- 1:34- Welcome to the divine five one five podcast.
- 1:38- Here is today's prayer.
- 1:45- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 1:49- Rocha.
- 1:51- This September, our theme is how to study
- 1:54- the Bible. So it changes your life.
- 1:56- We've learned how to move from reading scripture
- 1:58- to understanding it and from knowing God's word
- 2:01- to actually living it.
- 2:03- This week, we're focusing on renewing your mind
- 2:06- through God's word.
- 2:08- We'll address the thoughts that shape our everyday
- 2:10- lives, including worry comparison,
- 2:13- negative self talk,
- 2:14- discouragement, and the mental noise that can make
- 2:17- God's truth difficult to hear.
- 2:20- More importantly, we'll learn how scripture gives us
- 2:23- truth to stand on how prayer helps us
- 2:25- apply that truth when our thoughts begin pulling
- 2:28- us in another direction.
- 2:31- Because transformation
- 2:32- isn't only about changing what we do.
- 2:35- God also wants to transform how we think,
- 2:38- and that leads us to our key scripture
- 2:40- for this week.
- 2:41- Romans twelve two,
- 2:44- do not confirm to the pattern of this
- 2:46- world,
- 2:47- but be transformed
- 2:48- by the renewing of your mind.
- 2:52- This week's prayer strategy. We're going to be
- 2:54- focusing on
- 2:56- catch it, check it and change it.
- 2:58- When a troubling thought keeps repeating itself this
- 3:01- week,
- 3:02- catch it. What am I thinking?
- 3:05- Check it.
- 3:06- Does this thought agree with what God says?
- 3:09- Change it.
- 3:11- What scripture can I pray instead?
- 3:14- Then turn that scripture into a personal prayer.
- 3:18- The goal isn't to pretend difficult thoughts don't
- 3:21- exist.
- 3:22- It's to stop allowing
- 3:25- every thought to have authority over you.
- 3:29- The first
- 3:31- focus we're going to be dealing with for
- 3:33- today
- 3:35- is if you can't stop
- 3:37- thinking negative thoughts,
- 3:39- how to renew your mind with God's word.
- 3:42- Scripture text for today is Philippians four eight.
- 3:48- Whatever is true, whatever is noble,
- 3:51- whatever is right, whatever is pure.
- 3:54- Think about such things.
- 3:58- One negative thought can finally become an entire
- 4:01- conversation in our minds.
- 4:04- I'll never get this right.
- 4:06- Nothing is going to change. I can't handle
- 4:08- this.
- 4:10- The more often we repeat a thought,
- 4:12- the more believable
- 4:14- it can begin to sound,
- 4:16- but not every thought deserves our agreement.
- 4:20- Yet when we're tired,
- 4:22- disappointed,
- 4:23- or under pressure, it's easy to accept our
- 4:26- thoughts as truth without examining them against God's
- 4:29- word.
- 4:31- Prayer gives us an opportunity to interrupt that
- 4:33- thought instead of feeding it.
- 4:36- We can stop and ask,
- 4:38- is what I'm telling myself actually true according
- 4:41- to God's word?
- 4:43- Then scripture gives us something stronger to put
- 4:45- in its place.
- 4:48- Prayer isn't pretending the struggle doesn't exist.
- 4:51- It's refusing to let the struggle
- 4:54- determine what we believe.
- 4:56- That being said, let's pray.
- 5:01- Heavenly father, help me recognize the thoughts I've
- 5:04- allowed to speak louder than your truth.
- 5:07- One negative,
- 5:09- thoughts begin shaping my perspective.
- 5:11- Bring your word back to my mind.
- 5:14- Teach me to reject thoughts that contradict what
- 5:16- you've said and fill my mind with what
- 5:19- is true, honorable, and pleasing to you.
- 5:22- Let me think
- 5:25- your thoughts and let them become increasingly shaped
- 5:27- by your truth instead of my circumstances.
- 5:31- And I will bless you in Jesus' name.
- 5:33- Amen.
- 5:34- Today,
- 5:36- catch one negative thought and replace it with
- 5:38- one biblical truth.
- 5:40- And if you know someone whose thoughts have
- 5:42- been weighing
- 5:43- them down heavily,
- 5:44- share this prayer with them. Sometimes
- 5:47- one truth arrives at exactly the moment someone
- 5:50- needs it. And until tomorrow, keep meeting God
- 5:54- at the throne.
