- 0:00Aloha. Sunday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening across the islands today.
- 1:42Today stays mostly dry with light winds—leeward areas are your safest bet for beach time. The Big Island's south slopes might see a brief afternoon shower as sea breezes kick in, but windward areas could see a few scattered showers too. Come Monday, trade winds strengthen and moisture pushes across the western islands, bringing increased showers through early Monday evening. After that clears, mid-week turns windier and wetter again, heaviest on windward slopes.
- 2:05Surf is small across the islands today. Oʻahu's south shore is running 3.9 feet, the north shore 3.4 feet, Kauaʻi at 3 feet, Maui at 2.9 feet—all comfortable for swimmers and beginner snorkelers. The Big Island's Hapuna Beach is at 1.2 feet, great for kids. South shore stays elevated all week, so those spots will hold their swell through Friday.
- 2:22At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, the Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and the Lava Tube Bridge area remain closed. The park sits under a yellow advisory for ongoing volcanic activity. Watch for volcanic ash if you're heading that way, and plan around the closures.
- 2:37If you're planning water time this week, our new guide on beginner snorkeling breaks down the easiest spots by island—exactly what you want with small surf and scattered showers in the forecast. We've also put together a family beaches guide with calm-water picks and lifeguard notes, so you'll know which spots are safest for kids through the windier mid-week stretch.
- 2:55Wednesday winds pick up, Thursday the showers renew, and Friday settles back into typical summer weather. Check the site for what else is happening this week.
- 3:03Grab our snorkeling guide if you're heading into the water today. Talk to you tomorrow.
