- 1:36I'm your host, Tamara K.
- 1:38Anderson.
- 1:39And joining me today is the wonderfully talented and amazing Wendy Christensen, who happens to be my co founder of Women warriors of Light and has also been a clinical licensed social worker for over 30 years.
- 1:55And guys, we're going to use her expertise today as we tackle this difficult question.
- 2:00Does God hear the prayers of a sinner?
- 2:03To kick it off, let's start with the foundational liberating truth found in Romans chapter 3, verse 23, which says, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, all have sinned.
- 2:17If God only listened to perfect people, heaven would be entirely silent and prayer would not exist.
- 2:25The scriptures never present a gospel plan for the flawless.
- 2:29They present a rescue plan for the fallen.
- 2:32In Isaiah, chapter 1, verse 18, the Lord gives a direct standing invitation to every single one of us.
- 2:40Quote, come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord.
- 2:45Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
- 2:51End quote.
- 2:52God doesn't say, come to me after you've cleaned yourself up.
- 2:57He says, come now in the middle of your scarlet sins.
- 3:01But the adversary's goal is to keep you from acting on that invitation.
- 3:06To do that, he weaponizes our mistakes to distort our inner wiring.
- 3:11We're going to now look at the psychological trap that locks our mouths shut when we need to pray the most.
- 3:19Many of us confuse the correction of the spirit with the condemnation of the enemy.
- 3:24Wende is now going to explain the sharp difference between guilt, which moves us forward, and shame, which forces us to hide.
- 3:34And.
- 3:34And I want to talk for just a minute about the difference between shame and guilt, because I do think that they serve different roles when.
- 3:43When we look at guilt and talk about guilt.
- 3:46Guilt has to do with, I've done something wrong, like, I made a bad choice.
- 3:51You know, when my kids do something wrong, I'll say, it's okay, you made a wrong choice.
- 3:55I don't care that you made a mistake.
- 3:57Mistakes are part of life.
- 3:59What I care about is what you learn from that mistake.
- 4:02And I feel like we have a loving heavenly Father who gave us his beautiful son, Jesus Christ to help us to overcome mistakes.
- 4:10That's his whole role and his whole purpose.
- 4:12So guilt is actually there to cause sorrow so that we want to repent.
- 4:19And repentance is what moves us towards change.
- 4:23That's all it is, is.
- 4:24It moves us towards change.
- 4:26But I think a lot of us sit so much in shame, we sit so deeply in shame.
- 4:32And shame is all centered around your worth and your value.
- 4:36Where we feel like I'm worthless because I messed up, because I can't be perfect because I'm not doing things right.
- 4:42I am absolutely worthless.
- 4:45And that's, I think, when the adversary steps in and takes over, if it's moving you towards God, it's guilt, which is moving you towards repentance and change.
- 4:54If it's moving you towards worthlessness and that you have no value, I feel like that comes from the adversary because he's causing you to forget who you are.
- 5:06And then we believe these lies that I'm worthless, I'm no good.
- 5:10And it just really starts spiraling you downward.
- 5:13When you feel like I have no worth and I have no value.
- 5:16Shame tells you that you are too far gone.
- 5:19It convinces you that your personal history has disqualified you from mercy.
- 5:24But if you want to know how far God's listening ear can reach, you need to read the story of king Manasseh in Second Chronicles, chapter 33.
- 5:35Manasseh was arguably the most destructive, aggressively wicked king in all of Judah's history.
- 5:44The scriptures record that he built pagan altars right inside the holy temple, practiced witchcraft, consulted with wizards, and literally filled the streets of Jerusalem with innocent blood.
- 5:56Pretty bad guy, huh?
- 5:58By any human standard, he was completely irredeemable.
- 6:02Eventually, judgment caught up with him.
- 6:04He was captured by the Assyrians, bound in fetters, literally had Hooks shoved into his nose and was thrown in a dark Babylonian dungeon.
- 6:14So sitting in that absolute rock bottom mess, the text records something beautiful quote.
- 6:21And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly and prayed unto him.
- 6:29And he was entreated of him and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom.
- 6:36Wow.
- 6:36He completely changed after that.
- 6:40If God could pierce through the darkness of a pagan Babylonian dungeon to hear the cry of a man who had desecrated his very own temple, do you honestly believe he cannot hear you?
- 6:55Your mistakes have not outrun God's mercy.
- 6:59Remember that.
- 7:00But sometimes it isn't even a major sin that locks us in shame.
- 7:06It's the weight of impossible expectations.
- 7:10You know what I'm talking about?
- 7:11Because we have so many expectations in the church world, right?
- 7:15Wendy is now going to share a powerful experience illustrating how quickly perfectionism can mimic the darkness of sin.
- 7:25I was meeting with this sweet client.
- 7:27She's just graduating from high school, and she had been feeling suicidal.
- 7:33And as we started talking through some of her experiences, she was a perfectionist.
- 7:38And she really pushed hard for good grades.
- 7:41Her goal was to graduate valedictorian.
- 7:44Well, she had calculus.
- 7:47I don't blame her.
- 7:49But she ended up getting a B plus in her calculus class, and she couldn't handle it.
- 7:54She felt worthless.
- 7:55She felt no good.
- 7:56She felt like she had failed and that she didn't matter anymore and that she had just ruined everything.
- 8:02And I thought, wow, look at all the good that you did.
- 8:06And we tend to do that.
- 8:07We, like, throw away all of the good things that we're doing, all the accomplishments that we've had, just for one simple B plus.
- 8:15Right?
- 8:16And why can't we be a B in our life?
- 8:19What's wrong with being a B?
- 8:21Amen.
- 8:23Like, there's so many times when I'm like, yeah, I'm B plus.
- 8:25I might C plus it today, but I'm trying hard.
- 8:29I'm doing my best.
- 8:30And just to give ourselves some grace.
- 8:32And some love, Whether it's a missed expectation at school, a parenting failure, or a deep spiritual transgression, the remedy remains exactly the same.
- 8:43We do not have to present a perfect record to God right now.
- 8:47We just have to present an honest heart to the Savior, a broken heart.
- 8:53And as a sinner, I don't have to be perfect.
- 8:55I am going to sin.
- 8:57But Christ loves and can fill in that void and help me to become enough so that I can realize I'm still a woman that is not broken.
- 9:06But I'm firmly grateful, grounded and centered in Jesus Christ and His grace is sufficient for me.
- 9:12I love that scripture that Christ's grace is always sufficient for me.
- 9:16I am never not enough because he always steps in and makes me enough.
- 9:22And I think that's such a beautiful way to look at the prayer of a sinner.
- 9:27My prayer is that when I make a mistake, Christ will you step in?
- 9:32And he always, always, always says, yes, I will step in and I will make right the wrong.
- 9:41Please don't feel horrible about yourself.
- 9:44Let's walk this together.
- 9:45Continue moving forward.
- 9:47Let's take the next right step.
- 9:48So my friend, the next time you feel the urge to hide your face from God, remember King Manasseh.
- 9:55Remember that your worth is non negotiable in heaven and that Jesus Christ paid for your mistakes.
- 10:03If your heart is heavy with a scarlet stain today, do not run away from the throne of grace.
- 10:09Kneel down, be brutally honest and let the Savior make you as white as snow.
- 10:15He is listening to you right now.
- 10:19To help you step out of the paralyzing cloud of shame and establish a real, resilient and secure connection with with your Heavenly Father.
- 10:29We want to give you our free Roadmap to Revelation 6 Steps to Hearing God in your daily life.

- 10:48They're our gift to you and if the enemy he's bugging you, use the prayer Cast out the Adversary on page eight to get him out of your life and to help you start moving towards heaven.
- 11:02So my friend, until next time, may you remember that God is with you, he loves you, you are his child, that nothing you have done is beyond his redemption and may you arise.
- 11:14Do it God's way.
- 11:15God strong.
