18single year, God damnatday. I just gave like a three minute speel and
- 23:22you just go off to go off the rate of the Yeah, I was
- 23:26thinking about how how fun that those two there's four days aren't watching that game
- 23:32that tournament? I mean, yes, I would agree. Each conference does
- 23:37have their own style. Like I think the Big Toll is pretty soft.
- 23:40I watched b y U and I was like, gosh, you guys are
- 23:42just a bunch of soft all right, man handled. I wouldn't say the
- 23:47Big Twelve this year for sure has proven themselves to be elites like any of
- 23:56these teams, and it makes a question whether Houston can do it. The
- 24:00Big East gets three in, they're all in, they're all high seat.
- 24:03It's just fascinating. I guess to think about the conferences in the style and
- 24:07then putting them all how do you form yourselves and how? Because now it's
- 24:11how the conference style matches up, not necessarily the individual teams, because you're
- 24:15right, you have to win in your conference to make the tournament. So
- 24:18you need to build your team to win the conference, not win the tournament.
- 24:22Which Red started out trying to build a team how he had built in
- 24:25the Big twelve that was able to win in the tournament, which Big twelve
- 24:30has had success. But now look at that style past for years now.
- 24:34I mean I'm not counting Houston. Houston is a Big twelve team, but
- 24:37they're they have the same style they brought over from Yeah, they're a new
- 24:41Big twelve team like your your traditionals, And look how Key, you panned
- 24:45out. Lookout, Texas made it. Thank god, Hey you made it,
- 24:49but not not well far in the tournament. So anyways, I just
- 24:56think moving forward, I think we're at a good spot, Like I think
- 24:57the program momentum right now that I guess leads us into this week and some
- 25:07of the departures and transfers that we've already heard about. Uh, Dak have
- 25:15the joy on Saturday night? Yeah, what the heck happened? There?
- 25:19Guys hang out with some of our lovely players and and just just have a
- 25:27have a blast with them at Berry's. That looked like yep, So Dak,
- 25:33I'll kind of let you explain Saturday night. You know, the guys
- 25:36get back after the game Friday, obviously season's over. You start to see
- 25:41that guys like that back out, So Dak take it away. Well,
- 25:45I was we were down there watching the Creanton game on the bottom floor down
- 25:48there, and uh my buddy could reached him and said, dude, Casey's
- 25:52up there, said no way. So I got there. I'm like,
- 25:53oh, Casey, what's up? And then he said he's talking to me.
- 25:57You know what, did I speak great English? And then then of
- 26:00course sorry, I'm gonna stop you. I still would wish i'd be a
- 26:04fly on the wall to hear your in Case's conversation because I don't think either
- 26:08of you speak great English. Continue and I said, damn, good season,
- 26:15Case like you. You were so much fun to watch. And then
- 26:18of course my drunk ass says, are you coming back? He says no.
- 26:23I said, dude, why not? And I thought, I was
- 26:25like, oh crap, he applied for an extension or something. Don't defend
- 26:33Dak we knew he I felt. I felt so bad, and then I
- 26:37was like, oh no. So then I then Alec came up behind him.
- 26:41I told him, and I was like, okay, I know this
- 26:42guy's not coming back. So I talked to him and stuff I said.
- 26:47I said, dude, you got so much bear as you were on.
- 26:48You started bad and you got a lot better. I'll give you props for
- 26:52that. And then he said, thanks a lot to do. That actually
- 26:56means a lot anyway. So then so then here comes the rink mask CJ.
- 27:03Wilcher and uh Juwan and I think Bryce Williams is with him, but
- 27:07he went somewhere else. After that, I was like, I don't want
- 27:10to talk to this asshole. Who's rink mass roommate? If I know he's
- 27:17a guy doesn't play much on that team. Who's who's the guy Sam doesn't
- 27:19play much ONNY not Holyburg Christian Sin. Maybe Sam, I don't someone does
- 27:27some bench writer. Anyway I can know him. I was talking to Rank
- 27:33first, which god damn this embarrassing, but I was like, I was
- 27:37like, dude, why don't you box out some games? Oh? No,
- 27:41not the best. I was like, okay, some games you boxed
- 27:44are great. Some games he didn't. I'll give you props when you box
- 27:45that you played great. And he actually we talked for quite a while anyway,
- 27:49so I was like hey, I was like, hey, are you
- 27:51coming back? He said, oh yeah, I'm coming back. So then
- 27:55I found Jawan and CJ. Later on. I was talking to him and
- 27:57I asked, I asked the jails, Hey, dude, were you actually
- 28:00sick during the only game? What was going on there? He said,
- 28:03oh yeah, do I was sick. I was like, so you're coming
- 28:04back? He's like, I don't know which, which I was like,
- 28:07okay, you're not. I was like, how about this, you go
- 28:11to Oklahoma? Wink wink, He's like, dude, yokahma fans and no,
- 28:15I just really think you'd fit well there. So I'm recruiting him to
- 28:18Oklahoma. Now that's that part of the story. And then I was talking
- 28:25John was feel himself pretty good, and I said, do you come back?
- 28:27He said no doubt. So there you go. That's that's yeah.
- 28:32Which that winds up because CJ put a name on the portal today. Eli
- 28:36right, Lamellloyd and who I'm missing, God, damn it. I was
- 28:41hoping you remember, because those were the three I remember. I feel like
- 28:45there was one more, wasn't there there are yep, yep, yep.
- 28:51I watched I swear I talked to Bryce Williams, though I don't know what
- 28:53I said. Yeah, so all this happened, and the actually we're getting
- 29:00I'm getting pictures and whatever else and Dak, I will say, props,
- 29:04your eyes were open. I I think every picture, but I think the
- 29:08one with Josiah you were a little little struggling there. Normally any picture you
- 29:14take with alcohol involved, your eyes are just all over the place. And
- 29:17now I was impressed you like, did a good job held yourself together?
- 29:22Yeah I was, I was. I was getting some uh some podcast points.
- 29:26I'll tell you that. And once left, I was like, Okay,
- 29:29those guys were actually serious. If you were, If you were,
- 29:32I mean knowing what you were doing, you could have, you know,
- 29:34got an interview on the podcast. Maybe they'll remember you from the bar.
- 29:40Get one. Okay, I did tell Casey podcast, there you go.
- 29:45I could imagine us trying to interview case that we got a podcast, need
- 29:49to listen. And then I told him I returned to glory. I don't
- 29:53think. I don't think he's gonna listen. Hey, we don't need him
- 29:57to listen. You have to DM and get him on the podcast. And
- 30:03then I did, Hey, shout up too. Other listeners at Berries are
- 30:08creedy guys. They follow us on Spotify, so they'll get that update when
- 30:11once his post'll be like, God, this guy's not much better sober.
- 30:19So those four guys transfer the one that I really think, I think needs
- 30:25to stay and is a big piece is Bryce. When you told us all
- 30:30of that, I was a little worried because Bryce never was in any picture
- 30:33and I'm like, shit, did you not even go with those guys?
- 30:34As he like completely checked out, like not even in the loop with them.
- 30:37But I'm glad that at least he was there and around. I think
- 30:41he's a big piece, like he is Gary and Gary, those two are
- 30:47your blue guys. You're you talk about the athletic defenders that can keep people,
- 30:56Like, let's be real, Wilcher and Casey, we're just getting attack
- 31:00at will by A and M guards, and those A and M guards are
- 31:03they were quicker sh I mean, they were damn fucking I mean, that's
- 31:06why they had to take case A out. He was four for four for
- 31:08three. But they're like, we have to stop the bleeding. We have
- 31:11to put Hoiburg in, like we but even even I mean Sam, Sam's
- 31:15obviously a lot that are defender at the same time, like he's just not
- 31:17the athletic peace that those two are defensively and offensively. We see what they
- 31:22can do. Juwan obviously on the glass too, but Bryce is just all
- 31:26around. Like to me, he's the seven out of ten in every category
- 31:30of the game. Like he's not an excellent anything, but he's just above
- 31:33average. He's good. So he's a big one that we need to keep.
- 31:37I haven't heard anything, which is probably a good thing, but I
- 31:41think that's the core that needs to stay. I think ranks things huge.
- 31:45I think JaMarcus thing is going to help. Don't put my name on Juwan
- 31:51staying rank is one hundred percent. That guy was hummercent solid. He's staying.
- 31:53Juwan was we were kind of screaming over the music. So so that's
- 32:00good that D locked him in. You probably gave him the bottom of drink,
- 32:05right, you keep him here? No, I actually didn't. I
- 32:08know you didn't. I can't believe I didn't, honestly, shot with all
- 32:14of them that have been incredible, I did say, CJ mit this ain't
- 32:17asked, didn't they He said, no, we can play. I said,
- 32:21come on, good job DJ. I love it. Whish he stayed.
- 32:29So moving into next year, I think there's still obviously two or three
- 32:35pieces. And I saw some national people posting, uh that you know,
- 32:38this Nebraska team is not far from being a very very good tournament team.
- 32:45We are just there. This team would have was a good tournament team.
- 32:49Correct, Yeah, like this this team was up there too. So I
- 32:52think the biggest piece and I know who would fill it well, but all
- 32:58I've seen is like really really out there chucky hepburn at the point guard position.
- 33:01Again, not a guy that we need to go out like a cam
- 33:05Back or a John James Palmer, like a big score. We just need
- 33:08a guy that can do a little bit of everything, kind of like kind
- 33:10of like a Briance at the point guard, like we need someone like Chucky
- 33:15would be the perfect mold for that to come back and play at Nebraska for
- 33:20his final year. I don't know Ulis. Ulis is another one that I
- 33:24think will help if he hopefully can get past all the crap. But we
- 33:30need someone there JaMarcus. I think it's a lot of good things. And
- 33:32I said when JaMarcus plays well, the team plays well, because I think
- 33:37he's a solid player. But he's not a point guard. Yeah, not
- 33:42the big ten. So you're we'll see what we got. Yeah, yes,
- 33:51yes, it was only I mean he was contributing. I mean he
- 33:55was everaging like fourteen points a game, fifteen points a game. Here's what
- 34:00I think though, I think Bryce, I think not there on Juwan yet,
- 34:04but I think a guy like Bryce and Rank who showed his moments.
- 34:07I think Bryce is a very very strong three point shooter. I don't think
- 34:13he got his many threes because you know case A and c J. That
- 34:15was I mean, that was that's their role coming in. So Bryce's role
- 34:19I think can change and evolved into really becoming a three level score on offense.
- 34:24I think he has that capability in him. I just don't know that
- 34:28what this year's team like, there were other guys that were filling that shooting
- 34:30role, so he was able to do some other things off the bounce and
- 34:35finishing at the rim when he needed to, but also what hit open shots
- 34:38when he was there too. So yeah, but I agree, getting another
- 34:42shooter is going to help like a lot, because as we've talked about Nebraska
- 34:46basketball, we've always said we missed just the one fucking guy in the court
- 34:50that can just make any open shot whenever he's open. Well, we finally
- 34:52have gotten the past couple of years, if not one, but a couple
- 34:55of those guys, and you can tell how much better it elevates our two
- 35:00team when you have those guys. Good year, it was a great team.
- 35:05Goodyear arguably one of the best season in Nebraska basketball history. I'll never
- 35:10forget that fifteen minutes. So that was the greatest agree basketball and we'll always
- 35:15have that. We will at some point, guys, in our life,
- 35:20we will Nebraska basketball. We will get past that point to where we will
- 35:24have a lot more, a lot longer fifteen minute moments. That's true.
- 35:29Is that was that we'll get there, Like we'll get there. We just
- 35:35we just just got to keep trusting it. It might still be twenty thirty
- 35:38years we'll get there. Was that the game whe Kate Milton cut in since
- 35:44she had cancer because because one okay, maybe not been that game anyway,
- 35:51she cut in during the middle of the basketball game. I missed some of
- 35:53it, but I don't know it was that game what it was. But
- 35:57yeah, also got to give a shout out to wild Thing. Forget the
- 36:04guy's actual name, the course said guy from the Big Ten tournament that was
- 36:09going up Case. We saw him at the bar before and after the game,
- 36:14and he's like, super chilled dude, Dak, that's your next project.
- 36:16You gotta get him on the pod because he has become famous now because
- 36:20of his reaction, at least to Husker fans. Dak, you got two,
- 36:22we get two people. You gotta get Case and wild Thing on the
- 36:25pop. That's your job. I can I'll d m wild Thing after this.
- 36:30I don't know who that is. Oh, that was the quart side
- 36:32guy that was dancing in the Big ten tournament. Yes, that's what I
- 36:36just said. Well, when you said courtside guy, I was like,
- 36:38who is he talking about? Was he quurt side of this one? Yeah?
- 36:44They got him tickets. Oh there was no courtsey, but he was
- 36:45like first row. So all right, well we will be back. I
- 36:52guess in a week or so. Here we'll have March Madness updates for you.
- 37:00Kah, shout out Lady Huskers. Good year too. I guess throw
- 37:02that one in there. Recap that too. Yeah, go mackred g b
- 37:07R, d J Gonna you, d J.
