2:53
have him on as part of the show. Got to Andrea Garrett here who
2:58
is the state director for the West virgin New Faith and Freedom Coalition. Andrew,
3:00
good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, thank
3:02
you for having me. And I apologize in my preview I said that Curtis
3:06
Workman was coming. But Curtis is not here, but you are here,
3:10
and that was miscommunication on my part. That's quite right. He would have
3:14
done a better job. Oh no, you'll You'll be fine. You'll be
3:16
fine. Now explain to everyone what exactly is the West Virginia Faith and Freedom
3:21
Coalition. Sure, the West Virginia Faith and Freedom Coalition is about two years
3:24
old. It was started in two thousand and nine by Ralph Reid with the
3:28
purpose of connecting communities of faith to the political process. And so, like
3:34
I said, just two years ago, we started here in West Virginia.
3:38
It exists in many other states. West Virginia is one of the newer chapters.
3:42
But we're just a national grassroots movement made up of about three million members
3:47
nationwide to mobilize and train people of faith for effective civil action. So you
3:53
recently had a had a conference of the national conference talk about that. We
3:57
did, so that's the road to Madge Already conference and the Faith and Freedom
4:01
West Virginia Chapter. We brought about forty five West Virginians who came along with
4:05
us, and we enjoyed it was. It was a fantastic event. First
4:11
of all, a lot of folks of faith. Where was it? Where
4:13
was it held? It was at the Washington Hilton in DC, Okay,
4:15
Okay. We there are some great speakers there, including the former president.
4:19
We had several state governors and governor candidates. We have members of Congress,
4:25
senators, just just a great group of people that spoke to us. It
4:29
was, It was fantastic. Religion has been in the news a lot lately,
4:35
with the Governor of Louisiana proposing that the ten command must be posted in
4:40
every classroom and the governor of Oklahoma ordering the Bible to be taught in classrooms
4:45
of public school. Controversial to say the least. I think I already know
4:48
the answer to this area. But where's your group on these things? Yeah?
4:51
Of course, so we we certainly support Christian values. Those are those
4:56
are policies that we would that we would support. In fact, the Faith
5:00
and Freedom Coalition as a national group, awarded the Winston Churchill Lifetime Achievement Award
5:04
to Pastor John Hagey for his work with Troubled Youth, supporting Israel and other
5:12
nationwide ministries. But of course we would we support all the Biblical influences and
5:16
those values as often as we can. I noticed injury that to former President
5:23
Trump was one of the speakers that your conference. You just mentioned that,
5:25
and I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but i do need I feel
5:28
they need to ask the question, and so please hear me out on this.
5:32
Does the does the former presidents shall we say some of his ideals or
5:38
action? It's been said by a lot of people that maybe they fly directly
5:44
in opposition to what most most Christians believe or how they live their lives.
5:50
I mean, you know, you've and you're folks are obviously are not the
5:55
spokesperson for every Christian in America. I get that, but lots of people,
5:58
including myself, I guess, kind of have a little bit of an
6:00
issue with how with how Christians can can align with the former present. Again,
6:06
not trying to start an argument here, just for the sake of discussion,
6:10
how would you address that? It's a good question, Dave, and
6:13
certainly worth asking, especially within some of the recent things that have come to
6:17
light. I can see why a lot of Christians would would start to question
6:21
that. But for us, we're really focusing on policy, and this is
6:26
really a fight of good and evil. And so what we have seen and
6:29
continue to focus on is the fact that Trump has championed issues that are important
6:33
to faith and freedom. So for example, defending all of those traditional values
6:38
that fall under the examples would be Row versus Way defending Israel. We need
6:45
someone to to continue to protect those those values, and he has the proven
6:49
track record of doing it between the two candidates. And I've heard a lot
6:54
of people that have echoed that same sentiment that that you were saying that they
6:58
may not totally be in love with the guy. Uh but but but they
7:03
think it's policy. It's more policy than all about policy. It's and again
7:08
that's that's our focus. We're educating Christian voters and to us that that has
7:12
to be our focus. Talking to with Andrea Garrett again, who is the
7:15
state director for the West Virginia Faith and Freedom Coalition of Dave Island show in
7:17

7:45
Today, I want to talk about some of the some of the state
7:47
races and not looking for endorsements or anything like that. Some of the state
7:53
election races. A lot of people don't think that they'll be too competitive,
7:59
talking about the for governor between Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and Democrat nominee Steve Williams
8:03
of Huntington, in the battle for Senate between Governor Justice and Wheeling Mayre Glenn
8:07
Elliott, who is the Democratic nominee for that seat that's currently held by Joe
8:11
Manchin. Will you, folks, be involved in any of these races or
8:16
we do plan to be involved in the extent of providing a voter guide and
8:20
so these will showcase some of the different platforms that all these candidates are standing
8:26
on and some of the ones with a track, you know, any kind
8:28
of history. We will be showcasing some of the policies that they've been in
8:33
support of, any bills that they have sponsored, that kind of thing.
8:37
But I should say too that as a national organization, we have a budget
8:41
of around sixty million dollars that will be used to knock one hundred I'm sorry,
8:46
close to ten million doors of Christian Conservative voters. We have we're prepared
8:50
to make ten million phone calls, twenty five million text messages, and distribute
8:56
thirty million Faith and Freedom voter guides, and in West Virginia we planned to
9:00
do around two hundred thousand of those. That's a lot of door knocking and
9:01
a lot of texting and a lot of college. You don't have to do
9:03
all of it, do you not? Me? Personally? No, it's
9:07
uh. And these voter guides are there, I mean you're going to just
9:11
make them available online. It's an actual hard copy that you're going to take
9:15
to people's homes or both. Okay, yeah, yeah, both. And
9:18
in fact, we will be deliberating over some of the specifics of the voter
9:20
guide, and we have a board meeting later this month, so we'll discuss
9:24
how that's going to be dispersed across the state. But we're actually looking for
9:28
paid voter education reps to distribute these these voter guides if anybody's interested. So
9:31
you're hiring, is that what you're saying? And where can people learn more
9:37
about that? If they're interested and going to work for you? Thank you.
9:39
So we have a website which is w V Faith and Freedom dot com.
9:45
All right, I'm going to give you like the final like I do
9:46
with my political figures, Andrew, I'm going to give you like the final
9:48
thirty to just say anything that you'd like to about your organization. Yeah,
9:52
well, thank you. So the Faith and Freedom at Coalition's goal is to
9:56
protect time honored values, individual liberties, and stronger families. And so if
10:00
that's something that aligns with you and you'd like to help join the effort of
10:05
helping educate Christian Christian voters and help engage and mobilize these voters in our community,
10:11
please feel free to reach out and be part of our organization. We
10:13
are always looking for folks to help further omission, and you got a lot
10:16
of As I said, your organization's got a lot of doorknock duty between now
10:20
ye you ever worked it out for it. I've heard people say, and
10:24
maybe this is a little bit of hyperbole or whatever, but I have heard
10:28
people say that this and I'm fifty three years old, this may be the
10:31
most important election of their lifetime, no matter. You know, other people
10:37
said that. Do you feel that way too? I do feel that way.
10:39
I think it's far, but you're not fifty three. But I do
10:45
feel that as far as the trajectory of the United States is concerned, this
10:48
is a pivotal election. And in fact, it is the goal of the
10:52
West Virginia and the National Faith and Freedom Organization to help to help support the
10:58
largest turnout of Christian votes and history. And we're on track to do that.
11:01
All right, Andrew again, give us the website and the contact information,

14:18
let's get to some text this morning. Texas, your guest lost me when
14:22
you put Trump and Christian values in the same discussion. Christians believe in love
14:28
for all. Don't confuse true Christians with Christian nationalists, says a Texter.
14:35
Texter says, why do Christians have to force their religion on people via the
14:39
government? Why do Christians try to violate the Constitution? Text says The Faith
14:46
and Freedom Coalition is a good organization. I am happy to support them on
14:50
all the good work they have been doing, says a Texter. Uh,
14:56
Texas says, I'm all for Christians to promote their faith in the political realm.
15:00
Just start rendering into Caesar that which is Caesar's and pay taxes on your
15:05
income. Corporations are people, but churches are churches, says a Texter.
15:11
Texas says, how can Christians align themselves with Trump? Really? After crystal
15:15
clear evidence after the Holocaust on October eighth, thwarting students on college campus's chants
15:20
up from the River to the Sea, intimidations on New York trains, et
15:22
cetera, the question must be how can any Jewish person be aligned with the
15:26
Democrat Party today. Want to welcome onboard another new sponsor to the show.
15:33
All kinds of changes, new stuff coming on. Here are the folks at

16:17

16:21
continue talking more things with the regatta as we get closer and closer to the
16:26
regatta, which begins really run noon on Wednesday to get in. The mayor
16:30
is going to join us to talk about that a little bit later on,
16:33
and as always we talk about other things with the mayor too, So if
16:37
you got a question or comment, welcome to call us up when the Mayor's
16:40
on the show about ten to fifteen minutes or so from now. Bigley Pigley
16:42
Wiggly Hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight Tony the Taylor
16:47
text three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight text says Matthew seven
16:52
point fifteen. Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing,
16:56
but inwardly they are ravenas wolves, says a Texter. So I watched a
17:03
lot of the coverage on the Sunday morning shows yesterday about the debate Thursday night
17:08
between former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden. I also heard State
17:15
Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin comments on he was on Hoppy on Friday. I
17:22
will say this, at least at least most Democrats are admitting that Biden had
17:30
a horrible performance on Thursday night. I would like a little honesty from a
17:40
lot of them, though, maybe saying the president performed horribly without bringing up
17:47
Donald Trump. Now, did Trump lie about a lot? Yes he did,
17:53
But we all knew that going in. That's just Donald Trump. That's
18:00
that's who Donald Trump is, and and we all we all know. No
18:08
one asked me, but I think that before going after Trump. And again,
18:15
you're not speaking to a Donald Trump fan here, you know you know
18:18
that by now, I think maybe the Democrats need to clean up their own
18:22
collective backyards and figure out what they are going to do about President Joe Biden.
18:32
If Biden were your grandfather, you probably would not let him live alone
18:38
or drive a car. Period. It's it would be time to take the
18:41
keys. Now. I will say I did see some clips of him Friday
18:48
at a campaign event, and and he did look and sound better at that
18:55
particular event. But but for me, I think the damage is already done.
19:03
As they say, you cannot put the ketchup back in the bottle,
19:07
toothpaste into two, whatever analogy you want to use. It is one thing
19:14
to have a bad debate in the world of politics. It happens. It
19:18
happens all the time. Outside politics, it happens. You know, most
19:25
people would probably say that doctor Martin Luther King was one of the greatest speakers
19:29
in the history of America. Do you think he knocked it out of the
19:33
park every time? Of course not. I heard a comment from Raphael Warnock
19:37
out of Georgia on the news this morning when he was saying, look,
19:40
I'm a pastor, and all my sermons weren't exactly you know, an all
19:44
star. It happens, people have bad nights. But in my opinion,
19:49
this goes well well beyond that. And please don't give me this. He
19:56
had a cold thing and he suffered from speech impediments. I mean, he's
20:03
done that his entire life, had the speech impediment. I mean, this
20:07
performance on Thursday night, in my opinion, was beyond that of a cold
20:15
or a stutter or two. He was totally lost out there. And I
20:25
think at this point, I mean, let's face it, most folks,
20:30
I think have already decided who they're going to vote for. I mean,
20:34
if you are in the Trump camp, you are on the Trump camp.
20:38
And I don't think anything is going to change. I mean, the indictments,
20:42
all this other it's all that's done for Trump is makee his poll numbers
20:45
go up and his conviction in the case has made his fundraising go through the
20:51
roof. And so if you are, if you are somebody who is undecided,
20:56
and quite frankly, I don't think there is a lot of I don't
21:02
think there's a lot of people that are undecided at there to this point.
21:06
But for those who are undecided as to who they are going to vote for,
21:15
did anything that you saw on Thursday night from Joe Biden? Did you
21:23
get anything at all out there to give you the confidence to vote for him
21:30
in November? I mean, simply put my opinion here. Only if the
21:38
Democrats have any shot of winning in November, of remaining in the White House,
21:51
Joe Biden's got to step aside. Period. I mean, it's got
21:56
to happen. And again, and I'm not speaking, I'm not This is
22:02
not about Donald Trump. For me, this is about President Biden. He's
22:07
got to step aside. And there is you know, and again I've been
22:11
doing a little bit of reading on this. I'm certainly not the expert on
22:14
it, but there is a path that that could very well happen. All
22:17
he's got to do is basically just say I'm pulling out. I mean,
22:19
it's an open convention. You know, keep in mind, this was one
22:22
of the one of the if not the earliest presidential debate of all time,
22:27
so well before the convention, that's almost unheard of for the Republicans or the
22:33
Democrats. But he he could do that, and the family could do that.
22:40
And again I'm I'm not speaking and this is not partisan on my part
22:47
because you know my feelings. You've listened to the show. You know my
22:48
feelings on Donald Trump. It's he's got a step aside. In my opinion,
22:55
he has to to. I mean, well, well, that got
23:00
some text. Let me get to the text here, Texas. So many
23:07
people are calling for Biden to drop out. Why isn't anyone calling for Trump
23:11
to drop out? I am texture, I am, I was from day
23:15
one. He is less qualified and just as old. I agree. Well,
23:21
let me say about the age thing. We all know people in our
23:23
lives that are as spry as they can possibly be at ninety years old,
23:30
and we know people who are like me, old and decrepit when they're in
23:36
their thirties. So I don't know that you can compare the ages. There's
23:40
what a three to four year age difference I think between Biden. But I
23:42
mean based on just the performance the other night. Now again, but all
23:48
Trump's lies aside. Okay, I'm talking about just the strength of the performance
23:52
the other night, and the and the polls have showed this, no matter
23:56
what poll it was, that Donald Trump won that the other night. I
24:00
mean, hands down, based on not based on content necessarily, but based
24:07
just on performance. Texas. Speaking to Martin Luther King Junior, it is
24:14
well documented he was a womanizer and had multiple affairs. Just saying we need
24:18
to keep some perspective when we throw stones, let's throw them fairly. Those
24:23
rumors have been there, and you don't even want to talk about the morals
24:26
of John Kennedy, Okay, or FDR for that matter. So the only
24:30
difference is is now there's a whole lot more coverage of them, I think.
24:34
I mean, remember, if you follow this this story, you know,
24:38
if you've done any reading on this, the press corps would not show
24:44
for a long time FDR in a wheelchair because they didn't want to show weakness.
24:48
I don't think that would be the case now, Okay, that's a
24:53
question for the mayor. That's a question for the mayor, which I appreciate
25:00
we'll get to those later. Text. So before you go in your Biden
25:02
rant about people protecting him or deluding themselves to his abilities, Trump supporters have
25:07
been doing that for years. Biden supporters pretend he's not a doddering dummy.
25:11
Trump supporters pretend he is not an immoral black hole, beholden to those who
25:17
tribute and enrichment schemes best suit him, looking to remake America in his dog
25:22
humping leg image. Texas, for some reason, you seem to think Dems
25:30
pretending is worse than GP pretending. Defaulting to you excusing Trump a brain dead
25:34
Biden is not a threat to the free democracy. It's where we are.
25:40
And I will say this if we thought we were interested. And I haven't
25:45
seen any ratings on the debate Thursday night, but I'm sure they were through
25:48
the roof. Other countries were watching it too, Other countries were very,
25:56
very interesting in what was going on on Thursday night. Texans always one sided.
26:00
For Republicans, Democrats must be honest and tell the truth. Democrats have

28:45
half the audience of the twenty twenty first debate. All right, appreciate that
28:52
while the network's biggest TV audience of the year, the count of those who
28:56

29:02
when more than seventy three million people watched the first debate between Biden Trump across
29:06

29:11
the first debate between Hillary Clinton and Trump. And I appreciate the texture for

I see the Mayor. I got a couple calm down there, I I've
32:58
got to catch a breath. A couple of texts. I gotta get to
33:00
here. Text says after Biden's performance Thursday night is clear now. It's why
33:07
the Democrats are so determined to not release the audio of her interview so the
33:10
public can hear his voice, says a texture. I got a gift here,
33:16
a little housekeeping here. A big announcement came out Friday afternoon that we
33:21
hear at wv RC Media, Charleston. Pretty happy about two of our own,
33:24
Jeff Jenkins and Woody Woods are going into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of
33:30
Fame, honoring television and radio broadcasters. Are going to be inducted at the
33:32
ceremony in October and Huntington. They'll join a long, long list of broadcasters
33:37
from this building and the company as a whole. This is not the entire
33:40
list, by the but just from this company here. I mean, you
33:45
know, w RC Media, Charleston. Stephen Jenning from V one hundred,
33:50
Chris Lawrence, Fred Persinger, Joe Parsons, Hoppy kirchfill Tony CAREDI out of
33:53
Morgantown, of late Don Cook, the late Paul Howard, just to name
33:57
a few, and there are plenty, plenty more. What can you say
34:00
about Jeff Jenkins and Woody Woods. I mean, two of the best people,
34:04
forget on air staff, just two of the best people you will ever
34:07
ever know. And I will say, had I never darkened the doorways here
34:13
at eleven eleven, I would have ben honored just to know wood he was
34:15
and Jeff Jenkins, and which I've known both of them for a number of
34:19
years. Couldn't be more proud of my teammates. So congratulations Jeff Jenkins and
34:22
Woody Woods. They're going to the Hall of Fame, well deserved hall of
34:27
fame for mayors. Say sure, are a good one. You Sorry.
34:30
I was running, was running. Sorry We've got because you were Well,
34:35
here's the thing. And I looked out there and I saw you were with
34:37

34:38
It wasn't Actually I will I will confirm it was. I got a nice
34:44
little stern what for God of money. It's called a silly pint. A
34:49
silly pint, that's what it's called. It's a glass that doesn't sweat.
34:52
Don't ask me, okay, unlike me sweating. I got you, I
34:57
got you. Well, you can calm down a little bit now, busy
34:59
week. I got some things in the news and we'll talk to you about
35:01
and plus you got text waiting one. So we were, as I said,
35:06
we're just forty eight hours away from bringing a couple hundred thousand people into
35:08
Capital City. But I want to talk. Let's start on a positive Let's
35:12
talk about this Capital connector. Oh thanks, yeah, So many moons ago,
35:17
five and a half years ago when I got into office, you know,
35:22
I stood stacked on the floor, lots of plans, right, plans
35:25
to develop the riverfront, plans to do more bike lanes, walk lanes.
35:30
And we said, now, let's let's put it to put it into action.
35:34
And so we went after some federal funding. And because of simply because
35:38
of our relationship and the good work of Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Senator Joe
35:45
Manchin, both of them came to bat for us and said, yes,
35:49
we're going to give you a one point seventy five million dollar raise grant,
35:52
the only grant two years ago, well almost three years ago now in the
35:57
state of West Virginia. We received that. We've been planning, and last
36:00
week we announced we have now a twenty five million dollar construction grant, all
36:06
federal funds that are coming to the City of Charleston from Magic Island to the
36:09
thirty fifth Street Bridge to make the riverfront what it should be, a bikeable,
36:15
walkable playplace, lots of lights, and to use our riverfront as we
36:22
have needed to use it. We're a river city that doesn't use our riverfront.
36:27
Now we're going to and I think I heard this morning there's going to
36:30
be a public meeting in August. August. I think it's okay. We'll
36:35
publicize it a lot between now that they have the morning news this morning,
36:37
so so to get the public sandput because this is important as well. Yeah,
36:40
and the first public input session we had is monumental, by the way,
36:45
it's online as well. But our first meeting was in that huge,
36:49
big conference room. I know you've been over at the public library. That
36:51
big, beautiful public meeting room was packed with people. What do you want
36:55
to see. This isn't an Amy Goodwin project. This is the City of
36:59
Charleston product. I want what you want, and so the input has been
37:02
really really great. Tonight, Mayor, there is city council meeting tonight,
37:07
and it was reported over the weekend on our news and also in the gazette.
37:13
The city Councilman Joe Solomon's proposing some sort of a resolution as it pertains
37:17
to the police, I guess, not arresting as he calls them, the
37:22
un how's here in regatta? You want to want to address that. I
37:27
have not received any emails or phone calls from that council member, so I
37:31
really can't speak to it insomuch as just to say that I did read it,
37:36
and my only comment would be that our nine member care team, every
37:40
day, with the Charleston Police Department, with the Fire Department, all of
37:45
our city social service agencies kind of valley collective, united way, so many
37:50
are going to continue to work with those in our community who need assistance and
37:53
get them into services. By the way, we do that every single second
37:59
of every single day. We do that. But what I will not do
38:02
is tell the police, which, by the way, City Council can't tell
38:08
the police not to do their jobs. But you just can't do it,
38:12
Dave, And I'm not going to support that, not for one single second.
38:15
Most of the council members who have called me concerned or confused about it,
38:20
because there's been very little outreach on this, very little communication is I
38:24
don't get it. I don't understand it. It seems borderline on constitutional and
38:30
I'm not telling the police department or the municipal judge what to do. We
38:37
can't do that, by the way, And the majority of the comments that
38:42
I've heard back is our care team does an incredible job. They just simply
38:45
do. We are a very compassionate administration. We take care of folks who
38:52
need help. But if somebody has a warrant out for their arrest, you
38:55
will be arrested. That's what the police do. And oh, by the
39:00
way, you want me to do that, you want our police officers to
39:02
do their job. By the way, they're very compassionate. Our police work
39:07
so hard, Dave, day in and day out. I know you know
39:09
this. You support our police and they adore you, But don't tell them
39:15
not to do their job. You know. I listened to the story of
39:17
one of our members of our care team, our director tell me that a
39:22
couple of weeks ago, they were working with this guy who was having a
39:25
super bad day, and one of our police officers spent an hour and a
39:30
half two hours looking for a size twelve shoe for this guy. So don't
39:34
tell me that our police are not compassionate people. They are, but they're
39:37
going to do their job. But they also have compassion. And that's what
39:40
I think people need to know about our police department. Mayor, is there
39:45
any any truth to what was alleged that when the regatta got back that there
39:50
was an extra effort to keep the unhoused, the homeless, whatever you want
39:52
to call them, away from the regatta. Five and a half years ago,
39:55
when I got here into office, we put in a plan, you
40:00
know, and I'm sorry to say, ripping up benches and ignoring the project
40:04
and vilifying people on Facebook does about a big goose. It does this much
40:07
to help people. We need to take care of people. And oh,
40:12
by the way, there are consequences when you break the law, and so
40:17
do you want me to only enforce the law during certain times? And you're
40:21
going to ask me not to enforce the law during REGD. We we can't
40:24
do that. That's not what the people have elected us to do. We're
40:30
going to be compassionate, we're going to help people, but we're also going
40:32
to hold people accountable. Our citizens require us to do that, and we're
40:37
going to continue to do it. So no, I think it was just
40:39
a moment for maybe somebody to get into the newspaper. To be quite honest
40:45
with you, Tex says, what does a refuse schedule for the rest of
40:46
the week? In turns time, I asked that last night of Tina.
40:52
It remains the same. It remains Yeah, it remains okay. Tex says.
40:57
This is for the mayor. A drug house at fifty seventh and Virginia
41:00
in Kanas City shooting. There are three weeks ago, dozens of different drug
41:06
users in and out of the house, out of state cars parked along.
41:07
The residents submit videos of people stumbling around out of the house and onto surrounding
41:12
properties, passing out. Why is this place not busted, patrolled, harassed
41:16
or to make it not worth ruining the private lives of residents in that area?
41:21
And again, Mayor, they're talking about fifty seventh and Virginia in Kanas
41:24
City. So I promise you that Andrew in my office is listening to this
41:29
radio show. He's going to write it down. If you'd like to call
41:31
me three four eight eight one seven four three four eight eight one seven four.
41:37
We're happy to follow up with you directly, and I will follow up
41:40
with Andrew when I get back to my office. Texas, please ask the
41:44
mayor about the mccorkyl side of the river so that the city can be seen
41:47
when driving on mccorkyl Avenue. Oh, yes, I bet you. I
41:51
know who that text is from. Yes, working with the Army Corps of
41:55
Engineers in the state of West Virginia. No, mccorkyl is not ours.
42:00
Okay, one other thing and we'll go talk. We gotta, yeah,
42:02
I promise me. That's okay. Hold on, I don't know how much
42:06
you can say about this, but in the time that you have been on,
42:08
former police chief Tie cunts it the last time you're on has been granted
42:10
to his disability. I know you're very limited in what you can say,
42:14
but I will give you the opportunity to comment if you can. Yeah,
42:16
absolutely, this is what I will say. Boy, it's been a really
42:21
long year. It's been a troubling year, but I will say this with
42:24
confidence. I have the utmost confidence in our Chief of Police, Scott Dempsey,
42:31
and our Deputy Chief of Police Jason Webb. The Pension Board, as
42:37
I always know that they do. They take all of the information in front
42:43
of them and make the best decision with the information that they have. And
42:49
so from investigation to the pension board meeting, I feel very confident with the
42:53
actions of our chief of Police and our Deputy Chief of Police and members of
42:59
the pension Dave jay Met. It's away from Tantex, says Mayor Saturday,

43:07
the canall rifle and plaque off the monument. When will it be restored so
43:10
we can show inclusiveness to all of us. Where can we view it in

43:16

in Long Island. They'll be back at Gomart Ballpark for a weekend series against
46:15
Southern Maryland. For tickets, schedules, promotions, merchandise and more of it's
46:19
a Dirty Birds Baseball dot Com. Dave Wilson in a big chair for Hoppy
46:22
this week. Campus carry is now a thing. Dave will talk to WVU
46:28
Dean of Students, Corey Ferris about that. More talk Line with Dave Wilson
46:30
in for hobby this week coming up at ten oh six. The Mayor's here.
46:34
Let's talk regatta. We finally got to it. Let's talk regatta.
46:37
Let's talk regatta. So everything, I've got my nice little schedule over here.
46:42
So everything kicks off with the vendors Wednesday at noon. But you've also
46:46
got activities going on not only overall, but also City Center at Slack Plaza
46:52
with a lot of things going on there. I'll just let you take it
46:53
from here, go ahead, Yeah, sure, So we start on Wednesday.
46:57
We've got the wheelwa wash that's going to be at City Center at Slacked
47:00
a couple of things that you're going to see, uh, that are going
47:01
to be a little bit more convenient. Not only is the wheelwash going to
47:05
be in city Center at Slack Plaza, we're also going to have the Kids
47:07
Fund Zone there as well. And you know the Kids Fund Zone it used
47:12
to be at Magic Island. And you know the feedback which is by the
47:15
way, big into feedback. Tell me what you want. A lot of
47:17
parents saying, I mean, do you know how you know your boys are
47:21
older, but you know how hard it is to have a double jog stroller.
47:22
Somebody on this hip to go for Magic Island all the way down the
47:25
boulevard. We hear you, we got you. Everything's gonna be for the
47:30
kids at City Center at Slack Plaza on Wednesday, we've got Shaggy, which
47:36
everybody is just talking about this ad nauseum. So I really feel like Shaggy
47:39
is going to be a big night. That's right after the wheelwash. On
47:44
Thursday, we've got not only fireworks, but we've got the premier Beetle Band,
47:49
three costume changes. These guys are there, the career Sergeant Pepper,
47:55
these guys are it. On Friday, it's going to be an awesome cun
48:00
night Montgomery Gentry. And then Saturday, I have already started on the Alexa
48:06
at home Apple Music. My boys are from school, Like Mom, you're
48:09
such a geek. I love the nineties tone, Loag, Vanilla Ice,
48:14
all of the young young MC not about nature. So it's going to be
48:17
super fun on Saturday. Keeping in mind we've got the carnival going on.
48:22
Keep in mind we've got all of the amazing vendors on Saturday. Gosh,
48:27
what a big fire parade five o'clock on Friday. Everybody loves the fire parade
48:34
For the past two years, Dave, there have been these two little boys
48:37
who sit there on the west side the beginning of the fire paray, and
48:38
they're going crazy when it starts. And so after last year I went to
48:43
their mom and said, would they like to start the fire parade with me
48:45
and be in the parade? She said, And they're about this all she
48:49
said, Oh my god, Please don't mention it to them publicly until we
48:52
get closer to the regatta, or I will never hear the end of it.
48:55
So they're going to join me in the bucket truck on Friday at five.
48:59
I hope they're not listening this morning. No, my gosh, Oh
49:01
yeah, I didn't think anyway. And then I'm not big among you know,
49:06
the small people, the children's the children's so. And then on Saturday,
49:10
another fun thing. This is all for the all for the kids.
49:14
Yes, we have the wien or dog races. That's so fun. At
49:15
Magic Island the funeral parade. A physician in town said to me, Amy,
49:20
I'm so angry with you. The funeral parade last year made us late
49:23
for our beach vacation. I said, Oh my gosh, was at the
49:27
traffic he said no, it was my daughter who said I want to be
49:30
in the parade. We said, no, we're leaving for vacation. Then
49:34
we're not. So he said, we compromised with her. She's going to
49:37
be able to be in the parade this year, and I said, well,
49:42
she'll lead it with me. And so we have our costumes already organized
49:45
ready to lead the funeral parade, and right after the funeral parade we go
49:49
right into Slamberree, which the wrestling thing last year was just a moans packed
49:57
I didn't realize and this is a new thing that we started to last year
50:00
with Adam Harris and Matthew Sutton and Tim Brady and so many other wonderful folks.
50:06
It's it's such a neat addition to what we've done with Regatta, so
50:09
super fun, A crazy, crazy four days, crazy four days, which
50:15
is the reason why I don't have my hair dried this morning. Day.
50:16
A couple of quick texts here not related to Regatta, Texas with the worst
50:21
time, with the worst time of stray cats and dogs we've ever seen.
50:24
Would it be possible for the city to speak with veteran areas and ask them
50:28
if they'd be willing to volunteer their time rescue groups to trap strays and use
50:32
the Civic Center to do a large scale, span newter operation that would make
50:37
a huge depth of the problem. Sure, I can always ask, no
50:38
doubt. Tex says, why aren't all day passes available for the carnival rides
50:43
after five? This seems to be a time that all day passes would be
50:46
most appropriate. I don't know, I'll ask. I actually don't know.
50:51
There, I don't know. There you go, so you campaign on bringing
50:54
Regatta back. I did one one of the that was one of the things.
50:59
And because I walked to Eve two and nineteen doors, No, I
51:02
did not first hundred and nineteen doors all by myself. And I will say
51:07
this, that was it was a consistent theme. But we didn't just bring
51:12
it back because Amy thought it was a great idea. Yes, I missed
51:15
it and I thought it was a great idea, but everybody else wanted me
51:16
to. And so what we said was and I said year one, and
51:21
I know I said it on this show, We'll bring it back and we're
51:22
going to see We're going to see how it goes. I'm a big believer
51:25
in the Year of three. This is year three. This is three.
51:28
That's the most important. It was at the right time. Is it the
51:30
right location or the right ax? What's the mixture look like? Because we
51:35
throw a lot of things at the wall, some sticks, some don't.
51:38
This is sticking. I mean, this is really sticking. We've made adjustments
51:42
that nobody else would see because it's mainly operations. When you host a party
51:45
for a quarter of a million people, there's an ebb and flow to how
51:50
you run things, where you park things, how you set up things,
51:52
and so nobody would notice the changes that we've made. But we're getting better
51:55
at it. We can't do the Charlestons and Will Regatta without our sponsors,
52:01
especially in COVID, God blessing COVID. They're just amazing Moses, our hospitals,
52:09
great great folks, and our Charleston stern Will got a board of directors.
52:14
They it's a full time job and the regatta wouldn't happen without one person.
52:21
And her name is Jane, Jane Bostona. It's just that simple.
52:24
It doesn't happen without Jane. She's the heart of the regatta. All right,
52:28
Mayor, we gotta go. I appreciate you being here on the show
52:31
Enjoy Regatta. This is probably the only time for the next couple days you're
52:35
going to be sitting down, so I'm going to get my steps in man,
52:37
so Enjoy. We've had you all over the ability today. I love
52:39
it. Thanks a lot, may Or a good one. We'll be talking
52:43
Regatto the next couple days. Of course, as it kicks off on Wednesday
52:45
tomorrow on the show, Jared Page from the City of Saint Albus. Brad
52:47
mclhenny will be on the show too. Hoppy Covin are actually Dave Wilson in
52:51
for Hoppy with talk line see tomorrow. So then have fun and love somebody
53:04
c nhs A ninety six point five at then Charleston one oh four point five
53:07
Cross Lanes, l u v r C Media Station. We're trying
