- 1:46He's a carnivore. Somebody else might be a
- 1:48carnivore as well. And he's he, he's definitely a
- 1:51carnivore because he's a big man.
- 1:53Ladies and gentlemen, we are now talking to free agent NFL
- 1:57defensive tackle Adam Goat. Yes, Adam.
- 2:00What's up my friend? Yeah, I got you.
- 2:02All right, Adam, so we had Chris Collier on the show and he knows
- 2:07a little bit about you. He's a great kid.
- 2:09He's from Long Island, New York, from Hempstead.
- 2:11He has an unbelievable story, kind of like your story coming
- 2:15from Australia and getting your opportunity to play in the NFL.
- 2:19When you look at the NFL and some of the guys that have
- 2:23slowly but surely have made it into the NFL and only one out of
- 2:27every 250 people get a chance to play in the NFL, how hard is it
- 2:31to get into the NFL? Yeah, I mean, it's tough, you
- 2:35know, a lot of luck on your side, but you got to, you got to
- 2:37fit the measurables that they're looking for.
- 2:39You got to have the numbers, you got to have a bit of that
- 2:43pedigree that you develop in college.
- 2:45But outside of that, you know, Aussies have been pretty blessed
- 2:48with kind of going through that pathways program.
- 2:52A lot of them are those special type athletes that are punters
- 2:55specific, you know, position specific guys.
- 2:57But if you're just a regular lineman or you know, D lineman
- 3:02or wide receiver, defensive back, I mean, there's only so
- 3:06many spots. And you know, especially with
- 3:08the NFL, you got tenured guys like I'm a 10 year guy.
- 3:12You've got guys on the team that are playing 8 plus years.
- 3:17So it's like, you know, you got to you got to bring something
- 3:21that an organization is willing to say, well, we're going to let
- 3:24go of this veteran guy, take a shot on this young guy and we
- 3:28see something in the talent there that we can develop.
- 3:31Or, you know, he's going to come in and, and add something
- 3:35straight away to the to the team and make the team a better team.
- 3:39If not, it's really hard. And then outside of those guys
- 3:42that are coming out of college, you've got now guys in the UFO,
- 3:45you've probably got a few guys in the CFL that are coming over
- 3:495-10 guys that are trying to get over.
- 3:51And then you've got I'd say 100, a hundred to 150, probably free
- 3:56agent, you know, guys that are sitting there waiting for a call
- 3:59this year to get onto a roster. So it is really tough.
- 4:03And then, you know, a few things the NFL has done is, you know,
- 4:07made the practice squads bigger. They've, you know, added a
- 4:10couple more spots there that you can, you know, hold guys on the
- 4:13team for. But to be on that active 53,
- 4:16it's really hard. Yeah, I was going to say, you've
- 4:19spent most of the time this year with the practice squad with the
- 4:21Buccaneers, learning from a lot of those defensive tackles, Vita
- 4:24vet Elijah Khansi, who got hurt, unfortunately.
- 4:26But all very good, all very good guys.
- 4:28And like you bumping around many different teams going from the
- 4:30Broncos to the Jags. Like, what advice would you give
- 4:33to some of these younger players getting drafted this year, too?
- 4:35And like how the practice squad works being a journeyman like
- 4:39you've. Been, yeah, yeah.
- 4:40This year was probably my first year really being a practice
- 4:44squad type guy. You know, every year of being a
- 4:48guy that's been able to come in play, you know, my first four
- 4:52years I was drafted. So you kind of have a bit of a
- 4:55buffer in terms of getting to the level they need you to and
- 4:58being able to produce and have actual numbers.
- 5:01You know, being a drafted guy, you're probably going to get
- 5:03some opportunities that an undrafted guy doesn't have.
- 5:06And then when I came to Jacksonville, you know, I was
- 5:08basically on one year contracts, but I played four years there.
- 5:11So, you know, I felt like every year I could continue to
- 5:14increase my value and help the team build and get get to a
- 5:17better spot. So really coming into this year
- 5:20was kind of the year that it was.
- 5:23It was tough, but being a practice squad guy, you got to
- 5:27come out there and your game time is during the week, you
- 5:30know, and the way I looked at it, being a veteran guy, being
- 5:33on the practice squad is I can kind of take a bit of ownership
- 5:36of that unit. You know, being a young guy
- 5:38that's probably going to be on practice squad, you're just
- 5:40trying to find your feet still, You know, you're still taking in
- 5:43all the information that they're giving you from a game plan
- 5:46perspective. But it's also realizing that,
- 5:48hey, I'm not dressing on Saturday or on Sundays, but I've
- 5:51got to get the guys that are dressing the best look possible.
- 5:54So, you know, I kind of took it on myself to really try and be a
- 5:59leader on that that unit and say, well, you know what, even
- 6:02though I'm not playing this Sunday, my time is going to come
- 6:05at some point. So let me get Tristan Worths
- 6:08ready. Let me get Luke ready.
- 6:10Let me let me get the starting online ready for what they're
- 6:13going to see. So most of the time the
- 6:15highlighted D tackle or if it's ADN guy that's going to be an
- 6:18impact player, I'll just be like, put me in that jersey.
- 6:22I'll watch the cut UPS of him that they show us and then, you
- 6:25know, trying to emulate him the best I can to get these guys
- 6:28ready for what they're going to see on Sunday.
- 6:29And you know, I take my hats off to the guys that were on
- 6:32practice board with me. I felt like we did a pretty good
- 6:35job. You know, I felt like during the
- 6:36season the airline didn't give up too many sacks.
- 6:40And a lot of that was, you know, Baker creating things and doing
- 6:43things. But from a straight just getting
- 6:45beat standpoint, I felt like we had a pretty good plan for that.
- 6:48And in terms of giving the looks up front of what they're going
- 6:51to get, I feel like we did a pretty good job of that.
- 6:53But yeah, that's what I took my pride in.
- 6:55I said I'm I'm going up against the Pro Bowl left tackle, you
- 6:58know, every day at practice. So I'm going to give him the
- 7:00best look he can because when he wins and the team wins, I still
- 7:04win. You know, when we go, if we go
- 7:06to the playoffs and we make a run in the playoffs, who who
- 7:09knows what's going to happen at that point?
- 7:11But I'm getting this guy ready to be, you know, the best that
- 7:14he can and and try and give him the best looks that he can have
- 7:17before the game Sunday. So you know, it's about being
- 7:22the guy when you need to be the guy, okay, he needs to get a
- 7:25couple good pass rush reps against him, being stout in the
- 7:28run game, not just being a blocking dummy out there, but
- 7:31actually emulating what guys are going to do, splitting double
- 7:34teams, things like that. You know, that's all part of it.
- 7:37Because come Sunday, you're not going against the guy who's your
- 7:40teammate, you're going against the guy who's, you know, trying
- 7:43to embarrass you on TV and and go make plays.
- 7:45So the more I can give those guys that feeling without, you
- 7:49know, really breaking them down too much or, you know, going and
- 7:52doing my own thing and and getting away from the scouted
- 7:56look of what they want. You know, it's, it's just
- 7:59getting them ready to play. First of all, Adam, I want to
- 8:03say you have an amazing birthday.
- 8:05Yeah, an amazing. Birthday.
- 8:07I appreciate that, yeah. Great birthday.
- 8:10I mean, great people have great birthdays.
- 8:11I, I just, you know, that's just the way it happens.
- 8:13I love that. Shut up, Errol.
- 8:18No, I I wanted to touch on something because obviously
- 8:21you're a tenured guy and the way that you sound like you approach
- 8:27going to the practice squad, it's kind of like us going to
- 8:29the minor leagues. Like what kept you in the mind
- 8:33frame of like, I still have to be the best I can, even though
- 8:36that I'm not on that 53 because that's tough when you play, you
- 8:40know, you played as long as you had.
- 8:42And then to be full time on the practice squad and still have
- 8:45the mentality of like, I feel have to get better because this
- 8:48dude has to get better. That's that's a tough deal to
- 8:51swallow for some people that have played that long and have
- 8:54to realize like, hey, I still have to get better because if I
- 8:57still want to play this game, I can't just be a blocking dummy.
- 9:00Yeah, 100%. You know, and it's it's putting
- 9:03the ego to the side. And that's something that, you
- 9:05know, can really hurt you in this game is your own ego, you
- 9:08know, thinking you're better than what you are.
- 9:11And pretty much every player is going to think that at some
- 9:14point. But we're all human, we're all
- 9:16made mistakes out there. But it's, you know, it's
- 9:19understanding where I'm at in this moment, this at this
- 9:22moment. They want me being this practice
- 9:24squad guy. They want me helping develop
- 9:26the, the young guys and making sure they're on their stuff,
- 9:28making sure the airline's ready to play.
- 9:30And it was, you know, the first few weeks that, you know, I was
- 9:34on the practice squad, it was kind of just like, I didn't know
- 9:37how to practice because I've always been on like an active
- 9:40roster. So it's like, do I just like do
- 9:44what the cards telling me to do? Like okay, on the D tack will go
- 9:47straight or you know, I'm slanting inside and.
- 9:50Tell us break it down what's the difference like because you've
- 9:53seen both sides of it. So everybody that's listening
- 9:56and want understand what the different perspectives from
- 9:59active and. Yeah.
- 10:01So basically if you're on that active roster, you're on the 53
- 10:04or you know, you're you're one of the starters on the team will
- 10:07say, because even if you're on the 53, you still might be given
- 10:11the scout team looks. So you know, if you're one of
- 10:14the starters, you're not really going out there and you know,
- 10:18doing the scout team for the offence.
- 10:21And if you're an offensive starter, you know, you're not
- 10:23going to have Tristan out there playing left tackle for our
- 10:27starting defence throughout the week.
- 10:28So you know, you've got basically it's probably about 35
- 10:33guys that are like they're either on offence, defence or
- 10:36special teams. And that's what they do at
- 10:38practice that you know, that the actual like starting reps, the
- 10:42rest of the guys, it's like we're going to have a bunch of
- 10:44guys filling in, you know, on the scout team for the offence.
- 10:48And that that that's the guys that give the look for our
- 10:51starting defence. And then you've got a bunch of
- 10:53guys that are doing the scout team defence who give the look
- 10:56for the offence. And in that you're going to
- 10:59have, you know, the offensive, one of the offensive quality
- 11:03control guys or maybe an assistant or line coach.
- 11:06They have the drawn up cards. They've got like basically what
- 11:09the formations going to look like on offense and then they've
- 11:12drawn in where they want the defense to line up.
- 11:15So you know, it's it's scouting the looks that they're going to
- 11:17get in the game, whether it's, you know, first, second down,
- 11:20third down, blitz periods, things like that, you know, goal
- 11:25lines. They're putting us in all the
- 11:26situations and they're putting you where they want you to line
- 11:29up. So you know, some teams are 4
- 11:32down front. So we're going to have, you
- 11:34know, 4 bigs in the game or some of them are 334.
- 11:38So it's more 3 bigs, 2 outside backers and you know, so it's
- 11:43basically just like getting those looks, you know, for the
- 11:46offense and, and the offense for the defence.
- 11:48But yeah, it's, it's really, you just got to swallow your pride.
- 11:52You got to realise like, shoot, even though I'm out here, I'm
- 11:54not running our defence per SE. Like when we play the Saints,
- 11:58you know, we're running the Saints defence.
- 12:00When we play the Panthers, I'm, I'm one of the interior D
- 12:03lineman from the Panthers. That week, you know, some places
- 12:06they'll put a bib on you. So it's like, you know, I've got
- 12:09#90 on this week or something or things like that.
- 12:13But you know, you just got to take pride in where you're at.
- 12:15And you never know when your number is going to be called.
- 12:17You never know when a guy can get injured.
- 12:19So if you're sitting there just going through the motions, you
- 12:23know, it's probably going to, you know, bite you in the ass
- 12:26when it comes time to, you know, your number being called and
- 12:28you're like, well, shoot, I've been BS in for the last, you
- 12:32know, month or so, haven't been working on my craft, things like
- 12:36that. It's going to come back and get
- 12:37you. So, you know, for me it was just
- 12:39like, let's go out here, let's work, let's put this, you know,
- 12:43put these reps out there and then, you know, it can also be a
- 12:46way of getting promoted too. So, you know, if I'm out there
- 12:50and you know, I'm bullshitting, they're going to cut me and say
- 12:53we can get anyone to come out here and bullshit.
- 12:55But if I'm out there and I'm working the starting online,
- 12:58eventually the coach is probably going to say, hey, we need to
- 13:00take a look at this guy. You know, if he's doing this to
- 13:03our online, you know, what's it going to be like when you know
- 13:07he's he gets in the game. So, you know, it's a bunch of
- 13:10bunch of different things like that where you know, you want to
- 13:14show up, but you also got to follow what the looks that they
- 13:17want. So, you know, if we've got guys
- 13:20that are, you know, let's just say we're playing the Saints,
- 13:25they're a bit more of a A3 four at times, might be a four three
- 13:29at times. So you know how what are their
- 13:31techniques? Are they like grinding, you
- 13:33know, the old lineman not let him get to the second level?
- 13:35Or are they going to be guys that are just trying to get
- 13:37vertical swim, you know, anything to get in the
- 13:40backfield. And it's like you, you kind of
- 13:42got to play with that a bit, but it's also being, you know, a pro
- 13:45and knowing how to practice. You know, you're not going to
- 13:47make the team by doing the wrong shit out there.
- 13:50And then, you know, a coach being like, bro, you can't even
- 13:53follow the card. And you know, yeah, you might be
- 13:55making plays, but it's like you're not, you're not helping
- 13:58anyone. You know, you're not even
- 13:59helping yourself. So for me, it was, yeah, putting
- 14:03the pride aside, just coming to work every day trying to get
- 14:06better, trying to work on what I need to get better AT.
- 14:08And then, you know, outside of that, it was still being a
- 14:11mentor in the D line room. You know, I'm a guy that's
- 14:14played a lot of ball. So when we're watching the film
- 14:16of the actual team we're playing and we're watching their own
- 14:19line, I'm talking to the young guys.
- 14:20I'm saying hey, if you see this formation, think this.
- 14:23Run if you see this. And they're motioning to here
- 14:25with the active roster, too. Are we still in What?
- 14:28Sorry. You still in the meetings with
- 14:30the active roster? Yeah, yeah.
- 14:32So we're still in, we're still in position meetings.
- 14:34We still do everything the active roster's doing.
- 14:37The only thing different is we'll probably have like a scout
- 14:39team meeting like Wednesday mornings, Thursday mornings
- 14:43where they'll pull up, you know, 10 to 15 clips of just like
- 14:47what, what it looks like. So Wednesdays is more first,
- 14:49second down, you know, runs and things like that.
- 14:52So they'll show us some clips of that.
- 14:54Thursdays is typically like a third down day.
- 14:56So you know, then we get into like, OK, these are some of the
- 15:00Brit blitzes they bring, you know, some of the pass rush
- 15:02moves that their guys on the interior throwing.
- 15:05So, you know, if you get a chance to rush, like think like
- 15:08more of like, hey, they're more like arm over guys or they're
- 15:12more like club RIP, you know, so it's just emulating the guys.
- 15:16And then and then you put your own spin on it.
- 15:18Obviously, you know, you just don't want to be out there.
- 15:20Like I said earlier, just, you know, going through the motions,
- 15:23but like, I'm also not going to just lose every rush song.
- 15:28You know, I'm out there showing what I can do too.
- 15:30So yeah, it's a bit of that. And then, you know, really after
- 15:34a Friday practice, your, your week's pretty much done.
- 15:37So, you know, we're, we're we're working three days a week.
- 15:41You know, you're basically got practice on Wednesday, Thursday,
- 15:44Friday and then we're kind of off till Monday, Tuesday when
- 15:48we're back in the building where, you know, the guys are
- 15:50going out and playing Sunday. And you know, the last thing you
- 15:54want to do is be like, shit, you're watching the game Sunday
- 15:56and you realize, damn, I didn't give that guy a good look all
- 15:59week. And now he's out there getting,
- 16:01you know, the shit beat out of him.
- 16:03And you're like, you know, because it's going to come back
- 16:05to you guys like, but if we go out there, we put it on him
- 16:08during the week and you know, the scout team had a really good
- 16:11week and gave the offence problems.
- 16:13Maybe the coach says we might get away from a few of those
- 16:17plays that we were thinking of putting in because it didn't
- 16:20execute the way we wanted to in practice.
- 16:21So let's go in a different direction and that might help us
- 16:25in the game. Well, Adam, Adam, and that's
- 16:27what I want to get it to him. By the way, we're talking a free
- 16:30Asian NFL defensive tackle, Adam Goatis.
- 16:32He's been on our show before. We met him at the Super Bowl a
- 16:35year ago. He's a free agent right now and
- 16:38I'm very interested who's going to sign you?
- 16:41I think there's a lot of players that are are going to have
- 16:44opportunities in the offseason to go somewhere and and have a
- 16:47chance to make a roster. And I think you're a big
- 16:50explosive guy. And I think you can add to a lot
- 16:53of different teams that are looking for defensive tackles.
- 16:55My question for you is, when you look at the league and obviously
- 16:58your team, you're in the NFC South, it's it's it's one of the
- 17:03easiest divisions of football. I don't care what anybody says.
- 17:05What happened to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
- 17:08You started off very, very strong and then the team kind of
- 17:11just like fell off. And I understand injuries
- 17:14happen. You have explosive wide
- 17:16receivers like Mike Evans and Godwin, but and you have a young
- 17:20one. It that is it was up for
- 17:22offensive play of the year. What happened to you guys?
- 17:25I don't I, you guys fell off the map.
- 17:28I it didn't make any. Sense it was tough because yeah,
- 17:31we started pretty hot, you know, and and when you're winning
- 17:35games early, sometimes you're not really looking at some of
- 17:39the mistakes that you you you know, you're letting some things
- 17:42slide because you're winning games and, you know, I think
- 17:46that comes back to bite you later in the year.
- 17:48Some of the things that were getting us early in the year
- 17:51because we're winning those games.
- 17:52We didn't pay it as much mind, I think.
- 17:54And then, you know, obviously the injuries happen.
- 17:57I don't think we had our starting online that we started
- 18:00camp with. I think, you know, throughout
- 18:03the whole season that was like kind of a rolling door of just
- 18:06guys being plugged in and plugged out.
- 18:08So you know, that obviously hurts you.
- 18:11The offensive injuries hurt you, You know, Bucky, we lost Bucky
- 18:15for a few weeks there. You know, big obviously being
- 18:18that. He killed me in fantasy Adam.
- 18:21He killed me in fantasy I Adam. He was one of my high draft
- 18:24picks and I lost him and it it absolutely screwed me in one of
- 18:27my leagues, so I didn't have Bucky.
- 18:30Adam, how many times do you hear that as an NFL player?
- 18:35No, you definitely hear it a lot, but.
- 18:37You think he whipped his shit about fantasy?
- 18:40I'm just saying. It.
- 18:41Screwed me. It screwed me.
- 18:43I had a chance to win almost $2000 in this league.
- 18:46And because Bucky went down, I was bucked out of a chance to
- 18:50win. All right.
- 18:51And by the way, I love how you say I love how you say bullshit,
- 18:55bullshit say that was. A He says it the nicest way.
- 18:58It doesn't even sound mean. Bullshit.
- 19:01That's that's the Australian you know, we we can kind of put
- 19:04those like cuss words in pretty easy and and they just.
- 19:08You're like, he didn't even say anything different.
- 19:10Yeah. Bullshit, bullshit.
- 19:13But but yeah, I mean, it was, it was, I think a lot of those, you
- 19:17know, like I said, a lot of those mistakes early in the
- 19:20season, you know, like even our first 3-4 games, you know,
- 19:24winning by a field goal. So, you know, a lot of it was
- 19:28Baker making something happen in that last two minutes, us
- 19:31kicking game-winning field goal, winning the game.
- 19:33But it didn't mean that we're playing at the level we wanted
- 19:36to on defense. And that's all I can really
- 19:38speak for, you know, because that's what I'm involved in.
- 19:41But you know, like I said, a lot of those things that, you know,
- 19:45are covered up by getting a win come back and get you later in
- 19:48the year. And that's what I felt like kind
- 19:49of happened. Adam, A lot of backlash came to
- 19:52Todd Bowles going into the second-half of the season.
- 19:55A lot of the media attacked him because they didn't think that
- 19:58he coached this team up the way they that he should have.
- 20:01And some people believe he should have lost his job in the
- 20:04offseason. Could you tell us a little bit
- 20:06about the insurance and the outs of who Todd Bowles is and why
- 20:09you think he should keep his job?
- 20:11Yeah, I mean, I love Coach Bowles.
- 20:13I thought he was probably one of the best head coaches I've had.
- 20:15And I've had a lot of head coaches.
- 20:18You know, I went through about 3 or 4 in Denver, 3 or 4 in
- 20:22Jacksonville and then got to the box.
- 20:25And I think, you know, the way he coaches the the team, the way
- 20:28he motivates the team, he, it's all football with him.
- 20:32He's a true pro. He's none of that bullshit where
- 20:34you just had to slip it in there one more time.
- 20:37None of that. None of that.
- 20:38Stuff where you know, you're you go on a team meeting and the
- 20:41coach is talking about like, oh, how was fishing this weekend to
- 20:45one of the guys or how was this or how was that?
- 20:47It's just straight to the ball and we know what we got to do.
- 20:50They're going to come in here, we're going to go in there,
- 20:53whatever it is, what's going to handle our business, you know,
- 20:56short and sweet, you know, team meetings.
- 20:59And then even after practice, like he's one to shoot it
- 21:01straight. Like he's not going to butter
- 21:03you up if you had a good practice and he's not going to,
- 21:05you know, butter you up if you had a bad practice.
- 21:07He's going to tell you how it is.
- 21:08It's going to be like, we practice like shit.
- 21:10So, you know, whatever you whatever you got to do to, you
- 21:13know, get your shit right for the game, better get it right.
- 21:16So, you know, very motivating. I think he's a true pro in terms
- 21:21of that. And yeah, I understand a lot of
- 21:23the hate that comes when you, you know, you're in a prime
- 21:26position and then, you know, the season kind of gets away from
- 21:30you. But I mean, at the end of the
- 21:32day, I think, you know, that the the coaches did what they had to
- 21:36do for us to be in positions to win.
- 21:38And I don't think we just went out there and executed as
- 21:41players. I think, you know, the things
- 21:43that I was saying earlier, like the same mistakes that showed up
- 21:46early in the year showed up later in the year.
- 21:48And, you know, some of that can fall on coaching.
- 21:50But I think guys had to take a look in the mirror and own some
- 21:54of the shit that they didn't do right.
- 21:56And you know, unfortunately in this business, everyone wants to
- 21:59point the finger somewhere else. But he's one that will take it
- 22:02on the chin and he'll say he needs to do a bit better job.
- 22:06The coaches need to be do a better job.
- 22:08And, you know, you don't really see a lot of players coming out
- 22:11saying we need to do a better job as players.
- 22:13But I felt like that that that's what it was.
- 22:16I think us as players needed to do more, needed to put in more
- 22:20sacrifice a bit more and that that's what led to the downfall,
- 22:24I think. And yeah, it's disappointing for
- 22:27sure. But you know, I always say like,
- 22:31you know, the teams where shit's not going right or, you know, I
- 22:35got blown off the ball in a double team.
- 22:38What what can I do next week to make that better?
- 22:40I can't just rely on the coach to say, hey, next play for you.
- 22:44You know, I got to go out there, get an extra 1015 minutes on the
- 22:47sled or work in my hands or work in my pad level, whatever it
- 22:50was. And I've got to want to do that.
- 22:53You know, a coach isn't the coaches and stuff.
- 22:55We don't have time, you know, in practice or during the week for
- 23:00to wait on someone to do that for you.
- 23:02You got to go out there and say I'm going, I'm going out to
- 23:05practice 15 minutes early. I'm going to get these extra
- 23:08reps in. I'm going to grind that little
- 23:09bit more and make sure I'm ready.
- 23:11So the next time I'm in that situation, that shit doesn't
- 23:13happen. And yeah, I think, like, I don't
- 23:17think we had enough guys doing that.
- 23:18And I think, you know, some of that can come down to leadership
- 23:22and some of that can come down to players holding guys
- 23:24accountable. And, you know, I think we should
- 23:28have done a better job with that.
- 23:29So I wanna shift gears a little bit.
- 23:30Obviously with the Olympics going on, they've crossed
- 23:32promoting with the Super Bowl being it's on the same network
- 23:34and they're hyping about the flag football that's gonna be
- 23:37coming in in 2028. Do you think you being somebody
- 23:40from Australia, one of the a lot of NFL players from Australia
- 23:44now, including in the Seahawks punter that might be the best in
- 23:45the league right now. Do you think that kind of thing
- 23:47will work to help grow the the game of football internationally
- 23:51in Australia and other places? And what are what are your
- 23:54thoughts on like how many Australian players have the
- 23:56ripple effect that's coming? Not just it's not just kickers
- 23:58and punters anymore. A lot of offensive lineman and
- 24:00defensive lineman too. Like yourself.
- 24:02Yeah, yeah, that's what I think is going to happen.
- 24:04I think initially we're going to see a flood of more punters
- 24:07coming over because a lot of our like pro sports, like Aussie
- 24:10Rules football, even rugby, a lot of that, like there's
- 24:14punting and stuff in that. So I think that's probably going
- 24:17to be the first little wave of guys coming over.
- 24:20But I think having these games in Australia coming up, having
- 24:25the flag football opportunities coming up, I think we're going
- 24:27to see, you know, some 1516 year olds start to, you know, train
- 24:32and realize like, hey, if I can get over to a college and then
- 24:36get me 3-4 years in a college and go through that process, I
- 24:40think we're going to see a few more guys come through because
- 24:42it's pretty tough. Like you really have to be like
- 24:46a diamond in the rough to go straight from, you know, doing
- 24:50nothing as a 24 year old in Australia to playing offensive
- 24:54line or defensive line or receiver or DB.
- 24:57You just haven't been around the playbook enough.
- 24:59You just don't know the insurance and outs of the game.
- 25:01But if you're a young 16 year old that's built pretty well
- 25:05from playing these sports have has a lot of like, you know,
- 25:09athleticism from playing a sport like rugby or Aussie rules
- 25:12football, you can bring that over.
- 25:14And in college you can get dialled into the XS and OS.
- 25:18They can develop you, they can develop your body, teach you the
- 25:21skills. And that's what coaching is.
- 25:23You know, coaching isn't, you know, teaching these guys how
- 25:26to, you know, get stronger and things like that.
- 25:30But it's like we're going to teach you how to play receiver,
- 25:32We're going to teach you how to play defensive end.
- 25:34We're going to and the, and the good thing about a lot of that
- 25:37is I think you don't have bad coaching.
- 25:39You know, you haven't been through high school where my
- 25:41high school coach told me this, this, this, and that's what I
- 25:44do. And now you get to college and
- 25:46your college coach is like, forget what your high school
- 25:48coach told you. I want to teach you what I want
- 25:50to teach you. They're kind of coming in with
- 25:52this clean slate where you know what their college coach is
- 25:56teaching them what they're learning.
- 25:57There is going to be their first real stage of learning and, and
- 26:00they're, you know, developed already.
- 26:01So I think in the next 5-10 years we'll see a few more like
- 26:07positional players, but I think in the next couple years,
- 26:10definitely more punters, more guys that are kind of in that
- 26:14reserve, you know, positions in the pro league saying, well
- 26:17shit, I'm not getting a game playing Aussie Rules football,
- 26:20let me try and just get over as a punter and see what I can do
- 26:23there. Yeah, we have.
- 26:26We actually have one in Nebraska.
- 26:27Archie Wilson. Yeah.
- 26:29So yeah, it's it's amazing you say that because it's kind of
- 26:32like, how would you like, because culture is a big change.
- 26:38One of my really good buddies that played college basketball,
- 26:43like I didn't know shit about where y'all are from.
- 26:45Like how like, so how hard was it to adapt to the culture?
- 26:49Because a lot of people don't understand.
- 26:51Like you're born and raised in one thing and then coming over
- 26:55to the States is completely different.
- 26:56Like, I don't think enough people understand it's hard
- 26:59enough to do what you do and play football.
- 27:03But like, we're human beings, so adapting to a different culture,
- 27:06like, try to try to help us better understand because we're
- 27:09born and raised here, how how hard to adapt to a different
- 27:12culture. And like, yeah.
- 27:13I think, I think, I think like, I think nowadays with like
- 27:16social media and things like that, you get, you get a bit
- 27:20more of a taste. You know, when I first came
- 27:22over, it was like, you know, FaceTime wasn't even around.
- 27:26So for me to like call my parents, it was like we have to
- 27:29set up like a Skype, you know, so it's a bit different.
- 27:34But you know, if you're coming in over and you're you're
- 27:37playing football and you're in a locker room like that, I mean,
- 27:41you automatically get, you know, 50 to 100 guys that you're now
- 27:45acquaintances with, that you're friends with, that you're going
- 27:47to class with, that you're developing relationships.
- 27:50So you don't really have time to like, get caught up in a lot of
- 27:55other stuff because you're so just drilled into, OK, we're in
- 27:58football, we're training, we're doing this, we're doing that.
- 28:00But culturally, like, obviously things are different, you know,
- 28:03and the thing about the States is like, culturally they're
- 28:06different from the South to the North to the Midwest to the West
- 28:09Coast, You know, it's all different vibes, different, you
- 28:12know, people grew up going doing different things.
- 28:15So, you know, it's definitely just being like a sponge getting
- 28:20to know your teammates, you know, getting to know where they
- 28:23grew up, how they grew up, what they what they're into, you
- 28:26know, things like that. And you know, Australia being an
- 28:29English speaking like country, it's pretty easy because you
- 28:32know, it's not like you're learning a foreign language or
- 28:34anything. Pizza's pizza, you know,
- 28:37Gatorade's, Gatorade, just some different flavours, you know, so
- 28:41it's close enough where you can kind of make some of those
- 28:43things. But yeah, it it definitely is a
- 28:46bit different in terms of. Yeah, but some of your things
- 28:49can mean different things, and you probably know the one I'm
- 28:52probably thinking about. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 28:54Yeah, I heard that also. We'll.
- 29:01Get cheeseburgers and cheeseburgers too, you know.
- 29:06But yeah, I mean, you know, when I came over, I grew up in the
- 29:10city back home. So to come over and, you know, I
- 29:13went to Georgia Tech, which is in the heart of Atlanta.
- 29:15So for me, when I came over, it was like even just visiting the
- 29:18campus, like it felt like I was in in, in Australia, you know, a
- 29:23city with a bunch of culture, a bunch of different cultures
- 29:26because it's such a melting pot. Every people from all over the
- 29:29world. It's big working, you know,
- 29:33city. So you've got a lot of big
- 29:35businesses there, you've got international people there,
- 29:37you've got, you know, you have a lot of young like professionals
- 29:41there. So, you know, to me, just like
- 29:43being around that and being like in the city, it felt
- 29:46comfortable. I always want to go but damn why
- 29:49is the flight so damn long? Yeah, yeah.
- 29:51It's crazy. Yeah.
- 29:52My brother and my mom just flew back and yeah, it's it's a
- 29:55flight. So if you're gonna go, you
- 29:57definitely got to get a few weeks there.
- 30:00But yeah, I mean. Is it you gain a day going or
- 30:03you lose a day? You gain a day going there, you
- 30:06lose a day coming back. So, yeah.
- 30:09But yeah, culturally, I mean, it's it's America's it's it's, I
- 30:15love it because it's just like so different.
- 30:18Like what I was saying, you know, if you're in these
- 30:20different cities, if you did in these different towns, it's just
- 30:24so different and it's and you just got to be open.
- 30:26You know, I think the whole thing with like cultures and
- 30:29accepting those things is just being open to it.
- 30:32And you know, I think that's that's what the beautiful part
- 30:35is. It's just like they do things a
- 30:37little differently here. And it's understanding that it's
- 30:40like, you know, back in Australia, we didn't say like
- 30:43Sir and ma'am and stuff really growing up, you know, even to
- 30:46our teachers and stuff. But you get here, you get well,
- 30:49in the South, it's super common. You know, you're holding holding
- 30:53a door for a lady. It's like, Oh yes, ma'am, here
- 30:55you go. Yeah, Sir, thank to waiters to
- 30:57all that stuff. And, you know, even like tipping
- 31:00culture in Australia, we don't tip like all that's included
- 31:03like in what? Yeah, but but minimum wage is
- 31:10like, you know, if you're a barista at like a coffee shop,
- 31:13you're making 2530 bucks an hour.
- 31:16You know, working at McDonald's, you're making 2025 bucks an
- 31:18hour. So, you know, there's no tipping
- 31:21in that. That's.
- 31:22Pretty funny I'm. Going.
- 31:24To hourly wage is like high. So you know, as as a young
- 31:28adult, you're making good money and then you know, we're here.
- 31:32But here it's like, you know, when me and my family or you
- 31:36know, me and the kids and stuff go out and eat, it's like you
- 31:40can tell like, OK, the service is a bit better because these
- 31:43people are working for tips. So, you know, in Australia, you
- 31:47run out of water at your table. Most of the time you're like
- 31:49putting your hand up, being like, then get some more water.
- 31:51That's where it's here. It's like.
- 31:53That's where Tiger Woods should go, because he doesn't tip here.
- 31:56Yeah, there you go. Exactly.
- 31:59But like here, I mean, you go out to eat most of the time.
- 32:02You got to tell him like, hey, this is like my 4th Coke.
- 32:05I'm good on the Coke, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:07Like. Like before you even finish the
- 32:11case, there's like another one, you know?
- 32:13Where are you settled at? I'm in Jacksonville.
- 32:16OK, that's. Nice.
- 32:17Yeah. So that's on base.
- 32:18So no stick next Good job so. We're we are talking a free
- 32:22agent NFL tackle Adam Goatess. Adam, before we let you go, All
- 32:27right, let's say we're a ring of GM's right now sitting in a
- 32:31round table and you walk in. How do you pitch yourself to all
- 32:37these GM's? What could sell Adam Goatess to
- 32:41the NFL and ownership and GM's around the league?
- 32:44Give me your pitch if I was, if I was going to hire you.
- 32:48Yeah, I think just selling myself as a consistent run
- 32:51stopper in the league. I think as you get deep in the
- 32:54playoffs and late in the season, teams want to run the ball.
- 32:57And as we saw last night, you know, if you can't stop the run,
- 33:01it's pretty tough to win games, especially the the big games,
- 33:03because you know teams are going to come in, establish that to
- 33:06open up the pass game. And you know, most of my career,
- 33:09if you look at each year when I've played consistent snaps and
- 33:13had opportunities to be on the field, I've done a great job.
- 33:15I've had negative plays. I've been able to affect the
- 33:17pass rush, big part of the pass rush affecting the passer, But
- 33:22as a run stuffing D lineman, you know, I think I'm I'm probably
- 33:26one of the top guys in the league.
- 33:27I like to think of myself as that, you know, and when I
- 33:31compare my stats when I've been playing, you know, similar play
- 33:34snaps to other guys, my numbers are right there with the guys
- 33:38that are making, you know, good money and on 3/4 year deals.
- 33:42Like, you know, you look at the guys I played next to in Denver
- 33:45and Jacksonville on all these teams, I feel like when I've had
- 33:49consistent snaps and it measures up against what these guys are
- 33:52doing production wise, I'm right there with them.
- 33:55And yeah, I think being even as a practice squad guy, I'm happy
- 33:58to come on as a practice squad guy, be a leader in the locker
- 34:01room, a leader on the field, do all I need to do to help this
- 34:04team win. You know, I'm here to win Super
- 34:06Bowls and try and get teams to championships.
- 34:09You know, I'm not just here like this.
- 34:10Be a dummy. Practice.
- 34:12I'll do I'll do Allen Iverson. Practice.
- 34:14You mean practice? Come on.
- 34:16You don't need to be on a practice squad.
- 34:18You need to make a roster. You deserve.
- 34:20You're a great personality. You're you're a big guy.
- 34:22When I met Adam, I I looked up. I like Jabba.
- 34:26You're 63. This guy's like 6-6.
- 34:29He's a big man and huge, but he's like a teddy bear.
- 34:34He's like one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
- 34:36So just a outgoing, down to earth type of person.
- 34:41You wouldn't even know he was from Australia until he started
- 34:43to speak to you. So he's like one of the boys
- 34:46hanging out. And I remember when Nathan
- 34:48brought him to the table, he's like, this is this is Adam
- 34:50Goat's. And I said I've heard of you.
- 34:52And then he sat down and he was like, dude, even when he sits on
- 34:55the table, he's bigger than everybody, so.
- 34:57Yeah, because you're sure I'm. 510 1/2, Man, at 5-10 and 1/4,
- 35:02I'm not that short. This guy says I'm short and it
- 35:06makes me laugh. I mean, he's 63.
- 35:07He's 4 inches bigger than me and he's like, he's like, well,
- 35:10you're still short. You know?
- 35:11I hate you, Jabba. I hate.
- 35:14You look, my rule of thumb is if you're under 6 foot, you're
- 35:17pretty short. So think.
- 35:20That's my good, that's my tutor, not.
- 35:22Spoken from a tall, you know. Now you're upsetting me, Adam.
- 35:27Jabba, he has a great birthday and he's.
- 35:29Agreed with you on this A. 100%. Anyways, Adam, good luck on the
- 35:35offseason. Keep training.
- 35:37Let's get you on when we find out where you're going.
- 35:39Talk about. The season yeah fingers crossed
- 35:42man I'm gonna keep working and you know hopefully an
- 35:45opportunity comes cuz you know I still got a lot of ball left in
- 35:49me I'm feeling healthy after the year.
- 35:51I didn't, you know, play too much.
- 35:52So, you know, I definitely feel like I'm in great, great
- 35:56conditioning and everything, man.
- 35:58I'm just excited for what the future holds.
- 36:01You know, I think enough teams, you know, went out there and
- 36:04probably didn't stop the run. I think across the league it
- 36:07looked like it was bad teams averaging 4-5 yards of carry.
- 36:11And you know, I remember when I first came in the league, it was
- 36:13like if we're giving up over 3 yards of carry, it's not good
- 36:17run defense. And I think, you know, it has
- 36:20become a bit of a passing league, but in the big games
- 36:22we're seeing. Too, I'll pitch you, I'll pitch
- 36:25you to The Jets cause The Jets need some run stoppers man we.
- 36:28Can don't do it. Don't do it.
- 36:29Don't do it. No, don't do it.
- 36:30Nah, you just get out of here. Quite you, Mr. Nebraska, over
- 36:34there. Maybe we'll maybe we'll get our
- 36:35our friend for you, Luka, and I'll lure you back to Jackson.
- 36:38That's that's true too, for. You hey, definitely, absolutely
- 36:41drop a line to him, man. I'm I'm around the corner.
- 36:43Drop a line to him for me. Well, keep up the good work.
- 36:47We'll be in touch with you, man. And keep that smile on your
- 36:51face, man, because smile and. You're 1 of.
- 36:54The nicest dudes, so we really appreciate the time and I'll
- 36:57never. Forget my birthday.
- 36:59That's it. I'll never forget yours too,
- 37:00Joe. Thank you, man.
- 37:02Thanks guys. I appreciate you having me on.
- 37:03Absolutely, Adam. Goat sis, ladies and gentlemen,
- 37:07defensive tackle, free agent, Jets, Giants, anybody Buffalo
- 37:12Bills that can use some run stoppers.
- 37:15There's a lot of teams right now, especially the Buffalo
- 37:19Bills that were one of the worst run stopping teams in the NFL
- 37:22this year. They can use Adam, he's right.
- 37:25It's been really, really bad all season long when it comes to run
- 37:28defenses and Jacksonville was good, the Patriots were good,
- 37:31but usually when you see a good run stopping team, they're not
- 37:34very good pass rushing team. So there are teams that
- 37:38obviously you can argue that, but he's a good guy.
- 37:42I'm telling you, he's a he's big, he's massive, and he's like
- 37:45a teddy bear. I've never met a nicer person.
- 37:47I really never have. As you know, being around
- 37:50athletes, you get a chance to discover what type of
- 37:53personalities they are. He's one of those guys that you,
- 37:57you can't judge them because he's not one of those guys.
- 38:00He's like one of the boys. If he was sitting here, you
- 38:02wouldn't even know that he was a professional football player.
- 38:05He's just a big giant guy who's pretty outgoing and down to
- 38:10earth. So very, very.
- 38:11Nice. Hey, when he was younger, how
- 38:12much pussy do you think he got with that accent?
- 38:17He has he has your new favorite area to a swear word too.
- 38:20That's true too. Like he said it and it was like
- 38:23he said it like it. Like it was a term of
- 38:25endearment, like it was. And he said it just came out so
- 38:29nice. I was like, he could he could
- 38:32just be cussing you out and be like shake his hand and give him
- 38:35a hug. Like it's impressive.
- 38:37Like people with accents blow my mind Like and it's, you know,
- 38:41he's been over here for how long?
- 38:43And you don't lose it, man. That's let me borrow that after
- 38:46like a couple days. What about Nathan's accent?
- 38:49No, don't work out. I'm putting you on a leash now.
- 39:00Breaking news I had a hot lady. Breaking news I.
- 39:04Told Nathan that we had some graphics for him.
- 39:07You know this is what Speedy described Nathan was doing at
- 39:10the Super. Bowl I love Lisa Ann you.
- 39:13Know the gin and tonics. I love that Beefeater the the
- 39:17gin and tonic blow bump, the and the.
- 39:21Chicken Curry, you know, loving Lisa Ann and then of course,
- 39:25Nathan. If you missed it, we knew you
- 39:27were at the Pro Bowl with Shador.
- 39:30It was so great of you to share it.
- 39:32Looks like he's back in his jail cell.
- 39:34What he's it's he's still in San Francisco.
- 39:37He's, no, he's in Alcatraz. Is it blue wazer accessible?
- 39:44I am a legend by the way. We I know he got a new blazer,
- 39:48but like, could he? It wasn't much different.
- 39:53It it was just like with the Super Bowl colors.
- 39:56Yeah, I was like, I was like, oh, he's like, I got a new one.
- 40:01Like he was so excited to show us.
- 40:02And I'm like Nathan, it's not that much different there, bud.
- 40:05It's like Alt Nathan, you know, like he go, he shows up in his
- 40:09secondary. It's his alter ego.
- 40:12What he did is he went to, he went to Burlington and picked up
- 40:15another place. It's his color rush jersey.
- 40:19That's what everything coat. Factory.
- 40:23Is color rust blazer? I could see Nathan doing
- 40:25commercials for Burlington for. 100.
- 40:28Percent. If he can actually.
- 40:31Speak A. Sentence by at Burlington Hey.
- 40:39That teleprompter had to be going real slow.
- 40:42I need Brittany also. There he is.
- 40:48Oh Nathan. The NFL announced the winners of
- 40:52the end of the season awards on Thursday at the NFL Honors
- 40:55ceremony, featuring many first time winners.
- 40:58Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford won his first MVP in
- 41:02his 17th season in the league. Stafford finished the year with
- 41:074707 yards passing, 47 touchdowns, and 109.7 passer
- 41:14rating in his first year in New England.
- 41:18England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel won Coach of the Year,
- 41:21winning it for the second time in his career.
- 41:23The Patriots had the biggest turnaround in the league in the
- 41:27league under Vrabel, going from four wins in 2024 before he got
- 41:33there to 14 wins this year, making it to the Super Bowl.
- 41:38Super Bowl champion Seahawks receiver Jackson Smith Najiba,
- 41:42one Offensive Player of the year for the first time.
- 41:45GSN finished with 119 catches for 1793 yards and 10
- 41:53touchdowns. The NFL new sack king Miles
- 41:56Garrett, one Defensive player of the year for the second time in
- 41:59his career. This is this time with a new
- 42:03record of 23 sacks. Panthers rookie wide receiver
- 42:05Ted McMillan, one offensive rookie of the year, finishing
- 42:09with 70 catches for 1014 yards, 7 touchdowns.
- 42:13Browns linebacker Carson Swessinger was defensive rookie
- 42:18of the I remember when he was drafted, finishing with 100 and
- 42:2156156 tackles and two interceptions. 49ers running
- 42:26back Christian McCaffrey won Comeback Player of the Year with
- 42:291202 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns and 102
- 42:35catches for 99124 receiving yards and seven touchdowns after
- 42:41he injured himself and he had the injured plague in 2024.
- 42:46I will say this, I, I, I agree with every one of these guys
- 42:50getting the awards that they got, the only one that I would
- 42:53say shouldn't have gotten the award.
- 42:54And also assistant coach of the year, which which was, was Josh
- 42:59McDaniels. It's the Patriots and I'm not
- 43:02taking shots at the New England Patriots in the success that
- 43:04they had this year. But Mike McDonald should have
- 43:08won coach of the year. He should have.
- 43:11There's no and, and I'll say this, his coaching staff was as
- 43:15good as anybody in the league. His offensive coordinator just
- 43:18got the head coaching job at the with the Raiders.
- 43:21I he has been one of the best young offensive coordinators in
- 43:24all of the NFL. Mike Vrabel deserves again, a
- 43:28lot of credit for the success that they had.
- 43:29Fourteen wins, Super Bowl appearance, They had the easiest
- 43:33schedule in the NFL. And you look at a guy like Mike
- 43:35McDonald. Mike McDonald had one of the
- 43:38hardest schedules in the NFL. And to be 14 and 3 and go all
- 43:41the way to the Super Bowl and dominate the way he did to get
- 43:44to the Super Bowl the way they did with all the pressure going
- 43:47into the playoffs, him, them dancing and prancing after they
- 43:50won the conference and everybody was out to knock them out and
- 43:54the way they just completely dominated.
- 43:56Think about it. Look what they did.
- 43:57They did to San Francisco. They completely tortured the San
- 44:02Francisco 49ers. I understand this isn't the same
- 44:0549ers defense. They lost Bosa, they lost
- 44:08Warner. I don't want to hear it.
- 44:10This was one of the best offensive teams in the NFL the
- 44:14last four weeks of the season when and Brock Purdy was one of
- 44:17the hottest quarterbacks in the league when he came back and
- 44:20they completely smothered that defense, smothered San
- 44:23Francisco. And then what they did to Sean
- 44:25McVeigh and the Rams in the NFL UFC title game, it was
- 44:29unbelievable. The fact, and I understand it's
- 44:31not about playoffs. It's not about the playoffs.
- 44:33It's a regular season. You're going to tell me right
- 44:35now that the Patriots that were the second best team in the AFC,
- 44:38which is one of the, to me, one of the worst years when it came
- 44:42to AFC conference play, was better than the NFC conference
- 44:46winning Seattle Seahawks. It makes no sense.
- 44:50No sense. And you give the GMGM of the
- 44:53year and Schneider, if Schneider's the GM of the year
- 44:55with all the success they have, how is it their coach and their
- 44:58assistant coach and Clint Kubiak not the assistant coach of the
- 45:02year? It makes no sense.
- 45:03Everybody else, it makes a lot of sense.
- 45:05Christian McCaffrey was come back at a player, no come back
- 45:08player. I like that Jackson Smith and
- 45:10Ajigba one offensive player of the year and Jackson Dart didn't
- 45:14win offensive rookie of the year because to me, McMillan was the
- 45:18best rookie as far as offensively all season long.
- 45:22So I'm not going to. I'm not saying Jackson Dart
- 45:24doesn't deserve any of the accolades.
- 45:26I just don't think I I would have given it to him.
- 45:28He missed the first four games of the season.
- 45:30He played well. I just think McMillan was the
- 45:33guy he was, he helped Carolina make the playoffs this year.
- 45:36He was everything to Caroline and Bryce Young's development
- 45:39this year. So very well deserved.
- 45:41And and by the way, Miles Garrett was by far the best
- 45:44defensive player at the league. I don't think anybody was
- 45:47questioning that. It was.
- 45:49And again, Puka Nakua, you can argue that Puka Nakua was the
- 45:53best offensive player of the year, but Jackson Smith, new
- 45:56Jigba was on that trajectory of breaking records this year.
- 45:59So I'm not going to I'm not going to take that away from
- 46:02him. And they also won the Super Bowl
- 46:04even though they don't look at that.
- 46:05So, and, and to me, there's no doubt that Matthew Stafford was
- 46:10the best player, best quarterback in all the football
- 46:14all season long, at least when he got into the playoffs.
- 46:17And even when he played Seattle, he put a pretty good numbers.
- 46:20He didn't lay up a lousy goose egg throughout the playoffs.
- 46:22And his schedule was not easy. The Rams schedule was one of the
- 46:25hardest in the league. So everything was right but the
- 46:28Mike Frabol, the Mike Frabol decision of making him coach of
- 46:31the year and assistant Coach of the year.
- 46:33Yeah, Matthews ever definitely was MVP.
- 46:34You look at the like the level of competition that he faced in
- 46:37that division alone. And then so even in also even in
- 46:41the AFC too, when you're dealing with NFC South that has a lot of
- 46:44good defenses. Houston's defense was great and
- 46:46the Jacksonville's defense was pretty good this year and he
- 46:49played them. And then he's doing it with
- 46:52Devante Adams. Devante Adams led the league in
- 46:54touchdowns. Devante Adams, I realized that's
- 46:56what I was looking up for, the Hall of Fame stuff.
- 46:57He's now seventh all time in receiving touchdowns.
- 46:59I don't care about history. And Matthew Stafford, obviously
- 47:02a huge reason why making a lot of those tight ends, those those
- 47:04running backs really valuable in that offense.
- 47:07He definitely the MVP, not me over Drake.
- 47:09May I agree with you on Miles Garrett.
- 47:11Miles Garrett was the best overall football player period
- 47:13this year. Like he had the best year like
- 47:15we were talking about with FOIA like MVP wasn't a quarterback
- 47:18award. We I.
- 47:19Don't know, I think Puka Nakua and Jackson Smith Najigbo were
- 47:22pretty damn. Good they were.
- 47:23They were. Puka was the PFF grade #1
- 47:25receiver JSN at the best overall stats, but Puka did a lot, so
- 47:28much more. They definitely were neck and
- 47:30neck right there with offensive. Player, but I like Puka the fact
- 47:32that he didn't win. He he took he took a lot of side
- 47:36of his season this year. He didn't take it away from
- 47:38Jackson Smith the jig. But if they're the game after
- 47:41the award show and they interviewed him and said are you
- 47:43upset that you didn't win? He says it's an award that I I
- 47:46really don't care about. I care about winning
- 47:47championship. So I like that about puka that
- 47:50it wasn't it's not about winning award.
- 47:52It's about winning the biggest award, and that's the Lombardi.
- 47:54Troll. Yeah.
- 47:54And that that's where we always get the dilemma of like, because
- 47:56it's a regular season award, like how much do you have the
- 47:58playoffs in? But it's also the playoffs.
- 47:59Factor in how far your team goes to and Puka.
- 48:02I think JSN had the one big game in the NFC championship game of
- 48:04Puka was great, all three games of the Rams playing in the
- 48:06playoffs. So maybe if they added that in,
- 48:08well, maybe it's. So you think Puka should have
- 48:10won? No.
- 48:10No, no, I'm saying no. I'm saying that if like if they
- 48:13added playoffs collectively, just regular season, just you
- 48:16can't do that all the time. So it's it's a weird dynamic.
- 48:19This year the running games were not as good and as explosive as
- 48:22it was the year before. And I, I don't know if anybody
- 48:24noticed that. And you just heard a guy like
- 48:27Adam. Adam came out and said the
- 48:29obviously the run defenses weren't good this year, but the
- 48:31run offenses weren't really as good as.
- 48:33Yeah, there were a lot of star running backs were very
- 48:35consistent this year outside probably James Cook and
- 48:38Christian McCaffrey and even Jonathan Taylor kind of fell off
- 48:41at the end of the year after he had that really hot start.
- 48:44Derek Henry, too. Derek Henry, Denmark Henry had
- 48:46some bulk games, but was very inconsistent too.
- 48:48So I Yeah, that's why you didn't.
- 48:49You're not. Going to see him.
- 48:50No Shaquan Barkley this year. Yeah, So that's why you're not
- 48:53going to see them in comparison to the receivers.
- 48:55For a lot of the offensive Player of the year awards, I
- 48:57agree with you. I'm on the rookies.
- 48:58They I didn't think McMillan was going to win it because usually
- 49:01they give it to the quarterbacks.
- 49:02So. But I wouldn't give it to Dart
- 49:03because Dart didn't play the first five games.
- 49:05So I wouldn't reward somebody that only played 10 games versus
- 49:09only playing the whole season like McMillan did.
- 49:11And same thing with Swessinger. Everyone's saying, oh,
- 49:12Swessinger, stop padded. It's not his fault the Browns
- 49:15offense is so terrible that he's on the field all the time.
- 49:17James Pierce had a good case. He had 10 1/2 sacks in his
- 49:19rookie year for Atlanta. But I think Swessinger.
- 49:21Definitely just stay. They traded, They traded the
- 49:24rights to Travis Hunter for Swessinger, and Swessinger was a
- 49:29better pick. Yes, yeah.
- 49:32They're not giving James Pierce any awards if you were reading
- 49:35the news about James Pierce recently.
- 49:37Yeah, I saw that. I don't think there was there
- 49:40was any anywhere You were kind of like shaking your head at
- 49:45Obviously numbers speak to themselves and that's kind of
- 49:49where they at. I don't I don't know if they'll
- 49:51ever put post season stats into this.
- 49:54No, you. Can't because there's two
- 49:57there's. Two varied of a sample like of.
- 49:59How Yeah, it's not always their fault.
- 50:02Yeah, and I I think that's just part of what it is.
- 50:04But like, Puka was great in the way he did.
- 50:06It's like, yeah, it's awesome. But also he can't talk shit
- 50:09because JS NS numbers were crazy.
- 50:11Like I had a great year. But and and that's the thing
- 50:14too, that I think now with with so much access to all this
- 50:19information and I don't give a damn what they say.
- 50:22We look at this stuff as athletes like we do.
- 50:25You're like, hey, how far away from this guy am I?
- 50:28Like how many yards and and whatever, like we look at it.
- 50:31And so, and I, I think when it comes down to you, you should
- 50:35say that I'm better than him. But at the end of the day, when
- 50:38it comes to it, you see more humility or you see more praise
- 50:43to the guys that get it because you know that their numbers and
- 50:46and you have so much access to watch their film and what they
- 50:49do, because you might try and use something that they use like
- 50:52off a hitch or maybe that stutter step or, or off the line
- 50:56and what they're doing. So I think there's just more
- 50:58respect throughout the game and more access to the knowledge of
- 51:03of how good these guys are that are better than me.
- 51:06But I'm right there. It's not like I'm too far off
- 51:08because they both had unbelievable season.
- 51:10I thought Mike McDonald's the only one that I think was robbed
- 51:14because he had, he won the NFC, he won the whole conference and
- 51:19his schedule, he's in the hardest division in football.
- 51:21You got to play the Rams twice, you got to play, you got to play
- 51:24San Francisco twice. Even Arizona, they're not a shoo
- 51:27in. They're great defense and I
- 51:29thought the way they dominated the NFC all season long, look at
- 51:33how they dominated the NFC. They didn't just beat down on
- 51:36teams, they killed teams. So and Mike McDonald had a
- 51:39rookie and well, he's not a rookie.
- 51:40He's a first year quarterback with the team and he got a
- 51:44three-year hunter and he wins the Super Bowl with that guy.
- 51:47So I mean he coached that team up and he's a young quarter.
- 51:50He's a young coach. I think that he was robbed.
- 51:53They gave it to Mike wraple. I understand why they did it,
- 51:56but MM Wraple, if you look at his schedule, was one of the
- 51:59easiest schedules in the in the NFL.
- 52:01Everybody knows that. How did the committee take that
- 52:04away from Mike McDonald? He was by far the best coach in
- 52:07all of the NFL. I'll give you one that was a guy
- 52:10who didn't deserve. Josh McDaniel is getting
- 52:12assistant Coach of the Year. Clint Kubiak.
- 52:14Over over Kubiak, over Vance Joseph in Denver as the
- 52:19defensive coach. I think they're I could
- 52:22probably, if I really went deep, I might find 5 to 7 guys I'd
- 52:26take before McDaniel. I might look at their defensive
- 52:29coordinator before I'd look at McDaniels, to be quite honest
- 52:32with you. Obviously Drake May had a great
- 52:34season. But again, we've we saw it.
- 52:36We talked about the first hour when we talked about the Super
- 52:38Bowl. Who did they really play this
- 52:40year and how how hard was it really for them?
- 52:43You know, their division was down.
- 52:45The Bills were really inconsistent this year.
- 52:47You know, they got them good the first time.
- 52:50They didn't beat them the second time.
- 52:52What were their real signature wins this season?
- 52:55You know, but you know, power to them.
- 52:57They did what they did and give them the give them the trophy.
- 53:00But I'll remind you, you know, Brian Dabel won coach of the
- 53:03year, too. The Giants.
- 53:05Yeah, so did Matt Nagy, who's on their offensive court.
- 53:07Nagy Well, you know, let's just get those.
- 53:10At least we're not just drafting team captains.
- 53:12Still speedy? Or Senior Bowl MVPS.
- 53:15And well deserved for Christian McCaffrey, he is.
- 53:18He's been great. What do you think about Trevor
- 53:20Lawrence, though? Trevor Lawrence should have
- 53:22given given a little bit more love.
- 53:24More consistency with McCaffrey though.
- 53:27I, I, I will say this, Cohen should have been up for coach of
- 53:29the year too. I mean, what he did in the
- 53:31second-half was first of all, with all the injuries, they lost
- 53:34Travis the gremlin hunter early, early in the season.
- 53:38And the way they picked up and, and it wasn't their stars that
- 53:40really picked up. It was these guys that that were
- 53:43brought up in the scrap heat, some of these drafted picks that
- 53:46they brought in later in the draft and they all, they all
- 53:49started to develop right with right on to Cohen.
- 53:51So I think he deserves a little bit more credit.
- 53:54And he's the one that finally, I mean, he had Peterson coaching
- 53:57him, who obviously won a Super Bowl as the head coach for the
- 54:00Eagles, knocking off the New England Patriots.
- 54:02He couldn't develop a guy like Trevor Lawrence, but a guy like
- 54:06Cohen who helped on Baker Mayfield.
- 54:09I think Canalis deserves a little bit more credit than
- 54:11Cohen does, but and getting the chance that he had this year to
- 54:15take over. And by the way, Cohen wasn't
- 54:17going to take that job until at the tail end before the OTA
- 54:20started. He wasn't.
- 54:21He didn't want that job until they fired the GM so.
- 54:25Getting rid of Trev Balky finally after all these years.
- 54:27Best thing for the organization. I'll give you one more name too.
- 54:29The team that had the most injuries in the NFL and they
- 54:32made the playoffs. They want to playoff Ben Johnson
- 54:34with the Bears, yes. Should be up there.
- 54:36Ben Johnson definitely should get a lot of accolades for what
- 54:40he did, especially with Caleb Williams and and we'll see how
- 54:44Caleb Williams. Assistant coach and Glenn.
- 54:48You know what really bothered me though?
- 54:50Tyler Shuck got five first place votes for Offensive Rookie of
- 54:54the Year and Dart only got one first place vote.
- 54:58I'm going to take Jackson Dart over Tyler Shuck every time.
- 55:01I'm sorry he got those three games that he had good stats
- 55:05were at the end of the season against third stringers.
- 55:07I don't I don't buy against bad competition and they were
- 55:11backups. I don't I'm.
- 55:12Ladies and gentlemen, that is again.
- 55:15If you really. New York Giant.
- 55:16Tyler Shuck is better than Jackson guard.
- 55:18I will take any bet right now. Right now.
- 55:22Don't, don't very. If there's anybody that needs
- 55:24APR person for the New York Giants, there's one guy right
- 55:27there that would be your biggest fan.
- 55:31You're just so upset because there are no PR people for The
- 55:33Jets nobody wants to support. Are you kidding me?
- 55:36The Jets have like 5 PR people, I can't stand them.
- 55:39What do you mean who? I I I just like we're the best.
- 55:42No, I haven't heard a single Jets guy ever a.
- 55:44Lot of them. There's a lot of PR Jet.
- 55:46Guys that they're the best. No, no, I'm telling.
- 55:49You there's no confidence left in the whole family.
- 55:51Please don't don't bring up The Jets and and try to raise the
- 55:54Giants up like they're special, all right?
- 55:56Because the Giants have been just as bad.
- 55:58We got one first place vote for Offensive Rookie of the.
- 56:02Year Garrett Wilson won Offensive Rookie of the Year,
- 56:04and so did, and so did. They won the offense.
- 56:07Not this year. It doesn't matter.
- 56:09It doesn't matter. And when was the last time a
- 56:11giant won? Dell won trophy Once Upon a
- 56:14time. Once.
- 56:14Upon a time. How long ago was that?
- 56:17Please stop what your stop what your giants takes.
- 56:20I want to throw up anyways. We call this call your shot.
- 56:25I'm not an X's and O's guy, right?
- 56:27I'm not a tactician. I'm a motivator in the classic
- 56:29sense of the word. You know, Lombardi, Charles
- 56:31Lindbergh, that nun over in India, like those people call
- 56:35your shot you got. To have the.
- 56:37Booting. Listen, I want some of that
- 56:39popcorn. Throw me some of that popcorn,
- 56:41Jabba. I catch it, see if I can do a
- 56:43virtual There we go. If I could catch it through a
- 56:48screen, I mean, I would be like, that would be magical, you know,
- 56:51catching. That that might happen soon with
- 56:54all the stuff that's going on. That's true too.
- 56:55I mean, we could jump through a screen.
- 56:57Could you imagine that? No doubt, right?
- 56:59No question. That would be cool.
- 57:01I got to go to Nebraska. Screwdriver screwdriving or
- 57:04flying? I'll just jump through a
- 57:05computer screen. Save a lot of gas.
- 57:09Save a lot of everything free. No, you, they they'd somehow
- 57:14find a way to tax it. Oh.
- 57:16No doubt about it. You're.
- 57:17Absolutely. Right about that.
- 57:21All right, So ladies and gentlemen, this is pretty
- 57:23simple. How we do this.
- 57:25We're going to give you a take of something that could happen
- 57:29in the future and we're going to call it.
- 57:31That's how we're going to do it. So, and we're going to call and
- 57:34we're going to tell you why we're calling it.
- 57:36All right, we're going to go with Speedy.
- 57:38We're going to go with Fish. Jabba me.
- 57:40Here we go, all. Right, I'll start off with the
- 57:42Olympics that have just started the host nation in in Italy and
- 57:45Milan is hosting it and they're actually off to a very hot start
- 57:48right now. I've been watching some of the
- 57:49with figure skating, with the the different snowboarding
- 57:52events. A lot of them have meddled so
- 57:54far. Right now, they are currently
- 57:56the leader in total medals with 9 right now, Italy has never
- 57:59finished in the top five in total medals ever.
- 58:01They were 19th, 9th and 11th in the previous Olympics and no
- 58:05host country outside of Russia when they hosted in 24/20/14 was
- 58:10ever top three in their host in when they hosted in the last
- 58:14century. I think Italy, I think Norway
- 58:17and US will be 1 and 2 because they usually always are.
- 58:19I'm going to say Italy finishes in the top three over Germany,
- 58:23over Sweden, Finland and other winter powerhouses that usually
- 58:26get there in total medals. All right, that's a good one,
- 58:30Speedy. I'm going to continue Errol next
- 58:34season. The New York Football Giants are
- 58:38going to go not one, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 678910, No
- 58:45eleven wins next season. And now we play women next
- 58:51season under the diligence of John Harbaugh, the combined
- 58:57efforts of Charles Nagy. And Greg?
- 59:00Norman. Norman.
- 59:03We. Don't need Craig Norman's Aubrey
- 59:06Shark in here too. Greg Roman, we're going to be
- 59:10awesome on offense. And then Abdul Carter, already
- 59:12the number one quick pressure guy in the NFL.
- 59:15My goodness. It's going to be a playoff for
- 59:19the Giants, and then the Sky's the limit for their. 1st we
- 59:22don't need Greg Norman's clutch instincts or Lac alls never.
- 59:25That would not be what we want. No, we don't want Greg Norman's
- 59:28clutch. We won't take his net worth
- 59:29though. This is coming from an organ
- 59:32organization that hired not one, but two offensive coordinators.
- 59:35Good luck. No, he's the run game
- 59:36coordinator and assistant head coach hired.
- 59:39Two offensive coordinators to run that offense.
- 59:42There's a pass game guy and a run.
- 59:44Game Oh yeah very jet like that's going to fail very good I
- 59:47can't wait to watch this debacle all right Jabba, what do you.
- 59:52Got pitchers and catchers start tomorrow and this is the year of
- 59:55the WBC and we have seen Japan and the US be kind of one of
- 1:00:00those teams that are everybody looks at to win.
- 1:00:03We know Otani said he's not pitching.
- 1:00:06We know Judge is the US captain, but I'm predicting neither of
- 1:00:10them are winning. Neither of them are winning.
- 1:00:13I'm going to go with. Team.
- 1:00:17Puerto Rico, and I say that because of who is leading that
- 1:00:25roster. And if you've seen the roster,
- 1:00:29it's fantastic. And when you look at Puerto Rico
- 1:00:34and everything that they do and they stand for, and then
- 1:00:37obviously they love their baseball.
- 1:00:40I think it's literally they're going to surprise people just
- 1:00:43because of everybody expects Japan or US to win.
- 1:00:51And when you got Yachty managing you, that's just an advantage
- 1:00:54because the dude is just an absolute stud and he's going to
- 1:00:57get the best out of his guys. And you've seen it before.
- 1:01:00So Puerto Rico's winning the WBC, baby.
- 1:01:04All right, my Collier shot goes to the Washington Wizards, they
- 1:01:10added. Anthony Davis, they added Trey
- 1:01:14Young, they made their team that much better after the All Star
- 1:01:17break. Anthony Davis will be back.
- 1:01:19They right now are they have fourteen wins and 38 losses.
- 1:01:24I expect this team, this team to win at least 15 more games.
- 1:01:29If they do, they fall out of the top 8 and that means the New
- 1:01:34York Knicks will be landing their pick in the offseason.
- 1:01:39Anything outside of the top 8. So my prediction going in to the
- 1:01:44second-half of the season is the Wizards win at least 15 more
- 1:01:48games, which then they fall out of the top 8, which they lose
- 1:01:51their pick and it goes to the New York Knicks.
- 1:01:53So that is my prediction. The Knicks will land at either 9
- 1:01:57or 11 and get the Wizards pick after losing poor Zingis and not
- 1:02:03getting any first round draft picks for him.
- 1:02:05They're going to land a first round pick where everybody
- 1:02:08thinks they're not going to have one.
- 1:02:09And the Knicks not only will have one, but two first round
- 1:02:12draft picks this offseason. So that means if they want
- 1:02:16Giannis, they can get Giannis. So.
- 1:02:19Let's go there. You go.
- 1:02:20That's my prediction. And I do believe this.
- 1:02:23If the Knicks do not get into the Finals with this roster,
- 1:02:26Giannis will be a New York Knick.
- 1:02:27I I do believe that there were a lot of teams interested in
- 1:02:30Giannis at the trade deadline. Why?
- 1:02:32Why do you think nothing happened?
- 1:02:33Because Giannis didn't want to go to any of those teams.
- 1:02:36And the Knicks didn't want to trade Ogiannonobi.
- 1:02:37Yeah, Giannis did not want to go to Minnesota.
- 1:02:41He did not want to go to Miami and those were the two lead
- 1:02:44teams that were likely to get him.
- 1:02:46He had no interest because he wants to win.
- 1:02:48He always wanted to be a Nick. I think that he's going to wait
- 1:02:51until the offseason if it even if Milwaukee misses out, but
- 1:02:54Milwaukee made a couple of trades.
- 1:02:55They could sneak into the playoffs and maybe make a run.
- 1:02:58They could they could be a play in team.
- 1:02:59But I think even if they fall out, Giannis will be a Nick next
- 1:03:03year, especially if the Knicks don't win a championship because
- 1:03:06you have Hal Burton coming back. Jason Tatum could be back in the
- 1:03:09playoffs. And they're saying that Jason
- 1:03:11Tatum is is almost a definite, we'll be back in the playoffs if
- 1:03:15the Celtics make a run. So not the first round, the
- 1:03:18second round. So the Knicks would have to
- 1:03:19contend with a somewhat healthy Jason Tatum if the Celtics get
- 1:03:25out of the first round. And the Knicks right now would
- 1:03:27match up against the Celtics in the second round 23.
- 1:03:29Yeah, so very interesting the crap out of them the other
- 1:03:32night. Yeah, Did you see Jaylen Brown
- 1:03:35and and some of his remarks to his team after they lost that
- 1:03:37game? For some reason, Jaylen Brown
- 1:03:39can't stand the Knicks, and like his turning point is always when
- 1:03:42they lose against the Knicks. Dude, Alvarado, Alvarado's
- 1:03:45making a difference. They could they switch Alvarado
- 1:03:48off and Brunson on defensively now when they're both out there
- 1:03:53and now he's like not a it's not a problem.
- 1:03:56They are hiding him defensively on the perimeter, which they
- 1:03:59weren't able to do before. It's pretty damn good.
- 1:04:01He's so happy answer. He's so happy.
- 1:04:02To be there too, man, you could see it.
- 1:04:04His father, his mother, his family was there.
- 1:04:06And Alvarado I think is going to do, it's going to help for the
- 1:04:10regular regular season, but mainly for the playoffs against
- 1:04:13Cunningham. He did not play against Detroit.
- 1:04:16When they play Cunningham, I expect him to be a big part of
- 1:04:20their run this year. And even if they miss out on
- 1:04:23winning a championship this year, they have a player's
- 1:04:25option for him next year. He'll be back next year.
- 1:04:28And that means the Knicks will have money to maybe bring in
- 1:04:30Dante Divincenzo to add a shooter and maybe Giannis.
- 1:04:33So and Dante is a free agent next year.
- 1:04:35And I, I, I could see Dante coming back.
- 1:04:38They need another shooter and I think that could happen.
- 1:04:40So very interesting. Well, let's not talk about the
- 1:04:42offseason. The Knicks could still make a
- 1:04:44run for a championship. So we'll see.
- 1:04:46Anyways, that's it for our show. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you

- 1:06:08I mean, obviously you're my partner.
- 1:06:11Do you have anything to say before we go?
- 1:06:14No, it's just been it's been a fun run.
- 1:06:16This is going to be a great year.
- 1:06:18Obviously, hang with me. It's going to be touch and go
- 1:06:21with Carter and all the stuff, but love being a part of it.
- 1:06:25Love having you guys on. You guys haven't met me yet, but
- 1:06:28my dumb ass is right here. So glad to have you.
- 1:06:32But no, it's it's been fun. I've learned a lot.
- 1:06:35I pay attention to different things more and what I pay
- 1:06:37attention to is thanking all the people that watch and spend
- 1:06:42their time and when they're in the car, just listen to us and
- 1:06:45downloading us and, and just listening to the craziness or
- 1:06:48whatever the hell is going to come out of our mouths because
- 1:06:50we don't really know. This is not scripted.
- 1:06:52We just kind of go, we kind of have a, an, an outline of what's
- 1:06:56going to happen. We don't know if it's going to
- 1:06:58really happen. But no, just appreciate
- 1:07:01everybody. Appreciate all you guys and your
- 1:07:02time and the hard work that everybody puts in and it's going
- 1:07:06to be a fun year. That's all I can say.
- 1:07:07It is. And then congratulations to your
- 1:07:09son. He's he's got a chance to do
- 1:07:11some big things at Hutch and then D1 baseball possibly.
- 1:07:15So I'm hoping for the best for your kid.
- 1:07:17And Carter has been a fan of our show and we're a fan of his and
- 1:07:21we only wish him the best. And we have a lot of great
- 1:07:23things coming up and we're going to.
- 1:07:25Announce Oklahoma. There you go.
- 1:07:28So yeah, well, that's true too. But we have a lot of great
- 1:07:32things coming up and and like I said, it's going to be a big
- 1:07:35year for us. I really do believe that by by
- 1:07:37September, we're going to have a huge announcements and, and, and
- 1:07:41all that other stuff. So for all the fans that TuneIn
- 1:07:43and support us and and love what we do.
- 1:07:46Like, like Jabba says this, this show is not scripted.
- 1:07:50Everything we do is off the head.
- 1:07:51We don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:07:53And that's what makes us unique. We don't have people talking to
- 1:07:57us in our, you know, our ears giving us information before we
- 1:08:00speak. You know, it's, it's really just
- 1:08:02off the cuff. And that's what makes the the
- 1:08:04show very unique. And that's what makes us
- 1:08:07interesting to listen to. So thank you to all the fans.
- 1:08:10And we'll be back on Thursday. Speedy, who do we have?
- 1:08:12All right, ex Giants Super Bowl champion linebacker Gary Reasons
- 1:08:15will be joining us on 840. 5 Gary reasons SO is very well
- 1:08:19known with the with with, I'm sorry, with the Giants
- 1:08:22organization and some of the things that they that he's done
- 1:08:25in the past. One of the better what what do
- 1:08:28they what do they say? Goal line people, right?
- 1:08:31Goal line stand people. One of the best plays of all
- 1:08:34time on the goal line. Yeah.
- 1:08:36So, well, I'm, I'm interested to interview him.
- 1:08:39I've never interviewed interviewed him before.
- 1:08:40And I want to thank Nathan for getting him.
- 1:08:43It's been a long, long day and it's time to eat good night.
- 1:08:48You're listening to the Worldwide Sports Radio Network.
