- Mariners shake up L.A.! This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday, July 29th. In MLB, the Seattle Mariners clipped the Los Angeles Dodgers 7 to 6, the kind of win that lands a little louder because Los Angeles came in with baseball’s best record and Seattle had just stumbled through a rough road series in Texas. Dominic Canzone entered as one of the Mariners’ real power sources, and Seattle needed that kind of bat to steady the week. Elsewhere, the Detroit Tigers shut out the Baltimore Orioles 14 to 0, the Miami Marlins blanked the Philadelphia Phillies 1 to 0, the Chicago Cubs handled the St. Louis Cardinals 10 to 2, and the New York Yankees edged the Chicago White Sox 3 to 2. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 105 to 95, while the New York Liberty outlasted the Los Angeles Sparks 113 to 109. Looking ahead, MLB resets with a full Wednesday board, led by the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets playing a doubleheader at Citi Field after Tuesday’s weather postponement, so that rivalry gets two chances to set the tone in one day. The Mariners and Dodgers run it back at Dodger Stadium, with Seattle trying to build off Tuesday’s win and Los Angeles still navigating a roster that has been waiting on key reinforcements. The Yankees and White Sox continue a series between American League playoff hopefuls, and the Cubs get another shot at the Cardinals in St. Louis. In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream visit the Dallas Wings, and the Golden State Valkyries go to Phoenix to face the Mercury.
