- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Hello.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: How are you doing?
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: I'm good.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Thank you for having me.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Hey, welcome.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Thank you for being on.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So we'll start by saying you're at you are like uh at your dad's today uh because you were gone to your niece's birthday?
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, hello, her birthday party is today, her second birthday.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: So there might be like there might be background noise of dogs barking and stuff.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: My dad was playing loud beather music, which I've turned down.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Abither music.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: That that's how I woke up this morning.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Well you were saying you got up, so it's it's 10am, but you you were saying you've been up since 8, and it's Sunday.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's a Sunday as well.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: I am I'm like I've been up for half an hour.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: That's what I would not this is me on a work day.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: On a work day, I'd be like 5 to 9.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: So I don't know why it's different for you to do on a Sunday.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: But at least I'm taking this very seriously, honest.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: More seriously than my job.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Which you just started as well.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: You got a new job as well, didn't you?
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, congratulations.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: I did get a new job.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: I've only done a week of it.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: But how are you finding it successfully?
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: It's alright.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: I'm still testing the water with what I can kind of um get away with, which not get away with, but um in terms of like what days I can stay at home and stuff.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Because I was really excited to go back to the office because I've been working at home since like March 2020.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Oh that it's actually really hard to go from nothing to everything.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: It's so tiring.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Just like even though at the moment I'm just doing training and stuff, but it's just the whole like being present, like just sitting and like being alert, listening to people, taking in information.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: It's a lot.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I started going back in well, I started a new job in August at um say where, but like uh, but it's very it's it's at a comedy club, and so like it's very weird having to go in and like be around people all the time now as well.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: And so the first like month to six weeks was exhausting.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: You have to be even more on, I think, don't you?
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: I just have to sort of sit professionally, you have to like be entertaining, talk to people, social.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: A big like social energy involved in yours.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And it's yeah, uh, and it's also like very weird hours as well, because it's like you get in in the evening to go and work, and then you work until late at night, and then you come back, and that's that's why I'm like half asleep now.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: Is the fact that I sorry, you did work yesterday, didn't you?
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I worked last night.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Do you know what is a good start to any day?
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: Grown-ups too.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Grown ups too.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is what you're here to talk about.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: My favourite film.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Your fate is it your favourite film?
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Well, I only discovered it relatively recently.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll tell you how I discovered it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: I I was really hungover one day and I was like, right, I need to just put myself to bed, and I'll put a film on, something that's like easy watching that I can just fall asleep to.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: And I was flicking through, I think it's on like now TV movies.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: And I was flipping through and I was like, this looks shit.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: So I put it on and was like, alright, I'll fall asleep to this instantly.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: But um, I was hooked five minutes in.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: I was like, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: Actually, my sister, like, Katie, have you seen Grow Ups 2?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Had she seen it?
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: No!
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Has she seen it since?
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: She has now, and she she was not impressed.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Well, the response to my excited text was like, I've just Googled it and it's got 8% of rotten tomatoes.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: It's 8% from the critics, 53% from the audience, though.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: So that's quite good, Joe.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: That's not bad for the audience.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: That's quite good.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: That's not bad, yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: However, I I I'm kind of leaning with the critics on this one.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, yeah, no.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: You watched it for the first time before this recording, didn't you?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: I watched it for the first time last week.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I watched it last time so I came home from work and watched it as well.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: It was middle evening.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: I came home at midnight and watched it until 2 a.m.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Like a fever dream.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, literally like so weird.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And I was yeah, it it I've never seen the first one as well.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: No, I hadn't when I watched it for the first time.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: The first one is worse, in my opinion.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Like it has a storyline.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: That's what it does seem to be like that people hate the people don't like the the first one as much as this one.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: However, the like what is the plot of this one?
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Um there isn't one because they don't want to be restricted in any way.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: They're create their creativity has free reign, and I respect that.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Because at least no, because I was gonna say, at least the first one has like a plot synopsis, which is that they're like they're going on a vacation with all like the four, they're reuniting the four friends again to go on a vacation.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: I think it's post-a-funeral.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: They get they go back to someone's funeral, and then yeah.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, this one, I think the plot is just Adam Sandler.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: He's moved back home to uh hang out with his friends.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: Both in real life and in the movie.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's exactly what this is.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: But this is these are like the culmination of like those movies that people think of him with.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Like they're gonna be like, exactly.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: All his like classic.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's exactly what it is.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: A paycheck movie.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: I think Grown Ups 1 did surprisingly well, so he was like, Guess we're gonna do Grown Ups 2 guys.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, his first sequel, surprisingly, as well.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: Is it?
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was I only learned that yesterday and I was really surprised.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And it grows like, but this one grows like uh let's see what it was.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I'm saying the US grows.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Um 246 million, which is like decent.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Impressive, yeah.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Although it did cost how did it cost that?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: It cost 80 million.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, maybe getting the actors in.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: I mean like Chris Rock's gonna come with a fake, isn't he?
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Chris Rock will come with a fake.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I bet Kevin James, Salma Hayek.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Oh Salma Hayek, yeah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Kevin James doesn't have he doesn't have much of a role, does he?
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Like, what does his character do in this film?
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: No, I don't know.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Other than the burp snart.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: The iconic burp snart.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Uh and also the first one has Rob Schneider, this one doesn't.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: I think probably apparently he's probably to benefit and no one is clear why.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: He said no, thank you this time.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: I was googling that this morning.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: It's too good for grown-ups too.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Chris Rock is too good for grown-ups too.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: I mean what are you doing?
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Like he had again, Chris Rock doesn't really do a whole lot in this movie either.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: No, he doesn't.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: And I did read that he like he wrote another movie during the the like the tra while he was in his trailer for this one.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Everyone involved is too good for this film.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: But that's what makes it so fun.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: Shaquille O'Neal.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Shaquille O'Neal might be my favourite thing about this movie.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, mine too.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: He's so funny.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: If people haven't seen that, Shaquille O'Neal's role in this film is just being huge.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Being a huge, being huge and being like a cop like at the cop of the town.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: There's two cops in the town.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: There's two cops, yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: One big, one small.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and there's one bit where like a giant tyre goes rogue, and it's a very long scene.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: And then at the end, Shaquille O'Neal just stops it with his body.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: It's so it's such bad CGI as well.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: That bit where he flips over the car and leaves a big dent in the bonnet.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, Shaquille.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Like he his like facial expressions in this are so funny.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And like he is great.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: He's a really good comic actor.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: He is, he's so funny, and like he's funnier than the comedic actors in this movie.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: He actually is.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: He is he's 100% the best part about it.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: He's my favourite bit.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Excellent.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: And my least favourite bit actually is that the weird family that's Tim Meadows and his wife and weird son.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, interesting.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I think.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Did you like those?
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't like it, but I I wouldn't say it's the worst part about the movie.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: That is a big claim.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: I I I would say the worst part might be like I'm looking at all the characters.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Uh I guess it's up there actually.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: I think they're the worst characters.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: They're just I don't really know.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I don't like Nick Swartz's character.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Who's he?
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: He's the bus driver.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, the bus driver.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, no, me neither.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Or like Colin Quinn is the ice cream guy.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: That was I was talking to Ken about this actually when I tweeted that we were doing this, and he was like, I can't wait for you to defend that scene.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, so he's seen it as well.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: He what he watched clips of it for me doing this, and he was just like, I can't figure out what the plot is from these clips.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: I'm intrigued.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh, there isn't one.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like uh it baffles me that you said you loved it, and then the and it then like the Sandler podcast said they loved it as well.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Like, like I think it's really good.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: They've seen all of the Sandler movies, like, how do they like this one out of all of them?
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: I think if you like Adam Sandler, then you like this kind of humour.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: It's very like pureile.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: I like Adam Sandler half the time.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: There's there's a lot of.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: What do you think the target audiences?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: 12-year-olds?
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: That's what I that's what I was thinking.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: It's gotta be targeted at 12 years old.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Like, who else is this for?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Well, I think I can't believe you watched this hungover and liked it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: And it woke me right up.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: It was like 8 pm at night, and I was like, this is the best thing I've ever done.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: And then I wrote like an insane blog about it.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you tweeted that you tweeted it, and I avoided reading it before.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: I should have read it before after I watched it last night.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: It was just, I mean, it's basically just what I'll say now, just about how incredible Grown Ups 2 is.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: I just thought it was so funny, and it is.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: It's just like it's it's funny if you look at it as in like, okay, this is not a good film structurally.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Because there's no structure.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: No, it's not like it's not gonna win any awards.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: It was nominated for loads of Razzies, wasn't it?
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Actually, yeah, it's got the record for like most nominations and without a win or something for Razzies.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, it didn't win!
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: No, it didn't which is really surprising.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: But it is good, but it seems to be like from what I've said about like when I've asked people about it in the last few days, people either hate it or think it's the best form ever.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: It's very like marmite.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: So weirdly enough, like when you when you were all saying like how much you loved it and everything, I was like, well, maybe it will actually be good.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Maybe it'll be maybe it'll be fun.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Maybe maybe the critics are just like going over the top with it, like they do half the time.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And then I was like, no, they're right.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: This is so bad.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I don't get what this movie is.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Like it opens with fun.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: It opens with a scene of like they wait, they wake up and what Adam Sandler and Sam Adam Sandler wakes up and he's married to Salma Hayek.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: First of all, like ridiculous in itself.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: They all have super hot wives, as well.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Chris Rock is married to Maya Rudolph, uh, Kevin James is married to Maria Bello.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: It's ridiculous.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, because Adam Sandler wakes up and he looks he looks up and he sees a deer has broken into the house.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: And which then pisses everywhere.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the scene.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: That's the opening scene is like a deer running around the house, pissing everywhere, including on his son in the shower.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: It's not, it's awful.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, oh no, this is what I've this is what I have to expect for the rest of the movie now.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it does set the tone.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: I was reading something about this earlier actually, and the person described it as that they think it was just a good way of introducing the family.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: So because you do meet all the family, don't you?
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Like husband or wife, and then like you meet the is it three kids or two kids?
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Three kids.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: It's three kids, yeah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Because it's the two sons of the one daughter, isn't it?
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Um actually this it's the only sort of continuity in the film because it sort of wraps it up at the end, doesn't it?
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Gigglesworth, is that what it's called?
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna be a oh yeah, yeah, the the teddy, yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: It's like the monkey, isn't it?
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: And um Yeah, yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because he throws the like it's the the daughter's monkey and the deer the deer is obsessed with it.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Is it a moose?
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: No, I'm thinking it's a moose.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: But but he um yeah, whatever it is, he but he throws the monk the monkeys the the the animal is obsessed with the monkey little monkey toy, and so he throws it and to get it out of the house, and that's it.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it throws it out the door, it chases after it, yeah, and then destroys it.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: And that's oh that opens the movie.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: Um yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: Actually, my other joint favourite character is Taylor Lautner.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, actually, I really like Taylor Lautner in this as well.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: There's a bit where I just for no reason he just does like ten backflips in a row.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Do you want to know something really weird about him in this movie?
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: He's strangely it's like oh for some reason he's uncredited.
- 15:30unknown: Really?
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for no reason.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: He has lines, he doesn't have a name.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: I don't think they name his character.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: He's just like Frat Boy One or something, doesn't he?
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: He doesn't have a name, they don't refer to him with a name.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Well I can't believe he's uncredited!
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Wait, you say they don't refer to him with a name.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: They don't apparently they don't refer to Chris Rock with a name at any point in this movie.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: Don't they?
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: No, they never name him in this movie.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Apparently they've only got his name because of the first movie.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: They don't name him in this movie once.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Nobody says his name.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: To be honest, I can't think of what his name is.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: His name is Kurt.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Or his wife, or Maria Rudolph.
- 16:07unknown: Kurt.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: Do they never give her a name?
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah, they definitely don't call him Kurt, do they?
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: No.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: What is going on?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Like they don't even care enough to like name people.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: I respect that.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Shall we go through the uh as much of the plot as possible?
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Can we?
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Like a summary.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Can we?
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: So all right, do you want to do you want to try and summarise it then?
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: I will try and summarise it.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: Okay, so it's the last day of term before the summer holidays.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it's all on one day as well, isn't it?
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, all on one day.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: Um the kids are finishing school.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know why this means anything for the grown-ups who don't appear to do their jobs anyway.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: It means that it doesn't even mean anything for the kids, it seems like.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so the grown-ups, it's the last day.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: They Adam Sandler's waiting for the school bus with his kids.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: The bus driver turns up.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: He's is he drunk?
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: Is he he's I don't know.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: Inebriated in a way that he cannot drive the bus.
- 17:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: So Adam Sandler drives the bus.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: Um maybe I'm going into too much detail with the summary, but yeah, basically, it's the last day of the last day of school.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: Um, they culminate in a like a summer party.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: The guys decide to have a party like they used to.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Um, then they have a big party at the end where everything is kind of wrapped up, kind of.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they kind of like bring back, like you said, the opening stuff.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: And that's that's and they can and like a couple of things sprinkled in, but then it's just it's an excuse to get all of his friends together.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about Adam Sanders' friends, not the not the characters from the street.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, oh 100%, yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: And just have cameos in this movie, and then just like he just kind of lets them do their own thing, like whatever they want to do, essentially, it feels like.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they have a great time.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: It feels like if you were Adam Sander and you weren't famous, what you would love to just be doing with your life, like living in a small town where you're the hero, yeah.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: Free reign to do stupid shit with your friends.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: Well that's what how I'd like to live.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: You've just made me think about like how they refer to him in this movie.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: It's like he's they're like, oh yeah, he went off and became a big Hollywood star, and then he moved back to his hometown, and uh, because he because uh all of his friends are here, and like that's clearly just describing him as well.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: He's just written himself into it and like for everyone to praise him.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: Back for you guys, don't worry, I haven't forgotten my friends.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: Apparently, for the first movie, he bought them all cars.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Oh god, that makes sense.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Well, that's where the budget went, clearly.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um I'm I'm I'm also baffled by like all of it, like all of his smaller friends in this movie that like clearly don't ever star in anything else that he just funds that's how they get their money, is just by starring in these movies.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: But they're probably all uncredited because some of them like when you go they go into the Kmart, so there's a bit where they just for some reason go hang out in a Kmart.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought that was I thought that was I thought there was a purpose to that, but there was nothing.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: No, that doesn't ever is it sort of implied that they do this every day?
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: Is this like the hangout spot of the town?
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: It's not clear.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: But they go hang out in this Kmart, they have a great time.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: And that's kind of how you meet all the secondary characters.
- 19:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: They happen to be visiting there at the same time.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because you can get, can you get don't they say you can get I can't remember now, but Kevin James's character, doesn't he get like he gets some sort of food at the Kmart?
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: Because when he uses an excuse not to jump in the water because he's like, Oh, I just ate Chao Main.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Like, what you were with us at Kmart?
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: It's like, yeah, it's really good there.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I thought he was joking, so he didn't have to get in the water.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think he was.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they actually do Chow Main at Kmart, but they do everything else.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: It does seem like it.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: There's a point where like one of them's on like uh one of those like uh bikes essentially.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, like a cross grain, yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: And uh one of them's and then they like one of them opens up a a raft at one point.
- 20:17unknown: Oh yeah.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: Oh and that comes back later, that is very funny.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: There's this um there's like on the shelf of Kmart, there's um an inflatable raft where you just press a button and it inflates, and it just obviously it's huge and it destroys all the shelves.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: They just destroy the whole store and then leave.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well they again they have like not and while that's going on, like the all the wives are like in a in in like a uh fitness thing.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, vit victims of a sex crime, yeah.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: It's it's really weird.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: It was John Lovitz as like uh he's like creepy janitor.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he comes in as a creepy janitor, tells them all to like spank themselves, and they all do it, they all follow along, and then like the the real guy comes in, it's like what are you doing?
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: And then they're just like, Oh, you're disgusting, get out of here.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: And yeah, they kind of find it funny, they're not like oh my god, I'm being violated.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Actually, this is where we're introduced to the early bit of the film.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's I I I kind of didn't like that they, you know, that there's that woman who is quite masculine.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: They it's like a referring theme where they like call her a man.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they consistently.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: That's kind of like it's yeah, that's actually I I didn't really notice the first time, and then when I watched it back, I was like, oh, that's actually not very nice.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a very strange scene.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: Like, well, it's not a same scene, it's like very it's very yeah.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: They do it a lot, yeah.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Um but she isn't.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: David Spade refers to her as a woman, so I think I I I just wrote I wrote down there's a lot of trans jokes in this at one point.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Like there is, and they're all yeah, all directed at her.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: So yeah, that's not very nice.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Um It's it's very strange.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: And like I'm surprised, like some.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Of them went along with that as well.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Like the it's mostly the women do.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's Maya Rudolph.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: I remember it like as she was doing it, I was like, You're better than they.
- 22:10unknown: Yeah.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: They all just laugh.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: They constantly like laugh at her as well and point and laugh at her, which is really weird.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they do.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: But yeah, they like bully her.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: And there's a bit where I think Maya Rudolph actually says like she has a penis.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Strange.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Very strange.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And this is not.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're all like.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: So this is 2013.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not even that old.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: Um, that's the only bit that's like maybe it'd be funny if you were a 12-year-old boy, but I think for any other audience, you'd be like, it's not even a joke.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: No.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: It's like it's not even like it's today, it's crude humour, it's just not humour.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: Just bullying.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: I was just looking up who wrote this.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: It was uh Fred Wolf, Adam Sandler, and Tim Hurley, who are like just like the consistent ones that write with him.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know who Fred Wolf is.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna Google him.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Fred Wolf.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: He wrote the original The Magic Dragon.
- 23:10unknown: Puff.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: He also wrote Puff the Magic Dragon.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: He wrote No, this is a different Fred Wolf.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: I've this has gotta be a different Fred Wolf.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: American Animator.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: No, don't worry about it.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: That's not it, yeah.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: He wrote basically he wrote like all the it seems like he wrote all the like the bad like Sandler spin-offs that are quite Adam Sandler once like he wrote like Joker, Dickie Roberts without a paddle.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: House Bunny.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: House Bunny.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Oh he didn't write that.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: He must have been in it.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Or is he did he direct it?
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Let's find out.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, he directed it.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he directed it.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: But he came from like it looks like he came from working with Sandler on SNL.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: That's probably how.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like they all did.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: And then Dennis Dugan, Dennis Duggan is the director.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Who uh I think he directed.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: So when I was on that Sandler podcast, he directed Jack and Jill, which is what I I talked about.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: Oh really?
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: I've not seen Jack and Jill, is it good?
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: I did I didn't think it would be.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: I love Billy Madison.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Billy Madison is like my ultimate favourite.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: He liked directed.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Uh oh no, he didn't direct Billy Madison, actually.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I love Billy Madison.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Um Billy Madison's my favorite.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: I think I'm quite sorry, I was gonna say, I think I'm quite glad that everyone was hating on Adam Sandler for a long time, and then he seems to have, since his Netflix special a few years ago, his you know, his stand-up special, everyone was like, oh, this is actually really good.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: I think since that people have been more people it was, it was great.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: People have been more open to admitting they like Adam Sandler, which I'm glad about.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: I think Uncut Gems helped a lot as well.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: I think like the fact that he came out with those two like fairly close together, like really helped.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: Because it was like they can admit he's a good actor and that he's funny.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: Um Adam Sandler.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: But I do Yeah, I think one of my Oh no, go on, go on.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: I had nothing to say, go ahead.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: I was just gonna say, I love Benny Madison and I love Happy Gilmore.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I love those early ones.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: And then the early 2000s onwards, I kind of like he kind of dipped a lot for me.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm not so sure that I've seen a lot of those ones.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, is it just because we have also aged?
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Like Billy Madison when I was 12.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Billy Madison still holds up though, if you go back and watch it.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I'm going to actually.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: I might watch it later.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, are you gonna um watch it hung over?
- 25:58SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'll make sure I get really drunk at this kid's party and then I'll get back to London and watch Billy Madison.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Are you going back tonight?
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Yes, not not super late.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: I think my train's at like five.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: So I'll get I'll get into London at about seven and then home home like before eight.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: I think I hope.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: That's alright.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: So plenty of time to watch William Addison.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Maybe get drunk on the train.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's true.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: I booked first class just because I was like, treat yourself.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: But um, sometimes between Sheffield and London, it's not a lot more.
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: There's like a 10 pound difference.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, then just yeah, you might as well.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it sounds like I've made a really boozy choice, but I haven't.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: What do you get on the first class?
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: And you do they do give you free alcohol.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, what do you get on the first class?
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: Um on weekdays, they just come around with drinks and food and stuff, but on Sundays, I don't I think you just get a comfy seat.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: I don't know if they actually come around with stuff.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: I think you maybe have to go to the like buffet car and they give you like a coffee and a biscuit or something.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Oh I'd be ripped off.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Coffee and a biscuit for£10.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: That's why it was so cheap.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Um Right, so like let's let's I don't even know where to start with this.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Like who?
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: Right, okay, so scene.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: We've been through scene one.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we've been through scene one.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Scene two is Kmart, isn't it?
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Uh scene two is just scene two is actually them like you meet the rest of the families.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Um yes.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: They're all having breakfast.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: And you find out that Kevin James' son is really stupid.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: That's the joke.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but doesn't get resolved.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Well, it does get resolved, but like, it's not really anything.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: It's just like a minor, minor joke.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: They just let him be stupid.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: He's practicing it's practicing like tense tables or something, isn't he, for school.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: And he's getting them all wrong, and mum is like, well done.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: She Maria Bello has nothing to do in this movie.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: No, she doesn't.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: She barely features.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: This is, I think, the only time she speaks.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: I think she speaks at she speaks the car wash.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: That yoga scene.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Which we'll get to, but yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, of course.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she does yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, and she speaks in the yoga scene as well, and that's it.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there's also She's less of a co hello.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: She's less of a character than Taylor Lawner, and yet she gets credited.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: I'm so if you don't get credited, just you still get paid, don't you?
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Why would they not?
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Maybe he requested one of it.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Maybe he requested don't credit me for this.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: He watched it and he was like, no.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: I was also looking up what Cylinder's been in since then.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Twilight.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: That wasn't Yeah, he's been in like Twilight, obviously.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but then he's he was in Cuckoo, that TV show.
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's also really funny.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: I've never seen it.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's good.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: It's really good.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: But and and then he was in The Ridiculous Six and Scream Queens, but he hasn't been in anything for three years.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: He's not actually.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: He must have made so much from Twilight.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: Do you think he's probably yeah?
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: It was huge.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: But he wasn't even like the main character.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: He was one of three, especially in the later films.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: I've only watched the first one and I've never read the books.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think it was I've never seen or watched any of them.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: My sister was quite into it.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: She's just a little bit younger than me.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: I think I was slightly too old when they came out.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I was too old as well.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, I had too much taste.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Grown ups 2 is more my sort of thing.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: But you only got into Grown Ups 2 recently.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I only discovered it in like it was definitely this year.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: I think it was like May or something.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, so it's very recent.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Also, how many times have you seen it since then?
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: Maybe five.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: You watched it five times since May, and it's now October.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: You watch it like once a month.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: It's a good comfort film.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: It's such a good comfort film.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: What are what are some of other comfort films that you just to get an idea of like your taste?
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: Billy Madison is one of them.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: Other than other than Adam Sandler movies, um, horror films, horror films are a comfort film.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: I watched any horror films any horror films.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: Like any.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: Any.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: I've seen all of them.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: And interestingly, the good if you like look up a horror film and the critics rating is really low and the audience rating is relatively high, similar to Grown-Ups 2, that's a good sign with a horror film.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: What's like I don't watch I don't watch too many horror films, but like what's some like so what are some examples of those then?
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Well, the opposite of that is something like um ones that everyone really liked.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Like, oh, what are they called?
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: What they those are what they're called?
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: You know the one where she Midsummer.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: Midsummer Hereditary.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: Midsummer and Hereditary.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Um, they got really good critics ratings.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: And I didn't really like them.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Maybe we can get into that later then.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: But I'm I'm so you but you like uh oh I'm trying to think of some bad horror films that you could that you all all horror films have have bad um critics reviews.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: That's actually true, yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Most of them do.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: If they have good critics reviews, I won't like it, because it means it's really like arty and it's gonna be annoying.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: So do you hate stuff like The Shining?
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: Wasn't really a fan.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: That's really interesting.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: So if I Google Insidious 3, let's see what um I didn't know there was a third one.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's all it's alright on um IMDB 6.1.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Um 58 on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: That's not the worst.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: No.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: Is there a four?
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: You tell me I literally do not follow for horror films.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: There is a four! 4.3 on Rotten Tomatoes, 5.7 on IMDb.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: So they're getting they're getting progressively worse then.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Uh just like these, I imagine.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Just like grown-ups too.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: And do it No!
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Grown Ups 1 is worse.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: It's got a plot, but it's not funny.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm saying.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: But what is wait, what is Grown Ups 1's rating?
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Uh oh yeah, that's interesting.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Where is grown-ups?
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Um I'm trying to find it now.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Grown-ups 1 has 11%.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, and 60% and 62%.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: So it's exactly 3% better on both uh from both critics and fans.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: That's interesting because it's worse.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: You should watch that.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: You should watch that later if you get a chance.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: I don't ever want to watch that after watching this.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Did you so did you like Grown Ups 1?
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: I watched it immediately after watching Grown Ups 2, like the next day.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Just because I was like, I want to feel this feeling forever.
- 33:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Um no, it was it was disappointing.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: It's it's okay, it's just not as good.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: It's just very average.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: I would have given it 11%.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: That's that's it's very average, I'd give it eleven percent.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: That doesn't make sense.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Okay, maybe slightly higher than 11.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: Maybe I'd give it like, yeah.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: No, I've uh the audience have given it, have ranked it too highly, I think.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: I'll give it a 40.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: A 40%.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: And what would you give this 100%?
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: 90%, because the trans jokes are not nice.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: 90%.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, so 90%.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: It's so fun.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: It's just you can't watch it thinking like I can't wait to watch this excellent film, Grown Ups 2.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: You have to just watch it with zero expectations.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: And I realize I'm ruining it up for everyone because everyone I meet, I'm like, you've gotta see Grown Ups 2 is the best film I've ever met.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Has anyone seen it that you that you've told to see it, liked it?
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: No.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Even my sister, who I think has quite a similar sense of humour to me, she was like, what the fuck is this?
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: She did like the Shaquille O'Neal bits.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that's the only redeeming bit in this movie.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Well, Shaquille O'Neal and Taylor Lorna are the only two things.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Taylor Lorna.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: And the random Andy Sambo cameo.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I hated that.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: I hated that.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: I was like, so strange.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: It's so weird.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: And I love Adam, I love Andy Sandberg as well.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: I love everyone, everyone that's in that scene, I love.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: And I hated that.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: I love I love all the casts, I love everyone in this film, and it should be magic, which is why it is.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Well, I love Adam Sandler, I love Chris Rock.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Don't like Kevin James, don't like Kevin, uh, don't like David Spade.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: So out of the those.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: I quite like David Spade, actually.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: I like I don't like a lot of his films, but I liked him on SNL.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Like when you watch the old SNL ones, he's one of the only ones that I found actually funny.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: Like Adam Sandler was not funny on SNL.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Oh no, yeah, like Adam Sandler on SNL.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: I yeah, he's it's a good thing he got away from that.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: Um he got fired.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they all got fired.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this um they did.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: But David um David Spade was like actually.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, David Spade's pretty good on SNL.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: What we haven't actually discussed is the David Spade subplot with his son.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, with his giant son.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: He's meant to be 13.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Is he really?
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: Yes, he's meant to be 13.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: So David Spade discovers that he has a son that he didn't know about with um some woman who we don't get her name, do we?
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: We just she's just called Hiccups McGee.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: Because he remembers that she had an attack of hiccups or something.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: And so she sends him to come visit for the last day of school.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: He makes him go to school, despite the fact that like he's never been what is the point?
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: He's ever been to this school.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: What school is allowing that?
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: It's such a forced-in plot because because the fact that Rob Schneider's not in this movie.
- 37:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: So he, yeah, the son turns up, he's massive, carries a switchblade.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: He's like David Spade on steroids, basically.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: He looks just like him, except he's huge.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: That did make me it did make me laugh when he arrives and and he's like, oh no.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: It's like, how do you I'm gonna need a I'm gonna need a blood test for this, and then he looks at him and he's like, actually, don't worry about it, it's my it's clearly him.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: And he he's rough around the edges, but as we find out, just wants to be loved.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: Just wants to be accepted by his dad.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: And then in the end, he hates his dad, but then like grows to love him.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: They end up going to the party at the end as Hall of Foot.
- 37:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: But never stand together.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're even in shot together.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: We're discussing this really randomly, but it doesn't make a difference.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Even if we're discussing in sequential audience.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: It literally does not matter because this the scenes have no purpose to like there's no again, there's no plot.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: So it's just random scenes that exist within and they've put they stuck them together, it feels like.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: So after after Kmart, which is another this is another funny scene, that um they they realise that they're late for the daughters, Adam Sandler's daughter's ballet recital.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: They come out of Kmart, they're talking to Shaq and the other police guy, and they're like, Oh shit, we're gonna be late.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: And they're like, Oh my god, it's that ballet recital.
- 38:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: So they get um the police are like, don't worry, we'll escort you there, turn on the what they're called, sirens, yeah, escort them to the school.
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: The auditorium is full.
- 38:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Adam Sandler's wife is like, really nice of you to bring uh all your friends and the police force, yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_03: Our daughter's ballet recital.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: Um, it's packed out because the ballet teacher is hot, yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: She's just like hot, blonde, decent European woman.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: And she does hip hop as she calls hip hop dance.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: And all the dads in the town have like packed out the auditorium.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're all just standing at the back.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Like primary school.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Just gorfier.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: With the police.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: The police have also got to gore up.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: Oh that was so funny.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: I really enjoyed that Samahayak line of nice of you to have brought all your friends and the police.
- 39:36unknown: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: And then Shaq's just got this big grin on his face.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: He's I'm trying to find out where I wrote down.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: That's where I wrote down what is the plot.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: That isn't one.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: Let it go.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Do you know how that is 30 minutes into the movie?
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: At that point, we're like, okay, what is it?
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like, what wait, is anything happening?
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Are they setting up to anything?
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And they weren't.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: They're just hanging out.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're just hanging out, having a nice time.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: And then you find out that Stone Cold Steve Austin is the b is uh Sandler's bully from childhood.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, yes.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: And he's married to or dating or whatever the hot ballet teacher.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: And yeah, everyone's scared of him as well because of like obviously it's him.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's he's huge, and then they have a showdown at the end, him and Adam Sandler, and he's actually really nice.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's like, I'll pretend I'm scared of you because I don't give a shit.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: I know I'm cool, I've got a hot wife.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, and then you'll get there's a weird bit of like war propaganda in that as well, where he's like, Oh, um, my son's serving in Afghanistan, and then he's like, Oh, thank you, like thank you, Sam, for his service.
- 41:09unknown: Okay.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Don't need to add that.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was really really sincerely as well.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, thank you for his service.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: But yeah, he's not it turns out Stone Cold Steve Austin turns nice in the end, and he lets Adam Sandler pretend to sort of beat him in a fight so that he looks cool in front of his kids and the town and remains the the hero.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: It's very it's very like nice of him, but not that's the only two scenes he's in the movies as well, isn't it?
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: Like yeah, or is it the one at the is it one?
- 41:42SPEAKER_03: No, it's two scenes because he he meets him at the he meets him at the ballet thing.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: Where and then he meets him again at the very end, where it all comes together.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: Well, something else that I really like that's funny when you start to think about it, is how they organise that party.
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: They decide to have the party about halfway through the day, and then by the evening they've got a band.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Well, the band just show up.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: It seems like he doesn't even know they're coming.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: They've somehow spread the word about the costume, everyone's got their costumes ready, and some people have gone all out, and they had like a couple of hours.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, everyone's like, Well, Chris Rock shows up in a prince costume, and it's like you either you had that to hand, or you like what is there's no way you would have that.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Chris Rock's been driving around in a school bus all day.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: How has he pulled that costume together?
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: And Tim Meadow shows up in the same costume.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: I another funny subplot that I've remembered that um Sal Mahayak's employee um dated um Adam Sanders' character in like primary school or something.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: They were like 10 or something, weren't they?
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: And she thinks that he's still in love with her.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: It's like they dated for a day or something.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Like he does not remember.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: I don't even know if he remembers who she is.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: I think they meet.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, they do, they meet briefly in the supermarket, and he has no idea what she's talking about, and they never speak again.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: But she's obsessed with him.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Also, another another former SNL cast member, Sherry O'Terry, playing that one.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Everyone is just like her husband.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: Whose name I want you to say first, because I can never remember how to pronounce it.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: Um, Steve Pushemi, yeah.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Buscemi, like.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Buscemi.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: No matter how many times I Google it, I forget.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Buscemi.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Buscemi, yeah.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Steve Pushemi.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: And uh again, way too good for this, Steve Buscemi.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: Like Well, Steve, he always does this.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: He's like his little bit part in Billy Madison, where he's that crazy guy who
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I do like him in Billy Madison, to be honest.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: I like him in Big Daddy as well.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I've seen Big Daddy.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: I will have done.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: It just doesn't stick in my mind.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Big Daddy is.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: I can picture the Big Daddy's one of my favourites, and it's like.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: I know it's not great, but it's one of my favourites.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: I have seen.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: I have, I have, I have, I have seen.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: Um I need to re-watch this.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: You might like it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: I think I will.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: It has a proper plot.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Then it's not my sort of thing.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: It has structure.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I want to laugh and leave.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: It has structure.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: I don't want to be challenged in any way.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: It's not a horror film.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: I bet you'll like Jack and Jill.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: And by I'll watch it, I think you need to watch Jack.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: I need there's got to be someone that likes Jack and Jill.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: And we need to find them.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: I hope it's you.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: It could quite well be me.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Let's find out.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: What's that got on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Has it got bad rating?
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: It's got a terrible rating.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it's like close to zero.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: 3.3 on IMDb.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: 3% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: 36 from the audience.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: 3%.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'll watch this.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: The only redeeming thing in that film when I stand by it is Al Pacino.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Al Pacino is in it.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, no, he's in it.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: He's in it.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: He plays himself.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: And I mean that's hilarious already, Alex.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: He plays himself, and there's there's I don't want to tell you any more about him other than that.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, please don't.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: Maybe I can watch it on the train.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you can watch it in the two hours.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: I bet it's like 80 minutes long or something.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: That's the other thing.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: I I was like, oh, surely this movie's gonna be really, really short.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, I'll just watch it when I get in at midnight.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: And then it was like a hundred minutes.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: I was in even that, I was just like, oh, really?
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: That's too long.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: And it's you can't figure out when it's going to end either.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Nothing wraps up.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: You're not like, oh, okay, I can see where this is going.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Cause like I I don't know, like there's the we got to the bit where I get since we've kind of gone through the movie anyway, might as well go through we might as well like just go through the rest of it.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: So after after the bully scene, there is the the joke of the ice cream shop where Colin Quinn is like fixing the machine and it just looks like there's poo coming out of him.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: They make him um sort of with his back to um the customers lean over trying to fix this um like soft served chocolate ice cream machine, and it's coming out behind his legs, looks like he's pooing himself.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and there's like fart noises.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: For some weird reason.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: And they all laugh.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: And it seems like there is a lot of sort of bullying in the film, actually.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: Like Adam Sandler's character is kind of a dick.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: He strolls around town bullying everyone.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: That's so true.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: But I think that's like very much that's something that's like weird about Adam Sandler.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Is like he's he he wants everyone to be kind all the time, but then he's always bullying people in the movies, and it just feels very odd, like at like at odds with each other, with like what he feels.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: It's just like, do you not realise this is what you're doing?
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Like all these people who he says are his friends, but he kind of seems to hate, like even his wife, he's horrible to his wife, like he makes fun of her accent.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot of at this at the very beginning, there's like a lot of like weird accent jokes about her and like her mum.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: It is strange.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: I don't know if that's part of the joke that he's just like he's got this like unbelievably hot wife and he's Ann of Sandler, and he's just like he doesn't appreciate her.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: There is a point where he says, like, oh um, I know I've got a hot wife, it's something that would only happen in the movies.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: And he does he does acknowledge that when they're so his son likes the hottest girl in school, and he's giving her tips, and he's like, No, we faders always get like the hottest women.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: Look at your mum.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, like I just what is what is that as well?
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: That doesn't get that doesn't that barely get wrapped up that plot.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: No, they kiss at the party, don't they?
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: But that's it.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's nothing else to do.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: There's two scenes, it's that yeah, it's like, oh I like her, they kiss at the end.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: He asks her out using Adam Sandler's method of where you have to compliment her, and he says something like you've got a nice smile, then you've got to go out with me tonight.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: And then the Yeah, tonight got me.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: Before you change your mind, essentially.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Would that ever work?
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: No, I'd be like, no, and I need to mentally prepare.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: I was like, I I'm not going out with someone immediately.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: Fortunately, they had that party, and she could have just gone to that party.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: But even at that party, I think she calls him by the wrong name and she's at his house.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about that.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: And he's like, he's like, I don't care.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: The sons weirdly look a lot like him as well, actually.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Like, not weirdly, but like it's a good it's good casting for those sons, actually.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's good casting.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Um, other than that, like that there's uh Kevin James's daughter, who they just make fun of the entire time, which is very strange as well.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I didn't really get where they were trying to go with her.
- 49:39SPEAKER_03: Was she meant to be like just a bit weird and they're all kind of embarrassed of her?
- 49:43unknown: Yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: Because there's that scene where Adam Sandler's teaching his kids um the football and he's practicing the kicks, and she's just randomly there cheerleading.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: And again, but again, do they learn?
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Like, isn't aren't they in the school?
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Why is Adam Sandler just got rocked up to school?
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: Why is that girl like that?
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: So many questions.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: And then also, like, what what does that have to do with anything in the anything else at all?
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Like, why is he teaching him to play football?
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, why does it?
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: That doesn't come from anywhere, does it?
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: He just turns up in school and then suddenly they're on the football field.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: He teaches and he's like, oh, you've got to become the kicker.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: And then he's really good and then immediately breaks his leg because Adam Sander falls on him, and then that's it.
- 50:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: That's the Yeah.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: The football team are watching, and they're like, everyone suddenly stops as he gets they he's going further and further away from their what what do they call it in American football?
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Goal, I guess.
- 50:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: They're moving further and further away from the goalposts.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: He keeps managing all these kicks, the coach has noticed, the team have noticed, and then he calls and breaks his legs, and it's like, well, that's over, guys, back to practice.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: And is there implication there that like it for him forever?
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: He'll never get that school back.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: I feel like, yeah.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: I think that's the implication.
- 50:56SPEAKER_03: Because that's horrible.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: He's like an amazing kicker that they just immediately like destroy his dream.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Look, not even his dream.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what like he doesn't he doesn't seem to care that much either.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: Well, Gassione only realized he had the school for literally five minutes.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: And then he got the rest of the day off school to go to hospital.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: That's so straight.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: Selma Hayak also was not at work.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: So she seems to own that shop.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: She took time out of her day to go to yoga.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Well, as as Sherio Terry says, nobody's gonna come in anyway.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: It's like a passion project, isn't it?
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: She's got a rich husband, so she owns it.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: That's exactly what it's a clothes shop.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Also, what is Adam Sanders' job?
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: I I feel like we must have got it in the first movie, but uh Yes, he was a s a screenwriter.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: He wrote movies, like Hollywood movies, yeah.
- 51:48SPEAKER_03: And he got really rich, so that's why he's got a huge mansion, even though all of them have pretty nice houses and their jobs are like David Spade is like part-time at the go-kart track.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: That's so true.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about that.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: Crick's Crick Chris Rock's cable guy, he's supporting a family of three.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: He doesn't he has one job all day, but this would just even go to.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's wearing his uniform all day.
- 52:15SPEAKER_03: I forgot.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: He's just even yeah, it's the job of like going to his going to his wife's mother-in-law, and then he just puts up a sign and then runs away.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he waits all day for her to get up to go to the toilet, and then he like quickly was like, oops, sorry, we missed you, and drives away.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Like the effort it put into like waiting outside her house.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: Go in.
- 52:36SPEAKER_03: I don't care what's doing.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: What's going on?
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: I I guess the joke is that he hates his mother-in-law, and that's it.
- 52:45SPEAKER_04: Classic.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Again, it's all like really like juvenile, like stuff that kids would find funny and like kids would expect.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but they're all better than this.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: They are all better than this.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Even as a fan of this movie, they are all better than this.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Every single one.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: So Chris Rock, while he I I was gonna say, like, while he wrote top five while he was uh yeah, while he was making this movie, he was in the in his trailer waiting and he was like, Because he had no lines to learn.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: He was just like Yeah, but top five is really good as well.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: And I've not seen top five.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: It's so you might find this interesting then it's about a comedian trying to make it as a serious actor.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: Mmm, that sounds good.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: Um top five.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: Oh, top googling top five is not specific enough.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Top five Chris Rock.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's um is it on Netflix?
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Well, this looks good.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: It's a good I like Chris Rock a lot.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: He wrote and directed it as well.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: So like and he's very good in it.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Um but it's got Chris um Kevin Hart in.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: It's got Adam Sandler in the scene.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: Does it?
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Right, that's it, that's all I need.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: It's got like a few people in it, it's got quite a lot of people in it, actually, like, but they're all like small cameos, but like they all have like purpose as well.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: I really like that.
- 54:14SPEAKER_03: I just really like that they're all friends and they all store in each other's films.
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: I find that really heartwarming.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: It is nice.
- 54:19SPEAKER_03: I want to be part of their gang.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: It's because you're set the thing is like once you get part of that, you're set for life.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 54:27SPEAKER_03: You do not have to worry about it.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: If you would be on SNL between like 90 and 96, yeah, you're good.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: Multi-millionaire, you're fine.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, be polite to him, you're fine.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: But then but then he also has like his weird, not weird, but like his other friends who are like smaller bit parts in things as well.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: Like Peter Dante, Alan Covert, they all like show up in this movie.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Uh the guy with the eyes.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: Uh I always forget his name.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Um Tim Meadow's wife is someone, isn't she?
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she was on SNL as well at the same time.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Was she?
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: Ellen Clegghorn.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: She was on at the same time.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: I because I've seen like sketches, I've definitely seen sketches with her and Chris Rockin.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Yes, I recognised her and I couldn't think who she was.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: Um but oh yeah, you're right.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: That when they when it's the three of them together, like the the the husband, wife, and and son, that is awful.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: When they're at the oh yeah, they're weird family.
- 55:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but they're categories of like what's the joke.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: That's the joke.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: I don't remember if that's some sort of like carryover from the first movie.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, is he in the first are they in the first movie?
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: It really needed context.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: I can't, but I can't remember if it's sort of like a just um a uh carry-on of some sort of joke, but gotta be.
- 56:05SPEAKER_03: I feel we're missing something.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: It all feels so yeah, I don't know.
- 56:11SPEAKER_03: Also And then the son asks out Chris Rock's daughter because they're the only black kids in school.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: And that's the only, and she says yes, yeah, because he's the only black guy in school, yeah.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Other than her brother, yeah.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Despite them having nothing in common and a really awkward date.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: And he and the guy the kid is very weird as well.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, and he likes freestyle raps while they're just sitting having their ice cream, and she's like, Oh, lovely.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she has nothing to yeah, she says nothing to him at all.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Like she's just like, oh yeah.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: She does she's like, Oh, I sing a little bit, and he's like, You don't you don't got it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: And then she sings at the end, and she's incredible.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: All the kids actually do turn out to be really talented.
- 57:01SPEAKER_03: Like it turns out she's an incredible singer, it turns out the kid that's bad at maths and really dumb at the start um is an incredible pianist.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're right, and then um the uh the other kid's the good kicker.
- 57:14SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, briefly.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: Briefly, yeah.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: Immediately ruined before the dream dies.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: I was just looking at like also Adam Sandler's wife and kids are in this movie.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: His real wife and kids.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: And who's his wife?
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: I know what I can picture his wife, but I can't be kidding.
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: She is in the she's in like the the fitness scene.
- 57:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, she is! She is!
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: I can't I don't know who his kids are in this movie.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Apparently, like um it says the wife and the kids have the same surname, so I'm assuming that they show up at some point later on, but I don't remember her coming in again.
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: I I don't remember the rest of the wife, his actual wife is gorgeous as well.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: To be fair.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: There were I I can't remember who said it.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: It might have been on that Sandler Pockards, but they were saying something about like if she's in the movie, that's when it's a bad one, and if she's not in the movie, that's when it's a good Sandler movie.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 58:16SPEAKER_03: I would have thought like No, just like some weird correlation.
- 58:20SPEAKER_03: It's not it's not like a thing, but like some weird correlation of like it just happens to have been Yeah, so it's not just like I mean this he's not just sort of saying to himself, this isn't going well, you might as well, you're not gonna make it any worse by rocking up.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: But also like No, that's not true.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: She's in Big Daddy.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: She's in 50 First Dates She's in 51st dates.
- 58:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, I forgot about 50 First Dates.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: That's a great Yeah, that's great.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: I really like 50 First Dates.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Despite like the weird like It's like there's like a little bit of creepiness to it, but it's like when you actually think about it.
- 59:02SPEAKER_03: There's actually a lot of creepiness about it.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: When you really think about it.
- 59:05SPEAKER_03: Oh, I hadn't.
- 59:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: You don't need to think that hard.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen it since I was a teenager.
- 59:11SPEAKER_03: I used to love it, but like looking back, yeah.
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: I don't think I've seen it since I was a teenager either.
- 59:16SPEAKER_03: Taking advantage of a poor woman with brain damage.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: And her waking up pregnant and being like, what the hell's going on?
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, yeah.
- 59:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is that's awful.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: He didn't write it or direct it.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: He is just a star.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: And what a star.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: And what a star.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Um so what else is there?
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we've talked about the oh yeah, we haven't there's like so there's like a naked jump scene that which the frat guys make the the four guys make the make the four guys do, basically, because like they break into a lake.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: The kids, yes, the kids have bunked off school because David Spade's terrifying son makes them, and they're like, of course, yep.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so they go to this like sort of like lake where you can jump off a big rock, and it's like the place where everyone in the town has always hung out.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_03: Um, the kids get there, there's like a college party going on there, yeah.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: Loads of like girls in bikinis drinking, so they're like really excited, join in, and then at the same time, the dads are going because they're bullying David Spade into jumping into the water because he's never done it or something.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_03: Kevin James has never done it.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sorry, Kevin James has never done it, yeah.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_03: And that's when he says, Um, I can't do it, I had that trauma that came up.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_03: But they they get there, and the college kids are like, This is our spot, and they have a really weird showdown where it flips in a row for no reason.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's his entire purpose in this movie, is just to do like backflips and like and start.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: I think it's really him doing it.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he can he can do all that stuff.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_03: Incredible.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he is really good, actually.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_03: His he's a really good actor, he plays that part really well.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think he's really funny in this.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_03: He's great, yeah.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it feels like he's actually self-aware as well enough to be like, this is ridiculous.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: I know I know this character, I know what this character is like, and like it's insane.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: I can play it.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Um they get bullied by the kids anyway, to all jump naked into the lake.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: And they all just agree to it, like they're they're like, fine, okay.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're terrified of these teenage boys.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Um they all jump in.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: They all jump in.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: Kevin James jumps on onto David Spade.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, onto his head.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: He's like, I was inside you.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_03: Then what happens?
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_03: Where do they go from that?
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: The tire rolling.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_03: Oh yes.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_03: One of the weirdest scene in the film, but one of the funniest.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_03: They I mean they go to just Is there a reason why they go there?
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: Kevin James owns it, doesn't he?
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_03: That the car repair shop.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're just like talk.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, because they slick get their tires slashed by David Space's son.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Slash the tyres.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, because he dropped him off at school because he said he had to go work in a soup kitchen and he found realized he wasn't in the soup kitchen because he saw him at the lake.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: So we slashed the tyres.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: So they yeah, they went to Kevin James's like auto repair shop.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: They're just messing around in a tyre.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_03: They get David Spade to like sit into this giant tyre, and then they're pushing it back and forth.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_03: Adam Sandler takes a call, and then he goes, the tire, the tyre just rolls through the towel, causing carnage.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then they'll they all want to do it after that as well.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: Even though like David Spade looks distraught and like thrown up everywhere.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: The the woman, none of them can stop the tire other than that woman he's been dating that um they all make fun of and call masculine.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: She manages to catch up with it and just shouts at him and then lets it go again.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's right, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: I forgot about that.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_01: I was just thinking about Shaq stopping it by like.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, no the end, Shaq.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: That's not the intro to Shaq, is it?
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: We already met Shaq at the um at Kmart.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_03: The ballet recital.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_03: Um Yeah, Shaq sees it speeding, does like a flip over the car bonnet.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: He's so big that he leaves like a huge dent in the car bonnet, and then he just stands there and this giant tire just bounces off him and falls.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: There's also a point in the movie that's really funny where he like gets out the car, but he just like just takes out the door to get out.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_03: My favourite scene in the whole film is one of the shack scenes where um at the party at the end where they had the big fight scene where the college kids come and attack them.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_03: He's just for some reason he's sitting in like the kid's Wendy house, and he's just got his arms out the window.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but how did he get into like his arms through each window?
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_03: He's like wearing it like a turtle shell, and then he just sits up and bursts out of it.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, he's also Tim Meadows' brother.
- 1:04:29unknown: Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: Because they both have the same haircut, which is like just nothing on top, and then loads around the side.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_03: He's saving Tim Meadows, so he just bursts out of this um playhouse.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: And throws someone over the house.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: They should have given him more.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: I want to spin-off with him.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_03: Oh same.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: I hope there's a grown-ups three.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: Um I don't think I hope there's a third, but I hope there's a spin-off.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_03: I want to see Shaq do more comedy.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_01: I want to see Shaq in more stuff.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_03: He was excellent.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: I've only seen him in this role.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_01: I've seen him in this and I've seen him in Kazam, and Kazam is not good.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, he's in Kazam, isn't he?
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, that is a bad film.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: That has no redeeming.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Uh then we've got the son being the kicker, and then it goes to the driver's ed scene, which Yes.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, so the kids when they were when the all the kids who'd bunked off school meet the college kids, they pretend to drink.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_03: They're scared to drink, they've never had a beer before.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_03: But they also want to hang around with all the cute girls in bikinis, so they pretend to be drunk.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that uh then later on it comes back where uh so he's he's uh Chris Rock's kid is like having his driver's test, and um Why isn't he at school again?
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_03: But he just goes straight from the lake.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_03: To his driver staff.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: And uh and Chris, I think Chris Rock drops him there.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he does, he does.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_03: Because the driver, instructor is Steve Bishemi.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_03: Did I say it right?
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: And uh while he's on his driving test, uh the frat guys pull up next to him and they're like, hey, it's you! Uh what are you doing?
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: I can't believe you're taking your test drunk and then they throw him a beer.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Steve Bishemi is like, what?
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, just he says Steve, like minus.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: Minus five points.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_03: Like that's not that's not a fail.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Because he passes the test.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_03: Because Steve Bishcemi ends up getting drunk and they have a great.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, because they because yeah, they go, this is where they go to the car wash, which is like the whole one of your favourite scenes, but it's it's very strange.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_03: They yeah, they go through this car wash, and it's just like one of those charity like high school cheerleaders, uh, wash your car and you give them money.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_03: Um, they go through that, and then at the same time, is it Kevin James and his wife?
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, are going through it.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_03: They so he has a really weird relationship with his mother that is sort of a subplot.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_03: And he lied to his wife to hang out with his mum and watch Days of Our Lives.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: Which is and then she finds out, she doesn't care, and then as a bonding experience, they go to this car wash so he can see scantily clad teenage girls.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: And then it's as a treat.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_01: And the girls say, Oh, there's actually one car ahead of you, so we're gonna go do that.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_01: And while they're doing that, they send over the the other lot who are uh the Lonely Islands group, plus like Taryn Killam and Will Forte In like short short and they're just like rubbing up against and that's the scene.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_03: And then we don't see them ever again.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: No, I don't even think we talk about it ever again.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_03: No, never again.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_03: Andy Sandberg doesn't even come to the party.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_03: No, nothing.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: That's that.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_03: And then what then what happens?
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_01: We find out that uh Sal Mahayek is pregnant.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_03: Oh shit, yes.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_03: So she had she says to um Adam Sandler, Would you like another kid?
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he's like, Hell no.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_03: Like our kids are finally old enough that we can focus on ourselves a bit.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_03: Why would we go through this again?
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_03: Reasonable because they're gonna be like in their 40s, aren't they?
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and the k the kids are all like teenagers now.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: Um but it turns out she's pregnant anyway.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's pregnant, and so yeah, that's that's a plot, I guess.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_01: That's yeah.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: That's something that happens.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: And then and then we have the then it's the 80s party, it's immediately that.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the 80s party that they prepared in two hours, but it is the best party of the year.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_03: Everyone's got really extravagant costume, they've got a whole stage setup, sound system for the band.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_03: They've catered this.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: And there's like they've all been out all day.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and there's there's even like a thing where Sandler has like a secret table.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_03: I think his wife says don't get drunk in front of the kids.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: Right, right, yeah.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: So he keeps so he pretends to drink it.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_01: And then uh yeah, he pretends to they they pretend to drink like juice or something, and then they just keep switching it in and out uh with beer.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: Um what is this?
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we find out the piano kid, and then there's a fight.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: Um There's a fight.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's college kids come for events.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: Well, first there's the fight with Steve Austin.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_03: Oh yes! Oh yeah, the showdown.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is just like where Steve Austin's like, oh beat me up, and then uh yeah, I'll do this.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: I'll pretend to yeah.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_03: Oh I think that's quite a cute scene.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_03: That is a nice showdown intention throughout the whole film where Adam Sanders' been like talking big, saying like I could take him now, now we're adults.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_03: Like, he absolutely couldn't.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_03: But um Stone Call Steve Austin lets him off.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: He pretends to be scared.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, and then just walks away with his ballet teacher wife, and they're like, Yeah, off we go.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_03: We have a fulfilling life.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's like, that's she was like, that's the hottest thing I've ever seen.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's quite nice.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_03: I like that it's couple.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're both very they seem like nice people now.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_03: Well he should have stuck around for the fight though, he could have really helped.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, he does stick around for the fight, actually.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, does he when the frat kids arrive?
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because he starts he makes like a whole pile of kids.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_03: Oh he does! Oh he does.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_03: I forgot about that.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_01: He's just standing there.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, it's really brutal.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_03: So the college kids come for a fight.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_03: Don't know how they found the house.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, I guess it's probably pretty loud and it's a small town.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_01: But and it's it's the big it's probably the biggest house in town.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's yeah, huge.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_03: But anyway, they find his home address.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_03: And it's just a huge fight, like a battle scene where they just charge each other.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_01: It's everyone in town versus the frat kids.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_03: And that's a surprising amount of frat kids.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_03: But obviously the heroes win, the townies win.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_03: And they've got Shaquille O'Neal on her side, they've got Steam Stone Call, Steve Austin.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_01: And they they all just fight, and we've like kind of described like what happens in the fight.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: It's just like, you know, like little things.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: But then to end it, they bring back the monkey from the start, and the the daughter gives it to Taylor Launter, who's like starts parading it around, and then the deer takes him out.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, and then that's the point where all the kids are like, oh shit, let's run.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_03: And then everyone cheers, the fight's been won, it's summer.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: That's that's the end well, that's not the end of the movie.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_03: There's one final scene where Oh, there is one final scene where they're going to bed.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're going to bed and they're talking about like having sex at that point, and that's and then he I guess the I guess the sort of there is sort of like a it's sort of like a coming-of-age story in a way that Adam Fandler is such an idiot, and then by the end of the end of the day, he's ready to be a dad.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: Ready to be more of a dad.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_03: More of a dad.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: He doesn't really redeem himself.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_03: No, he doesn't.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_03: There's some growth.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_03: There's some growth.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, in fact, he really doesn't because at the end he burps not.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he burps not.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: Which uh that's the that's the final thing.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the final thing, and then it and then the camera pulls back and reveals his giant house.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_01: And then I thought that one last I thought there'd be something.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: And then that's the that's the end.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: I thought there'll be something after that.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is literally it.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_03: He's talking to the bait.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_03: There's a really cute moment where he's sort of like talking to her stomach.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_03: And like accepting that he's ready to have the baby, and then immediately burp snarks, and and it pans out, and there's one more final shot of his huge house.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is probably his real house as well.
- 1:13:43unknown: Yeah.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: I bet he didn't even leave his real hometown, he just stayed there the entire time.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_01: Got paid to stay there.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_03: Got his friends to come hang out.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_03: That's what I like so much about it.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_03: I just feel like they're all having a great time being there.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_03: They're all hanging out together.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_03: Like, this is the kind of shit they would do if they weren't famous and they could just get away with it.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_03: This is how they would ideally live their life.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I just really enjoyed that.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_03: It's just, oh, it would get so one of my one of my comedy pet peeves is when people are like feel like they're too good for some sort of humour.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_03: When people are like, ugh, it's such like crowd-fleezing humour, it's so stupid, it's not clever.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: Like, sometimes you don't want clever.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I get that.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_03: Sometimes you just want grown-ups too.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_01: I I'm fully okay with like stupid humour.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_01: I just didn't think it worked.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: I didn't think this one worked.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: I want some kind of structure to it.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_03: You're with the majority.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: I want some kind of structure to it.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_03: People agree with you.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna do stupid humour, at least have at least have a point to it.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is that is true.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_03: And to be honest, you're in the majority.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_03: I think most people agree that it is a terrible film.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_03: And I am I'm not gonna say I'm in the wrong, but I'm the 8%.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: Have you listened to the have you heard about the podcast where it's like it's they're watching it for an entire year, like once a week?
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I started when I first watched it, and I was telling everyone about it.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_03: My friend was like, I've never seen it, but I've been listening to this podcast where they watch it and slowly go insane.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_03: And I didn't I didn't want to ruin it for myself, but I listened to like the first, I think, about four episodes, and they start off absolutely hating it.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_03: But then by the end, or by where I left off, which was like episode four, they were enjoying it, they were looking forward to bits coming.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe I should do that then.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll watch it once a week for a year now.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: Watch the listen to the podcast.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna listen again.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_03: Actually, I will listen to the podcast.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_03: I wonder if you need to get past the first episode where they hate it, because then they start liking it.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: I wonder how many times they go like hating it to liking it to hating it to liking it.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: I wonder how many how much that happens throughout the the entire year.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_03: I think there's really funny little sub little subtle funny bits that they start to pick up on that you don't notice in the first viewing.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_03: So they start to appreciate it more as an as a piece of art.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_03: But I'm sure like five times is probably the maximum that you need to watch it in a ever.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: So have have you grown to like it more as you watched it then?
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_01: The more you've watched it?
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_03: I liked it, I liked it the most the first time.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_03: Okay, and then I rewatched it for this, and I was like, there are bits of this that I don't want to defend.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_03: Like I don't want to defend like the transphobic comments.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_03: Um there is like there is a lot of like meanness, like a lot of the jokes are at someone's expense, which is kind of like a bit like childish, but overall, I just think it's a funny film.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_03: It's heartwarming, it's just like a nice time.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_03: It's a nice time.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, and maybe if I didn't watch it at midnight, right, like I I might have liked it more.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_03: And if I'd like if I'd gone to the cinema to see it, I would have been like, What have I just done?
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_03: But because I watched it with no expectations, I was like, oh.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_01: I guess that's it, you gotta watch it with no expectations.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_03: You do.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_03: And I bigged it up and ruined it for so many people.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_03: But hopefully people will listen to this and be like, you know what, that sounds like a good time, and it is a good time.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, go watch.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_01: I I do think you should watch it still.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_01: I think it's worth like I think you should watch it still.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_01: Because it's it's it's insane.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_01: I think it's just worth watching just to see like just just madness.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_03: I think it's the perfect mood for like a Sunday evening.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_03: Isn't it?
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: Again, you're yeah, you're writing that it's like a good movie to watch if you don't want to think about anything.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_03: If you just want to zone out something to play in the background that you aren't gonna pay give 100% attention to, and then you'll find yourself sucked in.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_03: You will.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_03: It's heartwarming.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, so let's let's move on to the final segment then, which is um we can't you kind of touched on it earlier, but like, uh, do you have a movie that's like well loved by critics and fans that you think is a bad movie?
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_03: Oh yes.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_03: So I wouldn't say I think it's a bad movie, I would say that I don't personally like them.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_03: Um like Hereditary is okay.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_03: Hereditary, I feel, has some like redeeming features.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_03: Hereditary is like, I can recognise it's a good film.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_03: It's got like sort of a family drama element to it as well as like the horror.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_03: Midsummer, I almost walked out of the cinema and I have never done that before.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_03: I was it's boring.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: It's long, but it's a long moment.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_03: It is I went to see it on my own as well.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_03: Oh, and I was just sitting there like, what have I done?
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: Did you did you find it scary at least?
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_03: I thought there were bits of it that were shocking.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_03: Like obviously the bits where um I mean I'm gonna spoil the film, yeah, but I feel like if you're gonna see it, you'd have seen it by now.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, where those people jump off the yeah, where they make them sacrifice themselves.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_02: It's brutal.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_03: And I think there's maybe something in the fact that it is so boring in between the shocking bits that it makes it catches you off guard because you're so sort of like, oh god, what's happening now?
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_03: Oh my god!
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_01: I I like the movie, I get why there are a lot of people that don't I know a lot of people that don't like it, and I get that hate actually around it because yeah, it's quite uh it's quite gruesome, and I I don't and it's long and like I get people finding it boring.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_03: I'd be interested to know people who don't like it, what they don't like about it.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_03: People who don't like horror stuff in general.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_01: People have said it's boring, and people have like complained about like the way they portray her as well.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_01: And and like the w especially the ending with her.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_01: But I think that's kind of like the purpose of it is to show like what she kind of what the what the the cultish behaviour can get you into, like can can leap down to.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, but she just sort of like went along with it.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_03: She had no agency.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: She just wants to find she wants to fight she's she's lost her family, she wants to find that sense of like belonging again, and she'd lost she'd lost her boyfriend as well, essentially.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_03: By choice, but yeah.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I mean He was a dick anyway.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_01: I mean at the start she's losing her boyfriend, and then she's like trying to save it in the relationship, but like it's obviously the end of the relationship.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_01: Um I get I yeah I don't know.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_03: I just yeah, I think for me it was just a the pace.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_03: There was just bits where it was too I don't really like slow-paced films, I need like action all the time, which is definitely my ADHD.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_03: I can't like and I zone out so easily.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_01: That's why grown-ups too is perfect then because it has like you don't need to have like every scene is a new thing.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_01: It's something new.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_03: You don't need to be paying attention.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_01: Every scene's something it has its own purpose, and then the next scene is something else completely, and it has it doesn't you don't need to remember the last scene.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_03: If you have yeah, if you zone out for five minutes, if you zone out for 30 minutes, you haven't missed it.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_03: You can still pick it up.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_03: Whereas midsummer is three hours of like you need to focus because it's one long build up to yeah, and because I was on my own and I was in a cinema, like I couldn't get my phone out or anything, I couldn't like chat to the person next to me.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_03: I was I was genuinely like I kind of want to know how this ends, but also I also want to leave.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_03: And I genuinely considered walking out, and I don't think I've walked out of I've never walked out of anything in the cinema, I don't think.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_01: I felt trapped.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it makes sense.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_01: I yeah, did you know it was that long going in?
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_03: No, I was just like, I think I'd seen the trailers and I was like, oh, this looks spooky and like my kind of thing.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_03: And then it's Ari Aster, isn't it?
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_03: Same person who, uh same person as Hereditary, which I thought was okay.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_01: I've never seen Hereditary.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_03: It's better.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_03: It's not like it was so hyped.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think it was just so hyped because it was a horror film and a good film, which is rare.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_03: But Hereditary is much better than Midsummer.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_03: I've watched Hereditary a few times.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_03: It looks really good.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_01: I've just never got around to it.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_03: It is good, and it has some like shocking moments.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna watch it because I yeah, I've been meaning to watch it for a while.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_03: You should.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_03: It's yeah, it's better than Midsummer.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_03: If you didn't like Midsummer, don't be put off.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_03: It's it's a bella film.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_01: I do, I I really like Midsummer as well.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, you did?
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, in that case, you'll like it.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_03: It's much better.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_03: It's shorter as well.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_01: So it's not three hours like Midsummer.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_03: I can't believe it was that fucking long.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_03: I watched it like Yeah, I've only seen it once and I'm never watching it again.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_01: I watched it when they put it on Prime, and I was just like, I put it on and I was like, oh no, this is gonna be so long.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_01: How am I gonna focus on it?
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_01: I actually got I I really got into it.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_03: Maybe I need to give it another go.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_03: Maybe I've judged it too harsh.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_01: No, I think you're I think what you've said about it are like fair criticisms of it though.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just don't like slow films, I don't like scenes where nothing happens.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_03: Like, I really struggle with films like those ones like the tarot Is it Hateful Eight?
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, I hate I did I really didn't like that.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_03: Good! I'm glad.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_03: Everyone loves it, and like it was so boring.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_01: I I don't I haven't liked his films since um I think the last one that I liked of his was uh Inglorious Bastards, and then since then I haven't liked any of his films.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_03: I've only seen two of them, and I didn't like either of them.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_03: Which is the other one.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_03: Like I'm not really a film, I'm not really a film person, which is why I haven't like watched them.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_03: That and the latest one, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which was also very boring.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_01: I that was my that was probably his worst for me.
- 1:24:09unknown: Yeah.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_01: And that I found again, I found that really boring.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_03: It was boring.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_03: My understanding of Tarantino films is that they're quite like shocking and lots like happens, but like the only one, the only two that I've seen have been the really boring ones.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_01: His his older ones are like much more interesting.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so much more.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_03: I saw once upon a time in Hollywood in the cinema, and me and my friend like went out for a while to go and get like snacks and go to the bathroom, came back, and it was still the same scene we left on.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'd miss nothing.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel like for like 90% of that movie, nothing happens.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_03: And at the end, I just thought like it was a bit distasteful.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's only like a stupid criticism for me.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_01: But it was no, it was it was distasteful.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_03: It's a real story, it was someone's real murder, and they just kind of like changed the narrative.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I really didn't like it at all.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_01: I I'm so surprised so many people love that movie, actually.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_03: That's gonna they do.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_03: It's ri it's really popular.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_03: Like a lot, even like I thought maybe it's just a guy film, but even like girls who I've spoken to about it have loved it.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_01: I seems it seems to be most people like it, and I I just I don't think it's gonna hold up.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_01: I think people are gonna do that.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_01: It's not one for the I think people are gonna go, oh actually that was a bad film after some time.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's really not one for the Hall of Fame, is it?
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_03: Like if someone said to you, what do you like about it, what could you say?
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_01: I don't like I didn't like anything about it.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_01: I like really hated everything.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_01: I hated the Bruce Lee stuff, I thought that was really distasteful.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was it was and him doubling down on it after his after Bruce Lee's daughter complained about it was like even worse.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I forgot about that that happens, yeah.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_03: Um Margot Robbie, she's the good thing about that film.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_03: I guess she's an angel.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_01: I I really like Margot Robbie, but like I I guess she's the good thing about it.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_03: She's just a breath of fresh air.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_03: Every time she came on the screen, I was like, oh Margot Robbie.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_03: Like when she gets to see herself in the cinema and she's really excited.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:22SPEAKER_01: She has no lines in the movie because well, she barely speaks.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, she doesn't, does she?
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, I remember that at the time being a thing that everyone was like, oh, you've got a main female character.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_03: And don't give her words.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you show her feet a lot.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh yeah, in a cinema.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we could talk about this all day.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_01: Let's let's leave it.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_03: Fortunately, it's probably really high rated.
- 1:26:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's very highly rated, yeah.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_01: It's like I think it's up in the 90s.
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_03: Um 85 on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_03: 70 audience, 85 critics.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_03: That's too high.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_03: These people gave um grown-ups 2 8%.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_01: I would rather watch Grown Ups 2.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_01: I would actually rather watch Grown Ups 2 again than watch than watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood again.
- 1:27:18SPEAKER_01: Genuinely.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_03: Same.
- 1:27:22SPEAKER_03: I'd pay to go see Grown Ups 2 in the cinema.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_03: Oh no, I wouldn't I wouldn't go that far.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't go that far.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_01: I would not pay you to watch this movie.
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_03: Is this been the least structured episode of this podcast you've ever done?
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_01: No, I I don't know.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_03: It's very hard to give it structure when the film itself doesn't have any structure.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_01: It's there's yeah, there's no structure to this, so like, yeah, what can we do?
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:49SPEAKER_01: But anyway, let okay.
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna let you go because you've got like so much to do today, but yeah, thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_03: I had a really nice time, and I I hope we make people watch grown ups too.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you're listening, go and watch it.
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_01: Ken, you're probably listening, so let's go and watch this.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_01: Ken check.
- 1:28:05SPEAKER_03: Ken, I hope you've watched it by now.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_03: Watch it and let me know.
- 1:28:10SPEAKER_03: Please let us both know.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you if you're listening to this, go let us know if you want anyone if you're listening to this.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_01: Let us know if you've gone and watched this afterwards.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_03: Whether you like it or not, I want your feedback.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_01: Um so how can we find you online?
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_01: If people want to tweet you about this, how can we find you online?
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_03: Uh she's gone, yeah.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_03: I'm she's gone Stella, all one word.
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_03: Um, it means nothing before anyone asks me.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_01: Forever the most confusing uh username.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_03: It makes people call me Stella, which is really annoying.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_01: In my head, for the longest time, I've called you Stella, and I know your name is Lucy.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_03: I know, it really makes people call me Stella.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_03: People who I speak to and know my name is Lucy.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_03: Think like maybe Stella's her nickname.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_03: But the story behind it was when we were at uni and we first set up our Twitter accounts, we couldn't think of usernames.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_03: So me and my housemates just had like a magazine, like it was like Grazia or something, and we just flicked through it and we were like, whatever page we stop on, the name of that article will use as our Twitter name.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_03: Mine was She's Gone Stella.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_03: It was something about Stella McCartney, I think.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_03: So I'm she's gone stellar on everything on Twitter and Instagram.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_03: I prefer Twitter.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_03: So if you want to follow me on something I'm more active on, Twitter is Twitter is best for you.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_01: And like, do you have anything you want to promote at the moment?
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_01: Have you got any like shows coming up?
- 1:29:36SPEAKER_03: I don't really.
- 1:29:37SPEAKER_03: I've got I've got two like for the end of this month, but I'm trying to just like with my new job, I'm slowing it down a bit.
- 1:29:44SPEAKER_03: And then I'm gonna just then I'm gonna get back into it before Christmas, I think.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_03: When all the competition stuff starts opening, I need to get my shit together.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, how long have you been doing it by the way?
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_01: Uh stand up.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_03: Not long at all.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_03: So since um the beginning of summer, so like May.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I think I asked you about this already.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_03: Not long at all.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_03: But it's going, I'm enjoying it, it's going well.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_03: I've always liked writing funny things, but yeah.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_03: It's fun.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's awesome.
- 1:30:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I look forward to actually seeing you on stage.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'll invite you when I actually start doing it.
- 1:30:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:30:21SPEAKER_01: I want to come along.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cool.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, dude, do well.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_01: Uh it's been really fascinating to like learn of to see growing up to and I'm so glad I got to share this experience with you.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_01: And for trying to get me to come around on it as well.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_01: Trying to try to bring in a new fan.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_03: Did it work?
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_01: No, sorry, it didn't work.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_03: Fine.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_03: I think you need to keep going.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_03: I think you need to give it another view.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_01: I'll watch it 52 times.
- 1:30:50SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, please do.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_03: In a row.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much, Lucy.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna watch Jack and Jill.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_01: Yes, watch Jack and Jill.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_02: Oh well.
- 1:31:01SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_02: Bye.
- 1:31:05SPEAKER_01: That's the end of the podcast.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_01: If you enjoyed it, please leave us a review and rate us a liking so we can end up making more episodes.
