- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, this is Donald Faison and Zach Braff. So
- 0:03Speaker 1: this podcast we recorded it the same day after everyone
- 0:06Speaker 1: found out George Floyd getting murdered. First of all, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: do not necessarily know what to say to everyone out there. Truthfully,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I wish everything and everyone could be happy right now,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but that's definitely not what's going on in the world.
- 0:23Speaker 1: For me. This is a time where I feel like
- 0:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I wish that I could sit here
- 0:30Speaker 1: and say we're making progress, but we want to make
- 0:34Speaker 1: you laugh here. I will say this, I am very,
- 0:37Speaker 1: very supportive of the people out there fighting the good
- 0:39Speaker 1: fight that are protesting right now, and I stand with you.
- 0:44Speaker 2: We also wanted to let you know that the next
- 0:47Speaker 2: few podcasts were recorded before all of this has reached
- 0:51Speaker 2: such a fever pitch, and we didn't want you to
- 0:53Speaker 2: think for a second that we were being callous about
- 0:56Speaker 2: that and not dialed into what's happening. So we just
- 0:58Speaker 2: wanted to let you you know the next few podcasts
- 1:01Speaker 2: were recorded prior to things being as they are currently.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That being said, I hope we can distract you from
- 1:06Speaker 1: the madness that's going on right now for just an
- 1:10Speaker 1: hour and a half just an hour and a half,
- 1:14Speaker 1: sit back and enjoy this with us.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Here we go. So Donald, you're five six minutes late. Well,
- 1:19Speaker 2: well you know this is hot that we.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Do, and do it five minutes late. My wife hot
- 1:26Speaker 1: boxed medeo. She took a shower right before the podcast,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and the shower is connected to the closet, like, not
- 1:34Speaker 1: the shower itself, but the bathroom's connected to the closet.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So it's like two hundred degrees in here right now.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Amazon shirt. It feels like, well, I had this on
- 1:44Speaker 1: for the view today, man, which.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Looked great on the view. We were on the View today. Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 2: Donald's looked very handsome.
- 1:50Speaker 1: And thank you very much. You changed your shirt.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I did. I put on a night I didn't. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: wanted to look good for for for the ladies, and
- 1:56Speaker 2: I put on a night you did.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You look very nice anyway, My wife hot box. So
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's like it's like an Amazon jungle up in here
- 2:02Speaker 1: right now. Man, okay, and I want to show a
- 2:05Speaker 1: tank top. I whantn't you switch to a tank top?
- 2:07Speaker 1: We could watch it happen live. Listen. Man, she's mad
- 2:10Speaker 1: about something right now. I don't know you're mad about
- 2:12Speaker 1: I did wrong. I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Sometimes you don't ever, you never know. Sometimes she's just mad.
- 2:17Speaker 1: She's just mad out of know.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I bet if you brainstorms, you could figure out what
- 2:22Speaker 2: you may have done.
- 2:24Speaker 1: In this moment right now. I can't figure it out.
- 2:27Speaker 1: In other moments, I've been able to put it all
- 2:30Speaker 1: together and be like, oh that was I bet it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: because of this.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's the worst. When you can't figure it out, You're like, what.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I do, dude, I have no idea. I've been good
- 2:39Speaker 1: to the kids. I fed them, you fed, I've done
- 2:43Speaker 1: all of that stuff. I just don't know.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, listen, I think we were really good on the view.
- 2:46Speaker 2: It was hard because there was a big delay, yes,
- 2:50Speaker 2: and and more so than normal zoom. It was like
- 2:54Speaker 2: a few a second or two delays. So it's always
- 2:57Speaker 2: tricky to be funny when when you're stepping all over
- 3:01Speaker 2: each other.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Well, I will say this. My mother, who does not
- 3:06Speaker 1: listen to our podcast, watched the view. She watch she
- 3:11Speaker 1: said we are great together. She was like, I'm gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: tell you something. She was like, you and Zach interview
- 3:16Speaker 1: so well together. It's ridiculous.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Oh that's nice.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Oh, man, listen.
- 3:21Speaker 2: We want to cheer you up. If you're frustrated with
- 3:24Speaker 2: the universe and you're frustrated like Donald is, We're here
- 3:28Speaker 2: to entertain you. We're here to take your mind off things.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You might be on a hike, you might be walking
- 3:33Speaker 2: your dog, you might be breastfeeding, you might be doing
- 3:35Speaker 2: the dishes, you might be tugging one out. We are
- 3:38Speaker 2: here to make you laugh. Donald.
- 3:40Speaker 1: If you're tugging, I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say one.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Can I just say one thing before say one thing?
- 3:45Speaker 1: If you're tugging one out while listening to us, Yes,
- 3:50Speaker 1: thank you.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He would like you to finish as as Donald counts down,
- 3:57Speaker 2: do it.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Five, six, seven, eight. I'm not show.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We made about a bunch of Nisaea.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm not sure if the good people at iHeart are
- 4:25Speaker 2: going to approve that.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But they don't give a shit about that.
- 4:27Speaker 2: They're not even listening. They're not even listening.
- 4:30Speaker 1: They don't care anymore.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You know.
- 4:31Speaker 2: They my first sign with iHeart, they were like, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 2: you know, you guys can just do whatever you want
- 4:36Speaker 2: and we'll give you notes and thoughts and take them
- 4:38Speaker 2: or leave them. We haven't heard anything from them. I
- 4:39Speaker 2: think we're doing well enough that they just let us
- 4:41Speaker 2: do our thing.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I love the people over at iHeart I just put
- 4:44Speaker 1: it out there. Let's just put it out there now
- 4:46Speaker 1: wherever you're listening to your podcast right now. Yeah, I
- 4:50Speaker 1: heeart has been so awesome to us.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yes, and Will. We got to give shout out to
- 4:56Speaker 2: Will Pearson, who's the guy who we we we first
- 4:59Speaker 2: met and and he's really come through with all his
- 5:02Speaker 2: He pretty much said, you guys can do whatever you want.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And uh, he's he's let us do our thing.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you know, he didn't promise a lot of
- 5:09Speaker 1: at the first meeting we had with him, but he
- 5:11Speaker 1: was definitely like, this is a no brainer, guys, And.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Well it is. I mean, look at this comic gold here.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Plus we got we met, we met Dan and Joel.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it's serendipitous if you really want to
- 5:23Speaker 1: look at it. So I want to thank Joel, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: want to thank Dan, I want to thank Will. I
- 5:27Speaker 1: want to thank all of you out there listening right now.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thank you so much so far there.
- 5:31Speaker 2: We're so grateful. We're so grateful for you. Neither one.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Donald and I always talk about how we never thought
- 5:36Speaker 2: this would be this much fun. We thought, uh, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: we thought, okay, that'll be something to do, that'll be
- 5:41Speaker 2: a little fun side projects. But we are having so
- 5:43Speaker 2: much fun, and we we we know that you are.
- 5:46Speaker 2: We see that you're that you're listening, and please tell
- 5:49Speaker 2: your friends. We want to now we're now, we're invested.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Now we're like, let's fucking go for it. We hope,
- 5:54Speaker 2: we hope one day when the world opens up, that
- 5:56Speaker 2: we can tour the show. We'd love to. We know
- 5:58Speaker 2: that some podcasts come to cities all over the world
- 6:01Speaker 2: and do it live. We'll do it live and Donald
- 6:04Speaker 2: live live. Donald and I would love to do that.
- 6:06Speaker 2: We'd love to come to your city and we'll show
- 6:08Speaker 2: the episode first and then we'll come out and we'll
- 6:11Speaker 2: do this exact show with Q and a's and audience participation.
- 6:15Speaker 2: We'll bring Dan and Joel. Of course, maybe we'll have
- 6:18Speaker 2: a tour bus Donald. We'll get to finally live that
- 6:19Speaker 2: tour bus life we've always dreamed about.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I would love to have a tour.
- 6:23Speaker 2: With Joel and Dan on the bus.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Well, they get to come inside from the bus, but no.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I want them to. You know how your band always
- 6:29Speaker 2: travels in the bus.
- 6:30Speaker 1: We'd be a four person band.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Four person band.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I come with a couple of groupies though I got
- 6:36Speaker 1: a couple.
- 6:36Speaker 2: No, you're not rolling with your kids and your wife.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I can't tour with my wife and kids after all
- 6:41Speaker 1: of this.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No you can, but they're in a separate bus. If
- 6:44Speaker 2: you're gonna stop, bring a family. Joel and Dan and
- 6:46Speaker 2: I are going to be partying in the party bus like that,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and you and your family can be in the family bus.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna be on the party bus.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I want to shout out, I'm exciting. Just to remind
- 6:55Speaker 2: me of Donald mentioned this. But we have coming up
- 6:58Speaker 2: Krista Miller. We have Sarah Chalk coming back on the show.
- 7:02Speaker 2: We have Scott Foley coming on the show. Yeah, we're
- 7:06Speaker 2: hoping to get Neil Flynn. We're still working his dates
- 7:09Speaker 2: out with him. We have a Shay Serrano who is
- 7:12Speaker 2: an amazing writer who wrote his own self published book
- 7:16Speaker 2: about Scrubs and he's an amazing bestseller. And he's the
- 7:21Speaker 2: first he will be the first official Scrubs megafan to
- 7:26Speaker 2: be on the show because.
- 7:29Speaker 1: We have mega fans call in.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So no, I'm saying as a guest. As a guest
- 7:32Speaker 2: no doubt, and then we're gonna get Brendan Fraser on
- 7:37Speaker 2: episode one twenty three, My Hero. And then we're gonna
- 7:40Speaker 2: close out season one with Bill Lawrence and Christa Miller
- 7:43Speaker 2: on at the same time. Hopefully they'll bicker and it
- 7:46Speaker 2: will be hilarious.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I hope they argue.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I'm not gonna argue. You know, they always go on
- 7:50Speaker 2: Howard Sterting together and they bicker and tell dirty stories
- 7:53Speaker 2: from their marriage, and it'll be great.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Bill and christ have dirty stories.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think there was a story where they
- 7:59Speaker 2: had sex see in a bathroom at someone else's wedding.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Oh my god. Bill and Christa freaks like that.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, And I hope they're not just sharing that naughty
- 8:07Speaker 2: stuff for Howard Stern. I hope they're gonna they better
- 8:09Speaker 2: not come on here and be two PG. You know,
- 8:11Speaker 2: people go on Howard and Myself Included, and you want
- 8:13Speaker 2: to be like, oh, I'm gonna tell my most outrageous tales. Well,
- 8:16Speaker 2: I hope they come on and talk about banging in
- 8:19Speaker 2: a bathroom at someone's wedding.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I can't get over that. Oh my gosh.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Also, how for.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Those who are tugging, you're welcome.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You should be done tugging by now. Please, the show
- 8:31Speaker 2: has started. You were supposed to be done by five
- 8:33Speaker 2: to six s eight.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Do you want to get into the show or do
- 8:39Speaker 1: you want to talk to somebody?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Just kind of I'm having so much fun talking to you,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but we can, we can start the show. It's it's
- 8:43Speaker 2: an odd show. I'm not gonna say it's one of
- 8:45Speaker 2: my favorites. Okay, Okay, I know that's crazy talk, but
- 8:48Speaker 2: it's not. It's not one of the best. Okay, There's
- 8:50Speaker 2: a couple of cool things in it. The show begins
- 8:54Speaker 2: with an epic wonner.
- 8:56Speaker 1: This is the one that we talked about a couple
- 8:59Speaker 1: of times on the podcast.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Now, just to reiterate for those of you who are like,
- 9:02Speaker 2: what the fuck's a wanner? I know some of you
- 9:05Speaker 2: know the film jargon, but for those of you who don't,
- 9:07Speaker 2: wonder is where the camera never cuts? That is to say,
- 9:09Speaker 2: there are no edits. The whole thing is filmed and
- 9:12Speaker 2: the camera is mounted to Charles Pappard, all balls and no.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Shaft and no shaft.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Charles Pappard, all balls and no shaft, and Charles Pepperd
- 9:24Speaker 2: all balls and no shaft, slid into my dms by
- 9:26Speaker 2: the way and said that he should come on the podcast.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I'd love that. Oh that would be so awesome.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we should have money as soon as
- 9:34Speaker 2: we wanted to come on for well, we're kind of full,
- 9:36Speaker 2: as I just told the audience, we got a full plate.
- 9:38Speaker 2: But maybe for season two we Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Absolutely, man, he should totally be on the show.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It would have been smart for us to have him
- 9:46Speaker 2: on this episode because there's this epic steady cam wanner
- 9:49Speaker 2: that opens the whole show. But he did.
- 9:52Speaker 1: First of all, Charles Peppert isn't a very big man,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and he's one of in my opinion, he's a great
- 10:01Speaker 1: steady cam operator. He's a great camera operator. But he's
- 10:04Speaker 1: a great steady cam operator also. And I remember this
- 10:07Speaker 1: being very taxing on his body one because I missed
- 10:10Speaker 1: the jump shot so many times. Bill, here's an opportunity
- 10:15Speaker 1: for you to clown me. How many times here we go?
- 10:18Speaker 1: How many times did I miss that jump shot?
- 10:23Speaker 4: Look, I don't want to.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Exaggerate it at all, but I would have to say
- 10:31Speaker 5: that Donald missed that shot, that jump shot at the
- 10:33Speaker 5: beginning of that long Warner take. I want to say
- 10:37Speaker 5: he missed it at least seventy times in a row.
- 10:41Speaker 4: But to.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Donald could play ball. He actually played in my basketball
- 10:46Speaker 5: game a bunch. But I do want it now committed
- 10:48Speaker 5: to public record. Donald's older brother Dotta is much much
- 10:52Speaker 5: much better at basketball than Donald is, and Donald has
- 10:54Speaker 5: to live with that. I mean, his older brother can ball.
- 10:57Speaker 5: The guy's a rock star in the court.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So Joelle is going to put it on our show
- 11:00Speaker 2: notes and you can click the link to the video,
- 11:02Speaker 2: and I believe it's a it's a behind the scenes
- 11:04Speaker 2: of doing this epic wonner, and you can see how
- 11:06Speaker 2: many times Donald misses the jump shot.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Anyway, so we do that. We finally hit it, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: there are a couple of times where Charles h didn't
- 11:15Speaker 1: do something right and we had to go back to
- 11:18Speaker 1: the beginning again. But anyway, while watching this episode and
- 11:23Speaker 1: watching this infamous wonner, Yes, as we get closer to
- 11:28Speaker 1: the end, if you notice, our energy just keeps picking up,
- 11:32Speaker 1: And yes, if we start getting more and more excited, Yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 1: if you look at really the person to watch is Sarah,
- 11:39Speaker 1: because Sarah is going nuts inside, like you can see
- 11:43Speaker 1: her like.
- 11:43Speaker 2: This, Yeah, we're gonna do it.
- 11:45Speaker 1: We're gonna do it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: You know as you can see, you're right. As you
- 11:47Speaker 2: can see when you watch the shot, there's so many
- 11:50Speaker 2: moving pieces. There's a lot of background. There's there's us,
- 11:52Speaker 2: there's Donald hitting the jump shot. Then we get on there,
- 11:55Speaker 2: we go to the hospital, We get on a working elevator.
- 11:57Speaker 2: We actually got in the elevator.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Do you recall the person that was working the elevator
- 12:01Speaker 1: for us?
- 12:01Speaker 2: I wrote it down Norm.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Norm's right.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Norm was a sort of an all around utility guy
- 12:08Speaker 2: on the scrub set. He would work the air conditioning tubes,
- 12:11Speaker 2: move them around, and he and he dressed up because
- 12:13Speaker 2: we needed someone to be to actually operate the elevator.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So we get in the elevator with Kelso. Then we
- 12:18Speaker 2: come out, We strut down the hallway, we go into
- 12:21Speaker 2: the ICU. The camera whippands to Johnny c still without
- 12:25Speaker 2: having cut. It comes back to us and then we
- 12:28Speaker 2: come around the corner and we were joined by Carla,
- 12:31Speaker 2: and then it whips around again and we see all
- 12:33Speaker 2: the new men students. So that took I think we
- 12:35Speaker 2: rehearsed probably a full half day.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Maybe, Yeah, it took a while to It took a
- 12:41Speaker 1: while just to set the shot up. I remember that, yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and then to get I remember we were supposed to
- 12:46Speaker 1: get the shot done before lunch, and we did. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: then but like by the skin of our teeth, if
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm correct, I'm not exactly sure, but I know that
- 12:56Speaker 1: there was so many other than me missing the jump shot.
- 12:59Speaker 1: There were so many things that were involved that had
- 13:02Speaker 1: to go right for it to work, and sometimes it
- 13:05Speaker 1: didn't work. And uh, and what Donald's I agree with you.
- 13:08Speaker 2: What you're saying is so by the time we made
- 13:10Speaker 2: it to the second floor and we were kind of
- 13:13Speaker 2: then the hard part was over. We like did Donald's
- 13:15Speaker 2: jump shot, and we did the choreography at the elevator
- 13:18Speaker 2: and then we were strutting all all three of us
- 13:20Speaker 2: are like, oh shit, we're making it.
- 13:22Speaker 1: We're gonna make it, and you can see it. Sarah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: Sarah is the most excited you could tell. So when
- 13:28Speaker 1: I go give me some hungry chicken and you guys
- 13:30Speaker 1: are eating, watch her. She's like, she uses both hands.
- 13:34Speaker 1: It was originally supposed to be one hand. She's using
- 13:37Speaker 1: both hands and she's pounding my hand. And that's why
- 13:40Speaker 1: I said to you, you're not hungry enough.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Ah, you were getting cocky too. Made it to the
- 13:46Speaker 2: end you started improving.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, that was improv Absolutely.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That's cute. Well, I gotta tell you that was It
- 13:53Speaker 2: was really cool. And I wanted to say that if
- 13:58Speaker 2: you're looking for there's a lot of famous ononers can
- 14:00Speaker 2: you can you can google it on online and find
- 14:03Speaker 2: some of in some of your favorite movies. But one
- 14:04Speaker 2: of my favorites is in Goodfellas. If you remember that
- 14:07Speaker 2: iconic shot that goes down into the restaurant when when
- 14:10Speaker 2: he's bringing her on it on the first date and
- 14:13Speaker 2: through the kitchen and up into the restaurant and I
- 14:15Speaker 2: and and they're just really fun. Filmmakers and actors love
- 14:19Speaker 2: them because it's it's so challenging to pull it off well.
- 14:22Speaker 2: And I think this was the biggest one we did
- 14:24Speaker 2: in Olive Scrubs.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Uh.
- 14:28Speaker 1: One of my favorite movies is Swingers, and they talk
- 14:30Speaker 1: about you know, slow motion shots and wonners. Uh, and
- 14:35Speaker 1: yeah that I think. I think Scorsese's Goodfellas wonner. It's
- 14:39Speaker 1: probably one of the best wonders in the history. Yeah.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's just uh, I think it introduced me
- 14:46Speaker 2: as a young film student to how how cool they
- 14:50Speaker 2: could be. And there's an epic one in Orson Wells's
- 14:53Speaker 2: film Touch of Evil that opens the film as well. Uh,
- 14:56Speaker 2: you know, there's there's dozens of them, but so this
- 14:58Speaker 2: was ho homage.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The Nutty Professor has one, and not the one with
- 15:02Speaker 1: Eddie Murphy, the one with Jerry Lewis. He's before he
- 15:06Speaker 1: walks into the club as Buddy Love. You know, he's
- 15:09Speaker 1: walking down the street and people are stopping and looking
- 15:11Speaker 1: at him like, you know, and you're not expect you
- 15:14Speaker 1: don't know what to expect when you see him. You're
- 15:15Speaker 1: thinking that the Nutty Professor is you know, it's a
- 15:18Speaker 1: Jequlin Hyde story and his mister Hyde is like this
- 15:22Speaker 1: grotesque thing. And when he walks into the bar and
- 15:25Speaker 1: finally you get to see what he looks like, the
- 15:29Speaker 1: reaction from everybody it makes sense, but it's like, wait,
- 15:33Speaker 1: hold up, y'all were acting like this was the scariest
- 15:36Speaker 1: dude on the planet, and really it's just Buddy Love walking.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Have you ever seen a nutty Professor? No, I've Oh
- 15:42Speaker 1: my god, listen, let me tell you right now. Jerry
- 15:45Speaker 1: Lewis in that movie. I know he said some questionable
- 15:48Speaker 1: things on television and stuff like that, but you want
- 15:53Speaker 1: to talk about switching it up when he plays the
- 15:57Speaker 1: Nerd and then he plays Buddy Love.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I gotta watch it.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He says, some of the monologues in that movie are amazing, Like,
- 16:04Speaker 1: he says, some of the most amazing, Like he is
- 16:08Speaker 1: a true pimp in all sense of the word.
- 16:11Speaker 2: In all respect, all respect, all.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Respect to.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Hetty Love.
- 16:17Speaker 2: What's his name, Buddy Love?
- 16:18Speaker 1: Buddy Love?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Do you have to mention by the Yeah, I'm gonna
- 16:21Speaker 2: check it out, not to mention the fame. Now, there's
- 16:22Speaker 2: been some famous Wonner movies, including Birdman and what was
- 16:27Speaker 2: the one that just came out that everybody loved so much?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Nineteen seventeen.
- 16:31Speaker 1: But that's CG two though, isn't it that? No?
- 16:33Speaker 2: They they well they didn't do a Wonner movie. They
- 16:36Speaker 2: hit a bunch of cuts, but it's but they're still
- 16:40Speaker 2: doing like eight minute scenes with five hundred extras and
- 16:43Speaker 2: incredible stuff, things exploding. If you are, if you were
- 16:46Speaker 2: a film geek like I am, go go watch behind
- 16:50Speaker 2: the scenes of nineteen seventeen and you'll see just some
- 16:53Speaker 2: extraordinary filmmaking. Anyway, so we just.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Wrote that down, dude, nineteen seventeen, need to watch.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yeah, go watch behind. You've never seen the film.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I have yet to see the film.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Oh, the film's beautiful, but more but I was told
- 17:04Speaker 2: I needed to watch it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I was told I needed to see it in a
- 17:06Speaker 1: theater because of the scope.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but now you can't. But I I saw a
- 17:10Speaker 2: screener because we got it for Award season, and I love.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I thought it was so beautiful. I went to the theater.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I said, I got to see this, and I went
- 17:16Speaker 2: and saw it at the dome. You know here in
- 17:18Speaker 2: Hollywood we have a big dome theater.
- 17:20Speaker 4: And it was just.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Gorgeous and and and amazing acting by everybody involved, and
- 17:27Speaker 2: it's beautiful, great time too. I heard, yes, yes, sir.
- 17:31Speaker 2: At one thirty two, we start strutting. I mean we
- 17:34Speaker 2: are strutting. Yeah, that's like a George Jefferson strut.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, it's like the straight up well we're
- 17:41Speaker 1: moving on.
- 17:42Speaker 4: No.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah, we were very SIUs. Look I'm trying to tell
- 17:46Speaker 1: you man, we were so excited with We were excited,
- 17:49Speaker 1: so excited.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And then scrubs wiki. I was pointed out that at
- 17:53Speaker 2: one fifty two, you can see my mic cable now
- 17:57Speaker 2: now now, nowadays, we would just you know, visual effects
- 18:01Speaker 2: are so much easier. You would just paint something like
- 18:03Speaker 2: that out. They just go in like like you know,
- 18:06Speaker 2: like Photoshop but moving video, and just paint a little
- 18:08Speaker 2: mic cable out. But back in the day, we certainly
- 18:12Speaker 2: weren't going to scrap finally making it through because he
- 18:14Speaker 2: saw a little mic cable. But you see, I gently
- 18:17Speaker 2: lift up my shirt a little bit and you can
- 18:19Speaker 2: see where the hidden mic cable is on me. So
- 18:22Speaker 2: there you go, the little Scrubs Wiki guy coming through.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Is this the first appearance of the Hungry Chicken at
- 18:27Speaker 2: two fifteen?
- 18:28Speaker 1: I think this is the only appearance of the Hungry Chicken?
- 18:31Speaker 2: No?
- 18:32Speaker 1: No, yeah, when did we do it again?
- 18:34Speaker 2: I feel like Hungry Chickens has been another episodes. Hey, Joelle,
- 18:39Speaker 2: have we set it up with our Scrubs Wiki guy
- 18:41Speaker 2: to answer questions and we ask him if he might
- 18:43Speaker 2: be down for that.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yes, he's very down to do anything for the show.
- 18:47Speaker 1: We're planning to have him on as our fan caller,
- 18:50Speaker 1: not this week but next week and then yeah, we
- 18:52Speaker 1: can ask him questions.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Well, let's audition him. Now, let's audition what's his name?
- 18:56Speaker 2: By the way, Joel, I just call him Scrubs Wiki.
- 18:58Speaker 2: What's his name?
- 18:59Speaker 1: I would have to look. Okay, we're gonna so as
- 19:01Speaker 1: of right now he scrubs Wiki.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Okay, scrubs Wiki. Thank you for all your hard work.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Is this the only time that the Hungry Chicken ever
- 19:09Speaker 2: appears in nine seasons of Scrubs? And if not, when
- 19:13Speaker 2: does it appear in other episodes? Yo? Trevor from Scrubs
- 19:18Speaker 2: Wiki here. According to our records, the episode My Student
- 19:21Speaker 2: is the only appearance of Hungry Chicken. Donald at three fourteen,
- 19:25Speaker 2: you say something like, what is this thing we're doing?
- 19:27Speaker 2: Baby girl?
- 19:29Speaker 1: So doude?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Okay, so I know we had a lot of songs,
- 19:32Speaker 2: but but this has no I do but I don't
- 19:36Speaker 2: by vaguely, but before you go into the song, what
- 19:39Speaker 2: there's no context for it in the episode at all?
- 19:41Speaker 1: No, there isn't. But this was you and I arguing
- 19:46Speaker 1: about R and B music, right, and you were like, dude,
- 19:50Speaker 1: all it is is dudes and girl dude saying baby girl,
- 19:56Speaker 1: sugar dolling baby baby girl, my loving girl meaning girl. Right.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And so when you said that, I remember laughing so
- 20:07Speaker 1: hard because they're pretty much every song that's R and B.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Keep it one hundred y'all. Baby.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they're gonna hear girl. You're gonna hear the word baby.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Definitely, you're definitely hearing baby. You're mostly if it's a
- 20:22Speaker 1: male artist, you're most likely hearing girl.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. Well, Donald the time, you were listening to
- 20:28Speaker 2: a lot of those kind of songs, and.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I still do. I still do Trey songs. I still
- 20:33Speaker 1: listen to all of that stuff. I love him to death.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Listen. We had some great guest casts. We had DJ
- 20:38Speaker 2: Qualls remember him from uh well, the most famously road Trip.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yes, he was from road Trip.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Yes, that was at the time. That was the most
- 20:46Speaker 2: famous thing he had done.
- 20:48Speaker 1: One of my best friends on the planet, Breck and
- 20:50Speaker 1: Meier and that movie as well.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I remember DJ Qualls told me a story when we
- 20:53Speaker 2: were shooting this episode that he had made a bunch
- 20:56Speaker 2: of money and he was working a lot and he
- 20:59Speaker 2: walked and he doesn't do credit cards at all, wanted
- 21:02Speaker 2: to just pay cash, didn't didn't mess with credit cards.
- 21:05Speaker 2: And he walked into a BMW dealership to buy a
- 21:08Speaker 2: fancy car. And he couldn't you know, a lanky, young
- 21:12Speaker 2: kid like him, he couldn't get anyone's attention they just
- 21:14Speaker 2: totally ignored him, and he was really it was like
- 21:17Speaker 2: totally the pretty woman moment where he was like, you
- 21:20Speaker 2: know what the commission Yeah, and he walked across the
- 21:24Speaker 2: street to the Mercedes dealership where someone finally gave him
- 21:27Speaker 2: attention and he bought a Mercedes with cash.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Wow.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Wow, he had it like that. He got it like that.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he had the money like that, and he was
- 21:36Speaker 2: like and he just remembered. He was telling me the
- 21:39Speaker 2: story of his pretty woman moment where like the sale,
- 21:41Speaker 2: no salesman was even talking to him, and he was like,
- 21:43Speaker 2: fuck these people, and he walked across the street and
- 21:45Speaker 2: bought him brought up from the competitive dealership with cash.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Adriane Winner played Uh, Sarah's med student. He's the Northwestern
- 21:54Speaker 2: grad so we know that he's a good actor, and
- 21:56Speaker 2: I thought he did a great job.
- 21:57Speaker 1: He did such a great job. I remember I looked
- 21:59Speaker 1: at this. I didn't remember. You know, it's me so
- 22:03Speaker 1: I didn't remember the episode, but I thought our guest
- 22:05Speaker 1: stars were so good in this episode.
- 22:07Speaker 2: In particular, I have to say Kelly Williams, who played
- 22:10Speaker 2: Johnny Cees love interest and was part of your story.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Absolutely, she was great. Uh what show was she on
- 22:18Speaker 1: at the time, Joelle, do you know I.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Was looking up she's been on all sorts of stuff
- 22:23Speaker 2: since because I was kind of curious what she's been
- 22:25Speaker 2: up to, and I was imdbing here. But she's been
- 22:27Speaker 2: working NonStop.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Well, yeah she was, but she was on a show
- 22:30Speaker 1: I think at the time, and it was.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I don't know, you might be confusing her with a
- 22:35Speaker 2: different guest star, but in any event, she was very
- 22:38Speaker 2: good and she and Johnny were good together.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Can we talk about Turk as a wingman? Yeah, Turk
- 22:44Speaker 1: is the best wing man ever. Yeah.
- 22:49Speaker 2: You really didn't want to do it until he was like,
- 22:51Speaker 2: you idiot, I'm obsessed with your girlfriend. Helped set me
- 22:55Speaker 2: up with someone else?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Right, well, right, that was the thing he I think
- 22:59Speaker 1: Turk enjoyed the fact that, uh, doctor Cox, that Perry
- 23:04Speaker 1: Cox was in love with Carla and couldn't have Carla,
- 23:08Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I think he loved the
- 23:10Speaker 1: fact that I have something on you that you will
- 23:14Speaker 1: never get. And then when he threatens him and says,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, I'll be sitting here waiting, Turk knows I'm
- 23:19Speaker 1: gonna fuck up eventually. And when I fuck up, this
- 23:21Speaker 1: dude's gonna pounce.
- 23:22Speaker 2: So you don't want this guy in the wings, right,
- 23:24Speaker 2: you know when you're dating you know when you're dating
- 23:26Speaker 2: someone and uh, and this is more back in the day.
- 23:29Speaker 1: It's not really like, oh, dude, I got I got
- 23:32Speaker 1: a great story for that dude.
- 23:34Speaker 2: No, but the dude had the friend who's in the wings,
- 23:36Speaker 2: like always just sitting there, just waiting for you to
- 23:39Speaker 2: fuck up.
- 23:39Speaker 1: My dude, my friend, my friend, my friend. I dated
- 23:43Speaker 1: someone and when we broke up, I remember her calling
- 23:47Speaker 1: me like, dude, you'd be surprised at all of these
- 23:50Speaker 1: guys that you know were so tight with us as
- 23:56Speaker 1: a group, like you'd hang out with them. She's like,
- 24:00Speaker 1: you'd be surprised of who's hitting me up. I'd be like,
- 24:02Speaker 1: I don't want to know, man, it's it's you know,
- 24:04Speaker 1: we're no longer to gather, do you but holy shit?
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but you still got mad about it. That's so sketchy.
- 24:10Speaker 2: The dudes in the wings like, oh, y'all, bro come.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's like a better off dead. I heard you broke
- 24:15Speaker 1: up with Beth If I give her a call.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great movie too.
- 24:22Speaker 1: That shit is great. When Barney he's watching The Flintstones,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and Barney's like, hey, Lloyd, I hope you I heard
- 24:28Speaker 1: you broke up with Beth. Can I ask her out?
- 24:32Speaker 2: That movie's amazing Better Off Dead? Check it out?
- 24:35Speaker 1: Better Off Dead, John Cusack?
- 24:37Speaker 2: What about at five eleven when when when Kelly's character
- 24:41Speaker 2: says to Todd that he is a lap pinky. I've
- 24:43Speaker 2: never heard the term lap pinky before.
- 24:46Speaker 1: What is a lap pinky?
- 24:47Speaker 2: A tiny penis?
- 24:49Speaker 1: Oh?
- 24:49Speaker 4: Right?
- 24:49Speaker 1: When she calls from that right with all the cheese,
- 24:52Speaker 1: she uses the word machiesmo. You said you hadn't heard
- 24:54Speaker 1: that word before. She uses it in the show.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I've heard my cheesemo.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I said it in something and you were like like
- 25:00Speaker 1: what Wow? Donald, with the much.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Is Kelly was on the practice, you were right about that,
- 25:04Speaker 2: thank you. Joe told you. Yeah, she's a very good actress,
- 25:08Speaker 2: and I thought she did a great job. Lap pinky.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I think we got to put that into our lexicon
- 25:12Speaker 2: on it because that's a nice term for having a
- 25:14Speaker 2: small penis.
- 25:15Speaker 1: A lap pinky?
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I just don't.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I don't. I don't get it.
- 25:20Speaker 2: But it's a pinky in your lap. Now you get it.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I totally get it now.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Oh it took you a second.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It took me a second. I was off a little bit.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Maybe it's the Scotch anyway, lap pinky.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, don't come around here with that lap pinky. I
- 25:39Speaker 2: don't we know, we know, we know you have a
- 25:42Speaker 2: lap baby forearm on that note. We're gonna go to break.
- 25:47Speaker 1: We'll be right back. All we do is talk about
- 25:56Speaker 1: wieners on this show.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I know, I know. I'm getting a lot of notes
- 25:59Speaker 2: from my girlfriend's mom about our willies. Oh man, she
- 26:04Speaker 2: calls it the Eel cast the eel.
- 26:11Speaker 1: All right, dude, you turned into the fucking hawk, yo.
- 26:14Speaker 1: You turned into the Hulk.
- 26:16Speaker 2: You know. I was so happy that Joel wrote in
- 26:17Speaker 2: her notes, was that really you, Zach? When you turn
- 26:21Speaker 2: to the Hulk, Joel, that is a giant stunt man
- 26:24Speaker 2: with a lot, with much bigger muscles than I could
- 26:27Speaker 2: ever grow.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I just love the fact that this is before like
- 26:29Speaker 1: all of the like Marbter movies have come out and everything,
- 26:33Speaker 1: like all the Marble stuff, and you turned into the
- 26:37Speaker 1: Hulk like back in the old Yeah, like the cheesy,
- 26:42Speaker 1: incredible cheesy.
- 26:43Speaker 2: That show is amazing. You didn't watch that show when
- 26:46Speaker 2: you were a kid.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Everybody watched the Hawk. But come on, buddy, like when
- 26:50Speaker 1: you look at the Hawk now compared to the.
- 26:52Speaker 2: But you're not putting it in the context, dude, when
- 26:55Speaker 2: we were kids, it seem hunk.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, all of those shows.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Man, No, six million dollar Man, remember that.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but when you look at at least the motherfucker
- 27:06Speaker 1: jumped over shit in the six million dollar Man and could.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Remember that noise? Dan, can you put in that that
- 27:11Speaker 2: noise of when the six would jump. I love that show.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I did too, The six million dollar Man. We can
- 27:20Speaker 1: rebuild them, we can fix them.
- 27:21Speaker 2: We can, by the way, now nowadays it would be
- 27:23Speaker 2: like the one billion dollar Man. We have the technology,
- 27:25Speaker 2: we can't happen. Right, Oh man, you only cost six
- 27:29Speaker 2: million dollars to fucking become become a robot man.
- 27:32Speaker 1: To become a freaking cyborg.
- 27:34Speaker 2: How come no one's remade that we should remake the
- 27:36Speaker 2: six million dollars the six million dollar Man. But as
- 27:40Speaker 2: as that would be hilarious, let's do it.
- 27:44Speaker 1: The bionic Man and the bionic Woman. Oh my gosh.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Now we both get special powers.
- 27:49Speaker 1: No, no, no one of us get special powers. The
- 27:52Speaker 1: other one is the freaking dude on the computer.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Oh but I know which one of us is gonna
- 27:56Speaker 2: want to be the dude in the computer. I guess
- 27:58Speaker 2: I'm sure you will mind because you go home to
- 27:59Speaker 2: your kids out, you'll work like an hour a day,
- 28:01Speaker 2: like hour, got to do your care to be on
- 28:05Speaker 2: the set at the computer, being like I'm enhancing the picture,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I'm moving in. Yeah, he's got a bomb in his
- 28:10Speaker 2: left pocket. And then you just go.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Home one day, work day of work, and then I'm.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Out there fucking sixteen hours a day doing fucking leaps
- 28:16Speaker 2: over buildings. I love it.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I think this is a great idea. I think this
- 28:20Speaker 1: is a show we should make.
- 28:21Speaker 2: All right, Well, if you're a producer out there in
- 28:23Speaker 2: Hollywood and you want to make a six million dollars
- 28:26Speaker 2: NCV show, It's Dollard night.
- 28:27Speaker 4: We're ready.
- 28:28Speaker 1: No, not a TV show, a movie, the movie.
- 28:30Speaker 4: No.
- 28:30Speaker 2: I think it should be streaming on Netflix.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And it should just be like super silly, like like
- 28:36Speaker 2: my the powers they gave me only work sometimes.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Do you remember the greatest American hero?
- 28:42Speaker 2: My powers are faulty? Yeah? I heard they were remaking that.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Of course I don't know what happened with it, but
- 28:46Speaker 1: I heard they.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Were greatest theme song ever, believe it or not.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Not walking on there. I never thought I could feel
- 28:52Speaker 1: so free, flying away on a wind and a prayer.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Who could be.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Believe it or not, it's just.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Dud.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Now you're trying to say you don't. You're trying to
- 29:11Speaker 2: say that show doesn't hold up anymore. That was magic.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It really does not hold up anymore. If you watch
- 29:15Speaker 1: that show, you'll be like, oh my gosh.
- 29:17Speaker 2: What about eighteen. I mean, no one ever got shot.
- 29:21Speaker 2: They're all firing ak forty sevens at each other and
- 29:24Speaker 2: no one ever gets hurt.
- 29:25Speaker 1: That's one thing we could say about our show. At
- 29:26Speaker 1: least people died on our show.
- 29:30Speaker 2: When they would do the and then they do the
- 29:40Speaker 2: sequence where they built shit, and I would be like, oh,
- 29:42Speaker 2: what are they building?
- 29:45Speaker 1: Dun dun dun du.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Dun d d be a baraka be a barakas. It
- 29:57Speaker 2: was barakas. Remember he couldn't fly, they'd have to doe.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Hannibal ain't getting on the plane.
- 30:04Speaker 2: You know what's so funny about that? It's so fucked up.
- 30:06Speaker 2: They would like they would drug his ass so that
- 30:08Speaker 2: he would fly.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and he fell for it every time.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Every time they'd be like, here sip this, mister t.
- 30:15Speaker 1: What is in this strange concoxing?
- 30:17Speaker 2: What did you put in my banana?
- 30:19Speaker 4: Right?
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna eat a banana right now. I hate you, Hannibal.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Damn you, Hannibal. You put that secret flying juice on
- 30:29Speaker 2: my banana.
- 30:36Speaker 1: But you turned into the incredible Hulk.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Oh man, I'm sad to you know, Marvel, you're all
- 30:41Speaker 2: those Marvel movies you love. They fucked up our childhood classics.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Like now everyone looks at the Hulk TV show and
- 30:46Speaker 2: they said that sucks. I thought it was a masterpiece.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Okay, you should go back and watch it. I know
- 30:51Speaker 1: I probably should try Aloma Olama very So you turn
- 30:55Speaker 1: into the Hawk and then Aloma you're like, you say
- 30:57Speaker 1: to her, you say to her something like he was horrible.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I I you know, I'm sorry, and she goes, you
- 31:02Speaker 1: don't got to apologize to me, but you will have
- 31:06Speaker 1: to apologize to Jesus.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, hilarious. Whenever Aloma did her her church going woman
- 31:13Speaker 2: preachy stuff, she was so funny.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Always, always, She's one of those.
- 31:18Speaker 2: People that just could sell the shit out of any
- 31:20Speaker 2: line that was hilarious.
- 31:21Speaker 1: You will watch to apologize to Jesus if you watch
- 31:24Speaker 1: this episode, every one of her lines is a punchline,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's always they're always dried by, she's always
- 31:30Speaker 2: walking by.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Every one of them. Yeah, she crushes it every time.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And what about we need to get her on the show.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Oh we should, Well, we'll bit full up with guests.
- 31:40Speaker 2: But season two, Aloma, right here we go. Joelle put
- 31:43Speaker 2: it in the notes, please you pull out your booty
- 31:47Speaker 2: at twelve forty eight.
- 31:49Speaker 4: I do.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And it's to show what what is it to show?
- 31:53Speaker 1: It's to show you what they love, you know what
- 31:56Speaker 1: I mean.
- 31:56Speaker 2: So what you're saying and with Turk and you are
- 31:59Speaker 2: both saying, is when all else fails, you just do
- 32:03Speaker 2: the slow sag down and the woman see your juicy
- 32:06Speaker 2: shelf butt. Yeah, and they're sold. They're sold.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something right now. Yeah, women aren't
- 32:14Speaker 1: the only ones that can have a nice booty.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Okay, right, yeah, go ahead.
- 32:19Speaker 1: That's for real, for real.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So are you feeling yourself when it comes to you?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Like when you're in the mirror and you check yourself out,
- 32:25Speaker 2: You're like, look at my ass.
- 32:27Speaker 1: No, it's a different ass. Now, it's got a lot
- 32:28Speaker 1: of it's got a lot of wrinkles and sell.
- 32:30Speaker 2: You like, oh, now, maybe you should do some squats.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Squat a lot. It doesn't look like it did when
- 32:36Speaker 1: I was twenty six when we made this show list.
- 32:39Speaker 2: We could do lunges. You could do lunges.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I do all of that, Zach.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Though, there's no reason why a forty six year old
- 32:44Speaker 2: man can't have a tight ass.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna explain something to you right now.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Don't blame it on your age. Joel's falling off her chair,
- 32:51Speaker 2: that is. That is not an excuse for you. Man.
- 32:54Speaker 2: You can do lunges.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna explain something to you right now. With age
- 32:58Speaker 1: comes sag, and you can work out as much.
- 33:01Speaker 2: As you look at Johnny C the other day on Zoom.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You don't think Johnny C got a little bit of
- 33:06Speaker 1: sag in him?
- 33:06Speaker 2: No, I bet you he's tight as fucking hell. Mutton,
- 33:10Speaker 2: it looks like Mutton bounce a quarter off his abs. Yeah, Mutton.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I think that was a firm like Mutton.
- 33:16Speaker 4: That was that was That was me.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I don't even know if Mutton's ferm It just sounded funny.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I think Mutton is like supposed to be like very tender.
- 33:24Speaker 2: What is mutton? It's lamb.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's lamb. I think it's supposed to be very
- 33:28Speaker 1: very tender when it's tender, but to go it's firm
- 33:32Speaker 1: like mutton.
- 33:33Speaker 2: It just sounded funny. I think I stoled it from
- 33:37Speaker 2: Princess Briding. Is when the mutton is lean, you remember.
- 33:40Speaker 1: That Crystal Crystal something except for like a mutton lettuce
- 33:46Speaker 1: and tomato sandwich.
- 33:47Speaker 2: When the mutton is lean.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Do you remember meeting Billy Crystal?
- 33:53Speaker 6: Uh?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Yeah, where and were on a plane and we were traveling.
- 33:58Speaker 1: It was me, you can. I don't know where we
- 34:02Speaker 1: were going, but we were on a plane and we
- 34:03Speaker 1: sat with Billy Crystal the whole trip. And then we
- 34:06Speaker 1: saw him at the hotel too.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Did we bother him? I think it was. It was Hawaii, know,
- 34:11Speaker 2: it had to.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Be Hawaii, and we were all. He was just as
- 34:14Speaker 1: much into us as we were into him. He was
- 34:16Speaker 1: very much into you and you were very much into him.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 2: He was very complimentary of me, and that made me
- 34:22Speaker 2: feel good because I love him and I grew up
- 34:24Speaker 2: on him like we all did. And uh yeah, Mutton
- 34:28Speaker 2: from Princess.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Brian Mutton from Princess Bride.
- 34:30Speaker 2: When the mutton is have fun, how fun? Storm the castle?
- 34:34Speaker 1: The castle?
- 34:34Speaker 2: You think it'll work?
- 34:35Speaker 7: It would take a miracle, right, he said, too Blade,
- 34:42Speaker 7: which we all know is true love liar.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Great movie.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Speaking of crushes, Robin Wright in that movie was just
- 34:53Speaker 2: about the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Yes, I love that movie. That's one of my favorite.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I used to watch that movie all the time. I
- 35:00Speaker 1: remember introducing it to my friends in the neighborhood who
- 35:04Speaker 1: didn't see the movie and being like, you guys, haven't
- 35:06Speaker 1: seen The Princess Bride. I remember having a movie night
- 35:09Speaker 1: at my house just so my friends who had never
- 35:12Speaker 1: been introduced to The Princess Bride could watch The Princess
- 35:15Speaker 1: Bride and we watched it on VHS, obviously in my room,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and I remember getting just such joy out of watching
- 35:24Speaker 1: my friends laugh so hard at something that was like
- 35:28Speaker 1: it was, It wasn't something that they would have gone
- 35:29Speaker 1: to see normally, you know, right.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Did you think you did that more often because you
- 35:33Speaker 2: were dialed into all the theater world where you were
- 35:36Speaker 2: there other times where you were introducing your friend group
- 35:38Speaker 2: to movies they might not have seen.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that happened a lot. Actually, you know some of
- 35:43Speaker 1: the movie. You know, I grew up with a bunch
- 35:45Speaker 1: of people who loved movies, though too so some of
- 35:47Speaker 1: the movies that I was introduced to, you know, at
- 35:51Speaker 1: a young age, like a lot of the horror movies
- 35:54Speaker 1: and stuff like. I had a lot of friends who
- 35:56Speaker 1: loved horror movies growing up, and I have an appreciation
- 35:58Speaker 1: for them. I don't watch them, but things like A
- 36:01Speaker 1: Nightmare on elm Street I would have never seen if
- 36:03Speaker 1: it wasn't for Jessica Mercado, you know what I mean. Like,
- 36:06Speaker 1: and you know Jessica, you've met her a couple of times.
- 36:09Speaker 1: If it wasn't for her, a lot of the horror
- 36:11Speaker 1: movies that I that I watch now when I don't
- 36:14Speaker 1: watch them, but that I watched as a youth, I
- 36:17Speaker 1: would have never seen them, and I would have never
- 36:18Speaker 1: known about that genre like the way I know it now.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And I was thinking just randomly, my father. Back when
- 36:27Speaker 2: before I was introduced to the world of independent cinema,
- 36:30Speaker 2: I didn't know that there were movies that didn't come
- 36:33Speaker 2: to every theater. And a movie came out called The
- 36:36Speaker 2: Gods Must Be Crazy, Remember the Masterpiece and this did
- 36:41Speaker 2: not come to you know, South Orange, New Jersey, and
- 36:44Speaker 2: my father said, we're gonna go into New York to
- 36:46Speaker 2: see a movie. And I was like, why are we
- 36:48Speaker 2: going to New York to see a movie? And he said, well,
- 36:50Speaker 2: not all movies come to our town, and there's a
- 36:51Speaker 2: movie that everyone's talking about we're gonna go see. So
- 36:53Speaker 2: he took me a little independent cinema in Manhattan and
- 36:56Speaker 2: we saw that movie, which I believe was a South
- 36:59Speaker 2: African movie.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Where the coke bottle fall falls from the sky.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, And it was one of the funniest, most
- 37:06Speaker 2: brilliant movies I'd ever seen, and it was it'steroally good
- 37:10Speaker 2: memory of my father introducing me to an early version
- 37:15Speaker 2: of independent cinema.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Did you ever see a Brother from Another Planet? The
- 37:18Speaker 1: Brother from Another Planet? Oh No, if you ever get
- 37:21Speaker 1: a chance, go see that one.
- 37:22Speaker 2: That's what we're giving. We're giving our listeners quite a
- 37:25Speaker 2: good list of movies this this this podcast.
- 37:28Speaker 1: There's some good ones out there, guys. Listen. If you
- 37:30Speaker 1: get a chance, go see a Brother from Another Planet.
- 37:32Speaker 1: It stars Joe Morton, Okay, and he literally is a
- 37:36Speaker 1: Brother from another planet, The Brother from another Planet.
- 37:39Speaker 4: And what.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I remember one scene when I was a kid, so
- 37:42Speaker 1: before Harlem was gentrified, which is very much now. You know,
- 37:46Speaker 1: all the white people used to get off at ninety
- 37:48Speaker 1: sixth Street if you were on the train, right, no
- 37:51Speaker 1: matter what line you were on, if there was a
- 37:52Speaker 1: ninety sixth Street stop, all the white people would get
- 37:55Speaker 1: off because after that you were in Harlem.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 37:57Speaker 1: So there's this dude it off right, There's this dude
- 38:00Speaker 1: on the train doing like tricks or something like that,
- 38:03Speaker 1: doing magic, and the brother from another planet. He doesn't
- 38:06Speaker 1: speak that much, you know, he doesn't speak English or
- 38:08Speaker 1: anything like that. You know, when people ask him where
- 38:10Speaker 1: he came from, he just points to the sky. And
- 38:13Speaker 1: so the dude's trying to do all these tricks and
- 38:15Speaker 1: the brother's just not feeling it. And then finally he goes.
- 38:19Speaker 1: You know, you hear the conductor say next stop, ninety
- 38:21Speaker 1: sixth street, and the white guy says to the brother,
- 38:24Speaker 1: he goes, you want to see me make all the
- 38:26Speaker 1: white people disappear, and everyone gets off at nineties. All
- 38:31Speaker 1: the white people get off at ninety sixth Street. And
- 38:33Speaker 1: I remember as a kid, I used to I remember
- 38:36Speaker 1: getting on the train and getting I was very young
- 38:39Speaker 1: when the movie came out, and at ninety sixth Street.
- 38:42Speaker 1: If you were going downtown, all the white people got
- 38:44Speaker 1: on at ninety sixth Street. If you were going uptown,
- 38:47Speaker 1: all the white people got off at ninety sixth Street.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I remember this very much as a youth man. Wow,
- 38:53Speaker 1: so crazy, Johnny joke.
- 38:56Speaker 4: I gotta see that.
- 38:57Speaker 2: You've just sold it to me. Donald, I'm watching it
- 38:59Speaker 2: if you get it.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Joe Morton brother from another planet.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I was laughing at thirteen fifty and then in the
- 39:04Speaker 2: fantasy where I'm teaching DJ Qualls to ride a bike,
- 39:07Speaker 2: because I was laughing, going, I'm spoofing me at the
- 39:12Speaker 2: age I am now right right, that character I'm playing
- 39:16Speaker 2: is probably like a forty five year old dad, like
- 39:18Speaker 2: you got.
- 39:18Speaker 1: This right, pushing his kid along. It's also it also
- 39:23Speaker 1: goes back to now you're doctor Cox, and it goes
- 39:28Speaker 1: to the grainy shot of you teaching the kid how
- 39:30Speaker 1: to ride a bike, where he's teaching you how to
- 39:32Speaker 1: throw a baseball. Yeah, then we do that one, you
- 39:34Speaker 1: know what I mean early on, so it's full circle
- 39:38Speaker 1: we do.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I'm trying to be Cox. I summon
- 39:41Speaker 2: my inner doctor Cox in this episode so much so
- 39:43Speaker 2: that we mirror the pilot where I where he fought.
- 39:46Speaker 2: DJ's character finally has a moment of success and I go,
- 39:50Speaker 2: I cheer him on, and then he leaves. And then
- 39:52Speaker 2: and then Judy says, go ahead, and I put my
- 39:54Speaker 2: arms up in celebration, just like the pilot.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Right, and then You're like, can you fix that for
- 39:58Speaker 1: me while I'm gone.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's funny. I gave him a pep talk and
- 40:01Speaker 2: then he still fucked it up.
- 40:05Speaker 1: He never comes back. That's what's crazy. He never came
- 40:07Speaker 1: back after this episode.
- 40:08Speaker 2: We none of them do other than other than the
- 40:11Speaker 2: love interest then Kelly the love interest. None of these
- 40:15Speaker 2: characters came back. Yeah, I think DJ calls it them.
- 40:18Speaker 2: At the time, you know, his career was on fire
- 40:20Speaker 2: and he was just kind of coming by to do
- 40:23Speaker 2: a quick guest star role.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Then you convinced Johnny C to show his ass, right, and.
- 40:32Speaker 1: John C has a nice ass. I'm not gonna lie,
- 40:34Speaker 1: but it just didn't fit the character.
- 40:37Speaker 2: So you like Johnny C's ass.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Though.
- 40:39Speaker 1: It's not that I like Johnny C's ass, It's just
- 40:41Speaker 1: that you know, when you work out that much, right,
- 40:44Speaker 1: I mean, you could bounce it. You could. John C
- 40:46Speaker 1: used to say that shit, you could bounce a quarter
- 40:48Speaker 1: off his ass.
- 40:49Speaker 2: You know that, you know that Johnny C is not
- 40:51Speaker 2: the kind of guy who skips leg an ass day.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Hell no, you know he doesn't. You know for a
- 40:56Speaker 1: fact he does, right, he got this look.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Man.
- 40:59Speaker 1: When I started getting serious about working out, I remember
- 41:02Speaker 1: getting a text or call from Johnny C. I was
- 41:05Speaker 1: doing the Santa Monica stairs and I guess he drove
- 41:08Speaker 1: by because uh Santa Monica and uh Malibu are very
- 41:13Speaker 1: close to each other. And I remember getting the call, Donald,
- 41:18Speaker 1: have you taken your workout to the next level? Did
- 41:21Speaker 1: I just drive by the Santa Monica stairs and see
- 41:24Speaker 1: you going up the Santa Monica stairs. I'm very proud
- 41:27Speaker 1: of you, Donald, I'm very very proud of you. You
- 41:30Speaker 1: gotta work the legs. You gotta work the legs.
- 41:33Speaker 2: But Johnny C told me that he listens to our
- 41:36Speaker 2: podcast as he's working out Tuesday and Thursday morning. So Johnny,
- 41:39Speaker 2: if you're listening to this, don't skip those squads, buddy,
- 41:42Speaker 2: keep you No, he doesn't keep going as keep that
- 41:45Speaker 2: ass firm, Johnny, do a couple more reps.
- 41:47Speaker 1: You could bounce a quarter off of it.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Yeah, can you still bounce a quarter of Johnny? Or
- 41:51Speaker 2: is it now just a penny?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Solely?
- 41:54Speaker 2: A penny will bounce.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Alsoss. When I saw the pants drop, I thought clueless
- 42:02Speaker 1: right away.
- 42:04Speaker 2: What is it with the pants load thing?
- 42:06Speaker 1: Okay, so this is where it's a cultural thing. So
- 42:10Speaker 1: in prison, they don't give you a belt, they don't
- 42:12Speaker 1: give you shoelaces because they're afraid that people will hang
- 42:15Speaker 1: themselves in their cells and stuff like that or use
- 42:18Speaker 1: it as a weapon. Right, So you have a bunch
- 42:21Speaker 1: of people in prison walking around with their pants sagging
- 42:25Speaker 1: and their shoes not necessarily you know, flipping flip flopping
- 42:29Speaker 1: off their feet. So when we did Clueless, this had
- 42:34Speaker 1: been become a fashion statement in the inner city. So
- 42:37Speaker 1: like a lot of youth in the inner city were
- 42:40Speaker 1: wearing their pants sagging, just copying what they saw from
- 42:44Speaker 1: the ogs, you know.
- 42:45Speaker 4: What I mean.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And so this became this became a thing, and uh did.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the FAD's gone away, right or no,
- 42:53Speaker 2: do you still still see people doing it?
- 42:55Speaker 1: Well, I'm an adult now, I still see it. I'm
- 42:57Speaker 1: an adult now, I'm a grown man now. So I
- 43:00Speaker 1: I prefer if you were to pick, I don't want
- 43:01Speaker 1: to see your underwear. But when I was a youth,
- 43:05Speaker 1: I was like, oh shit, this you know this is
- 43:07Speaker 1: I did it all the time.
- 43:08Speaker 2: So I know from an adult point of view though,
- 43:11Speaker 2: it's a pretty ridiculous style.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Absolutely, But you have to be an adult to be like,
- 43:16Speaker 1: I don't like that style, of course, But a kid,
- 43:18Speaker 1: you're like, look at all the OG's did it?
- 43:20Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 43:23Speaker 2: Like you did it, of course, And I'm sure that
- 43:25Speaker 2: I subscribe to some style that I would think is ridiculous.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Now very low V.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Nex dude, I've seen you with your pants sagging low too.
- 43:33Speaker 2: So you can't not like your character did in this show.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Dude.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Well, no, not like that, but I've seen it.
- 43:39Speaker 2: But I had some embarrassingly low V necks, did you really? Yeah,
- 43:43Speaker 2: I went through a low V neck phase.
- 43:46Speaker 1: You like a V neck, dide you?
- 43:47Speaker 2: Well, now you can't because there's certain things that I
- 43:50Speaker 2: used to do. A cargo shorts, I guess are done.
- 43:52Speaker 2: My girlfriend said, no way to you, fucking can I
- 43:54Speaker 2: wear those cargo shorts?
- 43:56Speaker 4: You know?
- 43:56Speaker 1: When I wear cargo shorts when I go to play golf.
- 43:58Speaker 1: That's it.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I think most women, and Joelle, if you wouldn't mind
- 44:02Speaker 2: speaking on behalf of all women in the world are pretty?
- 44:06Speaker 2: Are pretty over cargo shorts?
- 44:08Speaker 1: They're not. They're not attractive on anybody.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So yo, daggy leg.
- 44:14Speaker 1: This is when you knew cargo shorts was a wrap.
- 44:17Speaker 1: When Adam Sandler stopped wearing cargo shorts, you knew. Okay,
- 44:20Speaker 1: I guess cargo shorts is over.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Well, it's funny, it was for years. It was like,
- 44:24Speaker 2: I don't know if the Grip and Electric guys are
- 44:26Speaker 2: still wearing them, but that was the go to uniform,
- 44:29Speaker 2: was cargo shorts, right, even in freezing weather. Yeah. And
- 44:32Speaker 2: I had a bunch of them, and I recently tried
- 44:34Speaker 2: to pull out a bunch and h and showed Flow
- 44:39Speaker 2: and she said, you have to take those off immediately.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I agree, So they're done. But I can't get I
- 44:45Speaker 2: can't throw them away. I feel, do you have stuff
- 44:47Speaker 2: in your closet you cannot wear anymore? But well, obviously
- 44:50Speaker 2: we're looking at your closet, but you cannot wear anymore.
- 44:52Speaker 2: You're like, I can't wear those anymore, but you just
- 44:53Speaker 2: can't throw them away. You have nostalgia for them.
- 44:55Speaker 1: They might come back too.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'll be I'll be fucking locked and loaded
- 44:59Speaker 2: when cargo shorts come back. All right, do we need
- 45:01Speaker 2: to take a break, Joel or what We're gonna take
- 45:03Speaker 2: a break, and when we come back, we're gonna have
- 45:04Speaker 2: a fan caller. Enjoy these beautiful words.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Dude, you can make that.
- 45:20Speaker 2: We used to Donald and I used to make this
- 45:22Speaker 2: noise whenever Sarah was like it was like late and
- 45:25Speaker 2: we were all going stir crazy, we'd go and it
- 45:29Speaker 2: would crack. It would crack her up, and no one
- 45:32Speaker 2: could hear it, Like the director or the producer of Randall,
- 45:34Speaker 2: no one could hear that we were doing it. And
- 45:36Speaker 2: she'd be like, stop doing that, and she'd be cracking out.
- 45:38Speaker 1: What are you talking about.
- 45:39Speaker 2: We'd be like, Sarah, everyone's tired, they want to go home.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Stop sucking up. And then she start her line and
- 45:44Speaker 2: we go, oh, I missed that crazy girl.
- 45:51Speaker 4: She's coming.
- 45:52Speaker 2: She's coming on when when Joelle Friday right, Friday's Christa,
- 45:57Speaker 2: oh yeah, next week, we got up. We got uh
- 46:00Speaker 2: Sarah Chalk the legendary Canadian. All right, BJ Mendelsh Okay.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Before we get into BJ Mendelssohn, I'm just gonna say
- 46:07Speaker 1: this out loud. A lot of people are getting pissed
- 46:10Speaker 1: off at my Oprah ship. Why because some people are
- 46:14Speaker 1: mad that I'm saying doing the Oprah stuff now.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Funk that you're reading too many comments.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Dude, I know I told you in the beginning of
- 46:20Speaker 1: a shit you're doing two deep of dives.
- 46:23Speaker 2: You're doing two deep dives. I engage with a little,
- 46:27Speaker 2: I engage a little, especially with the nice people, and
- 46:30Speaker 2: then you just dismount. You're like, you're like getting in
- 46:32Speaker 2: your head. Oh, your Oprah voice is one of the
- 46:34Speaker 2: reasons I come to work every day.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Well, in that case, give it up for Bj Mendelssigny.
- 46:45Speaker 4: I didn't know this was gonna be like a video thing,
- 46:47Speaker 4: so I'm like wearing my trash your shirt.
- 46:49Speaker 2: You look great. We're gonna apologize to our listeners that
- 46:55Speaker 2: BJ doesn't have the ideal the ideal setup because he
- 46:59Speaker 2: has a microphone that's a little wacky. But we're gonna
- 47:01Speaker 2: fix it in post. Are you a dan?
- 47:04Speaker 4: I am?
- 47:05Speaker 1: That's what that is?
- 47:05Speaker 2: What do you play? What do you play?
- 47:07Speaker 4: Bad God? I'm embarrassed to say Fortnite and I can
- 47:14Speaker 4: tell you it was my nieces and nephew. That that
- 47:16Speaker 4: got me into it because I.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Ask you a question. Do you default dance?
- 47:21Speaker 4: I do?
- 47:22Speaker 2: Okay, do you use Donald's sunt dance?
- 47:25Speaker 1: That's the default dance?
- 47:26Speaker 2: Okay? Sorry? Now, now why are you embarrassed? B I
- 47:30Speaker 2: don't really know much about gaming these days. Is this
- 47:32Speaker 2: Fortnite just meant for children?
- 47:34Speaker 1: No?
- 47:36Speaker 2: Then why is he embarrassed about it?
- 47:38Speaker 1: Because I've made a big stink about how much I
- 47:40Speaker 1: do not like Fortnite because they stole my dance. But
- 47:43Speaker 1: I don't give a ship. To be honest with you,
- 47:45Speaker 1: I'm very, very very I'm very very happy that they
- 47:49Speaker 1: stole my dance.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I think you were I think you were misquoted when
- 47:52Speaker 2: you caused a little controversy. You were sort of joke.
- 47:54Speaker 2: You were sort of joking. And then there were people
- 47:57Speaker 2: who were like, if they take off that dance because
- 47:59Speaker 2: of you, fuck you dude.
- 48:01Speaker 1: They was I I've never had more twelve year old
- 48:04Speaker 1: boys mad at me in my life.
- 48:06Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, well you threatened to take away their dance.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I didn't threaten. All I did was said. All I
- 48:11Speaker 1: did was say, you know, they jacked it, and then
- 48:14Speaker 1: out of nowhere, like it was a bunch of kids
- 48:16Speaker 1: like fuck you. You has been it's because nobody watches
- 48:19Speaker 1: your shit anymore. You suck anyway. It's because you didn't
- 48:24Speaker 1: get any money making scrubs. You didn't get any money making.
- 48:27Speaker 2: They got They got all riled up because you made
- 48:30Speaker 2: a joke about the Fortnite dance.
- 48:32Speaker 1: And I'm fine with that, you know what I mean.
- 48:33Speaker 1: And and I'm fine with it being the default dance.
- 48:36Speaker 2: What are the other dances that DJ could use?
- 48:39Speaker 1: Well, there's the backpack Kids one where it's like, oh yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: backpack kid, and then you need to pay more money
- 48:44Speaker 1: for that.
- 48:45Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know if that's something you
- 48:47Speaker 4: want locking on. I'm still new to it.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I am still like, as long as you do the
- 48:52Speaker 1: Turk dance, it's all good.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Do you find yourself djal in Fortnite? Do you talk
- 48:59Speaker 2: to other people?
- 49:00Speaker 4: No? I try not to. That was my big thing
- 49:03Speaker 4: was I'm kind of just you know, I'm an author,
- 49:05Speaker 4: so I don't socialize well with others. So playing like
- 49:09Speaker 4: these online games where people are talking shit to you
- 49:12Speaker 4: is like a new experience for me, especially when you're
- 49:14Speaker 4: thirty seven and have never played these things in your life.
- 49:17Speaker 2: So do you do you choose to not engage with
- 49:19Speaker 2: angry twelve year olds? I try not to. Okay, it's
- 49:22Speaker 2: probably good, it's probably good. I think I would get upset,
- 49:25Speaker 2: and I think personally if I did, i'd if somebody
- 49:27Speaker 2: was like, fuck your mother, and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I'm just trying to fucking save the world here, everybody
- 49:31Speaker 2: comment right.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Exactly the worst thing in the world to hear a
- 49:34Speaker 1: kid yelling at you trash.
- 49:36Speaker 2: PEV pe me, peev, pay.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Me, payv pay me?
- 49:41Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 49:41Speaker 1: PvP me like play me, like versus just on one. Okay,
- 49:47Speaker 1: play your first player BJ.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Do you play any other games besides Fortninite?
- 49:50Speaker 4: Or is this year right now? It's File Fantasy seven?
- 49:54Speaker 1: Oh you're a role player? Hold on, I did you
- 49:57Speaker 1: play Dungeon and Dragons grown up?
- 50:00Speaker 4: No? I was in Magic the Gathering Kids, same shiit,
- 50:02Speaker 4: same shit. Yeah, it is it's true.
- 50:06Speaker 1: That's cards though.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that difference.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Got very addicted to the Star Wars role playing game.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Donal What was that when you?
- 50:14Speaker 4: I remember that?
- 50:15Speaker 1: Yeah? When I was it was the Star Wars game.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I don't remember what it was called, but there were
- 50:19Speaker 1: a bunch of different ones. I even DMD it.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Oh my god, Jedi Fallen Order, Donald is no, no, no.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Jedi Fallen Order is a video game. We used to
- 50:28Speaker 1: play it like it was Dungeons and Dragon.
- 50:31Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, that's not what I mean. Okay,
- 50:32Speaker 2: but I'm talking about in our adulthood during the time
- 50:35Speaker 2: of Scrubs, you were playing.
- 50:37Speaker 1: A Star Wars Galaxies. Yeah, Star Wars Galaxies when that
- 50:42Speaker 1: came out. I remember that game. I wish they didn't
- 50:45Speaker 1: cancel it because look, it started off just as a
- 50:48Speaker 1: role playing game that you would play on different planets,
- 50:51Speaker 1: and then they introduced being able to fly in ships, right,
- 50:55Speaker 1: And I remember at one point I got to talk
- 50:58Speaker 1: to one of the head developers of the game, and
- 51:02Speaker 1: I was like, you should make it so that you
- 51:04Speaker 1: could jump in ships on the ground and fly in
- 51:07Speaker 1: atmosphere and then from atmosphere take it to space. And
- 51:11Speaker 1: then the game freaking failed eventually.
- 51:13Speaker 2: But how can a Star Wars game fail? It just
- 51:16Speaker 2: doesn't seem like it's possible it.
- 51:18Speaker 1: You know, you change it enough times and then people
- 51:20Speaker 1: lose interest. You know. What happens is is that it
- 51:24Speaker 1: starts off and it's pure and then you start adding things.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And once you start adding things, you know, people lose
- 51:31Speaker 1: interest after a while, you know. Perfect example, George Lucas
- 51:38Speaker 1: with the original series, with the original trilogy, it was
- 51:44Speaker 1: you know, it was shot a certain way and he
- 51:47Speaker 1: wasn't happy with it, so he started adding things, and
- 51:50Speaker 1: the more he added, it seemed like the more fans
- 51:53Speaker 1: were like, I don't like that. I don't like that.
- 51:54Speaker 1: You don't need to add now. For me, I like
- 51:58Speaker 1: the adding. I liked that he added things because it
- 52:00Speaker 1: made it cleaner, and it made it faster, and it
- 52:02Speaker 1: made it you know, if you watch the original or
- 52:05Speaker 1: New Hope, it's not as the special effects in it
- 52:10Speaker 1: aren't as glorious as they are now when you watch
- 52:14Speaker 1: it on Disney. Plus that being said, there are a
- 52:19Speaker 1: lot of people that don't like that, do not like
- 52:22Speaker 1: him going and retouching. I for one, do like the
- 52:25Speaker 1: retouch I think I think there are certain movies that
- 52:29Speaker 1: still like. People got mad when they retouched et you
- 52:32Speaker 1: know what I mean. I, for one, wasn't that mad
- 52:36Speaker 1: at it.
- 52:37Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest, all right, Well, we should probably
- 52:39Speaker 2: ask BJ some of his thoughts.
- 52:41Speaker 4: This is a rarity. I usually everyone I encounter hates
- 52:45Speaker 4: the touch ups to the original trilogy. I don't mind
- 52:47Speaker 4: them at all. The only one that I freak out
- 52:49Speaker 4: about is the one everyone freaks out about with Grito's
- 52:52Speaker 4: shooting first.
- 52:53Speaker 2: Right, that's bullshit, come on, yeah right, like that's the
- 52:55Speaker 2: old the rest of it.
- 52:56Speaker 4: I really I remember getting in line at the theater
- 52:58Speaker 4: when they really at least because for me, I wasn't
- 53:01Speaker 4: old enough pretty original Star Wars.
- 53:03Speaker 1: So when they you're pretty close to it though, right,
- 53:05Speaker 1: you said your thirties, I just.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I just turned thirty seven, so nine years younger
- 53:09Speaker 2: than us or so.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Yeah. So my like, my first Star Wars is The
- 53:12Speaker 4: Phantom Menace, which is I'm ashamed to say that loud.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Dude, you shouldn't be because the Phantom Menace has new
- 53:19Speaker 1: energy behind it thanks to Dave Filoni.
- 53:21Speaker 4: But okay, true, true, and plus it had the great
- 53:24Speaker 4: odd Racing End sixty four game, right, which was amazing.
- 53:29Speaker 4: But I liked all the touch ups at the ad
- 53:31Speaker 4: because to me, it was like, all right, it looks
- 53:33Speaker 4: like everything else. Because when I remember watching on VHS,
- 53:36Speaker 4: I kind of fell asleep, right because it didn't look
- 53:38Speaker 4: you know, when I was little, it didn't look as
- 53:40Speaker 4: crisp as some of the other things that I was
- 53:42Speaker 4: used to seeing at that age.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Right, where do you live, BJ, I'm.
- 53:46Speaker 4: Up in Monroe, New York, which is if anyone knows
- 53:48Speaker 4: where Woodberry Commons is, it's a large tourist trap.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Okay, you're a writer, are you? Are you a novelist?
- 53:55Speaker 4: Yeah? So I'm the author of a book called Social
- 53:57Speaker 4: Media's Bullshit. Ah, I wrote didn't playing twelve, so I
- 54:00Speaker 4: was a little ahead of its time. I'm happy to
- 54:02Speaker 4: give it away for free if anyone wants a free copy.
- 54:05Speaker 4: All the up, dude is just hit me up on Twitter.
- 54:07Speaker 4: It's like I said, it's an older book.
- 54:08Speaker 2: Ironically, they're gonna have to hit you up on social media.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Right. So that was the thing that was the thing
- 54:12Speaker 4: that I got a lot when it came out, was
- 54:15Speaker 4: it was like, oh, hey, well, you know you've got
- 54:16Speaker 4: this big presence on Twitter, but you social media's bullshit?
- 54:19Speaker 4: And when I said, people was it not the tools?
- 54:21Speaker 4: That's how you use it, and that's the part that
- 54:24Speaker 4: where you run into all this bullshit.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Bid Jay, I feel like you'd be a guest that
- 54:28Speaker 1: we could just talk to for hours about.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Yeah, as long as you guys don't go down the
- 54:32Speaker 2: Star Wars read every fucking five minutes. Because I see
- 54:35Speaker 2: I see Joelle like nodding again, like she's like as
- 54:38Speaker 2: though she's yelling preach when you guys start to talk.
- 54:41Speaker 2: So yeah, she's got her hand up in the air
- 54:43Speaker 2: like you preach. I gotta tell you, I gotta tell
- 54:46Speaker 2: you for they it's scrubgure. Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 4: Please, I have never felt so old and now yo,
- 54:53Speaker 4: knowing that you guys older and I am, I can
- 54:55Speaker 4: only mention how you get feel. I was pitching this
- 54:58Speaker 4: TV show and I can't, you know, can't say too
- 55:00Speaker 4: much about it.
- 55:01Speaker 2: But what I can't say is that it's about the
- 55:02Speaker 2: six million dollars man, because we just pitched it live
- 55:04Speaker 2: on this show. So don't steal that, all right, get.
- 55:06Speaker 4: It totally should be. It totally should be. That it's
- 55:09Speaker 4: due for a remake, although with inflation, I think you
- 55:11Speaker 4: might have to adjust it slightly.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we said that. We said you wouldn't get very
- 55:15Speaker 2: farward rebuilding him for six maybe his feet, yeah, you
- 55:18Speaker 2: would get the feet maybe like the decaps. He would
- 55:21Speaker 2: just fall over a lot.
- 55:22Speaker 4: So but this kid, the kid, the kid that would
- 55:25Speaker 4: start in the show is only like twenty and twenty one,
- 55:27Speaker 4: and so as I was going through it with him
- 55:29Speaker 4: and explaining, like the look and it feels like, you know,
- 55:31Speaker 4: it's a lot like Scrub season one and Scrub season eight,
- 55:34Speaker 4: where it's a little goofy, but it's also got like
- 55:37Speaker 4: a little bit of darkness to it. And he was
- 55:40Speaker 4: humoring me. He's like, oh, yeah, yeah, I remember Scrubs.
- 55:42Speaker 4: And then like got off the phone and producer cls
- 55:45Speaker 4: and went back and he's like, he has no idea
- 55:46Speaker 4: what the fuck Scrubs it? Like, what's like what Scrubs
- 55:49Speaker 4: was on?
- 55:49Speaker 1: He was maybe two, And for me, is this kid
- 55:54Speaker 1: a successful actor?
- 55:56Speaker 4: He is a successful TikTok star? Oh wow, yeah right,
- 56:00Speaker 4: Like yeah, so.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Way, Donald, if TikTok was out when when you were young,
- 56:05Speaker 2: you would have been a TikTok stock because.
- 56:07Speaker 1: You would have been TikTok.
- 56:08Speaker 2: No, but I can't dance like you can do those moves, dude.
- 56:12Speaker 1: No, but you would have figured out a way to
- 56:14Speaker 1: freaking look, man, you did Garden State. You would have
- 56:17Speaker 1: figured out a way to make a fucking movie on
- 56:19Speaker 1: TikTok that everybody loved, even if it was like you know,
- 56:23Speaker 1: only however long TikTok allows it, you would have figured
- 56:26Speaker 1: out a way. You're a very bright boy, Thank you
- 56:28Speaker 1: very bright.
- 56:29Speaker 2: You do you ever see that video of the girl
- 56:31Speaker 2: on TikTok and was like vent viral. She's sobbing, but
- 56:34Speaker 2: she's still doing her TikTok dance in some comedian I forgot.
- 56:39Speaker 2: I don't know who it was, but they were like,
- 56:41Speaker 2: maybe maybe wait until you're done with your breakdown, until
- 56:44Speaker 2: you to do the dance. But she's trying to make
- 56:46Speaker 2: a point that like I'm still gonna dance through this
- 56:49Speaker 2: sad moment, and she's doing all the choreography, but she's bawling.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I've never seen this.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Have you got a BJ Have you seen that I have?
- 56:55Speaker 4: I gotta tell you I tried like hell to avoid
- 56:58Speaker 4: TikTok and snapchat, but it's the nephews. You know, they're
- 57:01Speaker 4: that age group where that's all they're on.
- 57:02Speaker 2: So I don't even look at that.
- 57:03Speaker 1: My daughter, that's all she watches. My daughter, not my
- 57:07Speaker 1: not my not my five year old, but my twenty
- 57:09Speaker 1: one year old just walks through the house dead. You
- 57:11Speaker 1: gotta check this out, and it's nothing but TikTok. Ship
- 57:15Speaker 1: like it's so much. I would get my daughter up,
- 57:18Speaker 1: my five year old up here right now. But my
- 57:20Speaker 1: twenty one year old daughter has corrupted Kanya has corrupted
- 57:23Speaker 1: Wilder so much that Wilder is now doing the Savage challenge.
- 57:28Speaker 1: I'm a savage, classy bougie ratchet it.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Can you get her up here? We got to hear it.
- 57:36Speaker 4: Hold up.
- 57:39Speaker 2: That Wilder, this is this might be worth it. BJ
- 57:46Speaker 2: You're about to get a special.
- 57:47Speaker 4: So it's good.
- 57:48Speaker 2: She's warming up because she used to she used to know.
- 57:50Speaker 2: She used to not perform on cue. But we're we're
- 57:54Speaker 2: gonna turn her into a We're gonna turn her into
- 57:55Speaker 2: a child actress. If it's the death of us.
- 57:57Speaker 4: That's that's fantastic. I have to tell you so, just
- 58:01Speaker 4: real quick. The Garden State soundtrack for my college radio
- 58:04Speaker 4: station was all that they would play when it came out,
- 58:07Speaker 4: so I just I would I feel obligated to share
- 58:10Speaker 4: that with you. Oh, thank you, wait for tell to
- 58:12Speaker 4: come back.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah.
- 58:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:15Speaker 2: It was Donald jokes that I want to Grammy for
- 58:18Speaker 2: a mixtape, but he's right. It was just the music
- 58:20Speaker 2: I was, me and my friends were listening to, and
- 58:22Speaker 2: it felt really appropriate. For the for the era that
- 58:25Speaker 2: the film was about, and then uh, with the help
- 58:28Speaker 2: of my editor Myron Kirstein. He really gets all the
- 58:32Speaker 2: credit for putting them in the right spots. He I made.
- 58:35Speaker 2: I just made a giant playlist, and then I'd let
- 58:38Speaker 2: him go attack some scenes and then he'd come back
- 58:40Speaker 2: and he'd go, Dude, I've just put the Paul Simon
- 58:43Speaker 2: song on this moment, and you got to see it.
- 58:45Speaker 2: And I would watch it and get goosebumps uping down
- 58:47Speaker 2: my arms, like, yeah, we're never gonna be able to
- 58:49Speaker 2: get that song. But that's a keeper.
- 58:52Speaker 4: Oh here she is.
- 58:54Speaker 2: There's Racoh, there's Roco.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Come on, all right, all right, Wilder perform.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Back up, back up, back up, back up. You don't
- 59:06Speaker 1: need the music, you're just doing it without the music.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Ready, all right?
- 59:09Speaker 1: Go five, six, seven eight.
- 59:12Speaker 6: I'm savash, cassy, who's ratchet, sassy, nasty, hackinghan, I'm.
- 59:24Speaker 2: Savash thunderous applause, dam.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Are you kidding me?
- 59:32Speaker 4: All right?
- 59:34Speaker 1: Okay, so now I got Look, I'm gonna show you
- 59:36Speaker 1: who's all in here. Now. I got the whole family
- 59:38Speaker 1: in here, just to see hurt.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Everybody's here. I'm okay rock okay, all right, all right,
- 59:49Speaker 2: get him out, pull him out.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Back to the bouncy you guys wet this whole room up. Huh.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Back to the bouncy castle.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: They're there there.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I don't I don't know this song, but it doesn't
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: seem that it's necessarily appropriate for a five year old
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: to sing one of the.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Lyrics twenty one year old, who's who's watching TikTok like
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: twenty four to seven and so because.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Of that, But can you talk me through the lyrics
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: of this this song?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: It's it's Meg the Stallion, right, and she now has
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: a remix with her and Beyonce. Okay, baonce as how
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: would say?
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Rest in peace my father?
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: And uh the chorus is I'm a savage. Uh uh?
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: What is it? I'm a savage? See classy bougie ratchet? Uh?
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Now what does ratchet mean?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Ratchet is like when you're like, that's ratchet, You're ratchet?
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Isn't necessary?
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Joelle is typing out the lyrics for you. Donald say naddy.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Nasty, moody, nasty, act think stupid?
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: What's happening?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: What's happening?
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: I don't know how I feel about my little goddaughter
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: saying sassy, maddy.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Nasty, moody, moody, moody.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Oh sorry, well it's Joelle's typo, not mine. I thought
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: maddy was a new word.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: No moody, sassy, moody, ratchet, no acting stupid, what's happening.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Savage, classy, bougie ratchet.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: DJ's like, what did I get into?
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: This is like we forgot about question?
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: This is exactly what I'm going through right now. Like,
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: so we hit this song well life Olivia, she's five,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: is really into it, and you know, the lyrics are
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: probably not terribly appropriate for a five year old, so
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: we had to like immend it and say no, no,
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: this song is called a Little Light. So I know
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: this whole thing very well.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Like, BJ, are there any questions you want to J?
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Do you have any questions?
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: So I don't know where to start because just to
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: give people contact, Yeah, it's it's I've got the fan
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: going so hopefully you guys can't hear it too much.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I can't feel the fan, PJ. Can you turn it
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: a little towards.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: So it's just just for context. So going through, Uh
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: so I used to be married and going through we
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: got married, just as the recession started, So we didn't
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: have a lot of stuff, but we did have Scrubs dvidews,
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: so that was pretty much we would watch Did you
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: give him or her?
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: When in the breakup? Did you give him or her?
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Season nine?
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: Uh? I actually like season nine Donald, you do okay?
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: I can't sell you my attentionent Uh, I think it
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: all okay. Great. So I know this has been said
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: elsewhere by other people, like had it had a different title,
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: it would have been been successful. But I think because
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: it was still could Scrubs.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Should have been called Dave Franco. Yeah, there was a
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: little too much Dave Ranco Donald as Screech.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Right, But I like it.
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: It's very solid. You know, the show up really well.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: Season nine holds up. I feel pretty well. Did. There
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: is probably a little too much Dave Franco for me.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: He was like to me, it's more like annoying character.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: He was not right right, But so to me, like
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: the big question I feel like is how do you
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: think the show has has held up? Because today the
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: episode that we were going to talk about, there's a
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: whole sequence with doctor Cox and the and the doctor,
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: the young doctor, and I feel like today I don't
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: know if you'd be able to do that story.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you know, there are a lot of things
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: that don't necessarily uh hold up with what's going on
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: today with the show. You know, Cox calling j D
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: a girl's name all the time might be you know,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: offensive to some Yeah, you could catch offense to that.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Zach and I had a conversation about that. We were like,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: you know what, we know where the show has its
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: moments where we're like, oh boy, but maybe you know,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: if we're if everybody's true fans of the show and
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: was watching it back then and doesn't have a problem
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: didn't have a problem with it back then, I don't
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: necessarily think it behooves us to continue to talk about what,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: you know, the past. You know, it was made at
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: a certain time, you know what I mean. I don't
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: know how to I don't know.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: But but to your point, I don't know that. Uh again,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: who knows that someone might find offense to doctor Cox
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: flirting with a coworker, I don't know. I think it
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: was done in a pretty uh clearly consensual way. She
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: was flirting right back with him, and.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Well, and Turkey says, Turke even says, you know this
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: is highly inappropriate and you shouldn't be doing this. And
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: you know better than this doctor Cox and it and
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: and to the and to his intern. And if you're
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: supposed to say anything to you're supposed to be uh
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: worshiping me and you know the knowledge I have and
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: not chape being love struck with this, you know, senior
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: resident in the hospital.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: For what it's worth. He then doesn't have uh courage
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: or or whatever. And he's still obsessed with Judy, I guess.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: And he walks off and that she that shows up
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: at his door. Do you remember that?
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: No?
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he I think he told I think PJ totally
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: gets it.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: But now I'm saying it to you. She she's the
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: she becomes the aggressor. And then he gets up and
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: says something no man would ever say to a woman.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: He says, uh, I'm using you to get past another person.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: That was fucking nuts that any human being would say
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: that to someone. But then she's like, I don't care,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: let's hook up.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: That's not why I'm here, right.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: Yeah. My whole deal is, you know, you have to
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: look at things with the time that they were produced. Uh,
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: And that doesn't excuse like like really agregious stuff. We
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: had a title come out of Cereal Boxes recently called Knox,
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: which deals with a lot of the HP Lovecraft U
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: you know, like the dark and mysterious tentacles and enemies
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: from other dimensions. And so the way I describe it
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: to people is, you know, it's HP Lovecraft about any
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: of the anti Semitism, like it's taking, it's taking like
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: the best parts of it. And so yo, if you
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: look at his stuff in that context, you can't excuse
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: like the bladant bigotry.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: That's, well, you're you're you said, you're an LGBTQ activist.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: So there's plenty of stuff that I imagine some would
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: find offensive. In nine years of this show, the calling
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: of JD this sort of it was considered derogatory to
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: be called a girl's name. I mean, how does how
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: does something like that?
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: I thought that held up to me. I thought that
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: held because it's within the character that it works. That
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: makes sense that he it's just the characters Dead said
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: on belittling JD in any way that he can and.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: In his mind, in Cox' mind, that was belittling.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Exactly, and was it It didn't come off as like
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: malicious in that he meant it as a anti gy sler,
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: like he just meant it as this I'm just gonna
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: chip you down. I'm just gonna keep chipping away too.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: So I think it really comes from the character. And
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: as long as the character isn't like blatantly racist or something,
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: which is the case at the Coxes, and it's fine.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: I know that I know that there's there's certainly people
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: that would be offended by it, and I understand that.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: But to me, as long as it fits with the
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: nature of the character, you think it's okay. All right,
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: all right?
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Do you have another question for the legendary Donald Faison
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: or Zach braf sassy bougie Ratchet. What's happening Mahdi?
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: You sound like you sound like Rocco. So Rocco doesn't
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: like the song at all because he doesn't like to
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: dance or anything like that. Right, so he'll be like,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'm a savage ratchet acid dookie.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Rockets at a stage where if you just want to
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: savage to something, say poopy or coca.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Right cock anything. Any He sometimes, look, man, you've you've
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: heard my son. I've taught him some words that I'm
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I should never have taught him.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Man, it's like a parrot. You never want to teach
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: a parrot curse.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: I taught him some words, and now I'm like, I
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: should have never done it, And when he goes back
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: to school, I'm so worried.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, for now it's your problem. Yes, go ahead.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: Yeah. So you mentioned in the Doors that did they
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: get season nine? I was actually gonna give them season
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: seven for the writer's strike, And I was just always
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: fascinated by the whole thing with you guys having to
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: stop mid season and just trying to adjust that. I
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: don't remember. Maybe you guys can provide the context of that.
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: So the season shut down and then you had to
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: go back and finish the episodes. Was that sort of
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: the deal on that.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: I don't really remember. I know that I know that
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Hollywood was shut down for the writer's strike and we
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: didn't work. Then we went back. Why are you saying
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: that you can notice a difference in the in the
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: quality because of that crazy time.
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that if those episodes were done in
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: any other context, they would have been great. But there's
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: something that feels off to them as you're watching them
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: that could just be going in with the context of oh,
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: this was done when the writers weren't there, or this
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: was sort of just done under.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Well, nothing would be done without the writers being there.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: You know, this is a this is a really good bill.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Oh great, we can do our ask Bill.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: This is a really good bill. Question.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: So, BJ why don't you direct it directly to Bill Lawrence,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: the show's creator. You asked him. It's a good question.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: Yeah, So Bill, a season seven, if you had to
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: do over, would you feel that it would come out differently?
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: And then the way it did being produceduring the writer strike.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: I think that's a good way.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: That that is good and then Bill will will Bill
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: answer it?
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Now?
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Knowing Bill, knowing Bill, he'll answer the He'll start with
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: a joke, that's all. It's all. See if he does this,
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: A'll open with a joke. Then he'll give a very heartfelt,
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: serious answer, and then he'll end by yelling five, six, seven, eight,
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: we'll see, we'll see. I hope I do.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: I think Season seven would have been different without the
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: right Yeah, because you got to remember, not only did
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: the strike muck everything up so much so NBC even
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: rejiggered the order of the episodes. I think they aired
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: that Princess Bride homage like it was this show's finale,
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: just in case it was the show's finale, when it
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: wasn't supposed to. I mean, we were heading the finale
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: was always going to be that end of season eight
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: episode that was already written in my head, and uh,
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: we just never got to do it that year. It
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: was such a drag. Also, you got to remember, man,
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: during that whole lead up to the strike, it was
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: such a weird writer's room because we were all hustling
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: and worried about losing our jobs and worried about not
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: working and all that stuff. So it was definitely screwed
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: up on one of them on record that I didn't
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: do the number Q for the song because it'll get
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: stale if I do it too often. But I'm coming
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: back with a vengeance.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: See.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember when the writer's strike happened, and I
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: remember the one thing that I remembered the most about
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: the writer's strike was thinking, holy cow, we're not going
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: to work for a while, and does this mean this
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: is the end of the show, because you know, at
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: this point, you know, studios were studios weren't necessarily behind
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: writers striking and everything like that, and I worried at
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: that point, does this mean that Scrubs isn't coming back?
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Are you know? And I remember I remember marching with
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Bill all the way to Universal Studios.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Now we all went and marched on the line with everybody.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: And thinking, is this something that the studio is going
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: to look back at and be like, well, We're not
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: going to bring back Scrubs because they were a part
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: of the writer's strike. We're not going to bring back
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Brooklyn nine to nine because they were a part of
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: the you know what I mean.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Like now, by the way, you know, shows are dropping
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: because of this because of COVID, and and Broadway shows
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: are closed because of COVID because they because they know
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: they can't.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Right, Frozen is done because of COVID.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and others and shows are getting canceled. Emergence a
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: amazing show, Emergence starting.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if Emergents got canceled because of
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: COVID or if Emergents got you know, ABC doesn't have
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: to give a reason for why they canceled the show.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Have you watched Emergence?
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: I have, I didn't.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: It didn't take for me a BJ You're done, No,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I'm just joking, I'm just doing.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: It didn't take for me. I love the cast, great actors,
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: great actors. Yeah, I find a lot of TV shows
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: that come out of the broadcast that works that usually
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: the cast is great, but for whatever reason, there's just
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: something that doesn't click for.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Me the way that well, I think what happens is
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: that just sort of stereotypically there there's a lot of
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: chefs in the kitchen on broadcast, and now more and
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: more the showrunner and directors are given long leashes on
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: streaming platforms and there's a voice to be had. They
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: want a voice, was the voice behind the show. That's
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: what they're interested in, especially all these sort of comedies
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: we all love on on on things like you know,
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: the perfect example is is Atlanta. For me, it's like
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: so clearly someone's taste and voice.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: And that's hard to find on broadcast television, of.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Course, because there's nine thousand people weighing in and it
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: just becomes a fucking muddy stew Oh.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: I feel that way about Dave on fx X.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: You like it or you don't like it.
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: Oh good good, I get a whole ad for Dave
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: on here it's so good, Davids. I can't get Donald,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: who would love it more than any of us, to
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: watch it, because he's too busy fucking doing whatever he's doing.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: I'm raising kids, yo, No, I'm raising kids.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Go to sleep? And what time seven thirty?
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: And then I want to go to bed, buddy, seven early?
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: What time you get to bed? What time is lights out?
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Thirty?
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: No?
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you turn out your lights at eight thirty, eight.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Thirty nine o'clock. I'm most likely on my way upstairs
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: to go to sleep. Wow, it's crazy, dude. Listen man.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: As much as as much as I'm as, I'll tell
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: you right now. I love my children. I love everything
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: about being a dad and and all of that stuff.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: But I said it before. I miss waking up at
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: noon and not having anything to do other than hang
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: out with my wife. You know what I mean. I
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: miss that shit.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Every every week. Donald makes having children seem less and
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: less appealing.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Now now I don't want to go back to that.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I don't want I don't want to. You know, the
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: grass is always greener. I would prefer to wake my
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: my son walking in my room at five thirty in
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: the morning every day, saying can I have cinnamon toast crunch.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I prefer that over.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: Freak being at Orlando Jones's pool till four.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Morning, right exactly till four o'clock in the morning. But
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: you know it's it's I do miss that moment in
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: time where it was just I didn't have to worry
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: about a lot of things, you know what I mean,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: And I worry about everything.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: Well, you're in a new chapter of your lifetime. This
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: is this is forty six.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and when I was a young dad,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: it seemed a lot easier. It seems way more difficult now. Man,
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I don't know bj you have kids.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: Right, No, I'm child free.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: He was talking about it.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I love kids. I love that is more than
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: anything in the world. I think kids are just the best.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: But for me, I decided, you know, I want to
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: be inviting friendly and I know it's cookies, it sounds.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: So I took that, took that like produce your carbon
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: footprint thing really seriously and just decided you had kids.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: I don't know what kind of world did would get into,
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: so I signed out to do it. It's a little
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: too deep.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: As you like fun, go out with one a happy question.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Because we're going along, we wrap it up. Yes, you've
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: been a great guest. I gotta say Donald hasn't been
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: a great guest.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: BJ. I'm gonna be honest with you so far, favorite
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: call in ever.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I'm gonna I'm gonna think for a second. Yeah,
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: I think BJ is definitely top two or three.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Two.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the number one.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: You know what, No, before you give it to him,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Before you give it to him, Let's see what the
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: final question is.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, no, I thank you guys, because I, like
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: I said, I spent uh craps on the time with
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: the X watching you. So it was cool just being
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: able to experience a few minutes hanging out. Uh So,
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: my last question for you is the world where even
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: like the most chriscopic shown, remember Get the movie. You've
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: probably gotten this a lot, but do you envision a
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: scenario where there might be more scrubs? And I know
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: that it's such a fam boy question I asked, but
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: I had to ask it.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: No, it's a great question.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: I think there's a world.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: It was we did the view today and Whoopy Goldberg said.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: You know Oscar nominee. Woopy Goldberg got Oh, he got winner.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: He got winner. Whoopy gold Sorry, she has the four
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: of them together.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I didn't know she was an e gun.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Yeah she she she That's the reason she's got the Tony,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: the Emmy, the Grammy and the Oscar.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: What does she have an oscar for?
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Ghost?
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: Color purple? Ghost ghosts?
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Wow, don't get us going on color purple.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: We did.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: We did a whole episode. Listen, we love us some
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: don't get don't, don't, don't, don't get good Donald doing
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Oprah's monologue again because she was Gideon for me.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Like I grew up with her on the Next Generation. Yes,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: she was great on that too.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Did you ever see her one woman Broadway show that
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: you can know?
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: That's what she won the Tony four?
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: I think it was nineteen eighty five. It was Whoopy
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Goldberg's one woman Broadway show and she does all these characters,
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: and I'm telling you find it. It is a fucking masterpiece.
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: It's one of the she she is.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: She is by far like she is, she's better.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: I don't mean to diss the view, because the view
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: is the view, and it's like the most popular daytime show.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: But I wish that Whoopy was still acting because she's
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: so incredibly talented.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: She's one of the She's one in my opinion, she's
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: one of the best ever.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: Anyway, you made me want to go back and watch
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Star Trek the Next Generation now because I used to
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: watch that show.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Gat watching Donald, I did great.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Do you remember the episode where Picard is being tortured
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: and he's like there four lights?
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Yeah by the borg is he being to the boy again?
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Anyway, she was like Whoopee was like, look, I'm a
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: huge fan. I was a huge fan of the show.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: I think y'all should make a Scrubs movie.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Yeah, So we talk about that, you know, because I
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: point to psych who's now made two successful films, and
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: it would be fun. I think it would be fun
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: for us to all do something like that. We just
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: have to get Disney to be into it and Bill
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Laurence to be into it, and I think it'll happen.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: They're the fans. The fans seem to really want it
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: to happen.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: The fans wanted a rewatch show and they got that.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: So yes, we're getting the people what they want. DJ
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: You've been an outstanding guest. You're Donald's favorite guest of all.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Time favorite, calling Calling guests calling.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: Favorite Collin BJ. We had to qualify it and better.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: I have no doubt.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Uh No, I think you asked smart questions. You seem
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: like a very intelligent man. You gave a thoughtful discourse.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: What else Donald and he knew about Star Wars? Yeah,
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: you know about Star Wars. That's why Donald likes you.

- 1:19:37Speaker 2: thinking about nonsense in your life for an hour and
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: a half or so.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but just on a personal level today, I was very,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: very very you know, and I'm going to go back
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: into it after we after we wrapped the episode. But
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: I was very very I don't know, I wasn't having
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: a great day and melancholic. Yes, I was very melancholic.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: I the melancholy was if I could play a song,
