- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people just don't know these days what the strategy is.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: And to know that there's so much that they do, that's probably already at that next level in the first place.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guess will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, be a babe.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get into it because this episode is great.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is for those of you who are like, oh my god, I don't love my job, but I don't want to be working for myself or shit, I'm out of a job and I need help.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: We have like the resume queen, like I just like I literally call her Adela, like she is so great.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: I learned so much.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even need a resume right now or probably hopefully ever I love what I do.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: I know many of you do and will matter what your role is in this world, there are tips for you here.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care if you love where you're at.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to want to listen to these tips right them down.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: They're so, so tangible, tactile, like things you can actually do and check off and feel good about yourself.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: So here is Megan Applegate.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, be it babe.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really excited.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: We haven't had a topic like this in a long time and it's definitely time to be talking about this topic and we have the best guess I could even think about because I was doing a lot of research on this one and I'm really excited because make an applicator's here and she is, well, I'm a lot of her tell you everything that she does so making what do you rock at.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so thank you for having me Leslie.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very excited to be here and I
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm one of those people that was a 20 year veteran in the hospitality industry and, you know, thought I loved what I did for so long until I realized that I didn't.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: And when that happened, you know, I didn't really know.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: And next, I had something fall in my lap.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: And now I've turned into a recruiter, a resume writer, a career coach, and entrepreneur in the last seven years.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: So a huge pivot,
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, I love what I do now.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's completely different.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a beast in both ways, right?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Good and bad.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: If there is a good or I bad, I don't know if there always is, but I love what I do.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, I agree.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like nothing's ever as good or as bad as we think it's going to be, but there's always the good and the bad.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: But hold on 20 years in hospitality.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, I don't even have one person last in hospitality.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's a long time to deal with the people.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: it is.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: Was it like, did you have to, like, did you have to, like, remind yourself you're not a hospitality more?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, how did you, you know what I mean?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's hard to make a big shift to shift careers.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say yes and no, only because part of what?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: turned into a different career involved hospitality.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it made it a little bit easier when I was approached with the opportunity to get into the first business that I own and do and then from there it came into a second one that that I own on my own now.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: So with that being said, I still actually love hospitality.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: I still love the people.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: But I know it so well, but now I get to recruit in it.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: and help people find jobs in it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: So it's almost like just taking what I already knew and learning a whole new sector of it, which is going to like a deeper level on that side.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: So instead of like being, I guess like B to C, like you're working with the people and the hospitality you're working, now you're working more at the people who are going to work with the people.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: On the recruiting side, it's both.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's finding the clients that need us to help them,
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: with the head hunting, finding these top talented professionals and then also being the advocate and that career agent for the candidates and understanding both sides of what that looks like which, you know, a lot of people are like they only know one side and they don't know both and so.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: it's almost like an advantage to understand how to help people navigate that knowledge that you otherwise have right because the the higher is like we need these people who can do these things.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then the people are like, how come no one's looking at my resume?
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: How can people don't see the greatness that I have?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: And really you're like, you're kind of a mediator slash negotiators.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like, um, Dula.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's it's been an interesting adventure.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's I'm seven years in deep with this change and it's proven to
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: move me in all kinds of different directions, which I'm excited to get into.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would love to get that.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: I guess before we dive into some stuff, I do want to chat about, like, some of yours is a good, it's like a long time to have it.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's like to look back at who you were and like how that was.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Where are there?
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: When you were leaving hospitality and kind of coming into this or maybe fell into it, were there things that you had to work on with yourself to kind of step into this, I know I'm not working for this company.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm working for myself.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: How did you help yourself change that mentality?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's all kinds of emotions.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's so many we could talk about, right?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's very sticky.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: You're excited, but scared, but you know at some point
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: understanding that you just have to keep trying new things to see what will work and to trust your expertise and what you're learning to do.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was a big lesson for me.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: as an entrepreneur, I just had this vibe of like, now I get to be successful as I want to be, right?
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to make so much money in all these things and because when you're working for somebody, there's a cap on you, right?
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so when you kind of change into that mode of, I'm so passionate about what I do and my expertise, you know, when you don't see that happen overnight, it can be a little daunting, you know, to be like,
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: is it me and my doing something wrong can I not trust myself do people am I not I mean there's so many things because if you've never owned a business how do you know right so I think there's a lot of that that went into kind of setting the the ground rules of understanding
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: You, you just have to take every day, every day, every day and learn and learn and learn and you will pivot and pivot and pivot and pivot and pivot and I still do to this day, think, can I do this differently should I do this differently, I think I'm on my like third version of, you know, the newest business I have just because I keep learning.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: I understand that a lot and I think like I love that you share that like when you work at a place you get to leave with the at the shift or the day with your salad out and at person like going okay I did the things I was supposed to do on this day or behind on two things okay but when you are working for yourself you really have to define what done is and what success is because otherwise it can feel like
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's too easy to go with vibes.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: I've been working for myself for so long.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I still have to remind myself like to not go off vibes.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: My husband's like, oh my god, things weren't going really well right now.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, let's look at the data because vibes.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: No, we're not doing vibes right now.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Go with the data.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's always better.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so one of the reasons I want to have you on is because like, I do feel like right now there's a lot of uncertainty when it comes to finding work.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: So if people have a job, they're like staying, whether they like it or not, which always bothers me because we shouldn't, we shouldn't let employers treat you spadly or being a place.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's like not right for us.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: If it's not right for us, but there's a lot of uncertainty and then there's people who are wanting to kind of switch careers and look into something else and like this is be tell you see it.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of wanted to pick your brain and talk a little about like,
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: what how can people who are seeking out work, highlight themselves, or what should they be thinking about?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, that's 17 questions Megan.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: You are the expert here.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't had a thought of as a man so long.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: This is.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, neither have a lot of the clients I do work with.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Truthfully, you know, things have changed and shifted so much lately with
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: in what's looking for a new job is and what that strategy is right.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: So it used to be like if you worked at longevity, you had a great, you know, you had great companies on your resume and you had a few connections, then it would be super simple.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: And now people come to me and they're like the game is changed.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: what do I do right because it is especially with AI and all of the platforms that are involved and all this weaving in of you can't just rely on what you've done in the past.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's right now we're in a huge employee market where it's very competitive to look for a job.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: People are being flooded with you make it so easy to apply to jobs these days.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, oh, like, it's heard as ad, where you can almost, like, pay for this extra thing, so you're the first person to, like, you're on the top of the pile.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you can, like, you remember how like you can pay, if you used to be able to pay to be an A on Southwest Airlines?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: You can, like, pay to your resume to be the top of the pile on those online things.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh, my God.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is just like, that's, like, that's, like, only the people who have the extra money can do that.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, honestly, and I don't even know that if I believe that.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: just really knowing what I know about how that works, right?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's it's all about understanding that you have to be a problem solver and you have to realize that if you can paint the picture, it's like your resume is a sales document, right?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like we we are so entuned as humans,
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: to not understand what we are actually really good at and no one seems to understand that they need to keep track of all of these wins.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: You get in a job and you just get so focused on what you're doing in one lane that we're never thinking
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: two more steps or two more years down the road to be like, am I documenting?
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Do I know what I want to do next?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Am I continually networking with people?
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: What am I doing right now that is above whatever other person is doing it?
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not constantly thinking about that and understanding that you're creating your own brand,
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like you just get stuck in the hole and then five years later, things have changed and you're like, oh my god, what am I doing?
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: And it's very scary.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you're thinking, well, I have all this experience.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I meet this job description that's online, but yet no one's calling me.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where I have realized, you know, in my experience, there's so many nuances around, you know, getting through the ATS system, getting by the recruiter.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: who looks at your resume for 10 seconds, finally getting to the hiring manager and then kind of convince them in that one third of your resume of why they should call you.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many different things.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I had a magic bullet just to say do this one thing and you'll be fine.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: But unfortunately, it's a strategy.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's truly a game these days.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: But it's so if, you know what, it's your, like, so on the be a pot every Friday, we like celebrate wins.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're really important.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: Most people won't send a win in until they've completed something.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, a win is like, you know, you got up today.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes that's a win.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: But like, there's like, but it's, I love you highlight.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, are you documenting like things that you're doing or things that you've learned?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: Because I have found since I don't have to build a resume, one of the things I have to do is submit to get CECs for things that I train people on.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I have to show like that I've had education from these places or like to teach this workshop, when did I learn that thing?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: And if we're not taking time, just like a little document, like just somebody note like an achievement or a compliment you got at work, I love this because then with with this help of AI, you can really put your wins together in a nice concise little paragraph.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could do that.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're not documenting, it's really hard to remember you did two years ago, especially when you're not
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's not just always about what you do individually.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's about looking at what you're doing as a team, right?
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And people think, well, I can't take credit for that.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, why not?
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, they just get very like down in the weeds of what should be on a resume.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it becomes this long laundry list of things that are not relevant.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that is one of the biggest things is before you can build that, you have to know where you're going.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, who is your audience?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you talking to?
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so then you have to, too.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: Do we have to change our resume for every single application?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: You don't.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: You don't.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then honestly, a lot of people to have that in their head that they have to.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's definitely things you can tweak within the resume, right?
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Just key words in general.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: If it that fits more specifically to one thing versus another,
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: in your industry, right?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: If it's this job versus this job, but no, you shouldn't have to change it every time.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: You just, you need to have a point of view.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: You need to be somebody that solves problems and you need to know who your audience is and you need to know where you're going.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't know, then again,
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: your narrative of what problems are why you even need to accept it to solve.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right?
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I love this because well, this episode's coming out after like my girlfriend and I chatted about like exiting a job either on your terms or your own terms, right?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so we're really good, like, chat about that.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: And this is, like, such a even greater follow-up because, like, ideally, you're thinking about this before it's not on your terms.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, ideally, you're doing this while you have something else, because there's a lot more confidence while you're getting paid to go look for something else, right?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, always say it's easier to get another job while you have a job.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess like I worry about like some of my people who like have that fake impossous syndrome, I'm going to call it fake because they are successful.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: They have done amazing things, right?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: And for whatever reason, they either lost the job that they were in or their life change and they had to take a pause and work and now they're coming back into it.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: And as you said, like the game has changed.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's like when people realize the dating game has changed and like,
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Now the resume game has changed and like how do we what is there a pep talk to get people how do they know where they're going how do we how do we like get them off the ground and go you are good like let's pull out these wins like are there things that they can do.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I mean I think that just understanding you know I always help people when I work with them I'm like go out on the internet and find like.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first of all, before you even do that, what excite you, what, you know, like, let's just dive down a little bit further into like, this is what you do, but do you love every single part of this or do we want to focus on like what you truly.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: like go and then you just succeed with right what what motivates you what are your strengths well finding that is number one especially if you're thinking about pivoting so you know because I think there's nothing wrong I mean I did it and yes it was from
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: 20-year career into entrepreneurship, but I work with a lot of people that will pivot into a completely different industry.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: When we work on that, we start with that like, what makes you tick?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: What would you love to do every day and get up and get them excited about that?
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then once you kind of understand that you can actually go out and start to truly find those jobs.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: Find where those jobs are.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Look at those job descriptions and map what you are really good at with what it's saying.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that will a lot of times pull people out to be like, Oh, okay.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: So like I do have a lot more.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: wins and what it takes to get a job.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: I also say, find a colleague, find an old colleague, somebody that can remind you how great you are.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because, like you mentioned, the imposter syndrome, that is a huge, not mirror, but it's a wall.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: That people bump into that all the time where I get comments about a resume that I redo for someone and they're like, Megan, are you sure this is even me?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like an imposter here.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is, you, you just don't understand that it's okay.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one time that it's okay to vibe on yourself.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, we're just, yeah.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and sometimes we don't see it because we're in it all the time.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're in the wind.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: right of our own everyday life and therefore because we live that we don't see ourselves as an expert because we just assume everyone has the same kind of knowledge that we do, right?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I always hope people, you know, find what's important, what you love, find you know, somebody, most people have a
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Asim for coffee.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Asim just to be like, hey, can you help me like kind of energize and re-remember all that I did that was amazing.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: Especially if you haven't written it down.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: I love this because one, everybody wants to be helpful.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like people just want to be helpful.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: And you're not asking them for a job.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: You're actually asking them like, hey, can we just go over that time?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: We did some things like I'm struggling here.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: People want to be your cheerleader and you're going to give them this opportunity.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that this is a brilliant, I remember.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: years ago, my husband, I were trying to apply for a global entry card.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: And they wanted your last like 10 years of addresses.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, when your apartment living, like, that could be 10 addresses.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: And remember Brad asking one of his roommates, hey, do we want our address here?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: And the guy's like, I don't know, check eBay.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, oh, hold on.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's this place.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's holding all these addresses that I had things shipped to, but like, sometimes I just have to ask someone, yeah, the thing is they're not in it.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: They're not stuck.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: in your everyday life that you just live in and assume that everyone else knows what that looks like.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, do you think it's in like is the internal barrier that people like it's stuck on?
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: Is it the imposter syndrome?
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: Is it not believing in themselves?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like what is kind of like what's went on inside people that make some realize that like or make something that they're not able to to do this to like put themselves out there and and get a job that they deserve.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's partly that, but I don't think it's fully that.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people just don't know these days.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: what the strategy is and to know that there's so much that they do that's probably already at that next level in the first place.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I'm always like, go find some job descriptions.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a senior whatever and you want to be a director, go find what that looks like and then find where you have correlations to it because I think that
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: It helps kind of boost that confidence to be like, oh, yeah, you know, I can do that or you kind of understand where your shortcomings are and you can work on, okay?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I need more, you know, leadership experience or what have you if I want to get to where you're doing, where you're going.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: But if we just kind of stay,
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're comfortable, right?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: We always talk about like we're comfortable, but what does that equal?
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: It equals stagnant in the same.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: So getting on comfortable is where we need to be.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, also like, that's so funny that you said I would never thought like, that's like a total beat.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: Tell you see it like, well, look at the job that you'd want to have.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: What are they asking that that person has?
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then like you can recognize where you have it
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: No, I, you know, there's that statistic that like, women won't apply unless they're 10 out of 10 and like men will apply it to like a four out of 10 or whatever it is.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: But it's like, I'm in, but I love that because you can really see and that will help you highlight, like, oh, hold on, it might even jog your memory of like the things that you've done, you know, and really pull it up there.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a brilliant, a brilliant strategy that I would never have thought about because it's like, oh, this is a job that I've done.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a job that I'm ready for,
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: are thinking they have to get promoted before they can go somewhere else to get the job that they want, but you might be able to step into a role at a level that you want to be at, because they actually need what you are to been doing.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's a huge part of the recruiting side that I've learned too is that
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you want to be recruited for a promotion and not only what you're doing taking you from one job to another that's the same, you have to have this the right signal right if you kind of think about it that way from a recruiting not necessarily just a resume where you're actually sending resumes out and that kind of thing, but there's so many things that we can do from like, you know, promoting your own brand and part of that, especially with LinkedIn is
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, again, we go back to that audience.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you trying to signal?
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Are you signaling to anybody?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Are you even visible?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: Can you get recruited?
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can, it does it point to where you wanna go next or are you stuck in just the laundry list of what you've done?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Is it forward thinking to that next rule?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Or are you just in?
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: the past.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I do.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: Can we talk a little?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: Can we go this route?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: Cause like yeah, LinkedIn is like a thing.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, I work for myself.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, I'm not on LinkedIn.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: And Edwin's like, Leslie got it beyond LinkedIn because like all those women there would do your Pilates classes online because they're busy and amazing and I'm like, I don't even know how to like break through on LinkedIn because I don't.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: I can't say what it is, but if I did, you be like, everyone would be like, how did she get that job?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's because she turned her light on on her LinkedIn.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: I guess, like, you know, like you could turn the light on.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: but like, but she had it pointing towards what she wanted, not what she was at, as she got it.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like someone was like, hey, you should apply for it, and then she fucking got it.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: But just as you say, I was like, that's how it works.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: I had no idea.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: I was not like 1,000 people were applying for that job, you know, when they might have been.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, but it's true.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like honestly, there's so many people that like have a profile on LinkedIn and they might have a picture and they might have the basics and like that is it.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, why even bother truthfully?
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: I guess in like, you know, and it's funny that you say that because I'm like the opposite.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: I am very, very strong on LinkedIn for because of what I do, but yet, you know, Instagram, I'm like, oh my god, what am I doing?
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, Megan, I really have showed just a learn how to be on LinkedIn because that might be the safest.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: why it is like non-stressful place to be.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: What I did is to social media.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: I will agree with that.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I do see that sometimes people if you're a little bit controversial of what you say, you know, in advice, some people will get on there.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: But honestly, those are the times where it just goes, oh my god, all of a sudden I've got, you know, seven, somebody 15,000 people just saw this because of this one jerk.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty sure, you know, Instagram could do the same thing, but yeah, LinkedIn is huge and people don't always see that.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know it's social media and not everyone loves it, especially the older generation, which a lot of times are the people that I work with that.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: get to the point I've been in, you know, my job for so long and I'm just struggling to even get an interview and what's going on.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so I work a lot with that age group and they're like, but I don't know how to be unlinked, I don't know how to be online.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, honestly, you don't have to be active all the time.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: You just have to have a profile that signals the right thing that's completely optimized.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, have a background image that says your name and your contact information, you know, have a headline that says what you want just teaching people how to understand what as a recruiter I'm looking for and what pops up when I'm looking and so you can just do that you don't have to.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: be active that much because the the the optimization will do the work for you because we'll find you yeah as long as it doesn't like you've been you know distant for seven years like there's like it's been updated and you know it's not as much as like I have to post an Instagram almost daily if I want to like stay relevant.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you have to do that only you don't get a good job.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, you don't because, again, there's one side that's a word that we're heard or piece of it that just tells us who you are, you know, maybe even just sharing things once in a while.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: You don't even have to have your own, you know, feed that says a lot if if you.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to become a little bit more of an, you know, executive level, I would say posting some just so that you could be a thought leader specifically your expertise will help you even more, because it just shows you have a voice, a perspective and your active, because a lot of times when I find somebody they might look good, but yet I then I realize after
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, talking to them that it's from four or five years ago and they haven't touched it since and I'm not even updated right I'm just like yeah yeah yeah yeah you don't want to waste your time either.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so you know people are there's a lot of worry that like AIs gonna take all of our jobs and.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure at some point it probably well, but is that something people have to you worried about or is again just like figuring out like what is they want to be doing and then selling themselves above like or is that they have to understand how to use it like what is what is the working job seeking market right now?
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, need misunderstanding about that that can that if they just.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: kind of understood it better that they would be able to be hireable or have the dream job that they're still looking for, because I do think people might be worried that their dream job is gone.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's that's totally valid.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not agree with you.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say that won't happen in some cases.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see that happening, you know, to an extreme where we're all going to all of a sudden be unemployed.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: For me and what I try and help my clients with is understanding, hey, I have to treat it as your friend.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: You cannot think about it as a negative, because it's just is what it is, right?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's here to stay, and if we just push against it, we are just pushing ourselves further down the line of, you know, I can't, I will, it's terrible.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have to look at it like,
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: What do you need to do to maybe upskill so that you give yourself more variety of what you can do?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: in your lane right and really you might have to think about what does that look like.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I'm not a prepper.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: Personally, that's like a lot from even to like think about, but in this realm, in in job searching and in the strategy and just not even just when you're out of the job, but in general, if we look at the whole of like what should be be doing,
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: in our world of prayer advancement, even if we have a job, as we have to always be thinking about where does my path lead next?
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Who can I connect with?
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Where can I build my brand?
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: Where can I be an expert?
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Where can I upscale the skills or something I want to do so that you're always
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: The option for multiple option ultimately is the goal because when we don't and all of a sudden, shit happens and you get laid off and you're just like, oh, hell, what am I doing?
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you would have put yourself in a position to be ready for that, even if it was in a year from now for people to find you, to have your resume updated, to be present on LinkedIn, to be networking,
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: get in front of having some of those skills, then your life will be so much easier.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: I love I agree.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like it's not you don't have to be like the proper like the world is going to fall down, but also like having having I mean that's what I mean just like have an idea of where you want to go where you want to grow and and keeping that in your mind's eye because also you don't want to be a job that you don't like either like that's just going
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: we've been talking a lot like to help like the employee out.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to like we do have people who like are employers and I will say like recently we had a higher for a role and we've had the same person for so long and they went they're like I'm going to maternity leave forever and I'm like that's so nice for you.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: Okay great thanks for letting me know now.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but it took I will say it took us so long to hire someone because everyone was using AI to answer everything and we were literally like so we are we love that you can use it we actually would like to know what your personality is like we are we hire on personality around here because like sometimes they have to do different roles like sometimes you have to like step in and
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: But who are you?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: Do you fit with the family?
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what are some things that like employers should be doing to have their light on correctly so that they're really attracting because I mean, that's hard.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was it was frustrating how many people we interbere like, are you seeing a eye on the call right now with me?
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: Are you literally?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not even answering the question you're reading the answer you.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's that is that's hard.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean again, I have a lot of clients have started utilizing video.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: more than anything else.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I know I could still be reading AI somewhere in this office, right?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we are like making people do a lot more video interviews so that you cannot hide behind the phone and you know things like that people can see you we've had clients that are insisting that the candidate basically record themselves.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: for 30 seconds to a minute, so that they can send in a video that is not necessarily anything to do with the job but like who are you?
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have a personality?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: Would you fit in, you know, and why would you potentially wanna work for us?
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll be honest, people are pushing us on this.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, the candidates are pushing back.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, wait a second.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I, and I get it a little bit because I'm like, you know, we don't want anyone to think that someone's hiring on appearance, right?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's because that's death danger zone.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you're correct.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, you will eventually be in person with somebody if you're, you know, good at interviewing and you know, I'm saying and like you shouldn't just hire somebody over the phone like that.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: I do see that's where things are going, where they're almost not giving a chance to they have to be in person.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: They have to show their personalities in order, you know, to to be vetted to to even be accepted or anything like that.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: And getting away, it's one thing to have the technical piece of it.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta have these platforms.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta know that you gotta know that you got to know this.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I think gone are a lot of the predictive index personality tests that you take, and it just says whether you're a great score or not, which I'm just like, man, those suck, right?
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: But anyways, I think that people are going away with that and just trying to get a little bit more erstal.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks a lot.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love that we um.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: for a lot of the work that we've had to hire, like sometimes it's like, you know, someone for, like, just a project-based thing, and if people won't get on a camera with us, it's like, well, I can't hire you, because how do I know you're the one doing it?
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, you know, how do I know you're doing it?
- 34:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we're sending it to something else.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't want just random people working with me.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: I wanna be working with the person I'm working with.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: And so that has been,
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting thing how many people are like oh, yeah, and it's like okay then no so on then on the job description Like we'll do an interview you who asked me on camera that did these things because we don't want to waste anyone's time Like I don't always time with like, oh, fill this out and then I will say like for us We still do a string finders test, but
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: After we are pretty sure we're going to hire them because we actually just want to know like what are your top five strengths just so we can like fit because especially if you're in my assistant, you cannot have the same strength as me because it's not going to work out.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, no, and I think that's a great approach.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it those tests and honestly, one of the companies I work with.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: with Gecko actually utilizes that when we're looking for recruiters they like make us do something you know similar but it's based on the recruiter approach of what makes a good recruiter right yeah so I don't but it's not a break or make it's like yeah there's how to manage this person yes based on their personalities yes based on whether they're more extrovert they're more you know a system's driven the compliance or they're just going to do
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: whatever they held they want.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that there's definitely value in that, as long as it's truly not a make or break, like, you know, I have a client we're working with right now that's, you know, they have to take the assessment first and that will determine whether they even get otherwise.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's terrible because I'm a terrible test taker.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like that would make me very nervous.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think to get past that, to get to the interview, I think I would be better after I did the interview.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Once I knew you know when to know the
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I think that's, well, hopefully there wasn't too much to be said, you know, we are going to million different directions, but real quick, like when you get to the actual interview side, right, of like this whole strategy here, I mean, there's so much to be said about personality, how you can connect with people, how you can make yourself memorable, how you can leave impressions, the people will make decisions on that over anything else.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: I, you are 100% correct.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm definitely someone I had to get myself a rule of 24 hours.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: I have to think, like, I have to wait 24 hours because I would just get wooed by people like I was like, you know, I was like, I need 24 hours because the thing that bothers me about them will come to me in 24 hours.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, but can we real quick, like, for people who are interviewing, who get nervous, who like sweaty palms, like, you know, we already know that like if you have a confident stance, like you're more likely to get the job,
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: Are there things people should not say in an interview?
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think anytime you, the only thing I tell people not to say is just a bad mouth, the last employer, don't put, don't place blame, don't say we, you know, didn't make this because of this person.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think nobody wants to hear that, even if you have horror stories.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you really want somebody to truly understand and feel for you, right?
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: About what you've been through with your last job.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's kind of a gimmie, but like you can't do anything like that.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everything has to be like, and I think sometimes, especially if it's a bad situation, the less you say, the better.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: People think that they're like so scared to go in and be like, but you know, but I was fired or I, you know, something happened.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, let them ask you about it.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Don't bring it up.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then when they do you state of facts.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then hopefully you point the direction and you move past it.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: You don't state the fact and then give the laundry list of why if they want to know, they'll keep asking and you just have to keep being truthful, you know, honest, transparent, not placing blame if you did something wrong.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: Say it.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: You are the only one that's seeing that fear there, right?
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, if you can just be like, I'm gonna say what it is, and then I'm, we're just gonna move on.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that helps a little bit.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, because also it's like, it's not like the people who hire you and you haven't.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: experienced either losing a job or exiting a job or a thing.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're human beings too.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 38:36[SPEAKER_02]: They've had people that they love, that they hired, that got fired.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like these things happen.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that that's not letting that be, oh, let me over explain this thing.
- 38:47[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it goes back to the resume too.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: People get really like specific about, you know, numbers and details.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, I need
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: information to make it seem like you're, you know, that you've got solutions and and you're solving problems and all the stuff, which is proven to help people with resumes, and but they'll be like, you know, I don't know about, you know, 15% or was it 30% and I'm like,
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody will fact check you, I promise, right?
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, don't overthink it.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: No one is gonna be like, I'm gonna call and I'm gonna find out if this is true or not.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: Don't lie, I don't mean that.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry, inflate where it's like, really, I have to like, I don't know, I question that.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: But like, it's more of a psychological impression, right?
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you just have to get out of your own ways sometimes around that.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: And meet me in the middle, as all I'm saying, don't be too much this way and don't be too much this way.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: You have to be in the middle.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: Megan, what are you most excited about right now?
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I am most excited about.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: starting to potentially think about building my own team with the career coach side.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's so cool.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I don't think I fully mentioned this before, but the first, the first piece of what I do with recruiting is with Gecko Hospitality.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's a national recruiting Hospitality specific firm and it's a franchise model, which is how I got into it, which is a little bit easier when I first started, you know, the
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: for North Carolina and Missouri, and then from that with, I think, four years in.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, came the baby of this is my second business coming into the resume writing and the crew coaching and that kind of side of like, oh my gosh, there's so much that people don't know and you help them, right?
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: So that piece of it, I'm starting to get to the point where I'm ready to build a little bit of a team there.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that's exciting.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's so cool.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so, I'm so, yeah, I'm like, oh my god, I'm not even looking for a job and I want to help with my resume from you.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I'm sure you went through this, too.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, years ago of just like, okay, I can't handle this anymore.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: And recognizing that, you know, starting a business from that ground up, there are so many things to do.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: You have to know what you're good at and what you're not good at and figure out how to hire people or at least get help with those.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it took me a long time to realize that I was just like, I can do it all.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: And also like you have to do it all sometimes so that you can like hire the people right people for it But also like in order to grow you got like and like unless you just like it and like where it's at But if you want it to be more you want to help more people and I actually like it feels like
- 41:43[SPEAKER_02]: we're at a place where you're going to have more people who are going to need help with their resumes of standing out because with the changes that the companies that are adopting AI, like people are going to need to like really be thinking about what other things they can highlight that they've done because there's a ton of stuff that AI cannot do well, you know, so yeah, absolutely.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: They can put a well structured sentence together, but yeah, like do they,
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: What information do they have to be able to do that?
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then you don't sound real and that's a problem.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, right.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I was watching some ads and I was like, Hey, I wrote that because then they go no one talks like that.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: No one actually goes, however, and no one says, Quippy and everything that they say like that's just like not like there's these I like this one girl.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Instagram was like, Oh, I love what you're saying, but like you are going to script that you ran through AI with your idea.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I would have just liked your raw idea because I would have you know what I mean.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: I felt like I'm talking to a girlfriend.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'm talking to a bot.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: Anyways, oh my gosh.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm so excited for you.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna take a brief break and find out people can work with you and gain their resume, help, and all of them, their career coach, and all that stuff, and then your beat action items.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Megan.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: Where do you hang out?
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: Where?
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if we got people who are like, I should talk talking to her now because I don't know where things are in me next year.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: Where can they work with you?
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: LinkedIn, as we talked about, is probably the best place to find me.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a couple different businesses, but just find me
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: And my website is career blueprint solutions.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: So those are the three areas.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: We'll link everything below you guys.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is definitely an episode.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_02]: I know people are going to send a friend.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: Because everyone has a friend who's a little bit needing this help right now.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_02]: You've given some really great strategies, actually.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: But we loved end with a bold, executable intrinsic or targeted steps people can take to be it to they see it.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: What do you have for us?
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think we kind of talked about some of it, but if you want like my four kind of like tips in terms of actually being ready for a job, I would say
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: understand where you want to go.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: That is number one.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like actually go out and figure out, okay, I've been in this industry.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: Do I want to stay in a if I do where do I want to go?
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: Always understand where that next promotion is.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: Once you figure that out, go out into the internet, find those job descriptions, save them, find with the key language, the KPIs, the keywords,
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: and the problems that they solved.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Then go to LinkedIn and find two to three people on LinkedIn that have that job.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: Look through their profile and hopefully it's, you know, it's pretty complete and figure out what they're doing and then you have to go and update your resume and your LinkedIn profile to signal where people can find you.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_01]: So they'll call you for that next role.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so doable, like actually doable, like one step at a time, you lead to the next step, you can't skip ahead, and then you're gonna turn your light on.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: Turn your light on.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's not what it is at all.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: Peasable, yeah.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, I love that term.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna start utilizing that now.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: We're just fighting.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_02]: We're just fighting.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's a rock sand.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: You can.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, you can.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: Or no, it's not, that's the, you don't have to turn your light on.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's the wrong song.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: There's a nice song, Brad, I'll tell you what it is on the recap.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: Megan, you are a gem.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: I really do.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: appreciate this because I've had so many people come on and tell people like go and do follow your dreams, follow your blows, but like some of us, some people actually, their bliss is working for companies and being in a role and doing their doing the good work.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: And this is the first time I've been able to like really support them in like actionable strategy.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want to say thank you for being you.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean the blueprint career coach the UR, like I feel so grateful.
