- 0:39Welcome back to a hamster with a blunt penknife the Doctor Who
- 0:43commentary podcast. You join us for a final episode
- 0:47on Zita minor and I'm here with Joe and Dave and Lucy and we're
- 0:54all enjoying it, immensely I think and quite surprised how
- 0:57quickly it's gone. Mmm, it's really you know, these
- 1:00episodes are really, you know, coming through, thick and fast
- 1:03and it's almost a shame. It's the last one.
- 1:06So, We spoke earlier on about how when we first saw this but
- 1:14has our opinion of it changed over the years, have we have we
- 1:18always loved it or did we not like it or Joe?
- 1:23What do you think? No, actually because I had a
- 1:25quick look at the review. I wrote on this about ten years
- 1:29back on my taco reviews website and I gave it an 8 out of 10
- 1:33then. So I think I've always quite
- 1:34like this. Yeah, I've always liked plenty
- 1:37of evil. Okay, Lucy.
- 1:40Well I only watched it in the last couple of years as far as I
- 1:42can remember. So I haven't had very long to
- 1:44change my opinion of it but no I liked it I liked it from the
- 1:47beginning. I do I'm always up for an
- 1:50in-studio jungle as well as we've been saying.
- 1:52This is a really good jungle. I like I like the characters and
- 1:57the way the Dynamics between the characters and the performances,
- 2:00especially Sorenson who's just fabulous.
- 2:05And I'm definitely up for the sort of phony Jekyll and Hyde
- 2:08thing to so yep. I enjoyed it.
- 2:12And Dave, what do you think? I've always liked this one.
- 2:16I think it's one of the underrated tones as we discussed
- 2:20earlier. It's just overshadowed for a
- 2:22fake product people and the other ones in the season, but
- 2:25know my pain is not changed on the stories first type of watch
- 2:28the thickest, bloody brilliant. So, The end of the last episode
- 2:35salomeh has gone full rimmer in that episode of Red Dwarf.
- 2:41Which is it turn, which one a quarantine isn't it?
- 2:46Where he has Mr flibble. He's gone full Mr. Flibble
- 2:49honest and Sorenson has gone. Full Jekyll and Hyde and poor
- 2:54old Sarah. The doctors unconscious and
- 2:58Sara's nose list Lanes, very good at their heavy breathing.
- 3:02Thing is she's being as she's been there.
- 3:04Just about to be jettisoned out. So I think, I think we should
- 3:07start part for and Dave would you like to counter sympathies?
- 3:12Yes, sure, five, four, three, two, one.
- 3:18Let's go. The only problem with this title
- 3:25sequences that the light on top of the tower, this looks a bit
- 3:29weird it looks bit fake but yeah.
- 3:32How can kids not be scared about that picture of Tom Baker.
- 3:38He's actually in the episode is great and a reassuring presence.
- 3:42Hmm. Yeah, I must have only been
- 3:52about 19 or something, but I was more excited than scared to be
- 3:56honest. When I saw that the for all God,
- 3:58this looks really exciting. The talus is coming up and yeah.
- 4:02Oh, he's been his. I actin generate I if if you if
- 4:07you can't afford them to spend out too much money on a cosplay?
- 4:10Can I suggest if you've got from your childhood?
- 4:14The old Connect Four game, just get two of the red counters and
- 4:17stick them in your eyes, Bingo. You Professor Anderson?
- 4:21Lex comfortably, a quick dose of conjunctivitis or sort you out.
- 4:25You want your, right? You if you like your eye to look
- 4:28like a pickled grape, I can definitely not recommend having
- 4:31conjunctivitis hamsters budget cosplay.
- 4:36Yeah. Oh yeah, we go.
- 4:40Forcing him down on the lever. Yep.
- 4:47There we go. She's Sarah.
- 4:50That's why Barry. Let's cast this Laden because he
- 4:53said that she was the only. She was the only actress they
- 4:56saw who could convey being scared and being brave at the
- 5:00same time. Hmm.
- 5:04Sent out. This is the cabal Dixon help.
- 5:06There isn't anybody except I seem to remember there was a
- 5:09shadow on the wall. Yeah, sorry.
- 5:15Sorry, Lacey. No, I wasn't even say, it's
- 5:17really the use of the use of Shadows of not showing the
- 5:21thing, like you had the whole of the almost, the whole of the
- 5:24first episode before you saw the division effect of the
- 5:28antimatter. And now we've seen the, the
- 5:31creature sort of looking around corners.
- 5:33Has. And we saw it bending over to
- 5:35homes body but we haven't seen much of it.
- 5:38So the the anticipation of it is more scary than the thing.
- 5:41Arriving is taking control asks, offing look really scary as
- 5:50well? Yeah, they could look a bit
- 5:52comic and they, but they don't, they look know that same worse.
- 5:56I think it's obvious. They've only got the one though.
- 5:59I don't know. I could be wrong, but yeah.
- 6:04They say this pair together out on this link.
- 6:08That just magic and that's yeah, that's Tom getting, you know,
- 6:12can I just look a little bit? Can I just because the way he
- 6:14saw clambered out of it, sort of legs came up, over for over his
- 6:18head and it's just, yeah, that's David milolii.
- 6:21Letting Tom do. Do some, you know, bit of bit of
- 6:25funny, comedy acting a little bit and now Tommy's realize it.
- 6:28Now, the doctor is realizing that it's because Sarah's been
- 6:31Sarah consents, the chain Change of the antimatter, you see socks
- 6:37and she called it. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:39Right back to episode one, isn't it?
- 6:41Well yes, in the forest. Yeah.
- 6:45Who descend to the level of brute?
- 6:46I think he's well on the way there.
- 6:49What's really clever is how structured this is because that
- 6:52the first episode climax is on the the reveal of the creature,
- 6:57a second episode leading up to like, was down the whole.
- 7:01The third episode is kind of source.
- 7:04And changing. And then the fourth episode,
- 7:06they sort of Go full zombie movie, don't they have all the
- 7:09electronic men? Yeah, going through the doors
- 7:12and that it's based on the siege.
- 7:16Yeah. It is, isn't it goes from?
- 7:17Yeah, from the only thing is, one of the things about the
- 7:22Hinchcliffe area that seems to be, is that there are a few
- 7:25stories where you get all the locations shooting in the first
- 7:29couple of episodes. And then by the end of it, by
- 7:31the last episode, everything's all in the studio.
- 7:35You get that with Genesis of the Daleks that you get that with
- 7:38Talons Wang qiang as well. They obviously put the bulk of
- 7:43the location filming already. Eating fill me in the first
- 7:46couple two or three episodes and then the last episode is all in
- 7:51the studio. Yeah, I don't know.
- 7:53Sir, is that something that's do?
- 7:55You notice that it, whether that's something from, just this
- 7:57era, or was it sort of all all these?
- 8:00I like to start with a bang, don't they like to start with my
- 8:03expensive opening Genesis is the most obvious example where most
- 8:08of episode one is on location and then none of episode six is
- 8:12it's all down in the bunker. Yeah.
- 8:14But then again, in this location isn't the location.
- 8:18Well I think they couldn't they did consider eating like sort of
- 8:21yeah I suppose. So yeah but that was part.
- 8:24I suppose that was possibly part of the constraints that they
- 8:27were under two to do things in. In chunks, maybe just the way
- 8:33and unnecessarily just saw Tom, they're celebrating the flashing
- 8:37light and the door Commander down.
- 8:41Yeah, it could be like a hobby, isn't that, right?
- 8:43Yeah, yeah, yeah, suppressive. And we also had, what's his
- 8:49name? Salim are saying, oh, what we're
- 8:52gonna do now? We're all going to die.
- 8:53Give an order. You're in charge.
- 8:54Now. Yeah.
- 8:56Grow up without person looking at him like, yeah.
- 9:05How did you ever get this job? Yeah.
- 9:09Talk to the right people or sorry.
- 9:11I shouldn't see that. Oh, he's found the doctors found
- 9:17the flask. Yeah, I like to think that for
- 9:20schinsky, sent a letter to to the head of the restaurant,
- 9:25space Fleet and said, Dear Sir, you misread, my my request.
- 9:31I said I wanted to work on a spaceship with a salad bar.
- 9:38The doctors found the antimatter that Sorenson had and he's
- 9:42adding the stuff to it to make it.
- 9:45You think he'd have a swig? Wouldn't you told by her loves a
- 9:47drink? Yeah, he may be mad, but he's
- 9:50not stupid either. It just shows as well though it
- 9:55was happening. This Silence has been.
- 9:56So that's a big city. Yeah, it's being.
- 9:58It's turning to Mush piss. Yes.
- 10:01Didn't know. Did anybody major, which Was a
- 10:14direct sequel, to this story written by Simon missing him?
- 10:18No, no, sorry. Well, I didn't either.
- 10:21I'm curious. Have you read that you?
- 10:23I have. Yeah.
- 10:24And I'll tell you what, entirely missed the point because like
- 10:28most of the Virgin stroke BBC books, it was extremely graphic,
- 10:33and violent, and a bit, a dull. So, this goes for like subtle
- 10:39scares, you know, and smart writing, and there it is like
- 10:44They basically, they're go to my restaurant and it's this
- 10:47horrible, like policed environment, where everyone's
- 10:50tortured, and it's just a nasty read.
- 10:55Yeah, not great. You miss the point.
- 10:58That's dr. It's a fifth doctor about Nissa
- 11:01Nissa gets taken over by the, but the antimatter, and because
- 11:05every monster She really gets the rough Edge in those virgins.
- 11:10Yeah, you adventure books, doesn't she passed?
- 11:13Doctor books. Is your vampire one as well.
- 11:16Yeah, that's all for coming out, isn't it?
- 11:19Yeah, something weird happened. In the noise, isn't it?
- 11:22Where they just like being horrible to everybody.
- 11:25But now the doctor doctor is telling effectively telling
- 11:28Sorenson that he has to kill himself Would you seek dark for
- 11:32a we? Yeah.
- 11:33That's what he's quick. He's completely serious.
- 11:35He says, we buy our power to experiment that cost of total
- 11:39responsibility. So that's a great feeling.
- 11:42You have to take I may have misquoted because it's gone off
- 11:44the screen now but you have to take responsibility for what's
- 11:47happening to you and what you're going to do to everyone else and
- 11:52eject yourself or yeah, get off the ship you know it's like he's
- 11:57not even looking at him. He says Passive?
- 12:01Yeah, because that still because he's gone through.
- 12:05There's no, there's no point in Rage anymore.
- 12:07He's gone through that and gone out the other side and what's
- 12:10left is and he's talking to him as a scientist as well.
- 12:14When he comes in, he says you're ill.
- 12:17You thought you'd made a. You thought you'd made a vaccine
- 12:19but it's not going to work. It's too late and now he's gone
- 12:23Bonkers. Oh god.
- 12:25Look! Yes.
- 12:27Well this is it this is what made me think of hindle as well.
- 12:29It's like, he's completely. He's reached completely the end
- 12:32of his capabilities and he hasn't got anything left except
- 12:35to go nuts and kill himself effectively because if you, you
- 12:39know, is it when he opens that it's going to take him of it so
- 12:43he's completely lost it. Did you notice there another
- 12:46Advantage for that split level set was?
- 12:48They could put the cameras up there and shoot down.
- 12:50So that Studios film massive. Yes.
- 12:54And you get the view from the view from above and of evil.
- 12:58Yeah, David malan, anybody's brilliant.
- 13:02Will you get the sense of it as a real physical space, don't
- 13:05you? Because there's the corridors
- 13:07and then the hatch is coming down and it feels like something
- 13:10that you could actually walk through.
- 13:12Did any of you watch the Tom Baker years when that came out
- 13:15yesterday told by a cat watching a load of clips of himself and
- 13:18having a great time doing it. And trying to remember, well one
- 13:21planet of evil comes up, it's a clip from episode 4, where is
- 13:25going? Is this what it says?
- 13:57because my We watched that episode of Star Trek when we
- 14:00were studying Jekyll and Hyde, because my a level English
- 14:03teacher was a huge fan of the original series Star Trek.
- 14:06So, she brought the video in and we watched it in class and we
- 14:10were waiting for the moment with the hand, but it's too late.
- 14:13He's gone. It's super clever that bit
- 14:15because obviously, it's been established what that lever
- 14:18does. So he's there trying to commit
- 14:21suicide. And then we know he's been fully
- 14:24taken over by the antimatter creature.
- 14:26When he actually goes, no, Oh yes, you know, but it's all
- 14:31done. There's no dialogue is not, it's
- 14:33not talking down to people. You just figure it out.
- 14:35What's the action that's playing out?
- 14:38I like that. It's treating the audience with
- 14:40a bit of intelligence. Yeah.
- 14:43You know, it's none of that. He was the doctor all the time,
- 14:46you know, like blog. He's got to be stopped.
- 14:51Yes, Tom because if because if he shoots sons in with that they
- 14:57all get mobilized. Hmm, nobody taking down email or
- 15:02however many. He said, yes, here's a live
- 15:05reading in a minute though. It kind of goes, no solemn are,
- 15:11don't use the atomic accelerate all as well.
- 15:14I ate just sounds a bit bored by here.
- 15:17Yeah, well, this is a point where you Said that you've said
- 15:21that several times, is this simple, ridiculous things that
- 15:24don't make any sense several times and you've just kind of
- 15:28had enough I suppose. Oh, here we go social effect.
- 15:30Now when high end of this effect, this was a bit on the
- 15:34Tom Baker your statement Tom sees this button that you know
- 15:36if it's all because yield is something sudden the corner is.
- 15:38Yeah. And he literally just whatever's
- 15:43the eyes go even wider that though.
- 15:44Yes. Perhaps, you didn't sit, maybe
- 15:47you didn't see it. The first timer.
- 15:49I mean, we don't know if you want, But don't they have about
- 15:51that sort of that special effect where you sort of like Sorenson
- 15:55splitting off. It's not something they do in
- 15:58sort of like 70s music videos like Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 16:00Oh yeah, yeah yeah. Yeah, I live absolutely tells
- 16:06you what's going on as well, doesn't it?
- 16:08Yeah. I need an ND saying you things
- 16:13could get worse. I don't believe.
- 16:14It's their ever said enough as well.
- 16:16I think we all adore Visions. Get this point I already did.
- 16:20He's found is good. It's almost like it's a, the
- 16:25moral of the story is, don't be a salomeh, be a visit to be of a
- 16:29schinsky. It's nothing else you and you
- 16:33get to survive to the end credits after that's always good
- 16:36advice, you know, don't guess. But yeah, the other thing about
- 16:39wyszynski Z the, the you get the sense that it's support of their
- 16:43there, a military operation, they've come from militaristic
- 16:46society. But talking about that, the
- 16:50novel that you were just talking about and it's a horrible place.
- 16:52Everyone's get getting tortured but this man is part of it.
- 16:55Yeah. So if he's part of it, then that
- 16:57doesn't quite convinced. Does it know?
- 16:59And you've got, you've got the impression that Salim all was
- 17:02the exception rather than the rule.
- 17:04But is that, is it, the novel, making it out that it was the
- 17:08other way around. Actually vicinity was the
- 17:09exception. Well, I think even with a
- 17:12hard-on for violence in the 90s and they fought for everybody
- 17:15wanted and it was just all a bit misjudged with it in with the
- 17:21harm even though he's Quite a sort of you know when a minor
- 17:24character he gets a little bit of dialogue where he saw
- 17:27moaning, but he has to carry the samples back out again.
- 17:31You carrying One Way, carry them back way and just that, gives
- 17:34that little bit of background color to, what could be a very
- 17:39one-dimensional character. So it's and then that in turn
- 17:43makes you feel sad when he gets killed.
- 17:45So yes. Yeah.
- 17:47They think it's. Yeah.
- 17:51You know, Zeta major weapon or ester of being a militaristic.
- 17:54Dictate dictatorship is a bit. Yeah.
- 17:58You you're right. Joe, it completely misses the
- 17:59point. How do you imagine?
- 18:01They do the special effect of that anti, man, because that be
- 18:04a minute ago where he came through the door.
- 18:06They saw a little, like, they were made our silk.
- 18:08It was really, it was the same at the, it was the, the effect
- 18:14that of the creature on the planet.
- 18:16He's now turned into the orange or red.
- 18:23Computer effect, rather than a person it looks really
- 18:26impressive, though. It should look a bit Pony,
- 18:30shouldn't it? Because it doesn't, I'm not
- 18:32sure. But I think they shoot the
- 18:34character shoot, the, the character on all the actor,
- 18:38Honor on the CSO screen and it's sort of the, and if they liked
- 18:43it really brightly or something, and that's how they get the, the
- 18:47outline of it, And the, how you get the sort of the lines of
- 18:51the, you know, so you get the sort of shape of it but not the
- 18:54whole substance of it. Yeah, it might have thought.
- 18:57Looked very awkward on leak that that but lately.
- 19:00Yes, yeah, yeah. Well, it's supposed to be the
- 19:04regression. The regression.
- 19:05Isn't it because he says, he will regress to a brute.
- 19:08So there he is. There's another one.
- 19:11Oh, that's the actual one sailor.
- 19:14Imagine that tighten up on your door for a day, honestly.
- 19:19Two runs his teeth. Oh, that's my life.
- 19:25Must be that, that beaten in bottom, where they make a
- 19:28cocktail, at of all kinds of things that you really shouldn't
- 19:31drink, and he says he's going to call it the Esther rantzen.
- 19:33Why? Because it pulls your gums back
- 19:35over your teeth. Why is he unconscious now?
- 19:41So the doctor shortened him. Yeah, sure.
- 19:44Sure. Him and luckily, luckily, this
- 19:46stunning still at the stun gun still worked on the Anti person,
- 19:50so he's taking the taking them off the ship.
- 19:54I think the original ending for this, they were saying was that
- 19:57Sorenson was supposed to just die.
- 20:00Yeah, and I can't remember if it was Philip Hinchcliffe a robber
- 20:03times or someone said no, no, we should have a more optimistic
- 20:07ending than that. And that's why the characters
- 20:09brought back. I think the most sensible pinch
- 20:11lifia. I was in school.
- 20:13If yeah, Robert of just having killed off, Yeah, he's a pretty
- 20:20flimsy in, as we find out in, get up that hill.
- 20:27But by all accounts, Elizabeth faith and says, in her
- 20:30autobiography, that this was a, such a happy set, like that that
- 20:33everybody involved quite often is, I think the case that people
- 20:37start eight, do that partly is a sort of reaction to doing
- 20:42serious stuff that people just kind of feel almost
- 20:47subconsciously that they're gonna that they got to have a
- 20:49laugh that they going to be get on with each other and have fun
- 20:53Whispering about these Duffer's though because she says that her
- 20:55two favorite stories to work on. The monster a Peloton other.
- 20:59So I'm not saying this is a Duffer but is considered sort of
- 21:02like we said this all the Lesser yeah yeah well sir Peloton and
- 21:05this partly time fly as well. Was a complete Riot to work up
- 21:09or you can imagine that gone. Yeah I think is I mean something
- 21:12you get a script like time flight and then you turn up on
- 21:15the studio day and you've got that set with a false
- 21:19perspective and you've got that little model conquered, that's
- 21:24on the some a tray of sand and dirt.
- 21:27The supposed to be and you get one wheel that looks like it's
- 21:32kind of a Reliant Robin. Let alone a Concorde and I say,
- 21:35bring in the monsters and I was walking towards walking and
- 21:38you're like God or we better ask them just to laugh.
- 21:41Yeah, I'm probably being naive, but they call they call the
- 21:47Janet Fielding refers to those characters that the, the be a
- 21:51crew. As crispin's, boys.
- 21:53What's the time? Do you know what, what's, what's
- 21:55that? Is that?
- 21:56Yes, because all the Us were gay.
- 21:58So okay. Right?
- 22:04Yeah, the guy in EastEnders. Wasn't it was one of them?
- 22:07Yeah, yes, Michael Cashman. Yeah, it's an MP Now, isn't he?
- 22:12Yeah. He was in the EastEnders episode
- 22:17which I didn't watch, but I read about and seen about on Twitter
- 22:20of, but of June. Dr. Cotton's funeral he came,
- 22:23his character came back for that and they let them kiss in that
- 22:27episode because they, yes, let them kiss back in the 80s with
- 22:30the. Yeah, not not eat.
- 22:32I think one of them kissed the other one on the forehead or
- 22:35something in the, in the, in the first episode.
- 22:37I remember it happening at the time.
- 22:40And yes. So he was somebody who I follow
- 22:43follow him on Twitter and he was saying about how it how
- 22:47important it was and how grateful he was that they.
- 22:49And also, I gather that June Brown, from what I read about,
- 22:53her was a great supporter and a lie to her gay colleagues when
- 23:00she's at a time when when other people definitely weren't so
- 23:05they felt that that was appropriate as well.
- 23:11So yeah, here they come, they mount the antenna sort of
- 23:18walking, like, Gumby's out Monty Python They're different like
- 23:22organized to me. I don't know if I could see what
- 23:25you've made about the oh groans. Yeah, that's the sort of each
- 23:27this kind of. Well, it's the thing.
- 23:28When people in science fiction, regresses needs the, I play like
- 23:33the pro boards. Yes, I like this.
- 23:36But coming up with fish and ski and he says The doctor is
- 23:40territory like what - yeah, did you know if I do want to be this
- 23:46person but when they were a crap in front of the ol.
- 23:49Yeah. Did you notice the rock?
- 23:51Backdrop was wobbling all over the place.
- 23:54No, I didn't really like it. Yeah.
- 23:59But then you know they were chucking antimatter around.
- 24:02It was still quite. Yeah.
- 24:03That's a terrible effect on Rock.
- 24:05Yes. Do you think it would look more
- 24:08convincing? Fencing.
- 24:09If it was all on film, I know this is something that Peter
- 24:11Davison. Always says, sure for sure like
- 24:15the forest in Creature from the pier and that's all on Phil and
- 24:20I just it just looks like it's outside all the time.
- 24:23Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 24:24For you kept got lots of contrast in this one with sort
- 24:27of the bits that aren't and the bits that are.
- 24:29Yeah. And the bits that are look
- 24:30amazing and and the bits that aren't look like they're in a TV
- 24:34studio. So it's the but I think it might
- 24:36be like In the if it was either all it wouldn't necessarily show
- 24:42so much, but because you've got both, but like I think even
- 24:46though, you know, I will was wobbling when there are fine
- 24:48about it. But away from that, I just think
- 24:51it is lit sympathetically, and it looks good.
- 24:56You just know each other in that, in that ceiling.
- 24:59There's also a panels. Did you know his?
- 25:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:02What the hell? But ceiling pack controls this.
- 25:06This was that the same. They have Pertwee Sera or is it
- 25:10is a completely new set? The way we use for what 42
- 25:13stories think, it's new? I think not sure the Sarah think
- 25:19he's dead again. Yeah, yeah, she's always doing
- 25:22that. And she yeah.
- 25:23So to be fair to her, she'd only just got to know him and he
- 25:29nearly died and then regenerated.
- 25:31So it does make a joke of it. I'm pyramids of Mars.
- 25:34Where? Yeah, well I was dead, didn't
- 25:36you? Yeah, you're always do.
- 25:37In that, I love the fact that Liz's Sarah is looking very sort
- 25:42of Uncertain like yeah, looking back is.
- 25:44Yeah, yeah, I thought we were shot of him honestly.
- 25:50Oh yes. Threatened her and turn into the
- 25:55apprehension. You get the impression that he's
- 25:58lost. He's met all these memories been
- 26:00affected by this change back because he's very some point of
- 26:05told ya. We're not thinking that
- 26:08perception that yeah. Isn't it?
- 26:21I like the fact that he goes. So know you were going on about
- 26:24the kinetic power of planetary forces.
- 26:27One you. Yes, thoughts.
- 26:30Yeah. Oh yes yes I was well fellows
- 26:35and Ladies. Sorry that is the end of our
- 26:40planet of evil Voyage. I'm going to ask you all now to
- 26:44summarize your thoughts on the story and we'll start with the
- 26:48Magnificent, Dave Rennie? So on, you're not asking us to
- 26:52do for free things, each same figure, 12 things at some point
- 26:57tonight. I think it's great.
- 27:27I like this sets the performances, the actors are all
- 27:31really completely committed to the roles.
- 27:35Especially Sorensen is just brilliant and very subtle and
- 27:40building to Completely unsubtle, but the way that he's the
- 27:46personality of his character sort of degenerates, as the as
- 27:49the jaw bone goes on. And also the way that that we
- 27:53are slightly ahead of the other characters in knowing what's
- 27:55going to happen. So you get more Jeopardy that
- 27:57way. So one point one of them will
- 28:00say, well if this happens and you know, it's already happened
- 28:04if he's got the added. Well, yes, he already has.
- 28:06So that increases the Jeopardy and and the regulars are what
- 28:10the two regulars are. Fabulous as always.
- 28:13So yeah. I really like it and the
- 28:15gorgeous, mr. Daniel Noid.
- 28:18Not much, I can add to that. Um, well that's right.
- 28:21Another is I what are the things about this is that it does have
- 28:24a very good ending and that's something that some stories in
- 28:28the Hinchcliffe era. Don't, it's either, you know,
- 28:33sort of a little bit convenient oh it that's the time control
- 28:37from the Tardis or something like that or it's just it you
- 28:40know, just everything, you know, is blown up but it's quite a
- 28:45quite a good ending and it's a good ending that To show that,
- 28:50you know, when Sorenson survives, I think that's it.
- 28:53But I think that was a good, a good call from from Hinchcliffe
- 28:57to because it gives it a bit bit of a, an optimistic end because
- 29:00it is very dark. And, you know, everyone else in
- 29:03the cast is, is killed off, but it's very well directed.
- 29:08It's very well written, the acting is great, you've got, you
- 29:11know, Tom and Liz, absolutely, having a ball and, you know,
- 29:15working off each other working so well, Well together, what's
- 29:20not to like it's not wretched at all and I hope so.
- 29:23If you're listening to this, that we hoped but I hope we've
- 29:26managed to persuade, you just to give it one more chance.
- 29:29You think you've got our job of what?
- 29:31Come after all three of y'all, I'll just say that.
- 29:35I think it's kind of easy for Doctor Who to generate a lot of
- 29:38atmosphere in history. I think it's very easy for
- 29:40Doctor Who to generate a lot of atmosphere in contemporary
- 29:43settings. I think it's very hard and I
- 29:46think they fudge it. A Other time when they go into
- 29:49the future, I think Android invasion is a good example of
- 29:53that, and it's all very creepy when it appears to be on
- 29:55contemporary Earth, then you can go into the crawl, space ship
- 29:57and it all the atmosphere basically just floats away.
- 30:01But this is a really creepy genuinely atmospheric science
- 30:06fiction story. And then show just how it can be
- 30:09done. And certainly was like, the
- 30:10design as well. The design work is on another
- 30:13level and this story and it shows what can be done with a
- 30:16doctor who budget with a little bit.
- 30:17Of imagination and a bloody good director.
- 30:21Yeah, fantastic stuff. Yeah.
- 30:22I'm our Christmas story for nothing.
- 30:24You know. Well, I have to say, just thank
- 30:28you very much to all three of you.
- 30:29I feel like this has been an unparalleled success most
- 30:32handsome thought so and the least amount of work I've ever
- 30:36had to do for like a holidays. Wonderful, I'm hoping I can
- 30:43twist your arm to do another one of these but let's talk on the
- 30:46chat and see if there's another Story that we can, we can all
- 30:49agree on. But yeah, Dave, thank you very
- 30:53much. My pleasure.
- 30:55Thanks for calling me back. Yeah, no, I won't be hauled out
- 30:58onto your podcast sooner. I okay.
- 31:01Thank you very much Lucy. Thank you.
- 31:04Thank you, Daniel. Thank you.
- 31:05All thank you very much. Have a great time.
- 31:07Thanks. Until next time.
